Today, we're talking about COVID protests in China, scores from the World Cup, more
flying feathers at Twitter, and other top news for Monday, November 28th.
Stay informed while remaining focused on Christ with The Pour Over.
Here's the quote of the day.
Education without values, as useful as it is, seems rather to make man a more clever
devil.
C.S. Lewis.
Let's start with some espresso shots.
Many Chinese citizens decided they're not thankful for COVID lockdowns this year.
Earlier this month, China slightly relaxed its strict zero COVID policy, but as cases have
increased, they're turning back to their old playbook, strict lockdowns. An apartment fire
in the Xinjiang region killed 10 people and video suggests the lockdown measures hampered emergency services.
The event served as a catalyst for protesters, angered by reports that residents' doors are
being welded shut or exits blocked as part of COVID quarantines. Demonstrators took to the
streets in Shanghai and Beijing chanting, step down Xi Jinping, step down Communist Party,
and don't want COVID test, want freedom. It's an unprecedented uprising in China,
one that police have unsuccessfully attempted to quell by busing away protesters and using
pepper spray on the crowds. Take a moment to pray for the country of China, for its leaders,
its citizens, and for Christians in China to be a source of light and hope sustained by the Holy Spirit. 1 Peter 3, verse 12 says,
Because the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayer.
We're nearing the end of group play in the world's biggest ball tournament,
and there's been excitement aplenty. Significant upsets have included Argentina to Saudi Arabia, Germany to Japan, Japan to Costa
Rica, and Belgium to Morocco, leading to riots in Brussels. As for the Stars and Stripes,
the highly anticipated revenge game, 246 years in the making, on Friday ended 0-0, that means zero,
which felt like a win for the Americans against the
favored English team. It was the second most watched U.S. men's soccer game ever. Tomorrow
is the final game of group play for the Americans, who play Iran at 2 p.m. Eastern. A win and they
advance. A loss or another tie and they get an early start on their Christmas vacation.
Here's a verse to consider when you're kicking a ball around a field and the stakes feel high.
So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God.
1 Corinthians 10 verse 31.
The revamping and unrollbacking of Twitter policies continues at a frenzied pace.
Twitter-in-chief Elon Musk says that starting
Friday there will be three verified checkmarks, gold for companies, gray for government, and blue
for people, celeb or not. All verified accounts will be manually authenticated, as in the pre-Musk
days, but they'll also need to cough up $8 a month. He called manual authentication painful
but necessary, following a flood of verified impersonator accounts. Musk also announced general amnesty for most previously banned accounts after 72.4%
of respondents to a Twitter poll said accounts should be reinstated if they have not broken the
law or engaged in egregious spam. Proponents say that this only-ban illegal content approach
protects free speech while critics say it primarily benefits
spreaders of hate and harassment. Our goal is to keep the big things big and the small things
small. It's not that Twitter's public overhaul isn't important, it's just not God of the universe
important. Stay focused on eternity. It changes everything. Colossians 3 verse 2 through 4 says,
set your mind on things above, not on earthly things, for you died and your life is hidden Electrolytes are mostly salt.
So if your electrolyte drink is sweet, then, um...
Popular electrolyte drinks, think things that end in "-ade",
usually have low amounts of electrolytes,
in suboptimal ratios, and contain fillers. Element is the tasty electrolyte drink that gives you everything you need and nothing you don't. That means a science-backed electrolyte
ratio, 1,000 mg sodium, 200 mg potassium, 60 mg magnesium, and no sugar. Element is giving the

worry, they offer no questions asked refunds. It's truly risk-free, so try it today. Check out
the link in our show notes. In other brews, here's a rapid round of updates. Online Black Friday sales hit a record of $9.12 billion, with buy now, pay later payments jumping 78% from last year.
The National Retail Federation projects total post-Thanksgiving shopping, online and in-store, will be up 6-8% from last year, a decline while factoring in inflation.
last year, a decline while factoring in inflation. Kanye Ye West announced he intends to run for president and asked former President Trump to be his VP. The request, which didn't go over well,
occurred at a Mar-a-Lago dinner with Trump, Ye, and Nick Fuentes, a 24-year-old labeled as a white
supremacist by the DOJ. Facing backlash, Trump said he didn't know Fuentes, who just showed up with Ye.
Facing backlash, Trump said he didn't know Fuentes, who just showed up with yay.
The U.N.'s Human Rights Council voted to investigate alleged human rights violations in Iran following weeks of protests against the Islamic Republic.
The U.S. waded into the conflict by briefly displaying the Iranian flag on social media without their emblem, a show of support to the protesters. A store manager shot and killed six
co-workers, ages ranging from 16 to 70, at a Walmart in Chesapeake, Virginia last Tuesday
before taking his own life. The shooter had legally purchased the handgun earlier the same
day and left a note on his phone claiming co-workers had harassed him. Thanksgiving
weekend has become as synonymous with American football as turkey,
and the weekend didn't disappoint. With Thursday's NFL games breaking viewership records,
Giants-Cowboys was the most watched regular season game ever. On the college side,
Michigan dominated Ohio State, keeping its playoff hopes alive, while Clemson and the LSU
were likely eliminated in upsets. That's all we have for today. Thanks so much for listening. If you're listening on the Apple
