Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey everyone, welcome to the flop house. I'm Dan McCoy. I'm Stuart Wellington. I'm Elliot Kaelin. No jokes needed, Dan. Yeah, it's true. Well, I was a little distracted because Stuart looks so bemused by me saying my name. No, I was still laughing because that was like the fourth time you're like, okay, let's just get into it. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Yeah, you know, I think, you know, a lot of false starts helps our energy as a podcast.
Starting point is 00:00:36 That's what I'm really. Yeah, yeah, it's the audio equivalent for us of struggling to get a condom on. In the middle of sex, yeah. The best part of sex. Yeah. It's the puzzle aspect. It's like the reverse escape room for your penis. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:00:52 Yeah. Why couldn't we just be born with ballistic penises to deal with labyrinthine duck vaginas? Yeah, exactly. Like in the movie, ballistic penis is X-penis versus sever penis. I Thought you were gonna say why couldn't we just be born with condoms I can think of one problem with that. Yeah
Starting point is 00:01:19 Anyway, so this is the flop house obviously It's a movie podcast normally. It's about bad movies. We talk about them But in all right this episode into your garbage We talked about penis is the flop house could be a title for a penis podcast. Yeah, true So we do two of those or three depending on how many the Saturdays are in a month What do you call them main episodes a month but on the off weeks we do these minis which are kind of a little you know uh... a snack to tide you over between uh... those episodes and tonight i'm in the driver's seat
Starting point is 00:01:58 uh... which means cancel ride as the games, the cancel ride. As. Watch out, Nux is driving again. Oh boy, we're going right into the storm. As is usually the case when I'm in the driver's seat, I have to vise a little game for us. Oh shit.
Starting point is 00:02:16 Here comes Jigsaw again. That's how we react. Here comes Jigsaw again. Well boy, this is Dan as Jigsaw. That's how to react. You're just saying. Oh boy, this is Dan as Jigsaw. He'd be like this. How would you like to play a little game? There's a bomb. Hold on a second.
Starting point is 00:02:33 Wait, let me just press that stuff. Wait, let me get this right. OK, OK, OK, there's a bomb and you need a key to it. Wait, hold on. Let me wait. Wait, wait, wait. I have it to my email. Just give me a minute.
Starting point is 00:02:44 Let me just hold on. And you just see Jigsaw scrolling through his phone, find the email that was in. I'm like, he's not even in his email app. He's an Instagram right now. Yeah. Well, okay. So Dan, so you're your modern day Jigsaw in a 20th century world and you've got a game for us. Yeah, and the premise of the game is so, we often like to dig up out of our memories, movies that have left no cultural footprints, movies that people have forgotten, our friends over at Blank Check like to call them movies
Starting point is 00:03:21 that don't exist, which I think is a good way to define them. So my game is going to be this, call them movies that don't exist, which I think is a good way to define them. So my game is going to be this. I am going to alternate giving you guys the title of a movie that has left little to know sort of lasting footprint in the cultural imagination. And if you're able to tell me anything about this movie, you will get a point. Now, for the purposes of this game, anything about this movie will be defined these ways,
Starting point is 00:03:53 not literally anything, but if you were able to tell me. It was your word, Dan. You're the one who said anything, and now you're telling us we were wrong. If you're able to tell me the director of this film, if you're able to tell me one of the top three listed cast members on IMDB, or if you're able to give me a reasonably accurate description of the movie's basic premise, any of these three things will be acceptable to get you a point. Okay Dan, are there style points? That's a good question. Are there style points? I mean it is a podcast that
Starting point is 00:04:35 we're doing for entertainment so the style will be appreciated by the audience but it will get you know points from me. Like the last game, if someone is unable to give any information about the movie, the other player will have a chance to steal. Is there a sound effect? Wouldn't you do a steal? What are Alex wants to do any work? Like a boy. Swips like me. Yeah, whatever that sound that Elliott just made, you can get that out.
Starting point is 00:05:09 I mean, it's so sweet. Swipe swipe. Classic, swip swipe, a real high pitched. Dan, so are we just to be clear? Are we allowed to Google search the titles? No, you're not. You're not allowed to. Okay, just making sure.
Starting point is 00:05:22 For the purposes of this game, that would be considered cheating. And for most games, most trivia games. My fingers are so crossed that I get fucking avatar. Yeah, okay. So alphabetically, we'll start alphabetically with Elliott going first in the first round. That works with the first name and last name. Uh-huh. I did actually go through that, uh, that in my head.
Starting point is 00:05:51 Oh, my. Stuart, what's your middle name again? Lenton. Yep, minus Charles. So, are all three names above stewards in the alphabet. Elliott, Elliott, Charles, Kaelin, Stuart, Lenton, Wellington. What fancy boys we are tonight. Yeah, we're a little, a couple of little British royals.
Starting point is 00:06:08 Yeah. And I'm Daniel Kirk McCoy. That is my, I'm Daniel Kirk McCoy. Oh, I'm Twitter. Dang McCoy. Okay, so Ellie. Not because of your nugs. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:06:21 My nugs are pretty dank, but that is not what I named myself that okay On story how do you name myself in general? I hear you how are your nugs pretty dry? Yeah, okay, that's our that's our little side game. How are your nugs? Okay, Elliot your first movie that doesn't exist What does what is it do exist? They do these are actual movies even though they call the movies that don't exist. What does? What is it? They do exist. They do. These are actual movies. Even though they call them movies that don't exist. They do exist. They have not captured the cultural imagination. This movie is from 2009 and its title is Beyond a Reasonable Doubt. Can you tell me anything about beyond a reasonable doubt?
Starting point is 00:07:12 I mean, my guess is it's a remake of the Fritz Lang movie beyond a reasonable doubt. And in that case, maybe you can give me a plot summary. That someone has been in that one, I can give you the the Fritz Langwan, someone has been unjustly accused of a crime, but it's actually a plot that they've put together so that they can commit a murder and get off from it. Well, you found a loophole in this game. Elliot, you do get a point for that because it is, in fact, a remake of that movie, this version starred Michael Douglas and was directed by Peter Himes. Oh, really?
Starting point is 00:07:51 Journey Man director. Yeah, from Capricorn 1, right? Yeah. Okay, so that's one for Elliott Stewart. Your... Oh, man, this is going to be rough. Your movie is Being human can you tell me anything about being human?
Starting point is 00:08:14 This is a movie that came out in In 1994 Two hours two minutes long. Yes is is Robin Williams in that shit? Robin Williams is a big human. Nice. I was hoping you wouldn't get it because that's the only thing I know about it too. That is the only thing I would know about that movie. I watched this movie. So growing up my cousin Barbie worked, she was the manager of a movie theater in like Windot or something. some like... The Being Human Theater. And well, because she got occasionally got like to go to pre-screenings of movies,
Starting point is 00:08:53 you know, that they're like auditioning them or some shit for the local movie theaters. And so she, one day to just keep me busy because I was like, what, 14 at the time, time 13 she just had me go watch a bunch of movies So I watched the two movies I watched back to back were PCU followed by being human Oh man, it was basically the same experience Yeah, all this is yeah, it's a if PC is the next one, I'm sorry if I blow up your spot, Dan. And being human's based on a one-man show, right?
Starting point is 00:09:27 That would make sense. Is it, all I know about it is that Robin Williams is pincibly looking out onto the ocean on the cover of it. And I never, I never rented it. I walked by it several times in the video place. I know that it got terrible reviews. You know, maybe it's not based on a one-man show. Maybe I just thought that because it's like
Starting point is 00:09:57 one person doing multiple parts, right? So I kind of remember that. It's kind of a blur. I feel like it would assume it would have something to do with robots because with a title like that, but that's Fiesentennial man. Yeah, that's Fiesentennial man, yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:10:16 I think, did you probably want to say to voice for Disney's robots? It wasn't Disney that moved. It's blue, I think Blue Sky. Or or sky yeah, I think you're right. Anyway, um, yeah, being human part of the craze the short live craze for titles that are gerunds Or have gerunds of them. Okay Back to Elliot changeling. Can you tell me anything about?
Starting point is 00:10:45 Oh, yeah, Angelina Jolie, changeling, her kid gets kidnapped and no one believes her. Sure. Yeah. Clint East would directed it. Uh, wow. He was written by J. Michael's Trisinski, possibly Jeffrey Donovan's in that Elliot knows so much about changeling. Yeah. Hey, we're going to tell you it made a big impact on me. Sorry. Sorry, blank check. No, they picked that movie. No, no, no, these are movies that I just, yeah, I could have, I could have, honestly,
Starting point is 00:11:13 I could have gone deeper with this. I wanted, I wanted, well, I mean, since it's to say movies that made no cultural impact, there's a hundred years of movies. Exactly. I was really worried you were going to be like, hmm, the answer was getting in the kitchen. It's a Joey Brown movie from 1932. This movie is called Foxy Grand Paw. What is it about? No, I wanted it to have a little chance that people would know what I was talking about. That's fair., that's fair. Yeah, Jim. Yeah, change link. All right.
Starting point is 00:11:45 On everything I said about it. Back to Stuart. Uh-huh. Uh, your movie is unshrung heroes. Can you tell me anything about unshrung heroes? Do you better know something? Because I do. Oh, no. Uh, Oh, man, I don't know anything about this. I would assume that it's some kind of a puppet movie or a movie about puppets. But yeah, I have no idea. It's Dustin Hoffman in it. Dustin Hoffman, I don't believe his end.
Starting point is 00:12:25 He's certainly not one of the top three bills. Okay. So I whiffed. Elliot, you have the chance to steal. Swim swipe. Actually, now I was real cocky before, and I'm not sure I'm remembering. Did Diane Keaton direct on strong heroes? Diane Keaton directed on strong heroes, starring Andy McDowell and John Tatturo and...
Starting point is 00:12:42 John Tatturo, yeah. I can see John Tatturo's hair. That was the thing. I remember from it. It's majestic. You can't forget it. When was this from? That was like early 90s, right? Yeah. Let me go. It's 95. It's like a kid. A kid has like, he has like a goofy uncle or goofy uncles or something. Yeah. A couple of offbeat uncles. He learns like a kid has like, he has like a goofy uncle or goofy uncles or something. Yeah, the couple of offbeat uncles, he learns lifeless. I mean, there's just Uncle Buck. I mean, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:13:12 It's Uncle Buck's. There's two uncles. Oh, wow. That's a lot of pancakes. Well, it's like that old lion's movie, that, that second hand lion's. Second hand lions. Yeah. With, with Deb Patel.
Starting point is 00:13:26 No. Old Lions movie. So, Elliot, you stole that one. So, the ball's still in your court for this one. Cyrus, can you tell me anything about the movie Cyrus? Cyrus is Jonah Hill and Riley, right, John C. Riley. That is correct. And Marissa Tomay, I think. Yeah, that is correct. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:46 Cyrus. Yeah. Um, so, Wow, that's a movie I hadn't thought of in a long time. Yeah. Get going. Just more about the moment in headwink and the angry inch when the guy says Cyrus, when he, when he should be saying,
Starting point is 00:13:58 Oh, Cyrus, more than I've thought of that movie. Mm-hmm. Well, that's, that's the first half, guys. It went really fast. Um, and going's that's the first half guys it went really fast and going going into the second half. Oh, so you got some ground to make up because you've got one point and Elliott has four. Wow, okay. That's my brain space is being taken up by this around. Yeah. We have wasted this world.
Starting point is 00:14:27 Our magic put a storm in the sky that has rendered the surface of our planet uninhabitable. But beneath the surface, well that's another story entirely. In a city built leagues below the apocalypse, survivors of the storm forge paths through a strange new world. Some seek salvation for their homeland above. Others seek to chart the vast undersea expanse outside the city's walls. And others still seek. What else? Fortune and glory.
Starting point is 00:14:59 Dive into the ethersea, the latest campaign from the adventure zone. Every other Thursday on MaximumFun.org or wherever you listen to podcasts. This is so bad, you know. They were like, I didn't even know any of this existed. Yeah, yeah. This is why we have these conversations here. So join me in some of your new BFFs every Friday here
Starting point is 00:15:52 and maximum fun to stay informed, empowered, and have some fun, minority corner, because together we're the majority. But before we move into round two, we have a sponsor for this many, and it is better help. SpotCast is sponsored in part by better help online therapy. It doesn't matter who you are or what you have.
Starting point is 00:16:15 Life can be stressful. I know that among other things, hey, I announced two big life changes on Stewart's Stewart's a painting party on Instagram. I no longer Flampaskat. I'm no longer working for the Daily Show. I don't have a day job and I'm getting married, which is a wonderful thing Mm-hmm. I but we have to plan a wedding, which is a stressful thing So there's a new job right there, wedding planner. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:50 So even me, you're even Dan McCoy. You're gonna do the job. Even Dan McCoy, you know, everyone's picture of happiness and mental health, me. I have stress, even me. Oh, wow. Hard to believe. So, you know, why not unload it? Get it out. Talk to someone who is completely unbiased about your life, someone who isn't going to judge you or take sides on anything. You'd be surprised at how much it can help.
Starting point is 00:17:21 Better help is customized online therapy that offers video, phone, and even live chat sessions with your therapist, and it's more affordable than in-person therapy. See what's for you. This podcast is sponsored by BetterHelp, and the Flop House listeners get 10% off their first month at BetterHelp.com slash flop. Have your first session in under 48 hours at B-E-T-T-E-R-H-E-L-P.com slash flop. And also while we're taking a little break in between rounds, we should talk about our live show that's coming up. Yeah, I probably should talk about it at the beginning of the episode. It's possible. It's possible.
Starting point is 00:18:06 I mean, it's still pretty early. Like, if this was a movie and the credits were happening, you'd be like, oh, that's a little bit of a weight, but it's not that bad. That's a good point. That's a very good point. Yeah, we're going to be talking about Super Mario Brothers. We're going to be talking a little bit about it. We're doing a virtual live show.
Starting point is 00:18:22 We've done a couple of these so far. And I'm really excited about doing this because I get to hang out with my buddies, Dan Nelliet, and a whole bunch of you, we're gonna be recording a live show, basically what we'd be doing on stage, except without people booing at us the whole time. That does happen a lot. Yeah, it does happen to our show to boo us.
Starting point is 00:18:43 It's the waste of all of our time. I know. They payin' for the ticket. That's fair. Do what you want. You would think it would be a ton of encouragement. You would think it would be like, it would be a weird combination for all three of us to be heels at the show instead of,
Starting point is 00:18:58 what's that? No baby faces. Sweet boys, baby faces. Yeah, sweet boys. Yeah, we're all sour patch kids so we're we're going to be reviewing the movie Super Mario Brothers a movie that I remember being let's say confused
Starting point is 00:19:12 by when I saw as a kid and I'm looking forward to rewatching it how you can watch it on your own I don't know you're probably going to have to go on a side quest for that and tickets for the show or ten bucks you can find them at Wear Elliott. You can either go to flop house podcast.com slash events to find the link there or you can google flop house simple ticks, Mario brothers, and it'll take you right there. This is on Saturday, September 25th. So the show's coming
Starting point is 00:19:43 up pretty soon after this episode comes out, but still plenty of time to buy tickets. And if you can't make it when it is, which is Saturday September 25th at 9pm Eastern, 6pm Pacific. If you can't make it for that time, then don't worry. When you buy a ticket, you get access to the recording of the show for one week afterwards. It will be archived online for one week. After that week, it will disappear into the sands of time. And you're not going to want to reach into the sands. You'll get all gritty.
Starting point is 00:20:12 You'll get sand in your underpants, uncomfortable. So instead, just why not just watch the show? The tickets are only $10. That's $10 per internet connection or a household. If you're a couple or a thruple and you're all flop house fans, you don't have to buy three tickets if you're watching it from one house. I just want to make sure you know. Yeah. So that's the flop house live, super Mario Brothers Saturday, September 25th, nine PM East, during six PM Pacific, go to flop house podcast.com slash events or Google flop house, simple ticks, Mario Brothers. Yeah, and I would encourage all listeners buy a ticket because again, I don't have a day job.
Starting point is 00:20:50 Mm-hmm. Yep. So this is literally my only source of income currently. Like each of us has taken a turn in the past couple of years where we're like, Flop House. Thank goodness you're here. You pay my bills. You are. I say you're my safety net. Yeah, please. And Dan's been sitting back a little bit just just lighten cigars with $100 bills and then he decided you know what my life needs to change. So flop out. Can you help me?
Starting point is 00:21:15 And then I said, oh shit, I shouldn't have been lighting all those $100 bills on fire. Yeah. It's so cool at the time. Yeah. And hindsight, you're like, this was a waste. That one's on me, guys. I mean, the bigger problem also is that Dan was putting out those fires with gasoline. Just makes a bigger fire. Yep. All right.
Starting point is 00:21:35 Well, now that we've plugged, and I've made a shameless play for your sympathies, back to the game. Again, Stewart, you have one point, Elliott, you have four. I'm arbitrarily doubling the points to this round. I got to right where I want him. Oh, man, wait, what do I, maybe, maybe, okay, well, ask any, ask any sports expert. They'll tell you four to one is the worst lead in sports. Especially in the second round when I've used up all my energy and now you're ready to go. Yeah, do I get any do I get any like bonuses or phone of friends or none of that but you do get to start this round since Elliot started the last round. So I believe Daniel said that points
Starting point is 00:22:23 are double in this round. Points are doubled in this round. Two questions, if I don't get any, you'll be in the lead. That's true. And again, it is pretty arbitrary that points are doubled this round. The movies are not any harder than in the first round. In some ways, they're easier. Like Evan Almighty. Um, in some ways, they're easier. Yeah, like Evan all mighty. It's like, so Stewart, uh, the, your, your movie is the prize
Starting point is 00:22:53 winner of Defiance Ohio. Can you tell me anything about this film? So I think I thought you said they weren't hard to this round. Damn, but the prize winner of Defiance Ohio, whether it be director, top three build or what this movie is about. Can I ask the year of release? The year of release is 2005 and I want to clarify that when I say tell me what this movie is about, you have to give me more than it's about some sort of prize winner in defiance
Starting point is 00:23:29 2005 I'm gonna say Kathy Bates was in it She may have been in it. I don't know. I'm not looking down the cast, but she's not I'm refusing to I'm refusing to learn everything more about this. I feel like I was an educated guest. Yeah, I think so. Pretty good. Elliot, do you have anything for this? Swim swipe. I don't, so I'm just going to say Alison Janney.
Starting point is 00:23:54 Good guess again. This is a movie about, in order to support her 10 children, Evelyn Ryan enters a commercial jingle writing contest and the top three actors are Julian Moore, Woody Haleson and Laura Dern directors. There's all would have been good. There's all would have been good guesses, especially because they were right. Yes. So, Elliot, we're staying with you.
Starting point is 00:24:19 Your next movie is called Breach. Oh, Breach was the story of the FBI case, the FBI spy case, and it was what's, Cooper was in that, right, Chris Cooper? Chris Cooper, yes, is top build followed by Ryan Filippe and Bill Gates. Yeah, Ryan Filippe was the agent who's trying to track him down.
Starting point is 00:24:43 That was a true story. Yes. So, Elliot, you get a couple points from that. Two more points, and six to one now. Ah, Stuart. Welcome to my web. You're sure. You're sure.
Starting point is 00:24:59 The more points I win, the trickier it gets for me. Here's your chance to win back some points. We'll not win them back, just win some. You're not stealing them. This would be a deal that could be an interesting mechanic to include next time. It's a great mechanic, that's true. It's a great stealing, yeah.
Starting point is 00:25:21 Maybe there's a sound effect for that too. That's a wink, something like that. Yeah, sure maybe there's a sound effect for that too. Uh. That's a weight. That's something like that. Yeah, sure, a little bit. Or a sound like a little burglar tiptoeing away. D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D-D Can you tell me anything about the movie White Squall? I can tell you I have something to do with boats. Um, Peter Weir Directive. Um, you know what, close, I know the movie that you're, I think you're thinking of, but no. Okay.
Starting point is 00:26:01 And no, I don't know White Squall. I don't know, I don't think white squal. I don't know nothing about it. Elliot, can you steal... Swim swipe. Did Ridley Scott direct white squal? Ridley Scott directed white squal. I remember my dad being really excited to see that movie before it came out
Starting point is 00:26:20 and I don't think he ever did. Yes, okay, Elliot. I'm gonna stay with you here. It's a blowout, but you have yet another chance. Don't interrupt it in at this point. The movie is blowout. Brian Dupalma and John Dervolta. Your movie is The Evening Star. What is this film? The evening star. Evening star. Was that the movie that Nick Cassavetti's directed? No.
Starting point is 00:26:55 Oh, I'm thinking of a different movie than with Star of the Title. Stuart. Swim swipe. Do you have? Oh, dammit. I know what this movie is. Okay, come back to me after Stuart. Yeah. Stuart, do you have anything Oh, dammit. I know what this movie is. Okay, come back to me after Stewart. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:05 Stewart, do you have anything for this? About a newspaper. Now, I don't know. Dan, is it the sequel to terms of Endearment? It is the sequel to terms of Endearment. Those days. Yeah. Many years later. Yeah. And Jack Nicholson and Trilline and Client are both in it again, right? Yeah. Yeah. Yep. Oh, don't give me those points. Yeah, and Jack Nicholson and Trilline Clander both in it again, right? Yeah, yeah, yeah Don't give me those points. Dan it would be unfair for you to give me those points I'm not gonna maybe give them to me maybe give them to me Stuart I believe you're this is yours. Yep. Okay, so for the final the final question of the entire game This is worth ten points, right?
Starting point is 00:27:48 This is the golden snitch of questions with 100 points. The final question. Can you tell me anything about the gun and Betty lose handbag? If you have been listening to our own show, you should know something about the gun and Betty lose handbag. We certainly got a heavy tutorial on it. That's a weeks ago. Yeah. So what can you tell me about it? In this case, I will accept any of the actors I mentioned. I mentioned a lot of them. I mentioned several cast members. to several cast members.
