Today we're talking about Hurricane Adalia, fall sports, drones in Russia, and other top
news for Friday, September 1st.
Stay informed while remaining focused on Christ with The Pour Over.
Here's the quote of the day.
God loves you just the way you are, but He refuses to leave you that way.
He wants you to be just like Jesus.
Max Lucado.
Let's get started with some espresso shots.
Hurricane Adalia hit Florida with unprecedented force Wednesday. The not-so-lovely lady made
landfall as a Category 3 storm over Keaton Beach along Florida's western Big Bend coast
after briefly ballooning to a Category 4. Adalia boasted winds over 125 mph and 16-foot storm surges, bringing significant damage
to the Sunshine State before continuing her destructive path across Georgia and the Carolinas.
Yesterday afternoon, Adalia went back out to sea as a tropical storm.
Hundreds of Florida residents have been plucked out of floodwaters, with some residents having to swim out of their windows to get to safety, and over 300,000 people lost power in Adalia's wake.
Three deaths have been attributed to the storm, two Florida men lost their lives in weather-related car accidents, and one Georgia man was killed by a falling tree.
We're asking the Pour Over community to join us in supporting hurricane relief efforts.
We're matching the first $3,000 given. Just email a screenshot of your support to news

Our match is going to Convoy of Hope. They're a faith-based non-profit with a record of doing
great work in disaster relief. Convoy of Hope is a paid partner of the pour-over. James chapter 2,
verses 15 through 16 say, If a brother or sister is without clothes and lacks daily food and one
of you says to them, go in peace, stay warm, and be well fed, but you don't give them what the body needs, what good is it? With crisp fall air around the corner,
for some, fall sports are upon us. To close out their first week of games, Nebraska women's
volleyball set a world record. The five-time NCAA champions won all three sets against UN Omaha in
front of 92,003 fans at Lincoln's Memorial Stadium,
making the match the highest-attended women's sports event in history.
A crowd of 91,648 at a 2022 Champions League match in Barcelona previously held the record.
Meanwhile, the kicking and throwing of oblong balls on college campuses will commence in
earnest this weekend, with all roads leading to January 8th's College Football Playoff National Championship in Houston.
Stories to follow include Georgia's chance for a three-peat,
Deion Sanders' Colorado coaching debut,
and the matchup of the weekend, No. 5 LSU against No. 8 Florida State.
Here's a verse to consider whether your favorite team wins or loses.
Why, my soul,
are you downcast? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God.
Psalm 42 verse 11. Nations across the eastern hemisphere are exchanging weapons. Wednesday,
Ukraine launched the biggest drone attack on Russian soil since the war began. Drones targeting Moscow and surrounding regions were
mostly shot down, causing little damage, but a strike against Skav, Russia did damage the city's
airport, destroying four military transport aircraft. Also Wednesday, the Kremlin fired
missiles and Iranian-made drones on Kiev, Ukraine,
killing two security guards in the largest strike on Kiev in months.
In the Russian-held Ukrainian city of Bakhmut,
six Ukrainian troops were killed when two helicopters crashed during a mission.
Meanwhile, North Korea wants to trade weapons for cash with Russia.
The countries are actively advancing negotiations.
The U.S. condemned the deal,
which would violate a number of United Nations Security Council resolutions and threaten sanctions to further weaken Russian currency. Here's a verse to consider when your opponents
are gaining strength. Some trust in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name
of the Lord our God. They collapse and fall, but we rise and stand
upright. Psalm 20, verses 7 through 8. Today's episode is sponsored by Element.
Rob Wolf, a biochemist, New York Times bestselling author, and member of the Navy SEAL Resiliency
Committee, started doing Brazilian jiu-jitsu because, you know, he's clearly a slacker.
When he told his trainers
he felt depleted, they simultaneously said he needed electrolytes. And Element was born.
Element is the tasty electrolyte drink that gives you everything you need and nothing you don't,
whether you're doing jiu-jitsu or just writing emails. That means a science-backed electrolyte
ratio, 1,000 mg sodium, 200 mg potassium,
60 mg magnesium,
and no sugar.
Element is giving the pour-over listeners
eight single-serve packs free with any order.

In other brews, here's a rapid round of updates.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell appeared to freeze for about 30 seconds on Wednesday after reporters asked whether he'll seek re-election in 2026.
The 81-year-old had a similar lapse five weeks ago. McConnell's
staff said he felt lightheaded. The congressional physician has since cleared him for work,
but some members from both parties are calling for a resignation.
A military coup in the Central African country of Gabon seized power from President Ali Bongo
Ndimba. Ndimba won his third term last week in an election process that brought accusations of fraud.
Gabon's military junta placed him under house arrest,
dissolved state institutions, and closed the country's borders,
declaring General Ngema interim president in the region's eighth coup since 2020.
Health officials are requesting the DEA reclassify marijuana from

3, or able to be prescribed with moderate to low potential for dependence, for example testosterone.

Meta says it has disrupted China's spamouflage, taking down the largest online influence campaign ever.
The operation used a sprawling network of fake accounts across 50 websites,
including YouTube, TikTok, Reddit, and X, to spread pro-China messages.
The fake accounts praised the Communist Party and China's COVID-19 response
while attacking pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong and the Trump administration.
Over 70 people died in Johannesburg, South Africa Thursday
when a fire consumed a five-story hijacked high-rise,
an abandoned gang-run inner-city building without electricity or water
and filled with squatters. A candle or oil lamp may have ignited the overnight blaze,
with deteriorating public services and corruption cited as exacerbating South Africa's worst fire
tragedy in living memory. And that's all we have for today. Thanks so much for listening.
