This week on the Glass Cannon Podcast.
Subtitle of this episode could be,
Do you have darkvision?
It's been asked about seven years.
While exploring the inky blackness of an ancient tomb.
You get the sense that the room in front of you is huge.
It almost appears like it used to be some kind of mausoleum.
The heroes come under attack.
Oh my god!
Roll for initiative.
With little knowledge to guide them.
Knowledge religion.
Don't have that.
Well, then you know nothing!
Emotions run high.
Dice don't work that way, unfortunately.
They do not, Matthew.
I'm tired of your cold rationalism.
About everything.
And loyalties are questioned. Whose team are you on, Joe? I know! It's like I'm tired of your cold rationalism about everything. And loyalties are questioned.
Whose team are you on, Joe?
I know.
It's like I'm helping them.
It's like I'm helping them.
Oh, my God.
There's a mole.
The adventure continues.
Why am I with the great axe?
It's so angry.
It's so mad.
Right now. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to another episode of the Glass Cannon Podcast.
It's your boy, Grant Berger, a.k.a. Baron Ashpeak.
I want to tell you that I had a fabulous time at our live show in Los Angeles.
And I want to thank everyone for coming out to see us begin one of the most exciting adventure paths I've ever been a part of, Strange Aeons.
adventure pass I've ever been a part of, Strange Aeons.

Let's fill up the Leviathan Theater and let them know that the GCP nation is a force to be reckoned with.
Without further ado, please enjoy episode 179.
nine welcome back everybody to another exciting episode of the glass cannon podcast if you're listening to this at home hopefully it arrived on time because i woke up last week to a barrage
of text subreddit threats really blown out of proportion nonsense. Yeah, threats on your child's life.
Threats on my child's life.
Don't laugh.
That was over the top.
They took it too far.
That's taking it too far.
Because our podcast host, Blueberry, just decided not to post our episode.
It was scheduled to go.
It was on our website.
By the way, it's always on our website.
If it doesn't show up on your precious feed reader, you can go to the website.
But man, that really sucks.
So hopefully you're getting this one on time.
But if not, can we just relax?
Can everyone just relax?
Trey, I know you're unfamiliar with the work commute, but it is something that many Americans do.
commute uh but it is something that many americans do and it is a time when uh you really the only way to stave off uh killing everyone around you and yourself is by listening to a podcast you
enjoy we put out lots of podcasts you're telling me everyone's caught up all those people bitching
and moaning are caught up on every single episode of shows we put up listen to an old can fodder
the thing about the commute choice. Those are gold.
Those would stand the test of time.
They want to stave off the killing of other people and themselves.
The thing about the commute choice, it happens every day.
No.
That can't be true.
You're telling me people get up and travel one hour every day of the week?
Oh, what a pip.
I humiliated Blueberry on Twitter, so hopefully their business shut down and we lost all of our content.
You were a little cowardly, though.
You didn't tag them.
I tagged at them to say that they caused a problem, but then I did not tag at them to insult them because I'm not a monster, Grant.
Well, could have fooled me.
We should definitely continue to talk about it on our podcast.
Oh, man, like those nerds would ever listen to this
You know, the worst part about it is
There's no one else
There's like Libsyn and Blueberry and that's it
So they know they can be shitty
Because they have no competition
I digress
Anyways, hopefully you're listening to this episode
As it is meant to appear at 12.01 a.m. Eastern Time
On a Tuesday.
Last week, you finally went into the mountain.
Well, technically, you went in the mountain two weeks ago,
but last week is when you really got to see what is going on.
You had your first encounter inside of the old mountain.
And it started like most of your encounters do.
Grant got to his turn and one of
my monsters was dead immediately exactly that's uh it's usually how this show goes that's how
it's gone for a good hundred plus episodes do you think you would have done something about that by
now you know i i thinking to myself well we'll get to this but had that guy stayed alive how
different that combat would have been that's how my father did it. That's how his father'd do it. And that's how I'm doing it, Troy.
Are you talking about Baron or your actual father?
Both.
Okay.
They're one and the same.
They're both the same.
And which of Baron's fathers?
Oh.
Good point.
Let's get into that.
Daddy issues and mommy issues.
Well, you know, I really thought it was over,
but luckily you walked, and by you, Joe, straight into a trap, and you all failed your reflex save.
Has that ever happened on the history of this show?
There's no way I'm actually remembering.
No, I don't think all four of us have ever failed the same save on the same trap.
We haven't run into a lot of traps anyway.
That's true.
Because giants, for the most part, aren't incredibly canny people who like...
But even Mass Effect spells, I don't think any of them know.
It's mostly Matthews kept us from even having to be in that situation,
because his characters are often flying, or kind of like off on their own.
Farther away.
And like a lot of, when Skid was Nestor especially,
that was further away from like any breath weapon, for example.
Yeah, that's true.
There's been like two or three of us in a breath weapon, but not all four.
And certainly something that would have that wide of a range to catch you all in it for you to have to roll the
save uh so that was that was fortuitous uh i lamented i think i lamented off the air that
i should have just went after four bears yeah oh yeah oh yeah i i don't know why we talked about
it afterwards you were like that he would have been dead and i would have been able to start
moving along and actually killing people.
Yeah.
Getting Feyraza out first.
It was Feyraza first, right?
Yeah.
It was like, saved the party.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I don't know why I, at the time, it seemed like a good idea.
You know, I didn't even think of this until this moment.
Is that exactly, I mean, you have your reasons, but was this combat and that trap the motive for the bottle cap rule change?
No.
No, no, no, no.
This is something I've been thinking about for a while.
You didn't plan on all...
Well, I know that, but I mean executing it right then.
No.
Honestly, I didn't even make that connection until you just said that right now.
Yeah, I didn't think of it until just now, yeah.
And you could have said, you know what?
Before I roll this reflex save, I want my plus.
Well, we didn't think we were all going to fail.
Right.
You think of one person.
Well, also, when it's a reflex save, you're typically like, I'll take it.
It's going to be 40 points of damage, so I'll take it. It's going to be 40 points of damage.
Take it.
Damage.
It's half damage as opposed to damage.
Right.
Right.
Exactly.
Nope.
Frozen in ice.
And yet, still, you've been fighting giants, frost giants, for the most part, but other
kinds of frost giants for a while, and they've never really posed a threat.
But, man, just taking a couple of you out of the combat, I think you were all, we joke about this, but all one crit away from permadeath.
Sure.
I think that maybe now more than ever, and you guys correct me if you think I'm wrong, but now more than ever, we absolutely rely on every piece of this puzzle.
I would say maybe the least on forebears.
But like, you have to have Baron and his gun.
You have to have teleport and all of the other stuff with the wizard.
And you have to have Faraz's wild shape and abilities to fly and buff and
debuff and do crowd control.
It's just so.
And what do you contribute?
I just realized nothing.
I just realized that.
He's the looks.
Nothing.
Exactly.
We can throw you to the giants first.
That's important.
Doesn't every adventuring
party need a really big tough guy you're like that guy from the mighty mighty boss tones that
just dances yeah the hype man in the corner four bears the hype man yeah this is a ska band
and you are the dancer i never had no knock on wood and i'm glad i haven't yet okay because i
heard it isn't good we were saying though before we started that against enemies that hit this hard with
giants it's like you basically have to go uninjured or die yeah because if you get hit twice you're
dead and that's yeah so if you're in it and then you get hit and you try to get away you know you
take that attack of opportunity yeah so power attack crit times three 80 plus points of damage i mean if you're
sitting on 10 20 points of damage it's not like you're gonna bleed out you're gonna outright die
uh and i mean it's the odds are going to tip the other way right but but not if you're sitting on
10 or 20 hit points if you're sitting on 60 hit points yeah you immediately insta die no one has
a 20 con here into a crit you know yeah yeah yeah that's, I mean, look at, that's how Della went.
You see how he's smiling right now?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Well, I'm just thinking about it because it's, I mean, we say this a lot, but it's going to happen.
And I don't know when, I don't know how.
It may not be climactic.
Like, if someone, if Baron just got crit in that first room in the vestibule of this place, dead.
Yeah.
That's Baron's story. That could have happened. Yeah yeah it absolutely could have happened so very close to happen be aware uh
now we know what we're dealing with i am away uh what do you want to do now you're sitting on
we went through the hit points uh yes you burned a couple spells i think feyraza probably more than
pembroke but you definitely both use some flame strike a couple tele. I think Feyraza probably more than Pembroke, but you definitely both used some.
Flamestrike, a couple teleports.
You tell me, you guys.
You tell me what you want to do.
Help me help you.
I think we are in a position.
I was trying to hold back.
I was trying to reserve a bunch of spells, but I used a couple fireballs and a spell
that apparently I shouldn't have used at all.
An illegal spell.
Starfall!
It's a third-party spell! It's a third-party spell. I didn't have used it all. An illegal spell. Starfall! It's a third-party spell!
It's a third-party spell.
I didn't know.
I didn't look too hard at it
because A, I'm really lazy,
and B, I don't really care.
That's a bad combo.
I can't use it anymore.
That's a bad combo.
I know.
It's what's got me fired
from every job I've had.
So, yeah. And yet here I've had. So, yeah, so just, I guess.
And yet here you're thriving.
So everybody just imagine that it was a lightning bolt instead, I guess.
That happened.
It didn't happen.
Lightning bolt.
It was all a dream.
Like Bobby in the shower, it comes out as it was all a dream.
A horrible, horrible dream.
And we can turn that around in one episode instead of a whole season.
Exactly.
Spoilers for Dallas.
So, anyone who's binging Dallas.
Original Dallas.
Original Dallas.
There goes my weekend.
Just got the Dallas box set.
On Laserdisc.
On Laserdisc, no less.
But I think we're stuck.
I mean, we have to, not only are we all banged up,
but we're low on healing resources anyway.
So not only do we have to rest, we have to shop.
Shopping spree!
Do we have any money left after Baron's gun?
Not a lot, actually.
Oh, I need to get my computer out for that sheet.
These guys don't
have magical weapons so they didn't leave anything really worth uh worth it behind uh yeah you spent
everything on baron's gun which he um went in and almost misfired and exploded again well
with the company money
we need to take your card back oh no baron please membership has privileges
i agree we need to have a committee vote every time you fire after it's fired
we need to we need to vote on it we need a call session call um i was actually talking with
matthew a little bit before the show a little behind the scenes info here and i know troy discourages it entirely but um i think we
got enough charges on the old wanzonis to get through another combat before we have to shop
the other the this is this might be my favorite comment from joe and ever i said we only have so
many wands charges and you were down like what like 100 hit points or something close i said
do you have any healing spells prepared and jo Joe goes, I'm not using them out of combat.
I'm not.
That's what wands are for.
We have plenty.
We have plenty to go around. That's why Jason Bowman invented resonance.
To quit cheesing the system because of players like you, Joe.
You're doing it for everyone.
Well, I mean, for the record, I only have two heal spells.
And they're very powerful.
And it would be helpful to use it in combat.
They're very powerful.
If I don't say so myself.
I think, you know, they should be used in dire circumstances when a wand will not do.
But here, a wand will do.
Well, I guess we could.
We could conceivably, because we did.
We healed our fair.
We have very little healing ability left, except for your spells.
I have two.
So we could do, try to run into one more encounter see hopefully they invested
well and we can take whatever annuities they have and then then go shopping yes it'll help
yes yeah i think that makes sense because we really just need a couple of
sherlock wound wands yeah right but i honestly i'm not 100 sure we can afford that. I mean, they're $750 a piece.
Two of them are $1,500.
We have $1,500 in the coffers.
We're fine.
In the petty cash.
We're fine.
Okay, good.
I would think that we would have it, but I thought that you were scraping pennies to make that gun.
No, there's plenty of that.
I mean, I couldn't get another plus one enhancement.
Counting those alchemical cartridges.
I had to pay money to craft those as well.
He doesn't know that.
We have 5,495 remaining by my count.
Okay, beautiful.
Just buy Cure Serious wands.
How much is a Cure Serious wand?
Oh, it's like 8,000.
Wait, well, Cure Serious, I don't even know if you can do.
Is that third level?
It would be four. I think a moderate is 4500 so i mean it's a huge jump oh we could wait do we have craft wands that's that's a separate skill right yeah it is separate so
we don't have that no no but we can do the fords though right can't we
it doesn't imbue the ability i can't remember but um we'll look into it yeah i think you should buy
a cleric a a wand of cure serious wounds with 50 charges would cost 11 000 oh my god right but and
it's also it's not worth it it doesn't make any sense the cost per healing doesn't make sense
yeah i mean it could save a life in a battle but in combat yes correct but it's so cost prohibitive yeah that's why i don't own a tesla
that's why i want to save the world i want to save the world but i can't buy uh can i do i'm
not sure i can't remember if this was done but no could i do a could i do a knowledge local did we do a knowledge local?
Did we do a knowledge local to see if these guys were, like,
if there was something particularly different about this?
Is it a different, like, species of frost giant,
or are they just advanced templates?
Yeah, go ahead and roll a knowledge local.
31.
No, they don't appear to be a different species. It just appears to be a stronger version of the Frostguards that you fought throughout the camp.
And it would make sense.
She wants her best men protecting the vestibule.
Do you think they have, like, fighter levels?
That vestibule is really valuable.
It's the nicest vestibule in town.
The only vestibule in town.
But we got the sense that they didn't have dark vision, right?
Right.
They didn't have dark vision.
They had low light vision.
But no other powers or abilities that they showed other than pure brute strength.
Yeah, pure brute strength.
I mean, they mashed.
That's about it.
Okay.
They lived up.
Well, the second one lived up to his position.
Advanced temper.
Yeah.
You would think it's probably a pretty unpopular post being in here as opposed to being out
in Gen Pop.
Right.
With all the dudes, man.
Right.
All right.
Well, I don't have anything else I want to do in here.
I'm ready to start exploring.
Yeah.
Did he just slyly throw in some prison slang into that description with Gen Pop?
You're just going to let that go by?
Did you spend time behind bars, Troy?
I did a little time in the clink.
The clink.
Well, now we know that he has it.
Now we know.
He did, but in 1930.
Yeah, he did, but in a play he was in.
I played a prisoner.
Well, I say we follow the advice of Horace Greeley.
Go west, young men.
Let's take the western doors.
I will go into the west.
You have three options.
Yes, there are doors to the north,
doors to the west,
as Skid has suggested,
and then this dark, ominous passageway
that just leads straight to darkness.
Can I stand at the edge of that passageway
and see 60 feet down with my dark vision?
You sure can, Grant.
May I please?
Can I call you Grant?
You can.
I prefer Grant Tholomew.
Sorry, I asked.
Grantipanties?
No, I'm definitely not going to call you that.
Grantigua.
Grantigua.
And let's also try to keep it moving as quickly as possible
because we have temporary boons to darkvision.
Yeah, so you stand at the edge there,
and you see this just stretches on
more of these pillars uh but just pitch black wow i still have bark skin
yeah so let's keep it moving is your bark skin worse than your bite skin
future joe cut that up true you are keep it You are running slow today. Dad jokes, dad jokes.
All right, when you guys are ready, I'll test this door.
I'm going to stand far back.
Do we have someone who can disable traps, by the way, if we find another?
Just that trap that almost killed us all.
Nestor.
Oh, boy. Yeah.
No.
He was good at it.
That was his area of expertise.
I'm still a boa constrictor, right?
Are you?
I believe you are.
Really? You were a boa constrictor? Because? Are you? I believe you are. Really?
You were a boa constrictor?
Because I wanted to get away without standing up.
Oh, cool.
That's one way to do it.
That's lateral thinking.
I like it.
Literally lateral.
It's like you're really lazy and really magic.
I don't want to stand up, so it's going to turn into a snake.
It takes musculature to move as a snake. Quite a bit of it, actually. That's't want to stand up so it's going to turn into a snake. It still takes musculature
to move as a snake. Quite a bit of it, actually.
That's true. Quite a bit of it.
That's why they're delicious.
So you want to open the doors, check
the doors? What do you want to do? Yeah, I want to see if the door is
locked. Well, actually, you know what? Let me do a quick
perception just for good business, just to see if
I hear anything. Natural 20.
Natural 20. 36.
You listen beyond the stone doors and you hear nothing
i will see if they're movable similar to appear to be movable similar to the other ones they
no these not similar to the other ones the other ones uh i think you got the sense that there was
something magical there maybe lingering magic whereas here uh they're just heavy doors but
they do open and they open towards you Okay, he'll open the door
I'm going to cast the mirror image
Mirror image
Grab me a bar
Talk to me about your spell
The duration of spells you're worrying about right now
I have dark vision
We cast it when we were in the room
Just before these guys jumped out
And it's 11 minutes
11 minutes, minutes okay yeah so
i have 110 minutes of bark skin and you have 11 minutes of flying oh this is something else we
found out that uh i cast uh mantle of the magic warriors on baron as well but that spell can only
be cast on good aligned characters.
It has the good descriptor.
So no one's flying now?
Just Baron is not.
But Pembroke and Four Bears have dark vision for 11 minutes
and Firas is flying for 11 minutes.
Okay, you cast that before you came in.
You got into a combat
and now you're just quickly rushing to this door
and you think this is all happening.
Didn't cast it before we came in.
Cast it after we were in the room
and realized it was dark and all that stuff then we cast it then
they jumped out and then uh whatchamacallit um yeah we're moving on okay so i'm a flying
boa constrictor is what you're telling me yes yes it's so that's so mayan
uh it's elastic slithers up through the air. You see a long 20-foot wide hallway that just continues into darkness.
Okay.
Fearing what happened before, Four Bears is going to move like at half speed down this hallway,
constantly checking the floor in front of them for traps.
Okay.
Go ahead and give me.
The area in front of you.
The area.
Area.
Thank you, Steve.
Which square?
All of them.
Remember when we played a modified version of Tomb of Harkness?
I was just thinking about that.
We literally had to say, okay, which square?
We had to check every single square in that dungeon for traps.
It was so annoying.
And the minute we didn't, we set one off.
Right.
All right.
Go ahead and roll a perception check.
20.
Can I roll as well?
Sure.
29.
You don't see anything.
Yeah, you feel pretty confident there's nothing there.
All right.
That perception is enough, though, to get the sense that the deeper you go into this hallway, the room opens up.
Okay.
He's going to keep moving.
All right.
So you keep moving into the room.
And you see it continues for another 50 or so feet before starting to branch out into a much larger chamber more perception for traps
sure i'll roll one two what the hell 35 i'll roll one two 37 26 natural seven um yeah you don't see
anything all right still walking What do I see here?
At about 20 feet before the room opens up. I can see
roughly 40 feet into it.
As you look into where the room
starts to open up, you see columns
depicting fierce,
gigantic figures
lining the walls of
what appears to be an elongated
hall.
At the eastern end, where you guys are,
you see bas-reliefs of additional figures
adorning the walls between the columns.
And that is what you see at the moment.
You get the sense that the room in front of you is huge.
It almost appears like it used to be some kind of mausoleum.
Can I do a knowledge history on the figures that I can see?
Sure.
Images.
21.
21.
Natural one.
Awesome.
Oh, man.
Great job.
I love that.
Sorry, bud.
Yeah, there's nothing that's jumping out
at you other than they look
very similar
but different. They all depict
different people, but there's something very similar
about them. Baron, go ahead and roll a stone
cutting. Like the neighborhood my dad lives in.
With the bonus to
stone cutting, we're talking about
a 38.
38.
All right.
So one thing you notice now that you're entering deeper into this chamber is that this whole room seems to be of newer construction than the room you were just in. And that long hallway that you stepped up to to look into darkness.
They put an addition on.
This is an addition. That's the sense you get. to to look into darkness. They put an addition on. This is an addition.
That's the sense you get.
It's the new room.
Now, by new, it could still be hundreds of years old.
Right.
Whereas the other one is out.
This week on Ancient Tomb Editions.
This really old tomb.
Fixer Upper 2.
This really old tomb.
I'm Baron Ashpeak, and I'm glad you decided to spend the day with me.
The mausoleum.
Joanna and Chip Gaines on this.
I was going to say, the mausoleum comes in at $325,000,
so with your all-in budget of $500,000,
that still leaves you $175,000 for renovations.
They're always like a school teacher and someone who sells cups on Etsy.
And they have a $500,000 budget for a house.
I will admit, I watch a lot of Fixer Upper.
I've been to the silos.
I'm not surprised at all.
All right, Four Bears is going to move up another 20 feet to the edge of this room as it opens up.
Try to see a little bit more.
Now you see the full dimensions of this room.
So as you get to the end of this 40-foot wide chamber, it opens up another 40 feet on each side.
So now it looks to be, at least from where you're standing, 120 feet wide.
And still, you don't see the end of it.
Farazza's going to slip up into the air and try to get some air superiority.
Okay.
It is still 20-foot high ce ceilings it's not such a huge
cavern it's just a really big room right it's longer than it is um high luckily she's only
about what six inches tall right now that's true now with uh this isn't a visual medium i understand
so i apologize but it looks like we only see 35 feet into this room, and we should be seeing
60 in. You're not wrong.
Show me 60 so I can give it to you with that.
With the ruler function. Certainly.
Right there. Alright,
Grant.
There you go. How beautiful.
So you see, yes, more of these
figures
lining the walls.
Men, women, all frost giants. Great, so the north and the south are the walls. Men, women, all frost giants.
Great.
So the north and the south are both walls, but it continues further west.
Yes.
Can Baron do a religion check?
Is this like the other places we've been to where the religion check might be applicable
to these statues?
Yeah, go ahead and roll religion.
16, not great.
I only have a plus five. I'll do one as well. Yeah, go ahead and roll religion. 16, not great. I only have a plus five.
I'll do one as well.
Yeah.
20.
20.
It seems to be honoring descendants.
Descendants of Skirkatla,
descendants of the tribe
that she is now the Jarl of.
You're not sure, but it seems to be honoring someone's descendants.
Yes.
And that would make why they all look similar.
They were all related.
Like a family.
A family.
She's the youngest.
She is, as far as you know, the current Jarl.
She's the one that is, as the wolf told you,
has taken this tribe and risen it to greatness.
Enough so to be noticed by the storm tyrant.
Are there dates on these statues like the dates on the front of this room?
There are not.
Okay.
Let's cross-reference any dates we see, y'all.
Feyraza and Four Bears, you're the ones standing up front.
Feyraza, you're flying as a boa constrictor?
That is correct. Go ahead and ones standing up front. Faye Rousey, you're flying as a boa constrictor? That is correct.
Go ahead and roll a perception check.
34.
34. 22.
22.
You both hear a rumble
from the far side of the room
in the darkness.
And it's a rumble that is
gaining in intensity. Oh dear. Here it comes. As it's a rumble that is gaining in intensity.
Oh dear.
Gaining in sound.
Here it comes.
As all of a sudden,
an enormous mammoth charges.
What?
Into the room.
Oh my God.
Roll for initiative.
Oh no.
I'm looking at these pillars.
I'm like, are they haunted?
Like, no, no.
Just a full-blown live mammoth in the room.
Just a full-blown live mammoth.
Keep it inside.
Definitely keep the mammoth inside.
Baron, what you got?
28.
Yes, thank you, Bear Bear.
Baron, four bears.
17.
I'm sorry.
18.
18, okay.
Feyroza.
20.
20 for Feyroza and Pembroke.
15.
15 for Pembroke. Just hanging outza and Pembroke. 15. 15 for Pembroke.
Just hanging out with my Pembros.
Baron, it is your turn.
You do not see this mammoth, but you do hear this sound coming,
and you see Feyraza and four bears react to the sound as well.
Got it.
Baron is going to take a step back to Pembroke,
is going to take a step back to Pembroke,
and he's going to cast Shield of Faith on him for a little plus two to flex bonus on his AC.
Shield of Faith.
I'm trying out this new thing, which is buffing my friends instead of myself.
You've got to have faith.
And Skid, don't forget that Pembroke also has that armor bonus.
Oh, from the... Yeah, I forget what it's called. Oh, would that not stack? Because I would do armor bonus. Oh, from the...
Yeah.
I forget what it's called.
Oh, would that not stack?
Because I would do something differently.
No, no.
Yours is a deflection bonus, right?
Okay, great.
Shield of Faith.
Magical Vestment.
Magic Vestment.
Oh, right.
Yeah, yeah.
Okay.
Very good.
Is that your turn, Baron?
That is...
That's my turn.
I want to do something else, but I'm going to wait to see how this mammoth shows up.
All right.
Um, Feyraza Alced.
How far away is it from me?
Uh, you still can't see it, but you can hear it.
You can see shadows of it, I should say.
So, standing where you are, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60.
It's beyond 60 feet.
So I'm going to fly forward far enough so I can see it and get a look at it?
All right.
I'm going to reveal a little bit more of this room.
And you do see just about 40 feet beyond the part that you guys had seen so far
that the room now opens into a slightly smaller chamber.
opens into a slightly smaller chamber, and you can see a five-foot-high ledge running along three walls in the back
with more statues depicting giants lying in state stretch on the ledge between the columns.
You know what I mean?
Kind of like lying.
I mean, we can't see any of this on the map, right?
I'm going to reveal it right now, but only Feyraza can see this.
Does that make sense?
So the western end of this chamber becomes less wide.
There's a five-foot-high, ten-foot-wide ledge, and on that ledge, between the columns, are giants lying in a stately fashion.
So they must have been the most honored.
But now you see...
Like Lenin?
They're like...
No, they're like a toppled statue.
It's kind of like...
I am the walrus.
Oh, oh, oh.
All right.
I am the walrus.
And you see Feyraza behind this mammoth.
Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov.
Is a frost giant.
Oh, boy.
Wow.
Okay.
So that was about 20...
Be high, Lennon.
I was just like, because it is a famine.
It's great.
Okay.
So that was about 20 feet of movement.
So Faraz is going to use the rest of her movement
to dive down towards the floor
and touch the floor and cast Stone Shape
to create a
kind of low barrier
so the mammoth can't charge at my friends.
Oh!
I'll draw it on the map, but there's going to be
an appropriately
sized three-foot
wall tall enough
that it couldn't charge.
And you know the hardness and the width and everything of this wall? I mean, it's just stone. Okay. Well, that it couldn't charge. Alright, and you know the hardness and the width and everything
of this wall? I mean, it's just stone.
Okay, well, yeah, that's what I'm going to need
to know in case it wants to charge
straight through it.
I mean, I don't know. Look up stone.
You look up stone!
I'm with Troy on this one.
Whatever the floor is.
Okay, that's how...
It's the same stone. So I'll look it up.
Four bears.
I'm going to delay until you look this up.
Four bears wants to know the hardness of the stone floor.
Roll a stone cutting check.
And ask Matthew for the answer.
I've got it here.
Damaging objects.
Hardness eight.
15 inches of thickness.
Every 15 inch of thickness
gives it a hit point, I guess?
Yeah.
15 per inch of thickness.
Oh, pardon me. Yeah. With hardness 8.
Great. So I've got
21 feet.
21 cubic feet.
So let's do a 20 foot, you know,
15 foot wall.
15 feet high. Yeah, 15-foot wall. 50 feet high.
Yeah, 15 feet high.
Definitely 15 feet high.
And one inch thick.
Yeah.
Perfect.
It's canon.
Four Bears.
Four Bears is going to move 20 feet up in the room towards the edge as he's, you know, reacting to hearing this thing barreling down at him.
He doesn't know exactly what Feyraz is doing up there, so he's going to move up.
And then he's going to do total defense for the round and just get a sense of what's going to happen next. Little TD.
Pembroke, you are in the back.
You can't see these creatures yet, but you do sense danger.
I can't.
I can hear what's happening.
Pembroke is going to start casting
summon monster six.
Oh, boy.
Do you have a name picked up?
I do. Excellent.
I do. All right. It is
the Frost Giant's turn.
He'll go ahead and double move right up to the other
side of the wall. So he's about
10 feet away from Feyraza, but because the wall is 15 feet high, they can't see each other.
It's not 15 feet high.
Oh, how high is it?
It's 21 cubic feet.
It's 15.
It's high.
It's like, what would it be?
It's 21 cubic feet.
It's 15 feet long.
Can a giant attack you over it?
No.
If it charged?
It can't charge.
That's the thing.
No, I'm saying if it charged up to the wall
with its reach, can it swing at you?
No, that's what I'm trying to prevent. That's specifically
the thing I'm trying to prevent. 21 cubic feet
is about the size of a refrigerator.
A standard refrigerator. In fact,
so it's like...
So you just put a refrigerator in front of you.
You put a refrigerator in front of you.
And you're a boa constrictor.
I'm a snake on the ground.
So he runs right up to it and just stands behind it.
Then the mammoth goes.
And the mammoth is going to make its way into the room here.
Let's see how I want to do this.
That mammoth is very large.
That is a big old mammoth.
That's a big old mammoth.
David Mammoth.
Would we call that a huge creature? Yeah, that is a huge mammoth. That's a big old mammoth. David Mammoth. Would we call that a huge creature?
Yeah, that is a huge mammoth.
And you can see that it resembles the mammoths from Beyond the Wall in Game of Thrones.
Oh, wow.
With parts of its skin falling off, exposed bone underneath.
So it's an undead mammoth?
I didn't say that.
Very, very intriguing.
That is interesting.
And terrifying. I think these
are descendants.
I think these statues on the wall are descendants
of Skirkotla, not ancestors.
Wow. She outlived
them all. Or outdied
them all.
It is just going to move
up behind the
frost giant.
As if the frost giant commanded it to come.
So now it goes
Feyraza as a snake, wall,
frost giant,
mammoth. We're going to round
two, and it is Baron's turn.
So Baron can kind of see around
this corner now.
So he is going to... Five.
Twenty.
That's as much as he can move.
He moves 20 feet closer and...
Shoot.
He's going to have to move...
Wow, this is really rough
because I can double move and kind of be in range.
It's rough.
Even with the length of my gun,
this wall that Farazza...
This refrigerator Farazza laid down.
Farazza, the refrigerator I'll set.
I mean, it is, the mammoth is mammoth,
so you could see,
you could hit it over the refrigerator.
Yeah, but we're talking about darkness stuff.
Okay, so I can hit, I can hit,
does that work for you, Troy,
my little blue arrow on there?
Can I shoot at that giant?
Yeah, he's going to go ahead
and get a little bonus to his AC, I believe.
Okay, I'll- Per the rules of the game. I'll deal with that. he's gonna go ahead and get a little bonus to his AC, I believe. Okay, okay. Per the rules of the game.
I'll deal with that. But, yeah,
go ahead and fire, because you're firing at Touch AC,
so it won't matter. Yep.
Here we go. Did you miss fire?
Ooh, I did not miss fire.
That is a 20 to hit against Touch AC,
so that is gonna be a hit. That's a hit, buddy.
Okay, 7 plus 13.
We're starting off with 20 points of damage,
and we get all the way up to 27 points of damage.
27 points of damage.
Beautiful.
Very good.
All right, Baron.
Luckily, we only got one Baron attack this round,
so this combat may indeed last more than three.
Feyraza, you are up, and you're a snake.
Feyraza will slither away and take off into the air.
She's a cold-hearted snake.
She don't play by rules.
What, um...
He don't read the rules.
Knowledge check could I do to see if the mammoth is undead?
Um, knowledge religion.
Don't have that.
Well, then you know nothing!
But you do see that its organs are exposed,
or what was once organs is now just an empty ribcage
and flaps of fur opening to where a heart should be.
Curious. Curious.
Quite curious.
So you can infer that.
I could infer.
With your perception check.
Okay.
Farazza then is going to...
She'll double move, and she's up in the air, but she'll start looping around this way towards the north.
It's going to be a loop.
We got a loop.
We got a loop going on here.
All right, Farazza with the loop-de-doop.
Four bears, you are up.
What do you want to do?
Do you want to get in the fracas?
Do you want to die?
Do you want to die?
You want to get in the fracas.
Do you want to die?
Do you want to die?
No.
No, Four Bears is going to... And he's going to cast a wall of fire across between the two of them.
Oh, okay.
Between the mammoth and the fire giant, or in the frost giant.
That's fair.
Nice.
So I will lay that down in a second,
but it's basically going to be right in front of the head,
basically, of the mammoth,
with the hot side pointing towards the frost giant.
So the mammoth is going to...
The mammoth will take...
My God in heaven.
We'll take 33 points of damage
Okay
And
I'm assuming he is not undead
The frost giant?
The frost giant
He appears to be very much alive
Okay
He will take
3 points of fire damage
Okay
And
Fire
Yeah, fire.
Fire. Fire damage. So you don't point,
you didn't point the hot side towards the
giant.
I pointed the hot side towards the giant.
Okay. I just rolled terribly. Okay.
But I put it on the mammoth, so he
takes damage on that round.
And there's no reflex save for a wall of fire. Correct.
He takes damage on that round as if
he went through it. Okay.
And... That's fair. And we got a wall of fire. Correct. He takes damage on that round as if he went through it. Okay. And...
That's fair.
We got a light source now.
Well, I mean, yeah, yeah.
I was also wondering, like, is it dark in here?
Yes, pitch dark.
Pitch dark.
But the frost giant seems to see fine.
The frost giant does seem to see fine.
Curious.
Yeah.
He seems to see just fine.
Okay.
And I will move...
I'm just going to move south more
into the center of the room,
get in front of...
well, near Pembroke
so that nobody can get through to him.
Okay.
All right.
Good move there.
You've blocked off the...
the mammoth will have to walk through the fire if it wants to get into the rest of the room from there.
It is Pembroke's turn.
Pembroke, you began summoning a monster, I believe.
Yes, and a monster appears.
What is this monstrosity?
Summon monsters?
Yeah, right about to the southern edge of the room, like by the wall,
appears a massive, snorting, stomping triceratops.
It's Jambo.
The celestial triceratops appears and immediately charges at the frost giant.
Beautiful.
What size creature is this?
It's huge, I think.
Well, if you'd seen Jurassic Park, Troy, you'd know exactly how big it is.
There is one. You wouldn't have to waste our time
with these questions. So he
appears and charges straight at the
frost giant. Yes. Okay.
Roll to hit. All right.
Ooh, that is
a 38 to hit.
That'll hit. There we go!
Definitely hit. Sarah tops. And let me see. That'll hit. There we go. Definitely hit.
Ceratops.
And let me see.
I love it.
Okay.
Ooh.
That is 44 points of damage.
Ooh.
Brutal.
Gross.
That is amazing.
Gross.
Now, for ending its turn there, does it take any fire damage, or does that act on the wall's turn?
It does take damage.
Asking for a friend.
Me.
I'm the friend.
Yeah, it takes damage on my turn.
Okay.
Yeah.
All right, Pembroke, it is now your turn.
All right, Pembroke.
Can I fly?
Am I flying now?
Or no?
No, you are.
Do you have darkvision?
Okay.
I can't remember if you cast fly on yourself i don't think
i did um you gave you know because you use your dimensional steps to fall yes right yeah but i
can't remember if i cast it before that but i but i will remember him flying but i can't
recall last week uh but i'll cast it now i'll cast fly on myself now okay Okay. And then I will like fly over in the
direction of
of Jambo.
Fly in the direction of
good old Jambo.
Alright.
It is Frosty's turn
here. Frosty McGee.
Looks like he's going to have to go after this
Triceratops
with his greataxe.
So, yeah, I will attack the Triceratops as opposed to incurring with power attack two attacks.
First attack, 30 to hit.
That is a hit.
All right.
So it just winds up with the old greataxe.
It's going to be gruesome.
This would have been one of you, by the way.
38 points of damage on the first hit.
And now the second one, less chance of hitting, but that should still good.
27?
That is also a hit.
That is also a hit.
Oh, no.
34 points of damage on the second attack.
Wham! Wham! With the greataxe.
It's so angry.
It's so mad.
And Jambo roars in pain and anger.
That huge, that awesome triceratops roar that we've all heard.
Jambo!
And then he will take a five-foot step.
Let's see.
He can't take it.
He can't go there right now.
That obviously went too far.
No, I pretty much can just go there.
Yeah.
Because I can't go on the wall.
No, you can just go...
Yeah, that wall is great.
So he takes a five-foot step up,
which means he's going to take more fire damage this round.
Talk to me about the mammoth,
if it wants to go through the wall of fire.
What kind of damage are we looking at here?
Last time I did this was with Dibellos in the Temple of Urgothoa.
If the mammoth goes through the wall of fire, it takes 46 plus 22 damage.
That's a lot of damage.
A lot more than I would like to take.
But.
And if it just steps back, it'll take no damage.
Right, right, right.
If it just steps back and stays out of the combat, it'll take no damage.
Exactly.
Zero damage.
Just waits out until the first frost giant's dead.
Won't go away.
It'll take no damage.
Yeah.
Is this how the Flintstones cooked dinner at that restaurant they went to?
They just put a big wall of flame up and a mammoth would walk into it?
You're thinking of a different show, Grant.
Let's see.
I don't, where Feyraza is tiny, I don't think I can do what I'd like to do with the mammal.
And the wall, uh, the mammoth, rather, and the wall prevents me from, like, going straight at forebears.
So very good, uh, crowd control here by you guys.
Um, stepping back means you're just going to kill the frost giant, and then it'll be, uh, four or five, possibly, on the mammoth.
So I think I'm going to, I'm going to take my poison and go through the wall of flame.
That seems very mammoth-like.
I think it would freak out and be like, get out of here.
But if it's undead, though.
I'll give you a little look behind the screen here.
It has no intelligence.
So it's going to go through the flame.
So roll the damage.
Going through the flame, it's going to take...
My God.
My God.
33 points of damage.
I rolled so terribly the first time that I was like, I'm definitely going to do better this time.
Same exact thing.
Dice don't work that way, unfortunately.
They do not, Matthew.
I'm tired of your cold rationalism.
About everything.
It moved. It had to double move
So I don't think
Oh man this thing comes stomping right up to
Four bears
It took a lot of damage
I just need to look at it's reach situation here
Actually I think I can get an attack off
Yes I can
I can get one attack off
On the bears? on four bears i guess because
if i rise you're a snake i don't i just don't see how it's going to try and gore you from there so
it might get scared of it and run away it might be scared oh thank uh so mammoths are that that's
their only enemy in the wild is snakes so they would have a natural fear a natural fear skid
knows a lot about animals.
I'm going to go with a gore on four bears.
It is not afraid of bears.
Gore bears.
Oh, gore bears.
That is going to be, this is going to be actually, I think this is going to be a hit.
My defense is not high.
Okay.
We're early on here.
I'm not prepared.
39 to hit.
Yes.
That is a hit, Troy.
All right.
Well, I can never be too sure. Pretty good damage. 39 to hit. Yes, that is a hit, Troy. All right. Well, I can never be too sure.
Pretty good damage.
Could be better.
21 points of regular damage.
And then you take nine points of cold damage.
That big tusk goes into you and you just feel as it comes out,
it just icy cold where this wound is now in your chest.
Your chest!
It is round three, and it is Baron's turn.
Gore Bears, no!
And he slashes out at the man with attacking his friend, getting up close and deadly on the first attack, at least.
Yep, yep.
There you go.
That's going to be a hit.
That's a 27 against too much.
27 against too much. Big old creature. Yep, little go. Ooh, that's going to be a hit. That's a 27 against too much. 27 against too much.
Big old creature.
Yep, that'll hit.
Ooh, max damage.
21 points of damage.
Okay.
Second attack is a 22 against.
22 against 10?
Oh, I forgot to roll my up close and deadly on the first one.
Oh, fool.
Additional seven points of damage.
Okay.
I did not call up close and deadly on the second attack, so I'm going to let it ride.
Ooh, minimum damage, 14 points of damage. Okay. Final attack call Up close and deadly On the second attack So I'm gonna let it ride Minimum damage
Fourteen points of damage
Okay
Final attack
Up close and deadly
On this one
There you go
Oh come on
Twenty two to hit
Yep
That'll do her
Little dab will do ya
Little dab will do
Fifteen plus
Twenty one points of damage
Nice
It does not look like
It's in great shape
This is the mammoth
You're doing this one
This is the mammoth
Yeah
Beautiful Keep behind the door And your triceratops is there so Feyraza Nice. It does not look like it's in great shape. This is the mammoth you're doing this on? This is the mammoth, yes. Yeah.
Beautiful.
He's behind the door, and your triceratops is there, so.
Fey Raza, you are up.
You are in its range right now.
Yeah.
This is, the thing is, when you go after Baron in the initiative order,
I have to formulate, like, three plans.
Yeah, yeah, exactly.
What if scenarios?
He's the worst.
There was scenario A.
But I'm going to go with scenario B.
And Farazza is going to...
It's in its...
Yeah.
Can't take a five-foot step because I'm flying.
Yeah, so Farazza's going to fly away.
Potentially provoke.
Yeah, that would technically...
I'm up on the ceiling, so
what's its... It's got 15 feet
reach. It has a 20-foot ceiling, so yeah, it could
hit me. It could hit you.
Can you roll acrobatics while you're flying?
I don't see why not.
You have a fly speed now, right?
Remember, your fly speed is 30 feet.
So I can move 15 feet.
So I'll roll acrobatics to see if I can move...
Okay.
You're just a cold flying snake.
Good roll.
Against a CMD.
Yeah.
No.
Definitely.
All right.
Is going to attempt to gore you with the other tusk.
Very bad roll.
24 to hit.
It hits.
Oh.
Well.
Wow.
Chicken and cheese.
Well, look at you.
Chicken and cheese.
That ring I gave you
Was a plus six
La de do
That's gonna be
20 points of regular damage
And then here comes
The cold
Nine points of cold
Damage
You feel that same thing
This
Four points
Four points of cold damage
Four points
Oh excuse me
Four points of cold damage
Chilly willy over there
But yes it does get off
A nice little gore
On the A-O-O
What do you got Feyros and I?
She's going to double move then
Okay so 15 becomes 30 and it is
45
Excuse me, forebear's turn
Alright this mammoth is 15 feet away
He still doesn't have his weapon in his hand yet
I don't know if I want to get into all that
He's going to
Charge directly at it Charge directly at it Jump on its back and ride it home I don't know if I want to get into all that. He's going to...
Charge directly at it.
Charge directly at it.
Jump on its back and ride it home.
Look, village, look right there.
Look, village.
Oh, jeez.
All right, yeah, you know what?
Fuck it.
He's just going to... He's going to step... Yeah, he'll step up Fuck it. He's just going to step...
Yeah, he'll step up to this guy.
He's going to step up to this guy.
Okay.
So he'll step up to the mammoth.
Okay.
And provoke.
And he's going to fight it.
Combat reflexes.
I'm sure it does not have combat reflexes.
Yeah, I gave it it.
It was my bonus speech.
It's very common among undead mammoths.
I'm surprised you didn't know as a warrior of your caliber.
They go through so much rigorous
training.
So much time sparring.
Only the best for Skirkadla.
He is going to
step up and draw his
mace and as a swift
action he's going to make it
undead Bane.
Swift undead.
Swift undead and then he will do a little,
uh,
uh,
defensive fighting.
Okay.
And he'll take a swing at this thing.
All right,
buddy,
let's see what you got.
One old swing.
You'll hit it,
right?
It's Joe.
Oh,
uh,
actually,
no,
I'm not gonna,
I'm not gonna do the defensive fighting thing.
I'm just going to go ahead and swing.
If I can get a hit.
Miss. Miss. Nope. Yeah. Miss. I mean, it's a huge creature fighting thing. I'm just going to go ahead and swing. See if I can get a hit. Miss.
Miss?
Nope.
Yeah, miss.
I mean, it's a huge creature.
What did you roll?
I rolled a 17.
That is a miss.
That's a natural two.
That's a miss on the die, is what that is.
Chicken and cheese.
Let's go on to Pembroke and what was the dinosaur's name again?
Jambo.
Jambo.
Jambo the celestial triceratops.
Took a licking from this Frosty.
What has it got to
answer back with? Well, Pembroke
is going to start off.
He is going to
cast a little spell called Chain
Lightning. Oh, the
Chain Gang. There you go.
That's better than Grease Lightning. Let's check out the reflexes
on this Mammoth.
Alright, yeah, that is a DC 22 reflex save for half.
Let's see.
The mammoth does not jump out of the way.
Shocker.
And then big old Frost Giant.
Natural 20 for the Frost Giant.
Okay.
So the mammoth takes a full 41 points of damage.
And the mammoth dies.
Oh, nice.
Thereby possibly saving Four Bear's life.
There we go.
And the giant takes half that, so he takes 20.
20, okay.
Yeah.
All right.
Pretty good.
Pretty good.
And now does Jambo want to go?
Well, Pembroke, yes, Jambo will go.
Jambo will charge at the Giants.
All right.
Now, is that wall?
No, he can charge at the...
Oh, you forgot to take the flame damage for the wall.
Yeah, I was just holding it.
Oh, yeah.
For a pause in the action.
Okay, yeah, go ahead.
All right, so real quick,
the Frost Giant takes two points of fire damage,
two ones,
and the Mammoth takes four points of fire damage. Whose team are And the mammoth takes four points of fire damage.
Whose team are you on, Joe?
I know!
It's like I'm helping them.
It's like I'm helping them.
Oh, my God.
There's a mole!
Now, I'm assuming...
He just came out of nowhere, joined the party,
said, I want to go kill time!
Then he didn't speak common and started speaking common.
Forebear sounds like a made-up name to me.
If it wants to charge, it'll have to get right up in its business,
which means it will provoke, right?
Or does the charge not provoke?
It has reach, doesn't it?
Well, it's a huge creature.
But it has to move at least 10 feet in order to charge.
That's true.
If it moves 10 feet, that puts him right next to the frost giant.
Yeah, that's fine.
I'll provoke.
Okay, so the frost giant will limply attempt,
now that his beautiful mammoth
is dead,
with a...
Has to leave power attack on,
so that was a 28.
That's a hit.
All right, so does hit
with power attack.
Dive before you even
do something!
On, and does 36 points of damage.
Okay.
And then you are right up on it,
and you can roll to attack on the
chart okay so Jambo
lowers his head with his mighty horns
and fumbles
oh
Jambo
Jambo
we hardly
knew you I know poor Jambo
can you roll to confirm
let's see probably won't confirm We hardly knew you. I know. Poor Jambo. Can you roll to confirm?
Let's see.
He probably won't confirm.
Natty 19 on the confirm. Natty.
No confirmation.
No fumble.
Yeah.
All right.
Oh, and then Pembroke is going to use the metamagic rod to cast magic missile on the
giant.
Okay.
And you don't need line and effect on that because it's magic missile, it always hits.
That's right. Although I can move into position
and see him. Sure, sure, sure. Well, you can see him because
it's a refrigerator on the ground. It's like
a couple feet tall. You can definitely see
his body. So that's 13 points of
damage. 13 points of damage, okay.
Alright, it is
the frost giant's turn, and I
could either provoke from
Jambo, or I can either provoke from Jambo, or
I can try and kill Jambo.
It's a tough call here. I really like doing
two attacks to the PCs,
but I don't have that option anymore.
Okay.
Okay.
Crap.
Crap on the stick.
Well, I'm just gonna, I'm gonna go after Jambo here.
Yeah, 32 to hit Jambo.
That's a hit.
This might be enough to kill Jambo.
41 points of damage?
Yeah, that puts him down.
Oh, Jambo!
Jambo!
Took the frosty out of Alastor.
Just barely.
So, boom!
I keep forgetting that I have augment summoning as a feat.
Oh, right!
So, like, he has extra hit points and everything else.
That's great.
But that was barely enough to put him down.
Barely enough to put him down.
And then he will just...
He'll just five foot step away from the fire.
He's ten feet away.
Is that enough to...
No, that's...
He's got to get 15 feet away.
Okay.
I do not have that option because of the refrigerator.
So he is slowly trying to move away
from the fire, and it's going to be a new round
now that the mammoth is dead. He can just move
away. You could leap over it. Oh, that's right.
You only took one attack. Yeah, okay.
So I will move 15 feet away from
four bears and 15 feet away from the
wall. He moves until he's like, ah, it's no longer
beating hot here.
It's a new round, and it is
Baron's turn. Well, you just
stepped right into the sights of
the gambler. You see how I drew him in, Grant?
I was like, you can move past that wall.
It's hittable anywhere. Joe, that was
gorgeous. Okay, that is going to
be a hit with a, they want to
know what it is, so a 21 against
Touch AC. 21 against Touch, yes!
Alright, here we go! The people want to know, Grant.
3, 8, 11, um...
26 points
of damage on the first attack. Okay.
Second attack is a
90, or actually 21 against Touch AC,
so that's a hit. Yep. That is
Boxcars, actual Boxcars.
Actual Boxcars. Boxcars.
17. 32 points
of damage on the second attack.
It is on its last legs, it looks like.
Final attack is going to be up close and deadly.
15 against Touch AC.
Yep.
Okay.
We're talking 7, 6, 7, 14, 15.
It really doesn't... 36 points of damage.
And the Frost Giant is dead.
It really does not come down to grand rolling amazingly well.
It's just that everything hits.
Yeah, you got three.
Touch AC with Giants.
Everybody hits.
He brought a gun to a sword and board fight.
Right.
Yes, yes.
Gun won.
So the-
He brought a gun to a Touch AC fight.
The undead mammoth, yes, it was undead crumbles to dust upon uh reaching zero hit points
whereas the frost giant just falls and as he falls you see that he's wearing very cool looking
goggles oh that's why he can see in darkness i love those things oh he's sam for any human um they are goggles of night
that's what i wanted for nester so bad i wanted to get those i'm sorry troy we didn't roll a
spellcraft check uh how did we know that to you how is there anything else uh no nothing else of
interest on the bodies let's check out the rest of the room. Alright, so
if you walk towards the back, you see
that the room just ends with
two more pillars, and again
one more giant
in repose.
Hmm.
Is there a check I can do on the giant?
Yeah, I don't have religion.
You can roll knowledge nobility, knowledge local if you haven't already rolled it, knowledge history.
Four barrels of roll and knowledge local on the dude.
25.
25. And it looks like there are the statues along the walls.
They look like the Frost Giants you've been fighting, but slightly dated.
And they all look related.
The ones in the back here have the same different same hair styles.
They have the same appearance as the her seer.
So they must have been former her seers, you would think.
They have that same, know uh the the helmets
with the horns coming out of it uh and they're in repose so they are the most honored among uh the
second in command can i do another history history check back here because i couldn't see these Come on, buddy. 30. 30.
Thinking to the birth date on the mountainside before you came in,
these must have all been her seers that have led the Skirkaling tribe for Skirkala in the centuries that she's ruled the tribe.
And so she's honored them.
But Baron also noticed that this room is of newer construction so it's almost as if she or someone else is only lately deciding
to honor them and they're absolutely statues not not bodies? Yeah, statues lying in state.
Huh.
Can we do a detect magic?
It's on the area.
Nope, just the goggles.
Okay.
Let's do another just perception check and see if there's any.
Yeah.
These are sarcophagi maybe on this side of the random.
31.
30.
Yeah, you don't see any sarcophagi or anything.
The only thing that seems of interest to you, it looked like this undead mammoth was meant to be a mount of some sort.
Yes, maybe they're trying to wake these guys?
And the frost giant was like its handler, relegated to this room.
You saw mammoths outside.
You used it against the camp when you guys started the mammoth stampede.
But this undead mammoth is meant to be someone's mount.
Skirkot was right.
Just imagine that.
That or one of the hersehers.
I don't know.
Now, did we get a sense?
Risen from the dead?
Have we fought an
actual mammoth we have right yeah when we found the slaves right we fought like a real mammoth
in that battle right i feel like you've fought a mammoth before do we get a sense that the undead
mammoth was stronger than a regular mammoth or in any way like why would it need to be is there
benefit to it being undead or yeah i mean it did cold damage to you, for one thing.
But yeah,
it took a lot more to take it down.
Okay.
You have all the knowledge of religion. Okay.
Nine.
Damn it, nine.
I mean, it probably has something to do with Ergothoa, right?
Perhaps.
You know, you haven't seen any
remnants of Ergothoa since you've entered here, only the temple outside.
But it does feel bolstered, certainly more so than a living mammoth.
But now it is a pile of dust and bones, and there doesn't appear to be anything of interest in this room besides descendants of possibly Skirkatla and her former herseers.
Can I just do a quick knowledge arcana just on everything to see if there's anything notable? of possibly Skirkatla and her former herseers.
Can I just do a quick knowledge arcana just on everything to see if there's anything notable?
That is a 37.
No, nothing of interest,
as if this room is just, its purpose has yet to be uncovered.
So you were checking, I'm assuming,
to see if these guys could rise from the dead?
Yeah.
Upon casting a spell.
Yeah, if there was any magic at play
in their construction or in anything.
God, I just want to know why it was built recently.
If there was a change of heart,
if it was a political thing,
or if there was, yeah, something like that.
It might have been a political alliance.
Maybe.
Jesus.
We could have asked the herse here but we killed him you do know from
the wolf whose name you never got um that she only recently like became excited and took a more active
role in leading the tribe right again um that's when they encroached upon her lands.
Right, so maybe part of that was renovating.
But why?
You don't know.
To impress the storm tyrant?
Maybe.
To, you know, let her followers know their history.
Learn your history.
You're going to be a part of the Scarecrowing tribe.
And there's no dates in the room at all on any of the statues.
No dates are etched. Nope. N do a check steve can i do a check along the the stat around the statues and along the uh outer walls uh just for secret
doors if it's a newly built thing maybe they built passages in and out that are not evident
um man 21 that's just garbage no you don't see anything and baron's gonna just walk
the perimeter of the rest of the room uh take his time and look for doors the same way yeah roll your
edge of stone cutting garbage 26 yeah nothing nothing that you see faraz is gonna take a minute
i think she's gonna want to light the body these corpses on fire okay smart move the mammoth is definitely there's not
much left to it um i mean ceremonially the herse here the herse here's oh there's statues the one
the one's lying in state you said no there's still statues i think right there's statues
they're not bodies that's what we were statues figuring out lying statues but they're so they're
they're lying down like they're statues of people lying down. Oh, so I thought they were actual bodies.
Yeah, no, no.
They're statues depicting giants lying in state on the ledge between the pillars.
So there's three of them.
And they're not.
They're not sarcophagi.
They're just statues.
Right.
Cool.
Never mind.
Right.
Interesting.
So if Gregonor was the most recent, then these are from like, maybe this one was from 100 years ago.
This one was from 200 years ago. This one was from 100 years ago this one was from 200 years
ago this one was from 300 years ago um and they hold the place and the statues are new not just
the room but the statues don't have yeah the entire construction of 100 years is new yeah
um the heresia line which shows you there there were artisans here in the camp as well, not just warriors.
Should we be extra careful and burn the body of the frost shaman we just killed, considering there's undead?
Eat it!
Why not?
All right, let's do it.
We all die of smoke inhalation.
Do we need to rest now, or do we want to keep pushing forward? I could push forward.
Obviously, we didn't take a lot of damage, but we did use some spells.
Yeah, I used a bunch of spells.
Use my...
Pardon me, my wall of fire.
I mean, I didn't end up doing too much, but we could.
Okay.
I'm fine with keeping going.
I can do one more.
Okay.
One more.
Let's do one more.
I have very little left.
I have very little useful left.
Let's rest.
It's tough with Pembroke.
It's tough to just say, like, ah, wing it.
Like, if he runs out of spuds, he's got nothing.
Nothing.
Yeah, if it's anything like that first battle.
And did you cast Fly on yourself?
I did.
Yeah, so he's already cast that, too.
Yeah.
So are we teleporting out, or do we want to make i mean we can make another push but i wouldn't be
all i wouldn't be as helpful as i was in this one that's no no i think we're gonna rest it's
a question of where we're gonna rest oh yeah uh uh honestly we could go back to our old campsite
if i would say we have to plant the spike and because i still have the teleport so i could
still do that if we're teleporting, should we just be extra careful?
Go to the contagion?
No, no.
Because then we have to use the teleport to come back.
Whereas if we teleport to camp, we can walk back over and save the teleports if we have to, like, emergency exit.
Okay.
Who's taking the goggles, by the way?
I don't know.
It's a roll-off.
It's a roll-off.
A roll-off.
Do it.
This is such a great thing to have.
Twelve. Eleven.
Yes!
I love these. I wanted them so bad.
They're like Sam Fisher, man.
This is awesome.
Oh my god, the rich get richer.
The poor stay
poorer. The Joe get
Joe-er.
So you're going to teleport out of here?
No.
Yes.
Sorry.
Okay.
Just not that.
And where?
To the camp up above the...
Yeah, the camp.
Okay.
Plant the spike.
I guess roll a D100.
Shits and gigs.
Good.
Vicious.
Shits and gigs.
S's and G's.
It makes it sound worse that way.
All right.
17. All right. 17.
All right.
I'm waiting for like 69.
69 is good.
86.
86.
All right.
So you're back there and you want to rest for the night.
Yes.
Okay.
Rest for the night.
Recover.
Re-prepare.
Okay.
All right.
So you rest for the night and then you get your HP for the night.
You get all your spells and powers back.
And then you want to go straight back to that room you were just in or the vestibule?
The vestibule.
Right?
Yeah.
Because we're going to open up another door now if there's nothing else.
We're going to walk back, right?
Yes.
Yeah.
So save on the teleport.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So as long as there's no encounters outside, particularly, it's still pretty abandoned out there.
I can't tell you that information,
but you do see that it appears to be the same type of situation.
All right, we can start walking across,
but I want to do perception checks every 10 feet in the snow.
Number one.
It's a trap.
Let me know when you roll a one.
It's a trap.
As we walk back to, I'm going to do a little hooo to our wolf friends to let them know we're going back in and finishing the job.
All right.
Be careful in there.
That's not how they talk.
So you rest up.
You come back.
Back to the vestibule.
Walk into the vestibule.
The doors remained open.
Oh, the doors remained open all through the night
interesting as if to say come on in come on in you think you're something you're nothing so can
i tell so we know that that hallway and uh leading to the mammoth slash weird former hersey's room
the the hall of fame the rock and roll hall of fame uh was new as is the
hallway we peered down but the door to the north that we were looking at the hallway you're peered
down does not appear to be new the only thing that appears to be new is that first yeah that
room you were just in there was a long hallway leading to that room but no the the hallway with
the pillars similar to the pillars in the vestibule that leads into darkness. That looks ancient. These stone doors, they just look like all the stone doors you've seen.
Got it.
So you guys want to check out the north?
Was that the plan, to clear out the doors?
Yeah.
Yeah.
All right.
Place yourself at the north doors.
Troy, I place myself in the fog of war.
Could you pull me out, buddy?
You really need your help here.
That's how Baron was defeated.
You made your decisions.
I'll tell you what happens afterwards.
Alright, so you're
all at that door.
Who's doing what and why?
I'll inspect it. Why? Listen.
I'm doing a
mirror image of myself again.
I'll do a bark skin on myself.
I'll do false life on myself mirror image
bark skin false life 31 31 perception you listen and you hear nothing nothing seems clear to me
four bears would you do the honors yes step back uh and they they open toward us like the other ones?
Yes.
Okay.
He will open the door.
He opens the door.
And this is what you see.
You see a long wall of hewn stone, a long hallway of hewn stone.
Hewn stone. But to the east
it has partially collapsed
giving way to a series
of what look like large tunnels
caked with rime
and ice that seem
to just head eastward
into darkness.
Let me show you what this looks like.
Oh wow.
Now,
it goes east and stays level
with where we are, or it goes down
or up? It just looks like the wall,
the easterly wall,
has collapsed.
And on the other side of the collapse is just
tunnels straight into
the ice of the mountain.
Wow.
Oh.
Or straight into the rock of the mountain,
but it's caked with ice because it's so cold.
So these tunnels would theoretically weave behind,
like where the,
where like the,
whatever, it's the chapel or whatever and stuff like that,
like along that northern part of the mountain? Roll the Dunge or whatever and stuff like that like along that
northern part of the mountain uh roll the dungeon earring check i don't have that i think i can do
it untrained as long as it's 10 yeah i do i have it i got a nine 19 19 19 um theoretically they
could but until you actually go into the tunnels you're not sure which direction they're going. They could go deeper north.
Right.
But theoretically, yeah, they could loop around to that section behind the mountain.
Hmm.
Or behind the chapel, rather.
Yeah.
That was up on a ledge.
So what you're telling us is that we're going to the chapel and we're going to get murdered.
John 15, 20, 25, 30, 35, 40.
All right, so everyone has darkvision now except for bears, right?
Yeah, I think I might just not.
For bears, you need to get some goggles of the night.
Yeah, yeah, I could use that.
You should get that.
Well, those of you except for bears with darkvision can see also to the left is a set of double doors.
And then about 60 feet up to the left is a set of double doors and then the um you know about 60
feet up to the left a big set of stone double doors and then the hallway continues on but of
you know sort of most interest right now are the this collapsed wall in these tunnels the
forebears is going to cast light so he'll just cast light on on his shield on his shield and that gives you 20 feet 20 foot okay
um baron will walk over he's interested in architecture and stonework in general so he's
going to go over and check out um are we grouped together they're going to check out look into
those tunnels and see if there's anything else he sees all right um so you step up
and you see the the tunnels are about any they range anywhere from about 15 to 25 feet in uh
width and up ahead you see they intersect in irregular patterns um just delving deeper into
the mountain but let me reveal a little bit more of the map.
Okay.
You see right now in front of you,
there is like two main tunnels,
one that leads up to the left
and one that leads down to the right.
Wow.
But you've got dark vision.
Yeah, I've got dark vision.
This is 60 feet from there.
And you see that they both split in two directions again.
So you've got a northerly one that goes up and splits in two directions.
And you have a southerly one that goes up and splits in two directions.
So Baron is going to, if you look at the little blue line I have on here right now, he's going to swoop a cone 60 feet like that of detect evil, detect alignment throughout here.
Just going to detect.
Yeah.
Try to see if there's any sense of presence he gets.
And he's going to shift through all the alignments if he doesn't.
Do you have dark vision or you have just low light?
I have dark vision.
You do have.
Sorry.
Let me show you a little bit more of the tunnels then.
Wow.
Because I'm not really giving you. Subtitle of this episode could be, do you have darkvision. You do have. Sorry, let me show you a little bit more of the tunnels then. Wow. Because I'm not really giving you...
Subtitle of this episode could be,
Do you have darkvision?
It's been asked about 70 times.
I need to have a little crib sheet here.
Those with darkvision.
All right, so you see what I mean?
There's two main paths.
Can I see down to the length of my darkvision like I'm pointing at now?
So you sweep down these tunnels
just detecting evil all about.
Roll a perception check.
Natural 20.
Oh.
There you go.
38.
There you go, Bear Bear.
40 for Stonecut.
Ooh.
As you stand at these tunnels
sweeping, detecting evil, you don't detect any evil, but you do hear loud sounds start coming at your direction. Like it's rock crumbling, ice crumbling around you as two enormous shapes filling the entire tunnel to both the north and the south come rushing at the entire party.
Oh, my God.
They're ice?
We'll see you next week.
Oh, man.
Oh, no.
They always wait until you're doing a perception check.
They just run right at you.
Sons of bitches!
