Today we're talking about Hunter Biden's indictment, a recaptured murderer, the latest inflation numbers, and other top news for Friday, September 15th.
Stay informed while remaining focused on Christ with The Pour Over.
Here's the quote of the day.
Seek to learn on earth those truths which will remain ever valid in heaven.
Saint Jerome.
Let's get started with some espresso shots.
The indictments keep coming.
This time, it's President Biden's son Hunter, who was indicted yesterday on three federal charges.
A first for a child of a sitting president.
Hunter is accused of lying about
his drug use when buying a firearm in 2018. He's since said he was addicted to crack cocaine at
the time. The indictment makes no mention of any of the tax violations that were part of a previous
plea deal. That deal, which would have allowed Hunter to avoid jail time, unexpectedly fell apart in July after a
judge raised concerns. Hunter's lawyer criticized the indictment, saying it's the result of mega
Republicans' improper and partisan interference. Senator Chuck Grassley called the indictment a
starting point for justice. Everyone agrees that courtrooms will play a big role in the 2024 presidential race.
While you likely have no control over the politically contentious investigations into
Hunter Biden or anyone else, you can control how you speak about them. Leave others with no doubt
of your love for everyone involved. Ephesians 4, verse 29 says, no foul language should come
from your mouth, but only what is good for building up someone in need, so that it gives
grace to those who hear. Pennsylvania's murder fugitive was captured on Wednesday,
about 30 miles from the prison he escaped. After eluding authorities
for 13 days, Danilo Cavalcante tripped a burglary alarm and a DEA plane's thermal imaging led
officers to where he was hiding. They quietly surrounded him and a certified good boy,
a search dog named Yoda, subdued him before he could escape again. U.S. Marshals say he planned to
carjack his way to Canada. Cavalcante was recently sentenced to life without parole for the 2021
murder of his ex-girlfriend. He's also wanted in his home country of Brazil for allegedly
murdering someone before illegally fleeing to the U.S. He was arraigned on new charges Wednesday afternoon
and is now back behind bars in a maximum security prison west of Philadelphia. It's Chester County
prison's second escape in four months, prompting corrective action and one guard's termination.
Here's a verse to consider when a long search is finally over.
Here's a verse to consider when a long search is finally over.
For nothing is hidden that will not be made manifest,
nor is anything secret that will not be known and come to light.
Luke 8, verse 17.
August meant back to school for kids and back-to-back increases for inflation.
After 12 straight months of decline, the consumer price index ticked up in both July and August.
Annual inflation rose to 3.7% last month, largely driven by a jump in gas prices.
Still, some economists say it's not all bad. The labor market has stayed tight, wages are up slightly, and core inflation, which ignores volatile food and energy prices, continues to decline.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Census Bureau dropped some unflattering numbers. median household income dropped 2.3% to $74,580, down from its peak of $78,250 in 2019, and child poverty more than doubled from 5.2% in 2021 to 12.4% in 2022, largely due to the expiration of pandemic-era benefits.
Here's a verse to consider when you're feeling tempted to fret over your online account balance.
Instruct them to do what is good, to be rich in good works, to be generous and willing to share,
storing up treasure for themselves as a good foundation for the coming age, so that they
may take hold of what is truly life. 1 Timothy 6 verses 18 and 19. This episode is sponsored by

In other brews, here's a rapid round of updates. DACA, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals,
has given DREAMers, undocumented migrants who arrived as children, access to
work permits, and deportation relief since the Obama administration. Wednesday, a Texas federal
judge ruled that the policy, which the White House wants to make federal regulation, is unlawful.
The ruling keeps DACA intact for now, but pushes it closer to the Supreme Court's chambers.

Jamie Mousen, an extraterrestrial enthusiast, showed Mexico's Congress what he claims are two mummified alien bodies during a hearing on Unidentified Aerial Phenomena, or UAPs.
Mousen says carbon dating shows the bodies are between 700 and 1800 years old. He made similar claims in 2015 that were later proven false.

Ever thought this cold medicine isn't helping at all? Well, the scientists agree.
After reviewing the data, an FDA advisory panel unanimously agreed that phenylephrine,
the main ingredient in pseudofed PE, is as effective a nasal decongestant as chicken
noodle soup. The vote could lead to the removal of many common medicines
from shelves. And that's all we have for today. Thanks so much for listening. If you're listening
