This week on the Glass Cannon Podcast.
Grant's gonna pee himself.
After bumbling their way into the forge.
And for the first time in 160 plus episodes,
you didn't check to see if the door was locked.
The heroes must tangle with an enemy they've never faced before.
Run away!
No, I'm not thinking that.
Matthew's thinking that.
Matthew's ready.
Matthew, come back! Matthew!
A fire giant.
Is everybody else staying outside
just out of curiosity
I'm coming in
Asking for a friend
But it's not going down
without a fight
Fire giant grabs
a piece of equipment
and just
You can see it
the scar's getting
red hot in his hands
and he just
And who knows
what else
lies in wait
Baron's going to cast see Invisibility on himself.
The adventure continues.
Oh my god.
Oh my god.
Now. Greetings, cherished listeners, and welcome to episode 168 of the Glass Cannon Podcast.
I've got a lot of stuff to talk about uh this week
we do we've got our live show in los angeles uh california on october 7th at the bootleg theater
tickets are still available but are going very fast so please pick one up if you plan to come
i've got a brand new episode of raiders of the Lost Continents this week for all our Patreon subscribers, the $5 tier and up.
And yeah, we've got a lot going on right now.
It's a lot to keep track of.
But remember that we are going to start twitching the entire Pathfinder playtest adventure Doomsday Dawn later this month live on Twitch.
And that should be really fun or a disaster but either way it should be interesting so please stay tuned uh to our
social media we will be announcing all the details on that soon enough but let's get right into this
episode 168 a tale of Frost and Flame.
Grant, you have an iced coffee and some sort of orange drank.
Mm-hmm.
Are we opening the show again on what I drank?
Yeah.
Well, the reason is I didn't realize how much I wanted an iced coffee until I saw yours and now it's too late do you want my iced coffee for five bottle caps i'll do that trade right
now i don't drink after other people yeah you of all people should know that yeah you know if we
had a producer you could just send them to go get right be like um hey tommy want to grab me a nice coffee. Light on the milk, one sugar. My name's Jim.
Sorry.
I miss Tommy.
And then Jim would be like, you motherfucker, I'm your producer, not your intern.
Get your own fucking coffee.
We need an intern and a producer.
We need a staff.
And if the intern brings it back, that's when you just immediately pour it on the floor and say, clean that up.
Do it again. I said one sugar.
There was one sugar in it.
Slap him in the face.
Never correct me in front of the staff.
This place is big enough that we really do need a staff here.
We need.
Just to justify our rent.
Just to justify our rent.
Can we have them chip in for the rent?
How does that work with staff?
I'm not familiar with hiring staff
I did have a new
I got a new drop
I fucked up the levels
But I got a new drop to demonstrate how large the space is
Look how loud I have to yell
I have to stand on one end
Like I say hey like i can yell like hey yeah the new
uh sound dampening really makes a difference we're able to sit downstairs now this is the
most comfortable we've ever been in three and a half years of playing this game by far by far
you know what we should do what you could just to go back to that gary guy guy gags thing that
skid was telling us about you should go you should gm from the bathroom i really could run a wire and then uh run a long
wire and then either tommy or jim could move the pond down here jim can you jim can you move me 10
feet forward there's an obstacle there all right i'm coming down i fully expected the map to be with you.
We have to go into the bathroom to move our pawns.
Right.
Seems like very inconvenient.
We have to knock every time.
But this is nice.
We do have the AC on, but that just has to happen.
Otherwise, we'd just be soaked.
I don't think it's too bad.
Just makes a little extra work for Grant, which is fine with the rest of us.
You son of a...
Not a problem for me at all.
I'm just going to enjoy this iced coffee.
It's delicious.
What would the staff do here?
I picture desks everywhere, but what would they be doing at the desk?
Well, there's nothing for them to do right now.
Just looking at pictures.
They'd look up spell durations, I would imagine.
Casting times.
Yeah, that would be actually pretty cool.
That would be good, yeah.
We did talk about having someone to just be like a rules person right to just like to just keep us
on point like let's go to fiona and the rules on the on the rules desk yeah on yeah let's check
the just check with the rules desk like in part pardon uh pardon the interruption that guy at the
end it's like actually you got this wrong is that tony yeah we need that guy who was the guy in the
world cup the doctor who oh that doctor guy but he was the guy in the World Cup? The doctor?
Oh, that doctor guy.
But he was like a PhD in English Lit or something,
but he also just really liked football rules.
Yeah.
They shouldn't have called that guy a doctor all the time.
I mean, he was a doctor.
He just wasn't a doctor of soccer. Unless you're a medical doctor,
and if you're doing something else
that doesn't have anything to do with your doctorate,
don't call yourself a doctor.
I didn't know it was rude.
I didn't know until I was in my 20s it was rude to call someone Mr. or Mrs. if they yourself a doctorate. I didn't know it was rude. I didn't know until I was in my 20s
it was rude to call someone
Mr. or Mrs.
if they have a doctorate.
It's considered rude.
Did you know that?
I think you just,
you eschew that term
when someone has attained
that level of education.
It replaces the Mr. or Mrs.
I didn't know that.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I mean, if they want it that way,
like.
I mean, that makes sense.
If I was a doctor,
I would not want to be called
Mr. LaValle.
Yeah, but if you have somebody
who's like a,
has a doctorate in philosophy and you meet them at a party and you have no idea they're a doctor
somebody said you know mr whatever it's not really like that was really rude no i think
they would correct you i think they would correct you they'd actually actually it's dr smith yeah
that is really rude with phds this is something i just learned when i started teaching at a
university is that if you are if you have a phd and you and you're teaching and you ask me to call you doctor it actually people will think you're trying to like prove something yeah
because you because if you're teaching you'd rather be professor and most full professors
i know would rather be known by their first name yeah yeah or what they published you would just go
we would list all of your no that's that's what's important class i would be like history of roman
literature uh no no no I'm just saying.
I'm saying.
If you're trying to read for.
Unwieldy.
I'm saying if you're trying to.
What are you.
If you're trying to prove something.
It's like, well, look at my work.
That's what matters to us.
Joe, you can have seven doctorates.
I would never call you Dr. O'Brien.
Well, I would never have seven doctorates.
I mean, you have to be really smart to do all that.
You also have to have a lot of time on your hands.
I just finished my bachelor degree, so I would like to be called Bachelor.
Bachelor Mar.
Bachelor Mar.
If you all wouldn't mind calling me Bachelor Skid Mar.
Bachelor Mar.
Speaking of publishing, though, I think our staff should actually, you You know we need a lot of blog content So I think they should be working on that
But I think that it should only be released
As a community newspaper
Available within six blocks of the office
With the glass canning as well
Yeah the glass cases
We would never have a future in Jersey City
Nope
We could get an intern to hand them out at the subway
Yeah
That's the intern's job.
Better than word of mouth,
yeah.
It would be
an Indian food restaurant menu
and then our gazette
right next to each other.
I feel like
we're not tapping
the potential
for just enraging people
into liking the show.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That's what happens.
Here's paperwork for you.
GCP today.
Like, here's some garbage.
Well, that's the old Mitch Hedberg line.
Here, you throw this out.
You throw this out.
Well, we could get an intern
maybe that knows something about sales tax
so that we don't go to prison.
That would be good.
That is actually smart.
Or that knows anything about running a business.
That would be nice.
We do have some board spots available
for anyone with business sense. Anyone who just has a bachelor's in business. We do have some board spots available For anyone
Anyone who just has a bachelor's in business
Unfortunately
My bachelor's degree
I can't remember what it is
It's not that
Housekeeping
It's hospitality
I have a bachelor's in hospitality
Hotel management
With a focus on baseboards.
Anyway.
Well, you guys, last week was one of those transition eps.
You met.
There was a big rise in the dramatic action from the death of Lork to the introduction of Four Bears to this otherworldly visit to the Boneyard.
And then you just took four bears right to the middle of a temple
and was like, just kill these guys.
Trust us.
And he did.
Let him loose.
It was a pretty brutal fight there against Debelos and those two temple servitors
who I could not get that entangling wrapping off on Baron,
and I wanted to so bad.
That would have been brutal.
The good news is I now have a ring of protection plus three from that fight.
So now your CMD is 37.
Well learned.
Well learned.
And then so last week was like, we need to take a step back.
And, you know, you went to the cathedral and talked a little bit more,
trying to meet this guy, trying to get a handle on who he is.
And then it was like, okay, where do we go next?
Because you've caused a disruption to this camp, but they have not disbanded yet.
What's it going to take?
Well, there's a lot of areas still, I'd say over half a dozen, that you have not explored yet.
Or you've just scratched the surface of.
Like, I think we know what's going on in that building, but we're not sure.
And this is one of those buildings where you're like,
I'm pretty sure this is some sort of forge,
but I don't see any
forging equipment
other than these strange, jagged things
coming out of the ice.
So you sneak up there, and you see this building,
rectangular shape, with these
two
long planks coming out.
You see, I've redrawn the map on Armando map here
just because it looks better.
Oh, that's what that is.
Yes, there it is.
And you guys came in from the north.
I mean, I'm saying the north just by this map, but...
North is always up.
North is right.
Yeah, it's always Troy's perspective of the map
at that moment.
Selfish bastard.
I do do the honor of, like, when I say, to the right, I'll use my left hand when talking to you.
Because I used to teach martial arts classes, and you'd have to do that.
You did?
Yeah, you'd have to say, all right.
You got a mirror.
Everybody step back with your left foot, and I'd step back with my right.
We have to have a Patreon tier that is you fighting my father-in-law.
Because he would
kick your ass.
Grant's father-in-law
used to do like stunt work
in Hong Kong
like martial arts films.
He taught Pakme Kung Fu.
I'm pretty sure
Troy could take him.
I want to see that fight.
I was a year away
from testing for my black belt
but I'm assuming
he is a professional.
Yes.
Still training.
Still training.
He's in great shape.
Oh, I want to see that fight so bad. Mr thought you're y'all versus troy i thought you
were gonna say i would teach a group of listeners right no no no it's all about it'd be so great
like on twitch you know give troy one of those the soft helmets and everything and then have him
just beat the living shit out of troy i think he's just looking around like, where am I? Like another hit to the head. Why?
Why do people pay for this?
Fight!
Round two.
At the end of it, it's just my father-in-law sitting on Troy's back, forcing him to watch Jurassic Park.
You watch.
Beaten into submission.
Why?
Through one eye. Did you ever give him permission to harry your daughter?
I need to know before you kill me.
Oh, man.
I'd love to see that.
Well, I don't remember what the hell we were talking about,
but you guys got here,
and for the first time in 160-plus episodes,
you didn't check to see if the door was locked.
You went straight to stealth.
Now, I'm always hoping you're just going to go straight to stealth,
even though 90% of these doors are unlocked.
I mean, stealth is attempting to slowly, quietly open the door,
at which point you would find out if it was locked.
Sure, but if you do perception first,
you can find that out without failing on your stealth check.
How do you do perception on a door that's locked from the inside?
You have to touch it and move it
as quietly as possible. I guess, but there
has to be a perception check in. Also, I always
kind of assume that these doors just have like
brass doorknobs.
They probably don't. There's probably some other system
they use in Skier Guard.
I always assumed it's like on an airplane
where it just says occupied or
locked or unlocked.
Green for open, red for locked.
It's a green silhouette of a fire giant.
If you had rolled the perception check, you would have seen the red fire giant.
Poop it.
Shit and fire.
Occupado.
But you go to try and open this and it's barred from the inside.
And that makes some noise that the people on the other side of the door hear.
Tell me in non-movement standard action terms, the moment Baron tries to open that and
figures out that it's locked, just tell me
what's
going through your head, like what
you think you're about to do.
Not what you're going to do, but like
But like what you're going to do.
Yeah, what does this, how does that change
what you're planning on doing?
Run away!
No, I'm not thinking that.
Matthew's thinking that.
Matthew's running. Matthew, come back! Matthew!
I mean, if it appears
to be something that could be broken through,
I would consider just knocking the door down.
But I would also
hold him a moment, you know, to see if
there was an... I don't think we
know that we've alerted them.
No, I think he rolled like a 25 or something on the stealth.
It was a pretty good stealth.
Yeah.
So you would think he checked it quietly.
And Four Bears doesn't really know these guys,
so Baron might be able to pick locks for all he knows.
So he's just waiting for a heartbeat.
Yeah, so non-metagaming-wise, what do you think you would do, Grant?
Well, I would immediately regret not casting the spell silence as opposed to using oil of silence,
because the spell silence would have everything within a radius around my gun silent,
which would be a pain in the butt for forebears and everyone else to try to cast spells with somatic components.
Still boggles my mind, by the way, that with everything else you can do, you can now cast spells.
Yeah.
Yeah, that's pretty good.
High-level play, man.
I have five doctorates in
so mr yo i think baron might uh baron might begin to consider uh doing blast lock on it so we can
open the door before it opens on us the problem is no lock is oh i see i see i see yeah so baron
baron would kind of look in fear he would not be happy
about this already scared we've been avoiding this area because it's a fire giant we haven't
fought one yet they're scary they're tough yeah and lork i'm sure regaled you with tales of how
badass these are fire giant wiped out his whole crew yeah um pembroke what you're in the back
there you're directly i think you're directly behind Baron
Yeah, well my intention was to cast communal protection from evil
Right before we went in
So you're just kind of like getting that ready
I'm preparing that to like reach out and touch everyone
When that happens
When trouble strikes
Right
Feyraza, you're there as well.
I think Feyraza
is looking,
would look to see,
like,
are there places
we could hide
in plain sight?
I think,
didn't Baron have
a spider climb on him?
No.
No.
Fly from the spell
forebears did on us.
We flew down here.
But that's probably gone by,
that's probably over by now,
right?
Yeah,
it was just a few minutes.
Yeah, yeah.
It was 10 minutes.
By the time he got here.
She doesn't have a lot to help conceal us so we are in a we're in a fog cloud right now so
that's true yeah you are in that fog probably they'll think it's just noisy fog i mean the
other thing that cloud last a while i would ask no that's cool they'll like open the door and
it's just like oh it's just a wisp of cloud and then that's for then we can go in 100 minutes
100 minutes well the other thing that four bears could do in this moment, like, realizes that Baron can't do anything to the lock, that it's barred from the inside.
There's, you know, then he, at that point, he would know there's no way to break through.
I mean, he could just hammer on the door and pretend to be a giant.
I do have warp wood prepared.
How big is the fog cloud, and can you draw it on the map, Joe?
Do you have a 20-foot radius?
20-foot radius.
We could jump off the dock right now and try to go to the other door.
That's true.
I would put it like the edge should be at the door, I would imagine.
Yeah.
Oh, the edge at the door.
Yeah, like the edge of the circle.
So the center of the radius would be 20 feet behind us.
Oh, you're doing
the traditional Pathfinder
20-foot radius.
This guy does not mess around.
It's very nice, Joe.
It's nice work.
And I'm sure it's at least
85% accurate.
No!
Something along those lines.
Okay.
Yeah, I think upon hearing it
Jump out like that
That we realize it's barred
I think we all might take a five foot step back
Right right yeah I could see that happening
I would look at him as well
Everybody roll a perception check
Ooh
Natty 20
29
24 Natty 20 29 24
Natty 20
29
24
30
What'd you roll
Four Bears
Four Bears had
I guess an 18
18
It was on a natural 20
And then rolled to a 2
And I'm sorry
Feyraza and
Baron
29
24
Okay
It's 31 actually
Feyraza and Pembroke in the back, no less.
Maybe because Forbears and Baron are focusing more on the door.
You hear on the other side of the door.
There is something coming.
Pembroke says.
Was that the sound of something coming or somebody carrying a fizzy beverage?
So let's step five foot back, I would say.
I mean, do you want me to impersonate a giant?
I mean, they don't really know.
Could have tried the door and been a giant trying to get in.
True.
Just like via your voice?
Mm-hmm.
Do you speak giant?
Mm-hmm.
Oh, wow.
Go for it.
So this whole time we all could have been communicating in giant.
I don't speak.
With you.
I didn't even think of that.
It'd be so rude to Baron.
Well, he hasn't actually revealed at all that he can speak giant.
That's true.
He heard it.
Yeah.
Actually, apparently Ferrazza does not speak giant.
So you all want us to take a five-foot step back?
Is that what you're thinking?
Except for forebears?
Well, we can do that to start, and then, you know, we can determine.
Don't eat to eat on.
Do you want me to bang on this door?
Yeah, go for it.
But I would like to cast the protection from evil while I'm still on touching range of everybody.
Sure.
Remind me the duration on that.
It's ten minutes split up between.
So, like, two.
It's, like, two and a half minutes each.
Okay.
So you're, like, readying that, basically.
Okay, before bears, what's your plan here?
He's going to take his mace and just like
up high on the door. He's just gonna
go boom, boom,
boom, three times
strong and then
say like
open up.
Um, there's a pause
and you
hear There's a pause, and you hear, which is like, who's there?
Boom, boom, two times really hard.
Open in the name of Skirkotla.
You hear the wood barring the door lift up.
Can I ready an action?
I would like to ready an action as well.
If they open up the door, I'm going to do a standard action ability on myself.
Okay.
But right now I'm holding to see if they open the door.
Okay.
The door is unbarred.
But does not open.
But does not open.
Mm-hmm.
Okay.
Grant's going to pee himself.
Very excited.
Can I write in action as well?
Sure.
As soon as the door is open, I'm going to cast a spell.
Okay.
On four bears.
And is it obvious how the door opens?
Does it open out toward four bears, or does it open into the room?
It opens into the room.
And are there two doors, or just one big door?
It's a double door.
It's one big double door.
Wait, what?
That's what?
So it's a double door.
I'm sorry, it's one big ten-foot-wide door.
It's a double wide. That's what? So it's a double door. I'm sorry, it's one big ten-foot-wide door. It's a double wide.
That's what we call it.
One big two.
I don't know.
I am just sort of like going off the cuff here.
Four Bears is just going to try to push open the door when he hears the latch come open.
All right.
You push open the door, and you see a small-ish, in comparison to the size of the building, looks like a bedroom.
There is a huge set of double doors directly across from you.
Two of them, right?
Two of them, yep.
Two.
Forty feet wide.
Each door is twenty feet wide.
There are two beds in the room.
The room appears to be empty.
The door on the other side is cracked open, leading into the next room.
Oh.
Ambush.
Baron's going to cast Sea Invisibility on himself.
Ooh.
I was just like, I wish we had see invisibility,
and I completely forgot that you did that.
Which will last 110 minutes.
Okay.
And Matthew, you would ready the spell.
Without seeing an enemy, it doesn't make any sense to cast it.
So you would pull that back.
But I do cast communal protection from evil.
Okay.
He's going to, assuming... He casts say anything about seeing something in the room,
he's going to throw his voice and try to basically say, like,
Like, this disrespect will not be tolerated as he's walking into the room toward the next door.
He's going to slowly start walking in.
I wish we'd given you Thremier's beard.
Oh, yeah.
Nothing.
Keep walking.
Perception checkione.
He's 10 feet away from the door.
He's going to look at the door where it's cracked
to see if he sees a shadow or anything through the door.
29.
There we go.
Is everybody else staying outside just out of curiosity?
I'm coming in.
Asking for a friend.
Can I roll perception?
Assuming we all come in, can I roll perception as well?
Yeah, absolutely.
You all want to follow into the room?
Yeah.
30.
25.
28.
Check those corners. Check those corners. 25. 28. Check those corners.
Check those corners.
Okay.
The door's cracked.
You cannot see anything into the next room, but you hear breathing.
To the left or to the right?
Breathing to the left.
To the left.
Okay.
Well done, Troy.
You like that?
He used his right hand
to indicate our left.
I feel like I just learned
a little bit of taekwondo.
So we should check under the bed,
perhaps, to our left.
No, you're out of the door.
Wow, this is out of the door.
Can we still...
Actually, that's a good idea.
Can we check under the beds anyway?
Sure.
Quickly.
Quickly.
Yeah, obviously.
29.
29.
Nothing. Baron is going to cast uh detect evil throughout
the door to try to locate the area so that should take 18 seconds if everyone wants to do it so we
know exactly where they are in the room um all right so you're just if they are evil detecting
evil and you do detect evil okay i let it go for a couple seconds And I know where the strongest aura is Yep there is at least one aura
On the other side of the door
To the left afar
Okay I let him know
I let four bears in the rest group know
He's by the other entrance
I can feel his power
Or hers I'm not sure
That's not what detect evil does
Detect evil
So wait there's nobody right next to the door?
No.
It's mid to far.
Mid to far.
Mid to far.
Troy's, again, ignoring how detect evil works, but okay.
Right here.
Well, you don't know what the other room looks like, so.
That's true.
I've drawn the map, but you know it's mid to far.
Four Bears is going to turn to Pembroke.
You speak giant, right?
Yeah, I do.
He's going to turn to Pembroke and close the door, right? Yeah, I do. He's going to turn to Pembroke and close the door.
They're basically telling you to close the door behind you.
Okay.
Just to keep out any...
Pembroke does.
And he bars it.
Well, I see he probably can't do that.
He's probably not strong enough.
But he just at least closes the door.
He closes the door, right.
You probably don't want to bar it, just in case we're too late.
Cut off our only means of escape.
All of a sudden the building starts burning.
You're locked in here with me.
Time is of the essence
as protection from evil
ticks away. You've got two and a half
minutes each, basically.
A little more. Something like that. That's exactly right.
Alright, let's kick it. Fortune favors the bold.
Yep. Let's go. All right.
Forebearers is going to go up and push open the door to the right.
Oh, and I cast a mirror image on myself.
Actually, you know, if he can, he's going to push both doors open Dark Souls style.
Push both doors.
You push open both of the doors Dark Souls style, and you see a larger room than the one you entered into.
There is a large table, long table in the middle of the room,
full of forging supplies.
And on the left side of that table is a fire giant.
It's really happening, you guys.
Behind the fire giant is an open door leading to that other ramp.
Ladies and gentlemen, I need you to roll for initiative.
Oh, yeah.
I like it like that.
I wanted a reason with him.
Natural 20.
Yeah.
Oh, wow.
Oh, look at that mini.
Or major-y, I guess.
It's not really small.
Before we get to initiative, I misspoke slightly.
There's a little partition coming out from the door that leads to the ramp,
so you don't quite know if that's open or closed.
There is, however, a set of double barn doors leading out to the ice itself,
which is what they probably used to go back and forth to make the weapons.
That is wide open.
And the giant is about five feet from the opening of leading out to the ice.
But there is a fire giant standing about 20 feet away from four bears.
And it looks terrifying.
Yeah.
Let's talk initiative.
Pembroke, four.
Four for Pems.
Barron.
29.
29.
Feyraza.
28.
28.
Wow.
Four bears.
12.
12.
All right.
I have a feeling I know what's happening here.
Really?
I have a feeling.
I don't have any idea.
Would you care to share with the group?
I will just say that I don't think we're going to be fighting in this room.
I think we're going out.
I think he's drawing us out.
You think he's friendly?
Yes.
I think we're going to be negotiating in this room.
This is where we turn the tide, gentlemen.
Well, I've had my attorneys look over the paperwork so far.
My name's...
Oh, the paper's on fire!
My name's Andrew Luck.
I'm the resident fire giant of this camp, and it's a pleasure to meet you.
That's a good Andrew Luck impression.
It was good.
All right.
Oh, baby! Pleasure to meet you. That's a good Andrew Luck impression. It was good. All right.
Baby!
Baby!
I like it like that.
Fire Giant.
This room itself, you see there, obviously there's that partition.
You know that's going to lead to the other ramp. And there's also, to your right, a hallway leading to two other rooms.
You see two 20-foot wide doors that are both closed at the moment, leading to two other rooms. You see two 20-foot-wide doors that are both closed at the moment
leading to two other rooms.
Big table there in the middle, full of equipment.
And we see only the fire giant in the room.
Right.
Now, Pember cast protection from evil
last two and a half minutes.
You guys came into that room, took your time.
So I'm going to roll to see how many more rounds
of protection from evil you have.
I call that a compromise.
I'm going to roll a D10.
I call that an ultimatum.
I'm going to roll a D10
to see how many rounds you have left.
Really?
Six rounds. Nice.
Six rounds of protection from evil.
Round one.
Baron.
Does Baron see the ice giant that was off and with this fire giant?
They're called frost giants.
Does he see the frost giant, or does he only see the fire giant?
Roll a perception check.
Okay.
18 for a total of a 34.
Look, you don't see.
You can't fully see into the room.
Obviously, there's around the corner there.
Forebears can see that.
Forebears can freely tell you he doesn't see any creature there.
But there are doors leading there, and then there's a partition in the back.
You do not see the frost giant from where you're standing.
Baron is going to call down a swift judgment of protection from colds onto himself.
So he's sizzling with just this aura of just magic
that'll mitigate any type of the elemental damage
that he thinks will be in this room.
He's going to cast Longshot on himself
because it's a large room
and he'd like to have some more maneuvering.
And he's going to move into the room around this corner
to see if he can see the ice giant.
That's the corner to the right.
Yes, you do not see, again can see the ice giant. That's the corner to the right. Yes.
Flanks out to the right.
You do not see, again, Frost Giant, Grant.
Frost Giant.
Yes.
I really want a Slurpee.
And Sea Invisibility is still active, right?
Yes.
Sea Invisibility is still active.
It will be for, oh, the rest of this combat.
You see nothing.
You see nothing.
And is there any type of knowledge check I could do on the fire giant?
Sure.
Knowledge local.
Knowledge loke.
Tone loke.
Wild thing.
Crack die.
Tone loke.
21.
21.
I can give you one bit of information with a 21.
What are you most interested in?
I want to know what it's resistant to.
Resistant to?
I have a guess.
Yeah, that's a bad question.
I want to know what its turn-ons are.
I mean, you guys already did...
We did resistance, so what's a...
We have a $30 local.
Vulnerable to cold.
We knew that.
You knew that.
Beyond that, you also knew they can throw things
and heat things up as they throw.
Beyond that.
There's nothing else I get with the 21, I bet.
Yeah.
Okay, let's move on.
All right, so that's it.
You cast your standard action.
You cast long shot, and you moved into the room.
Swift standard into the room.
Booyah.
Faraza.
Faraza is going to grip Fourbear's shoulder and cast Blessing of the Salamander.
So let me tell you a little about what this spell does. to grip Fourbear's shoulder and cast Blessing of the Salamander on him.
So let me tell you a little about what this spell does.
It's skin, when you cast this
on a creature, it's skin turns slick
and clammy and is able to regenerate
damage each round.
While under the effects of the spell, the creature gains
fast healing 5, fire resistance
20, and a plus
2 confidence bonus to his combat maneuver defense.
Oh, my God!
Holy shit!
Oh, that's great.
Put that on your hero lab.
It'll make your life a lot easier.
Yeah, I did.
Holy crap.
It's in there.
Blessings of the salamander.
Just one.
Just one blessing.
Do you want to move at all?
Faraz will stay where she is for now.
Move into the room.
No, she'll stay where she is for now.
How long does it last?
Rounds per level?
I believe so.
Okay.
That's awesome, man.
So ten rounds.
Wow.
It is the Fire Giant's turn.
Fire Giant grabs a piece of equipment that they've been using to forge weapons and just...
You can see it starts getting red hot in his hands and he just...
Throws it at Baron.
Baron's going to use
a grit point to drop to the floor as part
of Gunslinger's Dodge. Oh!
Alright. So I will have a total...
Well, you roll. You tell me what you get. Yeah, this is gonna be
almost impossible to hit you unless
I roll the Twanzoni. It misses.
It sails past you.
So I'm now prone on the ground.
Knock yourself over. You're prone, buddy.
And then he moves. He pan over. You're prone, buddy. And then he moves.
He panics.
You see panic in his eyes, and he bolts
out onto the ice.
He yells.
And Feyraza
and Four Bears,
you can see him there. Looks like he's going
for the far ramp.
And it is
Four Bears' turn!
So he's literally standing on the ice. Yes, he's standing
on the ice, and you should know, on the ice,
you gotta move at half speed
if you want to not have to roll an acrobatics
check. Otherwise, DC 15 acrobatics
check to move anything faster than half speed.
DC 20 if you want to charge
or run or anything.
Okay, so Four Bears,
assuming where he's standing right now,
he can see the giant,
and he can see outside?
Uh-huh.
Okay.
He's going to...
Madula!
Curse is under his breath that this thing got out of the room,
but he has alternative optiones.
but he has alternative optiones.
He is going to sheathe his mace
and begin an incantation.
The winds start to pick up outside as an ice storm begins forming where he ran. Oh, wow.
The stupid son of a bitch.
Awesome.
So all of a sudden, the winds start going, and giant magical hailstones start pounding down on him.
Wow.
From the sky.
That's awesome.
And it takes effect this round, or it takes a round to cast it?
It takes effect immediately, so it's just like...
All right, roll for damage.
Let me know if there's a save.
These giant magical hailstones.
There is no save.
Wow.
How long does it last?
It lasts one round per level.
Oh, wow.
No, but the damage only happens once, but it affects the terrain.
So he takes nine points of bludgeoning damage and six points of cold damage.
Nine bludgeoning.
Beautiful.
Twelve cold.
Gorgeous.
Nine bludgeoning, 12 cold.
And then heavy snow and sleet comes down in the area.
Creatures inside take a minus 4 perception check,
and the area is treated as difficult terrain.
All right.
Wow.
All right.
Good move.
Do you want to move it off?
That was sheathing my mace.
I see.
All right.
It is Pembroke's turn.
Pembroke, you're in the back there. Pembroke is going to use the metamagic rod and
cast haste
on all of us.
And then he's going to begin casting
summon monster five.
Alright, Pembroke begins casting summon
monster five. It is round
two, and it is Baron's
turn. Oh, and I move into the room.
Oh, you move into the room. Okay.
Baron, you are prone in front of the
doors to this larger room, this
workshop area. Yup, yup. So Baron
is essentially going to
double move. He's going to get up from being
prone and he's going to move now 40 feet
thanks to haste right up to the lip
of the door. Okay, so you're about 10 feet away
from the door. Yup. And what do you do?
Oh, I get an extra move action with haste?
No. You stood up. Yep.
And then you double move, no? Yeah, so that's
my second move. You get two move actions with haste
or you stood up and then double move. That's three
move actions. No, I stood up and moved once.
Ah, okay. But your move speed
is increased. Right, but now I'm out of
standard actions because I moved twice in a round, right?
Correct. Yes. Yes.
Haste does not provide. It just increases your move,
so I am done for the round. You're done.
Just standing right there.
About 10 feet away from the door.
About 25 feet away
from the fire giant, Feyraza.
Okay. Feyraza is going to
step into the room behind Pembroke.
Okay. And then she's going to cast
Ice Spears. Stay behind me! I'll
protect you!
Not really. Thanks.
Thanks.
And then she's going to cast ice spears underneath
the fire giant.
There you go.
Two of them. And because you're standing on a
frozen lake, I get a couple little bonuses.
Oh boy. Okay, so each spear is going to do
damage, and then we got this wrong, but it's
going to be one attempt to trip. Right. With a bonus, because there's more than one spear hitting. Alright, I'm looking at the spell here, so each spear is going to do damage, and then we got this wrong, but it's going to be one attempt to trip
with a bonus because there's more than one spear hitting.
All right, I'm looking at the spell here,
so you get a plus 10 bonus to the check
plus another plus 4 because you're on high,
so you're getting a plus 14 to trip.
Plus my caster level plus my wisdom modifier.
All right, but I get a reflex save
to have all the damage and to prevent the trip,
so let's see here.
DC 17.
Gah! Failed. Failed! All right, but I get a reflex save to have all the damage and to prevent the trip. So let's see here. DC 17. God!
Failed.
Failed!
All right, but it's still a pretty hard trip, although you're getting a plus 14.
So roll the damage of both spears first.
Okay, so here's the piercing.
Seven piercing.
Eight cold.
Okay.
Nice.
And then here, I'll do the other damage.
Yeah, do both damage first.
Seven piercing again and eight cold again.
Oh, wow.
Awesome.
All right.
And now roll the CMB check.
It's still a pretty tough CMB, but you're getting a plus 14 to the check.
Plus 24 to my roll, basically.
Oh, God.
Yeah.
You're done, so.
Plus 28 to my roll.
Well, he's going to have high CMD.
So it's plus 28 total.
Okay.
Wow.
And it's going to be a 34.
And you trip the fire.
Yeah!
Town goes crazy.
Pathetic.
Awesome.
All right.
The fire giant goes down.
Is there anything else you can do with this horrible spell?
I think that's it.
All right.
So the fire giant goes down.
It's his turn.
He is going to stand up.
In difficult terrain.
In difficult terrain.
That's fine.
And then move back out of the difficult terrain onto the ramp back there, basically.
He's running away.
Leaps over.
He's now a little bit more difficult for you to see.
He disappears out of sight for all of us, I think,
except Baron. Right. However, Matthew
is now seeing the pawn straight on, and those
things are terrifying. Yeah, it's pretty
nasty. How tall are they?
Fire giants? They're between, I think,
12 and 15 feet tall. Wow.
And they're really ugly. Like, they're super
gnarled and warty
and gross.
Gross. And they live up to 350 years.
Wow.
In captivity.
The first frost giant you guys saw was in the grog hall.
Yes.
That was a big deal.
Now you're eating frost giants for breakfast.
This is a fire giant.
Frost giant sausage.
So far you've done pretty well against it.
About ten feet away from Baron.
Oh, no.
Here it comes. All of a sudden, a strike
comes out from the Frost Giant
who is hiding behind the door.
Oh, no. She comes swinging
with her great axe at Baron.
She, by the way.
God,
it's so hard to hit Baron.
I'm gonna say
it's a 25.
Miss.
25 misses.
So she steps around the corner to swing at Baron and completely misses with a great axe.
Swing and a miss.
There you go, Bear.
Bear.
There you go, Bear.
Bear.
So she was outside.
She was outside on the ice.
And it is Fourbear's turn.
Forbear's is going to
draw his mace
as he moves.
And he's going to try to
close on this fire giant, try to
interpose himself between
Baron and the Frost Giant.
Alright, so you're gonna
step up there and go
towards the door.
He's got a lot of movement. You got haste, remember?
Yeah, you got haste.
Get up in that biz. Be careful about
incurring. Moving from up
to its space will incur. Yep.
So he's going to incur an attack
of opportunity because with haste he'll
still be able to get an attack off.
Alright, and your AC is no joke.
But I don't know, Joe.
I'm feeling good over here.
He's got the shield raised, the mace in his hand,
magical wards around him.
Ooh, natty 18.
Oh, damn it.
That is going to be a 36 to hit.
Oh, yeah, that'll do it.
All right, I forgot to put power attack on.
Good.
So it is going to be 19 points of damage.
Shab-a-boom. Shabba boom.
Shabba boom.
And now you are right up
against him.
You have plus two from
protection from evil.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, I know.
I know.
And I'm fighting
defensively.
But 36 is still going to
get through.
But he is going to take
one swing.
Okay.
Here at the Frost Giant.
That is a 25 to hit.
That is a hit.
Oh, yeah.
All right.
And he does 11 points of damage.
11 points of damage.
All right.
Both giants have taken damage now.
And it is Pembroke's turn.
Pembroke is going to move up to the door
Okay
No the door that everyone else is standing at
The big door
Leading onto the lake
And
Right up to it
Right up to the door
Sorry
And he is going
He's going to
Summon
With the summon monster five
A large ice elemental.
Oh!
Named Ephraim.
Ephraim the Ice Elemental.
Ephraim.
I love it.
And he's going to appear right between, on the other side of the fire giants from us.
Blocking his way.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
Large ice elemental
on the ramp?
No.
How high is the ramp?
You can just jump right on and off. Okay, then on the other
side of the ramp. Off the ramp.
Off the ramp. So basically providing
a possible flanking opportunity.
Exactly. Alright, so it shows up and immediately
attacks. Yes, and he takes his
two slams. Okay. Alright, so it shows up and immediately attacks. Yes. And he takes his two slams.
Okay.
Natural 20!
Ephraim!
Ephraim, I love you! Roll to confirm.
Roll to confirm.
That is a 22
to confirm. You sure?
Yes, I'm positive. Not confirmed.
Okay.
So that's exploding dice. Not confirmed. Okay. So that's... Still exploding dice.
Yeah, exploding dice.
All right, so...
So that's six points of normal damage.
Okay.
And five points of cold.
Okay.
Second slam is a miss.
Second slam is a miss.
So Ephraim comes out.
Boom!
Hits and then strikes the ice
beneath the giant. Yes.
And now it's your turn.
And now, so Pembroke casts
fireball
in the direction of the frost giant
so that the frost giant is caught just at the
edge of it. So the edge of it is just outside the
door. Beautiful.
Alright, what is that? A reflex save?
Yes. What a good door. Beautiful. Yeah. All right. What is that? A reflex save? Yes.
That is.
What a good turn.
Fire and ice.
Oh, man.
I'll tell you.
Wizards, baby.
That is a DC 19 reflex per half.
Giants have great reflexes.
Yeah, they do.
Let's see.
Fail.
Oh, man.
Brutes, magoots.
All right.
And it is...
That is 44 points of fire damage.
Oh, Jerry.
You've been frosted giant.
So 44 plus another 22 on top of it.
Oh, my God.
Yikes.
Febrick's feeling all right.
He's feeling pretty good right now.
Wow.
Oh, my God.
What a fireball.
I missed fireball when I was a sorcerer back in the day.
It was the best spell ever.
Actually, the best one was, I don't know if it's in Pathfinder,
was Delayed Fireball.
Oh, God.
It was like you shoot it, and then it's on a timer,
and then it'll explode when you least expect it.
It was great.
All right.
Good moves by Pembroke there.
And, Pembroke, you're just going to stay at the door there, right?
Yes.
And I have five mirror images from the mirror image
that I cast when I first came out.
Ah, that's right.
I forgot about mirror image.
All right, so there's you plus five?
Yes.
Okay.
Right.
All right, round three.
It's only been two rounds.
I'm seeing double.
12 Pembrokes.
Round three, and it is Baron's turn.
Baron's going to take a five-foot step back immediately
and then fan the hammer of his flintlock pistol
with four consecutive attacks,
all of which will be up close and deadly.
Nice.
All right.
I think you've got a clear shot there.
This is great.
First one is an 18 on the die.
That's an absolute hit.
Let's see how many of them hit first.
I know.
Roll the damage because we've done this before.
Okay, great.
You didn't know you were going to shoot your gun this turn.
You weren't expecting to shoot your fucking gun.
Okay, the first attack does 22 points of damage.
Yeah.
All right, next attack.
Next attack.
Another hit.
Nice.
Cool, let's do it, baby baby You need a bigger dice tray
I know I really do
Just don't use one
No he does need one
He needs a dice tray
That's true
They need to be corralled
He needs a dice tower
27 points of damage on the second attack
Oh my god
We should just grant a giant sorry popper for his dice
Yeah like boggle
Boggle yeah like boggle Okay Boggle, yeah, like Boggle.
Okay.
Third attack.
Third attack is going to be another hit.
Okay.
Get that misfire in there.
Yeah, really.
37 points of damage on the third shot.
And you kill the frost giant.
Boom, boom, boom.
The frost or the fire giant?
The frost giant.
The frost giant falls and its blood begins seeping into the ice.
So awesome.
So awesome.
That was cold-blooded.
Cold-blooded.
All right, Baron, you got one more shot, but no targets.
Can't, can't.
Fire one off at Pembroke.
I'm going to shoot four bears.
He shoots one of my mirror images.
Pyo, pyo, pyo, pyo.
We got to add some challenge to this fight, my friend.
All right, Feyraza, you are pretty far away from the action
here. What do you want to do?
Faraza is going to wild
shape. Actually, she's going to
wild shape into a
large air elemental.
Oh!
And she's going to fly out. She's got a bit of fly speed,
so she's going to go out through the storm
and land on the corner of the
far corner of the pier. Well, not land, but she's going to go out through the storm and land on the corner of the... Far corner of the lower pier.
The far corner of the pier.
Well, not land, but she's going to hover there.
Stop there.
She's got perfect maneuverability.
How high above the pier, for example?
Let's say...
Let's give ourselves a little bit of a bubble.
We'll say 25 feet in the air.
Oh, so she's pretty high up there hovering over the pier.
Okay.
And that's your turn, right?
That is my turn.
I'd be so scared.
If I was just, like, I just got done with a hard day
of, like, doing whatever they're doing,
and, like, there's four, like, Navy SEALs with magic,
like, burst in and just start killing me.
Just start killing me?
Yeah.
Oh, boy, here.
All right.
It is the fire giant's turn, and he is in bad shape. You just saw the female
frost giant go down. He has
an ice elemental,
right? Yes. Frost elemental.
Yes, Ephraim directly
behind him there, who just laid out
one decent slam, and
all this difficult terrain to contend
to if he just wants to get the hell out of Dodge.
But that's what he wants to do, is he wants
to try and run
to create some space,
perhaps call
the night patrol.
So he's going to run down to the end of the
pier. There is some difficult
terrain there as well,
so that's going to slow him down. Those are going to
count as double moves, so let me do this math
here real quick.
All right, so he bolts.
He bolts down the end of the pier there. Gets slowed down through some difficult terrain and then, like, hops off the end.
And he's pretty far away now from everybody except Feyraza.
Double move, full withdraw.
You guys feel like you have the battle in hand, but at the same point, if he rouses the suspicion
of the night patrol, you could be in bad
shape. What does he do when he reaches the end of
the pier? He yells
out,
You catch some
of it. It's like, help, help, we're under attack.
And it
is Four Bears' turn.
Oh, this got out of hand.
This got out of hand. Four Bears' turn. Oh, this got out of hand. This got out of hand.
Four Bears is...
He is going to sheathe his mace,
turn to Pembroke,
and he's going to put his hand on Pembroke
for just a heartbeat,
and just...
pointing out in front of him,
don't walk on the ice, my friend.
And then he's going to cast...
One of my mirror images. That wasn't me.
I took it into embarrassment.
Roll 1d4.
And then he is going to cast
Fly on himself.
Oh, okay.
And he's overcome with this magical energy
and the ability to fly.
Alright, and that's all he does.
That's all he can do.
You're not going to take a move action?
A move action is sheathing the mace.
A lot of move action sheaths for old forebears.
All right, it is Pembroke's turn.
All right, Pembroke is...
And Ephraim.
Pembroke and Ephraim.
Ephraim is going to double move 40 feet,
and he's not affected by the difficult
terrain because it's ice.
He's going to ice glide.
He's going to try to get as close to the
giant as he can.
I'm up in the air so he doesn't
matter.
If he can only move 40 feet,
where that doesn't affect him, he'll get
probably about within 10 feet of him.
And he's large, so he has reach, right?
I'm assuming he's large, yeah.
Yes, he is large.
So he's 10 feet away.
Oh, no, but he double moved.
He double moved.
All right, so and then Pembroke is going to step forward to the edge of the difficult terrain.
Okay.
And he's going to use the metamagic rod to cast lightning bolt on the fire giant.
Oh, lightning bolt.
Yeah.
So Pembroke steps out onto the ice, ignoring the advice of four bears, gets within range and casts.
What is it again?
Oh, wait.
No, sorry.
No, I'm just going to stay at the edge of the door.
I'm not going to move.
And it's lightning bolt.
It's a DC 19 reflex save for half. All right. So you stay inside, cast lightning bolt. It's a DC 19 reflex save for half.
All right.
So you stay inside, cast lightning bolt, DC 19 for half.
Makes it.
Actually makes it.
Okay.
So it's 41 points of electricity halved.
So 20 points of electricity.
Brutal.
And then he is also going to cast Magic Missile.
With the wand of the...
He used the metamagic with the...
Lightning bolt.
Okay, so Magic Missile.
Those will land true.
Yep.
And that is another 21 points of damage.
21 points of damage.
Force damage.
Oh, God.
Force damage.
All right, the Fire Giant is dead. I almost feel bad for the of damage. Force damage. Oh, god. Force damage. Alright, the
fire giant is dead. I almost feel bad for
the fire giant. Bad shape. Almost,
but not quite. He's so ugly. It's round
four. Baron, you're up.
Baron uses the extent of his
move action, hasted, mind you, in order
to move still way outside of his
rage increment, so he is going to reach
in to his gold bag of trips
and tricks. Tri trips and tricks for all
the kids out there uh-huh with 400 feet of range plus 40 foot a level uh-huh baron is easily able
to cast silence on the fire giant now there's a dc-16 wilson how did he open the door to the um
oh i thought you said it was open from earlier no no just the double doors
okay uh then baron will redo that uh and you no. Just the double doors. Okay. Then Baron will redo that.
You can go out the main doors.
I can also just cast from where I stand, but I will stand at the edge of the ice.
Okay.
So Baron goes out right before the edge of the difficult terrain, and you cast what?
I cast Silence on the giant.
On the giant.
DC 16 will save.
He doesn't speak Chauantin.
I thought maybe Pembroke would say something.
Warbear tries to grab him before he steps out on the ice, but it's 15.
Fail.
15, so the giants are...
And a 20-foot radius around, so beware.
Faraz, if you want to cast a spell in your form, you've got to get 20 feet away from him.
All right.
I am right now.
What is it you can do?
Doggy.
This is a 50% mischance.
Solve with verbal components.
Cannot be cast.
No noise whatsoever. Issues from enters or
