Today we're talking about former President Trump's lead in the GOP polls, Hunter Biden's
former business associate testifying before Congress, conflict in Haiti, and other top
news for Wednesday, August 2nd.
Stay informed while remaining focused on Christ with The Pour Over.
Here's the quote of the day.
There is no higher calling or greater privilege known to man than being involved in helping
fulfill the Great Commission.
Bill Bright.
Let's get started with some espresso shots.
Last night, former President Trump was indicted for the third time in four months.
count indictment alleges Trump conspired with six other unnamed individuals to defraud the United States government by attempting to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.
He's been ordered to appear in federal court tomorrow. His poll numbers spiked after the
previous indictments in New York, Hush Money, and Florida, classified documents, and recent polls
show him holding a commanding lead in the elephant race for president.
He's at 54%, Ron DeSantis is at 17%, and Mike Pence, Tim Scott, and Nikki Haley are at 3%.
Many Republicans view his legal troubles as politically motivated,
while Democrats largely view it as legal accountability.
Either way, they're expensive.
Recent filings show Trump's campaign has spent $42.8 million so far this year.
$25 million was on legal fees.
Here's a verse to consider when politicians and elections begin consuming your thoughts.
But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Philippians 3 verse 20 Devin Archer, a former business associate of Hunter Biden, appeared before the House Oversight Committee Monday.
Archer said Hunter sold the illusion of access by putting his father Joe Biden on speakerphone with business associates roughly 20 times over 10 years.
But Joe only discussed niceties like the weather.
Hunter once stepped away to quote-unquote call D.C. during a deal, but Archer does not know if
he called Joe Biden. Some Republicans say the situation warrants an impeachment inquiry.
James Comer said the testimony confirms Joe Biden lied to the American people when he said he had
no knowledge about his son's business dealings and was not involved.
Democrats like Dan Goldman say any influence peddling was clearly done without Joe Biden's knowledge since Archer repeated over and over and over again that President Biden never discussed
any business dealings. Politically hot topics can easily bring out the worst in us. As Christians,
we're called to choose compassion, kindness, humility,
gentleness, and patience, ridding ourselves of anger, malice, and slander. Colossians 3 verse 12
says, Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion,
kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. The U.S. State Department is working with Haitian authorities
to locate an American nurse kidnapped in Haiti last week. The woman is married to the founder
of El Roy, a Christian aid organization, and was working at the ministry's health clinic when she
and her daughter were abducted. The same day, the State Department ordered non-emergency employees to leave the
country and urged all U.S. citizens to do the same. Since its president was assassinated in 2021,
kidnappings, murders, and gangs have surged in Haiti, with gangs now controlling up to 80%
of its capital, Port-au-Prince. Haiti's Prime Minister and Acting President Ariel Henry has
requested armed international assistance. A call Kenya
said it would answer by sending 1,000 police to help overrun Haitian national police should the
UN approve. There's nothing like the peace of God, which transcends understanding. Pray for the peace
of God to reign in the parts of the world where there is no peace. Proverbs 15 verse 29 says,
The Lord is far from the wicked, but he hears the prayer
of the righteous. Today's episode is brought to you by the Christian Standard Bible. For those

Katie Ledecky claimed her 16th individual World Swimming Medal at the World Aquatics Championships this month,

she holds the top 30 fastest times globally in the event.
The U.S. women's national team advanced to the World Cup's elimination round. Barely. They tied
0-0 with Portugal,
whose shot in stoppage time hit a post.
Had it gone in,
it would have sent the Americans home.

The USWNT's next game kicks off at 4 a.m. CDT,

A suicide bomber killed at least 54 people

Georgia is lighting up headlines with a brand new nuclear reactor, the first to begin powering the U.S. electrical grid in nearly seven years.
The project was years late and billions over budget, but began providing clean energy to an estimated 500,000 homes and businesses near Waynesboro, Georgia, on Monday.
Officials have found malware that they suspect is from China, hidden in various U.S. military systems.
The malware seems intended to disrupt rather than surveil military operations, a notable shift.
It's believed the malicious computer code was targeting communication systems, power grids, and water supply systems that support military bases both in the U.S. and abroad.
