Today we're talking about leaked audio that is ending political careers in Los Angeles,
the biggest attack on Ukraine by Russia in months, Harvey Weinstein's latest trial,
and other top news for Wednesday, October 12th.

Here's the quote of the day.
Anger is extraordinarily easy.
It's our default setting.
Love is very difficult.
Love is a miracle.
Brant Hanson. Let's get started with some espresso shots.
Is this thing on? Yes, it was. Nury Martinez resigned as president of the Los Angeles City
Council, but she remains a council member after audio of a private conversation between her,
two other council members, and the also sincesince-resigned L.A. Federation of Labor chief Ron Herrera was leaked over the weekend.
On the recording, which was anonymously posted to Reddit,
Martinez can be heard making racist comments about the black son of a fellow council member,
along with other disparaging remarks about local politicians.
Local state and federal leaders have called on the council members to resign, though none have.
In a statement, Martinez says she takes full responsibility and asked for forgiveness saying that ultimately it will be her actions that will demonstrate her remorse the story is a great
reminder that the aphorism words can never hurt me isn't true words are powerful and words can
lead to our downfall james warned us about this j James 3.6 says, And the tongue is a fire. The tongue, a world of unrighteousness, is placed among our members.
It stains the whole body, sets the course of life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.
After Ukraine's assault damaged the bridge connecting mainland Russia to Crimea,
Russia retaliated, launching its most widespread strike in months against key Ukrainian cities. The attacks fell on military, infrastructure,
and civilian sites, including a playground in Kiev, Kharkiv, and Lviv, causing widespread
blackouts and knocking out the water supply. At least 14 people were killed and nearly 100
wounded. Ukrainian President Zelensky addressed the Group of Seven, G7, in an emergency video
conference in response, and President Biden agreed to Zelensky addressed the Group of Seven, G7, in an emergency video conference in response,

President Putin does appear to have found a buddy.
Belarusian President Lukashenko announced that a joint military task force,
including more than 1,000 soldiers from both countries, was already forming
and said that Belarus would serve as a launchpad for thousands more Russian troops.

While you likely have no control over this war, you can control how you speak about it.
Leave others with no doubt of your love for everyone involved, even for people whose actions you do not support. Luke 6.35 says, but love your enemies, do what is good, and lend, expecting
nothing in return. Then your reward will be great and you will be children of the Most High.

Harvey Weinstein is back in the courtroom. The disgraced movie producer is already serving more than two decades in a New York state prison for a 2020 rape conviction. He is appealing that
verdict. But he now faces another 11 charges from five women who allege they were assaulted by Weinstein between 2004
and 2013 in California. One of the women is Jennifer Siebel Newsom, the wife of California
Governor Gavin Newsom. If convicted, the 70-year-old Weinstein faces life in prison.
The trial comes five years after a New York Times expose was published accusing Weinstein
of decades of abuse. It was a massive catalyst for the Me Too movement. A film depicting that New York Times investigation, titled She Said,
debuts at the New York Film Festival this week. Christians have an incredibly difficult job. We
must pursue justice and come alongside victims in their pain without letting accusations and
guilty verdicts lessen our love for those convicted. 1 Corinthians 16.14 says,
Do everything in love.

In other brews, here's a rapid round of updates.
Ye, the artist formerly known as Kanye West, had his Twitter and Instagram accounts locked
after a post that appeared to suggest taking violent action against Jewish people.
Earlier this month, Ye also sparked controversy by wearing a White Lives Matter sweatshirt to a Paris Fashion Week show.
Iranian protests over Sharia law dress codes are continuing despite clerical leaders' efforts to quell unrest.
Oil workers at two essential refinery complexes reportedly blocked roads chanting
death to the dictator. The Islamic Republic's efforts to stamp out the protest have left an
estimated 185 people dead. North Korea says its recent missile tests are a simulation of, quote,
actual war capabilities in response to recent naval drills between the U.S. and South Korea.
North Korea has conducted a record 25 missile tests this year and claims they've constructed underwater nuclear missile silos,
but experts believe North Korea actually possesses a launch pad on a submersible barge.
The Amazon-backed electric truck startup Rivian is recalling 12,000 vehicles over a potentially
faulty steering assembly. Since it's only produced 15,300 trucks
total, the company will now have to do some serious buffing to rub out this big scratch
on its reputation. Rivian stock is down nearly 70% this year as they've missed production targets.
Expect long queues on flights to London next year. Buckingham Palace announced that King
Charles III will be coronated on Saturday,
May 6, 2023, in a ceremony presided over by the Archbishop of Canterbury. Camilla,
the Queen Consort, will also be crowned as part of the service.
