HelloFresh.
Red hot comic book movie news.
Shooting up your butt hole.
The Weekly Planet.
The Weekly Planet.
My favorite time of the year of The Weekly Planet is when it's your birthday because you had the privilege of doing the introduction to the show.
Oh, I love it.
It is my honor.
All right, hang on.
All right, hang on. I can do it.. It is my honour. Hang on. Hang on.
I can do it.
Welcome back once again to the Weekly Blood, a podcast that's all about movies and TV shows
and comic books and video games sometimes.
I'm Nick Mason.
That's me.
And here's another guy.
It's James, Mr. Sunday Movies.
Hi.
I'm jumping after the intro.
Oh, no.
I've set the trend here.
I've got a thing to say
And we're all talking like this now
Now I have to offer you this
Every time I feel
Do you want to do it every week?
No
Well
No
One day I'll get you
Yeah
I would get a chance to practice all my crazy voices
Wouldn't I?
Don't you want that?
Kind of
Yeah okay
Well think about it
Let's just hold off till next week okay
You'll forget
And then I'll ask you next week
And you'll be like, wait, what?
I said, what?
I didn't prepare a crazy voice.
I'm going to have to use this regular voice.
Okay, let's do trailer talk up top, Mason.
I thank you also for my birthday present,
which is Claire taking away all the microphone stands.
Why did you do it, Claire?
So now I have to hold this microphone in my hand like a chump.
On your birthday?
On my birthday.
I had a big old rant about it because Claire often takes the microphones to record the
Millennial Divide, which is a great podcast people should listen to as well.
It's a great podcast, but is it so great that I have to hold this microphone in my hand?
No, quite frankly not.
Because every time she takes it, she's like, I'm like, please don't take it because I have
to set it up.
And she's like, I'll set it up.
But I'm like, you literally never set it up.
Like, we came into the room and you said to me,
is this a deconstructed podcast?
This is simbits.
It's like an autopsy of our podcast.
It's like it's a crime scene.
They're like, there's been a crime against podcasting in this room.
Let's take everything apart and see what happens.
And it's on your birthday.
And it's on my birthday.
So happy birthday.
Thank you.
And what better way to celebrate your birthday?
No, go ahead.
I was going to say.
I'm going to interrupt again.
It's your birthday.
This is like when I had to buy you and Claire separate memory cards for Christmas.
Because for some reason, despite doing all right, you guys have one memory card.
Guess where they're gone?
I bet they're gone.
They're gone.
And they were expensive.
You got like 64 gig ones, dude.
I did, that's true.
You got like two.
They're both gone.
We're working off this 16 gigabyte one like a fool.
Oh, the classic.
I'm deleting it on the fly.
Actually, we've got 20 minutes left on this.
I'm going to have to unplug this at some point.
We're going to get a real head of steam going.
Yeah.
And then we're going to have to switch cards.
God fucking damn everything, Mason.
Well, it's my birthday.
It is.
And happy birthday.
Guess what? This is exactly what I want. I said, hey, Well, it's my birthday. It is. And happy birthday. Guess what?
This is exactly what I want.
I said, hey, Claire, can you take out...
I want to see James really flip his lid.
What can you do for me?
And she's like...
I've got just the thing.
Anyway.
Trailers ahoy, Mason.
Oh, yes.
No theme.
Okay, I could have.
It's going to be a long episode.
Okay, right.
So let's just...
It goes...
And then it goes trailers ahoy.
And then there's some dubstep.
Very good. Look it up. Yeah. Terminator Dark Fate has its first trailer. Yeah. a long episode so let's just it goes and then it goes trailers ahoy and then there's some dubs very
good look it up yeah uh terminated dark fate has its first trailer yeah uh what did you think of
terminated dark fate bearing in mind i did a great trailer breakdown i'll link it below i like it
because i like i just i just want to see what happens to the terminator universe at this point
i don't necessarily think the movie is going to be good i don't think it's going to be bad it looks
better than three four and and 5, I think.
I thought 3 looked...
No, I thought 4 looked really good in the trailer.
In the trailer, right.
Yeah.
But no, I like a lot of the people behind this film.
And apparently there's some stuff in it that we haven't seen
and what it's really about.
Do you mean some scenes not set on a highway?
Exactly.
I have a question.
Is it always on a highway?
Yes.
Are Tim Miller's movies all on highways? Well, every Terminator film has not set on a highway? Exactly. I have a question. Is it always on a highway? Yes. Are Tim Miller's movies all on highways?
Well, every Terminator film has a chase on a highway.
I guess that's true, but all of Tim Miller's movies seem to be very heavily highway-focused.
You mean his one movie, Deadpool.
Yeah, Deadpool.
I didn't do Deadpool 2, did you?
No, you didn't.
Okay.
I suspect he's like secretly just a huge fan of transport infrastructure or something like that.
And then he's just like...
I know you are.
If I make the best Deadpool movie ever made, they will let me make as many movies with freeway chases as possible.
I bet he loves those mobile phone games where you get to direct traffic.
Yeah.
Whatever they're called.
Yeah.
It's probably called happy traffic or something.
Happy traffic.
Exactly.
Yeah.
He's the happiest traffic manager of them all.
You play it for 17 minutes and it hits you up for gems that you've got to buy. Yeah. And you're like, fine. Click, click, click. I just the happiest traffic manager of them all. You play it for 17 minutes, then it hits you up for gems that you've got to buy.
Yeah, right.
And you're like, fine, click, click, click.
I just want to manage this traffic.
Yeah, look, I think it looks kind of cool.
I like some of the ideas in it.
I really like the idea of the new Terminator.
Do you like the idea of them spoiling
all the elements of this movie in this trailer?
I don't think they have yet, as of yet.
They've spoiled the Terminator, though, haven't they't they you know the funny thing about this is as well this is the
third attempt at a terminator trilogy this is a trilogy of failed trilogies if this one fails
so it was terminator one two and three was that intended to be the original trilogy that was the
original trilogy well it was only supposed to be one and two okay right and then they were like
okay salvation will kick off in your trilogy yeah and that was going to be four and five or is five where john connor has his new heart
because his heart got punched but then he turned it then he turns into a nanotech robot
is that supposed yes but that that genesis is not linked to salvation i believe so that's an
that's an or it is because it's set after so it might be yeah doesn't matter so that's in a... Or it is because it's set after. So it might be.
Yeah.
Doesn't matter.
No, it absolutely doesn't matter.
And then Sarah Connor Chronicles ignores all of them.
Yes.
Except for one and two.
Yeah.
Okay.
So that's good.
Yeah, it is good.
I feel.
Yeah.
I like the idea of a Terminator splitting in two and you've got the skeleton and the liquid
metal man.
Yeah.
So I think there's benefits to both.
You know what I mean?
For sure.
If you're in a rumble.
Yeah.
And if there's two of you.
And one can fit in a little box.
Imagine if you're in a fight and you could separate your skeleton from yourself and your skeleton could fight.
And my grisly death would be horrifying to everyone and they would leave.
I'd end that fight so quick because I'd be like, yeah, all right, you guys are going to beat me up.
But watch this.
Splatter.
Splatter, yeah.
It looks good.
I like the cast
yeah me too
yeah
what's Mackenzie Davis been in
Mike Mira
oh yeah okay
she's in the
San Junipero
oh that's who that is
yeah
cool nice
she's really good
she's in a bunch of stuff
yeah nice
of course Sarah Connor's back
is she the nerd
yeah she's the nerd
in San Junipero
Arnold's back
he said he'll be back
he's back
he's not the liquid Terminator Arnold from Terminator Genisys.
Don't get confused.
Oh, no.
I've forgotten about that.
He becomes a super Terminator at the end of Terminator 5.
Oh, man.
Because his chip goes into the liquid metal.
That was so good.
It makes sense.
I'm going to watch Terminator Genisys tomorrow.
Don't do it.
No, I'm going to, though.
I'm going to pay five bucks and rent it for some reason.
I think it's on Netflix.
Is it?
Okay.
I doubt it is. Now that we've mentioned it, it won't be. I think it's on Netflix. Is it? Okay. I doubt it is.
Now that we've mentioned it, it won't be.
I'll bet you $1,000.
No, I looked the other day.
It was.
Yeah, but now it's not.
Now that you've thought about it, it's gone.
The thing about these movies are...
Yes.
I think Salvation is terrible.
Yeah.
I was really excited for that one, and it bitterly disappointed me.
But I think that was the right direction to get away from the...
It's not on Netflix.
It's gone.
The first result, I looked up Terminator.
The first result is the sixth day, the clone movie.
Oh, yeah, that makes sense.
Then Doom, and then Last Stand, a movie where...
Arnold comes back.
That's his first one back from when he was governor.
I watched it.
It's totally serviceable.
Yeah.
And Johnny Knoxville's in it.
And then Total Recall remake.
Reboot remake.
Yeah, not the original.
But it's closer to the book, Mason.
Yeah, it is.
It's closer to the book.
It's true.
I've said that.
I believe it.
There's an elevator through the planet or whatever.
Anyway, what were we talking about?
Is it set on the moon?
I don't remember.
I thought you said this was going to be a long one.
It's going to be a long one, Mason.
It's going to be a long one, yeah.
After this Terminator segment, I'm changing memory cards.
So remind me.
Okay, all right, cool.
Yeah, but Salvation took it out of the send a person back to kill a person.
That's true, it did, yeah.
And I think that was a good move.
And then they went, well, that, no.
What if we, again.
Send a person back to kill a person.
To kill a person or what else.
And to save a person.
But this time, one of the good guys is the bad guy.
Which is a real twist, except for the fact that this guy
isn't the actor you recognise from any of the previous movies,
so it makes zero impact.
That's exactly right.
Fun fact about Terminator 2, Mason.
Yes.
Originally the T-1000 was going to be Michael Biehn,
so it was going to have his likeness.
So then they're like, Michael Biehn's back,
and he's like, just kidding, I've got knives for hands.
And they're like, oh, this isn't Michael Biehn at all.
And then after that little incident on set,
he was fired and they replaced him with Robert Patrick.
Hey, we wanted to meet Michael Bean.
I've got knives for hands.
Get out of here, Michael Bean.
We're calling security.
Okay, so reading through...
We need a guy from Filters Brother.
Yes.
Really?
Yeah, he's the guy from Richard Patrick and Robert Patrick.
I didn't know that.
There you go.
Who would have thought the Patrick Brothers were brothers?
I know, right?
I just called them the Patrick Brothers as a joke, Mason.
Oh, yeah, cool. Yes. Yeah, nice. Okay, right? I just called them the Patrick brothers as a joke, Mason. Oh, yeah, cool.
Yeah, nice.
Okay, so what I've noticed about the comments on my video is,
first of all, a lot of people don't like this trailer,
which I can understand.
But there's also a lot of racism and bigotry in the comments.
Yeah, I picked out one of my favourites that I thought we could read out.
I gave you a preview of it before the show.
So this is on your video of the trailer breakdown?
Yeah.
This is from Darth Yu Yvonne.
Okay.
I'll be called a bigot for saying this.
Great start.
But this trailer implies that there's going to be a major focus on lesbian relationships.
Not really.
It doesn't.
I don't really.
There's a bit where the woman who's being protected is asleep in someone's lap.
Yep.
I don't think that's...
Like a lesbian would.
Like a lesbian would yeah i'm not a woman and i'm not a lesbian just to clarify that's not
me saying that okay right though that is true that's so weird that an obnoxious internet commenter
would be a man and so if it's going to be like this i won't be able to relate to it much so i
won't be able to watch it it seems similar to to me if they remade aliens
uh and the crew were buzzcut women and one male droid or it says on male droid you get it it would
feel less about the story more about politic more about politics so i'm bored with it so there you
go the major cast members of alien are a woman no he'd be bored with it or she yeah yeah yeah
you're right yeah so that's a good then that's like a tame one. Like, there's a lot of, like, whoa, that's...
Yeah, right.
That's pretty heavy stuff.
Yeah, right.
And there's a lot of, like, this will ruin the franchise or whatever.
Most of these are bad.
Oh, yeah.
If you look at them, two of them are good.
Yes.
Three of them are bad.
This is going to...
No, he meant this is going to ruin the new trilogy.
All the previous trilogies are bad, but this one is going to ruin the new one.
Yeah, so there you go.
I don't know if it will, though.
It could be good.
Look, I think it could be, too.
I don't think this trailer does it any favors.
Okay, so do you have any wild cockamamie theories about what's happening in this?
Arnold has said he's the T-800, but I think he's the template.
And apparently there's going to be flashbacks, and they're going to be using digital.
Body doubles?
Yeah, and John Connor's the kid.
Oh, okay, because there's no John Connor in this trailer. this trailer no i think he's dead i said this in my trailer
what's the trailer breakdown mates all right time for this we got a big show and a big day
a couple of big birthday boys just you but good on you no but i've split myself in two oh right
oh no i've got one version of myself is holding the microphone stand thanks claire and the other
one's talking.
Do I have some theories?
Oh, yeah, sorry.
Do you have some theories?
At one point she does say, she's like, this lady's like me.
Maybe she's pregnant.
Oh, yeah.
This new lady.
Yeah.
Also, it's pretty late in the day to be giving birth to the saviour of humanity.
I mean, we're hitting on 2019.
Yeah, right?
Like, when's Judgment Day?
I think it moved again.
Yeah, obviously. Because the last one was
in 2015, and the one before that was in
2003, whenever Part 3
came out. Yeah, right. And 2
it was 1997. Yeah.
So, yeah, I think
yeah, they've moved Judgment Day. And they
moved it in Sarah Connor Chronicles. Yeah, I
think we've reached the point
way beyond the point where it's not a fixed
date of like, you know, in the first two,
it was like 2029.
That's when they go back in time because the war is over and blah, blah, blah.
I think that's been blown out.
Like I think at this point it's like the machines just want to make
Judgment Day happen regardless of when kind of thing.
They're not set on a date.
They're not set on a date.
They'll have a spring one.
They'll have a winter one.
They don't care.
Apocalypse.
It's fine. They don't want a winter one. No, you're no right like at least let people enjoy the summer as well i'm saying it's probably true i don't know like it might be it might be that
john connor is dead but then it turns out he doesn't need to be the savior yeah exactly so
then maybe sarah connor's received a message from the future like actually this this lady's kid is
gonna save you do you think it's a carrier pigeon through time? Is that what you're saying? Yeah, absolutely. I knew it.
I knew you thought that.
I like a lot of this,
but I don't like this trailer very much.
I think it's pretty flat.
If I wasn't like,
oh, the dude from Deadpool's doing it
and apparently James Cameron's highly involved.
Because even though he gave Genesis the big old thumbs up,
he didn't have anything to do with it.
No.
And he saw the first 10 minutes. Yeah, and he saw the first 10 minutes yeah he saw the first 10 minutes which looked like
terminator one it's a i like this i think it's great that's why i'm gonna watch it tomorrow i
know you are i'm gonna watch the bit at the start that looks like the first terminator and then i'm
gonna go to the end when it's arnold is liquid metal super terminator yeah he was back we'll
never find out what we're gonna talk who directed that last one it doesn't matter but let's find
let's let's email him and be like what was the plan question oh no it was uh it was was it the
dude who did thor the dark world maybe i think it is i think we should email that guy or tweet
at him or something and be like what was the plan for terminator your terminator 6 what are you up
to because it was it was it was even unclear i got the sense in the last one that it was old Skynet teaming up with new Skynet.
I don't remember.
Through time and they were going to defeat humanity or something because then there were two of them.
All I remember was that I saw that movie and then I immediately got on a flight to Japan.
All right.
So I don't know.
So you were.
All of a sudden you forgot all about the Terminators
and you just became obsessed with the artificial intelligence,
like B-Day Toilet in Japan, right?
Exactly.
Oh, yes.
Guess what?
That's the one that's going to destroy humanity.
I don't want that.
Yeah, the toilet is.
I don't want that.
No, it is.
They should bring those toilets here, by the way.
That's what I'm saying.
You would say that because you've been converted by the Japanese toilet.
Directed by Alan Taylor.
Yeah, I think he did Thor The Dark World.
Okay, right.
That sounds also, though, like a fake name, like an Alan Smithy.
Yeah, no, he definitely did.
If you don't want to admit you directed Thor The Dark World.
Because he did a bunch of good Game of Thrones episodes.
Oh, right.
Yeah.
Anyway, let's change the memory card.
Okay.
Maybe goodbye.
We'll see.
We're back.
I did it.
We're back, baby.
Okay. I have more thoughts about Dark Fate. Just i don't know i don't save them for november whatever this comes out yeah cool
nah do you see the promo for picard all i'm saying is i think it looks like bits and pieces of all
the other terminator movies smushed together yeah which yeah most of them are i guess yeah
it's true i did see the picard trailer yes and looks And? Looks pretty... Is it an ad for wine? We wondered that, didn't we?
Is it?
Yeah.
Yeah, almost certainly.
Because the premise, Picard's family, they're all vintners, except for him.
There's an episode, I think, of the Star Trek The Next Generation where he meets up with his brother.
And his brother's like, why'd you abandon the family business?
Is his name Luke John Picard?
No, if only it was. Meh, yeah'm good yeah what is what is his real name robert picard i think boo which is weird it's not it's not french at all is it not at all yeah but he's
like why'd you abandon the family business and because like i had to save the universe a bunch
of times fucking idiot what a ridiculous thing to say exactly what a moron yeah but then they have a
they have a they have a talking.
They have a wine and a chat.
Wine and a chat, yeah.
So is that how Star Trek The Next Generation ended up?
He went and retired on a farm or whatever?
He retired on a farm. Doesn't it cut to the future or something?
I can't remember.
And everyone's old and Geordi's like, why is it different?
There is a, there is a, yeah, there is a segment set in the future.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It looks more next.
Enterprise has an extra engine.
And a cloaking device. Is it attached? Can you believe it? Yeah, I believe it. It is attached, yes the future. Yeah. Yeah. It looks more next. Enterprise has an extra engine. And a cloaking device.
Is it attached?
Can you believe it?
Yeah, I believe it.
It is attached, yes.
Good.
That's good.
Not like a spare tire.
They just drag behind with a chain.
It's hanging off the back of a chain like somebody just got married.
Riker and Data got married, so they're like, woo, everybody.
Do you think they're going to bring-
It flies through an asteroid field of rice.
I think it looks more Star Trek The Next Generation
than it does Discovery.
I think they...
Because a lot of people don't like the aesthetic or the...
I like Discovery quite a lot.
Me too, I like it a lot, yeah.
So this, I think this will please people.
No, what am I talking about?
It's going to make everyone upset.
Exactly.
But I think maybe this is probably has been put together as kind of a counterpoint of upset. Exactly. But I think maybe this is, this is probably, has been put together
as kind of a counterpoint
of Discovery.
Yeah.
Discovery is like,
Discovery,
one of the reasons
some people dislike it
is it doesn't have
the idealistic notions
of next generation
and stuff like that.
It's kind of like,
yeah, people are scumbags.
Yeah.
What do you reckon about that?
They're all in it for themselves.
I don't disagree.
Whereas next generation's like,
we've reached a utopia
and everything's cool now.
But every admiral is secretly a lunatic.
Yeah, right?
Yeah.
But I think this one's going to be, you know, more of a,
yeah, it is pretty nice to live in a vineyard.
He doesn't look broken, which I think is good.
You mean Patrick Stewart?
Like you come in and he's just like, I've had too much war.
And the Borg did something to my brain and my dick.
I don't like to talk about it
it's hanging off the back on a chain
yeah
is this the one where he
kind of like
he acquires a ragtag crew
and they're like
we're very cynical
and he's like
how about you be less cynical
and they're like
good point Captain Picard
and he's like
I do that often
also I'm 110 years old
what is he like 78 in real life? I don't know he's still got it you better believe he's like, I do that often. Yeah. Also, I'm 110 years old.
What is he, like 78 in real life?
I don't know.
He's still got it.
You better believe he's still got it. And if he doesn't, he's going to get it back.
Yeah.
Speaking of someone who's still got it and getting it back.
All right.
John Wick 4 has a release date of May 4th, 2021.
Okay.
It's an exciting time if you're a John Wick fan, which we somewhat are.
We go back and forth.
Yeah, we did an episode last week.
A lot of people asked what happened with the episodes last week.
Something happened with the Spotify and Google Drive feed, but it's on other things.
They're tweaking it.
I don't know.
It's got nothing to do with me.
If it doesn't appear on a platform, if it's not YouTube, I don't know.
Yeah.
So don't ask me.
But it's always on planetbroadcasting.com.
That's right.
So just go there.
If you can't find it anywhere else, go to planetbroadcasting.com.
You can play it off your phone.
Yeah, that's right.
So I'm sorry.
I'm not good at that.
I can't help you.
What do we got?
Yeah.
So yeah, good, I guess.
You're good at other things.
Yeah.
Am I?
Yeah.
I feel like I'm barely okay at like a thousand things.
Oh, yeah.
But none of them I'm good at.
Good.
Like I'm just okay at a bunch of shit.
Uh-huh. Yeah. So that's good, isn't it? That's my legacy. Just be an average. Oh yeah But none of them I'm good at Good Like I'm just okay At a bunch of shit Yeah
So that's good isn't it
That's my legacy
Just being average
You could work really hard
On one thing
I don't want that
Let all your other skills
Atrophy
Yeah
That's an option
That's good I guess
Nah I don't want that either
Okay then good
Yeah
Like I can hang a painting
Not well
I could do it
I don't want to do it
You hung these acoustic tiles
I did actually
Actually I didn't do that one
Because that one's a bit lower
Notice that
That was not me I did these ones look at these ones oh straight as a
fucking arrow yeah right that's it that's your calling we found it it was oh no i hated it took
me forever took me forever no i'm average at a bunch of things you weren't listening no but you're
great at this so this is what you have to go into yeah fair enough you're gonna be the you're gonna
be the andre agassi of putting up acoustic tile. But he hated going down.
That's what I'm saying.
He was great at it.
You're going to make millions putting up tiles for everybody else who has a podcast.
Yeah, exactly.
For the ever-growing Australian podcast Hope Studio market.
Mm-hmm.
Yeah.
What are we talking about?
I've forgotten.
Well, every podcast now is like a comedian, but some of his friends.
Like a famous-ish comedian and some of their friends like a famous comedian and some of their we escape
that because we're not comedians and we don't have any friends exactly but i feel like that's
kind of a shame because a lot of the podcasts i like are like regular people yeah right now
that being said there are some good comedians as well do go on great stuff and that's the only one
i'll i like good uh anyway sorry there's new Star Wars images uh there's a lot of uh
there's a lot of they're talking there was a variety oh yeah the Knights of Ren were there
Knights of Ren are there there's apparently there's more I was under the impression they
were like force users but yeah like mostly regular Joes well maybe they've they've got a bunch of
different weapons because like we don't have to wear robes anymore I could wear what I want
people like you know maybe you shouldn't maybe you should wear a uniform maybe wear the uniform
so people know I'm wearing my just wearing my just let my underpants
hang out they say home of the whopper on the front you know and they're like maybe put some
robes there's a different universe where'd you even get those oh ps we're introducing parallel
realities and time travel oh they already did time travel why are these underpants that's right
apparently there's going to be a bigger connection to Ray and Kylo than we know.
Okay.
So they're related or they're going to kiss.
I've got to stop saying people are going to kiss.
I feel like I said that too much.
But maybe they're going to kiss though.
Maybe you're hopeful.
Yeah, exactly.
Yeah.
Would you rather they murder each other?
Yes.
Huh.
Yeah.
Or one murders the other.
All right.
Apparently, this is not a spoiler.
Well, it is a bit of a spoiler, but this is from Variety.
Somebody let slip on set that a major character is going to die,
which wouldn't surprise me,
but that could be like R2-D2 or C-3PO.
I wouldn't say they die.
It could be a Poe Dameron.
Didn't they kill one of the newer people?
I'd be like, Poe Dameron, you're good, but you did a sacrifice.
Well, I mean, how many original cast members are left to die?
I don't think they'll kill Lando,
and I don't think they'll kill General Leia,
because people don't like that.
No.
Yeah.
Who do you think?
Will Chewie get hit by a moon again, like he did in the books?
Just get out of the way.
Get out of the way.
What are you thinking?
It's so big.
It's so obvious.
Move out of the way. I reckon it might be? It's so big. It's so obvious. Don't move out of the way.
I reckon it might be Poe or Finn.
Yeah, I agree.
Because they've got the bro friendship that can never die.
Yes.
So make one of them die.
Yeah.
And that would hit people hard, I think.
I think Abrams would probably go, well, a lot of people don't like that Jedi has no
stakes with the main characters because Han Solo was supposed to die.
So they might go, well, yeah, like you said, Poe Dameron or Finn.
So I'm with you on that.
Kerry Russell's character was introduced.
We got a cleaner photo.
Space Felicity.
Probably Rey's mom or whatever.
Yeah, right.
Also, you know that new sand planet,
that sand planet we thought was an old sand planet?
Oh, yeah.
It's a new sand planet.
It's called Pasaana.
Oh.
Like the bread.
Oh.
I don't think there's a bread called Pasaana.
I was going to say like the meditation.
Yeah, is it? Vipasaana. I was going to say like the meditation. Yeah, is it?
Vipassana.
Oh, very good.
Silent meditation.
Isn't all meditation silent?
It's very silent.
Oh.
It's like a week where you can't talk.
A friend of ours did it.
Oh, yeah, Pip.
Yeah.
She went mad doing it.
She went mad doing it.
She's never been the same.
She's still recovering.
Yeah.
Yeah.
She eats paper now.
Yeah.
I've thought about doing that, but I think it would break me.
I genuinely think it would break me.
Because I have to watch TV and be on my phone and edit at the same time.
And if one of those things disappear, I just don't know what I'll do.
Exactly.
Yeah, so that's all good.
Anyway, Star Wars news, you love it?
I do love it.
Not really, but speaking of characters dying,
I think I read just before we started here uh that harrison ford said
uh i think indiana jones should die when i do did you read that yeah i saw the interview yeah
he's like nobody should blame yeah right after me interesting yeah i'm okay with that yeah that's
fair okay or reboot it or did he say anything about like the franchise as a whole was he like
no they should never do anything indiana jones theme no he was just like they shouldn't recast
he's like sorry chris prop chris pine but he meant chris pratt of course yeah we all do it
it's fine but yeah in the interview he was like laughing he wasn't like yeah he was he was in one
of his two moods yes that's right high or angry yeah apparently he's a very silly person yeah
like if you get him alone and threaten him and don't talk to him about star wars or indiana jones
he seems to like Indiana Jones
more than he likes Star Wars.
Yeah.
Except when they paid him all that money
to do Star Wars again.
And then he liked it a lot.
He did like it.
Yeah, absolutely he did.
He was so friendly.
He really was.
Yeah.
I think he's probably right.
Yeah.
I mean, bring back Mars.
That's what I say.
Well, I think,
well, you just said like
you could continue the universe.
Yeah, for sure.
You could bring back Short Round
and have the adventures of Short Round.
But now he's Long Round.
That's right. One long leg but now he's long round that's right one long leg now he's wide round one wide leg yes precisely
i love it uh you want news of marvel yes emily van camp if that is her name that's sharon carter
yes and daniel bruhl oh zemo should have practiced both those names. They're going to be joining Winter Soldier and Bucky
or whatever that show is called.
Oh, cool.
Yeah, so a character that...
So Bucky and Bucky.
Bucky and Bucky.
Yeah, sorry, yeah.
The Falcon and Bucky Mason.
We don't need to pull each other up on everything, Mason.
People know what we're talking about.
If you don't say it, somebody will message me.
Yeah, I mean, I don't really care about Sharon Carter,
but maybe they could make Sharon Carter more interesting.
There we go.
Yeah, perfect.
And we've kind of wanted to see what Daniel Brühl will do.
Will he put on that big purple sock and the crown?
Absolutely.
I hope so.
One can only hope, yeah.
Yeah.
He's still out for blood and revenge because Iron Man killed his family.
Not with a sock on his head, though.
But isn't he done with revenge, though, I feel?
Well, the Avengers, they disassembled, but maybe they've reassembled,
haven't they?
Remember when Captain America said Avengers assemble and there were more Avengers than ever? I also... Well, the Avengers, they disassembled, but maybe they've reassembled, haven't they? Remember when Captain America said Avengers assemble
and there were more Avengers than ever?
I also-
Hell, the duck was there.
Yeah, he was.
It's also like, I feel like they did save all of existence.
Yes.
So how mad could Zemo really still be at this point?
He's petty.
They killed his family.
Yes, they did.
He'd be real mad.
You wouldn't let that go.
And he's like, I thought I'd killed the idea of captain america but now this one flies yeah but i feel like i feel like
you'd be like i'm gonna willing i'm willing to let this slide yeah in the grand scheme of things
the avengers are a net positive negative yeah killed my family yeah positive saved everybody
else in the universe that's a good point maybe that what it is. So he's going to be doing a list of positives and negatives?
A list of pros and cons.
He cuts to it every episode.
He does seem very methodical.
It's one of those ones where there's an educational segment at the end.
And he teaches us a valuable lesson every episode.
I would love that.
Like a moral lesson.
Have you ever written a pros and cons list and it's changed your mind?
So I write it and I'm like, this is not helpful.
And I've wasted paper.
Yeah, right.
The environment is doomed.
And I've contributed to it.
Should I start this new notebook?
Pros, it's a fresh new...
Oh, God damn it.
There's also a rumor this week that Spider-Man is going to be joining...
Sorry, Deadpool is going to be joining Spider-Man
in Spider-Man Far From Home 2.
So the sequel to Far From Home
right
okay
cool
they're friends aren't they
are they
I don't know
yes
sometimes they are
I think I'd prefer like a Daredevil
or something like that
yeah wasn't that the rumor originally
that Daredevil was going to show up
and be kind of a mentor of some sort
maybe
I don't think
no I've never had an original idea
so I feel I stole that off the internet.
Yeah, you probably did.
Yeah.
Yeah, but, you know, sure.
I mean, Deadpool's the only Fox property that is guaranteed at this point.
That's true, yeah.
Yeah, because even Gambit is...
Well, Gambit's not as...
You can't guarantee that one.
No, there's no way to guarantee it.
What do you think, though?
Deadpool in a PG-13 Spider-Man movie rolling back into the universe.
Yeah, all right.
I can see that.
Totally.
I mean, again, it's Deadpool.
You can contrive some reason why he's just not murdering people willy-nilly.
And he knows he's in a PG-13 movie.
Exactly, yeah.
If you just want Ryan Reynolds cracking wise and being a silly mentor character,
you could totally do that.
Yeah.
And, like, you know, I mean, the first Deadpool,
it contrived a whole bunch of reasons why he's got you know he's only got 10 bullets yeah you just
have him he's got one bullet yeah that's right exactly and he has to he has to choose who he's
going to kill very carefully yeah maybe he kills one person at the end or whatever yeah you can do
anything you want and they made that pg-13 kind of deadpool so yeah there's definitely ways around
it but yeah sure it makes money and if
it makes money you know it's gonna be um money so so money baby this is a fox so this will be a
fox so money yeah while the disney's sony because fox uh disney oh yeah but yes essentially in a way
in a way and speaking of uh comic book uh

Things that continue on, but the opposite.
Oh, yes.
Ezra Miller and Ray Fisher's DC contracts come to an end this month.
So, Cyborg and The Flash.
Oh, so the Cyborg the cyborg solo movies is
off the table i want to say resign 11th hour resign they're probably holding out for millions
and millions probably are good good call uh so the flash is just sitting by their phones like
this is gonna come yeah i got this remember when we dug that grave together no we dug up that grave
sorry yeah they're gonna fax through at any moment. I'm just at my fax.
Here we go.
I don't think that this is happening.
No.
I think the only reason Aquaman was happening
because it was already happening
by the time Justice League was done and dusted.
And it's so dumb that people are like,
we've got to see how this all pans out.
Yeah.
Aquaman, can you imagine?
Absolutely, yeah.
And it made a billion.
So, you know, there you go.
So, yeah, Ezra Miller's Flash movie was the one that was sort of moving forward.
It kept dropping directors and writers.
And he was rewriting it with, who was it?
Who was the comic book writer he was writing it with?
Oh, yeah.
I can't remember.
I also can't remember.
The bald guy.
Grant Morrison?
Maybe.
Yeah, it might have been Grant Morrison.
I don't know. But, right, we've never Maybe. Yeah, it might have been Grant. I think it might have been Grant Morrison, yeah.
I don't know.
But right, we've never heard anything about Cyborg other than just before Suicide Squad
and Batman v Superman came out three years ago.
Yeah.
If you can believe that.
There was that special that Kevin Smith did with Geoff Johns
and they were like,
and we've got a solo Cyborg movie.
I'm so excited.
We're going to, let's, it's going to be the best.
2019, they said.
Oh my God.
Or whatever they said.
So, yeah, they should probably move to a different franchise.
And you know what?
We've got them on TV.
We've got Flash.
We've got Cyborgs on Doom Patrol.
Yeah, exactly.
You know.
There you go.
That's weird that he's getting rave reviews.
People are loving it.
It's a shame, though, because Ray Fisher,
I saw him in the recent series of True Detective.
He's a good actor. But he just got, they made him put on a weird mo-cap suit and do nothing for hours on end.
Days, even.
Weeks?
Yeah, maybe.
There was reshoots.
Who knows?
Sonic Mason has been pushed back.
So they can remodel Sonic, I guess.
They showed a picture, though, of his gloved hand holding a sign that was like
valentine's day 2020 okay set the dates ladies that's right mark that in you happy anniversary
baby here's some gangsters paradise do you think they're gonna redo a bunch of stuff as well like
jokes and uh the movie i don't know i think maybe no i. I think they're going to be like,
you know what, this movie's pretty great
if we just tweak this one
character. How do you feel about
just generally
the idea of fan outrage
transforming
something?
I know people are like, it's a dangerous precedent or whatever,
but I think this Sonic thing is not going to be like a –
it's not going to matter for movies that are better than this.
If someone doesn't like the new Christopher Nolan movie
they just started filming, he's not going to care.
Yeah, right.
So I just think people need to realise that some things are good
and some things aren't good.
And sometimes good things become bad things and vice versa.
And sometimes things have artistic merit and sometimes things are't good. And sometimes good things become bad things and vice versa. And sometimes things have artistic merit
and sometimes things are products to be purchased.
Yes, exactly.
One of which is a ticket to the Sonic movie.
And most of the time people are both.
Yeah, exactly.
But I also understand that for a lot of people,
a lot of people grew up with Sonic.
They love the character.
Shut up.
They love the Archie comics.
They were good.
Remember those? I don't know. They they were i don't believe you all right
i was lying twist you called my bluff you got me no they were good uh and you know they they want
to see something good yeah right so you know i don't think anybody wants this honestly right and
i wonder they must have crunched the numbers and went okay it's going to cost us x
number of dollars to get a new date and redo all this cgi will that like how will that affect the
box office they must have gone we will make more money or think they're going to make more money
by doing this yeah when i think it's very possible they make less because people are like well this
is just a weird and we don't care anymore yeah okay all right now uh here's our context free
action item this week.
Just tweet at one of us.
Yep.
At wikipediabrown, at MrSundayMovies, do you want this?
Yes or no?
Just yes or no?
No gifs.
No gifs.
No gifs.
No other context.
Don't say Sonic.
Yep.
We want to receive a bunch of yeses and nos and not know what it is.
Yes.
I never remember.
Ever.
Good. But we still want remember. Ever. Good.
But we still want it.
We absolutely want it.
And then we'll collate all the, and then next week we'll be like, that thing we said, more
yeses.
You know?
If you know what it is, tell us yes or no.
No context.
Yeah.
It's ad time.
And in an ad time, we like to do a hello fresh ad.
A what ad?
A Hello Hello Fresh
Hello Fresh
The thing about
Hello Fresh is
People are probably
Familiar with them
We've been on and off it
For a while
Not me and you
Like me and my family
And maybe you'll come around
I haven't seen
A bloody bar of it
Quite frankly
But I wouldn't mind
Because they look delicious
They really are
So what basically
They do
They deliver Hello and fresh meals to your door whenever you want them for the week, however many you want.
So they do all the meal planning, shopping and prepping so you can focus on a healthier you and a happier family or just you, whichever one you choose.
The idea of that is great to me because I always buy.
great to me because i always buy if i'm like i'm gonna make some stuff and then i buy like a ton of stuff and i make one meal of it and then i've got a ton left over and it all spoils yeah absolutely
or i'm like i don't know how much to put in this like i'm like they give you like the exact yes
exactly it's perfect exactly yeah so there's no waste there's no waste there's no leftovers
exactly uh they're fresh pre-prepared ingredients and easy to follow.
Six step picture recipe cards are delivered to your door each week in special insulated boxes.
So if you're at work, you don't have to worry about it spoiling on your doorstep all day.
This sounds like the perfect system for me, an idiot.
Yeah, that's right.
Be like me, an idiot.
Also, we've kept every... A discerning idiot.
We've kept every single recipe card as well oh
so you can do it again if you want to exactly that's cool all meals come together in uh 30
minutes max that's not like delivered in 30 minutes like you can make them in 30 minutes
and they call for less than two pots and pans and they require minimal cleanup which is absolutely
true i'm like that i like that in the kitchen as well like i wash as i go claire's like i'm
gonna use every pan and every fork some reason.
I'm the kind of person who's like, all right, put that on the pan and this pan.
And then it's like, get out your third pan.
And I'm like, don't have a third pan.
I'm out of pans.
I'm out of pans.
What do I do?
Do I just eat this in my hands?
It makes no sense.
But hello, fresh.
Don't eat it.
That's right.
Don't even worry about it.
And there's also three plans you can choose from.
Classic, veggie and family with the option to switch between uh for when your tastes change
uh look like i said we've been on and off this for a while it's just depending on you know what
we're going on for the week or whatever we'll be like okay we've got this coming up this week let's
get this many or whatever because i i never do a proper big shop because i'm a loser mason i can
never think and then i get there and
i've written all this but i've missed like eight things and then you're hungry so you just say you
just buy eight blocks of chocolate take them home and your wife's like man your life's like your
wife's like what are you doing and you're like exactly you know my favorite thing about it as
well is not only they're good they're they're very healthy as well like they're and there are a lot
of healthy options you can choose and i like speaking of that as well like i like the idea that because oftentimes if they're like just just get
a whole bunch of just just make a huge pan or something get it but make a huge pan or something
for two weeks and i'm like but by day three i'm like i'm sick of this stuff what am i a loser plan
it out and you can have different meals every day yeah it's the best also the chicken cheddar
fajitas are quite good if you don't mind me saying so. It sounds good.
Okay, here we go.
We've actually got a special offer for those listening.

Oh, I'm listening.

planet 80, all one word,

I wouldn't mind 8-0-ing that.
I hear what you're saying. Also, with that
money, it's like receiving eight free meals.
Yes. Which is
a crazy amount of free meals if you ask me,
which nobody has, but I'm telling you
that this is what's going on. If someone out there could ask,
send an email and say, is that a lot of free meals?
The answer is yes.
But it's good, and it's good quality ingredients.
It's not like junk, which, look, we get a lot of offers for endorsements
and we turn a lot down, but I'm more than happy to do this one.
Have we done it before?
I don't know.
They're good.
Just get it or don't.
Get it.
It's linked below.
Don't not get it.
No, but you definitely should.
I'm playing devil's
advocate you simply must get it agreed okay i'm with the show yes great wait wait hello goodbye
goodbye fresh there we go the got bros are back for 2019 are you excited mason because i know you
are but am i do you think i am yeah baby got bros we're back, baby. You've settled into it.
Because initially you were very reluctant to.
But I'm like, well, just ride this train to the end, I reckon.
And it's the last one.
Yeah, exactly.
Should we just do...
Well, allegedly.
Yeah.
Two more series and a movie, right?
Well, that's right.
It kind of leaves things in a way where the HBO say that it's done
and we're not going back to these characters.
I don't necessarily believe that. Because there's some threads here. I don't necessarily believe that because there's some threads here.
I think there is.
Yeah, there's a few threads.
Yeah.
In fact, one of the criticisms probably of this season is that it didn't wrap up a lot of threads that have been existing.
TMT, too many threads.
Too many threads, exactly.
That's what people have been saying.
Just hashtag TMT on Twitter.
Yeah, that's right.
And they want to know what the GOT bros, though, think of it.
Think of it.
They want to know what the GOT bros think of the TMTs. I think we should just do spoilers. Yeah, that's right. And they want to know what the GOT bros, though, think of it. Think of it. They want to know what the GOT bros think of the TMTs.
I think we should just do spoilers.
Yeah, of course.
It's out.
It's been out for a while.
You can skip this because there's time codes.
Spoilers came out the nanosecond of the final episode.
Exactly.
Look.
I shut down the internet when that episode was out.
Well, I was going to say, like, you know, spoiler culture is very heavy on the internet.
And people are like, okay, well, when Avengers, the new is very heavy on the internet.
And people are like, okay, well, when Avengers, the new Avengers comes out, no spoilers for two weeks.
But, I mean, Game of Thrones, people are tweeting about it the second an episode finishes.
That's right.
And they're tweeting along.
Yes.
And the thing is, I don't really have a problem with that because it's going live.
But if you're on Twitter and you read it, it's kind of your fault. It's not like a movie where you get to see it early and then you intentionally spoil it.
Just mute every word that is used in Game of Thrones.
That's what I did.
Sword.
I did that and I didn't go on Twitter.
Drogon.
Drogon.
Every misspelling of the word dragon.
You've got to mute them all.
How do you spell Cersei?
Just do every version of that.
Just everything, yeah.
With an S, with a C.
Doesn't matter
So I thought a good way to do this would be
We'll talk about all the good stuff
And then we'll talk about the bad stuff
Because it's definitely a mixed reaction, would you say, Mason?
I would 100% agree, yeah
These GeoTip bros know that more than anybody
I would say especially the last couple of episodes
Yes, absolutely
I think people were mostly happy with the first two to three eps of this last season.
I mean, there was some like, this episode's too dark and you didn't pat the dog kind of stuff.
Well, I saw these episodes all at once.
Yeah.
You know, after the episodes had come out.
And I immediately, getting to episode three, I'm like, oh, this is the episode everyone said was too dark.
It is very dark.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Well, why don't we start there?
I liked that episode.
Me too.
It's a bit of kind of, what kind of battle strategy is this for a lot of it?
Right.
Like it's the whole, like you send the Dothraki into the dark to fight.
Not entirely dark.
They did have small flaming swords, didn't they?
But they only got them at the last minute.
They really did.
Like they weren't going to.
That's true.
They're like, oh, this will actually be good for plunging into the unending darkness filled with nightmarish unkillable monsters this is kind of
handy isn't it you're right the previous plan was to just send them in unaided or maybe they
weren't gonna go in but it feels oh yeah maybe they were like they were like and go and they
will be like later losers and they all just veer off to the sides and go back to their home their home city you know planet yeah the home planet exactly yeah
dothrak dothrak yeah there's a few moments in there where it's like well i'm not a master
tactician but for example i wouldn't put all the people in the crypt where all the dead people are
yeah i probably also wouldn't uh rely on the dragons to set fire to the trench if, bearing in mind, dragons can fly up and far away all the time and may not be there.
And we've seen this dude, Rob.
Maybe, maybe like a little bit of oil on the ground.
Yeah, that makes sense to me.
Maybe a line of oil on the ground could do it.
Or a guy standing there.
Or a guy standing there, which is what they ended up doing, I guess.
But it was a girl, twist.
There we go.
She lit two things on fire that episode, didn't she?
Yeah.
But it was a bit kind of some of these characters got piled upon and were fine
and some of them got piled upon and weren't.
You know what?
I liked the wrenching up the tension.
Like normally it's, you know, there's a big battlefield
and everybody's being put upon by the bad guys
and then somebody comes up and saves the day.
But I liked how it was in multiple.
Yeah.
I mean, it was kind of coincidental that it was all happening
exactly at the same time.
But I liked the fact that on multiple fronts,
everybody was just about to be, you know, torn to pieces.
But it felt like some of them just weren't going to get torn to pieces.
Yeah, for sure.
Like Jamie's got one hand and he's not very good on his left.
But, you know, I guess he's still better than most.
For sure, yeah.
But I liked how they broke it up with Arya going into the library,
like a little stealth section.
Yeah, for sure.
Because that was quite a long episode,
and I think if it was just unrelenting,
zombies just pouring over the top of people.
For sure, yeah.
Yeah.
But I think, speaking of strategy, I believe if you look on YouTube,
there are some, like, armchair tacticians who've rebuilt that battle.
Yeah.
And have been like, here's some better tactics for you to employ.
Yeah, but they weren't there, mate.
They weren't there.
They weren't in the thick of it.
When it comes to the crunch, they would have folded like anyone else.
Yeah, exactly.
They would have rode off into the night with their flaming sword.
Exactly, yeah.
Yeah.
Do you reckon their flaming sword even really helped?
I mean, it didn't.
Clearly not.
I mean, I know fire kind of could kill them.
Uh-huh.
But when there's a million of them.
Yeah.
You take out a couple hundred.
Also, it didn't help at all.
No.
Because they all died straight away from something.
They all murdered.
I don't know.
They just were all beat up a bit.
You didn't even hear anything.
No.
It was just silence.
And then they all kind of ran back and one of them's just like shaking his head like,
nah,
no good.
No,
thank you.
This is what I did like.
And I know some people didn't,
didn't love this.
I liked that Arya killed the Night King.
Right.
Because it was that.
I also love the part where she disguised herself
as a,
as a falling rock and killed Cersei later in the season.
Finally,
get her off the list.
You know what I mean?
Yeah. Goal achieved. Did season. Finally, get her off the list, you know what I mean? Goal achieved.
Did she use her...
Got her revenge.
Did she use her switcher face abilities in this season?
I don't think she did.
No, I think she used it once.
Yeah.
I mean, she's used it more than once in previous seasons.
Yeah, right.
Yeah, but not...
Did she use it at all, though?
I can't remember.
Look, I also understand where people are like,
well, how did she sneak up on the Night King or whatever?
First of all, she did.
He got her.
Yeah, that's true.
But how did she get past the zombies?
She's sneaky.
She's stealthy.
That's what she does.
Well I mean I think maybe people
And they're quite dumb as well.
That's true they are.
They are dead.
Their brains are rotting for the most part.
I also think that you know
she did train to do the face switchy
but she also trained as an assassin.
A silent assassin for years.
Yeah.
And he still caught her.
He still did catch her, yeah.
Yeah, but I also wonder how does that army work?
Is he controlling them all independently?
Because it was so focused on Bran that he's not looking through the eyes of the other ones
or do they all operate on their own?
Oh, I don't know.
That's a good question.
I think a funny little twist would have been if Arya had killed the Night King
and they were all still just alive.
Oh, we've miscalculated here.
That's not how this magic works.
Not at all.
I mean, Game of Thrones is all about subverting expectations of the fantasy genre.
So imagine if they would be like, no, we're fine, actually, and you're all dead now.
All the people who are going to die in an instant, you're still going to die in an instant.
I did enjoy the fact that I think there was a little callback there
where Arya was the knife catch from earlier in the show.
I agree.
She has a battle with Brienne.
Again, I should say that I'm not invested in Game of Thrones,
the series at all.
And I understand in a lot of cases.
And we're going to talk about some stuff we liked and didn't like.
And I understand why some people didn't like certain things.
And I also agree with them, but also I'm not that invested.
So I can tell you, I'm not incensed by anything.
I'm a little bit between that and being like a massive fan, I would say.
Because look, there are certain things in the way that it ended that it's done and I don't care.
I don't want it redone.
But we're going to talk about the good things.
We're going to talk about the good things first, yeah.
The Night King, this isn't a good thing, but the Night King should have been a thousand miles away
at the top of a mountain.
Oh, yeah, sure.
But no, he wants that bran.
He wants a taste of that sweet bran.
Sweet dry bran.
He wants that raven bran, you know what I mean?
Big bowl of raven bran.
Yeah, fair point.
But I don't mind that Jon Snow didn't run in to kill him
because there was kind of that moment where he's pinned down by the dragon
and it's like, how is this going to go yeah and i'd completely forgotten where she was at that point
in the battle i saw her i saw her well that's the thing also but we didn't really see where she was
she kind of disappeared for 20 minutes yeah like completely not i'm lurking in the shadows i'm
going completely and now i'm back yeah i saw a video uh of uh kid harrington being incredibly
surprised that he surprised and annoyed that he wasn't the one to kill the Night King.
And initially I'm like, well, he's having a bit of fun there.
And upon seeing the episode, I'm like, no, he was kind of mad.
Was kind of annoyed.
Jon Snow did not do a lot this season, I feel.
He did some dumb stuff.
Like, you know, the bit where he's running at the Night King
and all the dead are coming up.
Yeah, right.
It's like, you should probably back away from this.
You know what I would have enjoyed very much in the battle?
Yeah.
It would have been...
Because we got a lot of people going like,
well, I inherited this sword from my family
and it's the best Valerian steel.
It would have been good if they revealed
that their parents were just lying to them the whole time.
No, I just got this in a market stall, actually.
I don't know what it's made of.
Is that wood?
Yeah, wood. I don't know what it's made of. Is that wood? Yeah, wood.
I don't know.
Anyway, you're dead now.
If you want to go back before that, though, the first episode, I know a lot of people
kind of feel like it's filler.
And I can understand that complaint because a lot of the time with Game of Thrones-
I disagree, but I can't remember what happened in the first episode.
But if you roll into a season, it's like a recap of where everybody is yes and they they kind of did this for a lot of seasons not all and then
the last episode is like setting everybody up for like the the next season yeah so the the end
often the end and the start episodes aren't that interesting not always but i was like i was kind
of expecting that i really liked episode two which was i'm kind of like when's the battle like there
was an element of that.
But there were some really good moments in that.
I liked the sitting around drinking scene.
Sure, yeah, where Brienne is knighted as a sir.
Yeah, I think that might be the best moment in the series, I think, in season eight in its entirety.
She has a wild ride, doesn't she?
Yeah, for sure.
We'll get to some of the things that I don't like about the way they did that.
I mean, you can't go past the special effects, obviously.
It's a great looking show.
Yeah.
For sure.
And it's movie quality, but a good movie quality.
Yeah, right.
It's not like a speed racer, like a Lord of the Ring.
Zuh.
Plural.
There's more than one.
More than one ring.
Not ring.
No, there is more than one ring because there's different rings of power.
You understand Lord of the Rings.
No magic rings in this universe subverting expectations.
That's right.
Twist it right on its head.
They couldn't go back and film where they filmed King's Landing
prior to this because they had to knock it down.
Oh, did they?
So they built it.
They just built it on the back lot.
They built like seven different streets.
Oh, okay.
Which they used.
So that's all fake.
None of that's.
Yeah, it's incredible. This show's fake is what you're saying? Yeah so that's all fake none of that's yeah it's incredible this show's fake is what yeah it's all fake wow yeah i loved it but i
yeah i mean that's incredible and it looks and they built did things like you know when the
door blows out from the dragon uh-huh they built it they built the broken door and then they kind
of not paper mache but let's say for lack of a better word like on top of it the proper gate
yeah right and so then they could just blow it out and tear it down yeah right so then you don't And they kind of, not paper mache, but let's say for lack of a better word, like on top of it, the proper gate.
Yeah, right.
And so then they could just blow it out and tear it down.
Yeah, right.
So then you don't have to build two different gates, basically, or change one to the other.
But yeah, so that kind of stuff is great.
The dragons look great.
The dragons do look great. I love the fact that over the last couple of episodes, the undead dragon has clearly deteriorated.
Yes. I enjoy that a lot.
Yeah.
And towards the end of the battle, he's just sort of breathing out his mouth and the holes in his face.
Absolutely.
Yeah.
Speaking of dragons, people are conflicted on this.
Yeah.
It's a good visual metaphor for the dragon melting the throne of swords.
It's good that the dragon understands metaphor, isn't it?
See, that's the thing.
I'm in two worlds about this because dragons,
we don't really know how smart they are.
That's true, yeah.
And they have a really strong connection to their owners
or mothers or whatever.
So it's very possible that it thought that, well,
this is the dying wish of whatever to break the system.
But it just seemed like it was just mad.
That's what it was.
Yeah. But how did you interpret
that i don't know but it uh yeah i think it just seemed mad yeah but it didn't do you think i mean
it's clearly it mustn't be that smart that it didn't realize that john killed otherwise it
would burn him yeah unless it did no but it's, but I also understand that he's a Targaryen and perhaps this is the way it should have gone.
Are you my new dad?
Yes.
I'm going to go though.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I don't know.
I don't know how smart they are.
Yeah.
So I was kind of expecting the remaining dragon to go hog wild.
Yeah.
On King's Landing, you know, in the second time.
I mean, they already did that.
Well, I know.
Exactly. But I mean, I, you know, under the command of of daenerys yeah pride just just going insane but how great was that shot when it was in the snow it comes out of the snow yeah
real good how did they do that they put a dragon in snow oh my goodness how good was how good was
that shot of her of daenerys she's coming out she's walking and the dragon swings are behind her
what a metaphor did you see the guy?
I feel really bad for him.
Yeah, I know.
It was just a guy on Twitter.
He wasn't like a prominent reporter or entertainment industry guy.
He said, what an incredible shot.
Should be taught in film school or whatever.
Exactly.
Well, it took 100 takes to get that dragon standing behind him.
Yeah, exactly, yeah.
I mean, it's a good shot, but there's nothing there
that needs to be taught.
Do you know what I mean?
We get it.
We get it.
Yeah.
I feel bad for that guy
because he's just getting piled upon.
Well, you shouldn't make any proclamations on the internet
if you know what to be piled on.
Absolutely, yeah.
Okay, I'm not super happy with the ending.
We'll get to why.
But there are some things that I do like.
Yes.
Most of the characters who were left alive
i'm kind of happy with what they got to go on and do like john got to go live in the woods because
he doesn't want to be king yeah right uh-huh talk about brand in a minute but um aria gets to go and
explore yep santa gets the north yeah exactly i'm surprised that the other guys weren't like
can we also have our own kingdom because he she's like, I want our own kingdom.
Nope, you're with the other six.
You get to stay with us.
Yeah, it just felt a bit strange to me.
Well, she's one of the worst. Because surely the Iron Irons are like,
because they've never wanted any of that shit.
Yeah, right.
They were always like, we like sitting on rocks and eating rocks
and we like stealing other people's rocks.
That's what we like, yeah.
Do you think this season lacked a villain yes well we had the night king or the establishing of yeah look we but we
had the night king who is essentially and his armies who are essentially a plague of locusts
yeah and again like it's it's one of those things where it's satisfying in the moment to have the
night king destroyed yeah it's, but what did he want?
Yeah.
And what did...
Just to roll over the world with fog and dead people.
Yeah.
See, I didn't have a problem with him dying because I was like,
this is what this show does.
Like, it builds up characters and then goes,
that guy's not important, dead.
Yeah, right.
So that's why I was like...
And also it was six, so I'm like, well, they're moving along, aren't they?
They sure are.
But there was a moment after he was killed where it's like,
is Cersei the bad guy?
And then it's like, oh, Dany's the bad guy.
Oh, Dany's dead.
And it's the end?
Yep, that's right.
How do you feel about Bran being king?
Well, is Bran the king or is the entity inside him the king now?
The memories of all things that's ever existed.
The computer that is Bran is in charge.
Yeah, because at one point I believe they say,
okay, well, when Bran dies, we can just vote in a new king.
Yeah.
What if he never dies?
Well, the last guy lived for like a thousand years.
Right?
It was Max von Sydow and that dude's like 86.
Here's the thing, I think...
That's quite old.
Yeah, I wonder, and I don't know if this was intended
by the creators of the show or not,
that what essentially has happened is they've put in place an entity who will never die.
They put in a computer.
A computer who will never, exactly, an AI who will never die.
Yeah, who can just put his mind into the next thing even if he does die.
Yeah, right?
So what's, is that, then that's the thing, like I had that thought and I'm like, well, that's interesting and sinister.
Yeah.
Did they mean for that?
Or were they just like, well, we can't give it to John and we can't give it to Daenerys
and we can't give it to Tyrion.
So let's just, who's next?
Yeah.
We don't want to give it to Sam.
Let's just give it to Bran.
Yeah.
He's had a good run, hasn't he?
I feel like it's probably the ending of the books also, but it's probably explained better
in a thousand pages.
Yeah, right.
Uh-huh.
Than, you know, than four minutes.
It'd be like, what do you want to do it?
And he's like, why do you think I'm here, bitches?
Exactly.
Also, you're Bran the Broken.
Ah, fuck.
Can't I be Bran the Rad?
No.
Can't I be Bran the Wise?
No.
No.
Can't I be Bran the Boring even?
No, you're dumb.
Well, you are, but no.
You're dumb legs brand sorry mate
yeah but i also wonder if he manipulated events so he'd be king because he had a that's the thing
we don't know he had a vision of the dragon flying into king's landing that's in a previous season
yeah he knows not exactly what's going to happen but he knows everything leading up to what has
happened and glimpses of the future yeah so he did tell you know he told well that's the thing here's the thing though and i think this
is a testament to the season i know we're talking about good stuff in this in this particular
segment we're talking about but it's a testament to how rushed i feel that this season was that i
don't know if that's meant to be deliberate or it was an accident or that we're reading into it.
Like you could go, okay, well, Bran knew that Jon Snow was a Targaryen
and then he told Jon Snow and then Jon Snow told other people
and that set some wheels in motion that led to the end.
So maybe that was Bran's plan to become the king and he knew all along,
but maybe it's just an accident.
Yeah, exactly.
Maybe it was just like, well, if you've've got some gossip why don't you tell some gossip you know
yeah that's what the showrunners were thinking let's tell some hot goss i mean this is juicy
i mean you'd want like best case scenario you'd hope for the universe that he would he did it on
purpose but he plans to rule well yeah right i guess but also he's a computer so it'd be like
well a thousand people can die because yeah he's just he's just playing odds or whatever yeah so i don't know i
don't know how i feel about that i kind of i'm not upset by it i just don't i don't know what
like you said whether it's intentional or whether it's a good thing yeah yeah you know it is good
though what's that he bloody patted that dog at the end didn't he yeah after much people complain
they sure
did yeah do you think they added that in post i don't think so because people are like they heard
they heard and then they refilmed it did they no do you think they did i don't know in a week
apparently they did remove some of the various starbucks cups and and reuse and the bottle
single-use plastic bottles that people complained about so if you get on itunes now they're gone
apparently i bet if you went back through previous seasons,
it would also be...
There'd be boom mics and shots.
Definitely, yeah.
There's just a scene, you know,
when Daenerys burns all those slavers,
at one point you can just see her sitting on a big green rock
that they green screened up.
Two people are rocking back and forth.
Yeah, that's right.
It lasts for like five seconds.
Yeah. Do you want to do bad stuff then? Okay, let's do bad stuff. Or not as. It lasts for like five seconds. Yeah.
Do you want to do bad stuff then?
Okay, let's do bad stuff.
Or not as good stuff?
Not as good stuff, sure.
I definitely don't think it's as strong as previous seasons.
Oh, no, for sure.
But that might be a pacing thing because apparently...
Oh, we're right into it?
Yeah.
Well, apparently the other GOT bros, Dan Dibby-Weiss and David Benioff.
D&D.
D&D.
They were offered as much time as they want they're like do you want 10 and they're like no we want another season yeah and they're
like no we'll wrap it up in six we'll do it and they plan this like in like 2015 to do this many
because i think they wanted to move on and do confederate which ended up not going forward
because people are like maybe we don't want this that's the the hbo series about the uh
the slavery never stopped yeah and the south wins the civil war right okay yeah and then also they're
doing star wars like they're going straight into star wars after this so but look that i understand
is because maybe you don't want to do game of thrones 10 to 10 episodes for 10 years in a row
yeah because maybe you'd shoot yourself you know like i don't i don't understand or maybe it'd be
a very very satisfactory
you're saying that now because the last episodes were bad but no no i'm saying if you did it for
10 years this might be a masterpiece but i also understand why you why you wouldn't want to do
that yeah right uh-huh because you start when you know you're 40 and then you finish when you're 50
that's i guess that's that is true and, you know, people, probably you get thousands of tweets a day
or thousands of emails a day that are like,
this is not how the book's supposed to go.
You suck, kind of thing.
So maybe you wouldn't want to exit early.
But at the same time, I think if you were like,
I'm going to do one,
like, why do you have to do Game of Thrones
and a show about slavery and Star Wars?
Just maybe do one thing
and make it the best thing you've ever done.
And people go, man, I love that 10 years worth of Game of Thrones.
It's the best thing I've ever seen.
That's not incorrect.
Good thing they've moved on to a franchise
where people won't be upset about the movie.
Absolutely.
They'll be fine.
But I think those Star Wars movies now,
no matter what, are going to get hate because of the way this ended.
Yeah, for sure.
And a lot of people hate Star Wars anyway now.
Oh, they blew up another Death Star? Is that because you didn't want to show all the drama on
the death star for the next two movies well so tyrian's a bit of a dummy nowadays isn't he yeah
he's gotten dumber yeah he's definitely gotten dumber i mean was he hitting the head a couple
of times he's definitely been hitting the head yeah that might be it but i mean he's definitely
made mistakes yeah for sure and you
know he's killed people he shouldn't have and like he shot his dad which is fine i'm gonna cover that
yeah but uh yeah it's every move he makes is like what are you doing like think well i think look i
think this might be for me this will be the overarching theme of what we're talking about
now is that i think most of the flaws that came from this season for me anyway it's because
they decided on an end point yeah and they plotted backwards 100 we need to get here yeah so and i've
read some stuff about george rr martin and apparently what his his writing technique is
is he goes okay here's i'm creating a character and here's their character trope here's their
character characterization and here's they're passionate and they're stubborn and they're blah, blah, blah.
And then he gets that character and he puts it in a situation.
And then he will write how he thinks that character would react.
Yes.
And so that's good because the character's kind of like feels real and organic.
Yeah.
But the problem with that, I get, you know, the issue with that is that characters and plots can often meander.
Yes.
Because you get put two characters together and go,
well, these characters wouldn't fight,
so off they go in separate directions kind of thing.
So plots kind of meander.
Or they have a boring conversation.
They have a boring conversation and then they leave.
And that works for novels because you have as many pages as you want.
But for television movies, know, television movies,
people expect an action sequence every 10 pages.
They want, you know, they have certain expectations.
And so that is kind of at odds with television writing and movie writing.
But with this new season, they went, okay, we have to end here
and so we need the characters specifically to do this yeah and so
you get a character who wouldn't normal you know their characterization wouldn't allow them to do
that just going actually i will do it yeah and so for a lot of people who've been following these
characters those those turns those sudden left shifts into into different characterization are
weird i definitely don't disagree with that and there's a few examples from this the biggest one
is danny but even if you look at like like, Jamie, he comes in to be like,
I'm going to do the honourable thing.
I'm going to fight the army of the dead.
And then he does, and he's like, and I love Brianne,
and we're going to kiss, and it's hot.
I love it.
And then he's like, I love my sister.
See you in hell.
Yeah, right.
And then it's kind of like, and I think that is an okay arc to have.
Yes.
But to be like, one episode, he's like, yep.
And the next episode, he's like, nah.
Yeah, exactly. And then, because there's even moments where he's a dumbass he's a dumbass he's not that
dumb no and i think and i think i'm basing that on probably earlier seasons but i think he has
evolved since then and again we've talked about the scene you know where he knights brienne of
tarth yeah and and we have this not all the nice cap moments between all these characters and i
actually went oh it's nice how all these characters have grown.
Yeah.
And it puts aside their differences and war has changed them and blah, blah, blah.
And now they're real characters.
Then he's like, see you later, suckers.
Yeah, exactly.
And I thought maybe he was going back to kill her or something like that.
Yeah.
I mean, he wasn't going back to destroy her enemies.
He was really going back for her, but it felt a bit...
There's even moments where he's like,
I never cared much for the people.
But the reason why he stabbed the previous king in the back
is because he didn't want a million innocent people to explode.
Like, he has that...
He tells Brienne that story after he gets his hand cut off
and they're in the baths together.
It's, like, a really good moment where you realise
he's not all bad.
Like, he does think about other people. He's just of a ship like but now he's like i don't
really like people and i'm not really into it to be honest yeah and there was no and again you can
i think you know the the issue is not that a character can change no because the characters
have changed over the seasons yeah it's that you need to show you need you need to lay the
groundwork and you need to have characters experience things
that will change them.
Yes.
Do you want to talk about Daenerys?
Sure.
I feel like Cersei was interesting and then she was just like,
and then a rock fell on her.
Yeah.
Again, I don't know if you're going to split this up,
but that rock was Arya in disguise.
Yes.
She finally achieved her goal of assassinating Cersei.
She disguised herself as that rock.
I just, I think, I mean, she's dead.
That's fine, I guess.
I saw a tweet.
You don't want to do something more interesting
than just some rocks falling on her?
I saw a tweet earlier that said props to Lena Headey
for getting a million dollars an episode.
Yeah.
For standing at a window and drinking a wine every episode
probably real wine too yeah right yeah her and broad never got that scene together though because
you know they used to date real life oh right they will not be in the same room apparently
interesting okay for reasons i do not know yeah too passionate probably too much passion yeah
yeah okay let's talk about the danny thing then yeah i don't have a problem with her going mad
no well here's the thing and i think
there's there's there's two camps to this right there's people who are like oh my god they've
ruined this character i named my kid calise i'm full of regrets right now and there's some other
people who are like well they laid the groundwork from season one and you're an idiot if you didn't
see it yeah and i think that both camps have merits yes but don't name your kid after people
on tv especially if the season hasn't finished don't name your kid after people on TV shows.
Especially if the season hasn't finished.
Don't be like, season three of Breaking Bad,
Walter would be a good name.
Yeah, Walter would be interesting.
Yeah, good on him.
Who's this new Nazi character?
I like him.
Oh, no.
But speaking of Walter White,
I think that if you look at Breaking Bad as an example,
especially in hindsight,
all the evidence that Walter White was a bad human being
are present from episode one.
He was just a weak bad human being.
But then he gained some power and then he became the worst man in the series, except for the Nazis.
Except for the Nazis.
Except for the Nazis.
But we've talked about Daenerys.
The signs were there.
And of course, she has been ruthless in the past.
And there's been visions and so on and so forth.
But again,
like foreshadow isn't,
foreshadow isn't character growth.
I completely agree.
Which is why,
and even when,
because they turn her evil.
And I think,
I think you could have changed like.
I think they turn her evil in a previously on.
Yeah,
absolutely there was.
Yeah.
And again,
speaking of,
speaking of plots,
speaking of having an
end point and having to get there i think and this this is probably my the linchpin for me
of not enjoying this season as much as i thought i would because i'm like well this is going to be
short and brief and filled with blood and you don't care about it i don't care about any of
this but i'm like and i'm like i'm gonna love this season but i didn't so much and i think
it's because they went okay who are we gonna have on the iron who are we going to have as the ruler at the end well we can't have it john doesn't want it yep we don't we can't have a bit in eris why not
well let's say she does something so evil that john has to kill her and be sad about it that's
the that i think is the annoying the issue is like we need him to murder her but be sad about it
because we want him to be a sad and you want him you want to feel bad for him we need him to murder her, but be sad about it. Because we want him to be a sad man.
And you want to feel bad for him.
We want him to be sad and noble.
And oh, I murdered this woman, but also I'm sad about it.
So I think they went, well, how do we get him to kill her?
Let's say she does something so bad that he has to kill her.
What could she do?
Let's have her murder a million people.
And how can we do that?
Let's say she went mad because her friends were killed and a dragon was killed and he didn't
love and her boyfriend didn't love her boyfriend didn't love her and people were telling lies
about her yeah kind of thing you know i think i think the way they could have done it yeah and
i'm not i'm really not the kind of guy to be like you don't have to fix this one thing that would
have been fine because there's still problems from this yeah right but say for example say, for example, you know how a dragon gets shot through the neck?
Yeah.
And like it's spitting blood and falls into the ocean.
Great looking shot, by the way.
What about if you'd like...
All those heat-seeking arrows.
So good.
They were like 10 arrows.
What if you did that moment just before she ruins the city and the dragon crashes into the city and the people are cheering and they're stabbing it and laughing and then she's like fuck it and she just tortures them then even yeah to
be like oh she sees the people and she's like well fuck these people because that's my kid pretty much
but just to be like the bells are ringing and they're like we surrender yeah and even the bit
where they're like ring the bells that's as good as ringing the bells i feel if you get a hundred
people we ring the bells yeah but we fully support we democratically support ringing the bells here
so you're right and you could also and i think you could also maybe have she's going to destroy
the city then she's on the fence about it and then maybe her dragon goes wild and destroys the city
and then you're like well she didn't do it but she was on the verge of doing it and maybe we
can't rely on
her doing it yeah in the future or something like that but i think yeah i think i i feel like she
went there was a scene in the previously on where we just see a shot of her like twitching and then
then a voiceover all the horrible things that happen yes they killed your friend they killed
your nobody believes you they killed your dragon nobody believes you you gotta nobody wants to kiss
you anymore no kisses for Daenerys.
Yeah, and then she went mad, and I'm like, that's her.
Yeah.
All right.
I don't think that was in the text.
I think you added that.
I think that whoever makes the previously ons did that.
And again, there is the foreshadowing,
but I think even if you just added a few more scenes that kind of added to that,
I think it would have made a difference.
I think if you expanded maybe not even the episode run,
but if you expanded the time frame. maybe take out the dog pat take out the dog you have so
much more but like and again i think i think they needed more episodes i think maybe they even needed
another season yeah of maybe even her ruling and coming to pieces or what have you but i it felt
really not true to the character that I,
the way that I saw it when she just switched.
Yeah.
Like, just that instant kind of like, well, I've won.
Yeah.
But what if I just kill a million people anyway?
I mean, there's a scene in, you know, a number of seasons ago.
And I know she's killed people,
but she's never killed a million innocent people.
No, there's a scene made a few seasons ago
where I think she thinks that one of her dragons has killed an innocent person and she locks it away. No, there's a scene made a few seasons ago where I think she thinks that
one of her dragons
has killed
an innocent person
and she locks it away.
Yeah, exactly.
Because she's like,
well, you will not
be killing an innocent people.
Yeah, there's two of them.
And the two dragons
that didn't do it,
she locks away as well.
Yeah, right.
I also,
you just said something then
which I also think is true.
If you're going to turn her evil,
can we see some of that?
Yeah, right.
Like, not just the next episode
and then she gets stabbed
in the first 20 minutes yeah right because all you you just don't get i mean she makes a speech
and then john stabs her yeah there's not even she doesn't she doesn't do any more i mean she's done
a lot i mean yeah exactly what do you want i guess but yeah wouldn't you want to see her rule for a
bit yeah right but i i always i thought that you know what would be good is maybe they come to
king's landing and then the people we see that because she just assumed that all the people would hate her.
Yeah.
What feels like it's happened is that she has considered herself like this liberator.
She's freed all.
She's coming around to free all the people of the world and break the chains and break the wheel and what have you.
And then she's just arrived at king's landing and
she's gone oh these are new people they hate me yeah i'd better kill them exactly there's no there
was no but there was no she didn't she didn't even get rotten fruit thrown at her no exactly
nothing like that like i know that the rulers of that land hated her and didn't want her to do it
but other than that like she's way worse than the people who she's worse than anybody who's ever been there before and again for no reason yeah yeah yeah i think it's it was strange to me
that she didn't even seem to recognize what she'd done like there's moments of like glimpses in her
face where like there's a bit of regret when john's talking to her yeah but just to even just
to even for a second go i killed a million people like women and children and innocent people yeah right like
you didn't think that but that's what are you ruling over but that's the thing they just they
turned her from a character who'd done bad things in the past but only to you know slavers and and
the people who did horrible things to her and you know the people just awful people to them
just a mad queen yeah just a like a stock character mad queen mad queen
yeah what i loved as well when aria turns up afterwards that she's given the speech and
yeah the dragon wings were behind her they should teach that shot in cinema school obviously
absolutely but uh when aria's like oh this this woman's no good and because you know why like i
know a killer when i see one you mean when you saw her kill a million people is that when you
figured it out?
Yeah, figured it out, yeah.
I just, like, lines like that, I just thought was,
and even there's an after the episode of that character
and why Daenerys turns, and she's like,
and they're like, well, even.
Oh, the two creators.
Yeah, even in the early days when her brother was,
had, like, the gold poured over his head and he died,
like, you saw in her face, she didn't even,
she didn't even care about him.
But he was, he sucked, she didn't like him she she essentially he he sold her off to slavery essentially so
so of course it's not a it's not a comparison i just i don't understand it yeah i didn't love
clegane bowl that fight i didn't love it well here's the thing i i mean it looked good yeah
that's another one of those things where it's like Sandor.
There we go.
He seemed to come to the realization that he was this sad, pathetic man.
Vengeful.
And his quest is pointless.
Yeah.
But then he had the fight anyway.
Yeah.
With an undead.
Well, not like this creature who is clearly not his brother anymore.
Some of it is.
I guess it's somewhere in there.
So, like, i look i understand
that they went okay well we need people have been clamoring for a fight between these two because
they're the two big you know it's the mountain and it's his bloody brother and it's the biggest
it's the biggest and i wanted to say it's the fight of the century but also like you've you've
brought one of the characters to the point where he's just an empty shell yeah and you brought the
other character to a point where he's realized that his quest is kind of pointless where he's just an empty shell. And he brought the other character to a point
where he's realised that his quest is kind of pointless
and he's sad and it shouldn't be happening.
And yet they fought anyway.
I feel a much more effective, or again,
submitting expectations.
I think to me a much more satisfying end
for both of those characters would be for Sandor
to be like, I don't have to do this.
I don't have to die for no reason to defeat this guy who is,
like, he's not going to feel defeated.
He's nothing anymore.
He's just this, he's a tree trunk at this point.
Yeah, that's right.
He's a tree trunk with a sword.
So I would just, I think it would be way more satisfying if it's like,
I've realised I can live and make something else of my life as opposed to being this monster and maybe maybe you could even do it like again i
don't want to be like well you should have done this yeah right but like he comes that realization
but then he has to fight him anyway yeah and then we get the fight yeah yeah i mean you but that and
that's the thing the city was crumbling yeah why not say you could be like i don't need you anymore
i can be i'm gonna be a good old family man and
and yeah build a little cottage and then the building collapses around him and he has to
fight him yeah he's like my cottage yeah exactly my car i don't have a cottage yeah there's also
a bit after the show after the thrones mason or whatever it's called where they're like well the
thing is because he when he pushed his brother and they fell off and he fell into fire like he
hates fire but he hates his brother even more than he hates fire.
Right.
Fearful of fire.
He didn't know there was fire down there.
No.
He just tackled him off into a wall.
Yeah.
Like it didn't,
that's not what happened.
I bet as he was falling,
he was like,
oh shit,
fire.
This is my least favorite thing.
Yeah.
This has gone from the best day of my life to the worst day of my life.
Side note,
there's a point right at the start of the season where they're like,
we don't have enough food for these soldiers.
We don't have enough food for the dragons.
This is going to be the worst.
How are we going to handle this?
We just did.
It was fine.
It was fine.
It was fine, I guess.
I guess everybody died.
It's fine.
Also, this was the shortest winter ever.
Yeah, well, like, I think the winter came with the snowman.
I see.
Yeah.
But they were like, this is gearing up to be the worst winter we've ever had.
The longest and the dreariest and the most dangerous,
and we're all going to die, so don't worry about it.
And then, like, a month later, it's fine.
It doesn't look that different than when it wasn't winter.
Yeah.
But the dragon had snow on it, and that's a good visual metaphor. That's a good point.
Yeah, you're right.
I don't know if I've got anything else to say about this.
It's fine.
I think overall the show is a massive triumph.
Oh, yeah.
I mean, there's been some great stuff.
Yeah.
As a non-fan of Game of Thrones.
Sure, that's you.
There's been some great action sequences.
There's been some great characters.
You can't sell short the acting, obviously.
Yeah, true.
Yeah, everybody is good in this.
Yeah.
I like the small council meeting at the end where they're all like,
and now we've got different jobs.
I don't know if we're going to work together, but each of us have got to.
I like Davos.
I'm like, that dude is the best guy in this series because he knows his limitations.
And he's like, I shouldn't even really be here.
I used to just, I used to carry onions for people.
Yeah, right.
And now he's like in shouldn't even really be here i used to just i used to carry onions for people yeah right and now he's like in charge yeah right yeah because every battle he's in he's like oh i'm not really a good fighter either exactly yeah yeah i'll survive by happenstance every time
yeah yeah either it'll be nice at the end he'd be like damn it i thought i was going to be the king
i thought i was going to survive by accident be the king if they made him king i'd be like yeah
yeah fair enough probably yeah you survive more than most people.
Yeah, but no, it's Bran.
Even at the end, they're like, we're having a meeting.
Bran's like, I'm just going to call that dragon.
So he's like, I'm going to see where the dragon is.
And then you guys carry on with your coins and your boats
or whatever you're talking about.
And good on Sam because he broke his vow to not have sex,
but I guess nobody cares because everyone's dead.
He broke so many vows and he stole so many things.
Yeah, that's right.
Is that the real lesson?
Yeah, break vows, steal things.
Yeah, and get it on.
Get it on if you can, sure.
That's right.
What would you give this last season?
Out of?
I guess best or worst.
Okay, I was going to say out of number of queens going mad.
I'd give it five queens going mad for no reason.
Yeah.
So that's pretty good.
That's a good amount.
I'd say I liked more than I didn't.
Yeah, right.
Okay.
But there's some pretty...
We can rate it out of six because there's six episodes.
I'm going to give it three out of six.
Yeah.
I think it's...
When I got to the last episode and like like Danny's mad and then she's stabbed.
Like I had to just go, it's done.
And you need to just move forward with who's left.
Yeah, right.
And from there.
You as a viewer.
Yeah.
I was like, well, okay.
I'm kind of okay with how this wrapped up.
Actually, my brother, the one you didn't like, sent me a text.
I'm like, what'd you think?
And he sent me a text messages of complaints.
You want it?
Oh yeah, absolutely.
Here we go.
Oh, it's so racist no okay there we go
i was furious what was the point of building up bran uh that bran can influence the past
john snow being a targaryen and uh azura ahai was irrelevant you know he's like the chosen one yeah
yeah uh what is john maybe was to kill the whatever i don't know look it depends it depends
who the i guess it depends on who he was supposed to destroy.
Like if he was supposed to destroy Daenerys,
I guess maybe he was.
Maybe it was Arya.
Maybe it was...
Maybe Jon Snow was...
Maybe Arya is the prince's promise.
Maybe the Iron Throne was the thing he was supposed to destroy.
Yeah.
In which case...
He didn't even do it to Drakendur.
He didn't even do it to Drakendur.
I know.
I know.
What is Jon going to do now that Nightwatch...
Now the dead are defeated and the wildlings are allies? I guess he's just going to go live in the woods, I know. What is Jon going to do now that the Night Watch, now the dead are defeated and the Wildlings are allies?
I guess he's just going to go live in the woods, I assume.
I think it's just a cushy Night Watch job now, right?
Yep.
Now it's just, that's what he always wanted.
He just wanted to be out there.
What happened to Mira?
I don't even remember who that is.
I'm just going to Google that.
Who is that?
From Aquaman.
Ah, she just continued on, I think.
That's right, I disconnected the internet.
Can you look up Mira? How do I spell Mira again? M-E-E-R-A. Okay. I know continued on, I think. That's right. I disconnected the internet. Can you look up Mira while I'm doing that?
How do I spell Mira again?
M-E-E-R-A.
Okay.
I know there's people screaming at us, but guess what?
We can't hear you.
And we don't care.
Is Tyrion getting Casterly Rock?
That's his home planet.
No, he's getting Castle Rock Entertainment.
Oh, that's pretty good.
The production company, yeah.
Where's Dro gone?
Dario.
That's the guy she left behind to look after the marine or whatever.
Who's going to pay
the second
the second son's
looking after marine
why is the iron
islands part of the
six kingdoms
when Yara specifically
asked to be free
and independent
from when she joined
Daenerys
are the Dothraki
going home
we don't know
we don't know
but that's the
I mean that's just
like any universe
isn't it Mason
yeah
like say if you died
which would be better
than if I died say
oh sure absolutely like the universe would continue to go on because you wouldn't be like but I never paid my car insurance isn't it, Mason? Yeah. Like, say if you died, which would be better than if I died, say. Oh, sure, absolutely.
Like the universe would continue to go on.
Because you wouldn't be like, but I never paid my car insurance.
But it's not your problem anymore, is it?
That's true, yeah.
Yeah.
So my brother needs to get over it is what you're saying.
I think he absolutely needs to get over it, mate.
Get over it.
No, I think there's a lot of valid points there.
I think a lot of people would also say, and look, I'm not necessarily inclined to argue that in a universe where you're subverting the expectations of a J.R.R. Tolkien Lord of the Rings fantasy universe, not everything has to.
Yeah.
Not every prophecy has to come true.
I hate prophecy shit anyway.
Yeah, right.
I like it when there's a prophecy.
Sometimes it just doesn't.
You know that character he left.
What's he doing?
Who cares?
He just lives and he works in a shop now. I feel like sometimes it just doesn't. You know that character he left. What's he doing? Who cares? He's just living.
He works in a shop now.
Why does everybody have to...
Not everybody has to become a king.
Mira leaves Winterfell and returns to her home.
Season 7.
I don't even know.
But who is she?
She?
Mira Reid.
Show me a picture.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, she just left.
Yep. Elder sister of a Georgian Reid and the only daughter of Howland Reid. Show me a picture. Oh, yeah. Yeah, she just left. Yep.
Elder sister of a Georgian Reid and the only daughter of Howland Reid.
Yeah.
Like you said, sometimes people just leave.
Some people just leave.
She just left.
She went back to her home.
Planet.
Yeah, planet.
Exactly, yes.
All right.
And that's the G.O.T.
Bros.
G.O.T.
Bros.
We did it.
We'll probably be back for the prequel and the inevitable sequel to this.
Yeah.
I know they say they're not, but you don't think they're going to be like Arya season in 10 years.
Oh, for sure.
Yeah.
Or Arya.
Yes.
Yeah.
There you go.
Night King prequel.
Yeah.
The Night Prince.
What's he been up to?
You know?
Listen to his dad.
That's right.
Or mum.
Trying to woo a princess with the help of a genie.
Or a prince.
I don't know.
I don't know what the Night King's about.
We really don't.
No.
And we never will.
Man, we've got to move on to Aladdin.
We talked about Game of Thrones so much.
We did, and we did, didn't we?
Yep.
And we didn't record it earlier in the week and put it up on Patreon,
and now we're cutting to a different segment we recorded later.
I feel like we did do that.
You don't know.
You don't edit this.
This will pay attention, to be honest.
So Aladdin, the box office, had a four-day US weekend did do that you don't know you don't edit this this will pay attention to be honest so aladdin
the box office had a four-day u.s weekend and it made 107 million dollars he had four days to do
it on a budget of 183 this will probably make its money back and be a hit good good age close to a
billion worldwide then that's how it goes sometimes so it goes in this business called show what did
you think the story was oh no there's a no. There's a lamp. It's Aladdin.
It's Aladdin.
Oh, yeah.
Just say it's Aladdin.
That's a shortcut.
Even you've seen Aladdin, though.
I've seen Aladdin, and therefore everyone in the world has seen Aladdin.
Yeah.
I was the last one.
So it's that, but it's live.
Yeah.
And longer.
It's kind of embarrassing for me.
Why's that?
Did you pee your pants in the cinema?
Yeah, well, yeah.
I really liked this.
Yeah.
I thought it was fun and charming.
But then when you peed your pants in the cinema,
people were like, he mustn't like that movie
because he's peed his pants.
He's probably scared of the movie.
No, I peed it because I didn't want to leave.
All right, everybody?
All right.
I like this an embarrassing amount.
Huh, there you go.
What about you?
I thought it was quite charming.
Yeah.
And I was going and going like, this ain't shit.
Like, I'm going to hate this. I'd be like, look at this dance number they put out. Look at this garbage. Yeah. And I was going and going like, this ain't shit. Like, I'm going to hate this.
I'd be like, look at this dance number they put out.
Look at this garbage.
Yeah.
Well, that's the thing, because prior to this,
they released a clip of the scene where Aladdin arrives in the city as Prince Ali.
Yeah.
And it was bad.
Yes.
Because what clearly they'd done,
I don't know if we've had an on-air conversation about this,
but we've definitely had an off-air conversation
where we were like, I think what they're trying to do
is they're trying to get some sort of combination of Bollywood
and old-timey.
Yeah, like the King and I.
Like King and I style musical where they could be like,
we're going to show you spectacle in the form of,
there's 100 people dancing and they're're in dancing information isn't that fabulous and we looked at that and we
went but this slow and weird slow and weird like it's it feels like when you see the scene in the
animated version it's so frenetic and wild he's jumping around and transforming changing form and
into all sorts of different things because as i said to, and I was planning to do a video on this,
but now I'm not, like the difference between that scene
and actually, you know, in the context of the movie,
it actually works somehow.
I think it ramps up.
Yeah, exactly.
We didn't get the full scene online,
but I think that particular scene does take a turn.
It's got a great finale.
It does have a great finale.
They should have just shown the finale.
Yeah. But it does, it starts out a little stilted and weird i went into this and i wasn't sure if i was going to enjoy it but and i and i think initially there's there's a certain for me
there's a certain uncanny valleyness to people singing when it's not live and it's overdubbed
i see i prefer that a lot of the time yeah because i found it quite
because there's a scene towards the start where aladdin is singing about his lot in life yeah and
i found it super weird yeah because he's running through the streets and singing and because the
he's obviously miming yeah right set to a thing that's been previously recorded yeah to me that's
so because it's always slightly off yeah okay it comes like
even if the mouth movement is exact yeah the facial expressions or whatever aren't exactly
the same and so i find it really okay unpleasant but i didn't find that for all the actors yes like
i think the act of actor playing princess she's a better singer than she's a better singer and
also i think she was better at emoting on on set so it looked like she was really she's professionally
trained and it's very evident.
And quite early
into this I went, oh yeah, that's right, Will Smith
is a multi-platinum recording artist
or he was. He's pretty good at this.
He is pretty good. Would you want to talk about the genie?
Okay.
You settle into the blueness of it
and it looks better than that
first clip that they released.
They've clearly fixed parts of it.
You can't see the
bald cap line
and he's,
it looks better.
I feel like we can
just do spoilers for this
because there's not,
again,
if you've seen Aladdin.
Yeah,
maybe we'll talk about,
yeah,
yeah,
you know what,
you're right,
let's just do spoilers.
It's the same movie.
It's the same movie.
There are some tweaks
to the,
the narrative.
There's a couple of
extra songs,
I think.
Yeah.
Which aren't terrible.
Yeah,
and they've tweaked,
not really, not really anything and they've tweaked not really
not really anything
they've tweaked
a couple of elements
of like how
certain characters
get to certain
scenes
they cut out
I think the stuff
they changed for Jasmine
was for the better
because they make her
more interesting
and at the end
she's not just
trapped in an hourglass
she is still a character
that despite being
potentially
in the royal family
and being the daughter
of a ruler of a nation,
doesn't know what money is.
She's still in that scene
because the scene where she meets Aladdin in the marketplace,
it's still like, here, children, you're hungry.
Just have this food.
Have this bread, yeah.
Yeah, that is odd.
That kind of flies in the face with the character
that they've kind of created in this movie.
Yeah, right.
But I thought the two leads were really good
and really good yeah and
really good together yeah and i like they kind of the aladdin guy captured the i feel like the
animated kind of spirit and he also looks a lot like it which which definitely helps yeah and she
kind of got some big pants that's a big pants they're not as big they could be bigger they
could be bigger pants but she also kind of elevates i think the character what what
like makes does new and different stuff with it because she wants to be right the ruler how do
you feel about jafar i thought i heard people were like he sucks he's no good i liked him
and iago as a combination iago sucks iago does is that a is that a famous person alan uh tudyk
oh okay yeah because he's not like a he's not like a talker he's just like a parrot that's
a slightly more intelligent parrot he's a parrot i mean he's a very intelligent. Because he's not like a... He's not like a talker. He's just like a parrot that can...
He's a parrot.
He's a slightly more intelligent parrot.
He's a parrot that says...
I mean, he's a very intelligent parrot, but...
Yeah, he's a parrot that says things that are relating to what is currently happening.
Yeah.
But he's not a parrot you can have a conversation with.
Yeah, exactly.
Yeah.
That was a part of this movie I did not like.
Also, yeah, I think the arcs of the character, they kind of fleshed out well, because Aladdin
kind of, he gets the lamp and he's like, I just want, you know, I just want arcs of the character, they kind of fleshed out well, because Aladdin kind of, he gets the lamp,
and he's like, I just want, you know,
I just want to fall in love and whatever,
and then Jen, he's like, people always want more,
and he's like, not me.
Yeah, right.
And then he kind of...
That was a fun message.
Yeah, and it also, it's the same in the anime,
but I think that they also did it well here,
and kind of, because this is like two hours and eight minutes,
and the anime is like an hour and a half or whatever.
Yeah, right.
And, yeah, I liked how things wrapped up with Jasmine,
how they were
like well now you're you can be the ruler because you know what you're doing and maybe we shouldn't
just give it to somebody who just waltzes in from another kingdom who doesn't know anything i love
the guy yeah the the prince i can't remember his but he's he's a he's a guy who i've seen in many
things he's in a bunch of stuff he's in black mirror the star trek one yes he is he's and he's
in he's in something as somebody's unbelievably hot, dumb boyfriend,
but I can't remember what it is.
Oh, Game Night.
It is Game Night, right?
Yeah.
But I think he's in another thing as well.
He's in a series where he's somebody's
hot, dumb boyfriend as well.
He's good.
It might be, is it Kimmy Schmidt?
I haven't seen a lot of Kimmy Schmidt.
I couldn't tell you.
I'm going to look it up.
Yeah.
Do you know Naomi Scott who plays Jasmine
was the Pink Ranger in Power Rangers?
Oh. Did you know that, Mason? No. You know what was good about the genie while you're looking that up. I'm going to look it up. Yeah. Do you know Naomi Scott who plays Jasmine was the Pink Ranger in Power Rangers? Oh.
Did you know that, Mason?
No.
You know what was good about the genie while you're looking that up?
I'm ready.
He, they leaned into like, this is Hitch.
They really did, didn't they?
Instead of, there's a moment where he's in the desert and he's like, I'm too much.
Like somebody stop me.
It was like the mask.
And I'm like, less of that.
Maybe just do.
And when he's just being Will Smith, which he is for most of this,
it's way better.
I agree.
It's really good that they didn't try to copy the Robin Williams-isms.
He doesn't do any impersonations or impressions or anything.
Maybe like a little bit.
He might do an accent or whatever.
But yeah. But it's mostly him they've picked. or impressions or anything. Maybe like a little bit, like you might do an accent or whatever. Yeah.
But yeah.
But it's mostly him they've picked, they've gone, okay, remember, you know, remember charming
Will Smith before he became a serious actor.
Remember he's just, just channel that.
Just do Hitch.
Remember the man you were.
Do Hitch.
And still are.
Do Hitch.
Yeah, do Hitch.
Exactly.
Yeah.
I can't believe Guy Ritchie directed this.
Yeah.
It's wild, isn't it?
There was a bit of moments where, do you notice like some of the chases were like sped up like artificially sped up i didn't notice that okay maybe it didn't
happen then yeah i don't know okay bits that i'm a little bit mad that they got taken out
are probably the scene where the monkey had a sword yeah and the and the guards are like he's
got a sword wait a minute we all have we all got bloody sword in there they took that out i didn't
like how the cave wasn't like hey i'm a big talking cave uh-huh
it didn't talk i mean it talked but it didn't like wasn't yapping away its mouth wasn't going
okay i kind of liked how they skimmed over the bunch of stuff at the start and they
compressed some stuff to put in right because some of the a lot of the newer stuff they put
in or stuff they expanded on i quite liked yeah right i think i like the ending of this more than
i like the animated ending um but you know at the start animated ending. But, you know, at the start, they're like, yeah, Jafar's in the cave
and the guy who's in the cave and the cave gets him or whatever.
And then they mesh Aladdin's first escape song where he's stealing stuff
and he's escaping with meeting Princess Jasmine,
which are two separate scenes in there.
Yeah, right.
And I think that works as well.
Yeah.
What's your favorite musical bit in this?
Friend Like Me, I thought was a good...
That was really good.
That's my favorite.
I'm taking my kid to see this and I've been playing it for him and he's just like he really likes it you know what i liked i enjoyed
you know why i liked the the it's prince ali he's you know he's coming to the town yeah i think maybe
i liked that bit more in seeing into the movies because prior to that we already got friend like
me which is like this super magical spectacular you know you know, so kind of frenetic, kaleidoscopic, what have you,
that you could just go, okay, they know.
They know what they're doing here.
They haven't gone, well, let's make it more like just a static musical on a stage.
So then I could go, well, okay, this bit is a conscious choice
to make it kind of more Bollywood.
Exactly.
Which I didn't, again, 100% love.
No, it's probably the weakest looking, probably.
It feels the most staged.
I also feel like they should have,
I think they should have gotten somebody
to do Will Smith's singing parts.
Yeah, they auto-tune him a bit.
I think he's great when he's,
I think a friend like me was good
because there's a lot of talk singing
and just talking.
I agree.
The bit at the start,
where he starts singing at the very start you need a bit of prince
you could have done it thank you you need a big you need a big something yeah i think it was it
was just kind of and i don't know how you if you can't do that like you know in yeah in post or
whatever but you need a big yeah i don't need a big booming something and then he can get into
the the rapping or whatever you know thank you yeah they could have got dj khaled i'm like is this dj khaled
and then he yells dj khaled i knew that it was well that's i mean that's ultimately all i wanted
which is a return to the pursuit of rappiness yes will smith singing will smith at the end
rapping what happened the events of the movie
in the trailer
I didn't get an opportunity
to enjoy it
because I had to run
out of the theatre
and then
because I breathed myself
and I had to say
Brightburn
like immediately after
which we'll get into
yeah the songs
were good I thought
and I think a lot of that
is because
a lot of these people
can actually sing
yeah right
Naomi Scott in particular
I think Aladdin
can sing but not to the extent that she can.
Yeah, right.
Which is fine.
But, you know, A Whole New World's good and whatever.
And her new song is really good, I thought.
The one about she won't be silent.
Yeah.
Like, normally I don't like a new song in a musical that I know.
Like, I remember when I saw Les Mis and they're like,
Jean Valjean's doing a new song.
And I'm like, get the fuck out of here with this shit.
But this one, I'm like, this is all right.
It looks, it's very crisp and clean and cartoony.
But I think it works.
Like it's kind of, it's clearly not a real place.
Like it's too clean and too hyper-colored and everyone's got bright, beautiful, clean clothing and whatever.
But because if it was really like this, you know, this town from whenever this is set, it wouldn't obviously look like this.
It'd be dirty.
Fresh, shiny, polished apples and whatever.
You know what I mean?
It'd be rotten apples and dirty bread.
Exactly.
The actor's name is Billy Magnusson.
He plays Prince Anders in this movie.
He is in Black Mirror and he's Russ in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
He's good, that guy.
He's all abs and being silly.
I like him.
Now, is he the silly boyfriend in Game Night
or is he the guy who just dates a lot of younger, dumber people?
I think he's the silly boyfriend.
I think you're a silly boyfriend.
What do you think of that?
What do you think of that, Mason?
Got me, got me.
Yeah.
I also enjoyed the arc of the genie,
and when he gets let down, and he's like,
Yeah, right.
Son of a bitch.
Exactly.
He said he was going to get let down, and then he was oh sorry i don't think you've mentioned with jafar you didn't
like jafar i don't know he i mean he was suitably sinister i guess but he's not yeah he's not the
same as the the cartoon version correct yes but i still thought he was good yeah yeah people are
saying he's too young he's too sexy yeah that's okay though i feel kind of person be young and sexy yeah i've just written here the
bird no good agreed uh i enjoyed the when jafar becomes the genie i thought that was handled
really well and how he was tricked into it and the genie used the the gray this is massive spoilers
people know that yeah but the genie uses the the gray
area of well i can turn him into anything yeah because he asked to be the most powerful being
and yeah right you know he kind of went well i guess okay i can work around this and i also
thought it was really the moment where will smith the genie yes gets turned into a real human like
you know it's coming yes and he but he doesn't expect it. And I thought he played that really well.
Like, it felt like he seemed like he was genuinely touched.
Yeah, for sure.
I think so too.
That gesture, yeah.
Is the handmaiden a new character for this movie
or was she in the previous one?
I don't believe so, yeah.
Okay, right.
But she was always like, this one's rich, you know what I mean?
You're all rich, it doesn't matter.
Oh, yeah.
It's true, yeah.
I wish that prince came back a bit later.
Oh, you wish?
Yes, I wish, Mason. It's true, yeah. I wish that prince came back a bit later. Oh, you wish. Yes, I wish, Mason.
Yeah.
You know, I kind of was a bit confused how the magic worked in this
because sometimes it seemed to be just like a glamour.
Like you could see through it if you kind of look hard enough
or you can kind of break it.
But other times you can turn someone into a genie.
Because, you know, Jasmine sees through that he's Aladdin.
Right.
And then they convince the Sultan's guards that he's not the real Sultan,
even though he's made the Sultan.
They're like, oh, yeah, he's not the Sultan.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
That's a really good point.
So I don't know how it works.
Some of it I think is superficial and some of it is like it'll change your DNA.
Yeah.
Kind of so.
Like it'll make you a big bird.
I like the big bird
I like the big bird
even though regular birds sucked
yeah big bird
good old big bird
yes
yeah
anything else in any of this Mason?
that's about it
that's Aladdin I reckon
I thought it was good
I reckon it's worth a watch
yeah
you know
you're not going to be surprised
no
but I think it looked good
it surprised me because I liked it
I wonder if I thought
this was going to be great
what I would have thought of it
yeah right but what were the odds you'd think it was going to be great I didn't think this was going to be great, what I would have thought of it. Yeah, right.
But what were the odds you'd think it was going to be great?
I didn't think it was going to be very good at all.
What they've done is they've carefully cultivated all the previous Disney live action movies to be bad
so that this one, your sights were set really low and you were pleasantly surprised.
Can we get a yes or no from people whether Aladdin is good?
No context.
No context.
Right?
And no context whether this is separate from the previous thing we asked.
Whatever that was, which I've already forgotten.
Do not separate it.
I have forgotten.
Yep.
That's how it works.
How'd that happen?
Was it Billy Magnusson related?
I don't think it was.
Yeah.
Yeah, it kind of threw me that it was good.
Yeah, right?
Like, I caught myself smiling during this, like, multiple times.
I'm like, ugh, gross. Ugh gross get it off yucky okay it's bright burn time mason oh i'm excited the movie bright burn some
people saw it most people didn't see it because of numbers but that's okay i feel i hope but we're
not they didn't see it because of numbers they were afraid to leave the house because of numbers
that's the tv show numbers that's right with dav David Crumhoff. Oh, I see, right.
People were too busy re-watching the TV show Numbers
and they would never leave the house.
Okay, now I get it now.
Maybe I should have stayed home and watched Numbers.
Maybe you should have.
But this week we're joined by Sam Loy,
who's a returning guest on the show.
He came on to talk about Aliens 3 and 4 a couple of years back.
That was just before Alien Covenant, is that right?
That's right.
Yeah.
It's from the Human Ordinary podcast, which has just started up with its brand new season.
Bit of a twist this season.
Twist.
You've got a team behind you, so you don't lose your mind.
That's right.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So we can do more stories more often.
And yeah.
And back to your mind thing.
Yeah.
So I can stay sane.
How are you finding it with having help from others and having other people involved?
Yeah.
I mean, it's good.
Like, because, I mean, one of the things that I wanted to do
was, like, have other people there so they can, like, listen to my stuff
and tell me what's wrong with it.
Sure.
As opposed to the internet being like, this sucks.
But it's like, well, I found that there wasn't much feedback.
Like, often I would get that positive feedback,
but I think, you know, maybe people are a little bit more generous.
Yeah, right, okay. You know, than say if it's, you know, like one of your shows where people but I think, you know, maybe people are a little bit more generous. Yeah, right.
Okay.
You know, than say if it's, you know, like one of your shows where people sort of feel, you know, you're besmirching something that I love.
And, you know, we don't do that terribly often.
So, yeah, so I get feedback, which is nice.
Yeah.
But, yeah, there's a bit of sort of like holding, you know, giving over the reins, I think.
Yeah.
Yeah, which has been tough.
If someone hasn't listened to it before,
what would you say is a good one to jump in on?
Would you say the new season, do you have a favourite one
to kind of get the idea of where people should come on board?
I like the train one.
I also like the train one.
That's a good one.
Yeah, well, that's an episode called FOMAS.
So, yeah, that's all about train enthusiasts,
we're supposed to call them, from the United States.
So, yeah, that's a good one.
I really enjoyed making the wrestling one from last year.
Yes.
And also there's one called Richard Cranium, which is –
can I swear on this?
You can say whatever you want.
So Richard Cranium is all about dickheads.
Whoa, wait a minute.
We didn't –
Watch it.
Watch it.
Watch it.
Oh, not that word.
No, that's right.
All right, sorry.
That's our word.
You can't use that word.
Apologies to all the dickheads out there.
But basically, yeah, you do human interest stories,
like sometimes something more serious, a bit quirky,
and it varies from week to week.
And it's such a fantastic show.
And now that you're home full-time doing this,
yeah, so you're devoting yourself to it 24-7.
Is that the idea?
Yeah.
You're ignoring your family.
I've recently left my day job because there was
uh yeah to do podcasts not full-time because i'm still a stay-at-home dad like half the time kind
of thing so but all of my income now is through podcasting so i hope the whole bubble doesn't
burst yes us too because we just built this studio as long as you don't say it on any kind
of recorded medium the jinx will not take effect excellent good i'll keep that in you don't say it on any kind of recorded medium, the jinx will not take effect. Excellent.
Good.
I'll keep that in mind.
Don't worry about it.
So train enthusiasts are called foamers.
Yeah.
Tram enthusiasts are called gunsles.
Gunsles?
Gunsles.
Where do they get that from?
Well, I believe.
So in like old-timey gangster movies,
there'll be like the main mobster,
and he's got like henchmen.
They're called gunsles.
It's like the disposable henchmen. so like the and like in those sort of movies they'd always be like leaping you know off the side of a car or hanging off uh hanging off with a tommy gun yeah exactly
and then they get like riddled with bullets and then they die yeah so so that's apparently what
tram enthusiasts would do back in the days they would just stand like directly in the path of a
tram and start taking photos so they were like oh they're gunsles like they're these disposable
idiots kind of thing and then it got tweaked a little so it's gunsles yeah and so do you ever
get any like like on the tram like trying to ask you questions not really they they're mostly a
silent uh like they're just you, you mostly see them outside.
Occasionally, they'll have like a tour of a depot or something like that.
Yeah.
And I think for the most part, they just sort of silently like, you'll be at a stop or something
and they will be in the way.
Yeah.
But they're better now.
They'll take a couple of photos with a telephoto lens or something like that and then they'll
just.
Yeah, right.
Because cameras have got better.
Cameras have got better, exactly.
Light out on the tracks. Wow. Yeah. That nice one all right gunzels so you're a
bit of a horror movie aficionado oh yeah that's why we got you in but before we talk about brightburn
i wanted to ask about alien covenant because i didn't catch up with you it was just before it
came out yeah and i thought it was pretty bad but where do you fall where do you fall on it
uh i thought it was better than what was the you fall where do you fall on it uh i thought it was better
than what was the other one prometheus prometheus yeah i thought it was better than prometheus but
yeah you can't forgive the stupidity of some of those characters like like it's it's hard to sort
of say that it's a great film i think if they had dealt with that in the script i think it would
have been a really great film yeah because a lot of elements of it are quite good.
Yeah.
It's cast well.
Look, I love the body horror.
I'm not usually so – like when I like horror,
I'm not so much about the gore,
but I thought the gore in this was really good.
And I really actually quite love that theme of David.
Yes.
You know, sort of creating something and wanting to be sort of more human. I think that's a really lovely theme. Yeah. But, yeah, just the whole stupidity of the. Yes. You know, sort of creating something and wanting to be sort of more human.
I think that's a really lovely thing.
Yeah.
But yeah,
just the whole stupidity of the whole mission.
I can't really,
is,
is,
was,
was covenant one,
another one of those ones where they get to the alien planet and they're
like,
well,
take the helmets off.
It seems fine.
That's right.
Hey,
there's an alien plant.
I'm going to sniff in the spores.
It'll probably smell like lavender.
Oh,
no death.
Well, and, and actually I don't think that's even the stupidest scene.
The worst scene, I think, is like after just about all of their friends are dead,
two of the characters go, hey, shower time.
Let's get hanging.
It's like, what are you doing?
Are you serious?
Stay dirty and live.
And then shower later.
I enjoyed the David asking somebody to put their face over an alien egg.
He's like, the answer's in this weird alien egg.
Oh, okay.
Oh, no.
Yes, yeah.
But, you know, again, apart from all that, I thought it was pretty good.
I think they're doing another one.
I think I read that recently that it might still be happening, the follow-up.
But because it's a Disney now, I don't know what's going on.
Did you see those short films they did recently?
I did.
Yeah, what did you think of those?
Some of them were all right.
Yeah.
I thought they sort of progressively got a little bit better.
Yeah.
As they seem to show sort of more of the alien.
Like, I'm big on the actual Xenomorph as well.
I want to see it.
I think in a lot of those shorts.
Yeah, it is.
Slick.
Yeah.
It's like an oil slick.
But I think on one of them, they only had like the baby Xenomorph, and it was just like, you know, a toy of those shorts. Yeah, it is. Slick. It's like an oil slick. But I think on one of them,
they only had like the baby Xenomorph
and it was just like, you know, a toy on a stick.
Oh, that's right.
Yes.
Yeah.
Which I guess is not dissimilar from the first one.
Right.
But yeah, no, I get what you mean.
Anyway, Brightburn.
Brightburn.
Seven million budget.
I reckon it's going to make about nine million in the US
on the four-day weekend and maybe end around 1821, which will make its money back.
Did you say it costs $7 million?
Yeah, I know, right?
It looks great for $7 million.
There's some pretty good special effects and body horror and things like that.
I really have no concept of what $7 million would buy.
It's like, oh, yeah, it looks great for $7 million.
Maybe we're all being lied to because all your Marvel movies cost $100 million plus.
Yeah.
Where's all that money going?
Like maybe it's all being creatively accounted away.
Chris Hemsworth.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
That's a good point, actually.
It's a lot of chicken breast as well.
So, yeah.
But there's obviously, like if you look like Adam Sandler movies, they cost like $50, $80 million.
But they look horrible.
Yeah.
Because he just goes, he just gives everyone,
all of his friends $10 million each.
Everybody gets a car as well.
Yeah, that's right.
Anyway, Mason, what did you think the story was?
Oh, no.
That's right.
Okay, so it's Superboy, but he's crazy.
Pretty much.
Pretty much it.
Sam, are you a Superman fan or like a kind of any Superboy?
Not really.
But, I mean, everybody knows the...
Yeah, of course.
Everybody basically knows the...
And when I was a boy, I sort of really grew up in the Christopher Reeves sort of Superman.
Yeah, right.
But never really read the comic, never sort of seen anything other than the movies.
But I feel like Superman is kind of that, like, if you had to ask your grandma what the plot of Superman was,
she'd be like, oh's a he just landed on
earth as a baby and yeah for sure yeah parents raised him well and yeah but i mean this is the
this is the little a little bit of a twist here i think this is this is is this the first big
screen version of like what if it was superman but he was crazy well man of steel was also kind
of that i guess that's true yeah, he knocked down a lot of buildings.
But no, I think you're right.
Yeah, I think it is that.
But I feel like if we had got a more recent version of Superman
where we saw him being really, really good and it was done well,
this maybe would have done better.
Because I think seeing dark, evil Superman is,
we're kind of been teetering on that recently anyway.
Yeah, there's more versions I think now what if superman but
he's there's a bit of a great he's not a boy scout he's a he's a nazi he's a conflicted man
and he's yeah we've had um uh injustice which is a video game series where lois lane is killed and
so superman decides to take over the world to and you know there's there's a whole bunch of
different comic books and things about what if there was a superman type character but he
the pressure of being superman drove him mad or like what if there's a whole bunch of different comic books and things about, what if there was a Superman type character, but the pressure of being Superman drove him mad?
Or like, what if there's a version of Superman,
but he was raised by the government as opposed to a kindly couple or what have you?
Like, there's a lot of comic book and video game kind of versions.
Sure, yeah.
And I think, I don't know if this is a bad podcasting to jump strike to the end.
Would you want to just go spoilers or?
Yeah, sure.
I mean, there's not really that
much to spoil from if you've seen the trailers it's goes about it goes about that yeah although
from the trailer i was like i know exactly how this is going to end and i was wrong about one
thing okay cool maybe let's maybe let's hold the end to the end actually okay what's up what what
did we like about this i like well bearing in mind you've said it was seven million dollars i think it
looks great i think I mean
a lot of the stuff
that we see in
the trailers
there's a lot of like
you know
there's flying
and there's heat vision
and there's
yeah
yeah
all sorts of stuff
it all looks great
you know
I thought
the way that it
started
was really good
I mean there was that
real sort of obvious scene
where they sort of
you know
focus on all the
fertility books
and you're like
oh okay
we understand
what's going on here.
But then when the thing actually lands and-
I think we're going to do it with socks on.
We're all wearing socks.
What?
Yeah.
I missed the first minute because I was saying Aladdin.
All right.
Yeah, right.
But then they have all the home movies and, dare I say it,
but as a father, like seeing like-
Someone had to say it, so it's okay, you did.
Seeing that kid like as a baby and all that,
it actually really, I bonded to that.
I was like, oh, this is really nice.
I got into it because I was like, oh, yeah, he's just a little boy.
And then it really set up for me that the film was going to be
about the relationship between the mum and the son
or the parents and the son.
See, that's interesting because I missed the first minute.
And as a father, that probably would have helped me a lot
because a lot of time I'm like fuck this kid yeah yeah right but um but
yes maybe if i'd have seen that because i did enjoy it but i feel like it kind of went a bit
there wasn't any ambiguity for me for is this kid good or bad it was like well he's mostly
terrible well but unfortunately it's kind of like after that start that's kind of where it went like
it didn't it didn't care like i was watching this and going
oh wow i think i might actually really enjoy this i might really get into this but then after that
it was yeah i feel like that there wasn't enough ambiguity in terms of like i didn't feel like
there was a struggle within the child of like okay is he going to be good or is he going to be evil
yeah it was kind of like he started out normal ish and then there's a there's a moment where things change and then it's it's just like well now he's just this dead-eyed
psychopath yeah yeah he's clearly just biding his time until he can do bad things there was
it was there was almost no like internal struggle like the the reason that he's changed
isn't affecting his his psyche it was just like flip the switch and now
he's bad and now he's bad yeah yeah and the whole thing as well i mean that at least i understand
roughly about superman is that you know he's this super guy but then he's raised really well yes
yes like and so that would have been interesting as well to see this kid in brightburn like
be a product of his environment not Not so much that it was just...
Because it was kind of like him just getting possessed.
Yes.
Really.
Yes.
Like, to me, like, the closest sort of movie to it was, like, you know, like A Conjuring or The Omen or something.
Yeah, right.
Like, he was just a kid that was getting possessed and doing bad things.
But if he had been, like...
You know, you saw that he got bullied at school.
Yeah, right.
If that had been a consequence.
Right.
Maybe, like, he had an abusive dad or something.
Yeah.
Yeah.
school if that had been a consequence maybe like he had an abusive dad or something yeah but somehow he kind of got molded to be a bad kid rather than yeah because yeah because i mean a lot like the
you're right the idea behind superman is like his parents had like these amazing you know middle
america a bit closer and like you know they raised him right and they they instilled him with good
moral fiber and what have you and like the the i the idea behind a lot of, well, what if Superman went bad,
is, like, what if he was raised in an environment which was bad for him
or, like, he didn't have the moral fortitude to follow through
on being a good guy and so things fell apart.
But, yeah, you're right, it was just like...
The alien ship kind of...
Was it influencing or did something, you know what I mean?
Yeah.
And it seemed almost like it was calling to him
and then you didn't even really see it.
He didn't really explain it
because I figured it was like at puberty,
something happened
and he started to like have this voice in his head.
But it was like the alien ship was calling to him
and then once he got to it, it injected him.
Put something in his head, yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
But it didn't really sort of show that.
I thought it was completely superfluous.
You could take all that out and still have the same movie.
Just have puberty's the trigger for his death.
And that's enough.
Like you don't need any of that stuff.
Yeah, I mean, I also feel like, you know, the horror itself was pretty –
I think some of the action that happens is pretty spectacular. The horror itself is kind of like you could really take out the alien spaceship and put in a rock with a pentagram on it.
Or like, you know, a virus or anything and just be like, that made him go crazy and with powers.
So like, I understand, you you know superheroes are so hot right
now and why not do a version where it's a superhero kid but also it's like yeah it was it could have
been it could have been anything really yeah yeah that's the thing they didn't lean into that
superhero side enough it was almost like they were wary about oh let's do let's do this like
interesting take on a superhero film but let's not be too obvious that it's a superhero film.
Like, so they lent more into like the horror elements.
But I was much more interested in seeing a different take on a superhero thing.
Like to see like the birth of a villain.
And there's stuff at the end that hints towards the things that happen in the future,
which I guess we'll talk to him about in spoilers that I go,
wow, I'd see that.
The gore though in this is pretty intense, which I didn't.
There's one moment in particular with a jaw, which is like, holy shit.
And there's a moment with an eyeball.
I don't think any of this.
Nobody gets up.
That's in a trailer.
The eyeball I'd see.
That's been released.
That's been released earlier, like a few months ago.
But, yeah, there's a moment where a woman gets a piece of glass
directly in the jelly of her eyeball and has to pull it out.
And it is horrendous.
Now, would you say, is that, that's not really par for the course, I think, now in horror movies right now, like a lot of gore?
Or is that?
Yeah, well, I think, because I am a big fan of horror and I seem to watch any horror that comes out.
There's such different types of horror. horror is such a broad genre these days like you know because you've got
something like hereditary yeah you've seen that i haven't you haven't yeah an absolute head fuck
like it's the most psychological of psychological horrors even though that it does have some gore
all right so you've got sort of that the the and then you got something like conjuring which is
just all creepy and spooky and scary and then you've got your gore fest yeah
i see that's that's i think where we fall down because we don't see a lot of horror movies so
we it's like that thing where you go oh well all metal music is exactly the same but then if you're
in in it yeah you can it's like people say all comic book movies are the same but then there is
there's a variety that's true yeah yeah actually Actually, just as a digression, they showed the trailer for Dark Phoenix before my session.
And I was actually struck by that,
and I caught myself thinking how different I actually find comic book films to be.
Right.
You can really draw a distinction between the feel of the X-Men franchise
and the Avengers and all of those films.
Yeah, absolutely.
They're such different sort of films really.
And then the things they've got going on on TV, like it's, there's,
because I think people kind of, you know, a lot of people think,
oh, it's just a cape and a whatever, but there is stuff that, you know,
like Umbrella Academy on Netflix.
I don't know if you've seen that or whatever,
which is more kind of grounded kind of, but yeah, exactly.
That's exactly it.
And I guess that goes for any genre,
like action movies aren't all just speed though they should be. That's exactly it. I guess that goes for any genre. Like action movies aren't all just speed, though they should be.
That's a great movie.
But yeah, there's a lot of gore in this.
And yeah, it's very grisly.
I knew the first one was coming up
and I'm like,
I had to shield my eyes a little bit.
On the big screen.
Yeah.
I have a great fear of things coming at my eyes.
Well, fair enough.
There's a good fear to have.
Yeah, right?
It's very reasonable.
Should we do spoilers? Yeah, let enough. It's good for you to have. Yeah, right? It's very reasonable. Should we do spoilers?
Yeah, let's do spoilers.
I'm going to say our rating system is best movie ever
or worst movie ever, as you know,
because there's no nuance on the internet.
So I'm going to say best movie ever.
I enjoyed it, and I would kind of like to see more of this,
but I feel like also it's, unless this makes $100 million,
I don't think they'll do another one.
Oh, they might, because if this makes $20 or $30,
they could make another one.
It's like the Blumhouse model.
They put no money into them and they do reasonably well
and then they can make another one.
I also thought everybody was pretty good in this.
I think Elizabeth Banks is great.
She's great, yeah.
As a woman struggling with the love of her child,
but also the child's a monster.
Yeah, yeah, totally.
I will also say best movie ever,
but some stuff that I would have, you know.
What about you, Sam?
Look, I think I'll say best movie ever as well.
Like I enjoyed it more than I didn't.
Yes.
And it was fun.
It was brisk.
Yeah, yeah.
Actually, and I wouldn't have minded maybe like an extra 10 minutes,
but anyway, but yeah, it was brisk.
I thought it was fun.
It didn't give me exactly what I wanted. But yeah, best movie ever.
Yeah.
I wanted it to be better.
Yeah.
You've got to watch two of this in the span of one Avengers Endgame.
Exactly.
If you're stuck for time, you really want to watch two movies.
All right.
Spoilers.
What I really liked, and they sort of touch on it, is this kid is basically like a bower
bird.
Like the aliens kind of drop him into a nest.
Or a wasp.
Or a wasp, wasp as they mention
and then they go and then so someone else raises it and then you know that i like that element i
would have liked to seen that maybe explored more or maybe not even but i just i just like that
element of i this is the plan for this race i never even picked that up i wondered like what
and i guess like the the mechanics are really irrelevant because it's just it's it's a it's a
mechanism for horror and we're all scared of this monster kid.
But I'm like, did the aliens know that that family couldn't have kids?
Or did they just shoot it out randomly and hope people were willing to adopt a weird baby?
Because if I found a weird baby in a ship, I'd call the cops.
But I guess then it would go to a foster home.
They'd have to be intelligent and
human ish and be able to monitor and understand people to do it i assume to have a kid like that
the descent i assume well and look and i think this really highlights one of the flaws in in
the script it's like when you consider it with with superman that opens on that like yeah like
you see you know a ball marlon brando like put the baby into the thing and like
and then off you go yep but you don't get that with this like like ostensibly it is his film
like it's the little kid's film but then it's not then it takes you away from him and his experience
and it doesn't then it just becomes like a just a just a scary thing that everyone else is going to
run from yeah like it needed more of that it, yeah, where's he come from and what's his struggles and all that stuff.
Because, yeah, I did feel like he's just crazy.
Like that's what it felt like.
And even when his mum's like, you know, he's like, I still want to do good or whatever.
I never really got that sense at all.
He was surprised when people would try to kill him and anoint him.
Yeah, right.
But I don't think that was like a goodness kind of shining through.
No, yeah, you're right.
I think there might have been maybe a couple of different versions
of the script and some things have been taken in and out.
Like there's a thing that he's never really, really properly explored.
It's like when his parents go through his things,
they see he's got like an anatomical drawing,
like pictures of people's insides.
And then later you see he's killed the the the mom the mom yeah and has like
opened her up yeah i think maybe there's maybe a version where he had x-ray vision like superman
yeah that's why he's confused because he's like you know oh you know he was confused about women
and and that and sort of he's he can look through people and that's why he yeah right but i think
maybe they took that out because if he had x-ray vision the scene at the end where he's blasting through the house and he can't
find his mum would have been over
so I think they were like well take the x-ray vision out
but this remained
and I think maybe that's the same thing where it's like
he struggled to do good
but he didn't really do any good did he
he didn't try like you never see him try to do
anything nice or save a cat stuck up
a tree or anything so I think they were like
well we've got to speed this up let's just say he kills some people and then he likes it yeah so
yeah it's a weird mask yeah yeah i was thinking maybe that's what the aliens look like oh with
the weird mask yeah right and they've altered him genetically to look human but now i didn't
miss something they didn't show you how what that mask was like no so even that that's what i mean
it's like why don't you show us that like you see when how even that that's what i mean it's like why don't show
us that like you see when how spider-man gets his mask and it's a cool scene yeah it's a cool
little origin yeah it's a cool little thing to like show like how did he design this and it
looked kind of looked like a i don't know like a like a sock like a footie sock that he'd opened
up and restitched together or something yeah yeah that's the thing because he said and again he said
like his his goal is to take over the world and clearly he's indestructible like nothing can harm him so why does he need a
mask yeah he just gets straight into it yeah you know identity i don't know i don't know i don't
know but i love how it takes i think about half an hour 40 minutes into the film for the parents
to bring up again the fact that he's a space alien.
It's like they find him and then completely forget about it again.
Even though by age 12 he's never bled, he's never been sick and all this.
You'd think it'd be interesting.
Yeah, yeah.
You'd think you'd say it every day.
Exactly, yeah.
Do you think it would have been more interesting if you didn't know
he was an alien and then they revealed that later on?
Like you know, like what's the deal with this kid?
And then they, and then it's revealed that he landed to Earth.
Like, would that have been a more interesting reveal or was that?
Yeah, maybe.
Yeah, maybe.
Yeah.
If they weren't going to go deeper into him, then yeah.
Get rid of it completely, I reckon.
Yeah.
Okay.
Yeah.
His dad shot him in the back of the head.
You guys remember that?
I remember that.
Wow. Yeah. Wow. Look, I can't relate to this. yeah his dad shot him in the back of the head you guys remember that I remember that well you know wow
yeah
wow
look I can't relate to this
you know
having not had any kids
I'm like sure you'd shoot
your kid in the head
you guys wouldn't shoot
your kids in the head right
yeah I don't
I don't think I could
yeah I don't think I could
I'd give you the gun
I'll thank you
and that
that kind of
came out of nowhere too
like as soon as I got
on the camping trip
I was like
ah dad's dead
yeah absolutely
but I thought
I thought it was going to happen
in a different way
like it was just going to be
you know
a product of you know
pre-teen angst
and he was just
you know my dad
yeah
but yeah
if I'm going to shoot him
it's like wow
that's a bit heavy
I did like how they
weren't fooled by him
like they're like
he's lying
he's clearly lying
he's up to something
maybe he's a murderer
we don't know
but there's never there's not really a point where they pretty quickly get
past that he's a good kid and he'll never do anything wrong they're like no he's probably
pretty bad yeah yeah yeah for sure like they're not complete idiots yeah i think i appreciate it
they're idiots but yes sorry yeah yeah yeah i also feel like the the i and again it's not properly
explored but i think that because eliz Elizabeth Banks' character found the kid first,
I think maybe the ship imprinted something in her.
Because there's a scene, there's like the dream sequence with the dad
where he sees Elizabeth Banks sort of turn around
and she's got blood coming out of her eyes and et cetera.
And I'm like, is that why she's more protective of the son?
Not because he's the son and she loves him,
but more because the ship has told her to...
Mums love their kids more than dads.
I guess that's probably true, yeah.
It's true, yeah.
Science.
Yeah.
Or something like that.
Sam, you've made notes.
I've made notes.
This is professionalism at work.
I make notes, Mason.
I make notes every week and you never give me no kudos.
No, that's a blank screen.
It's a mirror yeah
of course
you've even drawn
the Brightburn logo
I did yeah
I was doodling
because I quite like that
I quite like the logo
that's something a kid
does as well
they do like a
like a weird symbol
for themselves
what I would have liked
what I would have liked
is if he'd made himself
a costume
and then on the front
it had like that S
you know that S
that kids all draw
yeah exactly
Stussy S or whatever it is you mentioned the ending earlier uh yeah what about that did so i
so there's that that scene where you got the uh the conspiracy theorist on youtube
yes like as a credits roll and something flashes on the screen and and as i was reading a review
about it later someone with more knowledge than me suggested that there's a picture of potentially, like,
alternate versions of Wonder Woman and Aquaman and all this kind of stuff.
Yeah, like a weird evil Justice League.
Yeah.
So that's interesting.
So I don't know if they're planting the seeds there for, like, others to come,
but I would really, really like to see more.
I think they've created
although the movie
had a lot of flaws
to it
I think they've created
a really interesting
sort of concept
that I'd love to see
yeah right
a really interesting world
yeah because
the one of them
is a kid who's
strangling people
with a piece of rope
or something
yeah she's a witch
kind of creature
yeah
and there's a weird
fish man
and they look like
there might have been
a flash or a Martian
manhunter or
one of those
yeah so like as I mentioned before there's a lot of different versions of this in comic books.
There's one that I like.
It's called Supreme Power.
And it's by Marvel.
And it was created many years ago.
It was like a dig at DC Comics, like Superman and what have you.
And it's like a – the version is basically that a baby lands on Earth and in a little spaceship.
And explodes, but it hits the ground.
Would the baby explode?
Yeah, just straight to the ground.
So this kid is raised by the government on a diet of propaganda
and like America's the best and we won the Vietnam War and blah, blah, blah.
And then he escapes.
And then it turned out that his ship, upon entering Earth's atmosphere,
like seeded DNA across the world to create other super beings.
Oh, yeah.
And then it's never properly explored, but it seems like they were created to fight him, to like train him and make him a more dangerous opponent for whatever reason.
Right.
And I feel it's kind of like, that's kind of a parallel here.
Yeah.
What are these other creatures for?
Is this a world where there's always been
horrible monsters lurking
in the darkness
or whatever
there was a meteor
there was a picture
of the meteor storm though
and there was something
like six or seven meteors
so I just assumed
that they all just
went to different places
I don't know
that's just speculation
I have no idea
ah right
I didn't see
oh okay
that's interesting
I saw that as just like
the same meteor
taking like six times.
Maybe it was that.
No, I like yours better.
Let's go with yours.
But what I thought was odd, it took her 10 years to Google meteor shit.
Yeah, right?
Yeah.
But they didn't have Google in 2009.
Yeah, you're right.
Is there a book of Superman as well where he lands in Russia during the Cold War?
Yes, Superman Red Son.
Yeah. And he's raised by the Soviet Union as their champion. Yeah in Russia during the Cold War. Superman Red Son. Yeah.
He's raised by the Soviet Union
as their champion.
Yeah.
That's a good one.
Yeah.
That's interesting too.
Yeah.
Absolutely.
Look,
if there's a place
Superman could have landed,
they've done a parallel universe story.
There's also Superman True Brits.
Yeah.
John Cleese.
John Cleese wrote it.
Yeah,
where he lands in England.
It's bad though,
isn't it?
It's pretty bad. I haven't read it. It's pretty bad lands in England. It's bad though, isn't it? It's pretty bad.
I haven't read it.
It's pretty bad.
Look, I'm sure it's, I think it's like, it's one of those ones,
it's a superhero story written by somebody who doesn't read a lot of superhero stories,
I think, so it's like, you know.
There's every variation.
There's what if Superman landed where Batman was or whatever.
Yeah, there's a bunch of them.
Yeah.
Good on it.
Anything else?
Anything else about Brightburn? No, I think we're covered. I mean, I think it was a bunch of them. Yeah. Good on it. Anything else? Anything else about Brightburn?
No, I think we're covered.
I mean, I think it was a really confused film.
Like, I found the gore was a little bit out of place,
like when it sort of happened, like especially that jaw one.
Oh, my God.
I was sort of like, what?
Really?
I've got to put up with this?
I thought that was – because I thought, you know,
based on my very limited viewing of other horror movies,
I thought it would be like, well, you see his face cave into the dashboard and that'll be it yeah then to come back to it later
but the interesting thing about that and again it's it's a bit of a flaw i think it's like i
didn't care a jot for the people that he murdered apart from maybe but even dad like dad tries to
shoot his son in the back of the head that's's what you get. Yeah, that's what you get, exactly. But, like, the girl's mother, like, the only things that she's done in the film thus far
is, like, be a bit of a jerk to him.
Yeah, that's true, yeah.
And then, again, it's his film.
You're trying to see it through his eyes.
So, kind of, well, she kind of deserves it.
That's what I mean.
It's, like, the film doesn't sort of know who it wants you to root for.
Yeah. Yeah.
And that's the thing, but she's mean to him because he was a creepy psychopath
and, you know, showed up at the daughter's bedroom and all that sort of stuff.
At least he didn't murder her.
Yeah, that was really creepy.
Yeah, it really was.
But what I enjoyed, I think, is it did get, in that sense,
it did illustrate, like, how horrifying that would be if there's one.
Like, one thing I liked about Man of Steel, that movie,
is to me it finally got the sense of, like,
what if there was a guy who could fly fast in the speed of sand
and blah, blah, blah, and he's, you know,
they're knocking over buildings and flipping trains
and being hit by tanks and nothing's happening and kind of thing. i got i like the idea of like well this kid is super fast
and can fly and super strong and invincible or whatever that would be terrifying yeah like the
idea that he can just you know the the lights go on and off for a fraction of a second and all of
a sudden he's gone yeah he's back and then he's you know that that i like that was very effective for me
yeah for sure and like a three-year-old who could pitch you across the room yeah it's terrifying
because they would yeah yeah right absolutely would yeah would have been nice to have seen
that like in the home movies at the start which which you missed anyway but like they could have
had like a little scene there was no it was just normal yeah it was normal kids yeah nice yeah
should have done something like that yeah there was really yeah there was really no indication
and i mean we've covered this but there was no really there was no indication that he would
become a monster like normal normal normal lunatic yeah with mask yeah but now that that's over like
i don't know what horror film i've got to look forward to now i always look forward to the horror
films when i see the trailers and i'm like, yes. You're a Terminator fan?
Yeah, yeah.
I mean, they're not really horror movies anymore, are they?
Now, what ones are they discounting?
Everything but one and two.
Oh, really?
Yeah, yeah.
Oh, okay.
Well, that's good.
I'm excited for that.
He's back.
Yeah, yeah, right.
But it will probably
not be great either,
I'd imagine.
Yeah.
I knew they weren't going to do
what's the genesis.
Yeah.
Are you supposed to say that?
Genesys.
Oh, just Genesis.
Oh, all right, all right.
I'm going to Google upcoming horror movies.
Yeah, here we go.
I'm going to get your take on some of these.
Yeah, nice, nice.
There's another Conjuring, I assume, coming up,
and there's another Annabelle, I think, as well.
Yeah.
How are you on those?
I'm not.
Look, I actually watched Conjuring 2 for the first time the other day
because it was on Netflix, And it was all right.
I didn't mind it.
Usually I don't like sort of the haunted house kind of films.
I think they're very stock standard.
They're very formulaic.
And so I usually give them a miss.
But it was all right.
Is there anything you've seen at the cinemas this year which is good?
I feel like I've seen a good horror movie recently.
I've had no idea what it is.
Was it It?
Because It Chapter 2 is coming up.
That's on the way.
That will be good.
There's a Child's Play remake. I have no idea what it is. Was it It? Because It Chapter 2 is coming up. That's on the way. That will be good. Yep.
There's a Child's Play remake.
He's like an Alexa series style talking doll. Voice of Mark Hamill.
Mark Hamill, yeah.
Which is ballsy because Brad DeRiff is still around.
Yes, he is.
So there's a movie called Crawl, which is about...
Oh, Big Crocodile.
Yeah, I want to see that one.
I want to look out.
Is that Australian?
I don't think so.
It looks really good though.
I haven't seen the trailer though. I have to see that one. Is that Australian? I don't think so. It looks really good, though. I haven't seen the trailer, though.
I have to get on that.
Did you just hear yourself?
It's not Australian.
It looks really good, though.
What a twist for the Australian film industry.
That's right.
Non-Australian films can be good, James.
Yeah, more often than not.
What about, did you see Us?
Yes.
What did you think?
Disappointed.
Okay, what about that? Yeah, weappointed. Okay. What about that?
Yeah, we can talk about that.
What about it?
Weird and confusing?
It was very confusing.
Yeah, it was really confusing.
Like, I still don't...
And look, having now watched The Twilight Zone,
have you guys watched that?
I've been watching it, yeah.
James, you don't care for it.
Not really.
It's awful.
Yeah.
That's a shame.
I thought you were going to say it's good.
No, it's really, really awful.
So I'm thinking more and more. Weird messages and broken universes. Just's awful. Yeah. That's a shame. I thought you were going to say it's good. No, it's really, really awful. So I'm thinking more and more.
Weird messages and broken universes.
Just terribly, terribly written.
Yeah.
But now I'm thinking that Get Out was like the exception.
Well, Get Out's fantastic, but then follows it up with Us,
which I don't think is very good,
and then Twilight Zone, which I don't think is very good.
So maybe Get Out is like the anomaly.
I don't think he's got that much to do with Twilight.
I bet they're like, what about like an alien that lands in a police station?
Does he have anything to do with it?
Or is he just...
I assume...
He's like exec producer.
Right, okay, right.
But he's busy making his own stuff.
I can't imagine, like time-wise, how much could he put into it?
You know what I mean?
Yeah.
But every episode, I'm like, there's a big game-breaking element in that that they kind
of overlooked.
Yeah, totally.
Yeah.
And I keep on watching them because I'm like,
I still kind of dig the concepts and sort of the stories in some way.
And you like a Black Mirror, I assume?
Yeah, I love Black Mirror.
That's back soon as well, which is exciting.
Yeah, I'll be pumped for that one.
Because, you know, the idea of the Twilight Zone is great.
Yeah, yeah.
You know, it's black and white and it's the 60s
and it's a mysterious tone and all the unlimited possibilities.
But maybe that's, it's better to remain as a thing
we fondly remember.
Yeah, for sure.
And the moral never makes sense to me.
It's like, and there was an alien, but maybe there was
too many aliens and I don't know.
Did everybody learn a lesson?
Did they?
I don't know.
It's like, what's the point of this?
Yeah.
Yeah, the closest one that I find that was like the old Twilight Zone,
like, was the first one, the comedian.
Oh, right, yeah.
Yeah, like, that's the closest to being a real Twilight Zone story,
you know, because there's a guy who sort of gets a bit of power,
abuses it, and then there's a sting in the tail, a bit of a twist. Yeah. That's Twilight Zone, you know because there's a guy who sort of gets a bit of power abuses it and then there's a sting in the tail a bit of a twist yeah that's twilight zone you know all these other ones are
just like oh yeah you know story have you yeah learn your morals and they're very woke what if
a kid was president right yeah well what if a kid was president good question yeah you should watch
the twilight zone yeah well it's apparently they've relaunched in black and white now so
if you want to watch it in black and white. I don't think that would add.
No.
Okay.
All right.
Just checking.
All right.
There's Are You Afraid of the Dark and Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark.
Like kids' ones.
They're more kids' ones.
Oh, yeah.
And there's a Zombieland Double Tap is coming out, I think, towards the end of the year.
Oh, yeah.
Which is, I mean, that's more comedy.
It is.
Yeah.
That's true.
But I do know there's, what's his name?
Ari Aster, who did Hereditary.
So he's got a new film coming out.
Oh, does he?
Not too long.
I think it's called like Midsommar, I think, maybe.
Oh, I saw that.
It's like a weird cult thing.
Yeah.
Yes.
That looks really interesting.
Yeah, like Tagans and stuff.
Yeah, so I'll be keen for that.
There's a movie.
I'd not heard of this before.
It's got Ewan McGregor in it.
It's called Doctor Sleep.
Oh, yeah, the new Stephen King one.
Oh, yeah? That's a sequel to The Shining. Oh, that's's called Doctor Sleep. Oh, yeah. The new Stephen King one. Oh, yeah?
That's a sequel to The Shining.
Oh, that's coming out in November.
Oh, really?
Yeah, as an adult.
Oh, interesting.
Oh, I haven't heard of that.
Oh, very good.
Nice one.
The sequel to The Shining.
Yeah, not the Stephen King directed The Shining that he did.
The Kubrick one.
Yeah, the Kubrick one.
I see.
Yeah, which Stephen King disowned.
Yes.
Yeah.
Weird.
Yeah, very weird. Have you guys watched Chernobyl? That's out at the perfect ice shoe. Which Stephen King disowned. Yes. Yeah. Weird. Yeah, very weird.
Have you guys watched Chernobyl?
That's out at the moment?
No.
I went to watch it last night and it wasn't on anything.
And then I see it's on Foxtel.
I'm like, well, fuck it.
Now I have to steal it.
Don't I?
I'm not getting Foxtel.
Yeah.
Yeah.
It's bloody good.
Yeah.
I've heard nothing but good things.
Yeah.
Yeah.
No, it's really, really good.
It's interesting.
I kind of like watched a couple of episodes of Twilight Zone
and then switched over to watch an episode of Chernobyl
and it's like, wow, chalk and cheese.
But I mean, the funny thing being that Chernobyl,
based on true events, is more frightening
and has more sort of lessons and more otherworldly
than anything in the Twilight Zone.
But no, Chernobyl, good stuff.
Check it out.
Check it out.
Yeah, that's my seal of approval right there.
Excellent.
And people should also check out Human Ordinary.
Oh, yes.
Good segue.
Thank you.
I'll link the wrestling episode below then.
Yeah, cool.
It'd be a good one to check.
Yeah, I had a lot of fun making that because, you know,
wrestling was a thing I used to be into heaps when I was a kid.
And here I get to go backstage at a professional wrestling event and meet the stars and all that kind of stuff.
And get the goss, get the lowdown on sort of what happens.
Yeah.
Which was a really big thrill for me.
So, yeah, yeah.
Check that one out.
It's called The Sport of Kings.
The Sport of Kings.
All right.
Excellent.
Yeah.
It's below.
Thanks, Sam, for coming on.
Really appreciate it.
Thank you, Sam.
No worries.
Thank you, guys.
We'd love to have you back for another horror movie or just a movie that you've seen.
Whatever you want.
Well, I watch lots of stuff when I'm washing the dishes these days.
Absolutely.
Yeah, because our phones have got everything on them.
So the phone goes on the windowsill, wash dishes, watch crap.
Oh, and I just remembered.
I should have mentioned this earlier, but Sam and I were on an episode of Book Cheat.
Yes, we were.
Last week, Dave Warnocki's great podcast about books.
We talked about The Tempest.
It was a bloody good old time, I reckon.
It was a good time.
I like that.
I haven't listened to that yet.
Is it good?
Yeah, I like that.
What, The Tempest?
No, no, I don't care about that.
Is the podcast good?
I'm not interested in reading it.
One of Shakespeare's works, is it good?
It's fine.
No, it's a good podcast.
Yeah, it's great.
Yeah, Dave's a good guy.
Good old fun time.
Yeah, so listen to that as well.
All right.
Thanks again, Sam.
No worries.
Bye, Sam.
I'm doing the thing.
What are we reading today?
Oh, my God.
It's the what are we reading section of the podcast.
Yes.
My favorite section of the podcast because I know I can finally do something else because
I'm getting towards the end or whatever.
Oh, I see.
Right.
You know what I'm talking about, Mason.
Sort of.
Actually, no. I like doing this this what am i talking about this isn't
even a real job i'm an idiot anyway mason you're an idiot too and what have you been reading
absolutely what have i been reading uh i think i'm gonna i think i'm gonna watch terminator genesis
what are you doing i think i'm gonna do it are you gonna watch uh are you gonna see if you hear
what's going on with the new batman with batman tom king's off oh yeah he's not going to get to finish his run, but he is going to do Batman and Catwoman.
Yeah, right.
Because apparently it was a big deal because the Hulk, the immortal Hulk, outsold Batman.
That's it.
I've written down.
I've started the immortal Hulk.
I've written me a little book, Immortal Hulk.
Yeah.
There it is.
Immortal Hulk at the bottom there.
I'm going to get to that because I hear it's, I read this week that they went to the fifth printing of Immortal Hulk 1 the bottom they are going to get to that because I hear it's I read this week
that they went to the
fifth printing of
Immortal Hulk 1
it's good
like it's people are
bloody loving it
and they keep going back
for more
so don't spoil it
but that's
that's what I'm getting to
I think
so how many issues
are you into that
probably three
but I bought like
the omnibus thing
on Comixology
but yeah
no it is good
and also
I think they needed
to factor in that
the Immortal Hulk
probably outsold Batman because of Avengers yeah right I mean also because it is good and also i think they needed to factor in that the immortal hulk probably outsold batman because of avengers yeah right i mean also because it's good obviously
that that's but yeah so tom people are kind of upset that tom king doesn't get to complete his
run but he's kind of wheeling batman catwoman i'm not up to date with did tom king do the the
the batman catwoman wedding that was yes he did that is that where the downfall started because
i think yeah because people are very mixed on that.
Yeah, right.
But again, I'm not up to it.
I'm not up to that, yeah.
Yeah.
So there you bloody go.
But yeah, he did Mr. Miracle, which we love.
That's a great one.
He did The Vision.
So I think he's certainly geared towards certain storylines
and maybe kind of closed in.
Yeah.
Like not an ongoing.
Sure.
So maybe Batman Catwoman is for him.
Yeah. Maybe it's a
limited series maybe it's for all of us maybe we'll outsell the immortal hulk um yeah i think
the last batman series i read was that was it scott snyder doing the war of jokes and riddles
i think that's where i tapped out i enjoyed that okay the war of jokes okay i don't know which is
that the end bit because he's coming back as well because he's doing the end of his story arc oh i see where batman's got like the joker's head in the lantern
or something they released a trailer and he's it's the future yeah batman the last last night
of something yeah this little animated trailer so i'm gonna get into that that got like a million
and a half views but so i'll be definitely getting into that but if we're talking about what we're
watching and reading yes which we are listen up yes i watched all of catch 22 the george clooney um series which is based on the book which is about
it's a catch 22 in world war ii where if you if you want to get out of flying planes uh you can
have to be crazy but the catch is if you're flying planes that means that you're crazy and you should
be out but then if you ask to be out that means you're sane because you don't want to fly planes.
Yeah, for sure.
So it's this infinite loop that you're stuck in.
Hence the expression catch-22.
Exactly, Mason.
That's right.
I made that connection.
I'm the first person to make that connection.
How did you even do that?
I did it.
I did it, though.
It's got Christopher Abbott, who is the lead.
It's got Kyle Chandler.
It's got Hugh Laurie.
The best way I could explain it is, as a series, it's like MASH.
It's like modern MASH.
Like it's really funny and then awful.
They should have called it modern MASH.
Modern MASH.
And you know what?
It's fantastic.
It's six episodes.
All right.
Okay.
And it kind of really captures like-
And six episodes in is that, that's the series.
That's it.
It's done.
It's an adaptation of the book?
Yes.
Okay, right.
It's on Hulu and...
In Australia, it's on Stan.
It's on Stan.
So, look, I'd highly recommend this.
Like, if you like World War II stuff,
if you like Band of Brothers and stuff like that,
it's like a wackier Band of Brothers.
Okay, all right.
Because I...
Yeah, I'm not a huge fan of the war genre
just because it's so bleak Especially the historical war
This is definitely bleak
But there's some really quirky
There's one particular thing I want to give away
Because it's very funny
Have they oversold the presence of George Clooney in it?
Because he appears a lot in the trailers
Yeah he's in it but he's not in it a lot
Because I'm sick of that George Clooney
You don't like him? I think he just wanted to film in
italy where this is set he's like i'm gonna go to italy in my italian villa i got a kid now i'll
ruin my life that's probably things i got a kid and a wife what was i doing he was could have been
single and free forever yeah you get they get everybody mason maybe they'll get you oh no that's
right uh anything else that we're reading and watching
that's about it i think but good reminder on immortal hulk because i hear i've heard nothing
but good things about that it's on the bottom of your list though you got some other things you
got to get through obviously let me let me see what i this is a very long this is an old list
hang on what else is on this list uh i'm gonna reread lucifer and sandman mystery theater which
is not the magic sandman it's the 1930s crime fighting Sandman which was a good series
are you going to
watch the Lucifer TV series
which is probably on Netflix
I've watched some episodes
of that
I think maybe we've
talked about it on this show
or off air
but I think it's one of the
it's a show that I
I watched maybe
a season of
while doing other things
yeah
I feel
because I
like
breaking planks of wood
yeah
it's a very
like it's a very loose
adaptation of the comic book in the sense that Lucifer,
the comic book was, which is a Sandman spin-off, Magic Sandman.
Yes.
Not Old-Timey Sandman.
Yes.
It's, you know, his life on earth and these huge, but also these huge cosmic events around
him.
But this is basically just-
Runs a nightclub or something?
It's basically a police procedural where it's like the mentalist
or like Castle.
Are they like, are you Lucifer?
Yeah, he's like, I am Lucifer.
So he just tells people.
Pretty much.
Why is he helping?
Because he's just intrigued with humanity, I think.
I bet this gets a bit under his skin though sometimes.
Yeah, a bit of a little.
And he's like, maybe I'll do a good thing.
Yeah, and it's basically like he runs a nightclub,
but also he teams up with a cop
who's like
what are you
what's your deal
and he's like
I'm Lucifer
and she's like
no you're not
and he's like
no I am
no I reckon
I reckon I am
reckon I am
reckon I am
that's his catchphrase
no I reckon I am
is there a weird
sexual tension between
no I don't want that
because he's the devil
yeah
well he'd be charming
wouldn't he
is he charming is he British he's charming and. Yeah. Well, he'd be charming, wouldn't he? Yeah.
Is he charming?
Is he British?
He's charming and British, yeah.
Fucking knew it.
Yeah.
Is it time for letters?
Which is the most foreign element of this.
It's the most mismatched part of the duo.
It's not that he's the devil.
It's that he's British.
He's American.
Can you imagine? He's like, what is it?
Come on.
Speak English.
What do you mean bangers and mash?
That is what I meant. That's What do you mean bangers and mash? That is what I meant.
That's...
That is what I'm banging.
Yeah, that's right.
I'll name bangers and mash.
Should we do letters then?
The devil would be British.
He'd have that accent, wouldn't he?
If he's the charming one.
I guess that's what we're doing.
But if he's like the doomed devil where he's just like a big goat-legged horned monster.
What if he was like Hugh Grant?
What if he's Hugh Grant, British?
That wouldn't work as the devil
yeah mate depends on the in the universe oh lovely oh anyway lettuce yes he was in bedazzled
you remember that bedazzled was he no i'm thinking of somebody else you're thinking of
brendan frazier i'm thinking of you're thinking of liz hurley because that's the date or whatever
i don't think they were married. Maybe they were. All right. Letters? Yeah, nah. You can tell from this.
The classic one was letters, oh letters.
We love you.
Some letters, they're only a day away.
I know they're here right now.
We're going to do letters.
I had to hold the phone and the microphone.
This is a nightmare today.
It's a nightmare.
And I can hear the crackling of the microphone through the thing.
People are going to be very upset.
If you're upset at Claire because she's done this, tweet yes or no.
Tweet a yes or no at us.
Again, no context.
No context.
If I move, I mean, it's too late now.
It's fine.
It's not that bad.
It's fine.
I mean, or it might be.
I don't know.
If you want to reach the show, hashtag weeklyplanetpod on Twitter, or you can reach us through Gmail
at weeklyplanetpod at gmail.com.
You said you're a bit light on emails this week, Mason.
Not as many emails as you think.
Interesting.
Do you want to go first, or do you want me to go first?
No, go first.
Okay, this is from Rodri...
Hashtag WeeklyPlanetPod.
You having a stroke?
Yep.
Okay.
Can Mystique create clothes?
If she morphs into a lady wearing a jacket, or a man, takes a jacket off and morphs back,
what happens to the jacket?
She can't take the jacket off.
I don't think she could.
I think she could show you what's under the jacket and reach into a fake pocket.
Yeah, right.
But I don't think she could remove it from herself.
Yeah, I agree.
Because she'd just peel a layer of her skin off.
Peel a layer of her skin off, yeah.
If you remember in the first X-Men, she turns into Wolverine, she creates claws, and then
Wolverine just chops the claws off.
And she's like, ah!
Yeah, exactly.
What happened to those bits?
Don't know.
Which bits of her was it?
Exactly.
I reckon it was her little toes.
Oh, no.
That's why she always wears boots.
Is that true?
I don't know.
I've never looked down.
In your life?
Never.
You should.
You could trip.
No, I'll never.
I'll never do that.
Well, that was a quick answer to that.
I thought we'd have some more banter, but I guess we don't need it.
No.
We've had plenty in the past.
Go back to a previous episode.
What have you got?
Let's see.
Somebody has some thoughts on the Joker screening.
They saw it.
Jack Jamp says, I saw Joker last week.
I'd like to give you the Weekly Planet exclusive, but I'm not sure how.
No spoilers?
Not really.
Just general?
Just this great movie, best movie ever.
There's nothing big spoilery in here, but...
He becomes a Joker, I assume, during the movie?
He is.
Okay.
Well, that's good.
Yeah, it is good.
Because often whenever we get those, they're like, it was crap.
Yeah, and we don't know what to think.
Yeah.
And then it usually turns out to be crap, even though they tweak it.
Adam Nielsen's emailed in,
Hey, James and Nick,
I highly recommend you review season one,
episode one of the 1995 series of Action Man.
Part animation, fast live action.
I do remember that, yeah.
Yeah, okay.
No.
Were it screened today, it would be a parody,
but back then they thought it was cutting edge.
It was terrible.
I don't remember that at all.
I don't remember it being bad.
So there was a live action action man in it.
He does a short action at the start,
like a really slow 90s TV kid style action.
And then there was like a morphing section
where it would go into a car
and they'd do a real adventure
because they can just animate anything.
It doesn't have to be on a pier or whatever.
That show was...
Here's an email from Philip Prager.
I'm ready, Prags.
Hey guys, Phil here.
We know Phil.
Phil, we know.
We know Phil.
God damn it, Phil. Take him valuable time. Phil! Yeah, Prags. Hey, guys, Phil here. We know Phil. Phil, we know. We know Phil. God damn it, Phil.
Taking a valuable time.
Phil?
Yeah.
We say keep these pithy.
We know you know.
Well, he said Phil.
Look, it doesn't matter.
What do you think about Disney Plus?
Is it Phil or Philip?
Now I want to know.
He said Phil, but maybe Philip is for business purposes.
Philip, right back in.
Yes or no.
It's yes or no.
It's your name.
Just Philip.
Yeah.
Or Phil.
Phil.
Is your name Phil or Philip?
Yes or no? Yeah. Is the. Yeah. Or Phil. Phil. Is your name Phil or Philip, yes or no?
Yeah.
Is the question.
Like the screwdriver.
What would you think about Disney Plus doing a Bandersnatch-style Marvel show?
Maybe Deadpool or The Punisher.
That would work for those particular characters.
In particular, Deadpool.
Deadpool, yeah, right.
Like your universe breaking.
Or like a Spider-Ham or someone weird like that.
Yeah, right, right, right.
Somebody fourth wall breaking.
Yeah.
I mean, not necessarily.
I mean, I guess it would probably operate smoother if it was some kind of, like, character that operates in that kind of maybe fourth wall breaking gray area.
Because it couldn't break the timeline of the universe.
No, but I also think you could just go.
It could be like a – because they used to be Marvel Choose Your Own Adventure books.
They weren't Choose Your Own Adventure branded,
but they were Marvel.
I remember.
Was that a brand?
Choose Your Own Adventure.
Like a particular brand?
Yeah.
Really?
Yeah, Choose Your Own Adventure.
They were a brand of books.
I will choose my own adventure.
I'll read a better book about that.
If only you'd thought of that 20 years ago.
That's just come to you now.
Somebody was like, why don't you read this Choose Your Own Adventure book 20 years ago?'s just come to you now somebody was like why don't you read this
choose your own adventure book 20 years ago and you're like okay and then you've just snapped
awake now maybe i'll choose the route a bit oh they're gone they're gone and they're dead
they're gone and i'm 35 how did that happen um but i think you know i think you can do it with
any character you could do it with dr strange but i think you could just do it if you just i guess you could do it it's a side story yeah i guess you could do it with any character. You could do it with Doctor Strange, but I think you could just do it if you just...
It's a side story.
Yeah, I guess you could do it as a time loop.
But I think you could just also do it as get to the good ending.
I think they'd be more inclined to do it as an animated thing.
Yeah, right.
Because I remember very specifically
there was a Doctor Strange Choose Your Own Adventure style book.
And it was like, there's some bank robbers.
Do you want to use this spell, this spell, or this spell? And you're like, they all sound similar. I'll use this one. And it was like there's some bank robbers do you want to use this spell this spell or this spell and you're like they all sound similar i'll use this one
and it's like you're dead how were i how was i i hated that yeah i thought that was gonna work
there's no clue i thought the winds of what tomb were gonna work but it just flung me into a cement
mixer you know that wouldn't even happen to Doctor Strange. Right? You should have chosen to read a different book.
Nice job.
Got him.
Got him.
Let's find who wrote those books and we'll email them.
Maybe I'll choose to read a different book.
Guys, would you choose to read a different book?
Yes or no?
From Kieran M. Bennett.
Do you think we could see a Terminator V Robocop movie
with the trends of Versus coming back with Godzilla V King Kong?
Robocop's back. Yeah, that's true. The original Robocop movie with the trends of Versus coming back with Godzilla V King Kong. Robocop's back.
Yeah, that's true.
The original Robocop.
Yeah.
I can't Google it
because I switch off the internet in here
when I'm not in here.
Okay.
Because of Drake's mother.
And you didn't switch it back on.
Again, I didn't switch it on.
I don't know if they're owned
by the same company.
I don't think that they are.
Okay.
Do you know?
Well, I could look it up on my phone,
but that would take a long time.
I agree with you on that.
Look, anything's possible. Yeah. You know know if they're two floundering franchises i wouldn't
be surprised if even if they were two different companies that they'd go maybe the people will
like this people will watch this yeah yeah i think people would do you think they would tie them
together narratively in previous movies or do you think they'd just be like you know what's robocop
and the terminator i think they're clunking together i think they're and then they'll be
like one of them's linked to Cyberdyne systems or whatever.
One of the Robocops, he got the Terminator chip.
And he's eating it, like a potato chip.
He doesn't know he's a robot.
The premise of the original Robocop versus the Terminator was that in that particular universe,
the Terminator artificial, the SkyNet artificial intelligence was based on Robocop's mental engrams, I guess.
So the fact that he was combined with a computer made it easy to create Skynet.
Yeah, like make an eye.
And so a resistance fighter comes back in time to kill him.
Yeah.
But then Skynet sends a whole bunch of robots and then they plug Robocop into the Skynet.
And they start it off a little bit early.
So that could be fun.
Yeah, I like that.
Yeah.
And I think enough people are aware of,
you just go, it's the Robocop 80s future
and here comes the Terminators.
You don't need any more context.
And that's what they're doing in the new one as well,
the new movie.
They're like, it's the Robocop 80s future,
but it's like 20 years on or whatever.
Yeah, right.
Or 30 or whatever the 80s was.
I don't fucking know.
Maybe you should have a different decade maybe i should maybe we should live in a different decade we do you say to
somebody i should have said that years ago you should have said it then
got it you guys i know is it the only thing you want to do if your time travelers make fun of
everybody how everybody dresses? Probably.
And haircuts?
No, I think what I would do...
You guys look ridiculous.
That would be fun, actually.
That'd be...
Look how you look.
Look at this BuzzFeed article and how dumb you look now, you idiots.
Yes, I've got a giant beard.
And what would happen is I'd be like, you idiots,
and then somebody would time travel from our future to me.
Yeah, definitely. And they'd be like, look at you and your beard. And I'd be like, you idiots. And then somebody would time travel from our future to me.
And they'd be like, look at you and your beard.
And I'd be like, I thought I looked fine.
Nobody looks fine.
Yeah.
Whatever you look like now, people are going to laugh at you in 50 years.
That's true, yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
But things come around, you know.
That's true.
I was out the other night and there was a lot of young people there.
And I'm like, the fade's gone.
The fade has gone.
It's faded out.
Yeah, right. Which is good because I'm like, thank God. gone. The fade has gone. It's faded out. Yeah, right.
Which is good because I'm like, thank God.
Yeah.
It stopped getting a fade.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Anything else?
This is from Sean Wallace.
This is kind of fun.
Okay, Sean Wallace.
A few years back when I was in middle school, there was a teacher at my school who always
used to yell at me in the halls for running and swearing and such.
Running and swearing?
Just the most straight-laced, button-up, pencil-pushing English teacher you can imagine.
Yeah.
He was a nice guy, a good teacher, but we never expected what I found out at the end of the year.
What turn is this going to take?
It turns out this teacher wrote and recorded the music
for both Mortal Kombat movies.
Oh, my goodness.
That's pretty good, right?
Did he do the theme?
Yeah.
The da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da.
Actually, I don't know.
Because that's the only one that matters.
Yeah, right?
I feel.
I don't know.
Let's find out.
Let's look it up later.
Because if he didn't do it,
maybe he should have written a better Mortal Kombat. Maybe write a better Mortal Kombat theme, buddy. It I feel. I don't know. Let's find out. Let's look it up later. Because if he didn't do it, maybe he should have written a better Mortal Kombat.
Maybe write a better Mortal Kombat theme, buddy.
To be you don't know the teacher's name.
No.
Okay.
Doesn't have it here.
I mean, we can Google it.
I can't.
No, I don't do it.
Yeah.
That's fine.
Oh, wow.
So he's a good dude.
Yeah.
Then maybe you shouldn't run and swear so much.
Yeah, right?
Maybe a teacher would like that, though, because he's from the world of Mortal Kombat.
Exactly.
There is a lot of things, though, as a teacher where kids do.
And I'm like, don't do this.
And they're like, why not?
And I'm like, I don't fucking know.
I don't make the rules.
I just have to do it, all right?
So don't just do it.
And then I don't have to bust your balls about it.
Don't knife fight.
No, I don't know why.
Because I remember one school, they're like, girls can't wear clear nail polish.
I'm like, I don't care.
Do I have to enforce this? They're like, nail polish. I'm like, I don't care. Do I have to enforce this?
They're like, yes.
And I'm like, well, I will.
But then I didn't.
What?
Also, how could you know?
Because it was clear.
I don't know.
Exactly.
It's clear.
I don't know.
What are they sniffing it or something?
They might be sniffing it.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So anyway, most of the time I'd say your teacher probably doesn't care.
Nah, that's not true.
Actually, a lot of teachers do deeply care about that stuff.
They care too much.
I was just a bad teacher. That's why they're in their teaching game, you know? That's right. Yeah. probably doesn't care. Nah, that's not true. Actually, a lot of teachers do deeply care about that stuff. They care too much.
I was just a bad teacher.
That's why they're in their teaching game, you know?
That's right, yeah.
All right.
Anything else?
Nah, that'll do it.
Then let's bring this show
to a show collusion.
Oh, let's bring it
to a show collusion.
Very good.
Thanks, everybody, for listening.
You didn't have to say that,
but I appreciate it.
Yes.

A microphone stand.
She said she'd be here by now with microphone stands as well.
She did, didn't she?
You know what she's doing?
She's sitting in the car.
She does that.
She gets home, and I think it's because she can't face her family.
I'll be honest.
Do you ever go out there?
And she's on the phone answering emails.
Do you ever go out there, and you can't hear her because all the windows are up,
but it looks like she's screaming?
Do you ever see that?
Do you ever see that, James?
Yeah, I mean, I thought she was singing.
She's probably singing, yeah.
Passionately and sadly.
Yeah, she's probably singing and crying.
Sing, cry, yeah.
She's singing, crying.
Where were we up to?
Oh, yeah, Chuck in a mug.

And we appreciate it.
Live on stage.

That's my favourite T-shirt because it's my face.
