Is this all because of the vent? Look, we have to have a... Hallway is tight. Asta and Ramius, you notice this like thick vines that are covering the area where the floor used to be. They start to animate and grab at the ankles of Zephyr and Barnes. Zephyr! What? Oh.

need your two cents on this. Our amazing sound engineer CJ got me a iced coffee before this episode. We ran out, got me an iced coffee. It's large, it's delicious. I felt lacking. I needed that. I need that. I mean ice coffee. It's large. It's delicious. I Was I felt lacking I needed that need that I need that little kick a caffeine kick I'm gonna have an iced coffee second half. It's that caffeine hit I have three cups of black in the morning, but that's by 630 of them finished my coffee. So I need that 1 30 p.m. He's made the level Kate also went out and got some new

Here's my dilemma. Kate also went out and got some Nooners. Nooners. Kate causing trouble. And I got this ice cold watermelon nooner, high noon that I really want to have, but I can't do it until I finish the coffee. But I don't want to guzzle the coffee. It's really good coffee. I want to enjoy it.

So what do I do? Look at you double fisting over there, but you have milk in yours. That's weird. It's a lot of mouth stuff going on and it's like not great, but you got to do what you got to do. Well, you're really just, wow. Just bad mouth stuff. Is that a mango high noon and a milky ice cream?

Why are you doing that to yourself? I did, and it was funny. It was worth it. It's a good bit. I'm going to put this back now. I would say don't do what I did. Learn from me. Finish the coffee first. Don't rush it. And then you get a treat. I feel like I'm gonna put this back now. Like the caffeine gets it really spinning in there and it makes you... I don't know if there's any spinning, but yes, caffeine will make it louder. Okay. I think you're thinking of vertigo with the crystals become dislodged. Is that what happens? The crystals in your brain, Sydney? No, your ear crystals. The magic crystals, Sydney?

Sydney, where do you think you are right now? No. No. This sounds crazy. No, I know. It sounds insane. It sounds insane. Oh, wait.

No, she's right. I know. She's right. It's just the way you said it. It sounds like some four humors fucked up body stuff, but you have crystals in your ears that become dislodged and that's why you get vertigo. It like throws your balance off because you balance through your eardrums, which is, your ears are crazy.

Yeah. So like tinnitus and stuff, it's super serious because it just makes you crazy. Normally they're embedded in a jelly-like membrane. Yeah, normally, but they'll become dislodged. You know when you're high up and you look down and you get that vertigo feeling? I read once that the vertigo isn't the dizziness so much as the desire to want to fall.

What? The jump. The jump, yeah, like causes that, like this orientation is a part of you. You're just like, fuck it, let's go. Let's go. I got crystals in my ears, I'll live forever. That's nonsense. Get these crystals out of my ears, I'll live forever. That's not sense.

Well, this is why I have them in my ears, I'll live forever, is that what you said? This is why I think that I have a fear of heights. Yeah. You'd be like, oh, do you really have it or not? Because I think it's a thing, not because I'm like, oh, I'm afraid, but because I have an actual physical reaction.

Yeah, it's usually for most people. When I see that kind of stuff and I get close to that kind of stuff, my stomach drops out as if I'm already falling. And I like, and I immediately just like pull away. If I see somebody else looking over an edge, like if I'm on a hike and somebody like walks up a little bit too close,

I'll feel like I'm falling. Like I get the same feeling from a roller coaster. It's been like three weeks. He needs to get over whatever he has going on. Yeah. Well, I do think there's the character aspect of it, which is like, he's built upon this shame of cowardice that has driven him at times to do things he wouldn't have done otherwise, like jumping out to climb down and heal Zephyr on that thing back at the druids hideout thing. But he, but mechanically, you know, I'm looking at the same, I'm just like, this is insane.

Like to knowingly go out and know that anything from a zero to a five would mean permanent death. That was just a natural one. No, it's a fumble. It's DC five, isn't it? Right, but he doesn't have any modifier. I don't know what he set the DC as. I assume he set it as 15,

which is like a pretty moderate DC. Well, with the vines and stuff, I think it's the equivalent of like climbing with a rope. Okay. Well, if it was only a natural one, I would totally do it. But I thought it was one to five. But also this makes sense character wise too, because of the scene that well, we know about as players, but not our characters with the cliff. Yeah. And your brother, like it's literally heights. Like it's, you know, he is off the cliff's edge. He's terrified. He's like, you know, I can't do that anymore. Like if somebody's hurt, he will go help them.

But as long as we can maintain our own control not going up there, then why go up there? Why risk it? But yes, if somebody was hurt up there, he would definitely give it a shot. Well then, do you like caffeine? I like small, I like a Diet Coke. Is that like a little dose of caffeine?

That's caffeine. Yeah. So I like a little, is there as much caffeine in a cup of coffee as there is in a can of Diet Coke? Or is it like, how much more is there in a cup of coffee? Coffee versus Diet Coke caffeine content. Caffeine quantity or whatever. Pretty sure it has good caffeine.

CJ comes in and says one and a half, I'm hearing one and a half times. 12 ounce can of Diet Coke contains 46 milligrams of caffeine, which is three to four times less than 140 milligrams or more found in 12. Yeah, so coffee has more per ounce. Yeah, like a hundred milligrams more. So that caffeine hits. So that caffeine hits. So yeah, I do like it, but I don't drink it a lot.

But I'll typically drink it literally, the only time I drink Diet Coke is before our shows. Yeah. Like on show day. I'm always exhausted and I always want like a little bump right before we go on stage and I have a Diet Coke. Just a little bump. And you also have some Diet Coke.

I like a Diet Coke with a pizza. Oh yeah. Yes. Not all the time. Not all the time. Love it. What about a... I like a Diet Coke with Chinese pizza. Oh yeah. Not all the time, not all the time. Love it. What about a? I like a Diet Coke with Chinese food,

which I think has been, I've been trained from the New York Chinese takeout places that would just throw in a can of Coke. Like they throw in a can of Diet Coke. When you order over $10, it's like, ah, here's a free soda. What soda do you guys get when you go to the movie theater? Like, do you get a soda at the movies?

Oh no, I get a tall boy of beer now because they sell beer and I'm like, are you kidding me? Let's do this. I've been in the movies in a while. I'll usually do Diet Coke or Coke Zero. I like when they have Coke Zero. I took the boys to see Inside Out 2 a few weeks ago. How was that? It's sad. It's very sad. I'm like, this is all over their head and it's just making me sad. But I have my giant Bud Light. I was going to say, was it the tall boy that made you sad?

Or the movie? That didn't help. Uh. Uh. Yeah. I saw twisters. Skid, you're a, uh. Shut up.

You're a diet coke in the morning type of guy, I've seen. Yeah, I usually, I'll drink three a day. Three a day? Generally, yeah. For the caffeine? Yeah, and I I'll drink three a day. Three a day? Generally, yeah. For the caffeine? Yeah, and I just like it. I like the ritual of it more than anything. I'll usually, and it will normally won't be in the morning

ordinarily like I'll get up, I'll like I'll have breakfast and then in the early afternoon, I'll walk down to the bodega or whatever by my house, by my three things. Guys say, hey, what's up, boss? Here you go. It's like, why don't you get the big bottles sometimes? It'll save you money.

And it's just like, why don't you shut the fuck up? I didn't come in here because I wanted to have a conversation. Pop, pop, pop, singing piece of shit. And then I take the Diet Coke, I go home. And then I have one, and then I kind of space it out over the rest of the afternoon. I remember when we used to play Pathfinder on like Sunday

mornings at Joe's apartment, you'd roll over with your three bottles and you'd put them in the fridge to dole out throughout the session. Yeah, throughout the session. Yep. Yep. So worried about my health. I've been doing this for years.

We're the coffee contention. The ladies and I are the coffee crew. Yeah, I need it. We rarely drink it together. Sometimes when we're on tour, I'll see you guys. Well, you always make fun of us. Yeah. I see you guys at a coffee shop. You ignore us. I wave through the window and go to my own.

There was one time. I care what city we flew into, but Troy, me, and the two of you were on a flight. Yeah. And Troy, we were all in our own seats. We got off the flight, Troy gets off first, he texts, bathroom and iced coffee, question mark? Oh yeah.

And then we're like, everyone's like, sure, yep, okay, great. And then we went to the bathroom, and by the time we got to the coffee place, Troy had already gotten, I got in the lift and left. Yeah. After inviting us to come along. Yeah, it was a crazy move, even by Troy's standards. We were like, where are you?

And you're like, I got my iced coffee, I'm in a lift to the hotel. We were like, what? You didn't realize that Tex had a timer attached to it? Bathroom and coffee, you guys are like, yeah. It took too long. We actually did arrive at the hotel and we're like, it's the exact same time. It's the exact same time. We pulled up behind you. Can you pinpoint a, I know there's going to be other factors, but generally speaking,

over the years, can you pinpoint a kind of weak-ish in the year when you transition from iced coffee to hot coffee? Interesting. I do iced coffee all year round. Iced coffee all year round. Yeah. But I know you like a pumpkin spice latte in October. Is that iced?

It depends. I've cut back on those a lot. Okay. I do pumpkin spice lattes or anything. I do like hot coffee all year round with my little coffee machine at home. So in the mornings in the summer, you drink hot coffee? Yeah. And then I'll have an iced one as my third one.

I have three coffees at home and I put out little Nespresso pods so I know which one I'm on and how many I've had. That's fun. Very regulated. That's fun. Very regulated. It's fun and totally normal. Oh. Oh. Can I talk about something that happened to me on the way here?

Yeah. Is it coffee related? It's not, but this reminded me of it. Right, does it pick you up like caffeine does? It did, it gave me a jolt. All right, well let's go. I also like that the pen is back. I like the pen.

It's a permanent thing. I like the pen. Yeah, I like it. This isn't going anywhere. I feel like it's a pen. Is it here to stay? Yeah, pen's here to stay. It's a little cape. On the way to the studio today, I'm walking, listening to my podcast like I normally do, and I saw a squirrel run in front of me and run up a little stairway. And then I was just like, oh, look, these seem to be in a hurry. And then I kept walking. And then he started running back the same direction and he ran into my foot. He slammed into my foot like really

hard. A squirrel. A squirrel. You might have rabies now. Well no, I was scared. I was like, ah! And I yelled and then he got scared and so he did that thing that rodents of a certain size do where they just like pop straight up in the air. Aww.

It was just like, oh no, no, I'm sorry, I'm sorry. And I'm apologizing to him like as he's running away and he's like running out into the, and I'm like, no, where are you going? Splat. And I'm just like yelling at him in English, and like trying to calm him down, you know. And he did run off, and I was just like, man, I hope he's okay. Yeah.

My coffee pods reminded you of that. Squirrel? Yeah. I figured he was hopped up on something. Oh. With the New York City squirrel, they're always on the go. reminded you of that squirrel. Yeah. I figured he was hopped up on something. Oh. The New York City squirrel. They're always on the go.

Just cut out a donkey. That was a sober squirrel. But no, it made me think of, because Alicia Marie, her best friend, had a protracted war with a squirrel out in LA. And it made me think of that too. I was wondering if it was the same squirrel. Who would fight against a squirrel?

No. I stayed in a farmhouse though once where they lived, they called them roof rats and they lived in the roof and you heard them nonstop. It was crazy sounding. Like as soon as I moved out into the country and I heard the squirrels on my walls, I was like, Michael, we need to get a fucking BB gun. We need shotguns. Squirrels.

And he's like, who are you? No. They're real cute till they're on your walls. Yeah. You know, we put the squirrels in New York City. They didn't exist naturally. Your family? Nope.

When they did, my mom and I. The Emanuel's. Put the squirrels in New York City. It was the Emanuel's. When the devil. My mom and I. The Emanuel. Put the squirrels in New York City. It was the Emanuel. When it was New Amsterdam, the uh. Like the new tree in New Orleans. I don't remember.

I listened to a podcast about it, but they didn't exist. They brought them over from Europe and they introduced them to the city and they weren't doing well because it was a city environment. And then they were like, we gotta make it better for these squirrels. So they planted trees and they made all these parks and they like helped these squirrels.

And now the squirrel population has boomed. And they were like, ah, we did too much for the squirrels. And now they just, they took over and now they live here. Do you know about the nutria? I know about the nutria. Wait, no. Everyone's surprised to learn about the nutria for the first time. I'm bastardizing this a little bit, but there was someone that said, oh, I'll make a cheap alternative to mink.

Mink coats and try and create this hybrid animal that was going to create a cheaper type of fur that was similar to mink. Something went wrong and they just created these horrible rodents. These giant rats. Giant, greasy rats. They bred so rapidly that they overran like New Orleans, they're called nutria. And so they had to put them off like on this like.

They look like beavers. Yeah, they're like beaver rats. And now they have police that go out at night and just shoot nutria because they like. This is my introduction. My introduction to nutria was watching. Dave Attell. Dave Attell.

He had a show on Comedy Central late night. Insomnia. Insomnia. And he would go out and he would spend all night in a city, like until dawn. And he would just like go shooting around like what people do or what are the after hours things or activities. And in New Orleans, he was on a boat with cops. The Nutria Patrol.

Yeah. Like these like rivulet things where they run water around the city and they were just in these boats just, you know, just shooting with rifles, Nutri-O. God. These big spotlights on these huge rats are... They do look crazy because they, the face of a beaver, but then the, like, the feet of a platypus and then the body and tail of a giant rat. They look wild. Can't believe I've never heard about these guys.

Oh my God. Their front teeth are orange. Yeah. Their front teeth are huge. People don't like them. They are not unlike a Heracostphinx, which you guys started to fight last week and will continue to fight right after this break. Nooners! What's going on, Nesh? I always think of that when I think of tower fights. Didn't that woman cast that famous- Phantasmal kill? No, the Baleful Polymorph. Oh. Yes, turned somebody into a rat. It was Matthew's character. Turned Matthew's character into like a rat.

When I wasn't there. When he wasn't there. Permanently. Into a nutria. Into a nutria. Do you remember how we got out of that? I don't remember. I found a journal article that talked

about the vocal cords of rats and that they could mimic human sound. Oh my God. So you let me, Oh, that's right. You let me roll to see if I could approximate the sound of the like the, of the whatever verbal components I needed for the spell.

Cause I could do the somatic. You rolled that I could do the somatic. And I rolled like a natural 20. To remove curse or something? To remove curse or something. Oh my God. It's a little mug. Curse, curse, curse, curse, curse, To remove curse or something. It's a little mouth.

Well, let's see if this fight goes as well. You guys cleared out the first level, fought this dinosaur insect, cleared out the second level, fought these assassin vines that tried to grab you, never got to constrict once, never got to reposition and drop you 35 feet to the floor. No fun for old Troy. But you know what? I think we're going to have some fun here because as you came to the top level, you realized you had to climb a vine and Barnes is like, I got this.

Mirror is up there and there's a sphinx, sphinx-like creature waiting for you. It goes to attack, but you get the jump. You go back down and all of you start to scramble. It flies down, shrieks, deafens a few of you, some of you for a short amount of time, some of you longer, stunning you as well, Barnes. We've gone through a round of combat. Top of round two, it's Brother Ramius's turn.

This creature is flying there in the middle of all of this. What do you do? I presume that's incorrect, if memory serves. I had delayed until after Barnes. Oh, that's right. So Barnes goes, you move in the initiative order. Your turn was weird. You like readied and then delayed, then moved.

It's a bunch of weird, lame shit. It was a real annoying turn. Well, I couldn't see the enemy. I couldn't climb up there. Couldn't. Okay. Barnes is stunned, so we're gonna get the two actions. Yes. First action, swap action.

Ooh, little swap. Oh, you're gonna have to do his little swapper. Swanky swap. To get the chakram in hand. It's full count. He already exploited vulnerability last episode, that's still in effect. Okay.

Now you can tell that like the foliage on this thing's back is thinner and you can see the head way, way off the distance just sort of crowned with a knot of trees. You don't see any water or anything, but there is like a glimmer up there. So maybe it is like light glistening off water. It's barely visible

though through a protective ring of glacial ice it's like on the higher ends of its body it's all ice caps almost and then jungle throughout and then this ring of trees with glimmering and she who walks through seasons, starts to pick up its pace and approach. It stops about 20 feet short of the tower and opens up a whale-like mouth made of tree roots and moss just like, gargantuan mouth. And at this cue, birds just like explode from its body rush to the top of the tower and start grabbing all of the fruit, grabbing the fruit, flying it back to the mouth

and just like, birds and all these flying creatures that you've never seen before, bringing all of the fruit into the mouth, plucking the offerings, and you realize this must be your chance. It's 20 feet away, and its head is hundreds of feet away. What do you do?
