With as much Pathfinder as we play, and as we have played over the past three years, five years, six years, two things really amaze me.

We've regressed. Problem is, like, we get, some things we get better at, but then it throws new stuff at us. Yeah. And then we have to be terrible at it again before we get better. That's kind of our thing. You've said before, Skid, we all have certain blind spots for certain rules, like, no matter how many times it comes up.

But, like, I feel like we never notice the other person having that blind spot no i think our i think all of our collective blind spot is each other's blind spot right no you just get used to playing things a certain way and it just doesn't occur to you that you're doing it wrong even when you have been corrected you still revert to it right right right well throwing things in the mix that we do correct each other and oftentimes we correct each other with wrong information yes so it's very confusing it's complicated game it's the blind spot leading the blind spots yes but i mean we are also um i think part of the reason is we're a little distracted because we are having fun not taking a test right so we're not spending the whole time thinking about taking a test. I think Matthew disagrees. He's not having fun.

is that Giant Slayer will be the first Pathfinder adventure path that we will play to completion. You want to debate me on that, Joe? How do you mean? Well, because I don't think any of us have completed a Pathfinder adventure path. No, we haven't. No. I mean, some of us have played through book six of a pathfinder adventure path

that's true but uh our council of thieves game played books two to six right you skipped one we skipped books one because we walked in with characters that were third level and you flew through six because you were like i can't do this anymore i was having a kid right you're having a kid so you just went actually that's not really Like, book six is a full sandbox, and the players chose to... They were so dominant that they were just like, boss. Right. They were just like, let's do it. And it was a tough fight, but they won it.

Without any of the prep work of book six. It was amazing. Just scan through. So you pretty much play Council of Thebes With five and a quarter books Five and a eighth books Four and a quarter Four and a quarter Four and a quarter books

We could just finish it. It's like the guy whose kidney just blows out in mile 21 of the marathon. You know, he's been training for a year, and it's just like, boom, right at the end, you collapse. Bummer. But Giant Slayer will probably be the first one. I say probably because, I mean, one of us could die in real life. Because everyone of us could. least that's true no see troy was thinking that he might die yeah i might go and he can't imagine a scenario where life goes on without him oh we we do it without him i'm very sick you were saying at the start of the episode you were having a very hard time breathing. My theory that I also pointed out at the time was that right before we recorded, Troy crushed a souvlaki sandwich with a bunch of french fries in it. Well, that's the way they serve it.

brought some frost worms that almost killed you, back more prepared took them out then took on this horrible bone creature then in a decapitated savatharim known as a doulahan and then a skull in a room dedicated to like giant hunters basically it had shades of Nargrim Steelhand's tomb, in a way, you know what I mean? Like all these giant hunters, but it's in reverse. It's like a reminder to giants. It's a trophy room.

Yeah. It's a trophy room. These are the ones we beat. Right. Remember them. But the skull tells you, I challenged Hurin Springbane to single combat,

and he blindsided me. All his guys took me out and killed me and he came back a hero and has now been granted eternal life go cut off his head bring it back to me here's my axe but it was all a lie no wait that part was true you don't know i forgot the retroactively, and I told you, you're pretty sure the skull was telling the truth. When has a skull ever lied to anyone? What are the tells of a skull? I know.

It's hard to read. He did adjust his glasses and the brim of his hat. That's why they sweep all the poker tournaments in Vegas. Those giant, floating, purple, yelling skulls. Yeah. Vegas. Those giant floating purple yelling skulls. Yeah. When the skull

Well, the head, which now is intrinsically linked to John Benjamin, tells you go north and to the east, to the Vault of Ignobility. Do not go west. Do not go west, young man. So you head north. Thou shalt count to three. You leave that giant great hall where you fought the Dullahan, and there's like a mini antechamber before you come into this huge room with a sunken space. It'd be a great living room. It's really, it just needs a little fixing up.

It needs a couch. Like a fire pit in the middle. L-shaped couch. Straight out of the 60s. I don't know where you'd put the TV, but... Shag carpet. Because there's doors on there. And then, of course, doors leading to the east and presumably to this vault of ignobility where Hearn Springbane now lives eternal.

And my axe axe and mine axe and my axe you walk into this room and you see the door and you realize that this sunken part is about two feet down and you're like not interested in that it's all black down there uh let's just skirt our way around this pillar. There was discussion about squeezing.

And I said, well, out of combat, don't worry about it. And right when four bears got past it. We should have known. This eerie voice came right into your minds telepathically. Ah. I think I forgot it was telepathic. Maybe I didn't say it. But it was telepathically.

Where are my children? Where is she? I await them all eternally as this crazy-looking creature who, I think I said something to the effect of, like, its ribcage looks like it possesses some sort of thing inside of it, a living skull, if you look at the image. It's like MODOK or Kang. Yeah, it's got flowing white hair, this Fu Manchu that blends into this beard, white hair everywhere, claws.

It's a large creature, and it just floats over the sunken living room. Horrifying. I guess we should just roll for initiative. I guess we should. I mean initiative. I guess we should. I mean, this is why we come to play the game. We gotta kick it off. Kick it off with a little Anish. Anish!

I just saw a thumbs up from Grant. There you go. That never bodes well for my guys. That's what we need. A good one from Bear. Bear! Bear! Bear!

Of HP By taking the constitution bonus. Right. When I leveled up. I had like 11 hit points left when I was standing at the end of the other battle. Oh, wow. So that would have taken me below zero. So it's like, it's tough in here.

This is not good. This is not a room you want to go unconscious on. Even Baron is in danger. Yeah. That's when you know it's serious. We need help. It is Pembroke's turn. This creature right now threatens Pembroke, Baron, and forebears with its reach.

Only Feyraza is out of its reach. Before I do anything else, I'm going to do a knowledge check. Okay. I'm going to do a knowledge religion check. You earned it. That is a 22. 22. I give you one piece of useful information as well as its name.

Does it have any resistances? Does it have any resistances? It does. It has a lot of them. Ones that fall under undead immunities. For it is an undead. It is a creature known as a devourer. So it's immune to all the things

that undead tend to be immune to. Ability drain, bleed, death effects, disease, energy drain, exhaustion, fatigue, ballista ozone. Mind affecting. Mind affecting. Non-lethal damage, if you want to just knock it out. Does it say it there, mind affecting? And question it later, yes. So yes,

it has undead immunities. Okay. Devourerourer so pembroke is gonna shout out it's a devourer try to kill it don't marry it whatever you do sage they make notoriously bad spouses. Uh, so Pembroke moves away. He's gonna move one, two, three, four, five, six. He's gonna move away like 30 feet. Okay, that would provoke unless you're double moving, because it is... Oh, hell yeah. Ooh, baby. And that is... Alright, and I cast the caster level check. Yep, little spell resistance

check. Ooh, that's a... That is a 29. You're alright. Okay. You're alright, Pembroke. And... A And reflex half for me? Yes. DC 19. DC 19. Got it. Okay. So that's 32 total. So 16 points of

electricity damage. 16 points of electricity damage. I have a question. I'm just going to throw it out there to you and to the room. Okay. This particular spell goes in a 120-foot line. Would that then if, let's say Feyraza was like

on the ground, because Feyraza's flying, but if Feyraza was on the ground, would that go straight through him and hit Feyraza as well? It would, depending on how it was angled and if it was... The size of the creature affects it a lot, right? Because you could hit it in any number of squares. You could pick any square the creature is on a lot right yeah hit it as i could you could pick us any square the creature is on so like his upper left square would not hit fair as a in a straight

line something i'm thinking about with lightning bolt because yeah that's uh regardless i'm up in the air you're up in the air yeah i was just curious oh that's interesting okay and he's descended and this guy is down but he's like hovering off the two foot floor he's hovering right above that uh the two foot presumably he's like hovering right above that two foot. Oh, no. No.

And it's just this nagging feeling that like the skull told you to do something and you did not get the job done as fast as humanly possible. So that's just kind of something that's sitting with you. And Pembroke, you're remembering more about devourers. And oftentimes they're like spellcasters who are so intensely evil, their mind gets warped by the arcane, so much so that their souls get pulled into an outer plane, and what's left is this remnant of a being. So maybe that's what happened with this guy.

Other times they're created by powerful magical rituals, maybe as a punishment. You did get the sense that this creature was sad. There was a deep, deep sadness in him, a longing for something, for his children, for maybe his family or something. So maybe it's more along those lines, like this guy was forced into this through some sort of ritual.

But the whole idea of how devourers come to be is very piecemeal at best no one really knows for sure um but it's dark dark magic dark magic indeed uh can i do a retroactive sense motive on his last utterance to see like what kind of what was behind it sure Sure. You know what I mean? Yeah. 24. 24. The only thing you could probably take away from it is that he blames Skirkotla for what he became, why he was there, maybe eternally tied to that room.

He blames Skirkotla for something. We'll just ask Skirkotla when we find her. Yeah, like, hey, that guy said why? What was that about? What'd you do to that dude? Are you really the head of the cookie? Four Bears, you, you, you, even though you wake up with this nagging feeling

like everyone else does that you haven't done what you're supposed to do, you leveled up. Whoa! Oh, my God! While defeating the Devourer. Holy shit! You level up.

Wow. And so you feel a little bit more powerful in that moment where it took your soul and you were able to stand fortuitous and fight against it. It's almost as if your spirit wardens have guided you and given you more power so you are now level 12 nice that's awesome that would have been really sad if you died

yeah oh my god and he would have said it too he would have been like you were one experience point from 12 i thought that was it and it was the first thing I was going to say. Oh, my God. Oh, wow. But as you prepare to head back to this tomb, you still feel like you have failed in the quest that was given to you by Akargrim, the animated skull that told you what you were supposed to do.
