This is not a normal episode of the Unmade Podcast.
Hopefully it will be very short and it's more a podcast to make an announcement,
a very happy announcement, and tell you how it's going to affect the podcast.
As soon as people say this is not a normal episode,
I wonder how many are wondering, it's a Tommyball episode.
No, it's not a Tommyball.
I think the Tommyballs are some of our most favoured episodes.
I think people ask me all the time when we're going to have another Tommyball episode.
Well, that may come, but it won't be for a little while because my wife and I are pleased to announce we have had a baby boy just this week.
Hey, wow.
Incredible.
This is the best news.
I think that may be close to or even better than a new Tommy Ball episode.
Would you agree, Ben? I think it's up there. I think it's up there.
Certainly in the running. Fantastic news. But as a result,
I'm going to take a couple of months off from my usual workload, as one may expect. And this is
going to affect the production of the Unmade podcast. We're going to have a break for a couple
of months. Well, hang on a second. I just thought that meant we won't do Moon of the Week
for a little while. I thought that was our agreement.
You thought I was going to just give you a solo podcast for two months where you could
just talk about whatever you wanted. That's right. That's right. I'd have
free reign to do a good hour on my spoon to really get
into the nitty gritty of no i'm not going to
give you the passwords dim sorry uh yeah yeah you can't be you can't be trusted with that so um
just in terms of in terms of housekeeping yeah as i said probably two months of no unmade podcast
we think that's that's that's the plan for those of you who follow my videos there probably will
still be some videos being published because i have got some other people who work with me who i do trust
with passwords oh right there has been videos recorded so you will still see some videos on
my channels in terms of unmade podcast patreon as you probably all know people only get charged
when episodes go up so there'll be no no charges or cost obviously while we're not making episodes
so please don't
unsubscribe to patreon we're going to need you when we get back uh and as a little sort of bonus thing when i do have little bits of spare time tim and i will perhaps put little little jokes
and little bits of pieces and a little bit of content still on the patreon feed just to keep
all you guys entertained and happy and to know that we're all okay and i probably will do a few
little prize draws as well you know cards and spoons and that and to know that we're all okay. And I probably will do a few little prize draws as well, you know,
cards and spoons and that, and just announce that on the Patreon.
So do keep an eye on that.
I will keep that going even though there'll be no episodes for a little while.
Cool.
I have a million questions, man.
People will have a million questions.
Yes, this is true.
And I'm probably going to have my podcast ideas are probably going to start
trending a little bit baby and child oriented, too, when we do come back.
So I don't want to I want to keep my powder dry and I don't want this episode to run too long.
But if you've got any key questions, I'll answer a couple now if you want.
Well, where do we start? I'm trying to think what people would want to know.
So this is a boy. You have a son.
Had a boy. Yes.
Healthy and well and strong and...
Very, very healthy.
Everything's good.
And my wife's also really healthy and well.
And I know I've made lots of jokes in the past about how all babies look the same.
And all babies do kind of look the same.
I'm a man of my word.
They do look like babies.
That's right.
Yes.
But, and I don't know, I feel like he's really good looking.
I feel like he's a good looking baby.
And I don't know whether or not, you know, we've gotten lucky and he's got his mum's jeans
or I'm already wearing those amazing dad goggles.
And I just look at him so full of love and pride and think,
God, he's such a good looking baby.
But I think he's a good looking baby.
Do you know what I think?
I don't disagree with you, but do you know what I think that really suits him?
It's the beard.
He's got a,
he's come out with a fantastic beard,
just like yours.
And that's surprising to have a fully formed hipster beard right from birth.
But gosh,
that really suits him.
And like,
there's a million things I look forward to telling you all about
And Tim I've been telling you some of it obviously offline as well
But two funny things that I have noticed have happened in these first few days
One is I'm getting incredible nostalgia for my own childhood
And I was shopping last night like for essential things for the baby
And then I just bought a big pack of what you and I would call rice bubbles or british people would call rice krispies i just wanted that like childhood
breakfast cereal and the other thing i was doing all last night i was on ebay browsing and shopping
for star wars children's storybooks that i had as a kid yes nice and getting incredible nostalgia
for them and like and like making bids on them all. And looking through all the kiddie Star Wars stuff that you can buy that's vintage from the actual 1980s made me realise my parents bought me a lot of Star Wars stuff.
Because almost every single book or toy or thing I look at, I go, oh, I had that.
Oh, I had that too.
Oh, yes, I remember that.
And I'm thinking, is there anything my parents didn't buy me
that was Star Wars related?
Like, it's amazing.
I think a toy store back then, it was basically,
there was the girls' section, which had Barbies and Cabbage Patch dolls.
And then there was the boys' section, which had either He-Man figurines,
Transformers, and just aisles and aisles of Star Wars stuff.
It was just total blanket merchandising back then.
So I am buying him like, I'm not buying him like Star Wars toys,
but I've bought him a few like Star Wars,
like child read along type books,
but he's still not going to be able to do those for years as well.
So I really probably need to throttle back on that,
but it's just, it's a bit overwhelming at the moment.
Well, you can read them and you can read them to him as well.
That's the brilliant part.
Exactly. That's the brilliant part. Exactly.
I'm just wondering, you've mentioned your lovely wife, the lady colonel,
and I'm just wondering, I mean, this is an incredible achievement,
largely her achievement, let's be honest.
Yes.
I wondered, is it unprecedented? Is there a conflict of interest for colonel status to be attributed?
I did consider it. I did consider it. But I think as magnificent as it is to become for colonel status to be attributed i did consider it i did consider it
but i think as magnificent as it is to become a colonel i think she's gone beyond that i think
it would belittle her achievement and what she's done and what she's doing to make her a mere
colonel you're alluding to the fact there might be a status higher than colonel i mean you've
you've said before that host is higher than colonel i'm not totally sure about that i think
she's above that as well.
I think she's almost like the president, isn't she?
So she's like, you know.
Certainly of your home, I'm sure that's the case.
Yes, yes.
No, and the podcast.
Madam President.
That's how we'll refer to her from now on.
Madam President.
That's fantastic.
She has been amazing.
So enough about me and my baby and me being a proud dad.
We'll save that for when the podcast comes back,
where there may be a little bit too much of it.
I don't know.
I think Tim's going to have to rein me in.
We're going to get to moon of the week and it's going to be like,
this reminds me about something that happened with my baby boy.
Exactly.
So very quickly, there's one other special family milestone that's coinciding with about now,
about almost coinciding with the birth of my little boy, and that is the hashtag Jerry100.
What are we going to call it?
Yeah, that's pretty good.
A Jerry century or something like that.
Tell us. It's pretty good. A jerry sentry or something like that. Yeah. Tell us.
It's a shame. I was hoping for a perfect match coinciding birthday for my dad.
But look, it's only come out by about, whatever, 10 days or a couple of weeks.
Because in a few days time, it would have been my father's 100th birthday.
That's an incredible achievement,
but he hasn't achieved it, of course.
He fell quite short, if we're honest.
But, yeah.
Yeah.
He always felt like, he always felt 100 to me, though.
He did.
I think he's like one of those cars where there's not a lot of kilometres
on, you know, the speedometer,
but that's because it's already gone around once
and come around for the second time.
I feel like Dad's like that.
He didn't quite reach 100,
but maybe he's actually gone around and come around again.
Yeah.
We always joke about Tim's dad being so old
because he had Tim quite late in life.
So compared to all the other dads, you know,
like my dad and all our friends' dads,
he was a lot older than the other dads.
So it was always a joke that he was old. old but uh but there you go he would have been
a hundred coming up are you doing anything to mark to mark the milestone or well look i haven't
planned anything but i may i may visit mum just briefly i know you say that i don't say but i
might just pop in that That would be nice.
And check in on her.
But we might go and have, normally we'd do something like have KFC to celebrate because that was dad's favourite food as well.
We won't be doing that because, of course, I'm on my KFC fast.
But we might do something special.
I think I'll want to be with her on that day.
And, yeah, to celebrate, you know, 100 years since dad was born, seems incredible really doesn't it gosh that's back before iphones that's a long time ago oh yeah
yeah i always think of my dad's age in relation to the zipper like apparently he's only 10 years
younger than the invention of the of the zipper you know a zip that you use on your jeans
which just you know what i mean just gives you some level of context of you know it's basically the middle of the industrial revolution that's when it feels
like my dad was your dad's birthday is actually closer to the building of the pyramids than it is
to today which is a fact not a lot of people realize did your dad ever tell you what it was
like watching the pyramids being built no no but i did think about it because of course he is buried
under one he's yeah he preserved a spot under the great pyramid yeah you can buy them at that stage there's one
big one for the pharaoh obviously and then there was his family and then you could actually buy
it a lot but and uh dad's got a deposit down he got in early that's right next time you're in
egypt just remember um oh i i was going to ask if does he have a memorial or a gravestone or
somewhere you can go and like you know pay your respects yeah no he's buried in a large sort of
centennial park it's called which is a large uh cemetery here in in you know sort of suburban
adelaide uh yep he's buried there yep and it's a pretty standard sort of grave and we'll probably
go along there with mum and and uh mark
the day yeah by by another coincidence it was actually his funeral was on his birthday as well
so he actually died just the week of his birthday and then his funeral was on his 86th birthday so
this will be a a day marking i always remember it particularly because it's you're remembering
not just it's his birthday but also um the date of his funeral as well so yeah it is a bit of a special day well
if i ever get to leave the house and go out for a drink again i will be sure to raise a glass to
him as well as my little boy two uh lovely two two important men in my life, for sure. Yes, fantastic. And, of course, he was a wonderful model to you
of what it is to be an older father.
Yes.
You're following in his footsteps.
This is not lost on me when we make jokes about your dad.
That's going to be me.
One day when your son's doing a podcast
and talking about the Ancient of Days,
it won't be my father he's talking about.
It will be his own.
Yes, yes.
This is an irony a lot lost on me.
It's come around full circle.
All right.
The circle of life.
How fantastic.
All right.
Thank you, everyone, for humouring Tim and I
as we have a bit of family nostalgia.
And as I said, I'm sorry we'll be vanishing
for a little bit of what is my summer and Tim's winter,
but we will still be in touch on Patreon
and, of course, on social media and all the usual places.
And we will be coming back refreshed, maybe,
full of new ideas and spoons and moons
and whatever else the future holds.
This is a bit of podcast paternity leave, really, isn't it?
It is. That's what it's called. Exactly. Or just paternity leave a bit of podcast paternity leave, really, isn't it? It is.
That's what it's called.
Yep.
Or just paternity leave.
It's just paternity leave.
That's right.
All right.
Congratulations again.
I know everyone everywhere will be squealing with delight
and thrilling and raising their glasses in congratulations too.
And I'll keep sending you messages and pictures, Tim,
and you can be all mushy and emotional like you are.
I know, I know.
It's like we've switched from amazingly awesome cute photos of Audrey
to amazingly cute awesome photos of your son.
And it's just, yeah, I can't get enough.
Fantastic.
Let me ask, how has Audrey gone with a new young girl?
Audrey the Chihuahua is adapting quickly and well.
She was a bit curious and that and, and that, but she's been really good.
I'll post some pictures as well showing Audrey and the bub,
but Audrey's doing really well.
She's adjusted well to her little brother.
They're a similar size, really, aren't they, at the moment?
Audrey is lighter.
Right.
Okay.
Already, okay.
So there we go.
That's good.
Yes. All right. Super. Thank you, sir. Right. Okay. Already. Okay. So there we go. That's good. Yes.
All right.
Super.
Thank you, sir.
Fantastic.
