Starting point is 00:00:00 As women, our life stages come with unique risk factors, like high blood pressure developed during pregnancy, which can put us two times more at risk of heart disease or stroke. Know your risks. Visit heartandstroke.ca. FX's The Veil explores the surprising and fraught relationship between two women who play a deadly game of truth and lies on the road from Istanbul to Paris and London. One woman has a secret. The other, a mission to reveal it before thousands of lives are lost. FX's The Veil, starring Elizabeth Moss, is now streaming on Disney+. Welcome back everybody to another episode of the Weekly Planet where we talk movies, head comics and TV shows. My name is James, also known as Mr. Sunday and with me as always, that's my co-host Nick
Starting point is 00:01:01 Mason over there. James, we're laughing already. We're laughing because I started talking and realised I hadn't recorded. And that's always funny. It was. It's always funny when we catch it early. If we catch it later. It's very depressing.
Starting point is 00:01:13 The later the night is also. You're not wrong, Mason. It feels late, but it's not that late, is it? No. And it's certainly not late enough for Red Hot Comic Book and Movie News. That's very true. Et cetera and so forth. You might say it's the Red Hot Comic Book and Movie News hour. Some would say that, yeah. Ding dong.. That's very true. Et cetera and so forth. You might say it's the red hot comic book movie news hour.
Starting point is 00:01:26 Some would say that, yeah. Ding dong. Yeah, that's true. Hey, man, do you want to know what we're talking about this week? Yes. Great. So does everyone else. I'll tell you.
Starting point is 00:01:33 Okay, great. And if anyone else wants to listen, they can listen. Okay. Yeah. Would you be upset, though, if it was just me? No, that's fine. What if I'm only half listening? That's fine.
Starting point is 00:01:43 Okay, what if I'm like buying stuff on the internet? That's fine. That's fine. What if I'm only half listening? That's fine. Okay, what if I'm like buying stuff on the internet? That's fine. That's fine. What if I'm buying stuff on the internet on my phone and also every sentence you say I go yawn, boring, not as exciting as browsing for Nikes. It just sounds like you're looking for a breaking point. That's what's happening here.
Starting point is 00:02:00 It is, yeah. I'm poking. I'm poking and looking for weaknesses. No, it's fine. You can do whatever you want, Mason. No, what I'm looking at here, I'm not actually looking at that. I'm looking at my one bit of news and I'm praying that you do not all. See, the thing about, for people who don't know, James sources the news and I also attempt to provide one bit of news. But the thing is that your news is like the sort of very mainstream stuff. So by necessity, my one bit of news has to be a bit off the beaten track.
Starting point is 00:02:28 That's true. That's right. And also, a lot of the time I have to provide more than one bit of news because sometimes you'll just cover my one bit of news. That's true. And I'm just like, ah. Was it the Munsters trailer this week? No, it wasn't the Munsters trailer,
Starting point is 00:02:37 but I'm excited to talk about the Munsters trailer. Okay, we're going to get into all this, Mason. Collings, of course, who edits this, puts time codes below. We're going to talk about the boy spin-off. New trailers. Joe and Anthony Russo're going to talk about the boy spin-off. New trailers. Joe and Anthony Russo have things to say about the cinematic experience. Joe and Anthony Russo are all over the place because the grey man is coming in.
Starting point is 00:02:53 Yeah, let's do those interviews again where they sit and they're like, what happened at the end of Endgame? Well. Reviews the grey man are in and they are not positive. They are middling. Well, yeah, we'll talk about it. Wakanda Forever news as well. We're going to talk about some leaked Doctor Doom concept art,
Starting point is 00:03:13 probably also from Wakanda Forever. Rumours of a Fantastic Four director. And then we thought, leading up, because Comic-Con is next week and we're officially halfway-ish through Phase 4, we're about to find out a whole lot of new stuff next week. We're going to go through every Phase 4 thing as of so far. Marvel's Phase 4 specifically, not Phase 4 of our lives. No, which is we could be in that now, right?
Starting point is 00:03:34 Yeah, who's to say? Depending on what happens in the future. Phase 4, openly weeping. That's what Phase 4 is mostly. That's right. And what's interesting about Phase 4 is because there's a little graphic we're going to talk about up top, it's a lot already, isn't it? It is a lot.
Starting point is 00:03:47 Yeah. And, you know, as we mentioned off air, Kevin Feige recently said something along the lines of, you know, now that phase four is approaching, you know, the end, you can all see where it's going. You've figured it out, right? The canny-eyed will know where it's exactly where it's going. Tell me what you think it is.
Starting point is 00:04:01 Right. And so we're going to attempt to ascertain what that is. Yeah, exactly. Because I've got no clue, honestly. We'll figure it out. We'll fix something. Right, and so we're going to attempt to ascertain what that is. Yeah, exactly. Because I've got no clue, honestly. We'll figure it out. We'll fix something. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So, Mason, you might have heard Du Bois is getting another spin-off.
Starting point is 00:04:12 It is about a group of college students. Yes, and now it's got a name, right? Superhero, that's right. Superhero High School. Not what it's called. College School. That's not what it's about. Yes.
Starting point is 00:04:21 No, that's what it's about. Yes. But that's not what it's called. No. The cast told everybody one of them is Patrick Schwarzen's about. Yes. No, that's what it's about. Yes. But that's not what it's called. No. The cast told everybody. One of them is Patrick Schwarzenegger. Yes. And other people I don't recognise.
Starting point is 00:04:31 The only reason I recognised him is because he said his name. He said his name. Yeah. And I was like, oh, not that many Schwarzeneggers in Hollywood, eh? No, he's Arnold's son who doesn't look that much like him as opposed to his other son, which he had with his maid, who looks exactly like him. Oh, yeah, I've seen that guy also, yeah. Yeah, so do you remember the name?
Starting point is 00:04:49 No, it's something V. It's Gen V. Gen V, there we go. That feels like an early 2000s show, like a Dark Angel. Oh, that. I meant like a Dark Angel or a Kyle XY, whatever that kept. We talked about that recently. And by that I mean I know that he doesn't have a belly button.
Starting point is 00:05:06 That's all we know. About that show. So there's no date as of yet. Probably this year? No. Is it? Or early next year maybe. Yeah, but the cast did that sort of little video,
Starting point is 00:05:19 that montage video where they're like, and there's going to be violence and there's going to be blood and gore and there's going to be romance. It's sick as heck. You're going to be like, there's going to be blood and gore and there's going to be romance. It's sick as heck. You're going to be like, this is the boys I love. Is this a boys tipping point? Is this too many of the boys going on? No, I don't think so.
Starting point is 00:05:31 Not yet, no. When are we going to hear that, though? Phase four. Yeah. Which is in season four, by the way. I think we're still in season, we're still in phase one. Yes, that's right. That's your dog going insane.
Starting point is 00:05:43 All right. Against the, trying to get out or in? In, I think. God damn it. Oh, that's right. That's your dog going insane. Trying to get out or in? In, I think. God damn it. Oh, here she comes. Oh, you're so cold. And then she runs off again. No, wait, she's back. It's dog time, everybody. Sure is.
Starting point is 00:05:58 Alright, dog time's over. Yeah, then she just leaves. She wants five seconds of furious Pat, and then she's like, nah, that enough. Let me in, let me in, I want Pat so yeah, are you looking forward to this? I can't say that I, I think I need to see a trailer before I know what is this but you know, I like to diabolical
Starting point is 00:06:15 is this also, this is also Eric Kripke? I believe so, but how much, I don't actually, I mean he's involved but he's not like show running it, I believe as far as I'm aware let me just quickly check the quote this week from eric kripke regarding episodic television and like working on streaming and stuff like that it's like it's just tv shut up well yeah he was but he he definitely you know he he spoke about how uh and i don't have the quote here but he spoke about how he can tell when some people have started TV work in streaming as opposed
Starting point is 00:06:46 to in episodic television because they did Supernatural for years and years and years. The good years as well. Oh, interesting. And he said something like, you know, a lot of people who've come from streaming or started in streaming are like, yeah, I'm making a 10-hour movie. And he's like, well, maybe you should consider making 10 episodes
Starting point is 00:07:01 of television because then each episode would be satisfying yes you know we'd have a beginning middle and end and be satisfying on a week-to-week basis as opposed to everything happening in like the eighth episode yeah out of 10 or whatever it is yeah that's true and i guess that that can definitely be said of the boys because there is always something every week where you're like wow that was a it was a big thing that goes head exploded yeah we would say after most episodes we would say yeah you'd think that would get tiring, but it never does. It's true. The two showrunners are Tara Butters, who's worked on Reaper. Oh, she worked on Reaper.
Starting point is 00:07:30 Remember Reaper? Vaguely. I really liked Reaper. It was a guy who was the son of the devil in whatever, it was various adventures. That's true. And Michelle Faiscaz, who worked on a number of comics, including a bunch of Captain Marvel stuff, apparently.
Starting point is 00:07:42 Interesting. Don't mind that combination at all, Mason. All right. All right. Now, Mason, you're at the show. We said trailers ahoy and then a noise. And look. Chip's on.
Starting point is 00:07:53 Chip comes in, yeah. Comes into port. And then we're like, you can go now. We only needed the noise. Yeah. We don't have any cargo or payment. But we've circumnavigated the globe. We've come from the Arctic.
Starting point is 00:08:05 The men are starving. And we're like, yeah, but we just needed the sound clip. We just wanted the sound. Couldn't you put it on a recording device? No. We'd have to play it off our phone or something. So how do you even know what that is? You're from olden times. So we could talk about in terms of trailers,
Starting point is 00:08:22 there's a new Amazon Lord of the Rings trailer. I didn't see it. People are like, wow, look at this epic scope and scale, people are saying. We could talk about Jamie Foxx's vampire hunting pool cleaner movie for Netflix. Oh, yeah. I did see the trailer for that. Yeah, where he's like, I'm doing I Am Legend,
Starting point is 00:08:36 but I'm also a pool cleaner. I'm going into houses like I'm Legend. More so the book than the movie, though. We could talk about Owen Wilson is Iron Man and also Spy Kids, the movie. Did you see that? Nope. It's like an Amazon movie where he's got an Iron Man suit and then kids find his stuff and they go,
Starting point is 00:08:50 look, that's a superhero. We're like Spy Kids as well. We love this. It feels like a Disney Channel kind of movie. It's got a bit of that vibe, yeah. A little bit of, what's that one? Greatest American Hero. Yeah, but it's more like an Iron Man-y kind of situation.
Starting point is 00:09:03 He's not in a little spandex. But yeah, great work I think if they did remake that, and they've always been threatening to remake Greatest American Hero, it would be an Iron Man suit I think. You reckon? I want to go silly spandex Yeah, but I reckon
Starting point is 00:09:17 I don't think they would be willing to commit. I think absolute best case scenario they would do like modern day Man of Steel Superman suit. Like it'd be the textured, rubbery kind of suit. But what if you got, like, a dude like they did back in the day? No disrespect to this guy, but here I go. You got, like, a man with, like, a concave chest and put him in a suit like that.
Starting point is 00:09:34 Thighs rubbing together. Yeah, that's right. You know? Constantly wearing through the thighs of the suit. Yeah, something like that, you know? Yeah, but I don't think they would. I don't think they'd be willing. I mean, it was a comedy, though, right?
Starting point is 00:09:44 I know, but I'm not think they would. I don't think they'd be willing. I mean, it was a comedy, though. I know, but I'm not sure they would be willing to commit to superhero fans tuning in week in, week out to look at a man that looks like us, quite frankly. Do you think people would be like, when is he getting the suit? And they'd be like, never. This is the suit. When's he getting his suit upgrade? He doesn't.
Starting point is 00:10:02 He wears through this one. I thought you were going to say, like, if the greatest, I keep confusing with My Secret, but if they did the greatest American hero reboot these days, even though it's a show entirely based around him having wacky adventures wearing the suit, he wouldn't get the suit to like the last episode of the season. It'd just be him thinking about acquiring the suit. Or not knowing about it.
Starting point is 00:10:24 Yeah, maybe not knowing about the suit. Oh, this is cool. Credits. See you next season. It'd just be him thinking about acquiring the suit. Or not knowing about it. Yeah, maybe not knowing about the suit. He's like, oh, this is cool. Yeah. Credits. See you next season. Canceled. Canceled. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:31 Anyways, but of course what we're really going to talk about is Rob Zombie's new movie, The Monsters, which is a reboot of, I assume, I can't tell really, of the 60s series. Yeah, 50s. I honestly don't know yeah we should have done some research but i guess there seems to be uh a significant enough overlap between metal fan metal fans and horror fans that makes sense but then also via that there's been some sort of bleed through i guess because you you like horror movies and then thesters is kind of a loving homage to those. And so if you're a metal fan, you also love The Munsters
Starting point is 00:11:09 and Rob Zombie loves The Munsters. And he's gone. There's enough in this for a movie in the year 2022. I mean, people are like, this looks terrible. Everything about this looks terrible. It looks cheap and weird and like flatly lit. And I don't understand why you've done this. This is entirely intentional.
Starting point is 00:11:27 I think so, yes. Because he's made movies that look nothing like this. That don't look like this, yes. I like it at the top how he's like, Rob Zombie, you know, the director of Halloween. Which one? Not the one in the middle that everybody forgot about. Not the one, not the heritage one.
Starting point is 00:11:43 The 2007 reboot? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Not the Jamie Lee Curtis one. I haven't actually seen his version of Halloween. Unless she's in that version. No. Okay, right. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:52 So it should be from the director of none of the Jamie Lee Curtis Halloweens. Sorry. Tyler Maine is Jason, though. Okay. That's interesting. When you say Jason. The other guy. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:12:05 The Jason type. Yeah. You think he's that because there's two other seven. He's called Mickey. He's like Mickey. Mickey. Okay. That's interesting. When you say Jason. The other guy. You know what I mean? The Jason type. Yeah. You think he's nice because there's two other seven. He's called Mickey. He's like, Mickey. Mickey. Mickey. What are you doing, Mickey?
Starting point is 00:12:11 Okay. In the audition, they're like, we want a Jason type. And then Jason auditions and he doesn't get it. I'm like, damn it. They made a sequel to that as well. But again, I haven't seen it. Oh, Malcolm McDowell is Loomis. That's good casting. Agreed. Yeah. Anyway, I haven't seen it oh malcolm mcdowell is loomis that's that's good casting agreed yeah anyway i haven't seen it but so yeah so what is the must is you want to explain
Starting point is 00:12:30 to people like what it is not really i don't think i understand it's the adams family but they're like a collection of classic horror movie monsters that live together and who came first the adams family came first i was gonna ask you because i thought you knew that but i don't know i think maybe that there was an adams family comic strip before there was an Addams Family TV series. Okay, right. But Addams Family is the one I think that people remember more because it had the movies. But I also think that we are maybe biased.
Starting point is 00:12:53 I think Australia got more Addams Family content than it did Munsters content. We did get both. Yes, that's probably true. But I think we fondly remember the Addams Family because it was on like every day, like after school or something, and Americans I think are more inclined to remember fondly the monsters okay right it was also it was also i think because they weren't black and white originally and then there was like a fairly modern
Starting point is 00:13:13 day tv version that was in color like a present it was called the monsters today maybe the monsters now whoa okay so this is interesting uh the uh the Addams Family was released in 1964. The Munsters was released in 1964. The Addams Family started. When Uncle Fester farted. Et cetera. This is so boring. I can't believe I set you up for that.
Starting point is 00:13:40 Intentionally. Yeah, right, right, right. I can't believe you set me up intentionally. Yes. Okay. On September 18th, right, right. That was when we started. I can't believe you set me up intentionally. Yes. Okay. On September 18th, 1964. Okay. The Munsters started on September 24th, 1964.
Starting point is 00:13:52 Wow. So the Addams Family pipped them by like a week. Yeah. Wow. Yeah, there you go. Parallel thought? Maybe. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:13:58 No, it must have been. It must have been. I reckon it was okay because there would have been tons of monster movies at the movies. Yeah. You would imagine. And then the creators of the Munsters went, let's do the classic monsters because they're out of copyright. And I imagine the creators of the Addams Family went,
Starting point is 00:14:13 oh, well, there's this Addams Family thing. You could do that as a little twist on the genre. It also seems as if, yeah, the monsters started in 1943 as a series of cartoons. The monsters did? The monsters did or the Addams Family? The Munsters. When did the Addams Family start?
Starting point is 00:14:27 I think when the series started, I believe. Oh. I feel like there were like maybe even single panel comics of the Addams Family. I'll quickly look it up. But I like the Addams Family more, if I may. Yeah, me too. Actually, yeah. So, no, they started in 1938 as a comic book in the New Yorker.
Starting point is 00:14:44 So, yeah, you are absolutely right. Wow. Yeah. I don't know. I just think like it's – I think like Morticia and Gomez are more – I feel like they're a more interesting couple. Yeah, I agree. Than whoever the couple is in the other one.
Starting point is 00:14:57 It's Herman who's a Frankenstein. Yep. And Lily who's a vampire, Elvira-type vampire lady. With a big lightning arrow. Yeah, I think so. Lady Frankenstein? Maybe she's a Lady Frankenstein.ira-type vampire lady. With a big lightning arrow. Yeah, I think so. Lady Frankenstein? Maybe she's a Lady Frankenstein. That's great.
Starting point is 00:15:08 Anyways, I won't watch this. Will I? Absolutely not. Let's talk about something else. Is there anybody famous in it? Is the Herman Munster somebody? Who knows, Mason? Maybe we should have researched this thing we don't care about.
Starting point is 00:15:19 That's true. Why start now? You're right. Well, I do research. I research. No, I know you do. I just didn't think we'd get stuck on this for so long. I thought we'd go, ha, this looks bad.
Starting point is 00:15:27 Why did he do this? Next. Anyways, Mason. Why did he do it, though? I don't know. I don't know. I think he just loves the monsters. I think that's.
Starting point is 00:15:35 Yeah. Yes, he does. And now he's in a position where he can do his own version of the monsters. I think if it was black and white, people would have a different opinion of it. Yeah. Because it wouldn't look so, people would have a different opinion of it. Yeah. Because it wouldn't look so, like, garish and flat. I mean, it wouldn't shock me at all, though, if – remember we talked briefly. We saw some set photos.
Starting point is 00:15:53 It was Nicolas Cage as some sort of vampire. He's got an upcoming vampire movie. Oh, yeah, it's a Renfield movie. Renfield. And he looks – the coloring is quite odd because it's being filmed for black and white. It wouldn't shock me if this movie has been, like, lit and set up and being filmed for black and white. It wouldn't shock me if this movie has been like lit and set up and makeup done for black and white and like there's a black and white option.
Starting point is 00:16:10 Okay. Like if you want to watch it in black and white, you can switch it. You can yell at your projectionist. Yes, yell at projectionist. We want to watch the black and white one. Is anybody in there or is that like this is all digital now? Who am I talking to? Mason, the Hollywood reporter.
Starting point is 00:16:25 Oh, they're reporting? That's right. They spoke to the Russo brothers because they're out there spruiking the grey man. They're like, remember action movies that you love from a certain era. This is that. But a lot of people are like, this is crap. I don't know. I haven't seen it.
Starting point is 00:16:37 I actually wanted to watch it this week because it's in some cinemas. Yeah. And they're talking about this week. Not our cinemas? No, none of the ones. But also- It's on Netflix next week. It's on Netflix next week. And I cinemas? No, none of the ones. Oh, you know, but also. It's on Netflix next week. And I'm like, oh, do I want to pay for this average thing? And then be like, oh, no.
Starting point is 00:16:51 I have to talk about it. But I wasted time not only talking about it, but also seeing it. And you risked your life. And I risked my life. Exactly. But, yeah, so, yeah, the Russo brothers doing the rounds, mostly talking about Avengers Endgame and why they snapped certain people and so on and so forth.
Starting point is 00:17:07 They're about to leave their house because they live together, I assume. Yeah. They get up and they're wearing matching pyjamas. Yeah. And they get changed and they're outside clothes. They've got dual sinks. Yeah, yeah, that's right. They brush their teeth together.
Starting point is 00:17:18 That's right. Yeah. And then they just take a deep breath and open the door and they go outside and they paste on the big smiles and they've got T-shirts that say, ask me about Endgame on them. They're like, oh, this is our lives now. Yeah. Apparently they're talking about they want to do Secret Wars
Starting point is 00:17:33 if they do Secret Wars. Yeah, they said they'd do that, didn't they? Yeah. Which, I don't know, that makes me think that they're not doing Secret Wars or if they do, but I feel like the Russo brothers would know if they were doing Secret Wars and if they were doing Secret Wars they probably wouldn't just be going, I'd love to do Secret Wars.
Starting point is 00:17:47 I don't know. What is this? What's happening? Anyways, they were asked about filmmaking and such. And Joe Russo said, auteur filmmaking is 50 years old at this point. We grew up on that. That seems inaccurate, but all right. No, we grew up and that was in the 70s.
Starting point is 00:18:02 We were kids. We were kids, Mason. All right, yes. You know, like your 1970s, your dramas and stuff. Yes, but I think it probably predated that. No, 50 years old
Starting point is 00:18:12 at this point, Mason. Okay, all right, great. You're arguing with me. I'm not saying this. I'm repeating it. No, I'm arguing with the Russo brothers. If you could pass this along
Starting point is 00:18:17 to the Russo brothers. I will pass this on. I'll wait out in front of their house. Pretend you're going to deliver their matching newspapers and then hit them with that.
Starting point is 00:18:25 I've actually got a question about auteur filmmaking, not Avengers Endgame. Seems like a trap. But okay, young man, what are you? And then you get them and you get them in headlocks. You get them in matching headlocks. You're like, what about Secret Wars? What about it?
Starting point is 00:18:39 Ah! We were kids. It was really important to us. But we're also aware that the world needs to change, and the more that we try to prevent it from changing, the more chaos we create. I don't disagree with that. It's not anybody's place to reject the next generation's ideas.
Starting point is 00:18:53 We're in crisis right now because everyone's at war with each other. It's sad to see, as guys who grew up loving film, a thing to remember too is that it's an elitist notion to be able to go to a theatre. It's very fucking expensive. So this idea that was created that we hang on to is that it's an elitist notion to be able to go to a theatre. It's very fucking expensive. So this idea that was created that we hang on to is that the theatre is a sacred place is bullshit and it rejects the idea of allowing everyone in under the tent.
Starting point is 00:19:15 Where digital distribution is valuable, other than what I said earlier about how they push diversity, is that people can share accounts, that they can get 40 stories for the cost of one story, but having some kind of culture war about whether there's value in that or not is fucking bananas. Let me tell you, James, I didn't understand any of that. I lost the thread.
Starting point is 00:19:33 Sentence one. Actually, it was all just one sentence, wasn't it? No, no, that was full stops. Maybe I read it like that. So there's a bit in here in the middle which people have been quoting, and I think it's kind of unfair because there's a bunch of stuff around that of how the cinema is an elitist experience. Okay, because it costs a lot.
Starting point is 00:19:46 It costs money and it's like it's, you know, you can get 40 films at home by sharing a streaming service or whatever. I don't know. What do you think about that? I think you're probably right. Again, I didn't say this, Mason. No, you did.
Starting point is 00:19:58 You did. You had them in their headlocks and you're like, when you get out there, you're going to say exactly this. Now kiss. Yeah, it is expensive. It is, it's true. Especially if you're going and you buy a bunch of stuff and you've got a bunch of people with you and whatever,
Starting point is 00:20:16 then yeah, it can definitely add up. And the experience also, it's not this kind of, I don't know, it's not always like this sacred space that a lot of people say it is, depending on your theatre. People with their bloody feet up. Yeah, and all that, and people are like yelling shit and throwing food and whatnot. And the only way to avoid that really is to go with like a gold class
Starting point is 00:20:32 or an enhanced occasion or whatever, but that's even more bloody expensive. Exactly. It's like 50 bucks a ticket or whatever. So, yeah, I don't know. I think what they're also saying. Yeah, the last time I saw something in gold class, Rambo Last Blood. How was it? Bad. The gold class experience? Oh, that was nice, yeah, I don't know. I think what they're also saying. Yeah, the last time I saw something in Gold Class, Rambo Last Blood. How was it? Bad.
Starting point is 00:20:46 The Gold Class experience? Oh, that was nice, yeah. Oh, Last Blood. I was thinking of 4. I'm like, Rambo 4 is bad. No, the last one, that was bad. That was bad, yeah. I had no idea what the last one was.
Starting point is 00:20:54 It's just because I couldn't get any regular tickets. I think the last one I went to was like Kong Skull Island and it was like a screening. And it was like a Friday morning. Did you go in any little sliders? I think I went and I ordered some food but I'm like, I'm loving this Gold Class experience that I would never pay for. I used to get the gift voucher to me all the time as a teacher,
Starting point is 00:21:14 which I appreciated. But, yeah, it's kind of hard to be like, here's $60 for a movie ticket. That's true. It's a bit much. So what they're saying is they're doing this for the little people. With your Netflix account that you're sharing with your college buds. I think, though, it should and it is both.
Starting point is 00:21:32 I think that's good. Yeah. And, you know, for example, like Jurassic World Dominion is now streaming already. Yeah. Which is probably stupid because that's still making money. I don't know why they do that. But I think also, like, they're probably right. But at the same time, even though the experience of going to the movies is probably not as, you know, golden as it used to be,
Starting point is 00:21:50 it is. Was it though? Well, I think, yeah, I think probably. But I think the opportunity, like if it's on any, everything that is on streaming, it makes you appreciate everything a little bit less. Yes. I think when you can just go.
Starting point is 00:22:01 It's like having a hard drive full of movies that you never watch. Yeah, and it's like, well, okay, maybe the gray man is coming out and maybe it is good or bad or what have you but like you switch it on and you're like i'm not enjoying this first five minutes i'm gonna switch it off and find something else i'm gonna watch uh big bang theory bloopers on youtube or whatever and and you don't you know it's funnier than the actual show but but and you're on your phone and etc and it's not not as – at least I think for me the benefit of the movies these days is I've paid my money and I've got to lock in and watch this movie. I completely agree with that, yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:35 And then I'm probably going to have a better experience because I'm like I'm putting away all the distractions and I'm focusing and I'm counting down how much I paid for this movie. Yeah. When I saw, what was it, Tenet, my experience of it, because as Christopher Nolan wanted, I held my phone up and I watched Big Bang Bloopers. Sure, yeah. Like screen in screen. Yeah, terrific. Nice.
Starting point is 00:22:58 And it was wonderful. It was a really good experience because, you know, one of them is kind of like quite a dry, like, you know, methodical experience where you've really got to pay attention and the other one's just people sleeping. Now that's Bazinga. That's how we do it, James. It certainly is, Mason. Hey, speaking of Marvel. Yeah, well, you've got your one bit of news.
Starting point is 00:23:18 I've got my one bit of news. Well, this is from The Direct. Yeah. Specifically, it's from the writer of Multiverse of Madness, Michael Waldron. This is a little bit of deleted stuff from the MCU, Earth 838, which is the – Oh, I've got this information.
Starting point is 00:23:31 It's the red – it's the universe where red means go and green means stop. It's a police state. We didn't really – that didn't really – Because of the Illuminati, I assume. Yeah, there was an element – I mean, there was certainly a weird – there was certainly a very weird element to that universe, but it was never merely made explicit.
Starting point is 00:23:48 But of course, in that movie there, when Doctor Strange and America arrive in that world, they go past a place called Memory Lane and you look around and you see a memory that you had. And apparently in the original script, and there's like some additional footage of this, the premise of it, it's like a minority report situation where you see a memory of something you did that was bad or illegal
Starting point is 00:24:08 and then you go and you admit to it to the authorities and then they presumably kill you. What if you don't want to go down a memory lane? Oh, great. It's probably on the way to work or something. Yeah, maybe they shove you. You come out of the subway down memory lane, I guess. That's interesting.
Starting point is 00:24:21 Well, I do have some information about that, which I want to talk about later. But the whole Illuminati did feel very… Authoritarian. They did. It's the big stone structures and shit. Fuck it, I'll do it now. I was going to talk about it later.
Starting point is 00:24:31 Okay, great. So, yeah, so Empire spoke to Marvel studio producer Richard Palmer. He said the way this universe works is… Did they speak to his bloody five daughters? That's great, Mason. That's really good. Ultron, so in this universe, Ultron worked in Age of Ultron. So everybody who, you know, like Tony Stark even wanted was like,
Starting point is 00:24:51 well, I'm retiring. This is what this is for. It's to shield the Earth from threat, so I'm out. And then as a result of that, the Illuminati then rose to power behind the scenes. It's interesting that, yeah, so all of those people who were mushed were bad anyway. Yeah, it seems that yeah, so all of those people who were mushed were bad anyway. Yeah, it seems that way, doesn't it?
Starting point is 00:25:08 Good. It felt good watching it. Yeah, that's right. You know, just watching them get torn through. I also saw some complaints of like why would Wanda, you know, she seems underpowered in this, why wouldn't she just kill them all immediately? But it's also because like it's not her body, you know, it's like.
Starting point is 00:25:23 That's true. She's puppeting somebody from a different dimension, so you're a bit restricted. That's true. By all of that. And also, like, maybe we talk about this in the review, but the Illuminati, they don't think she is the Scarlet Witch. They just think she's Wanda Maximoff from that universe,
Starting point is 00:25:37 who at that point can just, like, do a little bit of telekinesis or whatever. So they're like, this will be over quickly. Yeah. And it was. And wasn't it also they like lobotomized her, like Professor X did something to her as well, I believe. Yeah, maybe. Anyways, Wakanda Forever News Mason,
Starting point is 00:25:52 which hopefully we'll be getting to look at next week. Rotten Tomatoes, Jackie Coley said, reported that Daniel Kaluuya, who plays, he's like, you know, he's like Black Panther's best mate. He's like, we're mates. He's not in the sequel due to shooting Nope, which sucks. He's great. And I just think that would have been good. It's like give that guy more things to do in the universe.
Starting point is 00:26:15 Sure, yeah. Now he's not doing any of that for now. So there you go. But speaking of, and this is a bit of a spoiler, I guess, if you have or haven't seen it, there's some leaked Doctor Doom concept art from Wakanda Forever, which could very well turn out to be not legit, but it seems to me there's a bunch of other sources that are saying that.
Starting point is 00:26:32 But if you are concerned that you will stumble upon it accidentally, Doom just looks like Doctor Doom. Yeah, you're going to be all right with it. If you've seen a picture of Doctor Doom. But crucially, he doesn't look like a weird metal man, like a man who's a metal mannequin that's been melted or anything. He doesn't look like the Fant-Fourstick version of Doctor Doom. The crash test dummy.
Starting point is 00:26:53 He doesn't look like. He looks more like the original version in the movie they didn't release. Yes. Which is the best looking version probably. What did he look like in the 2000s one? I can't even remember. Pretty good. Pretty solid. It's just that he was like, he had robot powers underneath. He did have robot like in the 2000s one? I can't even remember. Pretty good. Pretty solid.
Starting point is 00:27:05 It's just that he was like, he had robot powers underneath. He did have robot powers, didn't he? I don't know. Yeah. But this one looks pretty classy. He's got the green kind of costume and the mask and the hood and the brown belt with the gun and what have you. I saw a thing that was like, it's like maybe not even cast yet,
Starting point is 00:27:22 like voice-wise. Yeah, right, right, right. Because, you know, you do it on set and put whoever in it. Yeah. They're putting all of Stanley's voice lines into that AI so he can do it. Wow, that'd be great. And Wales's Mason.
Starting point is 00:27:34 That's really good. That is Wales's. So, yeah, I mean, I think also like if you look at the origins of like Black Panther and all that in the comics, they are tied to the Fantastic Four and all of that. So it makes sense that they'd roll that in, wouldn't they, Mason? Yes. And speaking of mutants and stuff, Mason.
Starting point is 00:27:52 Go on. We've got Collings edited together our Ms. Marvel recap. That's true. If you want us to hear us talk about that series in depth. It's on the YouTube. You can check it out right now. You can go over and go click, click, click. Oh, hello, video.
Starting point is 00:28:05 Nice to see you. Mason, more news. Go on. Fantastic Four news. Okay. It was a bunch of rumors going around this week that Marvel, eyeing Steven Spielberg to, I was going to say to review, to direct Fantastic Four.
Starting point is 00:28:20 Now, Steven, with a number of auteur cinema auteurs. Yes. Look, a number of auteur filmmakers have decided to weigh in on Marvel. We're just wondering if you'd like to review some of our movies, Stephen. I'm just wondering. Scorsese had a crack and it went really well for him. I don't know if you heard. Do you want to tell us what you thought about Thor, Love and Thunder, Stephen?
Starting point is 00:28:39 Do you want to give that a crack? I think he'd think it was fun, Mason. So this rumor swirling is suggesting that he might be directing the upcoming Fantastic Four, which had a director and lost a director. John Watts, yeah. He did some Spider-Man movie. So this is via Vulture's Mike Sampson who says later, Marvel did reach out to Spielberg's team to gauge interest
Starting point is 00:29:01 in directing Fantastic Four, but that's as far as discussions went. Presumably he has no interest. I mean, yeah, why would he? And he's busy. He's busy. He's doing that other thing. He's doing another thing. He's doing another thing that sounds a bit like a superhero movie.
Starting point is 00:29:14 Is he? Yeah. That's a fable man or something. No idea what you're talking about. Okay, it doesn't matter. I'll look it up. Please, if you could. Mason, I wish you brought a one bit of news,
Starting point is 00:29:22 which was the thing I didn't know. Oh, I've got another bit of news. Okay, two bits of news. Here's one bit of news. If we the thing I didn't know. Oh, I've got another bit of news. Okay, two bit of news. Here's one bit of news. If we're deep in the Marvel news. Yeah. There's an MC. The Fable Man, you're absolutely right.
Starting point is 00:29:30 There we go, yeah, yeah. Fiction all account of his own childhood. Oh. There you go. Not as exciting as I thought. I agree. Here's a rumor regarding the Disney Plus series Ironheart. The villain might be the Hood, who is a mystical villain.
Starting point is 00:29:45 He began his first appearance was in a Marvel Max comic book series, Marvel Max being the rude and crude imprint of Marvel. It doesn't exist anymore. Butts. Butts and swearing and drugs and violence and so forth. But he started out as a small-time criminal who discovered a kind of cloak and hood situation that gave him various mystical powers as provided by some sort of demon, which was later retconned
Starting point is 00:30:10 to be Dormammu, I think. So that would, I mean, we've got Dormammu in this universe. Yes, exactly. I mean, I think it would be nice to see a technologically based hero go up against a magic based hero. I completely agree. I don't think Ironheart. Which is what original Iron Man sort of is with the ten rings and whatever.
Starting point is 00:30:27 Oh, yeah, in a way, sure. I mean, it's technology and whatever. Yeah. Yeah. But, yeah, I don't think Ironheart and the Hood have ever interacted in the comic books like ever, ever. Oh, okay. Right.
Starting point is 00:30:36 But I would like to see that magic versus, or they might just go, oh, he's a disgruntled Stark employee. Do you think they'll do that? They might do that with Doctor Doom also. There was also some concept art that was leaked with her or an image of her from – because she's in Wakanda Forever. Yeah, it looks very – that one image we've got looks like a weird Netflix thumbnail or something.
Starting point is 00:30:57 It looks like a mobile game thumbnail. But it also – I think it's kind of got shades of like the first Iron Man suit, you know, that kind of like slapdash kind of. Yeah, it does look like that. Yeah, that's right. Also, it's like a tiny image on a, you know. That's what I'm saying. A blurry image and whatever.
Starting point is 00:31:12 Oh, you don't like it? No, I didn't mind it. He loves it, everybody. I didn't. I did not. Because I saw that image and I did not connect it to Iron Heart. But I had to think about it. Okay, if that is anybody.
Starting point is 00:31:21 I'm just losing track of what's in what at this point, Mason. And speaking of. But anyway, the Hood in his original series, he sort of crossed paths with all like Spider-Man's villains, like Electro and the Shocker and all that, except they're all like F this and F that. F'n and Jeff'n. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:31:37 That's rude. But then he sort of became a high-level crime boss and et cetera. So that could be fun. I don't know. Cool, that does sound good. All right. I can't wait to see him F'n and Jeff'n on the way to the small screen all over the small screen mason that's right fx is the veil explores the surprising and fraught relationship between two women who play a deadly
Starting point is 00:31:58 game of truth and lies on the road from istanbul to paris and l London. One woman has a secret, the other a mission to reveal it before thousands of lives are lost. Starting point is 00:33:09 James, I'll describe it to you. Yep. There's an image of Thor. Yep. He's raising a weapon aloft. I assume it's Stormbreaker. It is, mate. His mystical axe. But you can't see the top of it, so it could be really anything.
Starting point is 00:33:16 It could just be a stick. It could be an oar. Yep. It could be an oar, yeah. Maybe they're on a boat or something. Yep. And then next to him and a little bit below is Jane Foster Thor. None of this is the relevant information.
Starting point is 00:33:26 I don't know. I don't know, James. And then there's the IGN logo in the top right corner, which I think that's their logo. And then there's a title that says MCU Runtimes by Phase. You're forgetting that there's a moon or planet behind them. There is some kind of moon or planet, isn't there? Mm-hmm.
Starting point is 00:33:41 Yeah, that is good stuff. Anyways. And I think they're standing on some rocks, like a rocky outcropping or something. It doesn't look like they're flying or floating. No, no, unless the rock is also flying or floating, possibly through space. Gotcha, good, good. Anyway, it says phase one, six films, 12.4 hours. Yep.
Starting point is 00:33:55 Phase two, six films, 12.7 hours. Phase three, 11 films, 24.9 hours. That's interesting because the first two phases are a bit over 12 hours each, right? And then phase three with 11 films, that's double that. That's an increase. Yeah. That's an increase. Phase four, so far, six films, seven shows, 49.5 hours.
Starting point is 00:34:16 And that particular, then there's like a graphic there. Yeah. And that, that, that. It's double the length. It's double the length, yes. And we are about halfway halfway maybe a tiny bit over uh as of so far i thought we were right towards the end i thought we were entering a new phase mason but so all the stuff that has been announced thus far all the stuff that was on that you know
Starting point is 00:34:35 we've got armor wars and we've got a lot is that still phase four yeah okay great yeah apparently we'll talk about that some upcoming stuff as well so what we're going to do we're going to go through each of these in kind of the order that they were released. We're going to determine, I guess, a couple of things, Mason, whatever we think of that particular thing, how it's maybe held up since it came out, and what maybe in the wider scheme of things does this mean anything. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:57 Can we connect to these dots and strings? Can we connect them with an overarching plot? I reckon we could connect them with previous movies and be like, that's a character from a previous movie. Yeah, bro. Easy done. Easy done it. Easy done it, yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:14 So do you want me to start things, Mason? Yes. By saying in January of 2021 we got, by the way, a bunch of this was also delayed, obviously, because of the pandemic, et cetera. We got the first thing to kick off Marvel Phase 4 was WandaVision. Yes. A television show.
Starting point is 00:35:31 I thought this was, especially at the time, really a bold way to kick things off where the first two episodes are black and white throwbacks with very little Marvel kind of callbacks, like an I Love Lucy bewitched kind of. The most dramatic thing that happens in the first episode is the boss who comes over for dinner chokes on a bit of chicken or whatever it is. Yes, that's right.
Starting point is 00:35:51 Not a metaphor. And, yeah, and then she yells at them about where they're from or whatever. Yes. And then by the time you hit, I think, episode three, it starts to, like, unravel in terms of what is actually going on. But I thought that was, like, a really bizarre and unusual way to kind of open up the series, open up this new phase.
Starting point is 00:36:09 But I don't think this kind of this reaching out and trying new things, it doesn't always seem to kind of, it does not in everything. No, that's true. Which I guess also makes sense because you kind of give, you got to give a bunch of stuff that, you know, people are used to and also trying new things at the same time. There's like a tightrope to walk. But I still think that series, which admittedly I haven't gone back to, I think it was really
Starting point is 00:36:33 great. Would you say it slaps and it rocks? No, I don't use language like that, Mason. I'm a normal person. Okay. Would you say it was busting? Yes, I would. Yes.
Starting point is 00:36:41 That's what I thought, yeah. Yeah, what about you? I mean, it kind of does rush things up at the end and it makes the villain go, although he's not even the villain, he's the guy at S.H.I.E.L.D., like, I'm going to shoot kids. We're trying to shoot something else. Look, honestly, as we go forward through this, I think the through line we are going to discover is that...
Starting point is 00:36:59 Kat Dennings is in some of them. She is certainly in some of them, but I think that what we're going to discover is that there are many villains who think they're doing the right thing and at some point are doing the right thing to such a degree that the writers have to go, and they shoot kids. Because otherwise you'd empathize with them more than you do the heroes. We can't have that, actually. Yeah, no, you're not wrong.
Starting point is 00:37:22 But this guy, ultimately he just wants to use the Vision as a weapon, and that's rude. That is rude. Quite frankly. That was also why he was built in the first place, because Ultron, anyway. You don't know that for sure. That's what Ultron was going to do.
Starting point is 00:37:35 I reckon he was going to go into the Vision body, and he was going to have a good time nap. No, we saw him in What If. He got in it, and then he did a bunch of terrible interdimensional things. Oh, we've seen the Vision body when he did that. Yeah, remember he went into... Well, that's that version. Maybe I reckon this one was just going to be like, now off to bed.
Starting point is 00:37:52 These crisp sheets, I can really feel them on this new body that I have. Yeah. And also, I mean, one of the things we know obviously went from this was Wanda became... Spoilers for all this, obviously. Wanda then became the villain in Multiverse of Madness. Yes. The vision is yet to resurface. That's true.
Starting point is 00:38:08 Any of the versions. The vision that was in that was a construct of Wanda's mind and died. Yes. And the other version, the real original version, the Ship of Theseus, et cetera, the white vision was the original vision but he's got none of his kind of soul or really any of his memories kind of properly intact. Do you think maybe we'll get a reintegration of the character
Starting point is 00:38:30 towards the end of this phase, do you reckon? Yes. Oh, maybe not. Who knows? I don't know if it's going to be in this phase necessarily, but we hypothesised at the time that the melding of the one that Wanda remembers in the original one, oh, they could do a time crystal. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:38:44 They could do a time crystal, exactly. In retrospect, again, I think this was a great starting point. I don't know how – I'm not sure how general or like big time Marvel fanboys like this one, but, you know, I'm a pretty big time Marvel fanboy. It's true. And I thought it was good. I thought, you know, I thought at the time, you know, this – we are all a little bit burned out on Marvel stuff and it's been going for a few years now
Starting point is 00:39:06 and this was an interesting left turn kind of thing. I also like the mystery of it. You know, like kind of what is going on and what characters showed up. It was not, you know, the reveal, even though people had figured out a bunch of this stuff of like Agatha Harkness and all of that. Yeah, see, to me that was even more so than the shield or the the sword
Starting point is 00:39:26 guy who's like i'm just gonna kill the kids the the worst part for me was just this reveal of a character and you've never it was where were the clues you know there's her name and stuff yeah but i mean it was just like but and also the you know the two camera the the two straight to camera reveal that was like i'm agatha harkarkness. All right. I liked it. You would have. I thought it was cool, Mason. Well, all right. But I also think it set people up for, and us also,
Starting point is 00:39:51 like expecting twists and stuff to be like, who's this, who's that? And it's like, it's nobody. Sure. Nobody and nothing. And your theories will not amount to anything. And then sometimes, you know, people get upset because either the thing they wanted to happen didn't happen or. Or it did and too much. Or it didn't too much. Or like. either the thing they wanted to happen didn't happen.
Starting point is 00:40:06 Or it did and too much. Or it didn't too much. Threading the needle here. It doesn't happen. And I think that's a really difficult to kind of write. I think it's pretty easy to write. Yeah, you're probably right, actually. But how I would do it, you'd want to write something that's like you want all the clues there but not enough where everybody can figure it out. And then the reveal people go, obviously it was there the whole time.
Starting point is 00:40:26 And you're right. I would write it like that. I wouldn't write it with you. I would be able to write it by myself. Oh, okay. I was kind of hoping for we would write it together as fans. No, no, no. We'll do, it's like Red Dwarf.
Starting point is 00:40:36 We'll do competing series. Okay, great. True. About the same thing. But yeah, no, I loved seeing Darcy and Jimmy Woo back. Yeah, exactly. That was fun to not just kind of say, hey, remember this, or hey, look at this guy. Like it was actually two characters we'd seen before
Starting point is 00:40:54 and they actually got some screen time and we got to see them, you know, develop from their previous incarnations, you know, which I thought was fun. I did feel rushed at the end, though. Like Darcy kind of, she crashes the truck and then disappears. Sure. And then, yeah. Well, this isn't Darcy in her truck vision, is it?
Starting point is 00:41:12 No, I know, but I think they've even, maybe the writer said it, but they had to wrap up a bunch of stuff at the end really quickly. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And they're in the sky and they're shooting lightning and so on. Hell, yeah. Which I didn't really love. But all in all, it's one of my, I think, one of the better things that they made.
Starting point is 00:41:28 Anyway. So long ago. What's the thread, Mason? Multi? Yeah, multiverse. Is there multiverse in that, though? Well, it was setting up the multiverse. So I think, if anything.
Starting point is 00:41:39 Like the Quicksilver thing? Yes. The Quicksilver thing and the. So he exists in the X-Men universe in another timeline. Yeah. But I think where this was they were hoping to go was that Wanda becomes the Scarlet Witch and then
Starting point is 00:41:53 Multiverse of Madness. Although apparently she wasn't supposed to be in Multiverse of Madness originally. She was going to be in Avengers 5 next. Oh, okay. But I guess they were like, we've got to get this Multiverse stuff going. Quicksmart. Quicksmart, yes. Next up. So I guess they were like, we've got to get this multiverse stuff going. Quick smart. Quick smart, yes. Quick smart. Next up.
Starting point is 00:42:07 So I guess, yeah, multiverse. So thus far, Secret Wars, I guess. That's what they were shooting for. I agree. Next up, and I think this will lead into something we'll talk about in a minute, Mason. In March was Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Kind of okay. I understand, sure.
Starting point is 00:42:22 It just kind of ran in a circle. Uh-huh. You know, he's like, I don't want to be Captain America. And it's like, well, you do want to be Captain America. I don't want to do it. And then he's like, I will do it. Give me that shield. I'll do it. Well, you can't do it anymore, but I want to do it.
Starting point is 00:42:34 Change my mind. Give me the shield. I'll break your arm. He doesn't get the Steve Rogers powers. I would have got the Steve Rogers powers. He could have used the serum. That's true. I mean, the first time he rolls his ankle, he's like, fuck, I should have done the Steve Rogers powers. He could have used the serum. That's true. I mean, the first time he rolls his ankle, he's like,
Starting point is 00:42:46 fuck, I should have done the Steve Rogers powers. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But what I think this one said. The first time he goes to catch the shield and it just cracks on his knuckles, he'd be like, oh, I should have got the Captain America powers. But you know what? It's probably in the suit now, the suits, you know. Yeah, and that and, like, I think it's supposed to say something about,
Starting point is 00:43:05 like, I'm a normal man and whatever. Yes. And also my power is I can fly. That's true. So he's got another power, doesn't he? Yes. But it did, like, what I mean by running in a circle, it ended where Endgame ends.
Starting point is 00:43:17 Like, you wouldn't have to say this. Yeah, that's true. Other than Wyatt Russell as US agent. Yes. Because he's going to be in Dark Avengers or Thunderbolts or something like that. So I think that's what's happened there. What do you reckon?
Starting point is 00:43:31 Yeah, no, you're absolutely right. Yeah, you couldn't because at the end of Endgame it was like Steve is all here, this shield is for you because you're Captain America now. Yeah. And then after six or eight or however many episodes it was like, I guess I'm Captain America now. Yeah. Maybe, do you think maybe it should have maybe been a US agent series?
Starting point is 00:43:50 Go on. And just leave it at that. Oh. And maybe have Bucky and Falcon in it. Well, it's too late now. It's too late now, obviously. But do you think maybe that's the direction they could have gone with it? As in we see USA.
Starting point is 00:44:04 Just say Captain America we hate. Oh, yeah, I would have watched that, sure. Yeah. Just continuously like fouling up and stuff. But I also think there would have been the complaint, and I'm sure I would have made this, that why didn't they make this a Bucky Sampleson show at the same time. Yeah, I like their camaraderie.
Starting point is 00:44:19 Yeah, exactly. All of that I liked a lot. But, again, it kind of ends where it starts. Yeah. And also it did, and, of of course it did the thing of like, these guys, the villains seem to have a good point. Whoops, they've blown up that building full of innocent people because they just decided to.
Starting point is 00:44:34 They did. And Zemo, yeah, totally. And Zemo, he puts his purple sock on and he's like, I'm doing action. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm not Daniel Brühl. I'm a stuntman for this. And look, it spawned some nice memes.
Starting point is 00:44:43 Yep. Which I think is important. It's a dancing Zemo meme. Yep. We got the meme of like he's out of line but he's right. Yep. It's a good meme. It's true.
Starting point is 00:44:52 Yeah. What did this give us, the overarching? I think it's the US agent thing. I think it's a dark. Yeah, okay, right. Because Allegra Fontaine. Yeah, she's at the end. Okay, right.
Starting point is 00:45:00 Okay, so thus far we've got probably Secret Wars. Yep. And Thunderbolts. Yep. Yeah. Well, I mean, what and Thunderbolts. Yeah. Yeah. Well, I mean, it's interesting. Isn't it, though? Like we don't necessarily have to be just everything being tunneled
Starting point is 00:45:16 into one particular avenue and be like, well, at the end it's going to be Secret Wars or whatever. I'm happy that there will be a Thunderbolts and there will be a – I agree. It doesn't have to be Secret Wars or whatever. I'm happy that there'll be a Thunderbolts and there'll be a – I agree. It doesn't have to be one thing. Yeah, you're right. Anyway, this thing points to one thing, though. What's that?
Starting point is 00:45:30 In June. Yes. By the way, there's overlap. Like, some of these end when other things start. That's true. Not this one, though. June, there was Loki, which I think is my favorite, maybe. It's pretty good.
Starting point is 00:45:40 This whole thing, maybe, potentially. Maybe. I liked the reveals of this one. It felt really kind of wild and unpredictable. And, you know, the fact that there's a fake like time council and all of that. Oh, yeah, true, yes. And he goes into the room and they're like,
Starting point is 00:45:54 hello, welcome to the time council. And it's like, okay, well, this is clearly all that's got a big scale. I like that it went to like 60s cosmic silliness and just that – A bureaucracy of it. A bureaucracy of it. The planet of vanished time travel variants. That weird energy monster that eats variants was pretty fun. They threw in the Thanos copter.
Starting point is 00:46:20 They threw in the Thanos copter. I appreciate it. There's Frog Thor. There's Frog Thor. A bunch of cool stuff in this. Now, obviously, the big thing that's come up from this, the big thing that's going to be a result of all the comings and goings is Loki season two.
Starting point is 00:46:32 I think that's where this was leading, don't you think? Yes, James. Yes. Loki season two, yes. There's a couple of things. Secret Wars again, I think, multiverse, et cetera. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And Kang, which may also be a part of Secret Wars.
Starting point is 00:46:44 Yeah. Depending on who's running the big Secret Wars. Yeah, so this season ended with this, the particular Kang we were introduced to being killed. He wasn't a Kang. He was called the Architect. Yeah, that's the one. But despite the fact that he died,
Starting point is 00:47:01 there is also an infinite number of parallel universe hymns, and one of them will probably be a proper villain. Yeah. Yeah, I mean, in terms of big cosmic events, this was certainly up there. Yeah, and I think also in terms of, like, television shows, it has the most impact on, like, a wider thing. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:47:19 Maybe, depending on what the wider thing is. And if I may, probably the biggest crushing disappointment in one of these series, I i think because the trailer did suggest that loki would become db cooper and he did but it really had no relevance on the plot it was just a one-shot joke and i was really excited for like a db cooper episode db cooper episode where like oh okay in order to you know do the oh he's stuck in the 60s in order to get back out of the 60s and, you know. Heimdall's going to be looking somewhere at a particular time and the plane's going to go there.
Starting point is 00:47:49 He could have done something like that. I mean, Heimdall was dead at that point. No, no, but it was time travel. Perfect, James. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Didn't the time travel, didn't Thor dare him to do it or something? Yes, that's how it worked, yeah. Yes, I thought Heimdall was alive.
Starting point is 00:48:01 But I would have, yeah, I would have preferred it to be like, you know, episode, you know, episode, you know, the penultimate episode or whatever and he's drifting time and how's he going to get out of this one. He's going to get out of it. And in order to do it, he has to be David Cooper. But it was unrelated and I felt a little bit. He was just in a big shopping centre at one point. He was in a big shopping centre, yeah.
Starting point is 00:48:16 But he wasn't King Loki. And Richard E. Grant was Alligator Loki. Do you know where Richard E. Grant is from? Sorry? Do you know where Richard E. Grant is from? I learned this today. Australia? No. France? Swaziland. Grant is from? I learned this today. Australia. No.
Starting point is 00:48:26 France. Swaziland. What? He's born in Swaziland. I don't believe you. Which is not called Swaziland anymore. They renamed it. Richard E. Grantville.
Starting point is 00:48:32 Yes, it's Richard E. Grantville now. Great. Terrific. I didn't know that at all. Born in Swaziland, yeah. I also thought there's a moment in it where Loki's talking to Miss Minutes. He's trying to like whap her with the newspaper. Oh, yes.
Starting point is 00:48:43 And he's like, what are you, like an AI? What is this? And she's like, oh, like you're recording? he's like, what are you, like an AI? What is this? And she's like, oh, like you're recording. She's like, you know, a bit of both or whatever. And what I think she is, and what I think Kang also is, because, you know, he's in the elevator and they're trying to kill him and he's moving. She knows everything's everything everyone's going to say at any point
Starting point is 00:48:57 in time. So she could just be a recording. Oh, yeah, right. She might not be an AI. It's just like I know exactly when people are going to say something. Because she was built at the end of time. Yeah. And she, yeah.
Starting point is 00:49:09 So, you know, we don't know, but she'll be back. After that, Mason. The first. Eswatini is what Swaziland is called now. Oh, there you go. Where is that exactly? It's at the south of Africa. The continent of Africa.
Starting point is 00:49:20 South Africa. It was the bottom. Yes. Yeah, there you go. Next up, the first movie in Phase 3. Oh, Pokemon, the first movie. That's right. Phase 4, sorry, but also a movie that should have been in, like, Phase 3.
Starting point is 00:49:31 Uh-huh. Black Widow. Yes. I liked it. Mm-hmm. It's completely irrelevant. Sure. Except for, oh, the last one was, say, Kang Secret Wars, right?
Starting point is 00:49:40 Yeah, yeah, yeah. And Kang's going to be in Ant-Man 4, 3, whatever it is. But Black Widow introduces, I guess they could put Red Guardian in the team as well and other Black Widow in the Thunderbolts. Yeah, maybe Taskmaster as well. Yeah, exactly. Or the whole family. Yeah, you're right.
Starting point is 00:49:57 Everybody except Black Widow, the original Black Widow, who's dead. Yes. But I think it's good. I, there's a. It was released at the wrong time. a it was released at the wrong time it was definitely released at the wrong time the but i mean wasn't that that was also pandemic related probably no but it was still in this phase oh yeah it's true yeah um the thing about that movie is in theory i think a lot of the action is quite exciting but in practice a lot of was not like you know the
Starting point is 00:50:21 scene where that that weird russian helicarrier is exploding and they're all tumbling out and there's a big action sequence as they're falling out of the thing, falling out of the sky, should have been more exciting than it was. Is it because there are some pretty pokey special effects at times? Yes. But again, we talked about that last week. That's not necessarily the fault of anybody working on that. But yeah, no.
Starting point is 00:50:38 I mean, I think there's other stuff in that. Like there's a moment where she fights a bunch of black widows in her room. You know, that happens multiple times. I think all like like, the Taskmaster farts. Farts for a guardian. Oh, my fond weakness. Big farts.
Starting point is 00:50:52 He's been farted on. The whole family dynamic. Yeah, that was fun. We played the mother in it. Fake mother. Retrovice. Yeah, she was great. And obviously, like, the introduction of Florence Pugh. Yeah. Pew pew. Pew pew. So, you know, I think all that's good. I think it is all good in theory.
Starting point is 00:51:09 Okay. So that's a shame, isn't it? Yeah. But again, it's two phases too late. They should have actually released this after Civil War as opposed to way too late. Yes. Thunderbolt, so I guess. Yes, absolutely.
Starting point is 00:51:22 Oh, and Allegra B. Fontaine is in that as well. Is at the end of that, yeah, yeah. She's like, do you want to do a Thunderbolt with us? I would love to do a Thunderbolt. Thank you. Let's do it. Let's have a ripper of a Thunderbolt. August was What If? Yes.
Starting point is 00:51:35 Multiverse stuff, right? Multiverse stuff. We still don't know exactly what that, it's probably Secret Wars. How do you feel about this generally? I think it started not great because it was like, what if Captain America America but Agent Carter? It's like, this is just Captain America. It's literally the same story.
Starting point is 00:51:50 And I like this character. I like the idea of this. But I hope this isn't going to be, what if Iron Man, but it's somebody else and it's just the Iron Man story. But it's not. There's a lot of really interesting episodes among it. That's true. Yeah, and we had
Starting point is 00:52:05 people some people they swore black and blue that they weren't going to cross over mason i've saved all the youtube comments so i can email their mothers yeah great uh yeah why do you think it's going to cross over stop saying that so many comments as well why do you think toby mcguire's and spider-man they haven't even confirmed it yet. Because of secrets, that's why. You idiot. Bunch of idiots. Your mother's going to be very upset. Can't believe you started an argument with an internet man, I'll say.
Starting point is 00:52:34 But multiverse stuff, though, obviously. That's what it was getting people used to. Yes. And I guess also the idea of more animation. So more animation and multiverse. What is the more animation? They're doing, there's a Spider-Man series that's coming out. Oh, I see.
Starting point is 00:52:49 Spider-Man and his mates, but he's still at school or whatever. Oh, yeah, sure, sure, sure. There's other things. I think they're doing a, I will talk about them later. There's like a zombie animated show. Oh, yeah, there is too, yeah. There's What If Season 2. They were setting up What If Season 2.
Starting point is 00:52:59 Yes. I don't think, though, if you do What If. How was the duck animation? Did I make that up? He's in it. He's in it, yeah, right. No, Kevin Smith is working on one, but I think they cancelled it. Okay.
Starting point is 00:53:08 I think that was pre-something. Pre-Clicks 3? No, no, this is more recently. Hang on. I see. Yeah, here we go. Kevin Smith discusses how the duck animated series he was working on before Hulu decided to not go forward with the show in January 2020.
Starting point is 00:53:21 Oh, yeah, yeah, right, right, right. So I think that was a consolidation of all the MCU stuff. Yes. And I think that's why MODOK got cancelled. MODOK, I was just thinking about MODOK, yeah. Probably why Hitmonkey got cancelled. Yes. Because they don't want things that exist kind of outside the MCU too far.
Starting point is 00:53:36 That's why like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and all that is over the Netflix stuff got cancelled. Again, they're bringing a bunch of that stuff back in. So, yeah. What if was, it was interesting. Not vital, but interesting. And some pretty good action in it. And remember when Ultron like lasered Thanos in half?
Starting point is 00:53:55 Yeah, it did. And I thought that was good. Good. What's going on here? I'm looking at this baby monitor. Yeah, that's good stuff. James, there's no baby on that monitor. No?
Starting point is 00:54:05 No. You're looking at a roast chicken in a bassinet. What's happened in your life, James? You don't like roast chicken? No, I do. Okay, then just forget about it then. Don't even worry about it. Next up, here's something we didn't see until November
Starting point is 00:54:20 but it came out in September. It was Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Yes. I saw this with Dave Lee. Dave Lee Down Under at a drive-through, like a few days before Eternals because I wanted to see it before Eternals. I remember that. I also wanted to see it before Eternals. Did you?
Starting point is 00:54:39 Yeah. We did that double episode on it. Oh, yeah. I think I wanted to see it because I was going to do a video on it. I can't remember. Anyway. Yeah. It's good.
Starting point is 00:54:49 It is good. But here he goes. Well, look, I think. Too many weird wolves or whatever? Yeah. Too many weird dragons? Yes. Too many ten rings?
Starting point is 00:54:58 Too many rings? No, correct number of rings. Seven rings? No, correct number of rings. Okay. For me, I think. God, what if it was just collecting the ten rings? This is what the phase rings. Okay. For me, I think. God, what if it was just collecting the ten rings? This is what the phase was.
Starting point is 00:55:08 Every movie, a different ring. It would be like the Infinity Stone. There's more of them. What's this one? Yeah, right. They all do the same thing. What if we get to the end of this and we go, oh, actually, Ms. Marvel's bracelet, that's a ring, actually.
Starting point is 00:55:21 And Captain America's shield's a ring. And other stuff's a ring, I reckon. Oh, he's back. Dog time. Dog time is on, actually. And Captain America's shield's a ring. And other stuff's a ring, I reckon. Oh, hello. Oh, he's back. Dog time. Dog time is on, everybody. This is. This is.
Starting point is 00:55:33 Two dog times in one pod? I know, right? It's crazy. It should be illegal. Which is the show that was revealed at the end that someone was a Skrull. That was Spider-Man Far From Home. No, there was a more recent one, wasn't there? Couldn't tell you.
Starting point is 00:55:46 Let me look that up. Okay. Yeah. Ali, do you remember what it was? Was it Spider-Man Far From Home? Look, what I liked about Shang-Chi, I thought the casting was good. Sarah Halley Finn, who I believe has cast every Marvel movie that's ever existed, does an incredible job of casting.
Starting point is 00:56:05 Maybe I'm wrong about this. We've got a great Shang-Chi. Yeah. We've got a great sidekick. It was weirdly nice to see Trevor Slattery again. It was nice to see Trevor. But, see, the thing about that is I found I think the – Speaking of roast chickens, he had a weird roast chicken, mate.
Starting point is 00:56:22 Well, I think the – not the downfall. I think overall it was an enjoyable movie, but I think the weird sort of mystical animals were a little much for me. Yeah. And there was that moment of like where they had to go to the mystical city and there was no way to find it, but then Travis Lattery's like, well, I've got a weird, this weird dog thing with no eyes. One shows up and speaks of Monica Rambeau
Starting point is 00:56:47 at the end of fucking WandaVision. It's like, you're under arrest. I mean, you're with us. Nice. I knew that happened. That's great. Yeah, and I thought there was a Skrull thing. I don't remember that at all.
Starting point is 00:56:56 Yeah, it happened. Secret wars. But I feel like they went, okay, well, look, it'd be fun. That should have been Trevor Slattery's job. Yeah, okay. He should have been like, you know how I, he should have been trevor slattery's job yeah okay he should have been like you know how i he should have been like i get really drunk and then i can remember how to get back there that would have been funny or something right but they were like now we're gonna do this weird this weird fluffy feathery dog situation whatever it was i didn't like it
Starting point is 00:57:18 other than that i thought it was pretty good yeah two dragons yep love them love the mandarin there he was great yeah yeah all the all stuff. Yeah, great casting in that. Yeah. Yeah. I guess there was a bit kind of like a lot of kung fu on a dragon at the end, which maybe wasn't like super compelling. But we've talked about like some of the best martial arts, some of the best action scenes in the MCU.
Starting point is 00:57:39 Because that's what you needed. In particular, the bus thing, which is, did you say that before as I was looking up Skrulls? No, I said that last week. Okay, that's what I thought. Cool. Also, I've just added Secret Wars to WandaVision. Okay, great.
Starting point is 00:57:51 I'm keeping tabs. Terrific. Well, if you want to add from Shang-Chi, some weird mystical energy. Oh, something out in the outer regions. Something out in the outer regions. It's probably linked to Ms. Marvel, maybe. Maybe. Okay, let's put a pin in that.
Starting point is 00:58:03 Mystical energy. Vague mystical energy. And everyone who's going to research it, we haven't heard anything back from them, have we? Marvel, maybe. Maybe. Okay, let's put a pin in that. Magistical energy. Vague mystical energy. And everyone who's going to research it, we haven't heard anything back from them, have we? Yeah, that's true. That being said, though, when we get to it, Captain Marvel did say she was going to explore some mystical energies and then she returned in Ms. Marvel.
Starting point is 00:58:17 She was like, what's going on? So I reckon the energy from the Ten Rings is the same energy from Ms. Marvel's bracelet. And there's another bracelet as well, I think, out there. Yes. Two bracelets. That's the one thing. We're getting ahead of ourselves.
Starting point is 00:58:30 But if there's one thing that annoyed me about the TV series Ms. Marvel is that she is a super-powered character who gets her powers from one bracelet and not two bracelets. It's infuriating. Isn't it? That it doesn't match. The whole time I'm like, why isn't there a second bracelet? It should have split.
Starting point is 00:58:46 At the very least, it should have split into two. Because there's going to be a second bracelet. It's going to be one of those things you mentioned, the Marvell Haddon. The Negabands. Negabands or whatever, where you're really good at going to a bar and making someone feel bad about themselves and then not sleeping with them. James, those are the Negging Bands, all right?
Starting point is 00:59:02 Okay. Very good. Oh, we have fun over here on this podcast. So mystical energy. Vague mystical energy, yes. So far we've got Kang, Secret Wars, Multiverse stuff, which is also Secret Wars, animation and mystical energy. And Thunderbolts.
Starting point is 00:59:18 Oh, and Thunderbolts. Sorry, yeah, I'm not doing a very good job of keeping up with this. James, you're doing the best job you've ever done. Thanks, man. No problem. That's not saying anything, though, is it? No, I worded that very carefully to imply that you generally do a bad job and you're still doing a bad job, but this is a better job.
Starting point is 00:59:32 Thank you very much, Mason. You're welcome. I appreciate your kind words. What else have we got here, Mason? Next up we've got, yeah, straight after we talked about this, is Eternals. I didn't like it. I didn't like it. I didn't think it was a very good movie. But what it did lead to was the – and this question has been raised,
Starting point is 00:59:52 I believe, on Twitter a bunch of times. It left us with an eternal – no, a celestial rather, just sticking out of the earth. Yes. And a lot of people on Twitter have said, why has nobody mentioned this? Yeah. Because of everything else.
Starting point is 01:00:05 That's why. Everybody else is tired. In my daily life, I don't mention monkey pox a lot. That's true. I've got other stuff going on, but I know it's there. You remember when there was that big swirling ocean fire? Yeah, I remember the ocean fire. I saw that once and I went, I don't give a shit.
Starting point is 01:00:24 Next thing. Yeah, same. It could be still going. I don't once and I went, I don't give a shit. Next thing. Yeah, same. It could be still going. I don't know. Yeah, that's right. It could be expanding rapidly. Yeah. Don't care.
Starting point is 01:00:30 It could be ringing your doorbell right now. Hello, it's the expanding ocean fire. I'm swirling on fire. Yeah. I'm also. Have you considered upgrading your internet plan? Exactly. It's just a terrible energy company.
Starting point is 01:00:43 So there you go, Mason. And also, whenever I see a thing online, I'm like, is this marketing? Is this just marketing? Oh, whenever there's another horrible thing. Okay. What are the lasting elements did Eternals bring to? Well, they also got dragged out into the other side of the universe
Starting point is 01:01:00 by something for some reason. That's true. They did. So is that like are they doing and they also introduced, what's his name, One Direction? Kingo. That's true. They did. So is that like, are they doing, and they also introduced, what's his name? One Direction. Kingo. Yes, they introduced Kingo.
Starting point is 01:01:09 What's his name? One Direction. Eros. Wait, maybe it's Eros? His name is Eros, but his name is also in real life. Harry Styles. Brendan Chapley. Yes.
Starting point is 01:01:17 Yeah. And I think I'm going to put in Harry Styles because that's going to be important. Okay, great. Because you don't cast him for no reason. That's true. Is that character's name Eros? Or is it something else?
Starting point is 01:01:26 Yeah, he's God of Love. He's Thanos' brother. Yeah, right, right, right. But does he have a, it doesn't matter. Starfox, I think they call him. Starfox, yes, you're right. But they probably won't call him Starfox because of the Nintendo character. No, you can call him Starfox.
Starting point is 01:01:36 Terrific. Because his name is called Starwing. So we won't be confused. They should call him Starfox, but not the Nintendo character in the movie. Yes. Also, why won't they make another Star Fox game? Right. What's happening? Please, if someone fixed that at Nintendo.
Starting point is 01:01:48 Cool. So Eternals, I guess the idea of Eternals and Celestials and all of that is something. Yes. If anything, it might tie in with Guardians 3. Yeah, okay. Probably not, though. Since they were introduced in a Guardians movie, I guess.
Starting point is 01:02:01 Yeah. Yeah. They're always poking around the universe making big eggs. That's true. Why are they always making big eggs? Stop doing that. You need the love and the mind, the unimind to make a big egg hatch. That's right.
Starting point is 01:02:16 You can't make a unimind without breaking a few eggs. But then because of the snap. Yes. They couldn't, the egg didn't hatch because there wasn't enough people yeah yeah yeah but then
Starting point is 01:02:28 all the people came back and then the it was egg hatching time the egg was like that's right you're about to get egg bitch that's right
Starting point is 01:02:34 and then they went let's use all our powers yeah nice together that's good stop this from happening perfect teamwork I haven't seen it even once
Starting point is 01:02:42 no no they're right um wait one more thing yes and something laid yeah we talked about this but the only thing Perfect, teamwork. I haven't seen it even once. No, no, they're right. Wait, one more thing. Yes. And something's- Blade. Yeah, we talked about this. The only thing, I don't think the only thing
Starting point is 01:02:50 that will ever come back from this is Blade, probably. Oh, yeah, Blade. Yeah. Oh, they said laid. No. Like it's a big egg. Like an egg, no. Blade and maybe the Black Knight, but probably not.
Starting point is 01:02:59 Probably together, right? I suspect that the post-battle scene at the end of Eternals where Cersei, I think, gets abducted by one of the Celestials and like, you will face judgment on the other side of the universe or whatever. Arishima's here. I don't think that's ever going to be resolved. I think so.
Starting point is 01:03:18 I think they'll, even in passing. Oh, in passing it might. Do you think we won't see it? I reckon in Secret Wars, like when Secret Wars is just end game but times 100 and there's just thousands of portals opening up for the big battle, I think there'll be one where one of the portals open and Arishem is there just waving and he's like, sorry for the misunderstanding.
Starting point is 01:03:40 Not guilty. Not guilty. Bye-bye. Don't be a stranger, Cersei. And Cersei comes out and she's like, I'm going to fight. Yeah. Good movie. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:03:51 I didn't like it. No. Also, it's that thing of like, don't get involved. Why didn't you stop Thanos? And I know we've talked about this because we have actually both seen it. And they're like, we were told not to get involved. But he was going to snap half the Earth away. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:04:03 That's important to the Celestials. They need that to patch the big egg. That's true. The Earth's an egg mason. And look, I appreciate- The Earth's an egg mason. Do you think the Earth being an egg is going to come back? No, never.
Starting point is 01:04:14 Literally never. Because we don't even- Can we at least fly over and be like, what's that? Because we don't have- Remember that time the Earth was an egg? I guess the question is which character would make a quip about it being an egg because Tony Stark's dead. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:04:28 And he can't be like, boy, that's... The Earth's an egg. The Earth's an egg. I'm Tony Stark. The Earth's an egg. You believe this? He's run out of quips. There's got to be a point, I think,
Starting point is 01:04:41 where societally the Marvel Universe is run out of quips and people are just like, Jesus, Jesus Christ. Maybe they'll answer it in a What If episode. They'll just be like, listen, hey, normally these are like What If stories, but this is just the second Eternals movie. Yeah, right. It's in the regular universe. And it's going to be split with another.
Starting point is 01:05:00 And it's Howl of the Duck 2. You've got ten minutes and then Howl of the Duck 2, yeah. Rather, they're going to be like, you've got ten minutes and then how to duck too, yeah. Look, again, look, I appreciate that they took a shot on a direct view. Completely agree. It was going to give it a different visual style. It's a shame that the visual style was uninteresting. I mean, they did a lot of real location stuff.
Starting point is 01:05:19 I guess. They're always in a field or whatever. Salma Hayek's always leaning against a fence in a cowboy hat being like, humanity's pretty good actually, and the earth's an egg. That's true. That's true. They're always in a field or whatever. Salma Hayek's always leaning against a fence in a cowboy hat being like, humanity's pretty good actually and the earth's an egg. It's true. It's true. Icarus, you flew too close to the sun and the world's an egg.
Starting point is 01:05:38 It did. Because it's funny because the story of Icarus, we've talked about this, of the guy flying too close to the sun and whatever, that's within the thing. It's like it's in the universe. Yeah. And he's Icarus. You'd think he wouldn't. And then he doesn't.
Starting point is 01:05:51 Yep. Yeah. He's supposed to be dead also. Ah, okay. Was he a guy that was right? No. No. Because he wanted to end all life on Earth, I think.
Starting point is 01:06:01 With the egg. With the egg, yes. Look, but again, i think it was probably a mistake to go with we're gonna do kind of like sort of minimalist 2001 yeah visuals for this particular thing when previously we'd seen marvel cosmic stuff and it's technicolor and amazing and incredible and yeah that sort of stuff to go yeah, actually space is very cold and quiet and we fly around in a big black brick and the Earth's an egg. You know?
Starting point is 01:06:31 If the Earth's an egg, you can't also fly around in a big black brick. No? I don't think it works. Okay, I get what you're saying. But that's all I have for that. Okay. It's like a big boring stone countertop. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:06:41 Oh, it really is, yeah. You go to somebody's house and you're like, you don't have kids, do you? Because you've got this dumb thing. That's right. It's all angles for your kid to crack their head on. That's right. And expensive, which you could do if you don't have kids.
Starting point is 01:06:52 Well, exactly. Otherwise your kid's just going to get a fork and just chip into it. They're bored one day and you're not there, so they're just chipping out of your countertop. The only real other legacy this movie has. The only legacy this movie has left is that in Ms. Marvel, there is a moment where Ms. Marvel and one of her boys she's got a crush on or has a crush on her, they have a discussion about Bollywood movies
Starting point is 01:07:20 and they have a disagreement over which Kingo they like the most. One of them likes modern-day Kingo and the other one likes Kingo. I don't even remember how I missed that. I don't know. You probably weren't paying attention. I wasn't. Your kid was probably attacking your countertop and you're like, get out of it.
Starting point is 01:07:34 But, yeah, and one of them likes Kingo's grandfather or whatever. Oh, okay. Unbeknownst to them, Kingo and Kingo's grandfather are the same, Kingo. Yes, absolutely. I guess also, don't we see those guys, they're in Thor Love and Thunder, there's a couple of those. Like when they fly through the window, a couple of them look around. What, a couple of Eternals?
Starting point is 01:07:49 Yeah, no, not Eternals. A couple of Celestials. Yeah, the Celestials, right? The Celestials were in Guardians of the Galaxy. You're right, yeah, absolutely right. Anyway. Anyway, thumbs down. Four thumbs down.
Starting point is 01:08:00 Next up we have Hawkeye in November. Pointless. Like fun, but pointless. Yeah. Actually, Netflix Daredevil stuff is back. That's true, yeah. That's what this is. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:08:12 Yeah. And look, the series upon which some of this is based, My Life as a Weapon, the Hawkeye limited series, that's also, if you think about it, pointless. Yes. Because it's just Hawkeye having a little adventure in New York City. Sorry, not everything has to be like, you know. Yeah. At the end if he's like, there you think about it, pointless. Yes. Because it's just Hawkeye having a little adventure in New York City. Oh, yeah, I know. Sorry, not everything has to be like, you know. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:08:27 At the end, if he's like, there's a celestial here. This ties into something big. And Kate Bishop's probably Young Avengers. What's for breakfast, my wife? Oh, eggs. Womp, womp, womp. Had enough of those eggs. Yeah, that's an egg.
Starting point is 01:08:43 Yeah, I mean, I reckon for me. He's running around New York like the earth isn't a big egg. Like a runny egg. Running like a runny egg. But I think perhaps for me this was a relief that it was mostly unconnected to anything else. It was just like it's not all cosmic. It's just he's having a bit of trouble with crime
Starting point is 01:09:02 and a protege in New York City, baby, having a big slice of pizza. What about Mockingbird? Is that anything? Oh, because his wife is maybe Mockingbird? Yeah, he's Mockingbird. Ah, no. That will probably not come up again. I think it will.
Starting point is 01:09:15 I think she'll step out of a portal or something. Oh, you reckon? Okay, yeah. Yeah, we need more people to step out of portals. That's true. What are you even doing? Mm-hmm. We're not in portals.
Starting point is 01:09:23 So I think Young Avengers also, Kate Bishop. Yes, Kate Bishop and new Black Widow. Is she going to be on Young Avengers or is she going to be on Thunderbolts? Or is she going to be on one and switch sides? Yeah, maybe it's that. Young Avengers versus Thunderbolts? Maybe.
Starting point is 01:09:35 That'd be pretty cool actually. Yeah. Anyway, yeah, Hawkeye, pretty fun, Christmas, et cetera. Just all the adults bodying their kids because their mass is so much greater. New Hawkeye shows up in US age and just smashes it into a wall
Starting point is 01:09:50 because he's got super strength in that indestructible shield He does Does he have an indestructible shield? They'll build him one The government
Starting point is 01:09:56 will build him one After that of course I mean he had that homemade one for a minute That's true he did It lasted like 30 seconds He threw it and it landed on the ground
Starting point is 01:10:04 like a garbage can lid. Yeah, because in the comic books, like Captain America's shield is sort of like it's an artifact. There's really only one of them. But in the movies it seems like they just build him another one. Well, they repaired the old one, I assume. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I guess.
Starting point is 01:10:19 Next up, Mason. This is a Sony thing, so it counts though. Yeah. We're not doing Morbius, by the way, because it means nothing. I mean, it must have had something to do with Spider-Man. That's too bad. Spider-Man No Way Home in December. I mean, that's all, again, multiverse Secret Wars stuff, right?
Starting point is 01:10:34 And that also established that you can definitely go into another movie universe. Yes. And I don't think we'd seen that properly. That's true. Is that right? I mean, we'd seen the Qu that's true is that right i mean we'd seen the quicksilver thing yes but that wasn't him that was a guy who looked like quicksilver and it was alfred boner and we've seen spider verse but i don't think that that wasn't this no yeah but i think this is really canonically uh you know confirming that if we want to see
Starting point is 01:11:01 characters from like the 70s if we want to see hulk show we can listen we want to see characters from like the 70s Hulk show. If we want to see Eric Banner's Hulk. If we want to see Eric Banner's Hulk, we're going to see that. And again, there was more Daredevil stuff in this. That's true, yeah. A little road test, bringing back Charlie Cox, seeing how people responded. You're right, you're right.
Starting point is 01:11:14 And everyone cheered and clapped. Everyone said, whoop, whoop, holler, and hello. They did, it's true. They said to each other. Yes. Also pretty good. Yeah. I think nostalgia kind of done right.
Starting point is 01:11:25 Yeah. Yeah, but that idea that you can go into any universe. I think nostalgia kind of done right. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, but that idea that you can go into any universe, I think that's awesome. I thought about Deadpool 3, right? I've been thinking about this. Oh, yeah. And I think.
Starting point is 01:11:33 Just had some idle time. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I think they won't do this and it's already decided upon. What if they brought back Hugh Jackman? Go on. But Deadpool just grabs Hugh Jackman, the actor. Love it. And takes him on his adventures.
Starting point is 01:11:46 And he tries to get him to do like Wolverine things. And he's just like, I'm Hugh Jackman, the actor. What if... Hugh Jackman. What if they went through various parallel universes and they collected all the various characters Hugh Jackman has played over a span of years. They got him from Paperback Hero. They got him from Les Miserables
Starting point is 01:12:02 if in fact he's in that. They get him from... The Greatest Showman. The Greatest Showman, they get him from lay miserables if in fact he's in that yes yes uh they get him from the greatest showman greatest showman they get it from that they get him from the movie swordfish they get him from hugh jackman thinks about his memories somewhat they get and they tell it's a team of hugh jackman's yeah yeah and then wolverine shows up the new guy playing wolverine just kills them all yeah sure absolutely fine what do you think about that though really because i know Hugh Jackman's like, I don't want to be Wolverine again. What if they're like, you're not? That'd be funny.
Starting point is 01:12:29 I would love that. Yeah. And I think also, would it be too much if they just kept him the entire movie? That he just hung around the entire time? Oh, no, I would love that. Deadpool with Hugh Jackman as sidekick. Yeah, that would be great. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:12:40 Cool. All right. Anyway, they won't do it, but it would be cool. Yeah, we can imagine it. Yeah. Our imagination. Exactly. And we can pitch't do it, but it would be cool. Yeah, we can imagine it. Yeah. Our imagination. Exactly. And we can pitch it to Hugh Jackman if we ever meet him.
Starting point is 01:12:48 You know, he met Fred Savage or whatever. It's like that shit, you know, Deadpool, when he met Fred Savage. Oh, yeah, that's true. It's just like that shit. It's just like that goddamn shit, Mason. Next up, we're in 2022 now, which is actually the year we're in now. That's right. Look around, Mason.
Starting point is 01:13:02 That's where we are. Whoa, this is awful. Yeah. We thought it was going to be better, but it sucks just as much as the previous year. I mean, don't let this drab room fool you, Mason. Oh, yeah, that's true, yeah. But beyond these walls, it is awful, yes.
Starting point is 01:13:13 Yeah, I see, yeah. Moon Knight. Moon Knight. Moon Knight. Month Knight. I remember that, yeah. Month Man. Month Man.
Starting point is 01:13:22 In hindsight, Mason, do you think it did all the things that you wanted out of a Moon Knight? Or do you think maybe they shouldn't have cut away from all of his fight scenes? I think they shouldn't have cut away from all his fight scenes. I mean, they did show all the fight scenes towards the back end of it. But, yeah.
Starting point is 01:13:35 I think in retrospect, I think it was an interesting character and probably an interesting series, but I think it did almost none of what I wanted from a Moon Knight series. Okay, interesting. No detective stuff. No detective stuff. No long-form fight scenes. No long-form fight scenes, very few fight scenes of any kind.
Starting point is 01:13:55 I really liked Ossur Isaac. Yeah. Yeah, and I liked all that afterlife shit, weird hippo things. Sure, yeah. You know, he's got multiple personalities. I thought that was balanced really well. I liked that new lady. Yeah, she was great and moving on yeah but what's what that what do we get out of it almost nothing we dream afterlife world maybe yeah anything yeah because that was i feel like
Starting point is 01:14:17 also they didn't they don't know that oscar isaac was going to come back or even that's true i think he will but he has to come out of the portal. Yes, he has to come out of the portal. But I think, what if there was one portal? They're all like on the other side. They're all just smoking out the back. It's just Moon Knight and Cersei and whoever else we said earlier. It's just like.
Starting point is 01:14:36 Crocodile Loki. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Just like, oh, you want us now? All right, cool, cool. Great, all right. Yeah, I think that one was kind of like hawkeye or probably even more so really designed as a closed universe yes there's not really anything wider in it that's true a big crocodile fought a big that was fun go with a stick yeah and some people reckon
Starting point is 01:14:58 like that people didn't see it i think people did see that or is it does it matter i think people did see it and it's but it's like the celestial sticking out of the ocean people are just in this universe people are desensitized to all that just like oh is it yeah when's that happening it's happening now okay all right great yeah can you look can you film the the giant crocodile fighting the giant bone bird monster and i'll watch it tomorrow if i have a chance honestly but also i'll look at it on twitter put it on twitter i'll follow you on twitter so i'll watch a terrible twitter video have a chance, honestly. But also. I'll look at it on Twitter. Put it on Twitter. I'll follow you on Twitter. I'll watch a terrible Twitter video that buffers and stutters because Twitter players know you.
Starting point is 01:15:30 Do you think, though, we're going to be getting more personality at the end because you got this personality and they want to get that series about the cabbie and whatever. Yeah, maybe, yeah. I think they're definitely going to do more Moon Knight. The crabby cabbie. Crabby cabbie, yeah. Jake Lockley, crabby cabbie.
Starting point is 01:15:44 Do you think they could do like a Daredevil Moon Knight? I would love them to bring back the Marvel Knights. Yeah. Like both the comic book imprint and give us like movies under the Marvel Knights banner, which would still be MCU but just kind of weird smaller scale stuff, magic stuff, you know, what's going bump in the night kind of stuff. Do you think kind of, not really, but kind of like a Netflix,
Starting point is 01:16:10 how they did Netflix Marvel where like this is a separate situation. Let me find out what Ghost Rider's up to. Chuck the Punisher in there. Yeah, what's the Punisher doing? Shooting a gun, I reckon. Shooting a gun. He's going bang. He's going bang all the time.
Starting point is 01:16:24 Yeah, yeah, yeah. Anyway, I liked it. But I don't know. What do we say out of it? Marvel Knights? Yeah. Really? No, probably not.
Starting point is 01:16:32 All right. Let's say nothing then. Say nothing. Is anybody in that movie joining the Thunderbolts? Maybe Moon Knight's on the Thunderbolts. Yeah, maybe. But see, the Thunderbolts to me has to have – actually, that's not true either.
Starting point is 01:16:45 The Dark Avengers has to have like evil versions of our existing heroes. Yeah. Thunderbolts, there aren't really any rules. So I guess they could put Moon Knight on there. Yeah. Okay, next up we have Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Oh, Multiverse stuff. Loved it.
Starting point is 01:17:00 Big fan actually. Yeah, me too. I liked it. So that ties into Secret Wars, et cetera, and the idea of different dimension and different people and so on and so forth. Yes. I would like Sam Raimi to do another one of these.
Starting point is 01:17:12 Same. I don't know whether he will, but yeah. All the stuff that I feel like we've talked about was in, you know, I love Revenge. Whoever's left of the Avengers or the Illuminati, which is only Mordo. Yes. Like plot revenge against strange and regular.
Starting point is 01:17:31 I mean, it would be nice to get some actual Mordo revenge because the regular Mordo didn't get any revenge. What if double Mordo revenge? Double Mordo. You got two Mordos coming at you. We've both got sticks that shoot firecrackers. We'll hit you in the head with that. Sure.
Starting point is 01:17:44 Yeah. Yeah, great. Okay. Because also, of course, original Mordo was supposed We'll hit you in the head with that. Sure. Yeah. Yeah, great. Okay. Because also, of course, original Mordor was supposed to be beheaded at the start as well by Wanda. Oh. Yeah, that's right. Yeah, there's a bunch of stuff that was cut out of that for various reasons.
Starting point is 01:17:56 Obviously all that kind of ties back to Loki and et cetera and so forth. Yeah. His Marvel we just got, I think Young Avengers. Young Avengers. And, of course, the Marvels, obviously. What are they going to be battling in space, though? I think that ties into whatever the mystical energy is. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:18:13 A big bangle, a big free-floating bangle. That's right. I'm a big bangle. I've got powers. Am I good or bad? It's up to the wielder of the bangle. He's going gonna get me first I'm fast though, I'm slippery too
Starting point is 01:18:29 covered in butter I'm wizard all about the place more oily yeah sure anyway we literally just talked about it but I would say yeah well obviously as mentioned the marvels and young adventures and what about if like
Starting point is 01:18:44 because they got like mystical deities and things like that as well. Would that be like a Moon Knight thing? And is it going to be like a, and obviously we've got a bunch of gods in Thor. Are we going to be getting like a, and then Wakanda is probably going to be dealing with, Wakanda Forever is going to be dealing with the afterlife.
Starting point is 01:18:58 Do you think we're building like a god, like a pantheon of gods? James, let me read this email that we got. I was going to save it for letters because it's nearly time for letters sure but this is an email from chris from boston okay chris boston he says mcu's next phase is afterlife oh hey james and myself has been highly speculated and hinted at that the next phase of the mcu is going to deal with kang and new avengers or something related to superhero families feuding but is there any chance we get thrown a curveball and the next phase of mcu revolves around death and the afterlife? We've seen afterlives in Black Panther, Moon Knight,
Starting point is 01:19:28 and now Thor, Love and Thunder, which leads me to believe this cannot be a coincidence. Anyway, Kip, it's a great work, mates. Let's put that on there. Yeah. So what is it, afterlife something? Something about the afterlife, yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:19:41 I mean, maybe. Is that how you bring back dead characters? Maybe. But I also wonder if maybe that's just a mechanism to tell audiences that it's okay if one of your favorite characters dies. Yes. That's what I'm saying. Not that they're going to return.
Starting point is 01:19:55 Yeah. It's just they live on in another dimension. And if we can afford them, they'll return. Yes, exactly right. Yes, that is true. A very handy repository of actors who have burned through their contracts. And will now step out of a portal. Yeah, yeah, got to step out of a portal later.
Starting point is 01:20:12 I'd love to step out of a portal. Well, you can't. It's going to stop me. It's going to stop me. Reality? Yeah, yeah. Great. Then we've got, of course, Thor, Love and Thunder.
Starting point is 01:20:23 This is interesting. I just thought I'd put this in. This is by Joanna Robinson of The Ringer. Tiger having a blank check on this was absolutely not the case. He got more leeway than he got with Ragnarok, but there was a mandate to bring the movie in under two hours. This comes in under two hours, and they cut a ton of stuff out of the movie,
Starting point is 01:20:39 apparently also including Gorr was supposed to kill a bunch of other gods. Evil gods? Good, good gods. Yeah, I think that's what probably Lena Headey's character probably was. Yeah. She could have been the other, other Athena. Yeah, I also read some scuttlebutt that the reason will never, because I think Taika Waititi went on, there was an interview with him,
Starting point is 01:20:58 and he said something like, yeah, you're not seeing any of the deleted scenes because they weren't any good, whatever. And Lena Headey and Dinklage and someone else, you were saying? There was a few people, yeah. Someone else. But it was also suggested, some scuttlebutt on the internet, that if they are added in as deleted scenes,
Starting point is 01:21:15 you've got to pay them again. Oh, really? Like it's a kind of a, or like you have to keep paying them residuals forever, like more than they would have normally gotten because basically even if they're just in deleted scenes, it's as if they're in the movie. So you have to – so they ain't going to be seen again because –
Starting point is 01:21:31 Yeah. Okay. Did you also see this, that they shot Russell Crowe's scenes twice, once with an English accent and once with a Greek accent? Yes, a Greek accent. Yes, I did see that, yeah. A Greek accent. A Greek accent, yes.
Starting point is 01:21:41 Yeah, so there you go. Anyways, you hated this. Yeah, I hated it. But what about gods and afterlife and stuff? Because Jane foster's in an afterlife as well yeah that's what i'm saying i'm saying no i reckon it's it's twofold and it's the thing you said yep that they can have a repository of heroes to bring back if they need to they can if there's a big fan outcry or an actor expresses interest in coming back they can just say okay, okay, well, we figured out a way to get them out of the afterlife.
Starting point is 01:22:06 They're in an afterlife. But I think it's also a way to cushion. Because I kind of also feel like some people have such an ownership of all the characters in the MCU now that if one of them were to die, they'd be really upset and there'd be big campaigns, bring back whoever. And I wonder if it's a case of saying, no, you know, they're actually okay.
Starting point is 01:22:26 They still exist and they can still do quips from the afterlife. Also there's other dimensions and they're in there as well. There are other dimensions, yeah. Anyway, we are up to date, Mason. Whoa. And this is the list that we've got of things that are happening. Kang, Secret Wars, Thunderbolts, Harry Styles, Blade, Netflix Daredevil stuff.
Starting point is 01:22:46 Daredevil. Daredevil. It's New Zealand Daredevil. Wow. I'm Daredevil. I hit you with my stocks. Wow. It's true, Mason.
Starting point is 01:22:55 That's how they talk. That's how they talk. And they know it. Yeah, that's right. Young Avengers, animation, afterlife something, mystical energy. There we go. Oh, we've cracked the code, I think. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:23:12 We've done it. You're welcome, Kevin Fyre. All you have to do is pick through that list and choose whatever you want. That's right. And you've got a new phase. It's all good, though. It's all great stuff. Mystical energy, certainly.
Starting point is 01:23:22 A bangle in space. That's the mystical energy part. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.angle in space. That's the mystical energy part. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. There we go. So cool. I think some, if not all, of that is going to be relevant down the line, mostly also because they've said some of those things are definitely happening.
Starting point is 01:23:35 Sure. Kang, for example, we know is in an upcoming movie. Speaking of, these are the upcoming movies still to come in Phase 4. Uh-oh. Wakanda Forever, Ant-Man 3. Quantumania. Guardians 3. The Mar-Vells, which is July next year, actually.
Starting point is 01:23:51 That's really far. That's like a year away. That's annoying. Someone say too soon. No, it's not, but I'm just, we don't have to, we don't, again, like I think the major criticism of this and the reason we got this infographic in the first place is there's just been so much. It's a million. It's a million so much a million and it's a million isn't it it's a million it's a million yeah um and the maybe the reason people are thinking you know the mcu was less special or what have you or
Starting point is 01:24:14 people are fatigued on it is because marvel has gone well if you like 12 hours of this you're like 50 hours of this i mean i guess like we will, but it'd be nice to have a bit of breathing room and a bit of, uh, you know, a bit of time to build expectation and be excited for this stuff, as opposed to, well, there'll be another thing next month. So just like it's, you know, given that it's reached a point, especially, you know, this last couple of years where we would do recaps and then we'd have one week off and then it'd be time for the next big thing. You know, it's kind of. So I was just looking. Also.
Starting point is 01:24:48 Yeah. Do you ever feel like they've really started mining all the great storylines? Like they started in the 60s and over a span of, you know, 10, 12 years they've mined every story? Because like Love and Thunder was drawn from, you know, the series that ran from like you know 2013 to 2020 what are they going to do next X-Men okay X-Men okay then I'm not even worried yeah
Starting point is 01:25:13 that's the thing that will speak I haven't even finished naming all the movies there's also the Fantastic Four which will come on the back end of this and Blade yes and now we've got the TV shows that are coming I Am Groot, She-Hulk, Werewolf by Night Special, Guardians of the Galaxy Christmas Special, Echo Secret Invasion, Iron Wars, Ironheart, Armor Wars, House of Harkness, Spider-Man Freshman Year Marvel Zombies. Wow. Yeah. That's a lot. I was hoping to
Starting point is 01:25:35 interject something in between all of those but there's so many that we would never finish this episode if we did that. Yeah. Before I started this, I'm like, oh, we're going to be like, oh, yeah, that was all right, next thing. But it was a lot, even to quickly brush over these. But are you still invested in all of this stuff, though?
Starting point is 01:25:54 Yes, I am. And, like, the idea of some of these things showing up again, like picking up these threads you're interested in, but maybe just, like, slightly less stuff. I can't wait for somebody to build a resort on with Celestial. That'd be great, wouldn't it? It's in the hand. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 01:26:07 Or on the head. Do they drill it open? Like they drill out the one in space? Yeah. Can you drill in that? He's a rock now, isn't he? Yeah, he's a rock now. A big rock.
Starting point is 01:26:15 Just get a kid who can chip into a table. Into a table, yeah. Into a table to take in. Yeah, I don't know, man. Well, I guess we'll see, won't we? We sure will. Anyways, Mason, do you know what it's time for? It's time for What We're Reading.
Starting point is 01:26:27 Yep. What We're Going to Read. Here it comes. And by that I mean the theme song. Nice. Thank you. I'm doing the theme. What are we reading today?
Starting point is 01:26:42 Mason, this is the segment of the show where we talk about things we have watched, read, or listened to. Ain't that the truth. Yes. I mentioned last week that I was watching the movie Men, and I was like 20, 30 minutes from finishing the movie Men. Men. And I did. How'd that go?
Starting point is 01:26:55 Boy, Mason. Oh, I still haven't gotten to it. Boy, howdy. I'm not going to spoil it for you, but also others, I guess. I don't think I liked it. Now, so this is from? Alex Garland. Alex Garland, he did many things.
Starting point is 01:27:08 He did Annihilation. He did other things that we like. He wrote the movie Sunshine, your favorite movie. Not true, Deus Ex. Ex Machina, rather. He made all the Deus Ex games and he voiced all the characters. That's great. So he did, I never asked for this.
Starting point is 01:27:22 He did that line? He did that, yeah. That's great. It's one of my favorite lines. Mimes of Robot Arms, mires of sunglasses. That's even more iconic than the one I said. What's that character's name? I've forgotten.
Starting point is 01:27:36 It doesn't matter. Marcus Swindler. Devs. He did devs as well. Yeah, that's true. Let me find out what his name is. Maximum News Alarms? No.
Starting point is 01:27:45 His name is... I played one of those games briefly. All right. Adam Jensen. Adam Jensen. I'm Adam Jensen. My name is Adam Jensen and my eyes are sunglasses. I never asked for this. Boy, it's handy on a summer's day.
Starting point is 01:28:02 I want a nomadical. I never asked for this. Well. Oh, yeah. Anyway, so I just, I think it's too kind of cryptic. I think the imagery, people who have seen it, it's very striking imagery, obviously, which I'm not going to get into. But, like, it's beautifully shot and it's compelling
Starting point is 01:28:21 and I like, like, the themes that kind of run through it. But I think it's too kind of like I don't know, it just didn't kind of come together for me. Maybe it'll take like a revisit of me watching a bunch of recaps on YouTube. Is that because you saw yourself as one of the men? Yes. Wow. Yeah. Because I hear they're bad. They're all
Starting point is 01:28:38 bad in it. Wow. And Roy Kinney's on a little boy at one point. So I've seen that in the trailer, yeah. So that's happening in it. But, again, good performances in it and all of that. But, yeah, I don't know. It just didn't. That's a shame.
Starting point is 01:28:51 Well, I'm going to watch it and disagree with you. Yeah, you should. I've preemptively decided. I've gone in wanting to disagree with you. It's not bad. It's not bad either. I wouldn't be like, this is bad. I hate it.
Starting point is 01:29:01 Because it was very compelling to watch. Maybe you didn't get it. Yeah, maybe. Maybe I didn't. But I read all the things after. Oh, this is bad, I hate it because I didn't – like it was very compelling to watch. Maybe you didn't get it. Yeah, maybe. Maybe I didn't. But I read all the things after. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm like, is it this? Oh, yeah, one of the options is that it could have been this.
Starting point is 01:29:12 Yeah, right. Yeah. Anyway. Did you watch the CinemaSins video on it? Yeah. Maybe you'll get it if you watch the CinemaSins video on it. Men, they're actually – it was the same guy so it should have been just called man.
Starting point is 01:29:23 Ding. And ding, yeah. Good on them, whatever they're up to, those guys. Yeah, that's great. I don't watch the videos. I've got another thing, but what are you doing? Well, speaking of men, the movie men and the grey man, I watched a show. It's on FX in the US.
Starting point is 01:29:36 It's on Disney Plus in Australia. It's called The Old Man. Oh, the Jeff Bridges one. Yeah, it's Jeff Bridges. Is it the full series out already? No, there's two episodes. Two episodes. So it's Jeff Bridges and John Lithgow.
Starting point is 01:29:46 John Lithgow. And it's just, they're just, exactly. I reckon it's just bloody career best just acting. Cracking and dacking. I don't know how much I should reveal about it because I think some of the, I wouldn't say the fun of it is the reveal, but Jeff Bridges is sort of a man who's sort of isolated himself. He's out in the suburbs.
Starting point is 01:30:10 I would love it if he was Wolverine. He's not Wolverine. Oh, that'd be so great. Oh, but what a reveal that would be. Yeah, I'm Wolverine. I mean, there's only two episodes out. Maybe he'll be Wolverine. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:30:19 But he's a man. His wife's passed away and he's out in the sticks and he's just living alone with a couple of dogs. And he's probably a spy or whatever? Yeah, he's a spy. He used to be a spy. Without giving too much away, he used to be a spy and he did a bunch of bad stuff.
Starting point is 01:30:36 And basically he's been on the run basically since the 80s, but he took on a new identity and sort of thought everything had been left behind. But for whatever reason, there's been some interest in him and they've tracked him down. And John Lithgow's character. He took a company computer when he left. That's exactly right, yes.
Starting point is 01:30:57 He took an IBM 286. We're going to need that back. We saw you upgraded the antivirus software. That's how we found you. We need the Encarta CD you left in there as well. And the AOL, 100 hours of free internet. We need it back. But John Lithgow, you know, they have history together.
Starting point is 01:31:16 So he doesn't work for, you know, the CIA or whatever anymore. But they've brought him back in because he knows this guy. Maybe they'll work together. Maybe they'll be at odds. Does he know he's Jeff Bridges? Yeah, he's like, listen, I know you're the actor Jeff Bridges. Yeah. I loved you in Iron Man, he said.
Starting point is 01:31:34 Yeah, I love your brother Nash Bridges. That's right. If you are brothers. Yeah, I love Beau Bridges. Yes, if you are brothers. They're definitely brothers. Okay, good. Terrific stuff.
Starting point is 01:31:42 Good character-driven stuff. It's good. Good. Gooddriven stuff. It's good. Good. Good action too. Yeah. Because it's, you know, Jeff Bridges, he's getting on a bit, but he's still kicking a man right in the balls. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:31:53 He's really getting him in a choke on the ground and then kicking him in the balls with the heel of his foot. That's fun. With a booted foot, just getting him in there. That's fun, mate. It's fun. Not for the guy getting hit in the balls. It's not about him.
Starting point is 01:32:03 It's about me. That's right. And that's fun. Yeah. There was a hit in the balls. It's not about him. It's about me. That's right. That's fun. Yeah. There's a YouTube channel that I actually found just yesterday. It's by the name of Boy Lie Hobby Time, right? Okay. Now it's probably pronounced.
Starting point is 01:32:14 He just makes cool little diorama stuff. Is it Boy Who Lies? No, he doesn't tell us the truth, Mason, about how to make a good diorama. So it's ironic. Yeah. So he'll buy a couple of AT-ATs, right, the little models, S-Hats if you want to call them, and he'll put them together and he'll like weather damage them and then he'll make a little
Starting point is 01:32:30 like snow diorama. It's got the little rebel base and the big ion cannon on the top. Would you describe these videos as soothing? Yeah, a little bit. Yeah, it's more kind of like this is a fascinating, oh, he's cutting foam up and whatever. It's just specific latex and whatever. He did a high ground one.
Starting point is 01:32:43 They're not all Star Wars ones. There's one where like it's Luke Skywalker and he's on the ground and he's in like the superhero pose and he's got the lightsaber and he's just cut clean through an AT-ST, you know, like it's the Force Unleashed or whatever. Anyway, it's just cool. I'm like this is cool stuff. But he was like action figures but then he was like, you know.
Starting point is 01:33:03 Does he do one where Luke Skywalker's got like the Emperor on the ground in like a choke and he's healing him in the nuts? Yeah. Wow, that's cool. That's really good. That's sick, actually. That's Star Wars, isn't it? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:33:13 A lot of people think Star Wars hasn't been the same since the 80s, and maybe that's true. Maybe that's something they could re-include. Maybe that's how Rey should have taken out the Emperor. Just an awkward scuffle. And he doesn't melt or anything or explode. He's just out of breath in the Emperor. Just an awkward scuffle. And he doesn't melt or anything or explode. He's just out of breath in the end. You can say.
Starting point is 01:33:31 Yeah. Very good. Anything else for you? No, that's everything. Let's do another segment. All right, the next segment is letters. Let's get on with it. Okay.
Starting point is 01:33:39 The classic one was... Letters, oh letters, we love you. Some letters, they're only a day away. I know they're here right now. We're going to do letters. Damn, it's letter time, son. This is where we go, hey, did you send us a letter? It's been in the Gmail, weeklyplannerpod at gmail.com.
Starting point is 01:34:00 Maybe you don't have email. Maybe you've only got Twitter because you're an absolute fucking lunatic. How could you only have Twitter? That's madness. Maybe you had a hotmail back in the day and then they shut down hotmail. Yeah. And now you just don't have email anymore. That's what I'm saying.
Starting point is 01:34:15 You decided to just not get one. Can you even get a Twitter without an email? I don't think so. How do you buy something on the internet without email? I'm just saying. Boy, the picture you've painted of this imaginary person that doesn't have email but has Twitter somehow. And is messaging us.
Starting point is 01:34:30 They're a loose unit. I don't like it. No, I don't like it at all. It has hashtag weeklyplanetpod. That's true. You can have an email and still tweet at us. Look, I've got to find a new email because I use my one email. I got one from Aaron Holland who says hashtag weeklyplanetpod.
Starting point is 01:34:45 I just got out of hashtag Marcel the shell. Is that snail movie? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Yeah. It was really great and amazing and a movie we all need right now. Hashtag cinema jams. My podcast, we'll be doing it soon. Hope you guys are doing well.
Starting point is 01:35:00 I don't know anything about this, but I do know this person is also directing the Lilo and Stitch live action remake that is happening. I always thought that snail thing was like a short film. I'm like, I'll get to it. I think maybe it was a short film. I'll get to what I said to myself. So, yeah, thanks for writing in.
Starting point is 01:35:18 And I probably should have put that in the What Are We Reading thing, but I will check that out. My goodness, here's an email from Adam. Adam. Big Sandwich Classic Comic Book Club Indie Jams, he suggests will check that out. My goodness, here's an email from Adam. Adam? Big Sandwich Classic Comic Book Club Indie Gems, he suggests. Oh, yeah. Because, of course, we do a bonus podcast with Big Sandwich called The Big Sandwich Classic Comic Book Club.
Starting point is 01:35:32 And it's called that because of how classy it is. We do. Hello. He's not as nail as a shell, this guy. Okay, great. Hello. Two recommendations for the pod for you. Radiant Black and Undiscovered Country. I've read some of Radiant Black. Radiant Black is by Kyle Higgins, who wrote the new 52 Nightwing
Starting point is 01:35:47 and some of the more recent Power Rangers books. It's a superhero-style universe with a lot of weird alien stuff going on. It's absolutely fantastic and follows two best friends named James and Nick. This part is a lie. What? Yeah, but I've read Radiant Black. It's good. The whole thing?
Starting point is 01:36:00 No. I've read some of it, but it's good. You know, it's like it's a little bit Power Rangers. It's a little bit Spider-Man. It's good fun. It's like, you know, because the thing about superhero universes is they're not all going to hit. Like if somebody's like, I'm going to make a superhero universe.
Starting point is 01:36:14 Yeah, yeah, yeah. And a lot of the time it's like, well, I'm going to. I'm not going to do that. Well, it can be dangerous territory as well because what if, you know, some people go the safe route of like I'm going to have a Superman-style character and a Batman-style character, but'm also gonna have a spider-man style character and then they do that and you go this is unless there's an interesting take on that you know yeah it can be it can be all right yeah second one this one this one is sounds more
Starting point is 01:36:36 interesting to me and i haven't uh heard of this at all uh undiscovered country is written by charles sewell and scott snyder and follows a group of people who are to be the first to venture into America after it closed its borders 50 years ago. I haven't read some of that. Oh, yeah? No one knows what America looks like anymore and it takes a wonderful sci-fi twist absolutely worth the read. It also follows two friends named James and Nick.
Starting point is 01:36:57 This is a lie again. It's true. No, it's a lie. You just said a lot of lies. Is that why he suggested those two? Yeah, I kind of lost interest in that. I don't know why. I should go back to it, though, because I like those two together
Starting point is 01:37:07 and I like the concept. I might have even talked about that on here, but I only got like three or four in. Interesting. I'll go back to what I think. Anyways. I'm going to. I'm going to check out Radiant Black, though,
Starting point is 01:37:18 because I haven't checked that out at all. There's also a bunch of spin-offs. So, again, they're sort of like Power Rangers characters. So there's like Radiant Red and so on and so forth. Yes, yes, yes. Okay, cool. Good stuff, Mason. It is good stuff.
Starting point is 01:37:29 I like when people email in. I like it also. Like Matthew Kelso has. He says, hashtag WikiPlanetPod. He hasn't emailed in, though. Yes, he tweeted. He says, Hercules is leading the Thunderbolts, right? Oh.
Starting point is 01:37:42 Can we, is this? Could this be true? I guess, in the sense that he is uh is he in the thunderbolts then let it matter it doesn't matter i don't think it matters no uh but he could be they need a thor type they need a tank of some sort that's like more powerful than a somebody to really hit those kids those young avengers that's really just crush him under his heel hit him with a big club yeah okay great okay, great, okay. Cool. I don't mind that at all. Yeah, cool.
Starting point is 01:38:06 Terrific. Here's one more Gmail. Wow. This is from Daniel from London. London? That's right. Very old London. I never.
Starting point is 01:38:15 Hi, James and May. So I thoroughly enjoyed this week's episode, particularly the segment where you were discussing Thor, Love and Thunder. How did he hear this episode already? James, not this one. Is he listening? No, James.
Starting point is 01:38:24 What's the date on that? Yesterday. That's today. It was interesting to hear how divided you were with Mason bringing up his criticism and James looking for a way to explain it. I'm with Mason, by the way. Worst movie ever. With this in mind, can I please request that you disagree on everything from now on
Starting point is 01:38:39 just to make the pod extra spicy, keep up the great work, love the show from Daniel from London. Yes. Yeah, we can do that. Wait, no, we can't. from daniel from london yes yeah we can do that wait no we can't i think we should i don't think we can okay nice wait you son of a bitch no i'm good is this a part of it i don't know james i don't know this is too hard yeah it's very difficult my regular opinion yeah i i also wonder like do you think there's like podcasts and shows and i'm not talking about just like in this yeah do you think there's people
Starting point is 01:39:09 in like on supporting panels or like well i think he sucks or whatever yeah definitely on purpose yeah yeah i'm sam newman i don't think we could ever i don't think we could sustain that no and then i'd have to remember that i did it yes that's the hardest thing about lying or something like this you've got to remember like it needs to come. Yeah. Yeah. You're going to have a really good memory if you're a liar. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:39:29 Anyway, anything else? No. So imagine pretending to love or hate something. I know he's not serious. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like being like, oh, no, I loved it when I hated it. And then you've got to maintain that for the rest of your life or slowly transition out of it.
Starting point is 01:39:41 It's hard either way. Or assume people will just forget about it, but they won't. That's probably. Oh, yeah, that's a good point. Anything else, Mason? No, that's the whole. Should we give this show a big how's it going to go out of here? Yeah, let's give it a big how's it going to go out of here. Okay, good.
Starting point is 01:39:54 Folks, thank you so much for listening to the podcast. We absolutely do appreciate it. We do. We wouldn't be here without you. And we won't be in the month of August. We've said this before. We're taking a month of August off and we're shutting everything down. Shutting everything down.
Starting point is 01:40:07 Even your power at your house, Mason. Oh, no. But it's winter, James. I'm sorry. James, it's winter. We're all taking a break from electricity. Well, I guess it's probably good for the planet, I guess. I don't know.
Starting point is 01:40:19 It's not about that. It's just about. Shutting stuff off? Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I guess that's probably true. I've already cut all the wires in your car. I don't know which ones do what. I just cut a bunch of them. not about that it's just about shutting stuff off yeah yeah yeah i guess that's probably true i've already cut all the wires in your car i don't know which ones do what i just cut a bunch of them oh
Starting point is 01:40:29 that's probably a fun surprise for me it's true on a holiday yeah um uh thank you so much for uh telling your friends about the podcast subscribing to the podcast or leaving a five-star review because that's one of the ways that people find the podcast james you got any reviews there got a couple here and they're both five-star, which is excellent because people can just do it in-app on whatever their app of choice is. You can just do it in that. This is from ThePogChampion who says, I ever knew this was a podcast, five-star.
Starting point is 01:40:53 That's true. Nice. And this is from NameLZ who says, mostly good opinions. These guys said that X-Men The Last Stand better than Spider-Man 3. As far as I know, that's the only time that they've been wrong. Five stars but on thin ice. Is that even true? I don't know.
Starting point is 01:41:10 See, that's the thing. That would be yet another thing we'd have to remember. Did we think a thing was better than another thing? Yeah, right. But also then we did a Caravan of Garbage on Spider-Man 3. I don't know which one is better. I mean, I know which director I like better. We wouldn't have done a one-to-one comparison of the two movies though.
Starting point is 01:41:24 Three though because three. That's how we of the two movies, though. Three, though, because three. That's how we did it. Yeah, great. Great. All right, I'll take that back, I guess. Okay. I'm walking it back. Do you have a second review, then?
Starting point is 01:41:33 That was the second review. Do you have a third review? No. Terrific. That was a test. To see if I had a third review? Yeah. Interestingly, James, we're up to, on Spotify, we're up to 9,000 reviews.
Starting point is 01:41:44 What? I wonder if we can get- Stars, we're up to 9,000 reviews. What? I wonder if we can get. Stars or reviews? Stars. Stars, I apologize. I wonder when we'll get to 10,000 reviews. Holy crips and craps. Stars, rather.
Starting point is 01:41:52 Yeah. That's very exciting. We've taken many we've gotten on iTunes. Okay, if you wouldn't mind. I mean, this iTunes is also like, when you go to a page, it's from the country that it's from. It doesn't like aggregate them all. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 01:42:04 Okay, folks, if you want to get into contact with us, you can go to weeklyplanetpod at gmail.com. In Australia, we've got one and a half thousand. That's true. Facebook, Twitter, Bandcamp. You can follow our friend Raw Collings at Raw Collings on Twitter. He's also at The Weekly Planet on Twitter, which is probably the best place to go to learn all the-
Starting point is 01:42:21 Probably the best place to go. Best place to go in the world for all our various comings and goings. You can also go to the Planet Broadcasting Great Mates Facebook group, fun, very civil conversations about pop podcasts and pop culture. That's right. There's also the weekly Planet Pod subreddit and Discord. There's also a bunch of subgroups. We're sort of up in the air currently.
Starting point is 01:42:43 Will the main Planet Broadcasting Great Mates group, it might be shuttered for the month. Yes. But if there are also a bunch of different sub, that's just to give the admins a break. Yeah. But there are also a bunch of subgroups who are run by other people that are covering all sorts of stuff, video games and fitness and DIY
Starting point is 01:42:59 and probably Warhammer. They can do whatever they want. They can do comic books and all sorts of stuff. Shut them down or not. Yeah, so there is, I believe there's a master thread in the regular plans. There's a master thread in the Planet Broadcasting Great Mates group of like subgroups. So if you're really interested in that sort of stuff,
Starting point is 01:43:14 you want something to do during that month, if in fact we do shut it down, which we probably will, there's a bunch of stuff you can join and continue all those fun threads and such. Which would be nice. Yeah, or else. Or else. We'll get you.
Starting point is 01:43:26 Folks, you can also support the show if you want to go to patreon.com slash MrSundayMovies. Chucking a buck or a round. Oh, I should do that. You wouldn't miss. Or if you're a big, big spender, you can go to bigsandwich.co. Sign up for $9 per month. You get a bonus thing every week.
Starting point is 01:43:39 Bonus podcast, movie commentary, early videos, all sorts of stuff. There will be bonus stuff while we are on holiday. That's right. So if you want to jump in there, that would also be good. Thank you to the Brute and the Bass. That's going to rack them for all the musical themes. We've got T-shirts on TeePublic. Just search for the Weekly Planet.
Starting point is 01:43:54 And that is it. Next week, big time Comic-Con. Oh, my God. Comic-Con is back, baby. There will be big time news, one would assume. I hope it's a big news. I hope it's a big news also. I'm going to have a great time, I think, with that.
Starting point is 01:44:05 That's great, I think. I just switched on the old VPN, Mason. Oh, yes. And on the US Weekly Planet iTunes, we have 7.8 thousand ratings. That's pretty good. So in total, I'm presuming if you add up all the countries, that would hit a number. Which is going to get to 10 first?
Starting point is 01:44:20 Probably Spotify because you don't have to do anything else. You just hit the stars. Hit the thing and you go, thank you very much. Thank you very much. Yeah. All right. Yeah. Thanks, everybody, for listening.
Starting point is 01:44:29 Really appreciate it. One more episode until we're gone for good. Oh, no. Yes, Mason. Oh, no. Because you'll die of the cold because of the cut on the power or the car crash. I mean, that's a good – those are both good pranks,
Starting point is 01:44:40 I've got to tell you. I respect those. Not a prank. It's just part of the show. Yeah, and crime. And crime. All right. Thanks, everybody.
Starting point is 01:44:45 Grab that gem, you guys. We'll see you next week. Goodbye. I'm going to have you. I respect those. Not a prank. It's just part of the show. Yeah, and crime. And crime. All right. Thanks, everybody. Grab that gem, you guys. We will see you next week. Goodbye. I'm going to have a hot shower, Mason. I've earned it. Good for you. Thank you. Goodbye.
Starting point is 01:44:55 FX's The Veil explores the surprising and fraught relationship between two women who play a deadly game of truth and lies on the road from Istanbul to Paris and London.
