Awesome, buddy. Well, I'm glad, I'm glad that you have two wonderful. Oh, I see someone doing pull-ups through your back window. Where are you? I'm at, uh, Travis
Starting point is 00:01:16 Meads, Iron Valley CrossFit in Oregon city, getting ready to start a class in 20 minutes. Okay. Listen, everyone, if you do not know who Gary Roberts is, Gary Roberts is the star of killing the fat man season one and season two, the two most popular shows series in the history of CrossFit media outside of games content, where they killing the fat man series millions and millions and millions and millions of views. But more importantly, who cares about the views? These shows change people's lives. Tens of thousands of people saw Gary Roberts' journey, his weight loss journey, and they watched him turn his life around. He did it once. He gained some weight back.
Starting point is 00:01:55 He did it twice. This is Killing the Fat Man Season 3 is being filmed now. We are working with California Hormones, CAHorm.com and gary roberts after taking a year how long did you take off from working out gary a pandemic the pandemic so you had two years two years yeah i'm a walking cliche bro and and how and how much weight did you put on in those two years? My body likes to gain about 50 pounds. And so what did you weigh a couple weeks ago when you first started on this journey, three weeks ago? 255. 255. And what's the most you've ever weighed in your life? 268.
Starting point is 00:02:41 Okay, so you got back up there again. Yeah, I'm sorry, man. I'm sorry to let you down. I keep letting down the 7-O-M-A-T-O-C-I-O-N. It took me 75 times to quit smoking, trying to quit smoke. So now we are filming season three of Killing the Fat Man, the California Hormones edition. California Hormones edition, season three of Killing the Fat Man, the California Hormones Edition. California Hormones Edition, season three. And about three weeks ago, you started the testosterone replacement therapy, correct?
Starting point is 00:03:13 Yes, sir. And about four weeks ago, you started working out at CrossFit again. Yes, sir. Five weeks. Five weeks. And do you feel the best you felt in two years? Oh, most definitely. I'm i'm back man i'm back to feeling like i could take on the world i don't know why i need you to come in my life to stop the roller coaster of snowball fat rolling down the hill but thank you again for reminding me to tell me about um getting on testosterone
Starting point is 00:03:48 replacement therapy how did that work i know i gave you a call and then after i gave you a call and put you in contact with california hormones what did you do um basically they came out they did a blood test they got all my blood work and uh discovered my testosterone is low. So they brought me up to par with some of the stuff, and, you know, it's aiding in me getting my life back. It's a little bit more difficult at 49 years old. When do you turn 50? November. Awesome.
Starting point is 00:04:17 And what's more difficult about it? I mean, I creak. I can feel my brain is still young, but the joints are starting to be more difficult to move and recovery is more difficult. It's just harder to move. Flexibility has gone downhill. But I can slowly feel feel the machines parts starting to be well oiloiled, and I'm moving better. So thankful. Kenneth DeLapp says, Gary looks noticeably better since the last time he was on. Gary, in a week, I want to schedule you for a full interview.
Starting point is 00:04:56 I'm super stoked you're back in the gym. I'm super stoked you're working with California Hormones. And I'm really excited for Season 3, Killing the Fat Man. You're one month into shooting, and's talk in a couple of weeks. We'll do it. We'll sit down and talk for two hours. Thank you. Seven.
Starting point is 00:05:12 Love you, buddy. Ciao. Valley CrossFit. Whoop. Thank you. Taylor self for patiently waiting. Gary.
Starting point is 00:05:23 What if, what a fucking stud. I'm so stoked so stoked that uh he's doing that i got i got to bring him on at least at least at least once a day from here on out it's a good little uh kick boost someone said what the show about killing taylor uh i'm only to take this call because it's from the United Kingdom. How can I help you and your king and queen? Hey, Devon. It's Clive.
Starting point is 00:05:55 My surname is McLaughlin. It's not McLaughlin. McLaughlin. Clive McLaughlin. Hi. Hey. Clive McLaughlin. Hi.
Starting point is 00:06:04 Hey. So what I wanted to highlight was I was checking the event one result. I expected to see Spencer and Lazar right beside each other, and I didn't because they got the same penalty except Lazar was later to cross the finish line because he tried to correct his mistake. That's a bit sucky, isn't it?
Starting point is 00:06:28 Spencer actually is higher on the leaderboard because he just went straight to the finish line. Do you want me to translate what he's saying, Taylor? Do you want me to translate that shit to English for you? Saxon. Is he talking about Saxon versus Spencer? Yeah, Lazar and Spencer. He's basically saying that Lazar's time should basically be the same as Spencer's, but because
Starting point is 00:06:48 he tried to go back out on the field and fix his shit, he's being punished. Yeah, Clive, we already know that. We already talked about that. Duh. Sorry. It's hard to keep up with your 30 hours of content this week, Siobhan. I've tried to listen to most of it, but... You're too busy making money and donating it.
Starting point is 00:07:05 I'll give you a pass. Hey, love the show. Thank you. Keep doing the good work. Thanks, dude. I love your support. Thanks, man. People in the comments are freaking out about Nick Matthews crossovers not being doubles.
Starting point is 00:07:19 And I believe his rope was passing under the feet two time. The issue with other athletes is they were trying to do a double under and then a crossover like a double then cross nick matthews rope was passing under the feet both times he was just crossing the arm pass on cross pass cross pass on cross pass so he just knew how to do them and the other athletes didn't he knew how to string them together he knew how to do them and other athletes didn't other athletes were trying to do double unders into the crossover and they're just that's just not how you start you cross uncross cross uncross well in defense of those other um those other athletes when i first started doing double unders i did one single i did two singles one double two singles one double and i think that's what danielle brandon was doing she was doing a jump crossover a jump a crossover
Starting point is 00:08:10 so so you could find your rhythm because you didn't have to do them unbroken go ahead but what i think you're right and what i think they should have done is tried to do singles into the crossover not double unders into the crossover you like i like never doing triple unders have i tried to go from double unders into word i see what you mean yeah i see what you mean okay basically as someone goes basically he was smart basically he's done them before and these other athletes had the the the variety of uh single unders i saw was fucking it became comical yeah it became freaking comical like i mean i'm no expert at double unders
Starting point is 00:08:47 i'm far from an expert i can't i don't i don't even know if i don't think i can string 50 together on a moment's notice but i can do single unders all day and it's just and i and mine look don't look anything like theirs they're just smooth i can't i can't send this video because it's someone who sent it to me but i'm gonna face it on the camera and go in slow-mo. You can see the rope passes under twice. One, two. Yeah. One, two.
Starting point is 00:09:14 Thank you, Bo, for sending me that. Oh, you a hoe. Danielle did it the same way Nick Matthew did, but her judge kept no repping her. No shit. I did, Jamal. I did see her fighting with her judge so you're saying that when she started stringing them together her ref screwed her um before we get to just all the fun stuff uh i i want to say i want to go through some of the things here uh before before we came on we saw cf oslo uh in the team competition uh one it's added
Starting point is 00:09:47 some drama but mayhem took second and third we saw rich froning's team and angelo's team across second and third uh we did see when the uh ladies went uh t i think this is tia's lowest standing right at worst event in the history of the crossfit games is that true anyone anyone anyone you know it's her second tia's yeah second or second worst her first was uh heavy dt in 2015 or 2014 when it's just me and you on the air we have to both listen someone even can't even read in the comments uh um so uh and and laura choked on the pistols no she had a lot of trips on the jump rope she had a lot of trips on the singles and a lot of trips on the double unders and on the pistols that was first round but she made it through and then on the second round she didn't make it through because you tripped on the double unders like four times uh emma lawson had a uh handstand error
Starting point is 00:10:43 and then a fall but fall in the second round, but eventually she went on to win that, right? Mal. Did Mal? I thought Mal won. Was it Mal? Who ended up winning that event? Can we see the leaderboard?
Starting point is 00:10:55 Here we go. Danielle won the event. There you go. Yeah, she won the event. Oh, Rebecca took second. Emma Lawson took third. Wow. Okay. Yeah. Oh, Rebecca took second Emma Lawson took third Wow, okay Yeah
Starting point is 00:11:09 Incredible And Rebecca Fusli Has a second now at the CrossFit Games A 33rd And a second A gymnast for 13 years She was a gymnast And it paid off Okay Wow A gymnast from the – for 13 years she was a gymnast.
Starting point is 00:11:26 And it paid off. Okay. Wow. Who is Emma Lawson in first place? Wow. She's going to be a rookie going into Thursday wearing the red and white. Where's Tia? That's a great question.
Starting point is 00:11:43 Tia Tomei is ninth overall. Wow. It's not crazy, but that's also, you're not used to seeing her not wearing a leader jersey. The ladies were switching ropes for doing double unders. They look goofy doing the singles. When Tia, oh, you know what I noticed when Tia's back there in the corral? Everyone knows where she's at.
Starting point is 00:12:03 Like they try to act like they're not staring at her but she was like on one side of mal o'brien and then she walked behind her to the other and you could see mal o'brien's eyes go like this like you know what i mean you know like when someone walks behind you and you wonder where they're going but you don't want to turn your head and look so you're swimming with the shark and you want to know where the shark's at at all times yes yes uh there were there were there were four there were four things i felt like they were introduced new. And I think it's a lot, and I think maybe it's too many.
Starting point is 00:12:32 But I want to tell you what the four are and tell me if you think I'm out of my mind. Because one of them you might disagree with is not being a new component. And I'm having a little trouble articulating it. We had the L-sit press to handstand, right? Mm-hmm. And then on the parallettes and then walking away. Yep. We had a new variation of the pegboard.
Starting point is 00:12:53 And it wasn't an L-sit because I saw athletes start from a tuck position. Okay. Yeah, so it wasn't necessarily an L, but it was a press to handstand from the parallettes. Okay, good distinction. Then we saw a new variation on the pegboard. Yep, strict pegboard. Then we saw a new jump rope, a crossover. Not just a crossover.
Starting point is 00:13:14 If it would have been a crossover, that would have been okay. A crossover single. It was a crossover double. Yeah, crossover double. Yep. That's some hardcore shit. I think any one of those would have been fantastic putting three of them together was tough it was a lot it was a lot but then how about this
Starting point is 00:13:35 i know i'm sure that somewhere in the crossfit games people have been demanded to do things unbroken before right but there but there's some gymnastics quality about how much unbroken shit that they had to do where people were being sort of um like in gymnastics you're you're you're not just rewarded for your successes but you're punished for your failures in the movements you know what i mean like if you fuck you have to do it right now and if you fuck it up even though you've done it a thousand times perfect before um you get doc points was there sort of a gymnastics like judging component you feel because of the need to do so many things unbroken you had if you fell off the um uh if you fell during the handstand walk you had to go to
Starting point is 00:14:21 the beginning if you messed up the uh pistols you had to go to the beginning. If you messed up the pistols, you had to go back to the beginning. If you messed up the pegboard, you got to get new pegs or if you touched it. Do you know what I'm trying to say here? Because of the jump roping, because two of the rounds had to be unbroken, that that's never been so heavily – the unbroken caused the movement quality to worsen. There was a lot of – there was more stress than I've ever seen in a workout because of how much unbroken shit, or is that just ridiculous? No, I think it added stress.
Starting point is 00:14:52 And that's, and that's why I initially said earlier that I thought the jump rope was going to give people more trouble than I think a lot of people thought. It's what kept you out. I think she, she got late into her set of 50 double unders and then tripped. No, she didn't. Dude, I don't think she made it out of the first round you know she did she got it yeah she got into the double unders and she was late into her set of 50 like 40s okay uh which
Starting point is 00:15:16 is that's 30 that's 25 seconds in a workout you just can't and that's what she finished she finished that second one in like 225 um And the best were finishing around 158, two minutes. And so we see the women do it. We don't see any of the women get past the crossovers. Right? It's me and you, Taylor. No, none of them. It's just me and you.
Starting point is 00:15:40 I know, I know, I know. Just me and you. None of them. Okay. Someone's saying Mike M is saying I'm wrong that she didn't make it to the doubles. Don't tell him he's wrong. Tell him what's right. So the crossovers, none of the women make it past the crossover,
Starting point is 00:15:55 and at this point, Adrian Bosman must be tripping. Big time. Oh, shit, the entire field of 40. It's not like they choked a little bit. They they they choked a lot. And it wasn't there. It's starting to look like it's not their fault, like they were set up for failure. Right. And you don't want to do that. You don't want to do that to the greatest athletes in the world. I want to give you an example of that, by the way, for those of you something historically that I don't think has ever been said out loud. I don't remember what year the games were, but they were in Carson. Listen, listen, Taylor. In Carson, there was an event called the softball throw.
Starting point is 00:16:34 And when Greg told Dave to do that competition, he said, I want you to throw the ball with both left hand and right hand. And Dave and Greg got into it it and greg was right that was the correct test but dave wanted to save some integrity of the athletes because he knew that the internet would then be filled with memes of fucking rich froning doing this and we'd be seeing it in fail videos for the next fucking 100 years right it would just be a fucking montage of the 79 of the 80 athletes that can't throw with their left hand and so they didn't do it to preserve some fucking montage of the 79 of the 80 athletes that can't throw with their left hand. And so they didn't do it to preserve some fucking integrity of the sport. We just weren't ready to hang our dicks out to be that vulnerable yet.
Starting point is 00:17:14 And I had that fear watching this event that we were setting ourselves up for that kind of vulnerability and, oh, fuck. And if you saw the comments, everyone was ripping on it. Did you see it? No one was coming to fucking Adrianrian's defense and then finally i don't know where he's from but his name is nick matthew he's right outside of uh he's in minnesota and he fucking put that cape on and ripped open his shirt and showed the s and and i thought it was awesome that chase says oh my god adrian must be so happy. And then the camera shows Adrian Bosman and the event's not even over
Starting point is 00:17:48 and Adrian's just clapping. Did you see that? He's just clapping like this. And I think Adrian got redemption. It was risky. What do you think? I think he got redemption because two people finished
Starting point is 00:18:01 and the crowd went fucking crazy. Tyler Watkins, thank you for saving the day. Go ahead, read whatever you want no please answer me taylor i know i i think nick matthew and gee finishing the test to me showed and velner right workout velner didn't finish no okay uh no velner didn't finish so justin madaris got to the sit to press the handstand missed it twice then hit it on the third and then time expired as he was walking down the ramp but i think gee and nick matthew finishing the workout showed at least to me that it was the right workout and what i think happened maybe is that the right five women didn't necessarily make it into that third round so what i think would have been a little better is if the skills that were required in that third round were tested to a lighter degree,
Starting point is 00:18:48 potentially in the earlier rounds, so that you got the people who would have been able to have finished that L-sit to press or the crossover double unders. I'm going to translate what Taylor Self just said, and if it's wrong, I apologize, Taylor, we'll correct him. What Taylor is saying is if one, and it's easy to say this this in hindsight but if they would have used single over crossovers that would have been the most perfectly programmed event in crossfit games history but because of that one tweak it ended up almost being the worst taylor yes or no uh ish ish yeah that's close enough uh tyler walkins from tyler walkins fantasy fitness league also known as LawnchairLeaderboarding.com. Tyler, what do you think, dude? Did Nick Matthews do enough to save face,
Starting point is 00:19:33 or was that just a fucking blunder? It was good for Nick Matthews. He will not be rewarded for how much better he was than everyone he competed against on that you shouldn't have to rely on one athlete just randomly being exactly the athlete you needed for that but again but again i don't know that he was that much better than the rest of the field that pressed the handstand and the crossover double unders because no i agree against four people in those two skills so that that's what I was saying.
Starting point is 00:20:05 If the whole, if the whole elimination was the same triplet, you just have round one, repeat the same skills, round two, repeat the same skills, round three. I think you get the right people in the top five to finish it and give the
Starting point is 00:20:19 show a spectacle. Oh, or, okay. Sorry. Sorry, Taylor. You did say that I was so stuck in the way I wanted to hear
Starting point is 00:20:25 it. Um, so even if they just would have done one round and let all 40 guys go, but start with the third round, we have no idea if Nick Matthews would have won. Exactly. Yeah. But we would have shit. I am slow. Thank you. We would have seen five athletes in the top five that, you know, are finishing or getting really close rather than two and a third getting close. And then two that aren't even close or like the women's side, five women who are just sitting there fucking off for 30 seconds on a jump rope. And that's a,
Starting point is 00:20:55 that's another good point. You have to separate the men from the women. I think these are totally two different topics we need to talk about is the men versus the women. I think the women, it was, it was too aggressive. I don't know why they couldn't do double those double under switchovers nearly. That's the thing.
Starting point is 00:21:11 I think it was just only those five girls couldn't do them. Cause you see the video of Laura destroying them, uh, on her Instagram. And then you see, and again, I don't think it was a physical thing. It wasn't like because they're women they couldn't do it. They just – Right, I agree. It's a neurological adaptation, and I think these women just didn't – or at least the five in the final just did not understand how to do a crossover jump rope. I want to come back to that in one second.
Starting point is 00:21:38 I just want to check in with Sousa, but I'm in the exact – I'm perplexed because in my mind, in my sexist mind, women are better at jumping rope. But let's check in with Susan and then we'll talk about what the fuck is going on with women and jump roping. Matt Sousa, hi. Hey, what's going on, guys? Oh, what happened? Did Bigfoot show up? Oh, no, monkey pox and everyone ran for their lives. Yeah, this place cleared out quick.
Starting point is 00:22:01 What the? It was nuts. But did you guys see what I was shooting over there a little bit? It looked like they're hanging up some ropes. And I'm going to make my way around to that side, but it looks like there's some sort of obstacle they'll be jumping over. So I'm going to move around to the other side of the field so you guys could check that out.
Starting point is 00:22:17 Okay, don't go inside the media area. You'll lose your pass. Right, right, right. See, I'm outside of it, very clearly outside of it okay thank you um suza i heard that um i'm hearing i'm getting mess text messages that the way after that event um what's it called the silly speed or no speed skill skill speed elimination spill skill speed elimination that the women were um angry that there were some really angry women and people were being very vocal about it. Did you witness any of that?
Starting point is 00:22:49 Yeah, you could definitely see it. I was sitting across the side, like on the opposite side of where they were, and I can still see them. There's the body language and the way they're expressing. There was some sort of frustration. And I think you guys touched on this already, but I think Danielle, there was some sort of miscommunication with her and her judge. And I think you guys touched on this already, but I think Danielle, there was some sort of miscommunication with her and her judge. And I was close enough to that to see that she just looked like as if she was either confused on the standard or her judge was, and she kept going, did that count? Did this count? And try to making a adaptation on the fly there. So I don't know. And then you guys already touched on it, but a lot of people were saying that Matthews didn't do it. It was a single under, but then the slow motion video that he provided clearly showed that he just,
Starting point is 00:23:26 he had it down and the rope didn't pass through twice. Okay. Don't get too close to any of those people. I don't want you getting monkey pox. Jiggy Josh says Tudor is fast on his hands, but couldn't do 75 single unders to, to earn the ability to show it off. And that, so I'm going to take what Jiggy Josh says and be like, Hey, that's another uh you know kind of quiver or feather uh in adrian's uh corner because uh that's not his fault everyone should be able to do 75 single unders i also heard and i find this hard to
Starting point is 00:23:56 believe that um tutor magda went over afterwards and blew up on james townsend i bet that can't be true right by the way those are the vip stairs that i used to go up i used to blow up on James Townsend. That can't be true, right? By the way, those are the VIP stairs that I used to go up. I used to be a VIP. Blew up on him about what? After he came off. I don't know what, but after that event, after he failed on his 75 single-unders, that he came over to James Townsend and exploded.
Starting point is 00:24:17 I'm guessing that it... And was it the single-unders or was it the pegboards? It was the single-unders. He tripped like three times. I was like second row uh i didn't watch his side i didn't see that part of that he he looked did you witness him exploding on on james townsend i didn't see that but i watched him come off and if he so i've coached football in the past and if he had come off the field like that i'd been get your ass on the bitch
Starting point is 00:24:40 like he was being kind of a baby about it and And I was like, Oh, so you think, you think maybe Townsend blew up on him, but maybe so. I was like, Hey, be a grownup and go sit down. You screwed up. Sorry.
Starting point is 00:24:52 Like handle it. He's a young kid too. He's a young kid. Yeah. And it was like, that's how we handle it. And it's like, we need to be professional here.
Starting point is 00:25:00 Tia handled it well. She screwed up and she took her punch and she got off the field. Boohoo. Call the women. Hey, I'm just, I don't know if any of that's true. We'll speak to Tudor tomorrow morning at 7 a.m. I do know that they showed him put his hands, his face in his hands, which is a pretty dramatic posture and I kind of don't blame him.
Starting point is 00:25:19 That must have hurt. So happy to finally catch a live show, Miss Pugface. What did I tell you about changing the name of your your profile but thank you for the dollar 90 i think in terms of the women getting upset and it's just bruised egos like like adrian said what's going to happen this year and there's going to be bruised egos and i also think that uh in order for the sport to grow people have got to get uncomfortable and be exposed oh i love that over under logs matt suza what are we looking at there gonna get over the log gonna get kicked out of gonna get kicked out of the venue no no this Oh, I love that. Over under logs. Matt Souza, what are we looking at there? Gonna get kicked out of the venue.
Starting point is 00:25:51 No, no, this is free and open space. I'm not in any restricted area. Everybody's allowed back here. If you don't get kicked out, I don't think you're doing your job. Hey, I'm just checking out this hardworking rogue crew. These guys are incredible. Two to one. That's what we're witnessing here. Anything else you guys see is just collateral damage i don't know hey um is that uh is that
Starting point is 00:26:11 those things that are out there on the field is that are those uh saw horses that that's what they use those to do work on yes that's what they look like um can you zoom uh i we going to take – I don't – no, I don't think I can. Okay. Let's make that big, Will. Can we make that big – give Sousa his own screen? Yeah, there we go. I think we're doing burpees over the log. Oh.
Starting point is 00:26:39 Why are there only two of those, Matt? Are they putting more together, or do you think it's some sort of group event where they run towards that and there's only a narrow lane for people to jump over? Well, that would be awesome, but it just looks like it might be set up here for a demo or something. And how high is that, Sousa? Is that chest height, 48 inches maybe? Yep, yep. That's exactly how high it looks. It looks like it would come up right to my collarbone or so, and I'm 9 1⁄2, 5'10". Perfect.
Starting point is 00:27:05 So I could walk right underneath that. Yeah. Yeah, you wouldn't have to. I would shave your hair. Miss Pugface, más dólares. Gracias. $19.99. Dang.
Starting point is 00:27:16 And this is inflation. Amanda with the beautiful hair. Pablo, $49.99. Super sticker. Thank you. Crazy thank you you i only bathe men sorry but thank you um how many competitions uh trina mcloyd how many competitions have pulled out competitors have pulled out of the competition thus far great question suza we have emily rolf and do we have any news on her no no news on uh emily yet but we've kind of been siloed off in the stadium.
Starting point is 00:27:48 So hopefully we'll get something soon. There's also a 65-plus athlete that withdrew, a male. That's right. And anyone else besides those two, Sousa? Not that I've heard of yet, no. Okay. All right, thank you, brother. Keep up the good work.
Starting point is 00:28:06 I've heard of yet. No. Okay. All right. Thank you, brother. Keep up the good work. Um, why do you guys think that, um, Tyler was saying that there's a difference between men and women, but wouldn't you think that jump roping was one of those things? When I grew up, when I was a kid, the girls were better at jump roping. It's all rhythm. And a lot of girls grow up dancing. And I think that's why it makes it a little easier on them. I think it's just what they're exposed to. I don't, I don't think it has anything to do with them. I think it's just what they're exposed to. I don't think it has anything to do with gender. I just think it's what you're exposed to. You mean sex. You mean sex.
Starting point is 00:28:29 Sex, whatever. I agree. I also think because it was the first time that the judging staff was going through it on the course, they were probably a little bit more apprehensive, weren't as clear on what the standard was. And so some of the girls were frustrated, like, like Taylor said. And so with the men, things were a little bit more clear. I'm not saying that they were absolutely clear, but so there was more frustration from the girls in the first and the guys might've had more clarification going into that than the women did.
Starting point is 00:28:58 I also was a little frustrated seeing the differences in jump ropes. And I thought if they're going to allow some athletes to use like a be beaded jump rope all the athletes should have had the ability to select one potentially and maybe they did but i think it was a rope i think it was like a rope jump rope i don't think it was beaded unless you guys could have seen it better than me it's like it's not truly beaded but it has these long beads on it that slide over a string and they are all pretty much it's like jointed and so it just looked like it's not i'm 99 sure that's what it was yeah maybe maybe you're right and that's wrong i didn't jump rope and trina's claiming that she's a woman but i've texted with you and i've made a friendship with you the last uh two uh two uh months and you swear like a sailor sailor you're more dude than girl oh my god it's james
Starting point is 00:29:45 sprague matt get that guy on here okay let's get james on here for a second so so what you're saying is is that um okay let's get james on the podcast james james james oh wow same dad same James. Oh, wow. Same, dad. Same. James. What do you want to ask him? What do you want to ask him? James, so he didn't have monkey pox. The truth is that just Street Horner was the only one who could do the tuck position to handstand. That's right.
Starting point is 00:30:17 He said he didn't have monkey pox. You just got good vibes. I ain't spreading nothing. I'm spreading good vibes. How about why was Street Horner called in? Hey, why was Street Horner called in? Hey, why was Street Horner called in? Street was called in because I was not good enough at demoing movements. I wasn't fit enough.
Starting point is 00:30:36 I couldn't even do an air squat. So they're like, oh, this guy's crap. No, I'm just kidding. I didn't feel too great, but I feel good again. And so I'm hopefully back in tomorrow. Did you guys hear him? Yeah. So it wasn't specifically because Street could do the tuck position to handstand?
Starting point is 00:30:58 So it wasn't specifically because Street could do the tuck position to handstand? Oh, my gosh. He did crush that, bro. Like, he did it better than most of the guys out there. And the chicks didn't even get to do it. That's crazy. crush that, bro. He did it better than most of the guys out there. The chicks didn't even get to do it. It was nutty. Sousa, ask him if when he was testing this workout, if he gave Boz any feedback on the
Starting point is 00:31:13 crossover double under, or if any of the athletes told, ask them what athletes, or if the athletes gave Boz any feedback on the crossover jump rope, and if any of them thought it was stupid. Did anybody on the demo team give Boz feedback on the crossover jump rope and if any of them thought it was stupid. Did anybody on the demo team give Boz feedback on that crossover double under? Well, it looked like everyone was having an easy time with it on the demo team.
Starting point is 00:31:34 At least he made it look easy. So, you know, if there's an outlier on the demo team that can do something that everyone else can't, it's going to give an inaccurate read. Oh, my gosh. See? You're actually real. Do you see that? The females. What he said he said the females
Starting point is 00:31:47 didn't have a problem with the uh demo team he said all the demo team did all right with it but the females did the best yeah that's what i heard i think that just fitness tyler's nodding his head i think that's just a little more evidence that with five athletes and dem athletes doing it in real time at the games, you don't get an accurate depiction of how good the field was at that particular skill. There are 35 other women. That's an interesting point to make. Not everybody got to test that skill.
Starting point is 00:32:17 They were all weeded out up to that point. And so it's like, okay, you get these people up to this point testing the harder skill, but it's not. I don't really think that's fair in some ways. Yeah, yeah, and I think that was Taylor's original point. But Taylor's not involved in this conversation because he just only reads the comments. No, I am involved in the conversation. I'm just reading with someone saying rhythm and jumping rope is not a part of fitness, but that would fall under one of the ten general skills. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:32:44 Noah won his first round, right? fitness but that would fall under one of the 10 general skills thank you uh noah in the set noah won the first his first the first uh round right best one out of all 40 athletes then he fell off the pegs then he fell off the pegs and then did you see him he threw his peg he was pissed yeah he tossed his peg he was like fuck this tossed his peg uh came off the pegboard what is the rule if you come off the pegboard and your pegboards are at the top are you done or do you get another set or what you've usually got another set of pegs but i think because it was strict and he was having such a hard time he was like there's no fucking way i'm getting it so i'm just done and and that kind of sucks because that could cause him that kind of attitude could cause him a couple placements which could be a couple points which at the end of the day
Starting point is 00:33:20 could keep him off of the podium uh that potentially could have cost him a couple places yeah yeah for sure i was thinking that he was again he had 19 other people that he was racing at that point and so even if he had gotten the pegboard with a second to go rather than 30 seconds of just standing around being upset then he's you know maybe a couple spots higher so for sure. Can we check the leaderboard and see how that scored and where no went? Well, can we check that out? So do we have a consensus?
Starting point is 00:33:59 What do you think could have been done to make that work out better? What would you say, Taylor? I think without a complete overhaul, just two things. I i think i think if you want to keep the crossover double under or if you keep the crossover jump rope just make that the movement all the way through um because that was clearly a limiter and maybe they weren't it's hindsight's 2020 they're probably not thinking that the five people who get there are just going to blunder it that badly, especially if the demo team could all complete it. That would be option one, is just have them all complete the crossover double under from the start
Starting point is 00:34:33 so that the people that get to the top five can do it, and then we get to see who can do a press to handstand. The other option would have been to just do single unders, then double unders, then triple unders. Okay. Okay. Okay. Uh, Tyler, I'd like to hear your, your idea on that also. What would you like, what do you think could have been done to improve that workout without an overhaul? It was two new stimulus all at the same time. I like, I like Taylor's option. Um,
Starting point is 00:35:02 if we don't do the crossover double under and we just go into the parallette, or if we just do the, I don't know, maybe end it at the crossover double under, do more before the crossover double under, something like that. And then this next event, we have something we've never seen before also, right? Yeah, but the athletes won't struggle with this, at least not in that way. No. Do you think this is it for the gymnastics for the new gymnastics do you think we're done now we'll go into uh thursday friday saturday sunday and we're
Starting point is 00:35:31 done seeing uh new gymnastics yeah yeah gymnastics that haven't been introduced to the games before i think probably so i think this is probably it for things that are going to really, really bruise some egos. But I still think a lot of gymnastics is to come. Muscle-ups, rope climbs, handstand push-ups. Yeah. And I would think we would see handstand walking again in some form or fashion, but maybe not. Lucky camera strap, $7.99. I think 10 athletes in the final heat would have been a good middle ground
Starting point is 00:36:08 for getting more athletes to finish while still running same format. Yeah, I agree on that one too. I was like, I got the cut. It was nice. It was kind of clean the way they cut it, but I also thought, yeah, you have 10 lanes. Just use them all. Because there wasn't a transfer from two to three.
Starting point is 00:36:26 The jump was so big, right? Yeah. From doing double unders to this double under crossover. It was just so different. It wasn't – it's not like it's – again, it's not like it's a physical demand. It's a skill, and can you do the skill or not? And the problem is they didn't test the skill on the 40 athletes. They only tested the skill on five athletes. Yeah again hindsight's 2020 can't be too critical watching
Starting point is 00:36:52 nick matthew and gee crush it you were like wow that's how it's supposed to look that was awesome yeah absolutely when something like that comes up again that's how it will look for the whole field and it'll be a spectacle does it take the field only one year to be able to start doing those things next year at the games yeah that's everyone everyone will have crossovers everyone will have a tuck position to handstand the the outcome of that workout today was just a product of athletes never touching that before how often will you practice it now moving forward will you practice both of those once a week probably once a week probably so you'll get 50 looks at that between now and the games next year if not more i mean the crossover double under something that's easy to put into a warm-up you're not damaging anything by doing that five minutes to warm up rather than riding a c2 bike
Starting point is 00:37:40 uh tristan harrison it really looked like tia beat laura across the line i think she did beat her across the line i think she did beat her across the line that was the first heat though correct are you saying make it to the second heat who didn't tia tia okay right she took she was 21st right she missed it by one or something so what they're saying is it looked like tia beat laura to the line but laura was the last to make it into the second heat oh okay yeah i you're right you're right it did look like that unless that was in the unless that was in the second round that we're talking about maybe it was in the second round but you didn't make it to the second round
Starting point is 00:38:20 right okay sorry you're right you're right you're right you're right i get it uh lauren khalil hi khaleesi how are you you want to talk sure let's talk to her hey girl how's it going good what's up just just having fun just watching watching from afar up in the top screen as suza roaming around it looks like he's in the food court. Did he tell you how he jumped on my interview bandwagon? He's like, Hey dude, I got a great interview. I go, what do you mean? He goes, Lauren was interviewing people and I filmed it. I'm like, great. How's the audio? He goes, I haven't checked yet. I go, well, let's run that shit. I told him he needs to make sure at least half of my face is in the shot next time. Credit, credit. You got to get get you don't need to give me written credit just show
Starting point is 00:39:06 half my face and we're good hey that was my interview i don't know what you're talking about oh okay suze you were following me around looking for the good spots i don't remember that i don't know that lauren how much media is there you think there's outside i would say i would say more than any past years do you think there's outside? I would say more than any past years. Do you think there's a hundred people who are outside media? Um, I wouldn't go that far, but a lot. Yeah. A lot.
Starting point is 00:39:34 Are the pits crowded? Yeah. Awesome. And, um, and do you guys have good access? You know, we get the best access. Yeah. I mean, well, I mean, the pits are just messing around. Everybody pretty much gets the same amount of access.
Starting point is 00:39:50 Yeah. And the pits are incredible. You're right there. Go ahead, Taylor. I was going to ask you guys don't get access to the athletes in the warmup area. Do you? Everybody gets the same access with that kind of stuff. Unless you have like a personal relationship or connection.
Starting point is 00:40:09 Savvy. Okay. I gotta go. I gotta gotta go back in the day it was good bye nice to see you i kind of i kind of get anxious when i when i when as suze is walking around there why stress like stressed out like because like i like i don't know what it is like like the thought of me being there now would fucking i don't know what it is like like the thought of me being there now would fucking i don't think i could handle it i've gotten too old and sensitive walking around barefoot in my yard i've become too sensitive to the world yeah you never leave your house do you pee in jars like that movie the aviator yes i don't know how anyone could have watched that last event and felt that the fittest athlete won. But the thing is here, Teddy, is that there's 13 scored events. There's 13 scored events, and it's fucking pissing me off that people don't understand that just because it's not a barbell and it's not running and it's not a pull-up doesn't mean it's not fitness.
Starting point is 00:41:00 If you're not an athlete, you're not going to do well on that. fitness. If you're not an athlete, you're not going to do well on that. If you are a good athlete, um, and you're exposed to the skill or you can adapt quickly on the fly, you'll do well in that event. And that is a part of fitness being able to adapt on the fly. 100% is a part of fitness. And, and, and with the four days that are left Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, um, this will just become just one workout. Yeah, and there are more events. And the other thing that I like is the psychological tolerance of some athletes over others. Case in point, Tudor Magda and Daniel Branden.
Starting point is 00:41:38 Noah Olsen, throwing a temper tantrum on the floor is not going to get you more points. And that is also i think a part of fitness that to a degree has tested the games maybe not intentionally but in every sport it is rich is on camera saying that that's important well danielle brandon right basically shit the bed in the first workout had that fuck up didn't do enough lap but made up for it in this last one so we got to see her mental fortitude her comeback right and what she took third in that workout right no she won the workout and you just don't have to do it screaming what the fuck at your judge oh i like it i don't like i don't like that i don't like screaming at a judge like you watch
Starting point is 00:42:15 an nba game or you just you don't like people screaming at the ref same thing in the nfl i just i don't know i don't like that just shut the fuck up and listen to the ref. So she had the most crossovers. That's how she won it. Yeah. All the women were failing, and she just got the – she got deepest into the jump ropes. I thought I heard the commentators say that someone finished the crossovers, and it wasn't Danielle. We thought it was Elena, the Spanish girl.
Starting point is 00:42:46 Just because right at 3-2-1 time, she walked across the yellow line to where the handstand walk was. But I think she kind of threw a rope in frustration and just walked off with a couple seconds to go. Was like, fuck it. Okay. Can we pull up the workout that we are going to see start in eight minutes? Damn. Hi, Tyler. I'll give you guys a minute, and then I'll go.
Starting point is 00:43:14 Let's take a quick peek at it. Are we back in the Coliseum? Yes. I heard Mike Arsenault say it's the loudest Wednesday he's ever heard. Was it loud in there already? It was uncomfortably loud. It was the loudest thing I've been doing a long time. Wow, yeah, it does get really loud in there.
Starting point is 00:43:31 That's awesome. That makes me happy. Okay, 2115999. This is one of the girl workouts that's all juiced up. It's called, can you lower that just a little bit, Mr. Brandstetter? Elizabeth Elevated. This is the third scored event that we're going to see for today. It's basically your standard Elizabeth, but there's two rounds added to it. And on the parallettes, you have to break up all of these.
Starting point is 00:44:00 You have to do a third of the dips on one end of the parallettes, traverse to the other side, do a third of the dips, traverse back and do a third of the dips on one end of the parallettes traverse to the other side do a third of the um uh dips traverse back and do a third of the dips so for example if it's 21 you do 777 if it's 15 you do 555 if it's 9 you do 333 and then there's two more rounds my question is do you start doing dips or do you have to get on and traverse you traverse first so what it says is the first round will be a traverse then seven dips a second traverse then seven dips and a third traverse then seven dips so i'm curious as if it's going to be one set of parallel bars you get up you walk to the end do seven dips walk backward
Starting point is 00:44:38 to the back do seven dips walk forward do seven dips then advance to your next bar because if you're doing three sets every round, then you're going to go forward, backward, forward, and then you can advance to the next bar and then again to the next set of parallettes. So the second traverse is backwards. I don't know. That's speculation.
Starting point is 00:44:57 It's either backwards or they're going to jump down, turn around, and go back. I would think it would be backwards. I would think they would walk forward. Again, they have one 10-foot parallel bar. They jump up, walk forward, seven dips, walk backwards, seven dips, walk forward, seven dips, and then advance. But again, there's no stipulation here that they have to do it unbroken. That's 150 feet of walking on parallel ballers traversing parallel bars with
Starting point is 00:45:26 your hands and when we and when you say that i now i kind of rescind my previous comment about at some point yeah i don't think they're gonna handstand walk again after this and the handstand walk um this is gonna be brutal this is yeah we We're going to see people fail. I wonder where, if you come off, you obviously don't have to do these unbroken. No. And I don't think. Someone in the earlier show mentioned torn pecs like that regional year. A bar dip is way more tricep dependent than a ring dip.
Starting point is 00:46:01 A ring dip is far more pec dominant, at least in my personal experience. When I get on the rings and I do a big ring dip workout, my chest gets throttled. When I do bar dips a lot, it's my triceps. Women or men who are going to have more trouble with this, Tyler, you get the last word before you leave. Women or men, who's going to have more trouble with this? Oh, women for sure. This is all delts. All delts and all triceps awesome the front rack on that on that clean is gonna kill when you have to do dips it's gonna be terrible see y'all thank you okay what he's saying is is get when you go back to do the squat cleans this is going to be horrible because of traversing on the uh and in the yes because of traversing but in the sorry the description right here does
Starting point is 00:46:45 say unbroken during each round the dips must be split into three unbroken sets so you well so you don't have to do the 21 unbroken but within that you just have to do seven unbroken traverse and then you could come down and rest if you needed to i would assume so and no one's gonna do this shit unbroken right we're gonna no no one can right to do this shit on broken, right? We're going to, no, no one can, right? I don't think it would be smart to. And I, I wonder if they'll allow them to, to kip the dip. Oh, drive the knee up. I'm going to say yes.
Starting point is 00:47:22 I'm going to say the only thing they're going to be looking at is some sort of depth and then some sort of lockout. Yeah, that would be nice. We'll see if the athletes know how to do that. Again, it'll be something that would be a massive advantage for athletes that understand how to kip a dip, which everyone does on ring dips. But are they going to think to do that on the bars? It'll be interesting to see that. This is presented to you by Wild Chips.
Starting point is 00:47:43 I don't think I'm allowed to eat these. Okay. So they're saying they're letting the teams kip. The teams are kipping. Cool. Then I don't think it's going to be a huge issue for the women. I want to see the ingredients on this. They are going to allow kipping. Sorry. Is that what you said? Yeah. The teams are allowing kipping. Hey, you're reading the comments now. No, no, no, no, no, no. I'm looking at, i'm looking at the sponsor and i want to see what the ingredients are in these chips um and i don't know how to do it you read the nutrition label i just want to see if there i mean this it says basically high protein low carb keto friendly it looks like they're chicken breast strips it looks everything looks good but it says there's a himalayan pink salt one it looks so fucking good but i bet you there's like safflower oh here we go oh suza's got
Starting point is 00:48:29 them dried scrotum okay so let's hear it uh antibiotic free chicken check nate tapioca starch okay i don't know what that oh sunflower oil son of a i'm not and i can't have them no my wife doesn't let me eat that shit really you don't eat any seed oil i i don't think so no i don't we don't shop at costco savon is very sensitive he needs to drink a coca-cola what's wrong with costco man just everything there's dipped in um canola oil it's the first ingredient you buy a bike there and the first ingredient is canola oil um oh would you eat seed oils uh i don't go out and buy seed oils but i also don't i also have like some tortilla chips every now and then right right i'd be i'll go i went to a restaurant this weekend and had a handful of tortilla chips that i'm sure were fucking horrible for me yeah they
Starting point is 00:49:18 don't cook there's no brand of uh siete makes them without seed oils but those chips real tortilla chips are good colton mertens how's he gonna do is this just made for him i think this is a great workout for colton he could smack the fuck out of this i did the 2018 granite games qualifiers and he did that that year um and there was this workout that was bar facing burpees and hang squat cleans and he beat everyone in the qualifier by like almost a fucking minute and the rep scheme was like 12 9 6 3 6 9 12 so it wasn't a long workout it's like a four and a half minute workout and he did it in like three and a half minutes destroyed everyone so i think it's a great workout for him destroy god and could he do that could he take
Starting point is 00:50:05 first here i think he could take first place for sure uh he's i think this is i think it'll come down for the dips to the dips for him um he can for sure do the squat cleans unbroken and the range of motion is you know you hate to you hate to make that a point but it's a huge deal oh i'd love to make it a point fuck it he we got to lean into the fact that he's 4-1. He's going to fucking smash this. All right, good. And he knows it, too. I think this is an event that's like Celebrate 10 at Waterpalooza
Starting point is 00:50:33 where he goes in knowing he's going to fuck everyone up. So I'm excited to watch him. You should know. I've never had a restraining order against myself. I'm fucking too docile. But Instagram has banned my second account now. Yeah. Why'd they do that?
Starting point is 00:50:48 Because they're protecting you guys from fucking my misinformation. I misinformation. Uh, let's let, um, Matt Sousa, uh, get the final word.
Starting point is 00:50:59 Uh, Sousa in one minute, this shit, well, the event has started now. Why aren't you there? Uh, I was just waiting on the queue for you guys with the show here. I, the event has started now. Why aren't you there? I was just waiting on the queue for you guys with the show here.
Starting point is 00:51:08 I'm headed in there right now. I have to come all the way out and around to get to my entrance with the band, so that's where I'm going. Okay, guys. We will all be back. Brands that are in the back, Taylor Self here, Matt Souza, myself, hopefully maybe JR Howell, others, Tyler Watkins. We'll see you guys in a couple hours when this is all over. Oh can even tell you the exact time hold on 10 uh eastern if uh yeah about about 10 05 eastern and about 7 05 pacific standard looks like this individual event is two hours long
Starting point is 00:51:38 we'll see you guys later bye
