This week on the Glass Cannon Podcast...
I am going on record as saying,
Joe is correct.
You have to have a cleric.
They're all gonna die.
They are all going to die.
An ancient trap has sprung.
Let me get my D6s here.
I should have done the old index card
like I did the many moons ago against Galabras.
But the party must find a way to stick together. Nesta, would you
like to go to the altar with me? Let's
see what we can find up here. Lexington, are you
proposing, mate? Is that your funny little
way of proposing? In the face
of even greater danger.
You feel a lashing out.
Chug, chug, chug, chug, chug, chug, chug, chug!
Oh, shit. Oh, shit.
Oh, my God. The adventure
continues now. Stop your grinning and drop your linen.
It's time for another episode of the Glass Cannon Podcast.
What's going on, everybody?
My name is Joe O'Brien, and I like to open shows with lines from movies that Troy does not recognize.
It is a pleasure to talk to all of you today.
As you can see, I'm very excited.
As you can't see, I'm dancing right now in front of the microphone.
And that is because I have got some exciting news.
You remember last week, Troy was like, I got some really exciting news.
And he posted about it and he got you all hyped up for it.
And then he told you that we're going to Gen Con.
And that is very exciting.
But I have more exciting news and it's different and I didn't post about it because I like surprises.
I like it to just come out of nowhere.
Well, guess what, guys?
You're getting an awesome surprise in this intro but not before I have to do some really boring, stupid business stuff about this RSS feed. So you know for a couple weeks we've been talking about this, and it's just in case some of you are having a problem with it.
I know most of us are fine, but just for those few that are having problems with the migrating RSS feed, just give me a second.
In a couple weeks, we're going to be removing the episodes page from our website and replacing it with something different.
We're going to be removing the episodes page from our website and replacing it with something different.
In the meantime, if you haven't already, please go to our website, glasscannonpodcast.com, and check out the announcement bar that's at the top of every page.
The URL that it links to is the URL you need to subscribe to with your RSS feed reader or podcast app of your choice. Or, even easier, you can click on the subscribe button in our new media player for any of the episodes
and subscribe directly via whatever app you use to subscribe with, with just one click of a button.
So hopefully anyone else who is having a problem with the migrating RSS feed will get that figured out.
But it sounds like most of you are okay, so I'm not too worried about it.
On to my big news.
This is some exciting stuff.
For the first time ever, the Glass Cannon Podcast is going to do a live recording event in New York City.
That's right.
That's right.
Saturday, April 15th, 2017 at 11 a.m. at the Geekery HQ in Astoria, Queens, New York City, where the Glass Cannon podcast is based.
We will be running a live game that will be recorded and published and you can be there to see it in person.
This is mind-blowing to me and I'm so excited about it.
I don't even... I don't want to promise too much,
but I really hope it comes together as I imagine
because it'll be an awesome event.
Please let us know if you would like to come.
Shoot us an email at glasscannonpodcast at gmail.com.
The game store is not that big.
It's sort of a small venue.
So if we know that we're going to have
a massive amount of people,
we can try to work in massive amount of people, we can
try to work in some additional stuff so that we can just spend more time with you guys and hang
out with anybody and everyone that wants to come out and meet us and watch us record a live show.
That is all the details that I have for right now. There will be more details coming,
but for right now, save the date, Saturday, April 15th, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Geekery HQ in Astoria.
More details to come.
Man, Troy was right.
2017 is going to be a great year for the GCP.
I can tell this already.
You know who it's not going to be a great year for?
Baron.
Oh, man.
That explosion!
I...
Well, you know what?
Why don't you just listen to it?
I'm going to let you listen to
what happened right now.
Please, everyone,
enjoy episode 88
of the Glass Cannon Podcast,
Altered States.
You know, it's getting real hard doing cliffhangers every single week.
Every single week!
Not with the situations we put ourselves in.
No, no, you guys make it slightly easier.
Have we ever not ended on a cliffhanger?
I feel like there's been some celebrations like,
and you win, we'll see you next week,
but maybe only a couple.
It's never been like,
and then you have a nice meal and go to bed.
We'll see you next week.
Can I just say,
if you didn't want to end on a cliffhanger,
you literally have 100% of support in this room.
That's true.
But there's enough fun in that.
I'm just confused because I thought
the adventure was over
after we killed
Gristlecrack
who was the storm tyrant
that's true
that's true
I don't know why
we're still going
this is all homebrew
this map
just was extemporaneous
off the top of my head
I closed my eyes
I'm really enjoying
this epilogue
the 200 episode
epilogue
really the 200 episode epilogue really the game
the adventure path
ended in episode 3
and then from here on out
it's just
yeah this is just
all post script
this is like
the end of the
there's all these
endings of the
Lord of the Rings
happening
we're actually all
figments of
Ruby's imagination
the daughter
she shakes the snow globe
yeah the end is just
Ruby with a snow globe.
Everybody have a good week?
Everybody keeping up
with their New Year's res?
Nope.
Nope?
Nope,
Skid says confidently.
Nope.
Skid,
you look like you're
very,
are you reading
the New York Times?
What is that?
I'm looking at
Umlo's character sheet.
Oh,
we got Skid as Umlo
this week.
So you're going to play
Umlo for all of five minutes after this explosion.
Yeah, probably.
I mean, he's only got, what has he got?
How many hit points has he got?
46 or something.
Yeah, see, this is ridiculous, man.
I think the idea was to give Umlo to Skid so he could do a dramatic death scene, right?
Because he is the best actor.
I'll do that.
And Joe wants to hear the northern accent.
Yeah, I want to hear the northern accent.
You know what I would like to hear in the northern accent?
His inner monologue as we used the scroll of restoration to bring Nestor's hit points back up.
Who's always in the back row.
And not Umlo's hit points.
Me, Skid, go.
The strongest melee fighter.
Nah.
I want to hear Skid argue them back and forth between Umlo and Nestor.
Yeah, I'll do that.
That bloody toothless bastard.
I want to go on record
and saying as I've prepped ahead
for who knows how many episodes
depending on what you guys do, I
am going on record as saying Joe
is correct. You have
to have a cleric in a group of scientists.
I think you're right.
I thought that you couldn't,
but as I read ahead, I'm like,
oh man, they're all going to die.
They are all going to die.
Yep.
And it isn't just healing hit points.
You said this before.
It's not just healing hit points.
It's all those spells that heal those lingering weaknesses.
They're also just a really good multi-tool.
I mean, who knows what situation we'll encounter. I mean, how many times have we wanted to speak
with dead, and we can't.
Stone shape, all stuff like that.
My backup character is actually based on
Dr. Oz, so I'm excited to
bring him out. So are you going to peddle
us snake oil?
Yep, yep, yep.
So,
you might as well get to it here.
You guys have been winding
your way through this valley.
When you started, you know, after Lucratas and after the Drake and whatnot,
you came to your first real fork in the road, as it were.
You could go to the northwest.
You could go to the southwest or the southeast.
The Veds were sitting in front of the southwest sort of passageway.
But you decided, I'm going to continue going north.
North and east.
North and east.
So as you went farther north, it really turned into just east, but you're going into the
northernmost passage.
And so now you've traveled east, you find a campfire.
You see remains of a body, most likely one of the people from Shinnerman's Fortune, possibly.
You know, drag marks that they've been dragging these prisoners back and forth.
Then you find Gristlecrack and demolish her and her trolls and moss trolls.
You know, you've gone, I think only once you went north a little bit and didn't find anything.
You only lost about two hours in the journey, but you've had a couple times where you could
go south and you were like, no, let's just keep going east.
But then you got to your next northern passage and said, we're all about going north.
So you went north.
And eventually you found this chapel.
This ancient chapel.
Dedicated to a fire giant god.
Zirzwater.
Did we know that? Yes. We knew the name?
You see a heavy-browed countenance of a giant on one of the menhirs
surrounding one of the two balconies.
But it's empty. There is vegetation everywhere that just gets
thicker and thicker as it goes deeper towards the altar. It's a
recessed sanctuary,
and then at the end, stairs going up,
leading to an altar full of verdant tangles.
In front of the altar, a huge fire pit.
Pit.
You, pit!
A huge fire pit in front of the altar.
And then there's a door to the right.
And outside of the door is like brownish sludge and muck coming out of it.
You guys spend a good three hours deciding who's going to go through,
finding Sir Will on top of Lexington.
Who drew the short straw.
Drew the short straw.
Poor Lexington.
No problem.
You enter the room.
You're detecting two different sources of magic.
One is coming from the south side of the room.
You go down there.
I believe it was Della and Baron.
Find a coffer.
Nestor unlocks it Find a coffer.
Nestor unlocks it in a jiff.
You find a magical bag that's like beyond your spellcraft abilities, at least for the day.
And then there are some geodes at the top of the room.
Baron starts cracking into them.
And it's glowing with like a milky white light.
Starts to pulsate. Della's like, let me see if I can help you out with that.
I can't figure it out.
And all of a sudden, boom.
Della, Umlo, and Baron roll a reflex save.
No!
Oh, that's good.
That's a good jump.
Joe, you're going to win an Emmy for best sound work.
By the way, nominate us for an Emmy. Joe, you're going to win an Emmy for best sound work. Yeah.
By the way, nominate us for an Emmy.
Yeah, come on.
By the way.
Everyone do that right now.
Pause the episode.
Is there a cash reward for that of any sort?
That'd be nice.
I think it's huge.
I think it's a huge cash prize.
We can retire and just play half my role then.
Just want to break even on the cost of our new hosting.
Baron, would you roll?
You're welcome.
I'd like to point out, I think a few episodes ago, Joe said,
God, I just hate looking over at Grant rolling all these double-digit numbers all the time.
Look at this natural one.
Oh!
Baron!
My gun is broken.
I'm dead.
It's all over.
So unless it's a spell, spell-like ability, Or poison, which I don't think these geodes are
Then I rolled an 11
It is
A type of spell situation
So you give yourself a bonus
13
Fail
14
Fail
17
Fail
Oh no DC 20 reflex save 17. Fail. Oh, no.
DC 20 reflex save
for half.
It's a trap.
Wow.
That was nice.
Lay it on me.
Let me get my D6s here.
1, 2, 3, 4,
5, 6, 7,
9,
10 D6s. Oh, no. 3 4 5 6 7 Oh my god 9 10
D6
Oh my god
Oh no
I'm not gonna die
That's all I know
A delayed blast fireball
Explodes
In Baron's hand
Oh what if the sludge catches on fire?
What if the sludge catches on fire?
Oh my god
It's like gasoline
Maybe that's what it is
Putting out fire with gasoline.
I see a bunch of sixes.
I see at least four sixes.
Guys, pause for a minute.
Are you joking?
A couple fives.
No, I see four sixes.
Oh my god.
I see a couple of fives.
Only one won.
Oh shit.
Because that's how I do.
Isn't our house rule that you re-roll all ones on those rolls?
Troy's gonna roll.
It's like Shadowrun.
43 points.
Oh my god!
I think...
Oh my god.
Barely.
And Will is outside of that.
Oh, barely, yeah.
Will is just outside of that 20-foot radius.
Because right before the end, Will was like,
I go to the center of the room, and Nestor was on the door the whole time.
Della was opposite the door,
but came over to help.
Oh my god. I think Will's eyebrows got
singed, though. He's going to look like a serial killer
for a couple of minutes. Maybe Lexington's
like, lifts up his arm, just like,
the force of the blast. Can you imagine
if all the brown caught fire?
But it does not.
43 points of damage.
I should have done the old index card
like I did many moons ago against Galebras.
Yeah.
Oh, my God.
Will is going to immediately ride over
if stuff isn't on fire
and it's just an explosion
and their bodies are just burning.
For flavor's sake,
you fall to the ground.
Everyone is just, boom,
Nestor just blown up.
Back against the wall. Like an action is just, boom, Nestor just blown up. Into the corner,
blown back.
Back against the wall.
Like an action movie.
Umlo is just like,
oh,
like he's burned
almost to death.
Right.
Dello will, like,
reach over and cast
Cure Light Wounds on Umlo.
Sweet.
Will just,
he hears like a ringing
in his ears.
He's like,
and then he pushes himself up
and starts to stumble over
to the rest and looks at the damage.
I mean, what is Della at?
At 31.
Okay.
Oh, man.
Oh, my God.
Della's going to do an infernal healing metamagic on herself.
Classic.
Why don't you let Will annoy you?
So over the next two minutes She heals up a little bit
Oh man
Clothing is burnt up
Flesh is a little seared
But obviously with magical healing
It starts coming back
So I'm assuming Baron doesn't look quite as bad
Less than half of your hit points, right?
It is less than half, but you know
He'll lay on hands, umlo
And gives him
God Five Oh Jesus For God's sake So that happens Lay on hands, Umlo. And gives him... God.
Five.
Oh, Jesus.
For God's sake.
That happens.
2d6 plus one.
So as you're doing that,
Umlo kind of weakly reaches out to Della and says,
Can I have a bit of that demon's blood love?
And Della does it with the metamagic wand.
20 points.
Here's a question about the universe
that I've never quite thought about before
so you get hit by a fireball
obviously your clothes are not magically protected
they're going to burn
does magical healing heal your clothes
or are we just walking around in tattered rags
it's the incredible hulk rule
you can't show your naughty bits
after you turn into the incredible hulk
good question, something I'd pondered before
but never cared enough to continue thinking about it
well I think there's something to be said for magical fire It's a good question. Something I'd pondered before, but never cared enough to continue thinking about it.
Well, I think there's something to be said for magical fire.
It's different.
It operates a little bit differently.
It only singes flesh, but not cloth.
I don't know.
And acid.
But we're wearing armor, too.
That's true.
Presumably that doesn't get burned up. You played a woman.
If you were to take your armor and whatnot off,
you probably all look pretty terrible.
Your clothes are tattered.
You all look like barbarians with your armor off.
Well, that's probably a lot of what we do
when we camp is just
kind of like sewing our clothes.
Mending our clothes, yeah.
I just like the guy who played a woman who could fly
and died fighting a dragonfly
above a bottomless pit.
Questioning the singeing power of a fireball in this game. fly and died fighting a dragon fly above a bottomless pit.
Questioning the singeing power of a
fireball in this game.
I'm just curious. What are the rules?
Are we all naked besides our armor?
I think we should talk about it for the whole
episode.
Oh, Matthew.
We wouldn't end on a cliffhanger
at least.
At least we'd end at a point where no one cared.
Everyone would stop listening.
Della removes her breastplate and we'll see you next week.
Your clothes are in tatters.
We'll see you next week.
No!
Fuck you, Troy!
Fuck off!
Fuck off, Troy! Fuck off, Troy!
Fuck you!
We spend a week waiting to find out
we get hit by 10d6 points of damage
and I have one question about the world
and I'm sorry I've derailed the entire episode.
Well, that'll teach you.
Baron's going to quickly reach up into the sky
and say, Toreg, grant me health.
And he's going to cast Cure Light Wounds on himself.
Is this your first spell you've cast on yourself?
Or cast, period, now that you've taken this Inquisitor level?
I mean, it depends if Touch of Law is a spell.
No, it's a spell like Ability.
It's magic.
You can use Detect Magic or something.
But yeah, that's very interesting.
So you guys see Baron heal himself.
Yeah.
Wow.
Wow, this is very impressive.
It's an interesting development.
So do you guys need to do any more healing?
I'm sure.
Umlo, how much hit points is he?
Umlo used, was that Umlo's first time using demons?
Yeah, yeah.
I believe it was.
Yeah.
But desperate times, desperate times call for desperate measures.
And he's down 13 now.
13 hit points.
You need some more Cure Light Baron?
Sure, yeah.
Might as well get ready for that. I know I'm not dead
and Joe hates using healing potions, but...
15 points of healing. That's amazing.
Two wands.
And Della will wand herself a couple times.
So what else do you guys want to do now? You're healing up
from this explosion.
This empty chamber.
And I said before, it's in such a state of disrepair,
you can't even tell what this...
Yeah, Will's going to say, step away from the geodes.
They're a weapon of some kind.
Perhaps they were used as... thrown by a catapult.
No, open another one.
Destruction.
Open another one.
Nesta, no.
Nesta, no! Nesta, no.
No, there's no...
You don't know that they'll all do that.
Are the others still intact, is my question.
They are.
Okay.
But, you know, they all...
The ones that you opened all have that milky hue in there.
Roll a knowledge arcana.
Can I do it?
Yeah, anybody over there.
23.
Not enough.
Yeah, something just isn't right.
It just doesn't make sense.
If this is, you know,
dedicated to a fire god,
something's not adding up,
but you can't quite put it together.
Anybody else have knowledge of our canon?
Just religion.
All you know, at least,
is Baron. That's not what's supposed to happen.
It's supposed to happen.
Okay.
There must be another way to open these G.O.s, but I agree with Sir Will.
Nestor knows a trap
when he sees one.
Can we check the others for traps? Is that
something we could do?
The unopened ones.
Step away from them, Della.
Not really.
There's no need to continue exploring.
They're very dangerous.
Step out of the room, please.
I'm trying to mend my clothes here.
Can we get out of the room?
Yeah.
All right, let's get out of the room.
Okay.
Back out to the main hall.
All right, so you guys all move out of this little chamber of death.
Seriously.
Back into a huge
chapel. You are on the
north
east portion.
Maybe about, you know,
30, 40 feet away from the stairs leading
to the altar. And on the opposite
side of the room are the two staircases
leading up to balconies, pulpits that overlook the sanctuary. Will on the opposite side of the room are the two staircases leading up to balconies,
pulpits that overlook the
sanctuary. Will would like to do a
perception to see if that rustled anything, that
noise, that explosion. He's looking up in the rafters
to see if anything's moving
at all.
I'm sorry, 18.
18, you look up.
You don't see anything. Listening, don't hear anything?
Nope.
And remember, the only thing you saw in here was bones of animals and giants
mixed in with the tangles of the greenery.
So there's no other doors out.
There's just the stairs up to the upper level, right?
Yeah, there's two stairs that lead up to balconies level right Yeah there's two stairs that lead up
To balconies right and then there's
The stairs that lead up to the altar which is just
An altar and a fire pit which you haven't gone to yet
Alright well
Um I'm like well
I don't know
Check out the fire pit altar there
I might have lost
To be honest
Me too I don't even know
I suggest we check out the altar as well.
What was the point of that bloody room back there?
I don't know.
I can't wrap my head around it.
It's odd.
Nesta, would you like to go to the altar with me?
Let's see what we can find up here.
Lexington!
Are you proposing, mate?
Is that your funny little way of proposing?
Will actually laughs.
See?
I got him.
I got him.
See?
You sent a humor.
No, you didn't.
And then I like,
clasped my smile down.
Fair enough.
All right, so yeah,
we're going to go check out the altar.
All right, is everyone going up there?
Sure.
Yeah.
All right, so you guys all head up there
and you see this wrought iron frame
of a fire pit in front of you.
And you see the altar, if you don't remember from last week, is engraved with a giant helm with large or huge fangs.
That's what the altar is, like facing out in front of you.
Oh, wow.
And you are on the stairs leading up to the altar.
I'm going to check for traps.
30.
You do not detect any traps.
Okay.
You are about probably 60 feet from the back of the room,
but you're pretty safe.
In front of you, you don't see any traps. Like, you're right safe. In front of you, you don't see any traps.
You're right next to the fire pit, and you don't detect any traps.
You feel pretty confident about that.
It's all vegetation everywhere.
It's not difficult terrain.
It's just thick.
Who did we hear from that was talking about the cathedral?
Was it we filtered through the Sherman's Fortune survivors?
Yeah, they mentioned it. They mentioned hearing about a cathedral. But that's where they were Sherman's Fortune survivors. Yeah, they mentioned it.
They mentioned hearing about it.
But that's where they were taking the tributes.
No, is that right?
Yeah, pretty sure.
I'm just wondering if there's some sort of like...
Because then the dragon...
I believe it was reiterated that the dragon
was taking them to the cathedral from Gristlecrack.
Oh.
I thought.
So I'm just wondering if there's like
some sort of extra planar energy going on here.
Like, can I do a knowledge planes?
How can I detect for that?
Sure.
I mean, do a knowledge planes just to see what you get.
27.
You don't detect any sort of planar influence.
Like, you know, certainly this fire pit was not used to open up any dimension door.
It seems very rudimentary.
And this was just a place to praise
the fire god. Will is
going to say under his breath, he's going to say,
Iomedi, protect me.
And just start going up
to the altar, trotting on Lexington
up past the brazier and
up. Just like the front of the
altar? Yeah. And while he's doing that,
Nest is going to search through the fire pit, see if there's anything in there.
Okay.
Baron and Della.
What's Baron doing?
Baron's also interested in the fire pit, I think.
He wants to, you know, after seeing that campsite with the dead bones,
he's looking for similar behavior along the way to see if there's any human stuff.
What about Della?
Della will go with Will to protect him.
Della will go to protect Will.
Interesting. And what about
Umlo?
Umlo stays where he is.
So Umlo stays at the, you know, on
the... Umlo's like, I'm not getting near
anything. He's permanently
afraid of fire. You right,
bastards.
Bastards. So yeah, bastards. You bastards.
So yeah, I'm almost saved on the stairs leading up to the...
Using the restoration spell on someone else?
I'm the steel hand,
goddammit.
Will will turn to Della as she comes up
behind him and just say,
Della, you, are you alright?
I'm fine. I'm worried about Umlo.
Your voice is very deep.
I've taken up smoking, you know.
I was just burned by 43 points of fire.
I was just very badly burned.
There's a lot of smoke in my lungs.
Smoke inhalation.
There's a lot of smoke in my lungs today.
It seems your infernal healing did him a lot of good.
He seems kind of oddly perturbed by it.
Turns back around.
And he's looking at the altar
So while these guys are looking at that
I don't want to look over the altar
Umlo is kind of ashamed
And he kind of like
Tilts his head down and looks away
Okay
So perception checks
Yeah roll a
Roll a perception check
24 11 Yeah, roll a perception check.
24.
24?
11 for Will on the altar.
18 for Nestor.
23 for Baron.
So Nestor and Baron are looking in the fire pit, and it hasn't been used in a long, long time.
Actually, I'm sorry, can I do a knowledge religion to know if this seems like a sacrificial sort
of thing? Like where you would
burn people as a sacrifice
to a fire giant god?
Sure.
Yeah, go ahead.
Knowledge religion.
24.
You don't get that sense. It's a
worship of fire.
So yeah, you guys looking at the brazier, You don't get that sense. Okay. It's a warship of fire. Okay.
Yeah.
So, yeah, you guys looking at the brazier, you don't find anything in there.
It looks like it hasn't been used in a long, long time, and the craftsmanship is like, you know, the iron rods are bent.
It's pretty decent craftsmanship and big, as you can see, obviously.
And then Della and Sir Will, are you, like, circling the thing?
Are you looking on the front?
What are you guys doing?
Yeah, I'm doing, like, a full examination.
Full examination.
Being careful, but, like, walking slowly, but looking all around it.
Like, praying for protection from Yomadai.
Della, are you staying with him?
Are you guys, like, fanning out?
We'll fan out.
Fan out.
Are there things on the altar, or is it just...
No, it's just, you know, maybe? Maybe these are like a rusty chalice
or something. A giant sized
chalice. Nothing in it.
He chose poorly.
The front of it...
The front of it
is this fanged head.
And Sir Will, you're looking at it
and you look back up at the
men here and you maybe you've never the men here and you, maybe you've never even
thought about this before
but you realize that this fire giant
resembles a dwarf.
What?
Really.
And if you say that aloud
or start to put two and two together
it's like the fire giants
are giant dwarves in a way.
Whoa.
Because it looks like
the countenance of a dwarf. Beard
and whatnot.
Della and
Will, you start fanning out, looking for
anything. You see a rusty cup.
It's getting thicker and thicker and thicker.
As you come around the back
of the
altar,
you feel a lashing out
as a giant fly trap
Oh, whoa!
Whoa!
comes out and starts snapping at Will and Della
and your perception check.
Was it living in the back wall?
It was living in the tangles on the floor behind the door.
Oh, wow.
With its 31 stealth.
Neither of you saw it.
Wow.
Roll for initiative.
Oh, man.
Holy shit.
Oh, my God.
Look at this thing.
I say giant flytrap.
That's what it is.
This is a huge creature in Pathfinder.
Oh, my God.
Oh, that's deadly.
Oh.
Roll for initiative. Oh, my God. Oh, that's deadly. Oh, my Anish.
There's an Anish.
And it will get a surprise round.
Oh, I'm very concerned about this.
Because we all know what fly traps do.
Yep.
And we historically have fared very poorly against plants.
That is so true.
Now this goes back to the Tendriculus.
Oh, God, don't even mention that horrible plant's name.
And the tree that ate Gela and Lork.
We never do well against it.
Oh, yeah.
We never do well.
And this thing has mouths all over it.
Mouths and, like, arms whipping out.
All right, Anybody over 20?
Yes.
23. 24 for Nestor.
Sorry, 23 for
Nestor, 24 for Baron.
No, 24 for Nestor.
And 23 for Della, but Baron wins.
Umlo and Sir Will?
18 for Sir Will.
What about Umlo?
Oh, they're skitters.
What's his bonus? Plus 2, I believe. It's 9. 9 What about Umlo, their skitters? What's his bonus?
Plus two,
I believe.
It's nine.
Nine,
so Umlo.
Yeah,
yeah,
yeah.
Surprise round.
The fly trap
goes to bite.
One through three,
Della.
Four through six,
Will.
That's a live die.
It's a one.
It's a one.
Oh, look, it landed right between my cords there.
Nothing like a fly trap.
It's a natty Della.
It goes to bite Della.
Della, no!
30.
Della is going to enact an immediate action.
Oh, Della!
To cast Windy Escape.
What? What are you doing, Della! To cast Windy Escape. What?
What are you doing, Della?
Windy Escape?
Can you do that while flat-footed?
I believe you can.
I was reading up on it today.
Can you take an immediate action
while flat-footed?
That is the question.
So I respond to an attack
by briefly becoming vaporous
and insubstantial,
allowing the attack to pass
quote-unquote, harmlessly
through me. Basically, I get DR10
magic. So magic is the only
thing that can cut through. Yes.
It also makes me immune to poison, sneak
attacks, or criticals. Ooh, poison. That's good.
That's dope. Do you become incorporeal?
Partially. Partially.
I think it's like Gashat's form. You become partially
incorporeal. Alright, well, it hits
you. Yep. And it does 12 points of damage, so you only take 2 points of damage.
Wow, that's huge!
That's great.
That was a great use of Windy Escape.
Now here's the question.
Can it use its free grab attempt on you if you're in this state of...
Well, yeah.
I mean, if it hits an attack and it hit.
Yeah, if it dealt damage, right?
Yeah.
But I'm not going to do it.
Okay.
Because that was a cool spell, and it makes a little bit of sense that it wouldn't be able to grab you.
I'm also not going to do it because it's round one, and it's its turn again.
Round one.
Four attacks.
Oh, no.
I have another question about Windy Escape.
Is that it for the day on Windy Escape?
Is it like a spell slot?
It's a spell slot.
It's a level one spell that I can enact.
It's not like a per day ability.
No, no.
I like those spells.
You don't see them too often with immediate, with a casting time of immediate.
Those are great.
That's a good use.
Now, what we discovered back when we looked this up is that means I can't take a swift action this round.
That's right.
So that was a surprise round. So does that, I mean, in round one I can't take a swift action this round. That's right. So that was a surprise round.
So does that,
I mean,
in round one,
I can take a swift action?
Yeah,
surprise round
is its own thing.
Now it's round one.
Perfect.
Fly trap.
Four attacks.
Oh no!
First,
and so you're still
in corporeal now?
Or is that just
for that?
Duration's instantaneous.
I'm back to corporeal.
All right. First attack on Della.
That's really cool.
29 to hit.
That hits.
That hits Della for 12 points of damage.
All right, now tell me about the grab.
It attempts to grab with a...
I'm assuming it grabs you.
31?
You assume correctly.
31.
First mouth grabs Della and holds onto you in its mouth.
And then all the remaining attacks earn a minus two.
All it sir will.
I'm going to attempt to grab you with the last attack and see if I can hold two.
All right.
First attack, 22.
Miss.
Dodges it.
Second attack.
Out of the way.
Lexington.
26. Hits. Hits for a Second attack. Out of the way. Lexington. 26.
Hits. Hits for a 26.
Nine points of damage.
Hup, hup, hup, hup, hup, hup, hup.
And now
Natty, 19.
Oh, man. Oh, no.
Yeah. Definitely hits you.
Four.
Ten points of damage.
And now I realize, if it goes to grab you,
it has to release Della.
So I'm going to hold on to Della.
Nestor coin.
Alright, Nestor
quick draws his bow.
And for the first time ever,
goes into his quiver and
pulls out two arrows.
Oh, many shots!
Pulling back many shots.
Ooh!
Oh, boy.
After studying it,
19.
19 misses.
Two arrows just hit the back wall.
And second shot,
23.
Hit.
I hate these fucking dice that have symbols on them.
It's just like, cue!
It's a six-sided die with all these runes on it.
That's like when you go to a public restroom and you're like,
I don't know which one's the men's room.
Yeah, I just want to throw this fucking die away.
Another hot dog.
By the way, I just want to throw the picture of a hot dog and a fucking guy away. Another hot dog. By the way, I...
17 damage.
17 damage.
I gave Skid that dice as a gift.
Yeah, I really...
Great fucking gift, man.
That was a groomsman gift from me.
Oh, were those the rune lords?
The rune lords dice?
Yeah, it's like,
what a crappy fucking gift.
Thank you.
I appreciate the gift.
I just wish that... Seriously, what number
is that? Look at that.
Oh, that's awful. It's a rune
for the highest number on every die. That's a six.
So a rune is always the highest number on the die.
Well, that wasn't on the ten.
Alright.
Alright, Baron. Oh, I tin. All right. All right.
Baron.
Oh, I should have kept it.
I rolled a six and I threw it away.
You threw it all away.
Just because you can't read runes.
Yeah.
Oh, my God.
Sorry.
Baron's controller is too busy getting over that rune reaction.
Baron reaches up into the sky, seeing how insane this guy's, the fly traps uh the attacks are he wants to stay away he remembers the battle with the bramble bright he has bad memories of vegetarians so i
have these terrible recollections of the bramble bite bramble blight fight that we had with a
in the vault of thorns and and Baron reaches up to Torag
and says, grant me the long
arm of your hammer, and he
casts Longshot on himself.
Oh!
Talk to me about Longshot. Longshot will
increase the range of any weapon I hold
by 10 feet, which allows me to stay
30 feet away and still hit
against Touch AC. Oh, that's awesome.
Beautiful. So you're in range right now.
Yeah, so I'm going to take one shot if I can.
Uh, yeah. Wait.
Is the spell a standard action?
Yeah. Oh, right, right, right.
Okay, so I'm going to stay where I am because I'm 30 feet away.
Okay. The altar
will say is enough that you guys
can both range over
it, I guess. So I think you guys
are okay. I'm ruling it as
you are okay. Baron, cast
a spell. Della!
Uh, can I do a knowledge check on this guy?
Sure! While, uh, in the throes of
its bite. I know. Nature?
Uh, yeah, good little knowledge. Nature.
Oh, he dropped it!
Crack die. That dies on
crack! Center crack.
17. Crack his wife. dies on crack. 17.
17.
You don't know anything.
Okay.
Della is going to cast Burning Hands.
Nice.
Ooh, Della. Now, do you need to be, when you're grappled like that, can you do somatic components when you're grappled? Can't you do anything that
would require one hand? If you are
grappled, you have to make a
concentration
check equal to the
I think the CMD of the
creature, or
15 plus the CMB.
It's...
I wish I knew this was going to happen. Here we go.
Concentration check is 10 plus the grappler's CMB. I wish I knew this was going to happen. Here we go. Concentration check is
10 plus the grappler's CMB.
Yeah, okay, 10 plus...
When you're grappled or pinned while casting.
This is the first time I use the GM screen.
10 plus the grappler's CMB.
You want to try it?
CMB or CMD, did you say?
CMB. 10 plus the grappler's CMB.
Which is lower.
Or I could try to break out, right?
Or you could try to break out.
All right, I'll try to break out then.
Okay.
So roll a...
Escape artist?
Yeah.
20.
No dice.
You don't even move an inch.
That's a move action?
That's a standard action.
To escape a grapple.
Okay.
Della. Della just had an explosion. action to attempt to escape a grapple. Okay.
Della.
Della just had an explosion and now she's
Della. It's what's for dinner.
Sir Will.
This thing, three of its heads.
Two of them hit you.
Alright, Sir Will is going to see
Della getting grappled
by this thing and
he's got his sword out and fearing for her life. He's going to try to stayled by this thing, and he's got his sword out,
and in fearing for her life,
he's going to try to stay out of this thing's claws
so he doesn't become irrelevant.
And he is going to first challenge the creature
and use a cavalier challenge for the day.
Okay.
And he's going to be like...
He doesn't even know what to say.
Put my Della down! And he's like, I don't even know what to say. Put my Della down!
And he's like, I'm not yours!
He will challenge the creature as a swift action,
and then as a standard action,
he is going to enact divine armor
and use that prayer that he was saying to Iomadai
on this ancient religious altar,
and the Asgrscross armor starts glowing
and it now has the
champion property. So
I get plus two to
AC against this guy.
Oh, alright. That may keep you up.
That was the standard action.
This is another one of those instances I want someone to draw this.
I want to see. Yeah, I'd love to see.
He's holding the sword up in the air.
Robert Atkins. calling Robert Atkins.
Get out of that, Robert.
You would die.
Protect me from this creature.
Omlo.
Omlo, I guess he just double moves to try to get as close as he can.
He'll go around the right-hand side.
Oh, wait.
Yeah, it goes around the right-hand side.
Towards where Della is?
Yeah.
All right, so he's got double moves.
He can go 40 feet.
40?
Okay.
Okay, so wow.
Omlo, it's going to take him a couple rounds
even double moving to get around the
bend. Round
two. Fly trap.
It will attempt
to maintain the grapple
on Della.
And if it does, it will
engulf her.
Natty 19.
Always with the 19s!
You're engulfed!
It engulfs Della.
And Della, oh boy.
Alright, so it just, you guys see, it eats Della.
And Della takes, oh boy, 14 points of regular damage.
Uh-oh.
And as you get inside of it, your skin starts burning with its stomach juices, and you take
nine points of acid damage.
Oh, what?
Inside the belly of this thing.
Nine, you said?
Nine of acid.
So 14 regular, nine acid.
She is just being eaten alive by-
Della is in rough shape.
Oh, boy.
Oh, my goodness.
Now, Della, let me give you a little idea of what this is.
It's a little different than other things.
You are at risk of suffocation right now.
Oh, okay.
Great.
My favorite.
It's a special form of pinning.
You can escape the same way you can from being pinned.
So you might want to start looking at that before your next turn.
But since the engulfed creature, Della, is contained wholly inside the plant's jaws,
the flytrap's victim cannot be targeted by effects or attacks that require line of sight or line of effect.
Make sense? Like you guys can't cast a spell to help Della that require line of sight or line of effect. Make sense?
Like, you guys can't cast a spell to help Della
that requires line of sight or line of effect.
So you are pinned inside of it
as its digestive enzymes begin eating you,
and you are now at risk of suffocation.
Nestor Coyne, you see this happen.
All right.
Yeah, he's quite interested in freeing Della
so he's going to do
another double knock
he's like fuck
he's got to work this time
right
there we go
beautiful
32
32 hits
okay
oh show
alright so
do this
oh shit
okay
oh shit
oh my god
I rolled max damage
oh my god you rolled max damage.
Oh, my God.
You rolled max damage? Yeah.
Again, it's the runic die.
That's a good die.
Yeah.
What a good gift, Joe.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Thanks, man.
Okay.
So 16.
Oh, sorry.
26.
32.
50 points of damage.
Oh, my God. Della may yet live. 32. 50 points of damage. Oh my god!
Della may yet live!
And that includes the shocking damage and everything.
Yeah, that's a shock and all.
So that was the many shot.
Yes.
They both hit.
And here's my second attack.
Oh my god.
24.
24 hits.
Yes.
18 damage.
So you just did 68 points of damage.
In one attack round.
That's amazing.
Wow.
I can't believe, I rolled max, I rolled four dice.
Every one of those four dice.
Every single die was max.
That's fucking awesome.
Wow.
While I read about suffocation, Baron, you're up.
You just cast to extend your range.
And Baron sees little deputy Della stuck inside of this.
Little death.
Her star fell out, and it's sitting in the tangles.
And he's kind of glowing with some embers of, as I mentioned last episode, kind of the equivalent to this fire god, as you've re-emphasized
by saying the fire giants look
like dwarves. And he just lets
his gun fly.
Like, pow, pow, pow, with his hand on top of it.
Rapid shot three times.
Yeah. Up close and deadly.
Yes. Don't roll a one.
Don't roll a one. 19.
That is a hit.
Hits.
Matthew's like doing the Pledge of Allegiance, holding his heart.
Ooh.
21 points of damage.
Second attack.
Wow.
15 against touch AC.
15 against touch.
Hits.
Nice.
Six, eight.
18 points of damage
Okay
And the last attack he's not going to do up close and deadly
So he can keep a grip point
Okay
That's a hit
16 points of damage
Nice
Holy shit
You guys just decimated it
But it's still alive
Della
There's like leaves and shit flying off of it but it's still alive. Yeah. Della.
There's like leaves and shit flying off of it.
One of its mouths falls off.
So what are Della's options here?
To try and escape the pinned condition.
It's not like cutting your way out with a light weapon like the Tendriculus, for example.
You have the pinned condition.
It's a special type of pinned condition.
In that you are in the giant mouth.
So am I in its mouth? I haven't been swallowed.
I'm in the giant mouth.
So I've been enclosed in that?
Yeah, that's what it is.
The enzymes are going to dissolve you
eventually and then it's just going to suck
what's left and maybe spit out your
carcass. But you're not being swallowed
into its belly. You're being held in its mouth
while its digestive enzymes melt you.
Okay.
Della is going to
cast Burning Hands
and I'll attempt these. It says
if I'm pinned, the regular pinned condition
that my concentration check is
DC 10 plus the CMB plus the
spell level.
Which is pretty tough. Probably 20 plus there, right?
Well, whatever.
10 plus the spell level.
Would you like a bottle cap?
I've got it right here. Concentration check. Grappled
or pinned. No, he already said it.
He just doesn't know the CMB.
The DC is secret. So you go ahead and roll.
Bottle cap would be great
but only if you want to give it up.
Uh, nah. I love it! be great, but only if you want to give it up.
Nah.
Great.
I love it.
I do, but what I doesn't. Wait, let me ask you this before you do it.
Does this spell...
No material components.
Does this creature have somatic components?
This creature is dead, Sville.
It must have somatic.
I believe it does, but this is a special...
I'm looking right here.
A pinned creature cannot cast any spells that require a somatic or material component.
But there's language in the spell that accounts for being pinned.
So I think it's okay.
Hang on.
That's strange.
No, no, no.
I think it's just...
It's the suffocation.
He's looking up concentration check rules,
not the spell.
I was looking up the pinned rules.
Well, yeah.
But I'm saying it wasn't under the spell.
I've got this beautiful Pathfinder grapple flowchart.
Oh, yeah.
I use that all the time.
At the bottom left corner,
a pinned creature can't do all of these things.
I guess
then her only option is to
try to escape. Okay.
Della just...
Natural
two. Oh no.
Oh no, Della! Della's just burning
alive. Now her clothes are missing.
Can't you
draw your scimitar, though?
It was already drawn, but
if I can't use a somatic component,
how could I swing the sword? But you have one hand free, right?
You could do anything that's grappled.
Pinned is different, I think.
It's more complicated.
Pinned is a more severe version of grappled.
I'm just trying to figure out what Rick Moranis
did in this situation.
He shrunk his kids. Those are the out what Rick Moranis did in this situation. He shrunk his kids.
Those are the only two Rick Moranis movies I know.
All right, Sir Will.
Sir Will is going to pray to the heavens and ask Iomadai to guide and aid Della in getting out of this horrible situation.
and aid Della in getting out of this horrible situation. And he's going to cast a new paladin spell,
which he has prepared, called Liberating Command.
Oh, I thought you were going to say called Liberace.
Called Liberace!
Della hears faint, very dramatic piano music
from the organ in the chapel.
He's going to say, Della, try again!
You immediately get
an escape artist check
as an immediate action
plus 10
it's double my caster level
so your bonus
plus 10
and you get it for free
right now
you don't need line of sight
right that's just calling upon
I don't know
I just
you tell me if it's not relevant
it's no I'm going to tell me if it's not relevant.
No, I'm going to let it happen.
It's pretty cool.
Might not have line of effect.
It knows where she is.
Yeah, yeah.
You know where she is.
She can stop here.
Matthew.
20.
Are you shitting me?
Natural three.
I rolled a natural two.
Jesus, man. Natural three.
You were on quite a roll, my friend.
Well, it doesn't matter.
Matthew, give Joe his dice back and take yours.
Joe, the trading dice idea didn't work.
Umlo.
Can Umlo
charge?
Can he? Can he charge?
No, the altar's in between.
He could set himself up for a charge
next round if he walks to the bathroom.
No, he's just going to try to get in position
to do a full attack.
Okay. He's got 15 foot reach. I think he only needs to take a get in position to do a full attack. Okay.
No, he's got 15-foot reach.
I think he only needs to take a five-foot step.
So you can attack, man.
Oh, then I...
I think he can take two attacks.
He had to move at least 10 feet.
So you can take one giant attack.
Okay.
That's 24?
24 hits.
All right, no low.
Let's do... That's 24? 24 hits. All right, now low.
Four.
Eight points of damage.
He's very weak.
Eight points of damage, yeah.
He still has ability score damage.
Sapped strength, so Umo just finally gets around and just still has yet to crit with Heart Spit.
Round three.
Stella, what are you sitting at for hit points?
22.
22.
Which I believe is what I took in damage last round.
Oh, boy.
All right, so it will do some biting.
Let me check out its reach.
Its reach is 15.
First bite on Umlo.
21 to hit Umlo.
That is a hit.
It's a hit on Umlo.
Yes.
Hits Umlo for 10 points of damage.
Second attack on Sir Will.
22.
Miss.
Third attack on Umlo.
Miss.
Fourth attack on Sir Will.
Natural one.
There we go.
With your AC, what it is, it might be a fumble.
Let's see.
Another natural one.
It fumbled on its fourth attack.
It releases all grappled creatures.
Oh, it's called Don't Pick At It.
Grant?
Gross.
I stopped a long time ago.
You take one point of con damage.
Oh, okay.
I think we can all relate to that.
I'm low.
Nestor.
All right.
Not a great round for the fly trap,
but Della's losing her air within the mouth of this thing Every time Della tries to do something
It makes it even harder
She's taking up more air in that space
She may only have a few rounds left
And it is Nestor's turn
There's no acid in there
The acid doesn't continue I don't believe
That's what I was checking to see if you keep taking
Acid damage
Seems odd
Alright it's gonna do another Double knock attack checking to see if you keep taking acid damage. Seems odd. All right.
It's going to do another double knock attack.
Natural 19.
That's a hit.
Oh, my God.
All right.
Not as good this time.
28 points of damage.
Nestor winds up, hits it, and kills the giant. Boom!
All right. Well done, Nestor. Della, the mouth opens up as it falls kills the giant. Yeah! All right.
Well done, Nesta.
Della, the mouth opens up as it falls to the ground
and Della stumbles out like...
Barely breathed.
Will is going to jump off of Lexington to the ground
and immediately channel positive energy.
Whoa, that's not what you'd see if he died.
There we go.
13 healing.
Thank you.
I mean, Nestor and Baron, round two, just took it.
I mean, you guys, I think you did 100 points of damage between the two of you.
Yeah, in one round.
Almost.
Della is, like, pushing all the goop off herself and is trying to breathe in.
She casts
infernal healing on herself. You alright over there,
love? I've been better.
Can I get you anything?
Go away. Well, I'll stay here.
Della, you sure have a hell of a
thing for getting stuck in plant life.
And she backs
away very quickly from where
the plant is.
Oh, man.
Wow.
That was a humdinger.
That could have got ugly.
Yeah.
That could have got ugly.
That was the...
Your guy's damage output is completely absurd.
That is insane.
Well, it's always those single creatures in an encounter
that just deal just massive damage
and have all those attacks.
Yeah.
Right.
I mean, this is where ranged characters is going to save Adela,
is going to save a Sir Will.
Yeah.
But that could have easily gone wrong.
And also, say that altar was 20 feet tall,
and then both of you have to come within line of sight of it,
and then within its reach,
then it starts attacking and eating the ranged characters.
Let's say Baron and Nestor decide to go search behind the altar,
and Will and Adela search the fire pit.
Then your ranged characters get engulfed.
Yeah, yeah.
Good job, guys.
Sweet.
Della, you lost your groove.
What do you guys want to do?
So I would get the sense that this thing is an intruder, basically,
that it just got overgrown in here because of how long it's been dead.
This has no attachment to the chapel in any
actual significant way, right?
Roll a
wisdom check.
Wisdom. Check.
Nine.
Nine.
It seems deliberate,
but you can't
fathom why or how.
What do you mean by deliberate? Like, it's meant to be here?
Yes.
Whoa.
So we had a trap and, like, a guardian.
Is there something behind the...
Where the trap was?
Yeah.
Behind where the fly trap was?
No, it's just, it's like a mossy wall
covered with vines and tangles.
Della's going to take her flaming scimitar
and kind of hack at the vines.
Hack, hack, hack, hack, hack.
And you see the stone wall.
It's actually built right into the cliff face.
So it's a mixture of stone and cliff face in the back.
Baron wants to do a quick knowledge nature
to see if these things move in pairs,
if they have mates,
if they're different from normal animals,
like if there could be any more
within this chapel.
That is a 17.
Not that you would think.
Okay.
Yeah.
Probably a solo thing.
Probably a solo thing, yeah.
Della, when you were in that thing,
did you see anything shiny or metallic?
Della just looks at him
and just shakes her head and just ignores him.
Oh, he's too dark.
So he starts cutting it open.
Let's see if there's anything in there. Cuts it open and
yeah, it's just a plant.
It's blood, obviously.
Well, he didn't eat anyone wealthy.
A tragedy.
A tragedy.
Yeah, that's the real tragedy, isn't it?
Putting two and two together,
now it makes sense why there was giant bones
and animal bones all over the place.
It was feeding on intruders.
Yeah.
Yeah, that's what I was thinking.
But it moved throughout this whole place?
It could do that?
Ever so slowly.
Ten feet per round.
So I am going to go up to the...
I'm going to check around the back because I didn't really get to
check the back of the altar right because they
sprung the fly trap
um
25
unless it's a trap
looking just on the wall or the ground as well
like everything yeah just around the back
part of the altar there
you do find you don't see a a trap or anything besides the wall,
but you do find a magical piece of wood.
Oh.
Mixed within where it's, for lack of a better word, nest.
So this looks a bit special.
Would one of you like to see what it is?
I'll spellcraft.
Della will do it too. this looks a bit special. Would one of you like to see what it is? I'll spellcraft.
Della will do it too.
Ten.
Twenty-five. Well, that'll
do, Della. It, uh, one of the
branches, uh, Nestor finds
is a sapling
rod. Whoa.
The rod appears
to be the limbless trunk and branching roots
of a miniature tree.
It grants its wielder a plus five competence bonus on survival checks to get along in the wild and keep from getting lost.
Hmm.
Like a...
Divining rod.
Exactly.
Additionally, the wielder and any allies within a 20-foot radius of the wielder gain the benefit of the ranger's woodland stride class feature.
Oh, wow.
Cool.
Yeah, and there's all sorts of fun things you can do.
You can thrust it into the ground and let it stand for an hour,
and it grows into a large tree bearing edible fruit.
That's great.
Oh, this is great.
And you can consume an entire piece of fruit
to gain the benefits of either a cure moderate wounds
or lesser restoration spells.
Are you fucking kidding me?
Oh, my God.
And then is it done?
Is that a one-time use
or does it shrink back down
and go into one day?
I didn't even read this.
Or can you cut
little branches off
and plant more trees?
Consuming a piece of fruit
from a sapling rod
is a full-round action
that provokes the Daxman.
Like you're going to be doing this
in the middle of a fight.
Grow! Grow!
Damn it! Hurry!
And no single creature
can benefit from
more than two pieces of fruit
from a single blooming.
A sapling rod can bloom once per week, and after doing so reverts to its original state.
Holy shit.
That's amazing.
That's awesome.
Plant a tree.
Trees for America.
Would lesser restoration help with your damage?
No.
No.
Strain.
Yes.
We need restoration.
But it's pretty fucking cool
you have a tree
yeah that's very cool
you can just plant around
yeah that's great
but what do you
but what do you use it for
just the like
ranger benefit properties
it's not
it doesn't act as a
as like a rod
whoever
no whoever holds it
gets a plus five
on survival
so it's all non-combat stuff
right
very cool
very cool
but yeah I like how it says
if you do it in the middle of combat
yeah like of course it's going to perfect.
Let me just plant this tree.
Well, how long does it take?
Does the tree grow in, like, a round?
An hour.
It takes an hour.
I hope this combat, you plant it during a siege.
It's a good combat, a long combat.
All right, so Nestor's checking the back wall.
What are the rest of you guys doing? Baron reaches into his chest and moves away kind of the holy text of Torag
and feels the mummified dwarven hand that we got from Grizzlecrack.
And he touches the ground to reach out to see if there are any other creatures touching the ground.
Ah, using Tremorsense.
Tremorsense. Great use of that. And no, you don Ah, using tremorsense. Tremorsense.
Great use of that.
And no, you don't detect anything within the radius of tremorsense.
Okay.
What is that radius?
I don't know.
60 feet?
Yeah, 50 feet.
The plant has it.
So, I mean, this one has tremorsense 60 feet.
I believe it's about 60.
But, yeah, you don't detect any other life forms.
Will's going to circle
the wall, the whole surrounding
wall of the, whatever you call
the whole raised area. The apse.
The apse. Up on the raised area.
Very dangerous. He's doing perception checks along
the wall for any doors that go into
the back somehow that are covered by the lichen
or something like that.
15. You don't see anything.
So what's, there isn't upstairs, right?
No, there's just two staircases
that lead up to balconies
overlooking the sanctuary.
Huh.
Okay.
We always forget,
but let's take a good picture of this map.
I'm pretty proud of it
and I think the fans would like this.
Yeah.
Just to see how small you guys are
in comparison to Grant's die.
Yeah, so Nestor checks back there.
You know, you rolled higher than Sir Will.
You don't see any traps.
You do find the sapling rod.
Sir Will, you search the perimeter of the dais,
you know, walking around.
You don't see anything.
What is Della?
I mean, Della's recovering.
What is, you know, Umlo? Will is going to apologize is Della? I mean, Della's recovering. What is Umlo?
Will is going to apologize to
Della that the
liberating command didn't work. He's going to be like,
I'm sorry, I never
cast the spell before, and I'm
not sure what happened. I felt
its power. It wasn't your fault.
I couldn't breathe. I couldn't
cast any spells. It was helpless.
It must have been terrifying.
You can tell she doesn't really want to talk about it.
It really affected her.
She has a new claustrophobia.
Della, do you want to talk about it?
No.
No.
Will has bad instincts.
Bad instincts with women.
I can tell you're upset.
Yeah.
Can we check for secret doors around here?
I mean, can I grab one of the doors?
Yeah, they were kind of doing that.
But yeah, feel free to check.
But Umlo, Umlo's going to do that.
Umlo, I suggest you check the parade.
Baron and Umlo should be doing those because you guys are dwarves.
Delamal aid.
21.
Baron. He doesn't. because you guys are dwarves. Della will aid. 21. Baron.
He doesn't.
20.
You are aided.
22.
All right.
So Della aids Baron.
Umlo unaided.
22.
Baron, you can give yourself another plus two because sure enough, there is a secret door.
You walk
around, do the same thing Will did,
and you don't see anything. But as you get
on the far
easterly wall, so close
to... The same side as the
exploding geodes. Right, the door that leads
to the exploding geodes, you find
a secret door
in the little tiny bit of wall between
the altar and the recessed sanctuary on the
north eastern portion of the sanctuary.
Oh, wow. Aaron presses on it.
And it opens up into
a chamber that sort of like arches around.
Oh, wow.
It goes around behind the altar, yeah.
Perception for any further vegetation?
Or is this vegetation-free?
Vegetation-free.
Okay, so...
This one is veggie-free.
Baron waves the party over and says, let's go down here.
I don't think it's going to be trapped.
We can check if we want, but it's
secret. You guys find the secret
door. Baron waves everybody
through. Who's going first?
I can go first.
This narrow corridor curves
around the north end of the chapel, and it's
covered with dust, whereas the rest
of the room was... So cool!
So Indiana Jones. Yeah, totally.
You would think, Baron, that this is apparently laid undisturbed for centuries.
Oh, baby.
I feel like Howard Carter.
And no lettering that we've noticed so far or anything like that?
No, it is bare and, like, I mean, dust.
You could pick up a clump of dust.
So it's basically behind the whole wall of the apps.
It goes all the way around.
Oh, that's so cool.
All the way around the apps.
Baron's going to, as he walks down,
tell everyone to wait a second.
And he's going to
pull out the
giant spinning crossbow,
load it,
and have it at the ready.
It's like Scooby-Doo Mysteries.
Yeah, and Will behind is going to light a torch.
I just imagine it's dark in there.
Is it dark or is there light coming in?
Yeah, it's pretty dark.
So he's going to...
Yeah, it's totally dark, whereas the rest of the room is well lit by the holes in the ceiling.
And the sun coming in is pitch black.
So he's going to sheathe his sword and light the torch and hold it up on top of Lexington.
It's musty.
The air is thick.
How high are the ceilings in here?
The ceilings are only about 15, 20 feet high.
Okay.
And you guys keep walking around.
And on the other end, the far end of the passage,
you see three large spherical stones with a rough textured black surface.
They're about two feet in diameter.
Let's all crowd around them and crack them open.
Adela is going to, she's behind Baron Isom
and she puts her arms up and just stops the movement.
What is it, Adela?
What's ahead?
Can I detect magic?
You may.
Do I?
And...
Della detects magic.
And you have...
You sense a strong evocation aura.
Oh, yeah.
Coming from the stones.
Fireball.
Fireballs.
Okay, yeah.
So she shares that.
And can we check for traps?
I mean, I don't know.
I don't want to leave them alone. Nestor, want to check for traps? I mean, I don't know. I don't want to leave them alone.
Nestor, want to check for traps?
Yeah, I'm going to take a check for traps.
These geodes, Della, what could they be used for?
29.
What are they doing here?
29, you don't detect any traps whatsoever.
Well, I don't know. So it's different than the previous situation with the other bulls
Right, they're a little bit smaller in diameter
They don't look like they're as heavy
But they're still probably 700, 800 pounds each
And they would need to be harvested
Honestly, it looks safe
Hard on us to say
I'm sorry, harvested?
What do you mean? Are they growing?
Well, they're geodes
Like you found in the other room.
And when you tried to harvest those, it had a milky white light.
Well, we tried to crack those open.
Right, but cracking them open was to harvest them, and you guys were putting them in the bag.
But we could potentially just try to get rid of what they're attached to the ground for
and put them into whatever unidentified magical bag we have.
Sure, they're 750 pounds each. There's three of them.
Yeah.
I mean, the bag, I think, we don't know because the spellcraft fell, but it doesn't hold an
unlimited amount of weight.
No.
Can I spellcraft the stones?
No.
No.
You're just getting a strong evocation aura from the stones themselves.
I wonder if they're just like explosive cannonballs or something.
Yeah.
That's what I keep thinking.
Part of the defense.
Also, think about the situation.
You guys walked in here, went through a door to your right, and found these stones.
Baron's like, Geodes, I got this.
Crack, crack, crack, crack, crack.
Explosion.
You search around.
You kill a plant guardian, a giant Venus flytrap.
Take care of it before it kills Stella.
Then, as you're leaving, you find
a secret door leading behind the
altar and find three
more geodes.
Evocating a strong...
Emitting a strong evocation aura.
Will is going to be confident that if you don't
mess with them, they're not going to explode.
And he's going to go up and see
if there is a door past
them back into the main area.
Sure, and if you ask your best stone-cutting people to roll for that?
So it's a dead end.
That's a 34.
There's no door.
Huh.
So this is like the armor, like the storage facility for the...
Engineering to see if these
three geodes
are linked to the structural integrity of this
building in any way. Being that
if they exploded, the place would
collapse or anything like that. Okay, you can
roll that.
That is a...
20. No, these are just three stones
that you can crack open and harvest.
Or you could, if you were really strong, carry three of them around.
I think we should try to crack them open,
because our only other option is to just leave them here and go home.
You think if we, could we use them, if this is built into the cliff face,
do you think we could use them to see if it could bust into some sort of other cavern?
Well, we can't even move them.
Well, if we crack them open,
you'd think that we're right up against the cliff face right now, aren't we?
More or less.
Yeah, I mean, you've got about 10 feet between.
But even if it was a delayed blast fireball again,
then it wouldn't do anything to damage the structure.
I could potentially use some of my black powder,
which is not involved with a paper cartridge, but I carry around for slower reloading, to lead a trail to kind of try to set them off to see what happens.
I mean, don't we want to harvest them?
Like, don't we want to open them and get the benefit of what's inside?
Sure.
Because I think what happened with the other ones, what we determined was that We fuck something up with the other ones
And there can be good that comes from them
Alright, we can attempt to harvest them
Will will do it
Solo
I mean, he's basically at full hit points
So he's willing to take the risk
Yeah, I think
I think Will will do it
I mean, there's some significance to these things here
They're hidden for a reason
And I don't think that it's just...
It's not to trap people, because why would it be hidden here?
There must be some benefit, I would think.
But we have to know how to do it right is the thing, too.
Right.
But, I mean, go for it, man.
What does everybody think?
Harvest or no harvest?
Crack it open.
Yeah, I want to know what's in them.
I just want to know if there's maybe some other way to open them.
There's still a little bit more of this trap we haven't seen yet, so we could try to look there.
But I'm okay with cracking them open other ways.
Where's everybody standing?
And who's doing it?
We'll do it.
And everybody can stand 20-plus feet away, including Lexington.
Standing way back.
All right, so I can just picture this. It's a long, thin corridor.
Lexington.
Standing way back.
All right, so I can just picture this.
It's a long, thin corridor.
So if it's Umlo and Baron and Della and Nestor,
like two by two with maybe Lexington behind them,
and you're all 20 feet away watching this little halfling in full plate,
just...
Della will cast...
Every once in a while, she's like wincing.
And nothing happens.
Is it the red wire or the blue wire?
Red, exactly.
Della will cast light on the hammer so he can see, and then run away.
No, he's got the torch.
I like the dim Indiana Jones vibe.
And hammering at the same time?
Well, he just sets the torch down.
Eventually, after a while...
Deny my help.
You're not very strong, but you do crack it open.
And inside you see deep red crystals that seem to burn with an inner light.
You know, like the Arkenstone.
But are otherwise non-magical.
Huh.
Fire crystals.
Fire crystals.
What do they do?
Find out next week.
Oh, man!
You're fired!
And they're not magical?
You're fired! You're fired! Outro Music you you you got scared you got him that was my goal You got skinned.
You got him.
That was my goal.
Save it for air.
One, two, three.
Check.
I just saw like a big spike.
I think that was maybe the clap.
The clap.
Yeah, it was pretty big.
You know what they say about the clap.
Just try it.
And the way it spikes. Don't tell anyone about it before you sleep with them.
One, two, three, check.
Yep, just try to not yell directly.
Do your mic.
Okay, I'm telling you, give me the point.
you know it's getting real hard doing cliffhangers every single week
