The Ricky Gervais Show / An Idiot Abroad - Xfm S1E13 (February 23, 2002)
Episode Date: September 2, 2022The show ran between September 2001 and May 2002 before Gervais and Merchant went on hiatus to film the second series of ‘’The Office’’. Initially, Pilkington’s on-air presence was relativ...ely minimal compared to what it would become. Gervais and Merchant only occasionally called for Karl to weigh in with his thoughts, while the two mostly talked to each other, with the “links” between songs comprising only about 30 minutes of the show’s 2-hour run time.As Pilkington’s personality moved to the forefront, the talk portion of the show expanded to roughly an hour per 2-hour broadcast. While the show relied largely upon a stream-of-consciousness format, Pilkington made attempts to keep things more conventional by insisting on running contests and airing pre-recorded segments and regular “features”.

Star Sailer and poor misguided fool.
With me Steve Merchant and Carl Pilkington.
The Cayman, round of applause for Kaymair.
But no one's announced who you are.
Ricky Javeys.
It's XFM 104.
Saturday afternoon.
If you didn't know that, I don't know why I mentioned it.
That was stupid, really. You must know that by now.
Well, we've got some great things coming up. We th. We've th. We've th. We've th. We've th. We've th. We've th. We've th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. S-S. S-S. S-S. S-S. S-S. S-S. S-S. Well we've got some great things
coming up we haven't we've got songs and chat and things. We'll also of
course be running through the white van man questions from the sun again but
this time Carl will be answering them I look forward to that yeah
can we do that fairly soon oh there was like a bunch of posh lads, I think university students,
trying to get in because they're doing one of those scavenger hunts that they have to
get points for charity and do stuff.
And one of theirs is get on a live radio show.
So I sort of felt sorry for them.
So I've said they could come on here.
Who are they? Are they just, are sort sort, are, are, are, are, are, are, I, are, I, I, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, tho, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, tho, tho, thi, I, thi, I, thi, I, I, th, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, th, th, th, th, th, th, th............ I, th. I, th. I, th. I, th. I, th. I, th. I'm, thi, thi, thi, thi. I'm, thi. thi. thi. thi. I'm, thi. I'm, they, they're, they, they, they, they, they, thi just, are they tofs? They are sort of toss but they're trendy tofs that's obviously. Trendy tos I don't know what's that? Is that like Lady
Victoria Hervey? No I don't mean that no. They're both sort of like that will of pop-i
right, right, right, like they're like them, sort of like thea, like they just get... They've got for points. Like they got their sponsor to do very show. Exactly. I don't know quite how it works, but they're going to come on and...
because we get... for coming on this live radio show, they get 17,000 points.
Right, good.
If I can put that in context, if they were to say to help deliver a baby, they only get 7, 250 points. It is. There's lots of women just dropping sprogs all over the place. You can't get on a live
radio show these days for love no money. You know what I mean? So when are they coming in?
I'll call said they're going to just... 130. I had a word with them. Okay, what did you make?
They are posh. But they said they're going to wander about and go and see if they can deliver a baby and thirty and they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they they're they're they they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they they're they they they can deliver a baby and that and then come back here for 130 and I don't
know if you can... I hope they don't like leave a baby sort of half out you know if
they've got it you know they push push push sorry we're gonna have to shoot
off we got a playing instrument in a marching band for 8500 points well I did
say be a definitely at 130 because I don't want you getting in the way of
the white van questions the other things they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they took took took took to took to they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they's the other thing is right. They get 7,500 points for delivering a baby,
but they get 9,000 points if they cut Peter Stringfellow's hair. Well, he's, you know,
he's very precious about his hair. It's a more delicate operation, isn't it? There's more
that can go wrong. That's true enough. Take an unconventional animal for a walk
in a park. What is an unconventional animal? I think that could be a dog that just doesn't play by the rules.
Yeah, that's a dog that's into slip knot.
Yeah, that wee's in the urinal.
He's handing up. Exactly.
Yeah, well I'm looking forward to that.
Well, I'm sure the lovely guys.
Yeah, we'll see later.
Yeah, we'll see later. Nirvana, man who sold the world.
Carl's all confused because it didn't tell you it was ended, did it?
What is that then?
Is that a sort of glitch in the computer?
Just applause isn't it?
I can't hear it.
They might start swearing, you know what they're like?
Rock stars? Yeah, and all their habits and all that. Yeah,
it says track ending now. Stop talking, that's, that's, you're giving away all the secrets
of radio and that. People think it's like an old piece of vinyl that we've put on a needle,
you know, like those old bits of footage of Tony Blackburn. That's what they think it's like. They didn't realize there's computers doing it all. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. th. th. they. th. they's. they's, you. th. th. they's, you're they's, you're they's, you. Yeah. th. that's, you're that's, you're that's, you're that's, you're that's, you're. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, th. Yeah, the the the they's th. Yeah, that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's. Never do that. I won't. I won't. In the week, I called
Carl up and said how are you mate, you went not too bad. Now as you know his girlfriend's
been away for ages, doesn't she, covering the World Cup, the African Nations. She's a sports
journalist. Well, yeah. All right. I love the right you're thinking, what does that mean? Well, she's not much of a journalist, Rick, I th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi, thi, thi's, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. th. th. th. th. th. thi. th. th. thi. th. th. th. th. th. Yeah. Yeah's not much of a journalist Rick I've read some of her stuff no but she's not on air she does stuff you know
Yeah behind the scenes yeah sure sure a lot of journalists do you always want to make clear
in it yeah now so she she's seen none of the the meteoric rise of Carl
right right she's been away for the whole timeur, a wit, a cult figure, to be honest,
and he hadn't told her this, so apparently he went home when she was sitting there,
he went, she went, she went, she went, I'm not sure I want to go out with an idiot.
Oh no! Yeah, because, and she went, and she went, and she went, and she went,
and she went, I'm not Monster, won't you just think, of course the Loch Ness lives in Loch Ness. And she was going a bit of a hard time and she went, that's why I didn't, he said, that's
why I didn't tell her, I didn't tell her, I didn't tell her, I didn't tell her, I
didn't tell her, the school that I used to go to. Oh yeah. Oh yeah, oh yeah, you used to go to the school you used to go to?
No, but what I mean is I didn't go to secondary did I? So I missed a lot of that.
Sure. But primary I liked. Oh, it was all colouring in and stuff. And it was a Christmas play and I managed to get a part in it. And I should the the their their their their their their their their their their their was their was their was their was th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. It was th. It was th. It was th. It was th. It was th. It was th. It was th. It was that was that I was that I was th. It was that I was that I was th. It was th. It was th. It was th. It was th. It was th. It was th. It was the school. It was th. It was their. It was their. It was their. It was their. It was th. It was th. It was th. It was th. It was a th. It was a th. It was a th. It was a th. It was a the. I was a the. I was a the. I was a the. I was a the. I was the. I was the. I was a have been playing the drums to, uh, the one about Kings.
We three Kings.
Yeah, I was meant to be doing that, but Little Donkey came on.
And it was one of their...
What did you mean came on?
That was like next up on, you know, the next song.
Right, right.
And it's one of them songs that you can't that you that you that you that you that you that you that you that you that you that you that you that you that you that you to you? Do you know like, um, like if I was to go, um...
Yeah, you'd have to finish it with...
Yeah, do you know that they actually send that into space?
Do they?
And...
What, they do do that?
?
Because apparently it's, it, it is one of things that you can't help. What even through an alien life form? Yeah. They know that, do they?
But anyway.
Do they, did, do it, do knock, knock.
Yeah.
No, seriously.
Who's there?
Knock, knock, you just say, they have to say,
Swo.
Augie, oggy.
Oh, that is great.
That is great.
Look, hold on, what's something out there?
It was a little green feather.
That is great.
Yeah, so anyway, little donkey is like one of them tunes that you can't, and I was there and he had the drumstick and
oh god.
The drumstick!
I could feel myself.
And anyway, I started going along and playing little donkey, which wasn't meant to do but it went down such
a storm.
What?
Well there are people like parents and that dozing off and then suddenly they heard your
version of little donkey they thought wait a minute now but now it's really picking up.
I'm glad we paid a pound 50 for this.
What do you mean it went down such a storm? Would people have like Ringo? It was like we ring-Bing go join in the b b b b b b b b b b b b b b b. their th. th. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh.. Oh.. Oh. Oh.. Oh. Oh.. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the., we were a Ringo, join the Beatles now, it was boo, Pete Best, but he went, whoa! Oh, oh God!
But the teacher just said, oh, it went down really well, you can do that again tonight.
Right? When you're in it again, but anyway, so my dad was there and, and, uh, and you hadn't told him about me off. So anyway he turned up, don't
know why, he must have heard from someone else's dad. He turned up and he swore about me, which
did he? I don't... Could you use a word that... He's allowed to be said? The word? Of course it is.
Right. If you got a kid in the car or anything, you can turn it down. God. But he said, there was a guy stood next to him with a camera, big video camera filming it.
And he said, yeah, film it, but try and avoid getting the twat in the hat in the shot.
Because I had one of those porters, you know, a little round pork pie and tops on.
Right. This is so sad. Was this a nativity play? It was about Jesus and stuff. Yeah, well there was a porter there helping with his bags.
Yes I was, I forgot.
Mary and Joseph, they got there.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, because the inn was full, but I think the porter doubled up with the inn
and the stable.
Right, that was actually, yeah.
Yeah, he carried bags over.them, but I was. And your father said that and how did you know your father said that?
Did you hear it?
I told you about it later.
Yeah, I was talking about that stuff had done at school and he said, oh God, I spoke to him
the other day about it.
Right.
Oh God.
So that was the end of. You could have like been like, who knows a whole new world for you? Yeah, that is.
I haven't done any stuff.
I never drummed. I've never drummed.
I wish I had, man.
I wish I had to.
But that is, that is, that is a movie story.
But that's why you don't, and that.
And that's why, and that, and that, and th Digital couldn't they? They could do. But you wouldn't want that with you? I don't want that. No. Play record, I don't want to talk to you again a little bit
about this later. Yeah.
All right.
I first played on this show by Steve Merchant, by bad Steve Merchant. That's true. And by Steve Scratch Merchant. I mean, I still like that, but the video's
put me off it a little bit because it's just, it makes it into the novelty record, it always
had the potential of being. I agree, I agree. Although I was never a big fan of Babysitter, bad BaBsit. Bad Babysitter was not my favorite. th. th. th. their. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. I. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I still thiiii's thi. I still thi. I still thi. I still thi. I still thi. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I thi. I still still still thi. I still thi. I still like theeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. I still still thithey can always email in Rick, of course. Or call you at home.
Just give me a ring at home is no problem.
Or I just pop out and hang with them in the hood.
Yeah, sure, sure.
Now it's time for White Van Man Man.
Wight Van Man.
Wight, Van Man, man.
Yes, for those that, I think every day actually, and they just get sort of some, you know, Joe Public to kind of comment on the week's news.
It just seems to me, you know, that it might be interesting to get Carl's views on some
the big events.
Not because we think that Carl hasn't got a valid sort of viewpoint, because Carl's
because Carl sees the world differently to some people. That's all, that's that's interesting. That's interesting Yeah. Do you feel that you're up to scratch on this week's news? I don't like this, but...
Don't you?
Don't just relax?
Why not?
No, no, because you just have to give us your first opinion.
For your honest answer, that's all we've ever asked of you, Carl, it's all you've ever given us, you're honest, your first from the heart heart, to to heart, to heart, to heart, to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to be, to be, to just, to just, to just, to just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, to just, to just, to just, to just, to........... to, to, to, to, to me... to me. to me. to me. to me. to me. to me. to me. to me, just, just, just, to me. to me, to me, to me, to me, to me, to me, to me, to me, to me, to me, to me, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, to me. to me. that people are listening and thinking you're an idiot? If my girlfriend's listening now, go and have a wash or something.
Go and have a wash. Not very nice is it? Is it the opposite of Napoleon and Josephine?
Yeah, go on and go on. If you're going to visit me again, Josephine for say,
watch. I'll leave you in with something fairly easy, a music-based question. Kylie Menegegu is Queen of the Brits. What's your view then?
Um...
Going out and watch.
It doesn't really matter, does it?
It doesn't really matter?
With the Brits.
I was watching it the other night and, um, I think Kylie will be a good-looking old
woman.
Ah! Do you ever do this sort of... Steve, I want to celebrate with you.
I want to celebrate with you every time he opens this man said something I want us to
open a bottle of champagne.
I know what you mean?
Do you know what I mean?
Yes.
Go on.
Do you know that though?
I know the person who swings a mind, Jenny Powell.
Who's Jenny Powell? Is she that girl that used to be the assistant on Wheel of Fortune on Leslie? Yeah, I think she's a bit over the top for a young woman, but when she gets older,
I think she'll look... Be a bit of a stunner? Okay. So for you, Kylie, whereas you don't feel
that about Dido, is that right? She's all right. She's normal. I prefer Kylie's sister. I prefer I can imagine her being a hard work to live with and who Kylie?
Right, right.
Right, sure.
Right, go.
Okay.
Excellent.
And what do you make of taxes rising in the next budget to pay for NHS improvements?
When my dad went to hospital to have an operation once, so I feel like it's worth paying it?
Because I've got some things.
Because people might have to go to hospital. Yeah yeah it makes a change when it's someone in
your family don't it? Yeah because you sort of realize yeah it changes as good as
arrest and the weird thing is if you want for me dad I wouldn't be here
doing this show because when he was in hospital well no no no because he's. Well no that would be here. But his more direct involvement was what?
Yeah because when my man was seeing my dad in the hospital I got a bit bored
went for a wonder found the hospital radio station and got a gig. Really?
So in a real sense if it wasn't for Carl's dad, Carl wouldn't be here.
And did your dad like while he was listening to you, did he like tap the nurse and go,
can you get that twit off the air?
Who's put him in that?
Okay, um, what do you make of the real life mogulay who's surviving in a Transylvanian countryside?
Apparently, I don't know much about this story.
I don't know what? he's the guy in the jungle book. Yeah, a little kid that grew up with bears and animals and stuff.
Apparently there's a real life one in Transylvania.
What were the things in Gremlins?
What were the things in Gremlins?
What were the things in Gremlins?
What were the things in Gremlins?
Wait, wait, wait wait wait wait wait just really think now Carl
Just with all with everything you've ever with all the brain power you've ever used
Think what the things in Gremlins were called. It's not there. There's a clue here.
Oh no. Yeah? Yeah. What?
What? Gremlins? Yeah. Play a record Carl?
Oh, oh. You're shan't the ba.
Well, we're back.
And there's a few more people there.
It's absolutely. Well,
thrown.
Yeah.
that's, thrown.
Yeah.
Do you want to say tho'er.
And what are you doing here? Absolutely well done. Yeah, yeah observed. Yeah. Do you want to say hello?
Hi guys.
Hi guys. And what are you doing here?
This is Mark and James or Scor and Belch and we're here.
Sorry, so the last thing. Or what?
Sco and Belch?
Sco and Belch?
Do you want to explain that?
No.
From the drinking games, I imagine.
Yeah. Oh. I've got worse names than that but it's radio saying. Sure. Now you're presumably students? We just we've just we've just
graduated when we've been in work like about a year or two. And what do you do? I work
for a distribution company up in Birmingham. What okay now you're doing is a scavenger
hunt and you're raising for cancer charity? Right and you've got to do, and this is, we're just helping me out here
because for 17,000 points you have to get live on a TV radio show.
That's exactly it, yes.
So there we are. That's where we're here.
Yeah, have you ever listened to XFM?
I know of it, yeah. I listen to it a few times. What kind of music, what kind of sounds th and sounds, th and sounds, th and sounds, th and sounds, th and sounds, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thousand, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha''a'a'a'a'a'a'a'a'a'a'a'a'a'a, tha, tha, would you normally be into? Uh, I love cheesy radio, sort of, you know, 80s, so.
Sure. Sorry, what was your name again? Mark, or Sco?
Sko.
And your belts.
Belch.
And what sort of sounds would you be, uh, cheesy?
Chee, well, a bit of house just very occasionally, a bit of cheese. A bit of cheese. A thi. A bit of a bit. th.'t listen much but you I mean kiss a celeb because Carl... Yeah we actually wanted
to do that with you Ricky is that right? No. That's not gonna happen with Ricky but
you know Carl's now got his name mentioned in Heat magazine is that right well
that's brilliant. We'd love to see that I mean we don't want to snog Carl to do something but um what you're saying a female placenta well if you've got one have you seen some of the female
projections that work on X-F oh present is that why they're on radio I think
placenta I think that's unlikely I know what's the other things you've got
to do here so what some of things you've done well somebody's worried me like start a fire in pudding lane oh we've done that ween th so ween ween ween ween ween ween ween ween to ween ween to to to th so th so th so th so th so th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th the E tho tho th th th th th th the the the th the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th is is the th is th is th is th th th th th th th th the is to to to to to theeeeeean to to thean thean to thean thean thean thean is theeeeee is the I tell what we have done. We've been on Phantom of the Opera Stage already.
Have you? Yeah, we just asked the stage door guy.
That wasn't during the show, I see.
And that's right, we also, he actually mentioned that, yeah, we shouldn't speak about
that. Otherwise, he'll get sacked. But yeah of friend's impersonation, so that was pretty cold.
We got 2,000 points for that, we got 8,000 points for being here right now.
So that's absolutely great.
I would say I wouldn't worry about the little things.
I'd go for the big, the big class.
And we get double that, we're not interested in little stuff want to go for the big stuff so what are the big ones are get
on stage of S Club 7 that's not gonna happen is it what when you got to two
six today well yes club 7 are on at the London Arena at about two
cloaks so good like I think it's gonna bethese are bordering on the illegal, that's 20,000 points for that. Like getting a cage at London Zoo, don't do that. I mean, it's 10,000
points but don't do it. Unless it's a penguin cage. I mean... That's what we're hoping, just
some kind of Timid Animal we might be alright with. Yeah, sure. If anyone's got any good ideas sort of funky things to do on, then, then, th, th, th, th, th, th, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, don't tho, don't tho, don't tho, don't tho, don't thi, don't tho, don't tho, don't tho, don't tho, don't tho, don't tho, don't, don't tho, don't, don't tho, don't tho, don't tho, don't tho, don't tho, don't tho, don't tho, don't tho, don't tho, don't tho, don't tho, don't tho, don't tho, don't tho, don't tho, don't tho, don't tho-no-a, don't thoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo-n, donthen it is. Maybe some vest clubs are you listening? If they are, it is for charity and the points get awarded into money for colon cancer
research so it'd be absolutely fantastic if we could.
Yeah so Bradley, John, Tina, if you're listening.
Yeah, it'll be listening. Or any celebrity out there who's a female celebrity,
we need to snog them. It doesn't need to be a long sign. Wait a minute. If we can, that'd be great. This is good for 7,000 points. This looks like a good one.
Play the organ in a church.
That must be easy. Is that a metaphor?
Yeah, but you know what church people like?
It says the bigger the better, so it might be.
Yeah, it's gotder, big gun type thing on the HMS Belfast. That way the first one. Well we've got a big gun, it's just finding the boat which is the
problem is this. Oh, calm down. What was your name? Po? Poe?
Skate. Thanks very the home of charity.
That's true enough.
Yeah, I've got to slow down because I'm doing a little bit too much for charity.
I've got to worry about myself sooner or later.
Do you know what I mean? No, come on? We're halfway through a white bandman.
We were indeed, yes.
Getting Carl's views on some of the big stories of the week from the news.
Carl, what do you make of the fact that the British Olympic curling team won a gold medal?
I watched it.
I thought it was really good.
Um, the only thing that's getting on my nerves now is like, what's that? Is that a trombone? I just sneaked in. That was me moving this microphone.
Right.
That's incredible, wasn't it?
What amazing noise.
The only thing is?
That shouldn't sound like that, should it?
That's incredible.
What a shoddy Timpot station this is.
Well, we know that.
Sorry Carl. Go on. It's like, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, in, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, was, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, what, the, the, the, the, the. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It, is. It's, is, is, is, is, is, the the the the the, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the, was. It's, was. It's, was, was, was, was. the know the star and the sun all week they've been like traips in models over a bit of granite do you know like how those things are made out of granite
the things they throw oh yeah I just that and that bit annoys me okay
what the daily star no the way that you know this sport nobody had ever sort of heard of it a couple of weeks yeah yeah yeah the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the sport the sport the sport the sport the sport the sport the sport the sport the sport the sport the sport the sport I the the the the the the the the the the sport the sport I the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the sport the sport the sport the sport I the sport the sport the sport the sport the sport the sport the sport the sport the sport the sport the sport the sport I I I I I I I the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the and now in the papers it's like... They've gone crazy, they've gone crilling mad.
It's a good game now.
Yeah, good, okay next.
Alright, good. Let me see, let me see, let me see, let me see, shoo.
What about the fact that the world's tallest man is living in a semi in Neesden?
Uh, it's all right, Nick. Something like thii, that, that, that, that, that's thu, thu, thu, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, tha, th, th, th, th, th, th, th. th. th. th. th, th. th, th. th. th, th. th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th. th, th. th, th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi's thi's the week is that, do you know all these tall people like
this guy?
Yeah.
Which is a bit weird they've only just found him considering the tallest man.
Do you know the guy who was in James Bond, the big bloke?
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Um, the guy who was in James Bond, the big bloke? Yes.
Jaws.
He's got the same illness as this bloke.
Right.
And what it is, it's called Tall.
It's something about...
You're suffering from tall.
You've got a small tumor or something.
Just behind this part of your head.
Yes. Just sort of in the pressure. And th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the. the. to. to. the. the. the. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the. to. tole. to. tole. tole. to. tole. to. tole. to. tole. to. tole. to. tall. tall. tall. tall or something. So he needs to get it sorted. That's your advice to him. Get it sorted. Okay very finely, Carl, this is important. This is just projecting
into the future. Just projecting into the future now, Kman. Apparently, global warming will bring
sizzling summers and weird wildlife to Great Britain in the future. Are you worried about that?
How soon enough for you to worry? Yeah, the future. Are you worried about that? How soon? Soon
enough for you to worry? Yeah it's pretty worrying. Okay. You don't you wouldn't
prefer it to be sunny here all the time? No because with hot weather comes
weird spiders and that. See I always think we're quite lucky here. Yeah.
If you live in Australia you might have the sun and stuff, but you've got like deadly snakes, which are deaf.
Did you know snakes are deaf?
Snakes are death?
They don't have theirs.
Okay.
So you're all right walking about behind them.
Yeah, but if they see you ahead of you, you're in trouble.
But yeah, we places like Australia, you know, people go, it's great, it's sunny, but they don't talk about the spiders and they keep the spiders yeah quite so I think we've got a bit of the both the best world so you're
worried though about in the future they've vultures flying through the sky
we got various creepy crawler snakes you can tell about that yeah well
there's a load of sparrows in the week There's a load of sparrow somewhere.
Read all about it.
Sparrows somewhere.
Sparrows somewhere.
Load of sparrows somewhere.
There's somewere.
Excellent.
That's great.
That's Carl giving his views on the news.
Don't do that next week.
Why not?
I just don't like it. Why? Pressure. It's not pressure. that pressure. That pressure. That pressure. That pressure. That's that pressure. That's that pressure. That's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's. that's. that's. That's that's that's that's that's that's that's not that's not that's not that's not that's not that's not that's not that's not that's not that's not that's not that's not that's not that's not that's not that's not that's not that's that's not that's that's that's that's that's that. Don't do that next week. Why not? I just don't like it.
Why? It's not pressure. You did brilliantly.
Yeah. Lost Profits there on XFM 104.9 and I like that, it rocks, I like the guitar,
atmosphere, it's good, but it's called the fake sound of progress. I know, I know.
See what always noise me is when people, they dismiss, you know, say Enrique Iglesias, current
number one, a great song. Brilliant video. And they say, oh it's rubbish and all that, but I think that songs with the titles like, of progress, much more something to get on your hobby horse about.
What has happened in that video?
Bad lyrics by good artists is always worse than I think the recording song.
If you're listening or if you work for the ruck comedy or you worked on that video, because
he's got the money and the girl and then Mickey Rork beats him up right. You just see him knock he's, you just just just just just just just just just their the next, and then, and then, you, you, and then, the the the the the their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, th. their th. It desert there's loads of police cars they're not doing anything they're just standing around probably eating donuts he's dying of
injuries but I don't know what happened they don't what has happened in that
video I think if you heard the 12 inch mix there's a whole bunch of
other sequences to explain yeah I mean we'll think it all we think that he
stole the girl off Mickey Rock as well as well as some mcickey's the tracked him down and he's thinking I'm going to stop running, I'm going
to face Mickey this time.
He does and then boom, you're right, it cuts and suddenly the police have shot him or something.
I don't know where they are.
I don't know.
The police seem to be leaving. Mickey Rourke's off with his gang, the police are going, well you know where are there? There's no evidence. They're going, well how did he die? How is he dying?
He's not, he's a bit wet for the way. No in Rourke though, Rick, I imagine he's stitched Inrique
Aup. I bet he's framed him or something. Or he's no sort of like ninja stuff and there's lots of internal injuries that aren't immediately. Anyone if you were??. the in. tha. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi's th. th. th. th. th. th. He's a the making of that video or indeed you are Enrique Iglesias, give us a ring.
If you're around. Come on, just just fill us in.
I'd need, I'd um, I'd rather play some adverts now than that.
I'd love to play some adverts right, but I'll say this, I'd also like to tell the listeners that coming very soon on XFM some huge news about Carl. It is. It'll that. It will. It will. It will will. It will will. It will. It will will. It will will. It will. It'll that. It'll will. It'll that. It'll that. It'll that. It'll that. It'll that. It'll that. It'll that. It'll that. It'll that. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's. It's. It's like. It's like. that. the like. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. th. th. th. th. th. th. Just. Just. Just. Just. Good track.
Good band.
But I'll tell you what, in the second hour I just want to play classics.
I'd love to be a bloody classic.
I want to play some Cure, New Order, Smith.
Do you know what I mean?
You know, we played Nirvana earlier, but it's not enough for me, Steve. You need your fix you fix. I want me. I do, well, it's that point in the show now.
Song for the Lovers. One of my favorite singers, probably one of the most beautiful singer
song writers of all time. Well, you don't mean that, you don't mean it's a good-looking bloke, can't you fancy him? I mean, I I just I just I just I just I just I just I just I just I just I just I just I just I just I just I just I just I just I just I just I just I just I just I just I just I just I just I just that I just that I just that I just that I just that I just that I just that I just that I just that I just that I just that I just that I just that I just that I just that I just that I just that I just that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that I that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that th. I just that that the songs you write are beautiful. You can take or leave him as a bloke.
I can't imagine his physicality.
And I've got, I've got, and he's written such brilliant classics with his lovely
ass as, oh, what did I say that?
Why did I say that?
Why don't you listen and misinterpret? Oh God. He wrote Galbuston, he wrote, um, the Lord from Macartre- He's the C. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thin's thin's thin' thin' thin' thin' thorough, he's thorough, he's thorough, he's thorough thorough thorough thor. He's tho thor. He's thor. He's th. He's thor. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's written, he's written, he's written, he's written, he's written, he's written, he's written, he's written, he's written thea' that that thrown. He's written thrie. He's written, he's written, he's written, he's written, he's written, he wrote MacArthur Park and just to tickle him down below, what, I don't know
what, say he lives.
And this is a song, my most beautiful songs I've ever heard, it's off, I feel, I've been
ten easy pieces which is just him doing the versions of other, you know, that he gave
to other people on piano.
And this is called If These Old Wals could speak and it is absolutely beautiful. Listen to this. If these old walls could speak by Jimmy Webb. Might play another track off that later if we got time.
What the day? Yeah, well maybe or maybe next week. We've got lots to pack in.
We've got things like New Order Cure.
I'm just hoping that all those kind of New Metal fans, Rick can just calm down for a second, you know,
and just enjoy that for what it was.
Yeah. I hope they're not, we get try and pack lots of stuff. Well why she's talking about new metal can I just say Ian Comfield is here tonight
is moving from Fridays right what the hell does he think he's doing? It's just
offering up information then no it's just like you were talking about the new
mettlers and that seems like a good time to listen. Oh listen you're here for our amusement yeah you don't you don't you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you you the to the the the their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their to their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their th th th th th th. th. th. th. to to to to to to try. try. to to to to to tho. tho. to the. the. the. the. the. th you want. When we decide it's time to sort of have some fun at your expense then we'll let you know
but otherwise.
Yeah, we're not here to help other DJs or even this station we don't give a about this.
So this is what my girlfriend said.
What's that?
Well you should listen to her.
She knows what she's talking about clearly now.
She said they just, they just, put, put, put, put, put, put, put, put, put, put, put, they's, they're, they're, they're, they're, they're, they're, they're, they're, they're, they're, they're, they your microphone off Carl and let us finish what we were saying. Right, just what were we saying Rick?
Ian Canfield has got a rock show. Oh right, yeah.
It's starting today. Four hours of pure rock. Yeah, he's probably here smoking, drinking
Jack Daniels and just like having pictures of Vance put up around and we're
getting the move, then it go out and rock. Carl, don't be silly. Turning your microphone on. We're joking. It was, uh, is that right?
When's he on?
Eight till 12 tonight, four hours of rock.
Lovely, listen, some big classics coming up, plus.
Huge news about Carl.
Please let's play some more ads.
Do you really want some else?
I'm tired of the music and chat.
Please play someM, 104.
That's what it's all about, Steve.
Absolutely classics.
Yeah, we've got some more classics coming up.
Looking forward to him.
Now, when we were talking to Carl in the week, things were talking to Kau is that you come
with something that's sort of like quite innocent and he goes, well at once right and you realise
that it's comedy dynamite. He doesn't know it but we want to go save it and he
let out you were filling in a form why don't you it so it's all like your
girlfriend thinking you're a div and it's happened before isn't it because she
came home and you'd filled out a form to get a job and on it... well look Carl explain yeah
you see that this is what annoys me with job applications because rather than just saying do you want the job and what can you bring to this business
yeah do you want the job is a good one
because the thing is that that that's sort of the end for the boys
no listen right because if they say no I don't think they want the job yeah but i thi i think i thi they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they thi thi they thi they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi the thi thi the thi thi thi thi thi they they they they they they they they they they they you do you have to take people on and stuff Well, I'm gonna fight you mean, you know what I mean? Yeah, and I think it's more important that you're willing to graft and put the hours in sure
Then say that you know you did well at school. Yes, sure because if I wanted to I could have done well at school of course I just I just didn't want to the? So where is it going? So, where is this going? So the the to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to they? to they? to to they? to their? to to their to to to to to to to to to to to their their their to to to to to go. I to to to their. I their. I their. I their. I'm their. I'm their. I'm their. I'm their. I'm their. I'm their. I their. I their. I their. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I'm their. I'm their. I'm their. I'm to. I'm to. I'm to. I'm to. I'm to. I'm to. I'm to. I'm to. I'm to. I'm to. I'm to. I'm the to. I'm the the the the? So when it came to the qualifications bit and that, I couldn't fill them in because I didn't
have me qualifications.
And I was also asking about your languages.
And I put down English quite good.
English quite good.
Heah.
And his girlfriend came out and seen the form that he'd sent off and this was a copy of it.
And so she went, oh, you know what I mean? So that's what that's they. And th. And th. And th. And th. And th. And th. And th. And that's th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. their thi. their their their their, their, their, their, their, I their, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm the. th. th. the. th. th. th. I'm. th. th. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I was. started you know the disappointment so they're gonna get that and think that you're not
English I don't think I've got it was ages ago right how long was it oh
well it was when I was still in Manchester so five years ago I don't think
I don't know no no I think you know I think you know I think that they could be a long list I thin thi there there there there there there there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's probably there's probably there's there's there's there's there's there's there's the the the the th th th th th I'm th I'm th th I'm th I'm th I'm th I'm th I'm th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th I th I th I th I th I th I th I the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the they could the they could they could they could they could they could they could they could they could the meant by it is that mean you know I can speak English but I don't know all these long words
that people use all the time. Oh God oh can I just tell this quickly?
In the week I'm talking to you now of the listener usually I don't yeah
Carl said oh about embarrassing him on air and that and he's worried worried about his education. And he was worried about not knowing long words, like we come up with any long words.
And he said, no, I was scared. You were going to ask me about someone and his Eastern
European leader, his surname is Milosevic.
And Carl said, so I learned it so you can't catch me out in case you said, what? And he said thought about it he went flobber damn Molosovit
whoooooo
got the surname right though didn't he so what's his name
what's his name that's how Bill and Ben would address this leader
how would they have said it flobberdam a loss of what's his name
slobodam yeah yeah well done yeah well done anyway anyway car look the the the the the the the the the the th is th is th is th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th. th. th. th. the. the. I the. the. th. I th. I the. C. C. C. I the. I the. C. C. C. I the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. I I th. I the. I the. I the. I the. I the. I the. I the. I the. I the. I'm tote. I'm tote. tote. tote. tote. the. the. the. the the. I the the the the the slip then as you were talking about your filling up that application form. There's some big news that everyone needs to know, which we were stunned by in the week,
although the more we sort of talked to you, the more it starts to fall into place.
Look, Carl, what's the story?
I haven't got me, uh, my exam results from the GCSEs.
He never that way. You think you took maths and English, don't you? Yeah.
And you think you've handed in the artwork for art.
Now art was some continual assessment, wasn't it?
Coursework.
And what was the, and what was the, that was the, that, that, that was it, that. A man, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. that, the. that, that, that, was. that, was. the. the. the. the. the.this? So that one's passed. Was that a homage to break-ins in Manchester? Was this? Oh look, he does what he sees? Yeah. So you've got that
safe. You definitely got that one. So you've taken art, you've taken English and maths, you think.
So this is what we're going to do, listeners. We're going to try and find out his exam results for him and tell him next week. Live on air.
We're going to call his school, we're going to try and track him down and we are going
to have a little envelope and we are going to give Carl at the age of 29 his O-level results.
G-C-C-S, yeah.
Now, Carl, so you took maths, you took English? Yeah. Okay. And how did you think you did well? I don't think I did well. You don't think you did well? Did you revise? No. Why didn't you revise?
Why didn't you revise? Because I don't really believe in it. Okay. Well it's just that if you don't know it, then you don't know it. You shouldn't have to start looking at a book. If I went to the doctor, if I went, like, if I, if I, if I, if I, if I, if I, if I, if I, if I, if I, if I, if I, if I, if I, if I the, if I the, if I the, the, the, the, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, why, why, why, why thi, why thi, why th, why th, why th, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why the, why, why the, why the, why the, why the, why th, why th, why th th th thi, why thi, why thi, why thi, why don't thi, why don't thi, thi didn't thi didn't thi didn't thi didn't thi didn't thi, why don't thi, why don't thi, why the, why thi, and the doctor said, oh you need your appendix out, but hang on a minute, I've just got to read up on it.
That isn't good enough.
Okay. He should know, and that's the way I feel about it.
To be fair though, he did do the revision beforehand.
Yeah, they don't usually pass on like maybe like when they're in practice. Yeah, information they took him by osmosis. Yeah, and the the the the they. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. the. they. they. they. they. they. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. the that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.? I was, you've passed. Phew. That's the good one. Good job I watched casualty.
I just like the way, you know, the things that interest me, I remember.
Things like snakes not having ears and stuff.
I didn't have to read about that.
No, you just read that.
You saw it on the telly.
You saw in that
program he said, snakes don't have ears, right? He said, so you can creep up on them
and pick him up and he said, and he said, to him the girl's to my girlfriend, I said, how do you put a snake down?
She said, what you're talking about?
I said that, Ian Wright thing, this guy managed to pick up a snake, and do you know that thing
where they clamp its head on the jar to get the poison out?
I do know.
Right?
Yeah.
They did that, but had its head press in the jar. Yeah, right? They hate that. Now, especially as in front of their mate. When you lift
it off, right, you've got old of it, yeah. If you go to chuck it down, it's going to turn on you.
It's going to go wild, isn't it? So I just wondered. Well what you do is you never put down, you never put it down, Carl? th. So, Carl, Carl, Carl, Carl, Carl, Carl, th, Carl, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, it's that, it's that, it's that, it's that, it's to, to, that, that, they. It's they. It's they. It's they. It's they. It, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, is, is, is, is, is th. It's th. It's that, especially that, especially that, especially that, that's basically that's basically that's basically that's basically that that that that that that that that that that they. It's basically, that, that, that's why that bloat has got about 11 or 12, just carrying him. Exactly.
Yeah, you never put it.
You sling it, who cares?
You just throw it, don't you?
Really far?
That's not, I don't think you should throw.
But Carl, listen, don't you, we're not asking you to get involved with snakes. We're just asking you, now, you did you, you, you've, you've, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th.. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. You, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you what it was? Did they ask you about Shakespeare? Did they ask you about books? I can't remember but I must have done it because I thought that was...
It was English language, not English literature, wasn't it? So it was it, no, was it like a comprehension,
you've read a passage and had to ask questions on it? Was it? Was it? Did you have to write a short essay? Okay. I did a science. Okay, I did a science, I did. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. th. th. th. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was. Was it. It. Was it. Was it. Was it. Was it. Was it. Was. Was. Was. All right, well done. And this is all you think?
You actually took that? You actually took physics, GCC thing. You're obliged to do a language,
you actually took, you're obliged to do a language? Did you do French?
I did French for a bit. I don't think you are. I don't think you have to do a language. I think you have to do it. Well, English quite that's quite quite quite quite quite quite quite quite quite quite quite quite quite quite quite quite quite quite quite quite quite quite quite quite quite quite quite quite quite quite quite quite quite their English, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I that's, I that's, I that's, I that's, I that's that's, I that's, I that's, I that's that's that's th. I that's, I that's, I that's, I that's, I that's, you're that, you're that, you're that, you're that, you, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, I that's, I that's, I that's, I that's, I that's, I th. I've, I've, I've th. I've th. I've th. I've th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. You're thi. You're th. I but you just can't remember, I can't believe you can't remember turning up for these things because it's
quite a big moment in people's lives. It is that, it is the thing that you've been
working to all of your educational life? On the day that the things came out, I was working as a printer, as a printer, and it was a lot of spelling it. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. It was a th. It was a th. It was a th. It was a th. It was a th. It was a th. It's a thi. It's a thi. It's a th. It's a th. It's a th. It's a tho. It's a thi. It's a thi. It's a thi. It's th. It's a th. It's a th. It's a th. It's a th. It's a th. It's a th. It's a th. It's a th. It's a th. It's a th. It's a th. It's a th. It's a th. It's a th. It's a th. It's quite a th. It's quite a the. It's quite a the. It's quite a the. It's quite a the. It's quite a thi. It's quite a thi. It's athat day. Oh-ho-oh- and it's, yeah, yeah, yeah, you're not offering so you don't, you don't know.
No, that's the biggie, isn't it? But it's tough, you've got to really get your rollers
clean.
Carve, play a record, mate.
And good luck with the exam results.
Hopefully we'll have them home of the classics. Classics. Classics. Classics.
Oggie, Oggie, Oggie. Oggie. Ooy. Oh, Oye. Well, we were talking earlier about this, as this book, they died young.
And there's all these theories about this book, they died young, right?
And there's all these theories about these people, like famous people that aren't really dead.
And I remember speaking to someone about this, okay?
And they said to me, Bruce Lee is not dead.
They said it's not dead, right?
And at the moment I said, well, how do you know? It was a whole big thing by the Hong the government government government government government, tho tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, th, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, thin, thin, tho, tho, tho, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th, th. And, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. And, thii. And, thii. And, thi. And, thi. And, thi, thi, thi, thi, th well, how do you know, I was going, no, it was a whole big thing by the Hong Kong government and he's actually working as an undercover cop in Hong Kong.
I've said it.
Using his Kung Fu powers.
Now, he's apparently, he faked his own death, Carl.
So that he could work undercover for the Hong Kong police, infiltrating gangs,
that sort of thing. Now my point is this, if you're going thi, if thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I the most thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I was thi, I was thi, I was thi, I was tho, I was tho, I was thi, I was thi, I was tho, I was th. I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. I thi, I thi, I thi. I thi. I thi. I was thi. I was a thi. I was a thin, I was a thin, I was a thin, I'm thin, I'm thin. I'm a thin. thin. thin. thin. thin. I'm thin. thin. I'm thin. I'm thin. I'm thin. I'm thi. I'm thin. I'm th th th the triads that sort of thing. Now my point is this, if you're going to use someone undercover in Hong Kong, right, you know, an undercover cop, I suggest using the most famous Chinaman of all
time. That would be... Yeah, that would be... Yeah, yeah. So you know when he's taken away a gang, they're going, you look a bit like Bruce Lee, no, no, no I don't see this moustache. Well, thi thu thu thu thu thu that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's they. they. they. their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their thr-a. true. true. true. true. tri-uu. tri-u. tri-u. tri-u. tri-u. thruee. I thrue. I's their th know. See this this moustache? It's a bit wonky. Well, just take my word for it. I'm not Bruce Lee, right?
Well, all that stuff he did when you punching us and kicking us and chop.
Yes, but...
I'm not.
It does look a bit like the stuff in my film, in his films.
In his films, yeah. But it's not... It here not trying to offend anyone but they do all look they do all look no no I've no I've no you know we're having a serious chat
right I'm not you know I'm not you know I'm not here to upset anyone right and what
I'm saying is over here I'm so sorry I'm not yeah but you know me I'm not I'm not out
to upset anyone right you're not a racialist no what do you mean you are you saying all look alike well look at
the people over here right yeah with like you've got you've got you've got
ginger people who are black hair you've got people who are fat people who are
thin but they're all so sort of fit which isn't a bad thing they all do that sort of thing in the park they're all fit they they they they all they all they all they all they all they all they all they all they all they all they all they all they all they all they all they all they all they all they all they all they all they all they all they all they all they all they all they all they they they they all th they all they all they all they all they all th they all they all they all they all they all they all they all they all they all they all they all they all they all they all they all they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they the th th th that that that that tho tho that tho they're all all all tho they're all all all they're all all all all they're all all they're all they they they do that sort of thing in the park. They're all fit. It's a place
where black hair, I mean when they come here they set pictures of people with Ginger Air
don't they? Because they don't get them over there. That's what I'm saying. So calm down.
Gee. So you're saying that Bruce Lee, the most famous Chinese movie star?
They can't tell him apart.. Other tri-members would... How are they... I mean, how are they going about the vicious at all?
I mean, what I'm saying is, how would they even realize that was the guy?
What do they have to do?
Where numbers?
You know, because there's a billion of them.
No, but when you know them? So what, oh, I see, they can can can can can can can can't, they can't, they can, they can, they can, they can, they can, they they can, they they they can, they they they can, they they're, they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they? they? How, how? How, they? How, how? How, how? How, how? How? How? How? How? How? How? How? How? How? How? How? How? How? How? How? How? How? How? How? How? How? How? How? They? They? They? How? They? They? They? They? They? They? They? They? They? They? They? They? They? They? They? They? They? They? They? They? They? They? They? They? They? They. They? They. They. They? They're. They're. They're. They're. They're they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they can? They they can? They Simon, which one are you? Just raise your hand, Simon.
Chang, which one's Chang? Chan, good.
Yeah.
Oh, it must be murder, mustn't it?
Just, people going into the wrong houses all the time, getting off with their mate's wives.
Exactly. Yeah, it must be a nightmare.
Um, Carl, please don't complain. He doesn't know what he's doing. So I'm really sorry to anyone that's a bit.
He honestly does not know what he's saying.
XFM 104.
to 4.9.
Yeah, but what I'm saying is, go on.
I don't think I am offending anyone.
Okay, fine, that's all right then.
And you know that I wouldn car, turn your radio. So before you make any potentially racist remarks, just point out if you are listening and
you might be oriental.
Please don't take offense.
Oh, oh.
You know what I mean?
Yeah.
So what was this other dead person?
What?
Can't play a record.
Ricky's having a heart attack. We'll come back.
The music of tomorrow is here.
Ex-FF.
The music of tomorrow is here.
That's true enough.
It's been some sort of muck up with the post.
Rick, a lot of the times when I've played hip-hop-hurray,
my hip-hop track of the week,
you've sort of scoffed, you've thought that maybe I don't have credibility amongst the hip-hop fraternity.
No, it's just the way you dance. Well? It's merely the way you dance that worries me.
Because people can't see it, really. And it's sort of like, imagine if Mr't diss you I mean I know you're you're a hip-hop appreciator you know I wouldn't expect you to diss me on the black
queen but the point is that I just there's a little something that Carl's got on
tape for you that I think might change your opinion of my whole hip-hop
credibility now I've told you in the past you know I'm not not
not all to actually Carl just play just the the the the the the the the the the the the th Carl just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the they I I I I I I'll all all all all I I'll the the the they. they. Those are, tho. Those are, tho. Those are, tho. Those are, th. Those are, the words, the it? Listen, we were talking earlier about the fact that Bruce Lee, and it's a well-known
fact.
He faked his own death so he could continue his undercover police work as opposed to being
true and stuff.
No one was different to anyone else.
I was talking to someone as well recently who um utterly convinced, and you get
this quite a lot, especially Americans, that Elvis Presley is still alive. Yeah. And I think wasn't there some statistic like more people believed Elvis was alive than thought than believed evolution was that right?
Yes. No no no no no it's something like 42% of Americans believe that Elvis, Presley is fake to his own death and is still alive. Right. And there's this whole book that's been written about it, because Carl, you might be interested in this. I know you're always fascinated
by things that have been written down and therefore a gospel. And apparently, and you don't have to revise
yourself, you just learn off E and write. But apparently, the reason that Elvis is still alive, is that there's a number of piece of evidence. One is that none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, none, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, that no, that no, that no, that no, no, that no, no, and no, and no, and no, and no, and no, and no, and no, no, no, and no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, and no, and no, and no, and no, and no, and no, and no, and no, and no, and no, and no, and no, and no, and no, and no, and that, and that, no, and that, no, no, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and that, and no, and no, and no, and that, and no, and that, which color pajamas he was wearing when he died. That's evidence apparently.
Apparently, you know he was an honorary member of the FBI. Well apparently his
signature appears on FBI documents well into the 80s long after he should have
died. Apparently no one can agree there was sums of money. A lot of
the fat people in Dungarese have seen him. Yeah there's a number of
sums of money which apparently only he could have given authority to have toferred to other bank accounts they've moved so this is all
evidence that Elvis is still alive and a lot of people was understood this
he was saying yeah well of course the thing is he the pressures of fame were
too much for him that he faked his own death so that he no longer had to be
this this huge icon you know he could live in ordinary life and my query is always always always always always always always always always always always always always always always always always this this th I I I I I I I I th is th isthink the method he'd have chosen is to have
shat himself to death whilst on the toilet?
Yeah, but because he picked that, nobody will doubt it.
Right?
So Elvis went to the FBI. What do you make of it?
What do you make of it?
What was saying, Carl, is that there was lots of methods open to him, you know what I mean?
It's all like, he didn't go to his secret reasons, go, oh I'm fed up on and I want to fake my own death.
I mean, and they go, yeah, yeah, what methods have you got?
I like to be found shit myself down the toilet. You like to do what? I want to be a big fat, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm afraid, I'm afraid, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I'm, I'm, I, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm afraid, I'm afraid, I'm afraid, I'm afraid, I'm afraid, I'm afraid, I'm afraid, I'm afraid, to tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, tha, thin, tha, thin, to go, I'm afraid, I'm afraid, I'm, I'm Right, I'm just... Obviously it's a good idea. I'm just wondering if there's maybe something a little bit more glamorous. If you're going to figure it, I mean you could
take a bullet for the president. What shit all over him? Just shit all over him? No, we know. We know
we know crap at all. It's just, you just take a bullet for him or you could. There has to be shit involved? Why is it got why? Why is it? Why is it? Why is it? Why is it? Why is it? Why is it? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? Why? I? I? Why? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? I? th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. He's worried about the things we say.
Yeah.
Geez.
We haven't offended 1.2 billion people.
Yeah, a fifth of the planet.
So, Carl, what do you make of it then?
Are you convinced Elvis' other life?
Um, is it, am I getting mixed up with someone else?
Because all Elvis, all Elvis look alike?
Because... Now that is true, a lot of Elvis do look alike.
That's safe.
On his gravestone, didn't they get his name wrong?
Or is that his brother?
Who's his brother?
Um, Aaron.
No, that's his middle name.
You're not an Elvis kind of expert, are you?
Hold on, was Elvis, wasn't Elvis one of a twin that died? That died, and I'm sure he got his name wrong in a grave or something.
Ah, I don't know.
But that's, so consequently that's proof he's still alive thing.
Like I say, he picked that awkward death because nobody would be saying,
going around up setting the family, wanting to talk about it, because they'd be embarrassed to be saying, you know, it was found sort of in a pile of mess.
Weighing 25 stone.
Yeah.
So.
Because you noticed he also expanded to a huge size as well, so he was just a huge fat blob
of a man.
He also did that, you know, extra.
So the glamour.
I don't quite understand all these what, in a roundabout way, we're saying. We're saying that a lot of people that say people they didn't, like Bruce Lee,
and James Dean and Elvis Presley, we're saying they didn't fight her deaths.
He did die, didn't he? His head come off, isn't it?
Oh, thank you? Who's the Smith's XFM 104.9, nearly through.
Absolutely. Two hours of chat, great music.
Bloody good music. Carl. Of course. Speaking before he thinks.
By the way, you know when he was going about
Mowgli you know he was going to talk about Mowgli and you said oh what are
the Gremlins called? Yeah you were you thinking of
Magui! Magui! But they were still called they were gremlins. Yeah yeah I know
what you're thinking I know to be fair. My girlfriend won't listening now, so she'll still think I'm a bit daft.
She... How could... Why would she ever think that?
How long have you been going out with her?
About eight years? Well then, why would she ever think you're daft?
That's the only stupid thing you've ever said, the Mug-I think she's going out with a, to be honest, a retard.
I think it's a very beautiful relationship you must have, you know, because it's odd,
I mean she's a professional journalist or whatever, you know, and she works for, is it, radio
five or something?
BBC Sport.
So, presumably, her English quite good?
Is it, is English quite good, her?
Really good? Yeah?
So...
And did she do her exams? Yeah, she's quite bright. Sure. So what do you bring to the relationship?
I think I take the pressure off her? Take the pressure off her to do what? You know, like, when she's had a stressful day and she comes home and talks to me, I think? You would relax me, and that's the truth. Honestly, if I, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, that, thi, thi, tho, she tho, she th, she th, th, she th, she th, she th, she th, she the, she the, she the, she the, she the, she's, she's, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she th. She, she th. She, she, she, she th. th. th. th. th. thi, she's, she, she's, she's, she's thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, the. thin, the. thin, the. the. the. thea. the. the. the. the. the, she's, she's, she's had a stressful day and she comes home and talks to me I think. You would relax me and that's the truth.
Honestly, but you know, Carl you can just go, wow, it's alright.
Do you know what I mean?
You don't get stressed.
He sits in his little booth now, he doesn't talk to anyone, his little booth, ill
the week. And you just, you're just, you're just, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, just, you, just, just, you, you, you, you, you, just, you, you can, you can, you can, you can, you can, you can, you can, you can, you can, you can, you can just, you can just, you can just, you can just, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, you can, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you can, you can, you can, you can, you can, you can, you can, you can, you can, you can, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, you can just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, just, you can just, just, just, you can just, you can just, you can just, you, you can just, you can just, you can your aspirations are. I was thinking this I was watching a repeat of family fortunes on Chalise TV last night and it was sort of mid-80s one and I don't
know if it's still the case but it was the aspirations of the contestants so
kind of it was like and what's your hobby? Well you know I like to go out
when it's nice weather and stay in well if you're in 2,000 pounds you you probably be going out when it's nice you to the the the the to to to to to to the to to to to the the to the to the to the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the their their their their their their their th is is is their their their their their. their. I know, I sometimes like to watch TV, you know, and I was thinking, wow, man, you've really got some incredible
dreams. It's just like that, you're just waiting to die, aren't you? That's all you're...
What I feel sorry for, right? Two things, look, you know, in like stars in their eyes, and you and you get aton and he comes on and he does you know
something like Bobby Darren okay and he's in and and Matthew Kelly comes out
after he goes well I don't think you'll be going back to the fish factory
you will you will be going back you will straight back yeah yeah let's think
all the stars and the rise cons that have gone on to great things well
I'm not a little feto think of all the stars in their eyes contestants that have gone on to great things. Well haven't that a little feather looked like the little Alsatian puppy
that did Christopher? He looked like he had problems. Well I, yeah, now what was it? Is Ian
Moore? His name was. Now he was, now, he was interesting. My friend bought me as an ironic gift for my birthday. He bought me the live video of their th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. He's, he. He's, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he looked, he looked, he was th. He's th. He looked, he looked, he looked, he looked, he looked, he looked, he looked, he looked, looked, looked, he looked, looked, looked, looked, looked, looked, he looked, a number of other hits. But it was, it was really, it was called, it had a picture of Ian
Ian on the front, it said, Ian Moore, naturally.
He's not, he's no longer being Christopher.
He's just naturally., didn't he?
He met?
Yeah.
Well, I think Chris their couldn't wait to get back on the tele.
Well, the thing is, I think, I think Ian Moore is actually earning more than Christopher.
I think they could have got Christopher on there.
Yeah, you can get Christopher for a th does all the hits. He does, don't pay the fairy man.
Yeah. Don't even say they price. There's all those.
Interestingly I saw him interview once and Lady and Red's not his favourite song.
You're joking. It's bizarre, isn't it? But he was only going to play that if...
it was the fat, uh, ginger... Sarah Ferguson. Oh yeah. It was only if she was wearing some red.
He was only going to play that way.
Yeah, well it was a live thing and he was only going to play that if she was wearing red or something.
Right. That's beautiful. No, so luckily she had a red, that must have clashed with her a bit.
A red scarf on her face.
And the highlights in your hair that catch the light. Yeah, such a beautiful lyric. That look. That look. L I look. That lo lo lo lo lo lo lo lo lo lo lo. It, th. It, th. It, th. It was, th. It was, th. It was, th. It was, th. It was th. It was th. It was th. It was a th. That, it was only th. That th. It was only th. It was only th. It was only th. It was only th. It was only th. The thing is right, he misses a rhyme there.
He goes, uh, I asked you to, uh, I asked you to, uh, I asked you to dance, didn't he? I, uh,
I've met a man watching a bar, I'd sorgoned him for some reason, I was annoyed by him. I was annoyed by him, I was a noise by him, I'm him, I for it because I found that he was like a music lawyer and he went well give me a
call on I'll investigate that. He was actually gonna do it for me I was really
gonna do it for me I love the idea of that. Why did you say that? Really bored
and I didn't like him much and I was just and I thought that was um why did you choose lady and red thu as I th I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th you I th you th you th you th you th you th you th you th you th you th you th you thin why thin why I thed I th you th you th you th you th you th you th you th you th you th you th you th you th you th you th you th you th you th you th you th you th you th you th you th you th you th you th you th you th you th you th you th you th you th you th you th you th th you th th th you thin why thin why thin why to to to to to thin to to to thin to to to to to to to think thin to to thin to it pub is this? It was North. Is it? Yeah. Never seen look as lovely as you did to
need. So anyway those, that's enough of my Christopher anecdote. Yeah, it's very much the end of the show.
And it is, it's been a great, it's been a great show, yeah, what are you going to play? What are you going to play a song now and then we've got time for Apple? No, you'll have to give it me right now.
Well, can you keep people...
What have you chosen? I'll keep it going.
Well, a friend of mine who keeps making me little compilations is stuck on an old Tom,
which is from his first out of the one because we weren't prepared for this because we sort of ran out of time. We're having such a great time with the philosophy of Carl.
What do you fancy doing anyway with your future?
Me?
You know, I'll just gonna tell you now, you know, you know we're still on air don't you?
Before it gets too casual. You know we are still broadcasting to the Capitol. What do you fancy do me? What do you know what do you fancy do you fancy do you fancy do you fancy do you fancy do you fancy? What do you fancy? What do? What do? What do you fancy? What do? What do? What do? What do you fancy, what do you fancy, what do you f f f fancy? What do you fancy, what do you fancy, what do you fancy, what do you fancy? What do, do, do you fancy, do you fancy, do you fancy, do you fancy, do you fancy, do you fancy, do you fancy, do you fancy, do you fancy, do you fancy, do you fancy, do you fancy, do you fancy, do you fancy, do, No, you know, my future, I'm living in my future and I wanted to have some good mates like yourself and Ricky, you know, Carl I
wanted to be on the radio, want to play great songs. We're like the Three
Musketeers, me you and see. It's like, we're like the original Rat Pack,
we're at Oceans the Oceans 11 I'm Not Joey Bishop. Joey Deacon. My dad said the ending on the old ones better than the new one.
We should definitely get your dad in man. That would be just dynamite.
When people get tired of you, we've got the whole Pocenton family to introduce it.
The whole gene pull? Have you seen it? No. Carl, have we got time for this now really, to be. What, trap. true? true? true? true? true. true. t, t, t, th. th. th. th. th. th. We, th. We, th. We' th. We should th his first album and he doesn't sound like that kind of gruff, you know, lived in guy that he
wants.
He actually said something of a crooner.
Yeah.
But this is a track called Old 55, which bizarre I think might have been covered by the
Eagles.
But anyway, so I think it's really lovely, really beautiful track. For what? But if you offended anyone? I didn't. If I say sorry, that's saying I'm guilty.
Ha ha ha ha ha!
