This week on the Glass Cannon Podcast.
This eerie voice came right into your mind.
The heroes take aim at a horrifying creature.
I'm just psyched that Longshot is a swift action for you now at 12th level.
Oh, boy.
Sorry, I was just dry heaving.
But soon discover the limits of their powers.
Cool. Would you mind doing me a favor, though,
and just rolling spell resistance real quick?
Ooh.
Oh, no. Just asking for a favor, though, and just rolling spell resistance real quick? Ooh. Oh, no.
Just asking for a friend.
SR, baby.
And when the creature takes control...
The creature swoop charges.
Jump.
Flies at you at a horrifying speed.
They may never be the same again.
He touches you, and he just says, curse.
The adventure continues now. He touches you, and he just says, Curse!
The adventure continues now. What is going on, everybody?
It's your old buddy, Troy LaVallee, coming at you with another episode of the Glass Cannon Podcast.
Can you believe it?
Week to week, we keep putting these things out.

Bum, bum, bum, ba-ba-ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-bum, ba-um. With as much Pathfinder as we play,
and as we have played over the past three years, five years, six years,
two things really amaze me.
One, how terrible we are at it.
Agreed.
Still.
Still.
But we're getting better. Here and there. No. I think we've regressed. Agreed. Still. Still. But we're getting better.
Here and there.
No.
I think we've regressed.
We've regressed.
Problem is, like, we get, some things we get better at, but then it throws new stuff at
us.
Yeah.
And then we have to be terrible at it again before we get better.
That's kind of our thing.
You've said before, Skid, we all have certain blind spots for certain rules, like, no matter
how many times it comes up.
But, like, I feel like we never notice the other person having that blind spot no i think our i think all of our collective
blind spot is each other's blind spot right no you just get used to playing things a certain way
and it just doesn't occur to you that you're doing it wrong even when you have been corrected you
still revert to it right right right well throwing things in the mix that we do correct each other
and oftentimes we correct each other with wrong information yes so it's very confusing it's
complicated game it's the blind spot leading the blind spots yes but i mean we are also um i think
part of the reason is we're a little distracted because we are having fun not taking a test right
so we're not spending the whole time thinking about taking a test. I think Matthew disagrees. He's not having fun.
No, no.
Matthew's not having any fun.
Most of us are having fun.
Just wait until Joe yells at you for getting something wrong with wrong information several
of those times.
All right.
Ease down.
Several of those times have been correct.
Quit yelling at Matthew, Joe.
Quit yelling.
I was doing an edit recently of, I think it was Aslan.
And normally I would cut this out
but you just hear joe like slam on the table and then under his breath off mike's kind of like i
don't even know why why we play this game and i left it in because you were so mad i don't even
know why anybody plays this game well i was talking about as well right right it's just so awful well
so that's the first thing that amazes me and And the second thing, and I know you're going to debate me on this, Joe,
is that Giant Slayer will be the first Pathfinder adventure path
that we will play to completion.
You want to debate me on that, Joe?
How do you mean?
Well, because I don't think any of us have completed a Pathfinder adventure path.
No, we haven't.
No.
I mean, some of us have played through book six of a pathfinder adventure path
that's true but uh our council of thieves game played books two to six right you skipped one
we skipped books one because we walked in with characters that were third level and you flew
through six because you were like i can't do this anymore i was having a kid right you're having a
kid so you just went actually that's not really Like, book six is a full sandbox, and the players chose to...
They were so dominant that they were just like, boss.
Right.
They were just like, let's do it.
And it was a tough fight, but they won it.
Without any of the prep work of book six.
It was amazing.
Just scan through.
So you pretty much play Council of Thebes With five and a quarter books
Five and a eighth books
Four and a quarter
Four and a quarter
Four and a quarter books
Yeah
But also six players
Which is why
It took forever
But also was dominated
You know
Yeah
You started
Wrath of the Righteous
Got through book one
You started
Curse of the Crimson Throne
Got through part one
Part one of book one
Didn't we get through part one?
Yeah Who knew? Yeah.
Who knew?
Yeah.
We're getting there.
Well, maybe we didn't.
But shut up.
We're like two or three sessions away from finishing part one of book one.
Skid has an eight-year Rune Lords campaign, which you'll probably never play another session
Never play it again.
Probably.
No.
In our poor Jade Regent game.
Oh.
Book five.
Book five.
Book five, which I know.
We're like one Pocono weekend away from finishing.
We could just finish it.
It's like the guy whose kidney just blows out in mile 21 of the marathon.
You know, he's been training for a year, and it's just like, boom, right at the end, you
collapse.
Bummer.
But Giant Slayer will probably be the first one.
I say probably because, I mean, one of us could die in real life. Because everyone of us could. I think everybody else will carry on the first one i say probably because i mean one of us could die in real life
and then several of us could i think everybody else will carry on the ap yeah that's the very
least that's true no see troy was thinking that he might die yeah i might go and he can't imagine
a scenario where life goes on without him oh we we do it without him i'm very sick
you were saying at the start of the episode you were having a very hard time breathing.
I get really amped up sometimes and I can't breathe.
I have trouble catching my breath.
My theory that I also pointed out at the time was that right before we recorded,
Troy crushed a souvlaki sandwich with a bunch of french fries in it.
Well, that's the way they serve it.
Who am I to tell the chef?
Hold the fries.
It's the way they serve it. Who am I to tell the chef? Hold the fries. It's the holiday season.
Well, if we're ever going to finish this, then we have to jump in.
You are...
No banter.
You are in this tomb, you know.
You walked in, fought some frost giants, went in, fought another frost giant with some undead mammoth,
brought some frost worms that almost killed you, back more prepared took them out then took on this horrible bone creature
then in a decapitated savatharim known as a doulahan and then a skull in a room dedicated
to like giant hunters basically it had shades of Nargrim Steelhand's tomb,
in a way, you know what I mean?
Like all these giant hunters,
but it's in reverse.
It's like a reminder to giants.
It's a trophy room.
Yeah.
It's a trophy room.
These are the ones we beat.
Right.
Remember them.
But the skull tells you,
I challenged Hurin Springbane
to single combat,
and he blindsided me.
All his guys took me out
and killed me and he came back a hero and has now been granted eternal life
go cut off his head bring it back to me here's my axe but it was all a lie no wait that part
was true you don't know i forgot the retroactively, and I told you, you're pretty sure the skull was telling the truth.
When has a skull ever lied to anyone?
What are the tells of a skull?
I know.
It's hard to read.
He did adjust his glasses and the brim of his hat.
That's why they sweep all the poker tournaments in Vegas.
Those giant, floating, purple, yelling skulls.
Yeah.
Vegas. Those giant floating purple yelling
skulls. Yeah.
When the skull
was talking, I kind of imagined it like the soup
can in Hot American Summer.
John Benjamin.
John Benjamin.
Well, he tells you
go north. We both
know you didn't say
fold your sweaters, fondle your sweaters
when you watch the wet hot 10 years later uh john and benjamin is like a character and you
see his death and he comes back as the king that's right like the origin story yeah so amazing i got to meet him once john benjamin yeah nice i heard a party
together and i i made well it's a long story anyway you must have heard his voice from a
mile away oh no i did i was standing behind him in line for the bathroom and uh it was like an
actor party and he was like hey how's it going i was like that sounded just
like him yeah that's okay he's like well i sound like you're disappointed or something i was like
no i've just never been one of these like big actor parties i thought there'd be like
mounds of cocaine everywhere and there isn't and he's like yeah no i guess i guess not it's like
i was like no i just i thought it'd be like carlito's way or something
and he went into the bathroom and he came out he just had no cocaine in there I guess not. I was like, no, I just thought it would be like Carlitos Way or something.
And he went into the bathroom and he came out.
He's like, no cocaine in there.
I was like, not anymore, right?
He's like, ha-ha, and he left.
It's good.
I'll never forget it. I'll never forget it.
Well, the head, which now is intrinsically linked to John Benjamin, tells you go north and to the east, to the Vault of Ignobility.
Do not go west.
Do not go west, young man.
So you head north.
Thou shalt count to three. You leave that giant great hall where you fought the Dullahan,
and there's like a mini antechamber before you come into this huge room with a sunken space.
It'd be a great living room.
It's really, it just needs a little fixing up.
It needs a couch.
Like a fire pit in the middle.
L-shaped couch.
Straight out of the 60s.
I don't know where you'd put the TV, but... Shag carpet. Because there's doors on there. Get some nice shag in there. Yeah. Well, I guess you could put the middle. L-shaped couch. Straight out of the 60s. I don't know where you'd put the TV, but... Shag carpet.
Because there's doors underneath. Yeah, you get some nice shag in there.
Yeah. Well, I guess you could put the TV...
Well, you can't see the north wall yet, but...
Spoiler alert. TV would go
to the best place for the TV.
The only place you can put the TV. Oh my god, we gotta fight right
under there. I wish I could catty-corner it.
There are double stone doors set
in all but the north wall.
And a short flight of steps leading up to a raised platform to the west where doors of black stone stand in the wall.
And then, of course, doors leading to the east and presumably to this vault of ignobility where Hearn Springbane now lives eternal.
Who took the axe, the shitty little broken axe?
Four bears.
Four bears.
Yeah.
Yeah. And my axe axe and mine axe and my axe you walk into this room and you see the door and you realize that this
sunken part is about two feet down and you're like not interested in that it's all black down there
uh let's just skirt our way around this pillar.
There was discussion about squeezing.
And I said, well, out of combat, don't worry about it.
And right when four bears got past it.
We should have known.
This eerie voice came right into your minds telepathically.
Ah.
I think I forgot it was telepathic.
Maybe I didn't say it.
But it was telepathically.
Where are my children?
Where is she?
I await them all eternally as this crazy-looking creature who,
I think I said something to the effect of, like,
its ribcage looks like it possesses some sort of thing inside of it,
a living skull, if you look at the image.
It's like MODOK or Kang.
Yeah, it's got flowing white hair, this Fu Manchu that blends into this beard, white hair everywhere, claws.
It's a large creature, and it just floats over the sunken living room.
Horrifying.
I guess we should just roll for initiative.
I guess we should. I mean initiative. I guess we should.
I mean, this is why we come to play the game.
We gotta kick it off.
Kick it off with a little Anish.
Anish!
I just saw a thumbs up from Grant.
There you go.
That never bodes well for my guys.
That's what we need.
A good one from Bear.
Bear!
Bear!
Bear!
Bear!
Bear!
What'd you get, buddy?
Uh, 23.
Okay, alright.
My bad.
I'll take a 23.
Uh, Feifei?
Uh, 20.
20 for the, uh, Feireza. And never call me that again. Okay. Uh? 20. 20 for the Feireza.
And never call me that again.
Okay.
Pembroke.
Seven.
Seven.
A gentleman seven for Pembroke, the potent forebears.
16.
Ooh, more like 16 bears.
Am I right?
That's right.
Four times forebears.
Four squares bears.
Oh, I like it.
Oh, it's the holiday season.
The holiday season.
So doop-de-doo.
It's Baron's turn.
Always is when we have a combat.
It's the crazy Baron time.
Baron, you are up.
You are hopefully out of your first seven range increments on that weapon I can't wait
to take out of the game.
I am outside of my first range increment.
I'm just psyched that long shot is a swift action for you now at 12th level.
Sorry, I was just dry heaving.
Was that a reaction to what Joe said or to the soup locky?
It's mostly to what Joe said, to the soup of Lockheed? It's mostly to what Joe said.
But a little French fry came up.
Off mic.
I don't know if that's a pick it up thing.
Really sounds gross.
I'm just buying time for Grant who has now 70 abilities.
Baron is going to stand where he is.
Yep.
Good.
He's going to turn off rapid shot.
Okay.
He's going to fire twice.
Minus two to his AC. One step outside of his first range increment. Yep. Good. Gonna turn off rapid shot. Okay. He's gonna fire twice. Minus two to his AC. One
step outside of his first range increment.
Okay. Here we
go. Oh my god.
31 to hit against regular
AC. Against regular AC?
Yes. Flat-footed
AC, mind you. Uh-huh. Oh, it did float
in the room. Uh, that's
a hit. Yeah!
Yeah, buddy!
Okay, we are talking about
27 points of damage
We're always talking about something
With your damage
Every single time
Beautiful dude
The second attack is going to be
A crack die
Oh
Out of the box
Broke his iPad
Okay
25 against regular AC
Oh my god
25 against regular AC 25 against regular AC
Flat footed
Is a hit
Nice
That's amazing dude
Well done
Flat footed
Check it and see
Not good
No bad actually
Bad
23 points of damage
Pathetic
Gross
Just garbage damage
Be ashamed of yourself
As we all are of you.
Uh, Feifei.
Uh, I did it again.
You did it. Yeah, I was there.
Can I do a knowledge check on this? No.
Okay, what do you want to do?
You tell me what knowledge to roll.
Uh, how about knowledge religion?
It is a floating thing with a living skull
on its chest. It could be arcana.
It could be. But I don't have either of those.
Okay.
I will not do a knowledge check.
All right.
That was your standard action.
I don't think that's how the rules of Pathfinder work.
I wish this was 2.0.
You know how the rules work?
The GM calls it.
That's right.
You're out of the game.
Ferrazza turns into a ball of dust.
Instead, Ferrazza is going to cast Flame Strike.
Oh, Flame Strike. they don't like that
you got enough range there chief
this isn't 5e
100 plus 10 feet per level
alright
how many actions does it take to cast it
one action
last question is it a druid spell
yes
third party
no
go ahead and Green goblin.
Go ahead and roll a reflex save.
You roll a...
Shut up.
Oh, that is going to be a 20.
Okay, you pass.
So let's see how much damage it is.
Okay.
Reflex save, huh?
So 20 points of damage for you.
Cool.
Would you mind doing me a favor, though,
and just rolling spell resistance
Real quick
Oh
Oh
No
Just asking for a friend
SR baby
16
So zero points of damage
For the flame strike
Oh
Oh my
On a flame strike
Good
The Troys are back in town
Alright
We're gonna go on
Would you like to move
Ferasa
I don't wanna ever Take your move action away from you.
Actually, I think I better because I'm flying.
You're flying?
Oh, no.
I walk through the doors.
I'm a...
You walk through the doors as an eagle?
Yeah.
Okay.
Well, you don't think I have legs?
I guess, yeah.
You've had a chicken leg before, haven't you?
That's true.
Kind of the same thing.
All right.
Eagle legs?
They're delicious.
Ferasa will fly over to the right side of him.
Okay.
All right.
So you just take off and poop on Baron as you go.
No!
No!
Uh, roll a reflex, Baron.
Ah!
Uh, four bears, you are up, my friend, in what could be your last combat ever.
Go ahead.
Uh, four bears is gonna go ahead and throw up a wall of fire between him and us.
Ooh.
Okay.
So he's gonna start it out with a wall of fire and we'll, you know, let it do no damage.
But perhaps, perhaps it will do some.
Let me ask you something about wall of fire in addition to obviously the spell resistance.
We don't have to roll that just yet until he goes through it.
How high is it?
20 feet.
20 feet high.
And the ceilings, I believe I said, were 30 feet high.
Yes, that's true. Oh, right. Right. So that doesn't make any sense. 20 feet high. And the ceilings, I believe I said, were 30 feet high. That's true.
Oh, right. Right.
So that doesn't make any sense. He's flying.
This creature is flying. That leaves
10 feet.
You know, I think it's safe to say
he's probably 12 feet
high. Would it make
sense for four bears to cast it?
Does it seem like the creature could easily
avoid the wall of fire? I would say he can avoid it, yes.
Because imagine if he Superman flies over it.
You know what I mean?
He just flies over it.
As long as there is a space and he can fly, he can just go.
So should I not do that action?
I would say don't do it.
All right.
Then instead I'm going to draw out as a move action a wand, and I'm going to cast fly on myself.
Oh.
For the wand to fly.
The Jeff Goldblum version?
No. No. The whatever Goldblum version? No.
No, the whatever this horrible creature is
version. You could use the extra strength and
removable
fingernails. That's true.
Might want to think it through. Might come in handy.
Alright.
Alright.
Guess it's my turn now.
My turn to play. My turn.
As if you negating a fourth level spell was not playing.
Yeah, that's true.
I did enjoy it.
All right.
The creature swoop charges right up to the corner between Baron and Four Bears.
That happened very fast in Roll20.
Just kind of
flies at you at a
horrifying speed and
goes to claw
Oh dear. Baron.
Oh no no. Baron of the Ash
Peaks. No. Maybe.
Nay Redheart. Actually
who knows what he was nay. That is
going to be
a 28.
Is it a giant subtype?
That's an excellent question.
I appreciate you asking.
It is not.
Then that, my friends, is a miss.
Is a hit.
Oh, okay.
I stay, it has 10 feet of reach.
All right.
I feel like something's up with my character sheet, but as I'm reading it now, it's a miss. I thought 28 was a miss for you.
I did too.
I thought it was 30, but my character sheet is loading like this.
I'm going to roll with what the sheet says.
Do you have the shaken condition on still?
I do.
Shaken does not affect AC, though.
Just a hit.
I have deafened and shaken, Don.
Yep.
Still 28.
I don't know why.
All right, Grant.
First thing that happens is you take 11 points of damage
Brutal
The second thing that happens
Not really
Is perhaps Skid's favorite thing
That can happen to a character in the game
Oh no
Skid do you wanna
Just read my mind
Level drain
Yep you take
One level of energy drain
With no save
Well now you get to roll
A fortitude save Which I'm sure you'll pass.
Come on.
I don't know.
Come on, dude.
You got pretty great fortitude.
18 on the die for a 30 total.
It was on two.
I saw the two.
It was on two.
It's like there's a weird guy underneath the table with a magnet.
Why do you think I yell at you every time you try to touch my knees?
Because my knee has magnets all over it I'm a knee toucher
Alright so you do not take one level of energy drain
But you feel as that claw just rips at your skin
There was a moment where a part of you
Was just falling out of your body
It's terrifying and this whole dungeon is terrifying
And real quickly I realized
At the top of the episode I said I gained an extra 12 points
Of HP
By taking the constitution bonus.
Right.
When I leveled up.
I had like 11 hit points left when I was standing at the end of the other battle.
Oh, wow.
So that would have taken me below zero.
So it's like, it's tough in here.
This is not good.
This is not a room you want to go unconscious on.
Even Baron is in danger.
Yeah.
That's when you know it's serious.
We need help.
It is Pembroke's turn.
This creature right now threatens Pembroke, Baron, and forebears with its reach.
Only Feyraza is out of its reach.
Before I do anything else, I'm going to do a knowledge check.
Okay.
I'm going to do a knowledge religion check.
You earned it.
That is a 22.
22.
I give you one piece of useful information as well as its name.
Does it have any resistances?
Does it have any resistances?
It does.
It has a lot of them.
Ones that fall under undead immunities.
For it is an undead.
It is a creature known as a devourer.
So it's immune to all the things
that undead tend to be immune to.
Ability drain, bleed, death effects,
disease, energy drain,
exhaustion, fatigue, ballista ozone.
Mind affecting. Mind affecting.
Non-lethal damage, if you want to just
knock it out. Does it say it there, mind affecting? And question it
later, yes. So yes,
it has undead
immunities. Okay. Devourerourer so pembroke is gonna shout out it's a
devourer try to kill it don't marry it whatever you do sage they make notoriously bad spouses. Uh, so Pembroke moves away. He's gonna move
one, two, three, four, five, six.
He's gonna move away like 30 feet.
Okay, that would provoke
unless you're double moving, because it is...
I'm not double moving, no. Go ahead, take your tech.
Alright.
You go ahead and take your tech.
I know the way you said it.
Alright, that's gonna, I'm assuming
a 35 will hit. That is a hit.
Alright, it's going to be... Now, see 35 will hit. That is a hit. All right.
It's going to be...
Now, see if you hit me or one of my seven images.
Oh, you still have seven images.
Yes, I do.
Okay.
You fool.
Oh, you cast that before you came in.
I did, yeah.
All right.
So what would that be?
So there's eight of you, right?
Yes.
All right.
So I'll roll it on the table.
An eight on a D8.
Nope.
One image gone.
And that image has energy drain all right
uh it sort of just like deflates like a balloon
so it vanishes can you imagine that's really cool all right so you get some distance there
towards the west that's a really cool mirror image so using the metamagic rod, I'm going to cast a quickened lightning bolt.
Oh, hell yeah.
Ooh, baby.
And that is...
Alright, and I cast the caster level
check. Yep, little spell resistance
check. Ooh, that's a...
That is a 29.
You're alright. Okay. You're alright,
Pembroke. And... A And reflex half for me? Yes.
DC 19. DC 19.
Got it. Okay.
So that's 32 total.
So 16 points of
electricity damage.
16 points of electricity
damage. I have a question.
I'm just going to throw it out there to you
and to the room. Okay.
This particular spell goes in a
120-foot line. Would that then
if, let's say Feyraza was like
on the ground, because Feyraza's flying, but if
Feyraza was on the ground, would that go straight
through him and hit Feyraza as well?
It would, depending on how it was angled
and if it was... The size of the creature affects
it a lot, right? Because you could hit it in any number
of squares. You could pick any square the creature is on a lot right yeah hit it as i could you could pick us
any square the creature is on so like his upper left square would not hit fair as a in a straight
line something i'm thinking about with lightning bolt because yeah that's uh regardless i'm up in
the air you're up in the air yeah i was just curious oh that's interesting okay and he's
descended and this guy is down but he's like hovering off the two foot floor he's hovering
right above that uh the two foot presumably he's like hovering right above that two foot. Presumably he's like on the
level with these guys because he hit them. Yes.
Yes. Yes. Yes. All right.
So 16 points of damage. He did not
care for that. And then
with my standard action, I'm
going to fire off a fireball.
Let's make another DC
19 reflex save. Okay.
90, 16.
Got it. And that is a 31 on the caster level check.
Yep.
And yeah,
Wiz is going to pass.
Oh,
hell yeah.
So that's a 47 total points of fire damage.
So 23,
23 fire damage.
That spell is on fire.
Good round one.
Good round one. Baron,
you are up and you are ten feet
away from this monstrosity.
And frankly, pretty boxed in there.
Baron ain't afraid of no monstrosities.
He's rapid firing at this guy. He ain't afraid of no devour.
Let's see what happens. You want to take your attack of opportunity?
Yeah, let me take mine first. You know, my neon
green, I was rolling it a lot before the episode.
And it wasn't, uh...
I was rolling it a lot before the episode.
Yes, combat reflexes. And it wasn't...
I love Joe O'Brien.
All right, go ahead.
The first attack is probably hit.
21 against touch AT.
21 against touch is a hit.
All right, that is going to be four.
It's just so funny.
You see single digits come up.
23 points of damage. That's still a hit. You see single digits come up. 23 points of damage.
That's still a hit. That's a real
miscalculation on my part. Second attack
is an 18 against Touch AC? Yep.
Well, it's 18 on the die, so it's actually
a 30 against Touch AC. Does that still hit for us?
Yes, that hits. Nice. Okay, max
damage on the damage.
We're talking
about... Oh, man.
28 points of damage.
Okay, okay.
Final attack is a misfire.
Oh, no.
But is it a hit is the question at a nine against Touch AC.
It is not, my friend.
All right.
Wait, does it matter if it's a hit on a misfire?
I think misfires can still hit.
No, they probably can't.
You're right.
The gun misfires.
Was that up close and deadly?
I know, I know. No, it wasn't. I did not declare up close and deadly. Quit trying they probably can't. You're right. The gun misfires. Was that up close and deadly? I know.
I know.
No, it wasn't.
I did not declare up close and deadly.
Quit trying to cheat, Matthew.
Thank Javis.
All right.
So misfire.
A little bit for the house there.
Feyraza, you are up.
Feyraza's going to do a hover check.
Okay.
Fail.
Fail.
Fail.
Makes it.
Nice.
And then she will begin casting.
Okay.
Feyraza begins casting.
Forebears.
Four of the Bearstown.
Forebears is going to pray for his people to protect Baron as he gets the hell out of here.
He's going to cast.
He's going to hex Baron with protective luck.
Okay.
And get out of there. So he's going to fly out over
And into the middle of the room
With protective luck
So if you attack Baron you've got to roll twice
And take the lesser result
Any attack
Any attack for two rounds
Well, poop to you
That would be pretty sweet
Alright, well it is the Devourer's turn.
Devourer. And Baron is the only
one left. And shit
if I want to do something cooler
than I can do now. Alright.
So I gotta roll two d20s.
He is going to attempt to cast
a touch spell on Baron.
So I'm gonna roll
two and I'm gonna take
the lower. Let me see what my touch attack is
I want to make sure I get as much
Out of this as possible
Okay that's still pretty damn good
I have to roll two
Well at least it's not level drain
Energy drain
It's probably something way better
Do I have to roll two?
Yes
Any effect that requires an attack roll
I'm going to throw up
Come on
Roll a daddy one
Fanfuck pony
Shit
Alright
The weakness of my ancestors
Got an 18
That's my high one
And my low one total
Is going to be a 27 against Touch AC.
Of course.
Of course.
What is your Touch AC?
20.
20?
Oh, yeah.
That's my regular AC.
He touches you.
And he just says, curse.
Roll a will save.
This is a big will save, boys.
Come on.
It doesn't get bigger than that.
All right, it's not good.
It is a six on the dive for a total of a 16.
Oh, that won't do it.
You've been cursed, buddy.
That won't do it.
Shit.
You have been cursed.
You got the plague, motherfucker.
Oh, this is bad
Yeah
Does that take an effect on my character right now
Or I worry about it later?
No, you'll worry about it right now
Let me ask you this
What is the misfire range on your gun?
One to three
One to three?
When I use out chemical paper cartridges, yes
Okay, and then what is it on the other gun?
Or when you use the other ammunition?
I never really use non-alchemical, so...
Let's say we're asking for a friend.
It's one to two is the normal misfire range.
Okay.
Your new misfire range is permanently one to nine on all your guns.
So I can't use guns anymore.
This is the dumbest way I've ever heard someone write off a character in a show.
Well, let me tell you what they suggest.
Minus six decrease to an ability score.
Minus four penalty on attack rolls.
It doesn't even come close, LaBelle.
Or each turn the target has a 50% chance to act normally.
Otherwise, it takes no action.
Attack rolls make sense.
If you want to reduce my attacks
against you by 6, that makes sense, but you can't increase
a misfire range. Or some other
effect that is
comparable with these. I think a 50%
chance to act normally, this is pretty much
a 50% chance to misfire versus
acting normally. Yeah, but see,
acting normally isn't as bad, because that's
really... I thought you were going to say it's now
1 to five.
Minus six.
Well, even there is too high.
Minus six to my attacks should do it most of the time for you.
Yeah.
I've thought it over.
It's staying at one to nine.
You've all made some interesting arguments.
You know what?
There's no point in even arguing.
And Grant's walked away from the table.
He has walked away from the table, everyone.
Yeah. He's not happy.
I think you're making a huge error.
I do, too.
I don't think you know what you're doing.
That's really overpowering.
Yeah, it's like I would actually rather take the 50-50 chance to act or not
because if he's acting with that misfire chance, like, he's going to destroy his gun.
That's the thing.
Yeah, yeah, he just won't act.
Right, right, right.
I know what you're trying to do.
It's just so, I think, that it's ludicrously worse than getting even a minus six to Dex is bad, but he can still play.
Yeah, yeah.
You know?
He can't really play now.
I have spoken!
Jesus Christ, man.
I have spoken!
I'm just saying, it doesn't have anything to do with guns.
No, you make a good point, but to me, he is cursing those gross little stubby fingers.
I think Troy, oh, okay, I was going to say, I think Troy's cursing the guns.
This guy's never seen a gun.
Troy, the devourer, six of one, half dozen of the other.
This is why he's, Grant, it's not the gun, it's your fingers!
This is why you don't want to overly antagonize a game master.
Because then they'll do stuff like this i will snap when i was a kid it was just like oh a mountain falls out of you out
of nowhere and now it's like oh you have a one to nine misfire chance one to nine misfire chance
to me in my mind that is like a it's it's less than a 50 mischance misfire chance which is
basically the same in my mind as 50% chance to act normally.
But the problem is it takes, I mean, it legitimately takes the gun out of the combat.
That's all I'm saying.
And hopefully out of the game.
That's my goal.
Well, it could take it out forever if it blows up.
Grant, please, join us at the table.
Grant's back.
Did you have a good...
Grant, I've been watching season two of Making a Murderer, and we put up a good appeal in federal court,
but it was fucking flatly denied, good buddy.
You know, I know that we have a lot of different responsibilities and roles.
There's GMs, there's players, there's things we complain about,
but I know that tonight is Troy's night to clean up the bathroom,
so I peed all over the floor to start with,
and then I felt even better as I was whistling out of the graveyard
because I realized if Troy makes one mistake with his wife,
he'll die alone.
That's true.
So that feels great.
I will die alone.
Because no one could ever love this awful monster
who doesn't understand math.
I'm just picturing you in the bathroom doing the old, like,
whoa, whoa.
I took your gun away once.
I'll take it away again.
I feel like you guys have had this conversation
Like what's a good panel discussion for when we go to these cons
And I feel like we should really lead a discussion
On anger management
Because we're totally experts
We should go to that discussion
We should go to one
We should go to that discussion
And then start yelling at the people giving us
I'm fired up I almost stood up
Brad peed all over the bathroom.
No, I just want to say,
I think you guys make really good arguments.
What a joke.
I just really like my argument and idea.
And I never get to do fun.
All right.
Make sure you use a little extra Fabuloso tonight
while you clean up the bathroom.
I want to smell it.
I'm going to come to your house.
It's not for nothing. The person who has never fun. How many characters have you killed in the show? That's to smell it. I'm going to come to your house. It's not for nothing.
The person who has it is never fun.
How many characters have you killed in the show?
That's true.
But it's been a while.
I haven't had fun in a while.
That's the difference.
It's the holiday season, Grant.
He's like a crack addict.
I'm putting coal in your stocking.
You're like the Pete Sampras of killing characters.
I mean, you should stop doing it.
I can't.
I'm tired.
I just can't stop.
Grant, it's not like your gun is currently misfired
oh wait it is by the way it then moves to the middle of the room i'm so sorry grant
it is now pembroke's turn uh i am gonna wait for is is ferraza next uh it goes to a new round and
it goes to baron i'm sure he'll just light them up in four shots. I'm after Baron.
All right.
I am going to cast Haste on Baron, and that should affect the other two.
Ah.
So that's what Pembroke does.
And you've got the range on that.
Yeah.
I have the range in.
So it's 25 feet plus, five feet every two levels range to center the target,
and then each target must be within 30 feet of each other,
which everyone is.
Okay.
Except me.
So, yeah.
All right, that's fair.
All three of us are literally exactly 30 feet away from this first one.
It's not a burst.
Like, I can cast it on Baron,
and then, you know, the next target has to be 30 feet from him.
Oh, you cast it on a target.
You can't cast it on an empty space?
Yeah, no, you cast it on, like, a person, and it's like empty space? Yeah, no. You cast it on a person. It's like a chain reaction.
Got it.
Can my guy get hasted as well?
No, it doesn't affect enemies.
Well, that's shit.
I'm making another ruling.
It's not one of those.
It's not going to be popular.
He is now hasted.
Oh, man.
Not everyone.
I'm on fire.
Not everyone can be Colonel Luther and just be totally beneficial to the enemies with
every cast they do.
Imagine an NBA referee doing this.
He is the NBA referee, the ball guy that cheated and gambled on everything.
Oh, yeah, the gambler.
Yeah, he's more like Billy Crystal in Forget Paris.
Forget Paris, yeah.
Where he's like, you're out of the game for life.
I've always wanted to do the show curse.
We gotta get Muggsy Bogues on the show, by the way.
Oh, I'd love it.
We've really dropped the ball. He's a huge fan. He is. He follows us. I mean, he's a short fan. He's a wanted to be the show curse. We gotta get Muggsy Bogues on the show, by the way. I love it.
We've really dropped the ball. He's a huge fan.
He is.
He follows us.
I mean, he's a short fan.
He's a short fan.
He's a huge fan.
Well, you know what, Baron?
Let's just cut right to the chase here.
Small but enthusiastic.
It's your turn.
Your gun is currently misfired, and you now have a very fair misfire chance of one to nine.
Baron looks like that internet meme where the guy can't hold all the things he's holding
and they put different things in his hands.
The gun just suddenly feels alien to him.
Right.
And he feels scared and he's worried.
He's not going to be as effectual as he normally is.
So he spends a grit point to clear his gun as a move action.
Standard action.
Puts it in his mouth.
Standard action.
Fires at your stupid... No, Barron, don't eat it! After all this. Standard action fires at your stupid
after all this time.
You've lived through so much.
Stupid, stupid creature.
18 on the dial.
33 against touch AC.
Wait, wait, wait.
You have the longer range now?
40 feet.
Jesus.
Oh, yes.
He looks like he's 35 feet away to me
based on my rolling. 40 feet on the roll. He was pointing he's 35 feet away to me based on my rolling.
40 feet away.
He was pointing at Pembroke.
Oh, that's going to be brutal,
Troy.
That is 28 points of damage.
I don't care for that.
I don't care for that one bit.
And that is the entirety of Baron
Sausagefingers Ashpeak's turn.
That's a good turn. I'm not going to lie.
Solid turn.
Let's see what Feyraza has been casting over on the western side of the room.
Over yonder.
The top of the room.
Sorry, take one point off that damage.
I had point blank shot on, and it's only 30 feet.
Ah, no.
I live forever.
Cheating son of a bitch.
Okay.
Fey, Fey.
Above us all.
Yes.
Storm clouds appear.
Oh. For I have called a lightning storm
I wish you didn't
I wish you didn't
And a lightning bolt streaks down from the sky
Or the ceiling and hits you
Roll a spell resist to check
Unless it doesn't have spell resist
It does
I will do this
And I failed the spell
God
Tonight on SportsCenter
Fabraza fucks up a spell
Natural three
Oh no
Blake Bortles yells at a wide receiver
And Troy fucks up a rule
I'm gonna give all my guys spell resistance
That's fun
And Fabraza will move up
Keep flying around
You don't want to hover?
Four bears, you might want to
take this guy out. Wait, can I see the back of the room now?
I want to see where the TV goes.
You want to see where the TV goes? Yeah.
I'll show you the back wall here. I could have shown it to you
earlier.
You see some more pillars.
Oh, yeah.
The TV could go right there.
It's good.
Jumbotron. Get a good 60 foot wide tv bump bump bump bump uh joseph patrick what do you
got um he is going to do do do do yeah he uh four bears is going to i want to finish the fight, bro. Oh, man. It's his turn next, and I will come for death.
Yeah.
I don't think I can do much to him
is the thing.
In one round...
I was going to say,
how does he look?
He looks undead,
so you don't know.
He's seen better days.
He has seen better days.
But he was alive, for instance.
You know what?
Four Bears is just going to... Yeah, he's going to fly up to this guy
so uh i guess that'll that'll provoke too oh so gross yep yep that'll provoke and he's gonna take
that i'm just gonna have all these negative levels for no good reason uh natural 20 oh my god. Confirm? Come on with this! To confirm,
I don't know, you got pretty good
AC. That's going to be a 27.
That is it.
That is
exactly it. With haste?
No, it's 29.
Yes!
That's my baby boy.
Alright, we'll do exploding Diz-Eyes.
No explosions. So it's 11 points of
damage, but I need you
to roll a Fortitude save.
Fortitude. Come on, Joe.
Don't roll like this.
21, DC 22.
Oh, boy! I went back to being Joe!
Oh, God!
All right, that is going to be one
permanent
level drain.
I don't know if it's permanent, but it's shitty.
Oh, man.
If that attack that includes an energy drain scores a critical,
it bestows twice the listed number of negative levels.
So if I confirm that crit, it would have been two levels.
Two levels.
I hate level nine.
This is brutal.
Negative levels remain until 24 hours have passed
or until they are removed with a spell such as Restoration.
Wow.
So it's not permanent, but it's still shitty.
Oh, but if a negative level is not removed before 24 hours have passed,
the effective creature must attempt a Fortitude save,
and then it goes away with no harm.
Otherwise, it's permanent.
Oh.
Okay. That's pretty juicy. I do not have Restoration. You better take this thing out, brother. and then it goes away with no harm. Otherwise, it's permanent. Oh.
Okay.
That's pretty juicy.
I do not have restoration.
You better take this thing out, brother.
Yeah, I am going to... So he swoops in, takes this attack of opportunity,
and then I am going to, as a swift action,
I am going to bane.
He draws out his mace,
and I'm going to swift action bane it against und mace. And I'm going to swift action, bane it against Undead.
Yeah.
And then swing down at this guy and crush his face with a natural fucking 20.
Joe, Joe, Joe, Joe, Joe.
Wow.
Can he get a confirm?
Come on, baby.
No, it does not confirm.
It was on what would have probably confirmed.
Yeah, it would have.
Yeah.
It did the opposite of what Grant said.
Yeah, it did the Jolene. Oh, you got exploding dice? opposite or grand side yeah I did the Jolene
Jolene Jolene Jolene
18 is that a confirmed
crit no it is not a
well shit I was in a lift
the other night and I
it was I mean we got
stuck in traffic coming
back from Brooklyn and
lift to the lorry and the
driver was playing like
Dolly Parton's greatest
hits and about
30 minutes into the
ride he goes you okay
with this music I was
a little drunk though
and I was like I am
more than okay with
this I love that song I
really love that song so
he connects this with
this guy's head with the
mace and does 16 points
of damage so he connects
but not as well as Dolly Parton's music did with people.
That's right.
16 points of damage.
Okay.
Okay.
Oh, boy.
I've got, like, one more thing I can do.
It's my turn.
Do it to Baron.
I'm going to...
You're right next to me.
So he goes out for a touch attack.
That's right.
My AC is just so high, I wouldn't...
Oh, shit.
If I crit on this touch attack, I might kill you.
I will say this.
If you roll a natural 20 on the attack, you will definitely confirm it unless you roll
a natural one.
I'm going to roll it on the table.
Oh, my God.
Because it...
It'll kill you?
Is that what you said?
It'll kill you. Yeah. Oh you said? It'll kill you.
Yeah.
Oh.
It won't kill him if he crits me?
Bounce back?
He's rubber and you're glue.
Oh my God.
Oh my God.
It's neon green.
It's neon green.
Fuck that.
It's a natural 20.
I mean, do you see what I'm talking about?
Do you see what I'm talking about?
Believe. Oh no. You can't see what I'm talking about? Believe.
Oh, no.
You can't believe.
I don't mean to laugh.
Look at Grant.
Grant's back in the bathroom.
To confirm.
No, I'm going to pee on the floor.
To confirm.
It's a confirm unless it's a natural one.
I guarantee you.
Really?
Yeah, because all of his stuff is this energy stuff.
His touch AC is phenomenally low.
28.
Yeah.
That should do it. Is it really gonna kill him?
Well, it depends on this
fortitude save. Let me tell you what
he's doing.
That little thing beating inside his chest.
Okay? The face?
The little face.
He's like reaching out
and his hand goes right
through your body.
Oh, I hate shit like this.
To devour Forbear's soul.
Oh, no.
It acts as a spell known as Slay Living.
Oh, yeah.
Which on a confirmed crit will now do 24d6 plus 36 points of damage.
Jesus. No, you're fine.
Unless
you make a fortitude save.
Alright, I'm gonna give you
one of my two bottle caps.
Oh! To help
you out. I'm not sure what the new
system is as far as this is concerned. That'll give you
a plus five.
You're fine.
You're fine. I'm gonna tell you the D five. On a fortitude save.
I'm going to tell you the DC.
You can only get that plus five.
It's DC 22.
Otherwise, you're going to take 24 D6
plus 36 damage. I have a permanent negative
level, which has lowered my fortitude save.
I need a seven on the die.
Do you want to know something else?
One through six.
24 D6. I think I would know something else? One through six. Did that...
I 20, 24...
I think I would survive that roll, to be honest.
I'll tell you what.
It doesn't end there.
If he kills you this way, it's...
I mean, it is probably the worst thing that could ever happen to Fordbear.
Someone whose soul...
Your soul's destroyed, right?
Yeah.
Well, this is what I'm saying.
It's like this fortitude save to me is like as this guy is reaching into his soul it's like it is it is making ripples in the afterworld and like his
ancestors are now coming to stop this from happening this role represents the strength of
his people the strength of everybody that has died to these fucking giants all the souls that
they are capturing and torturing and using their
bodies for horrible machines and shit like that.
They're all going to scream at once and come and converge within forebears.
Make the roll and live.
Fail the roll and your soul is lost forever.
There it is.
Maybe.
Ten on the die.
Twenty-five. Wow. You would have failed without the bottle cap. 10 on the die 25 Wow
You would have failed without the bottle cap
I would have failed
I would have been 20
I would have failed without the bottle cap
My boy
I don't even think those numbers are accurate
So you're probably cheating
It is remarkably less damage
But I'm going to hand roll it
It's just like the force of all the...
Yeah, they're like, we're not letting this happen.
So while we're waiting for Troy...
He has a purpose.
Man, I wish my family loved me as much as Four Bears' family loves him.
That's really good.
Well, to be fair, they love him because he's the only one.
So I just rolled 24d6 on my dice roller here to see what happened.
Yeah.
I got an 80.
It was 24d6 plus 36 points of damage.
Is that what it was?
Yeah.
Yeah.
So it would have been 116 points of damage.
Yeah.
Would it put you down?
Nope.
I'd be fine.
You're fine.
I'm fine.
What if I rolled it?
Well, that's the difference.
That's the difference.
80 on 24d6 is pretty good.
Yeah, that is pretty good.
That is pretty good.
Well, instead, you're going to take 50 points of damage.
Okay. That's not enough all right had you been slain by that attack you will become trapped
within the devourer's chest oh what if we kill the devourer you have to uh the creature into the
yeah that's amazing wow it's very very tricky like things happen to you when you get devoured. Like, you take permanent negative levels equal to the spell level.
Oh, wow.
Whoa.
Jeez, man.
Well, just about.
Excuse me.
Yeah, I don't want to ruin too much about this character, but, I mean, you basically take a ton of permanent negative levels,
and he becomes more powerful with your soul and is able to cast more magic.
Oh, shit.
Hands off the chess piece.
You can't do this.
Okay.
And I don't think you even took half your hit points, right?
No.
Are you familiar with the optional massive damage rule in Pathfinder?
Yes, yeah.
We don't use it for this game.
No, I know, but if you did, with any type of roll, if you'd failed that,
there's also, like, the DC 15 roll.
Fortitude save to just die.
If you just have half your damage taken out of one attack.
Yeah, we do that in Androids and Aliens, but not in this show.
No, no, no.
It's not even taking you below zero.
It's just in one hit.
Sure, sure, sure.
It's worse than Starfinder.
That was intense.
I can't believe you rolled that natural 20.
On the table.
That's why I did it in front of you, because I'm like, if it happens, it happens.
You know it's going to happen.
If Joe gets excited about something, he's just like, I'm going to do this.
He's not going to do it.
And if you say that you're going to roll a 20, you roll a 20.
Every time.
I think you've actually killed characters.
Almost the characters you've killed, you've killed rolling on the table.
Yeah, that's true.
No takesies-backsies.
It is Pembroke's turn.
Four Bears, the light almost left your eyes.
Pembroke is standing about 30 or so feet away, and you see this happen.
You see him reach right into Four Bears' chest.
It's kind of like Temple of Doom.
It's our temple.
Yeah, yeah.
I need a whiskey after that.
My heart's racing Pembroke is
He's going to pull out the big guns
He is going to
Fire off a disintegrate ray
Oh there we go
There's a lot of variables
Well first I have to hit him
If you disintegrated him and forebear's soul
Was in there would he die permanently
Oh yeah
A soul is not tangible I miss with the spell Right. If you disintegrated him and Forbear's soul was in there, would he die permanently? Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah, definitely.
A soul is not tangible.
I miss with the spell.
Oh, no.
So, like, a big, huge block of the far wall just, boom, like, turns to dust.
It was green. It was a little berry column.
20 more.
Dead, come rolling in.
Oh, find your freedom.
You hit a stud.
And, uh, yeah.
And then, oh, and actually, you know what?
Uh, then with the metamagic rod, one more time, I'm going to cast a magic missile.
And I'm going to make a cast hopeful check on that and make it.
And that is 22 points of damage.
22 points of damage.
And you have defeated the device.
Pam Brooke.
Pam Brooke.
Oh, that Pam.
And you just hear as it fades out, Scarecrow.
Scarecrow.
Oh, wow.
So was Scareotla its child?
It was looking for its daughter, right?
Or, well, I was thinking Skirkotla, like, killed his family or something.
Kept him there.
Maybe I could be wrong, but I don't know.
He wasn't a giant, so yeah.
He wasn't a giant subtype.
What subtype is he?
Does he just not become a giant anymore when he becomes undead?
Yeah, I mean, for him, it was a large extra planer undead oh extra planer oh is he evil evil outsider
no he's neutral good
wow i could tell the charitable way that he like you never tried to devour our souls
he's neutral diplomacy he's neutral good But he shares Troy's outlook
On the party
He's a devourer
He's just an awful person
With a heart of gold
You really didn't understand
He went through a lot of shit
He's misunderstood
So Four Bears immediately
Is just going to fly over
To Pembroke
And be like
Thank you my friend
Well done
There's a bit of a
Sticky situation there I'm glad you made it.
It was no sure thing. That horrible creature could have done you greater harm even than you suffered.
I think greater than you imagine.
He reached within me and did something. Almost did something horrible.
Took me and everything I am from this world and everyone I've ever known from this world
in one reach. She, Skirkadla, she wields great power. She does. It's true. And getting clearer
and clearer, the deeper we get in this horrible, cursed cursed place and you can see he's honestly like
kind of scared in the face and you haven't
seen this before like when he saw
all the undead stuff at the Urgothoa temple
he looked like
this is abominable this is
disgusting but he didn't look like
terrified
that reach into him that like took
gripped his soul
and then he felt other souls fighting for him.
He was like, I almost lost.
It had nothing to do with how big I am, how strong I've always been.
I've always been able to fight.
You know what I mean?
It took it all away.
Terrifying.
Well, Pembroke, he sees this in his face and he reaches out and kind of grabs him by the shoulders.
And in, what's your language again shawanti yeah
sorry shawanti and shawanti says my friend i am glad you struggled survived sorry
you would have been missed and then pembroke like puts his cane down and starts like making
his way over to the body.
It just falls.
Does it just fall onto the ground here?
Oh,
or does it sort of vanish?
Crumbles into dust.
Crumbles.
Wow.
Can we know any more about the devourer from the check?
Like in,
like from a lore perspective,
like what is the lore behind devower yeah yeah I think if you
sleep on it you probably
would Pembroke would be
able to recall a little
more information okay
well yeah and then I'm
gonna go check on Baron
Baron the scene I sensed
something something some effects come when you were attacked before.
You seemed trepidatious and you were pulling your trigger.
Are you all right?
I just never felt so unsure about something before.
something before.
In the moment, it came out alright, but I felt like if
anything else had happened, I would have failed.
I've never felt like this before.
I'm going to do
a knowledge arcana check
just to see what I skid.
The player already knows.
26. Yeah, that's enough to know that he's...
And Pembroke is like, he's a
connoisseur of curses. Yeah, that's enough to know that he's... And Pembroke is like, he's a connoisseur of curses.
Yeah.
He's studied curses.
All the ancient Assyrian.
You know a curse when you see one, yeah.
You see his fingers are like blackened.
Yes, it's like, ah, yes, this is a very unique curse.
Yes.
I would argue the gods themselves for the unfairness of it.
Oh, God.
How this... It seem so imbalanced.
I would curse their names to their very faces for the temerity of it.
If they would only show themselves.
If they had a single face, I'd smack it.
Baron, if you desire it removed, I can take it away from you now.
Because I fucked up earlier, and I left it on my memorized sheet.
Thank you so much, Pembroke.
Your guidance always means so much to me.
But let's do it outside of these awful walls.
I suddenly feel less of an appetite to hunt down her and Springbang.
I don't like to be a shrinking violet, but can we leave?
I am with you, Baron. I don't feel myself.
I just don't feel right.
Something is wrong within me. I must rest. Yes,
I see. You have had some of your vital life
essence drained from you as this creature.
The devourer, yes, is something they do.
Feyraza, I think we should leave. What say you?
I feel a great
draw and pull to keep exploring.
To keep going north and east.
I understand, my friend.
Then north and east we go.
Wait, stop, please.
We haven't had a vote.
I understand, my friend, but we are in dire need of regrouping.
I have not felt a pull like this since I came to this continent in search of the chosen one.
Must we go?
I understand.
Come.
And he gathers, like, everybody together.
He says, let us think on this.
And he puts his hands on them and teleports them all to the temple.
Outer.
No choice.
Mineral's temple?
Yeah, yeah.
Oh, whoa. roll a d100
oh right oh shoot this
has been that kind of
episode this actually
cursed the d100 roll it
on the table 29 you're
back can you yeah that
would have been way
better Troy now that you
think about it if you
curse Pembroke curse my
teleportation you canse my teleportation.
You can't do teleportation anymore. No, it's like increase the risk to much more than 1%.
1 to 9.
Still sounds insane.
So, you're back in the Temple of Minderhall,
or the Cathedral of Minderhall.
You see Farron.
She has some guests guests she's hosting a
ralphio an open house is ralphio here is ralph machio here ralphio's there uh yeah i mean it's
business as usual i don't have to get too much into that uh but yeah you guys are back
what do you want to do do you want to just go right to bed do you want to well i am going i so i actually do have break enchantment prepared because i fucked up in like
one of my other i didn't mean to prepare it but i was still on my sheet right so fortuitous i know
so i have i cast break enchantment on on baron and you just see these like twisted knotted hands
kind of in like a misshapen way just kind of
go back to the original agility dexterous kind of alacrity that they're used to working with
and uh baron just looks in awe at pembroke and says i've been more bedfellows with the divine
but the arcane has such amazing powers. He's quite something.
He puts his hand on his arm.
You do make it look so easy, Pembroke.
Thank you so much.
It is coming back to me.
It taps his forehead.
I'll try to get some rest.
A lot more to do tomorrow, I think.
I think you owe me an apology now.
Yes.
Sorry.
Sorry, Troy.
I'm sorry.
It wasn't that bad, right?
What are we apologizing for?
Because he only shot one time, rolled a natural 18, and then we broke a champion.
And then you broke a champion immediately after.
It was one half of one comeback.
I didn't know he messed up and had it prepared.
I almost killed four bears in the interim.
Why didn't you just tell us that?
I thought he was going to make me apologize for siphoning gas out of his tank all these months.
I've been just stealing gas.
Is that why I've been on empty?
Yep, yep.
All right, so he breaks the enchantment.
Your fingers no longer look all gnarled and twisted.
Four Bears, I'm sure you have a lot going on emotionally from that moment.
Oh, yeah.
It's terrifying. And he definitely is, he needs to rest and he needs to kind of commune, you know, with
the, with his ancestors and, and sleep on it.
And as part of that, you know, he's going to, he's going to prepare restoration.
So, oh, well, I guess he has a fortitude save that he does.
Is that right?
Or no, it's 24 hours.
The next day, yeah.
We'll have that happen right before the next combat.
Well, then we should just do restoration.
Yeah, you just do restoration, and then it can be gone.
Do you have it prepared?
No, but we need to rest.
So we'd have to prepare it.
And then pray for it the next day.
Okay.
Pray for the help.
Sorry, just to make sure.
Do you have restoration prepared?
I do not.
Matthew, you're having fun over there.
All right, so you rest
Yes
I think Faraz actually
She has a lot of trouble sleeping
I think there's a lot of anxiety
About not being back in the mountain
Searching for
What's his name?
Springbane
I think what she's saying is true
H-H-U-R-R-A-N
H-H-U-R-R-A-N Is it H-U-R-R-A-N? H-H-U-R-R-A-N.
Ah, H-H-U-R-R-A-N.
Hurren!
Hurren!
But yeah, I think what she said to Pembroke is not untrue,
that she suddenly feels kind of flush with purpose
in a way she hasn't in some time.
Such a clear and direct goal.
And you all prevented her from uh achieving that so great thanks guys wow wow so that's how she feels no it does it is interesting
though because you were someone that had like a chosen one something that's been uh just
indoctrinated in your brain about needing to pursue and find it's gone you're not sure it is
and then you were re uh satiated that desire that kind of it's almost like a bomb sniffing dog when bomb sniffing dogs
retire calling me a dog no let me finish my thought before you jump to conclusions matthew
classic capita cut i demand satisfaction another dueling but so bomb sniffing dogs once they retire
like the owners have to like hide shit everywhere or else the dogs are depressed.
Yeah, they go crazy.
Because they're like pleasure center of their brain is to be able to have that satisfaction.
Right.
Like hide bombs?
Yeah.
No, to find...
Sticks of dynamite.
God damn it.
Jars of...
Grant, I liked it.
I liked it.
It's a good analogy.
You have like, you have that pleasure center.
It's like taking a cigarette for the first time in five years so let me get this straight you're calling
me a dog who smokes matthew always is a smoking dog you can tell he sets out to sabotage you yeah
like everything that you say he is a habitual line stepper
um why you had to be had me give me lung cancer and a short alarm span. Jesus.
So you wake up the next day, and even though Minderhall's Cathedral has been consecrated or is going through a consecration process with Farron and her new acolytes,
every time you come back here, you feel certainly better than you felt the first time you came here.
feel certainly better than you felt the first time you came here, you all wake up feeling very, very strange, like you didn't do what you were supposed to do.
Oh, no.
No.
And it's just this nagging feeling that like the skull told you to do something and you
did not get the job done as fast as humanly possible.
So that's just kind of something that's sitting with you. And Pembroke, you're remembering more
about devourers. And oftentimes they're like spellcasters who are so intensely evil, their
mind gets warped by the arcane,
so much so that their souls get pulled into an outer plane,
and what's left is this remnant of a being.
So maybe that's what happened with this guy.
Other times they're created by powerful magical rituals,
maybe as a punishment.
You did get the sense that this creature was sad.
There was a deep, deep sadness in him,
a longing for something, for his children,
for maybe his family or something.
So maybe it's more along those lines,
like this guy was forced into this through some sort of ritual.
But the whole idea of how devourers come to be
is very piecemeal at best no one really knows for
sure um but it's dark dark magic dark magic indeed uh can i do a retroactive sense motive
on his last utterance to see like what kind of what was behind it sure Sure. You know what I mean? Yeah.
24.
24.
The only thing you could probably take away from it is that he blames Skirkotla for what he became,
why he was there, maybe eternally tied to that room.
He blames Skirkotla for something.
We'll just ask Skirkotla when we find her.
Yeah, like, hey, that guy said why?
What was that about?
What'd you do to that dude?
Are you really the head of the cookie?
Four Bears, you, you, you,
even though you wake up with this nagging feeling
like everyone else does
that you haven't done what you're supposed to do,
you leveled up.
Whoa!
Oh, my God!
While defeating the Devourer.
Holy shit!
You level up.
Wow.
And so you feel a little bit more powerful
in that moment where it took your soul
and you were able to stand fortuitous
and fight against it.
It's almost as if your spirit wardens
have guided you and given you more power
so you are now level 12 nice that's awesome that would have been really sad if you died
yeah oh my god and he would have said it too he would have been like you were one experience
point from 12 i thought that was it and it was the first thing I was going to say. Oh, my God. Oh, wow.
But as you prepare to head back to this tomb,
you still feel like you have failed in the quest that was given to you
by Akargrim, the animated skull that told you what you were supposed to do.
Oh, God, who could forget him?
You started going north.
Yeah, I was taken by it.
I just thought that, like, I could rest.
I thought the most important thing was killing the guy.
I didn't know there was a time limit.
But you didn't do it with all haste until the job was done.
You pulled back and you rested.
And so because of that,
all of you have a permanent, unremovable minus three
to every single one of your ability scores.
And we'll see you next week.
What?
What?
Okay. I'm not even joking around. All right. That's week. What? Okay.
I'm not even joking around.
All right.
That's cool.
Minus three.
Well, I won't see you next week.
Enjoy the new cast.
Enjoy the new cast.
Great.
Great.
Come back.
Come on.
Awesome.
