Today we're talking about the U.S. v. Google antitrust trial, new COVID-19 vaccines,
negotiating a prisoner swap with Iran, and other top news for Wednesday, September 13th.
Stay informed while remaining focused on Christ with The Pour Over.
Here's the quote of the day.
If Jesus forgave those who nailed him to the cross, and if God forgives you and me,
how can you withhold
your forgiveness from someone else? And Graham Lotz. Let's start with some espresso shots.
The DOJ has accused Google of donning a top hat and ruling boardwalk for years.
The trial finally began yesterday. The feds argue that Google has used its scale and resources to squelch competition and gain an illegal advantage over rivals,
particularly through deals to be the default browser on smartphones.
Google says,
The trial is expected to last 10 weeks.
Speaking of tech giants, Apple held its annual release of new but kind of the same iGadgets.
The new iPhone 15 is made of titanium and has a better camera. The new Apple Watch allows you to
select by double-tapping your fingers together, not touching the screen, and has a 72-hour battery
life. And everything is switching to USB-C
chargers. Consumers and companies alike can use technology to hoard power and wealth or bless
others. Whatever technology you're using, remember to use every resource at your disposal to honor
God and love others. Proverbs 11 verse 25 through 26 says, A generous person will prosper. Whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.
People curse the one who hoards grain, but they pray God's blessing on the one who is willing to sell.
The FDA has approved an updated COVID-19 vaccine.
COVID-19 vaccine. Officials say this addition targets a specific variant called XBB.1.5,
which was dominant in June but now accounts for just 3% of new cases, but offers good protection against current leading strains and predicted up-and-comers. Gone are the ever-changing
eligibility charts. Pending CDC approval, this single dose will be available to people over
six months old regardless of how many previous COVID-19 vaccines they've received.
However, it's unclear how many will opt in.
Only about 17% of Americans rolled up their sleeves for the previous booster.

Zuckerberg's Twitter slash X alternative released a search function, but is drawing criticism for temporarily blocking results for queries related to COVID
until they can be confident in the quality of the results.
Here's a verse to consider when you're tempted to spiral back into old worries.
I sought the Lord and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears.
Those who look to him are radiant with joy.
Their faces will never be ashamed. Psalm 34, verse 4-5.
Five detained American-Iranian dual citizens are at the center of a sensitive and ongoing
exchange with Iran. Last month, Iran released the prisoners, one of whom has been jailed since 2015,
into house arrest, a big step in years-long negotiations. This week, the Biden administration
issued a waiver to release $6 billion in Iranian funds frozen by sanctions on the condition that
the defrosted bills only be used for humanitarian efforts. Iran says it will spend the money
wherever we need it,
and said it'll release five Iranian prisoners being held in the U.S. as a part of the deal.
Critics of the waiver likened the move to paying ransom and potentially funding terrorism.
The White House pushed back, saying the decision was a procedural step in securing the Americans'
eventual release to the U.S. The gospel is scandalous because God's heart is for everyone—terrorists, prisoners, presidents,
and those who passionately disagree with you—to know him.
He sacrificed his son because he loves his enemies.
Ask him to help you love yours.
1 John 4, verse 8-11 says,
Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is
how God showed his love among us. He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live
through him. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. This episode
of the podcast is brought to you by Haya. While most children's vitamins are just candy in disguise, Haya is made from a blend
of 12 farm-fresh fruits and vegetables and supercharged with 15 essential vitamins and
minerals. All of the good, none of the bad. That is excellent, but let's be real. The best part is
convenience. Haya arrives straight to your door on a pediatrician-recommended schedule and gives
your kiddo everything they need in just one vitamin per day. Basically, Haya does everything but chew this thing for little Timmy, and some
days, that's the level of service we need. So parents, get 50% off your first order with the

In other brews, here's a rapid round of updates. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy launched
an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden yesterday after pressure from his party's right
flank. McCarthy says Republicans have evidence of phone calls and money transfers that suggested a
culture of corruption in Biden's family and called an inquiry the logical next step.
The White House called it extreme politics at its worst.
More than 2,000 people have died and at least 10,000 are missing in Libya after Storm Daniel
slammed the conflict-riddled North African country, bursting dams in the coastal town of Derna.
Flooding washed away one quarter of the city, once inhabited by 125,000.
The United Nations is mobilizing emergency response.
Four plays into his regular season debut with the New York Jets,
quarterback Aaron Rodgers suffered a season-ending Achilles tendon tear.
On the heels of the injury, backup quarterback Zach Wilson led the team into the
season's first overtime. With an electrifying walk-off, punch-return touchdown, the Jets won
at home on the 22nd anniversary of 9-11. The hunt for an escaped killer continues across
southeastern Pennsylvania, canceling schools in the area. The convicted murderer escaped from
Philadelphia's Chester County Prison nearly two weeks ago by crab-walking between brick walls, scaling razor wire,
and vaulting off the roof. Police say he's changed his appearance and stolen a vehicle
and a rifle. They're urging locals to keep the doors locked and stay vigilant.
Walter Isaacson, famous historian and biographer, released his 688-page book on Elon Musk yesterday
after spending two years with the billionaire Tesla X CEO, who agreed to have no control over
the biography. Elon Musk, already a number one bestseller, digs into Musk's childhood,
mindset, working life, and personal life, revealing that he has an 11th child named Tau Techno Mechanicus.
