The Dan Le Batard Show with Stugotz - The Big Suey: The College Football Playoff
Episode Date: December 4, 2023The whole crew has strong takes on the College Football Playoff Selection Committee after FSU was excluded from the Playoff after an undefeated season, Georgia was discarded, and Alabama found its way... to the party. Does the regular season not matter? Are losses better than wins? Is this JUST a made-for-TV event? Should Jordan Travis have broken his leg sooner? The conversation continues as Chris Cote seems to see every side of the debate, Jessica rails against Michigan's inclusion in the Playoff after cheating, and Stugotz flip-flops in his opinion that the regular season should matter most. This entire thing is a clusterbleep. Plus, we do finally get to Tony's NFL takes that were backed up to the point of a nose bleed. Those 49ers, huh? Learn more about your ad choices. You're listening to Giraffe King's Network.
Welcome to the big, sweet, presented by Giraffe King.
Why are you listening to this show?
The podcast that seems very similar to the other Dan Levitard podcast.
I'm sorry, I'm not going to apologize for that.
In fact, the only difference seems to be this imaging.
I have been tempted in restaurants,
just walking past tables to grab somebody's fries
that if they're just there.
That hasn't happened to you guys.
I've done it.
And now, here's the marching man to nowhere,
that face and the habitual liar.
Stugots, I don't believe that you really can draw up
a better scripted ending than bodies crashing into each other,
you know, at violent speeds, everyone's injured.
We're three-fourths of the way through the football season.
Nobody's healthy.
Everybody's physically broken.
They're all trying to get to the stage where the four stages
in the minor leagues of football,
the four stages that there are to be the better team.
And everybody who is watching what was happening this weekend,
prefers, I feel, like the argument to everything that happened Sunday,
everything that happened, that the argument is better,
that what we want at the end of the broken bodies is committees and
arguments and let's say my team was better even though all these bodies just broke and
fsu season hey we're not going to reward them even though they did the hardest possible
thing two teams outside the conference in the scc they beat Florida they are you kidding
me that that team goes undefeated and you keep out a team with history because it's not
as big a market because you can make the argument. The thing that's great about the drape
is you can just say, well, the quarterbacks hurt. They're not the best. But man,
this is supposed to be about merit. It's not supposed to be about made for
television. No, it's about the best four teams in the country according to
this committee. That's Georgia. Two quarterbacks for FSU. Got ground to
hamburger. Two of them. Right. right I'm so gods you don't want
the playoff to expand because you want the regular season to matter yes well the regular
season doesn't really seem to matter much to Florida state it doesn't because they did
everything this will be the first time think about all the changes to the the postseason
right that we have incurred over the last 20 years. Because why? Miami got screwed in 2000.
Okay, what's the next most memorable thing?
You had an undefeated Auburn team in 2004
that did not have an opportunity to play for a national title.
So we changed everything to make sure
that a Power Five undefeated conference champion
has the opportunity to play for a national title
and in the final year of the four team playoff format, you have an undefeated
power five that's done everything from a scheduling perspective that you want to do.
With two injured quarterbacks.
That's fine.
But you have an undefeated power five team not having the opportunity to pay,
to play for a national title.
It seems kind of bogus.
I think the criteria is not, you know, you have to be an undefeated power five champion
in the SEC or in a league that the committee respects that season.
I think it has to, like, what has changed and maybe it hasn't even changed.
Maybe we just haven't had to experience it to this degree before as you have to be an
undefeated power five champion.
And recorder back can't have a season ending injury that late in the season.
I think that was my biggest takeaway.
That was their argument.
I disagree because I think as much as their offense
was difficult to watch the last two weeks,
their backup would have been back for the playoff game
because he was out with the concussion
during the ACC championship.
And their defense won them those two games.
Their Florentzade defense played incredibly last two weeks.
And that didn't matter to the committee because the committee
just saw a undefeated Florida State team who's makeup up their
DNA of their team changed to the committee when
Jordan Travis got hurt.
And so I don't even, I wonder if the situation changes if
we're watching Washington win the Pac-12, but Michael
Penix gets a season ending injury two weeks. I wonder if the Pac-12, but Michael Penex gets a season ending injury
two weeks. I wonder if the Pac-12 misses out, even though they had a spectacular season
with tons of competitive games. So I don't know if this is an ACC problem or if this is just
them saying like we value the SEC above everything else, we are not going to leave any SEC teams
out. Like we're not going to have an SEC list football playoff. And also your quarterback got hurt.
Just to me, the main difference is Alabama got the path that they've seemingly gotten
a ton of these football playoff years where they have won loss maybe two, but they've never
had all the other power five conferences do their job.
Washington did their job.
By the way, for everyone arguing, well, they'd be a huge underdog in the playoff again.
So and so Washington just pulled off a straight up upset as a nine and a half point dog.
They've never had the other conferences do what they've need to do before.
But then we haven't seen Louisville look like that all season long.
It's a top 20 offense.
I hear a lot of people saying the ACC is not any good.
And I'm like, you were not watching Louisville's offense all year.
They were.
I came in, but I came in one day and told Mike,
one of their backup running backs, that's a pro.
Like, they've got a pro in their back field.
Louisville wasn't, nobody did that.
FSU's defense is good, I didn't expect them to do it
and they did it with their third string quarterback.
Now, you can make the argument,
if you wanna make sports about just the arguments
that they are a fraud, but I can make the argument,
they might be Cardel Jones and Ohio State because they've got athletes that can run with these
other athletes at Texas and and Alabama that the team I saw from FSU from the
beginning of the season when when we were talking about this stuff was like hey
that team's got as many athletes as all the as as Texas as has the bigger
receivers than Miami that teams are more athletic than most of the teams
are playing again.
Cardel Jones did not look scared when he was out there.
These look like little kids.
They looked like they're 18 years old.
Cardel Jones did not look like that.
I'll sing it over to Jess.
Cardel Jones and Ohio say put up 55 points
in their conference shaping chip game.
However, they didn't play a good team
because that side of the conference
has always dominated the other side, Jess.
Right.
I think the committee wanted to see what Florida State could do the two weeks on offense
without Jordan Travis.
And they clearly weren't impressed.
And just to be clear, I do not agree with their decision.
I am only trying to justify it to kind of explain to people why I think they came to this
conclusion.
I think that it's pretty unconscionable to leave Florida State out of the playoff in
this situation.
I truly, like, I feel terrible for the Florida State players.
I feel terrible for Dorm Travis, his tweet,
which, oh my God, he's clearly, yeah, okay.
Put that tweet.
Yeah, let's throw up the tweet.
Yeah, I agree with everything that Jess says,
and I can also admit that if I could pick any fan base
for this a half and say this is just about the funniest one. But yeah, here's Jordan Travis's tweet, devastated heartbroken in so much disbelief right now.
I wish my leg broke earlier in the season.
That's just an insane thing to say. It's just crazy. But I think like what we watched on Saturday
was Alabama upset a team with a 29 game win streak Georgia, the number one team in the country.
And the committee said we are not going to punish them for losing earlier in the season
against Texas because they rate Texas very highly.
Texas is one of the four teams in the playoffs.
So we're going to put Alabama in just because they have now the best win of the season over
Georgia.
And I don't think that in any other year, that's bad logic.
I think that just because this year, you had multiple undefeated teams. This is how it
took out, but they had to make a tough choice finally. And I think if they're going to leave
out an undefeated power champion, it should be the one that was cheating for the last three.
Well, there's that. We haven't even gotten to that, which makes this so great for television.
What happened to Chris' thoughts? We'll get to them in just a second.
Poor Chris got boxed out. Everyone's got a lot to say how about Tony
Tony hasn't been able to get in at all because poor Tony wants to talk about how
bananas it was but has no no shots because everyone's got too many takes
Tony so backed up with takes that is knows just started bleeding
Chris also just admitted he didn't watch Louisville play the season which i
feel like disqualifies him from the conversation
the Tony's waiting dying to talk will lev it. Oh god, recovering two fumbles.
Oh boy.
Don Lebatard.
We got a freini hard away.
Oh, freini?
Who is a freini hard away?
I was trying to read fast.
You deem is on the team.
Luke Jackson.
Bobby Jones.
The Matrix, Sean Marion.
Stu Gatz.
Zo Shax, M shacks much Parker Chris Quinn
Do you wait Jason Williams to roll right? I mean stacked roster this is the down-leba tar show with a stu-gats
Tony has indeed developed a nose bleed. He's got NFL takes that he wants to get coming out
of his nose. We can't get to them. So, you know how rare it is to be in December and professional
football. The sport gets so crazy that all of us are watching Philadelphia and San Francisco
and all of us are having the same reaction, even though it's just one game. Like, oh my
god, San Francisco is like, they're so fast and so big, and nobody wants to play again, Trent Williams.
Tony's got a lot of professional football takes,
but we're in the rare, rare space,
and it's wonderful where college football is king
because the argument is king today.
The argument is bigger than the action,
and the action has this in the Saints game yesterday.
I saw a guy on the sideline just leg broken in half clearly broken in half guy just gets side swipe. He's just
like a some a sideline person. Like a chains guy like a behind the chains guy. It's like
a backup chains. It's so bad out there. Professional football. This is slaughter that we're trying
to get to the next the last four teams and of course, hell of a game though. Yes, all
of them. We got to get to Alabama. Georgia. We got to talk to the next, the last four teams and of course. Hell of a game though. Yes, all of them.
We got to get to Alabama, Georgia.
We got to talk about the actual games,
but the carnage that it takes just for us to get to the argument,
which is all we want to have today and yell at each other about,
this is why this team's better than that team.
But if it's a made for television spectacle,
does it matter?
Like we can argue about all you want.
It's great commerce, but who cares who the four teams are?
They're gonna put four great teams on television
that a lot of people care about.
Get a bunch of fan bases, get a bunch of money,
and coach primal try and buy better players next year
than your players because he's coach prim,
and he's this charismatic as that.
And it's portal day, I mean.
You keep saying made for television,
like, it shouldn't be that way.
Like, I agree.
Yes, give me games that I want to watch. Do you, Dan, I ask you. You keep saying made for television like it shouldn't be that way like I agree yes
Give me games that I want to watch
Do you Dan I ask you keep saying made for tell you do you want to see?
No, but Chris it's supposed to be merit-based that's sports
No, but Dan all the what has just happened FSUs to got this patently unfair
It's just unfair for what it is that we play sports for you can't look at what happened FSU and say that's not
That's not you didn't set up the rules that way you just you just Jerry rigged the system so that that You can't look at what happened after you and say, that's not, that's not you didn't set up the rules. That way you just, you just jerry rigged the system so
that that team can't get in. Life is unfair. Okay. The kids, it's, you know what? It's a
good growing lesson. Okay. Life is unfair. There'll be better
cuts of it. All right. I mean, perfection doesn't mean as much as it used to mean. That's
what the committee is telling you. And I'm okay with that. Dan, would you answer Chris,
Chris's question because all the people railing against Florida State
not making it in a month from now.
When they hope everyone forgets them railing
about Florida State not getting in,
they're gonna be like, oh my God,
we've got Michigan and Alabama and the Rose Bowl
for the right to go to the championship game.
This is awesome, because it's a better matchup.
I mean, Michigan's team's reaction to Alabama being named the fourth team.
I think was very telling of who they hoped they were going to get.
But I do think that there is like an interesting thing happening here, which is that the historically
with the playoff, they've put the, quote unquote, the teams that have earned it in, even if
maybe the fifth team that was left out did look like they were the better team.
Like that's what they've done.
And then they changed it this year.
And so I think it's the last year of the 14 playoffs.
So I don't think this will happen.
Such a great ending, though.
Such a great punctuation.
It's great because they finally had to make a hard decision,
I think.
This one wasn't as easy as ones where they could just say,
well, this team was undefeated.
This team lost to Purdue by 50 points or whatever,
so they're out.
And that's what they've been able to do.
And so I just think that it's really funny
that in the final year of this,
this is what's happening.
But if you're a casual college football fan
who's just going to tune in on January 1st
and watch the playoff and you're not in the minutia
of the argument, like, yeah, this is playoff. And you're not in the minutiae of the argument.
Like, yeah, this is Michigan and Alabama.
You're probably pretty excited.
This is why Stugat twins again with Alabama.
Who doesn't want Alabama in the playoff?
Couldn't Nick Saban doesn't even have to make
the argument on behalf of Alabama.
But I'd be pissed off if I was Georgia Stugat.
It's like, come on.
Like, that's a dynasty.
That's a, that's a, you don't win 29 straight games
in that conference.
I understand that you don't get rewarded because you did it the last two seasons. It's all about this season
and this season the best thing they played before Alabama was Missouri Dan. Missouri's good.
Missouri's damn good. Missouri would be in a 12 team field. And lose in the first round.
That's the reason we don't need a 12 team guy. It's the opportunity to make to lose.
And Florida state will not get that opportunity. Dan don't need a 12-year-old. We don't need a 12-year-old. We don't need a 12-year-old. We don't need a 12-year-old.
We don't need a 12-year-old.
We don't need a 12-year-old.
We don't need a 12-year-old.
We don't need a 12-year-old.
We don't need a 12-year-old.
We don't need a 12-year-old. We don't need a 12-year-old. We don't need a 12-year-old. We don't need a 12-year-old. We don't need a 12-year-old. We don't need a 12-year-old. We don't need a 12-year-old. We don't need a 12-year-old. We don't need a 12-year-old. We don't need a 12-year-old. We don't need a 12-year-old. We don't need a 12-year-old. We don't need a 12-year-old. We don't need a 12- We don't need a 12-year-old. We don't need a 12-year-old. We don't need a 12 That college football minor league football becomes professional football because when it becomes 12 teams
Missouri's going to beat one of these teams in one of those games
And that's how they're gonna become an even bigger power and college football is gonna become even bigger and bigger
And everyone's gonna be in the money game and that's the game Deon Sanders is trying to get into like that
Deon just wants to be close to those top 12 because that's where the real money is. The television money is contaminated. The sport, it's a free for all.
The committee can, that committee can be bought.
What's best for television?
I, if you're going to look at like television ruining the sport, I don't think that, first
of all, I think the 14, 14-platf was always a bad idea.
And most people that really follow and care about the sport, it doesn't make sense to
you have five power conferences in a 14-platf. It just has never made sense. And now they're skipping straight
past six, which like maybe you'd get your automatic bids for the power five, although the
Pact 12's gone plus at large. No, we're just going straight to 12. Like, none of that has
ever made sense. And also, like, it should be noted the ACC voted against expanding this
year because there were, there was all this conference relime and stuff happening in
the SEC. But I think if you are mad at the networks ruining
college football, I don't think like the 14-platf
is stupid and bad, and it was always a bad idea.
But the entire makeup of the conferences
and what we've seen in conference realignment
and the disillusionment of rivalry games
and the taxing travel schedules that players are going to have next year.
All of these other things like I think are a much more existential crisis and things that are going to
legitimately change what we watch in the regular season more.
So then the decision to leave Florida state out of this.
There's there's always going to be complaints with all this stuff.
And I don't think that people are going to work up the same kind of emotion for number 12 and number 13.
Oh, just wait.
Yeah, that's true.
Oh, yeah.
Speaking true, and where you mentioned that Sioux God's always gets to win is because
he's not a huge observer of college football.
His guiding light has always been, do it against Bama.
And for 20 years remarkably, that's been fine.
But here's a tweet from Benjamin Woke that I want to share.
At Florida State, isn't that great? Pulled away from a six and six group of five team late,
needed a prayer to beat a six and six rival, a three point win versus a four and eight conference
fell lost by 10 at home. Oh, wait, this is from my Alabama file. Because Alabama,
this is just rewind one week. They needed a miracle to be in this situation.
They got it.
Georgia lost the one game they couldn't afford to lose,
which is why they're out.
And I would argue Alabama lost the one game.
They couldn't afford to lose.
Double digits at home against Texas.
And they couldn't afford to lose it because for once
the rest of the power fives did their job.
You guys want drama?
This is what you get with drama, okay?
What you do is you put Alabama to,
you put Georgia at three and we absolutely rematch
the entire thing once over again for all the marble.
I thought the bloody nose was a bit and I can see.
No, it's bleeding.
It's not a matter of time.
He's got so many takes.
He wants to, again, will have his best play history
was recovering to his own father.
He was a great.
Florida State didn't win all of their easy games, he takes he wants to again will ever his best play yesterday was recovering to his own fun. Great.
Florida State didn't win all of their easy games.
Handily like I saw them struggle against Boston College.
I saw them struggle against Clemson and over time I saw them struggle against Miami.
Like I do understand the argument that Alabama needed a miracle against Auburn to even
be in the position that there are now, but Florida State wasn't also they weren't blowing
out teams all season either.
And I saw Texas almost lose at home,
and they didn't because of a miss extra point to Kansas State.
And I've seen Washington play those FSU games
that you're highlighting for the better part of two months now.
That happens in every college football season.
That's right.
Which is why being on a...
It happened to Mama and it happened to Florida State.
I think it kind of like...
Which is why being on...
Can't think one's worse than the other.
But all that is why being undefeated mattered so much because you know you have to navigate that and some
teams don't survive it some teams lose those games floor to say found a way
to not lose those games can I just say the thing that everybody is afraid to say
right I see both sides to this argument what the college football committee has to
do is really hard I I appreciate their effort.
Thank you for your service.
I totally see both sides.
I think if you want to blame someone, blame Brian Kelly.
Ellis, you could have been better this year and Florida states win against the one.
I could have looked a lot better if Ellis, you was able to pull off one of their SEC.
It's a weird.
It's a weirdist thing to me.
It's like Florida state is being penalized for actually winning that game against Ellis,
you because the college football committee all
year has been dying to rank LSU high but can't because that tricky little
loss that they had when they were the five seed they're not in the the playoff
conversation because they lost that game to Florida state lost three games
Mike it's a different it's just different tech like Alabama's this the way the
committee sees it Alabama's lost to Texas is better than Florida States win against
LSU because Texas is the second best team in the country. It doesn't make a lot of sense,
but that's how they view it. And I think it all comes down to Jordan Travis'
syndrome. I think that's actually, that was it for that. They watched Florida State struggle
the last two weeks offensively without him and they decided we want a quarterback like Jalen
Milro, we know he's going to play in the playoff.
We would rather see that against Michigan.
Michigan hasn't played against a quarterback that good all season.
I want to see that too.
And that was their calculation.
Now we know that this has been in their bylaws the entire time.
It's the first time they've decided to enforce this rule.
It's like they can take into account big injuries.
And I sincerely hope that alters how people go
about managing their game.
Sorry, we're up by 15 in this fourth quarter.
Let's go ahead and bench our quarterback
because he might get hurt and that might affect our standing
in the college football playoff.
It's just, it's a tough break.
They did what they had to do.
They're the first team since Auburn
that goes undefeated in a regular season
that doesn't have an opportunity to play for a national title, that should mean something going undefeated inside the ACC, which by the way,
was 6 and 4 against the SEC this year.
And I've heard Paul Feinbaum say, well, you can't count Wake Forest against Vanderbilt,
that shouldn't have any sway in the national title.
Bullshit! Bullshit! We're just cherry picking what our arguments are,
because the whole thing about the SEC is the weekly weekend and week out grind Mike FSU
The part about this that is most inherently unfair like this is simple
It's why we can argue about it so well so often and so long stu got sports are supposed to be if we're we're doing random
Measurements of everything it's all subjective but at the end that there's a champion
It's supposed to be a measurement of merit.
It's not, but it's supposed to be.
If you beat all the teams in your conference, one of the power conference and you schedule
Florida and LSU outside of the conference.
But you're down to your third string quarterback, Dad, and that should be factored in it.
But what I'm saying, but what I'm just saying, we can argue back and forth on all of this.
The fairest thing though to say is that FSU in schedule and everything
else did absolutely everything it had to do. And so it's unfair that they're not in.
I didn't say beat LSU. I said beat Alabama. They beat LSU.
Two teams. They schedule. You have a Texas scheduled Alabama and they beat them on the road.
We're taking our eye off the ball here Michigan schedule ECU UNLV bowling green
Penn State laughing at the U fans and that's really right now
They've been they had to play Iowa the big 10 West has never won in a big 10 championship game against the big 10 East
Michigan has skated in all of this and the entire time they had a guy
cheating at other games and coming back and giving them all the signals and Harba was
buying hamburgers and it doesn't even matter!
Don Lebatard!
You are very comfortable talking about how you met your wife, how much you love her,
how important she is to you and that's the reason that I asked the question
I've always admired that about you that you are and you have no problems whatsoever
professing your love
Well, thank you is I got a new wife now, you know me and Bianca didn't make it
So I moved on we moved on it was for the better of better both of us still got things just got a little awkward there
So let me be the first on this show to congratulate you on the new wife vans congratulations on on feeling whole feeling complete
You know
Let's talk tailgating. Yeah
Don't be those don't feel awkward buddy
Don't be those don't feel awkward, buddy. I don't know.
I don't.
It's much too late for that.
I appreciate you soothing me in this regard, but I already feel terribly awkward.
And then my teammate comes to my defense with not a question, but just a healthy.
Congratulations.
And the further pointing out of that awkwardness because he's always good for me in those
spots, I'm also thinking of divorce
vince after many many years 18 years with a partner who does things like that to you.
This is the Don Limita show with this two gods.
We're supposed to do a four hour show. I'm kind of embarrassed to admit that I think Chris
nailed it right on the head.
You're you're perfect, but I can't stretch that out for four hours Chris.
No, no, no, it's hard. It's hard.
Two teams are going to be pretty pissed off just because damn more people went undefeated this year.
That sucks. How dare you Washington win that game? If Oregon won it, we could have Jerry rigged it some more.
That stinks. I just want to laugh at FSU fans really.
One of the problems is the committee put FSU in.
And so they said winning your conference championship
removes you from the conversation.
We're right.
Which is crazy.
If this was a plan, why did they put FSU at four last?
I know.
Crazy.
It's a great question.
Also, how is, OK, in all seriousness about Michigan,
how is Michigan the best team in the country?
Over Washington, Washington has more wins over ranked opponents.
They beat Oregon twice who the committee was saying all year.
It was the sixth or fifth best team in the country.
I know Michigan has one over our house.
They sure, but Washington by the committee's own metrics should be higher.
They should have been able to choose where they were playing in the semi-final.
And instead, they're going to get the sugar bowl against Texas,
which is obviously going to be more of a Texas crowd, you would think, then the Rose Bowl, which is now where Michigan and Alabama
are going to play.
But Michigan got the more difficult game, I feel like.
That's the harbob punishment right there.
The harbob punishment.
Now you have to play Alabama.
The NCAA punishment on harbob is you get Alabama instead of FSU.
That's the punishment.
Look, you thought you might Iowa, the Oregon.
Jessica, Jessica, it's moving very fast for Stugat.
She's a casual college football fan. What do you mean I was right? It's just all about Look, you might Iowa, over Oregon. Jessica, Jessica, it's moving very fast for Stugat. He's a casual college football fan.
What do you mean I was right?
It's just all about Alabama, Alabama, Alabama, Alabama.
Are you making Alabama better than Texas?
I am.
But Texas did it against Alabama.
That was early in the season, Mike.
Oh, come on.
Different team, Alabama.
Different quarterback.
I mean, that quarterback has been great.
Not good.
He has been great to the three.
It's about three.
It's about Stugat's Millro, they put two spies on him
and sat at his game and stopped him like in the second half.
He was like, they got, they got, they got, they, they, did you watch?
Yeah, he's in the playoff.
I know.
Okay, okay.
I think that's that also.
Jordan, the, the, the most disgraceful thing here is how cutthroat all this is and kicks
Georgia to the curb.
Like that was a great champion.
Like, oh my God, what you guys did, winning the business of this thing where you knocked
off Sabin and now he's a lovable underdog that Chris Cody is rooting for last week because he rooted for
exactly this scenario where still got to come in and just like drink a drink a bourbon
and just a side up next to his friend. I want to see Alabama in January because that's
what the holidays are about. But here's George's non-conference UT Martin ball state in
UAB. So I think they're ending, they end up getting punished here by not playing
maybe in ACC school, maybe just any other
non-conference school that's in the conversation late
in the season two.
I think they did a little bit of what Michigan did,
which is like they're not gonna really play any one hard
in the first part of the season,
which by the way, the argument for playing
a good non-conference opponent in week one or two,
don't do it.
I don't know why anyone, like this bit floored a state in the ass.
They won the game and it didn't even matter.
Well, Texas beat.
They won a bigger game.
Alabama lost the game and it didn't.
Well, I would Alabama agree to play that game again.
That's why they never, they never do this, right?
I'm changing my mind with every sentence you guys have.
No, but now the top.
That's the beauty of it.
I am just like lying back and forth.
I'm like, up, just as right.
It's a good point.
Oh, it's, dude, it's right.
It's, dude, it's, it's, butxas is coming to the s cc so that becomes
the super conference where they're playing all the minor league but professional
games i want to get back to what you were saying though jesica and ask an
honest question if this is a merit-based thing meant to crown a champion
i'm legitimately confused about how much credit i'm supposed to give to hard
off he does win this thing like he hasn't been there for the only game that they won like he was banned from the stadium for cheating like it's suspended for half
the season he missed the first part of the season the last part he's saying in your personal record
book he might not get a rating legitimately i'm gonna use it if you're not I'm legitimately asking
all of america how much credit do we give gym harboff? They win a champion gym and he like coached
three of the games and just gave a bunch of press conference.
It's like, it does get buried in all this
how awkward Jim Harboff was after that game.
That looked like a guilty guy.
He did like the first thing he said, bet!
And then he was just like trying to like bring all his guys up.
It was just, I don't know, if he was completely innocent,
he would have acted differently.
I got the vibes of this guy if no seas guilty so he's just like I'm gonna smile the shit
out of this I'm just gonna be super happy
but
come on you talk and it's just like you're gonna have to google what that means
yeah it was a weird vibe he was so hot I think Chris and I had the right measurement for
this the way they should do it because when Michigan learned that they were playing Alabama
Nothing, but if you told them they were playing Florida state that room would have been cheering
So got you have to watch some of this everyone enjoyed Michigan's reaction to the horror like the horror of you learn hooray
We're the best team. Oh no, it's saving would say then. Potspot, do you still face the ship back down to number five?
Okay, thank you.
Who's the four?
Ah!
That's it.
The woman gets stepped on there, like, Sam, like, someone who swashed to death.
You haven't really watched a car accident? That guess, I mean.
No, there's like two seconds of genuine reaction,
and then you realize that they're realizing,
oh wait, this is gonna be videotapes.
So then you get the fake, like, all right, yeah,
we want them that's totally insincere.
Yeah, bring on Bama, and it's like, no, you don't mean that.
Now imagine it's Florida State.
World Cup celebration video.
There is a dude that hides himself in his hoodie
upon hearing Alabama.
He just puts his hoodie over his face like,
no!
Tony, I have watched you squirm in that corner.
I felt bad for you for the last 90 minutes or so
because it's not just the nose.
It's that he is dying to talk about big football.
Sunday.
He wants Sundays.
Everyone's talking, everyone's chattering around here
about Saturdays and he wants to do Sundays,
but we're going to get back to Saturdays.
So Tony, I will give you one muffled take
through a nose that is bleeding.
A nose that is bleeding because you can't get all the takes out.
I will give you room for one take here from Sunday football.
Sunday football taught me this, Dan.
All the sudden, the MVP market for the NFL has swapped.
We're now Brock Perties, three to one favorite to win the MVP after that win in Philly.
I'm intrigued.
I wish you could fade like odds right there.
Like, I wish I could bet that he isn't going to win MVP.
So like if the odds are so good,
let I don't know, give me odds on, I bet he won't.
You can by betting other folks.
So bet every other person?
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, versus plus 350.
But I want just one bet, no he won't.
I'm feeling damn good about my Brock Purti MVP ticket.
Oh, Mike Ryan with a plus 1500.
Mike Ryan, Mike Ryan for whatever,
whatever stuff Mike Ryan with a plus 15 hundred. Mike Ryan for whatever, whatever stuff Mike Ryan is reading in order to find the money
in the crevices of gambling advantages.
Mike Ryan said San Francisco is going to score a ton of points and San Francisco is going
to cover and I'm going to put that's going to be big bet for me because I know how good
San Francisco is when healthy.
Trent Williams is a beast when he's out there,
Debo Samuel's changing everything for them.
He's their Tyree kill.
Well, Purti is the MVP, which Trent Williams is out there.
I feel like if you're getting out in front of a Brock Purti MVP,
you have a lot of tickets out there.
I have him into it.
I have him into it, yeah.
More tickets.
Because I think that's where the value is.
And I also got a head on the dolphins to be
to have the best record in the NFL.
I'm feeling real good about that.
Feel the way.
We hear about the ones you feel good about.
Jordan loves.
Right, exactly.
Jordan love.
Low key kind of figuring it out.
Really good.
Yeah.
I'm impressed with them.
But for me over the last few years,
you know how su gots is with Nick Sabin and Alabama?
That's how I am with Cal Shanahan and the 49ers.
And I'm kind of worried because they're a little healthy right now.
They usually get healthy towards the end of the year.
But I think it jumps out to anybody.
This team has a physical advantage.
They have a tactical one and they have the horses to actually carry out what has proven
over a third of the NFL's history is a cheap code for a ground game.
And now they have Christian McAfry at the center of it.
They have a cheap quarterback that is making plays.
He's making the throws when they do turn to him.
They have a guy like Debo Samuel,
who's impossible to bring down on his size.
And on top of that, he's fast as hell and physical.
This team is more physical and tougher than everybody else.
They travel well because defense travels,
run game travels, they are in my mind
and have been for the last two years
and they just got hurt last year,
the best seam in the league.
The other thing too is an Eagles evangelist
and a Jalen Hertz evangelist is tough to see
because I had a couple of unies on the Eagles,
but the more important thing is San Francisco drives,
75, 77, 85, 90, all consecutive drives at all score touchdowns.
And when you're doing it at the link against a defensive line like that that showed they
can stop Miami who's got a great offense.
It's it's eight.
They can stop anybody.
It's a deep Fletcher Cox has played 180 games for them and they got someone else on
the line.
He's like 189 of them.
Hassan Reddix incredible off the edge and it didn't matter.
Yeah.
Like they would just get yard after them getting gashed
Is alarming to see it done that way. They've they're the ones with Lane Johnson man
Do you know how fast and I was just watching style playing Johnson playing Lincoln's boss up?
Yeah, did you see that video? It was like to Kaiju going together. That's right
I but I told you a few weeks ago that I did nothing but watch trying Williams because the guys got on documentary on prime silverback
Everyone in that league fears him why
there's a dude who ran away from him
uh... turned his back and ran away because everyone's afraid of him he comes out
of that tunnel with the with the the beat box and everybody else and you know
that they're tougher than everybody else and and and they've got they've got a
running back that leads the league in in. I think it's fairly consensus that the best three teams in the NFC are Dallas, Philadelphia,
and San Francisco.
I guess you can make it in our Detroit for Detroit out there.
But I think they're, they're on the fringes of that conversation.
San Francisco has kicked Dallas and Phillies ass.
Yeah.
You're right.
Did you hear what Mike said though?
Did you hear what he said?
A team is getting healthy at the wrong time. I mean, and he's right. Did you hear what Mike said though? Did you hear what he said a team is getting healthy at the wrong time? I mean
Yeah, they usually start doing this because they got banged up and they lost what was a three straight
Pretty they were writing columns at all. Pertie isn't the guy and then they get healthy and then you see exactly what this team can do
For me, it's the only thing that can stand in their way who made Philly schedule. I mean, it's brutal
You have to factor that in don't you? Yeah, so a tough one. I suppose those two gods, but they were saying, and they played Kansas City in Buffalo,
and have they played Dallas, say, but to this, but now they have they were saying they have to come in
to the link, right? That's what was the link. Yes, that's what they were. That's what the
sunretic was saying, right? And, and, and so San Francisco, like, it's not just that they were
tougher, like, let's not get, let's not lose sight of what just happened.
The Philadelphia Eagles, Super Bowl, won laws,
Kelsey's, the Super Star, they all want that fame.
Tyree Kale, they all want what Jason Kelsey has now.
Famous because they've been at the top of the sport.
San Francisco's been the best team in the sport for three years.
They went into Philadelphia last year
and couldn't play a quarterback because the sport, because football happened to them and McCaffrey's in quarterback because they
don't know what to do. And Philadelphia started talking shit about that from there. And
Trent Williams goes in yesterday and did you see how much fighting there was in that game?
Because Philadelphia is like, no, where is tough as you? And San Francisco is like, no, you're
not. Not when we've got Trent and not when we've got D-Bo.
You wanna play football?
We'll beat you there.
You wanna fight?
We'll hit your security, man.
We'll get ejected from the game
for hitting your security guy on the sideline
because it's not football anymore.
You wanna fight?
Let's fight.
Let's do it that way.
We got Trent.
We got D-Bo.
What are you gonna do?
Give up four straight drives right down the field
when the place is buzzing and in the first quarter,
we can't get a first down. And then what do we do? We kick Jason Kelsey's ass up right down the field when the place is buzzing and in the first quarter we can't get a first down.
And then what do we do?
We kick Jason Kelsey's ass up and down the field.
It felt like football, Dana.
Oh my God.
It felt like football.
That was right.
Fred Warner is a mess.
We haven't talked about big dom yet.
Are you kidding me?
If it's San Francisco went into Philadelphia
and they told Cereoni that caveman, we wanna fight.
Big dom versus Trent Williams. went into Philadelphia and they told seriani that caveman we want to fight
big don versus threat Williams.
We'll hit your security guard in the face.
Do it in the playoffs.
