Let's say I'm in a state-of-the-art gym surrounded by powerful-looking machines. Do I head straight for the squat rack? I could, but this gym has options, like trainers, fitness pros, botters to back me up. That's crypto on Kraken, powerful crypto tools backed by 24-7 support and multi-layered

Starting point is 00:01:16 Welcome to Cannon Fodder, a behind-the-scenes look at the Glass Cannon Network. What is going on everybody? Welcome back to Cannon Fodder. It is Wednesday, September 18th, 2024, and I'm your old pal, Joe O'Brien. I'm Joe O'Brien. Hey, look who's back from two weeks off of the FOD. Dude, the FOD Nation's been missing you, man. That's two weeks of the year. The Juice Team, they've been missing you.
Starting point is 00:01:57 I don't think that's anyone's ass. No, they haven't been missing you at all. They loved the Blood of the Wild cast. That was super fun. Can you do that every week? I wish I could book that crew every week. That would be amazing. Well, no, we've had a couple great FODs, but we really have not gotten back to talking
Starting point is 00:02:14 about Gatewalkers in a while. So that's what we're going to do today. We're going to catch up on a few apps of Gatewalkers, a little bit of We Are Stupid, some big news, including a whole show drop that hasn't even been discussed yet that's going to be coming out next week. Very exciting news and exciting one shot for you guys to check out. And then, yeah, as usual, a little We Are Stupid and a little listener mail. We're going to get into it. How was your time away from the FOD?
Starting point is 00:02:39 I assume you were away from the FOD because you were just relaxing on a beach. Right. Yeah. That's the best part is like I was definitely not working on other stuff that I couldn't appear on the fog. I got to actually take time off. You definitely weren't slam sandwiched. Yeah. Yeah. No. It's just nonstop. Every time I think, man, finally I can come up for air like something else. This is good, man. It always sounds like I'm complaining. It's one
Starting point is 00:03:03 of those things where I feel like I'm insane because I keep telling myself like, I think I got a pretty easy week. Ah, ah, ah, ah. So it's like the insanity of doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. But no, things have been good. This is a busy week because I have to travel again for a top secret trip. Top secret.
Starting point is 00:03:22 Dude, this will be coming out on the FOD, what, two months from now? Dude, no, I think there's a chance where I'm going, I'll make like a social media video and do it live. No. Yeah. You know me, I'm crazy like that. But my original was going to be traveling on Monday and we obviously went to Boston last weekend and had just a fucking awesome time.
Starting point is 00:03:45 All I could think Monday was like, I am so glad I am not getting on a plane right now. But I have to do it. Would be tomorrow I got to get on a plane for a 20 hour trip. Super top secret, but we'll have more on that soon. Let's focus on what is in front of us and is actually happening that we can talk about. Ember. Ember continues tonight. Umbra.
Starting point is 00:04:10 Episode three. Umbra. Umbra. Continues tonight. Holy shit, do we have a great time with that. It was awesome having Andrew on last week to talk more foundry. We actually got some Andrew listener mail after the fact. I have to hit them up and see if I can't transmit this back to the
Starting point is 00:04:25 nation somehow. But a couple of good questions from the nation. That was a really fun FOD and the story continues. Two more chunk-tacular episodes of Ember are coming your way this Wednesday and next Wednesday as the Kickstarter looms on. It was funded in minutes. It is crushing it right now. Over 2,000 backers.
Starting point is 00:04:48 Awesome. Push closing in on 400 Gs. I mean, it's amazing. So please go and support our sponsor, Foundry VTT. It all helps all of us out. And I'll put a link in the description here if you wanna go check out that Kickstarter and maybe back it for yourself.
Starting point is 00:05:07 It's a really fun game. All right. Let's talk about the big news. A very sudden quick turnaround project has come up that's going to be a blast. Both you and I are involved and it's airing next week. Tell the people about it. We got a lot of good friends in this industry. We're making friends over the years and one of our good friends reached out.
Starting point is 00:05:32 Our buddies over at Beadle and Grimm's, Pandemonium Warehouse, Matt Lillard and Bill Reyor, they've got a Kickstarter for volume one of their faster Purple Worm Kill Kill book that they're releasing. They were like, we want to do something with Glass Cannon. Would you guys want to do a Faster Purple Worm? I was like, hell yeah. Next Monday night, I will be running one of the scenarios from the book. They sent me five different scenarios to choose. It's so cool because obviously you and I played that when they did the big from the book. They sent me five different scenarios to choose. It's so cool because
Starting point is 00:06:05 obviously you and I played that when they did the big show in LA. I've done it on different con shows in San Diego. They're doing it now at the Comedy Store every third Sunday of the month. I'm trying to get out there for one of those. It's become this thing now and they've got this whole book of scenarios so that you and your friends can run a faster purple worm kill kill. So I'm going to be running one of the scenarios of the book with you, Matthew Lillard, Ross and Sydney. I mean, what a great crew! What a great crew to kill.
Starting point is 00:06:36 What a great crew to kill. That's going to be great. Let me throw it up here. I didn't even think about this before, but they actually sent me the book cover. So I should be able to share it here. Let me see if I can bring it up here. Yeah, there we go. Look at that. That should work. Yeah, there it is. Look at that. A new Fairest of Purple Worm book. Everybody Dies, Volume 1. Great title. It's good stuff. So very excited for them and holy crap, am I excited to play D&D with Lillard and Ross Bryant.
Starting point is 00:07:10 I've never played with either D&D with either of them and I've obviously been friends with them for years. So it's great to get that chance tonight or next Monday night. It's going to be awesome. Yeah, it's fun because it was like the last day of Gen Con and we were at our most beat. Lillard comes rolling over to the booth and he's like, I want to do something with you guys. What do you want to do?
Starting point is 00:07:34 What day of the week is it? He's like, I don't know. We should do something together. Hopefully, this is the first thing in a string of other cool things that we're going to do. They're really great guys. I always get the feeling in this industry, we've been doing this for almost 10 years now that we don't always connect with the zeitgeist of actual play. Do you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:07:59 We're a little bit older, a little bit bodyer, just a little different. A little East Coaster. A little East Coaster. Immediately upon meeting the Beal and Grimm guys, I was like, these are our people. Even though they all live on the West Coast, these are guys that went to Circle in the Square Theater. They were in New York. They get it. They're older and they're just cooler. Now, they seem to approach, they like to play the game the way we like to play the game.
Starting point is 00:08:28 Yeah. And those things match up nicely. And so I, yeah, I'm very much, very much looking forward to that. What else, what else, what else? Oh, so some big streams this week, which I'm excited about. We are- You're in the streams? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:44 I am going to be playing two different video games this week. I continue playing some remnant 2 with McD that's actually today on our Twitch channel at 2 o'clock Eastern. If you're listening to this on Wednesday morning, you could catch that stream 2 o'clock Eastern McD and I are going to continue our crazy remnant 2 run and then on Friday happy hour 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern time. I'm very excited to say I'm going to be trying out Space Marine 2, Warhammer 40K's Space Marine 2 with Skid and Rob Kurkovich. So that should be amazing. Those two are so fired up for this game and I'm just going to be there for the ride.
Starting point is 00:09:20 So it should be really fun. Skid, Rob Kurkovich, and myself tune in Friday at 3 o'clock Eastern live on our Twitch channel. That's it for news off the top. Let's get right into the episodes, because we got three to cover, Troy. It's been three weeks. Episodes 49, 50, and 51, the GCP campaign two have gone by.
Starting point is 00:09:41 And I'm just going to hit some quick highlights here and keep it moving. Episode 49, She Who Walks Through Seasons was awesome. That concept was so incredibly cool. I had never seen anything like that in an adventure. A living goddess in a way of the world that you could climb onto and had a whole jungle on its back. Kaiju. the world that you could climb onto and had a whole jungle on its back. I mean, yeah. Yeah. A really cool concept. And that ended up being a really, really fun, uh, really fun encounter
Starting point is 00:10:12 and really fun whole situation. Speaking of that encounter, another highlight, we used multiple deviant abilities, which we do not do often. And we had multiple failures on the backlashes. Yeah. Kate failed. I failed. Uh, and it was fun to see that and how dangerous that is. Brother Amius was frightened three.
Starting point is 00:10:30 That was scary. I mean, that like, it certainly doesn't shut him down because he is primarily a healer and that wouldn't really affect the healing. But man, any kind of caster or damage dealer, caster damage dealer or melee damage dealer, if you are frightened three, that incapacitates you basically. So yeah, these backlashes are intense and tough. So that was definitely a highlight. Moving on to episode 50, Jinthiel manages to cure Illeli and bring her back.
Starting point is 00:11:00 She says she needs a few days to plan for the calculations. And this is where we have a really great role playing opportunity with the elves. We get to meet a lot of the elves. Party. We get to party and talk a little bit longer and we spend days doing this. And this brings up an interesting point, which I'll talk about a little bit more and we are stupid, but talk to me about your process, your thought process on the archetype that was brought up. Remember the Oatian astronomer or Oatian star seer, star gazer, star seer, something like that. Oatian sky sage.
Starting point is 00:11:34 Oh yeah, that's right. Oatian sky sage is an archetype that you could choose to take. Now, this dabbled in the free archetype realm Not free archetype realm you want to retrain your feats to use this. Yeah, it's meant to read you're meant to retrain it You know I said from the outset like back on session zero of this that we recorded remotely before episode one of GCP campaign to ever aired that I was against free archetype. I still stand by that, especially in a five PC campaign. Because although you can use free archetype to just add more flavor to your character, I believe it can also be used to-
Starting point is 00:12:16 It can be weaponized. It can be weaponized. I don't think this group is necessarily the group to do that, but I also don't want to police it. I think five players without me doing major modifications to do that, but I also don't want to police it. I think five players without me doing major modifications to the encounters is just, it wasn't worth it to me. I still stand by that. I know that's controversial, but it's more players than GMs complaining about it. I'm sure there are plenty of GMs that love free archetype, but I'd say the majority of people
Starting point is 00:12:41 who are for and against is a GM player schism. Anyways, as we started talking about it and we... Because I didn't really dig into it too much, I was just giving you guys the option and I was going to let you research and see if you want to retrain. As we're doing it live on air, I was like, you know what? The benefits of this, even at scale, are not game breaking. They're just kind of cool and it helps tie the players They're just kind of cool and it helps tie the players to the adventure more. So I was totally down with it. I'm glad that we got to see the process live. I was like, sure. There wasn't a whole lot of thought that went into it.
Starting point is 00:13:13 You know, you're not going to get more free after that. We did it live. Yeah, we did it live. But you get the chance to have this one little extra bonus and I think it was fun. And see, you guys seem way into it. And you know, we've recorded stuff now ahead of time where I'm starting to see it come and I think it was fun. You guys seem way into it. We've recorded stuff now ahead of time where I'm starting to see it come into play and it's cool.
Starting point is 00:13:30 It adds a lot of fun flavor and helps further tie you to the specific adventure path. I agree. I love it. I would have done the same exact thing. I felt that it was a way to tie the characters to the story deeper and and some way to kind of feel out How unique this adventure path is and how your characters would never have this ability They they could never take it in another game, right? Like it's so specific to this story So that that's an interesting thing and I'm glad that we were all able to Benefit from that and it just makes the characters feel deeper moving on to episode 51 highlights
Starting point is 00:14:03 I gotta say I'm to highlight the band in 51 at the top because that was the Hoagies Grinders subs discussion and it generated a lot of talk, which is really fun here at everybody's kind of different ways to say it. And I want to highlight one comment, which I like to highlight the comments that people make that make me laugh out loud. This one was based on Sydney's misunderstanding of what a pork roll is. This one from at greeting card boy on the YouTube comments. Why is it Jersey
Starting point is 00:14:32 Mike subs and not Jersey Mike's pork rolls? Just imagining that as a storefront Jersey Mike's pork rolls. It's always funny to like go do a show on the road and how like the bant from the previous episode is what everyone's talking about. Like so many people came up to me at the VIP and they're like, Grindr? What? I live in Massachusetts. Like not in the North Shore. Not in the North Shore.
Starting point is 00:14:57 Oh, that's so funny. All right. Well, in episode 50, a seed was planted and it flowered in episode 51. The seed that was planted was Zephyr's interest in a young man at this party and perhaps they spent a few days together. And then of course, the MVP and titular character of episode 51 is Valtrex. Valtrex, son of Valtor. Valtrex son of Valtor.
Starting point is 00:15:26 That was absolutely a highlight for me. Obviously, so many amazing jokes played off of that. There was a comment that I forgot to pull that said something along the lines of like, I've never seen chapstick applied so aggressively, which was a great line. And then one more I have to pull out because we made a ton of Valtryek's jokes and some of them were gut-bustingly hilarious. No one made this joke to my knowledge and this was in the comments. Good job on you BK Price who says, Zephyr should ask her physician if Valtryek's is
Starting point is 00:15:59 right for her. That is good. It's just good. It's good. It's good. That was really fun. And I think that there were comments about, I don't know, I don't know how to feel. Tell me how you feel about this. There were a few comments that said it felt like Kate had a potential actual moment there that was stepped on by
Starting point is 00:16:20 comedy, by us all making this joke. I feel like it was fine. I feel like the kind of drama of her moment, the decision, everything, it was all in there. She decided to go this way, but we did kind of make it a little silly. I don't know. What do you think looking back? I'm assuming you think it was perfect. Yeah, I've been like, it's funny.
Starting point is 00:16:44 I'm sure there's people that don't like, well, I know because I've been told there's people that don't like Hubert, don't like stuff like this. It's like, well, thanks for listening to the show every single week. This is the show. It's funny. If it's getting a laugh, that's all I care about. I don't think we stampeded over any moment there. I think it was funny. No, I think she was all right. I think she made the decision. It was interesting though. If we take it out of the comedy aspect of it for a second, it was an interesting concept.
Starting point is 00:17:13 Could your character, could you legitimately have your character just leave the campaign in that moment? That'd be awesome. I'd love to see somebody do that. I think it's cool. I think it would be a bold choice and extremely cool. How great would it be, especially if you were feeling the idea of, oh, I'd love to try a new class. I thought this would be a perfect story time to do it.
Starting point is 00:17:30 Then as a GM, you can, the end of Return of the Jedi, you can bring her back as part of a celebration or whatever. You see a celebration on Castravel and there she is. It would be so cool to have that option be real and that's why I love TTRPGs. Well, you did it with Lorc. You came to me like, I want him to leave. I feel like it's a failure for letting so-and-so die. Elaborous. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:00 I was trying to keep it spoiler free. Well, he didn't die. But yeah. Yeah. I was really hesitant at first and I was like, really hesitant at first. And I was like, okay. And it led to, you know, sort of the beginning of what became, what made Giant Slayer, that campaign so cool is to have these multiple storylines going on and to bring Lorc back
Starting point is 00:18:20 later and in episode 100, what we did with that and how much- I already had a second character that was building up and yeah. Yeah, I mean I think that had she decided to do it, yeah, maybe it's just an end credit scene where we see her pregnant on Castrovel with Valtrix's child. Or maybe it's like a back to the future type moment where it's like you think the show's over and it's like, Monty, you're going to go back with your kids. Maybe there's some problem where you guys would have to deal with that. Knowing me, I'd probably do the former.
Starting point is 00:18:53 The latter, just don't have her go off into the sunset, have that decision, have reverberations to the campaign. But it's interesting. But to me, it was just once skits at Valtrex, I was like, oh, this is a bit now. How do we make this as funny as possible? We were laughing so hard. But to me, I mean, it was just once skits at Valtryek, so I was like, oh, this is a bit now. Yeah. How do we make this as funny as possible? We were laughing so hard. We also got some good – we got a lot of praise on our tactical execution of the Gollum fight, which was really fun. We just like housed them, but it was also some good roles. Some good roles
Starting point is 00:19:20 supported that. Yeah. You know, that's in the campaign too. It says like if they skip this encounter, when they come back, they're there and they're berserk. So, it wasn't like- That's cool. I thought you were just doing it because you were like, well, I mean, you left them there, so now you got to fight them in a different way and I'm not going to let you work around them.
Starting point is 00:19:39 They're berserk. That's one of the reasons I wasn't like bummed about you guys skipping it because I was like I knew it was written for you to fight them again. I was like, this will be fun because now you're leveled up and you'll just stomp them. It'll be a fun little moment there. But yeah, that's all as written. That's cool.
Starting point is 00:19:56 I'm not going back to university to be your friend. I'm going so I can get Uber One for students. It saves you on Uber and Uber Eats. Save like only you can at tdinsurance.com slash ways to save. TD, ready for you. Alright, let's take it into the notes from Professor Eric with a little We Are Stupid. We certainly are. Episode 49, Professor Eric writes in with a long and detailed explanation of why he
Starting point is 00:21:44 believes. Professor Eric was in Boston, long and detailed explanation of why he believes – Professor Eric was in Boston, by the way. Oh, yeah. That's right. I'm waiting in the VIP line. He goes, remember, if you remember me, I was like, why do I know your face? He goes, it's Professor Eric. I'm like, Professor Eric, you son of a bitch.
Starting point is 00:21:59 You son of a bitch. I missed him. That's a shame. I didn't get to see him. He had no addition talking to him. For real. I just like to talk to the GM. He wrote in with a detailed explanation of what he believed skid is doing wrong with Buggles ignition. I'm not going to go into detail on it here because we will talk about it in an upcoming episode as skid works out making
Starting point is 00:22:21 this adjustment to how he was understanding how the abilities work. You'll hear all of that live on air. It might even be this week. Yeah, it has to do with damage and the way it scales and whatnot. We finally figured it out. We finally figured it out and we did some of that figuring it out work on air. So you'll hear it and I think it's in tomorrow night's episode. All right.
Starting point is 00:22:39 Also from episode 49, he says, you got the backlash stuff correct in the end on the deviant feats, but a bit by accident, just to confirm. You roll that we have to remember this, roll the backlash check first, but its results don't take effect until after the action. So you roll the check, do whatever the ability was, and then you apply the effects of the backlash. Rolling the backlash after versus before has no difference in when the effects are applied. However, rolling it first is obviously better for the players because it's information that a player can have as to what they do with their action.
Starting point is 00:23:18 They may want to move a certain way or do a certain thing if they know they're about to suffer a certain backlash. So remember that as players, it's more advantageous to roll it before. It's a tiny detail, but would help us to know if that backlash is coming. Maybe get yourself in a position to be ready for it or prepared for it. Okay. Moving on to episode 50, this was almost all role play. It's the elf party and so professor Eric wrote a nice long archetype breakdown of how we approach the whole situation in summary he liked the way that we talked it out oh he also mentioned that this is seemingly in every 2EAP so far what's that there is
Starting point is 00:24:01 one unique archetype that comes in every AP. It almost seems like it's a design thing where they say, let's make sure we get one in there. He generally typically approaches it as by the book, you need to retrain in order to take it. But he understood for story reasons what we did here. And he also agreed that the way that it gave you access to the divine spells, divine cantrips would in no way be game breaking and would definitely foster that sort of connection, you know, to the story. There are, I just want to lay out real quick, three levels for people that run across this in their home games, three levels of how you can approach this.
Starting point is 00:24:37 One, straight up by the book, you have to retrain your second level dedication feat or second level class feat or dedication feat in order to take this dedication That's option one option two is You get it for free. However, you don't continue to get a free feat when those levels come up For that archetype down the line That's more of a you get the bonuses at second level and then that's it for the remainder of the class. Or option three is the true free archetype,
Starting point is 00:25:09 which is you get it and then you also get, so you get two feats every even level, but one has to be for this archetype. That sounded like we went with option two, is what he said, and he's like, he thinks that's a good compromise. So there are a few different ways to look at it and I like the way, I like where we landed. He also mentioned the pre-reqs as
Starting point is 00:25:28 well. You could like characters that fit the pre-reqs take it the ones that don't not take it. But what you did was allowed me to take it because and I think this might be finalized in episode 51, I think, but that I was allowed to, I had to be trained in occultism. You and Zephyr weren't trained in cultultism, so you had to take the other one. Was it acrobatics or some shit? Astronomy. Astronomy. Yeah, astronomy and lore.
Starting point is 00:25:50 So you just said, take it for free, but you don't get free trained in occultism. You just don't, you know, you don't have that. And so, yeah, anyway, that's where we landed. And I think that's the end of it. Yeah, I like the way we did it. You guys seemed excited about it. And that's why I was like, you guys are excited about it. What are we doing here?
Starting point is 00:26:07 If your guys are into something, I should say yes more. Absolutely. All right, lastly, episode 51, Spellstrike. This was mentioned in the comments by several people. Professor Eric laid it down too. We had talked about this in a FOD a little bit back about an instance of damage, how that's, you know, the way it's worded in the rules and everything. He said, spell strike actually is by the book, two instances of damage.
Starting point is 00:26:32 A quote, the spell takes effect after the strike deals damage. This is from the book. If the strike has any other special effects, the GM determines whether they happen before or after the spell. Then unquote, the damage from whether they happen before or after the spell." The damage from the strike resolves first. That's the first instance of damage. Then the effects of the spell.
Starting point is 00:26:52 This means a spell strike can proc a weakness twice. That's what I was going to just ask. If you were doing a hydraulic push with a war hammer, there was two bludgeoning damage. Bludgeoning and bludgeoning. You could proc a weakness twice. It would also be reduced by a resistance twice. Yeah, that's what I was, yeah. This is different from things like twin takedown that explicitly combine two strikes for the
Starting point is 00:27:15 one for the purposes of immunities, weaknesses, and resistances. So most strikes, even strikes that have additional energy damage tied in are going to be one instance of damage But spell strike is clearly laid out that it's too so we got to remember that going forward that it would proc a weakness twice It would also be reduced twice by a resistance. So that's cool. Thank you professor Eric. Let's move on To the questions from the nash little listener male Little listener Mel All right, we got one here from Doc Mysterio in San Antonio, Texas, who says they are loving the actual plays of Ember. It looks amazing.
Starting point is 00:28:10 I couldn't agree more. As a GM, I would love to see what Andrew is seeing as he runs it. Any chance of seeing GM footage in the future? I know, not in this run, not as part of this. I asked Andrew about this while we were recording, and it seemed to me that there are, as it is in pre-alpha, there are things he's seeing and working with from a GM angle that are working for him
Starting point is 00:28:36 because he built it and knows it so well, but the UI might be a little bit confusing to the average person right now, and I don't think they're ready to show it. So I didn't think they didn't have the Game Master set up ready to show in this version. So that was my understanding of it. So unfortunately, I don't think you'll get a peek at that. But of course, as development continues, I'm sure you will see a lot of the details of
Starting point is 00:29:00 the behind the scenes. But I'm also very curious, Doc. I'm in the same position. I'm like, how did the codecs work, right? Like, how do you unlock those things? Are you typing those things out? Are they pre-written journal entries? Are you highlighting which path they took? And then it automatically is putting in what it says in the codex because he was doing that so quickly and the codex was filling so easily. I was just kind of curious how that plays out. It's also very possible it plays out differently now and is used differently right now than it
Starting point is 00:29:28 will be after, you know, in beta or after beta. So there is a time to learn with that all this. All right. And then Marty from Knoxville writes in, we actually pulled Marty's crit at the Nashville show and Marty wasn't there. Come on, Marty. Come on, Marty. He says, I've got a real behind the scenes question. This is very I've always wondered if somebody was going to ask this. It's it's very, very. So what I'm looking for insightful. I've got a real behind the scenes question. I've noticed of course that callbacks happen to earlier episodes and jokes. However, despite the open secret that you guys often record multiple sessions in a day, I've noticed that you tend to do a good job of not having minor jokes
Starting point is 00:30:18 or bits or bants carry over between episodes that'll be a week apart. It happens rarely like Kate's Luke Skywalker poster, which by the way, I noticed when it came up in the next episode, I'm like, in a regular recording, we would never remember that joke, but we had recorded right after, so we remembered that joke. His question is, is that intentional? And if so, how do you manage that? My groups will never let a joke die. Do you guys have rules about carrying on jokes or references between episodes? I've always wondered if somebody was going to notice, sometimes you can tell what two episodes are recorded together because there's a reference to a die roll or a joke that is so detailed. You would never
Starting point is 00:31:01 remember that if you actually had a week off between EPs. I don't know, I've been talking a lot. What do you think about this? Yeah, I mean, I'm very intentional with it. I think when I do a callback, I know the reason I'm doing it, if we're recording in the same day is because I know it's going to be funny and that's all. That's my litmus test for everything. Am I going to get a laugh? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:31:19 Then I'll do the callback. But yeah, we are pretty, it's something I've never really talked about. And like Matthew, for some reason, like really enjoys like letting the audience in on it. And I'm, I always, I used to just edit that out, but now we don't really edit out anything out of- Yeah. He asks, is it, are they edited out? They have been in the past, but- Yeah, in the past I would because also like- It doesn't happen much anymore.
Starting point is 00:31:42 Comedy's tricky, man. Like I see it all the time from years of experience. Like a joke, I know when a joke's dead and I know when people around me don't know that it's dead. And it's like, ah, come on. You just have to know it's something innate. You can be like, the joke's dead now. You missed it. You went too far.
Starting point is 00:32:03 And I mean, I'm guilty of doing it as well. It's a timing thing and a rhythm thing. So that's- It's not an exact science. It's not an exact science, but like- I've been trying to teach it. It's difficult. It's very difficult.
Starting point is 00:32:14 Cause you can only teach through example. There isn't like a rule for this, a hardened face rule for this. And my favorite is trying to teach it to my kids. Like, cause kids are famous for over hammering a joke or something that made you laugh or them laugh. They'll do it over and over again. And then I try to be like, it was really funny the first time you did it. Now it's not funny and you're ruined. You're ruining it. So like, you know, like you got to know like you get
Starting point is 00:32:40 your laugh and then let it go and let it let us remember how funny it was, you know, it is it's a tricky, it's a tree line because like, look, we can go back to Valtrix. Those jokes just kept happening and they kept coming and they were not getting old, you know what I mean? Like you could feel it was working. But sometimes I had a buddy who is guilty of this. It's like a personality quirk. And he is like, he knows about about it too but is unable to help himself. We've made fun of him in the past for being like do you always do the one joke too far? Like not and not like offensive like you then made it not funny. You know what I mean? Like it was funny, it was funny, it was funny and then it was ready to just end and you
Starting point is 00:33:20 we call it push it into unfunny. Yeah it happened a lot in Giant Slayer and I just edited it all out. I was a butcher with Giant Slayer. But with Gatewalkers, we leave a lot more in, but also it just happens less. There is no... So to answer your question directly, there is no policy. We don't talk about it. What I'll talk about with newer groups, like this would not be Gatewalkers. This would be, you know, if I'm doing a multi-week show, I think I probably
Starting point is 00:33:50 said it to Andrew actually, when we were doing Ember. It's like, cause at one point we did two in a row and I said to Andrew, I said, you know, just as a refresher, like it's been a week for the audience. You know, you're not coming back from a commercial break here. You're coming back from like, it's been a week for the audience. You know, you're not coming back from a commercial break here. You're coming back from like it's been an entire week. So bringing new energy, talking to them as if they haven't seen this or done this in a while, catching people up with the recap.
Starting point is 00:34:13 You know, those kind of things are important to do in between episodes. But with Gatewalkers, I mean, we never mentioned it anymore. Everybody's got to... It also really amazes me to see how well Kate or even Skid at times who seems like he wouldn't be on top of it, it just like says so quickly without even thinking about it, you know, is just like, well, you know, last week when we blah, blah, blah, instead of, you know, an hour ago, something that happened. It just, it comes out so easily. I think that that is just time and practice and doing it over and over. You think in episodic terms and you kind of are able to draw those lines, make those line breaks between, between the EPS. So yeah, no, there's no hard and fast rules, but I used to say it a lot in Giant Slayer. I used to be like, don't, don't carry the jokes over. And there was like another,
Starting point is 00:35:07 there was another like pet peeve of mine that, oh, I mean, just even just in references, I would say, say last week, that didn't just happen. Right. Right. Exactly. Um, I was adamant about keeping that the veil up. Um, and I think we did a good job. You know, we do a good job for the most part. I mean, I think from Marty's question, it's pretty obvious, you know, he's like, is this a policy? Because you guys seem to do a good job of it. So thank you, Marty. Appreciate it.
Starting point is 00:35:34 But yeah, no, it is it is not a planned thing. It just sort of, it is kind of planned, but it's not unspoken. Yeah, unspoken. That's the perfect way to put it. Well, it's gonna do it, buddy. That's the perfect way to put it. Well, it's going to do it, buddy. That about wraps her up. That's it. Hey, LA and Portland next month.
