Episode Date: September 2, 2022The show ran between September 2001 and May 2002 before Gervais and Merchant went on hiatus to film the second series of ‘’The Office’’. Initially, Pilkington’s on-air presence was relativ...ely minimal compared to what it would become. Gervais and Merchant only occasionally called for Karl to weigh in with his thoughts, while the two mostly talked to each other, with the “links” between songs comprising only about 30 minutes of the show’s 2-hour run time.As Pilkington’s personality moved to the forefront, the talk portion of the show expanded to roughly an hour per 2-hour broadcast. While the show relied largely upon a stream-of-consciousness format, Pilkington made attempts to keep things more conventional by insisting on running contests and airing pre-recorded segments and regular “features”.

Okay. Comedian Ricky Gervais has had a dressing down from a broadcasting watchdog for his

The Commission
acknowledged that the presenter's remarks were intended to be humorous but took the view
that the amount and detail of the core sexual innuendo had exceeded acceptable boundaries for
broadcast, said the BSC in a statement. The complaint objected to a section
in the comics Saturday afternoon show when he discussed the different meanings of the word cock. Jivais wondered whether the word was acceptable when discussing birds, but not the male sexual
organ.
A BSC spokesman said the comedian went on and on about it for nearly five minutes.
XFM, a self-styled alternative radio station said in its defense that its remit
was to provide cutting-edge programs for a youth audience. The station said the program's brief was to include elements of alternative comedy within certain shows that would not fit within a more mainstream
radio station format. In this particular show it was not the presenter's intention to shock
when they took a humorous look at how the English language could be construed in different ways within different contexts.
