And now for a behind the scenes look at the making of the lesser dead, featuring the team
of directors, producers, and writers who helped create the series.
There are many examples of stories that end with our heroes not winning from Thumbnail
Louise to 300 to all sorts of stories in which you're
rooting for people that ultimately don't end up with everything they want. Executive producer,
Mark Stern. I personally am attracted to stories like that because I feel like the Hollywood ending
where it's all happy talk all the time is fine I understand it I want it myself as an audience member, but I find this ending to be more interesting and complex.
What is really important for me about the audience is to really connect with these characters and their struggles,
to really feel for them and their connection to each other,
to care about them, and to understand that this is really allegorical for the other,
that even though there are people that we don't connect with or understand
or that are outside of our personal experience, they have their own stories to tell,
their own truth, their own humanity, to connect with.
A good end-backed, that nobody's perfect, right?
There's a particular small scene towards the very end of a series where Joey has the encounter
with the young girl who's the painter.
Suddenly, I'm tired of hiding.
I don't care.
I got no defenses.
It's like she charmed me. Yeah, go ahead. She puts her finger
under my lip, gently touches the tip of my fangs, like I'm one of those drug lions on
Wild Kingdom. You're not just cold, you're starving.
It's a reflection of the most human-ness, both of the non-vampire character and Joey himself, right?
And her interaction with him is so tender and so beautiful and so sad.
For the first time I read the script, it took me by surprise, Director Dan Blank.
I was trying to figure out what I would say the real moral of the story might be, and
you know what I came up with was, you know, love and be loved, be kind to everyone, be
selfless rather than selfish.
He doesn't go to oblivion.
He doesn't go towards negative space. He doesn't go to blackness or a vacuum.
He goes to hope. Appreciate humanity. Enjoy the sunshine. Embrace life. Because you never know
when it could all be taken away.
The lesser dead bonus episodes were produced by Kinsey Clark and J.E. Peterson, edited and mixed by Tyler Morissette and narrated by Ryan Nathaniel George.
I don't know where I was.
