Today, we're talking about a missing five-person submersible,
Hunter Biden's plea deal with the DOJ,
a heat wave in India,
and other top news for Wednesday, June 21st.
Stay informed while remaining focused on Christ
with The Pour Over.
Here's the quote of the day.
God does not give us everything we want,
but he does fulfill his promises,
leading us along the best
and straightest paths to himself. Dietrich Bonhoeffer. Let's get started with some espresso shots.
The search continues for a submersible that went missing en route to the Titanic wreckage.
Ocean Gate Expeditions offers annual tours of the Titanic wreckage site
on a 21-foot, five-passenger submersible called Titan. The Titan launched Sunday morning and was
due to return Sunday night, but lost communication with its support vessel less than two hours into
its voyage. Search efforts led by the U.S. Coast Guard have since covered 10,000 square miles of
ocean without results. And the
clock is ticking. The Titan only has enough oxygen for 96 hours, which will expire early tomorrow.
On board are OceanGate Expedition's CEO, a British billionaire who also rode Blue Origin's rocket
into space last year, a French Titanic expert, and a prominent Pakistani businessman and his son.
French Titanic expert and a prominent Pakistani businessman and his son. Each person shelled out $250,000 for the experience gone wrong. The promise of heaven does not remove the pain
or uncertainty of this world. It does give us hope, strength, and peace during life's most
difficult seasons. Join us in praying for hope, strength, and peace for the families and the responders involved in the search for the Titan.
Psalms, chapter 121, verses 1 through 2 say,
I lift my eyes toward the mountains. Where will my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth.
The Department of Justice has reached an agreement with President Joe Biden's son,
Hunter. Hunter will plead guilty to not paying taxes in 2017 and 2018 and receive a pretrial
diversion for the more serious crime of illegally owning a gun while using drugs,
likely avoiding any prison time. Hunter Biden has admitted to being a heavy user of crack cocaine
around 2018, and his lawyer stated that Hunter wants to take responsibility for these mistakes.
The White House released a statement simply saying,
the president and first lady love their son and support him as he continues to rebuild his life.
Former President Trump criticized the deal, calling it a mere traffic ticket,
and Representative James Comer called it a slap on the wrist,
promising the House Oversight Committee will continue its investigations into the Biden family.
When discussing divisive topics such as Hunter Biden's legal troubles,
remember that both your stance and how you take your stance reflect on Christ.
We shouldn't sacrifice relationships to win arguments.
Romans chapter 12, verse 18 says,
If possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.
Two of the most populous states in northern India have spent days at a very humid 43.5 degrees Celsius. That's 110 degrees to us
Fahrenheitians. Hot. Even in a region known for its heat. The extra sweltering temps have caused
power outages, limiting people's access to fans, air conditioning, and even water. Nearly 170
people have died, leaving hospitals and morgues overwhelmed. Government officials are fending off criticism for not warning people to brace for the unusual
heat until Sunday, after dozens had already died. They say the temps alone shouldn't have
been this deadly and are launching an investigation into the deaths.
Meanwhile, in the Western Hemisphere, Tropical Storm Brett is expected to strengthen and bring
an early start
to this year's hurricane season. Brett could make landfall in Puerto Rico or the Virgin Islands
later this week. Here's a verse to consider while praying for those affected in northern India and
those who help on the front lines of disasters worldwide. He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. Psalm 147, verse 3. but the pour-over subscribers get one year free. Posts are shown chronologically, not curated to drive you deeper

In other brews, here's a rapid round of updates.
It's been two weeks since Ukraine's counteroffensive
began, and the campaign hasn't been a walk in the park, according to officials. Ukraine has
advanced four miles south in the past week, capturing eight small settlements in the
Zaporizhia direction, but hasn't punctured Russia's main line. In contrast, last year's
counterattacks produced lightning-quick gains.
Nope, not the latest Jack Ryan plot.
In real life, Russia reportedly tried to assassinate a Russian informant, Alexander Putyev, on U.S. soil in 2021.
Putyev, a former Russian intelligence officer, provided information that helped the FBI uncover 11 Russian spies living on the East Coast.
The failed assassination led to sanctions and the expulsion of Russian and American diplomats.
Pilots, always check your blind spot. Passengers on a United flight preparing to depart Boston Logan Airport watched as the wing of their plane slowly collided with the tail of a Delta jet,
another incident in a growing list of close calls at airports this year.
There were no injuries, but passengers on both planes arrived at their destinations much later than expected.
