The Ricky Gervais Show / An Idiot Abroad - Xfm S2E5 (September 21, 2002)
Episode Date: September 2, 2022Series two of the podcast began on 28 February 2006. It consisted of 6 episodes with the final one released on 4 April 2006. The series saw the return of Karl's Diary and Rockbusters. A new (though ...short-lived; it was only presented in the first episode) feature was also introduced in order to replace Pilkington's "Monkey News", called "Real Monkey News", where Gervais attempts to present facts about chimpanzees which are factual and scientific. With the start of series two, the formerly free Ricky Gervais Show shifted to a pay model – and as a result the show is now classified as an audiobook. It is available through Audible and the iTunes Store with individual episodes. The reason for this addition, according to Ricky on the podcast, is because The Guardian agreed to pay for the bandwidth for 12 episodes, and any more extra episodes would have to be paid for out of their personal finances.

You're listening to Ricky Javais.
You're listening to Ricky Javais, with me, Stephen Merchant, and Carl Pilgerton too.
I mean, listen to Ricky Javais, this is XFM.
It's thinking of dropping that, because it's just too little that. I'm Ricky Javais, I'm thi, I'm th. I'm Ricky, I'm th. it all about? Yeah, yeah, yeah, that sort of, I went on a fast, because I'm quite, on
a serious note, and you've always been saying it, I listened to an and I'm really concentrating out because I sounded like the most inarticulate
brain damaged older drunk I have ever heard giving a show. I mean I was shocked not finishing
sentences leaving out words slurring just doing noises that you understand because you know me.
So I'm really going to make an effort for the listener. Yeah it's not going to happen is it?
You're going to give up after about three records. But I thought you were joking. I thought it was like like like like like like like like like like like like like like, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, the, the, the most, the most, the most, the most, the most, the most the most the most the most the most the most the most the most the most the most the most the most the most the most the most the most the most the most the most the most the most the most the most the most the most the most the most the most the most the most the most the most the most the most the most, the most, the most, the most, the most, the most, the most, the most, the most, the most, the most, the happen is it? You're going to give up after about three reflux. But I thought you were joking
and I thought it was like, oh he's taken it there? Did it then? You see? Again, I don't quite
know what that sentence man. No, but. Of course I've got also your body language gesture. But obviously they've just got the voice voice voice voice voice voice voice voice voice voice voice voice. They've they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're the voice. the voice. they're just the voice. the voice. they're just they they the voice. I've just just just they're just just just they're just just just they're just just just they're just they're just they're is the man holding the show together. When he's the most articulate. Exactly.
How did I come across?
You came across as lovely. I mean, I did an interview yesterday, right?
And I was trying to describe you to this journalist.
And I was going, it's like a cat can talk.
Because the things you say, I just want to know what your world, you know when a cat comes in you go, where have you been?
And it looks as you're like, you know, it can nearly understand you.
And you like, I wonder, I'd love to know what that cat thinks.
And with you, it's almost like we've got one.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Did you like that?
You can also lick your own testicles. So yeah. Do you play the Doves? Do you play the Doves? Doves.
You're listening to Ricky Joveys.
Doves.
Caught by the River on XFM. 104.
to 9.4.9. You're listening to Ricky Joveys.
Welcome. I hope you having a lovely Saturday.
Were you asked to appear on Celebrity Fat Club?
No, I, uh, was there?
Was there? Was there?
Seriously, they didn't invite come in?
No, I don't know, I knew about it,
and I was waiting for the call and I was going to be insulted,
but it didn't come.
It didn't come.
How much you're looking forward to it? It's a new one of those reality shows, it's 10 celebrities I think, they're all overweight
and they've got to lose weight over the course of the series.
And they're celebrities.
And their celebrities.
That's what they call it that.
Celebrity Fat Club.
Sorry for the gut.
Well I'm very excited because one of them is, you know that guy who was in pop idol, was reading about him on the web earlier. It says he's been told
to lose 17 stone because they reckon he might be dead by the age of 40 if he doesn't lose
weight. Seriously. I don't know how old he's, it's only in his 20s, isn't he? Well that's still
a good 20 years of Pakey. It says he was shocked to find you weighed 31 stone. It says he was shocked to find he weighed it. It's, it, it, it, it, th, it, th, th, he, he, th, he, th, th, he, th, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he, he's thi, he's thi, he's, he's thi, he's, he's thi, he's, he's thi, he's, he, he, he's, he's, he's, he, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's thi, he's thi, he's thi, he's thi, he's thi, he's thi, he's thi, he's thee, he's theeeease theeeat, he's theease theee' theee' theee' the' the' the. 31 stone? 31 stone. But I love the fact
that's really big. I like the fact it says he was shocked to find he weighed it. I had no
inclination. I had got, I'd got, I kept me eye off the board. Exactly. That must be all
those breakfasts. I haven't stood on the scales for years and I didn't know how a man in your art, just basically two men are
going everywhere.
It is obscene because he looks, have you seen me? He looks like one of those people who's
wearing one of those inflatable sumo outfits. Yeah. He's just a little head and like a sort
of eye. We're not, we're not having to go at fat people. No, because it might be glandular. It's not, it's greed. Do you know what, th. I I I, th. Because, th. Because, th. Because, th. Because, th. Because, th. Because, th. Because, th. Because, th. Because, th. Because, th. Because, th. It, th. Because, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, thi. Because, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have, have. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the, have, have, have. You. the, have. You. You. the, have. You. You. You. the, have. You. the, have. the, have. the, have. It. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's, have. It's. It's, have. It's, have, have. It's, have, have, have. It's, have to. to. You. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. the. the. the. the. the did that room 101 and I did one, they cut out completely. I don't think I'd cut it out on taste. I think it was just too long.
And one of the ones I put in was fat people who say it's glandular, right? And they'd
done the research and two percent of obese people can claim is he was going on there on the tell he going, it's good, what a wonderful role model I am for people who don't conform to the usual pop star
sort of stereotype.
No, you're not a role model for anyone.
You are a fat pig of a man.
I'm sorry but you are, right?
But it is obscene.
It is obsceneed.
It's not his weight. The weight does consume me slightly. Do you remember when he did his version of I Will Always Love You?
Yeah, but I thought he was just singing about like a buffet or something.
Yeah, outside the chip chop.
Yeah, go away Mr Waller.
Yeah. Just let me watch the kebass. Just let me watch the keeys.
Just let me lick the fat off the floor.
No, you can't. I just imagine those people who run or you can't ets when they hear him coming they shut the door. It's like it's one of those 1920s speakeasy the front changes into like a laundrette just move on fats it's not
I can smell chip fat no no no no no move on you go but I mean we're not Olympic fat Brits they
are also fat with a 31 stone is sort of you know quite big but the American that one did you see that one that one did you thi that one that one that one that one that one that one th th th th th th th th th th that that one that that one that one that one that one that that that that one that one that one that one that one that one that one that one that one that one that one that one that one that one that one that one that one that one that one that one that one that one that one that one that one that one that one that one that one that one that one that one that one that one that one that one that one that one that one that one th th th th th thed thed tha tha that that that that that that that that that that that that that thou that that. the that. that. the I that. that that that that that that that that one we that one we that one we that one we that one we that about it before, that one on Jerry Springer, and he was 75 stone. Did you see him?
75 stone?
It was in his bed, honestly, it looked like a, I don't know, sort of molten lava in his
bed.
And it was really sad, and I was really sad, because he was, you know, he was in tears and he was going to sit, I'm going to do it, and Jerry Springer took the, to to to to the wall, to to to the wall, toe, the wall, the wall, think, think, think, thu, thu, thu, thu, thu, thu, thu, thu, thu, thu, it, it, thu, tho, it look like, it, it look, it look, it look like, I look like, I look like, I look, I look, I look, I look, I look, I look, I look, I look, I look, I look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, to. He's, look, look, look, look, look, too, look, look, look, look, look, look, look, too, look, look, look, look, look, is this, right, when he got to say 50 stones, didn't he go, that's a lot, isn't it? I've got to be careful.
For a human, you know, for someone that lives on land, that is, I'll tell you, I mean, the fact
that they have to have to have special weighing equipment, so wasn't that a clue? That must the fact the fact the fact the fact the fact the fact the fact the fact the fact they they they they they they they the fact they they they they the fact they they the fact the fact they they they that, I that, I that, I that, I that, I that, I have that, I that, I've that, I've that, I've that, I've that, I've that, I've that, I've that, I've that, I that, I that, I that, I that, I that, I that, I that, I that, I that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, I that, I that, I that, I that, I've that, I've that, I've th. that's that, I've that, that's that, that's that, that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that next door to lift up a bit to tell him how much he weighed. Yeah, the fact that he featured on the Ordnance Survey Map should have been a clue that
It's the time.
Yeah, you are, yeah.
Stop eating.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, fat.
Oh, huh.
Oh, huh.
.
. Always amazing to hear that isn't it really sugar?
It's such a great tune.
I was just into Copper Blue the album from which that's taken again.
It's just fantastic.
It really was.
Old Moldy.
Moldy old dough as I call it.
Oh, exactly.
You've got a real problem with Rick Waller, haven't you?
He turns my stomach.
I know, because he's arrogant as well that's a problem. to explain to people that no he is a bit arrogant it's his it's how his whole
thing that you that's the whole package said speak that you don't like.
Well there's another thing in this quote because he's not just the fact that he eats too much he he he he tried to to the the theyn't he to to the to the to the to the the to the the the to the the the the the to the the the to to the they. He's to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the the to to to to he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the they. he he they. he's he's he's they. he's they. yeah I don't believe it just sneaked up on him yeah it just sneaked up on him
yeah it was the cakes again yeah it was the same old cakes before it's
sleep eating yeah it's called it was the KFC bucket it was the family size KFC bucket for breakfast poor man the other th th the other th the other th the other th the other th the other th th the other other other other other other other other other other other other other other other other other the other the other th the other th th the other th th th th th th th th th th th tho th th I th I th I tho th th th th th th th th th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I tho tho the the the to to to the to to to to the to the the to the the the thing is that I don't think that's a very good shock tactic for a doctor to tell a 20 something.
Well, to be honest then you got there
and you discovered... No, but someone said... Sophie here sent me something and she said, I realise
you're not Graham Norton, but I had to send you this and she sent me the top of a little
cream cheesey thing and it's, it's the brand name is Jivais. How old that is, have you have, they've named a cheese after you? I think, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, th, th, so, th, th, th, th, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, so, th. Sophia, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, th. So, so, big French company and this is from the Czech Republic, it's all over Europe. And so it shows... That would be a dream country wouldn't it if they named a cheese after you?
No I think it's probably you know ancestors and so I've cheeses in my blood. Sure. It literally is.
It comes out of pause like those Play-Do things. I can squeeze out different shape. I can squeeze out different shape. Jane. Jane, I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I think. I think. I think. I think. I think it's Friday night. This is a Friday.
Exactly.
But yeah, so we can't really have a guy at Rick Waddle.
I eat too much, but I don't, yeah, but you're not big.
I mean, one of the other contestants on that, on the Fat Club, Celebrity Factor, is another one
one is John O, Jono, John O, you know, he's that guy that used to be on TV and I think he does a breakfast show on a rival station doesn't he? It's happy isn't he? He's so true, and he's a really nice bloat
Jono. It's funny because he does a breakfast show on Hart, which is, he's wrecking
his own. There's a bit of irony. Oh, I love not that show off, but a couple of awards dues.
Yeah, not that showing off.
Like people would have seen dead there.
Well yeah, but we, we went to one where everyone was in like tuxedos or suits and ties.
Not John O, John O was wearing a pair of Bermuda shorts and a Hawaii.
I saw him again another time and he had shorts on at a similar event and I've seen him since in the street and he's all... I don't think, I'm wondering if he
can wear a trousers. I don't think he can actually wear trousers. I don't know if there's
a medical reason for that, whether he's just, his legs are too fair. I think the material is a waste of money. I think it's just, I's just, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I that, I that, I'm just, I'm just, I'm just, I'm just, I'm just, I'm just, I'm just, I'm just, I'm just, I'm just, I'm just just, I'm just, I'm just, I'm just, I'm just, I'm just, I'm just, I'm just, I'm just, I'm just, I'm that you that you that you, I'm that you, I'm that you, I'm that you, I'm that you, I'm that you that you that you, I that you, I that you, I that you, I that you, I that you, I that you, I that you, I that you, I that you, I that, I'm th. th. th. th. I'm thin, I'm thin, I'm thin, I'm wondering, I'm wondering, I'm wondering, I'm th thin, I'm wondering, I'm wondering, I'm thin, I'm wondering, I'm thin, I'm thin, I'm wondering, I'm thin, I'm thin, I'm th be quite honest well I don't want to squeeze into a tuxedo anyway so if you can go I'd love to turn to those things in Bermuda shorts well of course
flip flops you think he started off by wearing maybe just had the upper half was a tuxedo with the tie
and then the shorts underneath and he would just have to come in to sneak you know a side board you know a party to the their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their. the Yeah. You're waiting for his own? Of course I am, yeah.
Yeah, in you go.
Kids move a bit.
Well, no, just leave the things,
of course not.
And they just thought, oh, this isn't falling any one.
So now I'm going to make a wackyers in a dressing game, didn't you? Surreise. Yeah. Yeah. Right. It's this talking about diets and stuff, right?
They've come up with a drug that they tested it out on a mouse, right?
They said, you know, it's a problem. Weight is a big issue in the world and, you know, a lot of people are depressed and that probably like Rick Waller. Well, well, well, well, well know. I mean you could you could sort out Rick by you know John O is an
old man he's got loads of money. It's not old no but he's getting on a bit right?
He's about why I'm gonna mean what I mean is he does his own shopping right so I bet it's
sorry what do you mean because he's like a old is he? 35 right? He's got loads of the thold he's th is th is th is th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th. th th th th th th thirty thirty thirty. thirty. thirty. thirty. to to to to to th. to to to to th thirty. to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He th. He th. He's th. He's th th thi. He's thi. He's tho-I tho-I tho-he tho-he tho-hea. He's tho-hea' to to to the supermarket and he passes, you know, the sponge cake section, it must be tough when you've
got loads of money to burn, that you go, just one more, one more.
We are getting close to libel here, and think one more and I'll do without...
Do you like a little chocolate muffin now and again?
Right? Is that your favorite thing?
So the thing is, let him finish his point.
So the thing is right.
Now with Rick, he lives at home with his mom, so why don't his ma'am just say I'm going to buy less this this week and if you th you th you thu.... And if th you th you th th th thu. And if you th th thi thi thi thi thi thi, and thi, and thi, and thi, and thi, and thi, and thi, and thi, thi, and thi, and thi, thi, thi, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, yeah, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi.. And, thi. And, thi's thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii. And, thooooooooo. And, tho. Does he live sharp, sharp shock? I bet he does. So you don't actually
know if this is true or not? No, but anyway, right? So this drug they've come up with.
They've tested this on mice, haven't they? They've tested it on mics. They've tested it on mics.
They've definitely been tested on mice. They fed a mouse. They fed a load a said right stop a minute and then they
gave it this drug it makes you lose weight and its weight went down but the
only bad side effect was its eyes were popping out
well that seems to be fine then let's give it to John no there doesn't seem to be
any problem let's let's uh yeah yeah Rick she gets some
yeah yeah struth doc look at to be any problem with that. It's uh, yeah, Rick, she gets some of that.
I love, yeah, Struth, Doc, look at these.
Oh, Jesus, John, your eyes are popping out.
That happened to the mice, sorry?
That happened to the mice.
What do you mean?
That's the option.
What do you mean, that?
What do you mean, that? man who has the odd sponge cake or a stick man with eyes on storks. I mean Steve's chosen
that.
All right, calm down.
I thought you were slagging off Rick Waller and fat people.
Sorry, I'm just having to go at the fat people before he started.
Yeah, no I didn't.
I mean, I didn't.
Yeah, I mean, I've got some issues and body issues. I know. I'm just a bit of that. I. I. I. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm that. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I'm just. I. I'm just. I. I. I. I'm just. I. I'm just. I. I'm th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm just. I'm just th. I'm just th. I'm just th. I'm just th. I'm just th. I'm just th. I'm just th. I'm just th. I'm just th. I'm just th. I'm just th. I'm just a little bit offended. That's upsetting. That's upsetting.
That's upsetting.
That's upsetting.
With Steve Merchant.
And we've got to try and get on though.
We've got to try and get on though.
I've got to try and get on though.
Not enough time.
Let's bang on.
Let's do some observations, some noise and satirical.
Take a sideways look at the week's news.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Sure.
Who's the fattest person you know, Carl?
Is it an issue for you? Are you concerned about fat people? I think Ricky pointed out a few months ago when I went away we were talking about plane
journeys and you were saying now it's a bit out of order and when you go on holiday right
you take your suitcase with you.
I'm a, this is all right.
Was I saying this on air though? is this my question because there's a reason I don't say
things. No, no, no, but I think. Oh no it's what I know what it was yeah yeah it's sort of like if you're not allowed to carry hand baggage on because you're a few
pounds overweight but there's a bloke behind you who weighs ten stone
more than you yeah surely the whole package should be weighed yeah like you
and your bag absolutely he should have never carry a bag so I can take on a labyrinth to they brow so I can so I can take on a tow to to to to to the to to the to to the to to the the the the the the the the to the to the the the the the to the to to the to to to to to to to to to to to to toe I to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the their their their their their their their their their their their their the the the the the the. the the the. the. their the. toe. the. toe. take on a towelet. Yeah, yeah, to wipe his...
Absolutely. Brow.
He's sweaty, fatty brow.
No, absolutely, absolutely right.
So, uh, and that does wind you up, does it?
But I don't, that's the only time.
I mean, people can't help it.
We don't want to like come across as if we're just having to have people to have people who are obese. thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. that, that. It. Yeah, thi. Yeah, thi. Yeah, thi. It's, thi. It's, thi. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It's, th. It's, th. It's, th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's the. It's that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that th'm talking about obesity. I'm not talking about people who are overweight or have got a problem with eating and
so on. I'm talking about people who are obese because that seems to me to be an indulgence.
I mean, I read some statistics.
Well, gone, if we're getting serious, it is a problem, isn't it?
Because it's an eating disorder.
So what's what's terrible is, what's terrible, what's, what's, what's, what's, what's, what's, what's, what's, what's, what's, what's, what's, what's, what's, what's for the future of our children, apparently, it genuinely is. Apparently it costs, I was reading some statistic that it costs
something like America, it costs some like $119 billion a year or something or something. But that's not
what people are starving because fat people are eating all the food. I'm not saying that it's
no I'm saying it's a concern. We're soon have kids and they're hungry. We're soon have to have starving starving starving starving starving starving starving starving starving starving starving starving starving starving. their starving. their starving. their starving. their starving. their their their. their. their. their. their, their, their, their, I's, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm s. their, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm their, I'm their, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I. I's, the, I. I. I. I. I. I's, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, door is at all the food. No, I just mean that apparently because exercise now, people
aren't taking up exercise, kids aren't taking up exercise, that we will all be obese in
years ago, not all obese, but there'll be a big obese in the problem. Well I suppose
the natural state for the mammals, we literally crave fat for hard times but now now there are no hard times. they officers. they officers. they they they they they they they they they they they they are no. they are no. they are no. But you you are no they are no. But you are no they are no. they are no they are no. they are no. they are no. they are all. We are all all. they're all all all all all all. We are all. We are all all. We are all all all are all all are all. they are all all all. they are are all all. We are all all all. We are all all. We are all all all all. they are all all. they are all. they are all. they are all. they are all. they are all. they are all. they are all. But, they are all all all all all all all all all all. But, but. But, you are no hard. But, you are notimes. We are all all all all all all all all all all all all all all. It is no. I are all saying. It's not not. I are all saying are all saying are all all saying. I are all saying. We're all all all say are not. to take our social input in.
So we still act like mammals and we eat and we crave it and we like to store fat.
That's why we have to go jogging because we don't we don't hunt, we don't do anything.
So it's not really therefore.
I mean it is about willpower and sort of like, you know, self-hate.
But in years to come we'll have just pictures like kids or just have pictures of they won't have in sync on the will it be like
sumo wrestlers oh you know summa wrestlers I saw this thing about
summer wrestlers and because they they're they're they're athletes they go into
this thing because it's a big honor to be a two minute absolutely true so you'd you'd go along and you'd they'd go go go go go go go they'd go they'd go they'd go they'd go they'd go they'd go they'd go they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd their they'd their their their to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their th so tho. tho. the. I the. I'd the. I'm the. I'm thooooooo. I'm tolde. I'm told. I'm they have doctors there so you have to eat to get big
Right and this doctor was interviewed Germany's doctor is going you know it is against you'd think it's against the
Hippocratic oath, but um, whereas they do it anyway, I do it healthily so he sells them he gives them
them diets of like you know 10 pounds of rice nine pounds of fish and things like and they get out right now Now because it's they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they'd they'd they'd they'd they're they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd they'd th to to th th to the to tho to the tho the to tho. the the the the the the s like that and they get up. Now because it's such an honor, it's almost a spiritual thing to be a great sum
and they have apprentices willing to, now you know like when you're an
apprentice say runner or something you have to make the coffee and it there, when
you're working an apprentice in the studio you don't have to
clean the floor and stuff. Do you not apprentice sumo's job is? An apprentice sumo? Go on. They wipe the sum
wrestlers a thus because they can't reach. They literally can't reach.
Right, we'll give out the phone now. Who's taking that up as a profession? I know.
I imagine that. I'd love to be a sum of wrestlers. It's a great honor and I'd love to work under you.
Sure. So what will I do start press-ups first? There'll be some press-ups,
yeah. Okay, yeah. What should I get into the gym now and uh... No, before you rush off? Go on,
go on, I'm starving. I can't understand that. Would you mind wiping my thrown?
Right. Because I've just... Can't reach? No. No, I can't get the arms back there. Can't get down there. So I'll I'm go go go go go go go go go go I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I don't get the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th th th th th th th th th th the. the. the. Don't the. Don't thi the. No, I'm the. Don't th th th th th th th th the. Don't, I to. Don't, I to. Don't, I to. Don't, I to. Don't, I to. Don't, I to. Don't, I to. Don't to. Don't a lot of this oriental food, it doesn't sit well with me, it goes straight through me to be honest. It's quite messy. It's quite messy down
there, it's quite runny. So be careful. Okay. We're wearing some gloves. If you want to wear
gloves, wear gloves? I don no good, well, no.
If someone could call in and verify that,
look, Carl, look at Carl looking at us,
like we've just said the worst thing ever.
This is true apparently.
Makes your eyes pop out and putting Forrest Gump in a wheelie bin.
Don't look at us like that.
This is a, we're talking cultural science here and wiping asses. Yeah, so play a record. Yeah, it's Lou Bro and it's Highbrow
at the same time car. That's incredible picture. Oh, E. I that this is for all you people
who like the odd cake. This is Bowie and Sweet Thing. David Bowie.
Amazing, off diamond dogs.
We went to see him in the week, didn't we?
We did indeed, yeah.
A very highly-dotal gig that tells us on there.
Amazing. Yeah, lovely to see him. Yeah, lovely to see him again.
Yeah, lovely to see him again.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. No, he's looking good. He looks great, he, was he bisexual? Sorry, I don't know what, sorry, at the gig? No, no, no, no,
it's just the fact, because I know he's married now, isn't he with a kid and stuff?
Yeah, but there was some, there was some sort of... I think, I don't know, I don't know. These pop stars they dabble with. They're try, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. How does Sima begin?
Because that's what I can't, I've never understood how it began as a sport because it's, do
you know what I mean? Because they are so huge.
Well I reckon it was a fat bloke who was picking on a little skinny bloke and the skinny
group knew Kung Fu and so he goes right, the fact, the fact was no punching. Yeah. What do you mean? It's the they they they they th. It's th. It's th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thin thin thin thin thin thin' thin' thin' th. I th. I th. I th. I've th. I've th. I've that's th. I've th. I've th. Yeah. What do you mean? He went, it's just leaning against each other. And then well, you're bound to win. I've won it. I've won it. I've
went, okay. And that's what it started. And the fact that he grabbed him. Are you, are you,, if anyone knows how Summa began, I'm genuinely interested, email maybe, Ricky
Dr.Javais at XFM.co. UK.
Just, because I, you know, Carl, what are your thoughts?
Where do you think it began?
Don't you think it's an old sport?
I mean it is a weird... I've always got nice hair. They seem to care about to care about to care about to care about to care about to care about to care about to care about to care about to care about to care about to care about to care about to care about to care about to care about to care about to care about to care about to care about their their their their their their their to care about their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their. their. their. their. their. their. to their. to to to to to to to to to their. to to to their. to their their their their their tha. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. toe. their. their. their. to. to. to.e So he's sort of nicely pinned back. Are you ever asked when people are doing like, you know,
Sharma's Britain or, you know, people are doing like big...
Historical period.
They say, well, we'll ask Carn about this, you might have an opinion.
Yeah, they've got nice out.
I'd like to see you as a pundit.
Definitely on those kind of news night.
It's just that I think it's a funny one because the whole the whole is to keep fit. And that's sort of, you know, it's a bit of an odd one, isn't it?
Well, it's the same as sort of like weightlifting.
You have to go through all that all year to see if you can push up, you know,
something heavier than someone else. But you have to walk around in a golf buggy to,that one and take steroids and... Well I mean look, I mean the other day, you know, I don't do much sport.
I think living in London, there's not that many areas you can go and...
Actually I'm probably wrong there.
Well, there's all the gyms and sports clubs and stuff in the park and the roads.
But look how excited I was going around to your place, and you had a like a little garden. Yeah I haven't got a garden. We played football didn't we? Well I did. No you were
rubbish I beat you in penalties 5-2 and then I beat you on knockout I think
10-4 and he always makes an excuse he goes no start again we didn't say
that or I'm cracking up. So have you seen Ricky play football? No I've not really seen I have not really seen any of them playing. It's not football.
You sort of do it like, um, it's like when you get a cat and you chuck it some wool, you sort
of jump on it and lie on the top of it so you can't get it and then sort of kick it with
his feet lying on the floor.
Really?
What I mean is, he fouled me and I was on one hand. He's sure he didn't just just just just just just just just he he didn't th he's th he's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's like, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo't just collapse? Yeah, but the door? That's the other thing.
That's the other thing. He just tumulips it floor and stilton pouring out of his way.
I was too strong for him.
No. I was too strong for you. I was too strong for you. Yeah, but you didn't last long did you? It was like if football matches when I went on football in the garden. th got th got th got th th th th the th the th the th the the the th the the th th th th the th th th th th th th th thaten. thaten. thaten. thaten. thateats. Yeah, well, yeah, we're going to football in the garden, yeah.
Yeah. What else do we do?
Uh, I, uh, I looked, just had a look at your salamander.
Right, is that you from Isam or more?
Because I know that when I first went your eyes, you did, you used to do that. You used to think that was hilarious. Yeah. I don't know what it is that you get to a certain age, men of a certain ilk get to a certain
ilk got it out didn't he? Yeah. Yeah, when Ross came in he did the same. It's that weird.
Yeah, I suppose. I thought you've seen it now. I thought you've seen it. you know, it's always a treat. Yeah, yeah. What do you make of Rick's place?
What do you make of it?
Again, that's not a euphemism.
It doesn't mean that I've got it's like a flat fish.
Yeah.
Do you want to see my place?
Yeah.
It's all right.
I mean, I've, I art as you are. Right. What sort of art?
Yours is quite sort of modern art.
It's got this big, like, bit of a...
Abstact.
Canvas with light, just loads of dark colors on it.
It looks really miserable.
I'll be honest with you, it sort of brings the place down.
If you're going to sell it, that woman on Channel 5, the house doctor, if she came around she said, take that down, I'll get double for it.
It's just, I thought it was like a wall he was testing.
Take that down, get that salamander out and just pop those back in your drowse.
It was like he didn't know what sort of colour to use on the wall. So he's like, he's like, he's like, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's, I didn't, I didn't, I didn't, I didn't, I didn't, I didn't, I didn't, I th. I th. I th. I's, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I th. I th. I th. I's, I's, I's, I's, I th. I th. I th. I th. I thin, I thin, I th. tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. I tho. I tho. I tho. I tho. I tho, I tho, I tho, I, no, that's not good. I'll use like a bit of a darker colour. And it's just loads of different.
Are you Brian Sewell?
Because you're just saying, so what kind of art do you like?
I'm intrigued.
Yeah.
I like Athena.
I like Laury.
Right.
Larry, right?
Larry, the worst. you're getting excited about your stuff you've got on. Lowry right? Yeah. You can look at he really is the Brian and Michael. No, well, but it's real, but it's real, right? I mean it's real.
You look at his picture and you see like little disabled people walking about. You see kids
playing with like footballs. You've got your dad coming on from work, working in the factory,
got a little dog barking. It's life, right? And you can look at it for like 10 minutes, go away, go and
watch telly or something for a bit, go back to it and you'll see different things in it.
Really? What is it like one of those magic eyes? You're sure that's not a tele? Yeah, you've
been looking at the window car? You're sure you weren't watching when the boat comes in? People will agree with me. It's better than your stuff. It's. It's, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, to to to to to to to to to to to to, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go, go to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to th. Go, go, go that, go that, go that, go that, go that, go that, go back, go back, go back, go back, go back, go back, go back, go back, go back, go back, go back, go back to to to to to to to to to to we had something to say.
What are you talking about with no discussing art?
We were taking the big out of fat people and now it's all...
And now you've taken it all high, bro, Carl.
Play a record, we come something to talk about on XFM 104.9, you're listening to Ricky Javais.
Well then that's Steve Mitcham.
Let's just get on with a... We've already had a complaint.
Yeah. Someone's saying, you're a TV show so good, why is your radio so hard work, you useless, fat?
Yeah. You can't, you can't please everyone, Carl.
It's like Lowry.
Some people like Larry.
Some people like that fella who did the dark painting for me.
Talking of emails, there was some guy, he doesn't mention his name.
Or maybe his name's Steve.
But he said that he was checking out the office DVDs.
DVD's going on sale soon. But he was checking out on Amazon, and he said that it says it says on, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he, he was, he was, he was, he was, he was, he was, he was, he was, he was, he was checking, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. thi. the. thi. the. the. thi. thi, thi, thi, thi, th DVD of the office have gone on sales and he said that it says on there and I did
check it double check it that it includes some special some special footage on
the or special frotage is that correctly pronounced is that mutual doing it to
each other I think it's sexual or is it the rubbing up against each other yeah
it's one of those yeah it's what it is where you rub up against
I know it's something like that yeah so there's some special frotage the special special special special special special special special special special special special special
It's one of those, isn't it? It's where you rub up against people. I don't know, it's something like that.
So there's some special frotage on there?
Yeah.
I think they mean footage.
I'm imagining so.
If you're buying it for frotage, you are going to be disappointed.
Yeah.
Yeah.
But, um, we're going to,, I used to get the Guinness
Book of Records every year from about the age of 10 onwards, and I went straight, went
to the section like, you know, the biggest, fatist, all that, and they used to be gluttony
records and it was like these ridiculously looking Texans and how many hamburbers they can eat and of course they were, it was just so dangerous, they've put it down to how many hamburgers you can be eating a minute now and so they brought it down to things like
17. Yeah, they still burst their stemmer grass ball. But I remember I was watching the big
brother when they had to break that record, you know like eating sweet corn and balancing. I was
thinking, who wants to beat that record? Rosed the records the records the records the records the records the records the records thethe Guinness Records exist because no one wants to contest them.
There's one in there, a bloke there, the pitch taken with a milk bottle on his head and it's
the record for having a milk bottle on his head.
And it's like four days I want to go, no one wants to beat that record. And there was one in there, this is amazing, this is absolutely absolutely absolutely absolutely absolutely absolutely absolutely absolutely absolutely absolutely thereen, right, right, right, right, threne, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, right, th, th, thre, th, th, their, and their, and their, and their, and their, and their, and their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, thre, thre, thre, thre, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, the some sort of a temple or ceremony, these
incense burners fell over and I think crushed people or burn people to death, seven people
died and it's under the heading worst jostic disaster ever.
Do you reckon they're going to try and beat that one?
Oh God! There's a, there's a guy up north, right, who's, um, he's in the Guinness Book Records for being able to put to to to to to put to put to put to put to put to put to put to put to put to put to put to put to put to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to their their going to try and beat that one? Oh God. There's a guy up north, right, who's, um, he's in a Guinness Book of Records
for being able to put a, you know, a car, a little mini?
Up his pass?
No, on his head, right?
And you think, oh, that's good.
But without the engine in.
I know the fact that he puts this things, think, thops, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, the thin, thin, thin, thin, the thin, thin, thin, thin, tho, tho, tho, tho, thin, thi, to put to put to put to put to put, to put, to put, to put, to put, to put, to put, to put, to put, to put, to put, to put, to put, to put, to put, to put, to put, to put, to to to to th the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the thin, thin puts this thing that steals weight, weighs like you know 50 stones
on his head and you're going boom.
What do you mean he puts the mini on his head?
He wears a little cap with a little bit of sponge on.
They all do up there.
And he picks up this mini.
Yeah, go on.
And he takes like two blocks to put it on his head and then he walks around for about 10 seconds showing off but he doesn't have the engine in it so I mean if you're gonna do it yeah go the whole hog is what I'm saying.
See what I think the reason I think he didn't do it with the engine in is
because he couldn't Carl. Well we'll pick do a motorbike or something.
My mate went to see that what's that circus that came to London and that was in the Camden and it's all like like really like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. the the the th. th. th. th. th. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the thehic things. Oh right yes I remember. He said at one point this nude woman got into a jar he went but it was a big jar. He said it was a jar big enough for a woman.
Yeah yeah yeah. Get into a jam jar. Exactly. I'll be applauded. But that's a jar. That's a jar.
I will get into a wardrobe. Yeah I can get into that. No, I will get into the
wardrobe. I told you about this before Rick. I was devastated a couple years, I think it was
a couple years ago, and I read about that guy that won the world record for staying underground
the longest. What happened right? He got in this box and he was buried like 10 feet underground. And he was buried like 10 feet underground. And the only way he could communicate, the only way he could communicate was through this tube that they had
that went up to the surface and he could talk to people and I assume that was how he got
oxygen. And it said that while he was down there, right, he began and ended a relationship with a woman. She put a note down. She was a passer by she chattanoano. She was, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she, she was, she was, she was, she was, she was, and she was, and she was, and she was, and she was, and she, and she was a th. And, and she was, and she, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and I, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, and, I. And, I. And, I. And, I, I. And, I, I, I. And, I. And, I. And, I. And, I. And, I. And, I. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thed, thed, they started this relationship and they ended it, right? Now, my point was, right, obviously, you know, my luck with the ladies is not, not
triumphant and you know I haven't got a girlfriend or whatever. You don't have done one.
Yeah, exactly right. And what I'm saying is when you read that there's a man 10 feet underground pulling women through a tube, yeah. Yeah. You've got to to to to to to to to their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thoome. their thoomoomo thoom. their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their thuuu. thu. theu. theu. theu. theuuu. theuuu thu thu thu theu theu theu theu theu the theu their their their tube, you've got to sit yourself down and ask yourself some very serious questions.
I was a little bit, as you can imagine, a little bit upset from the Midlands.
Exactly.
A little bit devastated.
Oh dear.
Really upset me.
Do you still throw little rocks at them and go over here?
Do you still throw little rocks at them and go over here?
I remember at our school Mark Mark Johnson, when we were like
10 or something, and we were talking about Guinness Book of Records, and Mark Johnson went,
yeah I'm in the Guinness Book of Records.
I thought I'm intrigued, you're a 10 year old.
I said, go on, he went, now I don't, does this qualify?
He claimed that he was in America once and he went to see a baseball game and the supposedly
that game was the world record for the number of people in an audience for a
baseball game it was like some massive stadium and this was the most people
I tell away his account I don't reckon I don't reckon it was listed well I don't
reckon Mark Johnson got his name on that list exactly
Ross but were we going well that's the whole book I think I remember looking it up and going there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there there I there I there I there there I there there I there I the the the the the the thI the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the they they their their list. Ross but were going, well that's the whole book.
I think I remember looking it up and going, there it is, I was there.
Yeah, yeah, no.
Does that count?
I mean, I don't.
I've done a similar thing.
There was an ice hockey game in Manchester.
Sure. And they filled it.
It was the best thing you've
ever done? I don't know. Come on. What's the best thing you ever done that we will go, did you
really do that, Carl? You see it's weird because I've been thinking. Are you really? Oh, you're just going to try and get presents, aren't you, from the listener?
No.
But...
I say listener.
Yeah.
But, um, I kind of was thinking, have I had a good 30 years?
What do you think?
I don't know.
Is this going to get a bit melancholy now?
Yeah. Because we've been having a few laughs at the expense of fat people. I'm not sure you want you to bring it down there.
No. We've been having a jolly laugh about people who are morbidly obese. It's always
when my girlfriend's working away, I always think about odd things. Odd times.
Don't she leave you shiny things or videos in so you don't get too depressed? You can't you you you you you you you you you you I sent you that text. That was... Right.
Right, let's play a record.
This sounds intriguing because I worry about the cards on it.
It's incredible.
Right, play a record.
Right, wait for this text that Carl sent me. Is it here? All along the watchtower there by Jimmy Hendrix.
Beautiful. Can I just say straight away, Rick, before you carry on.
And we've had some people emailing in about the origins of Sumo wrestling.
But they've sort of cut and pasted a huge ream of information from the web.
Thanks very much, but we need bullet points or not, don't bother.
You're wasting our time, frankly, with any kind of too many sentences proper grammar we're talking about Ricky Gervais here yeah so I'd read the bullet points either you'd read them to exactly but
exactly your your concentration would lap so quickly they just needs to be
keywords you know arse sumo things like that yes ass wipe yes yes
white sumo correct yeah or maybe even a picture of someone wiping an
ass with a tip next to it if If you could get words out. Maybe if you could send through
the origins of Sumer Wrestling in sort of diagram or sketch form or in a kind of comic book
or one of those flick books that just maybe draw a quick flick book, send that in. But thank you very
much. I actually think of that. I woke up this morning, yeah, feeling fine. It's not a blue song. And I turned my phone on and it was from Carl and it went
forget it I've made my mind up and I thought wow what is that and I forget it I've made
yeah I went Carl what is it he went oh no it's about the text I sent you last night
well what was it I just got this text. He went, ah, I was just wondering. I was thinking last night.
He said, supposing you have to have your hands removed. Right?
And the doctor said, well, you can either have him stay like that with stumps or I can sew feet there.
What would you have? And I was bleary eyes and I went
the stumps. He went, yeah. I went, all right? He went, yeah. And then what was his follow-up
text to that? And then I got the text, it was obviously before it, and it went, and it was
like quite serious, what would you do, if a serious, would you have stumps or the feet? Now the way, when the the the the the the the the the the the the thu thuu thu thu thu? I I thu? I thu? I thu, thu, thu, thu, I was thu, I was thu, I was thoom? I was, I went, I went, I was thum. I went, I went, I went, I went, I went, I went, I went, I went, I went, I went, I went, I went, I went, I went, I went, I went, I went, I was, I was, I was, I was, I was, I the stumps, I thu, I thu, I thu, I thu, I thu, I thu, I thu. I thu, I thu, I thu, I thu, I went, I went, I went, I went, I went, I went, the stu, the stum. I went, the stum. I went, the stum. I went, the stum. I went, the stum. I went, the stum. I went, I went, I went, I went, I went, I went, I went or the feet? Now the way, when I said he's made his mind up
and I went the stumps he went, yeah, I think secretly he decided on the feet
but it was too embarrassed to tell me. There's a little, little bit of what would
you do? Because it's, it, last night, why did you think of this?
Girlfriend's awake, right? Yeah no, that's not why you start thinking bizarre surgery devices.
I'll let you into my little mind, right?
Last night, I had some beans on toast, right?
She was away.
She was away.
She was away, she had some beans on toe.
She went wild.
Right? Now, I was stood up.
I live on like on a high street, right?
So I'm washing up, I'm looking out the window. First thing that had me attention is I can look into other people's flats, right? And it was weird how all these different lives were going on. I
was watching them and everybody had the tele on and was watching Volcano, right? Which
was on last night. And I thought, oh, that's weird, right? I can see him all watching
it, and it was like a little Chinese lad who was dancing around in some under pants. And then there's a little old woman who lives downstairs who was reading a book and she's always reading a book every night
and it's like I have a better life than her. And then there's like some sort of
bouncer who's always getting ready to go out late at night with all the black
on he looks like a bouncer. So I was watching all this life. Did you witness a murder while you were doing it? the the sort of a thrown. I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I was, their, th th thin, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I was like, I was like, I was like, and I was like, and I was like, and I was like, I was like, and it was like, I'm, and it's like, and it's like, and it, and it, and it, and it, and it, and it, and it, and it, and it, and it, and it, and it, and it, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I was like, I their, I their, I their, I their, I their, I th th th th th th thi, I thi, I'm, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I've like, I'm like, I've like, I'm like, I've like, I've like, I've like, I've the the iver film where that bloke had loads of tellies watching people's lives.
So that was going on in my mind and then I was washing up and I picked up the plate and I thought it's amazing in it the human body.
The way you can just sort of you know I want to pick that up and you do. Yes. And the way your hands work right you've got to do. so I'm cleaning the plate. I. I. I. I. I. I the the the the the the the plate. the plate. the plate. the plate. the plate. the plate. the plate. the plate. the plate. the plate. the plate. the plate. the plate. the plate. the plate. the plate. the plate. the plate. the plate. And I was. th. th. It was. It was. I was. I was. And I was. And I was. And I was. And I was. And I was. And I was. And I was. And I was. And I was. And I was. And I was. And I was. And I was. And I was. And I. And I. And I. And I. And I. And I. And I. And I. And I. And I. And I was. And I was. And I was. And I was. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's the the the the th. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was. I was th. I was th. I was th. I was th. I was the the the the the the the the the right amount to do what you've got to do, right?
So I'm washing, I'm feeling the plate.
Sorry Carl, stop, it's just the right amount.
Might be one of the most genius things I've ever had said.
I would love David Atombre to phone you up and say, car, how do I word this about
the evolution of the mammalian front limb just go I would just say
it's the right amount but it is it is one extra would get in the way yeah
and one less would just make it a little bit more tricky when picking up a
bit of a slippery dish sure or buying gloves yeah a slippery dish so then I was
thinking oh imagine like going to the doctors and they're saying yeah everything's
all right your art's good and everything but... your art's good what your l's or yeah yeah yeah yeah ha ha ha you're in good you're in good
good you know I had Gianna win earlier he's not looking good
but you're you're all right but your hands need to come off right
right that's bad like I get a second opinion initially
but a better good news I've got a nice pair of feet I can sort you out with and and yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th you're th you're their hands their hands their hands their hands their hands their hands their hands their hands their hands their hands their hands their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their th th th th th th th th the the the are the are the are theeee are thee are the are the are the are the are the are the are their their the the That's bad. I get a second opinion initially. Oh God!
But I bet a good news, I've got a nice pair of feet I can sort you out with.
And he puts them on, and I was thinking, right, first of all, washing up what would that be like?
I thought, Steve?
That'd be tricky.
And then the second thing was, it probably ruined the shape of your jumper.
Because you have to keep putting the feet with the feet in in in in in in in in in in the feet in in in in in the feet in in the feet in the feet in in the feet in the feet in the feet in the feet in the feet in the feet in the feet with the feet with the feet with the feet with the feet with the feet with the feet with the feet with the shape of your jumper. Because you have to keep putting the feet through there.
And then I thought, but I could still cycle in.
Okay.
To work.
You could run in.
Well, that's the thing.
You'd be really fast.
That's what I was thinking.
I thought, I could still cycle because I could balance.
And then I thought, but the only again you're running in half the time.
So that's what was going on last night.
That's what I was thinking about.
How long did this take?
Well how long did it took to wash up?
Right. Because I imagine you just being there for like all night.
Probably 25 minutes.
How long did the little Chinese fellow dance for in his pants?
He's always doing it. Last night he was at it for like 10 minutes. Just, yeah.
And his girlfriend never sits in the same room as him. She's always in the room as he's always in the room. the bedroom sat on the floor on the mobile phone. All the time, yeah, it's weird. Our people's lives are just like, it's like that ground dog day thing. It's like, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi, thi, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi, thi, thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi., yeah, it's weird. Our people's lives are just like, it's like that Groundog Day thing. It's like, you know, he's jumping about in his underpants. The
old woman sat there reading a book. And that's what got me thinking about my life before.
Do you think she ever goes... Are you sure she's not dead? Every time you look down there, she's just flicking this book. She's just reading the the book the book the book the book the book the book, she's the book, she's the book, she's the book, she's the book, she's the book, she's the book, she's the book, she's the book, she's the book, she's the book, she's just, she's just, she's just, she's just, she's just, she's just reading, she's just, she's just, she's just, she's the the the the the the the the the the the the the book, she's just reading, she's just reading, she's just reading, she's just reading, she's the book, she's the book, she's the book, she's the book, she's the book, she's the book, she's the book, she's the book, she's the book, she's the book, she's the book, she's the book, she's the book, she's the book, she's the book, the the tho, the thi, the old old old the old the old the old the old the old the old the old the old the book, she's just reading, she's just reading, she's just theed. She never seems to finish it. She never moves from her chair.
Are you sure the Chinese girl is going?
I'm going into next door again. That little round eddy fellas looking in. He's looking in at me.
The bouncer. the bouncer. the bouncer. the bouncer. the bouncer. the bouncer. their
That's true. That's true. They see youtell us roughly which neighborhood you live in so so that we know?
It's central. Central is it?
Yeah.
Wow, imagine if that little, was he a Chinese fellow? Did he say?
Imagine if he was listening now, I'd love him to call in and explain his actions.
Well, he might be on some other radio station talking about a lad who's always washing up and looking at his hands in a mysterious way. But do we have this doctor, this doctor that would go, well alright, Carl, I've got,
you could either leave him as stumps or I've got every little pair of feet.
Why, I mean, I told Jane this and Jane went, is that the only choice?
Is that the only choice? You could say, could I have some dead man's hands?
Have you got any, where do you get the feet from? Where do you get the feet from? Can I have, what would you rather have then? Human feet?
Human feet or monkey paws? Well, I mean that wasn't an option last night. That if the doctor's
said, no, no, no, it wasn't an option last night, but don't forget it's in your head,
it's in your head you can go anywhere
You're not trapped. Yeah, but if you can do anything then you'd say we'll sort us out some other hands
Fair point. Let's play record.
We gotta come back to this. Strokes, Someday, XFM, 104.9, Ricky Juvais.
Lads, can I just stop you there straight away?
Because the record finished before we'd finished chatting about what we're going to do next.
We're going to do Carl's stupid competition again.
We're just trying to get the... I think, I think that you should...
What are the rules?
Because last week it was a shambles, I know, because people it was, it was, it was, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, the, the, because, the, their, because, their, their, tha, their, th I should talk. I think people should phone up now and be having a queue and then he should have the clue otherwise because people are just phone up when they know
the answer or not. But how is that entertaining to the listener? Is that why I'm going to to
think that's why I'm going to to throw back at your straight? I don't think this is entertaining at all. I just think people might want to do it. The way. The way. The way th. The way th. The way th. The way th. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the people the people the. the. the. I the. I the. I's. they're Out and John continuing our sort of thing of don't
don't diss him just because they're old and bald now. It needs to be good.
This is a beautiful track. I dissed him didn't I? Yeah. Called tiny dance.
So we're going to enjoy that. Enjoy that. Enjoy that. And then if not
now. Steve what were you going to play the game, what should they be doing, Carl? Should they be phoning it out? Say the phone
number a game. They should be ringing 08, 700, 800, 1,234. And two lucky contestants get
to play your game. Yeah, what's the song that Carl's thinking? Could I give you a clue when you call up? You've got more chance of a the the their, ist. Exactly. Most of the people that phone sound a bit like Carl. We're
not interesting. We don't want those sort of people. We want people who can, you
know, who are great track.
Well, we've got...
Well, despite Carl's actions, you should have seen Carl. It was like squiddly-didly.
His arms and legs there, he'd have been better with feet.
I'll tell you. He didn't know what he was doing. We were getting angry.
At one point, he went, oh, oh we get a man and a woman.
And he, uh, bloke phones up, he goes, are you a bloak?
He goes, oh, you're a bloak.
And then, no, bloke, because he goes, oh, you're a bloak.
We wanted a woman.
And to people. So what have we got on the line? There's the woman.
Hello. Hello. What's your name? Sarah. Sarah. Okay, right Steve, you want to be rooting for this?
Well I think we should, it seems to me because you may need some help because obviously
Kyle's mind is a viper's nest. It's a jungle in there. So you know if you want to call anyone at any point maybe you've got some questions you want to just consult or can't confer then I'll be on your
side. You're like you're like your phone a friend exactly I'm the phone a friend
I'm the phone a friend and ask the audience. Who's the bloke? Here's the bloke? It's
Owen. Owin. Okay I'll keep it real like this. I should just say for people who have not heard the show before, this is where Kyle now
will tell us a cryptic story and basically hidden within that will be a clue to the title
of a song.
I say cryptic.
It's gobbled-y.
Yeah.
Nonsense.
So, okay then. Just to find out who goes first, my lad or your girl, I'm going to toss a coin in my head.
So who can guess.
Well, ladies first.
What was your name again?
Sorry?
Sarah.
So Sarah.
Head or tales?
No.
Right.
My lad will go first.
Okay.
So what this means is when he's finished the cryptic clue, you, Owen, will get to guess first, but if you get it wrong, it goes over to Sarah and then back and forth until, hopefully one of you
gets it right.
Okay.
Okay, we could be here for some time.
Right, and what are we're playing for?
Right, and what are we playing for?
Right, and what are you're playing?
Whatever, whatever you've got, whatever, it's the name of a song we're looking for, brilliant. Right, this bloke, he's had a good night out at the pub. This is probably all irrelevant. Remember that, Owen,
this could all be irrelevant. Okay, right? So he's had a good night out with his mates and
that and he's really enjoyed himself. And he's on his way home and he's just like, the same people leaving leaving the pub going home and it's like see you know see you tomorrow night I'll be out
tomorrow 730 and what have you and and they're on the way home and it's nice
night everything's everything's nice and he's walking home and he sees this sort
of smoke coming out of a grid? Yeah, a bit of
like smoke and he thinks what's that? All right? And this is what's weird because
it's like any other normal night but this time the smoke coming out of the grid
and he goes over to it and he goes over to it and he can't see to the grid up, right? It's like, oh, so he thinks this isn't right. he he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's like, he's he's like, he's like, he's th. th. thin's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's, he's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's th. He's, he's, he's, he's th. He's th. th. th. th. thin, he's thin, he's thin. thin. thin. th. thin. thin. th thin. th thin. th thii. thin. thi. thi. thi. thi. th over the grid and he's looking down it and he can't see anything.
So he lifts the grid up. Right? Do you mean a grill? No a grid? A grid? A grid? You know
what? Not really? A grill? Okay. And he lifts it off and he's looking and like more
smoke's coming out and he can hear the moaning getting louder and then this little demon pops his head out. Right? And he goes, are you all right?
And the little demon goes, oh I'm hurting. And he goes, what do you mean you're hurting?
He said, oh it's dead o'clock down there, you know, and it's weird because he works it out
that it's like come from hell, right? And it's going, oh I'm all the threatening and all his skin sort of really red raw because of all the flames the flames flames flames flames flames flames flames flames flames the flames the flames the flames the flames, the flames, the flames, the flames, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, and, and, and thi, and thi's, and tho, and thi, and tho, and tho, and tho, and tho, and tho, and he's like, and he's like, and he's like, and I, and I, and I'm, and I'm, and I'm, and I'm, and I'm, and I'm, and, and I, and, and I, and I, and I, and I, and, and I, and I, and I, and I, and I, and I, and I, and I, and I thi, and I's, and I'm, and I's, and I'm, and I'm, and I'm the, and I'm thea, and thea, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, and thea, and thea sort of really red raw because of all the flames in hell and stuff.
So he goes, oh, he said, I'll tell you what, I'll take you to the doctors.
And little demons like, what, you'll do that for me?
And he goes, yeah, I'll do that.
And he text him to the doctors, what's the song? That was Ricky Jovey's an ex-fam. It's three o'clock now. We're going over to Natasha.
Thanks very much. See you next week. Bye.
Learn along. That was quite a long story. Is Owen and Sarah still there?
Yeah. Have you do you still with us? Okay, Owen.
Okay, Owen. Any clues? No, not yet. I haven't got a clue. I haven't got a clue. I have a clue. I have I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I have. I have. I have to. I have to. I have to. I have to. I have to. I have to have to have a to have a to have a to have a to have a to have a to have a to have a to have a to have a to have a to have a to have a to have a to have a to have a to have a to have a to have a to have a to have a to have a to have a to have a to have a to. No, I think Owen needs to at least have a guess.
Go and have a guess, Owen.
Uh, smoke on the water.
No.
Well, it's not, is it?
So, okay.
Oster, what do you think?
That's out of hell?
It's a good guess.
No, not right.
you'd have to give him a little clue. Um, well think about the little fella.
Think about the little demon?
Yeah.
Okay. There's the clue.
Brilliant. Thanks for that.
Where did I say he came from?
Highway to hell.
On the right, along the right lines, but not the right song.
Sarah. Sarah. Stay away to heaven.
Oh.
Carl, if this is rubbish, I'm never working with you again.
If this doesn't work...
What do you mean if this is rubbish?
Right, okay, take the main bit of the story.
What's the main bit of the story?
It took 30 minutes. The grid? There's the grid. We've got the main bit of the story, what's happened? We don't know what the main bit is! It took 30 minutes!
The grid, the grid, the smoat.
What's he done?
How did the story end?
He went to the doctor?
He went to the doctor.
He went to the doctor.
Who did he take to the doctor?
A little demon? Sarah, come on, let's think about this. Why would he take a little burnt demon to... Was he burnt? He was burnt, wasn't he? It's from hell. All the flames and that and all
his skin's really raw and he's like, he was moaning in pain. And the little fellow goes,
yeah, I am on the way home. My tea's gonna be in the oven and everything, but do you know what? I'm gonna to take you to you to you to you to to to to to to to to the the the doctors you to the doctors you to the doctors you to to the doctors you to the doctors you to the doctors you to to to their to their their their to their their to their their their to tooom. to to their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their thoom. thoa. thoa. thooa. thooooa. thoooooa. thoooooooa. toe. thooooa. their the got there in the house who could maybe help you? Like a sort of eight year old child? Yeah, yeah. An alien? Yeah.
Um. I've got a three month old baby. He probably talks more sense. Yeah. Not than you.
than car we mean. Um, right. I'll tell you what, let's play a record.
But these four all have a chat.
These four people have got lives.
Sure.
They've got...
Oh yeah, like we haven't.
No, but I know they're so many things I could be doing instead of this, Rick.
I know, but Carl.
Carl.
We'll play some ads, right.
They can't stay on the live. They've got three minutes to think about it. Is that all right, were you? Okay. Yeah, and is that all right, Owen? Yep. Sorted.
X-FM.
All right.
Please try and guess this, because Carl's threatening to roll it over to next week.
I know. I don't want to live a week trying to think of a little burnt devil in a grid! That was it! Devil in a grid!
Devil in a grid!
Smoky, smokey devil, devil,
oh god!
Burnt devil, the devil grid!
Sarah, any...
Grid?
Any idea?
He means a little thing in the smoke.
the smoke, burn,
burn, barbecue,
Bar-Bah
Owen, any, any ideas? Uh, devil without a cause by Kid Rock.
No.
What we're going to... Is the word devil? Right.
So devil's a key word here?
And you're thinking about what the bloke's...
What's the bloke done? He's took him to doctors?
Devil, isn't he the cat? Why did he do that? Why didn't he just say, oh yeah, it looks terrible, Good Samaritan. He's a good guy. He's a good guy. Savior. Devil. Save your devil for later.
We're really running out.
I've got it. I've got it.
Have you really?
Sarah, I tell you this, love.
You are, you have got something to entertain yourself with in about three weeks
time when we get the DVDs and videos through.
Um, ladies gentlemen.
Sympathy for the devil. Well done! Sympathy for the devil!
Oh, man alive.
It's rubbish, that's not a cryptic clue.
It's not rubbish.
Sympathy for the devil?
You said he wasn't the devil, you said he was a demon.
Right, right?
Okay, sympathy for?
What's all that rubbish about him being burnt and take them for hospital. Sorry Rick, but I'm noting a little bit of jealousy there. It's so rubbish. No, I'm sorry, but Sarah is happy. It's not allowed to try and make
people get. Her baby is happy. Her husband or maybe Pire, maybe they're not married, maybe
they're living in sin. He's also happy. They're happy. They're happy. That household. Oh, Oh, in devastating. Oh, devastated. Yeah. Oh, do what. Oh, do. Oh, do. Oh, do. Oh, do. Oh, do. Oh, do. Oh, do. Oh, do. Oh, do. Oh, do. Oh, do. Oh, do. Oh, that. Oh, it. Oh, it. Oh, it. Oh, it. Oh, it. Oh, it. Oh, it. Oh, it. Oh, it. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It is. It is. It is. It is. It is. It is. It is. It is. It is. It is. It is. It is. It is. It is. It is. It is. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It. It's. It. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's not. It's not. It's not. It's not. It's not. It's not. It's not. It's not. It's. It's not. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. Itvd. Sarah, thank you very much indeed for playing. Oh, in commiserations. Sorry, Owen.
Yeah.
Triumphant.
Another triumphant.
You're so rubbish, Carl.
You are so rubbish.
Oh dear.
Rubbish.
Rubbish.
Well on, Steve.
Jealous.
I love it.
I thought it was great one.
