Today, we're covering wild weather, the latest legal notice former President Trump received,
updates from Ukraine, and other top news for Wednesday, July 19th.
Stay informed while remaining focused on Christ with The Pour Over.
Here's the verse of the week.
Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought
to answer each person.
Colossians 4 verse 6.
Let's get started with some espresso shots.
Most of the U.S. is stuck inside. It's either too hot or too hazy.
While wafted smoke from the still-burning Canadian wildfires isn't as bad as it has been,
Minnesota and Wisconsin faced statewide alerts over the weekend.
In other fiery news, over 100 million Americans are under excessive heat warnings and advisories.
From the Pacific Northwest to the tip of Florida, cities are breaking records and thermometers.
Phoenix saw its 19th consecutive day of temps over 110 degrees Fahrenheit,
and El Paso is on a 30-day streak of 100-plus degrees. It's hot overseas, too.
An airport in Iran recorded a heat index of 152 degrees. Basically, everyone is sweating.
Temperature talk surely broke the ice for President Biden and China's President Xi,
who met for more than three hours Monday to restart international climate negotiations.
Christians can look forward to an eternity where there's
redemption not just for people, but for creation itself. Revelation 21 verses 1 and 2 say,
Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth. For the first heaven and the first earth had passed away,
and the sea was no more. I also saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem,
coming down out of heaven from God, prepared like a bride adorned for her
husband. Yesterday, former President Trump truth-socialed that he received another target
letter from special counsel Jack Smith. Target letters inform recipients that they're the subject
of grand jury investigation and often, but not always, proceed an indictment. Prosecutors are digging into Trump's efforts to remain in office following
the 2020 election, asking witnesses about his state of mind and fundraising efforts following
January 6th. Most congressional Republicans are defending Trump, with Speaker McCarthy saying the
government is being weaponized. Democrats argue that Trump's attempts to subvert democracy should carry consequences. In Georgia, the state Supreme Court unanimously
rejected Trump's bid to shut down an investigation into whether he unlawfully interfered with
Georgia's 2020 election results. Georgia's Fulton County District Attorney has indicated
that indictments in the case are possible in the next few weeks.

Being peaceable, gentle, and open to reason in the face of culturally hot topics is a sign of God's wisdom in us.
James 3 verse 17 says,
But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peace-loving, gentle, open to reason, full
of mercy and good fruits, unwavering, without pretense.
and good fruits, unwavering, without pretense. Ukraine has cut off a key Russian supply line to the battlefront, and Russia has cut off one of the world's biggest suppliers of grain.
Kiev claimed responsibility Monday for blowing up the Kerch Bridge, a 12-mile crossing that
connects mainland Russia to the annexed Crimean Peninsula, supplying Crimea with military
resources and civilian essentials. Russia called the explosion, which injured a teenager and killed
her parents, a terrorist attack. Later Monday, the UN-brokered Black Sea Grain Initiative expired,
and Russia declined to re-up. The deal allowed Ukraine, the breadbasket of Europe, to export
grain and food via Black Sea ports. The uncertainty
of safe maritime passage left U.S. wheat and corn futures down, and experts wondering whether
Russia will redeploy naval blockades against Ukrainian exports. Here's a verse to consider
whether your country is at peace or at war. Cast all your anxieties on him because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5, verse 7.
Broadly speaking, there are two approaches to translating the Bible.
Translating words versus translating phrases.
The result is over 450 different English translations,
and 2 Kings 4.29 reading,
Gird up your loins, don't lose a minute, and everything in between.
The Christian Standard Bible was translated using optimal equivalence, pursuing both linguistic
precision and readability. That means you're reading the same words spoken in 30 AD,
except when word-for-word translation breaks the English language.

In other brews, here's a rapid round of updates.
A U.S. Army private who had recently been held in a South Korean prison on assault charges
and faced additional military disciplinary actions in Texas willfully and without authorization
crossed into North Korea yesterday where it's believed he was taken into custody.
He's the first American to defect to the Hermit Kingdom since the 1960s.
RSV, a virus that peaks in the fall and primarily infects
the oldest and youngest among us, may have met its match. On Monday, the FDA unanimously approved
a one-time monoclonal antibody injection for newborns and infants called Bafortis. The
protective antibodies have been shown to decrease the likelihood of severe illness by 75% and will be available
this fall. An Iowa state judge temporarily blocked the state's six-week abortion ban
three days after it was signed into law. While the injunction is in place, abortion is once again
legal up to 20 weeks. The decision will likely be appealed and work its way up to the Iowa State
Supreme Court for a final ruling.
Taylor Swift's records have broken another record.
She's now just the third artist and first woman to have four top ten albums in the Billboard 200.
The others were Prince after his death in 2016 and Herb Alpert, shout out Alpertheads, in 1966. Speak Now Taylor's version is at number one,
Midnight's is at number five, Lover at number seven, and Folklore at number ten.
That sound you didn't hear Monday was the quiet hum of the Tesla Cybertruck rolling off its Texas
assembly line for the first time. Four years after Elon Musk announced it, and two years later than initially promised, the Cybertruck will compete against Rivian's R1T, GMC's Hummer EV, and Ford's F-150 Lightning,
which recently had its price cut by almost $10,000.
