This week on the Glass Cannon Podcast...
We're flashing back before your guaranteed death in this next combat.
A flashback brings closure to a nagging question.
How has this not been addressed?
Troy, if you're going to lob it up, I'm going to dunk it down.
You're painting a beautiful picture.
But there is more urgent business at hand.
All of a sudden, things begin rushing at you, taking up the entire width of these tunnels.
Baron's doing the initiative dance over there.
There you go, bear, bear.
There you go, bear, bear!
It is my turn.
Oh boy.
I'm dead.
This is how I die.
Last episode, guys. I'm dead. This is how I die. Last episode, guys.
I'm dead.
The adventure continues.
You are out of your mind!
Take a picture.
Right now. Hello, hello, hello.
Welcome back.
Hope you're enjoying your drive or your flight or your private time in your headphones or your distraction from work.
I do sometimes wonder where you all listen to this whole hullabaloo.
It's Matthew, by the way.
Over here in Glass Cannon Land, we're all looking forward to session two of Strange
Aeons at PAX Unplugged.
And maybe you'll be joining us there?
Maybe?
It's on Saturday, December 1st, 9 p.m. at the Leviathan Theater in the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
The Leviathan Theater.
That doesn't inflate expectations at all.
Anyway, hope you can all make it.
If you go out to Szechuan LA, you know that nothing is off the table.
Nothing.
Well, actually, there are some things.
Definitely some things that are... Yeah, it's a good time. If you can make it, we'd there are some things. Definitely some things that are...
Yeah, it's a good time.
Just if you can make it, we'd love to see you.
Also, you may have noticed that two very schmancy t-shirts hit the merch store last week.
Two limited edition shirts celebrating fan favorites Lork Irontusk and NestorCoin.
Order yours today because a little bird told me they'll be off the market by next week.
The little bird was Troy.
Because he's trying to GM my life, too.
Anyway, here we go.
Please enjoy episode 180.
I don't know why it's taken at least three, if not four, or more episodes for me to bring this up and honestly i should not be the
one bringing this up but let's just flash back in time to this rest before you came back into this
into this uh tomb uh before you walked into this room with a collapsed wall leading to tunnels that Baron was checking out.
Let's just flash back to that rest.
Did anyone
during that eight hours
go up to forebears and be like,
bro, you speak common?
How has
this not been addressed?
Yeah, I thought
we talked about that. I swore
I thought we addressed it.
But it was during a battle.
Right, right.
So it was just one of those things where it's like, well, Joe speaks English.
Right.
Poorly.
To a certain extent.
So we're all kind of used to that.
Right.
Yeah.
I guess it had been a while.
I think it's just one of those things that just kind of got lost in the mix there's a lot going on because it's like you know it's so often it's like he's
he's talking character he's not right right like you know it's just i think it just got lost in
the mix i for my for my money i thought it was it was such a roundly rejected story item and joe
was so universally mocked for it on this on the I don't know. What do you mean mocked for it? I just assumed that he was quietly retconning it
and I shouldn't talk about it.
That's what I was hearing about.
We would never do that.
Wait, I was getting shit because he speaks Shawanti?
Don't even go down that road there.
But yeah, no, there was some people that didn't care for it.
Did he speak Shawanti?
I think there were some people that didn't care for it. Did he speak Shawati? I think there were some people that
didn't care for you, couldn't communicate
with the party. So I think a lot of people
think you just started speaking common
to make everybody happy.
But that's just not the truth. No, that's not the truth at all.
No, but no one... No, I sat down
across from Baron and I said,
and he says, in common.
And I said it to you and nobody said
anything. I was like like i'm not gonna
force my story idea i wedge it in there did you do that during a combat though no it was a camp
when you were like talking about your beard and i think i even say you lost a couple of the rings
or something i think i said and you said that in common to baron and you were like yep and we just
moved i just assumed it was a message directly to the haters.
Like, yeah, he speaks common, right?
Get off my back. But wait, but wait.
I didn't even know there were haters.
It's the first I'm hearing of this. But wait, it's also
an inherently ridiculous thing
that people gloss over is that like
you level up, you take a point in linguistics, you get
a new language. So it's like all of a sudden
you're completely fluent overnight after
an eight hour rest. You're completely fluent in a new language like you're in the matrix or something
i know kung fu yeah so it's like it's silly anyway so like i don't know why we would have
necessarily you're not wrong there's no well there was a lot going on there was a lot going on
going on well so let's say during this rest one of you is like he didn't speak common
he totally spoke common
to me does anyone address this Baron I feel
like the floor is yours here we're
flashing back before your
guaranteed death in this next
combat Baron probably has a little bit of whiskey
and as in his evening
tea he's drinking an herbal
tea because it's you know doesn't want the caffeine
sure got
to get some camp sounds going i wasn't ready ready for this he uh is uh waiting for feroza
to finish the flint and tinder to burn a fallen tree we did not chop one down this was a druid
friendly tree burning uh happening here we do everything green pea style troy if you're gonna
lob it up i'm gonna dunk it down you're going to lob it up, I'm going to dunk it down.
You're painting a beautiful picture.
Leave no trace.
That's the Druid way.
I see Pembroke doing like evening.
Carry in, carry out.
Carry in, carry out.
Pembroke can disagree with us, but I see him doing like evening Tai Chi to stay limber
and still be able to move at his advanced age.
Maybe just some sort of stretching or calisthenics.
Nope. Nope.
Nope.
Perfect.
I know Tai Chi.
Yeah, nope.
Skin, what did they tell you in improv class?
No buts.
No, but that's a bad idea.
No, but please don't say anything again.
Baron kind of looks over the top of his mug,
which is the only source of warmth he has
outside of his coat,
narrows his eyes at four bears and says,
When did you learn to speak common, my friend?
I've known it for a long time, Baron.
Why were you so reticent to use it in the past?
I do not trust many that speak the common tongue.
Looking at you, kind of the firelight coming up from underneath, shading the top of his face.
Also, I love the tongue of my people.
Also, I love the tongue of my people.
When my grandmother spoke, it was like listening to music.
And I never want to stop speaking her language.
I'm afraid I'll forget it.
But when I first moved to the outskirts of Skelt. It was the only place I could go to get the supplies I needed
to survive alone in the wild.
I could do some trapping,
but I couldn't take care of all the needs,
and so I was forced to trade
and deal with those people.
When I was among those dwarves and humans,
I was hesitant to speak their language,
for those that thought I only spoke Shawanti
would say aloud the things that they would otherwise only whisper.
And they said cruel things about me, Baron.
About my family.
So I vow not to speak to them.
But you, none of you, have said anything you would not want me to hear.
And our work to disband this camp has brought
me great joy. For the first time in many years, your help has brought me closer to the Lashakha,
the revenge I seek. And I thank you in your tongue, and humbly ask you to continue with me to hunt them all down and destroy their armies.
I hope you got a kick out of the sign language I tried to get through to you with.
You understood the whole time.
You make me run it all through this guy Pembroke over here.
That's crazy.
I am deeply sorry, Baron.
He's smiling.
If you feel deceived
at all no it's fine i feel uh like the dwarven people have gone a little bit of the other way
our uh focus on commerce as one of the main ways we make our our living is uh made me a little bit
rusty on my dwarven it's something i don't speak as much as I do,
but I think it is wise to embrace the way of your people
and their culture and language.
And I think it is unwise to speak ill of those you know nothing about.
I am very careful about what I say around anyone,
for the things that I have heard said in my presence are so hateful.
People are...
Well, let's just say you all are a remarkable exception,
and I'm very lucky to have found you.
You're a little intimidating to be around as a quiet presence.
I can see why maybe some of them may have said some things out of fear of being around you.
He stands up quickly and leans over the firelight and says,
What did you say?
And then he laughs.
And then he laughs.
And sits back down.
Well, this will certainly help our battle tactics out quite a bit,
so I'm glad that we can finally be on the same page at all times, buddy.
Yes, it was that moment.
That was it, Baron.
That moment you charged past me before I could grab your duster and ran out onto the ice.
And I was like, no!
But I had foolishly not spoken in your language prior.
I wish you had before then.
That resmeraz or whatever the hell it was, was a fearsome sight.
Yes, but you were protected by the spirit of my people.
I felt it course through my veins.
And they will look out for you as long as I say so.
So let us get some rest.
Return to that vestibule.
And take out this skirkodla and all of her minions.
I got a word or two for her when I see her.
I'll tell you that.
I'd like to hear that.
Barrett's asleep.
Barrett, are you asleep?
Barrett, Barrett, Barrett.
Too much whiskey.
He was just like Pounding whiskey
The whole time
He was like
I'm trying to say
Something serious here
Would you take a break?
And now we all die
It sounded like he said
They said cool things about me
He said cruel
I know
that's what I thought too
are you making fun
of his accent
he said cruel things
about me
they were like
that guy's got great
tats
I like his jacket
where do you get
those shoes
where do you get
those moccasins
is that members only
alright pretty cool I would love to see the fan out of four bearers and a members only? All right. Pretty cool.
I would love to see the fan
out of a four bearers
and a members only jacket.
All right.
So now you're back
in this horrible room.
These tunnels bored
straight through the rock itself,
caked with rime and ice
just from the cold of the mountain
or maybe the supernatural cold of this tomb.
And just as Baron is sweeping through alignments, is there any evil creatures there?
No, there isn't.
All of a sudden, things begin rushing at you, taking up the entire width of these tunnels,
which I said were 15 to 25 feet wide.
Wow.
These long creatures start running at you.
And I kept asking you to describe what they look like, and you wouldn't tell me.
I still have no image of what you're saying.
They're long.
They fill the whole tunnels.
I thought they were like worms.
They're ice, right?
They're ice.
The tunnels are caked with
ice. Okay. They're bored through the
stone and then caked with
ice all around it. Okay.
But you'll see pretty soon
what they look like. A frost worm?
Maybe not as soon as you think.
Let's just roll for initiative.
Not as soon as we think. Let's just start with
the initiative and see where everybody's at.
Baron's doing the initiative dance over there.
There you go, bear, bear.
There you go, bear, bear.
Baron needs to roll, like, what, an eight on the die to do the initiative dance?
Roll with the roll with the roll.
Bear, what do you have?
Roll for the initiative.
30.
30 for Baron.
All right.
What do we got?
Feyraza.
22.
22 for Feyraza.
Not bad.
Four bears.
14.
14.
Terrible. Pembroke. 13. 13. 22 for Faye Raza. Not bad. Four Bears. 14. 14. Terrible. Pembroke.
13. 13. Not great either.
He's a terrible. He said
one less to me. I thought you were going to say, not bad.
I'm like, what the hell, man?
The hallway you just walked up,
the doors that you entered from the
vestibule area into here, all of a
sudden you just hear
shut behind you. Oh no.
What?
Keeping you in this tunnel
and you think to yourself
maybe we shouldn't have left and rested.
Now they know.
Yeah.
And you are trapped here. Well, no, we
had to rest. You did have to rest.
We could also teleport out.
I mean, trapped is a relative term.
Unless there is an anti-magic field now, Matthew.
Don't be presumptuous.
All right.
Unless there is suddenly a narrative crutch field.
Is that DC 24 for narrative crutch field. Is that DC-24 for narrative crutch?
18, DC-18.
I used to get, I bought my plasma screen TV from Crutchfield.
Oh, really?
Yeah, their electronic store based in Montana.
Yeah.
Really good customer service.
Random facts with skin.
I know, I was trying to think of the name of that store for the last couple
days, and you actually just said it.
What? I was. I was trying to think
of the name of that store. I was like, what's the name of that store?
And you actually just said it. Crutchfield
Bottle Cap.
Player to player
Bottle Cap. He said he wanted to give out more Bottle Caps.
I think that gets me.
I think that deserves a Bottle Cap.
Player to player Bottle Cap.
I have no cash value.
I like this idea.
How can we use the P2P bottle caps?
I don't know.
You start by giving me one.
You turn it in to roll twice and take the better result on a roll-off.
That's what I was just thinking.
That's kind of funny.
Hey, Matthew, you get a bottle cap.
You roll off it, you get a bottle cap.
Matthew, you get a bottle cap.
We're going to roll up and you get a bottle cap.
We're going to start giving these out left and right.
It's going to be great.
I'm going to turn in eight bottle caps on this roll up against Joe.
They're basically like cryptocurrency.
They are theoretically very valuable.
They're kind of like a side market.
I love it. All right, it is round one.
It is Baron's turn.
Baron, what do you got?
Baron, you're looking into dark tunnels,
and you hear noises.
You see nothing.
What do you do?
Oh, my God.
It's rough because my metagaming mind says that these things are going to grab us and pull us down the tunnel,
so I don't want to dive into a tunnel right now.
Oh, that's terrifying.
Quiet that mind.
I'm going to cast down a Judgment of Sacred Protection plus one on myself.
Okay, with that AC boost.
AC boost.
You need it.
Oh, Jesus.
boost? You need it.
Oh, Jesus.
And then I'm going to cast frickin'
long shot on myself.
Why not? Ooh, a little long shot.
50 feet of range for
Bear Bear. And he's gonna step
up here
and try to perceive a little bit further
down. I should say all the rock part there,
if your square has rock in it, it is difficult terrain.
So I'm going to stand.
That's me.
Oh, sorry, so much.
You're going to move Ferrazza directly in the line of fire.
I'm going to stand off of the difficult.
Throw her in between me and the enemy.
Help me, Grant.
Ferrazza, go.
I'm going to stand off of the difficult terrain, and I should be able to see to the edge of my blue cursor right now. Yes, Grant. Where does it go? I'm going to stand off of the difficult terrain,
and I should be able to see to the edge of my blue cursor right now.
Yes, yes.
It is just more tunnel.
Okay.
I don't have the map for it.
Okay.
But it is just more tunnel that looks exactly like that.
Wow.
I thought you were being all cagey and not revealing it for some actual reason.
Is this the actual edge of the map we're looking at?
Technically, not really.
I'll explain it to those of you who survived the combat.
It's going to be whack-a-mole.
I can already feel it.
It is my turn.
Oh, boy.
What you feel is a blast of cold.
You might even want to call it a cone of cold.
If I close my eyes, I can almost feel it. Right now.
Right now in our freezing studio.
Our freezing cold studio.
We haven't turned the heat on yet.
From the north corridor,
a cone of coal
just extends out and just whips
covering all of you. Roll a reflex
save. Oh.
I don't want to.
Natty 19.
There you go, bud. 25. 25. I don't want to. Natty, 19. Natty, 19.
There you go, bud.
25.
25.
All right.
Joseph?
17.
Oh, dear.
So I have a 25 and a 17.
Grant?
24.
Okay.
That's two fails.
Pembroke?
19.
Three fails.
Oh, no. This is ludicrous. Pembroke? 19. Three fails. Oh.
This is ludicrous.
I am 11th level, and my base reflex save is plus three.
Wait, Baron. Wow.
I'm sorry, Baron.
You said 24?
I did.
All right, so you and Feyraza pass.
I have a crack on my iPad.
I thought it was higher.
Those of you who didn't pass take 58 points
of cold damage.
58? Would have been so fine
if I just
rolled a better initiative. Those of you who do
pass take
28 points, excuse me,
29 points of cold damage.
Oh, man.
As just a cone
of cold comes whipping out of some large,
maybe even huge creature's mouth.
I don't approve of that.
Yeah, I mean, I can't see.
There's no creature.
There are so many lines of effect blocking us.
I don't know how that's possible.
Why don't I put one of the creatures?
That's right, one of the creatures in the frame here.
I wanted to save it for a good moment.
It looks like that.
Oh, dear.
It is a worm.
It is a huge frost worm.
Is that where it actually is in melee combat with me?
Yes.
Oh, okay.
Yeah, it comes right up to your business.
Oh.
Oh, wow.
Yeah, it comes right rushing down the tunnel, moves right up to there.
Wow.
That's no fun.
Oh, dear.
Down the other corridor, the one to the north, you just hear this...
This trill.
It's the beetle spies.
Echo all the way down the cavern. Everybody roll a will save.
Alright.
Oh, fuck
God. 27.
Okay, pass. Fail. 12.
Fail. Fail. What'd you roll, Joe?
12. Fail. Baron? 18.
DC 18.
Yeah. So, again,
Baron and Feyraza are fine.
Meanwhile, this shrill sound, this trill coming from the other tunnel
leaves Pembroke and Four Bears completely fascinated.
Oh, wait, hold on.
So wait, this is a wall of rubble?
No, it's all crumbled to the floor.
It's just difficult terrain.
The wall collapsed.
Cool.
So you are both fascinated.
And it is now Feyraza's turn,
followed by the two fascinated creatures.
Do you want me to read fascinated or joke?
I see you looking at the conditions there.
Yeah, a fascinated creature is entranced by a
supernatural or spell effect. It
stands or sits quietly taking no
action other than paying attention.
It takes a minus four penalty on
skill checks. Why would you do a skill check
if you could take no actions?
Made in reactions. Such as perception
checks. Any potential threat such as
a hostile creature approaching, allows
the fascinated creature a new saving
throw against the fascinating effect.
Any obvious threat, such as someone drawing a
weapon, casting a spell, or aiming a ranged weapon
automatically breaks the effect.
A fascinated creature
ally may shake it free
of the spell as a standard action.
Wow. So, yeah, I didn't think fascinated
was that bad. In combat, it doesn't really work.
Yeah, it's something that bards can do that you just never use.
Right.
You use it to, like, sneak by a guard.
Yeah.
You don't use it to not in combat.
I wouldn't have had the first one do it, but having the second one do it takes you
guys out of the round.
Right.
Depending on the actions.
Feyraza Alced, what do you do?
Right.
Feyraza is going to
she can't take a five foot step because she's on
difficult terrain so she's going to just move
and incur an attack of opportunity from
the worm. From the horrible frost
worm. Alright, well, I'll take power attack
off because... By the way, was that
that was cold damage, that cone of cold, right?
That was cold damage, yes. So I get five
points back. Well, you know what?
You earned it.
Thank you.
But it does go
to attempt to bite you.
I feel like I got
a natural 20 coming.
I don't.
29.
Yeah.
Oh, Matthew.
Yeah.
Oh, Matthew.
Yeah.
You take 39 points of damage.
Oh, these things are nasty.
Plus.
Oh, boy.
Some cold damage.
Oh, boy.
Plus 15 points of cold damage. 10 points of cold damage. Oh boy. Plus 15
points of cold damage. 10 points of cold damage.
Shut up. Faraz is
in pretty terrible
shape, but she is going to
head back over here and she's going
to cast a new spell
that I found called
Obsidian Flow. Oh!
Is it third party?
I was going to say, what third party did you find that one in?
It is not third party.
It's from Ultimate Combat.
It was written by one of your friends at Juilliard!
That's actually what we do.
We just sit in a room.
On actual typewriters, we just write out spells for Pathfinder.
Crimson Eye of Cerebus!
So this converts a thin layer of the ground to molten glass that cools quickly.
Creatures in the area take 1d6 points of fire damage for two caster levels and become entangled.
Any creature in the area that makes a successful reflex save takes half damage and is not entangled.
Okay.
Basically, I can get all of the tunnels.
All right, so you're trying to fill the tunnels with this glass.
Yeah, the floor of all the tunnels suddenly becomes hot lava.
Hot lava, and you're sure you have the space
with which to do it, yes?
Yeah, it's a 20-foot burst,
but I can cast it from 55 feet away.
All right, so there are two of these creatures
that you can see.
They are both within your range,
assuming the burst is correct,
and it won't catch any of your friends.
Nope.
All right, so reflex saves?
Reflex saves.
All right, the one up top, the one that you can see,
oh, it's sitting on a 19, and it is a fail.
Okay.
I'm assuming, yeah, 16.
And then the one you can't see succeeds.
Okay.
So they both take damage.
I'll tell you how much in a minute.
Okay.
Is the other one visible on our screen?
You just haven't put it there yet?
No, it's not a minute. Okay. Is the other one visible on our screen? You just haven't put it there yet? No, it's not visible yet.
Okay. Okay, so the one
that failed takes 23 points of
damage and is entangled.
Fire damage? It is fire
damage. Okay.
And it's entangled. And it's entangled.
Yes. Okay. Very important.
Was that the one that hit me? Yes.
And then the other one just takes 11 points of damage and is not entangled.
Fire damage.
Fire damage.
Okay.
Now, if you want to move, it's difficult terrain, and the DC of the acrobatics checks within the area increases by 5.
Okay.
So if you want to move, you have to roll acrobatics.
All right.
That's fair.
I'll allow it.
And if you fail on that check, you fall prone
and take 1d6 points of damage
from the sharp obsidian. Alright, remind
me if and when I move.
Alright, now
it goes to four bears in Pembroke. Fun spell,
right? It is fun. Obsidian flow.
It goes four bears in Pembroke,
but you're both fascinated. I'm in real
trouble, by the way. If I get it one more time,
there's every chance I'd be dead forever.
Oh, no.
Just heads up.
Yeah, I just don't like...
Yeah, I'm in that spot, too.
So there's nothing we can do.
Like, this thing...
Like, fascinated doesn't cover
when you're threatened by a giant worm creature.
It attacks your ally right next to you.
That happened first.
Then the second thing that happened was the fascination.
No, no, no.
The cone of cold, then fascination, then it attacked Feyraza right next to us.
Oh, on the attack of opportunity.
Yeah, should we get a save then?
So do we get a new save just like on our turn?
Do we get a save?
I think you get...
Let me check.
I mean, it does say like attacking you.
Any potential threat such as a hostile creature approaching,
allows the fascinating creature a new saving throw.
I feel like seeing someone else.
But it's hostile and it's biased.
My point was that merely approaching would cause a new saving throw.
It biting me for 80 points of damage would probably be considered hostile. It did almost kill her, but it didn't come any closer to do it.
So, let's just see how this plays out.
Let's just see how this plays out.
Let's not race any justice.
I mean, the one thing I could see.
Let's not overreact.
One thing I could see is, like, we seem to be fascinated from the other hallway.
So maybe it's, like, out of our peripheral vision.
We didn't see it attack Feyreza.
I don't know.
That's the only argument I could see for not wanting a new savior.
I cry out with intense pain.
Right, right, right, right.
It immediately breaks the spell.
Yeah, no, this is a good point.
Any potential threat such as...
Such as...
Right.
I think the point is just that it is not a combat spell.
It is not for combat.
Yeah, it isn't.
It says even if someone draws a weapon, it breaks it.
You're not going to save, it breaks it.
Had I not taken the attack of opportunity, there's no argument.
I'm not letting you do it.
But the attack of opportunity does allow you.
But it's already attacked.
We know that it's hostile.
Right, but I'm saying on its next attack, it breaks you out of the fascination.
But it just standing there
But in the presence of a creature that's trying to kill us
I understand your argument
I just think there's an argument to be made my way as well
But I'm allowing the save, so that's all that matters
So you do have a chance
So if I pass the save, can I act this round?
Yes, so we'll go back to forbearance, roll your save
We'll save, come on
Shit!
Shit!
Didn't you say it was DC 18?
It is.
17!
Oh, no.
All right, so Pembroke, you can...
I failed two!
God damn it!
No!
I rolled a one and a two on both my saves.
I rolled a three and an eight.
God!
This is bad business.
No, no, no.
This is so bad.
Because, I mean, it's not just about taking the hit point damage and dying.
It's also about, like, not being able to defend yourself, not being able to do any action to help.
I mean, what are people sitting there for hit points here?
I have 15 hit points.
I'm at 28.
Oh, my God.
I have 92.
Were you so surprised that you were reading the numbers?
I mean, 58 points of damage.
I mean, that's just vicious.
Well, I mean, go back to my campaign
long, long ago.
Kona Cold killed a character.
That spell, was it 12d6
or something? 15d6.
15d6. Oh my god. It was so
brutal. What is this, Warhammer?
I have hit points to maybe
last another round.
For sure. I mean, there's two of these.
One more Kona Cold kills Feyrozz and Pembroke if
they fail their reflex save.
If I pass my reflex save, I'll die.
Permadeath. Yeah, this is
bad business.
Well, it's Baron's turn.
Just throwing this out there, Baron.
The fate of your character's
lives may, your friend's lives may depend
on it. And if Pembroke dies,
we can't teleport out of here.
Right.
We're all dead.
Party white.
Well, I feel in my little hand a critical coming out.
A critical threat, at least.
Can I throw something at you?
Please.
The one that fired the cone of cold is not the one you need to be worried about.
I mean, it is.
It's the one that can attack you multiple attacks
if it has it on the next round.
But it's the other one that would have a cone of cold
that would kill Feyros and Pembroke.
But we can't see it.
I know.
I'm not going to run down the hallway.
I know.
I'm letting you know what the situation is.
No, I know.
He's giving you a shot at avoiding a TPK.
But what am I supposed to do about it?
Nothing.
I really just want to let you know.
You're supposed to die saving Pembroke.
That's enough.
Do what you were going to do.
All right.
I'm going to try to kill the one that I can see.
I'm going to control what I can control.
I like it.
Because I'm going to be three shots off instead of one.
That's going to be better.
Here we go.
Roll once.
Critical threat.
Here we come.
Oh, four.
So that is a 16 against touch ac 16 against touch
still hits all right uh 15 points of damage i'm so nervous second attack is gonna get up
close and deadly okay that's a hit as well uh 25 points of damage. Question. Yes.
You are firing within its range, yes?
Yes.
Yeah.
And if it has combat reflexes, for example.
Oh, it does.
Oh, I should have taken a five-foot step back.
It would have given an attack opportunity.
You can't.
Oh, I thought I was on the other side of it.
So give me the damage for the second shot.
Actually, you can't.
25.
25. And then just hold off on me the damage for the second shot. Actually, you... No, you can't. 25. 25.
And then just hold off on that third shot for just one second.
I'm going to go ahead and take an attack of opportunity against...
Come on, miss.
Fumble.
91.
91.
I feel like there's a 20 coming.
I feel like it's coming.
Natty 19.
For a total?
For a total of...
Oh, you want to know the total?
Stop it, man.
44.
That'll do it.
This is...
We're dead.
This is...
Let's roll first the regular damage.
We might need to do it.
You know what?
44 points of regular damage.
Uh-huh.
And then cold damage is going to be a measly 13 points of cold damage.
This is fun. We might need to get out measly 13 points of cold damage. This is fun.
We might need to get out of here.
How much cold damage?
44 and 13 cold.
Oh, wow.
Yeah.
Now you get your final shot, followed by the worms.
The worms.
The worms.
Another, well, let's say.
It was a misfire.
11 against touch, AC.
Joe would have left.
11 against touch.
Hits exactly.
Yes.
Dude.
Take it out.
That is a Joe quality damage roll.
That is 17 points of damage.
Hey, hey.
That's four bears.
You watch your mouth.
You leave me out of this.
17 points.
Oh, man. Don't try to hide behind your character. I know. You leave me out of this. 17 points. Oh, man.
Don't try to hide behind your character.
I know.
Was that shameful?
Damn it.
Twas.
Twas.
Wow.
Well, this is really going to separate the men from the boys here.
Is that what it's going to do?
Let's start with the frost worm that we can see.
We're just excited to start a new adventure.
Which is the one?
Yeah, I know.
Which is the one that failed?
Connor Cold would kill me, too, by the way.
Mummy's Mask?
No, the one that you can save.
So it could not have taken its attack opportunity against Baron, right?
Or could it have?
It was entangled.
Reflexes.
Combat reflexes.
It wasn't grappled.
It was entangled.
You can't.
Grappled, you can't take an AOL.
Entangled, you can.
Entangled just gives you a penalty to your dex and stuff like that.
But you rolled a 44, so presumably you hit regardless.
It's going to go ahead and attack Baron.
Oh, God.
With a bite.
Oh, boy.
You know what?
I'll leave power attack off.
It's been doing well for me so far.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, that's going to hit.
That's a 40.
Yep.
That's a hit.
All right, let's roll the regular damage first. Yep. That's a hit. Alright, let's roll the regular damage first.
Okay.
I feel like I'm
taking crazy pills.
These guys are insanely
powerful.
I mean...
39 points of regular damage.
Oh my god. How much?
39 points of regular damage.
I have 5 hit points left.
This is round 2. Here points of regular damage. I have five hit points left. This is round two.
Here comes the cold damage.
Four D6 worth of cold.
Oh, God.
Oh, no.
Could kill you.
Can I just say before you kill him that my first action was, if I could have just gotten my round off, was to cast resist energy cold on Baron.
He's right in front of me.
It prevents 30 points of damage.
Oh, yeah.
30 points of damage.
Oh, my God.
That fascination was huge.
That would have been great.
So two failed will saves in a row.
Yeah.
You take 12 points of damage.
Oh, my God.
Okay.
So you're still alive.
I'm still alive.
But you're down.
But I have very few rounds left.
You're down.
Baron falls.
He currently has eight rounds left to live.
Eight rounds, huh?
I don't think you'll need all eight of those.
Grant, I already forgot your name.
You will be healed long before that.
And back in the fight, Grant.
It is the second worm's turn.
Wait, really?
Yes.
It goes worm one followed by worm two.
Now, Matthew, tell me about this spell again in terms of the difficult terrain
because this actually may save at least one of your lives.
So, yes, it is difficult terrain.
All the tunnels within the radius.
And I'm taking damage as I'm moving?
No.
I take damage on the initial fail of the save or whatever.
And if you were to fall, you would take damage from hitting the sharp obsidian.
Probably not going to fall.
I'm feeling the entire time.
You don't have legs, so I don't think that's really a concern.
See, now the first slithering along the ground.
Well, if you were to fall.
Maybe it takes non-lethal damage because it's a slither across that sharp...
No, no. Sometimes you see snakes where their head's
way high above their body as they go across
the sand, so maybe knocked over a rock.
I think it says if you're slithering along and it's double
damage. Grant, you're in remarkably
high spirits.
Well, here's the thing.
Here's the thing. So, because of this,
I can only move half speed.
Which doesn't allow me to get off a cone in a way that's gonna all it's gonna do it's a wasted cone it'll hit baron i
don't even think it can hit four bears they can't hit four bears if it's coming from that tunnel
see where it comes straight out here let me put the worm on the map that's as far as that worm
can get uh it can hit baron And trust me, I'm not trying to
save your life here, but I mean, it's just a waste.
I want to hit everybody and kill
75% of you.
Because breath weapons are also like that 1d4
usually, right? So it might be a long time
until you can use it again.
Or it might be one of those things you can use x times per day.
Don't read too much of the Frost Worms.
Knowledge Frost Worms.
Stop it!
So, I think.
This is a bad situation.
Yeah, that spell you cast, Matthew, it may buy you a round, which might be all you need.
I mean, that was huge.
If that prevents a cone of cold, that's enormous.
Well, it's just, yeah, the cone.
I think it's going to concentrate on trilling.
I think it's going to concentrate on trilling.
My thought going into this is that one would try to fascinate while the other one laid out devastation.
Trust me.
That's what happened.
Once I can get up there,
I'm one move away from being able to Kona Cold all of you.
Now you might move.
But is this how fascinate works?
Is it like you fascinate around,
and then his other creature threatens,
and it breaks us out of it,
and then he fascinates around, and then he threatens and breaks us out of it? It works like fascinate around, and then his other creature threatens, and it breaks us out of it, and then he fascinates around, and then he threatens and breaks us out of it?
It works like fascinate, but creatures must succeed in a DC 18 will saver.
Be fascinated for as long as the worm continues to trill.
The frost worm can maintain this trill by concentrating.
Once you've resisted or broken the effect, you can't be affected by that same frost worm's trill for 24 hours.
It's a sonic mind-affecting effect.
I've already failed it twice,
so apparently I'm really fascinated
with this freaking worm.
It's a great song, bro.
Seriously.
By now, you totally can make those says for sure.
It's just, it's using,
it's concentrating to try and lock you in
so that it's button can kill.
So we have to keep rolling.
Yeah.
So that is what I'm going to do.
I am not going to just kill Baron with a cone of cold
as much as I would like to.
I want to kill all of you.
The worm wouldn't do that anyway.
Right, it doesn't make sense.
Because as far as it knows, this guy's dead.
So it's just like, I'm going to make sure.
Right, and while the worm is not...
And I'm going to use my 60 in front of it.
Right, right.
I'm going to use one of my best powers.
I'm going to launch a thermonuclear device.
At an already dead guy.
At this guy, yeah.
He might just be sleeping.
I'm going to nuke him, just to be sure.
It's the only way to be sure.
It's the only way to be sure.
While it lacks intelligence, it is extremely wise.
It is wiser than probably three-quarters of this party.
Not Feywaz.
No one's wiser than Feywaz.
No, that's why I said three quarters.
So knowing that, it wouldn't do that.
It can't see you if it don't move.
So yeah.
I'm unconscious.
I'm going to concentrate for this round on trilling.
Say your prayers and eat your vitamins.
It is Feyraza's turn here.
So do we have to roll another save?
Or do we just do it on our turn?
See if we act.
You've already succeeded.
You and Baron, Feyraz, have succeeded.
So you are, if this is Pathfinder
playtest, you are bolstered against this worm
trill. Oh, cool. But
Pembroke and Four Bears are
still under the effects.
But we get a fresh save at the start of our turn.
Of our turn. Okay. And if we make it, we...
I could also...
I'm sorry, I'm just realizing that this is really, really, really bad.
This could be a TPK.
We say it a lot.
If I roll a natural one, or whatever, I don't even have to roll a natural one.
If I roll a five or lower, I don't act again in another round with these things closing on us.
Joe, what's that behind you?
It's the debut of the brand new bottle cap system.
Well, fair.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
You get that plus five.
We each took one, right?
Mm-hmm.
Yeah, everyone has settled on that.
Everyone has one.
Everyone has one.
We each have one.
I'm going to give mine.
They stack, so you get plus ten.
No better time to use it.
That's right, Troy.
No stacking.
No stacking.
Well, it is.
No whammies.
First of all, it's FeyRoz's turn.
FeyRoz, you can hold.
You can take an action.
I mean, I don't know.
Yeah.
What do you hold?
How many hit points do you have?
I have 28 hit points.
Jesus.
So if it gets off that cone of coal, I'm dead.
Let's see, 5, 10, 15.
I mean, depending on where you move, it can get you.
That's true.
Yeah.
It can get you.
So I could...
Oh, God.
Can it be a high cone of cold that doesn't touch unconscious bodies?
That cone just nicks.
It's three feet above the ground.
Dead parrot.
Unbelievable.
How lucky.
How lucky.
Only in Pathfinder.
He stabilizes, wakes up six hours later to three dead bodies.
The worms are gone. He's just like, oh, I lucked hours later to three dead bodies. The worms are gone.
He's just like, oh, I lucked out there.
I am shocked.
You could have used that pocket dimension, and then you would be fine,
but unfortunately you're unconscious.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
No, I really should have, actually.
That was the time to use it.
Oh, well.
I'm shocked at how poorly this is going.
Oh, man.
What a huge mistake.
Thank you, man.
I just don't understand it. I mean, this is a. Oh, man. What a huge mistake. Thank you, Matthew. I just don't understand it.
I mean, this is like a...
This is a boss-level fight.
No, it's just...
This is a party unequipped
to deal with magical creatures.
All right, well...
You don't need to get nasty about it.
This is a party that mows down humanoids
like it's a joke,
but when confronted with a magical creature, see the Borrello.
See, you know, every dragon you've fought.
Like, it just...
I mean, I disagree, but I understand what you're saying.
You know, if it's giant Bane pistol versus whatever.
But, like, it's a cone of coal.
Like, there's really not much you can do about it.
A cone of coal is a cone of coal.
It's a massive amount of death.
The funny thing about this is, with Hero Lab's latest updates,
there's just like a big red tab.
And I know you hate those, Joe.
You hate it when there's something red because that means something's wrong with your character.
Oh, my God.
I hate it right here.
And you know what it is?
It's Four Bears is taller than normal for his race.
I have to keep dealing with this.
And I'm like, it's my story.
Let me tell my story.
Mine is just like my Hero Lab is just mocking me like,
why aren't you using your Bane Baldrick to provide Bane to a weapon of your choice? Why? Let me tell my story! Mine is just like, my hero lab is just mocking me like,
why aren't you using your Bane Baldrick to provide Bane to a weapon of your choice?
Why?
You have fifth level Bane ability.
Why?
I mean, all right, I'm going to talk this out.
Yeah, what are you going to do?
Talk to us, Feyraza.
So I could cast some offensive spells,
but I feel like that just leaves Pembroke and Baron, for that matter, really exposed.
So I could heal Pembroke. I could give Pembroke and Baron, for that matter, really exposed. So I could heal Pembroke.
I could give Pembroke protection from energy.
You could shake him out of his state.
I could shake him away. Here's the thing.
Like, Pembroke at least has to go.
Like, he has to leave.
I, like, I will, if I'm hit by anything, and I almost certainly will be, I will die forever.
So, I mean.
I mean, I think we're all kind of, if Baron gets hit.
Baron, you're a negative.
Yeah, if Baron takes any AOE damage as he's down, he will absolutely die.
If that gets a cone of coal off.
You're almost dead.
If it gets a cone of coal off, I'm definitely dead.
If one more cone of coal. Four bears is almost dead. If it gets a cone of coal off, I'm definitely dead. One more cone of coal...
Four Bears is fine, but he...
Well, no, I'm just saying if Pembroke goes down, he's dead.
Yeah, but then...
If Pembroke goes down, the door's locked behind us.
I could roll 15 ones, Skid, on a D6.
And then he would only be unconscious.
He'd be disabled.
And then the coal would kill you.
Right.
Wait a minute.
Why are we laughing?
I just realized you tricked me into laughing.
We have to go.
I don't think we can stay here and win this fight.
I really, like, I know.
We always say this.
I always say this, but I don't think, I really don't think we can.
I mean, I don't see any way out of this except to go.
Well, Baron is down.
When Baron is down, there's no damage.
I mean, I can do some damage, not on Baron levels, but...
Could you kill them both this round?
No.
Have we done, we've done a little bit of damage to the one that did the breath on us, right?
Yeah.
Baron lit him up. My Obsidian Flow hit them both for a little bit. Okay did the breath on us, right? Baron lit him up.
My Obsidian Flow hit them both for a little bit.
Okay, well, here's the thing.
Baron lit him up three shots.
We don't even know if you might not even be able to go by your own choice
if you fail this save at the start of the round because you're fascinated.
If I fail my Fascinate save, then I would be dead anyway.
It's game over.
So can you use your whole action, Feyraza,
just to make sure he doesn't have to make that save?
I was going to say I could just delay and let him go first.
No, then he loses his turn still.
Yeah, because don't forget you all have to be placed in the exact
right position for him to
quantum leap you out of there.
Right, so if Feyraza held
and Pembroke, if you
fail your save, here's the problem, I think get you out of there. Right. So if Feyraza held and Pembroke, if you fail your save, here's the problem.
I think if you fail your save and she then goes, I think you lose your action.
Well, then I could move up.
But if you do it now and shake him, you don't have to make the save.
You're broken out of the fascination.
Oh, I guess.
Right?
Right, Troy?
What are you saying?
If Feyraza uses her turn to shake him out of it now, he doesn't have to make a save on his turn.
He's out.
He's out of it Oh no, that's true
Because once you
And that's her standard action
She would still get a move action
I have to move up to him
Right
I'm not saying
And there's that difficult terrain
Wait, are you flying?
No
Right, but with Baron unconscious
Then you can't all go
Only three of you can come
You'd have to leave Baron there
Not if she stands in the right place
Do it
Yeah, no, he's like really pushing us.
I mean, we're metagaming now, so like we have to.
No, no, but I mean, yeah, look at the map here.
Yeah, I mean, I could stand in a place where he could get me,
but that would be contingent upon.
Can you move, shake, move?
No, I just move.
I would move to the spot where I would need to stand for him to get us if he moved.
And then I would move, shake, and he would move.
I see.
What are we actually talking about, running?
We've never done this before.
Never ran.
Talked about it.
Yeah, girlfriend.
We could leave Baron behind, too.
That's always another.
I have not.
They would just feast on him, and then you would be free to run.
You'd be free to run.
We only wanted the dwarf.
Frostworms are poor dwarves.
No, but yeah, I mean, we've never we have never done it before,
but there's the first time for everything.
Can I take it now? I think it's not like
I honestly don't see any
other way out of this. I am totally unconscious.
I'm going to let my
agency be the same as my players and
leave it up to the hands of my good friends and partners.
For those of you listening at home,
he's now staring at each of us longingly with puppy eyes.
Please, please teleport my body out of there.
I actually have just placed a whetstone on the table
and I'm sharpening a Rambo-esque knife.
No, it's your guys' choice.
Whatever you want to do.
Well, Feyraza, it is your turn.
I mean... By the rules of the game. choice. Whatever you want to do. Well, Feyraza, it is your turn. I mean...
By the rules of the game.
Thanks.
We are bound by them.
The power invested in me by Iomide.
I also can see Pembroke calling this out.
You know, we're going, we're leaving.
But he can't right now because...
No, no, no, 100%.
I'm saying, you know, assuming Feyraza breaks you out of it.
Yeah.
Outside of just, like, tactics and, like, worried if we can finish it off.
Because, I mean, he just has a much loftier goal than dying to these frost worms.
You know what I mean?
And if he can get out, I don't see why he wouldn't.
He's also 100 times smarter than any of us at this table.
Yep, that's true.
Unfortunately, right now he's fascinated by a worm's song.
Right.
How do all your book learning work out for you there, Tambrook?
Well, nobody's perfect.
Not very wise, though.
I think that Ferrazza would logically try to shake Pembroke out of it.
That seems like that would be...
But where I'm getting tripped up here is that metagaming,
to put myself in the position
that would be optimal to teleport
because that's not what Farazza's thinking.
Farazza has other plans, other thoughts.
Well, I think that she would want to fight
and save Baron and kill these things.
The adrenaline's flowing through your veins
so you're trying to think like you would
in the heat of battle, maybe.
Yeah, also these creatures are dangerously out of whack.
I mean, they're incredibly powerful and are evil and probably need to go.
I would have tried to train one of these as a mount instead of an undead mammoth.
I mean, it would be cool to ride into battle on the back of a frost worm, am I right?
Yes, it would be cool.
Yes, Grant, it would be very cool.
Please stop making jokes. We're all about to die.
No, I think we're okay.
Well, hold on, Troy. What are your thoughts on running?
You have certain opinions on running that you've discussed with me off air.
This is what I think.
I hate it.
I think it's...
No kidding.
It's not fun.
But the alternative is most, if not all, of you will die.
So I understand the situation.
Well, it's like resting in a dungeon,
I'm not a big fan of it, but sometimes you get to rest
in a dungeon. It's the same thing.
I don't like it, but
your characters wouldn't
not save themselves. You know what I mean?
So it makes total sense.
We're not a bunch of paladins.
There's some bloodthirsty listeners
that don't want it, but you know what?
Don't worry, guys.
I'll get him.
If I don't get him this time, I'll get him somewhere in this dungeon.
I just worry that it's cheap if I get into position before we have the conversation.
It's just bad.
Well, you could leave it up to the die roll.
What die roll?
Pembroke save.
So just literally hold?
I'm just saying.
You have an out
For your character
To not do something
You think is out of character
By just holding
What do you think
Faye Roswell would do here
I think it's totally
I think it's totally
Within character
And it seems
Totally like the
Obvious choice
To go shake Pembroke
Right
But you're talking about
Positioning
But positioning
Yourself to be
Exactly in the teleport
Yes
Because you don't know
He wants to leave
Skid's telling you this
Skid told me that
and that was not
what I was thinking.
Well, here's another argument
for maybe placing yourself
in the optimal position.
You know that
Forbearance is the person
who can dish out
some massive healing.
He likes to use
healing wands.
That's true.
I have healed you before
with my healing next.
He likes to use
healing wands out of battle
but in battle
it's time for one of those
big old heal spells
and you'd be right next to him.
Well, then I would also
logically conclude
that he would probably go to help Baron if he helped anybody.
That's true, true.
But you'd still be closer to the Locus of Healing.
Well, I guess the other thing is, if...
You know what? No.
I don't know.
I think it's...
Farazza is going to step up next to Femburk, not in the optimal position.
Because if the teleport does happen, there is a way she could get herself out.
Okay.
So I don't think it's fair for me to say, like, I'm going to get myself in the best position for the teleport.
Okay.
All right.
For Oz, it will step up.
That's move action.
Shake Pembroke for a standard action.
And Pembroke is awake.
Bold.
All right.
Bold.
Zesty Morton, baby.
It is Four Bears' turn.
Four Bears, go ahead and roll your will save.
I am going to turn in a biocap.
Plus five.
Plus five to your roll.
To this roll.
Come on, Joe.
Do we know what the DC is?
18.
Is natural one an automatic fail?
Automatic fail.
Joe, this is the most important roll of your entire role-playing career.
I want you to think about this and really psych yourself out.
Just really build it up, Grant.
Just really think about it.
What's your will save modifier?
With the bottle cap, it'll be a plus 14.
So I'll be fine.
No, wait.
Joe, natural two, O'Brien.
One, two, or three.
One, two, or three is a fail.
A one, two, or three from you?
I also throw in my bottle cap, too, just to make sure it's only a one.
But we can't.
We can't. We can't sack them.
Joe, you'll be fine.
This is hilarious. Here we go.
Oh my god, what is it?
Oh my god!
You've got to be shitting me. Fucking natural one!
No, you didn't. Did he really, Matthew?
It's literally, literally
today. He rolled his
gold die and it says fuck. Literally today. Fuck! You deserve to die. literally today. He rolled his gold die and it says fuck.
Literally today.
Fuck.
You deserve to die.
Literally today.
I got in the mail from Cody in Pekin, Illinois.
Hold on.
I want to shout out.
Skin and grain have fallen over.
I want to shout out to Cody in Pekin, Illinois.
Holy crap.
And friend of the pod, Stephen Graham.
Why are you involving them in this?
Because they sent me die
where the natural one just says fuck
and that's the one I rolled
and it straight up came up
unbelievable
this is so fucked up
dude
you are truly cursed
I mean you know what?
It's bad enough that Four Bears is going to die.
Now I don't have my bottle cap for my next character.
What a waste.
Oh, my God.
I'm going to throw up.
That's so funny.
That is so ridiculous.
Well, you must really like that tune, man.
Fascinate is not a combat spell.
I'm just saying it one more time
for the record.
I just want to go on the record.
I don't disagree.
I know, but,
I mean, to be fair,
you did fail three saves.
That's the only reason
I'm fine with it,
because I do say, like,
if you keep rolling shitty,
you deserve what happens.
God, I can't believe it!
Well, it is Pembroke's turn.
Pembroke, you are on difficult terrain.
You've seen this creature take multiple attacks of opportunity,
so tread lightly here.
You could shake me awake.
What do you want to do?
Okay.
No, we can't.
Pembroke, he is...
That's right, that's right.
Feyraza breaks him from his reverie.
Yep.
He suddenly realizes that he's in enormous pain.
His entire body is covered with...
Cold welts.
Yeah, frost, like the worst frost burn anyone's ever experienced.
Yeah, yeah.
He is on the death's door.
Tips of your fingers are all blackened.
Yeah, like he is about to die,
and he realizes all in a moment,
like how precarious, how deadly this situation is.
So with his 240 IQ, he assesses the situation.
He steps to the south, the southeast, goes diagonally
to a position between four bears and Baron. Grabs
four bears and Baron
by their sleeves. Kneels down
so he's got his right hand
grabbing Baron down on the ground and his left
hand grabbing four bears.
And he turns to Farazza
and says, I'm sorry!
And teleports out.
Oh my god!
Oh my god! Oh my god.
Roll a d100.
Let Joe roll it.
No, no, no.
23.
Michael, do it.
That's right.
You slam dunk Baron.
All right.
Oh my god, Skid.
Wow.
We are staying in initiative order here, because this has never happened.
Let's put the party.
Wow.
Baron.
Well, you said you had a plan to get out.
I had a plan.
You are going back to camp, I'm assuming, Pembroke?
Would you do that, Skelter, Minter Hall?
No, I'm actually, I'm going back to Skelter.
Skelter?
Oh, shit.
Okay.
So you really lived.
You could have told me where you were going.
I'm sorry.
Meet me at Skelter.
I'm sorry, we're going to...
Wait, where?
The last part of the message cut off.
Text me.
All right, so you go to Skelter.
Yeah.
You arrive...
Into your hotel room?
In Skelter.
Baron. Yeah. Roll a fortitude save Skelt. Yeah. You arrive... Into your hotel room? In Skelt. Baron.
Yeah.
Roll a fortitude save to stabilize.
Whew.
Natural 20.
Oh, shit.
Oh, shit.
He's a strong man.
You stabilize.
I just realized my plan is contingent upon me going before the worms, and that's not
going to happen.
Oh, what?
Oh, shit.
Oh, no.
Wait.
Did you say you had 20-some hit points?
Yeah.
Well, the one can't see you.
The other one can.
Oh, my God.
Wow.
You know, the whole time you said you had a plan, I just figured you were fine.
My plan was to get out.
I figured you had a plan.
Well, I just figured you'd turn into, like, a fucking grasshopper. I mean, I wasn't going to do grasshopper, but I was going to get out. I figured you had a plan. Well, I just figured you'd turn into like a fucking grasshopper.
I mean, I wasn't going to do
grasshopper,
but I was going to do something.
I was going to, yeah.
I was going to, yeah.
I had a way to avoid all damage.
Huh.
For a very long time.
Two worms.
They are both hampered.
Here.
Oh, boy.
Well, the first worm I know can get up to you and take one attack.
Even with that difficult terrain?
Yes.
It's out of the difficult terrain.
But that part is difficult, too.
Yeah, it actually can burrow.
So it burrows up and under.
So first I'll roll this attack. And you know what?
I'll roll it on the table.
Joe, you had a thought?
I mean, she's dead.
Like, these things are rolling
40.
I don't know. How many hit points do you have?
28.
Let's see how it turns out.
I highly recommend you don't roll it in front of us.
I have to be fair.
Natural 1.
Natural 1!
Oh my god!
Are you serious?
Oh my god!
I see it.
I see it right there.
Green.
Natural.
It's really terrible.
You are a hero after all.
So it moves.
If you're not playing this game, you're out of your mind.
You are out of your mind.
Take a picture.
Yeah.
They'll never believe you.
I rolled it right on the table.
Unbelievable.
Neon green.
Neon green.
And then take a picture of the episode.
Get a newspaper.
Now here's the thing.
Here's the thing, Matthew. Oh my god.
It's the second
worm's turn. Yep. Now,
he is in difficult terrain here.
You know what?
It's really great this isn't the path I had played
10 times. His friend would be in the cone
if he tried to cone.
Yes. You mean his friend that's impervious to cold?
That's the one.
The very one.
All right.
Oh, my God.
So what's that?
He's just going to trill forever.
She's bolstered.
All right.
So that's where.
How far can it get?
It gets there.
It gets there. That's as far as it can go. It's at the mouth of the tunnel. So that's where... How far can it get? What's its speed? It gets there. It gets there.
That's as far as it can go.
It's at the mouth of the tunnel.
I'm at the mouth of the tunnel.
I'm about 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 feet away from Feyraza.
Mm.
Mm, mm, mm.
Whew.
This is... What's the range on Kona cold?
It's gotcha if I want to use it
Did you hear that?
If he wants to play with you like this play thing
What an asshole
Can I make a suggestion?
I'll listen
Let's you and I go play this round
Away from the rest of the crowd
They don't know. They abandoned me.
What if all of us leave the table except for you and Matthew?
Yeah, we just stay at the table and we talk.
And you make your decision.
Just Joe, Skid, and I in the bathroom.
We do it normal.
We do it normal as we need to do.
Wow.
We come back, see a big red X on Feyraza.
We're like, well, you guys don't know what happened.
Oh, shit.
Back at Skelp.
No, you're back in Skelp, and then we'll figure it out. Well, here's Back in Skelp. No, you're back in Skelp and then we'll figure it out.
I like the idea. The issue is
I'm just trying to decide
if it would cone of cold one person.
It wanted to attack all of you.
I guess it doesn't know.
Maybe it thinks we're still there somewhere.
Right, right, right.
You guys just disappeared.
Maybe we went invisible. If anything, it thinks you're
around the corner or something like that.
I'm wondering if I'm just going to double move and get right up in your business.
Because I'm limited in terms of my attacks.
Don't get me wrong.
I'd love to use Cone of Cold.
There is precedent for this creature to not use Cone of Cold on one creature.
So that creature did appear dead, for the record.
Let's not give Troy any reasons to use it. I don't look great. So that creature did appear dead, for the record. Let's not give Troy
any reasons to use it. I don't look great.
I probably look like easy prey
because I basically died.
Basically died.
So it's just going to move up.
I'm just going to move up, Matthew.
Alright. I'm interested
to see what you're going to do because I still
don't know how you're going to get out of this situation.
A bug can still get hit by a cone
of cold and still be
attacked.
So
it moves up. It moves
up. Double moves.
Okay.
So we're not going to
walk away from the table. No.
I don't think so.
You know what's really weird? What?
I'm getting a call from myself right now.
What?
I'm getting a call.
Is that future Troy telling you what to do?
From myself.
The fate of the universe hinges on the decisions.
Oh, my God.
That's like frequency.
That's bizarre.
Answer it.
I'm terrified.
That is...
Wow.
Do you have your home phone number? Do you have a landline? I have one phone. That is... Wow. Do you have your home phone number?
Do you have a landline?
I have one phone.
That's really weird.
I think it's a sign.
Really weird.
It's a sign.
Let's just get this to return to the creepy.
This is really freaky.
It's freakier still because that's...
Legally the message.
How did you not answer that?
What would you...
I wouldn't answer that.
I don't want to talk to me.
I don't even want me to know where I am.
Did you kill Ferrazza?
It's Troy from 20 episodes from now.
He's like, you should have killed Ferrazza.
Would you have the chance?
Well, that's terrifying.
I'm so freaked out right now by this entire episode.
And now I'm calling myself from either the past or the future.
Oddly enough,
while dealing with a character
who is caught somehow
in some time warp situation,
I don't know what to do, Matthew.
You are, you know,
within range of two of these creatures now.
What do you want to do?
There's nowhere to run.
There's nowhere to hide.
Is there? Oh! She got up her sleeve. What do you want to do? There's nowhere to run. There's nowhere to hide. Is there?
Oh! She got up
her sleeve. What do you got?
I'm going to roll the cast defensively.
Oh, shh.
I mean, if you...
What is the DC of this? Because if you fail, does it...
It's DC 21. I got a plus 19
to this check. Okay, and
what if you fail? It gets an attack
of opportunity? Yeah. They both do.
Bottlecap?
I mean, I'll throw in a bottlecap.
It's only a natural one.
Or save it.
Well, it's your life.
I mean, if I fail this roll, they both get it.
You will die.
I will die.
You will die.
So this is the time to use a bottlecap.
Okay, plus five to your roll.
So it's only a natural one.
Against its CMD plus five?
I rolled a natural four.
No, it's DC 21.
I have the DC right here.
Oh, it's DC.
It's casting defensively.
I'm sorry.
Yes.
All right.
So you made it.
I made it.
Okay.
Farazza suddenly, the way I picture it is her body just starts to liquefy and melt and form into stone on the floor.
I cast melt into stone.
Oh, wow.
Oh, wow.
Liquefy, melt, and just become stone. the floor. I cast Melt into Stone. Oh, wow. Electrify,
Melt, and just... Become Stone.
Become Stone. Oh, it's like Terminator 2. Yes!
How long does it last?
What's the duration?
110 minutes. Oh my god,
they're totally gonna leave!
I don't need them to... You stopped them! I don't need them to leave. I just need them to get... I need them to
You stopped them
I don't need them to leave
I just need them to get
I need them to get
Away
Far enough away from me
That I can
Get up and run
Get up and run
Book it
Turn into an eagle
Alright so
They can't target you
You're liquid stone
They can attack the stone
Right
Right
But they don't
They don't have that
They have wisdom
They're not intelligent
They don't have intelligence
Yeah so they can
While on stone, you remain in contact
However tenuous with the face of the stone
Through which you melded
You remain aware of the passage of time
And can cast spells on yourself while hiding in the stone
Nothing that goes on outside the stone can be seen
But you can still hear what happens around you
Oh my god, it's like a nightmare.
These two worms
slithering over you
trying to find you.
Transmute
rock to mud expels you and then
slays you instantly unless you make a
DC 1842 save.
I'm gambling you don't have transmute rock to mud.
They both cast transmute rock to mud.
Oh my god.
I think you may have pulled this off.
I can't believe you rolled that natural one.
That was it.
That's it.
That's your life.
Your life was on the line, and you rolled a natural.
You rolled that damage, what that damage was going to be.
I'm 90% sure that if you rolled a natural two, he would have died.
It was 43 points of regular damage.
And...
13 points of cold.
Before the cold even got there.
Is what it would have been.
Okay, so you go into the stone
for an episode.
And they just
start slithering over to where you were.
One slithers past you,
going down the hallway with which you came,
up to those doors.
Then the one that slithered over you
slithers up towards the area
which you haven't even seen yet,
towards the north,
past those doors on the left,
disappears into darkness,
comes rushing back very quickly,
and eventually they go back into the tunnels and leave.
And after about 100 minutes, Farazza just kind of steps out of the stone.
Oh, my God.
Baller.
So amazing.
Wands, Cure Light wounds herself a couple times while she goes to the doors, to open the doors to the Vestibule.
Okay.
Oh, my God.
If there are Frost Giants patrolling in here, roll for initiative.
You go to open the doors, and the doors are locked.
Is there space?
Like, is there a crack beneath the door, above the door?
A crack enough for a bug?
Yeah.
Yes.
All right. Frost will wild shape for a bug? Yeah. Yes. All right.
Browse a wild shape into a fly.
Fly, okay.
And we'll go in the door and fly out of the...
3,000 frogs are on the other side.
And you fly out into the vestibule, which appears to still be empty.
So she'll unwild shape into an eagle
and fly out back to our campsite.
Back to the skelp.
Oh, no, you go to the campsite.
You go to the campsite.
So you go to the campsite.
I don't know if they were the skelp.
And no one's there.
Yeah, that's a little annoying.
You know what you should do?
Scry on them.
Oh.
I have to wait until tomorrow,
but if I can do it.
Scry, baby, scry. Make your can do it we'll see you next week
oh what
it didn't counter
