I want to go through some
Instagram accounts, but first,
bam, we're live.
The Thumb, Taylor Self from Self Made Training Program, as it says in his name.
If you want to get fit, that's your place to go.
If you want to get super fit, that's the place you want to go.
If you want to go to the games and you want a one-on-one coach,
he only takes one male and one female per year.
Get your applications in now.
Is that true?
You only take one male,
one female.
I just made that up.
Yeah,
that's not true.
You made it up.
Well,
is it true that you're sitting in a rocking chair,
like an actual rocking chair?
No,
but this chair,
no,
I'm just like pushing off the wall in front of me.
I do love a freaking rocking chair,
dude,
but this is like a hundred year old chair.
I could see you being 80 years old in a rocking chair.
Just like saying the worst
words to random people walking by uh jr howell from crossfit crash founder of the crash crucible
founder of the crash crescendo founder of jason hopper uh owner of the best facility in
on the east coast if you want to do hit workouts workouts. Oh, I hate it when people say that.
I'm starting to hear that more and more. What did you do today? I did a HIIT.
You mean you did CrossFit? You
jackass. And then finally,
Chase Ingram needs no introduction.
After the
Lone Ranger, he is the most recognized voice
in all of
CrossFit. And yes, finally,
that's me.
Prison savvy.
Like every good show, let us begin.
So what we're going to do today is we're going to go through all the Rogue Invitational workouts.
We're going to give you the deepest.
This is the official.
I deem this the official show for the Rogue Invitational events.
But like every good show, we will start at Daniel Brandon's Instagram account
and look at the grid. I can't believe
this photo. Those are some
of the largest grapes I've ever seen.
Maybe you could scroll.
Yeah, there we go. There we go.
Jesus Christ.
My goodness. Marron.
Okay, can we play that video?
What's going on here?
Let's play this video.
Does she have a grape on her chin?
She does.
Okay.
Oh, man.
Copyrighted music.
Okay, let's read some of the comments.
How does one apply for the grape feeder position?
I'd feed you those grapes.
Just bought a house across the street.
Wow.
Like that one, please.
Caleb.
Yeah.
Oh, my goodness.
Oh, my God.
I just bought a house across the street.
I've been waiting for this video to drop all day.
Thank you, Ms. Ariel.
Me too.
The kid cutaway.
Matt Susan, now that's how you sell a cold tub.
Please like that one.
My goodness.
Who's filming this?
Jeez Louise.
Wow.
Well, at least she chews with her mouth closed.
Hey, she's a good dude uh daniel brandon will be doing the workouts
if everything goes according to plan that we will be talking about uh today uh one more thing uh
let's do a quick a little tour of uh some of the big uh instagram accounts that are relevant to
today's show let's go over to katie henn's account. She is the, I believe, the head honcho for this event
and co-owner of Rogue with the extraordinary Bill Henneger.
Let's just take just a quick peek over there.
Do some trolling.
Let's just go through the last six posts.
Can we click that one with the wine bottle or whatever that is
What's going on there
It's Dave's olive oil
Oh they're gonna get fucked up for one of the events
Oh new shipment of the Dave Castro olive oil
For the Rogue Invitational
Okay I thought he was using tins
He's doing both
Okay well there you go
Those will be in limited supply
If you are at the event make sure you purchase the olive oil while you can.
And Dave will be there.
Have him sign the bottle.
Okay, let's see the next threat or next.
Crocs, J.R. Howell, do you wear Crocs?
Affirmative.
No.
Oh, you do?
You do?
Yeah.
I've never seen you wear Crocs.
Yeah, slides or Crocs to and from the gym every day. God, I wouldn't be caught dead in Crocs, but I've never seen you wear Crocs. Yeah, slides or Crocs to and from the gym every day.
God, I wouldn't be caught dead in Crocs, but I've never tried them.
It's just a completely uneducated decision.
Would you support Crocs?
Do you like Crocs?
Why do you wear them?
Just because they're cool or because they actually feel good?
Just comfort.
Yeah, I remember when – I believe it was like 2020 or 2019 when the healthcare workers just in general were just getting slammed with a lot of hospitalizations.
And I think Crocs was like, we're going to give a free pair to every healthcare provider, RN, anyone.
So they just like sent me a pair randomly.
And then I feel like they took off after that.
Now it's like the cool thing to do is to wear crocs and put little you know um uh uh speaking of uh getting slammed a health care
professional is getting slammed isn't your wife a health care professional uh she is and you will
not speak about her getting slammed i just don't even like that word and my wife in that same
center oh jr howell getting feisty i sent i sent i sent a picture i sent a picture
of my wife wearing a seven ceo shirt his response was yum i would never i would never ever ever
dress like that dude i'm a professional uh chase you got my back?
You wear Crocs?
No.
Okay.
Mr. Thumb.
No, I've never.
I go barefoot.
I'm a barefoot guy.
Oh, look at this.
The young J.R. Howell.
Oh, my God.
That's a fucking.
Picture's 100% edited.
That's 100% edited.
Someone with talent made that.
Oh, shit.
Young J.R. Howell,
from the past, I'd rock Croc.
J.R.'s always continuity.
That J.R. only
wore white forces. I'll tell you that right now.
Okay, let's go
down a couple more pictures. We don't have time for
this, but what's this one?
What's the one with the stadium?
Any clues here? Anything we need to see? What's that thing with the... Yeah, what's that? What's that? What's this one? What's the one with the stadium? Any clues here? Anything we need to see?
What's that thing with the... Yeah, what's that?
What's that? What's this? What's that?
It's already been announced.
That's a log for the Bar Muscles.
Oh, it is?
Yeah.
Is it just like the one at the games?
Or was it Rogue last year?
No, it was Rogue last year?
The exact same.
But painted this year? No, it was Rogue last year? The exact same. But painted this year.
No, painted.
Isn't that?
No, that's just,
it's like a new set of rings.
It's just, they look like that.
Okay, it looks like it was painted white,
like they don't want like, you know,
like bugs or something eating at it.
You know what I mean?
Like that treatment that trees sometimes have.
Just put it on,
put some creosote on those things.
Yeah, thank you.
Thank you.
Okay, what else we got? What else? Let's go a couple. What's that thing with the steel box down there? some creosote on those things. Yeah. Thank you. Thank you. Okay.
What else we got?
What else?
Let's go a couple.
What's that thing with the steel box down there?
No,
not yet.
Yeah.
Oh,
Oh,
yeah.
Yeah.
But usually that's,
I don't know, but like, think about the cleanup that's pretty yeah the
name of the workout that's been not announced just the title of the workout has been they're
gonna have to clean up their however many curex of doo-doo they can produce and put it in that
but what number what number is that do you know uh mr Mr. Howell? Nine. Nine. Okay. Yeah, it's late.
The last.
Okay.
Caleb, can you pull out and we see the whole grid, see if there's anything else?
We got those.
We obviously all see those crazy weights on the left-hand side.
What's the thing that looks like a vibrator, the red thing down there?
Oh, that's mine.
Oh, okay.
Comedy.
That's just a light from a – okay.
All right.
Can we go over to Bill Henninger's Instagram account?
Dan Guerrero, shut up and scribble in the house.
You want to talk some shit, Taylor?
About?
Just about how I stole your show.
No, dude, I'm here, dude.
I'm here because of that, but I'm here.
All right, okay.
Today I'm like, hey, let's do a show tonight, And Taylor's like, dude, we're doing that show tomorrow.
Katie Henneger on the hill.
That's cool.
What's the – that's really cool.
Really, really cool.
And for those of you who this is your first year around,
this hill is bigger and steeper than it looks.
That is finally a good rendition of it.
In this picture, it actually shows you how bad that hill is. Some of the really wide shots,
it doesn't look that steep, but it is nasty.
Mr. O'Keefe throwing haymakers at you in the comments. Wow. Did you respond
to that? Shut up, pussy.
Wow.
I didn't even see that.
Dude, respond right now, dude.
I didn't even see the comments.
Oh my goodness, Jeff.
Type this out. Eat a dong. No, don't type. No, no, no even see the comments. Oh, my goodness. That's awesome. What I meant to say.
Type this out.
Eat a dong.
No, don't type.
No, no, no, no, no.
I love Mr. O'Keefe.
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
So the last part of event one is probably going to include what Katie's doing right there.
Thank you.
Do you think they make it any different steeper or higher each year or just same
exact dimensions i think it's the same that hill that million dollar hill that they probably that
thing probably cost over a million dollars they're not changing it cost a million dollars to build
one bleacher and lay turf over at seven build it store it rebuild it blah weld it blah blah blah
insurance it's expensive it's more than you blah, blah, blah, blah, insurance.
It's expensive.
It's more than you think.
How much do you think it is?
I don't know.
Not a million dollars.
300 grand?
More than a house, dude?
You think that costs more than a house?
Get fucked.
No way.
I don't know, dude. The 20 employees that it took to make it?
How many employees did it take to build a fucking house? Their health insurance? I don't know dude The 20 employees that it took to make it How many employees did it take to build a fucking house
Their health insurance
I don't know
20k are you kidding me there's more than 20k in steel
I think it's more than 20k
But I don't think it's 300k
Mason Mitchell 1 trillion dollars
Thank you
Okay cool
So that's cool
What about
What's the bull
strong man it's a sled but it's cool that looks so fucking oh it's for strong man
who cares next hey what's more popular strong man or crossfit i heard someone say strong man
that one made me want to vomit
strong man's probably ah i don't know what do you guys think chase what do you think
what was that rogue thing do we need to see it or no
where that a-frame upper right hand corner yeah just rope climbs
yeah okay yeah okay all right and then let's go over.
Okay, fine.
Let's start the events, and then eventually we'll work our way over.
Finally, we'll finish the show with some rogue invitational Instagram perusing.
All right.
Honestly, CrossFit is.
I know.
I have to think CrossFit is, too.
Oh, Strongman.
Strongman.
Maybe we need a poll.
Yes. I feel like Strongman is more popular, like more generally known about.
I think more fans of CrossFit and CrossFitters
will enjoy and watch Strongman,
probably more than vice versa.
Right.
That's a good point.
I agree.
I think CrossFitters have bigger penises too, in general.
Really, dude?
Those guys are huge.
Just the size of person. I it's a buy i think your
dick's bigger than half thors no shot dude his dick is your size
especially that hat on
ken walters and a media department fine okay uh let us Let us go. Let's dig in.
Give me a big picture here, JR.
How many events over how many days
and what do we know?
Give me the high-level view if you can.
Four days.
One event on Thursday.
Okay.
Nine total.
Six have been announced.
Seven have been announced now at this point.
Two remaining.
And a lot of information, a lot of of unknowns though um there's a schedule here so they released texas heavy today
um seat at the bar and the circus we have we do not know what the dual three or the cleanup is
so event uh five uh the dual three and what was the other one we don't know
the finale nine okay and that's called and that's called the cleanup sure okay and um
what what are those events where they what's that called when um you whittle your way down from like
all the athletes what's that called when they do that?
So that's an elimination style event that they've done.
This would be the third year in a row.
And that's one of the ones we don't know.
There was the duel,
which was,
um,
Zeus pro heavy double unders,
squat snatches,
and a sandbag load to a pedestal.
And then last year was legless rope,
climb overhead,
squat sandbag here.
Okay.
So we're going to assume that saturday in the middle of the day
event five is uh when they say the duel it's another elimination event yeah you would imagine
so if we go a few years past probably um depending on what kind of uh how og you are maybe
a sprint chipper or a triplet whichever one you want to think about it and
probably some sort of rope whether it's a climbing rope or a jump rope possibly a horizontal
displacement type movement like a carry um maybe a wheelbarrow something where you're moving an
object from a to b that's just really exciting to watch. Okay, let's just start with five,
and then we'll skip over it on the way back since we started.
Chase, time domain for event five,
the individual heats, are the duels always under 60 seconds?
Yeah.
It's like a speed scene ladder, a speed snatch ladder.
It has to be fast.
There's an element of if you miss like an execution error you're out right it's not
hugely fitness based but it's execution based and yeah 30 to 60 seconds like power out of rounds
a lot of power uh taylor any any reason to get into the discussion of whether they're fair or
not because the guy who's out first has to do less work for the day uh typically at rogue it hasn't to me hasn't been an issue in terms like the movements programmed
in the volume of them i think there was an argument to be made for the dubai elimination
workout which was like biker and overhead squats where it was like a bit of volume for the for the
people that were advancing from round
to round.
But I don't think at Rogue it's been an issue.
I mean, year one, it was the heavy rope double unders, three squat snatches with 205 and
one sandbag load last year.
I can't remember the rep count of overhead squats, but it was at 135, right?
Was it like 10 or 15?
10.
Yeah, that's not a lot.
And year one, though, was the finale, which a lot of people would argue that's the best place to put something.
Exactly.
I love the dual.
And that was my next question.
How do you guys feel about the placement?
Where has it been placed?
So I was going to ask, is it always event number five?
No, it's not always event number five.
Why would they put it there?
Why don't they put it at the finale?
It's an exciting finale, right?
It looks like event number five is going to be Saturday afternoon.
You could imagine that's probably going to be when the stadium's the most crowded yeah i remember last
year when we were there um there was a ton of people there to watch that like there felt like
there were more people in the stands watching that than there were even maybe watching the log
one rep max queen of press so we're no complaints we like this event i'm excited about it it's one of the
things i'm most excited about about rogue i love this man do you guys have any issues with this
this one no i'm just excited to see what it is i mean there's there's there's some some movements
that we're waiting on that historically rogue programs um like i said i mean possibly a jump rope i i think it's going to be a thruster this time
we still need a fast lighter squat maybe a moderate load squat there's only 15 back squats
that have been released so far do you want that in the dual though what about a hang cluster or a hang
squat clean i could see that that was the problem last year i would like to see i would like to see
like a thruster at 185 like in that sweet spot yeah in the in this in the duel or just at rogue
if they were going to put it in the duel i think it should be at least that heavy i i could see
them doing a hang squat clean or what would you think about a hang cluster i like that movement
for five reps what's a hang cluster a hang squat clean thruster like a five rep at 165 that just seems like a josh bridges
or chris spieler type of movement the only thing that the only thing i would push back on in a
movement like that based on the movements that we know is that there's already a lot of hinging
so you have 120 power snatches you have a one rat max deadlift
of some kind you're starting the workout carrying a ruck that's 100 pounds there's going to be a lot
of low back fatigue even after that one dude that's my you still have those you still have
those fat bells which is essentially like a double snatch like a double kettlebell snatch without the
handle it's ground to overhead so you think they're going to clean and jerk it.
There's no fucking way.
I'm curious if they're allowed to stand wide
and bring them in between their legs.
What event are you guys referencing?
What are you referencing?
The fat bell is at four.
Hold on.
Event seven.
Hold on. We'll get to that.
Event five. Exciting. uh if you there's one
you're not gonna miss that's the one um they uh last year there were some uh hiccups with it
i can't remember exactly what happened i think it was last year but rogue remedy it fantastically
well i didn't even mind how long it took to pull that one off last year i did not mind that at all
i loved the camera work but there was like an athlete that got pushed out who shouldn't have been pushed out and they let her go by herself or something. And I thought that was cool too. And Alexis Raptus a plug They've just released a video It's called the most cringe video we've ever made You have to see it
Kudos to Alexis Raptus for leaning into
Her issues for why she had to pull out a rogue
She's a wonderful
She's a wonderful human being
Okay event number one
Nine events
Anything else you want to say
Before we dig into this
Is rogue
Obligated to do something heavy?
By obligated, I use the word loosely.
I know they're not obligated to anyone,
but do they traditionally cover a wide range of time domains?
We know they cover a wide range of modalities.
Is there anything that you'd like to say about Rogue in general?
People typically view it as the heavy event, the heavy test, or the heavy competition.
I think so far, seeing the workouts, there's a lot of load.
But I love it.
It just looks so fucking awesome.
What do you mean?
So they're staying true to that.
They take pride in that.
They know that.
And you're saying there's validity to it for sure it's hard to look at
these workouts and say it's not but at the same time there's so much challenging gymnastics that
it's hard to be upset about it either i like i'm not looking at him being like oh this is
you know so big guy strong strong man, whatever bias.
There's fucking 80 handstand push-ups in a workout.
That's a lot of handstand push-ups, dude.
I'm not saying it's the heavy event and it's crazy biased.
There are 10 pegboards, 80 handstand push-ups,
however many fat bar muscle-ups.
There's a lot of hard shit the killer cage uh okay this i i didn't see this workout this is fucking crazy this is what um this is the
coolest workout ever in berkeley where i went to school um uh or i didn't go to school there
in berkeley where i grew up uh the asian kids were required to ruck 80 pounds of books back and forth from the age of five.
It was crazy.
Dude, Asian book ruck? That should be an event.
You should have a competition, the Asian book ruck.
Smartest kids in the school, my goodness.
Okay, is this for real, a one-mile ruck?
The dudes are going to run a mile with 100 pounds in their back?
Talk to me about this, Chase.
Do they have to take do
will they take that off you think there's dudes who will keep 100 pounds for an entire month really
yeah it's just a mile i remember back in the day at craig howard's gym in 2008
there was an event i don't know what it was called but it was like some sort of
test and it was carry a body weight bag for a mile without
putting it down do you guys remember that test i've done that what is that test called it's
something i don't know what it's called i've just done the mile sandbag carry with the 200
and did you put it down like four times yeah there's one um uh thoughts on this uh do we
know anything about a time domain do people people do this? Is this over-programmed? This looks insane to me.
I don't even understand this.
Oh, so you ruck a mile with that
then you go to a lighter ruck?
Yeah.
Or you just unload it like they did
at the games.
For people who are listening, this is called Event 1, Texas Heavy.
One mile ruck with 100 pounds.
Then an 800 meter ruck, half a mile with 45 pounds.
And then a one mile rock with a hundred pounds, then an 800 meter rock half a mile with 45 pounds and then a one mile run
with,
uh,
nothing.
And then a sled bag pool to finish of 125 pounds.
Is that up the hill?
I would imagine that's up the hill.
I'd take a picture that bill posted.
Yeah.
I would imagine like 33 minutes on the fast end and like 40,
just over 40 on the slow.
I feel,
uh, chase, uh, your first thoughts when you see this sucker, what are you thinking? imagine like 33 minutes on the fast end and like 40 just over 40 on the slow i feel uh chase uh
your first thoughts when you see this sucker what are you thinking it's uh how they like to start
this event i like the rock i'm curious if it's everyone's wearing a 45 and 30 pound ruck which
is pretty traditional for rucking and they have an additional sandbag they might be carrying on top of that.
You know what I would like to see is for them to wear one of those fucking exo-type things with the weight plate on the back.
Oh, Josh has one of those. He loves it.
I know. That's why I want to see it.
I want to see them use that in an event. I think it would be super cool.
I like it. It's long. You start things off in a –
I like the progressive lighter loads for the ruck.
These will all be somewhat like
they'll all be runs
and then you get lighter and you half it and then you
drop the weight and then you got a clean mile
to get to that
sled bag pull.
I like it. It's going to be a fun. I'm curious where
the ruck and runs are going to be
because if it's a stadium
and people get to see this, is it just going to be because if it's a stadium and people get to see this is
it just going to be within the stadium as they do it like two laps one lap two laps and pull it up
the hill jr have you ever seen anything like this at an event at across no no i mean the closest
thing to it i would guess would be the ruck from 2019.
In the CrossFit Games?
Sure.
Yeah, but even that didn't end.
My question is, how far is the last part?
Is it just at the bottom of the hill and they're dragging it up?
Is it like at the beginning of the grid and they're going to drag it flat through the monkey bars under Zeus all the way like i would love to know how fast how long that is because even in a workout that's 30 plus minutes you may have a group of five a group of 10 that are all within a minute and like we've seen in the past on workouts at the games workouts at semi-finals
that have a sled pull push variety sometimes those minute leads can just evaporate on something like that
if they're just not able to move it.
And that's really just a mass moves mass type thing.
The load doesn't look crazy.
So 125, 100 doesn't look like it will be super difficult.
But up a hill, I mean, that's nasty.
Do you think someone's going to do that one-mile ruck
with the 100 pounds in under 15 minutes?
No, not under 15. No? I don't think i don't think under 15 oh okay i think so i've done okay
this is i haven't seen like a major cross competition do this but i've done a local
comp that had a 5k run everybody had to run where a 30 pound pack and then as a team carry a hundred pound bag
and we couldn't carry it as a trio or or like the four of us so i just carried it myself for the
last two miles and how long is that crazy but i guess it i guess it depends on what like you said
what they're carrying is it just a hundred pound backpack or is it like a 45 pound ruck and a 65
pound sand i don't know i think on the back
would make it tougher if you couldn't have a load on top of your shoulders that's it's four miles
per hour think of it on treadmill four miles per hour would be 15 minutes with 100 on your back
yeah i mean that's all right maybe i'm crazy i don't think so i don't think you're crazy i think
people are underestimating has anyone here ever won a hundred pound ruck these also are the one
mile it is people in the world.
I agree.
I agree.
I'm trying to compare it to my one-mile with a 200, and that was like 29.
But was it like you had to carry it on your shoulder?
It was a sandbag like that.
Yeah.
So this is going to be a pack at minimum.
At the minimum, it's going to be a 45- and 30-pound pack.
It's clipped in the chest.
It's clipped across the weight.
Maybe they have an additional loading on the back. It's going to be easier than that, which you did. Like what you did
was incredibly heavy and awkward to carry for that amount of time. I feel like whatever this setup
would be easier than what you did. But do you think they try to go under 15 minutes with everything
that comes after it? I don't know. I think it's set up. It's set up so that you can build speed.
Yeah.
I think this is a cool workout because it is so reliant on psychological tolerance.
For sure.
It is 100% who wants to hurt.
Alex Bridgeforth, Army Standard is 15-minute mile.
They'll all be under 15, not with a 100-pound ruck, dude.
Yeah, Army Standard with a 100-pound ruck.
You're talking about a 20-pound ruck.
All these fat kids joining the Army nowadays okay here we go look at uh bailey
domena a go rucks website the long range ruck says you can fit a 45 pound plus a 30 pound plate
plus more room for sandbags inside the main compartment seems like too much stuff to deal
with in the middle of an event right i would have been dropping a bag that's what i felt like
i felt like to me they would have a 45 pound ruck on and a 65 pound bag or a 55 pound bag
jay hartle the armenian done 24 miles with 100 pounds hey dude your feet must have been like
destroyed insane destroyed like they have those long go rruck sandbags that are like feed sacks. We have a bunch of them at our gym, and they have ones that can weigh 65 pounds.
So I would be – to me it would be easy if they just wore the ruck that they're going to wear for the 800,
and they had a sandbag on top of it, like a long one.
But I don't know.
They did that in West Coast, didn't they, in Vegas?
Right, the West Coast Classic. That's exactly how they did it. They had a ruck and a bag.
We just got a link. Let me see what this is in real time.
It says 2019 Rogue Invitational Go Ruck Livestream.
That was just a bag, I believe.
That was just a Bag I believe
And we're hearing that
It was 125 pounds plus 30
And they lightly jogged for the most part
Oh yeah and was that a team
There's no fucking way they carried that
With a light jog
Alright anything else you guys want to add
To this incredible event
I guess that mile without anything
Is the recovery mile, right?
Oh, wow.
Look at these boys.
Oh, yeah.
That's how the 200 was for me.
So are you saying that's 155 pounds right there that those guys have on them?
155?
No, 125.
Well, they're wearing a 30-pack.
Oh, wow.
Yeah, yeah.
Let me see that. Play a little bit of that i don't think
rogue's gonna fuck with us if we play it oh is that saxon he looks like he's hurting and so this
was for 400 meters wow that's faster than i thought that's incredible is that fraser yep
wow yeah but that's 400 meters a whole lot different than a mile i agree anyone want to
change anyone want to change their uh position what's the fastest what's the fastest chase
probably under 15 you're right yeah well 12 that's what i would think fastest but i don't
think they're winning i don't know man oh that was a smooth move that he threw it right down right in front of Matt,
by the way.
I like that.
Oh, that was Hoagberg.
It's 155 total.
This is 100 total.
It's a big difference.
And every time you put it down, you got to pick it up.
That's heinous.
Oh, he's an idiot.
And that mag is just a beast.
Like I said, Taylor, was that close to your bag?
I mean, we had a standard 200-pound strongman bag filled with sand to the brim so it's the kind of shaped like that
a little shorter yeah just yeah super awkward laying it long ways across the back
okay uh anything you guys want to add to this awesome workout i mean they're they're definitely
gonna be feeling it all weekend so that kind of sets the tone, right?
That's going to clap butt cheeks.
What I will say, though, which is cool, if they carried on their back, fine.
They go into back squats, fine.
It's only 15.
The workout is going to be on the log.
And while they're going to feel that weight, like the 375 is going to feel probably like the 405 did last year after this workout on Thursday night.
Josh and Dan and Katie are mindful about the low backs. If you look at the next two to three
workouts until we get to the power snatch, there isn't any hinging. So like, that's something for
me that I look for when you look at program design is are we going from like a muscle group
that's getting just obliterated to more and more and more of that but it doesn't seem like it
there's a lot of like upper body pulling there's a lot of gymnastics coming after this
event number midline is going to be freaking smoked yeah their midline's fucked after the
15 heavy back squats.
And then day two, I don't know.
Even before the back squats.
Right, right.
That's what I'm saying.
But then 120 calories on the skier, that's not going to make it easier on their midline.
Neither is.
Come on, man.
We're not going to talk about ski fatiguing.
And then they have 120 power snatches the next day.
Ladies and gentlemen, Friday will be event two.
It will begin at, I believe, 11 a.m.
You'll be here at 10 a.m. already with J.R. Taylor and John Young and myself.
And then right after that, you'll watch event two.
That'll be at 11 a.m. Pacific Standard Time.
It's called Seat at the Bar for Time, a 25, 15, 10 log muscle up,
and then five back squats at 375.
So what do you do?
You do 20 bar muscle ups and then five back squats at 375,
then 15, then five, then 10 and five.
Yeah.
I love this so much.
We're going to look how happy you are.
I've never seen you this happy.
Dude, this is the happiest I've ever seen you.
Katie's like, this is a showcase for the athletes.
Programming comes out.
What's harder than the games?
This is going to be same as last year where the athletes are like,
I was more sore after day one of the Invitational than I was at the whole game.
People are going to say the same fucking thing, and I love it.
I fucking love this.
JR, how many athletes do not finish the back squats, get stopped by this back squat in the men's category?
Zero.
And how many in the women?
Zero.
Zero. So they all can do it, but since we don't know the time cap, but you're saying that at some point they can all do it, that those weights are doable.
Definitely. And it's something we should take note of.
And a lot of people see it and they remember last year's programming so they can tell oh yeah it's a little bit lighter than
back attack was you know that was at what 405 to 75 to 85 maybe um and this is 15 reps this is lighter
you're basically doing 35 if you're a man bar muscle ups with like a 30 second back squat in
between the set of 20 and the set of 15 is basically like doing a set of 35 with 30 seconds
rest after the first 20 so when people look at this workout i'm not falling why do you say that
because it it really is going to come down to just how you manage the fatigue on
the bar muscle up last year we saw the log bar muscle up with inner a lot more interfering
movements right it was like an up and back chipper so it was bar muscle up ski ghd ski bar muscle up
so there's a lot going on there that's going to affect the bar muscle up. Here, not as much.
So you really can see, like, if there are people that want to take chances,
you know, like someone like Noah, I think, opened up last year
with a huge set on the log bar muscle ups.
You're going to have the opportunity to do that,
but just know that you're doing 35, like, with literally 30 seconds
maybe in between with the transition.
And then you're right back on the round of 15.
Chase, so if my understanding jr correctly he's saying the back squats have to be done unbroken and you're basically resting during the back squats to get ready for the muscle ups
yes and that there's not a the race isn't on the back squats yeah so if that's the if that's the
i think that's that's i think since we saw the, if I think that's, that's, I think since we saw the log
and we saw the heavy squats, everyone's like, oh, they're lighter, but they're heavy.
So like who can do the squats and Jr freaking nailed it.
Like everyone's getting distracted by that.
And they have no idea that it's the volume on the bar, the log four inch thick log with
no breaks.
So does it even make sense to do the back squats unbroken if you don't
have to if it's that much about the bar muscle ups why i would say if you could casually do it
if you can casually do it for sure because like think think about like unracking re-racking
like that in and of itself is a lot of effort yeah the step forward the step backward
and just like the bracing and then the the lowering and you get in a weird position.
Time it takes.
If you remember last year, you know, we saw the same number of log bar muscle ups for the females that we saw for the males.
We saw several males finish.
We saw no females actually finish the entire workout.
I think Emma Lawson finished the 20th, but she didn't
cross the finish line. So it still showed cat plus one. And a lot of us were wondering, Hey,
should the calories on the ski have been adjusted more? So should the number of reps on the bar
muscle ups have been adjusted more? So, and look at what we have this year. Like they pay attention,
right? 45, 30 huge difference, but the stimulus will probably be on point and the
times will probably be really close hey a question for you do you have to brace the back before
squatting bracing the upper back is smart yes uh with like a rebar or what you have to brace that
back before you get collapsed randambler. What is this guy talking about, dude?
Get out.
Before I ask you guys what the fastest time is on this,
significance of the bar.
What's the history of this bar, this four-inch bar?
What's the history of it and what's the significance of it?
Do you remember, Chase?
I just used it last year as a wrinkle.
A new Rogue equipment element that they haven't really had the previous,
I think, two years of the games,
but they decided to do their own thing at the Rogue Invitational,
which I thought was great.
But not available on their website still, right?
Showed up last year at Rogue and then vanishes.
It's one of many things that they only make for competition
that you just can't buy anymore. The pig one of them this is one of them there's a few elements that they have
just for competitions that no one can buy like a glass bag board a rambler i love i got those at
my house uh rambler i love you buddy by the way i'm just messing with you just saying i love you
and i asked all sorts of dumb questions it's fine totally fine uh why don't they release it jr why don't they release
it you should be able to just release a bar that's like a four inch bar or that looks like a piece of
faux wood no faux wood that switch that hooks into a rig i love they don't do it i think it's genius
all right yeah i think it's great that you have some exclusive things that you you can't do unless
you're there and it just kind of adds to the prestige. Last year, we saw a lot of people not really be able to use their standard kip.
So that's something to look out for. The nature of this log is going to make people tighten up
the kip, make it feel more strict than it really is. You're probably not going to be able to get
as long in your arch position as you normally would. Also hand size really does come into play. Like that's just,
just one of those things. Like if you happen to have bigger hands, you might not feel the
grip fatigue as fast as someone else does. Hey, how significant is that? Can you give
me a percentage? Like if that was just a regular bar that everyone's using, is this 20% harder with
the foreign bar, 30% harder?
I don't know.
Taylor, you've done yoke bar muscle-ups before?
A ton.
That's what?
What do you think the diameter on that is?
Pretty close.
Pretty close.
It's probably like three and a half, four inches.
Three?
Okay.
See, I've never done them.
So, I mean, that's something to ask Taylor.
Like if you could do 30 unbroken relatively easily,
what do you think a max set on a, on a, on a yoke bar would be?
I feel like I could probably get away with like 17 grinding for it. And I can definitely do more
than 30 on the bar. So it's, it's a lot harder. Two times almost?
Yeah, probably almost two times harder per rep.
Like one regular muscle-up is probably – or two regular bar muscle-ups is probably one.
Yeah, so it would be interesting to see like who opts for really, really disciplined quick sets of like, hey, I'm just doing fours the whole time.
I don't care what anyone else is doing because when I get to the 10, if I'm feeling it, I can knock that out in two sets. Or if people are going to be like, Hey, the fatigue is going to come regardless.
So I'm just going to open up big while I'm fresh and then deal with the consequences.
Like, I think you'll see a lot of different strategies.
Will that stop anyone? We'll, we'll just didn't it for last year last year stop some people just straighten their tracks?
Weren't there some girls who just couldn't do it?
Yeah. The yoke is
three inches.
So this is what? Four, they said? Or three and a half?
Four.
I don't think that's that much of a difference.
The one inch. Like three inches
and four inches
versus three inches and what is the diameter
of a regular bar inch and a quarter
yeah i think one 1.25 yeah that's a huge difference so that's like 200 percent
go ahead go ahead i was gonna say just just look at the field and look and see who was here last
year it's a lot of the same faces but some haven't and even if you've only done one workout on it
that's a huge advantage because everyone else has done none.
Who won these events last year?
Do you guys remember the bar muscle-up?
I'm pretty sure it was Justin, unless I'm remembering incorrectly.
I want to say him and Pat had a really good race.
I thought Chandler did really well in the workout.
Chandler, too.
What was it?
Was it a couplet also?
It was like an up-and-back triplet-type chipper thing with SkiErg and GHC sit-ups. well in the workout. Chandler too. What was it? Was it a couplet also?
It was like an up and back triplet type chipper thing
with SkiErg and GHC sit-ups.
Fastest time for this,
gentlemen?
I want to say six minutes.
Is that aggressive?
You 45R muscle-ups in six minutes with this?
I was thinking seven, just generally, like a sub-seven time.
That's what I said, in the six minutes.
No, no, you said six minutes.
This is something I don't even feel like confident even yeah this is one of those
once you see it happen you're like damn these i think four minutes for the muscle ups for the
for the best men and two minutes for 15 back squats it's i guess the transition length depends
but so 11 emom on that bar that's nasty dude that's, dude. That's hard. Dude, it's –
That's 44.
Right, but it's fast.
Yeah.
I don't know.
Interesting comment here.
Sean Cunningham and Katie did address this when she was on the show
that they have some contingent plans in place if weather does get wild.
Sean says, rain in the forecast on Friday.
How would that impact the strategies
uh yeah that would be i'm guessing that wood is sanded down and would be very very slippery
if pine tar and don't be a pussy that's right i hear you dude uh okay before we go on to event
number three let's take a small break and answer some personal questions completely off subject
uh mr howell uh do you plan on getting back
in the Masters competition
now that the field will be much bigger?
Stop talking about Rogue and talk about this.
Can we get 10 seconds of your personal life?
He wants to know if,
since the field's going to be a lot bigger,
I think I actually have a chance
to go back to the games.
So he's taking a dig at you?
Sure.
Yeah, I'm not planning on competing at all.
Ever again, dude?
We'll see.
I want to see you in 65 plus in a couple years.
And by a couple, I mean like 20, 30.
I thought of something kind of like a strange goal.
What if like my goal was just to be the oldest person to ever compete at the CrossFit?
Oh, yeah, that's kind of cool.
Hey, I'm reading what Rakesh is saying,
and I don't think anyone – no one wraps their thumb underneath, right?
Everyone does false grip, right?
Yeah, everyone pretty much has to.
So no one will put their thumb under it, Rakesh.
Instead of a full wraparound grip, they might opt for more.
Yeah, every single person that I can imagine is basically going to try to shorten the lever as much as they can
and get the wood as far back on their wrist as possible.
That full reach-around grip?
Yeah.
Is that accurate?
I don't remember what they did last year, but it only makes sense to me.
It's going to be so thick.
No one's putting their thumb around unless they want to fall off the bar.
All right, cool.
Or unless you're that guy who's playing in the NBA now.
The 7'4 dude.
It looks so gross watching him play.
You would hate to see me naked.
I'm here before Chris.
He has the same body dimensions.
He looks like a spider.
It's crazy.
Event number three. 2023 Rogue Invitational.
This is the official event critique.
Three rounds for time, 40 cows.
By the way, I'm only reading off the dudes, by the way.
Three rounds, 40 cows on the SkiErg.
A five single arm strongman dumbbell shoulder to overhead, 100 pounds, killer cage,
down and back.
So you skier 40,
you do single arm,
strongman, dumbbell, shoulder.
Five on the right, five on the left.
Oh.
Really?
Yeah.
Why do you say that?
Why do you say that?
Thank you.
So what do you do? Do you think you pull that off the says five a side. Oh, it's fine. Where do you see that? Thank you. Oh, it's fine.
Okay.
So what do you do?
Do you think you pull that off the ground?
You snatch that off the ground?
You probably clean it to the shoulder with two hands.
Like you probably grab it with two hands, pull it to the shoulder, release one hand, overhead, bring it back to the overhead, switch, take it back to the hang or take it back to the ground, pull it back to the shoulder.
Five.
Okay. to the hang or take it back to the ground pull it back to the shoulder five okay and these are
some unknown details like you know on katie's instagram we saw that style of circus dumbbell
really old school but then also too they're loadable circus dumbbells that are really thick
in the grip it would make a lot of sense with these movements killer cage skier to tax the
grip even more but like what kind of straw man dumbbell is it
that those are some details we don't have yet that i think that could really affect
like the workout as a whole i would imagine this isn't that just unfair to put anatomics so much
as part of the event for what is that is that a word? Anatomics?
Fair is a place where the judge picks.
I know. I hate the word too.
You're talking about the wrong sport.
Well,
okay.
It doesn't say
circus dumbbell.
In the other event, it says fat bell.
The fat bell
initially made me think circus dumbbell with the fat grip.
But now I think fat bell might just mean those knurled dumbbells with the fat bells on the end.
I sent a picture of what I think it actually is.
There's something on the road.
You think this is the loadable one?
No, no.
Oh, is that what you sent me earlier today, JR?
No, but we can wait until we get to that workout to pull it up.
But I think I know what the actual fat goals are.
These are going to be sear bells.
Something you can buy on Rogue.

These ones?
No, I'm talking about the other ones.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I think you're right too.
Mel's asking, what is the killer cage?
And I do believe we have a photo of that great yeah we got that one on there let's
pull that up um caleb i can pull it up for you if you want i just sent it to you last minute i
apologize i sent it to caleb earlier today oh look at you it's like monkey monkey bars now
so you think the fat bell event is the seer bell the cyr bell no i think this is this is the seer bell with the skinny
like regular dumbbell grip or maybe even like a barbell grip right is that the cage from last year
that's longer no no and this this actually looks like i tried to count the rungs but it looks like
the same dimensions as the original killer cage which was like 24 25 rungs they said it was 50 feet down 50
feet back do you think this is the same exact rig you're saying the one that was in madison uh in
carson 25 it wasn't red it was uh it was they were all it was all black last year was tan
and shorter the one in carson was more than two lanes. That's just two lanes.
What do you mean it's the same dimensions as the one in Carson?
No, they're building it. I think Bill actually posted a picture from the front or the back view,
maybe on his story.
I'll check real quick, Caleb.
Let's see.
Oh, okay.
I see it.
It is on his story.
It's 2011, Mason, not 2010.
It is on his story.
All right.
So you're saying the one last year
was longer, significantly longer.
One last year was really short.
Oh, man.
Wasn't the one last year longer than
the one in Carson? No? No, it was shorter.
It was only like maybe 10
bars.
Oh, the fat bell, the kettlebell thing
that you put your hand into?
A.K.A. Hulk hands. I thing that you put your hand into yeah aka hulk hands and you think they're gonna be oh i thought that you're gonna be a mega man and you think they're gonna
be and you think they're gonna use two yeah yeah so if we can if we can go back to that if we can
go back to that other picture of the monkey bars i want caleb to zoom in on something real quick
because my uh my over overly analytical brain like can't really help
myself so if we if we zoom in and you see that the bars are attached on top of the rig they're
not bolted into the rig this looks a lot like bars that rotate so if we pull up a picture that
i sent to caleb it would be really really It would be really, really cool if the bars rotated because it looks like these
bars will rotate.
And this is about as OG as you
can get. Oh, wow. Wow.
Go back to that other picture.
You're obsessed with the rotating bar.
He hasn't done a bar yet.
Go back.
This would make JR squirt in his
britches, dude. No, it would
just add another grip element.
When you do monkey bars, I do have some at my house that are outdoor.
And when you are going across, it just kind of catches you by surprise to have the bar rotate.
It's just kind of a weird sensation.
Damn, man.
I don't know. Maybe I'm just reading too much into it.
But it looks like those are attached on top so that they can spin.
How certain are you that you're right on this, JR?
I'm not certain at all. I just zoomed in on the picture and was like, huh, those look like the little things from the journal that I found.
And they wouldn't just set those up there before they're attached and like they're waiting to be attached.
Maybe. Yeah, I don't know. It and like they're waiting to be attached. Maybe.
Yeah, I don't know.
It just doesn't –
That would be dangerous.
They'd fall on someone's head or something.
Look at how perfectly spaced they are.
They just set them up there like that.
They're bolted in.
Wow, incredible.
JR, have you ever played with one of those?
Yeah, I mean the one I have at my house outside, all the bars spin like that.
But it ain't like that.
The bars at his house are
just like a band clamp going over them and they're just sitting on wood but how much harder is it
what what are the implications is it like significantly significantly harder especially
if you're switching from bar to bar to bar uh it would just fatigue the grip more like we went to
we went to a fair with the kids last weekend and there was a booth that
was hang for two minutes win a hundred bucks and i went over to look at the bar and it was a bar
that just continuously spun and i was just like that's why no one's gonna win that today you can't
get your grip on top of the bar so you're holding with just you don't think you could hang for two
minutes on a spinny bar from your fingers not. Not on the ones I had at that fair.
On these, I could.
Really?
Yeah.
I want to go to that fair and fuck them up.
Okay, let's go back.
Caleb, can we go back and look at the actual workout?
So, skier, we all know what that is that's just pulling those strings
and then and then are you guys saying that the dumbbell shoulder to overhead also could might
be those bells it was kind of i think it's on katie's instagram okay and that's one where you
put and what are the implications of that versus a dumbbell anything i think it's going to be a
skinnier gripped handle okay but the way it's evenly distributed on each end so i
don't think it's an issue it just it'll just feel a little bit different um and you'll have to put
it down right before you uh before you switch as opposed to as a dumbbell you could switch
because you're not going to be sticking your hand in there probably and switching
no this is not the fat bell that you're talking about this is the cyr bell
oh those those steel ones that are all polished
and shit.
Okay.
Anything else about this?
Anything else?
In the time domains, just roughly, is this one of the
longer events?
No, this is like 9
to 11.
Okay.
Going back to event one, that's
a traditional start for Rogue run run the guys yeah
is it traditional this is year five this is year five yeah i guess they had a rough thing in 2019
they didn't do it in 2020 last year was a rock they had a rock that wasn, the, in 2021, it was a rock.
It was a rock,
but it was like CrossFit.
It was over unders.
Yeah.
It was a rope climb.
And then the online year,
I can't remember what they did for the first workout.
I think it was like that thruster ladder,
not a thruster ladder,
but ascending weighted thrusters pull-ups.
Yeah.
I think you're right on that. Burpee pull-ups. Yeah, I think you're right on that.
Burpee pull-ups?
Yeah, it was burpee pull-up.
All righty. I guess this is more traditional.
Three out of the four.
Suze is going live from CrossFit Livermore's.
I think that they do a nutritional challenge.
He might have gone live with it.
Yes, I agree, Katie.
Treason.
I'm almost tempted to go over there, but we don't have time to fool around.
Okay, event four, 10th inning.
Isn't the baseball game only nine innings?
Extra innings.
Okay, yeah.
Traditionally nine innings.
All right, 10th inning, 10 rounds.
I love a 10-round workout.
Four ring muscle-ups, eight handstand push-ups,
12 power snatches, 95 and 65 it's rogues nate is this the first year
they do a kipping parallette handstand push-up i don't like i was the only thing i was questioning
on this is is it strict and if it is is it wall facing since they did that in the qualifier
that's the only thing i was kind of trying to figure out it's already very dense i mean geez 80s a lot the 12 snatches is just
gonna get nasty too and they have a history of like sneaking in those light power snatches for
lots and lots of reps the death by year yeah i feel like this i feel like in this workout the
12 power snatch is the hardest part and i feel like with the combination of the muscle-up and the handstand push-up, that is sneakily going to fuck your back up.
What about anything that they'll try to sneak in in regards to the rings,
maybe a thicker ring, anything like that?
You don't need to get cute.
40 is enough.
Last year was 49.
I mean, traditionally when they program ring muscle,
I think they did Amanda one year, but outside of that,
typically the ring muscle- ups are very volume heavy.
Have you ever done a wall – JR, have you ever been doing like a lot or a workout with a lot of volume of wall facing and your mid back starts to cramp?
No, but I can't stay up there long enough for that to happen.
I'm really bad at it. That was me on regular.
No, but I can't stay up there long enough for that to happen.
I'm really bad at it.
That was me on regular hands. Because I'm just thinking of that feeling.
I had a workout Monday where that happened,
and I'm like that with that many power snatches,
the midline would just after the day before.
I don't know.
They might just be kipping,
but I don't think Roke has ever programmed a kipping handstand pushup,
period, of any kind ever.
I would think regular strict or strict wall facing.
And I would love strict wall facing because I think most of these guys can go for sets of eight pretty consistently.
How many athletes – 20 athletes?
20, yep.
20 men, 21. Okay.
Anything else you guys want to add to this before we move to five and we'll go through five really quick?
Five is the duel.
It's on Friday.
Is it Friday, midday?
Saturday, midday.
Sorry, Saturday, midday in between four and six.
We are going to assume that it's an elimination like the previous years.
I'm guessing heats of four with five heats to start with?
Or what do you guys think?
Heats of five with four rounds?
Any thoughts on how they'll do it?
I'd say five.
Probably five with four rounds.
What if they did this?
Oh, never mind.
Do you guys think the top five should skip the first round
like they've done the last two years?
Oh, they have done that?
Yeah.
I like that.
I like it too.
You like that?
Explain that to me, Chase.
How does that work?
Top five, they've been giving him a pass to the second round.
So after four events, the top five people don't have to do this.
Right.
The first round of this.
Wow.
Wow.
Why don't you like it?
Just have them all do it.
Like, why give them a pass?
I don't think it's that helpful.
Well, now that you mention it, I actually –
You're going to compete against everybody who got to do it once.
Actually, I think it maybe does hurt them.
Yes, I think maybe it does hurt them.
Yeah, we talked about that last year, how it might even have been a disadvantage.
It's an interesting conversation in general, though though because the argument for not doing
this in the middle of the competition is why punish the fitter people by making them do more work
it's not a lot yeah i mean if it's anything like it has been in the past
even if you do five rounds of it you're probably not doing more than what 50 reps of anything
well it does balance that out by the way if you're assuming that the people who are winning in the first four yeah i like that it negates it but but i do really think that last
year it was a disadvantage to miss the first round i don't remember what the workout was but i remember
all of us were like oh shit this isn't good they didn't get practice at some of these movements
it was something unique right what were there was some the legless who's over at school i think it
was worse for the uh the first year yes because a lot of people miss those snatches.
To a pedestal?
Yeah, the pedestal one.
Why are we...
Let them all compete.
But we also don't know if they get a chance to practice
with it in the back, because if they get a chance to practice with it
in the back...
Do you think...
How would you feel about them
starting each
interval of this
with like a really short echo bike, as opposed to a jump rope or like a legless rope climb? Do you
think that takes too much? You already have echo bike. I was thinking about that already echo.
Yeah. So they've already got echo and ski. Like I was thinking though, that this type of workout,
like starting with a machine really fits. i want to see next year them start with
like a 12 9 cal echo or even a 9 6 that's something super short you don't have rowers yet
one of the reasons why crash crucible is the premier event in the crossfit space is because
they don't use any dumb ass machines this year they didn't i would like him to do the to use
movements bro you you idiot. What?
They skied.
First workout had a machine.
Your favorite skier.
Yeah, your least favorite.
Oh, I apologize.
Forget it.
Crash Crucible sucks.
Sorry, my bad.
Go continue, gentlemen.
Use movements that are not judge-dependent.
Row, and I think this is the perfect time to end on a handstand walk
because they've never programmed it at row.
That would be cool.
So row, something in the middle.
Maybe it's dumbbell snatches,
but they're going ground overhead already after that.
So it could be thrusters, as JR was saying.
Maybe then you get in that weird squat thing.
I don't know.
What about row?
What about just like a 225 front squat where you can't squat it that fast?
Like you just can't squat it that fast.
With the 375 back squats though?
That being 15 reps, there's going to be another squat heavy workout coming,
like reps-wise.
There's going to be one somewhere, maybe two.
I feel like it would be really cool for them to start with like a heavy rope again or a row
and then handstand walk to an implement
like a heavy barbell and do like a cluster
they had clusters
in the qualifier or five clusters
I don't know fuck
I think I heard John say last night he would still expect to see
Legos rope climb but with pegboard I just don't know
I don't see that either
where did you hear John talking about this last night
we don't ever listen to him.
On the show you did with him.
Mike, the outdoor dog, Halpin.
I believe both of the winners of Duel 2 had the round one buy.
Fair enough.
Okay, let's move to six, and then we'll come back to this.
Was that Guy and Justin?
Yes.
Only Halpin knows.
I do like, by the way, I do like what Chase said regarding let's use something that doesn't require judging.
I've never heard it actually described like that.
I like that.
I just had a stroke. I'm going to someone tell my wife do you remember that judge last year
who was just fucking crazy she was on her bullshit no oh lane five the link yeah she's like no rep
hillary made the video and you could just hear going no no please have her dear bill and katie
please have her again she added a lot of drama to the uh theit show. Danny, $4.99 for JR's eagle eye.
Okay.
Event six, max deadlift.
JR, just let us have it.
What the fuck does this mean?
This is too dangerous.
I mean, it's rogue.
They have so much cool things.
It's got to be like the wagon wheel or the tire or something.
It would just be awesome to watch.
And a lot of times with movements like that,
the wagon wheel, anything that decreases the range of motion,
you're going to get more load going up,
which would just be more fun.
What's the wagon wheel?
Is that you lift it up and you got to walk in a circle?
No, the diameter of the plates are just way higher.
So it almost puts it like puts it below the knee level.
I doubt many people competing here know what their one rep max pin pull is.
It would be cool to see what that is.
It's less range of motion, less from the floor to the mid shin, less spinal.
They did a clean and jerk on the long back. from the floor to the mid shin less less spinal you know left left spinal so yeah just like i feel like that's like it would just it would be and it would just be a
really cool show if taylor won't wear the wig i appreciate you pulling out the dude rambler is
ridiculous uh chase uh tell me uh max dead Deadlift, anything you want to speculate?
Jair's on it because this wouldn't be a rogue liftoff
if it was just a straight barbell, in my opinion.
Because I just said that last year they did a Wonder Max clean and jerk,
and then it comes out that it's with the log.
So I would like to see that. at wonder max cleaning jerk and then it comes out that it's with us with the log right so i would
like to see that and uh to jr's point is i think something like a wagon wheel or something with an
elevated platform whether it's the diameter of the plates or where they pull from would be a
i don't want to throw in safe because we're doing a competition but i think it would be better for
the athletes to do something from that position.
I heard safe.
Do we see an over 400 pound deadlift
in the female field?
Yeah.
I just asked that because
Rambler said the heaviest he'd ever seen a woman
deadlift was 315.
Watch the CrossFit Games more than once.
Gosh, come on, man.
What about just something just what
about just like a sandbag a sandbag deadlift yeah just like to waste no nothing like that no
what about what about a um trap bar i doubt it what's the name of that what what's the name of
that stone that has the hand that has the iron ring on it and you have to do it with one hand.
Guinea stone?
Guinea stone.
That sounds racist.
It's like a big boulder, but you can only pick it up with one hand. Guinea stones?
Denny, Denny, Denny.
Guinea stones.
Guinea stones.
Yeah, and the ring diameter is so narrow.
That's the hardest part because you're just –
It's like a fucking – it's like one of those things you put on your nose, dude.
Dinny Stones.
Sounds like something that you –
I think it's got to be some kind of barbell.
Sounds like a hemorrhoid.
Yeah, Dinny Stone.
Not a hemorrhoid I've ever had.
Dinny Stone.
All right.
Anything you guys – this one's going to be fun to watch for sure, 100%.
Oh, Thor's hammer deadlift.
And this will be someone's last event.
Mike Halpin, always with the most important information in the chat.
And Patrick Clark's not around.
Christine Kolenbrander did 382 for three in the last chance qualifier two years ago.
Tia did 415 in 2018 for the CF total.
Wow.
You think this is going to end
somebody's weekend?
are you one of those guys who's like deadlifting
heavy is bad
yeah yeah yeah
definitely
you got a weak back
weak back strong mind
yeah
oh my god I'm so old
and weak it's pathetic event 7 Hulk hands i don't know what that is but um
four time uh 30 calo uh on the echo bike 20 double fat bell ground to overhead 75 foot front rack
lunge to zeus with 135 i don't know why it needs to say to zeus but that's fine
uh run i don't know what that means yeah hill hill sled push 75 front rack lunge to zeus
oh maybe you run away from zeus a run 20 dumbbell uh 20 double fat bell 20 double fat bell, 20 double fat bell.
Does it seem like there's a typo in this?
Ground to overhead. Seems like the run is out of place.
Right?
The second run seems out of place.
Like I would imagine they start right by the pitcher's mound or home plate,
30 cal echo, move forward, 20 dumbbell fat or 20 whatever,
ground overhead. Then they pick the barbell up. What are fat or 20 whatever fat bell ground overhead.
Then they pick the barbell up.
What are fat bells?
The things you put your hands in?
You stick your hands in.
Yeah, that's why it's called Hulk hands.
It should be called Mega Man.
That's so fucking cool.
That's going to be – that's cool.
So they do those.
Then they pick up the barbell and they front rack lunge to the rig.
Then they run to the hill, then push the hill up.
Then they lunge back and then run. they run to the hill, then push the hill up, and then they lunge back
and then run? Seems like
a typo.
I think they use the axle bar
for the lunges again.
The Dave Castro.
Wow.
Dave,
what's up? Dave Castro.
The one rep max deadlift is a straight bar
conventional deadlift. I will be out on the field establishing the standards.
Well, thank you.
That's awesome.
And demoing the movement.
We're going to be there all day.
Yeah, what's the time cap?
Yeah, so again, like on the fat bell ground overhead, will it be anyhow?
Like, will you be able to clean and jerk them?
Will you have
to do like a double arm snatch yeah it says ground overhead that's so you grab two 70s at the same
time like two dumbbells yep two fat bells baby i've never seen that and i mean i mean i've just
never seen i had 80 pound devil's press with two dumbbells.
Oh, I've seen dumbbells, but I mean I've never seen fatbells.
I've never seen fatbells in operation.
And how you're putting your hand inside of it, putting you closer to the ground,
I mean talking about more like the hinging pattern, again,
that's just more range of motion to get down there.
Does CrossFit Crash own any fatbells?
I do not. that's a piece of
vigil says they're neat that's it a dear bill and katie can we send out a full set of fat bells to
uh me thank you thank you to uh crossfit uh crash a jr howell will uh do some some QR on them. QR or QA?
Something with a Q.
Anything you guys want to say about this workout?
Event seven, what is that?
That's the first workout for Sunday.
You do like this?
Cool workout.
Yeah, similar flow to the front rack lunge,
monkey bar, turtle hand-over-hand sled from last year. Do you guys think the dumbbells will be easier to handle?
The fatbells?
No, I think it'd
be uh i think like they're evenly balanced yeah so instead of like having to play with that back
and forth i think in that sense potentially a little easier but in the sense that it's more
range of motion like when you're doing dumbbell ground overhead yeah you especially if you're
tilting the dumbbell down and just tapping one head to the floor you're like milking every ounce of yeah that's like
we don't know or or i guess traditionally would have been one if you're doing dumbbells but yeah
depends i just want to know what that hill sled push is like people are saying they think it's
a typo no i think they're pushing a sled up up the hill no i don't know i hope it's a sled up the hill. I hope it's a sled.
I wanted this for the turtle last year
for them to figure out a way.
If you stop, it doesn't stop with you.
If you stop,
you have to sit there with it.
I don't want them to stop
and get their hands off and just
shake out their legs. It's just coming down
on them the whole time.
It should slide back. I agree.
What if it's just coming down on them the whole time. Yeah, it should slide back. I agree. What if it was just a plate?
Ooh.
Like just a 55-pound plate or a 100-pound plate?
Yeah, just like a plate push.
Fuck yeah.
Yeah, that'd be nasty.
They could just use this tarp thing I heard.
You just put one plate on it, and it has this nice...
Yeah, I've seen that.
It's tarp, and it slides easily.
Very easily. Just to reiterate, that second run looks misplaced correct oh yeah yeah it looks like it's supposed to be sled
push then run then lunge because i think the run is a transition run from the hill to the drink
right yeah zeus to the hill but if if this is how it is then i would be curious if it was a more significant run
not significant but like 200 400 what event is this seven the big the big letters uh big white
letters at the top and i know like taylor's uh can probably appreciate this a lot something i'm
always hesitant to do but you do get to see some
spectacles is like ending a workout on the machine from a stimulus standpoint there's nothing like it
but you're just everyone watching doesn't make it more exciting does it make it less exciting
but you're just waiting on a hand to go and i'm sure we'll see that like people sprinting on it
which will be fun i keep thinking savanson's that gay equipment manager for Longest Yard.
I am. What are you talking about?
I don't even know.
You know what I'm talking about?
The cheerleader with the do-rag?
Yeah, I'll take it.
Whatever, back freckle.
I always wanted to be a gay something.
Well, you made it.
Okay.
Thank you.
It wasn't what I was going for, but I was going for something.
Oh, yeah.
Which one is it?
Let's go.
Right there with the little top knot.
You got the top knot too, dude.
This is just a tie.
Dude, I'm 50% of the way to my identity.
Identity that I want.
Thank you.
I got to see that. Is that's a series is that the one that
matt fraser had a guest appearance on that's that's blue mountain state that's uh longest
yard with adam sandler great movie that's good okay so event seven we have some questions and
we are critiquing we think rogue has a typ. I find that very hard to believe. We will report back to you shortly.
Well, I mean, on event one, when it was first announced,
it was only five pounds difference for the sandbag at the end,
and it's been changed now to 125-100.
Okay.
Yeah, Brian pointed it out.
He was just like, only five pounds difference for the females on the drag, on the sandbag drag.
So, I mean, that was just a small typo.
They fixed it.
On which event was that?
Sorry, I was texting with a friend.
One.
The one that came out today.
High-powered friend.
Okay.
High-powered.
All right, event eight. Okay, event eight. Okay, High-powered friend. All right, Event 8.
Okay, Event 8.
Okay, let's make a note of that.
I want to see if we get any movement on Event 7 in real time.
Event 8, the big cat.
Big cats can be pieces of heavy machinery, or they can be felines.
Five rounds for time, six box jumps.
Wow, that's high.
It's 42 inches. Two pegboard climbs and a hill run oh wow they're really using the hill is this more hill
than they used last year i think so yeah yeah i like this too is this is this the first time
they're actually running the hill because there's a sled push up the hill and there's a drag up the
hill this is the first time they're actually running it like the goblet and by the way i think the hill is dangerous too when
they come down that hill that transition point where the hill goes into the no no that i mean
every every sport at a high level is fucking dangerous i hear i hear you do but that transition
every time they would transition there i think oh man, oh, man, someone's going to blow their knee out. Don't go mountain biking.
Don't play football, bro.
Somebody will grab your dick.
That's danger.
Don't skateboard right before you're sanctioned.
Yeah, don't skateboard, dude.
Don't play VR Wii.
It's the opposite of Event 7, and it's just a freaking sprint.
I love this workout.
I don't know if it's that much of a sprint
it's a sprint dude it's six two and then like the hill run like you think you think they're
going to be sprinting on those 42 inch box jumps jr after sprinting a hill run case thanks very
much and she will be making a correction although i do believe what she is saying
oh here we go here we go brace yourself for impact tell me that's faster than two minutes
around to give us an ass whooping um on the on the pegboard climb any so it's two for everybody
males and females right you think it's just who can get up and down the fastest and get back to
the run do you think it's possible it's legless do you think anything like that it's probably
normal and i think the entire workout is who's going to run the hill the fastest and keep the
box jump pace up there's a lot of talk early on is like is this with a ruck but now we know it's
not because the first workout which is awesome because i think you blunt that intensity and
this should be like like you said it said, it's 30 and 10.
A 42-inch jump with a ruck would be dumb, I think,
but I think that this is not faster than an eight-minute workout,
so I wouldn't call it a –
Hey, what are you guys suggesting,
that the pegboard might be right to left?
No.
No, it's a –
No, it'll be a regular pegboard, I think.
Okay, okay.
So this is just a good old, what would you call it?
Would you call this a triplet?
Yeah.
Yeah?
Yeah, triplet.
Six box jumps, 42.
Will people be rebounding?
No.
No.
So this says, yeah.
I mean, I wouldn't, I don't know.
Do you not think it's overs?
Like in up and over?
I was thinking overs in my head this entire time.
I feel like it's got to be overs.
I did a workout with a hard rock jump
38 inches the other day.
So I don't think...
So you think you just put your hands on it to come down?
Yeah, you put your hands on it, come down, same side.
And that's why I don't think it's a sprint at all.
It's not a get over.
You can't use your hands.
It's a jump.
It's a fucking jump.
I think the run is a jump.
Which is so much power.
It could be jump over, not get over.
I still don't think it's a jump over.
I think it's a jump up, and I think that hip extension at the top,
hands on the way down, I think it takes a ton of power out of you,
especially coming back for rounds two, three, and four after the hill run,
right back to that box jump. I don't think it's as fast as you think it is.
Jeremy, James Townsend would rebound. Philip Kelly, that's correct.
Go ahead. A lot of athleticism here, though, which is cool.
A ton. I love it. And the name of the workout, dude. Dave Castro, take a fucking note first off,
dude. These games are sick.
You like Big Cat?
Dude, that's such a cool name.
Hulkans is awesome.
How about Furry Cat?
How about Furry Cat?
You like Furry Kitty?
Yeah, Furry Kitty.
Furry Cocky?
Do you put that on your sushi?
Yeah.
Pretty Kitty.
Friendly Kitty.
Litterbox in the elementary school bathroom.
Furry.
John Young, this is not an athlete show. Velner all day we'll get back to that uh caleb can we see event number seven ladies and gentlemen
i present to you the director and who never sleeps katie henniger katie
event seven guys the the boy that we've been we've been digging around in your shit and oh
they're they're tripping on the second run.
Finding typos.
It's so cool.
How do they even know?
I don't even know.
They're like, that second run doesn't look placed right.
I'm like, shut the fuck up.
It's not.
You know what, guys?
I'll update the order.
The athletes are going to do it in the correct order.
They'll get briefed in the correct order.
All right.
All right.
But thank you for calling it out.
I will get with the team.
We'll fix it.
Give us a special... Where is it going to go?
Wait, let JR guess. JR, where does that second run go?
After the hill sled push.
It's not like a mystery.
I know.
That's what I mean.
You made this sound so urgent.
So urgent.
The world was...
I would love to hear what he said to you to get you on here.
Katie, I have an urgent question, Katie.
He said someone was calling me out again.
She came on here to beat John Young's ass.
No one is saying anything about this thing.
No one is going to say anything about that whole thing.
It's crazy.
That's crazy. Caleb, make her big again. Yeah, what is that thing? Tell us about that thing if you want to say anything about that. Oh, that's crazy.
Caleb make her big again.
Yeah.
What is,
what is that thing?
Tell us about that thing.
If you want to talk about that thing,
this is the iron bowl.
So we're going to test tomorrow with the,
uh,
with Brian Shaw and Kevin Ferris sitting right now,
roughly about 1300 pounds.
They have to pull it 50 feet.
Uh,
we'll find out tomorrow if we have to add some weight.
Look at the eyes, dude.
That's wild.
And that's sweet.
Wow.
So that's super cool.
So a couple of our welders made this by hand.
So it's all made back at the shop in Columbus.
That's so cool.
Crazy.
Super cool.
Well, I want you to know that I would have dressed more appropriately if I would have
known you were coming on the show.
And thank you for coming on.
I was just hoping you were going to have that basketball Jersey back on.
We're going to go hoop it up.
Hey,
these are some of the coolest workouts we've seen in the past couple of years.
I think awesome.
We're excited.
You know,
Josh,
I really enjoy working with Bridges and Spieler.
It's,
we got a kind of a good thing going and a healthy banter about what should be
where.
So,
you know,
like I said,
if the,
if the athletes come out and do their job,
we hope that we that we programmed it right
and the right person ends up on top of the podium.
I said this will only take two minutes.
One quick question.
Why not the duel at the end?
Why in the center?
I don't know.
We like it in the center.
Okay, we're going to ask you that question.
You know what?
The strongmen are at the end.
The strongmen have it as their final.
Yes, right.
Oh.
So, you know, one of them has it for the final. I strong men have it as their final. So that's right. Oh, so,
so you get,
you know,
one of them has it for the final.
I know you're not going to cover the strong man that much,
but,
but we did put it at the end there.
All right.
Thank you,
Katie.
Appreciate it.
You guys have fun this weekend.
Okay.
Yeah.
Get some sleep.
All right.
See you guys.
Ciao.
Katie.
Katie Henninger.
All right.
I really wanted to ask about the Boston.
I just started sweating like
for a few seconds.
I know, me too.
Okay.
Eric Weiss.
Let's go. Best show in the game. Great weekend ahead.
Dude, this is
one of the first shows on programming we've had
where I haven't talked shit.
I haven't been like this fucking sick.
I know, you're really excited. Your meds are working.
JR, good job sending them to a shrink.
Good job. To a shrink.
My meds.
My life source, dude. I've been guzzling it.
That's also healthy.
Oh, Rakesh
Manan. Wow. What an astute
observation.
If Sevan would shut his mouth, what would you have asked, JR, Mr. Howell?
I was just going to straight up go for it.
Just been like, Katie, can you confirm or deny that those bars do rotate on the monkey bars?
Oh, my God.
I was going to ask about the box jumps.
I wanted to ask so bad if they were just standing all the way up at the top.
I'm short-sighted.
That's a better question you had.
They're both good. I was texting with her. I apologize.
I was like, hey, we'll only keep you two minutes.
I would have hoped for
just a laugh or a smile or something
because I feel like I probably would have
gotten really
straight-faced.
I'm not going to discuss any details.
I would have felt like Taylor last year.
So you're like,
that's a good question.
Did I ask a question like that last year?
No,
we'll talk about it all day here.
And how the fuck does everyone know I'm going to a therapist,
dude?
Will Branstetter.
So when you wrote box jumps,
are they just going to be box jumps?
Yeah.
She would love that question.
Get this guy out of here.
Take him out of the comments.
Hey, only if Sevan would shush on the Sevan podcast.
I couldn't agree more.
I can't believe I'm still awake.
Okay.
I know, but I want to go to bed so bad.
I'm having a rough day.
I'm having a rough day.
Today's only a 10 for me.
I'm usually 11 out of 10.
Today's just a 10 out of 10.
Okay, let's go to...
Anything else we want to say about that really quick?
Sorry, event number eight.
So cool.
Okay.
Let me follow up.
No one rebounds?
What did we decide on that?
Rebounds or no rebounds?
No.
So jump up, step down.
Yes.
Even there's a guy there named Jason Hopper.
Now, you don't think that last name means he jumps up and down, Hopper?
I just don't see the advantage.
No.
If you – dude, they typically say that to rebound a jump,
you should be able to perform that jump like a max vertical.
Like you should have that vertical height to rebound that jump safely.
For most super good CrossFitters, I would imagine around a 30-inch vertical.
So 30-inch rebounding box jump is probably okay.
Not a fucking one is going to do a 42-inch vertical.
So unless they want to blow their achilles out of
their buttholes i would imagine no rebounding sorry did i just did i just take it no no no no
no it's good i was good i was thinking about asking about uh jelly hosta and uh fikowski
but let's just go to event number nine uh event number nine to be announced or do we have any
clues any insights do we know any clues, any insights?
Do we know anything you want to say about this?
John Young said they were front squats earlier in the comments.
I read that, but I think he's just stupid.
They know it's a climax.
They know it's the last.
Last year, the last event, they know we want to be excited.
It's the grand finale, right?
They're going to put up the fireworks.
Wasn't it last year they did Grace or something and we got to see
Perstetter and Spiegel?
Heavy Grace.
I mean, that was fun, right?
It's just 30 clusters at 185 for time.
And we saw basically, Vellner lost it on the final event last year, right?
Didn't he go for it?
Like with 27th rest?
Yes.
If it's not what JR was talking about with what katie had posted it's like i could see
double which was what remind me sorry remind me it was that uh shopping cart basket oh okay okay
and maybe maybe just with the name like the cleanup like like they're cleaning heavy stones or heavy stones or heavy sandbag,
and they're loading it to different height pedestals maybe.
I don't know.
But that would make more sense to be something like an elimination style event.
What about what Matt C. is saying?
Any ropes? Have we seen ropes?
I think more likely see double unders.
Why not ropes? We haven't seen any ropes.
There's so much pulling.
Pull-up monkey bars.
I mean, they'll do it.
Dude, ropes are kind of a staple, right?
I think as soon as it's a staple, you should stop doing it.
Right.
All right.
I don't think we're going to see a rope climb this year,
and I would be happy to not see a rope climb
with all the pulling and hanging that there already is.
I think it's awesome that they're using pegboard
because that was one of the movements that people probably were just like,
ah, they'll never use pegboard there.
I don't think we need more pulling.
I would imagine it's quite a bit of squatting.
So I could see double grace grace we did heavy grace last
year double grace this year i look at clean i look at up i think clean and jerk that's something
that's kind of how they ended it last year i know we've talked to like squatting high volume low
weight there's not a lot of that but we have
done there is legs in here in different ways kind of like they had at the games you've got the rucks
you've got the reverse sled pull you've got sled pushes you've got lunges running and jumping yeah
so they're not being ignored we're just not doing like traditional high volume squatting about dude
i think but think about the qualifier with the clusters you couldn't see that could be in the
duel i don't know i could see 30 clusters for time that would be cool 185 30 clusters that's
just too i think it's too close to what it was last year although i'm saying double
grace so what am i right that's so close too so go double go fucking 60 clusters at 135 but it's
also 30 heavy again halpin's right the dual the dual um the dual may have a rope dual one and
dual two about that yeah okay well i had. Well, I read better than I listen.
No, I'm just saying Halpin's not the original thinker of that.
Yeah, fine.
I mean, it could be.
I mean, I don't want to go back to the duel, but.
I just agree with JR that there needs to be some higher volume squatting somewhere,
and I don't know.
It would be hard to imagine that coming.
There has to be, but there isn't't and it's okay to point that out there's gonna be more
than 15 squats jesus look at this have the athletes count to five lazars out oh hell yeah
wheeze that's right i apologize i apologize i'm talking about back to work. Anything crazy, a bike ride, any chance Rogue just like we have a perfect one through eight
and they just shit the bed and introduce something ridiculous.
Not Katie and Bill.
No.
I would actually be surprised to see another machine.
I think traditionally they usually have like, you know, you have the the running in the first workout so there's a monostructural
there you have the hill run in the triplet with the pegboard and the box jump so you have some
running you have another monostructural there then you have the ski and the echo i would be surprised
if with the two workouts left there was a rower if if there was another machine, and not just double-unders.
Ladies and gentlemen, the official show for the Rogue Invitational 2023.
We just went through all the events, one through nine.
What sport is more popular? This is the bias of your viewership.
No, it's not.
All the votes are in on what is a scientific study crossfit uh 73 people think crossfit is more popular than strongman
73 percent think it's crossfit uh 27 percent think it's strongman do you think uh starting
an interval like in the duel with wall ball would be good kind of like hat trick no i would not want to see that talk about talk
about hard judging and a sprint yeah and something that's too easy it's too easy to know when when
isn't wall ball not a sprint what are you what are you talking about that was just silly talk
what do you what do you mean when is wall ball not a wall ball is always a sprint it's always
it's all there's the execution and that's always Last year at the games, it wasn't a sprint.
They were two chunks of 50 or 75, and they weren't a sprint at all.
Maybe not a sprint for you, but they were a sprint for the best.
Oh, my God.
So we've got –
It was 100 each set.
No, just 100.
Oh, it was 50 each set or 100 in the middle.
100 in the middle, right.
Just 100.
Yeah, that's not a sprint, Savon.
Sorry.
Ivana has something important to say.
Sorry.
Could someone else read this so someone else gets a chance to talk
Caleb
capable of men with such strength
that's good keep going
everyone should watch the strong men
too it is cool
such men with such strength
you should have put your wig on are you getting horny dude is cool. Such a man with such strength.
You should have put your wig on. Are you getting horny, dude?
This is firing someone up,
dude.
All right.
Anything else you guys want to add? We are
47, 6 seconds away
from Taylor saying, fuck you, I'm out.
Anyone want to add anything to the show?
I'm excited to see if there's any
little tiny details that make little big
differences,
bar types,
what they're doing,
handstand pushups on.
I'm excited for what the dual is.
And with the changes that they've made this year so far already with the ski
or Cal differences in the log differences,
Cal differences and the log differences,
I bet they'll fine-tune
the duel for a
better viewing experience than it was
last year. You think they'll release
the finale on
the last day? Didn't they do that last
year, like right before? Yeah. They'll probably
hold on to that.
Mr. Thumb, anything you want to add?
No, I'm stoked. J.R., can you
have some wise closing words for us about the event?
Something that hypes it up.
Maybe throwing Ricky Mack's name in there or Laura Horvat or something.
We could stand if it's going to be something crazy.
I think the first workout will set the tone for the weekend.
The field is so deep and people are so talented that I look for someone to win
the competition that maybe finishes in the top five on that first workout.
Like,
I just think that you can't really afford to mess up in this field.
So keep your eye on who does well in the first workout.
So you guys tomorrow morning,
7am Pacific standard time,
the seven on podcast, and then we will start covering rogue with our first. Oh no. Are you guys tomorrow morning, 7 a.m. Pacific Standard Time, the Sevan Podcast, and then we
will start covering Rogue with our first
Oh, no. Are you guys doing Shut Up and Scribble
again tomorrow? Me and Taylor are going to
talk about that. Okay, good.
Then at 11 a.m. we'll be Shut Up and Scribble.
If you want to continue your fix of
programming talk,
which I think that they will have more to add
since they've just had a chance to process
all this over the last 90 minutes.
And then we will be live at 3 p.m. prior to the 4 p.m. event.
And then we'll be on afterwards for a post show.
Thanks, guys.
Bye-bye.
