Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey, everyone. Welcome to the flop house. I'm Dan McCoy. I'm Stuart Wellington. Sorry. Stuart's already on the beaches of Greece. Guys, I zoned out because I remembered that Lars von Trier posted on Instagram today an offer for people to send in a submission to be his girlfriend. And he put his actual email address on the video. It's crazy. That would be an off putting thing to suddenly remember in the middle of a podcast taping on me.
Starting point is 00:00:34 Yeah. And I'm the other co-host and I can't wait to tell you the news show about flop TV, our monthly live video show, but we'll get to that later in the show. Yeah. So what we could just go do the flop house dot simpleics.com for tickets, but I'll tell you that. Good, great. Yeah. So what we usually do on the show in our so-called main episodes is to watch a bad movie and
Starting point is 00:00:54 then talk about it. And then we do these minis, which are more freeform, do what you like. Usually we trade around who has evidence by what you've already listened to in a chart. Yeah, these are more than jazz, if the so, you know. Yeah. So I'll be heading up this many and allow me to start with an introduction that provides a modicum of the illusion of a framework and reason behind what I'm about to do. Okay.
Starting point is 00:01:20 Here we go. Jim Belushi. For much of his career, he's been a punching bag for critics. He was often criticized unfairly for not being his brother, John, and was often criticized more fairly for just not being that funny. I think it was fair when they criticized him for not being his brother, John, when he would catfish women and show up, having pretended to be his brother, John. That was, yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:42 But yeah, Jim Belushi has been the poster child for Shlubby White Guy, mediocrity. He's had a minor late career reassessment for some things. I think he's a kind of a dependable character now. I like to men, Twin Peaks the return, for example. I thought he was well used, but he's great and thief. But back when he was a leading man, his movies were mostly panned. Yes, Virginia, there was a time when Jim Belushi was a leading man. And the spirit of our recent 90s flashback, I've picked four movies where Jim Belushi is either top or second build. And we're going to play
Starting point is 00:02:20 a little salesmanship game called, what's it gonna take for me to get you into this Jim Balushi movie today? I love that it's a title that doesn't be around the bush. It just explains the premise. Now I'm gonna tell you the title and premises of the movies. And if that's not enough to wet your appetites, for some, appetites, sorry, for some Balushi, I'm gonna tell you a few more facts.
Starting point is 00:02:44 And we're gonna see whether over time I can convince you to be interested. One disclaimer, I've seen none of these movies. Oh, okay. So I've heard of, and the others, I barely remembered existing. So let's start off, guys. Yep, it's 1995.
Starting point is 00:03:02 What if we ruined the game and we just- I was 15 years old. We just, every single time you say, you said to title and we go, yeah, we're in, let's 1995. What if we ruined the game and just 15 years old? We just every single time you say, you know, the title, and we go, yeah, we're in. Let's see it in this episode. So it's five minutes long. I mean, the game is again, sort of a thin pretense for, okay, just general discussion. Okay, the years 1995, you say the years 1995. Okay.
Starting point is 00:03:21 You're you're you're you're perusing the video store and you are presented there. I wasn't old enough to drive myself. So maybe my mommy brought me. Yeah. The DVD or perhaps VHS still cover says separate lives, the movie's called separate lives. And the IMDB synopsis describes it vustly. So wait, hold on, hold on. You bring IMDB
Starting point is 00:03:47 into this situation very anachronistically. Oh, man, did like Dean Stockwell show up? Let's just at least, Dan, let's just pretend that you're reading the back of the box. Have a look. Okay. All right. I'm sure. You can start to the scenario and then you almost immediately remove the truth. That's true. I well here's the thing I can try imagination. I constructed the scenario basically just to introduce the title and then Apparently I was locked into being in that time period. I'm just like what kind of ever fake mind fuck is this right? I don't know for one moment to the next one true In the matrix. Yeah, I've been, Dan, you've read Pilled Me, but you only gave me half the pill and
Starting point is 00:04:25 you're like the other half. I'll hide some cheese for you later to make sure you keep it. That sounds good. You're a steward little situation over here. What if in the matrix, sorry, what if the matrix, Kevin Reeves just hated taking pills. So more feces like pick which one and he takes the red pill and then he kind of went, he goes, what's over there? And he throws it over his shoulder. And the rest of the movie,
Starting point is 00:04:45 we can't really just pretend and he understands what's going on and that he's seeing this stuff. They're describing me. Synopsies come from wherever you like. I just want to make it clear though that in reality they come from IMDB to explain why they are the quality of a user-submitted synopsis from IMDB. The professional copy that you would read on the back of a VHM.
Starting point is 00:05:17 Yes, that this is from an internet movie, Data Ballouche. Okay, separate lives. A psychiatrist asked one of her psychology students, an ex-police detective, to shadow her for a few nights. She fears she is a split personality and may have killed someone. The student has a crush on his cute teacher and says, yes. So, okay, so, man, that sounds great already. That sounds pretty good, right?
Starting point is 00:05:49 Sure. I mean, I have no sense of what the tone of the movie is whether there's an erotic thriller or a wacky comedy. Okay, Ali, aren't you? Teachers cute, though. That's in the text. We know the teacher's cute, and I love cute teachers. My wife is a cute teacher, so I'm all about cute teachers. I.L. Q.T.
Starting point is 00:06:03 That's what your wristband says. Yeah. That was my name. My rap name was E L QT. Yeah. Elliot's love cute teachers. So okay, well, Elliot, are you more or less enticed to learn that the cute teachers played by Linda Hamilton of the Terminator films and the next actor and Beauty and the
Starting point is 00:06:28 Beast and the next act she was the beauty Dan don't make jokes she was the beauty. Yeah, Ron Proman was the beast. Great, great casting. You think anyone ever was like, hey, Ron, to me, you were
Starting point is 00:06:41 the beauty. Yeah, probably. Yeah, that's how I got him into Hellboy. Yeah. You know, it was a sexy beast, just like, what's his face? Ben Grims me. Ben Grims me. Ben Grims me.
Starting point is 00:06:52 Yeah. Now, was he the sexy beast in the title? Who was the other guy, the sexy beast, the actual star of the movie? Ray Winstone. Ray Winstone, yeah. I don't know what the sexy beast was. I don't know what the sexy beast was. I covered in the text of the film.
Starting point is 00:07:05 Okay, so wait, hold on. I mean, they're both sexy beasts in their own way. In their one sexy, your one's beasties. Hey, I'll let you decide which is which. Yes, Dave. Oh, go on, listeners out there. You're all sexy beasts in your own way. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:18 Yeah. Wow. Really makes a thing. A little supportive, you know, I'm trying, I'm trying to get into the Josh Goddleman pep talk. Yeah, Josh Goddleman routinely sexually harasses his listeners with not any of the other ways. I harassed them. I just said, you know, I don't know. Dan, even a comment and not welcome. You're all sexy bees. Take your weeners out. Except, except, except,
Starting point is 00:07:37 except, except, except, except, except, except, except, except, except. Extrap wait from there. Okay, hold on. I want to hear Stuart Sturk Wellington's late night abridged erotic collage. It's a little strange against the, you know, come on, we get it. Yeah, yeah, we moved on to run her, run her fingers over his yada yada yada. You know the drill. You know, come on. By the next morning. Ten years later.
Starting point is 00:08:11 The brats have joined a part. Yeah. Okay. The next actors on top of Linda Hamilton, in addition to, not. In addition to Linda Hamilton, the next actors are Vera Miles from psycho psycho in her final role. Frank DeAngelo was not able to get her stumbling all over this and a presumably very young Elizabeth Moss. Unless the time machine was alive. We've already opened up the possibility of time travel with this IMDB thing. That's true.
Starting point is 00:08:47 Kelly, how do you feel about these facts? Just sorry, is your appetite wetted? I mean, to be honest, I'm very curious about seeing young Elizabeth Moss perform. I'm very end curious about how long time I've known Vera Miles. I mean, I remember Vera Miles well from her classic film roles, yeah. Okay. Now, the synopsis wasn't 100% clear. Does Jim Belushi play the cute teacher?
Starting point is 00:09:07 Yeah. You know what? That's I do want to know which of these characters is the ex-cop who's now a student? Is it Vera Miles? Or is it the fellow who looks like somebody who asks a hot dog of the month club members? Now, now that I've- So how do they deliver the hot dog? Does it go frozen? Yeah, it goes to fresh.
Starting point is 00:09:28 Yeah, well, you get like hot dog. Hot dog. You get hot dog. What do you mean, you get... No, I mean, like, is it cooked when it arrives or do you like to take care of it yourself? You know, it doesn't have sauce on it. You take care of it yourself. You get, no, you get a dozen dogs, you get all the fixings. Okay. Boss.
Starting point is 00:09:43 Does the dog go to the your major on your pat dog? A Bernays? What is the major thing? You get 14 buns, which doesn't make any sense. But in case like you fuck up one of the buns, what are you toasting? I will say this, if you're eating hot dogs with children, they will tear the bun apart the accident while they're trying to open it up. So, bun makers, while you're making those buns so hard to open up.
Starting point is 00:10:02 Everyone will have trouble. Yeah, we'll just give them a big. That happens to me regularly. One out of two buns. Guys, I'm running for Congress and this is my platform. We've got to regulate bun makers. Those buns are too damn hard. You know, wasting them. That's money the American taxpayers losing. These buns, I'm going to do public events where I try to open up hotdog buns.
Starting point is 00:10:22 I just rip them just shreds. I'm like, it's like it's the best. And then the Bonson field ladies like he's attacking me saying the Bonson to dark iron and it's like, no, it's different Bonson I was talking about. Not to not to pair it Dan's favorite politician, New York mayor Eric Adams, but I think it's the fault of the parents in this case. They should be teaching his how to use knives to open up those bonds. Okay. Well, back to the game.
Starting point is 00:10:45 And then the issue would be I would get caught on a hot mic, referring to the slit top, kind of midwestern style buns as a combination. Yeah. And that would really end my campaign. You know, yeah, yeah. We can all agree that's the case, though, right? The slit should be on the side of the bun. Uh, if it's on the top of the bun, that's a lobster roll. Seems like it's kind of easier to use, though, right? Like if it's on the side of the bun. If it's on the top of the bun, that's a lobster roll to you.
Starting point is 00:11:05 Seems like it's kind of easier to use though, right? Like if it's on top. No, because it's never cut enough. You got to cram that dog in there. Speaking of cramming things inside of other things, Stuart, this is more of your erotic radio show. Yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:11:20 Now, having set your interest to flame, I'm going to dampen it perhaps. Maybe you'll like this next thing. I will say the less you talk about Jim Belushi, the more interested I am in this Jim Belushi, so tell me what happens, yeah. Does it make you more or less interested to learn that this is one of only two direct toral credits for David Madden, who is the head of programming for AMC's networks, and that this film was written by Stephen Pressfield, who wrote FreeJack. Okay. Stuart, how do you feel?
Starting point is 00:11:51 Because I'm going to say this in an honor and I'm more enticed having heard of that. Okay. FreeJack, I'm all about it. Is bust, I wonder if Buster poigned extra ships. You have to assume so, you have to assume so. Well, here's the fact that the most notable person in free jank. He's not even the most famous musician. Another one, how about learning that this movie guys is rated R for scenes of violence and sexuality and for strong language. Is that too, thank you for your...
Starting point is 00:12:26 And I feel like strong language. Yeah, well that means that they let the Balouch loose, you know? Yeah, he's not on as a balouch in this... Balouch out of the box. Yeah. So now, just, I want to, you know, if we're talking about 1995, when I would be, until December of that year, I was 13 years old, I would be asking the question where all of us would be asking, is it R rated for nudity or for sexual situations?
Starting point is 00:12:54 It's hard to say. It seems a violence and sexuality. I feel like that means no nudity. As it's been clear, as we make clear to you previous episodes, if you are ever an adolescent looking through the TV guide to find movies with nudity in them, you're not going to want to go to the movie where the listing says nudity because that will be fleeting. You want to go to the movie that's where it's a sexual situation is because that means much more nudity. So strong sexual content, that's the caviar of freighting. So if you're at, if you're a 13-year-old
Starting point is 00:13:24 in 1995, that's what you want to look at in the TV guide to find out if you're at the, if you're a 13 year old in 1995, that's what you want to look at in the TV guide to find out if this and again, and as always, if you see Shannon Tweed in the list, just you're going to have to stay up to watch it. Yeah, just jam your finger on the record button. Okay, well, here's the final. Yeah. So now I was pretty horny so far. So I'm good. I was interested in watching it. Now I'm on the fence, to be honest. Okay, well, last fact, how about hearing that the top review on IMDB raves that it's, quote, slightly above average.
Starting point is 00:13:56 Oh, baby, and that top reviews, what, six out of 10. I mean, it's just the one that was not attributed to me. Yeah. Was that all they said? There was no other information. Yeah, that's it. Well, no, I mean, that's the title. All these I pulled the title of the review. It sounds good to me. I mean, I'm like, I guess I'd be hoping for like a serious erotic, like 90's erotic thriller. And I have a feeling based on the descriptors that I'm not quite going to get what I want. But I do want to see Linda Hamilton and Jim Belushi see if they have that spark, you know? Okay. So that's a yay on separate lies. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:37 Well, I'm afraid to do because I'm going to say when you mentioned the cast, I was like, okay, but the more you told me after that, the less interest that I was. You really sold past the clothes on this one. And I'm going to have to walk. Sorry. That's a name. Okay. Sharks. I'm going to have to quote Cbiscuit America's favorite horse and say, nay.
Starting point is 00:14:54 So our next film of a, again, this is this, this, this, the second out of four, if you want to pace yourselves internally. So you said we should spend less time taking a ride in this? No, no, I am enjoying taking a ride. I'm just giving you the chance to choose the amount of taking around you're comfortable with. Oh, right. The next film is Once Upon a Crime from 1992.
Starting point is 00:15:18 It's a good pun. It's a pun title, yeah. The confusingly worded, so not- Little Red Riding Hoodlam has to get to the mom boss grandma's house, but, but cop the wolf, Jim Belushi, is hot on her trail. Okay, Dan, just take this episode and drag it over to the garbage. Empty recycling. The confusingly worded IMDB synopsis, it goes like this, Phoebe and a fellow American in Rome find a dog
Starting point is 00:15:46 with a $5,000 reward. They take a train to the owner in Monte Carlo. She turns up murdered. They run and become suspects just as three other Americans on the train. It's actually less confusing when I read it out loud. But the other Americans on the train become suspects? Yeah, I think that's like like I think there's an implied they run in the cover. So it's just as three other Americans on the train do as well. That's the cause that is missing.
Starting point is 00:16:12 I was worried the person writing the review was murdered. I died. The hard way through it. Yeah. Just as three other Americans do what? What do they do? So okay, that's not I'm not told yet. You know, it's sold yet. I'm gonna need more. Yeah. Are you even trying to even harbor me to figure out who Belushi is in this, the dog?
Starting point is 00:16:29 Yeah. Yeah. Well, forget the murders on screen. Are you enticed to hear the murderous row of talent in front of the camera? Aside from Jim, we also have John Candy, Sybil Shepherd, Sean Young, Richard Lewis, Juan Carlo Giannini and George Hamilton.
Starting point is 00:16:48 That is in place. George Hamilton. I think you may have had me at George Hamilton and Sean Young. That's an interesting conglomerate to people who would only be in a movie together at that particular moment. Yep. Yep. But you could say that a lot a lot of this is only one moment in time. The grand injunction. There's only one moment in time when Marissa Tome and Kirk Douglas could be in a movie
Starting point is 00:17:13 together. And that's where Oscar was made. So, okay, well, how do you feel learning that this is the only theatrical film directed by comedy legend Eugene Levy? Oh, no, okay. Okay. only theatrical film directed by comedy legend Eugene Levy. Oh, wow. Now I'm okay. Okay.
Starting point is 00:17:29 Okay, well. You're making it more and more interesting, yeah. What was the B.O. for this one? What was the box office? I think the B.O. failed to be Baffo for this. Oh, that's too bad. But I mean, particularly considering that this is the only thing directed by Eugene Levy
Starting point is 00:17:45 that may not have been his decision. Directors do tend to, once they've had a success, go on to direct other films. Unless occasionally they find it very unpleasant, the experience, or sometimes they die young like Gene Vigo, who made, you know, zero for conduct and let out Lentay and then die young. But Eugene Levy, as we know, has not died young. He, thanks. He's still with us, still making us laugh. Second Renaissance.
Starting point is 00:18:11 Yeah, and it's still still continuing atop the Levy dynasty, which is two generations of funny people. Okay, well, are you more or less intrigued to hear that the three credited screenwriters are all Italian and seem to have otherwise almost entirely done Italian language films. A lot of great movies came out of Italy. You said that like it was a bad thing, but there's only a 10-year-old classic cinema. Three people who didn't know the language that well are writing a comedy might bode ill
Starting point is 00:18:42 work for a troll team. All right. Well, what about the fact that it's remake of the 1960 Italian film? And suddenly it's murder also known by its original title, Crimson, or perhaps Crimin. I don't know. Crimin. Criminy. Yeah, yeah. Does that help or hurt or is it neutral?
Starting point is 00:19:05 I guess it's neutral. Again, I'm worried that you're selling past the clothes, so I'm just trying to again, so I'm just going to focus on that cast. Who was it again? You had George Hamilton, Sean Young, John Candy, of course, the Beluge. Who else is in there? Civil shepherd. Oh, yeah, civil shepherd.
Starting point is 00:19:20 Civil shepherd, yeah. On Carlo Gianini, Richard Lewis to me is the only dud here. I've never particularly understood his thing, but Richard Lewis. Yeah. Well, he had kind of like a hockey player, a mullet type thing. Maybe that was really high. Yeah, he was pretty big. Oh, no, he was both.
Starting point is 00:19:36 He loved Boku. Yeah, that did add for that. Yeah, that guy was a half a seema. He was a seema guy. Yeah. Okay. Well, whatever happened to the seema guy, if you're listening Zima guy, right in dry night, he's letter Z and you're letter.
Starting point is 00:19:49 It turned out to be a challenge for you. Now now he's known as Mr. Six, the Six Flags pitch man. Oh, he, I didn't realize he got old and became the Zams. He says there are no second acts in American lives. I remember seeing an, I see an article that was an expose about the six flags. Old man was really a woman in old man makeup. And it was like, yeah, did you really think it was an old that was an expose about the six flags old man was really a woman in old man Makeup and it was like yeah, did you really think it was an old man who's busted those moves out? He would break every bone in his body Come on. Yeah, all right. So the final enticement perhaps again the top IMDB review raves quote I
Starting point is 00:20:21 liked it In that tone, okay, Okay. I may be editorial. Because they could have said, I like it. It's possible. I like, I liked it. Yeah. You know, I'm actually, I think I'm going to pass on this one. A bad comedy. There's nothing worse. I think we've covered on the podcast that there's just, yeah, just does. I'm not looking forward to this one.
Starting point is 00:20:45 You know what, call me a fool for punishment. I think I'm going to say yes to this one because I know it's going to be bad and I'm daring this movie to make me laugh. And if I get one laugh out of this movie, I'll consider it a success. So you know what? Let's see what we can do. Okay, Dan, cue it up. Let's watch it.
Starting point is 00:21:02 Okay. Well, what we do is I'll just run this, what I'll say is a pre-taped ad segment for what the ads we have for this episode. First off, we've got a jumbo tron. We just message four whites for John and Jamie. And it's from Patrick Conner, Mike, Claire, Lizzie, and Matt. Congratulations, John, Jamie on tying the knot. John, thank you for always being an ambitious, creative, and inspiring older brother. Jamie, welcome to the family.
Starting point is 00:21:40 Your love for bad movies, express them, our tiniens and board games make you a perfect fit for John. We wish you both a lifetime of happiness, bad movie marathons and cuddles with noodle. So again, that was for John and Jamie from Patrick Conner, Mike Claire, Lizzie and Matt. If you would like also to have a jumbo, Tron, read on the show, you can do that by going to MaximumFun.org slash jumbo tron. That was a really sweet message. Elliott, I think the only other business we actually have is to talk about flop TV for a second. That's right. That was a really lovely jumbo
Starting point is 00:22:15 tron, but now it's time to get down to business. BossNAS, that is. Hey! So listeners, you've heard me talk about this before. We're doing a show series called Flop TV that's our monthly live video show. It's like a TV show version of this podcast. It's like watching a one-hour televised flop house episode. Hopefully you watched our Beast Master 2 first episode that recording, if I'm getting my math right, may still be available just the day this episode comes out, but it may have been gone from the internet. If it isn't gone, it'll be gone by tomorrow. Don't worry, we've got another episode coming up.
Starting point is 00:22:52 It's going to be super fun. Our next show on September 9th at 9 PM Eastern 6 PM Pacific, Cool World. That's right. We're talking Cool World, Hollywood. Hollywood. It's good. How easily have you seen it?
Starting point is 00:23:05 For this episode, Stuart's going to be doing a special PowerPoint presentation. I don't know what it's going to be about, but Stuart's PowerPoints, if you've never seen them in live shows, are amazing. Stuart is a great PowerPointer. He always manages to surprise and delight me. Dan will be doing the summary of this erotic Roger Rabbit. So you know things you're going to get weird. Please keep me from going down weird path. Turn the lights. Don't light some candle fire on the gasoline.
Starting point is 00:23:31 If everything was a one to watch fire on the gas, don't go fire on the gasoline. Don't do that. Don't put out fires with gasoline. David Bowie tried it and it didn't work out well. If ever there was an episode to list to watch with a piece of tape over the camera on your monitors, and only to see what you're doing, this is the one adults only. Now that's September 9th at 9 PM Eastern 6 PM Pacific. We're going to be broadcasting live over zoom. If you can't make it on that date, do not despair.
Starting point is 00:23:57 Your ticket get to access to a recording of the show for the following two weeks. So until September 23rd, you can watch it at your leisure. Single tickets and also season passes to the whole run of shows are available at theflophouse.simpletics.com. Again, that September 9th at 9pm Eastern, we're doing Cool World as episode two of our six episodes season of flop TV. Again, the first episode was super fun. People really liked it. I highly recommend you join us for this one. We're going to be taking a couple questions from the audience
Starting point is 00:24:27 via the chat feature. You can chat alongside the show with other watchers. It's super fun. Go to the flopphouse.simpletix.com for tickets and more information about our future slate of shows. Flop TV, flop it, won't you? Is that a good slogan? Yeah sure, well maybe we'll try it different one next time. Okay. I'm Yucky Jessica. I'm Chuck Cretzworth. And this is Terrible! The podcast, where are we talking about things we hate that are awful?
Starting point is 00:25:01 Today we're discussing Wonderful. The podcast on the maximum fun network. Oh, it's Rachel and Griffin McElroy, a real-life fairy tale. Discuss a wide range of topics. Music, video games, poetry, snacks. But I hate all that stuff. I know you do yucky jester grunt. It comes out every Wednesday, the worst day of the week, wherever you download your podcast.
Starting point is 00:25:26 For our next topic, we're talking Fyota, the baby hippo from the Cincinnati Zoo. I hate this little hippo. Hey, when you listen to podcasts, it really just comes down to whether or not you like the sound of everyone's voices. My voice is one of the sounds you'll hear on the podcast, Dr. Game Show, and this is the voice of co-host and fearless leader Joe Firestone. This is a podcast where we play games submitted by listeners, and we play them with colors over Zoom we've never spoken to in our lives.
Starting point is 00:25:56 So that is basically the concept of the show. Pretty chill. So take it or leave it, Bucco. And here's what some of the listeners have to say it's funny Wholesome and it never fails to make me smile. I just started listening and I'm already Benjinnit. I haven't laughed this hard in ages. I wish I discovered it sooner. You can find Dr. Game Show on MaximumFun.org. Let's move on to the second half of the show. Oh, I can't wait to find out what more Balushi classics, Dan is uncovered.
Starting point is 00:26:28 Well, this is the one movie with a poster. I at least remember because it features a giant Jim Balushi surfing on top of a much smaller limousine being driven by a half size Charles Groden. This movie is T.C.B. baby is taking care of business from 1990. The synopsis says an uptight advertising exec has his entire life. I'm guessing that's the Jim Belushi character. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no,
Starting point is 00:27:00 no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, during Jim BalluShy. Clifford, during Martin Short and Jim BalluShy. Oh God. An uptight advertising exec has this entire life in a phylofax organizer that mistakenly ends up in the hands of a friendly convict who poses as him. That's the chosen part. Screwball sort of set up, you know?
Starting point is 00:27:25 Real case of mistaken identity. As a person who has definitely seen this movie, yeah. Okay, well then maybe this next thing will have to be directed. Honestly, I don't remember any of it. I have not seen this movie. Well, does it help to learn that the movie features genre favorites Ken for a known for dawn of the dead and from beyond Gates McFadden, Beverly Crusher from Star Trek. The next generation. And of course, Hector Elisando, his genre being Gary Marshall movie.
Starting point is 00:27:58 Oh, and one of the coolest stars in my favorite movie of all time, taking the film on two three features. I thought you were going to say pretty woman. Nope. Okay, I mean, because he's in that. He is in it. Yeah, he's in it. He's in it. He's cool. He's a cool character.
Starting point is 00:28:15 He's a cool character. He's always a cool character. Yeah, except in taking film on two three, in which he's a very hot-headed character. Yeah, that's true. The worst of. Yeah, fire nice. That's a character on the zonda. Yeah. Yeah, that's true. The worst of all. Yeah, fire nice.
Starting point is 00:28:26 That's Victor Alexander. Yep, star of fire and ice, the Ralph Bakker Fantasy film, heck of a Los Ones though. And the big play, back up guitar, in the main road of Scope's phone. So they just were just scoped the thong. They didn't roast the cake. Yeah, yeah, exactly. They don't want to make it too sexy.
Starting point is 00:28:41 Yeah. Well, you more intrigues about this picture. Learning that the screenplay is credited to two people. Jill Masersky, daughter of famous director Paul Masersky, and also JJ Abrams. This is his first writing credit. Wow. Taking care of business. Is where it all starts.
Starting point is 00:29:03 A JJ Abrams joint. I mean, as much as I am inspired by that, that J.J. Abrams can go from recoriting this to doing the kinds of things that he does now, which is Star Wars movies essentially. Yeah, I don't know. I don't know if the cast and the writers are not enticing me to see more about this movie. And the premise doesn't get you hooked. Doesn't it have you, Slaubern? No, not particularly.
Starting point is 00:29:27 Do sound like a classic wacky odd couple mismatch. Well, how about this? How about the reaction? Does surf on the car in the movie? Is that an actual thing? That's actually a really good question. I don't remember. I think he does, though, yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:38 Because as the, I've only ever seen one of the roof surfing movie, and of course, it's Teen Wolf, which is, which a teen wolf, which I used to enjoy as a kid, then I hated as a young adult. And now I'm back around to being like this movie, you know what? All the way over, yeah. Yeah. Well, okay. What about the Russian roulette that is the career of the director of this picture?
Starting point is 00:30:01 Arthur Hill or Arthur Hiller, sorry, who's responsible for at the top of his career, the end laws and silver streak at the low end. There's that one scene in silver streak, which is not so great anymore, but yeah. And at the low end, Carpool and an Alan Smithy film, Burn, Hollywood Burn. Oh, right. I remember when he'd never know what you're going to get with Arthur Hiller, journey man director. Well, I mean, I wouldn't there's, there's, there's any number of directors who have had highs
Starting point is 00:30:31 and lows. It's not always. No, I know, you know, I'm just saying very few directors have perfect record. Stewart Gordon does the the co-enbrothers almost. I'm just like does the risk entice you? I just want to live on the edge. I'm just really now that Stewart said that Stuart Gordon has a perfect career, which I would take some as you with. Wow.
Starting point is 00:30:55 And shortly after his birthday, Elliot, come on. Why are you being such an asshole to Stuart Gordon? You're right. I apologize that I'm being that. I mean, I'm asking that. I'm being a major to say king of the ants. Oh, well, it's a good movie. Okay.
Starting point is 00:31:08 Sorry. Are you minimal for the, yeah, I'm going to pass on this one, Dan. I think I'm going to pass. Hold on, hold on. I'm going to have to hear her complete as well. Well, you can't pass fully yet. What do we, we change your opinion to here that under the parent's guide,
Starting point is 00:31:28 violent section, the entry says, just some slapstick fighting, but under profanity it says, four F words, at least 25 to 35 S words minimum, about 12 to 20 S words minimum. They lost count, they just stopped counting after several weeks. 12 to 20. They lost count. They just stopped counting after serving. Yeah. 12 to 20 asks words minimum, including
Starting point is 00:31:47 asshole ass white. So I was like a fun night and a steward asked a few sons of bitches. This does sound that does sound like more of steward's vague erotic show or just like then there's some ass words. That's what we said. A few words of this.
Starting point is 00:32:01 Riches and about six uses of tits. About six uses. About six uses. Not the lost me a little bit by the end that I was intrigued while as I was doing it. I'll watch this thing again. Okay, okay, okay, well, hold on. Does this top IMDB user review do anything for you. Quote, can you say underrated? Again. Yeah, so yeah, you're nay on taking care of business. I'm gonna give this one a big nay from me. I think I'm not gonna get involved.
Starting point is 00:32:37 I'm not gonna take this business while you take care of somebody else. And I'll be taking care of the business of watching this movie. Just cause Stuart wants to see if he can remember anything from before. Oh, basically it's an experiment to see how badly I've deadened my brain with drugs and alcohol. Yeah, time. I'm not a drug user, I don't drink much.
Starting point is 00:33:02 And I know that I watch the movie The Toy over and over again as a kid. And I remember I think two scenes from the movie. So, it's the challenge. Did I watch The Toy by choice? No. It dorses everything about the toy. No, I do not. It's the headline. And the only reason I watched it was because it was on, for some reason HBO played it repeatedly at the point.
Starting point is 00:33:22 Yeah, no, it's true. And I would stumble upon it sometimes and be like, I think this is supposed to be funny. Richard priors in it. Yeah. Why isn't it funny? It's retrofit and Jackie Gleason, right? Yeah. Okay. Final, voluge movie.
Starting point is 00:33:40 This is from 1992. And all voluges must come to an end eventually. 1992, an erotic thriller. The Jajonra we all associate most with the Dimplushi. Yeah. If this is K9, I will be freaking out. No, the title, a title I recognize, no, nothing else about it. Traces of red.
Starting point is 00:34:01 Traces of red. Synopsis. That's a solid erotic thriller title right there. Yeah, Traces of red. Traces of red. Synopsis says. That's a solid erotic thriller title right there. Traces of red. That is. It feels classy and foreign. Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:34:14 Mm-hmm. Not a lot of red. Just traces. Just traces of red. I'm edging you with this red. Out, out, out, damn spot. Okay. The synopsis goes like this. Jack sleeps with a waitress who's later murdered. Did Jack's usual lover do it? Palm Beach detectives, Jack and Steve investigate.
Starting point is 00:34:39 Wait, so is Jack the same Jack as the detective? I think that that's clear in the description. I think the I is one of these were like, yeah, he slept with the victim and then he asked to not clear. It's a classic hitchcock wrong wrong man thriller, right? I don't know. I don't know, Elliot. I know what you mean this would be.
Starting point is 00:35:01 And then you're like, would it help you to watch it if you knew that I wrote it? You know, well, you know that I wrote it? Damn. You know, well, you know, who wrote it? That's the first enticement here. How do you use this from again? What year's this from? 92. 92, okay.
Starting point is 00:35:13 How does it strike you to learn that this is the director Andy Wolk's only theatrical film, but he's done a lot of television, including two episodes of Arles. Whoa, whoa, whoa. two episodes of Arles. Oh, two episodes of Arles. We get a professional behind the camera. They liked him enough to ask him back over at Arles.
Starting point is 00:35:34 For that second episode of Arles. Not as successful as the first episode apparently, because then they stopped too. I don't know. He might be perfectly good director. I don't know why. Just saying that way. No, you're you're you're very you're very down. Yeah, we're should talking now.
Starting point is 00:35:53 Consider I'm looking him up now. He did also direct a movie later called Pizza My Heart. So. Oh, taking another little. Um, okay, well, how about this? What about the fact that the writer, Jim Pidik has a story by credit for Tooth Fairy, the movie where the rock is the Tooth Fairy,
Starting point is 00:36:14 but is better known as an actor, you may remember him as the straight man partner to Fred Willard's goofy dog show announcer in Best in Show. Oh yeah. That's right. That actor, Rook's faces of red, Goofy Dog Show announcer in Best in Show. Oh, yeah. That's right. Okay. Okay. And then, okay.
Starting point is 00:36:27 And then, okay. And then, okay. And then, okay. And then, okay. And then, okay. And then, okay. And then, okay. And then, okay.
Starting point is 00:36:35 And then, okay. And then, okay. And then, okay. And then, okay. And then, okay. And then, okay. And then, okay. And then, okay.
Starting point is 00:36:43 And then, okay. And then, okay. And then, okay. And then, okay. And then, okay. I mean, I found that intriguing. What about this intriguing fact? Perhaps the most judge-routing one of the episode. This movie also features an actor whose credited name is Edgar on Poe the fourth, who, according to the ever unreliable IMDB trivia, is a direct descendant of the famous American author and poet, and whose other credits include the film, Bikini Beach Race, starring Dana Plato. Oh, yes.
Starting point is 00:37:20 I don't, I'm gonna look this up. I don't believe I'd grow up with head children. So I don't know if it's possible to be a direct descendant of a grown pose. I don't know. I know. I'm like, yeah, no, no, no, no. No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, being basically gill from Simpsons or Jareth from Lapper. He's alternate like begging us and enticing us. Yeah. So all right. Well, it has a man in it who purports to be in the Senate of Edgar
Starting point is 00:37:57 on Poe, which is impossible. I have to believe to get a roll. He has no, he hasn't had no children. I have to believe to get a roll. He has no, he hasn't had no children. But we can't confirm he was the bikini beach race. I mean, if I get trust in about the egg-grablin' bo thing, I don't know if I can trust him up. Maybe it was the original egg-grablin' bo who was in bikini beach race. All right, well, other unreliable trivia to possibly entice you, how about this from IMDB?
Starting point is 00:38:24 Quote, the ties worn by James Belushi in this film all came from his own personal work. Well, now I need to watch it. Okay, now now you want me to now. I'm gonna pass that. All right. Wait, okay, well, this just one, two more pieces of entitement or a lot of people. Okay. I mean, you had me, James Policeman. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:38:50 James Policeman. I don't know. James Policeman. I don't know. James Policeman. I don't know. James Policeman. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:38:58 James Policeman. I don't know. James Policeman. I don't know. James Policeman. I don't know. James Policeman. I don't know. James Policeman. I don't know. James Policeman. the newtody is described as mild with the true two entries being as followed. One, a woman's corpse is seen lying in bed topless her bare breasts clearly visible and two.
Starting point is 00:39:10 Don't like that. I don't like that. Even even knowing that that living people are playing the corpses. I don't like it when the newtody in his movie is a dead body. Two, a man. Sorry, everybody. Sorry if that's close minded of me, but I'm not, I'm not attracted to the dead. I guess I won't gift you this return a living dead part three DVD. Well, yeah, although I attract, well, here's the thing. I'm not attracted to the dead, but like, that's not what doesn't matter to reanimated. Does El Vira count as dead or is she, is she not a real vampire? I don't. It's a good question. I think she might be a little of some kind. I mean, Elsa Lee and Chester as bright a Frankenstein. Anyway, Dan, Dan.
Starting point is 00:39:47 This is a road we want to go any further down. Probably not. Probably not. I want to ask. That was, that was the one I was trying to get by fast in order to get to the real. I'll read it. Okay. Yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:00 A man climbs on a woman who is lying on a bed and they kiss. She sucks on an orange slice while he unbuttons her top and he kisses her and fondles her over her bra. No nudity is visible during the scene. So it has not only no nudity, what the purient me as an adolescent, I assume, is trying to see, but also an orange slice. It has an orange slice though. A food I find disgusting.
Starting point is 00:40:24 Yeah. Told me by your name, right? Yeah. It A food I find disgusting. Yeah, told me by your name, right? Yeah, it's what's kept me from watching call me by your name is knowing that there seems to be a person in it. There is a loose fruit, yeah. Yeah. Well, lastly, how do you feel hearing this rave from I'm to be his top review?
Starting point is 00:40:37 Okay. The first five minutes and the last 10 minutes are good. Ha, ha, ha. Ha, ha, ha. Ha, ha, ha. So what's my final target on traces of red, a gay or a a story. Traces are red. Yeah, sure. Why not. I mean, I want to see what James blue she's ties look like. So can I just watch those parts, the part where he ties? Yeah, there's probably ties in the beginning and end. That's why the, that's the review.
Starting point is 00:41:10 Yeah, he's a tie-less in the middle of the movie. Subject is tylus. I repeat, tylus. Guys, so the real point of this game is so we can determine which movie we're going to watch next for the podcaster. Is that true? I mean, we already had an access movie right now. No, but that would that would have been a more clever thing. It would have made way more sense. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:31 Yeah. Well, but that's the point of the week for traces of red. That's the point of a fluff as many to not make any sense for the traces. Okay. Yeah. Mission accomplished. And thank you. Thank you for indulging me on a premise that I grew more and more enthusiastic about as I did it. To the point where I was like, I can't wait to spring this one on the guys. You did and texted us and was like, wait, do you see what I got cooked up for you this time?
Starting point is 00:42:01 Yeah, yeah. I could tell from his typing that his fingers were shaking with anticipation. Hey, if you like this kind of thing, why don't go over to maximumfund.org. That's our podcast network, maximum fund. There's a lot of other shows on the network you might enjoy. And, you know, if you like this kind of thing, that's the way we get support from you,

Leave a message on the public or just see a hotline of your choice.
Starting point is 00:42:54 Leave a review somewhere, probably iTunes, you know, TeleFriend. I just get the word out. I just get the word out. The top is the top, the third way we would like you to leave a review. Spray painted on a wall somewhere is probably at the bottom. You know, we're scratched into a school desk. Maybe that's at the bottom. And less you include like a QR code that takes them to our page.
Starting point is 00:43:15 You know how to spray paint your QR code. QR code. Well, good skills. Can you tell us with a congratulations? Maybe if you have like some sort of one of those stencils, I don't know, that's what they call me. Stensils. Yeah, yeah, what about Banksy?
Starting point is 00:43:31 I don't think stencils around with me. No thanks. Wow, Ali, it's previously unheard of hatred of stencils. Anyway, so we were signing off, but I was saying, Banksy, he's like, why is he defacing property? I mean, to be honest, if Banksy did spray paint my house, I would be like, Banksy, what are you doing this? Leave my house, please.
Starting point is 00:43:50 If you like this stuff for some reason, help us spread the word about the show. Thank you to Alex Smith. He's our producer. You can find him all over the web under the name Howell Dottie. If you put it into Google, it'll probably tell you how to spell it. But for now. It's an interesting experiment at the very least. Let's see if that's what happens.
Starting point is 00:44:11 For now, I've been Dan McCoy. I'm Stuart Wellington. I'm Elliot Kaelin. Can't wait to see you at Flop TV and in our next Flop House podcast episode. Thanks for listening. Bye. episode. Thanks for listening. Bye! Maximum Fun. A Worker-owned network of artist-owned shows.
