Today we'll be talking about the stock market slide, how states are responding to the Roe v.
Wade leak, a fugitive's capture, and other top news for Wednesday, May 11th.
Stay informed while remaining focused on Christ with The Pour Over.
Here's the quote of the day.
He who labors as he prays lifts his heart to God with his hands.
St. Benedict of Nursia.
Let's get started with some espresso shots.
Nersia. Let's get started with some espresso shots.
It's been over a week since the Supreme Court sprung a leak and states are beginning to lay their cards on the table. If Roe v. Wade is overturned, it's expected roughly half of the
states will ban or significantly limit abortions and half will allow it. Beyond that, some states
are considering making traveling out of state to get an abortion illegal, while others, like
Connecticut, are taking the opposite approach
and issuing protections for out-of-staters who visit to receive an abortion.
That's the smell of brewing legal battles.
Even still, there is agreement on one thing.
Violent protests are not the answer.
President Biden condemned the Molotov cocktail attack
on a pro-life advocacy group in Wisconsin,
and the Senate unanimously passed a bill to extend security to Supreme Court justices' families. We are called to love everyone always. This means loving and caring for the
unborn, single mothers, those who have received abortions, and people who passionately disagree
with you on this topic. Matthew 5, 44 and 45 says, But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for
those who persecute you, so that you may be children of your Father in heaven. For he causes
his Son to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.
It appears someone dropped a banana peel on Wall Street. The S&P 500 slipped below 4,000 on Monday,
that's its lowest level in a year, and Bitcoin dipped below $30,000 for the first time since
July 2021. In total, markets are down about 16.5%
so far this year, and big tech companies have lost $1 trillion in market value since just the
middle of last week. Oof. On a colorful note, the luxury art market showed some serious poise when
an Andy Warhol painting of Marilyn Monroe sold for $195 million. That's the highest price ever
garnered by an American work of art. All
that cash will go to the Thomas and Doris Ammon Foundation in Zurich and be funneled to children's
education and health care programs. Here's a verse to consider when dreaming about finding a war hall
in your attic. The one who loves silver is never satisfied with silver, and whoever loves wealth
is never satisfied with income. This too is futile. Ecclesiastes 5.10.

The 10-day manhunt for an escaped Alabama inmate and missing corrections officer is over.
On April 29th, jail official Vicki White told co-workers that it would be her last day of work and she'd be taking inmate Casey White, there's no relation, to the courthouse for a mental
evaluation. No evaluation was scheduled and instead the pair picked up a getaway car and hit the road. They made it 175
miles north before someone spotted Casey, whose 6'9 stature would be hard to miss, in Evansville,
Indiana, and tipped off U.S. Marshals. A pursuit ended in a collision, leaving Casey in custody
with minor injuries. Vicki shot herself, later succumbing to her injuries. Authorities have few
answers for the whys in the case, and Vicki's family and co-workers have expressed shock at her
involvement with Casey. Discussing theories of what really happened can be engaging, but Paul
encourages us to avoid endless discussions that lead to meaningless speculations. Focus instead
on pointing people to Christ. 1 Timothy 1.4 says,
Don't let them waste their time in endless discussion of myths and spiritual pedigrees. These things only lead to meaningless speculations, which don't help
people live a life of faith in God. This podcast is brought to you by the CSB Translation. There
are a lot of reasons to read a Bible, private devotion, accidentally taking a Greek history
class, scripture memorization, exercising your page flipping fingers, and many others. No matter
your reason, we recommend the CSB Trans translation. Their team of translators expertly
delivered on the vision for an English translation that placed equal value on fidelity to the
original language and readability for a modern audience. You can learn more about why we

The FDA is working, quote, around the clock to address the national baby formula shortage,
which has left some states with just half their normal supply.
With 75% of babies needing formula, the shortage has parents stressed and has the Infant Nutrition
Council issuing reminders not to stockpile or dilute infant formula.

Putin spent Victory Day, which commemorates the Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany,
justifying his invasion of Ukraine and criticizing NATO. The day includes military parades and remembrance of Russian soldiers. The Russian ambassador to Poland had a tough time with the
latter. Protesters threw red paint on him at a Soviet cemetery. Sri Lanka's economic turmoil has led to political upheaval.
Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa resigned following nationwide protests over shortages of fuel, food, and medicine.
The former prime minister's brother, who serves as president, plans to remain in power and is hoping for a bailout from the International Monetary Fund.
On Monday, the White House announced a program providing a $30 monthly
internet subsidy to low-income families. Since 20 internet providers, including Verizon, Comcast,
and Charter, have agreed to offer $30 high-speed internet plans, Biden says that 40% of American
households can now pay, quote, zero for access to the World Wide Web. Pulitzer Prize winners for 2022 include the Washington Post for
its reporting on January 6th and the Miami Herald for, quote, urgent yet sweeping coverage of the
Surfside condo collapse. You can see the full list of winners in our show notes, but spoiler alert,
the pour over was snubbed again. That's all we have for today. Thanks so much for listening.
