The Ricky Gervais Show / An Idiot Abroad - Xfm S2E23 (January 25, 2003)

Episode Date: September 4, 2022

With the second series of ‘’The Office’’ complete, Gervais, Merchant, and Pilkington returned to XFM in August of 2002 to resume their 2-hour Saturday afternoon broadcasts. Though Pilkington...’s name was still not being used in promotional materials, the format mainly centered on his contributions with Gervais and Merchant mostly reacting to the various things Karl said and did, a format that would endure through the remainder of the radio broadcasts and podcasts, concluding in 2012.This was the longest stretch of XFM shows, running 51 weeks until August 2003 when Gervais and Merchant again went on hiatus, this time to record the Christmas Special (finale) for ‘’The Office’’.During the year, Pilkington introduced many of the show’s most notable segments including “ Monkey News”, “Rockbusters”, “Songs of Phrase”, and “The Film Thing”, among others. Karl grew increasingly frustrated with Ricky’s antagonism toward him throughout the year, and over the final few shows, suggested he did not want to continue on. Gervais and Merchant repeatedly said on air they would not return if Pilkington didn’t agree to remain with the show.

So he's just fed up with that. Rockbusters, we've got some great prizes. Well, have you seen them yet?
Starting point is 00:00:53 No. Be careful. They're not going to say for yourself? Hold on, it was a rollover wasn't it? Because you've really mucked up Rockbusters last time. What was he doing? Saying FP for the whole thing? No, FD you were saying and it was Frida Payne. Have you written the clues down this week? Because that seems like an obvious way to improve this. Yeah, I'll write I the clue. The clue. The clue. I the clue. I the clue. I the clue. I the clue. I'll write the clues. I'll write the clues. I'll write the clues. I'll write the clue. Well, so I'll give you a little taste at it but we were having a pizza in a pizza establishment. When was it? Wednesday or Thursday? And he was going, I'm a good organizer, I'm a good problem
Starting point is 00:01:39 solve but give me any scenario, right? Obviously he didn't say scenario. And I went okay then so you're the the manager of this place, and there's a couple, the elderly couple, they're about 60. They've had a lovely meal, he went, yeah, right? I went, but, but the gentleman, he's got a little bit of a heart condition, he takes a pill after his meal, he's only taken, he's only taken, their....... He's their. He's their. He's their. He's he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's only. Hea, he's only. Hea, he's only. Hea, he's only. He's only. He's only. He's only. He's only. He's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's. He's, he's. Hea, he's. Hea, he's. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He's only. He's only. He's only. He's only. He's, he's stuck in. Wedged in? Wedged in. It's gone and it's stopping him getting out from the table. So what would you do? He went, what? He stuck in because of his dick? I went, yeah, he went, right. He said, I'd use the situation.
Starting point is 00:02:12 I'd make cash. Said you're not going any way. to put in the toilets two two gay men were having sex and they got stuck in each other yeah yeah yeah he went right I'd say is at the same fella yeah as he's theyre theyra if so why was he letting again he was on the door I went to this nice dude he goes right his wife he went to go down yeah he went he went right he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he went he went he went he went he went he went he went he went he he the the the the the th th the th th the the the th the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the to to to to to to to to to to to the th is the th is th is th is th is th is th is the the the the the too took took took took took took toye toy toy toy took the is the the th and then he went, oh I'd say this isn't a restaurant problem called an ambulance. Strictly speaking, not a restaurant problem, no.
Starting point is 00:02:49 But I'm alright? Huh? Am I alright? Well, I don't know. Would you give me the job? If, say like, you were the boss of that restaurant and you... Do you know what I like about this? I'm to know, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, do, strictly, do, strictly, do, do, strictly, do, strictly, strictly, strictly, do, strictly, do, strictly, do, strictly, strictly, do, strictly, do, do, strictly, strictly, strictly, strictly, strictly, do, strictly, strictly, do, strictly, do, strictly, do, do, strictly, do, do, strictly, do, do, strictly, do, do, do, do, do, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. Yeah. Why would someone get stuck? Because they took by a girl mistake and two people would get stuck in each other. But you've heard the stories from his past.
Starting point is 00:03:09 That is a perfectly legitimate situation. I find yourself in, yeah. What would you do if there were two fellas with the big eds and webbed feet and they had a horse in a, well what would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would what would would what would would would would would what would would would would would what would what would would would would would what would you, what saw the kids with the big heads? Yeah, yeah. We should very quickly remind people if they didn't listen to that particular show, they were they had webbed hands, did they were webbed feet? Well they had webbed hands, right? And big heads? But it wasn't related. They weren't related? I know, they were completely separate. No, no, but I'm saying that the webbed hands isn't due to the fact, the fact, they's they's their they's they's they's their. they's they's they's their. They's they're they're their. They're they're they're they're their. They're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're wed, they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're? they're? they're? they're? they're? They. They. They're? They're? They're? They're? They're toed. They're toed. They're toed. toed. they're they're their their their wept. their they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're their the fact they've got a big head. It's two different things. We're just unlucky. No, hold on, if they weren't related and they both had webbed hands and big heads, I'm saying there was a condition that was related that had those two... I don't think it was. So what do you think the chances of that are? They're not related and he goes, oh you've got a big head and web hands as well. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, to, to, the, the, th, the, th, th, th, th, they's they're they're they're they're both, and they've they've thah, and they've they've they've they've they've they've they've they've they've they both they've they both they've they've they've they've they've both they've both they've both they've both they've both they've they've they've they've they've they've they've they, and they've they, and they, and they, and they've they've they've they've they've they've they've they've they've they've both they've both th, and tho, and tho, tho tho tho tho tho tho' both had both had both had both had both had both had both had both had both had both had both had tho, and they've both had they've was related. Right. Because I've seen, I've since seen the same problem again on another kid with a big head.
Starting point is 00:04:09 Zan's looked good. Right, so do you think the big head is just a separate issue? Yeah, it's a totally different illness. It's like having a headache and a cold at the same time. Right, so I'm not always connected. But the weird weird stuff on the internet. There was this woman who's got a big head. Oh yeah. And she was fed up with it because when she was walking down the street it was so big she couldn't hold it up. Right. She couldn't hold it out. She couldn't hold it up. Oh God. Oh God. So when she was walking, our eyes were hurting because she had to sort of look up all the time because her head was that heavy, a chin was sort sort was sort up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up up the the the the the the th up th up the th up th up th up th up th up th up their th up th up to to th up to th the up the up to to to to th up the up the up the up th. She was th. She was the up the up the up th. She was th. She was their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their th. She was the the the the. She was to the. She was to the. She was the. She was thea. She was thea. She was the up all the time because her head was that heavy a chin was sort of balanced on a chest. Right and she'd have to peek up yeah. So she does the doctors and this was after years and years and so you know I thought I could
Starting point is 00:04:55 put up with it but I can't. How big was her head? I don't know if it was like big because there wasn't a picture I don't know if it was just it was just it was just it was just it was big big big it was big big it was big it was big big it was big it was big big big it was big big it was like it was like it was like it was like a big big big big a big big a big big a big big a big a big I was like a big I was like a big a big I was like a big I was a big I was a big I was a big big I was a big I was a big I was a big I was a big I was a big. I was a big. I was a big. I was a big I was a big I was a big I was a big I was a big I was a big I was a big I was a big I was a big I was a big I was a big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big big I was a big big big big big big big I was a big big big big I was a big I was a big I was a big I was a big I was a big I was a big big big big big big big big big bigthere wasn't a picture I don't know if it was just big or a lot of bone so it was heavy. Right, like the elephant man just outcrops. So the doctor said yeah we can sort that out. But we'll have to take your head off. Right. Okay, keep going. Because I, again, what you don't seem to understand is I had the same reaction to you when I see it. You're quizzical yourself yourself yourself yourself yourself to it. to it. the the head to the the the to the the the the the the the to the th, th, th and, th and, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. that, that, the the that, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, a quizzical yourself? So I looked at it, they took her head off, chipped away a bit of the bone, made a red lighter, put it back on.
Starting point is 00:05:29 Ha ha ha ha ha. Right, play the Smith. He took a woman's head off. Yeah, this is asked by the Smiths. And if you'd like to ask Carl something, details coming up soon. How's that? How does that mean to be good? So, uh, what's the email, Carl? If people want to ask you something, a problem, they've got a problem to solve. It can be anything.
Starting point is 00:05:53 It could be a personal problem, it could be a scenario. So, uh, what's the email, Carl? If people want to ask you something a problem they've got a problem to solve it can be anything it could be a personal problem it could be a scenario it could be about it could be about war it can be anything but it could be I prefer stuff that I could so you can get your teeth into and and actually you know sort out what like war is too it's a bit big for me that one do you think do you think I don't want to get into that. What do you mean? If Tony Blair came to you and he went, Carl, listen I'm having a bit of trouble here.
Starting point is 00:06:33 I don't know what to do. I've tried everything, I've tried spin, I've tried being tough I've tried back and down, I've tried getting other countries involved, they they they they they they th th they th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th and th th th the the the the the the the the thrown to thrown to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to th.. try try th. What that's try try the. What try try try try try try try try try try try try try try to try to to to to to try to to to tried getting other countries involved, they don't want to know, what do I do? What do I do? I don't know. It's a tricky one. It is tricky one, yeah. I don't worry about it if it's going to happen, it's going to happen, isn't it? Do you to happen, isn't it? Do you ge in the bath, put a mattress on top? That's it. say you do, isn't it? If it kicks off? If there's a war on that, you get in the bath, put
Starting point is 00:07:05 a mattress on top. Right. Did they do that in the second world war for six years? Was that making bunk beds? That's just what I read somewhere. Yeah. Is the bath full of water? Uh, no, no, no. No. That'd be daft. I think they're an anamble bath then, I thin. I th. I'd th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. That's th. thi. thi. That's thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. the. the. the the the the the the thathe the the that that that that that that that that that th that that th th th their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their thi. Did the. Did the. the. the. the. the. theate. theate. the. theate. theate. the. theate. the. the. the. stop a bit of shrapnel. I think the plastic ones you get nowadays would probably melt on you. And the mattress where your dad has cut it in half, all the phone would come out and the springs would get you in the eye. Oh, talking about my dad. Steve you love this right? Your dad ate's being ripped off, right? Yes, well now I can relate to London now he always wants me to go and see them rather than come here because he just thinks London is like a big rip-off. Last time he came he got annoyed because I bought him a scone and a cup of tea for like three of us and it was 14 pounds and he just was livid and then we had an argument about that and then he went to the millennium wheel and I said do you fancy going on this he said oh all all all all all all all all all all all all all all the the the the the the the the the he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he was he he he he was he was he' he' heen. he's he he's he he's he he's he he's he he's he he's he he's he he's he he's he he's he he's he he's he he's he he's he he's he he's he he's he he's he he's he he's he he's he he's he he's he he's he he's he he's he he's he he's he he he he he he th th th than than than than than than than tmant tmant he th thou he he he he he he he he he he he he he he and then he saw the price and it was something like 20 quid or something and he said 20 quid to go up in the air to look at stuff that's on the ground. So I might as well stay on the ground. Brilliant. Right, thought good
Starting point is 00:08:10 point. His logic is impeccable. So anyway this is going on. Anyway he spoke to me the other day it said how are things are all right now he said are they said are being he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he said he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he th he he he he he th he said he got a new bed from because he cut the other one off, right? He got this bed out of a catalogue. So he sorted out a payment on the phone, he said look, you're ripping me off a bit here on the interest thing, but let's do a deal. We'll set out a new monthly payment. That's different to what it says in the catalog. And they said, yeah, we'll go along with that. Anyway, so he that, so he that, so he that, so he that, so he that, so he that's that, so he th. So he th. So he th. So he th. So he's th. So he's th. So he's th. So he's th. So he said, th. th. th. th. th. thi, thi, the, th. So, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, so tho, so tho, so tho, so tho, so th. So, so th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, he's th. So, he's the. So, he sorted the. So, he sorted the. So, he's the. So, he sorted the. So, he sorted the. So, he sorted the. So, he sorted out, the. So, the. So, so he sorted that out, he was happy, the bed arrived, it's a nice bed, he said, that's great. So anyway, he got the bill for it and it was the original price. Oh, I thought it might be the case, yeah. So he called up and said I'm not happy with this. He said we said we said a deal and like, oh no, don't know what you're talking about. He said, right? thi, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, don't, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the their. Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, the their. Oh, the the their. Oh, they. Oh, they. Oh, they. Oh, the the the the the the the the the the th. Oh, the the the the So anyway, a few weeks go by, post comes, only another catalog in the post. He's livid. Right, so he was well annoyed. So he looked on the back and it said on it, this catalog will always be property of, you know, the company that does it. So you can't throw it away. If we request to have it back, we've got the permission
Starting point is 00:09:27 to get it back off you. Right? So he thought, right, well, they're out of order. I told them not to send me one and they have done and they're saying I can't chuck it away. So he called them up and said, all right, Mr Pilkinton, I've told you, to. So he's the their, all, all, all, all, all, all, all, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their.e.e.e.a.a, too, too, tooomkk, tooomk, tooomk, their, tooomk, their, their, their, their, their, that, we've dealt with that. You've sent me a catalogue, I told you not to. It says on the back here that this will always be yours, yeah. So in a way you're using my house as a warehouse, I'll be charging you 26 pence or something, a day. Brilliant. He said you already owe me £6.28, something like that. And yeah, yeah, sorted it out. So again, but are they're they they they they they they they they they they they they th. thi thi they thi thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. that's that's that's that's, that. that. that. that. tho. tho. th. that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that. that. that. that. that. that. So, that. So, that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. So, th. the. So, the. So, the. the. the. So, the. the. So, the. So, the. So, the. So, the. So, the. So, it out. So again, you know, it's... So hang on, but are they going along with this? I don't know what happened. He said, they sounded annoyed and said they get back to him and they haven't, but he said, I'm not bothered, they can take as long as they want because the money just keeps going up. Yeah, yeah. What sort of profit is he's just leaving. It's like an investment. Yeah. It's like an antique he's for it. Yeah, it's just going up every day so. Well keep us posted on that. That's dynamite. One day we need to speak to your father. Yeah. So many questions need to be asked
Starting point is 00:10:33 of him. But I might say and give you a letter to take home. Yeah. Dear Mr. Mr. Carl. You're so Carl. You're a new single from Nick Cave I think I'm looking forward to it. That's the forthcoming single from Nick Cave from his album Nocturama that's called Bring It On. That's great. I must admit I was a latecomer to Nick Cave. I was a latecomer to Nick Cave. He's extraordinary. I mean years into his solo stuff before you know I decided that he was brilliant. He's fantastic. He's fantastic. I had some exciting news this week, Carl.
Starting point is 00:11:10 You'll be pleased to find out. I'm worried that you might get a little bit jealous because it's obviously going to impact on your world quite strongly. Because I know you think, you'd like things to be quite, you know, you'd like the fact that in the past you know we've had some cross words you know because you've I remember what did you think of me when I first walked in when I first came in on the first day of ex-phevah I don't know why you're making a big deal because do you want to bring it because do I'm just honest though I'm just honest about a lot of people who see you for the first he's a bit weird yeah well I he that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's not I that's not I that's not I that's not I that's not I that's not I that's that's that's that's that's that's that's not that's that's not that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's not I that's not I that's not I that's not I that's not I that's not I that's not I that's not I that's not not not not not not not not not not not not not not I the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the they the they they that's not not I that's not I that's not I But I'm sure that wasn't what he said before. No, he did. Yeah, well, he looked at you and I knew. I could see whether look at his face.
Starting point is 00:11:49 You know when you know your kid and your kid's sort of scared of someone? And they go, why don't you? Why do you thin? It was like that. When I saw Carl, I could see look at you. his face that he was disturbed and then as he said you get used to it don't you? Yeah you get used to it and you have changed a little bit your air is a bit smart and now and you got some nicer glasses and that I think or I might just got used to it.
Starting point is 00:12:14 Wow don't bring it up Steve don't look at me like that so you say that you think some other people in the office thought the same do you know thought the same. Do you know that for sure? Did you discuss it? Carl? Yeah, I think they do, yeah. Okay, leave it there then. But not just in the office, as you watch the beginning. Oh, it's worse than you ever thought. Well, no, it's not worse than I ever thought, because as you well know, Ricky DeMayes. Yeah. What did I do on Thursday morning? Uh, what did I do on, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, th. th. th. th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th thus, thus, thi, th th. But, thi. But, thi. thi. But, thi. But, thi. But, tho. But, not th. But, not th. But, not th. But, thi. But, not th. But, not th. th for those that perhaps are not of the female persuasion listening there's a magazine apparently it sells quite well it's one of the sort of female you know kind of issues magazines I think it's called company magazine you know it's like you sort of I guess it's a bit like your Moore or your vanity fair whatever anyway anyway they run every year the 50 the 50 the the 50s in the 50 most eligible who's in there this year in the 50, in the top 50 of the entire country?
Starting point is 00:13:06 And then they vote, they vote and they put him in order and see who's the most eligible bachelor. But that's 50 people, right? Most, I mean, it always annoys me slightly because bachelor, it kind of seems like a more sophisticated word for loser. Yeah, no, no. And also they try and do a different 50 every year. So they're always always always always always always they're always they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their. It's their. It's their. It's they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're their. their. they're their. they're their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. th. th. th. to. toooo. their to. their their their vote. their their vote. their their their the and do a different 50 every year, so they're getting pretty desperate to get different ones. No, no, no, no. Because also a lot of people who are sort of like successful are married, so there's very little to... No, no, no, no, no. No, no, no.
Starting point is 00:13:36 No, no, no. No, no. I don't know if this is what's exciting right, although I'm slightly frustrated because they were telling me that last year, all right, they get, because what happens is the readers of the magazine, they vote for who they think is number one, most eligible bachelor, right? Last year the prize was a two-week trip in the Bahamas, okay? This year I'm rather th. th. thiiiiiiii. their. th. th. That's th. th. Trie. Thea. Thea. Thea. Thea, th. Theu. Theu. Theu. The prize. Whoa, whoa, whoa, oh, backtrack. Sorry? Last year was a two-week
Starting point is 00:14:14 trip to Bahamas and this year. Just a mope, I'm on all you're going to win is a moa all you're going to the the the to get the to get the to get th. All th. Steve Merchant, Carl Pilkington. I come up with a new strand for Carl as well. He likes, he's always got, you know we've done, I don't think there's a week gone where we haven't mentioned an airy kid. A hairy child. Yeah, and some related to a monkey in that. And I thought you could do a regular thing thing thing thing thing thing thing thing thing thing thing thi thing thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi, we thi, we thi, we've thi, we've thi, we've thi, you're th, you're thin, you're thin, you're th, you're th, you're tho, you're tho, you're tho, you're tho, you're tho, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. thi, thi, thi, some related to a monkey in that. I thought
Starting point is 00:15:25 you could do a regular thing, we've got to come up with a story about an ape or a monkey. And it's called Chimpanzee That. Of course. Of course. I have got one, but I can't remember it at a moment. So I'll just have to think it all. Well listen, why are you're a thing about that, why are you're thinking. Well, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why, why are thi?? We're taking emails today if you've got a problem of concern or you know just a general query that you think Carl could answer for you. It could be about anything, it could be about some of the big kind of philosophical questions. It could be something to do with war or famine, anything like that, or it could just be a personal dilemma, you know something that's happening locally. And this is a thi, you, you, you, you, you, thi, you, thi, you, you, thi, you, you, you, you, thi, you, thi, you, you, thi, you, you thi, you thi, you're just just just just just, you're just just, thi, thi, tho, thi, thi, thi, tho, tho, tho, that, that, that, that, or just just just just just just just just just just just just, or just just just, or just just just just, or just just just just just, or just just, or just just just just, or just just, or just just just, that, that, that, th. th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. sort of dilemma in the past. And I'm interested in know what you take is on it. Let me see, this is from Lee Matthews by the look of it. He says, he lives in a suburban area where the local teenagers also live on the same
Starting point is 00:16:12 road and they're running riot. They're smashing the the kidars parents of the kids don't seem to give a damn. Anyone who complains to them, they just say, I'll piss off. You know, the police are useless because they never catch him in the actual act of violence, which is what they got to do to apparently convict them. So they don't know what you're doing. It's like when a little lady got to be 18. You know. You. You. It's, you. It's, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you, you, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you're, you're, you're, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you. And, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, you're, you're, you know, you're, you're, Colonel Decker didn't have a clue. You see it's weird because now it has got out of hand. Like years ago when I was growing up on the estate. Yeah you had problems but not like you have now. Do you know what I mean? You know, some of a nice result, aren't they?
Starting point is 00:16:57 Well, it did seem that way, didn't it? Yeah, right? But you yourself kind of admitted in the past that you were something of a tear away. You didn't do anything like these kids here. I mean, the thing is, I was scared that if I got caught doing it, my dad would go mad. Yes. And I remember smashing a car window by accident and I legged it in the lounge and sort of pretending to be unconscious when his dad came home. And there was a knock on the door and I thought, oh God, this is a fellow he saw me. I was chucking a stone in the air, seeing how I could throw it. Did he keep landing on your head? That would explain a lot.
Starting point is 00:17:32 That would explain a lot. And it came down. And, uh,'t bothering anyone. Did you invent that game? Did you get the stone for your birthday? Go and play with your stone. He gave one to Suzanne. Carl, go and play with your stone. Yeah. The thing is right, and it came down at a funny angle.
Starting point is 00:17:55 And it ate the back of this car and the back window is the thing in. the thing is the throsting, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, the back, the back, the back, the back, the back, the back, the back, the back, the back, the back, the back, the back, the back, the back, the back, the back, the back, the back, the back, the back, the back, the back, the back, the back window, the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. And I sort of went, oh, as if I'd been asleep. I went to the door like rubbing the eyes and the fellow said, what did you run off for? I saw you. I was like, oh no. And I didn't see my dad. It was when he was working sort of evenings. So I went out so I didn't have to see my dad to see dad to see dad to see dad to see to see to see dad to see dad to see to see dad to see dad to see dad to see dad to see dad to see to see dad to see to see to see to see to see to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to their. their. to the their. And then you fell asleep when he went wake up wake up wake up you know what I said
Starting point is 00:18:53 no 45 quid Carl no the thing he didn't have to do anything. 45 pounds car now I know you were saving up for a brick but you can't have it yeah but do you know what I what I mean? It's like I knew I did wrong. And I was scared that my dad was going to belt me. Yeah. Yeah. So I was like, oh, you know, I'll be more careful next time. But that was clearly good parenting on the part of your father because these young tykes clearly they don't have the father's support. I don't even, I don't even I don't know. If you. If I don't even. I don't even. I don't even. I don't know. If you. If you. If you. If you. If you. If you. If you. If you. If you. If you. If you. If you. If you. If you were. If you were. But, but, about I don't know five so I'm Mark
Starting point is 00:20:25 was like I don't know probably 18 17 16 17 17 18 some so my mom and dad go out and our mark says to me right here's a deal do your little deal I'm gonna have a load of women round what? Yeah, but his brother didn't have the rocks that Carlite. So, hang on, hang on.
Starting point is 00:20:54 What kind of a man was he? He brought a bunch of women, right? So, yeah, there was loads, bothered, do you know what I mean? As long as I've got my tractor, I'm happy. So I was, I was, I was, he actually hasn't changed a bit. But how many women did he have? Was it just him and like a bunch of women? Yeah. Was it like, what's his name? What's his name? Charing Breaks, Summer Rain, Clothes Rockets, on XFM, 104. Rickerts, Carl Pilking, Tom. Rockbusters? Is it that time? It is indeed. Last week, of course it was a disaster.

I have to say that I've not really gone through them but the prizes look exactly the same as they were last week. There's that t-shirt. So it's a roll over but you haven't added to it. Which member of the cast is that? Is that Cheeky Dell? I don't know. Best Chillout album ever, the best guitar volume 2. And of course for all our fans, Doctor Who, the Aztecs, that's on DVD and that's
Starting point is 00:23:38 one of the William Hartnells Doctor Who. All right. That's the worst impression I've ever heard. That's the worst impression I've ever heard. Ah, come on. Right, uh, three, three, uh, cryptic stuff. Oh, come on. Right, Rod Niaz, you are three, I can't do it. No, come on. Right, three, uh, three, uh, three, uh, three, uh, three, uh, uh, come on. Right. Ron, New York. Yeah, real. Three, I can't do it.
Starting point is 00:24:07 No, come on. Right, three, three, uh, cryptic, um, clues. Some of which may be wrong. Yeah. And, uh, don't take the letters, literally. Yeah. Right, go on. And some initials, and it makes up a band. So, um, here we go then. There's three of them you email in Ricky.Jvase
Starting point is 00:24:26 at XFM.co. UK. Here we go then. Number one. The weather stinks, done it? The weather stinks done it? Yeah. That's R. That's R. Right. The weather stinks done it? Yeah. Second one. Look, Grant. Just get on the boat and help us out. All right, give us that again? Look, Gran, just get on the boat and help us out. What's the initial? R again. R again? Interesting. And then the third one, if you're going to do that with your drink, I'd let it settle for a bit before you open it.
Starting point is 00:25:03 CK. C.K. All right. What's more? So quickly all the way through then. Number one, the weather stinks, don't it? That's R. Look, Grant, just get on the boat and help us out, will you? That's R as well.
Starting point is 00:25:16 And then the last one, if you're going to do that to your drink, I'd let's let let's let's the weather, I' the weather, I'd let's the weather, I'd thlettheat, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I'd th, I, I'd th, th, th, number, th, number, number, number, number, number, number, number, number, then, number, number, number, number, number, number, number, number, number, number, number, number, number, number, number, number, number, number, number, number, number, number, number, number, number, number, number, number, number, number, number, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I'd th. CK. Ricky dot Javais at XFM.co. UK. Brilliant. Let's have a bit of vinyl. Let's have a classic. Let's have a classic from the merchant collection. That's going to be the new single from Eminem. Sing for the moment. I like that. It's not bad here. NXFM. 104. Vickety, Steve Merchant. Carl. Carl.
Starting point is 00:25:51 All right. What, what's the matter? Huh? Just, um, you know what's the matter? I'm sort of an independent adjudicator and I couldn't help but notice that you both went out to make the tea's but only one of you came back with a wig made out of that poppy stuff that you pack. Bubble rat. And he didn't want me to do it with cellotapes so I kind of did it with elastic bands
Starting point is 00:26:16 that I found. Apparently it hurt his ear, it's cut into his head and look at it, look at him, he's annoyed. I don't know. There's not many times I've ever done, you know, any form of work really, where halfway through it, you know, let's say a two-hour live radio show, one of the people has said to the other, can I make out of this big cardboard box a bishop's hat for you? Well I did that. I started fashioning that was cutting into his ear or something, I don't know, making excuses. Oh, Carl, you are here for rickage of ages amusement. I think if you check the small print of your contract. Have you got anything interesting about a monkey or an ape so we can do chimpanzee that? I know something that a lot of other people will know, but I'll... Well let's do it then. Chimpan's... what's it called again? Where should we do a jingle? Well do a little jingle for us then. Oh chimpan see that! Brilliant! That's great.
Starting point is 00:27:12 So I look for that every week. Yeah. And what's the interesting chimp fact? Right, it's about this monkey ages ago. Of course. Don't know where it happened. 17th century? I think it was a chimp. Right. It's a the the the the the the the the the the th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's a th. It's a th. It's a th. It's a th. It's a th. It's a th. It's a th. A thin thin thin thth century? I think it was a chimp. Right. Got caught having a fag. Do you know it? What do you mean do I know it? Oh, narrow it down? Those are chimps are caught with woodbines. Right. He got caught having a fag. So it was sent to court and uh... Was it underage? It was, it was a... And it got someone to go into the news agent forum. Did he got a got a got a the the th. Right. Right. Right. th. It got it got it got it got it got it got a to get a to get it got to get it was a to get it was a to get it was was. It got someone to go into the news agent forum. Did he get a bigger gorilla to go into the newsag and get in 20 Rothmans? It ended up doing time because it was. Go back a minute. Wait a minute. Well, well, well. No, I don't know the fuck. That's that's as much as you know, that, quite literally. That is as much as you know, right. that is the the that. the that. That. That. That. That is as the that. That is as the the the the the to. Starting point is 00:28:05 Where you're... In a built-up area? What are you talking about? It's against the law for a monkey to have a fag. What if it got it himself? Even if it just... what about it? If it earned it himself, just like moving tires around or mucking out know the full story. You don't know the full story do you? Do you think... You never do you? Because I presume it was a monkey from a zoo, right?
Starting point is 00:28:27 Yeah. Do you think it'd be fed up? No. Because in a way, it's home from home, isn't it? When I read it, I didn't think it was that bad because they just thought well. They don't put the monkey in a prison. They're overcrowdedded. They're overcrow. They're overcrow. They're overcrow. They're overcrow. They're overcrow. They're overcrowed. They're overcrowed. They're overcrowed. They're overcrowed. They're overcrowed. They're overcrowed. They're overcrowed. They're over. They're over. They're over. They're over. They're they're they're they're over. They're th. They're th. They're to throw. to to tho. to tho. the tho to to the the the they. Trapper Harris was furious because the monkey got the top bunk. Yeah. Can I just uh... Okay then, oh, chimpanzee that! Another one next week? I don't think so.
Starting point is 00:28:54 Rockbusters, right? Can I just recap. Yeah, because actually I have to say, no, right. I think the prizes are so pitiful they can't be asked. Let me just explain it again just in case they don't understand it. It's a cryptic clue, right? And it makes up a band and the initial that I did, it's the initial, atomic curtain, that explains it.
Starting point is 00:29:26 So very quickly, number one. No, last week we did F P, that you gave out the clue, F D, Frieda Payne. Yeah, it was an error. So, um, the first...they're all right this week, though, are they? Yeah, the weather stinks. That's the cryptic clue and the letter is R. Number two. That's the rainy smell boys. Right. Look, Gran, just get on the boat and help us out, will you? That's R. as well. And the last one, if you're going to do that to your drink, I'd let it settle for a bit before you open it. That's CK. Ricky. That's, that's, if, if, if, if, if you, if you, if you, if you, if you, if you, if you, if you, if you, if you, if you, if you, if you, if you, if you, if you, if you're, if you're, if you're, if you're, if you're, if you're, if you're, if you're, if you're that, that, if you're, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that's, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, the the the the the the the the the the the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, the that. th. the the the the th. That's KK. Ricky.Jovais at XFM.co. UK. Plus keep your problems and queries coming in for Carl. We've got another one as well, which I'd like to give
Starting point is 00:30:09 you after the next track, Carl, if I make. All right? You've got a problem, haven't you? What with? Oh yeah. Let's play a record. Let's come back with this. It's an god-awful small affair. Wow. You're getting celebrities asking your questions now, Carl. That's David Bowie. Is there life on Mars? Do you reckon? I reckon there's more going on than just us. Messing about. I reckon.
Starting point is 00:30:44 I hope so. Tell Steve your problem that you were you aired to me. Well, um, do you know how I'm always thinking about stuff when I'm washing up? Mmm. I'm just going to look at Steve for the reaction when this question comes out. Okay. There's been a few things I've been thinking about. Do you know like how I try to confuse a computer by putting in why in the search engine. Yeah. So along this lines of that I was thinking in the week if you put a chameleon on a mirror what would happen? And also this is a bit of a bigger issue.
Starting point is 00:31:16 We're always making more and more stuff, right? In the world, you know, big buildings, big planes, big boats and that. Will we ever get to a point where all this is too heavy for the world to to to the world to the world to the world to the world to the world the world to the world the world th for the world, you know, big buildings, big planes, big boats and that. Will we ever get to a point where all this is too heavy for the world to handle? Right, what error has he made there, Steve? What physical, scientific error as he made there with that question? I can't begin to explain it. Carl, we're not getting the rocks from other planets, it's already here. It's like having a big pile of books in a room room the th world th world th world th world th world thum in th world th world, th world, th world, th world, th world, where, where, th, where, where, where, th, where, where, where, thi, where, where, where, where, where, thi, where, where, where, where, thi, thi, thi, all thi, where thi, where, where, all thi, all thi, all th is all th is all th is th is th is th is th is th is th is, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, where, all th is th is th is th is th is th is th is, th is th is th is th is th is thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, all thi, all thi, all thi, all thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii' thiii' thi thi thi other planets, it's already here. It's like having a big pile of books in a room and then moving them over to the other side of the room and build a thing going,
Starting point is 00:31:52 oh can the room take it? I'm building a lot of things out of these books. What about plastic? Where does that come from? Other chemicals that existed on the planet? Yeah. Do you see the point? Hang on a minute though. What about a little tree? You plan that's an acorn. It grows, Rick.
Starting point is 00:32:09 That's bigger, that's more stuff. Don't listen to him, Carl. He's patronizing you. What about acorn's on that, though? Right. They take, they grow from mineralstiny kitten, but it grows up and it's bigger. Carl is doing it on purpose. Elephants, they're very small to begin with, but they get bigger and bigger and bigger, and so they get heavier and heavier. Mind you, dinosaurs have gone. You know, but you know, but you know that's, you know famously that's how Atlantis. You know famously that's famously that's famously, you know famously, you that, you that, you that, you that, you that, you th famously, you th famously, you th famously, you th famously, you th famously, you th famously, you th famously, you know, you know, you know, you know, tham, tham, tham, tho, thom, thom, tho, thus, thus, thus, thus, thus, thus, thus, th, thus, they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're that, that, they're that, that, thea' thea' thea' the legend of Atlantis? I think so. This was a city that existed, it's proven,
Starting point is 00:32:48 right? And what other was they just kept buying stuff in mail order. They just kept ordering stuff, mail order. They just kept ordering stuff, like the king and stuff, just kept ordering stuff, the mail-itrear. He just brought up all the mirror that the wise men didn't want. Yeah he just because he's from like olden times and he just just ke buying stuff crazy like he was just a shopaholic basically. Mental it was and he was ludicrous it was like and in the end it just sunk it just sunk too heavy and it just sunk so. So um to the earth the more the trees the the more the the the the the the the tree tree tree tree tree tree tree the the more tree the more trees we the more the more the more the more the more the more the more the more the more the more the more the more the more the more the more trees we the the their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their tree. tree. tree. tree. tree. tree. trees we trees we trees we trees we trees we trees we trees we trees we trees we trees we trees we trees we trees we trees we trees trees they. th. th. th. th. th. their th. th. th. th, what about all the people that are overeating? There's only, yeah, there's a one thing to do. You're a one thing to do in this world. I think we've got, I think we've got a kill-off endangered species and burn trees. That's the only way the earth can survive. You're mental. Right, what are you doing? Right. Okay, look, quick come query for you He says, my parents won't let me ditch my studies. He's currently reading modern languages at London University. He wants to follow his dream, but his parents won't let him of being a dancer,
Starting point is 00:33:49 Carl. Worse than that, he says that they're trying to arrange a marriage marriage to people they know from good families. He doesn't want to do, he's got the arranged marriage marriage coming along, and he's also got, he basically wants to be a dancer. his parents are forcing him into something more practical. Well the first thing, right? I don't think the arranged marriage thing is such a bad idea. Okay. Because I think too many people go on looks, right? And then you soon get bored of that, and you find out the person who you're knocking about with, it's actually not your type. Right. Why don't you arrange marriages for people?
Starting point is 00:34:19 Well, I'm just saying right so I'd say Jay go along with that I wouldn't worry about it Okay if they're really ugly then you know don't go along with it but if they're half bad Yeah put up with it sure the dancing brilliant right that's that solved brilliant I wanted to be a dancer After I did the boxing right I joined a dancing thing just near my United's right called Twiggy's uh dancing thing just near my United's ground right called Twiggy's. I went along I wanted to learn some moves. How old were you? Well it was when Michael Jackson was like pretty big so about 80... 83, 84, 85s and like that around
Starting point is 00:34:56 there. Wanted to do it. When I went it was shut and I'd become like a warehouse for a toilet rolls. So in a way, I wonder what would have happened. Sorry, how is that an anecdote about you going through dancing? You told me before, you did boxing for a while, you had two fighting the boxing, you didn't even get in the... that's not an... Imagine if that was a film! This is a boy's dream to become a dancer. Oh it's shut.
Starting point is 00:35:29 Next on... I mean, you... Oh, it's not a story! Yeah, that was... Yeah, brilliant. Footloose, all right? I'm fed up, they banned it, oh, it's a thu. Flash dance.
Starting point is 00:35:43 First, there there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there, there was there was there was there was there was there was there was there was there was there was, there was First there was, ah it's a warehouse, never mind, you know, you'll find something else. I can't, I think I got a go cart after that. I bought a motorised go cart and kept myself busy with that. So there's always other songs. Just thing Alan Bennett has to sit down and really sweat over his stories. He just opens his mouth. You are a living Alan Bennett character. So that's that solved, well Jay, don't worry about that. There's no emotional problems I can foresee. If you follow that advice. So the advice there is doing arrange marriage. If she's not minning. She's not completely minging. And don't worry about dancing, get a go-carp. Cheers. Great, keep A, Steve Merchant, Carl Pilkington. While I was
Starting point is 00:36:46 with Carl in that restaurant, I was giving him the problems that the old fellow with Viagra and the two fellows making love in the cubicle, we go out with a new idea, because he's dumping, do we need him, as I say, because he thinks the sciences have got together, they're never going to wipe out a limpite or a or or a their or a their their their their their their their their their their their their their their, or their, or their, or their, or their, or tha, or thia, or tha, or tha, or throwne.a, or thrueolk. thrucantrampe. While, thiolk. While, thiolk. I'er. I'er. I'er. I'er, thia, thiioliolioliolioli, thiioliolioliioliiole, thiiiole, thiole, thi.a, thi.a, thi.a, thi. I, thi. I, thi. I'a, thi As I say, he thinks the sciences have got together, they're never gonna rope out a limpet or a slug. They think they're good, but they're not that good. This is, the people that are lauded as great minds, and Carl has brought them down. He's taking issue with them.
Starting point is 00:37:18 Like what? He went, great thinkers. And I went, he, the, thak, thak, he, he, thak, thak, he, he, thak, thak, think, he, thi. thi. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, th. He's, th. He's, th. He's, th. He. He. He. He. He. He, th. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He. He's, thi. He's, thi. He's, thi. He's, is. He's, is. He's, is. He's, is. He's, is. He's, is. He's, tog. He's, thi. He's, thi. He's is. He's, tho. He's, thi. I went okay then um it's Isaac Newton the father of modern physics he went is he the fellow with the apple I went yeah he went there again see why do I need to know that the earth sucks us towards it gravity he said if I was floating around it would be a problem I'd ask his opinion I went what about Einstein he went again I've never needed and this what he, I've never needed, and this is what he said, I've never needed MC squared in my life, the fellow who invented the video, I'll watch one a day. You know what I mean though? Give credit where credit is due. And I think that a lot of
Starting point is 00:37:58 this stuff that was invented, like when we were talking about inventions, you know, started to look in books and that, finding stuff out. And there was their, I I I I their, I th. th. I th. I th. I th. I th. th. th. I th. I th. th. th. I th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the' the, I've the' the' the' the' the'er, I've the'er, I've the, I've the, I've the, I've the, I've the, I've th. I'er, I'er, I'er, I'er, I'er, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's th. I's th. I's th. I've the. I'm the. I'm the. I'm theer, I'm theer, thean. I'm thean, thean, thean, thean, thean. theeeeeeeeeeeee. And, I started to look in books and that, finding stuff out. And there was some fellow who got a mention on an invention site just because he came up with a fishbowl. And it's like, is it that hard? Do you know what I mean? It's clearly about... Sorry, you're not putting him in the same category as Newton and Einstein, he was on the list. Einstein was on there, Newton and Newton with the theeee. the? the, the, the, the, the, the, thin, th, th, th, th, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, the the, the, the, the, tho, thin, thin, the, tho, tho, tho, tho-a, tho-a, tho-a, tho-a, tho-a, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, th. He, thin, th, th, th, th, thin, thin, th, th, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, the, theeean, thean, thean, thean, thean, thean, thean, thean, thean, thin, thin,. Einstein was on there, it was saying about him doing that, a Newton with the Apple, and who else was in there, Da Vinci, whatever, he was on there. Yeah? Is he the one who did Nanolisa as well? Yeah. He said, he said it took in 12 years to paint the lips. I don't think that's like that good. It takes that long. I saw, you know, when you think, when, when, when, when, saw, saw, saw, saw, saw, saw, saw, saw, saw Tony, saw, saw Tony, saw Tony th th th th th th th good, that it takes that long. I saw, you know, when you think, saw Tony Art do like an Aborigian man with an elephant in the background took about three minutes. Averidian? Really? And a he avalant. So what about some of the big names? Just, what's your first reaction when I say some big names from history? Go on. Gandy. Again, what did he do? Good point, right? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? What? Is? What? What? Is? Is? What? Is, the. What? Is, the. What? Is, the. What? Uh, again, what did he do?
Starting point is 00:39:05 Good point. Good point. Good point. Good point. But yeah, all right. Do you understand what he represents? Well, go on, tell me and I'll tell you if he deserves to be mentioned. His whole kind of attitude towards peaceful you know and protest you know Steve Steve Steve right
Starting point is 00:39:29 look at the glaze look on his face did I lose them on Gandhi yeah yeah so just it's not someone else do something else okay okay well something you know about this obviously oh let's think a great a great thinker isn't part Kingdon Bunao Right, yeah he's all right. Brilliant, thanks. What about... What about Jesus Christ? Well I'm thinking more your modern day like your Richard Branson's and that.
Starting point is 00:39:52 To be fair, I wouldn't put Branson up there with Gandy. Christ Newton and buying there. Stephen Orking. Because he's mainly known for having a beard and a funny jumper. You have to start including... That's no elements, yeah, you're getting confused there. But Branson's a businessman, he's not one of the great, you know, scientific minds. But I think in time, right? In time, right, in time, we would have worked out.
Starting point is 00:40:13 Whereas Clivedler in his little car on his way at the work, brilliant. Right. Whoever was sat there would have gone, that's a bit odd. Do you know what I mean? It's just that they were there first. But to be fair, Christ instigated 2,000 years of religion based on his teachings. Richard Branson, to be fair, he did launch Michael Field's tubular bells. They're not quite comparable. It just, it depends what you get impressed by, don't it? Susan's always saying. Maybe Newton was there's th. thiiiiiii. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. thi. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to be to be to be to be to be to be to be, to be, to be to be to th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thr. thr. thr. thrue, thrue, thrue. thrue. Starting point is 00:41:09 good point good point how did you ever move out of your street in Manchester but hang on no sorry I'm't think I did answer it. I just said, you know, the odd, the odd thing. He just said, I'm asleep. Little things, little things like, I ran home the other night and said, oh, I've just learned something today. She goes, go on. And, you know Lego bricks? Oh yeah. Starting point is 00:41:45 said, let go of them and come and have your dinner. Play record. It's got to be rubbish. It's got to be rubbish. It's got to be rubbish, isn't it? Wait, wait, the Scandinavian for a start. So, the Scandinavian. Let's go.
Starting point is 00:41:56 Let's go. Boys are back in town. Thin Lizzy, what a classic. Beautiful. Carl, should that be our anthem, you and Steve, eh? Hey? Ehh, yeah? Can I just get a couple bits of admin out of the way? Go ahead.
Starting point is 00:42:15 We have an email from Peter Goff. He has said, where is Richard Anderson? Where is Dickers? Where is Dickley? Where's Dickie Anders is not emailed and if you don't listen normally, Anders is our biggest fan. He loves us. He loves us. I just absolutely thinks the world of... But he's normally got a little bit of constructive criticism. Oh well, I'm not... Yeah, yeah, we're open to that. Sure. Sure. Sure. Oh, for you. I'm going to sell this up your... So if Dickie. So, to you. So, I. So, I. I. I dear Ricky, I've developed a bit of a fetish for the way you say Winnersh in your hit sitcom the office.
Starting point is 00:42:50 I'm going to get my fiancé to say it but he hasn't quite mattered yet. Anyway, we're getting married in Las Vegas in a couple of weeks' time. Could you please say Winners' the winnish? popular requests at weddings now to me saying Wynersh. So Wynash. There's a few I didn't get in. Fatham. Shinfield. So there's a woodly. There you are. There's beautiful. That's keeping them happy. Good luck to them. That's a Leopard. I saw one of those stupid email names. If you're going to email us, let's mention your name, because otherwise it makes me sound like a fool. A Leopard, the original name for a giraffe. Interesting, thanks for that.
Starting point is 00:43:30 Whereas Lego was, when a mother had sent someone to get some, though there's no name for them, she went, can you go and get some? There was a gap. He went, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, I I I I'm, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, the. the, I. the. the. the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the with her. And then she went, look, give me those. He went, no, she went, Lego, you idiot. Yeah, the actual explanation, various people have emailed us in or phoned in now. The company was set up in 1934, it's a Danish company obviously. Yeah. Lego comes from the Danish words, Leggot, which means play well. And it was later discovered that it was also that it was that it was later, various, various, that it was later, that was later, that was later, that was later, that was later, that was later, the it was also a Latin phrase that meant I study or I put together. That's the actual that...
Starting point is 00:44:05 Where did you get that from? Well the thing is, you see, that's where learning's got to be interesting because if it even started like that I'd just go, I'm not interested and I'll be looking for... Oh, so if a fact may be true but it's just not good enough. Newton would have said apples are attracted to our heads, be careful, they attack you, that would have been interesting. Total bollocks, but you'd have been interested therefore in all modern physics. All right? Here's another dilemma for you, a quick one from Kate, she says she's a single woman, she's six at tall. Recently she's found herself being approached by men of, let's
Starting point is 00:44:42 say restricted height, and she's's not desperate but is it ever acceptable in her she wants to know now is it ever acceptable for a taller lady to go out with a person of restricted growth what do you think about that if you see that on the street do you think it looks bizarre do you think it looks odd or six foot woman with um someone of a dwarfish persuasion you can't say we can't say sort of that or the midget word but I mean a little a little a little one a little fella yeah is that that so there's a noticeable difference in their height is that ever a problem she's she's six feet he's three foot four yeah if I saw it I just think she's doing it okay okay let's not do this now no no no come she's doing it what
Starting point is 00:45:22 no for attention in a way. See, I told you, Steve? Yeah, I know, but I'm just, I mean, is that serious? I think so? I think so? Well, I mean, if it makes her happy. Please don't ask Carl, do you know what I mean? If it makes her happy, then throwne to have a normal life. Oh God! No but you're not because they're going to get sticks. I'm so sorry. Carl does not necessarily reflect the opinions of the managent. Oh, the man. Hold on. This woman, she doesn't live in a forest in a little cottage dashes. She hasn't got long black hair and wears a mine. Really?the guy she's going out with is a miner. Really? Really?
Starting point is 00:46:06 Yeah, and he just sings all day on his way. Has he got six mates? Apparently so. Damn. Okay, wasn't it that, Carl? I'm still sorry, I wasn't that, I'm just thinking about. Someone just called up and called him dopey. What's the matter with you today? I'm just saying. What are you fed up with people taking issue with some of the stupid things you say? Lego was invented by a mother going Lego
Starting point is 00:46:30 of that. What are we going to do with all the buildings? The earth might collapse? What do you expect people to say? Even our listeners know you're talking rubbish and some of those aren't allowed to wear socks. I mean... Listen, right? Last week when I did, do we need them? Um, do you know when I called up, um, one of the museums, then a science museum? Yeah, he's talking to me? Yeah, I'm just saying, I wanted to tell you before when the song was on, but you're so busy listening to it. Yeah, playing? Yeah, but we're doing a radio show. Alright, what's your point?
Starting point is 00:47:06 Well, I just wanted to say she emailed him to say I got a name wrong, so I'm just apologising for that. What did you just call her? I think I called the Jessica. What is her name? I don't know. I've got an apology. Well, I said, this is not. the. the. the. the. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. the. the. the. the. the the to. the the to. the to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to apology? Well I remember I read the email so yeah I'm apologizing to? I'm your name's Jackie I think. Oh you've got it wrong again haven't you? Well well anyway and she just said if you know if you
Starting point is 00:47:34 want to see dinosaurs and that go to the museum you're complaining about that as well you went to a museum and there was too many dinosaurs you just need four? no well Steve have you been to the one the one the one the one the one the one the one the one the one the one the one the one the one the one the one the one the one the one the one the one the one the one the one the one the one the one the one the one the one the one the the the the the the the they. th. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I to to to to to to the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. I was. I'm. I'm. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. I'm. the. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I museum and there was too many dinosaurs you just said he said you just need four? No well Steve have you been to the one in Knightsbridge I think so, this one that I called up right it's nice you go in you get a good collection of stuff you walk in there's three or four dinosaurs you've had enough right go to I went into New York right went to the museum there hundreds of them you can't they can't move the the the their their their their their their their their their their their their their their they their they they their they they their they their their their their they they they they they they they they're their their they're they're they're they're to to to to thoes thoes thoes thoes thoes thoes th. th. th. th. th. to to to to to to to their their to their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their the the the the the thean their their their their their their thean. I's almost like they're responsible for them being extinct. There's loads of them. So all I'm saying is, if you want to see a dinosaur, go to the one near Knightsbridge, they've got a nice selection, some old vases and stuff, it's worth going. So... Do you work for them? Because that was a pretty big cell. That's not...
Starting point is 00:48:22 You could work that up,to quite an advert I imagine. Brilliant. Carl, you're fed up, aren't you? Because you had to get up early. Well that's another thing, but let's, will we give out the answers for... Let's do that after we've played the next tune. I have to say that I'm wondering if rockbusters like do we need them, is beginning to run its course because this week we've had very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very their...... I. their. their. their. their. their. their, I've their, I've th. to, I've to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, too, to, to, to, to, to, too, tooomffe. tooompern. tooomper. to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to to, to to to to the. toe. the. the. toe. toe. toe. too. their, their, too. too. too. too. too. too. too. toe. toe. toe. toe. toe. to run its course because this week we've had very very few right answers. I think you're just getting too complicated. Yeah because this clues and his answers are rubbish. Why don't you start doing proper ones? These are good we started off easy if you remember. I think some of them they don't work. I'll come up with some stuff then. Well I have. And we'll come back with the rockbuster's answers in a second. You haven't come up with anything. Ha ha ha ha ha ha. The Grave Diggers. 1,800 suicide. It's a good tune that.
Starting point is 00:49:11 I've always enjoyed it. XFN, 104.9. Well, that's nearly it from Ricketivay's. That's me. Steve Matchin. One of the 50 most eligible bachelor's in Britain. I hope people as well if you buy company magazine if there's any ladies listening. Every week of course I've played you a song for the ladies and I hope now that you'll be able to return the favor and maybe vote for me, buy company magazine, vote for me so I become 50, the the number one
Starting point is 00:49:32 says that the number one of those. That shows you that wouldn't mean anything then. What would it mean anything then would mean if they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they the. If the. If tho tho tho tho the. that tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th th th th th the the the the the the the the the the the the the. the. the. to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to their their thoooo. tho. What are you talking about? Because it means that they care for me enough and they are impressed and charmed by enough that they've actually made that effort. That's beautiful. I think that would ruin it. Well you know, let's wait and see what the results are. Do you think, do you know, I mean, just, you know, I'm getting off that, you're that, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, because, you, because in the top 48. That's bound to be a couple of people. But what I think of him now, Carl? Now you've known him for these many years. I mean what do you think of his look subjectively now that you've known him? Can you remember what you first
Starting point is 00:50:15 thought? Like I say, he's changed a bit, he's sorted himself out a... just like if you just let your air grow and do its own things. Whereas now it's got a style. So it looks good. Glasses, he's changed. Some people like tall men. Yeah, go on. Right, first one. The weather stinks, don't it? Yeah. That was R, which was rainbow. Rainbow? Like, rain is the weather and it smells like bow. Bo? Bo? Body odor. So it's BO. It's B-O. That's B-O. That's B-O. It's B-O and that's B-O. It's British B-O.
Starting point is 00:51:07 Well, yeah, but you've got a play... It's not pronounced Bo and it's not spout, though. Who calls it Bo? Everyone knows it's B-O? What? What? ? It's,
Starting point is 00:51:18 ... . One person got it, Carl. One person got it. Of all the emails, one person got it. Second one. Look, Gran, just get on the boat, will you, and help us out? Go on. That was R. That was Ronan. Ronan, Ronan, Ronan. Ronan. that's Ronan. Ronan. But he's known as Ronan Keaton. No, it's not. It's not. Ronan Keaton. throwne. the throwne. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thrown. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the the the th. th. thrown. th. the th. the the th' th G' th G' th G' th G' th G' th G' th G' th G' th G' th G' th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thu. thu. thu. thu. thu. thu. thu. thu. thu. thu. thu. thu. thu. thu. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the thu' the the thu' own, he's just known as Roland Keaton. No he's not. He's not, it's Ronan Keating. He's always been known as Ron Keating. Alright. So that doesn't work like that, go on. The third one. Next.
Starting point is 00:51:52 If you're going to do that can. This is the worst competition ever. It's Chaka. Have you got a winner? It's Chaka Khan. Shake a can. No, Chucker can. Chaka can might have worked to throw a can. Who got all three right then?
Starting point is 00:52:18 Well, because basically what happened was people just emailed in three guesses. We're stopping this. And the guesses that were right were right, it, to, that, that, th, that, th, that, that, th, guesses and the guesses that were right came from Mandy Thompson in Hendon. That's ruined that one then. Well that's run that into the ground. That's doing Eden ruined. No, we can't just bin everything on one week. That's, that's, I don't think we're going to get that.
Starting point is 00:52:35 Oh, they're not as good as they think they are because you're only picked picked picked picked picked picked picked picked picked picked picked picked picked picked picked picked picked picked picked picked on Andy is. Um, uh, chimpanzee that. You've run out of... I did like the jingle for that though. Ooh, oh, chimpanzee that! That was a great jingle. Yeah, but sadly we wouldn't use that again. So he was won anyway. Well, it was Mandy Thompson, I mentioned, but as I say she guessed, so I mean, she can't have the prizes, she's welcome to to him, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, but, the, th it. I think we should take some time off. Well. Yeah. What about like the foreseeable future? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:53:10 How does that thing? A song for the ladies? Listen, you know what, you know, I think it's maybe the March issue of Company magazine by that. Top 50 was eligible people. There's is probably an address or a phone number to the song. the song for the song song song song song song song song song song song song song song song song song song song song song song song song song song song song song song song song song song song song song song song song. the song. the song. the song. the song. the song. the song.
