Today we're talking about a verdict in a Trump lawsuit, drones in Russia, proposed changes that
would require airlines to pay for delays, and other top news for Wednesday, May 10th.
Stay informed while remaining focused on Christ with The Pour Over. Here's the quote of the day.
What is the mark of love for your neighbor? Not to seek what is for your own benefit,
but what is for the benefit of the one loved, both in body and in soul.
Saint Basil.
Let's start with some espresso shots.
Just a heads up for our listeners.
This first story discusses subjects that may not be suitable for children.
Yesterday, former President Trump was found liable for the sexual abuse and defamation of columnist E. Jean Carroll.
After three hours of deliberation, a Manhattan jury of six men and three women unanimously found former President Trump liable for sexually abusing Carroll in 1996
and defaming her by calling her allegations of abuse a hoax and a lie last October.
They did not find him liable of rape.
This was a civil trial, not a criminal trial, which means there was a lower burden of proof
and Mr. Trump faces no prison time. He was ordered to pay Carroll $5 million.
After the verdict, the former president claimed that he has no idea who this woman is,
criticized the trial as being politically motivated, and promised to appeal.
Culturally hot topics such as former President Trump's legal battles frequently make people
think, speak, and act poorly, including us. We can respect others and represent God better if
we are quick to listen and slow to speak. James 1 verse 19 through 20 says,
Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger,
for human anger does not accomplish God's righteousness.
Monday, Russia launched its biggest swarm of drones in months. 60 Iranian-made kamikaze
drones fired on Ukrainian targets, with Ukraine claiming to have shot down all of them.
Debris from the shoot-downs hit buildings in Kiev, injuring at least five people.
In the southern region of Odessa, missile strikes burned down a Red Cross building and killed one person. The attack came on the eve of Russia's Victory Day, celebrating Nazi Germany's 1945
defeat. Moscow was also reportedly hoping to capture Bakhmut in time for the holiday but
failed to do so. Russia scaled down its schedule of military parades, normally accompanying Victory
Day, as much of Moscow's military hardware is tied up in battle. President Putin delivered a speech
lasting barely 10 minutes during which he doubled down on his justification for invading Ukraine.
It is easy to feel helpless when it comes to international
conflicts, but the Bible promises that prayer is powerful and effective, that it causes things to
happen that would have not happened otherwise. Pray for peace. James 5 verse 16 says,
the prayer of a righteous man is very powerful in its effect.
A delayed flight could lead to cash in your pocket based on new airline rules the Biden
administration wants to roll out. The proposed regulations would require airlines to compensate
passengers who face controllable delays or cancellations, which are now more common than
weather-related hiccups. President Biden says his priority is to get American air travelers a better deal.
Although he's hoping to land the new rules by the end of 2023, the runway may be years long,
and any final rules are likely to be challenged by the airline industry.
Similar rule changes from 2021, like reimbursing for lost baggage or bad Wi-Fi,
still aren't finalized. It's the administration's latest attempt to reform the
air industry. They've already required carriers to cover hotel and meal expenses for stranded
passengers, among other regulations. Though delays of all kinds can make you want to tear
your hair out, they're a perfect fertilizer for your fruit of the spirit. Proverbs 14,
verse 29 says,
Proverbs 14, verse 29 says,
A patient man shows great understanding,
but a quick-tempered one promotes foolishness.
We believe that the news can actually be a force for good,
helping people find rest and comfort in Christ while spurring them on to loving action.

In other brews, here's a rapid round of updates.
President Biden met with congressional leaders yesterday to discuss raising the roof
debt ceiling to avoid economic catastrophe as soon as June 1st.
Biden and the Dems want a clean bill that raises the ceiling without conditions, while Republicans
want to include spending cuts. There is a third option. Pass a temporary increase to allow more
time for negotiations. Don't mess with Texas borders. Texas Governor Greg Abbott. More or less. The Lone Star Governor
announced the deployment of a new tactical border force ahead of the migrant surge expected after
Title 42 restrictions end tomorrow. Abbott said the force will be made up of an elite
National Guard specifically trained to thwart immigrants trying to cross the border.
The 2023 Pulitzer Prizes were announced this week. The awards honor
various categories in journalism, with several this year focusing on reporting on the war in
Ukraine, including the prestigious Public Service Award, which went to the Associated Press.
The pour-over is still checking the mail to see if our announcement got lost.
Good news! The neglected Nickelback Fan for life handle that you've had your eyes on since
2008 might soon be available. Elon Musk announced that Twitter will begin removing inactive accounts
to free up abandoned handles. Inactive accounts will be archived, but it's unclear when or how
the process will begin. It's been two weeks since Fox News and Tucker Carlson's breakup, and Tucker reportedly wants to see other people, but can't.
His contract, which prevents him working for or starting a rival news network, is valid through January 2025,
and Fox Corp plans to pay his $20 million salary to keep him off rival airwaves.
