It means the Hot Cross buns are going to go away.

We've got the Mandalorian versus Grogu. I guess they don't have Easter. They don't, don't they? In Japan. I don't know. I force it upon them. Whoa! Yeah.

The Mandalorian versus Grogu is a leaked trailer we both watched, which we can talk about. There's also an announcement of a brand new Star Wars film, a brand new animated show. And then don't worry, those movies that you didn't think were coming out, some of them might be. Some other ones. No, some of them might be. I mean, they might be. Yeah.

Yeah. We exist in a realm of infinite quantum possibilities. It's true. Except for these Star Wars movies that are coming out. That Petty Jenkins one? Not coming out. No, that one I think is definitely not coming out. Seems we're getting something which is somewhat similar, potentially.

Yeah, yeah. With a guy, with a director who made a billion dollar movie and an actor. And also that movie about how Owen Wilson worked at Google or whatever. Oh yeah. He did that one. Nice. Let's go to Google, but we're old. The Google boys.

The Google boys. And then we're going to talk about Sinners, Ryan Coogler's latest movie, which we both have things to say about. That's right. Good and bad. I don't think I have anything bad to say about it. You told me you got only exclusively bad things to say about it. I was tricking you.

Oh, yeah So it's set in an alternate Marvel universe where it's the 60s But it's a futuristic retro cool the 60s because the fantastic four are so cool and they give me the technologies though I think it is the 60s. I think they're actually doing that. Yeah, okay, but it is retro cool It's retro cool and it's this idealized version of the retro future past present It's like if the Stark Expo any of that actually worked Yeah

Which it didn't which it didn't and then any of the stuff that did work, he used to put in missiles and shoot at people. Yeah, he did that, didn't he? Yeah. And then he stopped doing it, but he mostly, he did it personally, as opposed to outsourcing it to others. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And Howard Stark would have done that had he had the technology at the time. Yeah, I think he would have, yeah. Said, this is my legacy, Tony, for you to kill a bunch of people. Yeah. got where they are. It seems like they're going on a talk show and they're just like, yeah, they've got the powers, they went to space, they're fantastic. Everyone's got a brother, look at this. You know? Yeah. Yeah. Visible woman is pregnant,

which we heard leaks of, rumors of as well. That's true, yeah. Some claimed it in previous trailers, they'd edited her out, her pregnancy. Some people were like, she's walking like she's pregnant. Yeah, okay. Do you think she'd do invisible belly to do that? Could she make that?

Yet more unrealistic beauty standards for women. I agree. I'm an ally and I'm with you that's right so who you're also an ally Yeah, I like to allies here I'm wondering if they're gonna do because the readers who have two kids in the comics a Franklin and I have Valeria Do we think they're gonna have twins because that would speed up the process wouldn't it? Yeah, get it up the narrative process get it done. Just knock out two kids immediately, you know what I mean? What did Valeria do again? She is, she's very closely allied with Dr. Doom.

Oh no! So she's kind of like, I don't know what her powers are though. That's what I was asking. I think she's just smart, I don't know. Yeah. I mean I'm smart, doesn't mean anything. No, I mean come on man.

I'm an ally. But I mean, Franklin Richards is a mutant, and he has sort of- Everything powers. Well, yeah, depending on the era, he's got like very significant reality altering abilities kind of thing. Yes. Like there's a famous issue where he and his sister are being pursued by a villain and

he's dressed as like a little cowboy with a little cowboy fake gun. And the last moment he turns his cowboy gun into a real gun. Yeah, nice. Just something he can do. That's cool, man Yeah, so apparently yes, she's very smart doesn't have any abilities so you like but she's very smart and that's cool Originally von doom was her name. So yeah, yeah, probably something going on there I can maybe probably my probably maybe maybe they'll skip to all of that. Well speaking of we don't see any dr Doom in there. No, that's true. We do. We do. Did you see that that apparent leaked image of Dr. Doom?

There's no, I'll tell you what. Well, I mean, it can't be because he's in a full suit. Yeah. Like that's that if that if they're not doing a full suit anymore, they're doing dots. They do Robert Downey Jr. shows up in regular. I love it. If it's a concept out, I suppose. Yeah, I don't know. No.

I mean, people said is this Mark Hamill? Because also Robert Downey Jr. apparently had a big art, I suppose. Yeah. I don't know. No. I mean, people said, is this Mark Hamill? And people are like, well, that's on the invitation. And people are like, is that what Dr. Doom's going to look like? I mean- How's that going to fit in the helmet? Great question. Is he going to have a swoopy-doop? If it is real, and I agree with you, I don't think it is, I think maybe for a lot of the movie, because they're paying so much for him, they will have armor, no helmet.

Yes, absolutely. Or some other kind of, he'll become Doom at the end. He's like, no, I'm Doomsday. But not like DC Comics. Not exactly. Like Marvel Comics, they'll say. Yes. Yeah.

What else is, oh, we finally get to see what Reed Richards' stretching looks like. Looks pretty good. I don't mind it. Yeah, it's not bad. It's never been done great. Cause I saw an interview with Pedro Pascal where he said- Octopus stuff. He based it on the noble octopus.

I don't think he said the noble octopus, but we know they are. He said the brilliance of an octopus. Oh, the brilliance of the noble octopus. But then he said not in any literal physical translated way, but I put it in my subconscious. So it's acting. Okay. Yeah. So he's sort of- Pretending to be an of pretending he's got the subconscious of an octopus in his head now. So whenever you see him on hot ones or you know, yeah, on the red carpet or whatever, just know he's got the subconscious of an octopus now and he can't get rid of it. Whenever he's in

a fish tank just know he's that's right. The octopus. Whenever you're in a Chinese restaurant, you get to pick out something from that big tank. Yeah. Just know if you pick out Pedro Pascale, that's cruel actually. Chuck him in the boiling water. Leave him in there. Leave him in there. Or purchase him and let him go free. Let him free, yeah. Throw him out in the street. Throw him down the drain. What else? I mean a lot of stuff in this trailer. We got Ben Grimm. Pulling a big tanker. And well he's pulling a big tanker, which which is incredible

you know have a look at that in slow-mo or like you had a good look at that because it gets a CGI character interacting with presumably CGI water and yeah a real model of a ship or whatever like that's just showing off That's like avatar to apparently a lot of this is practical a lot of model work like Galactus is a lot of guy in suit stuff Okay, alright. So I think they're using or they're saying they're using kind of like. I would love that if Galactus was just guy in suit. Yeah. You know what?

You know I would love that guy in suit and then a cardboard city. I would love that so much. Oh, Mason, you're gonna love it. We see his big foot. We do see his big foot. Yeah, but is he big enough to eat a planet? He's probably got a big ship and whatever. He's got a big ship and like his size for people who are gonna, but there are some people who

are gonna complain about this trailer no matter what. He's really a projection really. Yeah, he doesn't look like that. Because you can't comprehend him so it's just kind of what he appears like. Sometimes he's a cloud. Yeah, sometimes he's a cloud. But we also see Ben Grimm lifting up a little green Volkswagen. A lot of people have compared that to the first appearance of Superman on the first

action comics where he's, you know, hurling that. Subtle dig at James Gunn and Zack Snyder. I think so, yeah. Which I don't like. I don't like it at all. Yeah. I also see this version of Silver Surfer, Charla Bell. Yeah, who's...

Julia Garner. Yeah, but there'll be... that's this universe. I know people having a cry about this female silver. Well, here's the thing. Well, I think people are having a cry about this. Yeah, because it's working. Yeah. What if Black Panther was white? What do you think? Oh, that's a really good point. Actually, white chicks. You ever seen it? Could they? Yeah. I think they're going to make a sequel. They're going to like watching this trailer.

Instantly, like within five seconds, you're like, oh, I see why they've done this. They haven't done it for equality reasons or whatever. It's because they need to have a love interest for Johnny Storm. That's what this is. And if I had to put money on it, I would say at the end of the movie, Johnny Storm has to make the choice of not pushing the button and Galactus destroys the universe or he does push the button and the world is saved but... He can't get a big kiss. He can't get a big kiss from the Silver Surfer and that's what happens.

I'd choose the kiss. Yeah I know you would because you're a low dirty guy. I'm an ally! Yeah because that's true actually. Yeah that's what it is. Yeah. That's what it is because they can't because the read and sue romance is set in stone. They've got a kid now.

Yeah. I assume is there an Alicia master's character for Ben Grimm? Maybe. But they need, they need a hot romance. They need a, they need a captain America agent card or they need a pepper pots, Tony Stark, whatever. He followed her into space in the trailer and he was like, and then his fire went out, but not the fire in his heart.

That's so true. Isn't it? His heart is on fire. That's bad. Yeah. Yeah. She put it out. Yeah. Yeah. Big bucket of water. I know he mentioned making Johnny Storm more modern

and some people didn't like that because he's like, well, maybe it doesn't play as well to just make him like he was in the early 2000s. Just nothing really beyond a, and that's not strictly true. Yeah. Just like a guy who likes snowboarding and chicks. But I don't know. I got that kind of the cocksure kind of attitude from some of this. Maybe this will be bad. I don't know. I'm not, I gotta say this got me more excited than I have been for it. Yeah. But yeah, well, I guess we'll see. I also like when the press was like, Hey, Reid, are we going to get out of this? And he's like, I don't know. Yeah. Why'd you ask me? Well, you're the guy, man. Oh, yeah. I don't want to be the guy. Well, you are. You made yourself the guy. Neither guy. Wow. Yeah. Warfare, yep. So he- That has uh what's his face? Yeah. The guy Johnny Stone. Johnny Stone. Joseph Quinn. That guy and it's got um he just

basically talks about every movie he's ever written on or I didn't I forgot this but he wrote The Beach the book uh-huh and then it got adapted into the movie and him Danny Boyle and they did a bunch of collaboration together including the movie Sunshine. And that All Saints song. All Saints song correct. Um. Is that the the song about the beach? Yeah. I'm not gonna do it. Yeah. Yeah. So yeah, anyway, so he's talking about 28 days later and how that came about. I can't remember what it's somewhere on YouTube. Just type in Alex Garland movies. It'll maybe I'll do it now for everybody.

That's great. Um, but I also learned that he, apparently he sort of co-directed Dread in a way. Yeah. Which was the long standing rumor I think. Because it sort of clashed with the actual director and then. Yeah. But in hindsight he was like that guy went through a lot of stuff. Right. Which isn't fair for him. A lot of flaws. Yeah. He said by the time he got to Ex Machina and they were like what an amazing directorial debut and he's like I what an amazing directorial debut. And he's like, I've been directing,

I've been doing stuff. I've been in the trenches. Yeah, man. I've been copping grenades. It's a GQ, it says Alex Garland breaks down some of his most iconic films. Oh, and that's not it, cause that's only, oh no, that's 41 minutes, that's good.

That is good. That's what you want, Mason. Anyway, you were saying the first one, it was the idea behind zombies making, cause he, Fast and Zombies, they did it before, Zack Snyder, he felt like that hadn't been one for a while. And then on the next one, because there's a 28 weeks later, he's like, I don't know, it just felt more like they're making it because and that's I think 28 weeks later is an okay film. I don't think it's

great. He was like, it's kind of like, it's a sequel, you know, they kind of wanted it more than it came organically. And this one, which Danny Boyle is directing, but he's written is, um, fuel. He says he's excited for it. Well, he would be because it is coming out. That's true. Anyway, all British people living on a little island with a bridge. Yes. And every now and then they have to go out and, um, I don't know, collect some

fruit or whatever they do. Sure. Absolutely. And it's got, uh, cause I've got to make a Blum on. Yeah. It's got not Morbius. It's got Craven. Craven.

It does. Yeah, that's right. It would, he has a name. Yeah. I feel like Aaron Taylor Johnson. I shan'tius, it's got Craven. It sure does, yeah that's right. He has a name. And this looks like it could very well be it. Yeah, I didn't, I mean nobody liked Craven. And I didn't think he was good in it, but I don't know whether that's anything to do with him or did the whole package just blow. Did you think he was good in Nosferatu? I think he's pretty good in Nosferatu. Gordesa! This does a lot of that stuff.

I think you need one of those guys in that sort of movie. So I think he's not due. Oh, he's already done one? Yeah, I think he did a good one. This could be a bad one then. This could be a bad one. It's fine. There's no skin off my nose.

Okay, great. If it's a bad one, because he already had a good one. So he's not due for a good one in my opinion. Apparently Killian Murphy is like in this this but not this isn't his movie And the next one will be more focused on his character. Who's those people haven't seen it. We did a movie commentary actually on it He's the scarecrow is that scarecrow? That's right He's Batman's the scarecrow. So yeah, because they're in 20 weeks later. I can't remember no, okay Anyway good for him for surviving 28 years.

Yeah, I know, right? That must be hard. Anyway. I mean, all these people did. Yeah. This has a touch of the Mad Max's to it. You know, it's got a real cult. There's some cult situations going on.

The priest is like, I love reckoning. I love, I'm getting murdered by zombies, but that's good for me, actually. Come on, man. Come on, man. It's got Jodie Comer as well, and Rafe Fiennes. Great. Is that what he got? No, he got ripped for that version of The Odyssey, didn't he?

Okay. 20th of June this comes out and next year we're getting 28 years later The Bone Temple and that is written by Alex Garland but it's directed by Nia da Costa. Oh she did the marvels. She did the marvels and recently she came out and she's like, I don't know, man. Yeah, Marvel, you know? Yeah. At this point, you could just go Marvel and they go, yeah.

Yeah, I haven't watched it, but she did the Candyman reboot, which is apparently good. So yeah, I, yeah, that's 28 days all the time. So these were shot back to back. And I think that one's more Killian Murphy, centric and heavy. Centric and heavy. Speaking of horror though, Mason, bloody look outside.

I'm just having a quick look at this trailer. Bloody look outside if you want to see some of the horror. Let me ask you this, before we move on. The 28 Days Later universe, is everywhere else fine? I don't know. I know he said the initial idea of this one, and I don't know whether it's in this movie, is one of the ideas was it was going to be subtitled and it was going to be Chinese special forces coming into the UK. Oh, to finally figure out what's going on.

I think that would have been incredible. Maybe there's a bit of that in this. We do have some special forces. Maybe there. I wonder if they're like, we can't, you know, there's a. It's looking like it's gonna have a 45 to 50 US opening. That's pretty good It's pretty good for an R rated movie and that's also Conservatively the looking at like the early tracking, it might be a little bit more than that. Not to brag, but I bought my ticket. I didn't even check what the rating was. No? No? What's the brag here?

When you said not to brag, if it was a brag, what would that look like? Didn't even have to worry about whether it was an MA or not. You didn't have to show your ID. That's exactly right. Didn't have to worry about it. I don't know how you walk around, Mason. Just in your own body and mind. Oh, yeah Get great outcome for an R-rated movie, how will it fair the you know, the next few weeks? We don't know you probably pretty well, but I live in the future

I feel like this one will kind of tick along nicely for a while. I don't know that for a fact But of course, what do you think the story was? Oh, come on, mate Yeah, this is a bit where you tell us what the story is about, but you can't do too many spoilers. Okay. Like the spoiler that's in the trailer, which I didn't watch. I thought you did. No, but I assumed what I thought the spoiler was going to be.

It's yeah, it's what happens. All right. So it's set in the 1930s. Yep. And there's two brothers, the smokestack twins, smoke and stack. And you might be like, are they really brothers? No, it's one man. In real life. In real life, it's one man is real life in real life

It's both. It's Michael Jordan and Michael C. Jordan. That's correct. Yes They they were their army boys. Yep, but then they came back from the army They went up to Chicago to do some honest good entrepreneurship. Yep, but now they're back in their hometown, which I think is Mississippi. Yeah Which is a small town. That's a small town of Mississippi And they're they've got they've got a bunch of money and a bunch of booze, a bunch of illegal booze. And they're gonna use that money to open up a juke joint. And everybody's so happy to see them.

Especially all their ex-lovers. Yeah, they love that. Who are very mad at them. And the people they shoot, who they used to know. That's right. And some new friends they're gonna shoot. They're gonna shoot some new people. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. But they's and some new friends. They're gonna shoot gonna shoot some new people. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, but they're they

But they've got a new they're gonna new pal. Yeah, they're a little cousin. Yep Sammy Sammy and he has he's he's a he's a sharecropper, but he's also he's a he's a guitar playing man But he's so good and they say legend has it if you're so good at playing it the guitar like me James As we've established that was foreshadowing earlier wasn't just a coincidence that if you're so good at playing guitar in somebody's house playing Wonderwall you can summon great evil. Yeah. You don't want to do that. No, it's good.

It's good. Everyone's like, wow, this is transcending space and time. Oh yeah, that's true. But also someone's going to show up who's crook. Yeah, that's right. They're like, what's this? Yeah. I want to get involved and no spoilers, but that happens because otherwise there wouldn't be a movie. No.

Otherwise it would be called Good Guitar Man. Good Guitar Man. That's right. The movie. The movie. Yeah. And Grogu. And Grogu versus Grogu. Who's from the past. Yeah. If we can be clear. That's right. So this is, I mean, this is in the trailers. This is also a vampire movie. Correct. Which you might forget for a large portion of this movie because it it really it's kind of like two movies I guess and I think it balances both of those very well. Mm-hmm. Yeah, I saw someone say this is like a We're going back to a classic sort of 90s genre film. It's there's a bit of from dusk till dawn about this as well Yeah, because that's a movie about gangsters and whatnot.

And then all of a sudden there's a snake vampire woman in it. And the strongest element of this I would say, and this isn't to take away from anything else, is the music in this is fucking incredible. The music supervisor is Ludwig Gohansson. Who's done a bunch of other stuff. He did the Mandalorian theme. Did he? Yeah, he did. Is that the one that goes...

And you'd hope so because this is a movie, you know, about music. Primarily. And at a certain point it just becomes all about the music. You forget about the vampires.

Yeah. But even though they haven't forgotten. No. And they're hanging around. They're ready to do some vampire stuff. There's one particular sequence, which I guess I won't fully spoil, where Sammy's playing the guitar and singing, and they mention how music kind of transcends space and time, and you can summon spirits from both the past, present, and the future, and you get that

in one shot. Vanilla Rice is there. Vanilla Rice is there, EminM is there yeah Benson Boone arrives yeah he does a flip who else is there Imagine Dragons are there yeah yeah Everlast is there yep Maroon 5 Maroon 5 show up exactly all the greats you know what I mean you know, but it's they it weaves throughout like these different styles and genres of music in this one shot. Machine Gun Kelly. And I, you know, I don't know how else to explain that sequence other than like I could feel it.

Does that make sense? Like you could I could literally feel it in my body. It was, I don't, I don't think I've had- That's called music. It is, but it's not just that. I don't think I've experienced like a moment like that watching anything ever. Yeah. So that was just wild to me. Yeah. Oh, and there's vampires. There is vampires. A great cast, obviously the Michael B. Jordans. Yep. There's Michael B. Jordan and Michael C. Howell.

Miles Caten is Sammy Moore, who's their little cousin. Great. Hailey Steinfeld. Yeah, so Hailey Steinfeld is in this. She is a white passing black woman because her grandfather is half black, I think. Which is true of Hailey Steinfeld in real life. Yes, that's right.

Which I learned this week. Very good, and she is the woman that Stack left behind. So they came back from the war, they came back to Mississippi, and then they both built lives, and then they just left to do gangster stuff in Chicago. And now they're back in Bratistan. Cool stuff, get cool suits.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Woonmi Misako is Smoke's lost love. She plays Annie. She's also, she's B15 in Loki. Oh, she is, of course. Yeah. She's great in this. She's really great.

Yeah. I've really liked her. Yeah. We got a Delroy Lindo appearance. Amazing. Incredible. Always amazing. Always amazing.

Delroy Lindo. He's a guy who's, he's an alcoholic and he's- He's an guy who's, he's an alcoholic and he's a, he's, he's an incredible bluesman. He's a bluesman and he's, he's, you know, done a, done a kind of a, a low paying gig for years and years and he gets the opportunity to, to do the first night of this juke joint for a lot of money and beer and beer and he's going to take that chance. Yep.

Um, yeah, good cast. Omar Benson, Miller's great. Jack O'Connor plays one of the vampires. Yeah, it's just, it's amazing. They're all, everyone's very good. If I had any complaints, go on. I don't. Wow. They're all good. Yeah. If you had any complaints, you're an ally, so you wouldn't, you wouldn't voice them with you. I wouldn't either way. Yeah. I also think in terms of the, the, I liked the vampire stuff in this because they don't try and do a, like a scientific explanation for, and there is a place for that and I like that, but in this because they don't try and do a like a scientific explanation for and there is a place of that

And I like that but they're just like these are magic vampires Yeah, they don't like garlic if they want to get inside they have to be invited They've got this kind of shared collective consciousness kind of memory situation Yeah, I thought it was very like a very sort of traditional vampire we can sort of fly but they had it sort of modern elements I like the fact that so much of this movie seems to a lot of it is a transcending space and time Yes, the shared consciousness thing feels like a modern thing But a lot of the you know having to be invited that feels like an old thing Yeah, I think also it's really interesting because they've got that kind of shared consciousness and it's not the not vampiric in the sense

So like if you kill the one who bit you that you'll turn back into a person. It's just we I mean, presumably this like branch of vampirism goes back to Vlad the Impaler or whatever. Maybe. So there's no kind of Vlad the Impaler. Thank you. There's no going kind of there's no going back to that. And a lot of a lot of what they do is to get people on board and There's this thing around them and music and targeting specific Artistic people because that enhances their abilities and it seems as if they've also they've all have They themselves have a history of music and song which

Who knows how long that even goes back? So they're collecting those kind of stories and what I liked about them is that they were, they had a quite a compelling argument. Yeah. Because they're not racist. They're all predominantly white. But, you know, this is like, it's prohibition era, it's Jim Crow era, you know, black people and white people aren't supposed to, you know, the clan is sort together. The clan is still around even though they say they're not. Yeah. And these vampires are like, you know, if you could use this to fight back against the clan, we're all we could all be in it together. It was very like class

consciousness kind of vibe. And I thought initially, and I think there's an there's an element of like, oh, they're bullshitting. They don't believe this. But I think they do. Yeah. I think it's a way for you to incentivize people to either invite them in or you go out. Yeah. But it seems that they do believe in that kind of, in a fucked up way, yeah, you know that kind of um, I know it unionizing Yeah, and there's this element of um, do we talked about this before recorded?

What did you call it the opposite of Buffy in terms of? Vampirism Oh in the in the Buffy universe when somebody is turned into a vampire their soul is destroyed and sort of Sort of sent out into the you, in tiny little fragments out of the universe. So it's kind of gone. But in this, if somebody is transformed into a vampire, their soul is trapped in the body. Which is bad. That's bad, I think.

Sometimes it's pretty cool though. It seems pretty cool. You can do some cool stuff. Good action sequences. Can I say good action sequences? It's very, it's pretty gory. But I think even when it's the action isn't happening, just the two boys heading back to the...

The camera work in this... Yeah. I've written something down, who have I got here? Hang on, because I wrote down the name of the cinematographer Autumn Durald. Acapul. Acapul, yeah. So she, I saw an interview with her and Ryan Coogler and they were talking about they're inspired by the thing that will be blood the last emperor.

You can see that like there some of this the the shots Yes, there is I mean there are certainly as well, you know, just plot wise there are some elements of the thing Yeah, there's a moment where we have to like learn, you know, the the vampires can't vampires can't enter, you know A building without being invited but perhaps someone's already in there. Maybe somebody's been turned into a vampire in the building And so they had to kind of do a yeah, I need test yeah you know so there's you know there's there is certain there there are some small i like that there were small elements of what has come before but like just a bunch of yeah just new stuff you know i liked also because there's there's a

witchcraft element to as well where like there's there are there is like a level of like protect and you can get in terms of hexes and yeah because smoke's uh partner Annie yeah or former former former flame Annie she is she has some sort of she has some old world mysticism and kind of she'll and he doesn't believe that no he doesn't believe it but he has carried a kind of uh yeah a hex bag a totem with him you know throughout the war and throughout his his Chicago Chicago adventures that seems to have protected him. Also, pretty sexy, you know?

The movie? Yeah. Not voodoo. No, not the voodoo stuff. But I'm saying in terms of like, it doesn't, I think we are getting back to that era of putting sex in movies. But it doesn't feel like it's just like, oh, look at this. What happened to those family values, you know?

Yeah. But we used to rely, et cetera. Very good. But I think there's the way this is placed in the movie, I think it's good. It's good. Yeah. It's good. Sexy movies are back, Mason. Well, I mean, but also, you know, anything vampire related has to have some element of

hornyness to it. It's true. Twilight. Yeah, absolutely. Twilight 2. So horny. Though the horniest Twilight. That's right. Maybe I don't know which is yeah, they're all good They're all good. Yeah Great costuming. I think so too the period era. Yeah Costumes are phenomenal. I agree. Um, I think also a little sport here than stack is I think also Flat cap on he does and a wristwatch.ax. He is. I think also... He's got a flat cap on. He does. And a wristwatch.

Yeah. Those two together, I... Yeah, I notice this a lot in The Flash, which is also a Warner Brothers production, when there's two Ezra Millers on screen. I could pick the face replacement or one was often CGI and I... Yeah, right, right. ... found that really distracting.

There's not a second of this. Because it seems as if, and I don't know how they did it specifically, but they used like body doubles, face replacement, probably deep fakes. Obviously the person who doubled for Michael B Jordan looked enough like him where if you did a face replacement, it's not super noticeable if they did deep fakes. Although if we haven't seen the behind the scenes, maybe he looks nothing like him. Maybe they're just the same person. I just mean like you kind of need to get the basic structure of a person. Think about this. Sinners, Mickey 17, The Monkey, and that Robert De Niro movie. Yeah. Where they're all everybody's twins.

That's true. It's a big year for twins movies. Is it because the technology is way cheaper now to do it? I guess. Or maybe they only have to pay an actor one and a half times? Yeah, that might be it. That might be it. I also thought that they really, aside from the costuming, they did a good job of making the two brothers distinct. I was

never like, which one is this one? And it wasn't just in the costuming. It was also it was a lot of it was performance and attitude and the way it was. Stacks more of a wheeler dealer. Yeah, smoke is a little down on the whole idea. Yeah, when you really drill down into it But but stack is like, yeah, you know, we got we got to make this happen. Absolutely I'm gonna go around and shoot people in the butt. Yeah to make this happen and he's gonna make it happen Should we do some spoilers? Let's do some spoilers. Um, yeah good good action. I wouldn't say yeah action is certainly very good I would say it's there's there's brief bursts of action. It's not an action movie. Most of it is character work and set up and music and dance.

And then there's probably maybe 10 minutes of action in this entire thing, which is fine. But it hits hard. It really doesn't overstay its welcome. It comes and it goes. And there's also an action sequence at the end where it's like, oh, I didn't think this was going to happen. And that was a lot of fun. It comes and it goes and there's also an action sequence at the end where it's like I didn't think this was gonna happen Yeah, and that was a lot of fun. I'm like, but if you could if you Can squeeze it in if the budget stretches to this because there's a bit in the trailer where I'm like

Oh that hasn't happened yet. Where he's firing the Tommy guy. Yeah No, you're gonna get it. Yeah best movie ever great surprised loved it. Best movie ever I mean we'd heard it was good and it was. And I'd be leaving the theater go, wow, movies are good. Because, you know, we recently saw the Minecraft movie and even though you said it was the best movie ever. I didn't say that. I said it was bad. Also, this movie, not attached to a franchise or anything, but it does have a mid credits and a post credits. It does. Yeah. Which we will talk. I mean, I think the mid credits is that it just leads straight into it.

Like it doesn't really stop. So and also the mid credits is it's very important to the movie. So absolutely stay. It's not it's not just a whatever. So I wonder why that I don't know. I mean, I would have meant if knowing nothing about Ryan Coogler, but having watched some videos, you know, about the production of this and etc. Maybe it's just because he wanted to people to stick around and watch the credits and see who was involved in making it Yeah, that that seems like the most logical thing. Yeah, so don't know. Yeah, I know but we all stuck around we did anyways spoilers I mean, it's it's heavy on death sure is most people die. Almost everybody dies

Yeah, I mean I all get turned into a vampire and then most of those vampires die. A couple survive and of course Sammy lives to, I was gonna say the modern day, he lives to at least 1990. So yeah, yeah, yeah. Which we'll talk about the... I loved how, so is it Jack O'Connell who plays Remick, who's the main vampire, who we first see,

he's been turned into a vampire at some point and then he's being chased by Native American vampire hunters. Then he convinces a couple who are clan members to give him sanctuary. And then he turns them into vampires. But I love how over the course of the movie, he keeps transforming and getting weirder. These claws keep getting longer. Yeah.

And you know. But he can kind of, he can switch it on and off. I don't know. Do you think he's, do you think he's like a modernish one or do you think he's from, where do you think he's from? He's not from like hundreds or thousands. Yeah. I got the sense that maybe he was like an old, like European peasant maybe.

Okay. I don't know. But also because they've got the shared collective memory. It's impossible. It doesn't matter. You don't know. Because there's a, there's a, there's a, the Chow, there's a couple of the Chows and they're like Delta Chinese immigrants and they run the local general store and they are turned into vampires at a certain point.

And then suddenly everybody knows how to speak Chinese. Yeah. Yeah exactly So yeah after they do all the vampire stuff and everybody seems to be dead except one of the Michael B. Jordans. Oh, yeah There's a Klan massacre. Yeah, so At the very start of the movie The the smokestack twins show up in Mississippi again And there's an old sawmill and they have enough cash. Yeah, I'm their misadventures in Chicago To do they also got their money by robbing the Irish and the Italians. That's correct Yes, and then the idea is that they the Irish and Italians think the other ones did it

Yeah, right made out and they probably would have got caught at some point. I assume. Yeah, that's the implication Yeah, sorry go on but um and they they purchased it from this guy who They suspect has have client affiliations or at least alike this guy seems like a racist Yeah would be in that era and they're like this this is all the money you're ever gonna get from us Don't come back. Yeah, if you come back here, we'll shoot you. Yeah, and they'll and he's like, oh no But he will yeah, and he comes right at the end. He comes back with all these guys. So this is the, you know, the saw mills overrun with vampires. You know, the remaining good guys fight back. You know,

everybody is, yes, smoke seemingly kills stack, but we don't see it happen. Yep. But we realized that they actually made a deal. Yeah. That stack has to leave, but he can never go to Sammy ever again. Yeah. He can't try and turn him into a vampire. Yeah. But anyway, it's all over.

All the... Can't Michael be Jordan who's left? Can't even roll a goddamn cigarette. Smoke survives till daytime and all the vampires that are pursuing him get stuck in. And they told him also as part of the negotiations to join him that the clan were coming the next day to kill them all anyway. So you probably should get turned into a vampire. And they do, they all show up.

They do show up, but luckily the smokestack twins had foreseen this and they foreshadowed a big trunk of stuff in the back of his truck which contains a bunch of cool army guns and stuff. Yep. Big Tommy gun and he just kills like a big light machine gun and he just lays waste to them and it's super fun. Yeah. It's so fun.

It's very Tarantino kind of. Yeah. There's a real satisfying kind of. Yeah. And it's, it kind of feels like, not that it doesn't belong. That's the wrong word. You don't need it, I guess. Yeah. But it's a real, like, it's very, it's a real satisfying kind of. It really is. Conclusion, not only to like his story, but just, I don't know, just kind of that world and that era. Yeah. and he obviously he doesn't survive it He could have he could have ducked behind that like bail a hay or whatever. Yeah, but I mean he did pretty well

He threw that hand grenade in that in that guy's truck But yeah, he gets he gets shot in the gut and he's on the way out And he dies. Yeah, but then he sees he does machine gun that guy though He does machine gun that guy and then he sees Annie his his former love in there and their child that didn't survive Uh, and he's like well i'm going to heaven probably good. I'm going to heaven. Yeah So you would because after you've seen the vampires you'd be like, oh, yeah Yeah, you know, I guess all things are things all real and I did kill all those clan people. So yes Yeah, but then post mid credits, we cut to 1992.

Oh, I just wanted to quickly say, because all the vampire people disappear, I guess what that would have looked like was a clan massacre. Yeah, right. And they disappeared all the bodies. And I guess Sammy, who's left, who's got a big vampire scratch down his face, I guess it would have just assumed that he was the only survivor of this clan massacre

that happened. Yeah, right. And I guess that that's how they kind of explained it away. I don't really know. Yeah. Anyway, sorry, go on. Cuts to 1992, Sammy's still alive, but now he's Buddy Guy, actual blues musician.

Yeah. And he's performing in a club, and who should rock up, but two very 1990s looking stack and Mary Ely Steinfeld and they're like, hey man, what's been happening? You're cool. Yeah, you're cool. What's been happening the last 60 years? We got all your music.

We think it's cool. We think it's cool actually. Yeah. Yeah, just letting you know. Yeah. I thought that was also interesting. First of all, Michael B Jordan wearing the best 90s Coogee sweater. Oh my god.

That's an Australian original. Is it really? Coogee sweaters are Australian. I didn't know that. Haven't you seen me wear those weird sweaters I wear sometimes? I just thought, I don't know, I didn't know what you were doing. Yeah, all right. Nobody does, man.

No, they're good sweaters. That is one of the best I've ever seen, honestly. Yeah, it's great. I've given that movie. Ah, fiery red and orange. Yeah. Little glasses. I hope they reissue that one.

I got to meet Sugar Ray. Sugar Ray was there. So I also thought... I got a preview of All Star by Smash Mouth. They were there. I just assumed that... I don't know that they didn't have... The vampires didn't have their own agency.

Yeah, right. But I guess they do. Because like, I guess that the bond between those brothers is stronger than whatever vampire law. Yeah, I guess so. And they offer to convert him into a vampire. He's like, nah, I'm good. Yeah.

I don't want that. Yeah. And then there is a post-post credits where. I'll be honest, I did think, I did think Hayley Steinfeld's character did die. I thought she burst into flames, but I guess she lived. No, she ran off. Did she? You see footage of it as well.

Yeah. Okay. Yeah. All right. Good honour. Yeah, I say good honour too. But yeah, then there's a post-post credits and it's Sammy playing music. Back in the day.

There's an article which I think is worth discussing where they did a kind of deep dive into Ryan Coogler's deal with this movie. I was going to read it, but then it was like, you've used up all your free articles this month.

And I went to look at it again and they've taken it down. But I don't know. Maybe it's back up by now, but apparently Ryan Coogler gets full ownership of this movie in 2050. Huh. Apparently. So in 25 years. Yes.

Apparently anonymous Hollywood sources are calling it very dangerous, as well as to say it could be the end of the studio system. Oh, good riddance I say. Coogler has said that he considers the ownership deal a one-off, rooted at least in part in Cinder's focus on themes of black artists' ownership of their own culture. Uh-huh. I don't think if you can get away with it, I wouldn't make this a one-off. If you can make this part of your list.

I mean, there's famous examples of people who they created an IP or a character and they don't own it. Like Stallone famous... I've never heard of one. Stallone, for example, created Rocky, but it is owned by some family or some guy. And I understand, like, I get the point that like, yeah, he did it under, through somebody else's financing. I understand that, but he can't even be co-owner of this character and franchise. Like that's like the amount of money that something like that has made. This might happen with creator-owned, creator-funded projects. I think Passion the Christ is an example where Mel Gibson put up his own money for that,

so he owns Jesus Christ. Oh, that's great. Yeah. Finally, somebody owns that. I'm tied to all these public domain Jesus Christ out there. Tarantino, also, this is a similar deal where he gets the rights to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood in like 20 or so years. I mean, he'll be 80 plus by then whenever this happens.

But it's more the principle of the thing. I think so. I don't see any problem. I mean, if you can, you know, and what's the alternative? Like the studio gets it. Like, who's side do they think people will be on in this? And again, I understand the mechanics of making a movie and the finance of it. But obviously the creative driving force of a thing, you know, they've gestated this idea and built something. I think

that, I mean, also what is this even going to be worth in 20 years? Like how much money is he really going to get for it? You know, I think I like it. I like it in principle years. That's true. How much money is he really going to get for it? I like it. I like it in principle. I love this idea. What I would say also, though, and we mentioned this, I think, when we talked about the Sinner's Trailer maybe a few weeks back or something like that.

There is also a comic book called Bitter Root. Yes. Co-created by Sanford Green, Chuck Brown, and David F. Walker, it's set during the Harlem Renaissance and follows the Sangriers, a family of monster hunters who attempt to cure creatures rather than killing them. The rights to the film adaptation were acquired by Legendary Pictures.

In October 2019, it was announced that Ryan Kuglasev of Harnian and Zinzi Evans would direct the film. So what happened there? But then he's gone to a different kind of monster hunter. I guess there's no, if I had to guess, I would say there's little to no crossover sort of character wise. No.

But it's interesting, right? It is interesting. Yeah. Maybe he was like, this doesn't fit for me, but I would like a different, you know, I would like to do a different vampire hunting thing. It says that Ryan Kugel was in 2019 and then in 2021, Regina King was attached to the project. Did you say that already? No, but that is true.

But I'd heard of this character before. In DC comics, the island of Corteau, Maltese is named after him in the Suicide Squad. He's a cool DC guy. Well, he's not a DC guy, James. And it's sort of very like he'll he'll take you know characters will take journeys to like the Philippines and New Zealand and stuff like that from this era none of it is kind of like Stereotypical kind of you know based on assumptions. It's clearly very well researched and it's you know kind of, you know, based on assumptions. It's clearly very well researched and it's, you know, a lot of, a lot of interesting characters. Everybody's plotting and scheming in a very grown up kind of way. It's not kind of, you know, it's, it's really good. It's not like, wow. It's not like that. Nobody's like, wow, James. But it's a, and it's a, just a, just a, just a, just a wonderful art style. I don't know. It's very, it's quite simple, but he's, it's very expressive art. I do like the art style. I don't know. I think all in all, considering they restructured this entire thing, I think they pulled it off. I think it's a very strong season of Daredevil. Okay. I think the action is generally good. I think the story, it doesn't feel like,

and I know they mentioned it, like it doesn't tread water, I feel like, as much in parts. Like it moves forward. It's propulsive. It's propulsive. You know, you're getting the punishes having his little moments and that in as well. It's not like MCU cameo heavy, which I'm totally fine with. There's even minor players like, I can't remember his name, James Gandolfini's son plays a role in this and he's barely in it, but he's great.

It's also, it does one of the goriest things that have happened in the MCU by far. I'm not up to that episode yet. In the very last episode. I'm gonna spoil it now. Does the kingpin tear somebody's head off or something? Yeah, he basically squashes this dude's head flat and then like you see him like pull the jaw off of a man and he just like crumples his head. It's wild. Because he's got kingpin strength. He's got kingpin strength and so yeah and it's very much,

it is a cliffhanger ending and they're currently filming season two and hopefully, you know, it seems like they've got the direction that they want to go. Right now, finally. Well hopefully two will be you know, extremely cohesive. Now Charlie Cox is great as always. Were you propelled along by this by looking at the the set links for season two and going oh he's got the black suit? No I mean I love that, it looks amazing and he's finally got the D on his chest, the double D's. I get it. Yeah, you would. Yeah. I mean, sure. But that suit looks incredible. Yeah, it's way better than... I don't mind this suit in this season, but I think, yeah, the next season. And he uses more of his billy

club and stuff. Yeah. It's really brutal. Like it's in a way that I don't even think the Netflix one could get away with. And I just even mean that from budgetary wise. Yeah, Ryan. Those things you can do with the violence with a budget that you couldn't do on Netflix. And I think it was Steven Nesta and I who show around, I think it was just the first season. He was like- Of the original. Of the original one. He was like, well, yeah, we would have done more swinging through the city. It wasn't like a creative choice.

Like we wanted to do that. But it's, it's really expensive. Yeah. But now you can. So it's not a flaw that they are making him more athletic and like, yeah, he wouldn't have to be CGI to do this particular move or whatever. It's just that now you can do it. Or he could work a bit, Charlie Cox could work a bit harder.

It happens very early on, but Martin Freeman's character gets bitten and he's carrying a
