Happy Labor Day! In today's Shorter Than Normal episode, we're discussing a big announcement in
college football, the unsealing of a more detailed list of what was taken from Mar-a-Lago, and other
top news for Monday, September 5th. Stay informed while remaining focused on Christ with The Pour
Over. Here's the quote of the day, authentic Christianity is not increasing levels of
commitment grudgingly given to God, it is surrender to Jesus out of a sense of privilege in having him. Ray Ortlund, Jr. Grab your shoulder pads. College football is back in
full swing. While there was some shuffling of the top 25 rankings after the first week, yes,
Alabama is still number one, it was the college football playoffs board that nabbed the most
headlines. On Friday, the board unanimously voted to expand the playoffs from four to 12 teams. While still a wee bit less
important than the 12 Tribes of Israel or 12 Apostles, a 12-team playoff will be a big shift.
The playoffs expanded from two teams to four teams in 2014 and will switch to 12 teams in 2026,
although there is pressure to make it happen as soon as 2024. Meanwhile, the NFL's
regular season kicks off this Thursday with the Buffalo Bills taking on the Los Angeles Rams.
Too often we let eternally insignificant things like sports control our mood and behavior.
It's not wrong to enjoy these things, but remember that whether your team wins or loses,
nothing of true importance has changed. Psalm 1914 says,
May the words of my mouth and
the meditation of my heart be acceptable to you, Lord, my rock and my redeemer.

In other brews, we've got a rapid round of updates.
Someone give NASA a Red Bull, the Artemis I rocket can't find her wings.
The rocket's launch, the first step in NASA's Return Man to the Moon mission,
was scrubbed again on Saturday after they were unable to stop a leak of liquid hydrogen fuel.
NASA isn't expected to try launching the rocket again for at least two weeks.
A 38-year-old man has been charged with especially aggravated kidnapping and tampering with evidence in connection to the disappearance of Eliza Fletcher the FBI seized at Mar-a-Lago. It includes 11,000 documents, including 18 labeled top secret,
54 labeled secret, 31 labeled confidential, and 48 empty folders marked classified. Lawyers for
former President Trump liken the situation to, quote, an overdue library book that, quote,
suddenly transformed into a criminal trial.
Serena Williams, the 23-time Grand Slam champ who was ranked number one in women's single tennis for
a combined 319 weeks, lost what may be her final professional match. Before the tournament began,
Williams said the U.S. Open could be her last, and she lost to Ayla Tomjanovic in the third round on
Friday. That's all we have for today. Thanks so much for listening. Here's a breakdown on how you
