Welcome back everybody to another episode of the Weekly Planet, official podcast of
comicbookmovie.com where we talk movies, comics, TV shows, personal vendettas, personal vendettas
and sometimes one of us forgets to hit the record
button then we talk for 10 minutes not this week though certainly not that didn't happen also video
games sometimes sometimes yeah my name is james you might know me as mr sunday with me is always
my co-host nick mason okay last week update here's a sweet update for you uh last week we talked
about star wars it was the big star wars episode. It was a Star Wars episode.
We rambled for a bit.
We rambled for a bit.
Anyway, we talked about last week that one of my earliest memories of Star Wars is I went to a children's birthday party as a child.
Yes, good.
I just want to make that clear.
I was also a child.
Anyway, all of us kids at the party got the gift of our own Star Wars action figure.
Nice.
We all got one to
take home and they weren't i don't think they were in boxes i think maybe it's just the dad's
star wars collection really given away maybe i don't know so okay anyway the point is that's odd
yeah uh the point is that uh all the other kids got like a like a darth vader or a boba fett or a
chewback or a grido even yeah exactly but thewbacca or a Luke Skywalker. A Greedo. A Greedo even, yeah, exactly.
But the character I got was this guy and he was sort of like he had grey hair
and a grey face and a grey beard and like a grey tunic,
like he was some sort of space dentist.
Sure.
Exactly, like a bloody, you know, one of those.
One of those.
I'm trying to think of a Star Wars reference.
Nerf Herder?
There we go, yeah, like Wars reference Nerf Herder? there we go
yeah like a real Nerf Herder
but anyway
this character is so
so minor
that I've since seen
all the Star Wars movies
but I never
I never recognised
this character
in any of the movies
he's such a small role
which is a testament
to how much
Lucasfilm will just
take every single
background
grab anybody
just any background
get the Rancor trailer
yeah exactly
give him a rich backstory.
Anyway, I asked the listeners last week,
a call to action, if you will,
to email in and tweet at me
and let me know what character they think that I got
as a child that disappointed me for years.
And we got a lot of options.
And the most common one and the correct one
turned out to be General Crix Maydean.
Yes!
Which is, you pegged it i said it well you
said some weird combination of syllables i think that's a weird combination of syllables so i think
you've got it okay so i'm going to give you backstory yeah great which will impress you a
lot i guess a cricks maydean all of this stuff i assume is in the movies if you look hard enough
if you look real hard really squint yeah you look at one of the screens. So, Crix Maydean, Imperial Army officer,
who formed and led the notorious Storm Commandos, right?
Tough guys.
Sounds like it.
Sounds tough.
I assume.
Okay, he defected to the Rebel Alliance,
though it cost him his fiancée.
Didn't care for rebels, I guess.
He was like, listen, I'm leaving.
Take Karen.
Take the kids.
Okay, and then he became a Karen. Take the kids. Okay.
And then, okay, he became a valuable part of the rebellion.
Yep.
Leading commando operations, including the commando raid on the second Death Star shield generator.
Is that the best raid of the two Death Star raids?
Nah.
Had the most diversity.
Oh, then, yeah, definitely.
Then, yeah, absolutely.
That was a test to see if you're space racist.
Oh, yes. Spacist. That's right. Okay. So he did that. Then, yeah, absolutely. That was a test to see if you're space racist.
Oh, yes.
Space-ist.
That's right.
Okay, so he did that, so that's very exciting.
Yeah.
And then he continued to serve in the New Republic in the Expanded Universe.
He was killed in action after being captured on a mission to sabotage the Darksaber superweapon.
That was like the third or fourth Death Star.
Yeah, exactly.
Durga the Hutt.
Yeah, very exciting.
Cousin of Jabba the Hutt. So he sounds like a real tough guy, right?
Yeah, the toughest tough guy.
Very exciting.
I'm surprised you don't remember him.
Well, look, if you look at him, ultimately what you see,
and see if you agree with me on this,
he looks like a middle-aged man who has been forced against his will
to dress like a janitor, like for Halloween.
Like he's got theeen like he's got the
look and he's got the demeanor of that he also looks like his mom cuts his hair yeah absolutely
yeah i mean he's bald she she's aware that he's balding and she combs it over just to be just to
be real nice to him and also the reason that i guess i never pegged that because he's in return
of the jedi yeah yeah the reason i never picked it is if you look at that character if you look
at the action figure like I said
grey skin
grey hair
grey beard
grey uniform
doesn't actually look all that much
like the character
because he's got like a
tan uniform
there's a picture next to it
yeah there's a picture next to it
on the action figure
look it's so
this character is so minor
that they couldn't even bother
getting the license
the likeness right
still release the action figure
though wouldn't they
anyway that's informed my opinion of Star Wars for whole life put your head in like a like a bag
like a loose plastic bag of star wars toys and you pulled him out i think they were wrapped up
they were they were definitely i remember was that one does that one have your name on it
specifically because they're like we'll give this to nick mason yeah i think it was a grab bag i'm
pretty sure it was like a like maybe a kind of a Lucky Dip kind of situation.
They were all wrapped up.
Lucky, hey?
Yeah.
Lucky.
Anyway, thanks, Wookieepedia, for the information.
That's like a 20-year mystery solved, though, isn't it?
Yeah, great.
And that's the kind of stuff we do here at The Weekly Planet.
We solve your problems.
That's another one of the things we do.
Add it to the front.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Well, look, we're talking Star Wars and disappointing Star Wars things, I guess.
Great.
Here we go.
You've met with Josh Trank.
Yes.
He's directing the second Star Wars.
He directed one of those movies you're always telling me to watch that I never do.
There we go.
I did not watch Chronicle.
No.
That's fine.
Yep.
Well, he's also directing the Fantastic Four reboot.
That's right.
Anyway, the first Star Wars anthology spinoff movie is called Rogue One.
We talked about it last week.
Sounds good.
What's his name's doing it?
Gareth Edwards, who did Godzilla.
Yep.
That's all going swimmingly.
If you're worried about that, don't be.
Are you attempting to use a new word every week now?
That's right.
Okay.
Going swimmingly.
Can you see it written on my head?
Yeah.
Okay.
But his Josh Trank's movie, though, it said that he left the project.
It said it was all very amicable.
And he walked away from a multi-million dollar Star Wars movie because he probably didn't like it that much.
Amicably.
Do you think that's what happened?
No, I think somebody was hard to work with.
Yeah.
Well, that's the rumors on the set of the Fantastic Four.
That he's hard to work with.
Yeah.
Well, apparently he's talented. And I'll agree with that from the one movie I've seen
of his and I don't mind the Fantastic Four trailers.
It looks okay, I guess.
It remains to be seen, but he's been real difficult to work with.
Apparently he did like $100,000 damage to the house he was staying at while they were
filming.
What?
How?
I don't know.
I guess he probably drove like a Corvette into a pool or something.
But that's Corvette damage.
That's separate.
Yeah, that's exactly.
That is.
You're right.
Absolutely.
Unless bits of the Corvette got caught in the pool filter.
Oh, yeah.
But then that's pool damage.
You can never get that out.
Believe me, I don't.
Yeah.
Okay.
Just so we know, I went to Netflix and I looked up Chronicle and it's not there.
So I'm not going to watch it.
Okay.
Once again.
But I'm probably going to watch Chronicles of Riddick again.
Ah, yeah.
Okay, great.
The worst Riddick movie.
No, Riddick is the worst Riddick movie.
The first one
or the latest one?
The latest one.
Really?
Yeah.
Okay, I'll pay that.
Chronicles of Riddick is...
Just wandering around in the desert
for too long?
Which is the same as the first one.
Oh, yeah.
They're all the same.
They're all the same.
No, no.
Two is very different.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So, yeah. I mean, we're going to get it.
I mean, it's still not coming out for a few years.
I think they only start filming it maybe even next year or a year after.
So I don't think it really matters that much.
Is there anyone you'd like to see take it on?
Robert Redford.
You know what?
He'd probably be pretty good.
I know, right?
I like Robert Redford.
Clint Eastwood.
Make Clint Eastwood direct a Star Wars movie.
I was thinking more Matthew Vaughn.
But we know what we're going to get with Matthew Vaughn.
Good movie.
I want a loose cannon.
Okay, sure.
Harrison Ford.
Get Harrison Ford to direct a Star Wars movie.
Make him do it.
Sneak it into his contract and he doesn't know.
And then he shows up on set one day and they're like,
also you're directing this.
Sometimes you're going to have to direct yourself.
Yeah.
Am I in it?
Yes, you are.
Well, that's amazing.
Great.
Well, so I'll keep you posted on that, Mason.
Thank you.
Second bit of news.
Did you see Stephen Amell on set as Casey Jones?
I did.
They've built the mask and everything.
They've taken Stephen Amell
and they've put a mask on him and that is the extent of it. That's pretty much it. They've built the mask and everything. It looks pretty great. They've taken Stephen Amell and they've put a mask on him.
And that is the extent of it.
That's pretty much.
And they've given him a hockey stick.
Hoody hockey stick mask.
Yep.
Pretty good.
I would have thought long hair.
Casey Jones normally has long hair, doesn't he?
Yeah.
Sort of greasy, mullety kind of hair.
Yeah.
I like Stephen Amell.
He'll probably do a bang up job.
Oh, absolutely.
And obviously he was cast because of Arrow, which is fine,
because he's good in that.
I think he was probably cast because of that photo of one of our listeners
wearing our Weekly Planet shirt standing next to him in a Comic-Con.
That's probably what it was, right?
More likely, yeah.
Yeah, definitely.
That's on his LinkedIn, I believe.
Yep.
So, yeah, that movie's coming along, isn't it?
Still haven't seen the first one.
Oh, yeah.
Probably fine.
It's fine, right?
Is it on Netflix?
I don't know. I'll check later. Check if Chronicles of Riddick is there while you're there yeah. Probably fine. It's for their fine, right? Is it on Netflix? I don't know.
I'll check later.
Check if Connick was a Riddick is there while you're there.
Okay.
It's still there, I should say.
Yeah, it's definitely there, yeah.
So, you know, Kingsman was a movie that came out.
Yeah.
We liked it, didn't we?
Yeah, I liked it a lot.
Matthew Vaughan.
Yeah, I know.
Who you don't think is a loose cannon enough.
Yeah, exactly.
Yeah.
Straight down the line, that guy.
You know what you're going to get.
Do you?
Weird anal sex jokes. There was, yeah. There. Straight down the line, that guy. You know what you're going to get. Do you? Weird anal sex jokes.
There was.
Yeah, there was some of that.
Apparently Fox, though, are developing a Kingsman sequel.
Kingsman 2.
Spoiler alert, I guess, if you haven't seen Kingsman.
Colin Farrell dies in that.
Colin Firth dies in that also.
Correct.
Both Colins die.
So I guess you'd have to do it without him.
Do you reckon the lead guy can do it without him
i reckon i reckon they'll replace firth yeah with jeffrey rush yeah that's my guess absolutely that's
my guess they'll i reckon they'll need i reckon because the dynamic was fun yeah i reckon they
will the character will be different but they'll they'll add in another kind of well-regarded actor of that generation who's
british-ish yeah british so jeffrey rush is british british british exactly yeah what about
sean connery i think you get sean connery uh tell me you wouldn't want to say that okay
here's the criteria for sean connery being in a movie at this point yep one he doesn't understand
the script so i think yeah he's in he'd be in for
kingsman i think can i show you a picture yes of present day sean connery okay okay just for the
record teenage mutant ninja turtles is not on netflix but ninja turtles the next mutation is
is secret of the use no yeah isn't that a tv show yeah okay there you go sean connery present day
yeah he's a confused homeless man is what he is there.
Type in Sean Connery 2014, first image.
Yeah, he's wearing sweatpants.
He's wearing like a going down to the, walking down to the shops kind of jacket.
He's got some glasses on a chain.
Oh, he's got it all.
Yeah, no, that's great.
Well, you know, he's like late 80s, right?
Yeah, exactly. So good for him. I can't blame him for that. Yeah. Well, you know, he's like late 80s, right? Yeah, exactly.
So good for him.
Can't blame him for that.
Yeah.
Can you blame him for hitting women?
Yeah, absolutely.
You can do that.
Yeah.
Okay, good.
Spider-Man, apparently, for the new Spider-Man movie, which apparently might be called Spider-Man
the New Avenger.
Okay, sure.
I like that title.
Yeah.
Because Captain America was the first Avenger.
Iron Man was the Middle Avenger.
That was what that one was called.
That was cool.
Yeah.
Yeah. Captain America was the first Avenger. Iron Man was the middle Avenger. That was what that one was called. That was cool, yeah. So, yeah, the two names are Acer Butterfield,
who you know from Ender's Game.
He's Ender.
Okay, sure.
And the other one is Tom Holland,
who I'm not familiar with as much,
but he's like a British actor.
He's British-ish.
Oh, great.
Okay, great.
We'll put him in Kingsman 2.
What I like about these guys are...
We get the Acer guy
and the Tom Holland guy.
We put them in a long trench coat together
and Tom Holland is the British guy on the top,
so he's the mentor.
Okay, great.
Gotcha.
Sorted.
Brilliant.
So what I like about these guys,
they're not like Andrew Garfield level
of good looking and hair.
Oh, yeah, for sure.
They just look like teenagers.
And they're both like 18, so that's good.
Which means if you're 18, you've probably grown as much as you're going to grow.
Right, so height-wise.
Height-wise, you know what I mean?
You're not going to have a weird spurt at some point, probably.
Some people do.
But, yeah, both of those are fine.
Absolutely.
Next.
Oh, here's some news, which is probably only of interest to us two.
Yes!
Red Dwarf's coming back.
Oh, I saw that.
To two new seasons of Red Dwarf.
Isn't it like 2016, 2017?
Yes.
I don't care for that, quite frankly. It's a long time.
So updates every week, I think.
No, I'm joking.
I'm excited for that.
I'm excited for that as well.
I mean, it's the last few seasons of Red Dwarf,
for those who don't know British sci-fi comedy series.
British-ish.
Yeah, it's very British-ish.
It's been a mixed bag, I feel,
but Red Dwarf X, which was the last season, was quite solid.
Agreed.
Good, solid fun jokes.
More comedy than it was sci-fi, which I think is much better.
Which is important.
Yeah.
The sci-fi took a back seat, would you say?
Yes.
Absolutely.
Well said.
Ben Affleck has been seen, Mason, around town.
Oh, yes.
But more specifically on the set of The Suicide Squad.
Interesting.
Now, you've seen him out of Batman costume,
but there's also another image of him,
what's presumed to be him.
There's a man under a black sheet.
Oh, yes. To hide what I presume is a Batman costume, because you a man under a black sheet. Oh, yes.
To hide what I presume is a Batman costume
because you can see the ears.
Pointy ears.
Great.
So good.
So that means Batman's in Suicide Squad, I guess.
Interesting.
That's pretty cool.
I don't think he'd have a massive role in it,
but that's pretty great.
I'm all for that.
That means they're bringing the universes together, man.
In 10 years.
Did you see the image also,
Will Smith was on set as well as Deadshot? I did not see that. He was in his kind of civvies, right? together, man. In 10 years. Did you see the image also, Will Smith was on set as well as Deadshot?
I did not see that.
He was in his kind of civvies, right?
Oh yeah, uh-huh.
But there was a guy there
who was sort of dressed like Deathstroke.
Okay.
Mask, kind of armor.
And people are like,
who is this guy?
What is it?
Is that supposed to be someone in this?
Oh, it might have been Deadshot or Deathstroke
that they thought it was.
I can't remember.
And everyone was very confused.
And then somebody worked out that the mask he was wearing was like a $79 hockey mask.
And then it was revealed that that guy was just a fan who dressed up,
who wandered on to set.
Much better.
Yeah.
Very good.
And he was asked to leave.
Good.
As he should have been.
Nice.
A for effort though.
Yeah.
Okay.
So Batman in the Suicide Squad where do you think
do you reckon
maybe
how big is the
Joker's role
in this going to be
I reckon he's the
antagonist
okay
so maybe Batman
because you can't put
the Joker in the
Suicide Squad
no exactly
like maybe briefly
yeah
but he's going to
have his own agenda
yeah totally
here's my speculation
is that Batman
shows up at the end
to bring him back to Arkham okay or even the start yeah put him in at the start yeah okay good great
or maybe there's like they have a because you know what i like those i always like the scenes
in the comics where batman goes to visit the joker at arkham oh yeah and they have like a
conversation or whatever yeah okay that could work anything like that you know i don't think i don't
think you need a big batman action sequence No. They'll probably do it though.
Ah, yeah.
Look, I reckon, well, that's a good question because I imagine they'd have to, the more action sequences they, because it's Affleck, the more scenes they put him in, the exponentially
higher fee he has to get paid.
Yeah, well, that's probably true.
So I reckon it's, I reckon maybe post-credit sequence or something.
Yeah, sure.
You know?
Yeah.
Something like that.
All right, cool.
Yeah.
Now, apparently there was a story that went around this week as well,
with the DC films at the moment.
Nobody is in charge.
As in, there's no, like, they're sort of like,
Zack Snyder's kind of overseeing the universe,
but he's busy making Batman v Superman.
Right.
And then making the follow-up Justice League movies.
So he's got a say in it, but he's not like,
they don't have like a Kevin Feige. No one's steering this ship yeah this is this is a story anyway and apparently
writers are competing for projects so for the wonder woman project yeah five writers are writing
different treatments and now it's be like that one's pretty good we'll do that one you know
what's going to be great is when they start chopping them up and just smashing them together
that's going to be some great storytelling.
Apparently one of the writers for Aquaman,
I'm not sure which one,
like finished his or was halfway through.
And then they're like,
oh, by the way, we're taking the character in this direction.
He was like, oh God.
Yeah, exactly.
That's exactly where it's going to go.
And if, well,
if there's nobody steering the ship as well,
there's going to be a lot of,
and this happens with,
you know,
just general superhero comics is,
you know,
one writer will write this movie,
and they'll be like, okay, we'll kill that character and that character
because they're not relevant to the plot or whatever.
And the next movie will come around, and the next writer will be like,
I like those characters.
I needed Superman.
Yeah, I needed...
Come on.
I needed him for Superman, the movie.
So let's bring him right back.
And so there'll be a lot of that, I feel.
Yeah.
Wasn't it going to be a plan that they were gonna
leave every movie
on a cliffhanger
that was a rumour
yeah
I mean this is also
like a rumour
so everything's rumours Mason
everything's rumours
everything's
you know how they could
quash all these rumours
actually put some movies out
yeah
you know what
I was thinking about this
the other day
for
maybe I wasn't
maybe I was thinking
about it now
the point is
if DC make one good movie
yeah that'll shut everyone up won't shut me up no i will like do you know what i mean like i feel
like man of steel got a mixed reaction but if man of steel had got the reception of say the dark
knight yes or the first iron man or the avengers or winter soldier whatever then everyone be like
okay we have faith in you yeah yeah so you're right like
you said just put out some movies thank you preferably some good ones yeah but i'm gonna
climb credit when i start putting out movies did you put in one of those scripts yeah what a what
a dem five all right well what are we here to talk about this week mason oh age of ultron right oh
yeah i was gonna go personal vendettas but let's Do you have one to settle this week? We'll see how it goes.
Okay, great.
Age of Ultron.
It's been out for a couple of weeks in this region of the world.
It's just come out in the US and I think maybe Kanada.
Is that how you say that?
Yeah, Kanada.
Yeah, Kanada.
Like Saladas.
Yeah.
Yep.
So it's had the second biggest domestic opening of all time in the US
behind Harry Potter 7 Part 2.
Okay, sure.
Did you see that one?
HB-7P2?
No, I missed it.
Okay, cool.
300 million worldwide as of so far, and they reckon it's going to make a 210 million weekend
in the US, which is pretty big.
Pretty big.
So it's going to crack a billion dollars.
Right, sure.
And it hasn't even opened in like china and uruguay are they
gonna they added extra i don't think so because apparently the chinese version of iron man 3 yeah
because if you watch iron man 3 right at the end yeah he goes he gets the the shrapnel taken out
of his heart and the reactor taken out and it's like it's a chinese medical facility yeah apparently
in iron man 3 in the chinese version he he goes to china like there's
a scene where he goes to china he's like everything in china is amazing great credits so is that
before he gets his heart put back in his chest i think it's that yeah it's before that yeah okay
right so he goes and meets a doctor and they're like yeah like marvel seemed to be very good at
regionalizing all their movies like you know who's also really good at it?
Who's that?
Michael Bay, Transformers movie.
Oh, yeah, great.
Remember that?
That wasn't very good.
No.
Yeah, well, that's the way it goes now.
China's a massive market.
Yeah, absolutely.
You've got to bloody get there.
You've got to panda to the Chinese market.
I get it.
There we go.
Very good.
Thank you.
How are the pandas doing?
We got any left?
Yeah, we've got heaps.
Great.
They're not even endangered anymore.
Just get some panda meat into you.
Anyway, so what?
Okay, Age of Ultron, how about this?
Here's what we do.
On the count of three, we both say what we thought about it just generally in a couple of words.
At the same time?
At the same time.
Two words?
Three words.
Okay.
Okay.
A couple of words.
It doesn't matter.
You can do two.
I'm going to do three syllables.
Okay, great. Okay. One, two, three. Pretty fun. Good but not great. words okay okay a couple of words it doesn't matter you can do it's fine i'm gonna do three syllables okay great okay one two three pretty not right yeah okay that makes sense everybody
you don't really have to listen to the rest of the podcast no that's fine you you got it from
just that so the way the way we normally do this if you've never listened before or if you have and
you don't care listen we do non-spoiler talk and then we do spoilers.
So I will make that point very clear by saying the words.
Now we're going to do spoilers.
Yes, correct.
Okay.
Our official tagline.
Now we're going to do spoilers.
Not now.
Now we're going to do spoilers.
No, not now.
For the record, we won't say not now.
We will say yes now.
Yes now.
That's right.
So, okay.
So you said good but not great yeah it's pretty good
right yeah i'd grade pretty good yeah not dis maybe it is disappointing okay here's the thing
i saw it twice yeah me too i saw it in 3d yep initially i was there which is garbage yep and
then i saw it in 2d because i wanted to get an actual movie going experience and actually enjoy
what i was seeing on the screen and i kind of want to see it. I mean, I want to see it again.
Okay.
Like I'm like, yeah, it was enjoyable and I'd like to see it again,
but it didn't give me the same thrill that, say,
the first Avengers movie did or the first Iron Man or Winter Soldier.
Do you think, though, that's because I found that a lot of this,
a lot of the parallels,
it was a lot of the beats were the same as the first Avengers?
Yeah.
And we'll get into that a bit later, I guess, in spoilers
when we say there will be spoilers.
Yeah, but I mean,
without saying...
No spoilers
because all this is in the trailer.
I hate this.
It's non-spoilers.
Yeah.
It's so annoying.
No, okay.
It's the same as the first one,
but robots instead of spacemen.
Yeah, fair.
I'll have that.
It's pretty much exactly the same.
It definitely had some things
that I thought were improvements on the first one. Yep. But at the same time, I wouldn't say it's better. Yep. Does that make sense yeah fair okay that's pretty much exactly i definitely had some things that i thought were improvements on the first one but at the same time i wouldn't say it's better
yeah does that make sense no that's yeah things do make sense yeah yeah i think it was there was
a lot going on in it and it felt like there was stuff that was cut which we again will get to
that it just it was very tightly packed yes would. Would you agree with that? Why don't we talk about the story?
So like you said, it's the first one,
but instead of Chitauri, it's robots.
Yeah, exactly.
Isn't that pretty much it?
It's robots.
Tony Stark and Bruce Banner accidentally create Ultron,
who's a psychopath robot,
and then he makes more robots, which he is also.
He's also a robot, yes.
And then there's a battle.
There's a battle there, yep. Yeah, and some stuff happens and there's some good laughs the avengers don't get along
and they do get along correct yeah well what about characters do you find any character development
i liked the there's a sort of a developing romance between bruce banner yes i don't think that's
any that's the secret at this point no that's that's in the trailers yeah yeah at this point
everything's been in the trailers.
That's true.
Correct.
Yeah, between Bruce Banner and Natasha Romanoff's Black Widow.
See, a lot of people didn't like that.
Interesting.
They thought it was too forced or rushed or whatever.
I was okay with it.
What happened to Betty?
That's a good question.
Because they don't...
At the Incredible Hulk, the last time I saw her, as played by Liv Tyler,
when Edward Norton was playing the Hulk,
she just... She's not here anymore
yeah
they're off again
they're on again
off again
currently they're off
they're off again
I wondered about that as well
yeah yeah
that's okay
do you think if they do
bring her back
they'll bring back Liv Tyler
or do you reckon
they'll just cast new
I don't think anyone will care
nothing against Liv Tyler
whoever it was last time
Liv Tyler
and before that
it was Jennifer Connelly
there we go yeah
that was in a different universe, though.
Yeah.
That was in Sad Hulk universe.
That's true.
Eric Bana.
Now we're in Action Hulk universe.
That's correct.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Well, she definitely, I think it was definitely Hulk and Black Widow got a major focus.
Yep.
Hawkeye as well got a major focus.
I enjoyed that a lot, actually.
Yeah, me too.
Yeah.
He really kind of stepped it up in terms of character development, in terms of stuff that
he did.
He was probably one of the funniest. In terms of shooting arrows? Yeah, he was probably one of the best. kind of stepped it up in terms of character development, in terms of stuff that he did. He was probably one of the funniest.
In terms of shooting arrows?
Yeah, he was probably one of the best.
He definitely stepped it up.
Yeah.
Yes, but due to that, I think there's some characters we didn't get as much of.
Give me an example.
Like Captain America, for example.
He didn't get a lot at all, did he?
No.
But then again, I'm okay with that because he's got Civil War coming.
He just had The Winter Soldier, which he's amazing in and he's amazing.
Yeah, yeah.
I feel this movie was very much more reliant on the audience knowing everything about the characters.
Like Avengers, the first one, I feel you could go into that knowing nothing about any of the characters and still get it.
Yeah.
Like from context clues, you get who works for who and who's an ally and who's an enemy and blah, on, like, still get it. Like, from context clues, you get who works for who
and, you know, who's an ally and who's an enemy,
blah, blah, blah, you know.
It's become, it's definitely a more complicated movie,
universe, sorry, since that.
Like, a lot of stuff has happened.
Joss Whedon's intention was that this,
you don't need to watch any of the others to go into this.
You go into standalone.
But as you said, I don't think that's entirely true.
I mean, you're not going to be lost.
You get it. Yeah, yeah, exactly. But there's said, I don't think that's entirely true. I mean, you're not going to be lost. No.
You get it.
Yeah, yeah, exactly.
But there's a few things that are mentioned here and there.
You know who the Avengers are because you've seen them on every poster in the city.
And can of drink.
Yeah, and can of drink.
Sure.
Yeah.
Even, oh, we got a lot of Iron Man, I'd say.
Don't you reckon?
Yeah, we got enough Iron Man.
Yeah.
But even like the, I felt the twins we didn't get a heaps of which was okay
i think we got enough of them yeah yeah but did you like that those guys there's that addition
yes i thought she was better more interesting than quicksilver right i thought anyway pietro
maximoff we're not calling him quicksilver we. We're not? I don't think so.
I don't think he has that name. Oh, yeah, they don't call him that, do they?
Yeah, they never get given names, I don't think.
That's true, actually.
I think they call her Witch at one point.
Right, right, right.
But they never call him what you said.
We finally discover how they work Scarlet Witch's powers,
like her comic book powers, into the movie,
which is they don't.
They just give her some other random powers.
So what can she do in the comics?
In the comic books, well, see, that's the thing.
Her powers, they've changed over the years.
But essentially, when she was first created,
her power is that she can affect probability
to make improbable things happen.
Like that machine in Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy?
Yes, the infinite improbability drive, yes.
I remember other things.
But it's like to the point of like,
it'd be really improbable if that guy's body turned into antimatter
and then it does and then he falls into somebody
who's made of positive matter and they blow up or whatever.
Like, so it's completely nonsensical
and why would any of those things happen
and why would it have any limits at all?
Yeah.
It would be really improbable if this guy came back to life who was dead.
Oh, now he's back, right?
It doesn't, that's never happened, I don't think, to the best of my knowledge.
But, and then at some point she can use magic.
Okay.
And she can alter reality.
Yeah.
So, like, during the, you know, there was a storyline's she declares there will be no more mutants
yep and then all the mutants in the marvel universe are eliminated except for a very small
number who are under like a protective magical shield yeah so so her powers are bound by magic
but they're not magic so in this she's just gone either yeah sorry in the comic she's not a mutant
anymore she started as a mutant and then that's because of i think because of the movie rights and
yes exactly yeah she's at fox technically as well as here yeah that they're
like no they're not right so now in the movies you just got telekinesis and sort of a weird
telepathy thing yep those are pretty good aren't they yeah they're pretty good i'd like to have
those but also quicksilver's powers are definitely scaled back even compared to the days of future
past quicksilver yeah i would say
like i felt like he's he when he's booking it like he's really moving he's like out of breath
right yeah that's like so he's not like the flash or other quicksilver yeah in days of future past
he's sort of like it's effortless all the time yeah that's true yeah but this it's uh yeah not
as much well i the flash has always been the ridiculously super fast,
super speedster, and Quicksilver's always been like,
well, he can go at maybe the speed of sound,
and he has physiological effects of going really fast.
He does get out of breath or his muscles hurt or whatever,
but the Flash can just kind of...
Go forever.
Yes, go forever, exactly.
Cool.
And of course, we also got... I don't know if this is a spoiler vision it's not a spoiler it's in the trailer no that's true yeah yeah which i think we should probably say let's save till
after yeah we definitely got him though didn't we so if your uh decision to go or not to go to
avengers age of ultron based on this review is whether or not the Vision appears in it. He definitely appears in it.
Unless we're lying.
Now go forth into that movie.
Get out there.
I think we mentioned this a couple of weeks ago, maybe last week.
Not a spoiler, but when we went to the movies,
there was nothing at the end credits.
Correct.
There was a mid-credits bonus.
Reddits.
Yes, some reddits.
But there was nothing at the end.
That may very well change
because it did with Avengers.
I don't think it has.
I think it's been.
Okay.
Well, there's just a little warning
for all the listeners.
Don't bother.
Just leave.
Or again, like I did,
if you want to see people
get really angry
at a movie ending,
just sit around
and wait till the end.
Did you stay twice?
No, I left the second time.
Oh, you didn't want to see the anger the second time.
No, no, really.
Yeah, yeah.
I didn't stay the second time either.
Can we talk action scenes?
Yes.
In just movies in general.
What's the best one?
People say the shootout and heat.
I think it's the knife fight between Steven Seagal
and what's it, Tommy Lee Jones in Under Siege.
Right at the end of Under Siege.
That's a pretty good one.
Yeah, it's good, right?
Have you seen the Steven Seagal,
the best one-liner or threat of all time?
He goes, I'll take you to the bank, Senator.
The blood bank.
Yeah, that's pretty good.
Okay, let's talk action sequences.
They're the same as the first one.
Yeah, okay.
Well, we can go through them.
There's the opening.
Is there any spoilers in this? Not really. All these ones you see in the trailers. Okay, okay. Well, we could go through them. There's the opening. Is there any spoilers in this?
Not really. All these ones you
see in the trailers.
There's the opening one where you see them
all together and it's like a one shot
which again we do see in Avengers.
They do that one shot where Iron Man flies
through and then he deflects the thing off
Captain America and he goes after whatever.
The movie, this one opens with the same thing
that we sort of see in the third act of the first Avengers, yeah.
And I think the reason why you're talking about
you didn't feel the same way as you did in the first Avengers,
we've seen this.
Yeah, we have.
Like, imagine if you hadn't seen these guys on screen together before.
Yeah, yeah.
You'd be like, oh, my God, I'm staying to the end of the credits.
Right, right, exactly.
No matter what.
No matter what a couple of idiots on the internet say,
I'm sticking around.
Yeah, like, it was very nice to see the team back together.
Yeah.
I like the way all the actors interact sure yeah yeah that opening sequence where they're busting up the hydra base is pretty good yeah i found the best part of the action sequences
were the bits where they kind of stopped and somebody made a comment or a little funny thing
happened i find that stuff really interesting like you know when you see in the then this i
guess isn't a spoiler in the first sequence all the tanks roll up and all the army guys and uh thor's like oh look they're all
lining up for us and captain america's like yeah well you know they're excited and then they just
knock them down like stuff like that i like better than an amazing thing falls and a guy catches it
whatever like i like those little character moments yeah um there's also the one at the
party where they're all yeah they they're all fighting Ultron bots.
Yes.
Yeah.
Pretty good.
That was pretty good, right?
Yeah, good.
Good, solid work.
Hulkbuster.
Yes.
Which I think is the best action sequence.
Yes, it is.
And probably.
We'll talk specifics maybe later, but yeah.
Truck fight.
Captain America fights Ultron on top of a truck.
Yep.
Again, in the trailer.
Also known as.
Truck fight.
That bit from, yeah, the truck fight. That bit from the Winter Soldier. Yeah. The highway fight from the a truck. Yep. Also known as... Truck fight. Yeah, the truck fight.
That bit from The Winter Soldier.
The highway fight from The Winter Soldier.
Yeah, very good.
And the end battle.
Oh, yeah.
Where they fight all their members.
Do everything that happened in Avengers 1.
Yes.
Did you notice...
Yes.
...that there was a real conscious effort
for everybody was going out of their way
to help civilians and save civilians?
Did they not? They definitely did that last time. They did did but i feel like they really is this a reaction to man
of steel that's exactly what i'm saying interesting i'm not not saying maybe not that film in
particular but i think maybe to avoid that backlash like they're getting troop carriers in and they're
making sure nobody's left behind and yep uh-huh that everybody gets saved right not everybody i'm
sure there's people that do die but that i feel like they didn't want to have that backlash,
especially because they made Ultron.
Right, yes.
You know what I mean?
Well, they kind of made Ultron.
We'll get to that.
We'll get to that as well.
Why don't we go spoilers now?
Okay.
Because everybody's saying this.
Okay, yeah, best movie ever or worst movie ever?
Definitely best.
I had a really good time.
I had a fun time.
I'm going to say best movie ever also.
Because again, I would like to see it again.
Yeah.
Because it was a good fun time.
Yes.
But yeah, you've seen it all before.
If you're going and expecting a brand new movie, you're not going to get it.
Okay, fair enough.
But who is that?
Are people?
Maybe I did.
Maybe I'm the only person who went in expecting a brand new thing.
I don't know.
I think, I don't know what it was.
I think I just let all expectations go.
Oh, wow.
And just sat there.
It's very Zen of you.
Thank you.
And I was like, it was fun.
And I remember thinking, that's about as fun as I, like.
That's about as much fun as these old bones can take.
So I'm going to.
I'm going to chip off home, mate.
Yeah, but I remember leaving the first Avengers feeling pretty much the same way.
Yeah.
Again, it's not better, but there but things in it really stood out for me,
which we can get to now.
Okay.
Spoilers happening now.
Yeah, now.
Now are the spoilers.
Yeah, now.
Yeah.
That Thor stuff doesn't work, does it?
Yeah, I think because there was something in the trailer that was not in the finished film
that he sees a woman who we assume is Hel, the guardian of Hel.
Yeah.
When we don't see that at all.
Hela?
Yeah, Hela.
Did you say that?
Yeah.
I think you get a really quick glimpse of her, maybe.
Yeah.
That seems to be...
I really get the sense they've made a hash of that.
Yes, absolutely.
Because Thor is the only one who needs to go back and remember his dream yeah why did they need that bit yeah you're right because
i guess they needed him to go away and then come back again what i feel like would have been better
oh because they needed him to the only reason they because they needed him to go away for a while
yeah and then come back to charge up the Vision.
But they don't, they could have done that without him.
Yeah.
You know what could have worked better, I think?
Yeah.
You have him leave the planet.
Right.
Go back to Asgard.
I've got to go back to my home planet.
Yeah, exactly.
Fuji style.
Fuji style.
He gets captured.
Right.
And then they hand Solo frozen in carbonite.
You don't see him.
He's not there at the end.
Right, yeah.
It makes the last battle more interesting because Thor's not there at the end right yeah it makes the last
battle more interesting because Thor's not there you know what I mean and he's and you don't know
and that leads into Thor Ragnarok right where what they did is he came back he helped out a lot and
then he went see you guys later and then he flew off that's true but at the same time I thought it
was an interesting idea that the vision gets his visual cues from Thor.
I like that a lot.
Yeah, I like that a lot.
Because there's no reason in the Marvel Universe
for anyone to have a cape.
Yeah.
So I thought it was fun that...
That was a nice little moment
because he's capeless at first.
He looks at Thor.
Generates the cape.
Yeah, exactly.
And he wasn't like,
I like your cape.
I'm going to make a cape.
He just does it.
Yeah, he's supplied.
What did you think of the look of the Vision?
I liked it a lot. I thought the colours were a little odd. Okay cape yeah it's supplied yeah what did you think of the look of the vision just i liked it a lot i thought the colors were a little odd okay maybe it's the face the face was fine i thought it was too much i thought there was too much green but anyway
that's just me garish no just an odd shade of green muted yes a little bit yeah too muted for
my liking anyway what were we going to talk about post-spoilers? The final battle.
Hulkbuster.
Hulkbuster, yeah, okay.
They shouldn't have released that clip.
No, exactly, yeah.
I thought it was fun,
and everybody's probably made this link already.
I like the fact that the Hulkbuster satellite was called Veronica.
Yes.
That was funny.
Betty and Veronica.
Betty and Veronica.
Archie comics.
Yes, correct.
Archie style.
Correct.
That probably had one of my
favorite bits in it
where he's punting
the Hulk in the face
he's got like the
kind of jackhammer fist
he's like go to sleep
go to sleep
go to sleep
that was really
I really enjoyed that
and again there's the
bit where they're like
oh I'm gonna drop
the Hulk through this
building
how quickly can I
buy this building
exactly
is there anybody in it
no
great
bang
and he's like
catches an elevator full
of people and that's i really enjoyed that sequence a lot i like you know like the arm
would come off and he calls another arm and yeah that's okay that was great that was that was all
really really good stuff yeah what else there's tons of other stuff sure sure well you do you
know oh okay um what did you think about them really telegraphing super hard that hawkeye was
gonna die yeah what was that do you think he was really telegraphing super hard that Hawkeye was going to die but then he didn't die?
Yeah, what was that?
Do you think he was...
Well, everybody knows at this point, I think,
that Joss Whedon has to kill somebody important
in every one of his movies and or TV shows.
And then give them their own spin-off TV series.
So, I don't know, I guess...
Well, I didn't want Hawkeye to die
because I do like Jeremy Renner in that role.
He was really good in this one.
And you can't kill off...
Because they killed off a non-powered character in the last one, so they can't do it again.
Okay.
So I guess the only option was to kill one of the two newbies, because they're also part-owned by Fox or whatever.
Yeah, that's what I thought it was.
So you have to kill one of them.
We don't even need him.
And I guess they were like, well, we...
My guess would be they're like,
well, we can't beat the super speed action sequence
in Days of Future Past.
No.
Like at no point will we be able to beat that.
And all the stuff they do is fine.
Yeah, it's fine.
But it's not as good.
Exactly, yeah.
So they're like, well, we'll kill Quicksilver.
Yeah.
Because they had a mutual respect for one another.
They did, didn't they?
Because neither of them saw anything coming.
They've had mutual... They for one another in the end. They did, didn't they? Because neither of them saw anything coming. They've had mutual respect.
They said that two or three times.
They had mutual respect for each other based on their ability
to not observe things that were happening.
Boy, did they.
You're right though.
They really, because it's like Hawkeye gets severely injured.
He gets patched up.
You meet his family.
His wife's like, oh, it's different or whatever.
You meet his kids. He's like, they need, it's different or whatever. You meet his kids.
He's like, they need me.
She's like, do they really need you?
And then he's like, I have to go do this.
And she's like, blah, blah, blah.
And then it really, it's like the guy, you know,
it's like a character in Lethal Weapon who's three days from retirement.
Exactly, yeah.
Except he doesn't die in Lethal Weapon, does he?
No, no, no.
You're thinking of precisely the wrong series of movies.
Yeah. But he also probably had one of the best lines as well but a few of the best lines uh-huh the bit where he's giving scarlet which the pep talk oh yeah was it like um
we're in a was it we're in a flying city fighting an army of robots i've got a bow and arrow none
of this makes any sense right yeah which is great yeah but also what's good about that is like
this is ridiculous i don't like this but this is great, yeah. But also what was good about that is like, this is ridiculous, I don't like this,
but this is my job and we have to do this.
Right, exactly, yeah.
Get your shit together.
So that was a nice little moment.
He's like a construction worker.
He's like, I don't want to be here.
Yeah, you know, pays the bills, I guess.
So what did you think of Ultron?
Okay, what did you think?
Oh, we didn't even mention James Spader as Ultron.
Yeah, I thought he was really good.
Do you think he was too jovial?
Like too sassy? He was too s good. Do you think he was too jovial? Like too sassy?
He was too sassy.
Do you think he was too...
It sounded like Joss Whedon.
Yeah, he was too colloquial and too kind of pop culture savvy.
Yeah, I liked him a lot though.
I thought it was kind of fun.
Yeah, but no, he wasn't...
He was very menacing, but he was very jovial.
Yeah.
But he had like a lot of sinister undertones.
Yes, okay.
Where like there was a claw.
It just casually mentions like,
are you one of Tony Stark's?
And he just takes his arm off.
And again, if your name is Ulysses Claw,
keep your hands inside the bus.
Behind your back.
Behind your back at all times.
Exactly.
If your name's Johnny Peg Leg
and you've got two functioning legs,
you watch yourself, all right?
Don't get your legs...
Keep your legs behind your back.
Keep your legs behind your back.
Don't lean too far on your motorcycle
because you will lose one of those legs.
It's just poetic irony right there.
So, Claw, come on, mate.
Get it together.
Get it together.
Yeah, he'll be back at some point.
Yeah, with Black Panther.
Probably Black Panther, yeah.
Okay, great.
He had the Wakandan... Yeah, yeah, yeah. The thief Panther, yeah. Okay, great. He had the Wakandan...
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
The thief brand.
Yeah, okay.
I thought he was really good, actually.
He was really fun.
Yeah.
I don't...
I mean, that South African accent sounded pretty damn...
I think Andy Serkis should keep up that look in his real life, because he looked pretty
cool.
He did look cool, didn't he?
Yeah.
Cool man.
Yeah, he looked real cool.
Yeah, it was good how he kind of wasn't really fussed.
Yeah.
Like with any of us.
Even when he got his arm cut off, he was like, I'm not really fussed.
Not a lot of blood there, was there though?
It was cauterized probably.
Yeah, I guess so.
So he's got like a lightsaber hand Ultron, does he?
Yeah.
Like a lightsaber.
Yeah, no, I get it.
Yeah.
Did you like his different forms?
I thought the last one was a bit too Megatron. It was megatron oh you're right yeah i was gonna say everything except fat
ultron yeah it was interesting that he chose that scraggly body initially right i think he did that
on purpose to freak him out oh yeah because i don't think he would have needed yeah so so we're
going to talk about ultron's artificial intelligence. So they didn't really create it.
Well, no, because they were unsuccessful.
Was it the influence of the Scepter that did it?
I believe so.
Okay, right.
Yeah.
I mean, they opened that door.
Yeah, exactly.
Like, no doubt.
They should all go to jail.
Yes.
Yes.
But, like, they weren't successful.
Right.
And that kind of bonded with...
They definitely had a hand in it.
Yeah.
Because it did have Stark's...
A lot of Stark's personality as well.
It did, yeah.
But, yeah, no, that...
That obviously wasn't what they were going for.
Uh-huh.
But I feel like both him and Vision
were a result of that.
Yes, okay.
Like, they were...
Not in there, but...
Uh-huh.
Actually, I've got a question here.
So, are we not going to see a return of Jarvis?
I don't think...
Well, he's got a new...
He's got Friday now.
Yeah, exactly.
Yes, I know.
I don't think so.
Pretty generic, isn't she?
Yeah.
Friday.
Jarvis would,
it's in the comics,
Jarvis would still exist.
You could just have a copy of it.
Yeah, exactly.
That's how computer software works.
I got to hear, though,
it says question for Mason.
Explain to me,
how was Ultron created as an AI?
Did it come from the mind gem?
And also,
where did Stark's personality comparison come from?
Even if he came from a corruptive Jarvis,
Jarvis does not have Stark's personality.
That's correct, isn't it?
Yeah.
I think maybe he...
Because you see him access information about Tony Stark.
And maybe he accessed all his personal memo files or whatever,
like his voice recordings and stuff like that.
And he's like, oh, that's an interesting turn of phrase.
I'll use that.
That's a phrase that people use, right?
Make your friends rich and your enemies rich.
Your enemies rich as well.
Make everybody rich.
Let everybody, let him get them rich.
Yeah, look, I don't know.
Yeah, okay.
Maybe there was something that was coming out there.
Oh, here's where I was going to go with that.
Yeah.
This is going to be one of those conversations
that's all over the place.
They've got Thor to really, they've realized they're running out of time to explain the
infinity gems yeah so they just got thought a shoehorn in a whole bunch of information
just all at once like he's all of a sudden you all about yeah he's like what's going on here
and he's like oh it's the infinity gems is four so far and there's how does he know there's four
because he had a vision did he have a vision of Guardians of the Galaxy?
Yeah, he did.
Oh, great.
He got delivered the DVD.
He saw the entirety of Guardians of the Galaxy.
Okay, great.
And he's like, yeah, there's been four, and then there was six,
and now there's blah, blah, blah.
So there'll probably be...
There's not a coincidence.
I saw a raccoon.
A flash of a raccoon.
Yep.
Yeah, so I think they're like, well...
Because there's no...
Until Guardians of the Galaxy 2, there's not really going to be any cosmic-powered Marvel adventures.
So they really have to get all this essential information out really quickly.
I don't think you necessarily need to do that, though.
Right, yeah.
I felt like one of the...
And I said the opposite of this in my review, but in hindsight,
a lot of the stuff that they shoehorned in for the next movie
kind of really felt like it was shoehorned in.
Like the stuff, like, and also they didn't really, but at the same time, they didn't
really build a civil war properly.
No, that's true.
Like Tony Stark just kind of, they're not, they shouldn't be friends at the end.
They didn't split up the Avengers in the way that, like Tony Stark and they should
have set up, left it with Captain America and Iron Man not liking each other and not agreeing.
Interesting.
Okay.
Don't you think that would have been a more interesting way to...
No, I liked that it was all pretty cool at the end.
It was all handshakes.
Yeah, all handshakes.
And Ferraris driving off or whatever.
Yeah, yeah.
Okay, fair enough.
Yeah, there was also a...
It's an Audi.
Is it?
He always drives Audis.
Does he?
It's a weird product placement.
Okay, fair enough.
Even in Iron Man 3, when he's in that Tennessee town or whatever,
and there's all the guys trying to kill him,
and then they finally do, and he's like,
well, I'll hijack this car and take it off and go back to California.
It's an outie again.
It's weird.
He always ends up in one.
Does he walk past four different cars?
Probably.
He's like, nah.
None of these.
Not that one.
Yeah.
There was also, the guy who plays Heimdall.
Heimdall? Idris Elba. Yeah. He mentioned last year that he's- And soon he'll be playing Stiltman. Yeah. Yeah. There was also, the guy who plays Heimdall. Heimdall?
Heimdall, Idris Elba.
Yeah.
He mentioned last year that he-
And soon he'll be playing Stiltman.
Yes.
If I have my way in Hollywood.
Hashtag Idris for Stiltman.
Correct.
There was a, he mentioned last, like, November or October that, oh, I filmed a scene with
Tom Hiddleston for the post-credits for the Avengers.
Oh, interesting.
So he was going to be in this.
Okay.
And they cut it out for for whatever reason interesting and said they went with
the same post-credits scene from the last Avengers movie yeah which is Thanos doing some stuff yeah
yeah but he's definitely in the uh Asgard I don't think he is really it looks like the Asgard vault
it does but it's not the same setup as we see.
Yes, in the original it's like on a post or something.
Also, that glove that you see in Thor is right-handed
and the one he picks up is left.
There you go.
Yeah.
I made an Easter egg video, Mason.
Oh, did you?
It's in that.
Great.
Yeah, so that was interesting.
Apparently also Captain Marvel, they're going to put her in as well.
But then I think they're going to put her in.
It was a very long movie.
It was actually, I think, a minute shorter than The Last Avengers.
More packed, though, would you say?
More packed, yes.
The bit where War Machine shows up at the end
and they all shoot down all the Ultrons.
That was Captain Marvel was going to be there as well.
Oh, interesting.
Yes, that would have been cool.
So she wasn't going to have an origin story, strictly speaking. Well, they don't really do that anymore. She was going to be there as well. Oh, interesting. Yes, that would have been cool. So she wasn't going to have an origin story, strictly speaking.
Well, they don't really do that anymore.
She was going to show up.
Yeah.
Okay.
But I think the reason they thought, we're giving her our own movie.
Yeah.
Let's maybe do this properly, I guess.
Right, exactly, yeah.
Because did you like the lineup at the end because of the new Avengers team?
It was an interesting lineup.
Okay.
You know what?
Speaking of that, I like that they've gone back to the original War Machine colors.
Yeah, me too.
Definitely.
Yeah.
He looks way better.
Yeah, totally.
Did you like that bit of the party when he was telling his tank story?
Yes, that was fun.
Yeah.
So there's an Iron Man 3 prequel comic where we see that version of the War Machine armor
before it's turned into Iron Patriot.
Yeah.
So that's the second version of that.
Well, we see it in two as well, don't we?
No, we see the original.
We see the Mark 2 Iron Man suit that's been turned into War Machine.
Yeah.
Then in between Iron Man 2 and 3.
Yeah.
That one is like all the weapons are taken off and it's put back in the Iron Man vault.
Oh, okay.
And then Tony Stark builds a new iron patriot
builds a new war machine yeah for james rhodes yeah and then that is re-sprayed into iron patriot
so that's a completely new suit oh there you go how did you know that because i've read the bloody
prequel you're pretty good aren't you pretty you got some skills oh yeah oh yeah yeah it's also in
the iron man 3 mobile game.
That really expensive.
The terrible freemium game.
Yeah, it's in that.
It's like, it's $3,000 if you unlock everything. Yeah, it's like $110 to unlock a bunch of armors that all fly exactly the same.
In an endless running game.
Yeah, in an endless running game.
It's really bad.
Anyway, yeah.
But the new Avengers line up.
War Machine.
Yep.
Falcon.
Like that new suit.
Yeah, it's great suit we understood briefly.
Scarlet Witch in new costume as well.
Sassy new hair.
Sassy.
Yeah, she looked great.
Vision and Captain America and Scarlett Johansson.
Yeah, sure.
Like Widow.
Is there anyone else?
I'm probably missing someone.
One of Iron Man's Audis.
Just one of the remote controlled ones.
Does it turn into a robot?
No, it's just a car.
Just a car.
Yeah. Okay. Not sentient?is. Just one of the remote-controlled ones. Does it turn into a robot? No, it's just a car. Just a car. Yeah.
Okay.
Not sentient?
No, just a car.
Yeah, but I think what they're going to do,
Avengers Infinity War Part 1,
they'll have that team.
And they all get trounced.
They all get trounced.
And then I think Captain America will have been dead
and they use the time gem or something to bring him back.
Also, I bloody called it the sequence
where we see Iron Man.
Everybody's on the ground and Captain America's shield's all cracked on the ground.
You did.
You said dream sequence.
And I laughed in your face.
You did laugh in my face.
I had to cut out 10 minutes of laughter.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, you're right.
There were a lot of dream sequences.
A lot of that threw me, to be honest.
Not you, though.
You're bloody on it. Thank you. Let's talk about the vision, right? right. There were a lot of dream sequences. A lot of that threw me, to be honest. Not you, though. You're bloody on it.
Thank you.
Let's talk about the vision, right?
Okay.
Best character?
Really?
Best new character?
Certainly.
Maybe.
I think he probably had the best moment.
Which was?
Oh, he had two really great moments.
Just shooting lasers out of his head?
That was probably the best moment.
Yeah.
We also, we sort of called the gem in the head.
We said soul gem.
You did, you did, yeah.
But it's the mind gem.
Mind gem.
Yeah.
They changed the colour on me.
Exactly.
How would I know?
Exactly, they changed the colour and then Thor had to be like,
oh, it's definitely the mind gem.
This is the mind gem.
The mind gem's in the scepter.
The mind gem, there's four, there's been four gems,
there's six gems all together and blah, blah, blah.
But yeah, does he need that to live?
That's a good question.
Because a lot of people are saying
if Thanos turns up,
is he going to pull it out of his head?
I'm going to guess,
well,
if they require a moment of drama
involving the Vision,
then yes.
Because otherwise he can do everything.
Yeah,
what they're going to do
is they're going to,
it'll be like Iron Man
used to need the arc reactor
and now he doesn't,
kind of thing.
I reckon it'll just be,
if they need a moment of drama,
Thanos will pull the gem out of his head
and the vision
will go inert
and fall
into deep space
or something
and somebody
will have to rescue him
or whatever
fall into a pool
fall into a pool
exactly
that's right
they should have
put a fence up
but they didn't
and then you know
he'll be reactivated
or something
in time to save the day
and you'll get a
replacement laser thingy
or whatever
but otherwise
maybe he'll just
take it out and it'll be fine yeah because i feel like and thor even said at the end
the mind gem is safe with vision right which kind of means like we could take it from him right yeah
but we're not going right exactly yeah so i don't know whether he does need it or not i'm sure it
helps yeah hmm so no you're saying best new character definitely okay i like the way that
bit where he picks up the hammer.
Yep.
Come on.
That was funny, yeah.
That was amazing, right?
People love that, yeah.
I'd love to know how much of him...
You know what?
Opening weekend, the opening weekend audience loved it a lot more than like the...
I'd agree with that.
The audience of the second time.
Yeah.
Because the people at the opening weekend were super fans.
Lost their minds.
Lost their minds.
And then the next, the two-dayD version I saw people were like it took
it was a slow burn
and they're like
oh because it was from earlier
in the movie
where nobody could lift the hammer
but he's
he's lifted the hammer
good on him
how many gems are there?
do you know it's also
they called them gems
and not stones
yeah there you go
they call them stones in
Guardians
they call them gems in this
there you go
interesting
I don't even know
what to make of that
that thing that I said
it's irrelevant
it is ultimately It's irrelevant.
It is.
Ultimately, it's irrelevant,
but what is this show if not largely irrelevant?
Yeah, but also,
I think the Vision had another great... I think I keep saying this is the best moment.
His moment with Ultron at the end.
Right.
Where they have that conversation in the forest.
And he says he's naive because he was born yesterday.
Yeah, but not only that,
that whole conversation.
Right. That's really good casting. Yeah, okay Yeah, but not only that, that whole conversation. Right.
Like, that's really good casting.
Yeah, okay.
Like, for Paul Bettany, right?
Yeah.
I'd love to know how much of him is...
And Spader.
And Spader, yes.
I'd love to know how much of him is actually CGI, though.
Like, Paul Bettany.
Because they've clearly...
The sum of it, he's in it, and they've painted him up or whatever.
But I feel like...
I reckon he wears, like, green earmuffs, and they green screen his ears off.
Yeah, because that would be very uncomfortable.
Oh, absolutely.
They're squishing his ears down.
That's why they changed the Captain America helmet, because it was too uncomfortable with
the ears covered.
Now he's got big goofy ears sticking out.
Yeah.
I like that, though.
Yeah.
Did you like the...
Going back to, did you like the Ultron-Captain America fight on top of the truck?
The Captain America action was definitely not as good as the Captain America action in Winter Soldier.
The same inexplicable, you know what, worse inexplicable shield physics.
They were pretty good.
He's got the electromagnetic thing.
Pretty good.
Okay.
Yeah.
And you think the ending was too reminiscent, if you will, of what happened with the Chitauri.
Yes, exactly.
Okay, interesting.
It sounds like you didn't like this movie, Mason.
It sounds like you're a hater.
In many ways, I am a hater.
I'm the original hater in many ways.
I have a question, though.
I'm ready.
Did the Hulk go to space?
I don't think...
Not...
No.
How would he go to space?
What do you mean?
The ship was going up, man. That ship can't go to space? What do you mean? The ship was going up, man.
That ship can't go into space.
How do you know?
Do you remember when we played the Avengers?
No, sorry.
Do you remember when we played Captain America and the Avengers?
Yes.
And the Quinjet flies into space and we went to a space battle on the moon
and we had to beat that giant laser.
Okay.
Here's what I'm saying, though.
Look, maybe you could make it into orbit yeah but where's
you gonna go from there well that's the thing you could get picked up by somebody the same way that
peter quill was picked up okay into the galaxy yep could go through a wormhole could go through
a wormhole you're right he could just crash back into the ocean which is what they also implied
yes but i think this was left intentionally ambiguous yeah so they decide what they're
gonna do with the hulk right, exactly, yeah. Yeah.
Where would you like to see it go?
Yeah, I would like to see him in space.
Yeah.
I want to see him versus Drax the Destroyer.
Absolutely.
He would kill him, though.
Oh, yeah.
Because Drax couldn't beat Ronan.
Yeah.
What an idiot.
But not only that,
the rights to the Hulk solo movie,
the next one,
Universal partly financed the last one, The Incredible Hulk, and they still own the rights to a Hulk solo movie, the next one, Universal partly financed the last one, The Incredible Hulk.
And they still own the rights to a Hulk solo movie, some of them.
So if Marvel did it, they'd have to strike some kind of deal with Disney and Universal to make that happen.
And could you see them doing that?
I mean, they did with that with Sony for Spider-Man.
Right, right, right.
But can you imagine that?
Yeah, this is an era of...
People wheeling and dealing.
Wheeling and dealing, exactly.
Marvel's got the juice for it now.
They got the juice.
But also, so they could do like Planet Hulk, say.
Yep.
But also people are saying,
why not make him go with the Guardians of the Galaxy?
Then you don't have to do that.
And then you don't have to face the challenge
of making a Hulk solo movie.
Where a lot of people even said, including Joss Whedon,
Hulk as a solo character does not work.
He works as an ensemble, but he doesn't work on his own.
He's sad and running away from tanks.
He's always sad and running away from tanks, yeah.
So yeah.
But also, one of the things that were cut out, among other things, initially, the Hulk was going to go grey in that Iron Man Hulk battle.
Oh, okay, sure.
So Scarlet Witch gets in his head,
he goes grey and he's got,
I guess he can talk and stuff?
Yeah, okay, right.
It's the Mr. Fix-It version.
The Mr. Fix-It version.
Yeah.
For those who don't know,
for a period in the 1980s,
because in the Hulk's original appearance in the 60s,
he was grey for like an issue.
Yeah.
And then he became green.
But then in the 1980s, he reverted. And in the original incarnation,s he was gray yeah like an issue yeah and then he became green but then in the 1980s uh he reverted and in the original incarnation when he was gray he could like speak
in full sentences and he was kind of he was kind of just like a like a real grumpy guts it was like
frankenstein it was kind of yeah it's like but wasn't that a printing error as well that he went
green no he was more he was i guess he was more dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Okay, sure, yeah.
But no, he went from grey to green because it was in the 60s,
it was really hard to maintain a consistent grey.
Okay.
That was the whole reason.
Why is that?
I don't know.
It's the thing.
Anyway, but anyway, in the 80s, he went grey again.
Yeah.
Also, in the 60s, he changed into the Hulk at night And he became Bruce Banner again in the daytime
Like a Frankenstein
Like a Frankenstein, exactly
And it was only later when he became green
That it was when he became angry he became the Hulk
So anyway, in the 80s
He had some sort of personality change
And then he became the Grey Hulk again
Because it was really hard to print consistent green in the 80s
Exactly
Things had changed
Yeah, because of Watergate
Anyway, I couldn't think of anything from the 80s So with Watergate Nothing green in the 80s. Exactly. Things had changed. Yeah, because of Watergate. Anyway,
I couldn't think of anything from the 80s, so with
Watergate. Nothing happened in the 80s. Yeah, you're true.
Yeah. Because of Hypercolor.
Because of Hypercolor. Anyway,
so in the 80s,
he started becoming the Grey Hulk again at night
and turning back into Bruce Banner in the day.
But then the Grey Hulk realized that
it wasn't the fact that it was turning into
daytime that turned him back into Bruce Banner.
It was the fact that he got sunlight on his skin.
So if he didn't get any sunlight, he would stay the Hulk for as long as he was undercover.
So he went to Las Vegas and he got a whole bunch of big suits made
and he became a mob enforcer called Joe Fix-It.
Fantastic.
So that's a real thing that happened.
Is there a point where the Green Hulk
and the Grey Hulk split
and there's two of them?
At one point,
Bruce Banner and the Hulk split.
Okay.
Was it amicable?
Was there a shaking of hands
and a parting of ways?
I don't think there was, no.
Anyway, what were we talking about?
I can't remember.
Oh, you were going to say
there was going to be a Grey Hulk.
Yeah, but they also said
we will save the Grey Hulk
for something else.
Interesting.
So, which means if he does go to space.
Yep.
Or they do a Hulk movie, then you can have him talking instead of just grunting and punching.
Exactly.
Yeah.
Which I also want to see.
But the Grey Hulk isn't as exciting, is he?
No.
Yeah.
Well, we don't know.
He's interesting.
He's got some things that's good about him.
He could be greyish green.
He's got that hat. Yeah. Those big suits. Wow. He's interesting. He's got some things that's good about him. He could be greyish green. He's got that hat.
Yeah.
Those big suits.
Fantastic.
Or he'll just be in Fiji, like they said.
Yeah.
So we'll see where that goes.
Yeah.
I don't really have anything else to say about it.
Hmm.
Okay.
How about this?
Yeah.
Overall.
Yes.
How do you rank it in the phase two movies?
What do you put it ahead of?
What do you put behind it?
I'm going to put it behind Captain America 2.
Yep.
I'm going to put it behind Guardians of the Galaxy.
I agree.
Are you going to put it ahead of the other two, obviously?
Thor and Iron Man 2.
Dark World.
Iron Man 3.
Yes.
Definitely.
It's right in the middle.
I thought it was really solid.
It was really fun.
Yeah.
I recently re-watched Iron Man 3. Yeah. And apart from all the dumb parts, it's pretty fun the middle yeah i thought it was really solid it was really fun yeah but you know i recently re-watched iron man 3 yeah and apart from all the dumb parts it's pretty fun yeah it is we've said this before yeah good buddy cop movie yeah totally bad iron man
movie joss whedon's leaving right yep have you seen him in interviews is he walking away sadly
like the hulk it's real gray it's weird he looks exhausted and he sounds exhausted right right and I feel like for this I think
having to work
under the Marvel banner
he's been more handcuffed
than he has been
in the past
sure yeah
and just looking at
the way this film
turned out
because he keeps stealing stuff
from the Marvel offices
it's like I'm gonna
take these collectibles
and then I get him arrested
but and he's leaving
his own fault
exactly
yeah
and him
with him leaving the universe
and the Russo brothers
taking over Infinity War,
I feel like he wants to go play in a playground
of his own characters where he can do what he wants.
I think that's what he wants to do.
I might be wrong,
but people are saying maybe he should do a Star Wars movie,
but I don't know if it'd work in the Star Wars universe.
Do you think at this point he has enough Hollywood clout
that he could make a movie with his own?
Yeah, absolutely.
Would it be popular?
I think it'd have to be like a blockbuster-y kind of thing.
Right.
Because he made a Shakespeare movie in between.
Yeah, I remember that, yeah.
I didn't say it because Shakespeare.
More like boring British dickhead spear.
Nice.
Nice, all right.
Got him.
I like Baz Luber's Romeo juliette of course you do um yeah
because like apart from like he was not in hollywood bad hollywood's bad books exactly
but like he's he's always been a cult creator of things like a jimmy gun yeah like a jimmy gun
exactly so and now you know he's become sort become sort of this Hollywood superhero movie royalty kind of person.
Do you think if he goes back to his original properties, that people are going to go, well, it's the guy who created the Avengers.
Let's go to these movies.
Or is it going to be, or are people only going to the Avengers because of the Avengers?
I don't think they'll make the money that.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That he's, that the Marvel ones do. Bad move, Whedon. I don't think they'll make the money that... Yeah. Yeah. That he's...
That the Marvel ones do.
Bad move, Whedon.
I don't think so.
I mean, look, he's fine.
Enjoy your trip to Nowheresville.
No, he's set for life, man.
Yeah.
I'm sure the door is open that he could come back.
Oh, totally.
Like, I can imagine he...
I imagine his split is very amicable.
Yes.
So now...
But, like, he could come back and do like captain marvel for
example because he likes female characters exactly yeah and whatever uh i was gonna say something
else i can't remember he's got a pretty big head doesn't he sure does i like him yeah oh yeah in
the first avengers movie he was he was he got made less money for that than he did on dr horrible the web series he made less money yes wow because
in a lot of them they'll pay really low salaries initially i admit i did a video on this one
captain america recently chris evans got 300 000 for the first captain america and then got
two or three mil for the second but like you said he really got paid like big time for age of
ultron because he made the third highest grossing movie of all time correct yes yeah yeah that seems great that's that's crazy though right like
anyway yeah overall best movie ever i had a really good time i suggest if you haven't seen it go and
see it if you have seen it you don't have to see if you haven't seen it we've just described it so
perfectly that you may as well have seen it so It's really crafted that. What did we miss? Did we miss anything?
Probably.
Let me go back through my list.
Okay.
Truck fight.
Truck fight.
End battle.
What did you think of Ultron's plan overall?
A bit weird.
Do you think it was a little bit vague
as to what he was doing up until he actually did it?
Yeah.
They were never clear as to whether he wanted
to destroy all of humanity or somehow evolve them further.
I think he wanted to evolve them further by...
Destroying most of them.
Most of them.
And then having them evolve on their own.
Yeah.
Which would have taken them a really long time.
Yeah.
You'd think he'd get bored.
He's got time.
Yeah, okay.
Yeah, I don't know.
Yeah, that was a bit kind of vague.
But I did like the idea of the...
Like, they did foreshadow it quite well where he's like, I've been thinking about meteors.
Yeah. Like, the cleanliness of the meteor just bang and everybody's gone and then
he did it he created it okay that's pretty great pretty solid yeah special effects we haven't
talked about that pre okay spoilers special effects you could see them like oh yeah that
doesn't like you can tell the special effects shots right like where they've like for example
that first shot of the Avengers where they all
fly through.
They all leap together.
Yeah.
And you can see that, like, not even that, like that whole segment, it's like, it's a
composite of a whole lot of different separate green screen stuff they've put together.
Okay.
I feel like, like with Captain America, which has the last one, which has a lot of special
effects in it, you don't see them.
Right.
But in this you kind of can.
But I guess this one has flying robots and giant green men and whatever. Precis so you do what you can you do what you can yeah it looked amazing right
yeah yeah totally yeah did you like scarlet witch's red hand stuff pretty great what did you think of
the sequence where they have to stop the train looked like spider-man 2 looked like spider-man
2 there we go thank you yep yeah yeah uh yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's about it. That's about it.
Yeah.
Get out there.
Iron Man's finally perfected the armor from Iron Man 3.
Yeah.
It works now, which is good.
Yeah.
Do you think someone needs to beat him up?
Like he does not learn, Tony Stark.
He has not learned a single thing.
Yeah.
He's full of hubris.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Somebody should beat him up.
Yeah.
Like he shouldn't have made Vision, right? Correct. Like, come on hubris. Yeah. Do you know what I mean? Like he shouldn't have made Vision, right?
Correct.
Like, come on, man.
Yeah.
Like you could have just made another psychopath,
but he chose to do it anyway.
And then Thor had a pool memory.
Yeah, he had a pool memory.
That's true, yeah.
So he knew.
All right.
Well, let's get into letters first before what we read,

hey guys
just watched AOU
it's great
but the two hours
didn't seem
at all that much
and I can understand
the complaints
of why it always
why things seemed
rushed it's most likely way too early to talk about dvd releases or something like that but
do you think it would be i think it's definitely going to be released on dvd do you think it's not
too early to call that no i'm calling it i'm putting yeah it's taking my life on it do you
think it would be a mistake if there's not going to be an extended slash director's cut version of
the movie thanks love the podcast kim how much extra footage has been left on the Cutting Room floor?
Probably about an hour.
Really?
Yeah.
Jesus.
Really?
Really.
That's amazing.
Yeah, I know, right?
I'd like to see some of that.
Yeah, absolutely.
Not necessarily even to cut it together,
because then it's that canon or whatever.
Just release the scenes.
Is any of it finished?
I don't know.
I'm not from the...
Exactly, we don't know.
Too early to tell, Mason.
It is too early. I'm not as bold as Exactly, we don't know. Too early to tell, Mason. It is too early.
I'm not as bold as you are with your predictions.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Also, can Kim be the official Bruce Banner of the podcast?
Yes.
Confirmed.
Ew.
They've talked about it, but they might do it.
Yeah, I mean, we did say that it seemed like some pieces were missing.
Yeah, yeah.
So, if...
All right, how about...
Give us these things.
Give us the theatrical cut.
Yep.
Give us the extended version with enough footage to fill in the blanks.
Yep.
And then just give us whatever's left over as a series of unconnected scenes.
Absolutely.
Give us the bit where Han Solo talks with Jabba the Hutt
in the Mos Eisley spaceport.
Yeah, yeah.
Give us the scene where, due to budget cuts,
Agent Coulson can't show up for some reason.
Where is he?
Well, actually, they weighed and said that in the movie universe,
he's dead because a lot of people...
I mean, it's all connected because a lot of people don't watch that show
and would have come back into this going, why is he alive?
Right, okay, sure.
They've only watched the last Avengers movie and this Avengers movie.
Okay, so we're assuming that he's dead until there's enough room in the movies to explain why he's
come back okay right what about do you think nick fury needed to be there yeah because he's got to
get the helicarrier that also doesn't that but in order to that also doesn't make sense unless
you know that in Winter Soldier,
that helicarrier was decommissioned and was replaced with the three super helicarriers.
Which crashed.
Which crashed, exactly, yeah.
So if you've just watched Avengers and this one, he's like,
we got this one out of mothballs.
And they'd be like, yeah, it was mostly fine last time, wasn't it?
It's only been two years.
Yeah, it's only been a couple of years.
It's a really good point.
Do you notice Nick Fury did his one quick action thing what was it this time he stabbed an ultron in the face i did too yeah
right fantastic that's how they use him except for winter soldier yep where he'd had that great
action sequence malto bernie uh hello james and mason like everyone else i really want to see
avengers age of ultron And I met this girl

So the night before the date
He's from Australia
Okay great
I went and watched The movie by myself to soak it all in.
Then the following day, I watched it with her and I didn't have to worry about missing
anything whilst I got some sweet, sweet action.
While you soaked it all in.
And I got to see the movie twice.
Well, most of it anyways.
Get all the great work.
You guys are awesome.
Brackets, dickheads.
Can I be the official Superman cellophane S?
Yes. Yeah. That sounds great. Great. Good work. That's a smart. Brackets, dickheads. Can I be the official Superman cellophane S? Yes.
Yeah.
That sounds great.
Great.
Good work.
That's a smart move.
What was his name there, sorry?
Official cellophane S.
What was the actual name?
I haven't got it here.
Great.
Mystery man.
Hey, guys.
You'd want to protect his anonymity, though, in that situation.
That's for sure.
Hey, guys. The player. Sorry, continue. protectors are not anonymity though in that situation obviously yeah hey guys the player
sorry continue you guys are going to talk about the avengers advolter and i thought i would tell
you i thought it was great i thought the ultra was pretty good especially the first scene where
we see him attack avengers hq i actually did like that bit where he shows up and there's that moment
where they're just like what the fuck is this like they didn't they don't like attack straight
away right yeah i like that um also i think vision look pretty great too in contrast to what mason They're just like, what the fuck is this? They don't attack straight away. Right, right, right.
Yeah, I like that.
Also, I think Vision looked pretty great too,
in contrast to what Mason said.
He's actually written that here.
Yeah, that makes sense.
And how awesome was Scarlet Witch?
She was badass once she stopped being scared.
Just a quick question.
I'm not a comic book reader as I never got into it as a kid,
but I love the comic book world and the characters that it creates,
especially when I see them on the big screen.
You made big gestures when you said that. Yeah, man man because i'm imagining it up there on the big screen yeah
and so i don't know if there's a reason for this but why are dc comics set in fictional cities like
gotham metropolis etc but marvel seemed to favor the real world cities such as new york thanks a
bunch another female listener p.s i don't think you guys are dickheads we're up to three female
listeners so that's pretty fantastic. That's interesting.
There was a Justice League Avengers crossover many years ago
where the Avengers end up on the DC Earth.
Okay.
And they discover that the DC Earth is physically larger
because it contains all the actual cities,
but also all the other fictional cities.
There you go.
Yeah.
I don't know.
but also all the other, the fictional cities.
There you go.
Yeah.
I don't know.
I think when a lot of Marvel characters were created in response to DC characters in terms of these are more earthy characters,
they're more down to earth.
They're just like you.
They're just like us.
Ace of Butterfield.
Exactly.
Tom Holland, all those guys.
Asa Butterfield.
Exactly.
Tom Holland.
All those guys.
But they were sort of more grounded and more they're real people.
They have real problems.
You know, the Fantastic Four.
Yep.
You know, they're a family and they bicker like a family and et cetera, et cetera.
And I think the idea was, well, we'll put them in New York.
We'll put them in locations you're familiar with.
So it was more that kind of thing.
Whereas, you know, I guess the perception was like all DC characters are like billionaire playboys and etc etc yeah isn't also they put them in put them in opal city or star city or whatever because you know they also had
different very different responses to when 9-11 happened because marvel made comics written as
that event happened right like spider-man was in new york when the trade
towers came down yeah but didn't dc do some kind of metropolis alien attack that was like a metaphor
or something maybe that sounds i might be wrong yeah like oh yeah i wish i knew more about that
i wish you knew more about that i was hoping i would just vaguely say something and then i would
have all the information i don't have anything on that yeah oh well that's
uh the letters though mason we got a bunch i'm sorry i didn't get to them all actually i got a
couple things after the the what we read and oh yes so this is where we'll put in the what we read
and what we're going to read theme song fantastic let's do that now i'm doing the thing What are we reading today?
We did it
Yep
Success yet again
Again
Yep
That's teamwork
We both put our hands on the mouse
And we click and we cut and we paste
And we put it in there
It's like Ghost
It's like Ghost
With the computer
Yeah
What do you mean?
Look I'm on Facebook
And the Avengers trailer is happening my goodness literally
that's sponsored okay i got no i got no choice over what's happening um what i've been reading
i actually watched a film this year this week called it follows oh is that really good no
everybody everybody says it's amazing everybody says it's great it's not that great here's the
thing so it's a it's a horror movie it's in the style of the says it's amazing. Everybody says it's great. It's not that great. Here's the thing. So it's a horror movie.
It's in the style of The Ring.
It's essentially...
Japanese.
No, it's American.
I know.
Yeah, okay, good.
But the premise is that a girl meets this guy,
like a teenage girl meets this guy.
She's dating him.
They sleep together.
Is it this guy?
No, that's old homeless Sean Connery.
Oh, I still had that open. Yeah. Anyway, so she sleeps with this guy? No, that's old homeless Sean Connery. Oh, I still had that open.
Yeah.
Anyway, so she sleeps with this guy.
He reveals to her that he was cursed,
and now he's passed the curse onto her.
Sure.
And now she's going to be followed by this creature
that can take the form of anyone,
like people she knows, people she doesn't know.
Is it like a ghost or a ghoul, or what is it?
Yeah, it's sort of a ghoul. Is is it physical it's invisible to everybody except her can it walk through like a
door like a closed door no so you can like trap it in a box and kick it in the ocean it's pretty
strong though anyway without spoiling too much basically and so she's being she keeps being
followed by this slow moving creature so it can only walk it can only walk. That's like a Mike Myers kind of thing.
Is that a kind of throwback to those kind of movies?
It might be, yeah.
I think there's a lot of elements to other stuff.
But basically, this premise of this constantly creeping horror kind of thing.
And she can pass on the curse by sleeping with somebody else.
But if that person is then killed, then it gets passed back to her and so on and so forth.
And so, yeah.
Look, it's got a lot of moments of genuine
kind of tension
and creepiness
yeah
but plot wise
it doesn't really make
a lot of sense
and also
all the characters
are like these
genuinely
like indifferent
and morose teenagers
so ultimately
I really didn't care
with They Lived Away
but they're like
ugh
yeah exactly
yeah
we're dealing with this
like I saw it with some people and they were like ugh yeah exactly we're dealing with this are we
I saw it with some people
and they were like
yeah I felt more concerned
for their lives
than the actual characters did
for their own lives
so you know
if they don't care that much
why should I care
so would you say
it was creepy in parts
it was worth seeing
do you see the creature
you don't see it as it is
spoiler alert
yeah I don't care
I'm never going to see it
I'm not really a horror movies guy
other people might be
seeing it though
give a shit
yeah okay good
good stuff
look it was worth it
but yeah it doesn't
make a lot
don't think
watch it
and don't think about it
because that's been
lauded Mason
I know it's been lauded
that's why I went to see it
that's why I went to see it
okay
what have you been reading
this week
well I've been reading
they finished up
the Batman Endgame
comic book arc this week.
Oh, yes.
Which explains that, you remember that origin of the Joker we were talking about?
Is he an immortal man?
Is he not?
Oh, yes.
I'm not going to spoil it.
Okay.
I think it wraps up really well.
Tell you what, hold up one finger if he is immortal and two fingers if he's not immortal.
Okay.
One finger if he's not immortal.
And one finger if he is, two if he isn't.
Oh, that's the finger. One finger if he is, two if he isn't. That's the finger.
What was it again?
One if he isn't.
He's immortal.
One if he is immortal, two if he is not immortal.
Okay, great.
Now I know.
But at the same time, I read an interview with Scott Snyder
and it said it's also left slightly ambiguous.
It's fairly clear in the comic what it is, but's also you could interpret it a number of ways but it's got it's it's kind of
brings into an end scott snyder's staying on greg capullo but it's a that kind of brings to an end
their 40 issue kind of run right okay yeah he wasn't this is initially that was going to be
it for them and they're going to give it to somebody else okay uh but it feels very final
but because they kill batman at the end i can look i like he's definitively
dead i couldn't uh possibly say but let's yeah but that whole run that new 52 batman run is
incredible it's all good and it's all there now so if you haven't read it there's 40 issues to
go through and it's it's super good cool so there you go i've got a letter here though
from uh kush who has a letter oh yes what kush has read yes i love the podcast and most especially
i love meso's indifference towards preparing or ever listening back to the podcast yeah that's
the spirit i'd like to suggest uh what we're reading uh there was sorry there's an i was
there too episode from march 30, which features DC Pearson
from the Winter Soldier.
I heard Mason, I mentioned recognizing him in the Apple store from the Winter Soldier
review episode.
It's a great listen, so check it out if you get a chance.
I have listened to that.
It's really good.
It's really good.
Yeah.
Oh, you listened to it also?
I was there too.
Yeah.
Yeah, it's great.
We have talked about it.
I think we have, yeah.
I don't know if we've talked about that episode specifically.
Okay, no, it's really good.
Yeah, that whole podcast is really good, but if you want a little bit of insight into the Marvel movie making process and whatever,
I mean, obviously he only played a minor role.
I think he's got like 12 seconds of speaking time.
Something like that, yeah.
Something like that.
But it's interesting.
It's good and I like that guy.
Yeah.
You wanted him to be the new Stan Lee.
I did, yeah.
Did you like the Stan Lee cameo?
Yes, I did.
Yeah, he's good, isn't he?
Do you think he's getting too much screen time?
No.
Yeah, you're right.
You're right.
Yeah, I'm just kidding.
Just kidding.
How dare you?
Yeah.
He's getting better as an actor.
Yeah, I think so.
You didn't like him as Willy Lumpkin?
No.
He can go to hell.
That's fine.
Hey, guys.
My name is Tyler.
I got a letter.
Well, we got a letter.
Oh, yeah, great.
And I'm from New York.
Anyways, I recently saw Age of Ultron.
Forget about that.
I recently saw Age of Ultron.
And it's easily my favorite MCU movie.
I was wondering what you guys think of the movie, but I wonder what you guys...
We've bloody told you what we think of the movie.
No, you're not listening.
Oh, sorry.
I was wondering what you guys think of the movie release dates as everything was spoiled
for me eight days prior to seeing the movie i know
that this does not affect you guys and i was wondering if you think it's fair i looked up the
reason why the dates are different and it says because the overseas market is bigger and i would
argue that the overseas market is a bunch of countries and the united states is just one
it's just one so that isn't a fair comparison anyway who cares because as james said hug your
family because nothing matters
and we're all going to die anyway.
I did say that.
That is your legacy now.
Look, I love it because we get them first.
Yes, that is true.
Is it fair?
Yeah, because we get them first.
If you were to think outside of your...
Our internet's really slow.
It is slow, isn't it?
So everything works out even in the end.
Yeah, yeah internet sucks
yeah um i don't think it's fair i don't think it's fair i don't mind it because i think a lot
of people spoil it for other people like even in my like reviews or any review you see you go into
the comments and it's just some dickheads like this person dies just for no reason and that's
not cool don't do that don't be uncool but i'd be cool
like you have to stay off the internet like but also you should expect that so just don't read
anything yeah yeah i think i may have spoiled some of the game of thrones this season for myself
because i read a comment i'm like that better not be true right because i guess there are people on
the internet who need to let everyone know they've seen the thing as soon as possible.
So they have to be like, okay, here's the reveal and I've seen it.
So I have to tell everybody.
So everybody knows that I'm not in the ground floor kind of thing.
It would be fair if people weren't dicks to each other, but lo and behold.
Exactly.
Look, yeah.
Look, people shouldn't be doing that. But at the same time, if you don't want to be spoiled, just stay away from Age of Ultron related pages.
And traffic.
And traffic.
Like car traffic.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Stay out of that bloody traffic.
Stay out of the traffic.
Did your parents ever tell you when you were a kid
to go play in the traffic?
No.
My parents used to say that to me a lot.
What?
Surely not.
I'm assuming it was like, not literally.
Sounds like it was literal. You know what I should have done? Yes. I should have bloody gone and played in the traffic. That like it was literal.
You know what I should have done?
I should have bloody gone and played to the traffic.
That would have shown him.
That would have shown him, wouldn't it?
Yeah.
Got one more tweet here that I thought you'd find interesting.
I'm ready.
From Andrew Richardson.
He's at, at D-A-C-U-L-C-H-I-E.
Sure.
This is to you as well.
If that means it is 20s or 30s, the movie Bruce Wayne saw the night his parents died
was The Mask of Zorro from 1998.
1998.
Yep.
I did see that.
That is good.
Yeah.
Ties it all together.
Doesn't it?
Yeah.
Isn't that great?
Pretty good.
Yeah.
That means we'll have to, if we want this continuity to remain, they're going to have
to release a new Zorro movie fairly soon.
I told you, they're doing a future Zorro movie.
Really?
Yeah, I told you about this.
Fioro.
Yeah, Fioro.
Okay, great.
It's like Spanish in the future or whatever.
Mexico in the future.
There's like a hover train.
There's like a kind of a trial trailer,
whatever you call it on the internet.
A trial trailer?
A monorail.
That's what I meant to say.
That's the show for this week
fantastic we did it
yeah we did
where are we
what are we doing
what do we do
at the end of this
it's late
it is late

And I might be on one tomorrow or today because it's Monday when this comes out.
Nice.
So just go there and download it or don't.
That's the spirit.
You know what I mean?
That's their motto as well.
That is their motto.
Download it or don't.
So, yeah.
Great.
I'm really tired.
It's all right.
You only have to edit this and then release it.
It's fine.
Jesus.
it's alright you only have to edit this and then release it
it's fine
anyway I'm off to go home
and not do any of those things
I haven't even eaten

Sorry.
Yeah, I don't know.
It's fine.
All right, guys.
Grab dat gem.
Grab dat gem.
Bye.
Oh, we forgot to mention
somebody grabbed a gem in this.
Ultron grabbed dat gem.
Yes, he did.
And then the Vision grabbed dat gem.
Yeah.
That's what we like to say.
That's what it's all about, ultimately.
Isn't it?
Yeah.
Isn't it?
No, I was going to say
all the Phase 2 movies have the good ones have someone grabbing a gem but winter soldier nobody grabs
no gem exactly yeah exactly grab that gem or shield okay bye
