The Weekly Planet.
The Weekly Planet.
Welcome back everybody to another episode
of The Weekly Planet where we talk movies and comics
and TV shows.
My name is James also known as Mr. Sunday
and with me as always, Nick Mason.
I'm rip, roaring, raring to go.
I can tell.
You've been saying that for like 10 minutes. I've had so much caffeine and I've roaring raring to go. I can tell. You've been saying that for like 10 minutes.
I've had so much caffeine and I've got more caffeine to go. Well that's great for you and
the listeners I think. That's gonna bring a real bad energy. I think so too. Which is great on this
Easter weekend. Happy Easter if you celebrate it. You know what? Happy Easter if you don't celebrate
it. I throw that upon you. That's right. What do you think of that? That's right. We insist that on Monday you go down the shops and buy a lot of
discount chocolate even if you can't eat chocolate. You have to do it. You have to
do it. Get one of those peeps. You know those marshmallow? Yeah vaguely. Ducks or
whatever that chickens. Oh we didn't have those here. They look gross. I'm gonna say it.
Wow. Mason it's a huge week. Did you know that? I did know because it's Easter.
It's Easter, obviously.
Raw, rip raw and ready to go to get discount chocolate on Monday.
It's mostly trailers.
We've got a bunch of trailers we're going to talk about including the Fantastic Four
one.
It means the Hot Cross buns are going to go away.
There's fruit buns.
They're the same thing.
There's no other cross in there.
No, no, no, no, James.
No, no, no.
How many Hot Cross buns have you even eaten?
In the last, because they came out in like November.
A lot.
Exactly.
So many. Now I'm going to miss them. Let them go away and then you can, you know, you can come back
to it. It's good. It's something to look forward to, something to live for, for once in our miserable
lives. Okay. I guess we could live for something. Exactly. Okay. Continue. Fantastic Four, 28 years
later, Him. We've got a feature for Superman. and then of course it is Star Wars Celebration in Japan.
We've got-
Is that where it was?
Yeah, it still is too.
We've got the Mandalorian versus Grogu.
I guess they don't have Easter.
They don't, don't they?
In Japan.
I don't know.
I force it upon them.
Whoa!
Yeah.
The Mandalorian versus Grogu is a leaked trailer we both watched, which we can talk about.
There's also an announcement of a brand new Star Wars film, a brand new animated show.
And then don't worry, those movies that you didn't think were coming out, some of them
might be.
Some other ones.
No, some of them might be.
I mean, they might be.
Yeah.
Yeah.
We exist in a realm of infinite quantum possibilities.
It's true.
Except for these Star Wars movies that are coming out.
That Petty Jenkins one?
Not coming out.
No, that one I think is definitely not coming out.
Seems we're getting something which is somewhat similar, potentially.
Yeah, yeah.
With a guy, with a director who made a billion dollar movie and an actor.
And also that movie about how Owen Wilson worked at Google or whatever.
Oh yeah.
He did that one.
Nice.
Let's go to Google, but we're old.
The Google boys.
The Google boys.
And then we're going to talk about Sinners, Ryan Coogler's latest movie,
which we both have things to say about.
That's right.
Good and bad.
I don't think I have anything bad to say about it.
You told me you got only exclusively bad things to say about it.
I was tricking you.
Oh my god, you got me.
Looking forward to talking about that.
I met the devil down at a crossroads and he said, give James a big trick.
What?
I'll make you the best guitar player in all the land.
But you don't have a guitar.
I know.
Are you going to get one?
No. Just like knowing that have a guitar. I know. Are you going to get one? No. Just
like knowing that I've got it. Yeah. I can go to parties and play Wonderwall. Just pick
up some of these and people will be crying, you know, in the living room. Because you
play the best version of Wonderwall. Wonderwall, exactly. But you can't sing. It's not important.
Interesting deal that you made. Well, you know. Well, there wasn't much to it. You didn't
have to do much. Well, I had to just, I had to I had to trick you just then I did and I tricked you good.
You didn't have to sell your soul or anything. That was the extent of it.
That's right. Not a bad deal.
Yeah. Yeah. I'm going to have to force Easter on a lot of people, though.
I like that. That's good. Yeah.
So, yeah, this time goes below Rob Collings who edits this.
He puts them in if you want to jump to anything in particular.
It does a darn fine job. That's right.
I bet he met the devil at a crossroads and the devil said,
you're doing a great job, doing a great job. And do you want to be even better at putting
in time codes? Well, I don't think he needs to. I don't think you need to make that deal
Collin. Don't do it. Don't do it. The gain will be marginal the best. You're at like
99.9% of putting in time codes. I wouldn't exactly sell anything for you know, for that
remaining point. God damn thing. 1%. So next week, we're going to talk about Until Dawn.
I'm going to talk a little bit about Daredevil this week.
There's just a lot of stuff happening.
Sometimes we miss things and they get pushed back.
Oh, speaking of video game adaptations into movies.
We recorded a little something with a couple of folks.
That's right.
A couple of fine folks from the Americas.
Some of them were from the Americas.
Most of them were from Australia.
Most of them were Australian.
But some are Australian and live in America. It was crazy. We didn't know what was happening. From the Americas? Some of them were from the Americas. Most of them were from Australia. Most of them were Australian.
But some are Australian and live in America.
It was crazy.
We didn't know what was happening.
Yeah, that's right.
We're on the Joe Rogan experience.
And we made him talk about video game movies.
That's right.
It's not going to be out this week,
but we're going on the Friends Per Second podcast.
It's going to be in the next week,
because it comes out every two weeks.
But we'll remind everybody next week when it's coming out,
and the week after.
That's right.
And then every week
until yeah I'll cross buns come back if we don't make this the most watched
video on their channel we'll be very embarrassed yeah exactly you know and
they said they'd be mad I said they'd be mad and they wouldn't have us back
that's fair enough I think so too Mason trailers are all right starting here are
we okay the fantastic four first steps got a brand new trailer. Fantastic Four Steps! Four Steps!
Well, speaking of First Steps, it looks like they're doing the origin at the start of a talk show.
They appear in a talk show in this... So they're in it...
Is that Mark Gatiss?
Yes, from British Mark Gatiss.
British Mark Gatiss.
Being American Mark Gatiss.
He's Mycroft Holmes.
He is Mycroft Holmes.
And he co-created that show?
Mycroft Holmes.
No, he created Sherlock.
No, Sherlock was invented by Arthur Conan Doyle Mason.
I think you're fine.
You might be thinking of Get Smart.
I am thinking of Get Smart.
Or Inspector Gadget.
Yes, that's right.
So that wasn't Russell T. Davis or Steven Moffat or whatever who did Sherlock?
No, I think maybe they co-created it.
Let's find out.
He co-created television shows with Steven Moffat
He's won a Peabody Award. Oh, yeah. Yeah, that's right. Probably for his role in Fantastic Four first steps. Being American. That's right
Yeah, that's cool, man
So yeah, they they they're skipping over the origin because of this. Oh, yeah
So it's set in an alternate Marvel universe where it's the 60s
But it's a futuristic retro cool the 60s because the fantastic four are so cool and they give me the technologies though
I think it is the 60s. I think they're actually doing that. Yeah, okay, but it is retro cool
It's retro cool and it's this idealized version of the retro future past present
It's like if the Stark Expo any of that actually worked
Yeah
Which it didn't which it didn't and then any of the stuff that did work, he used to put in missiles and shoot at people.
Yeah, he did that, didn't he?
Yeah. And then he stopped doing it, but he mostly, he did it personally, as opposed to outsourcing it to others.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. And Howard Stark would have done that had he had the technology at the time.
Yeah, I think he would have, yeah.
Said, this is my legacy, Tony, for you to kill a bunch of people.
Yeah. Anyway, this is the universe where those guys didn't exist and therefore it's a utopia.
So yeah, they break down, so they're celebrities, they break down their appearance or how they
got where they are.
It seems like they're going on a talk show and they're just like, yeah, they've got the
powers, they went to space, they're fantastic.
Everyone's got a brother, look at this.
You know?
Yeah.
Yeah.
Visible woman is pregnant,
which we heard leaks of, rumors of as well.
That's true, yeah.
Some claimed it in previous trailers,
they'd edited her out, her pregnancy.
Some people were like, she's walking like she's pregnant.
Yeah, okay.
Do you think she'd do invisible belly to do that?
Could she make that?
Yet more unrealistic beauty standards for women.
I agree.
I'm an ally and I'm with you that's right so who you're also an ally
Yeah, I like to allies here
I'm wondering if they're gonna do because the readers who have two kids in the comics a Franklin and I have Valeria
Do we think they're gonna have twins because that would speed up the process wouldn't it?
Yeah, get it up the narrative process get it done. Just knock out two kids immediately, you know what I mean? What did Valeria do again?
She is, she's very closely allied with Dr. Doom.
Oh no!
So she's kind of like,
I don't know what her powers are though.
That's what I was asking.
I think she's just smart, I don't know.
Yeah.
I mean I'm smart, doesn't mean anything.
No, I mean come on man.
I'm an ally.
But I mean, Franklin Richards is a mutant,
and he has sort of-
Everything powers.
Well, yeah, depending on the era, he's got like very significant reality altering abilities
kind of thing.
Yes.
Like there's a famous issue where he and his sister are being pursued by a villain and
he's dressed as like a little cowboy with a little cowboy fake gun.
And the last moment he turns his cowboy gun into a real gun.
Yeah, nice.
Just something he can do. That's cool, man
Yeah, so apparently yes, she's very smart doesn't have any abilities so you like but she's very smart and that's cool
Originally von doom was her name. So yeah, yeah, probably something going on there
I can maybe probably my probably maybe maybe they'll skip to all of that. Well speaking of we don't see any dr
Doom in there. No, that's true. We do. We do. Did you see that that apparent leaked image of Dr. Doom?
There's no, I'll tell you what.
Well, I mean, it can't be because he's in a full suit.
Yeah. Like that's that if that if they're not doing a full suit anymore,
they're doing dots.
They do Robert Downey Jr.
shows up in regular.
I love it. If it's a concept out, I suppose.
Yeah, I don't know. No.
I mean, people said is this Mark Hamill?
Because also Robert Downey Jr. apparently had a big art, I suppose. Yeah. I don't know. No. I mean, people said, is this Mark Hamill? Because also Robert Downey Jr.
apparently had a big birthday bash and the-
He's got a haircut.
He's got a sort of a swoopy-doop haircut.
Yeah.
Real swoopy-doop.
Yeah, that's pretty good.
And people are like, well, that's on the invitation.
And people are like, is that what Dr. Doom's going to look like?
I mean-
How's that going to fit in the helmet?
Great question.
Is he going to have a swoopy-doop?
If it is real, and I agree with you, I don't think it is, I think maybe for a lot of the
movie, because they're paying so much for him, they will have armor, no helmet.
Yes, absolutely.
Or some other kind of, he'll become Doom at the end.
He's like, no, I'm Doomsday.
But not like DC Comics.
Not exactly.
Like Marvel Comics, they'll say.
Yes.
Yeah.
What else is, oh, we finally get to see what Reed Richards' stretching looks like.
Looks pretty good.
I don't mind it.
Yeah, it's not bad.
It's never been done great.
Cause I saw an interview with Pedro Pascal where he said-
Octopus stuff.
He based it on the noble octopus.
I don't think he said the noble octopus, but we know they are.
He said the brilliance of an octopus.
Oh, the brilliance of the noble octopus.
But then he said not in any literal physical translated way, but I put it in my subconscious.
So it's acting.
Okay. Yeah. So he's sort of- Pretending to be an of pretending he's got the subconscious of an octopus in his head now.
So whenever you see him on hot ones or you know, yeah, on the red carpet or whatever,
just know he's got the subconscious of an octopus now and he can't get rid of it. Whenever he's in
a fish tank just know he's that's right. The octopus. Whenever you're in a Chinese restaurant,
you get to pick out something from that big tank. Yeah. Just know if you pick out Pedro Pascale, that's cruel actually. Chuck him in the boiling water.
Leave him in there.
Leave him in there. Or purchase him and let him go free.
Let him free, yeah.
Throw him out in the street. Throw him down the drain. What else? I mean a lot of stuff
in this trailer. We got Ben Grimm.
Pulling a big tanker. And well he's pulling a big tanker, which which is incredible
you know have a look at that in slow-mo or like you had a good look at that because it gets a
CGI character interacting with presumably CGI water and yeah a real model of a ship or whatever like that's just showing off
That's like avatar to apparently a lot of this is practical a lot of model work like Galactus is a lot of guy in suit stuff
Okay, alright.
So I think they're using or they're saying they're using kind of like.
I would love that if Galactus was just guy in suit.
Yeah.
You know what?
You know I would love that guy in suit and then a cardboard city.
I would love that so much.
Oh, Mason, you're gonna love it.
We see his big foot.
We do see his big foot.
Yeah, but is he big enough to eat a planet?
He's probably got a big ship and whatever.
He's got a big ship and like his size for people who are gonna, but there are some people who
are gonna complain about this trailer no matter what.
He's really a projection really.
Yeah, he doesn't look like that.
Because you can't comprehend him so it's just kind of what he appears like.
Sometimes he's a cloud.
Yeah, sometimes he's a cloud.
But we also see Ben Grimm lifting up a little green Volkswagen.
A lot of people have compared that to the first appearance of Superman on the first
action comics where he's, you know, hurling that.
Subtle dig at James Gunn and Zack Snyder.
I think so, yeah.
Which I don't like.
I don't like it at all.
Yeah.
I also see this version of Silver Surfer, Charla Bell.
Yeah, who's...
Julia Garner.
Yeah, but there'll be... that's this universe.
I know people having a cry about this female silver.
Well, here's the thing. Well, I think people are having a cry about this.
Yeah, because it's working. Yeah. What if Black Panther was white? What do you think?
Oh, that's a really good point. Actually, white chicks. You ever seen it?
Could they? Yeah. I think they're going to make a sequel.
They're going to like watching this trailer.
Instantly, like within five seconds, you're like, oh, I see why they've
done this. They haven't done it for equality reasons or whatever. It's because they need
to have a love interest for Johnny Storm. That's what this is. And if I had to put money
on it, I would say at the end of the movie, Johnny Storm has to make the choice of not
pushing the button and Galactus destroys the universe or he does push the button and the
world is saved but...
He can't get a big kiss.
He can't get a big kiss from the Silver Surfer and that's what happens.
I'd choose the kiss.
Yeah I know you would because you're a low dirty guy.
I'm an ally!
Yeah because that's true actually.
Yeah that's what it is.
Yeah.
That's what it is because they can't because the read and sue romance is set in stone.
They've got a kid now.
Yeah.
I assume is there an Alicia master's character for Ben Grimm?
Maybe.
But they need, they need a hot romance.
They need a, they need a captain America agent card or they need a
pepper pots, Tony Stark, whatever.
He followed her into space in the trailer and he was like, and then his
fire went out, but not the fire in his heart.
That's so true.
Isn't it?
His heart is on fire.
That's bad.
Yeah.
Yeah.
She put it out.
Yeah. Yeah. Big bucket of water. I know he mentioned making Johnny Storm more modern
and some people didn't like that because he's like, well, maybe it doesn't play as well
to just make him like he was in the early 2000s. Just nothing really beyond a, and that's
not strictly true. Yeah. Just like a guy who likes snowboarding and chicks. But I don't
know. I got that kind of the cocksure kind of attitude from some of this. Maybe this will be bad. I don't know. I'm not,
I gotta say this got me more excited than I have been for it. Yeah. But yeah, well, I guess we'll
see. I also like when the press was like, Hey, Reid, are we going to get out of this? And he's
like, I don't know. Yeah. Why'd you ask me? Well, you're the guy, man. Oh, yeah. I don't want to be the guy. Well, you are. You made yourself the guy. Neither guy. Wow. Yeah. Why'd you ask me? Yeah. Well, you're the guy man. Oh, yeah. I don't want to be the guy
Well, you are you made yourself the guy neither guy. Wow. Yeah shouldn't have given myself the subconscious of an octopus
I feel guilty like octopuses do all the time. Do they maybe now they gotta get over it man
Yeah, you know, let some of that shit go
Mason go on. Hello, July 25th be there in cinemas. Well, yep, can I come with you?
I'm an ally. Okay, then yes.
Absolutely.
That opens a lot of doors.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
You could say that didn't go anywhere.
It's great.
Mason, we also got a new trailer for 28 Years Later.
The second sequel to 28 Days Later.
Correct, yes.
I don't know if you saw this, but Alex Garland, who had a new movie out, Warfare.
Warfare, yep.
So he- That has uh what's his
face? Yeah. The guy Johnny Stone. Johnny Stone. Joseph Quinn. That guy and it's got um he just
basically talks about every movie he's ever written on or I didn't I forgot this but he wrote The
Beach the book uh-huh and then it got adapted into the movie and him Danny Boyle and they did a bunch
of collaboration together including the movie Sunshine. And that All Saints song. All Saints
song correct. Um. Is that the the song about the beach? Yeah.
I'm not gonna do it. Yeah. Yeah.
So yeah, anyway, so he's talking about 28 days later and how that came about.
I can't remember what it's somewhere on YouTube.
Just type in Alex Garland movies. It'll maybe I'll do it now for everybody.
That's great. Um, but I also learned that he,
apparently he sort
of co-directed Dread in a way. Yeah. Which was the long standing rumor I think. Because
it sort of clashed with the actual director and then. Yeah. But in hindsight he was like
that guy went through a lot of stuff. Right. Which isn't fair for him. A lot of flaws.
Yeah. He said by the time he got to Ex Machina and they were like what an amazing directorial
debut and he's like I what an amazing directorial debut.
And he's like, I've been directing,
I've been doing stuff.
I've been in the trenches.
Yeah, man.
I've been copping grenades.
It's a GQ, it says Alex Garland breaks down
some of his most iconic films.
Oh, and that's not it, cause that's only,
oh no, that's 41 minutes, that's good.
That is good.
That's what you want, Mason.
Anyway, you were saying the first one,
it was the idea behind zombies making,
cause he, Fast and Zombies, they did it before,
Zack Snyder, he felt like that hadn't been one for a while. And then on the next one,
because there's a 28 weeks later, he's like, I don't know, it just felt more like they're
making it because and that's I think 28 weeks later is an okay film. I don't think it's
great. He was like, it's kind of like, it's a sequel, you know, they kind of wanted it
more than it came organically. And this one, which Danny Boyle is directing, but he's written is, um, fuel.
He says he's excited for it.
Well, he would be because it is coming out.
That's true.
Anyway, all British people living on a little island with a bridge.
Yes.
And every now and then they have to go out and, um, I don't know, collect some
fruit or whatever they do.
Sure.
Absolutely.
And it's got, uh, cause I've got to make a Blum on.
Yeah.
It's got not Morbius.
It's got Craven.
Craven.
It does.
Yeah, that's right.
It would, he has a name.
Yeah. I feel like Aaron Taylor Johnson. I shan'tius, it's got Craven. It sure does, yeah that's right. He has a name. Yeah, I feel like Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
I shan't be repeating it here.
Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
He's good for, he should, he's due for a good one.
I think so too, yeah.
And this looks like it could very well be it.
Yeah, I didn't, I mean nobody liked Craven.
And I didn't think he was good in it, but I don't know whether that's anything to do
with him or did the whole package just blow.
Did you think he was good in Nosferatu?
I think he's pretty good in Nosferatu.
Gordesa!
This does a lot of that stuff.
I think you need one of those guys in that sort of movie.
So I think he's not due.
Oh, he's already done one?
Yeah, I think he did a good one.
This could be a bad one then.
This could be a bad one.
It's fine.
There's no skin off my nose.
Okay, great.
If it's a bad one, because he already had a good one.
So he's not due for a good one in my opinion.
Apparently Killian Murphy is like in this this but not this isn't his movie
And the next one will be more focused on his character. Who's those people haven't seen it. We did a movie commentary actually on it
He's the scarecrow is that scarecrow? That's right
He's Batman's the scarecrow. So yeah, because they're in 20 weeks later. I can't remember no, okay
Anyway good for him for surviving 28 years.
Yeah, I know, right?
That must be hard.
Anyway.
I mean, all these people did.
Yeah.
This has a touch of the Mad Max's to it.
You know, it's got a real cult.
There's some cult situations going on.
The priest is like, I love reckoning.
I love, I'm getting murdered by zombies, but that's good for me, actually.
Come on, man.
Come on, man.
It's got Jodie Comer as well, and Rafe Fiennes.
Great.
Is that what he got?
No, he got ripped for that version of The Odyssey, didn't he?
Yeah.
I think he's remained quiet. for me actually. Come on man. It's got Jodie Comer as well, Rafe Fiennes. Great. No, he got ripped for
that version of the Odyssey, didn't he? I think he's remained quite ripped though. I hope he's
remained ripped. Me too. Once you got it, you gotta keep it. Never back down. That's my motto.
I hope he's got a persona called remain ripped. Yeah. And he's, you know, just ripped. So this is
interesting. So next to this 28- That's his wrestling character. Is it? Yeah, remain ripped. So this is interesting. So next to this 28. He's wrestling character. Is it yeah remain ripped damn. Yeah. Hello
Gone, that's all he's got. That's his catchphrase. Well, hello. Well, I mean who else has that catchphrase nobody
It's not even like it's crisp and it's precise
I guess it is if you say it in the way you you say it with a gravitas that remain ripped slash Rafe fine
It's tight. I
Can't believe you remember that nickname.
I know you said it, but it just went from my mind.
You could have put a gun in my head, I couldn't remember that.
Well watch it disappear from my mind by the end of the episode.
Or I never forget it and it pushes out something else more valuable.
So next year at the same time, so this is coming out.
My mum's birthday coming up.
Congratulations.
And she was born on Romaine Ript.
Oh no! Oh no!
Oh no!
I missed it.
Did you though?
Sorry mate.
Okay.
20th of June this comes out and next year we're getting 28 years later The Bone Temple and
that is written by Alex Garland but it's directed by Nia da Costa.
Oh she did the marvels.
She did the marvels and recently she came out and she's like, I don't know, man.
Yeah, Marvel, you know?
Yeah.
At this point, you could just go Marvel and they go, yeah.
Yeah, I haven't watched it, but she did the Candyman reboot,
which is apparently good.
So yeah, I, yeah, that's 28 days all the time.
So these were shot back to back.
And I think that one's more Killian Murphy,
centric and heavy.
Centric and heavy.
Speaking of horror though, Mason, bloody look outside.
I'm just having a quick look at this trailer.
Bloody look outside if you want to see some of the horror.
Let me ask you this, before we move on.
The 28 Days Later universe, is everywhere else fine?
I don't know. I know he said the initial idea of this one,
and I don't know whether it's in this movie, is one of the ideas was
it was going to be subtitled and it was going to be Chinese special forces coming into the UK.
Oh, to finally figure out what's going on.
I think that would have been incredible.
Maybe there's a bit of that in this.
We do have some special forces.
Maybe there. I wonder if they're like, we can't, you know, there's a.
That'd be a hell of a movie, man.
Yeah. Yeah. But I suspect that is probably something along the lines of like.
That won't make any money. Don't do it.
I suspect that is probably something along the lines of like that way make any money don't do it Yeah, maybe but also I think probably the idea behind this it might be something along the lines of
Shortly after 28 months later. They walled off as much of the you know the yeah as they could I mean it is also
It's an island except for that tunnel that goes under the France a tunnel
Yes, a tunnel and that happens that actually it's addressed in the second one
Oh, so yeah, but I don't know whether that ties into this, etc.
Maybe France is gone.
Maybe France is gone.
France is in an island so they could spread out through Europe.
That's so true.
God Europe, why is it all connected?
Stop doing that.
Yeah, God.
Be on a big hot island like us.
Yeah, at least most of them have the same money or whatever.
Otherwise the pain in the arse to get around.
That's true.
I'm changing this into Franks.
What am I even doing?
Ridiculous.
Fuck it. Lira. Yeah, just have a few pineapples like us. Have a few pineapples in the skyrocket,
you know what I mean? Hell yeah, brother. That's right. Him. This is a Jordan Peele produced movie.
And directed by a different guy. A different guy. I should look that up actually. Let's not be rude.
But it's about a, it's maybe a sort of a, a it's a it's a fella meets the devil kind of situations
He's a Justin tipping Justin tipping as the director and and this is about a
Young man who's an aspiring sort of he wants to do big football. He's a college athlete
He's a big college football guy and he's like and it's like what would you do?
What would you do to become the best of the best and he and he encounters what I think is meant to be a legendary
Football player, but it's perhaps the devil in disguise.
Or maybe Marlon Wayans. It's Marlon Wayans. Or maybe he's already made that deal.
Maybe it's Marlon Wayans from Whitechicks.
That's right.
Was he in Whitechicks?
Yes.
Was he?
It was him and his brother.
Damon Wayans.
Yeah.
Okay, great.
Do you want to check that?
No, it's illegal now.
Well, I've already done it.
It's illegal to check it.
Yeah, it's him and, no, it's him and Sean Wayne, sorry. Okay, there you go.
Yeah, there you go.
I didn't think it was that.
And Terry Crews.
Oh.
And Busy Phillips.
Oh.
Oh.
He's got a lot on that Busy Phillips.
Yes.
Thanks for the name.
Yes, absolutely.
Thank you.
Now, but, but, but he's...
Sacrifice yourself to a demon and be good at football.
You've been brought in a weird realm where weird stuff's happening.
Mostly football drills it seems, but really violent football drills.
Don't think there's anything that I'm passionate about
that I would sacrifice myself to the devil or sell this.
It's a big week for that isn't it?
Biggest podcasting.
That's true.
Time codes?
Time codes.
Oh I got a guy.
Yeah but you could be better than him.
Why would I want to be better than him? You just could be. Yeah, but I don't want to be jealous. Maybe. Yeah, that's what I thought
I guess I would sign that. Yeah, better at him and then not use it. Yeah, but just so he knows that I'm better
I don't have to worry about because I already got that thing from earlier. Oh, yeah, whatever it was. Guitar. Oh, yeah
God damn I'm good at that. Guitar hero. Yeah
19th of September. Pretty good. And then James Gunn said this week Look, there's not gonna be a Superman trailer for a while. You're a Guitar Hero. 19th of September. Pretty good.
And then James Gunn said this week, look, there's not going to be a Superman trailer
for a while.
You just bloody got one.
Yeah.
But little, he tricked us.
You greedy little piggies.
That's what he said because we actually got a Superman featurette, which was a look behind
the scenes at the upcoming movie.
That's right.
July 11th, 2025.
Yeah.
A lot of practical stuff, which I suspected from the trailer, but we see like the the robots in the fortress of solitude. They're built for real. They're actually out in the snow
Yeah, no scenes. I've been in the style that Norway Norway. No way
But yes. Yes, something like that. We see metamorphose. That's a real costume situation. The cape is mostly practical
Yeah, and it's got the s on the back
Yeah, then that you know, there's always the possibility you take the cellophane off.
Do a cellophane throw.
It's true.
This trailer does three things.
It says James Gunn 40 times.
Correct, yes.
You see James Gunn about that number of times.
It's true.
And he's pointing.
And he goes.
But he's making bold choices.
Yep.
I'm making bold creative decisions, he says.
Yeah, that's right. They also emphasize that this is a new universe.
They keep saying new universe.
James Gunn keeps saying, hold fast true believers.
That's right.
That's right.
I can say this because he's dead now.
He's dead.
I can do it.
That's mine now.
It's mine.
I took it from him.
For this new universe.
Yeah.
And it's basically like, you know how everything sucks?
Yeah.
Well, this movie's good. That's right. And it's about a nice man. Yeah tell you what I'm I'm I'm more and more in favor of this Superman costume as it goes
Yeah, you see the emotion when you see I was never against it
Yeah, but he's doing a bit of a I was never against an ally. Oh, yeah
I know yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, so would you say moving and shaking in it?
Yeah, yeah, but you see you see David current sweat and Nicholas Holt just buddying about which looks fun
Yeah, you know, I think they're I think they're you know, relationships gonna be good in this
I'm sad that they're not enemies in real life me too. Yeah, so, you know, yeah, that's fine. I guess it's fine
I guess good. Yeah, just yeah really looking forward to it a lot of that
Just looks really good and just the look of the daily planet and there's a moment there's sitting in a little ship at the
end which I assume is one of the... it doesn't look Kryptonian it looks like it's um
what are they called? It looks like the Fantastic Four ship. Yeah. And he's like I'm gonna
crash this and ruin their movie. I'm gonna kill that guy from the bear I
don't even know his name I don't even care. Shhh it's me James Gunn shhh I'm on the set of
the Fantastic Four I'm gonna burn this place to Gunn. I'm on the set of the Fantastic Four. I'm gonna burn this
place to the ground. I'm making bold creative choices. One of which is to burn
down the Fantastic Four sets. I think it's the Justice League. New Universe. More like only
universe left. Well come on mate. It'd be the Justice League something. Whatever the first Justice League is.
Yeah it could be a Lord Tick. A ship. Agreed. Again July 11th has
mentioned. I hope it's really good. Me too. But I. Agreed. Again, July 11th as mentioned.
Hope it's really good.
Me too.
But I don't know.
I mean, how could you know?
I don't.
Nice.
Star Wars news, Mason.
Not just any Star Wars news though, a bunch of Star Wars news.
That's all.
It's Star Wars Celebration Japan time.
And you're going to like it.
It's time for a bunch of flights of fantasy, of imaginary series and things that will never come out.
Some of this is coming out.
Just them spinning a wheel and it's like, it's just a wheel with all this, it's got
like animated series, comic book, movie, video game, whatever on one wheel and then it's
got every character in the Star Wars universe in the second one and you spin them together
and you go, oh Darth Maul animated series?
Yeah, but yeah, we're definitely gonna do that.
And there's another wheel that most of the,
well, there's one option that says yeah,
and the rest of them just say bin.
Nice, nice.
So it should be good.
Anyway, it's in Japan, it's happening as we're recording,
so we might miss some stuff.
So I know there's some,
might be some video game announcements and whatever.
They did, they showed that squad-based tactical
XCOM kind of game they announced that, there's going to be more of that.
Okay, but don't worry if we miss something, remember it's not going to come out.
Yeah, we don't care.
Especially if it's a movie.
They spun the wheel.
You know what, this one might be the one because they've attached-
Which one?
This one, the Sean Levy Ryan Golding one.
Let's start with that then.
Okay, this is the big one.
I mean, apparently it is going to film.
It's called Star Wars Starfighter.
This is not to be confused with Patty Jenkins's
Star Wars Top Gun movie, which isn't coming out.
That's right.
Which they announced with a big video six years ago.
Patty Jenkins was in that fighter jet and whatever.
I'm gonna make Top Gun.
Yeah, yeah.
I'm gonna strafe this small town.
Yeah, with a real plane, not a Star Wars plane. No, no, no, it was a real one. Yeah
James Gunn told me to
so
That's not happening
And also I think she was like I'm gonna and then Wonder Woman 2 came out and also she was like I'm gonna make Top Gun
And then Top Gun 2 came out was like well, that's kind of that's kind of the one is it Patty Jenkins?
You're obsessed with Top Gun related stuff. Get over it. I think her dad was a Top Gun 2 came out and was like well, that's kind of that's kind of the one is it Patty Jenkins? You're obsessed with top. Yeah, get over it related stuff. Get over it. I think a dab was a top gun though
There you go. Anyway, this is from as you mentioned director Sean Levy who did Deadpool versus Wolverine. He did free guy
That's a frickin lightsaber man. So, you know, he's ready for this. That's right
He did my dad's in Star Wars and also that's me on Star Wars and the Google boys and the Google boys
Yeah, so TV probably yeah. And some TV probably?
Yeah, yeah, something probably.
Okay.
But of course he did a billion dollar movie in Deadpool vs. Wolverine.
That's right.
And you know, he loves IP it seems.
But you remember my dad's in Star Wars and this is Star Wars and that's a freaking lightsaber
man.
Ryan Reynolds and he went from the future but he was himself.
Yeah, yeah.
But sometimes people are tired of Ryan Reynolds so you get a guy who's kind of like Ryan Reynolds. Yeah in the form of Ryan Gosling Ryan Gosling. That's right
He's gonna star in this and this is set five years after the return of the Jedi. Sorry
This is that your five years after the rise of Skywalker. What? Yeah, what that's right
We're moving forward in the timeline like that before the ray trilogy, which is definitely coming out also. That's canceled
No, it's real and it's not canceled. You know he's cancelled you. Good finally. Cancelled from Star Wars? No it says
one thing you have to commit to is Star Wars. I wanted to opt out of Star Wars. You can't opt
out of Star Wars. Have you tried to cancel Disney Plus? No. Yeah exactly because you can't. Don't
bother. They said, he said this is a standalone it's not a prequel. Oh. It's not a sequel. Okay.
Well, it's kind of a sequel.
Is it a squeak wall?
Yes.
It's Ryan Gosling and three plucky little alien furry
little creatures and they're all in his cockpit.
Yeah.
And he's like, get out of here.
Get off me.
And they're like, we can't, we're in space, Dave.
His name's Dave Starfighter.
Cause it's like Luke Skywalker,
then you do your regular name and then it's space name.
Yeah, and then it's space name. Yeah, great.
We can't get out of here, we'll die.
And you'll also die, cause you're regular.
I don't care.
Unless you can, can you breathe in space?
Cause they did it one time.
Dave Starfighter.
Remember they did it on an asteroid or whatever?
No, yeah, and Pritha Slade did it, she flew through space.
She had the Force, well speaking of, maybe he's got the Force.
It's a new adventure, it's set in a period of time that we haven't seen yet explored.
Five years after a previous thing.
God, I can't wait to see the second First Order.
I'm excited.
So this is from Daniel Richmond.
Pretty good.
Yeah, that's right.
He said, the pair embark on some kind of mission while being pursued by two villains, one male,
one female.
So it's a Padawan.
It's a pair.
So he's a Jedi, which might mean he's a disciple of Luke Skywalker.
Oh, hell yeah.
Because he, all these men died or whatever. Remember what happened to Luke Skywalker's mates? They all died.
Because he had a little fortress and Kylo Ren
killed them all or whatever.
Is that in a dream sequence?
No, it happened in the movies. Remember Kylo Ren killed all these, burnt down the Jedi Temple?
I remember the burning down of the Jedi Temple. I just didn't know there were any guys in there.
No, he wasn't upset because the building burnt down. Oh interesting
All my knickknacks yeah
My knickknacks I collected all my wooden books right which is what they do in Star Wars. All my wooden books and holocrons
The Padawans mother also plays an important role in the story.
And there's another major female character as well.
Brownlee is going to have a single...
You're flying pretty close to the sun there Disney.
Not wrong Mason.
More than one female character.
I mean you said to me finally a Star Wars for men.
That's what you said.
I did say that.
For a white man.
Yeah that's right.
It's got a significantly smaller budget and a more constrained story.
So I know they say it's a standalone.
We'll see.
We will see.
Depending on how well this comes out.
Maybe the original script, maybe the original concept is a standalone.
But once those bloody, once bloody Kathleen Kennedy gets her claws in my god. I mean, yeah
Let's put some let's put some Luke Skywalker in there. Let's put some Harrison Ford in there. He'll be back. No, he's dead
Yeah, no, but Harrison Ford still and no we dead in real life. I'm calling it now
I reckon it's gonna happen before this episode comes out
Yeah, I was just looking if Ryan Gosling has ever done a sequel and I don't know if he has
There's the Grey Man a sequel to anything. Is there a better movie than The Grey Man that came before The Grey Man? I mean there is but it's not set in the same
universe. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You're thinking of Kramer versus Kramer. The only thing I can think
of is he did that Papyrus avatar sketch twice. He did, that's true, yeah. So I guess technically
he does do sequels to some of his Saturday night And he works with the drive director on another movie, but then aren't there only God only God
I mean God let us let us chop your hands off. Chop your hands off. I wasn't gonna spoil it
If you haven't seen that movie by now, yeah, you don't even know what it is. Yeah, don't worry about it
Yeah, what's that guy's name right? Oh Nicholas Winding. Are you windings? Yep, yep, absolutely. I knew he had a funny name.
You did. What's interesting about this is, well, a number of things.
First of all, Star Wars. Second of all, the game comes out May 28th of 2027.
In that month, on May 7th, is when Avengers Secret Wars comes out.
So this is off the back of that.
Which could be good or bad, depending on how either of these go.
So they're setting up a Star Wars to run against a Secret Wars?
I mean three weeks after, but yeah, basically. Yeah, you gotta get out there.
So true, isn't it?
So true, Mason. I think this one is happening because it's...
That could be the slogan for the movie as well. Star Wars Starfighter, you gotta get out there.
I think they said it's filming in fall in the US, so, you know.
Get me off of this crazy
thing. Hey Dave. They're all in his cockpit. They're all in his cockpit. Hey Dave Starfighter.
We gotta get to the Jedi temple. Because you're friends with Luke Skywalker and you're his son.
Agreed? Yep. And it's father's day. It's Star Wars father's life day. That's right. Now here's
something that's even more coming out.
Mm-hmm.
It's called The Mandalorian vs. Grogu.
That is coming out.
That's May 22nd of next year.
Okay.
There is a leaked trailer which you can find online.
That's right.
Some of us watched it.
If you're a pirate.
Yeah, if you're a pirate, which I'm not, but we watched it.
You scum of the earth.
We had to watch it.
I had to do it for...
For our jobs.
Exactly.
We didn't want to.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
Can the coal miner refuse to mind the coal all right?
I got no we cannot merely a cog in the means of production. That's so true isn't it?
I said we got to seize that means of production. I'm tired. I got it
Put that down. No you picked up the podcast like everybody did don't touch that fun little visual gang there
For the rest of the episode my my audio is just going to be like...
That's seizing the means of production, man.
I think so too.
So it opens with the Mandalorian and Groglet.
They're storming and...
No, no, no, no, James.
It doesn't start with that.
It starts with a number of stormtroopers in some sort of structure.
Room or something.
They're in there.
They're on high alert.
There's all the stormtroopers you like, there's regular storm troopers.
There's snow storm troopers. There's storm troopers with the snow mask thing.
There's other guys.
There's a guy and he's just got the dark helmet helmet and he's like,
secure your positions.
Yeah. You know, that guy's there.
A guy comes in who...
No, no, no, no, James, you're ahead of us here.
Then there's a door there. Yeah.
And you're like, who's in there? Well, I mean, I would assume nobody. Then there's a door there. Yeah, and you're like who's in there
Well, I mean I would assume nobody I would assume they'd pan to the door and then pan back to the men
And they don't but then the bloody door comes open and who would who's there the Mandalorian and he can't be shot
He's got that indestructible armor on which really
Saps some of the tension from the scene because he does a sort of a corridor walk
Yeah, you know it was it's an interesting shot idea because you sort of pan all the
way through. You pan all the way through the stormtroopers and then the door blasts open
and you pan all the way back with Mandalorian cutting a swath. But again, it would seem
more dangerous if he didn't have that indestructible, whatever armor it is that he has.
Beskar. The Beskar armor.
Yeah that's right. And you're like, damn, he's doing some moves. But he could just as
easily not do any moves. Yeah, he wouldn't have to do anything. Yeah barely have to move
And then we see grog let he's swimming around isn't he you see him using the force people are loving it
He's dodging a wheel. I said Goni Weaver isn't loving it. She was like stop trying to do that. Yeah, stop it
She's in this so apparently she's acts as the go-between between him and the New Republic. He's gonna hurt. So I'll give this
I know he's dead. He died before this episode came out. Yeah, I
Is Werner Herzog in this? No, he's dead. He died before this episode came out.
Oh yeah.
Yeah, RIP man.
Is he dead? He's not dead, is he?
The actor?
Yeah.
The actor-director Werner Herzog?
Yeah.
He's alive.
Thank God.
He just released- did you listen to his audiobook?
No.
That's great.
What's it about?
Sad stuff.
Yeah, I was gonna say, how much sad stuff is it about?
What's it called again?
It's gonna grow- oh, it's called...
Hang on, I'll find it for you.
I'm sad, stop looking at me.
No, I've mentioned's called, hang on, I'll find it for you. I'm sad.
Stop looking at me.
No, I've mentioned it before.
Hang on.
It's called, his autobiography is called Every Man for Himself and God Against All.
That's brilliant.
I love that.
That's what it's called.
Yeah.
Here's a quote from him.
It's a wrestling heel for a while.
It's a notable quote.
Did you know that?
His what?
It was a wrestling heel for a while.
I believe that.
Like a local wrestling troop.
That's incredible. Here's a quote from him. This is Google AI. It's called sad, Verna. Wow.
Civilization is like a thin layer of ice upon a deep ocean of chaos and darkness.
Classic.
Now do it in a Verna hood suck voice.
Hey boys!
Civilization?
It's like a thin layer of ice.
Civilization!
What is it again?
Give me the line.
Civilization is like a thin layer of ice upon a deep ocean of chaos and darkness.
Civilization! I can't, I don't have to read it.
Yeah. Do you want to read it?
Yeah, I'll read it.
Civilization is like a thin layer of ice upon a deep ocean of chaos and darkness.
Chapter one by me, Werner Herzog.
Well, it says you have to outsmart it, to outgut it, to outnumber it, to outfilm them.
And then that's what you have to do. OK. I don outgout it, to outnumber it, to outfilm them.
And then that's what you have to do.
Okay.
I don't know.
Those are different quotes though.
Yeah.
Great.
We see the Razor Crest, which is back.
It's been rebuilt.
Which is good because like, I don't think rebuilt.
He probably just got a new one.
Oh yeah.
I didn't like that little star should be had.
How does he go to the toilet?
And the Razor Crest is all toilets.
Mostly toilets.
We saw it in the first episode of The Mandalorian.
It's got a toilet in it
We've also got Jabba the muscles in this. Mm-hmm. You say that so this is Jeremy Allen white
Yeah, his name does he say anything or does just go?
What's his name the bear or something no come fucking remember, but yeah, he's in the comics and stuff
He's a he looks like he's in an arena. Uh-huh. Um. I was hoping for a tight white t-shirt, but you can't
have everything. You really can't. Yeah, look, if we didn't have that season, that last one,
but also some of that in the Book of Boba Fett where they resolved a bunch of stuff.
Honestly, it looks fun. If they'd just done, and obviously they can't do this because the
Saiwa's machine has to keep rolling forever, but if they just did the first season of The Mandalorian, which was fun cowboy stuff,
you know, a traveling cowboy and he goes to a different town every week and he solves some problems,
and then there was a bit of nothing, and then this trailer hit and you're like, who's behind the door?
It's the Mandalorian. You'll everybody like, ah!
You poop your pants. Like you're in a Star Wars ship without a toilet.
Exactly.
But because there was just, just they had to put Luke Skywalker in it and they had to
connect that all the dots and stuff.
I'm like, I'm not excited.
And it built to Wasoka, the TV series, which they're also really going to talk about in
solid.
Oh, and what's his name's in it?
The gorilla man.
Verna Herzog?
No, Mason.
He died.
What's his name?
Dregs?urgs? No
Chip no fucks his name. He's in rebels. Zab. Zab. Okay, right big Zab
I mean he's been another
Extant expanded universe for lonely cowboy hat stuff. Right. Okay. This is the cowboy hat era of Star Wars
Absolutely it is and you're excited for it
Nope, do you think the Mandalorian will look cool if we wore a cowboy hat over his regular helmet? And it's not a beskar cowboy hat, it's just like a regular cowboy hat. Maybe. Remember how cool
Timothy Oliphant looked? He did. Did he have a cowboy hat though? No, I don't think he did. You think
you know that blue skin guy with the red eyes? Oh yeah. Yeah, he had a cowboy hat, didn't he?
God, he's good to have a cowboy hat. I don know. Look, I'm going to go into this pretending most of the mandalorin doesn't exist.
I don't think that's going to be a problem for you.
No.
So at least one and a half seasons plus the Boba Fett stuff.
Forget that exists and I'll just go into this with the attitude of it's a little lone wolf
and cub little cowboy adventure.
Yep.
I'll enjoy it. So the other thing is there was an announcement of an animated series called Maul's Shadow
World. It's set five years after Return of the Jedi, which is interesting because that's
when he died. He was dead long before that.
That's true.
No, it's set one year after Clone Wars, which would be in the era where Darth Maul builds
up an empire and
robot like we already has those he builds up a underground the Crimson Crimson whatever
he's I don't know that's a different one I think okay he's in solo and he goes yes remember
me he's in the Crimson oh is he the Crimson man Crimson Dawn yeah that's right he's like
look at me holding my lightsaber on this telephone. Yeah. Anyway, it leads up until he gets poor and then Obi-Wan stabs him, which happens in another
Star Wars thing.
Sam Witwer will return as Darth Maul and not Peter Serafinowicz, who played original Darth
Maul's voice.
This is going to be 2026.
More animated stuff.
We're in the cowboy hat era.
Yeah, that is true.
Animated Star Wars, Clone Wars, Rebels, Soka stuff.
So you're excited for this?
No.
Oh, you know Jon Favreau's directing The Mandalorian vs. Groglod?
No, I didn't know that.
Well, now you know.
That's terrific.
Also, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy.
Boo!
You're indifferent.
I am.
Confirmed that six other previously revealed Star Wars films were still going ahead.
Not true.
This includes whatever James Mangold is working on.
It was like a Force Origins Jedi movie.
I guess the Simon Kinberg Rey trilogy.
I guess James Mangold is back in because Indiana Jones failed, but then he did a Complete Unknown
and that was a big hit.
That's true.
So he's back on the nice list.
Yeah.
And you liked Indiana Jones 5.
And you said it was going to be your most anticipated movie of the year.
And I knew I'd been embarrassed when it wasn't.
You're thinking of you.
Even though you knew in your heart it wasn't going to be.
You're thinking of you. You're thinking of you. You're thinking of you.
I never said that.
You said it every week.
You can't prove it.
You said it every week on this podcast.
You're going to have to do a lot of quick editing to remove all your claims.
No, you're not even going to go and look at them.
So I don't know.
Of course I'm not.
She also specifically mentioned Taika Waititi's Star Wars film. And she's like, oh, he's on his own kind of timeline, you're not even going to go and look at them. She also specifically mentioned Taika Waititi's Star Wars film and she's like, oh, he's on
his own kind of timeline.
Let me be clear, Taika Waititi's Star Wars movie and moving on.
That's what she said.
Yes, that's right.
Which of those are going to go ahead?
I think we will see the Rey trilogy.
I don't know whether it's going to be anytime soon, but I think we're eventually going to
get, it's going to say seven, eight, nine.
We did that.
10, 11, 12.
Or it might be a new Jedi Order series or something.
I don't know.
Do you want to keep numbering these?
Do I want to do it?
Yeah.
Or do you want to?
I could do it.
I know you could, but do you think it's good for the brand to be like Star Wars 10?
Not, not absolutely not.
Do you think anybody's excited to see Star Wars 10?
No.
Star Wars Episode 10?
I think people will...
The Rise of the Force power?
I think the next one will be...
The next Star Wars 10 will not have a number on it.
People will informally call it Star Wars 10.
Yeah.
They'll be like, it's the start of a new trilogy or whatever.
But they...
This is a new era for Star Wars.
This is set five years after Return of the Jedi.
They've learned from Mission Impossible and etc.
Don't put a number in it.
You stupid idiots.
You stupid idiots.
I don't know, maybe you leave it long enough and then the people who grew up on the new
trilogy.
I mean that was ten years ago that first one came out, so they're already here.
They're already at your work, Mason.
Maybe then you could...
How excited were people for episode seven?
And you remember it was 10 years ago.
I remember vaguely.
It wasn't last year.
No.
It was 10 years ago.
Wow.
Yeah, wow.
And that's all the Star Wars news we have for now.
You okay with that?
I'm okay with that.
I wish I had more.
Do you want me to quickly check?
I wish you had more too because I could do with a bloody quick nap.
I'll tell you that much mate.
A quick nap in the studio.
You can take a nap.
Nobody's going to mind.
Okay.
I'll just crumple up this energy drink can and use it as a pillow.
Also, I should mention that that Star Wars movie, the Sean Levy one, no, the Mandalorian
one, that is also coming out, that's coming out May 22nd of next year, which is three weeks after Avengers Doomsday.
Yeah, you mentioned that.
Did I? No, I said that for the other one. I said that for Secret Wars.
Oh no, they're doing it twice.
They're both doing it.
Okay.
No more Disney December Star Wars movies, Mason. That's Avatar time.
I guess it is.
That's Avatar time, fellas. Put it away.
I'll put it away, fellas.
Put it away, come on.

Acast powers the world's best podcasts. Here's a show that we recommend.
Hi there, I'm Jeff Merrick.
Now I've covered hockey for over 30 years and pretty much loved it my whole life.
The now, the history, the future, all of it.
And I've seen a lot, but I still find things that surprise and interest me.
And nothing is too trivial.
Right producer Zach Phillips?
That's correct.
From the big stories that shape the game to the tiny things that color it all in, tune
into my show The Sheet, daily at 3pm Eastern.
That's where it all gets discussed as we try to tell you something you didn't know every
single day.
That's our challenge.
The Sheet is available on YouTube on the daily face off channel or wherever you stream your podcasts. It's time for big movie.
Big movie time.
That's right.
Big movie talk about time.
It might just be Mason. Big movie talk about time here. It is here. It is right now sinners
Mmm, just Ryan Coogler's latest movie on a budget of between 900 to 100 million dollars 900 to 100 million dollars. Sorry
No, I did we're going that way. Are we going backwards? You know, man, I don't know bad news up front
This might have cost nine hundred million dollars
Good news might have cost as little as a hundred million dollars. That's probably more likely but look realistically
It's probably somewhere in the middle. That's so true. Isn't it? Uh the box office for this
It's looking like it's gonna have a 45 to 50 US opening. That's pretty good
It's pretty good for an R rated movie and that's also
Conservatively the looking at like the early tracking, it might be a little bit more than that.
Not to brag, but I bought my ticket.
I didn't even check what the rating was.
No?
No?
What's the brag here?
When you said not to brag, if it was a brag, what would that look like?
Didn't even have to worry about whether it was an MA or not.
You didn't have to show your ID.
That's exactly right.
Didn't have to worry about it.
I don't know how you walk around, Mason.
Just in your own body and mind. Oh, yeah
Get great outcome for an R-rated movie, how will it fair the you know, the next few weeks? We don't know you probably pretty well, but I live in the future
I feel like this one will kind of tick along nicely for a while. I don't know that for a fact
But of course, what do you think the story was? Oh, come on, mate
Yeah, this is a bit where you tell us what the story is about, but you can't do too many
spoilers.
Okay.
Like the spoiler that's in the trailer, which I didn't watch.
I thought you did.
No, but I assumed what I thought the spoiler was going to be.
It's yeah, it's what happens.
All right.
So it's set in the 1930s.
Yep.
And there's two brothers, the smokestack twins, smoke and stack.
And you might be like, are they really brothers?
No, it's one man.
In real life. In real life, it's one man is real life in real life
It's both. It's Michael Jordan and Michael C. Jordan. That's correct. Yes
They they were their army boys. Yep, but then they came back from the army
They went up to Chicago to do some honest good entrepreneurship. Yep, but now they're back in their hometown, which I think is Mississippi. Yeah
Which is a small town. That's a small town of Mississippi
And they're they've got they've got a bunch of money and a bunch of booze,
a bunch of illegal booze.
And they're gonna use that money to open up a juke joint.
And everybody's so happy to see them.
Especially all their ex-lovers.
Yeah, they love that.
Who are very mad at them.
And the people they shoot, who they used to know.
That's right.
And some new friends they're gonna shoot.
They're gonna shoot some new people.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. But they's and some new friends. They're gonna shoot gonna shoot some new people. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, but they're they
But they've got a new they're gonna new pal. Yeah, they're a little cousin. Yep
Sammy Sammy and he has he's he's a he's a sharecropper, but he's also he's a he's a guitar playing man
But he's so good and they say legend has it if you're so good at playing it the guitar like me James
As we've established that was foreshadowing earlier wasn't just a coincidence that if you're so good
at playing guitar in somebody's house playing Wonderwall you can summon great evil.
Yeah.
You don't want to do that.
No, it's good.
It's good.
Everyone's like, wow, this is transcending space and time.
Oh yeah, that's true.
But also someone's going to show up who's crook.
Yeah, that's right.
They're like, what's this?
Yeah.
I want to get involved and no spoilers, but that happens because otherwise there wouldn't be a movie. No.
Otherwise it would be called Good Guitar Man. Good Guitar Man. That's right. The movie.
The movie. Yeah. And Grogu. And Grogu versus Grogu. Who's from the past. Yeah. If we can be clear.
That's right. So this is, I mean, this is in the trailers. This is also a vampire movie. Correct.
Which you might forget for a large portion of this movie because it it really it's kind of like two movies
I guess and I think it balances both of those very well. Mm-hmm. Yeah, I saw someone say this is like a
We're going back to a classic sort of 90s genre film. It's there's a bit of from dusk till dawn about this as well
Yeah, because that's a movie about
gangsters and whatnot.
And then all of a sudden there's a snake vampire woman in it.
And the strongest element of this I would say, and this isn't to take away from anything
else, is the music in this is fucking incredible.
The music supervisor is Ludwig Gohansson. Who's done a bunch of other stuff.
He did the Mandalorian theme.
Did he?
Yeah, he did.
Is that the one that goes...
BOOM! BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM You did Tenet. Yep. So you know, he's all over the place. Black Panther movies. You did Oppenheimer.
Yep.
Yeah, he's got an incredible filmography.
Discography.
And you'd hope so because this is a movie, you know, about music.
Primarily.
And at a certain point it just becomes all about the music.
You forget about the vampires.
Yeah.
But even though they haven't forgotten.
No.
And they're hanging around.
They're ready to do some vampire stuff.
There's one particular sequence, which I guess I won't fully spoil, where Sammy's playing
the guitar and singing, and they mention how music kind of transcends space and time,
and you can summon spirits from both the past, present, and the future, and you get that
in one shot.
Vanilla Rice is there.
Vanilla Rice is there, EminM is there yeah Benson Boone
arrives yeah he does a flip who else is there Imagine Dragons are there yeah
yeah Everlast is there yep Maroon 5 Maroon 5 show up exactly all the
greats you know what I mean you know, but it's they it weaves throughout like these different styles and genres of music in this one shot.
Machine Gun Kelly.
And I, you know, I don't know how else to explain that sequence other than like I could feel it.
Does that make sense?
Like you could I could literally feel it in my body.
It was, I don't, I don't think I've had-
That's called music.
It is, but it's not just that. I don't think I've experienced like a moment like that watching
anything ever. Yeah. So that was just wild to me. Yeah. Oh, and there's vampires.
There is vampires. A great cast, obviously the Michael B. Jordans.
Yep. There's Michael B. Jordan and Michael C. Howell.
Miles Caten is Sammy Moore, who's their little cousin.
Great.
Hailey Steinfeld.
Yeah, so Hailey Steinfeld is in this.
She is a white passing black woman
because her grandfather is half black, I think.
Which is true of Hailey Steinfeld in real life.
Yes, that's right.
Which I learned this week.
Very good, and she is the woman that Stack left behind.
So they came back from the war,
they came back to Mississippi,
and then they both built lives,
and then they just left to do gangster stuff in Chicago.
And now they're back in Bratistan.
Cool stuff, get cool suits.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Woonmi Misako is Smoke's lost love.
She plays Annie.
She's also, she's B15 in Loki.
Oh, she is, of course.
Yeah.
She's great in this.
She's really great.
Yeah.
I've really liked her.
Yeah.
We got a Delroy Lindo appearance.
Amazing.
Incredible.
Always amazing.
Always amazing.
Delroy Lindo.
He's a guy who's, he's an alcoholic and he's-
He's an guy who's, he's an alcoholic and he's a, he's, he's an incredible bluesman.
He's a bluesman and he's, he's, you know, done a, done a kind of a, a low paying
gig for years and years and he gets the opportunity to, to do the first night of
this juke joint for a lot of money and beer and beer and he's going to take that
chance.
Yep.
Um, yeah, good cast.
Omar Benson, Miller's great.
Jack O'Connor plays one of the vampires. Yeah, it's just,
it's amazing. They're all, everyone's very good. If I had any complaints, go on. I don't.
Wow. They're all good. Yeah. If you had any complaints, you're an ally, so you wouldn't,
you wouldn't voice them with you. I wouldn't either way. Yeah. I also think in terms of
the, the, I liked the vampire stuff in this because they don't try and do a, like a scientific
explanation for, and there is a place for that and I like that, but in this because they don't try and do a like a scientific explanation for and there is a place of that
And I like that but they're just like these are magic vampires
Yeah, they don't like garlic if they want to get inside they have to be invited
They've got this kind of shared collective consciousness kind of memory situation
Yeah, I thought it was very like a very sort of traditional vampire we can sort of fly but they had it sort of modern elements
I like the fact that so much of this movie seems to a lot of it is a transcending space and time
Yes, the shared consciousness thing feels like a modern thing
But a lot of the you know having to be invited that feels like an old thing
Yeah, I think also it's really interesting because they've got that kind of shared consciousness and it's not the not vampiric in the sense
So like if you kill the one who bit you that you'll turn back into a person.
It's just we I mean, presumably this like branch of vampirism goes back to Vlad the Impaler or whatever.
Maybe.
So there's no kind of Vlad the Impaler.
Thank you. There's no going kind of there's no going back to that.
And a lot of a lot of what they do is to get people on board and There's this thing around them and music and targeting specific
Artistic people because that enhances their abilities and it seems as if they've also they've all have
They themselves have a history of music and song which
Who knows how long that even goes back?
So they're collecting those kind of stories and what I liked about them is that they were, they had a quite a compelling argument.
Yeah. Because they're not racist.
They're all predominantly white. But, you know, this is like, it's prohibition era,
it's Jim Crow era, you know, black people and white people aren't supposed to, you know,
the clan is sort together. The clan is still around even though they say
they're not. Yeah. And these vampires are like, you know, if you could use this to fight
back against the clan, we're all we could all be in it together. It was very like class
consciousness kind of vibe. And I thought initially, and I think there's an there's
an element of like, oh, they're bullshitting. They don't believe this.
But I think they do.
Yeah.
I think it's a way for you to incentivize people to either invite them in or you go out.
Yeah.
But it seems that they do believe in that kind of, in a fucked up way, yeah, you know that kind of um, I know it unionizing
Yeah, and there's this element of um, do we talked about this before recorded?
What did you call it the opposite of Buffy in terms of?
Vampirism Oh in the in the Buffy universe when somebody is turned into a vampire their soul is destroyed and sort of
Sort of sent out into the you, in tiny little fragments out of
the universe.
So it's kind of gone.
But in this, if somebody is transformed into a vampire, their soul is trapped in the body.
Which is bad.
That's bad, I think.
Sometimes it's pretty cool though.
It seems pretty cool.
You can do some cool stuff.
Good action sequences.
Can I say good action sequences?
It's very, it's pretty gory.
But I think even when it's the action isn't happening, just the two boys heading back
to the...
The camera work in this...
Yeah.
I've written something down, who have I got here?
Hang on, because I wrote down the name of the cinematographer Autumn Durald.
Acapul.
Acapul, yeah.
So she, I saw an interview with her and Ryan Coogler and they were talking about they're
inspired by the thing that will be blood the last emperor.
You can see that like there some of this the the shots
Yes, there is I mean there are certainly as well, you know, just plot wise there are some elements of the thing
Yeah, there's a moment where we have to like learn, you know, the the vampires can't vampires can't enter, you know
A building without being invited but perhaps someone's already in there. Maybe somebody's been turned into a vampire in the building
And so they had to kind of do a yeah, I need test yeah you know so there's you know there's there is
certain there there are some small i like that there were small elements of
what has come before but like just a bunch of yeah
just new stuff you know i liked also because there's there's a
witchcraft element to as well where like there's
there are there is like a level of like protect and you can get in terms of
hexes and yeah because smoke's uh partner Annie yeah or former former former flame Annie she is she has some sort of
she has some old world mysticism and kind of she'll and he doesn't believe that no he doesn't
believe it but he has carried a kind of uh yeah a hex bag a totem with him you know throughout the
war and throughout his his Chicago Chicago adventures that seems to have
protected him.
Also, pretty sexy, you know?
The movie?
Yeah.
Not voodoo.
No, not the voodoo stuff.
But I'm saying in terms of like, it doesn't, I think we are getting back to that era of
putting sex in movies.
But it doesn't feel like it's just like, oh, look at this.
What happened to those family values, you know?
Yeah. But we used to rely, et cetera.
Very good.
But I think there's the way this is placed in the movie, I think it's good.
It's good.
Yeah.
It's good.
Sexy movies are back, Mason.
Well, I mean, but also, you know, anything vampire related has to have some element of
hornyness to it.
It's true.
Twilight.
Yeah, absolutely. Twilight 2. So horny. Though the horniest Twilight. That's right. Maybe I don't know which is yeah, they're all good
They're all good. Yeah
Great costuming. I think so too the period era. Yeah
Costumes are phenomenal. I agree. Um, I think also a little sport here than stack is I think also
Flat cap on he does and a wristwatch.ax. He is. I think also... He's got a flat cap on. He does. And a wristwatch.
Yeah.
Those two together, I...
Yeah, I notice this a lot in The Flash,
which is also a Warner Brothers production,
when there's two Ezra Millers on screen.
I could pick the face replacement or one was often CGI and I...
Yeah, right, right.
... found that really distracting.
There's not a second of this.
Because it seems as if, and I don't know how they did it specifically, but they used like body doubles, face replacement, probably deep fakes.
Obviously the person who doubled for Michael B Jordan looked enough like him where if you did a face replacement, it's not super noticeable if they did deep fakes.
Although if we haven't seen the behind the scenes, maybe he looks nothing like him. Maybe they're just the same person.
I just mean like you kind of need to get the basic structure of a person.
Think about this. Sinners, Mickey 17, The Monkey, and that Robert De Niro movie.
Yeah.
Where they're all everybody's twins.
That's true. It's a big year for twins movies.
Is it because the technology is way cheaper now to do it?
I guess.
Or maybe they only have to pay an actor one and a half times?
Yeah, that might be it.
That might be it.
I also thought that they
really, aside from the costuming, they did a good job of making the two brothers distinct. I was
never like, which one is this one? And it wasn't just in the costuming. It was also it was a lot
of it was performance and attitude and the way it was. Stacks more of a wheeler dealer. Yeah,
smoke is a little down on the whole idea. Yeah, when you really drill down into it
But but stack is like, yeah, you know, we got we got to make this happen. Absolutely
I'm gonna go around and shoot people in the butt. Yeah to make this happen and he's gonna make it happen
Should we do some spoilers? Let's do some spoilers. Um, yeah good good action. I wouldn't say yeah action is certainly very good
I would say it's there's there's brief bursts of action. It's not an action movie.
Most of it is character work and set up and music and dance.
And then there's probably maybe 10 minutes of action in this entire thing, which is fine.
But it hits hard.
It really doesn't overstay its welcome.
It comes and it goes.
And there's also an action sequence at the end where it's like, oh, I didn't think this
was going to happen. And that was a lot of fun. It comes and it goes and there's also an action sequence at the end where it's like I didn't think this was gonna happen
Yeah, and that was a lot of fun. I'm like, but if you could if you
Can squeeze it in if the budget stretches to this because there's a bit in the trailer where I'm like
Oh that hasn't happened yet. Where he's firing the Tommy guy. Yeah
No, you're gonna get it. Yeah best movie ever great surprised loved it. Best movie ever
I mean we'd heard it was good and it was. And I'd be leaving the theater go, wow, movies are good. Because, you know, we recently saw the
Minecraft movie and even though you said it was the best movie ever.
I didn't say that. I said it was bad.
Also, this movie, not attached to a franchise or anything, but it does have a mid credits
and a post credits.
It does. Yeah. Which we will talk. I mean, I think the mid credits is that it just leads straight into it.
Like it doesn't really stop. So and also the mid credits is it's very important to the movie.
So absolutely stay. It's not it's not just a whatever.
So I wonder why that I don't know.
I mean, I would have meant if knowing nothing about Ryan Coogler, but having watched some videos,
you know, about the production of this and etc.
Maybe it's just because he wanted to people to stick around and watch the credits and see who was involved in making it
Yeah, that that seems like the most logical thing. Yeah, so don't know. Yeah, I know but we all stuck around we did anyways spoilers
I mean, it's it's heavy on death sure is most people die. Almost everybody dies
Yeah, I mean I all get turned into a vampire and then most of those vampires die.
A couple survive and of course Sammy lives to,
I was gonna say the modern day,
he lives to at least 1990.
So yeah, yeah, yeah.
Which we'll talk about the...
I loved how, so is it Jack O'Connell who plays Remick,
who's the main vampire, who we first see,
he's been turned into a vampire at some point
and then he's being chased by Native American vampire hunters.
Then he convinces a couple who are clan members to give him sanctuary.
And then he turns them into vampires.
But I love how over the course of the movie,
he keeps transforming and getting weirder.
These claws keep getting longer.
Yeah.
And you know.
But he can kind of, he can switch it on and off.
I don't know.
Do you think he's, do you think he's like a modernish one or do you think he's from,
where do you think he's from?
He's not from like hundreds or thousands.
Yeah.
I got the sense that maybe he was like an old, like European peasant maybe.
Okay.
I don't know. But also because they've got the shared collective memory.
It's impossible.
It doesn't matter.
You don't know.
Because there's a, there's a, there's a, the Chow, there's a couple of the Chows and they're
like Delta Chinese immigrants and they run the local general store and they are turned
into vampires at a certain point.
And then suddenly everybody knows how to speak Chinese. Yeah. Yeah exactly
So yeah after they do all the vampire stuff and everybody seems to be dead except one of the Michael B. Jordans. Oh, yeah
There's a Klan massacre. Yeah, so
At the very start of the movie
The the smokestack twins show up in Mississippi again
And there's an old sawmill and they have enough cash. Yeah, I'm their misadventures in Chicago
To do they also got their money by robbing the Irish and the Italians. That's correct
Yes, and then the idea is that they the Irish and Italians think the other ones did it
Yeah, right made out and they probably would have got caught at some point. I assume. Yeah, that's the implication
Yeah, sorry go on but um and they they purchased it from this guy
who
They suspect has have client affiliations or at least alike this guy seems like a racist
Yeah would be in that era and they're like this this is all the money you're ever gonna get from us
Don't come back. Yeah, if you come back here, we'll shoot you. Yeah, and they'll and he's like, oh no
But he will yeah, and he comes right at the end. He comes back with all these guys. So this is the, you know,
the saw mills overrun with vampires. You know, the remaining good guys fight back. You know,
everybody is, yes, smoke seemingly kills stack, but we don't see it happen. Yep.
But we realized that they actually made a deal.
Yeah.
That stack has to leave, but he can never go to Sammy ever again.
Yeah.
He can't try and turn him into a vampire.
Yeah.
But anyway, it's all over.
All the...
Can't Michael be Jordan who's left?
Can't even roll a goddamn cigarette.
Smoke survives till daytime and all the vampires that are pursuing him get stuck in.
And they told him also as part of the negotiations to join him that the clan were coming the
next day to kill them all anyway.
So you probably should get turned into a vampire.
And they do, they all show up.
They do show up, but luckily the smokestack twins had foreseen this and they foreshadowed
a big trunk of stuff in the back of his truck which contains a bunch of cool army guns and
stuff.
Yep.
Big Tommy gun and he just kills like a big light machine gun and he just lays waste to
them and it's super fun.
Yeah.
It's so fun.
It's very Tarantino kind of.
Yeah.
There's a real satisfying kind of. Yeah.
And it's, it kind of feels like, not that it doesn't belong. That's the wrong word.
You don't need it, I guess. Yeah. But it's a real, like, it's very, it's a real satisfying kind of.
It really is. Conclusion, not only to like his story, but just, I don't know, just kind of that
world and that era. Yeah. and he obviously he doesn't survive it
He could have he could have ducked behind that like bail a hay or whatever. Yeah, but I mean he did pretty well
He threw that hand grenade in that in that guy's truck
But yeah, he gets he gets shot in the gut and he's on the way out
And he dies. Yeah, but then he sees he does machine gun that guy though
He does machine gun that guy and then he sees Annie his his former love in there and their child that didn't survive
Uh, and he's like well i'm going to heaven probably good. I'm going to heaven. Yeah
So you would because after you've seen the vampires you'd be like, oh, yeah
Yeah, you know, I guess all things are things all real and I did kill all those clan people. So yes
Yeah, but then post mid credits, we cut to 1992.
Oh, I just wanted to quickly say, because all the vampire
people disappear, I guess what that would have looked like
was a clan massacre.
Yeah, right.
And they disappeared all the bodies.
And I guess Sammy, who's left, who's got a big vampire
scratch down his face, I guess it would have just assumed
that he was the only survivor of this clan massacre
that happened.
Yeah, right.
And I guess that that's how they kind of explained it away.
I don't really know.
Yeah.
Anyway, sorry, go on.
Cuts to 1992, Sammy's still alive,
but now he's Buddy Guy, actual blues musician.
Yeah.
And he's performing in a club, and who should rock up,
but two very 1990s looking stack and Mary
Ely Steinfeld and they're like, hey man, what's been happening?
You're cool.
Yeah, you're cool.
What's been happening the last 60 years?
We got all your music.
We think it's cool.
We think it's cool actually.
Yeah.
Yeah, just letting you know.
Yeah.
I thought that was also interesting.
First of all, Michael B Jordan wearing the best 90s Coogee sweater.
Oh my god.
That's an Australian original.
Is it really?
Coogee sweaters are Australian.
I didn't know that.
Haven't you seen me wear those weird sweaters I wear sometimes?
I just thought, I don't know, I didn't know what you were doing.
Yeah, all right.
Nobody does, man.
No, they're good sweaters.
That is one of the best I've ever seen, honestly.
Yeah, it's great.
I've given that movie.
Ah, fiery red and orange.
Yeah.
Little glasses.
I hope they reissue that one.
I don't know where they got it. But they're like, they just sort of and orange. Yeah. Little glasses. I hope they reissue that one.
I don't know where they got it.
But they're like, they just sort of reminisce.
They're like, honestly, it was one of the best nights we've ever had.
It was rad as hell.
It was rad as hell.
Like it was really scary, but also it was pretty cool.
Sammy's like, yeah, I mean, before all the vampire massive stuff happened, it was the
best day of my life.
I got laid, it was rad.
That's right. I mean, she died. We got to play music. I got toac stuff happened. Yeah. It's the best day of my life. I got laid. It was rad.
That's right.
I mean, she died.
I got to play music.
I got to meet Eminem.
Yeah.
I got to meet Sugar Ray.
Sugar Ray was there.
So I also thought...
I got a preview of All Star by Smash Mouth.
They were there.
I just assumed that...
I don't know that they didn't have...
The vampires didn't have their own agency.
Yeah, right.
But I guess they do.
Because like, I guess that the bond between those brothers is stronger than whatever vampire
law.
Yeah, I guess so.
And they offer to convert him into a vampire.
He's like, nah, I'm good.
Yeah.
I don't want that.
Yeah.
And then there is a post-post credits where.
I'll be honest, I did think, I did think Hayley Steinfeld's character did die.
I thought she burst into flames, but I guess she lived.
No, she ran off.
Did she?
You see footage of it as well.
Yeah.
Okay.
Yeah.
All right.
Good honour.
Yeah, I say good honour too.
But yeah, then there's a post-post credits and it's Sammy playing music.
Back in the day.
Back in the day.
So yeah.
I've got some reviews here.
Would you like to hear about them?
I would love to hear about it. It's from the Planet Broadcasting Great Mates group. Oh yes.
It's just from Heather Ringman who says, I saw it and liked it.
There were good performances, great costumes and fantastic music sequences.
There are some strangers with the script, like I wondered if there would be some things in the longer version of the movie that were
cut out, but overall I thought it was fun and I hope a lot of people people get I go to see it. Fidel Reyes Mason says. Oh yes.
You know Fidel. Friend of ours. Exactly. Ryan Coogler is one of those directors whose work
I'll go out of my way to go support. Sinners in particular was worth a trip. It was a beautiful
it was beautiful to look at and all the other performance brought their A game. I really
enjoyed Michael B Jordan's performance but I think I preferred Michael B Jordan's performance.
Nice. Alexis Gentry over at Tr Michael B. Jordan's performance. Nice!
Alexis Gentry over at Trash Way.
Check her out.
Amazing.
Sinners might be my fave of the year so far.
Maybe.
It might be mine.
Yeah.
This and Black Bag.
Definitely out there.
Yep.
Sexy.
Yep.
Paul, oh yeah, being sexy in movies is back.
Paul Spooner says-
It's always been sexy in podcasts.
It's true.
They're finally borrowing some of our energy.
Yeah, but don't look at it. Just listen to our voices.
That's right.
Paul Spooner says,
Wanted to love this, but it never fully clicked for me.
Performances all around are great.
The script held it back for me.
Some of the melodrama between characters seemed hokey.
Okay.
Mitchell Hall says,
Genuinely one of the most enjoyable movies
I've seen in cinemas recently.
Everyone's acting is great.
The visuals were great.
The music is fantastic.
Don't make the same mistake as most of the cinema I saw on
stay for the whole credit.
So I guess people were walking out during that sequence.
Shouldn't have done it.
So that's all the reviews.
Yes.
This is from Vulture though.
There's an article which I think is worth discussing where they did a kind of deep
dive into Ryan Coogler's deal with this movie.
I was going to read it, but then it was like, you've used up all your free articles
this month.
And I went to look at it again and they've taken it down.
But I don't know.
Maybe it's back up by now, but apparently Ryan Coogler gets full ownership of this
movie in 2050.
Huh.
Apparently.
So in 25 years.
Yes.
Apparently anonymous Hollywood sources are calling it very dangerous, as well as to
say it could be the end of the studio system.
Oh, good riddance I say.
Coogler has said that he considers the ownership deal a one-off,
rooted at least in part in Cinder's focus on themes of black artists' ownership of their own culture.
Uh-huh.
I don't think if you can get away with it, I wouldn't make this a one-off.
If you can make this part of your list.
I mean, there's famous examples of people who they created an IP or a character and they don't own it.
Like Stallone famous...
I've never heard of one.
Stallone, for example, created Rocky, but it is owned
by some family or some guy. And I understand, like, I get the point that like, yeah, he
did it under, through somebody else's financing. I understand that, but he can't even be co-owner
of this character and franchise. Like that's like the amount of money that something like that has made. This might happen with creator-owned, creator-funded projects.
I think Passion the Christ is an example where Mel Gibson put up his own money for that,
so he owns Jesus Christ.
Oh, that's great.
Yeah.
Finally, somebody owns that.
I'm tied to all these public domain Jesus Christ out there.
Tarantino, also, this is a similar deal where he gets the rights to Once Upon a Time
in Hollywood in like 20 or so years.
I mean, he'll be 80 plus by then whenever this happens.
But it's more the principle of the thing.
I think so.
I don't see any problem.
I mean, if you can, you know, and what's the alternative?
Like the studio gets it.
Like, who's side do they think people will be on in this? And again,
I understand the mechanics of making a movie and the finance of it. But obviously the creative
driving force of a thing, you know, they've gestated this idea and built something. I think
that, I mean, also what is this even going to be worth in 20 years? Like how much money is he
really going to get for it? You know, I think I like it. I like it in principle years. That's true. How much money is he really going to get for it?
I like it.
I like it in principle.
I love this idea.
What I would say also, though, and we mentioned this,
I think, when we talked about the Sinner's Trailer
maybe a few weeks back or something like that.
There is also a comic book called Bitter Root.
Yes.
Co-created by Sanford Green, Chuck Brown, and David F.
Walker, it's set during the Harlem Renaissance
and follows the Sangriers, a family of monster hunters
who attempt to cure creatures rather than killing them.
The rights to the film adaptation
were acquired by Legendary Pictures.
In October 2019, it was announced that Ryan Kuglasev
of Harnian and Zinzi Evans would direct the film.
So what happened there?
But then he's gone to a different kind of monster hunter.
I guess there's no, if I had to guess,
I would say there's little to no crossover
sort of character wise.
No.
But it's interesting, right?
It is interesting.
Yeah.
Maybe he was like, this doesn't fit for me, but I would like a different, you know, I
would like to do a different vampire hunting thing.
It says that Ryan Kugel was in 2019 and then in 2021, Regina King was attached to the project.
Did you say that already?
No, but that is true.
Yeah.
So that's interesting.
I didn't know Regina King directed.
Very interesting.
Oh yeah, she's directed a bunch.
There you go.
Cool.
It is cool.
All right, Mason.
All in all good movie.
Movies are good again and they'll never be bad.
This is going to, from here on out, all good movies.
What's next week?
Until Dawn?
Oh yeah.
Could be a good movie.
Could be good.
Should we move it along?
Let's move it along.
To what?
What we readin'?
What?
What we gonna read?
What?
Yep.
I'm doing the thing.
What are we reading today?
Wow, love this segment.
Do you know why?
Why?
To talk about things we've been watching or reading or doing or listening to. Wow, love this segment.
You know why?
Why?
To talk about things we've been watching or reading or doing or listening to.
That's so true.
Yeah.
What have you been up to?
I'm still watching the studio.
Oh yeah, me too.
I'm watching it.
A lot of people are like, this is supposed to be a premium television, but it's just
dumb.
It's rude.
I don't think it's supposed to be premium television.
Like it's...
It's entourage. It is entourage.
No, but it's kind of... What's the term? What do they call it? Prestige TV. It's not supposed to
be prestige. It looks like prestige TV. But it's stupid and full of idiots.
But it's stupid and full of idiots. I think maybe it did take me like an episode or two to
cotton onto this. It's silly to say straight up comedy.
It's got the vibe of that.
And they're doing some interesting things like there, which I think is fun.
I don't know if they're going to lean into it the entire season, but like when the characters
are doing a genre thing, the episode itself is also that genre thing.
Like there's an episode where there's a whodunit There is a whodunit and so the the you know
They can drive away for the main characters to put on trench coats
Yeah, like solve a mystery. Yes, you know this this mystery of a missing film reel
While you know, they're they're working on this mystery film
Yeah, or there's an episode where a director has to do a wanna
Yeah film, etc. Or there's an episode where a director has to do a one-er, a single take, a long
single take sequence, and that episode is a long single take sequence.
I don't know if it really is.
No, it probably is.
Or maybe it is.
It's very impressive regardless.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
But I just like Seth Rogen and Nevin Goldberg's stuff generally.
It is stupid.
Who's the other guy?
Barinholtz.
Barinholtz is great in that as well.
He's great in that as well, yeah, yeah.
And you might get an occasional celebrity cameo like a Marty Scorsese.
Or Ronald Howard.
Ron Howard's in it, that's right.
No, I enjoy it.
Yeah, it's good.
I'm also reading- It's pretty hectic.
Yeah, yeah, it's hectic.
I'm also reading for the first time,
Corteau Maltese, the comic book character.
What's he up to?
Well, so he's created by the Italian comic book creator,
Hugo Prado, 1967.
We mentioned this on, I think, maybe on a caravan of garbage
or something like that.
It's sort of contemporaneous with like Tin Tin and Nastyx
and all those guys.
But I'd heard of this character before.
In DC comics, the island of Corteau, Maltese
is named after him in the Suicide Squad.
He's a cool DC guy.
Well, he's not a DC guy, James. But it's named after him. Well, icide Squad. He's a cool DC guy. Well, he's not a DC guy, James.
But it's named after him.
Well, yeah, he's an independent guy.
But I'd never read Coltomaltese before.
It's great.
He's like a sailor, like a kind of a,
you know, he goes on adventures.
It's also very well researched.
Like there's a lot of kind of-
What era are you reading of this?
This is from the 1960s, but a lot of it is set,
the first volume is set in like the 1910s. Okay
And it's sort of very like he'll he'll take you know characters will take journeys to like the Philippines and New Zealand
and stuff like that from this era none of it is kind of like
Stereotypical kind of you know based on assumptions. It's clearly very well researched and it's you know
kind of, you know, based on assumptions. It's clearly very well researched and it's, you know, a lot of, a lot of interesting characters. Everybody's plotting and scheming in a very
grown up kind of way. It's not kind of, you know, it's, it's really good.
It's not like, wow. It's not like that.
Nobody's like, wow, James. First of all, how dare you.
Sorry, I appreciate you saying that.
But it's a, and it's a, just a, just a, just a, just a wonderful art style. I don't know.
It's very, it's quite simple, but he's, it's very expressive art. I do like the art style. I don't know. It's quite simple, but it's very expressive art.
I do like the art style of that.
This was sort of my blind spot to the point where when we talked about it the other day,
I'm like, I can't even remember this guy's name.
It's really good.
Cool.
I guess it's had a bunch of expanded stuff.
There's been a live action TV, some TV stuff, some movies, some animated stuff.
I don't know.
Animated.
I do have to watch it all digitally though, because it's...
Read it all digitally, because it's not the...
The problem is shredded and not printed again.
The print copies are hard to find in Australia.
Perhaps unsurprisingly.
You know, there's such a thing as buying something overseas and spending a lot of money,
and getting it shipped over here for a lot of money.
You know that you can do that.
Wrong.
There's not?
No.
They cancelled tariffs.
You forgot about the tariffs.
God damn it. God damn whoever did that. That's right. You forgot about the tariffs. God damn it.
Yeah.
God damn whoever did that.
That's right.
Was it you?
Yeah, I did it.
Nah, you're alright, mate.
Yeah, thanks, man.
I don't know if we're actually going to get a chance to do a full episode on this, but
I finished Daredevil Season 1.
Daredevil, Born Again Season 1, which is Daredevil Season 4, I guess.
Yes.
I think all in all, considering they restructured this entire thing, I think they pulled it
off.
I think it's a very strong season of Daredevil.
Okay. I think the action is generally good. I think the story, it doesn't feel like,
and I know they mentioned it, like it doesn't tread water, I feel like, as much in parts.
Like it moves forward.
It's propulsive.
It's propulsive. You know, you're getting the punishes having his little moments and that in as well.
It's not like MCU cameo heavy, which I'm totally fine with.
There's even minor players like, I can't remember his name, James Gandolfini's son
plays a role in this and he's barely in it,
but he's great.
It's also, it does one of the goriest things
that have happened in the MCU by far.
I'm not up to that episode yet.
In the very last episode.
I'm gonna spoil it now.
Does the kingpin tear somebody's head off or something?
Yeah, he basically squashes this dude's head flat and then like you see him like pull the jaw off of a man and he just like crumples his head. It's
wild. Because he's got kingpin strength. He's got kingpin strength and so yeah and it's very much,
it is a cliffhanger ending and they're currently filming season two and hopefully, you know,
it seems like they've got the direction that they want to go. Right now, finally. Well hopefully two will be you know, extremely cohesive.
Now Charlie Cox is great as always. Were you propelled along by this by looking at the
the set links for season two and going oh he's got the black suit? No I mean I love that, it looks
amazing and he's finally got the D on his chest, the double D's.
I get it. Yeah, you would.
Yeah. I mean, sure. But that suit looks incredible. Yeah, it's way better than... I don't mind
this suit in this season, but I think, yeah, the next season. And he uses more of his billy
club and stuff. Yeah. It's really brutal. Like it's in a way that I don't even think
the Netflix one could get away with.
And I just even mean that from budgetary wise. Yeah, Ryan.
Those things you can do with the violence with a budget that you couldn't do on Netflix.
And I think it was Steven Nesta and I who show around, I think it was just the first season.
He was like- Of the original.
Of the original one. He was like, well, yeah, we would have done more swinging through the city.
It wasn't like a creative choice.
Like we wanted to do that.
But it's, it's really expensive.
Yeah.
But now you can.
So it's not a flaw that they are making him more athletic and like, yeah, he
wouldn't have to be CGI to do this particular move or whatever.
It's just that now you can do it.
Or he could work a bit, Charlie Cox could work a bit harder.
He could work a bit harder.
Exactly.
Yeah.
Uh, yeah, I really enjoyed it.
I don't know whether everybody feels the same way. I don't care.
Wow.
That's right, Mason.
Normally you're very concerned.
That's right.
Normally you wait until everybody else in the room has said what they think of the thing and then you say it.
Correct.
I agree, actually.
Yeah.
I agree with the majority here.
Yeah, well I did look into it and everybody's saying it.
Okay, that's good.
So I'm happy to go along with it.
That's true.
Yeah, no, good, strong, liked it a lot.
Bullseye's great, whatever, whatever, etc. Again, he should just be showing up lot. Oh bulls eyes great. Whatever whatever. Okay night
He should just be showing up in things. I agree wrecking the Avengers a chaos man once in a while
Yeah, being a chaos man. Yeah, it is gonna be interesting because this the city is put in a certain place
And it's about like in relation to vigilantes and curfews and things like that
And there is an opportunity there for spider-Man to show Spider-Man or
any number of New York based villains that aren't necessarily from the TV series, but
you could work in from the wider MCU.
Willy Lumpkin the mailman.
Yeah, I don't know whether they're going to do it.
Aunt May and her famous wheat cakes.
That's right.
No, she died.
Oh yeah, she died.
She died, Mason.
The Green Goblin stabbed her or something.
Yeah, but maybe the real Aunt May could show up. The real Green Goblin. Oh,, she died. She died Mason. The green goblin stabbed her or something. Maybe the real
the real green goblin. Oh okay. Yeah. Okay, great. The real Aunt Make It Shop. I love that. Yeah. I'm
something of an Aunt May myself. She'll say. Yeah, true. Don't you think? I think that is true.
Fantastic. Is that all we're talking about this week? I've got other things. Constantly reading
things, Mason. Okay, say a thing. I'm reading this. I'm Kylo Ren comic book that I'm reading
the moment. Why are you saying very enthusiastic about saying very I bought a copy of the electric state the oh, yeah, what do you think?
I haven't read it sitting next to my bed, but you gave it a quick flick. Yeah, it looks incredible
It's way better than the movie which was bad. That's a show. Yeah
It's a lot moodier, isn't it? It's why moodier. Yeah, so I'm looking forward to reading that. Yeah, it's a good
It's a good thick book. It's a thick or. Or me and my son, who you know. Don't say his name. Mason's trying to say his name. But he won't do, you
shouldn't. We went into the city the other day and we just bought a bunch of comics.
Where'd you go? Shout out the shop. We went to a couple of places. Did you go to All Star
Comics? All Star Comics. And we went to Minotaur as well. Yeah. Both have their own comics.
So true, isn't it? So shout out comics. Does Minotaur still have that big Minotaur statue?
Like the giant Minotaur statue?
Yeah, I think it does.
It's in jeans?
Yes.
Minotaur in jeans?
Hell yeah.
That one's more kind of like...
I bet you wouldn't steal it, James.
I bet you.
You bet I wouldn't.
I bet you wouldn't.
Correct.
That one's also more if you want like pop culture stuff, like items or whatever.
That's true, yeah.
The other one is like pretty much strictly a comic book store.
Yeah, yeah, that's my thought.
And it's got a little kids section as well.
Oh, it does.
It's just fun. Yeah. I know. Yeah cool.
Oh well All Star Comics also has like an Australian.
It does yeah.
An all Australian sort of indie comic.
The Phantom.
No I don't.
It's just The Phantom.
I don't think The Phantom.
And Crocodile Dundee prequels.
Yeah.
How do you get the vest? How do you get the knife?
Young Dundee they call it.
Young D.
Young D.
Young Dundee.
Okay what are we doing most then? I think now it's time for letters. All right, man. Here's the
theme to letters. Well, I'm ready to listen to it. The classic one was letters, oh letters. Have you
played it yet? I'm playing it right now. Oh. Do you need to start it again? No. I mean I do need to,
but I'm not going to. It's only here right now, we're going to do letters. Do you need me to do
anything? No. Okay. This is the letter section of the show. Yep. It going to. We're going to do letters. Do you need me to do anything? No.
Okay.
This is the letter section of the show.
It's easy.
All you're going to do is send Mason a very brief email at weeklyplanetpodatgmail.com
and maybe he'll read it out.
But not too brief.
Not too brief.
You want to, and don't just write a very brief email and then that's your email.
Like we know, we've seen it all.
That is a good joke. we've seen it all.
We've seen it all.
That's a good joke though.
Well I don't look at it, but Mason does.
Or go into the Planet Broadcasting Great Mates group
and every week there's a thread up there
if you wanna reach the show and maybe,
just maybe, I'll read 10 of them out.
This week it's two.
That's terrific.
Go on Mason.
Here's an email from Sammy.
Sammy.
Hi James and Mason, the most frustrating thing
about finding a great show is when you recommend it to a friend and they never watch it.
My recommendation that gets ignored is the animated show Pantheon. Have you heard of it?
No.
It's a thought-provoking sci-fi series where a corporation is developing the tech to upload human consciousness
and it follows a family that fights against the corporation's shady practices.
It's available on both Amazon Prime and Netflix and features the soft smooth tones of Paul Dana.
Dana? Dana? Dana. What are shows that you are always recommending but no one watches? on both Amazon Prime and Netflix and features the soft smooth tones of Paul Dano. Dano? Dano, yeah.
What are shows that you're always recommending but no one watches?
Oh man, I'll tell you what, that is frustrating. You know what I find frustrating?
Go on.
Inequality. It's really, I just wish everything was all right.
Okay, but that's not what this podcast is about.
No, I know, but I'm just saying. I feel deeper than a lot of people in that sense.
You're an empath.
Yeah, thank you. And I knew you were going to say that.
No, that was a question, that was a question marking it, that you're. You're an empath. Yeah, thank you. And I knew you were going to say that. No, that was a question.
That was a question marking it, that you're saying you're an empath.
I feel that way, yes.
And I know that as an empath because I know how I'm feeling.
I have a couple of Australian shows which I have recommended before.
Mr. In Between.
I don't know whether it's pretty popular, isn't it?
I think it is.
Good Australian crime drama.
Crime drama, sort of.
Yeah.
Have you seen that yet?
No, I haven't seen it yet.
It's amazing.
You know what's fun?
What's that?
And Broden Kelly's in it, who just wrapped up this comedy show.
Oh, is it Colin from Accounts?
Colin from Accounts.
Okay.
That's a really fun Australian comedy.
I don't know if people have seen this, but Marvel's What If?
Give it a chance, season three.
Oh, yes.
What if the Avengers were Max?
Oh, that's so true, isn't it?
What are you recommending always?
I don't know, man. Jag? I'm not recommending Jag, no. Why not? I don't know.
Jag?
I'm not recommending Jag.
Why not?
I don't.
You haven't finished it yet.
I haven't finished Jag.
Yeah.
Does Jag ever show up in ER?
Hi, I'm Jag.
I wouldn't think so.
Here to do...
nautical dramas?
That is what he does.
You've nailed that.
I don't know.
I feel like I'm always...
Supernatural? No, I've not. I've watched one I Don't know. I feel like I'm always supernatural. No, I've not I've watched one episode of supernatural. I'm pretty sure okay
Would you recommend it? Yeah, it was really good. Oh, I
Don't know man. That's it. I
I'm usually last to the I'm usually last to the table in terms of recommending a thing
Wow, well, you can watch those three shows that I recommended mr.. In Between, Colin from Accounts and Marvel's What If Season 3.
Okay then.
I will.
Yeah.
Cool, man.
I got another one here.
Go on.
I got one even though broadcasting Great Mates Group.
This is from Josh Hockey who says, do you think Disney taking over Marvel and Star Wars
and jamming out content is ruining the movie and TV industry?
I don't think it's specific to Disney.
I think everybody jamming out content all the time.
Just jamming out the content.
It is. Yeah. I think everybody jamming out content all the time. Just jamming out the content.
There is an overwhelming glut of things that I have yet to watch and want to.
There was something, somebody mentioned something to me the other day and I'm like, I've never
seen that.
And I'm like, why haven't I seen that?
I can't remember why.
Peaky blinders.
Never seen it.
Don't know a goddamn thing about it.
But I should watch it.
But I can't because I'm watching What If Season 3.
Which I'm not watching but I can't because I'm watching What If Season 3. That's true, yes. Yeah, which I'm not watching.
Yeah, I don't know.
I think it is just, it's just brands forever, man.
Yeah.
I mean, they're a big part of it, but I don't, I don't know.
Also if stuff is good, it doesn't matter.
But sometimes it isn't.
And that's bad.
What do you think?
I think it's good.
More stuff.
No, I don't know.
I know, but I mean, I think that what I have been enjoying recently is that a lot of streaming services have moved back to one episode a week as opposed to the Netflix model of which in theory, back in the day was a revelation every episode at once, but I don't think that works at all anymore if it ever did.
You said it's lame.
I didn't say that. I said it's a shame.
Oh. A shame on you. What? That hurt me because I'm
an empath. You know what you did. I filled that. But I think it gets people talking about...
Yeah. Oh, you know what? I'm always recommending Party Down to people. That's a good show.
It is a great show. And they brought it back. Yeah, they did. Yeah, for the revival. They're
a little revival. Is that coming back again? I don't think it's coming back again. I mean,
Adam Scott is busy. So. That true. That's got Jennifer Coolidge
did a season of that. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Party down. That's a show I'm recommending
and people will be like, I'll put that on my list. And then I'll get it. It started
in like 2010 and they bought it back in like what? 2024 or something? 2023. Yeah. Yeah.
God damn. I'm just checking the future of this. It's not coming back again. There's
no way. No talks or nothing. I mean, I guess in checking the future of this. It's not coming back again. There's no way.
No talks or nothing.
I mean, I guess in the sense that, you know, Adam Scott is now in Severance and it's a
big popular show.
I guess maybe they get enough of a bump that he could go in and do it kind of thing.
But then maybe he'd only be a guest character.
Yeah, exactly.
So, you know, the vibe of that show is that he's the main character who can never quite
get anywhere. No, that's right. main character who can never quite get anywhere.
No, that's right. I mean, yes, that's right. Cool. Got another one, Mason?
You better believe I do.
I believe it.
This is from Harry.
Harry.
G'day boys.
G'day, Harry.
Long time listener, first time writer. I'm emailing from the grey and miserable UK.
I work in retail. Over the years, I've had multiple people ask if I'm from Australia
because apparently my customer voice has a twang. doesn't specify, but I don't think so
It's probably from listening to YouTube jokers every week
Come on to the point where I'm just rolling with it and hope to God no one from Australia
I actually asked me specifically where I'm from. Where is the best place to say I'm from to avoid any follow-up questions?
Gundaguy under God I won't say I'm from the dog in the Tucker box. Yeah, the Tucker box. That's right
That's where I'm from.
Yep.
Say you're from.
Back of Smarsh.
Oh, no one's going to know that.
Springvale.
Springvale.
Yeah.
Say you're from Caroline Springs.
Say you're from Caroline Springs and nobody ask.
Just go, it's off the west gate.
Just say that.
It's not, but it doesn't matter.
It doesn't matter.
Nobody will ask.
Yeah, yeah, that's true.
Yeah.
Where's Ned Kelly from?
Glenroy. Glenroy.. Where's Ned Kelly from?
Glenroy.
Glenroy.
You could say you're from Glenroy.
You could say you're from Glenroy.
You said you were born under the Ned Kelly statue in Glenroy.
That's right, yeah.
You could say you're from Glenrobins.
The man.
The comedic actor, Glenroy.
Yeah, that's right.
Glenrobins.
All options.
That's true, isn't it?
Yeah, just lie.
It's fine.
I got one here, Mason. It's a different one every time. Yeah, definitely. It's from Bradley Trenary, who says,
With Sinners coming out, what's the best twin-
Oh, too late, it's out.
Yeah, true.
What's the best twins movie played by the same actor?
To be clear, I guess I mean the most convincing set of twins,
which felt like two different actors were playing them,
as in they had their own distinguishable personas.
Yes.
My vote is for Crook, Bloke, Army, Hammer, and The Social Network,
but also Shout Out to Danny DeVito in Twins. Very good. Well done.
See, the thing about Armie Hammer in the social network is at the time I didn't know he was
one guy. So that's maybe in a rewatch I'd be like, well, that's obviously Armie Hammer
but two different guys.
Adaptation, Nicolas Cage plays two Nicolas Cages.
Yes.
Double. But that feels like Nicolas Cage in two different wigs. Yeah, fair point.
You know, what about double impact? One packs a piece the other packs a punch. Yeah, that's so true. Jean-Claude Van Damme.
What about Janelle Monae in Glass Onion, but they're not really on the screen at the same time.
They're never really on the screen at the same time. What about Tom Hardy as the Cray Boys?
That is that. I haven't seen that movie. I've just seen a bunch of clips on YouTube. But again, that is, it's hard. That's hard to do because again, I know
it's Tom Hardy putting on two odd accents. What's going on? One's got glasses and one
doesn't have glasses. What about Leonardo DiCaprio and the man in the iron mask, your
favorite movie that you watched last week? I didn't watch it last week. What about Paul
Rudd and I've cloned myself boys. It's a Netflix show. I don't think I've seen a clip.
Oh, boy.
What about it might be Michael B. Jordan?
Maybe. Well, I'll finish it.
What about the Weasley twins from Harry Potter?
I thought they were two separate guys.
No, they've actually they've done a lot of elaborate social media stuff.
This one person to make it seem like in real life, it's two of them,
but it's just one guy.
I think that's true.
That's true. What about this one?
What about Christian Bale?
This is a spoiler and um other prestige the stage
No, what about Adam Sandler and Jack and Jill? No, so it's sinners Michael B Jordan, I think it might be all right you and no point that's a spoiler for the movie sinners. No, it's not
Yes, it is. No, you cannot say that here. I forbode it
You never question it even once. No, you don't. You really don't. It's one guy.
Do you think that that was originally going to be Michael B Jordan and Jonathan Majors?
I mean, did you say that here? I did say that here. It feels like it could have been. Yeah.
It's probably better they did this, I reckon. This would have been...
I think so too. Yeah. Yeah. But yeah.
What about Mickey 17? Oh, yeah
He's clones and whatnot. Yeah. Yeah convincing ones. I easy another one side is here
You know once more of a goblin more Goblin 17 is more of a goblin. That's right. Yeah
So that yeah. Yeah good question. I mean hammered. I mean, yeah cook like but yeah, that is it
Yeah, good question. Armie Hammer, I mean, yeah, crook like, but yeah, that is a, like, it's a good performance and like staggering special effects. Especially from what's like
2010.
And David Fincher.
And David Fincher. David Fincher, I call him.
And he's one more email.
Big D Fincher, I say.
From Kaden.
Yeah.
Now you said you'd take the lead on this one. With the upcoming release of The Surfer and
Dangerous Animals.
Oh.
I'm wondering if, which I believe are Australian horror movies. I was wondering if either of you had any recommendations for good Australian horror
thrillers and we could wait. He's recommended the Royal Hotel or talk to me. So we're going to try
and avoid those. You have a list. I've seen the Royal Hotel. Have you seen it? I've seen it. It's
great. It's very, we talked about this, but like it's a bit wake and fry, which is sort of Australian
horror movie. And it's got that silver surfer in it. It does a surfer lady. I'm going to let you
take the lead on this one.
I don't want to though. I can't think of any other movies. I'm gonna allow you to do it. I don't want to though. People say you don't talk
enough and I agree and I think this is an opportunity for you to think of several movies. I'm not gonna say I don't want it.
All right, I do have a list. I got four. Okay. The relic
which is about it's about it's it's it's more in kind of along with like the Barbadook. It's like
dementia and family lineage. The Barbadook is Australian? Yeah. Oh, it's, it's, it's more in kind of along with like the Babadook. It's like dementia and family lineage.
Babadook is Australian.
Yeah.
Oh, they're not working on the Babadook.
There you go.
And, uh, like family lineage and like the effect that dementia has on, has on, has
on like children, like growing and knowing that that's coming down the line of your
family and like, it's kind of like, it's, it's, it manifests in this house
as like a physical ross of like the person and the house. It's, yeah, it's, it's not
fun.
And that's Australian.
That's Australian. Now you can look that up. You can look that up in the yellow pages.
That's Australian. Also, there's one from, this one's probably at least 10 years old,
maybe older. It's called The Loved Ones. It's 2009. It's called The Loved Ones.
It's directed by Sean Byrne. This one is at... Do you know Xavier Samuel? I don't know if you know Xavier Samuel. So it's basically this girl, she has a crush on this boy from school,
and then... But she's kind of a strange weirdo person. And so she gets her dad to kidnap him,
and we call them school formals in Australia,
but she basically makes this guy do like a prom.
De prom.
In her house.
Oh, I see, right.
It's like torture porn and whatever.
But it's, yeah, it's like drilling into people's heads and stuff.
I don't like that at all.
Natalie Erika James directed The Relic.
Oh, it's got Emily Mortimer as well who's great among other people in it.
Another one I recommend, it's a, it stars Martin Freeman. They'll often do this in like an Australian
horror movie. They'll bring in one guy. They brought in that guy from Alias to do the, that
crocodile. I do want to talk about that crocodile one as well. Mr. Crocod one. Mr. Crocodile. Mr. Crocodile. We're trying to...
It's highly unusual. We're having a wonderful time on this rebel boat cruise, Mr. Crocodile.
Rogue? Rogue. Yeah. We'll get to it. So Cargo is a strange zombie movie. It's also got
Susie Porter in it. It's directed by Ben Howling and Yolanda Ramkey.
And yeah, it's a zombie movie, but it's got an Australian kind of flavor to it.
And it's-
A Vegemite.
Yes, it is.
It happens very early on, but Martin Freeman's character gets bitten and he's carrying a
baby and he has to get the baby somewhere before he turns.
So that's-
Did this get a cinema release?
I don't know if it did.
I didn't watch it in the cinemas.
It was 2017.
It's great.
Is Martin Freeman in Shaun of the Dead?
Yeah, he is, briefly.
Is he in the opposing team?
Oh, it's distributed by Netflix.
Yeah, he's in that other team that walks past, I believe.
He's also in Ali G.
And the last one, as you mentioned, it's Rogue.
So people have seen Wolf Creek, either the movies or the TV series, both seasons.
Charlie Coulson's in one of those series. Rogue is about a giant crocodile.
It's Jaws with a giant crocodile.
The Jaws looks incredible in it.
I think it's Wetter did the crocodile.
It's phenomenal. So if you like the movie Lake Placid, which has got Michael Vartan in it
and also Sam Worthington's in it. There you go. Stephen Curry. This is a great cast.
Stephen Curry? John Jarrett in it, who of course is Mick Dundee in Wolf Creek.
Yeah, that's directed by Greg McClane. I don't think any... no, it was made for
$25 million and it cost... and it made $4.6 million, but I like it.
Oh, Radha Mitchell's in it as well. Yeah, that's a great cast. That is a great cast.
Cool! Here's one more post. This is from the Great Mates group.
Andrew asks, who do you want to face at WrestleMania?
Me.
And I obviously want to face Romain Ript.
Yep.
Played by Ralph Fiennes.
Did you remember the name?
Hello.
Hello.
That's what he says.
That's what he says.
And you're going to fight Ralph Fiennes?
Yeah.
Okay.
And you're going to beat him?
Yeah, because he's old.
Alright.
I believe in you, Mason. I'd be like, hey, think of the Avengers and he'd go, not the American one, the one you
were in.
And he'd be like, oh, then I'd hit him.
Yeah.
Can I pass you the chair?
Yeah, you can.
That's going to be my contribution.
I will fight, remain ripped with you.
Nice.
That's beautiful.
It's too late for me in wrestling.
I'm not going to do it.
I know a lot of people like you should get into wrestling.
It's too much and I won't.
And I know people like, well, there's this is a good jumping off point or whatever. No I won't. I never will.
That's the turnbuckle. That's a great jumping off point.
I wish I could Mace, that I don't have the time to learn another universe.
50 years of another universe. I just can't do it.
Is that? Go on.
The show? It is the whole show.
God that took forever. We're going gonna make these like 20 minutes, mate.
Nah, it took a short...
Just get out.
You know what I mean?
Oh yeah.
Just come in and go, yeah it's alright, and then leave.
Yeah, Sinners is alright.
Oh, we could pre-record that too.
Exactly!
We just have to come in.
Sinners is alright.
We have to come in, we...
Or...
Good performance!
James, we wouldn't even have to do that,
because we just look at the upcoming movies.
Yeah.
And we record them all in one day.
Oh yeah.
We just come in on a day and go, Sinners, it's alright.
Michael B Jordan had his finest.
Yep.
Two Michael B Jordan.
I mean-
Three Michael B Jordan in case there's three.
We'll say that.
Oh, just in case there's a surprise third.
Yeah, we don't want to be called out.
I was going to say you've, you're putting too much effort in there, but you're right.
We don't want to be called out.
Yeah, we don't want people to know we're doing this. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. 20 minutes. Fantastic four. Yeah, actually five of them
Surprise we knew
We're new actually
Bye everyone. It's all right. I think we're gonna like these voices that we're using as well. I think so too
Yeah, yeah, it's got a got a boundless energy to it. I agree. It's beautiful No, I like doing the show and I'll prove it gone. Oh you mean in future. Yeah
I mean, let me make it up to you. Okay
So far but I think next time we'll really prove we enjoy doing this
