And you're listening to Too Scary, Didn't Watch.
Hi, everyone. Welcome to Too Scary, Didn't Watch, the horror movie recap podcast for those too scared to watch for themselves.
I'm Emily, and I am too scared to watch scary movies.
I'm Henley, and I am also too scared to watch for themselves. I'm Emily and I am too scared to watch scary movies. I'm Henley and I am also too scared to watch scary movies.
I am Sammy and I love scary movies.
She loves them.
She loves scary movies.
What's up?
What's up, you guys?
What's up with us?
That's what happens next, right?
That's what happens next. We tell you what's up? What's up, you guys? What's up with us? That's what happens next, right? That's what happens next. We tell you what's up.
We tell you and each other what's up. Guys, what's up?
So I two things. First of all, really distressed about Robert Pattinson having COVID. That's a that's big.
I like start. My heart started beating so fast.
Yeah. Like I really got freaked out.
You guys listeners, you know,
we're big fans of Rob.
Rob. R-A-W-B
because of his raw performances.
And so, yeah, that's, you know,
weighing heavily on me.
On all of us, Sammy.
On all of us.
On all of us.
Yeah.
So I wish him the best.
And I know, yeah, we talked about it a bit earlier, but we know he's living on a diet of piccolini cusciano and maybe doesn't have the strongest immune system.
It's not great.
Oh, so.
Rob.
so rob you know that really that's gonna be that's a costly um diagnosis because that they have to shut down the entire production right for yeah it's bad that's not good it's bad news for
for other productions for sure uh as well hey this is a very scary world that we're living in
currently and we don't know what the fuck we're doing.
Nobody does.
And another scary thing is I went outside for I feel like what was the first time in like six months.
And I got incredibly sunburned.
Oh, yes.
Yep.
And I haven't been sunburned in a long time it's like
i forgot how to be outside i forgot the rules and was just like you know i'll put a little bit of
sunblock on and so i had two like white patches on my knees from where i had applied the most
important spot to protect you gotta get the top of those knees.
I think it was just that that's what I felt burning.
So then I put it on there.
And so I had little very strange burn lines,
not tan lines, burn lines.
But yeah, I felt like my skin was on fire for two days.
It was not good.
And it's hard to sleep and it's hard to take
a shower. Everything is uncomfortable.
And then you're cold.
Yeah.
So I don't
think I'll be going outside again.
Yeah, don't do it, Sammy. It's not
worth it. Learned your lesson.
Safer and safer at home.
Am I right?
Correct. For many reasons. Well, while you're at home am i right correct for many reasons um well while you're at home
a recommendation i have uh which has been around for a while but i kind of only recently discovered
it is the new york times has this feature called diary of a song have you guys watched these videos
no no i feel like i've heard about them though. They're really fun. I highly recommend everyone go check them out. Basically, they interview the
artist who wrote the song and then all the producers and they talk about how the song
came together and the different iterations of it. And they do pop songs. So there's one for
Phoebe Bridger's Kyoto. Taylor Swift did one, but I didn't actually watch that video.
Grimes did one, which is really interesting to see Grimes interviewed over FaceTime.
FKA Twigs did one who just seems so cool.
I love her.
Wow, she seems cool.
Yeah, she does. So I binged, I binge watched a bunch of those today and it was very enjoyable and made me
want to be a music producer.
Too bad I have no musical talents, but what are you going to do?
Producers just need an ear, you know?
I don't have that either.
Oh, well then, yeah, you don't.
Yeah, you won't, you won't probably be that good at it.
You probably won't find success.
Sorry, Hen.
I don't think that's going to happen for you.
Yeah, me either.
That's okay.
What about you, Emily?
I really feel like I had something that I was going to say when we started this podcast
fucking three minutes ago, and I no longer remember it. So
I mean, God,
what's up with me? That happens
these days. My brain happens these
days with cheese all the time.
Swiss cheese all the time
in our brains.
What's
your favorite kind of cheese?
Wow.
Honestly, a sharp cheddar.
Like a white, like a white sharp cheddar.
Like a really sharp cheddar.
Yeah.
Like one that's like you take a bite and you're like, oh, like almost like biting a lemon.
But it's cheese, you know?
Oh, that's sharp.
Have you tried some Kerrygold?
I like their.
Kerrygold is good.
Kerrygold makes good butter, too.
I love their butter.
Sponsored by Kerrygold.
TSW Podcast.
Sponsored by Kerrygold.
We love dairy products.
And I really do.
And I really do.
I swear to God, I've been doing something.
But what could it possibly be?
You've been crafting with clay a lot.
I feel like you've never plugged that on here.
I've been crafting with clay a lot.
You know, I feel like you've never plugged that on here.
And listeners, she's really, really talented.
You should go check her out.
Oh, boy.
At Current Crush Shop on Instagram.
No, she's really, she's very good. Yeah, she's really good. I can't believe we haven't talked about that on this podcast, boy. At Current Crush Shop on Instagram. No, she's really, she's very good.
Yeah, she's really good.
I can't believe we haven't talked about that on this podcast, Emily.
I think, I mean, you've mentioned it, but maybe not in a crafting.
Maybe not in a like, it's available for purchase type way.
Not from a marketing perspective.
Not from a marketing perspective.
But yeah, okay.
I make things out of clay and you can buy them.
They're really beautiful. she makes really beautiful earrings

Emily, you should make Too Scary Didn't Watch earrings.
Like TSDW earrings.
That would be fun.
And then like, oh, you should make little earrings
that are Rob Pattinson's head.
Ooh, earrings that say R-A and then the other earrings say W-B.
Rob.
Everyone will know exactly what that is about.
Hey, listeners, if you want to buy earrings that say R-A, W-B, just let a girl know.

Anyway, so that's what's up.
I'm trying to think of how to transition here,
and I think your spooky glow-in-the-dark earrings
could come in handy for this week's movie.
Oh, no.
What is it, Sammy?
What is it?
What's the movie?
Oh, God, tell us.
This week's movie is Host.
It came out in July of 2020.
It is a film that was made entirely in quarantine.
It's a crisp 57 minutes long.
Short. Which is, yeah, very short. it's a crisp 57 minutes long which is
very short and
it's on Shudder
which is $5.99 a month but
they've got some great stuff on there
if you like horror movies so
sorry that's the only way to watch it
and if you don't like horror movies you probably
don't want to watch it
so you're fine
it's directed by Rob Savage written by Rob Like horror movies, you probably don't want to watch it. So you're fine. Yeah, yeah.
It's directed by Rob Savage, written by Rob Savage and Gemma Hurley, starring Hayley Bishop,
Gemma Moore, Emma Louise Webb, Radina Drandova, Caroline Ward, Edward Lenard, and Ceylon Baxter.
This movie scared me really good.
Oh, I'm worried.
You know, to be honest, I thought that we were doing The Host, which is a 2006 horror movie about like a sea animal.
That's Bong Joon-ho, the director of Parasite.
And that is what, cause someone said someone,
a listener had brought it up and I read it fast and I thought that as well. And I was like,
weird that they're suggesting that movie.
Cause they,
they said it like,
Oh,
and you'll probably do host.
And I was like,
why would we probably do a 2006 Korean movie?
It just seemed random.
But yes,
it is different host.
Know the host.
Obviously it's filmed all through Zoom.
So host obviously referring to, you know, the host of a Zoom meeting, which at this moment is me.
And I'm really uncomfortable with.
I just got the chills.
This whole filming, I mean, recording experience is bringing back a lot of a lot of things for me
oh no i'm very scared to hear i'm scared yeah sammy i'm sammy you being scared is
making me feel scared and i don't i don't like that one little bit i made silent jenna watch it
with me we like to to sync up our playing and watch things in our separate houses
and then text the whole time
it's funny for
her to refer to her as silent Jenna
in this way because it sounds like she's silent
just all the time
our silent friend
she can speak, she doesn't
she's our silent friend
that's just how we like it, We prefer for her to stay quiet.
Well, when we were recording in person, she would always be there and be silent.
But lately, she has not been at our recordings.
So she's more silent than ever.
More silent than ever.
She's just our other best friend, okay?
That's who she is so we okay
okay are you guys happy she's our other friend okay let's clear it up let's clear it up she
talks and she can talk she's our friend okay you get the picture okay
um um um yeah so we were texting and just there were a few parts where we were both like
well i thought she was gonna i thought she was gonna dip out on me i thought she was gonna leave
me she was like i can't i can't do this whoa and it's also only 57 minutes which is like i mean it
doesn't take that long to get really scared but it feels like even worse if the movie's short and
you're like i can't do it i can't do it, I can't do it, because it's like, oh, Sammy.
I'm scared.
I'm scared.
Hi, friends.
Welcome to Cocktail Hour.
This week's drink is the Frankenjack cocktail.
To make this drink, you're going to need one and a half ounces of gin, half an ounce of
apricot brandy, half an ounce of triple sec, and one
and a half ounces of extra dry vermouth. You're going to shake all ingredients with ice and fine
strain into a chilled martini glass and garnish with an orange zest twist. I know the ingredients
for this one are a little strange. I doubt you have apricot brandy on hand. Congratulations if
you do. But sometimes the name of a cocktail just fits so dang well
with the movie, I'd be a fool not to pick it.
So
that's what's up.
Hope that you are able to make this drink
and enjoy it. Either way,
make yourself a drink.
You deserve it. And cheers.
We've got some
trivia, just a bit.
The director, Rob rob savage is 28
whoa that's too young young guy i mean we don't like it i guess it's like not even that young
anymore it's just young because we're getting older but like wasn't how old was um um no it's
not i the only reason i say that is because i'm old. I don't age. My age? Everybody else's age is relative to mine.
And if you're younger than me, you're too young.
I just forgot Steven Spielberg's name for so long.
I thought I was going to just collapse.
We were rambling, so no one noticed.
No one even noticed.
Okay, but I was going to say, how old was Steven Spielberg when he directed Jaws?
Because he was young.
Oh, my God, no.
No, I want him to be old.
Well, wasn't whoever did
Evil Dead really, really young too?
Wasn't he like 22 or something?
They were just out of college.
20 years old.
That happens all the time. Yeah, Sam Raimi.
Yeah.
All this to say,
Rob Savage is pretty old
if you really think about it.
God damn it, Sammy.
How dare you?
That's the scariest thing about this movie.
And so basically in the beginning of quarantine, he set up a way to like prank his friends through Zoom and he recorded it.
And so he recorded that he was like going up to his attic to like
that he heard a noise and he had i don't know how he did it but he made it so that a fucking demon
jumped out and he fell off the ladder and the like computer fell and his friends are all like
watching like oh my god oh my god he's not he's not moving. And it was just a quick little like couple minute short listeners.
You can find it on YouTube and it like went viral and Shudder decided they wanted to turn
it into a feature length movie.
So cool.
He sounds like a mean friend.
I'm sure that these friends like know that he's this kind of friend right you don't
have just a regular friend that all of a sudden does this out of nowhere i feel no you sort of
see this see this coming oh that is that's my friend who would do that yeah yeah yeah that's
my friend who would do that because they're i mean most of them are freaking out but there is
one guy that's like whoa how did you do that like he immediately knows that it's like not real
But there is one guy that's like whoa how did you Do that like he immediately knows that it's like
Not real
Shut up you're ruining it
That's also the danger of being that
Friend because when it's real and then you have
A friend being like that's so cool man how'd you do that
Like no no
Pranking is bad and I disagree with it
I don't like pranking either
I also hate pranking I have a friend
Who really loves doing prank phone calls
And she used to make me do them also.
And I just would hate doing them.
Oh, it's really funny to imagine being forced into doing a prank phone call.
Laurel.
And so, okay. um and so okay so because it was filmed through zoom in quarantine all of the actors had to do kind of their own special effects so he would do um basically zoom meetings where he would show
them how to do practical effects with fishing wire and whatnot.
And I just think it's really impressive that all these are all his friends cast in the movie. So
they're all it's just him and a group of friends. But yeah, they all did the special effects look
cool. And of course, some are done in VFX and post, but I think they did a lot of good practical effects. That's so cool. Just by
themselves, which is cool. Do you think that, because I've been thinking about how there are
so many opportunities to recreate like a paranormal activity vibe in the coronavirus era.
Do you feel like it reaches that level of paranormal activity? Is it that good? That scary?
reaches that level of paranormal activity is it that good that scary honestly yeah and there's there's a interview with him where he definitely says i was inspired by paranormal activity and
blair witch and i think it is on that level where these really minimal productions sometimes get to be the scariest because you have
to be really creative
and and like something
about I would imagine like the video
quality of zoom like we're all
used to seeing it like it's very easy to imagine
there being something there that you're like what
am I really seeing or
and it's scary just
taking advantage of
the fear like our fears
because we're all alone in our houses
and making
everyone uses zoom
now and so it's like making zoom
scary
it was only a matter of time
I wonder if zoom is pissed
zoom actually
they actually filmed it
through zoom and so I guess he had to get permission from zoom Zoom is pissed. Zoom actually, they actually filmed it through Zoom.
And so I guess he had to get permission from Zoom.
Wow.
And so I don't think they were pissed because I think they had to sign off on it.
That's fun.
I'm excited to hear about this.
I'm stressed because we're literally Zooming right now, but it's okay.
It's going to get spooky.
Should we watch the trailer?
Let's watch to get spooky. Should we watch the trailer? Let's watch it.
Okay.
Have you ever done anything like this before?
I've never done this over Zoom.
Obviously, we're not physically together,
but there's no reason why Spirit can't communicate over the internet.
Nothing's going to happen.
Visualize us sitting in a circle.
Spirit, we invite you to use us
to pass on any communication.
Is there anyone there?
Please come forth.
What was that?
Amy, was that you?
I heard it.
I heard something.
I think there's something here.
Do you see that?
There's something.
Yeah, we've connected with something. We've got to keep going. We've got to talk to it.
This is not good. I told you not to disrespect the spell.
It could be something. Hayley, this is all your fault disrespect the spellets. It could be something. I told you.
Hayley, this is all your fault.
Not my fault.
It is your fault.
Jenny!
Why are we doing this?
Oh, my God.
Why are we doing this right now?
I told you.
My God.
I told you recording through Zoom was going to be really stressful.
We're at the scene of the crime.
We're at the scene of the crime.
Wow, it looks really scary.
Oh, my God.
Fuck.
Also, wow.
Those effects.
I'm so impressed that people individually filmed this in their own homes.
It looks really fucking cool.
Yeah, I was trying to read more about that, about which ones are entirely them or what
they did VFX.
Because there's a lot of things where all the cabinets open at one time.
And I'm like, how the fuck do you set that up in your house?
And I guess they did.
And they would have just a timer where they could press a button.
And it would all automatically push it open
it would honestly it would be so
scary filming this and being alone
like
even though you know that you're doing it it would
freak me the fuck out to be like
making that shit happen in my own house
alone at night
I guess the good thing in the movie is that they
do clearly do a seance.
So that makes it
feel a little bit more like, well, I'm not
I'm not going to do a seance.
Right, you can rationalize. But as the actors,
wouldn't you be like, what could we have
really brought? We just did a seance.
So like, you know,
also, Sammy, you failed to mention that there's
a good accent in this movie. Excuse me.
Oh, there's a few accents.
Yeah, there's only one American person and the rest are British and one of them might
be Australian.
I didn't quite.
I couldn't quite tell.
Oh, and there's a Scottish person.
Scottish.
Yeah.
Cool.
Wow.
I'm very scared.
I don't know how you watched this.
It was tough.
Good God.
But I'm also really excited because this is like the kind of scary movie that I'm like
way too scared to ever watch.
But I have all like I'm I'm already like, what happens?
I want to know because I'll never see it.
The whole point of the podcast, you know.
OK, let's let's dive in.
Let's dive in.
Let's just rip this bandaid off, Sammy.
I just I'm buckling up.
Good, good, good. I used to love back-to-school shopping so much that I would tell my mom that
I wanted to work at Staples when I grew up because I just loved getting all the things that I needed
that I would use every day in class. I still to this day have nightmares about showing
up in class without notebooks or number two pencils. Really scary stuff. But luckily I wake
up and I realize I don't actually need notebooks or number two pencils anymore. but this fall there is something that I will be using every day and would be
terrified to be caught without, and that's Raycon's best-selling everyday earbuds. I've been trying to
go on walks every day, and so I need earbuds that I can rely on to listen to all my favorite
podcasts, and I know you guys listen to podcasts as well so you know what I'm talking
about. I got my Raycons in carbon black because that's my vibe but they come in other cool colors
as well like forest green and brush violet but my favorite thing about them is the battery life. They stay charged for 32 hours and they have a new quick charge function.
So 10 minutes of charging gets you 90 minutes of battery life.
Really freaking convenient for, I don't know, say a long morning walk.
You forgot to charge them and you just need a little bit of juice to listen to one episode of
a podcast. It's only going to take you 10 minutes. It's incredible. So go to buyraycon.com slash

So we start with a character named Haley, who is the American one.
And she's in her room setting up the Zoom call.
She's going through a list, inviting various people.
And right away, Jenna and I got scared because their names are a little too close for comfort.
Uh-huh.
Their names are Haley.
No.
Gemma.
Emily. And there is a Sam in the choices.
There's a Caroline.
We have a friend named Caroline.
She's in the episode of The Witch if you want to listen to it.
But it was just like all of our friends' names and I immediately got scared.
I hate it.
I hate this.
I hate it.
I hate it.
So, Henley, you're the Haley.
So, she invites... I'm the Gem it. So Henley, you're the Haley. So she invites.
I'm the Gemma, right?
No, you're the.
Silent.
Silent Jenna's the Gemma.
And Emily, there's you're the Emma.
There is an Emily also in the choices, but it's Emma that gets invited.
So she invites all of her friends.
And then we see through the zoom screen that there's
someone in a waiting room but she has set the computer on the bed and then she hears like a
banging noise it's still daytime out um but she she seems like she's already a little freaked out
and she goes she says hello is anybody there um we get a fake-out scare with a closet opening and a vacuum falling out or something.
And the banging has come from the window.
She opens it.
Gemma is outside throwing little sticks at the window.
And she points at her phone.
She says, I'm in the waiting room.
Let me in so she's runs back to the computer to um
allow jemma in and then it's hayley and jemma talking to each other jemma walks with her cell
phone now in the zoom call and goes home so she lives pretty close to hayley wherever she is
and this is a brit film, by the way.
I guess most of them are British.
So it makes sense.
But they're in the UK.
So then they're kind of talking like, have you ever done anything like this before?
Haley says, yeah, I've done it a few times.
And something happens usually each time.
But this is the first time we're doing it over
zoom so who knows and jemma then gets to her apartment sets up her laptop or whatever
and so she has both of them open at the same time and it's doing that feedback thing and
this is when i was texting jen oh god jenna it really is you because jen is always
she is always doing bothen is always she is always
doing both she is always doing both um and then uh two more of their friends enter into the into
the zoom room emma and radina and radina does a a cough and they're all like, oh no, she's coughing. She's coughing.
And then they laugh. She's like, I'm fine, guys. I just had a stupid cough. And they make a joke,
like it's not okay to cough now. And one of them says, you have to cover a cough with a fart
instead of the other way around. And it really made me laugh imagining having to fart so loud that people can't hear you cough.
Just farting like constantly.
And like that you have to make it look like you're not coughing.
The logistics of it really got me.
The logistics.
Oh, I don't know.
That really makes me laugh too
um and then caroline enters the room and then we see radina again she mutes herself
and we see her and her boyfriend kind of starting to have a fight in the in the background and
they're all whispering like oh no here we go and they're like oh we knew she shouldn't have moved in with her boyfriend right at the beginning of this like what a horrible time to wow they're all whispering like oh no here we go and they're like oh we knew she
shouldn't have moved in with her boyfriend right at the beginning of this like what a horrible time
to move they're really leaning into every aspect yes yes modern life exactly uh the boyfriend kind
of storms out of the of the room that she's in and goes to his bedroom or whatever and she's like no
it's fine when we get
in fights i get the whole house to myself so who cares but like clearly there's tension there and
it's not going if their relationship doesn't seem to be doing well um emma uh puts on that really
scary snapchat filter that we saw in the trailer where it's kind of like a demon-y face.
And she says, guys, this is going to be us later.
She's kind of making jokes about it, putting on different Snapchat. You don't make jokes with a demon.
You don't make jokes about a demon.
Yeah, the demon doesn't have a sense of humor.
Yeah.
And Caroline shows that Caroline gets set up in her room.
She's in PJs.
And she says, guys, check this out.
I've been so lonely. I had to make myself a friend and she sets her background to a looping video of herself walking in through the door
and just like going to her desk or her dresser and like putting clothes away and then walk
turning around and walking back out so there's two of her in the frame that's really freaky I didn't know you could do that
yeah you can
also what's freaky about that is you can't
actually see what's in her room
which is maybe something that
they're gonna deal with
yes
and then finally
we meet Teddy
who is their guy friend who is at like a country.
He's in like countryside with his girlfriend and her parents, I guess.
We don't see the parents.
We just see his girlfriend kind of sitting by a pool.
He's got, they make fun of him.
He has a man bun because his hair is grown out in quarantine.
And he says, I think it's called a twat knot.
Twat knot. twat knot twat knot made me laugh um so he leaves his girlfriend by the pool and goes inside to to set up and shows he has like a spooky music box it's like like, this is, um,
my thing.
We don't quite know yet, but he opens it.
He's like,
my brother used to scare the shit out of me with this plays creepy music,
a music box.
They're scary.
They're scary.
We're getting the sense that Haley is the person that has organized this.
She's the only one that has done it before.
Most of them are not really taking it super
seriously. Caroline and Emma are kind of a little freaked out by it. And Haley says,
okay, like when she comes in, I don't think any of you would, but please just be respectful and
don't embarrass me. Teddy says, okay okay can we take a cheeky shot before
and they just all take a little cheeky shot and say happy seance happy spooky
happy spooky happy spooky that's how we should start every podcast i like it happy spooky
it did it i liked it i was like oh i like this uh what what a catchphrase
happy spooky happy spooky and okay and so they take their little shot and then enter
ceylon who is uh the woman who will be leading the seance she's scottish scottish i'm trying
to think of a i I can't do it.
I'm not even going to try.
She's from Scotland.
Scotland.
Scotland.
Oh, that was pretty good.
So she comes in and she says, asks if you've all got your objects that are representative of the person you're trying to speak to.
And so that's what his little music box is.
And they all kind of hold up.
They each have a thing.
And the idea is that they'll be reaching out to the spirits, the other side, to see if
they can communicate with people who have passed.
Gemma says, my grandparents are Chinese.
So will I not be able to understand them if I can reach them?
And she says, no, no, there's no language on the other side.
Like if they have something to communicate to you, they'll be able to do it.
You can see Gemma kind of rolls her eyes a little bit.
And some of them are kind of like leaning into the Zoom frame, like still taking shots,
but like not well out of frame, like just very, very visibly taking shots and still
kind of giggling and not taking it too seriously.
Also, I just want to comment real fast, like what friend group still like take shots together?
You know?
Only we did like a couple months ago.
I've done it.
Yeah, I feel like.
Oh, that's true.
We did.
But that was a real special occasion.
We only took one shot.
You don't think a seance is a real special occasion?
We get the sense that they haven't seen each other in a
while and I think they're trying to
When we did shots before you moved, I also
haven't done shots
for years before that and I don't ever
really
intend to do shots.
I feel like now when you take shots, it's
like, well, you're going to black out.
Yeah, I mean, I
had to literally go home after that yeah
because taking shots is for people that are 21 and even then you black out right
but you bounce back faster yeah because all of them from the trailer it seemed like they were
all like how old do you think they are well Well, I'm guessing around 28 since Rob Savage is 28.
Right, right, right.
Okay.
They're going to regret it in the morning.
Okay.
If that's what you're asking.
Probably for multiple reasons.
Mm-hmm.
So, okay.
So Ceylon is leading the seance.
She says, does everyone have their candle?
Light your candle.
They each place a candle in front of them in the center of the Zoom frame.
So now they all have some spooky lighting and it looks creepy. And Ceylon says, you know,
just stay aware, keep an eye out for if your candle flickers or if you feel any breeze or
if any light flickers, like anything where a spirit might be trying to reach you and she says you
know this is my first time doing this over zoom too and so we'll be a little bit less protected
um because we're not together so we'll have to just just be extra respectful. Less protected. Yeah, I don't like that one bit.
No.
Yeah, no, it's not a good sign.
And Emma and Caroline are getting a little scared.
And she says, oh, it's okay if you get scared. What you're going to do is just visualize us all holding hands in a circle and visualize breaking the circle.
So letting go of their hands and visualize a cord
a rope tied around you that leads to the door and cutting that cord and that will break the
circle or whatever this this is the technique that is too many steps when she's like if you're
scared just do this is okay i'm not expecting a full, a whole thing. Like, what?
First I have to picture us holding hands.
Then I have to picture us not holding hands.
Then I have to picture a cord around my waist attached to a door.
Then I have to picture cutting that cord.
You think I can do all that when I'm very, very scared?
Yeah, I was going to say I'm not great at visualization in any setting.
And if I'm really scared, I'm definitely going to be worse at it. Say, come on.
Have a better go to.
Yeah.
And so.
OK, so then they they get quiet at all.
The rooms are dark and spooky.
And she says, OK, everyone, close your eyes and we're going to welcome in the spirits and ask if anyone has anything to say to us. And then we see in Teddy's camera,
his girlfriend barging in,
putting her arms around him, kissing him.
I guess she's horny.
And the girlfriend just looks at the camera
and says, Teddy's got to go,
and closes the computer.
And they're all like,
okay, did he really just do that?
Whatever.
Let's start again.
So they close their eyes again and say, is anyone there?
Please come forward.
And then they hear a knock.
And whenever there's a noise, obviously, you can't immediately tell where it's coming from
because there's six of them on the screen and so they and they all hear it because it's you know
being transmitted through zoom and so everyone turns which is a creepy thing to like not know
if the noise is coming from your house or not. Yeah, that's scary. And so they all hear it.
And Ceylon says, okay, if you have something to tell us,
knock again.
And we hear.
And they all look really scared.
And Ceylon goes, oh, I'm so sorry.
It's my delivery.
That's great.
That's great.
That was a good accent, Sammy.
That was good.
Thank you.
And she jumps up to go answer the door.
Also, Ceylon's house is very scary.
And I mean, they all filmed it in their actual houses.
So I guess they just got lucky that this woman's house was just really creepy um it's she looks
like she's in a stone basement that's awful and so she's out of frame answering the door and
they're all kind of looking at her house being like her house is really creepy and she comes
back and she says I'm so sorry i'm so sorry you were supposed to come
um earlier so they go back to it and they're all sitting there eyes closed okay is there
anything there anything want to speak to us and jemma all of a sudden goes jumps up screams and is like holding her neck and like breathing really
heavily and they're like Gemma Gemma what's going on and she says my neck the pressure I feel
pressure on my neck and she's like starting to cry pressure on my neck is like unbearable and Emma and Caroline getting really freaked out and Ceylon's like
it's okay it's okay it's probably just someone trying to talk to you ask ask if you can what
their name is try to see what their name is and she like sits down again and she's like i'm getting the name jack and she says okay what do you know a jack that passed
and she says yeah in school there was a kid named jack who was really nice to me and he ended up
he hung himself um oh god and she's crying, Ceylon, as if she hears something behind her, turns and looks behind her really quickly.
And then her camera turns off.
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
So she is now out of it.
And then Gemma is crying with her hand covering her eyes and face.
And after Ceylon leaves, she takes her hand off of her face and she's smiling.
She was joking.
Wait, what?
She was.
Oh, so Gemma was joking.
Yeah.
Gemma was joking.
And so they're all like, what?
That is fucked up.
They're like, what the fuck, Gemma?
And she's like, sorry, nothing was happening. I felt like joking. Yeah. Gemma was joking. So they're like, what? That is fucked up. They're like, what the fuck, Gemma? She's like, sorry, nothing was happening.
I felt like bored.
Wow.
I'm so glad we don't have a friend like that.
This is not Jenna.
I need to claim this is definitely not Jenna.
The friend who's like, sorry, I just need to stir some shit up.
What?
I was bored.
Me being mean is fine because i was bored
it's also just like it's very selfish because it's prioritizing your experience over literally
everyone else and it's rude and i don't like jemma and i bet she's gonna get it get her as I'm betting guessing to be well to be able to say
with a straight face too to be like he really liked me and he hung himself like to say that
as a joke also just I mean speaks to a pretty morbid sense of humor and maybe it's also just
in the retelling but it seems like the very little time passed before Gemma was like nothing was
happening it's like yeah it was
not a lot of time fucking come
on man well they took their cheeky shots
so she's feeling she's got it she's
cheeky drunk she's cheeky drunk
and so they decide
to they take a pee break and
I'll get up
very relatable very relatable
and listeners we did
a little pee break before the trailer and I came back first to all these
empty Zooms and it scared me.
So, because then we just sit on their empty rooms for a while, which is a very unsettling
shot.
That's such a great choice.
And nothing happens, but it's just scary um then they they
come back and hayley is obviously pissed she's just kind of being silent and jemma is like
hayley hayley just kind of fucking with her again and hayley just starts yelling at her she's like
what the fuck jem just shut the fuck up like like you're bugging the shit out of me i can't believe you did that
they start screaming at each other and just as they're screaming um hayley's chair gets pulled
back all the way across the room with her in it so basically her chair like flies across the room
with her in it and they all shut up and they're
like how did you do that and she's like i didn't fucking do that and she picks up the chair and
like shows it to them she's like she's like what's happening i don't know i don't know it did that
and she says hello is anything here picks up her laptop to go exploring with it. So we get to see it.
A lot of that like handheld creepy.
Handheld is scary.
It's so scary.
And she's looking in her dark hallway, opening the closet again that the vacuum was in.
Just like walking down dark hallways, opening doors is very scary to me.
Turn the lights on.
Just turn the lights on.
Yeah, I don't know why she didn't turn those lights on.
Then we hear another loud bang.
And she says, that wasn't in my house.
So the rest of them are all kind of looking around.
And Caroline says, it was in my house.
I heard it.
And she opens her bedroom door.
And we hear it again.
And it's coming from her attic.
You thought there wouldn't
be an attic in this movie there is and they're all like caroline you have to check it out which
is like not true no don't do it don't do that but she does and she gets a selfie stick i don't know
if she's on a phone but she she basically gets a selfie stick so that she
can reach it into the attic without having to fully be in there. And so only-
Now that's smart, Caroline. This is the way to do it.
She reaches it up, slowly rotating it. We're getting a look around the creepy, dark attic,
the creepy dark attic rotating
rotating and we rotate past
a pair of dangling corpse
feet and
just move past it quick
and then she they're like what was that
and she turns back it's gone
nothing's there
but she freaks out
and um starts she bursts into tears she's crying she runs back into her room
she like carries the computer back or whatever gets set back up on her desk and is crying she's
like what the fuck do i do what the fuck is happening um and then there's another noise at
hayley's house and she's in her very dark bedroom looking out into a very dark hallway. And there's just kind of like a glimmer of a light that looks like maybe someone's eyes or maybe a reflection on a doorknob or a metal surface of some sort.
You just can't quite tell because not only is it dark, but she's also not full screen.
She's like one of six video screens.
So that's another thing where you're really like squinting to see, which is extra creepy.
But she is seeing she's seeing something.
She's do you guys see that?
Do you guys see that?
And she's whispering.
And then she says, it looked at me.
And they're like, we don't see we don't see.
And they're all squinting to try to see.
This is Haley.
You said Haley.
Yeah.
And the one whose chair flung her across the room?
Mm-hmm.
And so she pulls out a Polaroid camera.
Oh, no.
And takes a picture of that area.
And we still don't really see anything.
And she lets it develop, shaking it.
You're not supposed to, but develop shaking it you're not supposed
to but she does you're not supposed to and we see a hanging man in her living room no
no a hanging man like a full man just the bottom a full man with i feel like he has like a burlap
sack over his head but to be honest with you guys i didn't see it the first time i only saw it um when i was going through it again to take notes because it's really
in the back like hidden and you really gotta squint to see it um and then they're all leaning
in and looking and in emma's frame she her wine glass shatters and it's like a loud jump scare. And she like jumps back.
She's screaming and crying.
What the fuck's going on?
Haley gets on the phone.
She's like, I'm going to call Ceylon back.
Ceylon answers.
Caroline is really crying and they're freaking out.
She's, Ceylon, we've made contact with something.
I don't know that it's good
um like we need help and she says it's okay it's okay it's probably just someone trying to tell
you something and um Gemma had mentioned her friend Jack and so like tell tell me more about
Jack and they're like well we can't tell you more about Jack becauseemma made him up and she says jemma jemma he's not real or he
is real and she just didn't hear him and he said they say no he's not real at all and she says
well that's not good because when you um we summoned a false spirit and basically when you
do that you're creating a
mask for anything
to come in and like take the
form of Jack now basically
so you've like created
you know what you should set up some
ground rules before
you dive right into something like this
this should have been relayed yes earlier
however she did say be respectful
because you're not protected.
That's true. That's a pretty
I don't think I would need
to be told upon entering a
seance to not fuck
with anything.
I don't blame Ceylon.
I blame Gemma. We know my
feelings about Gemma and they are not
changing.
Gemma's not in the friend group anymore
after this. And you know what? I bet
if Gemma had known, she still would have done it
because she doesn't believe in it and she's being a little bitch.
No, you're right. You're right.
You know what? I don't believe in it, but just to be cautious,
I would never do something like Gemma did.
Never! Thank you, Henley.
That really brings me a lot of relief
as your friend
to know. Don't be a Gemma.
For the record, I liked Gemma.
I think she was my favorite character.
This is interesting.
So, Ceylon says, okay, okay, this isn't good.
But, you know, ask if they have a message for you.
So, okay, she says, okay, let's ask if it has a message.
We'll ask all at the same
time one two three do you have a message for us and they all say it they'll have to say it in
their individual houses and the light a light turns on and off really quick in hayley's house
she says the light just turned on and off and she says okay okay so they do have a message and so now we'll ask are you are you a friend so one two three are you a friend and then all the lights
in everybody's houses start turning on and off they all start screaming the phone line goes dead
Ceylon is not on the phone she's saying hello hello C, hello, Ceylon. She's not there. Phone's dead. They're panicking. Caroline is really, really panicking and crying. And Haley's trying to talk her down
and being like, it's okay. Do the thing that she said. Imagine us holding hands. Imagine us letting
go and like cut the rope. And she's like trying to do that. And things die down a bit and the the lights you know turn back on and um they all sit back down
and they think they've closed the circle it's quiet again they're like okay okay and um
hayley sneezes and then they all start laughing which i read was just she just did sneeze that was not in the
script and so they all just kind of started laughing but it like breaks the tension nicely
and like brings them back to like okay like hopefully this is over oh no and so they're like
okay um um starting to kind of say their goodbyes and they're like that was
that was wild can't believe we did that emma puts her um her little face filter back on the
snapchat filter it's now one where she has like a little serpent tongue coming out and she's like
bye okay okay radina is they're not gonna talk about how that they just had a supernatural
experience
I guess not I guess not
but I guess it's too soon
Rodina is like walking around or
yeah they're like about to say bye Caroline is
also gone to the bathroom or something
and so
they're like okay let's say bye and then she's like
well we'll wait for Rodina and Caroline
to say bye Rod And then she's like, well, we'll wait for Rodina and Caroline to say bye.
Rodina comes back and she's like, have you guys seen my boyfriend?
I can't remember his name.
Like, did you see if he left?
She's like calling him on the phone and his phone is ringing and his phone is there and she can't find him in the house.
And she's like, well, I guess I guess he is mad and like stormed off.
Maybe he went to his brother's house or something. He's like, I did. She's like, I didn't see he is mad and like stormed off maybe he went to his
brother's house or something he's like i didn't she's like i didn't see him leave though i didn't
hear him leave oh no and she mutes herself as she's like looking and um so they're waiting for
caroline to say to say bye to her and she like walks in the door and walks over to her dresser starts putting the clothes in
and they're like caroline caroline we're gonna go to bed like come over here and then they're like
oh shit that's her that's her filter right that's the or yeah the video background
and just then through like pixelated through her looping background, her face for real like flies through and smashes into the camera and then pulls back and goes back to the video background.
So it's just like for a second.
And like they weren't totally paying attention, but saw something and like heard her computer bang and they're like what what was that what was that and it's like just her looping around
in the background they're like caroline caroline that's so scary it's so scary it was the part
my heart literally i felt like my ribs caved in like it was such a scary jump scare and it's it's
It was such a scary jump scare.
And it's really smart because in these moments in regular horror films, you know, you're looking at a particular area like the doorway or a window or a closet.
And this was just like the whole screen became her.
And it's, oh, my God, it looks so scary.
It's such a good way, too, to make it so terrifying and also not have to show it.
Like, such a great filmmaking technique.
Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm.
And we've talked about this before, obviously, but with stuff like paranormal activity and found footage, there's obviously no music cues.
Yeah, there's no music in any of this.
Yeah, that also makes it extra scary in a way right um so they're they're trying to figure out
what's happening with caroline they're yelling caroline caroline calling her i think they hear
her phone ringing in her room she's not answering emma's crying and then em Emma sees the face filter on
just empty
space in her room.
So it's like
a Snapchat filter
that's just...
A face.
Like a clown face.
It's like a masquerade
mask type thing.
Oh, like a Joker mask mask kind of and she walks
towards it reaches her hand towards it and it turns to face her as she gets she runs she runs
back into her kitchen and fishes out a thing of flour and then runs and throws the flour all over oh um that was smart to see you
know as we've seen in other movies that maybe it could land on it like a hollow man situation
it doesn't it just goes on the floor she's like okay it's maybe that was just nothing
and then all of the cabinets in the kitchen burst open all at once everything flies out of the cabinets in the kitchen burst open all at once. Everything flies out of the cabinets.
She starts screaming, pans the camera down, and we see footsteps coming toward her through the flower.
No, no, no, no, no. She starts running and through.
We see just her kind of running back towards her bedroom.
And then she is lifted up by something towards the attic and you
see just from the camera pov like her feet dangling and hear her screaming and they're all screaming
like what's going on and she falls back down picks the computer back up she's not dead but something
like picked her up and dangled her and she runs into the room and runs underneath her covers, and she's sobbing, and she's under the covers.
Still, now the face filter is on her face, so she's crying,
and now it's got the little snake tongue coming out of her mouth,
which I thought was just a nice touch of being so scared
and having a silly face filter on.
If I was that scared, I guess it makes sense,
but I would never hide under my covers.
That makes me feel more vulnerable vulnerable i feel like i need to run outside like run into the street or
something yeah just to like get out of your house yeah i think that would be my first instinct i
think so i think i would go outside for sure um but radina is still muted. She is, I guess, calling her boyfriend, looking for her boyfriend.
And we see that her oven is smoking.
And so now they're yelling at her to get her attention.
She hasn't seen any of this happen.
She doesn't know that it's getting more severe by the moment.
They're like screaming, screaming, get out of the house, get out of the house.
They're like screaming, screaming, get out of the house, get out of the house.
She runs to the oven, turns it off and then runs back, unmutes herself.
She's like, what are you guys screaming about? And just as she says that, her boyfriend's body falls in the background behind her and like smashes behind her.
No.
And she starts screaming and then something knocks her over and we see the
computer falls and we just see from this kind of awkward low angle at the ceiling you see her feet
being dragged at dragged and then you hear like a neck breaking and like a drop of blood lands on the computer camera. And so it's just a very now it's a still shot of basically the ceiling of her apartment with like a drop of blood.
Oh, that's so scary.
That's so scary.
Wow.
Holy shit.
I like I'm curious.
I want to see it.
I want to see this.
I mean, it's really good. I mean, it's done. It's so clever and so effectively scary with just a few little things.
I mean, it's really good.
So then we see in the chat window, Caroline is sending gibberish.
Oh, my God.
Text after text of gibberish. And they're like,
what is Caroline trying to say?
And again, we've got her looping background.
And then again, we
see her face smash at the
screen. And so she's going in and
out, like pixelated, unpixelated. We see
her blood is pouring down her face.
She's screaming. She's screaming like
help me. But her
face is like smashing into the camera like she's screaming she's screaming like help me god but her but her face is like smashing into
the camera like she's like destroying her computer with her face oh my god um they're all screaming
and then eventually um she collapses onto the computer but again it switches back to her video
background oh my god oh my god oh my god yeah wow i feel like this demon or whatever this is
is making a quick work of it just being like i will kill you i will kill you i will kill your
boyfriend i'm gonna kill you next i'm just i'm going house to house through the internet i'm
gonna kill all of you super fast not trying to make any demands just fucking taking lives lives yep then they're all screaming
hayley is screaming her chair pulls back again she jumps off of it like turns and screams like
fuck you or whatever at the church like what the fuck is happening and then um is knocked off of
her feet and seemingly dragged out of the room.
And then the door slams behind her.
So from the Zoom camera, we don't see her anymore.
No.
Gemma panics, stands up, starts putting on her mask and her coronavirus mask.
Oh, because she lives close to her.
Because she lives close to her.
And so she just runs.
And Emma is now the only remaining one. And Emma is like jemma no no no don't leave me don't leave me
and she's like i'm sorry like i have to go i have to go check on her jemma leaves wait what
happened to teddy did teddy leave he's getting fucked teddy checked out early on his girlfriend
like good for teddy man he turned off his camera oh right right right the girlfriend
turned off his camera right right right okay that was in this circumstance being horny maybe saved
the day maybe oh no so then we get so now it's just a shot of i think five cameras. So only Emma,
who is under the covers,
freaking out and four empty rooms.
That's so sad.
That is so sad.
And she's sad.
It's very stressful. And then just at this moment,
Teddy pops back in and he's just had sex.
He's feeling great.
Comes in. He's like, sex he's feeling great comes in he's like what's up what i miss
and and emma emma is like crying and whispering and he says she's like teddy teddy no you can't
like they're they're all i think they're all dead and he's like not getting it and he's like not getting it. And he's like, what's what's happening? You guys fucking with me?
And then the lights turn off in his apartment.
And he says, oh, it happens all the time out here in the country.
No big deal.
And she's like, no, no, no, no, no.
Like, it is a big deal.
She's like, we called something.
There's something here.
And he's like, stop it. Like, you're being ridiculous.
What does Teddy think they all planned to be out of frame when he popped back in without
them knowing and they're playing a big old prank on him?
Teddy's very self-involved.
Big group of selfish friends here.
I just hate this whole friend group, apparently.
But so he pulls out a little flashlight.
And so we get a fucking POV of just a flashlight
moving around a kitchen, him trying to find, I don't know, the breaker box or something.
And we just straight up see the demon's face.
It pops in and it's like, ah, and he sees it too and falls backwards and then we get
real shaky cam.
I don't know how to describe the demon.
He kind of looks like the insidious demon.
Is it scary when you see him?
He's pretty scary. Is it scary to see him?
Was he in the trailer where it was like
that black and white face you saw
for a second? No, that's one of the
filters that Emma uses.
Oh, okay. then we get shaky cam
running um he's teddy's running outside she's like get out of the house he runs outside the
camera pans we see his girlfriend being lifted into the air above the pool and her neck gets
snapped and then she oh my god drops into the pool he keeps running. He's running to like a barn.
Nope.
And then he sits down in the barn.
He's breathing in the camera,
like looking into the zoom lens.
And he's like, what the fuck's going on?
Like, is it here?
Is it here?
And then he starts hearing the music box.
No. Oh, no. And he goes to find it. And then he starts hearing the music box. No!
And he goes to find it.
And he grabs his, he pulls out a lighter because it's dark.
He approaches the music box.
And then we just see POV him being flung backwards
and his feet like dragging in the bottom of the frame and him screaming and
then we hear like a loud thud and he stops screaming and he's silent and then the computer
falls or whatever it is phone or whatever the camera he's using falls next to him so we see
him unconscious lying on the ground and we see his lighter light the hay or whatever it is in the barn on fire and so it
all lights up emma's screaming and crying saying teddy teddy get up get up and he catches on fire
and oh no how the fuck did they film this i guess this is vfx this must be some yeah this part's vfx
no i think he really burned them they lit him on fire for real um but he wakes up completely on fire which is just the worst because he would it's a bad way
to wake up you would wake up right with the i mean you i think you would wake up unless you're like
already dead but then you would pass out again really fast from the smoke probably first and
the pain he first starts screaming really in pain and really
oh my god it's a bad screen and so emma's just watching her friend burn burn to death through
the zoom and then emma is alone again with all the empty rooms looking at all these scenes of
all these horrible things that have happened. And hears something.
She's still under her blanket.
She throws off her blanket because she hears something in her room.
She looks at the door.
Says hello.
And.
Oh God.
Takes the blanket.
Throws it.
And it lands on a person's form.
Like the conjuring trick.
She starts screaming. She turns back in her room
tries to pry open her window like she's gonna jump out of the window and and then the camera
just goes um like it's falling like the computer falls first and so the computer falls and lands
on the ground and then we just see her body fall out of the window and land on a table and like break the table.
And it's a very bad fall.
And I think she just panicked and kind of tripped and fell out of the window.
And she also dies.
Oh, my God.
This is awful.
This is going so fast.
Yeah, we've had four deaths in probably 45 minutes yeah i mean i think another
kind of scary thing too is that um i mean i know the cameras have turned off in a lot of these
situations but usually in a normal movie you would cut away at some point from what's going on and
this is scary that you would just like keep seeing whatever's happening. Yeah. Constantly. So, yeah, we sit on now all of the all of the still shots for a bit.
And then in Haley's house, we hear a noise and then we hear a window smash.
And it's Gemma coming to check on her.
So Gemma has like broken into her house.
So is Gemma the last one alive at this point?
And so Gemma sits down on the computer.
So facing camera, facing Zoom.
And she's looking and seeing that all of her friends are seemingly dead or not in.
So she didn't find Haley, I guess, is the thought?
Well, she's in Haley's house.
She's like just in there.
Oh, okay, okay.
She just got in, but she saw the computer first and wanted to check and see if her other friends were there.
She stands up and, like, looks around the kitchen.
And then I think coffee mug flies and smashes into her head and she drops onto the ground.
Then there's, like like a jump scare of her
hand smashing into the computer to knock it on the ground and it's like now laying on the ground
next to her we see her faces like blood is pouring down her face and then again all of the cabinets burst open all the shit flies out of the cabinets she runs to hayley's room
and hayley is alive and they bump elbows and laugh
they don't want to hug because of coronavirus
oh my god and it's like very funny they both just giggle in the because they're like crying and bloody and
they're like and then immediately she's like oh did you hear that did you hear that and they
look back at the same spot that the guy was hanging from earlier. It's still pitch black.
Her lights are dunzo, I guess.
And she pulls out that Polaroid again.
And they're like, shh, shh, shh.
They take one little photo.
Nothing.
Pew.
Just the sound of a Polaroid is scary.
Yeah.
And they do a lot. It's like
they take like a step closer
take another Polaroid
nothing. Get out of there.
Take one more step closer
another Polaroid
I swear to God I think they do like 10
it's so long that you're just
so tense and then
the last one
demons there pops out knocks the phone it dies
and then pops up your 40 minutes is up like to extend your zoom meeting sign up here or whatever
and that's the end. Holy shit.
And the credits are clever, too, because it starts the mouse starts scrolling through as if it was going to invite more people to the room.
And but it's scrolling through like the credits.
That's cool.
Oh, my God. Such a good idea.
That was a great idea.
Really fucking great holy
shit if i let if i could watch scary movies i would watch this one yeah i mean but i can't
and i won't me either um wow that was really spooky and i think just yet another reminder
never to do a seance ever under any circumstances.
Have I ever done a seance?
I used to play Ouija board and stuff.
Yeah, I've done the Ouija board, but never like a real.
I feel like when I was in high school, yeah, I probably would have.
I was pretty into that kind of shit.
I feel like I thought it seemed pretty into that kind of shit.
I really did like playing Ouija and I was certain that I was speaking into that kind of shit I don't know I was pretty into that kind of shit
I really did like playing Ouija and I was certain
That I was speaking to spirits
Once I was on a
This is like fall
Break trip in college
With my friends we went and stayed in a cabin
And they brought a Ouija board
And they were going to do it one night
And I got so mad
I was like you cannot do it
while i'm in this house i'm staying here too and you cannot bring a demon here i was like such a
fucking wet blanket rude friend but i was like no no you have to go somewhere else i will not let a
demon come into this house um i think they still did it i just didn't participate but i was mad
i'm scared but i suppose yeah i, that would be a real bummer.
It's a good thing you need consent from the group for, honestly, because as as seen by
this movie, Deems come for all of you, man.
It doesn't care if you agreed to it or not.
No, I mean, I think we all learn to respect, respect the other side, the spirit world.
Respect them.
It's not.
I wonder what happened to the
Selene or whatever her name was.
Ceylon.
We'll never know.
And I learned what I already knew, which is that
I don't want
to have any prankster friends.
Yeah, no prankster friends.
Oh, God, I didn't
even tell you the scariest part.
Fucking halfway through the movie
My TV turned off it just turned off
God no
Why
Isn't that horrible
