The Ricky Gervais Show / An Idiot Abroad - Xfm S1E6 (December 15, 2001)
Episode Date: September 2, 2022The show ran between September 2001 and May 2002 before Gervais and Merchant went on hiatus to film the second series of ‘’The Office’’. Initially, Pilkington’s on-air presence was relativ...ely minimal compared to what it would become. Gervais and Merchant only occasionally called for Karl to weigh in with his thoughts, while the two mostly talked to each other, with the “links” between songs comprising only about 30 minutes of the show’s 2-hour run time.As Pilkington’s personality moved to the forefront, the talk portion of the show expanded to roughly an hour per 2-hour broadcast. While the show relied largely upon a stream-of-consciousness format, Pilkington made attempts to keep things more conventional by insisting on running contests and airing pre-recorded segments and regular “features”.

Strokes last night on XFM 104.9, Rookie Jovey's show.
With Steve Merchant. Definitely.
Ahoy.
And little Carl Pilkington over there.
Little K-P, the K-Man.
Steve?
Yes. Don't worry anymore.
I procured some great gifts to give away.
I was time.
Really?
Really? I've seen all these other people getting gifts and that and it all going to, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the, the, the, the, the,Dilly, yeah. And Anderson and Sturgeon, or she, at least she steals on myself.
Well, at least she steals myself to sell them to feed the habit, and that's why I don't
mind that because it's industrious.
No, exactly.
But I have got feeder, I've got the eczo-paire, I've got the essential Bobb Dylan.
And I thought we could that that that is that is that is that is that is a this is great prices. And I thought we could play that trivia quiz where we, we're the
challenge. They get someone to catch us out maybe or some of the question. You confused
me slightly explain again? Well, we could play a little trivia quiz, and then we could sell the fish. And then we could sell the fish. to to to to to to to to to to the fish. to the fish. the fish. the fish. the fish. to the fish. the fish. to the fish. to the fish. to to the fish. to to to to the fish. to to the fish. to the fish. the fish. the fish. to to to to the fish. And to the fish. And to the the fish. And to the fish. And the the to the the the fish. And the fish. the fish. the fish. the fish. the fish. the fish. the fish. the fish. the fish. the fish. the fish. the fish. the fish. the fish. the fish. the fish. the fish. the fish. the fish. the the the the the the the th. tri. tri. tri. tri. tri. tri. tri. tri. triv. th. We. th. We. the the the the the. We. We. Then, and we could do this...
What's the quiz?
I don't know.
You're not thought this through?
No.
No.
No, theyrown.
You've got to keep talking with it.
We're on the radio.
I got bored.
Did you?
XFM, 104.
Yeah.
What I was saying was, thiiii. Yes, we could have a little trivia quiz right this is how it works their phone in yeah Right and they pitch a question to us too right we won't know it they'll tell Carl and car write down the answer
Yeah or on his email right and then it might be something like oh? Who was the first woman?
Um, oh, who was the first woman? And they write it down you know I mean you'll write down something like the Queen
yeah and I write down Brittany Spears and they go well Rick's is British and
the answer is the let you see yes yes yes yes and then whoever's so they could
they phone in or do they can email as well Steve right okay so let me just. Okay so let me just try and clarify this because I th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. they they they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the they're they're't really follow that and I know what the competition is. Right. People listening, phone in or email in
with a question, a trivial question, it can be about anything. I don't do game
shows, that it's not. But one which we may be able to get, right? They phone him
with that or they email it in, but only Kyle knows the answer. the only Kyle the thi only only the answer the answer the answer is is is is the answer. the answer. thkkk. thk. thik. thik. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thiolkilk. thi. thi. their. their. their. their. their. their. People. People. People. People. People. their. People. People. People. their. People. their. People. People. their. People. their. their. People. they. thi. People. thi. People. thi. thi. People. People. People. thi. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I's. I's, tri. I's, tri. I's. I's. I's, they. I's. I's. I. I. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I write it down independently. We hand it the car we see who's got the right answer. It's like 15 to 1 but 2 to 1. And the great
thing is that the best question that we'll vote on at the very end of the show
can win these three CDs. We've got feeder, Echo Park, the essential Bob. That's
a two CD set Rick. Maybe keep therivia and trivia. We've also got this big compilation, Reloaded 3, that's also a 2CD compilation.
We'll start phoning and emailing and emailing with your trivia questions.
Absolutely go berserk for Jervais and merches.
Well, don't start giving him to that.
Well, don't say that.
Well, don't say that.
Well, I'n't say that. Well they should do they should do trivia entertainment music and films is what they should do. No they shouldn't. That's the cliche of XFM listeners and I know they're more intelligent than that.
They're not.
They're not, Rick.
They're stupid, stupid people and they only know about a few things.
Garbage, cherry lips on XFM 104.
Well, either they are going mad. We didn't even give out the phone number or the email Rick. Shall I just give it out now? Well obviously don't
need to? Well I've also anyway for those that didn't hear it, we didn't know it already. Oh eight,
700, 800, one two, three four. Sorry that's not oh eight 700, 800, one two three four. Sorry that's not oh eight seven hundred, oh eight, I I I I I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, we, I, we, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, we th, we don't, th, th, th, th, th. don't, th. don't, we don't, we don't, we don't, we don't, we don't, we don't, we don't, we don't, we don't, we don 1,2, 34. And when he says he fluffed, like, that's not how he got into television.
Exactly.
Ricky.Jovase at XFM.co.
tok.
If you want to email the question, and only Carl can see the screen,
so there's no cheating.
Probably people don't know what fluffing is, do they?
No, I don of the show. Yeah, yeah, you good one, dripping them in. Ask this my question. I thought this was a good one. It's
from Clive. Go on in. Clive, we've got a listener called Clive, why. That's all right.
Who was the first James Bond? Oh, right. No, but wait a minute, I know this ambiguity because we've talked about this ambiguity before you see he could, he could, he might might might might might might might might might might might might might might might might might might might might might might might might might might might might might might might might might might might might might might might might might might might might might might might might might, he might might, he might, he might, he might, he might, he might, he might, he might, he might, he might, he might, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, the, the, the, their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their their their their their their th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. might be deliberately embarrassing us because the old myth is that
someone played it on radio, that we all know and love. Now he should have specified, did
he mean the film, James Bond? The first film, James Bond? Can I can, can I just say, we won't
count this one because the definitive one, I'm sort of to glean about it as well, it is, it's his doctor, the first one of the team that we's, th....... He, th. He, th. He, th. He, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi, thi, thi, he, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the. th. the. th. He. He's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's. Yeah, he's. Yeah, he. Yeah, he. Yeah, he. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah was the first one of the team that we know. Sean Connery, so Sean Connery is the first screen James Bond. So we agree on that even if we're both wrong.
What did he say it is?
I bet he said, I bet he said, it was Bob Holness who played him on radio in like the 1950s.
He didn't say the radio bit, but he didn't say the that. Bloc-bustorsus. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. thuuuu. thus. thus. thus. thu, thu, thu, thu, thu, thu, thu, I. thu, I, I, I, I, I, I thu, I th. th. th. th-I. thu, I tho, I th. th. th. I th. I th. I th. I that it was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. he, I, I, I, I, I, I was. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. It may be a myth. Well now I don't think it is.
It's that we can't count that.
One point to me then?
No, yes.
No.
Well, you definitely.
Did you know it?
Yeah, we know it.
Yeah, but if you know it was.
Well, if you talked about it,
It's the same team and it's just... Yeah but that wouldn't have been the first James Bond anyway because that came later in the series. No rig! No no no no no no no no don't play the music! That's clearly a point you didn't
know it's Bob Holness, he meant it was Bob Holness. I knew the answer. Well, the the the the the theo'n'n' the the answers the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the wooooooooooooooooooonenenenenenewoooblea woblea woblea. the woblea. the woblea. question and the answer the man was after was Bob Hollis.
And that's the answer I gave.
The answer I was after was me.
But that's not such a question master the man who phoned in, that's ludicrous.
You can't say what number am I thinking of.
That's what you're talking about.
No, but I knew the answer.
.. the answer, you, you, you, you, the answer, the answer, the answer, the answer, the answer, the answer, the answer, the answer, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, the the the the the question. the question. the question. the question. the question. the question, the question, the question, the question, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he. the answer, he. the answer, he. the answer, he. the answer. the answer. the answer. the answer. the answer. the answer. the answer. the answer. the answer. the answer. the question. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. the the tho, the the the question, the question, the question, the question, the question, the question, the question, the question, the question, the question, the question, the question, he's, he's, the question. the answer he was after. So brilliant. Yes, because that's, you know, even if he's got it wrong, it's such common parlance
now that Bob Holness was the first James Bond that I knew the answer.
Face the facts!
Right, give us another question, Gaze the other question.
Guys are bad losers, isn't it?
I had a good one here, but you've forgotten it?
You've't it? We can edit this out, can't we? It's not a lot of it.
It's only a piller.
This is going to look great when it comes out.
Go on.
Which food?
Yeah.
Um, you know, making up the question?
No, no, it's just that I sort of took down the important bit.
This is amazing.
This is amazing.
This is amazing. amazing radio. Go on. Which food kind of doesn't make you fat?
Oh Jesus. What kind of question is that?
Oh, this is... No, it is proper.
I love, I love, imagine this on the weakest link.
What kind of food doesn't sort of make you...
I mean, it doesn't make you fat.
Um, what, what, okay, do you want to...
Basically, no sort of calories in it.
Um, celery? Water.
Whoa, I mean, what do you mean?
Do you mean a vegetable?
You're right, you're right, apparently you...
Yeah, it uses more calories to bite it than it.
Yeah, but wait a minute, wait a minute, Rick.
One, one all.
No, what's it? What do you mean?
You thi. You th. What, you th. What, you th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You're to th. You th. You're right? You you. You th. You th. You're right? You're right? You're right? You're right? You're right? You're right? You're right? You're right? You're right? You're right? You're right? You're right? You're right? You're right? You're right. to. to. to to to th. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. Right. to. Right. to. to. th. to're writing this that! You said water! But that's because I thought we weren't taking the question seriously
because you didn't know what he's talking about!
Why not? We've got to set the rules.
This is new.
Bit too much like Porter's head for my liking?
Was it? Yeah, I quite enjoyed it.
I quite enjoyed it.
Well, that's because Porter's head is it, I. Is this one, is this question a real question with a definitive
answer or is it like, what is my most comfortable chair? I don't know why people aren't going to
maybe like trivia pursuit or something, just getting a questioning off that and then... because
they're a little bit more discern than that, Steve. Have you heard the questions,
I don't know what they're talking about what they Ask it, ask it, the car. I look at the car text down and goes, what's that?
I know.
What am I meant to write?
Go on and ask this one.
Right.
What sort?
No.
The Pope.
Yeah.
Yeah, the Pope.
Yeah, the Pope.
the weakest link, Carl, goodbye. Yeah, go on. The Pope. Yeah, we've got the Pope.
Yeah, that's not strictly a question.
He wears a...
Oh, God.
He wears a dust man's at.
He wears a gulmine trouser.
Yeah, he lives in a council flaple.
He wears a semi-precious stone.
What's the stone? You mean what is it called? What is it got like a
kind of papal name? I think it's like you know is it a 18 carrot one? So we
got to try and get the carrot of the Pope's big diamond? He calls it Dennis he calls it
Dennis the stone. Does they want the they want the type of gem it is like or is there some kind of papal name for it or do they want it like the Rosetta the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the? the. the. the. Or is there some kind of a paper name for it? Or do they want it like the Rosetta Stone?
Or the, oh, you-
Oh, I can't actually.
Play a record.
Play two records.
Let's stop.
Where's you had that?
Basement Jacks.
Right, OK, let's get this right. Have we, have we, have tho, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have. the. the. the. Have, have the. Have, have he is. Come in. Huh.
How have you?
Oh, God.
I don't believe that.
Oh, that's pathetic.
I do not believe that.
That's absolutely pathetic.
Now, they won't believe this, will they?
Right.
If I say that Jonathan Ross just got his massive member out, and he is a big lad.
Come and sit down. I've got your tickets, Mr. Gervais. What's going on here then? I mean, why are you dropping off tickets?
Well, because, you know, in the spirit of the comedy wars, we like to have the rising young
stars of the British comedy world. That's right, and that's me. Well, we couldnowed and now and now we've seen you know it's on webcam that that was just
one of my cocks. That's the one you're wearing today. Did we don't say that? No
we were not. It's just meant to be the happening young station what's going on.
Yeah no you can't just careful what you. That's geniuses you're I figured out, just because you're on everything at the moment.
I walked in here and I thought this is the young happening place and what do I see in there?
three old men sitting here.
What are you talking about? I'm only 28, 27.
You all look at you all. You're all wrecked. You all look at the youngstek. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I th. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. But look at him, even dresses for radio, look
that it's amazing. It's like, you're one's the fact you were on the phone to
Javais last night, weren't you, asking his advice? Yeah. On clothes, look at him. Well, look at the thin' the the tree, notree. It's th's th's thin' thin' thin' thin'n, it's thin'n, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's the, it's the, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look. It's a nice. It's a nice. It's a nice. It's a mean, they've got a whole faint panel that pulls it forward.
The thing is what I do, at the end of the week,
I can pop these in the pan and I can make a nice suit
with all the food that's encrusted in them.
At his years as a homeless coming to the forehaw there. Look at you, one at you suddenly got this obsession with Javise? I'm a bit of rough, eh?
Yeah, it's like when you see Dale Winternet with those rough boys, I'd like to get one
of the young.
When a top celebrity in a lovely looking suit, walks down the corridor with his
penis out, I know that I'm still attracting.
You know you've arrived. I was in aug in all in in in in in the same, I the same, I the same, I the same, I the same, I th. I th. It's like it's the passing on of the baton if I may use that you from it.
And you've been battened.
It's fantastic.
Well, it's, it is a pleasure.
I don't think I'm complacent just because I'm mixed with you.
I still wake up and think, I don't believe it.
I'm just the benefit of the boo.
Yeah. And talking about when you used to occasionally urinate in the sink.
Yeah. When you were around my house last time and I was planning
and I was like, when you were around it, and I was like, the the the the the.
And you're not as much, please, theyrown. to, to, to, to, to, in that go, as Javais been around it, it's like just marking my territory. Because my coffee the next morning had a hazelnut tang to it,
that I don't remember putting in.
Can I just say something about,
because I mean, I used to, I used to,
I used to, you know,
I used to mention to you when we first started

Is that the right answer?
Is that the right answer?
I don't know.
I'm really sorry, Jonathan. to know because I was hanging out with him at the Grouchon one night and he was saying, look at this, look at this, look at that tow badge, can't buy that, look at that, Vatican City.
Look at that, we can make a nice ring out of that, he said.
Didn't go anywhere but thanks for asking.

Jonathan Ross just came in there and to drop off some tickets for the comedy award show that he's hosting later this evening. Yeah. Interesting of course a
man who's 40 and still thinks it's funny to get his penis out.
It is. I love that. I look because it's like when's that novel you're going to wear off.

Yeah. I mean he came after a three hour radio show he's just done on radio to. Good show by the way
worth tuning in. Um, it came straight radio, dropped some tickets up for. He's now got to go and
rehearse that show. I was like with you last night. Yeah. Can I just ask you two questions, Godfather?
One is, have we won a prize tonight?
I don't know.
We genuinely don't know.
Can you have someone iced for me?
Exclus, what are you suddenly got over all these people that they're doing all this?
When have you suddenly become the daddy? Well I've th, I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I've th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th. I've th. I've got th. Well I came from nowhere and you know I've got I've got polarides of
the head of all the stations yeah exactly because what I'm worried about is
that like when we're wrapped up in our winter coats you're walking on there
and you're a little sort of you know little black cover and I
and I must look like your hood you know like your go on a good good. Twice is tall. Very much like Edward G. Robinson and I.
Yeah.
You are with a pug face, obviously.
Yeah, well, don't go about it.
Sorry, that's a freak.
All right, no, I don't know what you just know.
Wow.
Even Jonathan Ross couldn't save this show.
No.
It's the only celebrity I know.
Yeah. I'm all out of ideas. can't read. Or write. Yeah, and that's what is it? So are we knocking the trivia game off the thing?
Yeah, yeah.
So let's have one final question.
What's the answer?
I don't know.
I don't know.
For the Pope one.
I don't know.
We couldn't even figure out the question.
What's the question. Anne Thurst. Amethyst. Amethyst.
Yeah.
Anne Thirst.
No, she was the first woman MP I think you'll find.
Amthirst.
Rubby or Diamondo.
Um, so have you got maybe your final questions?
That's one on it.
Okay, do it a side and then we knock this on the then. Where? What? What? Who?
Have you not been practicing?
In all these, we've had ads, we've had music.
Oh, where what?
Rick, I don't think we should call ITV later.
Maybe he was talking about Jonathan's inquiry about Sartorial Elegance tonight,
where what?
Maybe he's just like summed up that conversation. What's the most expensive pub in London? I think he won't know because he never pays.
Hang on wait a minute, what does that mean?
What does that mean?
To buy? I'll buy the pub.
How much does that's a millionaire?
If you go in, according to the timeout guy, 2001, if you went in there and Imagine this on Millionaire! Imagine that question on Master Mine?
I know, your specialized subject, how much things are in that, and whether they make you fat when you eat them, then?
It's in London. Is this like some guy went in the pub last night and thought, this is a bit pricey?
This is the most expensive pub I've ever been in. I'm going to expose them on Ricky and Steve's show. Does it mean like maybe is it a pub the pub the pub the pub the pub the pub th. Is it th. We quite like him. He's digging a grave for us. Right, listen, this is a new feature I've introduced called Songs I'd Like to Play on the Radio. Oh, it's just fallen apart. And a friend of mine sent me a little CD of little treats and stuff. One of them is this this th th th th th th th th th th th th thin thin thin thin thin thin thin thin thin thin thin thin thin thin the. the. the. the. the the the the the. the. the the the the the the the the the the the the the. the. the. the the the the the the th. th. the th. th. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the thee to theee the the the the the the the One of them is this track it's called Monkey Man. That's not true.
I'm a cold-eat-tie-puncte.
I'm a cold, Italian pizza.
I'm a co-skitter. I'm a cold Italian pizza.
I've confused a lemon squeezer.
What did you do?
When talked in midden I've been told around me
because she's right in the town.
Have you, babe?
Well, I am just a monk, man.
I'm glad you are a monkey.
One, two.
I was bitten by a boy.
I was gout and I was gone.
Let's run on two.
Yeah, it's an ounce like a broken egg.
I always have an unmade bed.
Don't you?
Well, I hope we're not too many sciatic or a try for the juice or tannics.
Love's a bit of blue.
Well, I'm just a month's and I'm just a monkey, and I'm glad you are.
Mocking, marquet woman to the to I'm a monkey. I'm a monkey, man.

I'm a monkey. XFM, 104.9, no, ma'am? Rolling Stones and a track called Monkey Man. That's
from a double CD not available in the shops. My friend Dave G made a compilation for me.
Bride it onto CD using modern technology. That's one of the tracks on there. What's his name?
Dave Greenwood obviously breaking several copyright laws there. I would not encourage
anyone to make copies of anything for anyone. It's breaking the law. Dave Greenwood lives in Nottingham. I can give details. How dare he did that for you.
How dare he did that for you? He's sickens me Rick. He's making you know. He's making you?

Just pawns in his game, can we? So I'll be playing another track from that later on.
I've got a lovely couple of little tracks from my hip-hop selection.
Looking forward to? Is it a cool day? Did you get a little gift here from? XFM? I did. I got a lovely little voucher here. It was very nice. Yeah, very thoughtful. I've also got one. How much is yours for? 25 pounds. To spend at John
Lewis or waitress a little kind of gift voucher there. Oh I think I'd do wait. Oh, I think I'll do
waitroes because food. You can get a good lot of food for 25. Yes, you're right. You can't get a lot of like habaashry. So. So. So. So. So. So I. So I. So I. So I. So I. So I. So I. So. So. but I've limited where you can spend it.
It's like, they don't want to give money because that's go,
say this is like money, but not as versed.
Exactly. You can't spend it in as many places.
But it's the thing is that surely the thing about a was. Unless you're letting them make their buck their ideas up for next year. You know what I mean? If an aunt gives you like a
single, like a step single and you've given her 25 the body shop, you're saying
you know how much that single cost, so to why I'm not going to say, right? Let's
make up the difference next year, exactly. You know what I mean? Let's Do you know how much he got? How much should you get? Did you get a gift voucher as well? I work here a week.
Right, how much do you get?
150.
150 quid?
What and gift vouchers?
To spend at the same places?
I'd have to say though, I mean, it's not a very inventive gift gift is it, is a treat.
It's a treat.
My only thought...
He spoke to Jonathan Ross like he was a normal person.
From someone who's dad buys my spade for Christmas, I thought you'd be grateful.
My only thought is that John Lewis and Waitrews but I mean they're a little bit like the man
are they a little bit mainstream yeah what would be excited about this oh
play a record and don't make it a square record somewhat an indie label or
some of some that hasn't been even recording yeah they can't even
become available ever yeah I don't even what instruments they're playing oh some the instruments they're they're they I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I they they they they they they they they they're they're they're they're they're they they they're they they they they they're they're they're they're they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they the the the they the the the the they're the the they're the the they're the the they're the they're they're they're the they're they're they're they're they Steve, it's been a long time.
Eh?
What has?
That seemed a long time, well that music we've read.
Yes, no, you're absolutely right.
Yeah. It's annoying actually that Carl never went to the email because the questions have.
They've all been sort of neatly spout out with the correct answer.
For instance, I might have asked you this if I was the quiz master Rick. How many noses does slugs have? Oh, I think it's four. It is four. Yeah. Point to you there. Let me just see if I can find another one.
to see if I can find another one. Who according to the current issue of Viz is a Cycloptic pop tempterus?
Oh, don't know. Is it's um Gabrielle of course yeah two
points. Minor battery didn't get him. He's a rubbish. Have you ever watched a
question? Because I can understand the question they're rubbish I suppose
aren't they? It gives me a chance to know what what the answer is required.
Go on. Let me see if I can find another point. No that's you never going that one that's the told. the the the that one. that one. that one. that one. that one. that one. that one. that's that's that's that's that's that's that's the the that's the the the that's the the to be. to be. to be. to be to be to be. they. to be. to be. to be to be. to be to be to be. to be. to to to be. to to be. to be. to be. to be. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they's. they's. they's. they's. they's. they's. they's. the that one, that's too hard. Oh, no, that just teases you more, isn't it? What's the name of, oh that's boring, that one, sorry.
It's beginning to fall apart again now.
There we are.
What's the proper name for Big Ben?
Is it St. Stephen's Tower?
Is it's actually, that's the big band. It's actually in a weird way I didn't know any of those so it's actually quite good that
we did kind of balls it up with car because otherwise I'd have there'd have been
egg on my face. Yeah but I still won I just won less. Oh did you yeah you did
win yeah I've already forgotten already wiped out of my memory. Yeah and but hey hey Steve it's not the thi. what they are again just feed her Echo Park a compilation called reloaded three lots of great
stuff on there and the essential Bob Dylan two CD have you called him and told him
no yeah this is such a shambles nit because what if he goes out or something actually if he's listening can he gives a call that is so lazy can't he's a call he hewood? I would have got his number. I forgot.
Oh, this is unbelievable.
I said get the numbers, Carl.
I wanted to go for the Pope one.
Carl, do you actually work here in the week?
Or like, did you just, you know like in a film when they knock someone on the
head, put on the space you and go to the room. Yeah, is it like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like it like it like it like it like it like it like it like it like it like it like it like it like it like it like it like the the the the the the the they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. th. to to to to to to to to to to to get. You're actually working in the postroom, but Saturdays there's no one around that recognizes you.
So you pretend that you're a producer? Yeah. Because you don't seem to know any of the rules?
Because I reckon that name's made up. When did I say a producer? When did I say, I'm say a producer? When I say it. When I say, I'm the name. I'm a name, the name, the name, the name, the name, the name, the name, the name, the name, the name, the name, the name, the name, the name, the the the the the the the the the the their. It's a beautiful track.
I've played it before.
I'll play it again.
It's one of my favorite tracks of all time.
It's Bob Dylan.
If you see us, say hello.
This is the last song I ever played on the old ex-fo Okay. If you see her say hello she might be in Tangier. She left here last early spring isn't
living there I'm alright, those things get kind of slow.
She might think that I've forgotten her.
There's no to tell her it isn't so. We had a falling out like lovers often will.
And to think of how she left that night, it still brings me a chill.
And to think of how she left that night, it still brings me a chill.
Yeah.
And the wi separation, it pierced me to their heart.
She still lives inside of me.
We've never been apart. If you get close to her, kids have wants for me. Always have respected her
for me. I always have respected her for her.
For doing what she did and getting free.
Oh, whatever makes her happy, I won't stand in the way.
Oh, the bitter taste still lingers on from the night I tried to make her stay.
I see a lot of people as I make their rounds,
and I hear her name here and there, as I go from town to town.
And I hear her name here and there, as I go from town to town.
And I've never gotten used to it.
I've just learned to turn it off.
Either I'm too sensitive or else I'm getting stalled.
Sun down, yellow moon, I replay the past.
I know every scene by heart, they all win by so fast.
If she's passing back this way, I'm not that hard to find.
Tell her she can look me up if she's got the greatest singer songwriter of all time, with one of his best songs there.
Bob Dylan, if you see her, say hello.
Well, the greatest singer songwriter of all time.
Beautiful. With one of his best songs there.
Bob Dylan, if you see her, say hello.
She might be in Tangiers.
I mean, he's having a go.
I mean, he's having to go to Tangiers on the off-track to try and find her, I'm
going to bother.
Yeah, but I mean, you know, if you're going to be there, they're going to be desperate.
might be in tangent, have you checked upstairs? She's definitely not upstairs. Just just have a look. Well anyway that was song for the lovers, but because I'm
so excited about having such great prizes to give by for the first time some
albums that Carl found, we've got the lucky winner on the line. Hi Neil, you're

Oh, absolutely, absolutely. You know, I mean, it's going to really lift my Christmas
Hall. I'm not going to get to your home this year, so that's going to make up for it, I'm sure.
Neil, what, what are those three? Which one we'd be putting on first?
I think, Fetter, Echo Park? golf right now. That's madness. It's very cool about here.
What's your handicap?
It was my handicap.
My short game's terrible, but...
Right, yeah.
Yeah, you're going to be watching the National Comedy Wars this evening.
I hear that the office is nominated.
Ah, you guys are the shoe in.
Sorry? You're a shoe in. I'd like to go to one. I think it means like, um, foot in the door. Lovely. Yeah, no, not foot in the door. It's yours. Your name's already on it.
Oh, really? Well, I would think so. Yeah, well, why would Ross stop around?
I don't think he makes the decisions. Neil, thanks very much for calling. Those are,
those prizes are going their way to you. you alone. You guys are just like real DJs. Enjoy your game. Cheers, bye. Step on my old size
nine, stereophonics. Absolutely. Well, talking to Neil, it all brought it home. You know, maybe
I should give a little bit back. Yeah, you've had a good year. I'm hanging out with Jonathan Ross. I'm doing ads, right? But I care. I'm still in tou. I'm still in toub. I'm still in touch. I'm still I'm still. I'm still. I'm still. I'm still. I'm still. I'm still. I'm still. I'm still. I'm still. I'm still in touch, you know what I'm still down with it, you know, and it's coming up the time
of year where we should, you know, care about people with less fortunate to self.
And what I've done, I've recorded a Christmas single.
That's beautiful.
And all proceeds are going to, you know, to, you know, little sick people and that, and
are there's going to be any proceeds.
There's going to this morning, and you're going, doing some Christmas shopping, you go in the shops, and as always, you know,
walking in a winter wonderland, all those songs.
You know, no one writes those sort of things anymore.
No.
Well, you're wrong, Steve?
Really?
What's it called. It's C-I don't you, my, my, my, my, my, my, my, my, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. Santa still loves you.
And he's riding on his reindeer to trample down the gloom.
So don't cry, my baby. Santa, gonna make it soon.
Don't cry, my baby.
Santa's feeling kind, though you know, you never see him. He's not just in your mind.
And it's not that he's invisible.
It's because you're going blind.
So don't cry. It's Christmas.
Santa's still on time.
Don't cry, my baby.
Santa's on his way.
You know he's got six billion children and he's only
got one day you've got slightly less than that if I were you I pray so don't cry it's Christmas
you near me ten It's a little game.
You know, as far as I'm concerned, it's already become a standard. One of the classics.
Thanks. There's a star. Ash. Good. It's a great show so far, isn't it?
Enjoying it, Rick, but I'll tell you this, what worries me is something we've not done,
which is what we've not, we've not taken on board some stuff I've heard from the management.
They've said they've enjoyed the kind of light-hearted fliptery, you know, the past and the
past, you know, the likes of, you know, they just want to perhaps be a little bit more highbrow at times, a little more... Well, I'm a smart guy, I don't know.
Well, I've proved that, with clubs having four noses in Stephen's Tower.
Can I ask you, Rick, about politics?
What do you want to know?
What do you want to know?
I'm a political person?
I thope. Vote for the government, whoever is in the government. Yeah. The liberals ever? No, not if they're not in government, no, don't.
What about the foot and mouth, which a lot of people have worried about.
Don't worry about it.
No, no.
Recession is hit, a lot of people are losing their jobs.
Should they, what should they do about it?
Get another one?
the one you lost. Right. Okay good advice. Maybe get maybe if you were just like kind of the post
boy before like Carl. Get in charge of the company get a manager's job. Right
become director general or something more money. Good good good good good. And don't lose
that one. Okay and um what else is concerning people? We get calls all the time Rick to the station people saying I'm worried about the war war war war war war war war war war war war war war war war war war war war war.. the war. the war. the war. the war. the war. the war. the war. the war. the war. the war. the war. the war. the war. the the the the the the the the the the th. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh..................................................................................... the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the.. the.. We were saying I'm worried about the war in Afghanistan. Yeah. What do you make of the war?
Is it one of your favorites?
Well, what, no, no, no, no, my favorite.
But, oh, my favorite.
I'm putting you on the spot here.
Is it really?
Yeah, yeah.
Is it?
Is it?
It was a range? Yeah, I remember that. Yeah, drawing pictures at school or that. Yeah. It means that our missiles could go sort of 17 kilometers and the Argygyzoning missiles that go like, you
know, 9 kilometers. So we just parked our boats about 12, 13 kilometers off the way. And we
were shelling it out of there, right? And theirs were falling in the water. So it's
it's the war equivalent of holding a midgett at arm's length. and he's trying to punch you. And he can't reach him or just kicking him in the balls, at the will. That was sad.
Rick, a lot of people talk about WW1 as being the great war.
Was it a great war for you?
No, it was a good war.
It wasn't a great war. What I'm saying, I like the bayonets and the trenches and all that stuff, but I could have done the th done, th done, the tho tho the tho tho the tho the tho tho the tho the tho the tho tho the tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho-a, a lot tho-a tho-a' tho-a' to talk a lot of a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot, a lot a lot a lot, a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot a lot lot lot lot lot lot lot lot, a lot, a lot, a lot, a lot, a lot, a lot, a lot, a lot, a lot, a lot, a lot, a lot, a lot, a lot, a lot, a lot, a lot, a lot, a lot, a lot, a lot, a lot, a lot, a lot, a lot, a lot, a lot of people tha lot of people tha lot of people tha lot of people tha lot of people thaa lot of people thaa, a lot, a lot of people thau. thau And you know, I'm saying it is the only time that it isn't bent in a war, but you know there's a there's beautiful, but there's one now I remember,
it was um, we are the dead once we lived, felt dawn on our face but now we lie in Flanders'
fields. Be honest if you'd have had a gun in your hands, still of a pen, you might be like to be like today. And and the day. And the day. And the day. And the wa. And the wa you. And the wa you. And the wa. And the wa you. And th. And th. And there. And there. And there. And there. And there. And there. And there. And there. And there, you would be there, you would be like there. And there's there's there's there's there's there's there. And there. You there. And there. And there. And there. And there. And there. And there. And there. And there. And there. And there. And there. And there. And there. And there. And there. And there. And there. And there. And there. And there. And there. And there. And there. And there. And there. And there. And there. And there. And there's. And there's there's there's one. And there's one. There's one. There's one. There's one. There's one. There's one. And there's one. And there's one. And there's one. And there's one. And there. And Yeah, so that's politics, Carl. Any other questions, Carl you want to
solve any high- economics? I've done economics, more. Because yes, the economical.
Anything else? I just think you should look after yourself.
You know what I mean? I've just got something to say to you. Hip-hop, huray!
Hey, let's play my hip-hop track. Whoa! Hey, their hands in the air, move them round like you just don't care.
Yeah, you're not even bothered.
I'm playing an old school track this week, Rick.
I'm going back in time, rewinding the clock.
Oh, you're spelling school, Steve.
Oh, with a K?
Go on.
Ever heard of anything by digital underground?
The Humpty dance, you might remember that?
Do you remember that? That was a fellow sat on the wall. Yeah. Yeah.
And he was getting dissed by the police and he fell and he broke all up and the king's horses
shouldn't have really been sent to repair an egg.
They couldn't do it because of their hooves.
Anyway, digital underground for those that I don't remember was an Oakland group
led by Shock G and Chop Master J.
Go on. But of course most famous now for the fact
that they featured two-pack Shakur.
Love him.
Where you first began, you'll hear him on this track.
It's called, which one have I chosen here?
I think it's around the world.
Been all around the world.
All around the world to the same song.
Yo, we've been all around the world.
T's' same song.
All around the world was the same song.
All around the world was the same song. I came for the world, the same song. Then all I'm around the world, the same song.
I came for the party to get naughty, get my rock's on.
Eat pop corn, watch you move your body to the pop song that I'm singing,
funky beats ringing, everybody's swinging in the place as I keep the jays,
easy, why, r-sah, r-m-, mixing it with the hip-hop, spring beat, champagne, champagne, champagne in my hand, it won't be long till I'm gone.
It's just the same old song.
It's just a freestyle, meanwhile I keep to be kicking, sweat dripping,
girl he's in the limboating chicken, oops, don't get the grease on your panting hose. I love you rove'a, move over, I gotta blow, I've, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it's, it's the the the the the the their, it's just, it's the same, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's just, it's their, it's, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, don't you know? There I go, there, I go, there I go,
there I go, but I don't go nowhere without my Jim Hat.
What I'm rapping is if she's clapping and I'm strapping because I'm smarter than that.
Then, girl, maybe we can get along.
Cutie after cutie.
It's just the same old song, y'all. It's the same song. Uh, it's just the same song.
All man was the same song.
It's the same song.
It's all about the man, it's the same song.
Money diggy, the squeaky bitty, the squeaky bitty up and down.
Well, as a matter of fact, I'll be right back. But I got fame and the bases I've touched. Too much for me to try to be naming. A-yo, he saw me on cable and grimitting.
I bust it in and I was going to win.
Like Clark Gable back in Oakland, it's the same old song for Sporty.
Shorty, shorty, same freckles and hat,
same freckles and short. Here a hump, there a hump, everywhere I'm awfully humble. Shut up, and just listen, not dissing, don't really wrong.
But to me, it's just the same old song.
So just watch, because my name is shock.
I like to rock, and you can't stop this.
Tupac, go ahead and rock this.
Now a clown around when I hang around with a underground. Girls used to frown, say the same thin' they they they they they they they they they they they they they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they're they's they's they're they's they're they's they's they's they's they's just they's just they's just they're they're they're they're they're they're they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's. they's they's. they's they's. they's they's. they's they's. they's they they they they they they they they they they they they they they're they're they're they're they're they're they're their. I I their. their. tho' tho' tho' the same. tho' tho' tho' tho' tho' tho'a' the same same same same. tho' tho' in life, high? Same law can't go wrong if I played a nice guy.
Claim and fame must have changed now that we became strong.
I remain still the same, because it's the same song.
And all the man, it's the same song.
Same song, y'all no, it's the same song, y'all.
Y'a'am's the same old song.
It's just the same old song.
Never than me yet I'm the same song.
Ah yeah, Humpty Humph in the house, y'all.
You know what, it's the same old song.
All around the world's same song.
You know what, it's the same song.
All around the world, same song. Ross was slagging off the hip-hop feature wasn't he when he came in earlier and how can
you not like that? Digital Underground, same song.
I think he was scared of it Steve, I think it was intimidated by your youth.
Well he's scared of the youth, he scared of the fact that I'm down with it, the homies
and my bitches and my hose. Yeah, because he's not with that. You know, he looks dapper. If they saw him in the street walking down like a ponce, they'd just laugh and jeer, but probably rhythmically.
Yeah. Yeah. And he couldn't come back at anything. And you'd be high-fiving him. Oh, they'd
be loving me. I think he'd be high-fiving him. Oh, I think he was intimidated by your style. I think he's jealous of, the most. I's probably. I's probably. the most. the most. their. their. their. their. their, probably probably probably probably probably probably probably probably probably probably probably probably probably probably probably probably. the the the their. their. their their their their their thi. You've catching from me.
He's got nothing to compare it with.
But that was a great hip-hop selection there.
Yeah, lovely.
Even though I say so yourself.
Rick, we've had a couple of people, because. He says, what becomes a broken-hearted?
Oh, oh dear. That is a difficult one. I don't think I've got time to go into it because it's a very, it's a very delicate problem.
Can you answer this one from the KLF? What time is love? Any ideas?
Listen keep those questions coming in for Ricky Dresy, maybe or not to sort them out later. We got to see it that car. Oh dear.
It's not the end of the world.
Super Fairy Animals.
Absolutely beautiful.
Ex-FN-4.
R. R.R.
You're going to do your film review for us?
We've got time for it, I think.
I'm not. No.
Why not? I'm not going to do it anymore. It's great and I just think it's time, you know, I did a dozen, but I did all the films
that I would give like nine or, you know, 10 out of 10 for, I don't want to drop the standards.
Right. I don't want to start doing films that are 8 out of 10.
You see?
That's where a lot of film reviews go wrong. Yeah, I've seen them go, oh, this is worth seven. Don't do it. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. I don't th. I don't th. I don't th. I don't th. I don't th. Until a great film comes out.
Brave Heart 2 or something.
Yeah.
Which would be, well, nine now.
Quite an event for that.
Yeah, I'd have thought.
Yeah, so nine for that.
Yeah, so nine for that.
In advance.
Rick, it's almost the end of the show. But Carl won't be here next week. I think where's it going? Where are you heading, Carl? Going away for Christmas. Tell us.
What, it's a secret?
What, in case your fans try and track you down?
What, are you going, taking pictures of planes in Greece?
What, what, what, political?
Rubbing?
What, Soterical?
Where are you going?
? If I was caught in a foreign country and the government got me said, no it's okay, they were trains spotting or planes spot.
I go, no, I am a spy.
No, I am a spy.
No, you were, it's alright, you were train spotting.
I wasn't, wasn't spying, please.

Was it right or wrong.
I'll float away like honey in the sun.
Was it right or wrong? I couldn't sing that song anyway.
Oh, but darling now I'll remember half the sun shone down.
And how it warmed your praying smile when other love was there.
Over when I talk about,
when I think about, everywhere I go.
But sometimes I live in the morning,
Lord, I've found home.
That's how I know I've found home.
Well, here the mountain singing, Lord, I can feel ringing, darling out your name.
Well, hear the mountain singing, Lord, I can feel ringing, darling.
That's your neighbor.
Tell me if you know just how that river flows, loud to the sea.
How I want more,
River cover turns around.
I want to know.
I want to know.
Everything about you.
What makes you smile, what makes you smile, what makes you look in this way?
Darling, I want to know? Darling I want to know.
Darling I want to know.
Do over when I talk about,
the o'er one I think about,
everywhere I go.
But sometimes, honey, in the morning,
Lord, I miss you so.
That's how I know I've found the hole.
That's how I know I've found the hole.
That's how I know I've found the hole.
That's how I know I've found the hole. I found a home.
A walking hand and hand, and hand, and hand,
all along the sail,
a sheepard knew your name.
You knew your love was growing,
Lord, I think I knows it's flowing through you and me.
I'll tell me, darling, when I should leave you.
Oh, tell me, darling, now float away like honey in the sun.
Was it right or wronged you all thrown away like honey in the sun.
Was it right or wrong? I couldn't sing that song anyway.
Oh, for darling, now I'll remember how the sun shone down.
And how it warmed your free and smile when all the love was there.
When all the love was there.
But what I talk about, what I think about, everywhere I was there.
What I'll talk about, but what I think about, everywhere I go on. And sometimes, honey, in the morning.
But I miss you so.
I miss you so. I miss you so.
I miss you so.
I miss you so.
Mama, I miss you so. I miss you so. Mama, I miss you so. Mama, I miss you so.
I miss you so.
