Then, a debate breaks out over the NBA Finals and specifically Luka Doncic as Mike and Tony question how his conditioning has played a factor in Dallas' 0-3 deficit. Plus, LPGA star, Charley Hull, joins the show to discuss going viral for smoking cigarettes on the golf course, how she handles the anxiety and loneliness of golf and a lot more, all while Stugotz pretends like he would actually quit cigarettes and be able to get her to Augusta. Why are you listening to this show?
The podcast that seems very similar to the other Dan LeBattard podcast.
I'm sorry, I'm not going to apologize for that.
In fact, the only difference seems to be this imaging.
I have been tempted in restaurants just walking past tables to grab somebody's fries.
That if they're just there, That hasn't happened to you guys?
I've done it. And now here's the marching man to nowhere, fat face and the habitual liar.
Sarah Sivian of the Too Many Men podcast, our friend also with Bleacher Report, really up in
the ante here at the gates with a very forced Boston Celtics track jacket is kind of bothering
me. I didn't think that anybody could bring me down,
but the reminder that I also have to share this moment
in sports with Boston also being up three zero
does dilute it somewhat.
Sarah, thank you so much for joining our show.
I'm sure you're thrilled about your seas.
Listen, you can't have it all.
And last season with the heat
and the Celtics going back and forth, I had to do a little homage to my boys in Boston.
All right. So what stage of the Florida Panthers grief process are you in? Because I've listened
to the Too Many Men podcast and you guys have actually perfected the Florida Panthers grieving
process. Thankfully, we've omitted stripes from this conversation, though Dry Seidel appears to have suspended himself
with his performance last night.
The Florida Panthers tend to do this to teams.
Everyone's wondering, we could have done better
if we only get the power play going.
If this call goes the other way,
if this 50-50 puck bounces another way,
if we had a little puck luck,
and it's the same kind of coping mechanisms every round and it looks like what we're headed to
is just the crashing realization for many is the Florida Panthers might
actually just be that damn good. It's a game of containment lately and they are
able to contain the Euler Stars like no other team, period. It's all about special
teams as well. They're containing them on the power play.
They're scoring on their own power play.
It's like everything.
This has been one of the closest post seasons in NHL history
with one goal games happened again last night.
Just score one more goal.
Sorry that you can.
In terms of the penalty kill,
obviously the Panthers have been great against Edmonton.
They've stopped them on all 10 chances.
But the crazy thing with Edmonton is I think they were 14 for their first 30 in
terms of scoring on the penalty kill five for their next 31. So to you, Sarah,
how much of this has to do with the Panthers and their penalty kill versus the
Oilers lack of execution?
Oh, it's really what a question, right?
Because if you ask somebody on one side,
they're saying one thing,
someone else they're saying one thing.
I think Sergei Bobrovsky is the equation here for me.
Like just the way that he is able to,
your best penalty killer,
as you hear the cliche has to be your goaltender.
So it's a matter of that versus Stuart Skinner
on the other side to me.
But I think you also have the hindsight of being able to look at the
film from their power play like in other rounds and you're able to see what you
can do to contain the McDavids the Dry Cytles the Hymans. Hyman's the most
important containment in my opinion. How is Hyman not able to do the Hyman things
that we saw him do all season long?
It's how he became a 50 goal scorer,
which is he gets in front of the crease,
he puts his frame in front of the goalie,
and he provides the traffic necessary
for either Bouchard to slap one in from the blue line,
or to clean up the mess.
We haven't really seen outside of maybe Boston
in game one of their series with Florida, we haven't seen anybody really get in that crease and make Bobrowski's
life more difficult. To me that would be the code, that's how you get the greasy
one right? And yet what the Florida Panthers do that is not super sexy is
they limit teams chances and you don't necessarily notice how or why someone
has been erased from the crease.
Are the Panthers achieving this? Absolutely and it becomes sexy because the way they translate
their defense to their offense it's like the Forslings, it's like the Barkovs and you talk
about one of the most important people in this series it's Barkov and him having his moment
doing it his way is so great and And it's part of that defensive unit
that translates so seamlessly to offense.
How can I get you to convince establishment media
that Gustav Forsling is actually the Con Smythe winner
so I can just cash that plus 5,000 ticket?
Because I think last night was another great example
of things that he does, closes off angles. The best saves that Bobrovsky has made has been the shots that the Oilers
aren't taking. It's not sexy to say, it's hard to get around Kevin Stenlund and you're
not getting a high quality chance because why talk about Kevin Stenlund? No one wants
to talk about how Gustav Forslund will force a wraparound attempt because he totally cuts
off an angle. Can you please convince your legacy media folks over there to please, maybe, consider the
analytics favorite in Gustav Oresling for Kansmaït?
Excuse me, over there in Boston, we're kind of on a different planet, but I would
say you have to go back to when their parents met and make sure it's not in
Canada. Like, they do not want to talk about him up in Canada.
But I love what Paul Maurice always says about him,
that in his fashion, he's the best defenseman of the day.
Like whatever he said, the way his phrasing is
when he says it.
Yeah, I completely agree with that
because of the transitional game.
And he is like a more defensively sound,
don't get mad at me, Quinn Hughes.
Like I just think the way that he plays,
it's more defensively attuned, but it's still offense.
And defensemen have to be so mobile and do it all these days.
And I feel like the way he does it,
I agree with Maurice, it's the best in his game.
What do hockey fans in this market have to do
to get some damn respect? Come on!
Oh here's where you lose me. I think walking around with a chip in the shoulder it is valid but
the way they're it's very unpleasant to have an interaction with a Florida Panthers.
Yeah. I think it's a combination of the disrespect but also I don't think
I think it's a combination of the disrespect, but also I don't think...
A lot of it is fabricated, if you ask me. I mean, the way I see it, though, they aren't overcompensating for anything.
Like, I think the way I can explain it, they feel like Leafs fans, but in Florida.
Well, there's a lot of Leafs fans in Florida.
And I've listened to too many men and I've heard you make me some sort of Pied Piper of this this brand of Panthers fandom I think I've been very
classy and Chris to answer your question is you just take the respect because
that's what Florida is doing right now they're taking the respect you have
every single coping mechanism pulled right now for the Edmonton Oilers and at
the end of the day they're gonna have to face the fact that their group of guys aren't good enough to get around the
group of guys that Florida has, primarily Barkov, Forsling, and Bobrowski right now. These are not
names that were on the marquee headed into the playoffs. These are not guys that do super sexy
things. You'd much rather talk about Kale McCarr than talk about Gustav Orsling. But when they're in that handshake line and when they're lifting
Lord Stanley over their head, you have no choice but to acknowledge it. Sarah, your
thoughts? Yes, I love the forcing of it and you see that emblematically in
Palmer's, in Matthew Kichuck. I've loved Kichuck's statements from last year or
two and just how openly hungry he is for it.
He's not kind of downplaying it.
He's in the public saying,
it sucked so bad to lose last year,
I need to win this year.
And the way they're making it happen
and the way Maurice stands by all,
like he stood by Echblad and says,
he'll be back next game.
He's not making any frills about it.
He stood by Kichuck and says,
you're gonna say Kichuck came back after he starts scoring,
but he's always been there. And I've talked to Kachuk a few times,
just the way Maurice allows him to like shoot as many pucks as he wants,
even when it's not going in, makes it go in in these timely times.
And you see that with a Tarasenko too, just like they don't need the world from him,
but they need that clinching goal.
They need the goal last night.
They get what they need from every single player
at any given moment.
Fladdy Tarasenko is exactly what you would hope
that acquisition would be.
This guy has not played defense in two years.
He has won a Stanley Cup before.
He's buying in.
And from the start of the Eastern Conference Finals to now,
dude is all of a sudden eating
every puck available and he's getting the timely goals that you would hope you would
get from him when you acquired him.
He is doing all the right things right now, like all the Panthers are.
I do want to talk to you briefly here before we wrap up about Matthew Kachuk because his
reputation does precede him.
But I think it was pretty obvious if you've been following him all year long that he did alter his gameplay. Now he's got a
nice little shiner from last night because he was doing some Matthew
Kachuck things, but he is not going overboard. He realized after he broke his
sternum in the Stanley Cup Finals, like I gotta rein it in somewhat, and I
thought that all the antics that have been associated with him is just
carryover from last year because he has not been that player.
And it seems as though, look, the Florida Panthers last year, they would have left Edmonton
with a pound of flesh, preferably Leon Dreisaitls.
There was no question as to whether or not they would mix it up and try to get revenge
on him because they don't want to let Edmonton get on the power play.
They're not going to start acting out and lashing out and putting their team in a difficult
position. We saw that with the Boston series as they tried to goad them. The Boston series is exactly what I was going to start acting out and lashing out and putting their team in a difficult position. We saw that with the Boston series as they tried to go them.
The Boston series is exactly what I was going to bring up. I mean, I was there for that
and I really felt like the series was over when they, the Bruins started talking in the
media kind of about those situations and the Panthers just ignored it. It's like the team
that is going to come out on top generally ignores it. And Matthew Kachuck has not had to do any of his antics.
They're up 3-0 in the freaking Stanley Cup final.
Hey, they haven't had to do like if it's game seven elimination,
you might see him do something, but he hasn't had to.
He's matured as a player where he knows that.
And then you've also got Sam Bennett, who is kind of like Matthew Kachuck
and can do that if necessary.
I think they've got a lot of rat hybrid players
that actually have a little more discernment
than someone like Brad Marchand.
Yeah, yeah, Sam Bennett's a very curious case study
in that if we're taking best players on the ice,
he might crack a lot of people's top six,
but he doesn't necessarily have the counting stats
to attribute that, but I think he's been,
once his hand healed, he's been absolutely dynamite.
Sarah, thank you so much for stopping by.
Please do what I do, I subscribe to the Too Many Men podcast.
I follow that, it's a great podcast.

Please give a shout out to the rest of the crew.

Sarah, thank you so much, go Mavs.
Of course, now go Celtics.
Backstreet's back, all right.
Since the dawn of mankind,
we've cooked our food over an open flame
and debated the best way to grill.
One thing not up for debate,
grilling and beer always go together.
But not just any beer would do.
Whether you barbecue, Texas style,
or just celebrate Wednesday with burgers and dogs,
I love Miller Lite. Every single time my team plays on television
I am sitting behind that television screen with the Miller Lite
R3. Miller Lite keeps it simple, undebatable quality,
taste as great as your barbecue. It's the beer that strips away
everything you don't need and holds on to what matters the most.
With the Miller Lite in hand, grilling doesn't just taste great,
it tastes like Miller time.

Or you can find it pretty much anywhere that sells beer.

Don LeBbatard.
Yeah, enjoy a long and fruitful run, Dan.
What was that voice?
A Celtics fan.
That was a Celtics fan?
Well, it was me.
Stugats.
Oh, it's amazing.
It's amazing to see the mask pulled off and to see you so clearly.
You were in such good disguise and I didn't know it was you.
It's to me, a Celtics fan.
This is the Dan LeBattar Show with the Stugats.
I'm not rooting against Roy for several reasons.
Right? I want to celebrate a Stanley Cup win on a Saturday.
I know that it won't be in our own barn, but don't worry. It's not like Edmonton's got this crazy
nightlife scene. I'm pretty sure they'll be in a hurry to get back. It does mean probably a midweek
parade, which, you know, it's the summer. Kids are out of school. I'm not getting into parade
planning, but the number one reason I am not rooting against Roy.
Sounded like you almost did get into parade planning.
No, no, no, I'm not, I'm not.
No, no, Whack-A-Mor.
Real close.
Real close.
But here's the reason why I am not rooting against Roy.
Because I wanna save a lot of money.
Because those Game 5 tickets are going to be a pretty penny.
I've already been searching Game Time.
That's right, the Game Time app.
And if there isn't a Game Five, guess what?
My budget just turns its attention over
to the Red Hot Chili Peppers at Hard Rock Live in Hollywood.
That's what I'm gonna do with that.
Can you get those tickets on Game Time also?
Yes, you can do all sorts of concerts,
all sorts of events on Game Time.
It is summer concert season,
and there is no better place to get your sorts of events on Game Time. It is summer concert season and there is no better place
to get your secondary market tickets than Game Time.

Guys, in the interface, there is a tab
that says All In Pricing.
Don't get surprised by fees at all.
And what I love about it is my default setting.
So now every time I open up the app,
I don't get tricked or anything like that.
A lot of you don't like the tricks and games that

cycle. I did watch all of game three. The bar that I was at had the Kevin Hart cast
on. It was so... Please. It was weird. I didn't want to correct them because
whatever but it was odd and I'm going to attempt to do something that I
know some people did in the media. I never thought I would side more with the
hot take that Brian Windhorst had signed to him, which I actually didn't think it
was that hot, closer to that than what Nick Wright did, which was kind of defend
Luka. I understand watching the game, Luka is all that Dallas has. In addition to that concession, I thought Luca
Doncic embarrassed himself with his antics in game three. And it's not, yes, the easy thing there
is constantly complaining about calls. But I thought for a guy that is clearly being targeted
by the Boston Celtics defensively, it's not like he's working really hard over there.
All the questions and the knocks that you can have against Luka Doncic, the number one that we hear is defense and conditioning.
Those can go hand-in-hand and I thought
the issues with conditioning were really magnified in game three.
Particularly in that third quarter,
where he's drenched in sweat,
he's asked to do everything on offense, I get it.
He's just barreling his head into the guts of guys,
hoping that he can get a call on offense.
His conditioning was so poor in that third quarter,
that he was turning what should be 50-50 balls
into 70-30 balls.
And just, when you're tired,
you make mistakes, he was putting himself in worse situations defensively. I
thought he should use game three, and this is where I side with Brian
Windhorst a little bit, rather than continue to complain about the
officials and gesture at his own sideline to challenge a call. You need to
watch that Game 3 because there is something that you could very easily help your own case
with, and that is conditioning. Because I thought it was pretty embarrassing. And I'll
make every excuse in the book. I know I'm not, I don't have this chiseled physique
or anything like that, but I thought his conditioning issues really bubbled to the surface in an ugly way in game three.
I think it's a lot of things, right?
Like conditioning is definitely a part of it,
but you can't get conditioning from one game to another.
Right? Like he's kind of stuck.
No, it's a whole approach thing.
For sure.
But I'm saying from watching game three,
watching the tape.
Wendy took a shot at his professionalism, which I...
It's a little far.
It's how you approach like your preseason,
your training camp regimen,
and those dividends pay off in the finals.
And we're seeing like all those bad checks catch up with him.
Absolutely, and when Dorsberg says he's 6'7, 230, I'm like, who's 230? Not Luka. There's no way.
No freaking way.
I'm 230. You're gonna tell me Luka's 230? Absolutely not.
But part and parcel of it is, like you said, conditioning in the offseason didn't look like he did any of it, right?
But you can't catch up that seems reckless
Any of it I can get what you're saying reckless, but didn't do any of it. It's just what I'm
It's obvious this dude is bowled over he's
He's about that. No like they're they're they're exploiting his lack of conditioning. He's also hurt which I will say that
He's also hurt now. You guys are hurting his feelings
What the the the injury by the way, and I've seen this and it's super valid
You can also lump that into conditioning
Like I think the conditioning thing with Luca is fair and I hope because I think he's an absolutely
Brilliant player who's totally unguardable. He perimeter Jokic like he is cracked to
code he is fantastic and he really needs more I know the issues aren't Luca
Doncic on that team it's his third leading scorer not hitting a shot from
the field since May 18th it's Kyrie Irving forgetting how to dribble
through two games of that series and not being the guy that they needed him to
ascend to I we're nitpicking here, but there is a general approach
from Luka Doncic, and this is where you,
I know Jeremy, you're seizing on a lot of things here
that a first class organization would totally fix him in.
All these apartments.
He let himself down too.
He's not the only person letting Luka Doncic down,
but he let Luka down too. The thing I would say
to sort of counter on the conditioning side of things is
not only are the Celtics the first team to sort of be able in terms of their build to exploit Luka Doncic and
Attack him
consistently defensively where they can send Brown or Tatum
or a series of guys at him,
where some of the other teams haven't been able
to match up the same way his size
has been enough to slow guys down.
But we like, praise all of the goofiness before games,
and he's headbutting the ball,
and he doesn't take it all that seriously.
When they're winning, and when they're losing,
we're saying, oh, he's not conditioned,
and he's not ready. in the previous series who was the
guy who was bowled over in game seven was Anthony Edwards Anthony Edwards who
is chiseled who is the example of conditioned but when you're getting
attacked on the defensive end all game long and having to carry the offensive
load you're gonna be exhausted at the end of games.
Do I think Luka could be better, sure.
But I think attacking that specific spot of his game
is maybe a bit overblown because now they're down three
nothing.
He was flopping around in game three,
making an absolute scene of things.
And I was watching that, seeing him flop around,
beg for calls, and I was embarrassed. Yelling at flop around, beg for calls and I was embarrassed.
Yelling at his bench, that was the worst part.
The last one, you better, I think that-
I think that-
I think that-
I think that-
I think that-
I think that-
I think that-
I think that-
I think that-
I think that-
I think that-
I think that-
I think that-
I think that-
I think that-
I think that-
I think that-
I think that-
I think that-
I think that- I think that- I think that- I think that- I think that- I think that- The fifth foul where he got hooked by Jalen Brown would have been challenged by Jason Kidd He signaled toward him to get that to be a challenge and now was frustrated by his own stupid mistake of trying to draw a charge
In that moment with five fouls with four minutes left like insane when you're that tired you also make really bad decision
You're right. I think also too with the calls, right?
If I find it comical that he's calling for these calls when he himself on the offensive end is the benefactor of?
People who don't give him the calls that they should be calling on him
He threw Peyton Pritchard with a weight with a chicken wing 17 feet down the court that never gets called
He gets elbows shoulders necks heads ball everything into
The the offensive game when he's driving in that don't get called for fouls.
I think we all kind of understand what the issues are with Dallas and again admittedly
nitpicking and honing in on one bad look for Luka Doncic but it was so embarrassing and so cringy
that you open that avenue up for guys to issue a public challenge like Brian Windhorst is right. If you want to be in this class and everybody was giving you
your flowers and saying that in spite of your conditioning you have found
yourself here. That is how good you are. There's a certain, there are professional
aspects to the sport that I really sincerely hope Luca gets down pat
because I want to see him playing in these big time games in June every year.
If you look at that third game, right, and he's watching the film, I think it's more of an effort thing.
Because there's loose balls that he's not going after.
But he's always in the wrong defensive spot.
I always it's it.
He's always in the wrong defensive spot and you're saying everything and I think the baseline is a general professional
approach to your conditioning would make you unstoppable because you are pretty unstoppable
as it is and if you just had one of those heat offseason training super saiyan tanks
and got right you would be a champion.
You're trying to make me say that he should be here and I'm not going to do it.
I'm not going to be the one to do it.
You don't want him?
Agent Dragich.
Agent Dragich is not a game.
He's fat and lazy and lazy.
No, I would love to have him.
He's the best player I've ever seen offensively.
I'm kind of with Jeremy on this though.
Like where were these conditioning concerns
against Anthony?
Right, he was able to do that.
They're always there.
Right, that's my point.
But they were winning.
We'd latch onto them when they lose a couple in a row.
But when you look at what he's looked like
the last three games and you're like,
oh, wait a second, he's not doing the things
that he should be doing.
But maybe they're going up against a beast of a team
that's finally getting their moment.
Look, we all have our frustrations with the Boston Celtics
and I do as much as anyone.
I have frustrations with the way that they're
perceived in the media and covered.
I have frustrations with the way that Jason Tatum
will likely be anointed despite not carrying this team
All that said they are an amazing basketball team. That's build is
perfect to slow and bother Luca on the offensive end and
Bother him defensively and be able to target him Jeremy
I am proud of you because I could see like a true effort in not taking the heat culture bait
And I've been
the one doing it. I know I'm trying to get you but here's one thing that I want to say sincerely
and I think the Boston media can absolutely take a victory lap on this one because I do think in part
due to their concerted efforts in the offseason to try to will Portland to not make that trade.
Thus inserting themselves in the Drew Holiday stuff.
I actually think the Boston media does have a hand in this title because of how
messy they in particular helped make that Damian Lillard thing.
So the Heat can take a little bit of extra credit.
Jimmy Butler doing that to the Celtics.
The Heat also getting like a half a ring for this one.
Pat Riley helped build the Celtics. Yeah, also getting like a half a ring for this one. Yes, no.
Maybe, yeah, it sure seems like it.
Enough of this.

Don Lebatard.
Earlier in the show the question was asked,
what would Stugatz do with one invisible day?
Stugatz.
One day where he could be invisible,
we decided that during banking hours
he would choose a weekday,
he would rob all the banks in the universe
from eight to five,
and then at night he would alter sporting event results
by being an invisible man in games he had bet on.
This is the Don LeBattar Show with the Stugats.
Frankie, the security guy just told me something
I did not know, which is Stugats is no longer allowed
to smoke heaters in the parking garage.
He's been banned from the parking garage.
They're making him go outdoors and into the sunshine
and toward the pool in order to get out of a smoky region
here that's been bothering the locals.
He was banned from the pool as well.
I was, yes.
It's a major inconvenience.
I have to go all the way downstairs.
I have to go outside.
And I got to tell you, smoking a dart in a garage,
one of my favorite places.
It is.
I mean, a dungy garage to smoke a heater
is a great place to have a heater.
I disagree, but Charlie Hull is with us.
She's one of the 10 best golfers in the world.
And also, she went viral recently because she's
a bit of a kindred spirit.
John Daly-esque in terms of just ripping a heater
right after the 18th hole.
We will not spend a lot of time here, Charlie,
I promise you, but I do just want to see
if you agree with Stugats on what he's saying
that a dungee parking garage is a good place
to smoke a cigarette.
But I can think of a lot of better places
to smoke a cigarette, the U.S.
open.
You did look cooler, though.
I don't know what it is about cigarettes that make people
look cooler.
It didn't seem to look right.
But then I'm like, she made it work.
She made the whole thing work.
I know.
I honestly I don't know how it lit.
Well, that's say lit up because
it actually generally did lit up like honestly I just can't I'm from England so everyone
smokes in England and probably on the golf course in casual games but not in the US Open
but it was pretty mad really how it all kind of took off I was just minding my own business
starting a few at a grass I was walking from the clubhouse to the range and I had my hands full and I thought I'd smoke
my last cigarette and smoking it and then someone asked me for an autograph and I'd
never turned down an autograph. So I was just literally doing that and then someone took
a picture of me. So there you go.
What's it like going viral for having a cigarette in your mouth instead of shooting say Six
Under at Pebble
Beach in the US Open?
I know, yeah, it was a bit different to last year.
It was actually got more publicity about it than shooting 67 in the US Open, 600 in the
US Open, 500 in the US Open last year.
Honestly, I just thought it was a madness.
I can't believe it.
It was quite funny in the end, but listen, like, uh, I still can't,
I'm speechless from it.
Listen, smoking is not good for you.
And I know that a hundred percent, like, and people say, no, it's so cool.
This and that, which I do want to stop one day, obviously.
And I'm, it's not good for your health, but it was pretty crazy.
And it was a good fun week.
Can you explain to us what your anxiety levels
are around golf?
Like, you're obviously exceptional at it.
You've been doing it for a long time,
but I don't know what kind of stress
you put on yourself while competing.
Is it enjoyment more than anxiety?
Well, I love playing golf.
I don't get anxious playing golf one bit at all.
It's more my life at home that I get anxious about.
I'm just like, I love being on the golf course.
Being on the golf course is my getaway place,
if you know what I mean, and it makes me feel good.
But yeah, I'd say there is a lot of pressure on you
to perform well and everything,
but I'm just out there being me. And even if I was lighting a cigarette, that's just me. And
it's a lot of traveling, you know, back and forth from England. That is pretty hard. And
literally, the week we came before the US Open, I split up with my boyfriend, I broke
it off of him. And then someone said to me, you're out there breaking darts and well no smoking darts and breaking hearts and I was like yeah
literally literally wow that's funny what is the expression I think
darts breaking hearts that part I heard I but I think she said she broke it off on him
yeah I guess I guess you just yeah you crushed him
yeah it was a lovely guy but it was never meant to be but uh, yeah, just someone said
that to me and I just started laughing in my head.
You've said, you mentioned your life at home and you have said you've got personality on
the course, but you've said that you could have a TV show about your life off the course.
What would that TV show look like?
Why do you think it would be interesting?
Honestly, if you used to meet me and my friends,
I think the golf would be canceled,
but there would be a lot of laughs on the TV.
We're just pretty crazy, like literally,
not a care in the world, just out there having fun.
We're all quite a bit of a, let's just say
we're quite a fun crowd to be around.
That is ambiguous.
I'm gonna need some help here
to sell this television show for you.
What does this mean?
You're just, it's a rollicking gaggle of insanity?
Honestly, I can't let too much off about my personal life.
But listen, we have a lot of fun.
And listen, I do not know what's going to come out my mouth next.
They don't know what's going to come out my mouth next.
We just sat there giggling all the time.
Like, honestly, it's a good old laugh at home.
Sometimes you're playing golf.
It's very windy outside.
I've experienced it.
What is your strategy for lighting a cigarette in the wind?
Well, my caddy's got to the point now. windy outside. I've experienced it. What is your strategy for lighting a cigarette in the wind?
Well, my caddy's got to the point now he kind of moves his
like belly right into the wind. So then I can use it shelter and then I like it.
That is an excellent, excellent use of the caddy.
How do you feel about putting cigarettes out on the green?
I do it. I'm a ghoul again,
though. Okay. But so I know I on the green. Yeah, I don't. I make sure I spent my cigarette
from the tea box I did to the fairway or from the fairway to the green and just give it
to my caddy after and he well, I wouldn't want to check on the ground because that would
have made me look even worse at the US Open. But I'd give it to him and he would put it in his bib
and then put it out and put it in the bin.
But was one hole in the US Open,
it was still a lie and it burnt a hole through the bib. he carries better than he does if he was sober like from the night before
Yeah, it's crazy. He's a legend
He's Australian as well
He's a cool guy
What can you tell us about?
Australia and your life in Australia not with your friends, but what can you tell us about growing up there?
Growing up around golf and that experience
Well, I don't know because I'm not from Australia. I'm from England my caddies from Australia. Okay. I'm sorry
I
Misunderstood her I thought I did I misunderstand her that's my bad my fault there
Forgive me for my ignorance there. We will edit that out out Let me pick that up here with something else my apology there. We're gonna edit that out. I mean that was glorious
I love that yes
Yeah, we're from South that's very funny listen I want to ask a serious question here, okay
I want to ask you a serious question how many cigarettes per round?
Okay, I want to ask you a serious question. How many cigarettes per round?
At the beginning that we wouldn't wear out with the cigarettes because then it's leading to something I want to quit she wants to quit I want to quit with her. I think we're gonna make a pact here
I'm just wondering how deep the smoking is like so for 18 holes if you're left to your own devices
It's just you how many cigarettes I love, outside of a garage,
the golf course is my second favorite place
to have a cigarette.
Yeah, the views.
I like a nice view and having a cigarette.
We call them f***s in England.
But I literally, I don't know, probably about five.
I smoke five and then I try not to smoke
money after that anyway.
But listen, I literally just, I'm stopping now anyway, I've gotta quit.
I made a promise to myself and to my friend
that I'm literally gonna quit, so yeah.
Next tournament you won't see me smoking.
You say it and it means something.
Stugat's promising to do it with you means nothing at all.
If Charlie quits, I quit.
That's the deal, okay?
His words mean nothing.
He's been
saying that he's going to do that for a while. I regard what you do as incredibly lonely.
It is hard. Yeah, 100%. The amount of effort that it requires and concentration and focus
to beat other people who are being competitive about wanting to do this for a living. The
way that people get there is usually pretty interesting and I'm wondering what you regard as the most interesting parts of your path.
So it is very lonely. It's very hard to with relationships as well. Obviously,
coming back and forth from America, it can be very, very lonely and a time difference
before you go to sleep. You're not really speaking to them because they're asleep and
it's just the travel kind of wears you out a lot and then you're by yourself a lot so it gives you more time to think in your
head which isn't a good thing because I'm an over thinker so I kind of get myself in
the gym a lot. I love going to the gym six seven times a week I'm really really smashing
it and that's kind of my getaway place. The gym and the golf course are my two getaway
places and hanging around with my good friend Georgia Georgia Hall. She's my best friend and she's on tour as well.
And we just hang out and chill and yeah, kind of try and inspire each other.
But I love being out on that golf course. I love playing golf.
Like literally that's my favorite place to be,
but it's just the whole other thing around it. The travel, you know,
being in the room for 12 hours by yourself. Like I do find that quite hard.
Is there a course that you haven't gotten to play yet
professionally that you really want to play?
I'd love to play Augusta.
I've been there, I've watched it.
But I think as a kid growing up watching golf on TV,
Augusta National would be literally the cherry
on top of the cake.
Stu gots, you can get her there, right?
Can I get her there on the course, playing the course?
I can get her a ticket and she can come with me if you like.
You make false promises to everybody.
You're not going to make one right now.
I'll get you on Augusta, okay, Charlie?
If you quit smoking and I quit smoking, you and I will go smokeless throughout Augusta, okay?
But that's a place where I'm dying to have a cigarette, Charlie.
Well, I know, but listen, I stopped.
I actually haven't had a cigarette in a good few days because I'm quitting. So there there you go. Like, get me on Augusta. This can't be helping this interview. You've had four
today, Stu. I know. This is not good. This hour. I know. I promised her we wouldn't do this. Charlie,
I have a question about golf and the US Open is this weekend. The men are already complaining
about the greens at Pinehurst too. I have played that course. The greens are ridiculous, but boohoo,
men. Like, seriously. For one weekend, you have to play a difficult course. You get to play all the course the greens are ridiculous but boohoo men like seriously for one
weekend you have to play a typical course you get to play all the nicest
courses in the world they're pristine they're perfect the greens are great and
this week should be tough do you agree or disagree with me I love a hard golf
course I wish they made more golf courses harder throughout the year I
like the majors I wish they make them longer, but listen, everyone knows a challenge. Last week at the US Open, it was very, very, very fast greens
and it's almost a little bit too hard to put on sometimes. But at the end, there is the US Open,
it is a challenge and I'd rather be sitting in my armchair watching golf with the best players
in the world struggling than I would see them shoot under par or shooting the lights out because I find that way more interesting.
And that's just my personal opinion.
The guy that just asked you that question
plays golf about six times a week,
but he still couldn't be more average at it.
Below average.
If you had only a pitching wedge,
you only have a pitching wedge,
how bad are you beating him?
Ooh. You only have a pitching wedge. How bad are you beating him? Oh, I don't, I think that's a bit of an ask. That would be quite, quite tricky.
What club? If you could pick one club.
Imagine there's holes if I can't carry the... I'd play with a six iron. No, a seven iron.
So you would beat me with a seven, no putter.
What's your handicap? What's your handicap? What do you play off? It's like a 25 his handicap is playing golf
Yeah, yeah, I think if the golf course wasn't a trick if it was golf course wasn't too long
I think that because obviously as carries I think I would
Give a good shot. Well, how long do you hit a seven iron? It's my 170 club
You destroyed me. Yeah, I think you'd beat him up
You've been outspoken about your diagnosis of attention deficit disorder
You were just talking a moment about a moment ago about thoughts in your head
Golf helpful with this because I would imagine the the concentration it
requires is is a perpetual test. Yeah I find it's quite hard when when it's very
slow out there it gets what like gets worse. I hate I do struggle a lot with a
lot of stuff but I do find keeping busy and going to the gym is very important
for me with my mindset. I've never really wanted to take the tablets even though probably I was
actually thinking about it earlier today because I have up days and down days
that maybe the tablets would be a good thing for me to do but I'll probably
look into that more into the winter but yeah being on the golf course and slow
rounds is very it can get in your head a lot.
And long plane rides as well.
Was it helpful for you in any way to give it a name,
to get a diagnosis?
Yeah, it was very interesting.
I've always been known to drink a lot of water.
And this will sound random, but a lot of water.
And it just makes me feel better sometimes.
And I was speaking to the doctor and they
do say when you feel a bit weird and you drink quite a bit of water when you have ADHD it
does make you feel better. So I've been doing stuff you know like for ages that that can
help me but didn't realise why but it's because of my ADHD and I can never sit still. My mind's
over thinking but then some days if I I
Crash out and I could just sleep but the long stuff ever slept for us 21 hours straight before
That's a good sleep
And then other days I get three hours sleep
Like it's crazy. That's a bad sleep
Lucy's seen really Lucy seemed terrible when our terribly jealous of your ability to get 21 straight hours of sleep 16 I think I think that I think that was from having like consistent free weeks of like three hours sleep and
Georgia whoo who pays on tour
Kept ringing me and ringing me and ringing me because she thought I was dead and I was like no George. I'm just gonna sleep
And now you've woke me up
Would have been even longer than a few more hours
She was going for
Charlie thank you for tolerating our bombardment of cigarette questions. We appreciate it and Australia. Thanks
I just want to say I just want to say kids do not smoke. It is not good for you
I don't want to be a role model for smoking and anyone but but at the end of the day, I'm trying to stop.
Thank you.
Yes, she's trying to stop,
and she would like to not have any more questions
about that.
Well, it's longer than you ever do.
I know, I'm impressed.
I don't even know what it's like.
Does it get easier after a day or two?
Charlie, thank you for being on with us.
Thank you.
No worries, see you later.
Every single time my team plays on television, I am sitting behind that television screen
with a Miller Lite or three.
Miller Lite keeps it simple.
Undebatable quality, taste as great as your barbecue, it's the beer that strips away
everything you don't need and holds on to what matters the most.
With the Miller Lite in hand, grilling doesn't just taste great, it tastes like Miller time.
