This is Emily, Henley, and Sammy, and you're listening to Too Scary, Didn't Watch.
Hi, everyone. Welcome to Too Scary, Didn't Watch, the horror movie recap podcast for
those too scared to watch for themselves. I'm Emily. I'm scared.
I'm Henley, and I'm scared. I'm Sammy i'm emily i'm scared i'm henley and
i'm scared i'm sammy and i am brave and i'm excited me too excited i'm so excited um great
great i'm so i'm so thrilled did anything scary happen to us this week in the world um i have a quick little thing, which is my office holiday party this week.
Tis the season.
Was held on a soundstage and there were maybe 500 people there.
And they also had karaoke.
And the performances were impeccable.
Honestly, I have so many videos on my phone now of people I like don't even know who they are who are up there
performing and
performing is a fun word to use with karaoke
do you feel like they were really performing?
yes
you love to see it
it's just fun I always choose ridiculous
songs that are not really about
the singing so much as just like
I like to choose really fast songs
I do Charlie Daniels band, Double Went Down
Georgia because I went down.
Oh my God, that is
such a good karaoke song.
It's so crazy. It's also no singing.
No singing. It's just like fast
talking. Those are my favorite ones to do.
Henley, what's your go-to karaoke song?
I don't have one because I hate
singing.
But I guess, wait, I feel like Tim told me I had one one time.
Oh, God, this is embarrassing.
We have to cut this out.
No diggity.
Oh, that's a good one.
That's the one.
I do feel like that's a song that some people who can sing pick as their song.
There's some singing involved.
There's some singing involved.
And if you can sing it well, like I have a friend who sung it, who picked it at karaoke and we were all like
whoa. Like it was like a fun like
okay. It's a good karaoke
song. It's a good karaoke song. Yes.
What about you, Emily? Mine is for
Galicious. Oh, I think
I knew that for some reason. Because it's
a, you also get to do some fast talking.
Not rap, fast talking.
But a little bit of singing and
I do know all the words so it's a
fun flex to be like oh I'm not even
looking at the screen I just know
all the words to Virgil O'Hara
Jesus Christ okay what about you guys
anything scary happen
I've just been drinking
alcohol every single night which is kind of scary
and yeah it's a lot I think
I'm at like six nights in a row
now and it just feels
exhausting you know and you like start really hating it but you have all these engagements
because the holiday season crazy how much you can dread having to drink alcohol it's so funny
because it's like you're it's definitely your choice whether it's your choice to do it and i'm
like i have to do it i'm like god i don't want to drink tonight, but I will. And I just like really do it.
Same. But I'm going to do a dry January.
That's scary to me. I think I'm going
to do it with you. I can't believe that you guys are doing it.
I'm going to also do it. It's because the holidays
are kind of scary. The holidays are oversaturated
with alcohol. It really is. Yeah, I've been doing nothing
but consume in excess
for so long.
Gross, gross, gross. Emily, what about you?
I guess we all
did this the other night. We rode in a limo.
We went to a limo party.
And I guess
limo Zeke.
Hashtag limo Zeke.
If you try to search the hashtag, you will get no results.
But
it was very fun. But I guess what's scary
is I told my mom about it in
advance of doing it i was all excited i was like we're gonna do this limo night um and she
immediately was like well that's really dangerous and um you know if you get in a car accident all
your bodies become projectiles and i what yeah because you're not strapped in. So like you go flying and kill each other.
And like I was so excited for the party and I did have a great time.
But truly in the back of my mind the whole time was like.
Just imagining like bodies flying at each other.
And we'll get in a wreck and we'll all fly.
We also went.
We drove so slowly the whole time.
There was like no way that was going to happen.
But I did spend a slight portion of the night being certain that it was the death of all
me and all my closest friends.
But we survived.
We survived. We fucking had a great
time. Well, your mom is doing a really good job
actually instilling the fear in
you.
I'm so scared of everything.
Like low key, I'm scared of most
things in a big way. I mean,
that's why we're doing this podcast. That's why we're doing this podcast.
Speaking of. The're doing this podcast. That's why we're doing this podcast. Speaking of...
The podcast?
The podcast.
This week, we have a return guest,
William Hughes.
Hello.
Back again.
Back again.
Third time.
Third time.
Well, first time you guys haven't heard the pod we did.
We did the last episode. did with the crawl and the
audio got ruined.
A cursed episode. One of the cursed episodes.
One of the long lost cursed
hidden episodes. Oh, we'll release it
at our 10 year reunion.
But, oh, and
the movie we're doing this week,
Jennifer's Body.
I actually watched it this week
with William.
It's a 2009 American supernatural
horror black comedy film.
That is a lot of description.
That is a lot of magic, too.
It's written by Diablo Cody
and directed by Karen Kusama.
Love her. She also did The Invitation
and Destroyer.
She did Aeon Flux, which was
Oh, I did not see that one.
Which was a big...
I don't think that...
I saw it.
It was good.
Yeah?
It has like a 12% on Rotten Tomatoes.
It is Charlize.
There are some cool sequences.
In a wig, right?
With like black hair or something?
She looks good with every color.
Oh, she definitely does.
Totally.
It's starring Amanda Seyfried, Megan Fox, Adam Brody, Johnny Simmons.
Oh, this is a very 2009 cast.
Very 2009. Also, guys, J.K. Simmons
is in this movie as well.
Like a really not necessary.
It's very random.
Very, very random.
The problem is love J.K. Simmons.
Wasn't Amy Sedaris?
Did we ever determine if that was?
I think that was Amanda Seyfried's mom was Amy Sedaris.
Another random, like,
not necessary good casting. Interesting, interesting, interesting interesting interesting yeah i have to confirm that yes it is amy sedaris wow um well welcome back william thank you happy to be here yeah did anything
scary happen to you this week um so my apartment um recently had a lot of mosquitoes in it Oh wow I hate mosquitoes
So weird
In my apartment
So this is like last week
I guess
It was this week guys
So I got like
Bit by a mosquito
Like sitting on the couch
And then I killed it
And then basically
I kept seeing more and more
And I thought I was going crazy
Because it's like
I just killed three mosquitoes
Like there can't be more in the apartment
Ew man I hate them
So you think it's because you have a pool right out there maybe well it was also when it was raining a lot
so it's kind of the wet season but it was just so weird because they were smaller than normal
mosquitoes they were like all over my ankles my roommate now yes that's a new breed yes yes that's
what the scary thing is so i was like this is fucked up so i looked so i googled it and i was
like mosquito like la times and there's this new invasive mosquito from South America that last year was a problem
in San Diego.
And this year it's finally in LA.
And they're smaller.
They feed during the daytime.
And they specifically go after your ankles and feet.
And they have these like little sort of like, if you look at them, like white stripes on
their legs.
But they're so that it's just as scary as a terrifying invasive species that literally
invaded my apartment.
And I kind of thought I was like being gaslit because I killed one and there's another one.
And it's like, yeah, I just killed that.
Being gaslit by mosquitoes.
By invasive mosquitoes.
Hi, everybody.
It is cocktail hour.
And this week's cocktail is a Geneva's body.
Geneva is a distilled malted spirit popular in the Netherlands and Belgium.
And to make a Geneva's Body, you will use one and a half ounces of Geneva,
one ounce of fresh squeezed lemon juice, a half an ounce of simple syrup,
two dashes of Luxardo Maraschino liqueur.
You will shake those four ingredients with ice and strain into an ice-filled glass
and top with soda water
and garnish with a lemon
zest twist. Enjoy.
Okay, well, do we have any trivia about this movie?
I have some. Okay.
One is that Megan Fox
and Amanda Seyfried have both said
that this is their favorite movie that they've ever
done of their respective filmographies.
Really?
And when was that quote?
I don't know.
It doesn't say.
I'm sure it could have changed by now.
Megan, sure.
But Amanda, I hope she's done some better films.
And then one was in a interview with the New York Times while trying to illustrate how
completely the studio's all-male marketing department misunderstood the point of the movie.
Director Karen Kusama recalled that one of their marketing ideas was for Megan Fox to do live chats with amateur porn sites.
Oh, my God.
My God.
Kusama said that she begged them not to even mention the idea to Fox because she will become so dispirited it was crushing.
Oh, my.
I was about to say this movie is written
by a woman, directed by a woman, starring
women.
To have an all-male marketing team is such
a huge and like
so Hollywood fucking misstep.
It's insane.
And to be like, they don't even get it.
You know how two out of ten men
understand the movie? I'm understand sorry to bring that back
it felt
kind of ahead of its time in a lot of ways yes
that's what I've kind of I've never seen this movie
I'm really excited to hear about it I've always wanted
to see it I'm definitely gonna watch it after this
I already know and yeah
that's kind of what I heard is that it's like this
feminist horror movie that no one really got
at the time yeah I have to say I feel like this movie is kind of like a good kind of what I heard is that it's like this feminist horror movie that no one really got at the time. Yeah, I have to say, I feel like this movie is kind of like a good kind of study and expectations because you were expecting it to be great.
Well, yes, because, you know, it comes out in 2009.
It's maligned.
It's supposedly terrible.
It's revisited 10 years later.
People actually realize that it didn't deserve that kind of feedback.
But they're coming in with super low expectations. Then their expectations are exceeded. So you think it did deserve to be? No, I didn't think it deserved to be maligned in
the way that it was. But I, however, had read all the like reviews and commentary that had come out
in the past couple of years that was talking about how it's like actually a feminist film and
had come out in the past couple of years that was talking about how it's like actually a feminist
film and all this stuff and then
watching it from that perspective
I was like oh I don't
know
I don't know if I like
fully am on board
so maybe it's somewhere in the middle
yeah I think so
I definitely think so
well Blake Lively was
originally offered and then had conflicts with Gossip Girl.
I also would have been good, I think.
Yeah, she's also...
Also, it might have changed the narrative about this movie a little bit because Blake
Lively is slightly less of like a typical like sexualized person in Hollywood.
Yeah, people like never took Megan Fox seriously.
Yeah, which is unfair.
I think Megan Fox is like
a smart, interesting person.
She's just like so hot in a
specific way. Yeah.
In a very male gaze-y type of way. In like a
Playboy, like Victoria's Secret.
She looks like an epitome of a
sex doll, basically. Yeah, she's like a
animated
sex doll. Whereas Blake Lively
looks a little more like a real person
and less like, you know. Yeah, Blake Lively's
so normal looking.
Comparatively. Girl looks more average.
Oh my god, I've like seen a million of
them.
One more trivia that Emily
will like. Oh, is it Actors Rights?
Actors Rights!
Actors Rights!
It's that Hershey's
syrup was used for the black vomit scene oh yeah and not actual vomit you know
not actual vomit you love I love that that's the bar we've set to be good news what no real vomit
hell yeah um oh and Emma Stone was considered for the role of Needy which is Amanda Seyfried's
character that would have been good too.
Those are similar big-eyed women.
I think I would have preferred. I didn't really like
Amanda Seyfried in this role.
Well, we can get into it.
Oh, I'm excited. I really am excited.
I remember when this movie came out and a lot of my
friends were super, super into it. I had a friend in college
who, I mean, it was after this movie came out,
but it was like one of his all-time faves and
fucking loved Megan Fox and loved Jennifer's body
and I was always too scared to see
it it's really not too scary
it's not scary that's really not
it's like there
are graphic horror horrific moments
but it's not actually scary
moments really yeah because it
tries to sort of turn like the horror tropes
a little bit on its head in like a fun teen
kind of way.
It's pretty campy.
Yeah.
It's definitely campy.
Yeah.
We should be watching the trailer.
Let's watch the trailer.
This is exciting.
Hey, Jennifer.
You look really pretty.
Why don't you just come by my place?
All this random.
This isn't really your house, is it?
We can play mommy and daddy.
No way.
We always share your bed when we have slumber parties.
Jennifer's evil.
I know.
No, I mean she's actually evil. Not high school evil.
You're killing people.
No, I'm killing boys.
I'm really scared. I, I'm killing boys. I'm very scared.
I thought you only murdered boys.
I go both ways.
Holy shit, you guys.
This movie is... Let's launch right in.
Let's launch right in.
So I think the first...
We see Jennifer lying in bed, looking all hot.
There's a whole bunch of Fall Out Boy posters above her bed looking all hot there's a whole bunch of fallout
boy posters above her bed and then there's like a voiceover and i don't know who says it but
someone's like hell is a teenage girl i think amanda seyfried says yeah yeah um so that's where
that classic line comes from classic is a teenage girl and then we shoot to a mental asylum where Amanda Seyfried is being
held. She's making
some really creepy little
crafts. You just see the back
of her and there's a voice
over and
she's basically
I don't know exactly what she's saying.
I used to be a nerdy girl
but now I'm not. And then she like kicked
an orderly like in the head.
And it's like, it's really.
So this is like a starting at the end situation.
It's a very kind of flash forward.
And it's like.
Which we talked about and we wish that it hadn't done that because.
I hate when any movie does that.
It's so obvious.
Seems like such a lazy way to open a movie.
Yeah.
I wonder where, how did she get here?
It's like a nerd to this person.
And it's like, oh, obviously her friend got possessed by a devil she probably killed her friend everybody thought she was crazy and put her
mental institution it's like okay i got it obviously her friend was possessed by a demon
no it is it is like it's almost it is truly though makes the movie be like almost immediately
obvious like right beginning which is a pretty obvious movie yeah i mean from if you've just
seen the trailer yeah
and yeah so she gets so basically amanda seyfried now is struggling with some like serious anger
management issues and also seems to have like kind of supernatural powers by the fact that
she kicked the orderly so hard she literally shot her across the room it was really aggro
and then she's like want some more jello, sweetie? She's like, fuck you.
So unnecessary.
Those aren't the exact lines, but they might as well have been.
I would love for them to be.
Then they throw her in isolation.
And then she basically is like, this is my story.
And then it's like two months earlier.
It's only been two months. Oh, wow. A lot can happen in two months, I guess. A then it's like two months earlier. It's only been two months.
Oh, wow.
A lot can happen in two months, I guess.
A lot can happen in two months.
One summer can change everything.
It takes place during the school year.
The location is Devil's Kettle, Minnesota.
So the Devil's Kettle is this sort of like a reverse waterfall, basically, in the woods
where it's like a waterfall goes into the earth.
And they're like,'s kettle it goes straight
down nobody knows how deep it is
they show like scientists throwing like little like
scientific balls into it like they can never find out
where it goes and it kind of
like swirls around like a whirlpool going down to the earth
and it was kind of cool
I kind of wish it had been
kind of used
I mean it was used a little bit it was used a little bit
so that's why it's called devil's kettle It had been kind of used. I mean, it was used a little bit. It was used a little bit.
So that's why it's called Devil's Kettle.
Okay.
And then I guess they're at school.
Then we just kind of see what they are.
It's like, so, you know, we have Jennifer.
She's the cool girl.
She's the hot girl.
Everyone loves her.
Then we have her best friend whose name is Needy.
Needy.
This was really confusing to us.
Yeah.
Her name was literally, everyone called her Needy.
It's because her name's Anita and it's Needy for short.
But it's like, oh, she's a needy friend.
And it's kind of the classic where she's like, you know, obsessed with Jennifer.
Jennifer kind of is like, you know, that kind of like relationship.
But they've been best friends since they were little children.
There's like unnecessary childhood flashbacks too.
Yeah.
Just to try to establish more of their friendship. I wish that this movie had explored their friendship
in a more interesting way than it did. I think
that's probably my number one complaint about
the movie. Let's do our complaints later because
I'm sorry.
Anywho, so basically
Jennifer convinces
Amanda to go to this
concert that night, even
though technically she has plans with her boyfriend
Chip yeah who's like a really
young looking
he looks like I mean like the long lost
Zack and Cody triplet like he looks like he's
got that hair he has like Stranger Things
haircut and Nnedi is like I mean she's
like a nerd even though it's Amanda Seyfried and her face
looks like a fucking renaissance painting but they're
like look she has glasses
I love it when they do that
And they're not even hip glasses
Fucking dork
Yeah she's so beautiful it's like that's another thing
That's hard to get your head wrapped around
Oh she does have a pet ferret though
Which is really nerdy
That is way nerdy
If you're into rodents fucking nerd
I like rodents
So do I
But like a rat not a ferret Ferrets are nasty nerd. I like rodents. I like rats. So do I.
But like a rat,
not a ferret.
Ferrets are nasty.
Well, you're not allowed to have ferrets in California.
I always wanted one.
Ferrets are nasty as hell.
You're not allowed
to have a New York either.
They do smell bad.
They smell really bad.
And they steal all your shit.
They're like snakes with fur.
Anyway, let's keep going.
William had rats in college.
We can talk about that later.
Rats are cool.
So then they go to this,
they go to this concert.
It's at a really
Hodunk small little like
Small town venue and they're
Running into all these people that they know
Megan Fox I guess dated
Chris Pratt who's in this
For approximately one line
Looking really hot
This was like before he was big
He's got like a he's kind of like redneck
He's got a camo hat.
And I guess he's like a cadet.
He's a police officer.
Yeah.
And she goes up and kind of grabs his dick.
And she's like, hey, like.
How old are they supposed to be?
She's in high school.
They're probably seniors in high school, I'm guessing.
I don't know.
I mean, they all look like they're 25.
Besides the boyfriend, he looks like he's 12 years old.
So it was.
Yeah.
He looked weirdly young compared to them.
the boyfriend who looks like he's 12 years old so it was yeah he looked weirdly young compared to them um and so they're there to see a band called low shoulder which is starring adam brody who's
wearing a shit ton of eyeliner yeah it's like adam brody is like pete wentz kind of yeah i like
pictured it as adrian brody at first and that's very funny and i have to share that's really fun
i have a question low shoulder is that like is that like, is that an expression?
Is that a saying?
Like,
where does that name come from?
At the end of the movie,
they show a traffic sign
on the side of the road
that says Low Shoulder.
It's like where you can veer off.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
It's like,
watch out for this Low Shoulder.
I guess so.
So,
I don't know.
What a cool band name.
That is cool.
So, Nikolai is the name of Adam Brody's character. I don't know. What a cool band name. That is cool. So
Nikolai is the name of Adam
Brody's character.
And Jennifer is clearly
super into them.
That's why they're there to begin with.
She goes up to Adam
Brody and she's like, you guys play
your instruments super good.
Megan Fox
is funny in this.
I know.
And from the truth,
the way they make her talk,
it's like, I'm hot.
It's like a weird
disaffected valley girl.
It's funny.
I live in Minnesota.
So then Nikolai
and his bandmates
are talking about those,
like, look at those
two hot girls.
And they're like,
do you think they're,
is she a virgin
or is she a slut?
And then Needy's like,
there's only one option.
Needy's like,
that's my best friend
and she's a virgin. and then needy goes up to grab someone's dick yeah well
so jennifer this i wrote i had to write down this line because it was so funny um but also like
fucking crazy and a good example of the kinds of lines that are in this movie um so then needy goes
up to jennifer and is like those guys are bad news
they were just talking about whether or not you're a virgin
and then Jennifer goes
I'm not even a backdoor virgin
I couldn't go to class the next day I had to stay
at home and sit on a bag of frozen peas
oh my god
I'm glad you wrote that down
wow like it was just like insane
those are the types of things that come out of everyone's mouth
though. That's funny.
So then Adam Brody and
the band are playing
their song
and Adam Brody's vamping at the camera
in such an insane way. It's worth
watching the movie just to watch him vamping
at the camera like what does that mean? Like staring
like posing so intensely
and like really overdoing it with singing and like his eyeliner is so intense he looks like a vampire
oh he looks like a vampire um yeah you know he's bad news okay um but then one interesting thing
that happens in this moment is that uh needy and jennifer like look at each other kind of like they love each other and then
they hold hands and it's almost like it kind of starts setting the stage for the fact that maybe
amanda seyfried has like deeper feelings deeper feelings yeah it's like jennifer's like gazing at
uh nicolai and then like needy's gazing at jennifer and you're kind of like oh she's looking
her the same way jennifer's looking at but needy way Jennifer's looking at Nikolai. But Needy does have a boyfriend. Yes. Needy does have a boyfriend.
Yes.
So then just randomly, I think, I don't know why, but a fire starts.
I think it was like a wire, like a teeny tiny little fire started on like a speaker behind
stage and then just spread so fast and so far.
It was like first there was a little fire and then
everybody was on fire.
Literally everyone gets lit on fire.
Everybody gets lit on fire.
And not even in a supernatural way.
It's as if this is how... I guess it's a bar.
There's a lot of fun little things.
That's really scary. But it's like the ceiling was on fire.
It was really kind of a sharp escalation.
We were not expecting that.
Do you think this is a demon at work?
Well, I thought so, but then- But no.
I don't think so.
Oh, okay.
I think this is just a random occurrence.
And this is kind of the first real horrific moment of the film.
I think the-
Yeah.
Where people are literally getting trampled and like-
Yeah.
One was trampled to death.
Like lots of people on fire.
Oh, yeah.
That's so scary.
And then Nikolai was just on stage kind of being like, oh, awesome.
Like watching everything.
Like really kind of like excited
and turned on. Adam Brody's evil.
Spoiler alert.
And it was literally like everybody
was on fire immediately, like really intense
and scary and dark. And then
but Needy and Jennifer were fine and they're like
quick. And they had a weird shot of
a toilet when they went to the bar. Do you remember that like
toilet close up of this like really
dirty, sticky sticker cover? It's because they stand on the toilet to get out of the bar. It's that like toilet close up of this like really dirty sticky sticker cover it's because they
stand on the toilet to get out of the bar
oh thank god we saw that toilet before
we understood
otherwise we would have been really
thrown where did the toilet come from
they go outside through the window
and it's like they're like wow that was so
crazy people are still running out screaming on
fire people are definitely dying
it's so awful it's really but Jennifer's kind of in a trance and the whole band is now outside as well
and they're in their really creepy van and they basically adam brody comes over to jennifer and
is like basically get in our van he's like yeah he's like you're in chalk here have a drink let's
go back to my place and then she says says, I want to go to your really
cool van. I wrote that down too
because that was another one of her really brilliant
lines.
And so she gets
pushed into this van and it's obviously something
really bad's going to happen to her. Right. Yeah.
That was a nice tense sequence. She gets in and then like,
you know, Needy's like, Jennifer, don't go.
Like those guys are sketchy. And she's like, like, you're being
lame. Like, I'm not going to let this fire and she's like like you're being lame Like I'm not gonna let this fire
And this death of like dozens of people ruin
My night out
That is basically what she said
Determined and then it was and it's kind of like
They have this long look and like the van door closes
And it is really sad and it's kind of for a second
I was like oh like you know maybe this like demonic
Possession is gonna be sort of like a metaphor for like
Rape or something and go like an interesting dark
Way I think it was supposed
to be. Yeah, it was. And that was
that was a good moment. That was like
I liked that. Yeah. It was sad
and dark. It was definitely upsetting.
So then Amanda, I keep calling her Amanda.
Her name's Needy or Amanda in this. I'm
so sorry. I really go back and forth.
She goes home
to her house. No one's
there. She's there alone and she calls Chip to tell him one's there she's there alone
And she calls Chip to tell him what
Happened because she's freaking out
This is a funny line too he goes
He's like well did you get the make and model of the van
And she goes I don't know an 89 rape
Van
Really genius
I decay Chip an 89
Rapist and then
There's a knock on her door and she says, Jesus fries, there's someone
here. Jesus fries?
How inconsiderate of all
the people that just burnt to death.
I know.
Yeah, like they never call the, like they don't
call the police. Yeah, that's what I was, can you just like
leap? They just leap. They don't try to help any
of the victims. Shouldn't the police come and
like make a statement? No, it's weird. Certainly the fire
department. Fire department. Weirdly not. We see them, they come later, but like the girls they don't. police come and make a statement? No. Certainly the fire department. Fire department. Weirdly
not. We see them. They come later, but the girls
they don't give a shit.
Maybe just go straight home. Yeah, maybe go straight
home. So there's
a very tense sequence where she goes
down and opens her door and
no one's on the porch. And then
you know, we're like, it's very obvious
that there's going to be a jump scare. Yeah.
There was a knock on the door she goes down
there's also this weird sort of thing earlier in the film
where when she's home she's home with her boyfriend
chip needy and she's like oh jennifer's
here and she kind of could tell jennifer arrived
like 10 seconds before she rang the doorbell
basically she feels her and she's like that's creepy
how you do that but this time she wasn't able to
sense the chance that jennifer is
there but yeah that's good because it
establishes that there's some kind of like also strange connection between the two of them i forgot about that um i'm glad
you brought that up so then all of a sudden there's a jump cut and jennifer is standing
in the kitchen covered in blood oh my god looking wrecked really scary and like great makeup like this was like this was the the peak of the movie
for me this whole sequence the sequence was very good it's very scary amanda's like jennifer like
are you okay what happened and then jennifer just slowly smiles at her and blood drips out of her
mouth and it's so creepy like really really really slow creepy smile. And like Megan Fox did
she did a great job. It was like, you know,
really dead eyes, like slow creep
like it was really. It was really scary.
So then Jennifer runs over
to the refrigerator,
rips it open, takes out this
rotisserie chicken,
rips it open, gets on the ground
and starts trying to eat it like
she's like a really scary animal
and Amanda goes my mom got that at
Boston Market
we're not supposed to eat that
and the Boston Market reference is perfect for 2009
oh Boston Market
but Jennifer can't eat it
so she's
like starts throwing it up
and she starts vomiting this kind of like
black tar
shoots out and then it's sort of
like projectile vomit
it kind of like comes to life to like
these weird little like like the black
tar kind of like these little like needles and
bubbles and sort of moves around in the semi
sentient kind of supernatural way
exactly
and then she
runs at Needy
and she pushes her up against the wall and
she kind of like feels her up.
She grabs her boob and
like sniffs her neck. Yeah, and then it's like,
are you scared? And then
Needy's like, really scared?
And is like, yes. And then
she throws her on the ground and runs
out of the house.

so much that I would tell my mom that I wanted to work at Staples when I grew up because I just
loved getting all the things that I needed that I would use every day in class. I still to this day have nightmares about showing
up in class without notebooks or number two pencils. Really scary stuff. But luckily I wake
up and I realize I don't actually need notebooks or number two pencils anymore. but this fall there is something that I will be using every day and
would be terrified to be caught without, and that's Raycon's best-selling everyday earbuds.
I've been trying to go on walks every day, and so I need earbuds that I can rely on to listen to
all my favorite podcasts, and I know you guys listen to podcasts as well, so you know what I'm
talking about. I got my Raycons in carbon black because that's my vibe, but they come in other
cool colors as well, like forest green and brush violet, but my favorite thing about them is the battery life. They stay charged for 32 hours and they have a new quick charge function.
So 10 minutes of charging gets you 90 minutes of battery life.

the moment that something changed right like she wasn't like this before no she was like I mean kind of like a you know
she wasn't she was like a sexual
but not like no no
like demon qualities hell
no no demon qualities so the next
day we go to school and it's like we do see Jennifer
and she's I mean she's the same but she's kind
of like a worse version of herself like she's worse version
she's like meaner
she's such a bitch it's actually I mean it's kind of
funny like she's like hey what's up needy like stupid slut and she's like I mean she's such a bitch it's actually I mean it's kind of funny like she's like hey what's up needy like stupid slut and she's like what the hell Jennifer like what's
going on she's like and um she's like are you like that was crazy last night she's like I spent the
whole night like um like scrubbing the black tar off the kitchen floor like look at my nails and
they're all like kind of black and she's like ah you really need a mani pedi and then they like
cut to like poor like needy like literally sobbing hysterically in her kitchen like scrubbing it was kind of funny because like that was really sad it was really
sad um and their teacher they're in science class when this is happening and their teacher is jk
simmons and he has a hook for a hand which is never brought up or referenced or necessary in
the story but very strange his hand is a hook so just keep that
in mind right
not even like like you know like prosthetic grabber
like a full on like like a pirate
like a pirate it's a straight up pirate
hook okay all right um and
that's when also we find out um
in the class because you know he's talking about
how this tragedy happened he says we lost
nine students several parents
and um i think it was 19.
Oh, did he say 19? I wrote 19.
It was like a really horrific.
It sounds horrific and they just like
acted like so cavalier.
Like it was nothing.
I mean, Jennifer is super cavalier. It's funny.
She's like, oh my God, they all died.
She goes, anybody we know? And he's like,
we know all of that.
Oh my God. She's like we know all of that oh my god she's like who cares she's like
whatever and then she goes you're overreacting and then she goes what's wrong with you besides
the obvious surface flaws oh my god she's such a bitch so she's really mean she's really really
mean to needy okay um but needy that is what's interesting though is because she's obviously
more mean than usual but clearly she's always kind of like this because Needy is just taking it and not really reacting.
And that is interesting because that is a classic friendship archetype.
One girl is kind of more dominant, controlling, and bitchy and takes advantage of it.
And so it is interesting seeing that to this crazy supernatural degree.
And I know we're not supposed to say what we wish had been, but I wish they'd explored
that more and a smarter, more complex.
That's where I really thought they were going to go with it.
And also, you know, the kind of like queer subtext, lesbian, the kind of stuff as well.
Yeah.
So they didn't really go that deep.
They probably wanted to.
And I bet that they just made them like.
Like scale it back.
Scale it back.
I'm guessing.
Like if it was made today, they definitely would have been.
More complex than it is.
For sure.
Um, then.
We see the guy crying in class. His friend died. oh and he no he's crying on the football field oh he was crying class and
then we then we see him on the football field crying and jennifer there are a few shots in
this movie that are interesting they have some like very huge wide angle far away shots that
then like zoom in close to the person and that that doesn't happen that often. And there's not nothing really else aesthetically pleasing about the movie.
So it stood out to you?
So it stood out to me.
So Jennifer starts flirting with this footballer who's standing on the field crying, mourning
the loss of his friend.
His friend Greg.
And she's like, oh, like I was the last person to talk to Greg before he died. died and before he died he said that he thinks we'd be a really cute couple oh my god and he's
like really he said that and she's like yeah and then she starts slowly unzipping her shirt i think
well she's like we should go we should go have sex that's what greg would have wanted like let's go
into the woods and so they she brings him into the woods and then all the animals in the woods come and surround
them in a circle and start watching them and the footballer is like uh what's going on calling him
a footballer he's this huge man he's like like a linebacker. Huge man.
And so you can kind of guess what happens next. But they start making out.
There are animals everywhere.
And then she takes her clothes off.
And then she unhinges her jaw and goes at him.
It's a very scary moment of her turning into a demon.
I found that whole sort of like the visuals and the effects really
cheesy and kind of bad. It was like, you know,
big jaw teeth and then kind of like weird quick cuts
and I think her face is sort of black and red. And I don't know if it's
just because it's 2009, but it was sort of like
it was bad. Yeah, it was bad.
So we know what's happening
there. And then
the next
scene is Amanda Seyfried's
making a fried bologna sandwich while feeding
her ferret what a nerd um and then jk simmons goes into the woods because he hears
someone screaming and he finds the footballer on the ground with his stomach ripped open and all
the woods animals from the woods eating out of his stomach.
It's pretty gross.
Then there's a really cool shot of
Jennifer swimming naked in the lake. This
really wide, beautiful shot. You know, like Blue Lake.
She's very pale and nude. And that was a cool shot.
And then
I don't really know. Oh, I guess she was swimming because she was
washing all the blood off of her.
Yeah. And then after that, it's sort of
like the movie kind of goes into a bit of a different like tone or drive and we see her um we see
jennifer in front of the mirror we saw in the trailer she takes a lighter and like lights her
tongue on fire and then it like heals and it's kind of like oh like we get it now like she's
yeah she's she's a demon she's a demon now she's a demon she calls herself a god she says i'm a god. She says, I'm a god. And I guess there's
then everyone in the town is
really grieving because so many
horrible things keep happening.
There's a memorial service
for everyone and
that band, The Low Shoulder
or whatever with Adam Brody,
their song Through the Trees
has now become the town's unofficial
anthem of unity and healing.
Oh, boy.
And Low Shoulder has become a very popular, successful band.
Are we seeing Low Shoulder?
No, they're off screen.
It's just referenced all the time.
Are they alive still?
Yeah.
They're alive and they're doing really well.
Okay.
They're very successful.
I kind of assumed that when I first saw Jennifer, I thought that like-
She killed them all.
Yeah, the bloodhurt was theirs.
Yeah.
Which I assumed, too. But
no, it seems like, you know, because of the
small town with all these, you know,
like, brutal murders, plus the bar
fire kind of became, like, a national story, and
thus Low Shoulder sort of got famous, too, I guess.
Yeah, they just got famous off
the back of this tragedy. And I guess, yeah, Jennifer's
acting all weird and evil, and
Needy keeps getting gaslit by both
her boyfriend and Jennifer.
It's like you're overreacting.
Yeah, she's fine. You need to go talk to a
counselor. Oh, there's a lot of that.
Oh, I love that.
Then we cut to one month later.
Oh my God, so we're already only a month out from the
asylum.
Cut to one month later.
Jennifer is not looking good.
She's back in class.
She's wearing like sweatpants, no makeup.
Pale.
Pale, tired, really in a bitchy mood.
She hasn't, basically she hasn't, she hasn't fed.
Right.
And I was wondering too, I was like, is this supposed to be like a metaphor for like menstruation,
PMS?
Like I, cause she said stuff where she's like, I feel bloated.
Like I don't feel good or something.
They do make all of her symptoms very
stereotypical PMS symptoms yeah so it's just a little there are a lot of things like that where
it's like okay I don't know what that's and this is because she has to eat humans now
and she hasn't I don't think she hasn't fed in the past month so what happens is that um
there's this goth kid I don't know if you would call him goth. He's kind of
like a cool punk kid who also wears a lot of eyeliner. It's kind of been implied earlier in
the movie, his name is Colin, that he might kind of like or Needy might kind of have a little bit
of a crush on him. And so then Needy and Jennifer Jennifer walking down the hallway and Colin comes up and asks Jennifer out.
And Jennifer's really, really mean to him.
And Needy is like after he walks away, she's like, Jennifer, why?
Why did you do that?
Like, you're so mean.
And Jennifer is like, I'm used to guys asking me out like whatever.
And then and then Needy's like, I like Colin.
I think he's cool.
And Jennifer then kind of like hears her say that.
And it really pisses her off for some reason.
And so then runs back up to Colin and is like, meet me at my house later tonight.
Like, I want to I want to see you.
my house later tonight like i want to i want to see you so later that night there's uh chip and needy are in needy's bedroom and they are about to have sex for the first time um and it's really
cute and awkward and sweet and nice and so that scene is intercut with this other scene of Jennifer and Colin.
So Colin shows up at Jennifer's quote unquote house.
Yeah, she texted him her address and it was like a house in her construction with like plastic sheeting and like very.
Clearly not her house.
Right.
So he like goes inside this abandoned house and wanders upstairs and gets to the top to the attic. And there are all these candles lit everywhere.
Yeah.
Like plastic sheeting.
It's kind of like a candle.
Dexter's kill room.
Exactly.
Dexter's kill room is ambiance.
Yeah, basically.
A romantic kill room.
Romantic kill room.
And Colin is like, this isn't your house, is it?
And she goes, no, baby, this is our house.
We can play mommy and daddy.
Oh, my God.
Yeah.
And she says all this stuff like with a really sort of flat tone, too.
And she also does this funny kind of gaslighting thing where she's like, I've been giving you signals all year.
Like, didn't you know I've always wanted you?
And she does that, which is
kind of a scary. He also
I feel like he knows almost from the
second he walks in that house. He was like,
he's in trouble. But the
lengths you will go to
the lengths you will go to to have
sex with a hot girl with a hot girl.
Yeah. So she's
clearly evil. Like, I mean, it's like
pretty obvious that she's evil. And then
she says another crazy thing. She says
you give me such a weddy.
Oh yeah.
I don't like that. I love
that.
Oh my God. It's so gross.
I hate that. I hate that. That is really nasty.
So much. I hate it.
I hate it so much. I hate that.
So keep in mind
this is intercut with Amanda and her
boyfriend having really sweet nice sex
and then Jennifer
Colin and Jennifer
are looking at each other and Jennifer's eyes
like flick into
demon eyes
and then Colin is like no
way still doesn't run away
also like
no way what does he get what also like still isn't scary enough
does he get what that means like
yeah that's a good point
like yes way bitch
um and then she breaks his arm
oh and she says i
need you frightened oh yeah she's
like i need you i need you hopeless i need you
scared yeah and starts
like pennywise yeah and starts like Pennywise. Yeah.
And starts like Pennywise.
Yeah.
Pennywise.
Starts really like torturing him, basically.
And then Amanda and her boyfriend are having sex and she starts to like see it happen.
She like, yeah, like has visions.
She's starting to have visions of Jennifer.
Oh, fuck.
Killing that guy.
Yeah.
And there was a really cool shot where they had it kind of behind the plastic
sheeting is where we kind of saw.
And the way she killed him is that Jennifer
used her teeth to literally just rip
up his stomach skin and would kind of
flip it back with her hair flipping and the
blood kind of flying up.
It was a cool, gory visual.
Yeah, you just see their
silhouettes. It's very intense.
And then she um and then
she's like crouches over him and cups her hand into his like open stomach hole and like gets
like a little like cup handful of blood and guts and like like slurps it out like that was kind of
funny too so amanda is seeing all this happen and her boyfriend all of a sudden realizes that she's
freaking out and she's and he's And he's like, what's wrong?
And then he goes, am I too big?
Oh, my God.
No, honey, that's not it.
No, no.
Good guess, but no.
So Amanda freaks out, runs out of the bed, runs out of her bedroom, like throws clothes on, runs downstairs, gets in her car.
Runs out of her bedroom, like throws clothes on, runs downstairs, gets in her car because I guess she's going to go try to find Jennifer and figure out what's going on.
She turns the car on.
She first thing she hears is that low shoulder song, which has become the anthem.
And she's like, fuck you.
And that was that made me laugh and then so she's in the car and then all of a sudden she sees jennifer crawl out of the woods and like run right in front of her car and so amanda swerves
um to miss her and then jennifer like lands on top of her car and it's scary and then she drives away and like gets her off the car basically um and then she goes home
right so yeah then she just drives home with like a shattered windshield yeah and then jennifer
shows up and this is the kind of like this is like their big sort of scene between the two of them
she's like what the hell jennifer like you've been really weird ever since that fire yeah so jennifer
is all of a sudden shows up in her room and is completely fine and normal like when she saw her on the in the middle of the road she's covered in blood and
looks like a demon and is so scary and then you know 10 minutes later is completely back to normal
in her bed like just in her like underwear basically really low underwear too another
low-cut underwear experience.
And she's like,
come on, we used to always have sleepovers together.
Like the stopping's so like annoying.
She's like, we always sleep in the same bed
when we have sleepovers.
And then she kisses
her and they start making
out. Oh yeah.
That happens before the fight then?
Well, I think
she tries to confront her and then
immediately is seduced by Jennifer.
And then there's this like five
minute long silent
makeout scene. Oh, that was the most interesting
part is it was silent. They
removed every sound. Haley and I both
were like, is it like the volume wrong?
We kept trying to turn the volume up.
It was silent for a good 60-90 seconds.
Wow, 60-90.
60-90 seconds.
And they're just like really making out?
It's very gratuitous kissing.
It's literally just a shot of their lips.
Like a close-up of their lips.
Close-up of their lips making out.
I don't know how I feel about this because on one hand,
I'm like, wow, this is a great example Of like queer horror but it's
Not really developed
Enough to make it feel that it's anything
More than just like two hot girls making
Out right I think yeah I think it's
Supposed to kind of confirm our
Suspicion that needy
Has into jazz has like
Sexual feelings for Jennifer yeah and
Then and then this is what needy is like what the hell are you doing
Like what the hell is going on even so weird since like the van like what happened
i'm dying to know jennifer's like by the way those guys were like pure evil like literally like
agents of satan evil direct line what she said so then we see her in the van um adam brody's
driving he's clearly the ringleader.
She looks around the van and she sees these books like one of them is titled Witches.
Another one is titled The Occult World.
And that's when she starts putting together that maybe these guys aren't great.
And she says, are you guys rapists?
And then Adam Brody responds and he says, God, I hate girls.
So clearly awful, awful awful awful humans
and then one of the guys is like are you sure she's even a virgin and she's like yeah i'm a
virgin like i'm really bad at sex like you should find somebody else who's more experienced to like
rape kind of basically yeah oh it was awful and so then they drag her into the woods they tie her up right next to the the devil's
kettle right next to the waterfall um and they're there to do the quote-unquote ritual um that's
when the other guys start being like i don't know if this is a good idea like they start having
second thoughts um start having doubts and adam brody is like come on guys do you want to be rich and awesome like that guy from Maroon
5 or lame forever
and all the guys look at each other and they're
like Maroon 5
you're right you make a compelling
argument yeah and Jennifer's like what are you doing
and he's like do you have any idea how hard it is to make it as
an indie band these days
and so basically surmise that he's like they're
doing a virgin sacrifice
to stay in
to become rich and famous.
And it is like, I mean,
I think it's a really clever, interesting thing where it's like
what if it's a virgin sacrifice and
she's not a virgin. Right.
Yes. Which is where. But also they do
get rich and famous. No, they do.
They, I guess it
still works. It's just that she doesn't actually
die and said a demon inhabits her body
So they okay
We'll keep going
Then they do this weird thing where he's like
Gonna stab her and he's like wait a minute
We shouldn't do this and then they all sing this song
Together I've never heard this song before
Jenny I got your number or
That song that's with the phone number
And Jenny what's it called
675309 It was a different song I kind of vaguely feel like I know Yeah, that song that's with the phone number and Jenny. What's it called? 8-6-7-5-3-0-9?
No, it was a different song.
Oh, I kind of vaguely feel like I know.
I mean, all these guys knew it.
They all broke into it at the same time.
They all broke into a song and then they stab her and it's kind of creepy.
Yeah, so this was, I thought, interesting because it's like they're all having such a fun time and they're laughing
and it's like such a lark for
them and she's literally
being murdered and is
incredibly awfully traumatizing
and I think that's
I mean that's a good very
obvious metaphor for her. So they do kill her
they kill Jennifer
in that moment. Yeah and they
he reads some sort of like
Three sentence long like
Sia and I sacrifice this virgin to you
Like some quick thing
And then she dies
And then they stab her
So the blood was her own
And when she's telling this story
To Needy she says
They went all Benihana on my ass
Yeah that was funny
There's a lot of lines It's very like Diablo Cody She says, they went all Benihana on my ass. Yeah, that was funny.
There's a lot of lines.
It's very Diablo Cody.
That's fun.
And then did something happen with the devil's kettle?
They throw the knife into devil's kettle.
He throws the knife down it, right?
That's why they do it there is to get rid of the murder weapon.
Okay.
Got it.
And so then she crawls away.
I guess they think she's died.
They leave.
They think she's died. They leave. They think she's died. And then she crawls out of the forest and runs into Ahmed, the exchange student from India,
who everyone had thought had died in the fire. Oh, yeah. And she's like, does anyone know you're
alive? And he's like, no. And she's like, come with me. and so that's her first meal so i think she sorry she
she must go to needy's first has that whole interaction with needy then when she runs away
then she runs into akmed and has her first meal and that's why she's totally fine the next day
yeah because it's like rejuvenating yeah it's showing it's kind of like filling in the gaps
for us from that yeah and then she goes to needy's right after she's become a demon and she can't eat the chicken
because the chicken is a chicken.
Not a human.
The Boston market.
And then.
And then.
She can't even enjoy Boston market.
And then the next day at school.
That's the kind of end of it.
Right.
Yeah.
So she's.
That's when she tells.
She tells needy like I'm unkillable.
Like I can heal.
You know, watch this.
Check this out.
Cuts her arm and it heals
and she says it's like x-men shit and then um needy goes to the library and goes to the occult
section at her school library yeah and like looks it up and i think i wrote this down too
where it's like she figured out what happened in something called demonic transference it's
what happens when you try to sacrifice a virgin which is not a virgin so the demon stays in her
soul which is like not that's all
just completely made up like that's not I've never heard that
before that's like I mean but it
sounded like enough like sort of a cold gobbledygook like
demonic transfer and that
is a clever premise like what happens if
it's not a virgin like I thought that was smart
and she figures out the only
way to kill her is a blade to the heart
yeah so then
she goes to her boyfriend again to be like
things are bad with jennifer jennifer is evil um and she's like not like high school evil like
actually evil and then chip once again doesn't believe her right um and tells her that she needs
to go get counseling right um. And so she, I guess
she's basically trying to convince him
not to go to the school dance because there's
a school dance happening. He's like, it's going to be
like a feeding frenzy for
Jennifer at the school dance. Like, don't go.
So in order to protect
Chip, she decides
to break up with him.
No reason to go to the dance.
So he'll have no reason to go to the dance. Single and sad. Yeah, so he'll have no reason to go to the dance.
So then, the B-cut to everyone getting ready for the dance.
And there's a funny scene between Chip and his mom where his mom comes into his room
and gives him a can of pepper spray.
And he's like, oh, mom, I don't need this.
He's like, that's like a girl weapon or something.
Yeah. And she's like, did you see't need this he's like that's like a girl weapon or something like yeah
and she's like did did you see what they did to that boy's body and he's like i know they tore
him from limb to limb and like takes the pepper spray mom you're so overprotective and then he
and then he goes i can take care of myself i've been using the bow flex oh my god it is kind of
it's like all these people have been brutally murdered and cannibalized. And also, wasn't that guy like a huge footballer
as we said? Yes. Like Chip's buddy.
No. People don't seem like the town should
be on lockdown. Like there's a cannibal murder
out there after this horrible fire.
No, Chip's mom also, even though she's
trying to tell him to be safe, she's so
cavalier about it too. Everyone's
just like, whatever.
So Amanda's wearing a really
heinous pink prom dress prom dress absurdly ugly dress
they don't really she's a dork it's the ugliest dress i've ever seen and then chip is walking to
the dance alone through a dark park misty park dark misty park and he's accosted by jennifer
and she does that creepy thing where she's like she you didn't hear me? I was calling your name. And it's like,
no, she wasn't. No, she wasn't.
She's got like a white prom dress on, kind of.
And she's like, I need to talk
to you about Needy.
And then basically says,
what did she say? She's like, Needy cheated on you.
Yeah, Needy's never liked you.
Like, I've always been in love with you or some
whatever. And then starts seducing
him. Yeah, and she's like follow me she takes his hand
And she takes him to I don't know where
This place was but they went to this like abandoned
Pool basically that was like covered in like
Kind of half filled with like green swampy water
And all these vines it was like an underground pool
And then she takes him there and then
Needy gets like a spidey sense
Basically with her weird telepathic
Thing where she's like uh oh like
Something bad's happening to the Chip she's about to do
something so she like runs out of the prom and she's
running to basically where they are
and then we cut to Jennifer and Chip in the
in the pool and I don't know she's
killing him being creepy
at this point
we're kind of both over the movie
at this point in all honesty yeah well because the movie's
almost over and it's like that's the
it's like oh that's it yeah exactly
so they're in the pool
she's they're kissing each other and then
he's like I don't know if I want to do this
and she's like what why and then she
starts attacking him
and then
needy runs in and
fights her off of jumps into the
pool fights off Jennifer
while chip is like bleeding out in the
corner oh damn
he's been kind of ripped open and he's like
Betty believes her now
and then Jennifer
does this insane hovering out of
the pool she shoots out of the pool
it's almost like you know when people have like those like
water jetpack
water jetpack
and then chip is like
whoa she's flying and
he's like not even that
forget and then he's
like she's not flying
chip she's just hovering
like don't like yeah she
like tries to belittle
her supernatural power
basically and that is
kind of funny because
Jennifer's like why do
you always have to like
belittle me like mm-hmm
and then they kind of
have like um it's I mean it's funny because it's sort of like you know those like female best friends or sort of also like enemies having a fight where it's like, why do you always have to like belittle me? Like, and then they kind of have like, it's, I mean, it's funny because it's sort of like,
you know, those like female best friends or sort of also like enemies having a fight where
it's like, you've always been, you've always been jealous of me.
Like, you know, you're the insecure one.
Yeah.
She's needy says, you know, this is our big confrontation.
She's like, you were never a good friend.
And then Jennifer is like, well, now I'm eating your boyfriend.
At least I'm consistent.
And then needy goes at her and
is like, maybe you were cool two years ago
when you were socially relevant and didn't
need laxatives to stay skinny.
Oh my God. Holy shit.
It was like they were being really
mean to each other. Like a really bad friend fight.
Yeah. Really, really bad.
Yeah. I mean, because their friendship is
toxic. Like, I think
friendship is not a good friendship. friendship Yeah it was toxic before the demon
And then the demon just kind of like made it
A million times worse
You know by like killing her boyfriend
Yeah like how it goes with the demon
It's so much more complicated
And then Needy says
She's about to be attacked by Jennifer
And she says I thought you only murdered boys
And then Jennifer says I go both ways
And then Chip impales Jennifer with like
a like a pool skimmer like the
metal handle like through her stomach
but then but it's got to be a blade to the heart
yeah then Jennifer just pulls it out
and then um wait
does does Jennifer say
this I wrote this line down she says
got a tampon seem like you might be
plug in yes Jennifer did say that
when her like when she pulled the guys these lines
right I mean can you even believe them a lot
of like also what tampon
is the size of a pool skimmer
the lines were always like
the line some of the lines kind of ruined it
for me because like they were supposed to like you know so sort of like
like wink wink
yeah like wink wink clever wordplay but they were
just kind of felt like I was like that's not
doesn't quite land.
It kind of took you out of the movie, too.
And then I think Jennifer escapes.
So then Jennifer gets away, and then Chip bleeds out.
Chip dies.
They have a really sad moment where they say they love each other, because they really
did love each other, I think.
I never really bought them as a couple.
Well, I did.
I did. I thought they were cute together. I thought they were cute together.
I thought they were cute together.
So that was sad. He dies.
And then Needy goes to Jennifer's
house, goes up into her bedroom
and attacks Jennifer
and stabs her with a
knife. Yeah, they have this crazy, they're fighting
and also then Jennifer's like hovering at one
point kind of like
kind of flooding like flat on her back and then Needy's kind of like straddling her. So it's sort hovering at one point Kind of like Kind of flooding like flat on her back and then
Needy's kind of like straddling her
So it's sort of like they're kind of like
Sexual fighting in the air
And then there's a thing about that's a both have like BFF
Necklaces and I think the necklace gets pulled
Off and that's a very dramatic moment
Okay and then she stabs her in the heart
And she kills her and then
Jennifer's mom walks in the bedroom
And sees her on top of
tell her about Jennifer's last line
oh
oh my gosh she gets stabbed
in the chest and she goes
my tit
my tit and then
no your heart
oh my god
and then the mom walks in and it's like okay
we get it Needy's gonna go to a Satan asylum. They're gonna think she's the one
who killed all the men in town. Blah, blah, blah.
Yeah, so then she goes
to the mental asylum and then the last scene
is her breaking out of the mental asylum
because you find out that
she has supernatural powers that
she's received from Jennifer. Killing Jennifer.
When Jennifer, like, she killed her,
Jennifer bit her, I guess, in some of her
powers. No, no, no, like, in the voice of no there's something like stupid bogus
Like it's like she's like oh
But you didn't know that when you kill a demon you actually absorb
Some of their demonic soul and it's like
Another like just like fake occult
Demon role that's not
So you see her hovering
In the mental asylum just like
How Jennifer was and then she
Uses her powers to break out
And she hitchhike Hitchhikes gets in the car like how Jennifer was and then she uses her powers to break out and she
hitchhikes gets in the
car of a creepy man and she
says she's going to see a rock
band she likes. Obviously
implying she's going to kill
low shoulder. Right.
Low shoulder also performed at the prom
which I thought was I thought like like
I thought Jennifer was going to get her revenge and kill
all of them. That I thought was weird. I don't get Jennifer was gonna get her revenge And kill all of them that I thought was
Weird I don't get why Jennifer didn't kill the band
That was a huge logical missed
Opportunity if they're at prom
Like already performing like what a waste
No wouldn't your very first thing
You would do is go find low shoulder
And kill them right you want to like get
Revenge on the people that's Jennifer
Didn't really everyone care
Jennifer was like psyched that she was a demon, right?
Yeah, I guess so, actually. But still...
You might be psyched you're a demon, but you'd still be
pissed that those people did that to you.
Maybe she's just, like, not
her anymore, I guess. Yeah.
But I thought that if this was... Because everyone
keeps calling it now, they keep calling it, like,
it's actually a revenge fantasy movie
and that's one of the more positive things
about it. It's not. But she doesn't get
revenge on it. But it's not really.
Men? I guess she gets revenge on all the men
who have kind of objectified her in a way.
But it's not
done in a way that's very effective.
It doesn't feel like they've played up enough. I haven't seen it. But at the top
that that is happening to her.
Yeah. Exactly.
Yeah. I mean, it's like a really
like the whole kind of, you of you know oh she's not a
virgin like kind of feminist like you know the friendship like it has a lot of really great
like ideas and kind of like a really great base and a really great bones basically but it doesn't
like when they're in the kitchen that's kind of where it peaked when i thought it was gonna be
this really smart complex and i thought it was gonna get really kind of like violent and gory
and i was like can't wait for her to kill you know adam brody and the band that are coming for
they these kind of friendships like
like hit it but it didn't really
I mean it kind of just like
yeah let's remake it I mean just kind of like
spluttered out at the end there
yeah that's how I felt too
um well Adam Brody
is about to be in another
similar movie he's in what's it
Promising Young Woman did you guys watch that trailer
you sent us the trailer and I never watched it.
No, but he's also in that
Ready or Not movie.
Yep, yep, yep. But Promising
Young Woman is literally about, it's Carrie Mulligan
and she, like, pretends to black
out at bars and then whatever guys try to take
advantage of her, she murders them. Oh, we watched this at my house.
Oh, fuck yeah. And Adam Brody
is one of the guys that she kills.
That does look look that looks good
that sounds fun yeah so we'll see if the kind of a similar concept is executed better in 2019 2020
2020 yeah oh my god i bet it will be i think so i mean this movie was ahead of its time in its own
way i mean i just do love the idea of like um like a men having to be terrified of a woman i mean that's the the main you know
metaphor going on there they're not enough they're and they're not they're not enough
horror movies that are from the perspective of women generally and so that's unusual about this
movie and exploring teenage friendships or just female friendships but especially younger female friendships is rife with
opportunity for horror films because
it's a scary world out
there. Hell is a teenage girl.
It's really true. It is. Being
a teenager was a horrible time.
Probably for everybody but
girls are really mean. Girls are
so fucking mean to each other
and this movie
kind of touches on it but it doesn't Yeah. And this movie kind of, it
touches on it, but it doesn't
get into it in any kind of interesting
way in my point of view.
I mean, we both felt like it could have really
gotten deeper, explored more stuff.
It kind of touched upon stuff and then it really didn't go
any further. And then it was so
predictable. That was the
biggest problem for me. It was like, obviously she's killing guys
in town, like, you know, she kills these guys.
Like, oh, she's killing anybody that sort of Needy likes.
And then, obviously...
She's going to go after Needy's boyfriend.
She's going to kill her boyfriend.
So, Needy's going to have to kill her.
And then...
And you would know she's in the insane asylum from the beginning.
Yeah.
So, that's given away right in the beginning.
She only killed her after she killed her boyfriend.
Like, it almost would have been more interesting if she's like, someone has to stop this person
who's also my friend.
Like, I have to do it. Right was just yeah it was i don't know
what did you guys think i mean i'm i'm like intrigued yeah but i'm glad that i know to to
change my expectations i think i will still watch it um because it sounds yeah like i said like kind
of splitting the difference between the two things that it's like not totally shitty but it's also not like a big feminist masterpiece no yeah exactly yeah i
guess i'm like so much promise unfulfilled is like kind of a bummer because i it does sound
like it could be so fucking cool i wonder how much was yeah like in the production of it what
like what they allowed them to do and if they had to tone anything down i'm sure they did i'm sure
like maybe they had more interesting stuff in there and then all the dudes in charge
were like, no, I'm sure.
Take that out.
Like I wonder if there's more like female friendship stuff and they're like, no, we
want more of like her being sexy and evil and killing boys.
Yeah.
Because that's the majority of her time on the screen.
And also once it happens once, like we get it.
Like she's killing these boys.
Like we don't need to see it again.
Right.
I mean, she does like Megan Fox is good.
She does that sort of like that creepy Valley Girl dark thing she does.
Like it's a good role for her.
Yeah.
I'm sure at the time it maybe felt more.
Yeah.
If I saw it in 2009, it would have been like, I've never seen anything like this before.
So in the box review um it talks about how when
jennifer's body premiered it was viewed as a sex romp for straight teen boys um and that's how it
was marketed and so it was a failure because that's not what the movie is actually like it's
like the opposite of that yeah and so instead what jennifer's body offers up is um in response to the
trauma and tragedy of what happened to jenn Jennifer in the van is the cathartic
fantasy of what happens next of Jennifer
turning her trauma against her attackers
of her using her victimized
violated body to wreak bloody
vengeance on the patriarchy.
I love the idea of that, but
I don't think that's actually what happens in the movie.
No, it's not. It's like the base concept of
the movie, but it's not really like... It's what you think would
happen when you start watching. the the boys that she kills too are they haven't they're only
they haven't necessarily wronged her no they haven't done anything wrong the thing that they
are their downfall is the fact that they are allow themselves to be seduced by her right
well thanks for listening guys wow my first movie that I
went through
it wasn't scary like what was
it like what was would you say was the scariest part
I think the fire sounds like the scariest part
I think that was the most like the most like
real scary yeah that's just
like a fucking terrifying thought unexpectedly
horrifying and intense because it came out
wasn't even supernatural no not
what was kind of weird too that is weird that it wasn't
um
anyway anything else you guys no
that's it that's it that's it that's all
folks thanks
so happy to be here
can't wait for number four
number four um

Yay.
Oh, I love this.
Okay.
Today, and I was briefly in a gym, briefly, and a woman was mentioning to her friends
in the locker room that she's going to moisturize more in the new year.
I like that.
And I was like, honestly, yeah.
I think we should have realistic goals like that one.
Yeah, I would love to just be better about moisturizing in 2020.
I'm going to do a dry January.
Impressive.
And I'm going to up the amount of books that I read.
I read 33 books this year.
Sammy, that's a lot of books.
I'm going to go for at least 36 next year.
36 books.
You can do that.
I think I can do it.
You can definitely do that.
Yeah.
Oh, I love that.
Wait, now I need a better one.
Ah, fuck.
I don't know. I don't know i don't
know moisturizing is pretty good it's important it's important i mean i guess um i guess overall
well i'll i'll lump that into a bigger thing which could be just like paying more attention to my
needs and trying to meet them yes right now my skin needs moisture yeah good place to start that
need but that's going to be the overall, yeah,
just like paying,
being more present with myself.
Love it.
Great.
Well,
it's going to be a fucking good year.
It's going to be a fucking good year.
This is also the year for collaging.
Oh,
we're going to collage. That's the thing that we are going to do.
Vision boards.
We're going to moisturize and collage.
Big year.
