Welcome to episode 510 of Toronto Mic'd, a weekly podcast about anything and everything.
Proudly brought to you by Great Lakes Brewery, Propertyinthe6.com, Palma Pasta, StickerU.com,
Capadia LLP CPAs, and Pumpkins After Dark.
LP CPAs and pumpkins after dark.
I'm Mike from Toronto,
Mike.com.
And my guest this week to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Lilith fair is Canadian rock goddess.
Naked.
I'm counting out the money paying you to say such nice things.
I should be paying you listen.
And I will in many ways.
When I called you Canadian rock goddess,
I had a moment of like, isn't that Lee Aaron?
I believe so.
Like, are we allowed to...
Actually.
Are we allowed to call Biff Naked Canada?
We can't just take the title from Lee and just give it to you.
Certainly not.
Absolutely not.
Because that really is the, you know,
I mean, I don't ever want to compartmentalize anybody
into, you know, what they did in their beginning.
But, you know, the Metal Queen still, for me,
was a pivotal, a pivotal moment.
You're just a little bit here.
A little taste.
One, two, three, four!
A little taste.
One, two, three, four.
The OG.
Listen to that drum sound, actually.
Did you ever perform with Lee Aaron?
I don't think I ever have had the pleasure.
I should make that happen.
Can I get the collab going?
I want a Leigh Aron Biff naked collaboration. I love it all.
I love it all.
This was a big jam.
Have you ever met her?
I actually have to think about it.
I don't know.
Because it looks like you're looking at,
I should tell the world,
that Snake is in the house.
Snake is your, what's his title?
Lover, partner, boyfriend, husband?
What title does he get?
Well, I usually introduce Snake as my guitar player.
A guitar player with benefits.
Actually, he's my long-suffering husband.
It's good to see Snake.
Snake, of course, is the big Kiss fan.
Well, a member of the Kiss army for a lifetime
and one of the most prominent Kiss collectors,
I think, in the country.
Including collecting Kiss tattoos.
And as we spoke on a previous episode,
and I'm going to remind people
where they can listen
to previous Biff naked appearances,
but your real name is Beth,
which I think most people know, but maybe not everybody.
And Beth, of course, is the KISS song
that everybody knows whether they like hard rock or not.
They know Beth.
Yes.
So this was obvious.
He had to pursue you.
He was drawn to your name.
I think so.
But, you know, it was one of those, when you start dating over 40, you know, it's a bit elusive.
It's quite daunting.
And, yeah, he wouldn't call me.
He didn't call me for like six months.
How would you know what it's like to date over 40?
You're not 40 yet.
God bless.
God bless you, son.
That's two.
I'm taking that.
God bless. I'm going to send an invoice. Yes. Check's in the mail. I know where 40 yet. God bless. God bless you, son. That's two. I'm taking that. God bless.
I'm going to send an invoice.
Yes.
Check's in the mail.
I know where you live.
Thank you.
Well, I'm close enough.
I'll just yell it from like the bike trail.
Did you get some biking in the summer?
We did.
And we discovered your neighborhood.
We actually, we bike right past your place.
New Toronto.
Yeah.
All the time.
And we go all the way to Long Branch and pass.
We cycle to Port Credit.
I made him cycle to the beaches from Park Lawn one sunny Sunday.
I thought so.
It was very...
20K at least?
On our BMXs, by the way.
On these BMXs.
So BMX is still working for you on our trails?
I don't see a lot of BMXs out there.
No, it's a lot of fun.
But I think that we put a lot of kilometers
on these little important little hutch trick stars.
I think that I need a regular bike.
I can assemble something from a garbage bin and be happy.
A reclamation project.
I am on the trail almost every day.
And every time I'm out there, I'm looking for you.
Like I'm just looking, where's Biff?
Will I ever cross Biff's path?
You can't miss me.
Right, that's what I figured.
I figured you're going to stick out on that.
Well, my bike is pink.
So everyone sees me when it's pink.
But I'm also, I find that I look up all the time.
I don't watch where I'm going. I'm always listening for birds. But I'm also, I find that I look up all the time. I don't watch where I'm going.
I'm always listening for birds.
And I'm always looking up because if I hear a cardinal,
well, then anyone who's biking with me knows that we come to a dead stop.
Slam on the brakes.
Well, I start trying to find it so that I can film it on my phone
and send it to my mother in Winnipeg.
Oh, because she's a big cardinal fan.
She is a birder.
A birder.
Yes, she loves birds.
Her mother loved birds.
They're Audubon Society people.
In the bird world, what's the word?
Audubon?
Isn't that a highway in Germany?
No.
That's Audubon, yes.
Not to be confused with the Rieferbahn.
But yeah, the Audubon Society is, yeah, that's...
Bird watchers.
Yeah.
In the bird kingdom, it's the males that are the most attractive, right?
Because you're not taking video of female cardinals.
Well, because they blend in, like the female robins and whatnot.
It's, yeah, it's harder to see them sometimes.
They're elusive.
I think misogyny is okay in the bird world, only from our camera's perspective.
Well, yeah.
You know, nature is really crazy
because nature really does do things in a very calculated way.
Right.
Nature is effing lit, as the kids would say.
Effing lit.
I've got to thank Murray because I had a plumbing emergency.
I've had a couple
of plumbing emergencies
in the last week
oh dear
Murray's a long time buddy
like I used to know him
as a teenager
and
Murray
is a plumber
okay
oh very good
good to know
comes in handy
yeah let me know
if you need a plumber
Murray
I'm like these late night
oh yeah watch out
those chairs are tricky
I like it though
the captain's chair.
It's a Blue Sky Agency actually donated those chairs to the show
because they love this podcast so much.
Thank you, Blue Sky Agency.
Yeah, those are great.
Now, where am I going?
I just want to thank Murray that, like, last night, for example,
he was here helping me with a toilet issue upstairs.
And I was thinking, if I don't fix this,
because there's two little kids in the house,
like a three-year-old and a five-year-old
that sleep upstairs.
Cutest ages.
Very, oh yeah, super cute.
But sometimes it could be
four in the morning
and like little Morgan
has to pee, right?
And little Morgan,
way too scared
to come all the way down here
in the middle of the night
and go pee.
Of course.
So it was a code blue.
Yes.
Otherwise, I'm getting up with her
and bringing her
all the way down here to go
to the washroom so murray helped me out so i wanted to say hi to murray hello murray thank you for your
help and murray i'll be at your 50th birthday party very nice exciting a milestone and maybe
i'll bring biff with me i'll see if you never can tell what will happen in life i want to ask you
about i'm obsessed with this.
This is your third visit,
so maybe I should tell people that
if they want to hear the original deep dive
that we did together,
that's episode 331.
331.
Did you get a 331 tattoo yet, Biff?
Not yet,
but now I'm really seriously considering it, actually.
Right after she, her, 331.
331. And then the description her, 3-3-1. 3-3-1.
And then the description I wrote was really short and sweet.
It was Mike chats with rock goddess.
So I've been calling you that from the get-go.
Rock goddess, Biff naked about everything.
I put everything in all caps.
So I know we covered everything.
424, that's your next visit.
424.
And Mike catches up with rock goddess.
I'm going to keep, I love it. It's going to catch on
Biff naked before playing and discussing her 10 favorite songs of all time. And Snake joined you
on that one. So here we are back. I took a trip, like a family vacation to British Columbia in
August. Very nice. And yeah, it's lovely. You ever heard of it? Vancouver? So I'm going to let Brian ask you the question.
I'm glad Brian's asking you this question
because I want to ask you the same thing.
So this is very convenient for everybody.
But this is Brian.
Property in the six dot com.
Hi Biff, Brian Gerstein here,
sales representative with PSR Brokerage and proud sponsor of Toronto Might.
Galleria Condos are finally here.
I attended the launch event a couple days ago and have complete pricing and floor plans.
I already submitted a worksheet for one of my clients to get one.
This Saturday, September 14th is the first day of sales.
If you want one, call or text me at 416-873-0292.
They're perfect for living in yourself or renting out.
Okay, Biff, you have been in the six long enough to answer this question.
Better place to live, Vancouver or Toronto?
And not, I love them both.
And not, I love them both.
Because that's the cop-out obvious answer that somebody like yourself would use
because you're nice.
Well, the thing about it is they're so different.
And being here now for over a year,
again, you know, I always got to bring it back
to social justice because they have to.
So when we first moved here,
we were able to register to vote and we voted.
Not that it made a difference. No. How we were able to register to vote and we voted.
Not that it made a difference.
No.
How we voted.
No offense to anyone.
But anyway, and now we're heading into another election.
So I find living in Toronto, I have had to re-educate myself with what the issues are that affect everyone in the city.
It's a very different environment and the society is so
different from Vancouver. Can you tell me how
it's different? Only because
I spent a whole week in Vancouver. I'm now an
expert on the city. I see.
You have a tremendous perspective
on this because 30 years, how long
were you in Vancouver? My entire adult
life. Which is okay.
Literally like my entire adult life
I lived there. So to kind of come of
age and grow up there yeah really it's a very conservative society it's extremely polite
um and i mean across the board and where i notice it always is driving so that's why you know
everyone teases me about all my cop hats. I have lots of cop hats. And you're wearing a Vancouver police shirt right now.
I am.
Yeah, the emergency team.
Here's part of why.
And I really recommend this for anyone, particularly women or anyone who feels vulnerable.
If you go for walks by yourself, if you go jogging or running by yourself stuff like that i always find it helps to um wear some
emblem that is like uh you know you can buy them at your local cop store it's not called that it's
like you know here it's the police museum but they sell hats and sweatpants right like the
special or something uh right opp hat yes yes yes who is also a neighbor by the way yeah yeah just do you ever see him um sometimes
sometimes that's exciting yeah we were naked and uh kim mitchell just kind of get to play with him
sometimes in the summer and they're they're so fantastic amazing yeah it's lots of fun but um
so with driving here it's my biggest issue uh as far as the differences go things that happen
here in toronto on the roads would be considered absolutely outrageous.
Wow.
Like to the height of absolute impolite,
outrageous, you know, things that happen.
Is it just too much volume?
Like people have no, what is it?
No, it is the lawlessness
and the absolute cavalier interpretation
of transportation laws.
Like literally that's what, and my friends,
I have friends who are comedians and they're just like, you know,
you're actually insane that this is always something you talk about.
You're like, is this a skit? Like, is this a bit?
Yeah.
I'm like, no, actually no.
So I would like to have a meeting this year with the transportation minister
and talk about my sticker program that I think is great.
Okay, tell me about the sticker program because it's going to segue nicely
because I'm going to give you some stickers right after you tell me about that.
So truthfully, I think that everyone here speeds.
So when I first moved to this area,
I didn't understand that if I'm in any lane, pick a lane, any lane,
and if it says maximum 100, that is what I'm going to drive because that is the maximum speed limit set by the law.
That really is what it means.
Guess what?
That's what it means.
So instead of the polite type of suggestion or just, you know, casually just go around me
if you're going to be a lawless speeder.
Are you in the right lane?
Sometimes.
Like the right lane?
Sometimes.
Not the correct lane, but the right lane?
Sometimes.
Because if you're going 100 in any lane
but the right lane, you're doing it wrong.
And it's dangerous.
It sounds dangerous to me.
It's actually not dangerous
because it is actually the law
and that is actually the maximum.
No wonder these comedians think it's a bit.
It is the maximum speed limit. So my point is here in ontario what they like to do is pull up right
behind your bumper as close as as possible that they can get and uh this is assuming people don't
have cruise control i mean anything can happen in a split second two car lengths is that's right
and so they pull up right behind you and either turn their brights on yeah or they split second, two car lengths is what is considered safe. That's right. Chevrons or whatever you call that. Yeah.
And so they pull up right behind you and either turn their brights on.
Yeah.
Or they honk.
Well, they're trying to intimidate you, right?
Well, and I find that very interesting just from a sociological perspective.
But Biff, if I may, to me, it all depends on whether you're in there.
If you're in the right lane and you're going to speed limit,
that's an asshole move by whoever's behind you. Like that's a dick move. Not acceptable. But, but, but, but, but, but if you're in the right lane and you're going to speed limit, that's an asshole move by whoever's behind you.
Like that's a dick move.
Not acceptable.
But,
but,
but,
but,
but, but if you're in the left lane and then you're on the highway,
let's say you're on the Gardner expressway or something,
and you're going a hundred in the left lane,
you kind of deserve that.
You get out of the left lane.
If you're going to go a hundred.
Here's my question.
Here's my question.
Yeah.
So is the posted maximum speed limit different for all of the lanes?
It's a simple question.
I understand that everybody thinks the law is malleable.
It's fluid.
But it isn't actually.
Actually, it isn't.
It's actually the law.
Oh, my goodness.
Biff, I can now see why the eye rolls are being baked over there by Snake.
I'm confused.
But you're very, don't you believe in the spirit of the law?
Like, why are you so, like, seriously.
I believe, I believe in the spirit of the law.
When I'm biking, I don't always come to a complete stop at stop signs.
I slow down.
That's called a rolling stop, by the way.
And that's because I'm into the spirit of the law.
I want to make sure everybody is safe. And if I'm in an automobile, that's because i i'm into the spirit of the law i want to make sure
everybody is safe and if i'm in an automobile certainly that's different to me you got to come
to i should you should come to complete stop well see and this is where people behind the wheel of
a car would probably disagree with a person on a bicycle who doesn't come to a company yeah i get
i get yelled at a lot actually uh well again let not yell. Why not everybody pull over and let's have a conversation?
Why don't you get out of the car and say,
can we have a conversation about the differences we see?
I'm picturing you on the 401 in the left lane going 100 and complaining.
That is the posted speed limit.
In BC, which I did rent a car out there, so I was driving quite a bit.
I did the sea to sky.
Yes, very beautiful.
Beautiful.
Even in BC, maybe it's because I'm from here, but when it was posted 100,
my mind translated that into 110, like right off the bat.
So now 110 is my mental cap, and I'm allowed to go 5 to 10 over.
So my serious hard cap trying to not get
a big expensive ticket
was 120
as long as it was safe.
Which is actually
breaking the law.
So actually,
actually,
that would have earned you
had you been flagged.
You should have been a cop.
But you would have been
a dick cop if I may say.
Nobody likes that cop
who's so pedantic.
I should have been a lawyer.
Well, yes.
Actually.
Not too late, by the way. I know it's not too late. Recent guest, Lorantic. I should have been a lawyer. Well, yes. Actually. It's not too late, by the way.
I know it's not too late.
Recent guest, Lorne Honigman, became a lawyer.
So, does that mean you choose, again, Brian's question is loaded.
I'll be shocked if you answer it, to be honest, because why would you want to alienate either
fan base or, like, there's millions of people that play here.
I don't think there's anything that anyone needs to be alienated about.
There's difference in hockey teams.
Yep.
Football.
Soccer.
Neither city cares about their football team.
Correct.
Please continue.
Which is a shame.
Which is a crying shame, by the way.
Which is a shame.
So I think that there are differences.
But because it's so apples and oranges.
And I know that it was suggested or recommended that I can't say both.
No, because I told Brian, you're just going to say both because you're like a politician
out here.
I'm here to keep you in check.
It's called real talk.
Well, I just think that there's so different.
It's like saying, do you like watermelon or do you like chicken?
I love watermelon.
Or do you like chicken?
I love chicken.
Literally, it's like that different.
It's that different.
I think that...
Any plans to move back
no not that answers the question i rest my case your honor you're happy here and can i we are
very happy we love it here we're very close to mastercard center i just want to tell everyone
you can do stick and puck drop in all week long join us and leafs Camp is opening like today or something.
And that's where they practice, of course.
By the way, MasterCard Center was renamed,
but they didn't tell anybody.
I know what it was renamed.
Okay, what was it renamed?
Ford.
Correct.
So it was kind of bizarre to me
because I watched the sign go up like months ago.
I see.
And still, they're still writing about it
like it's the MasterCard Center.
But of course, it has a big sign on it
that says the Ford Center of Excellence or something like that.
And to be sure, this is the cars and not the family.
The cars and not the family.
Thank you for clarifying.
Because you never know, because you just never know.
I'd be protesting.
I'd be out there protesting.
Well, and what a time it is to be living in Ontario.
I mean, I don't have a...
Toronto as a city
overwhelmingly voted
against the Progressive Conservative
Party in that provincial
election. That's what I understand.
So we're sort of like at the
beholden of the rest of the province, which
as you might have learned by now,
likes to hate Toronto. They seem to resent
us for some reason. Well, this is what I've been told and this is what I...
Did they hate us in Vancouver?
Like when you lived there, did they hate Toronto?
I think that probably they had a bit of a disdain.
You know, they were...
There's always like...
I don't know.
I think that for whatever reason, Toronto gets a reputation across the country yes especially i would say
out west i feel like especially in like alberta and bc uh they seem to like love to hate us
i don't know like when you look at america let's say for this for an example yeah i'm not sure if
los angeles and las vegas you know do they hate new york and boston yeah do they hate
the brunes like like what we actually don't know i don't know so so then to me i say well then why
because why would they because we go oh that's preposterous why would they hate them so that's
what i say why would they why would the other provinces possibly hate toronto did you explain
the sticker thing?
Like, didn't you bring up, you didn't explain it, right?
Not yet.
No, okay.
So explain the sticker thing.
I need to hear it.
And then I'm going to give you some stickers from stickeru.com.
Okay.
I do run a risk of someone ripping my idea off and then, you know, making billions of dollars.
But if you do that, that's great because you've made a difference for your country and for safety i can't wait to hear so what i believe truly i've been saying this
for a couple years i think they should implement a sticker program where you or myself can go down to
um the local police station and we can register you know okay register our license plate and our driving record.
They can see clearly what our driving record is.
And we can be a trusted driver.
This is like Nexus.
Very similar to Nexus.
And people love to be a part of Nexus
because they want to get in the short line.
Yeah, right.
So we can be a trusted driver
and you get a sticker for your car.
This is our version of a trusted driver.
And that means,
and I want to have a sticker that says,
if you pass me, you're speeding.
And when I have that sticker.
I don't like this dystopian nanny state you're trying to bring to Toronto.
It's all about safety.
Because then people know it's their own conscious decision they're making.
If you see that sticker as a trusted driver of a car,
you know that's the pace car. That, you know that's the pace car.
That's the car
that's the pace car.
All right.
If you pass that car,
you know you are making
that decision to speed.
That's it.
Simple.
It's not about...
I am kind of mildly fascinated
by your obsession
with that speed limit,
that posted speed limit
because to me,
it's all about
a safe pace of traffic.
Like, if anything,
we should bump up
the 100 maybe to 110.
Who decides?
Well, when I drove to Prince Edward Island,
I can tell you the posted highway speed limit in New Brunswick,
at least, was 110.
In some places, it's 120.
In Canada?
Yes.
Wow, I got to go there.
Okay.
But because for whatever reason, the studies have been done
and that's what the study people have deemed
is the most safe.
The only problem as I see it is that
because when I see 100,
my brain automatically seizes at 110, okay?
And I'm going to be slightly over that, right?
If it's safe to do so,
like we're not in volume traffic or whatever,
which is rare around Toronto.
But okay, if I saw 120 as opposed to spin,
then my brain would make it 130.
Of course, I understand.
My master protege probably won't get there.
I don't know if it gets to 140.
Well, it might.
But the point is,
the fact that your brain defaults to stepping it up.
I don't think we're allowed to do that with the law.
Can we do that with all the laws?
I don't think you can reprogram society like it's too late.
Well, every law is different.
But Biff, fascinated by your sticker idea.
When you get these stickers made, I know a place.
StickerU.com.
They're a great business in Liberty Village.
But of course, they're online.
So if you can get on the web, you can order stickers.
So you can even get that's a temporary tattoo.
I thought of the
you applying it
and then taking it
to your tattoo artist
of choice.
Yeah.
And saying
make this permanent.
Very nice.
Do you like this idea?
I could consider this.
I would consider this.
See that's kind of you
to even consider it.
I would consider that.
That's very nice.
These are very nice.
That's the latest album
by the way by
Friends of Toronto Mike
Lowest of the Low.
Oh very cool. I don't know if you've ever
met Ron Hawkins
and the guys there

A week today. So that
is the 19th of September. The 19th of
September. From 6pm to 9pm
I'll be recording the patio
of Great Lakes Brewery.
If it rains, we have a big room inside
where we can go and we'll
be covered. And everybody who
comes gets their first beer on the
house. That's a pretty good deal.
It's as good as it gets.
That's right.
That's good.
So,
thank you Great Lakes Brewery.
Thank you Palma Pasta.
Thank you Sticker U.
I'm going to play a little jam
for this one real quick here.
Do you like ministry?
Yes,

You'll tell me if you don't like this.
I need the truth from you.
Always, Biff.
Remember that.

Okay.
I'll bring down ministry

this was happening and we're going to have to
move some chairs around because Biff brought a guest
and I'm going to have to do
a little rearranging here but
Mishy Me is here

put those on yeah good here let me get okay
all right yeah you got to get over the lip of that rug there with the wheels.
It's worth it.
So cool.
These mics, though, of course, Mishimi, the mics are very... In fact, your headphone volume won't be right.
So hold on.
Actually, hold on.
It's not going to be on.
Just one second here.
Tell me if it gets louder.
Tell me if you can hear us.
Far from here?
Oh.
Can you hear me now?
I can hear you now.
Okay.
Oh, my gosh.
I was schooling him on the highways and my plans to implement
safer speeds.
Okay, Mish,
I need you right on that microphone.
I hope it doesn't hurt your back.
Oh no, I'm good.
Welcome, Mishimi.
It's good to see you.
Thanks for having me down here back again.
You know, when I saw you last,
was the beer fest?
Yes.
You were there.
Blanked.
I remember because you had the Canada Fly T-shirt on.
I was excited that day,
not only because i got to
see mishimi there but i was meeting chuck d who i've never met before yeah wow i know that is so
cool and i saw mishimi there and uh you were great i watched your set i was watching your set with
chuck you came early oh yeah really early because originally i was supposed to meet chuck like two
hours before we went for dinner and then okay and then i was ready to talk sit down with chuck and then they said oh he wants
to watch mishy me set and then i said oh so do i love you guys of course love you guys
oh my gosh i want to for a moment uh i was just giving biff some stuff uh by the way mishy me i'm
going to give you tickets to pumpkins after dirk too i'll explain what it all is in your email, but free tickets to Pumpkins After Dirk.
Very nice.
In Milton.
Thank you.
In Milton.
Okay.
Do you mind if I listen in?
I know I missed the excitement there,
but okay.
So how do you know each other?
Like you guys are,
when I think of great Canadian musicians,
okay,
I think of you guys together.
I think you're,
because you're fantastic people.
Biff is a wonderful person,
but an amazing musician. I pay him. I pay him to say this. Biff is a wonderful person, but an amazing musician.
I pay him.
But Mishy Mee,
I can't say it.
Everybody I talk to,
I'm like,
Mishy Mee is still fantastic.
Like was fantastic,
is fantastic.
Great.
I don't even want to say Canadian musician,
like it qualifies it somehow,
but great musician.
And it's great that you're both here
because we're going to talk about the 20th anniversary of lila fair we're going to kick
out some lila fair jams but i'm i'm with two you're the canadian rock goddess i'm with the
hip-hop goddess so like over 26 years ago we toured together across canada in the biff naked
rap punk pop invitational tour where mishimi toured in Ragged Death.
And it was amazing.
It was an amazing experience.
I don't think anyone knows.
It was so much fun.
As a female rap artist, when you're going into the rock world
and just kind of getting to know yourself as a young lady,
because I was a young lady, and then watching you.
That was innovative.
Watching you perform and just go hard.
You improved my live show.
Like you were just, she's just so fearless.
And it was just so nice to see it.
And I wasn't looking at like a rap artist and getting energy from that.
It was like real Canadian hardcore woman power.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And she was that woman and she brought me on tour. I mean, you can count how many tours we get as a rapper is doing anything in Canada and as a female rap artist.
So she brought me on tour.
So that's one of the chapters in the book that's just implemented in my mind, my life.
Well, I've been bugging you both for a while about a collaboration.
Right?
Haven't I?
Touring in Canada is very, very elusive
for artists.
I mean, Canada is one
of the only countries,
for example,
that allows us
to utilize funding
from the government.
Listen, voters out there,
you want to keep
supporting the arts?
Come on,
it's an election issue
because this is how,
this is how artists like us
were able to do it i mean and
especially at that time it was very hard now it's harder it is and it's it's so much competition
yeah now it's very hard you know it's it's diluted a bit and so so it's hard you know it's daunting
um petrol's expensive flights are expensive it's harder to tour that's how the Europeans call it the petrol you know me
girl of the world
especially in the
hip hop community
they all think
it's easy to tour
and easy to put a tour
together
and get that support
and it's not
so that's the other
part of being able
to go out with you
and be a part of
something that got funding
because it's very hard
to get out there
it's not that easy
to just book a show
so wait
when was this tour, you guys?
What was it called again?
The Biff Naked Rap Punk Pop Invitational.
I'm playing some Ragged Death right now.
So Dance of the Devil, one of my favorite.
I still play it all the time.
I still love it, actually.
And I love how it ends, too.
It's timeless.
It's timeless, you know, ultimately.
And even now
trying to find
trying to scroll
and find stuff
on YouTube
is sometimes
a little difficult
but you dig
you'll find
some of these
old videos
from artists
like us
and it's
it's hilarious
okay so we're
gonna
joyful
as we play
these jams
by great
woman musicians
it'll be great
to get kind of
now we got Mishy Mee and Biff Naked on amazing were you surprised I need to know by great woman musicians. It'll be great to get kind of,
now we got Mishy Mee and Biff naked on.
Amazing.
Were you surprised?
I need to know,
because you had no idea, right?
I feel like,
it's like one of those things where I'm like,
am I going to die?
Well, Snake is here to protect you.
Right?
I have stalked you enough on Twitter.
I'm just so proud of you.
You've overcome so much too.
I think there's so much backstory
with you and your survival. I just don't want to go there. I'm just so proud of you. You've overcome so much too. I think there's so much backstory with you and your survival.
I just don't want to go there. Everybody.
I don't think anybody overstepped her strength.
It goes through so much.
And then to do this.
To do this musicianship job.
And then to see what you
and your whole growth.
So it's that. We need to pay tribute to
strong female artists while they're here.
And she's one of them.
She's influenced my hip-hop in so many ways.
She's a survivor.
I know we're going to think so.
I stalked her on Twitter.
And you, Mike.
I just wanted to make sure that I could pop down here and just let you know.
We have it documented.
You're the real deal.
You're the real deal.
I was going to say, you're describing biff the way i describe you like a strong powerful canadian musician and that's how it is and i think
um canadian women are just being anointed right now let me turn this up for 10 seconds you can feel this you live your life on that level are you a rebel have you ever danced with the devil i got you stuck on my realness y'all raise your hands one time if you can feel this
you live your life on that level are you a rebel now you better dance with the devil
bitch love that are you kidding me i still i still i still love hearing that it's amazing
i can't believe they kept that in the studio and it became a song
it's amazing it became an anthem i think something happened the studio and it became a song. It's amazing.
It became an anthem, I think.
Something happened.
It was a long night.
It was a long night.
I didn't know your DJ now is Jamar.
He's a friend of the show.
I love that guy.
Jamar's so cool.
So he's new to the city.
He loves his hip hop.
He loves his reggae music.
And he just knows his stuff. So he's very easy to work with. And't have he's just he just knows his stuff so he's
very easy to work with and yeah he's just been an asset to our group yeah he's a good he's a good
guy uh i like jay nice is his uh dj dj jay nice jay nice that's that night was bizarre to me
because surreal because i was a public enemy fan since the beginning and it was just surreal to
like have a chance to sit down and have chuck d on toronto mike like the whole idea right it was i haven't been that i mean there's only the only comparison i think
was when biff naked came on or mishy me came on so if anybody wants to hear the deep dive
oh for after i should have okay uh i i was just i'm gonna play a thank you which i dig as well
but uh it was episode 434.
Mike chats with Mishimi about the roots of Toronto hip-hop,
her rap battles, breaking out with Jamaican funk,
Ragged Death, Flow 93.5, and more.
So people want to hear the deep dive with Mishimi.
That's 434.
And I see now that because that last time you were here, Biff, was 424. So you guys were here close together.
Why was Mishy Meenot on the Lilifare tour?
I'm looking at you like you organized it.
I was only on one year.
I'm looking like he asked.
Should I call Sarah?
Is she the one who's responsible?
Why is Mishy Meenot on the tour?
It was like so, you know, you're talking about Network, Little Big Man, and Sarah.
It's a lot of spokes in a wheel that book tours.
I think that for three years, and Sarah, I think the first two years,
it was like her and Sheryl Crow consistently.
And I think it was their response to not being supported on radio,
back to back, et cetera, not being on the same bill, et cetera, et cetera.
And in hard rock, in hardcore, and probably in hip hop,
especially early hip hop,
often we were always placed with the other females, always.
And it was hard to get a seat at the table with the big boys.
So it was almost an opposite thing.
I think that if Lilith Fair were to happen again today, I think that they would have a deeper nod to more diversity, a deeper nod to more inclusion, because the world has changed. Music has changed and evolved. And I just think that their reach would actually be farther.
would actually be farther.
I'm A-OK with all of that.
As long as the,
if there was a new Lilith Fair or something similar,
as long as you're still
on the bill,
Biff Naked,
and as long as Missy Me's
on that bill,
and a couple more
I'm going to throw out.
Friends of the show
have been on,
but Sky Wallace.
Have you ever heard
Sky Wallace's music?
She's amazing.
And she rocks too.
Yes.
She owes,
yeah,
she owes a lot
to those who came before her.
Sounds amazing.
Sky Wallace.
But there's also, speaking of Vancouver, there's a band called strange breed i've been listening to they call
themselves your favorite queer feminist garage rockers hailing from vancouver and they're coming
on toronto mic soon but they got to be on the bill too so maybe we have uh maybe i help organize
this thing how's that right where this is going why shouldn't we why shouldn't we can i play a
little mishy me before we kick out the little fair jams?
Okay so Mishy
Last time you were here you gave me the thank you
CD so here's just a little
Thank you
Thank you for the clarity and being that coach.
You kept your integrity.
That's why I love you the most.
Thank you for being there when I thought I couldn't manage.
Thank you for being.
I'm looking forward to marriage and sealing and relieving all this baggage I carried.
Thank you for being honest, knowing you're not telling the truth.
Growing up, you make mistakes as youths.
We give thanks and take stands. So thank you. Thanks for telling the truth. Growing up, you make mistakes as youths. We give thanks and take stands.
So thank you.
Thanks for being the host.
You're braver than most.
Going to every meeting.
Never competing.
You didn't have to, but you came anyway.
You stayed every day.
Believed and we prayed.
Walking with sun through the shade.
I wish you the best and nothing less.
Thank you for easing the stress.
Thank you for being a friend. Thank you for reppingpping the trend thank you for being there for me over and over
again thank you yes i love it sounds fresh fantastic what have you been up to lately you
want to fill us in on uh what's the music uh just wrapped up the album So it feels good To finally finish it And Recovering from
An accident
Oh no
Delayed for two years
Oh no
In terms of concussion
And kind of getting
That's why I admire you
And your story
And what you went over
So yeah
It's a new video
New songs
And putting it out again
Good
And it feels good
To kind of be back
At this age
And this stage in the game
And still be wanted
And people wanting To come out to shows
and be needed though
I agree your voice is needed
I agree your voice is needed
that's the other thing people need
Mishimi
I need Mishimi I'm going to just say it right now
in this day and age I think it's imperative
it's more important than ever
you know what it feels good that actually
as you
say that i felt a need in even writing the record it is such a mature but it's so hip-hop like i
haven't even heard it's something that i wanted to hear from artists my age that are still interested
in doing hip-hop and it feels good to actually be releasing it to be canadian releasing it
um to be funded by factor TAC and OAC at this
age and stage and and coming out independently it's just it's just
fighting my way digitally and in a new world sure I'm just putting stuff out
think of how things have changed since you started out pros and cons right mm-hmm
well in one way you know what there's all pros because when
we started out in in making music we never got paid you know people think we were young of course
not perception right no but any band that starts out we start out sleeping in vans and we will do
anything to get on a bill we will do anything to do a show we're gonna drive 12 hours to go do a
show and we're gonna love it and we're gonna split a sandwich with the band and we don't care because we love to play and and what really
has happened is it's come full circle you know it's not not everybody gets to be tv star you know
like a lot of the a lot of the girls who are oh geez especially i always refer to american
pop culture you know they were able to transcend into television.
So it gives a very different view of what it means
to be an artist who has a long career.
But I say we have to look more literally.
I was just reading another story about Tina Turner,
who was my inspiration, because I just think,
no, even when she
was like yeah i don't really feel like putting on a wig and a miniskirt she still was out there
she was out there at like 60 and over and going you know giving it's like judy garland you know
saying to her daughter liza minnelli honey mommy has to go out there and give the people what they
want and then we can go get a hamburger that's know, it's a famous line, and it's really true,
and I think that for women particularly,
I mean, you never get,
it's like being a criminal.
You never get it out of your blood.
You can't get a straight job.
You love it.
You love doing what you do.
Is there any,
I ask this,
and you both look fantastic, by the way,
but is there any ageism at play
in this world of music? Like, is there any ageism at play in this world of music like
is there any uh like do you find it uh tougher as you uh age out of a certain demos no she looks
exactly the same when i toured with her 26 year old we look the same as when we toured yeah so
remember i'm getting a photo with both of you after so it's like it's different in that way
there's a lot of uh i think
there is ageism but i also think that now in this day and age of gwen stefani's face and j-lo turning
50 and like these artists are still out there putting out records and and making music i think
always the bar keeps getting pushed back and i think that it's better i think it's better than it used to
be yeah and probably better than it ever was because some of the icons that we see in media
i mean regardless of how they were able to do it those those girls are timeless looking so now age
doesn't have the same power that it did before yeah it just doesn't somehow i don't know it's
weird and do you feel more control over uh just like recording and distributing your music now that you're less
less reliant for example on like the record deal and the record executives that you could actually
be it is it it should be easier now to be an independent artist right i would think because of
your ability to roll your own well for i can only speak for myself
when i was 23 years old i couldn't get a record deal my manager was told that you'll never get
that tattooed girl on the radio so we just made our own record company and so as someone who's
had to crawl and license and license and license and license and keep going and keep going i don't know any other way
so for me i know the industry has changed so much uh there are no deals there are barely any
development deals for a young artist anymore and um and people really have to be committed to never
give up to never quit and just to put their stuff out there keep putting it out there and it's like
it's more liberating now too because we're at a different time
where we do have the knowledge.
That's the asset that we have is being older.
And I always say, like, hip-hop is kind of in its jazz phase now
where we're going to be the older ones to kind of show
that there is no age in hip-hop and any genre of music that you say.
Because to me, too, when I look at reggae, it's timeless.
They are doji legends.
They just go on forever.
So we kind of use that climate
and the Canadian version of it
in terms of lasting long,
like people like Biff Naked,
and keep going.
And that whole momentum coming together,
I look forward to exploiting the old rap chick
from Canada.
And being, having the freedom.
The OG is what we say.
The OG.
And having the freedom of just putting out the music
ourselves and having that control and knowing what to do with it.
Knowing how to use the social media, knowing what to do with social media, knowing what to put out and what not to put out.
So the maturity is an asset.
And yeah, we can help a lot of younger people at the same time.
Okay, so we played Thank You, which is like a fresher Mishy Me.
See that?
That's right.
Yeah, it's very nice.
I want to play just uh before we get and i
want to kick out these little fair jams and that would i think it'll prompt more chatter between
you and then i can shut the heck up and listen which would be like my dream come true so i want
to play like a fresh biff naked track so let me play let's make sure i've got it here where are
you biff you're coming in here soon.
I should have saw when you come in here.
Are you not there?
Oh, huh.
Oh, you are there.
Okay.
Oh, cool.
I walked into your car last night
to leave a piece of myself behind.
I am hoping you will find it in your heart to love me.
I look into you.
I want you to see me.
I want you to know it might seem unseemly, but I am here.
Oh, yes, I am here.
And I'm not going anywhere.
Unspeakable.
Small and severe are my feelings.
I will stay near.
I will keep you up.
I will keep you up.
And I'm not going anywhere.
I'm coming to anywhere I'm shocked though Somebody who's so law-abiding
Would be breaking into a car Well, you know how it is I'm shocked though somebody who's so law abiding would be breaking into a car
well you know how it is
I'm a Gemini
make no mistake and it's polarized
well you're both making music
that sounds great
so you're
legacy artists or whatever the term is
but you're still pumping out fresh
material
I actually think it's a really important and powerful word.
And it's something that, yeah, I mean, I take pride in it.
You know, because, and I think that anybody who you talk to
when you look at just anybody, bands like Social Distortion
or some of these, yeah, legacy bands, you know,
it's, I don't know, it's something that gives me a sense of pride if you
might not know this i know mishimi knows this because i've told her probably 100 times but uh
i pretty much named my first born daughter after mishimi my daughter michelle because and from the
moment that's amazing that's amazing from the moment uh you know even when she was being uh
baked in the oven there i was calling her her Mishy Mee, not Michelle.
To this day, I call her Mishy Mee.
That's so nice.
That's very cute.
And when Mishy first came over and I had a photo of Mishy, I was showing her.
I'm like, Michelle, look, I finally tricked Mishy Mee into coming to my home.
And here it is right here.
If I have another daughter, I'm going with Beth.
and here it is right here.
If I have another daughter,
I'm going with Beth.
She'll have a lifetime of people asking her
if it's Elizabeth.
Mom?
Mom.
I don't even know
if I have to clear that
with Monica or not.
Okay.
So,
we're going to kick out
the Lilith Fair jams
and hear stories about it.
But I realized
I had one more partner
I needed to thank
when I was surprised.
Missy Meek.
How did,
how did she know?
How did she get in here?
Didn't I lock that door?
Like I have to talk to my security team.
I think it's amazing.
I can't just let anybody wander in off the streets.
This is dangerous.
But Capadia LLP,
they're the rockstar accountants.
Rupesh Capadia is his name.
And if you,
you guys have any business ventures or anything that you need a good accountant who sees beyond the numbers,
all guests and listeners
of Toronto Mike to get a complimentary
consultation. So just let me know.
He's a wonderful man to talk to and he
knows his stuff, sees beyond the numbers. So thank
you, Rupesh
Kapadia at Kapadia
LLP. Okay, now these are
actually not, these are Biff's
Lilith Fair jams, and
this episode's all about
kick-ass
woman musicians, so this is all coming in
nice theme here. So I
gotta ask you, Biff,
are you ready to kick out
the Lilith Fair jams?
I am. These were hand-picked by myself.
Eddie, I do believe I failed you.
ADR, I know I've let you down.
Don't you know I tried so hard to love you in my way.
It's easy.
Let it go.
And I'm empty since you left me.
Missy B just gave me a t-shirt.
I need to put it on right now.
I'm ready to carry on.
I love you. gave me a t-shirt I need to put it on right now.
Sarah McLaughlin.
But let me just tell everybody I gave
Mishimi a sticker, a Toronto Mike sticker.
Can't wait to find out
where that ends up.
Mine's going on my car.
Nice. Send a picture to me.
Right beside my speeding sticker.
Oh, yes.
Now Mishimi knows what to do.
Yes, we should do.
Oh, yeah. look at us.
You guys are awesome.
And it says on this mic.
Love it.
I might never take it off.
This is fantastic.
Where's my Biff naked t-shirt?
Come on, get snake to run and get it for me.
I'll have to make some.
Oh yeah, that's those big... Yeah, they're tricky.
No, no, no, it's not the stickers.
Okay.
I haven't heard this Sarah McLachlan song in a long time.
It holds up.
Yeah, it sounds great, in the headphones especially.
Oh, that'll be good for the photo, Mish putting my sticker on her hat.
This is amazing.
Beautiful. I hope it sticks on her hat. This is amazing. Beautiful.
I hope it sticks on the hat.
Nice.
Beautiful.
Nice.
Sticker now.
Now, it's appropriate we begin the Lil' Affair countdown here from Biff Naked with some Sarah.
So talk to me, Biff.
Why Sarah McLachlan?
Well, it was Sarah that organized the whole thing.
And really, a lot of people might not know this about Sarah.
And with my apologies, of course, if I'm betraying what she, you know, is trying to convey to the world.
But really, she's a very warm and lovely person.
And she made every artist on those tours feel really special.
She invited everyone up at the end of her set every night to join in the finale in front of the big crowd
on the big stage. And so artists
like myself,
it was a dream come true
really to stand up there with Chrissy
Hine and Deborah Cox and
all these artists that I was
a massive fan of
and be on there for the finale
every single show.
Remind me, how many Live Affair tours were there?
Do you know?
There were three.
I think there were three in total.
The year that I was on was 1999.
I was on tour with the cult at the time.
And so we left our cult shows
and peppered the summer with Sarah shows.
I just played She Sells Sanctuary.
We kicked out the jams for Martin Streak.
Very nice. He opened all his live to airs with She Sells Sanctuary. We kicked out the jams for Martin Streak and he opened all his
live to airs with She Sells Sanctuary.
So I just played it. Ian is another lovely
man.
So you're handpicked by Sarah?
Is that how it worked?
That's what I believe.
That's what I believe. I think
probably all the artists were.
Everyone, you know,
I'm assuming.
I mean, she had a pretty diverse bunch of people, you know, really and truly.
I think now it would be, like I had said, I think now it would be on 100, you know.
But back then, I think it was like really well done.
Mishimi, did you ever meet Sarah McLachlan?
Not up close. No convos or stuff? Always close no no convo always in the same room always
in the same room and i admired lilith flair fair um i would just see it and see the pictures and
see the footage and the content and um i knew it wasn't ready for hip-hop like a female rapper so
i would just dream and um it wasn't only that concert. Like Lilith Fair is the truth
because it was the first festival I'd seen with all women
and representing Canada.
So let me just say that.
And you mentioned three iterations,
the final being 20 years ago this summer, I guess.
Yeah, they just went by.
20th anniversary.
Let's kick out another Lilifare jam. We'll be right back. To clear my head, to say the things I haven't said Live inside the elements, the earth and sky are my best friends
Water is the evidence that washes me from end to end
With my naked eye I saw
This falling rain coming down on me
With my naked eye I saw
If I said it all I could see
It's not a choice I tried to make, it's not a thought I couldn't take
Something told me it was time to give you yours and leave me mine
A vision started to be clear, I watched the sunlight coming near
A new day, I knew the night, I knew I couldn't gain my sight
And it feels alright
And it feels alright And it feels alright
With my naked eye I saw
The falling rain coming down on me
With my naked eye I saw
If I said it all
Okay, talk to me, Biff.
Luscious Jackson, Naked Eye.
Great jam.
Yeah, it is.
I think it's a different version, obviously.
I was actually singing to a young artist
in grade the other day.
I was saying, whenever you play a show,
you're going to play songs heavier
than what you record them as.
I mean, if you want longevity in your voice, especially as a rock singer, you're going to play songs heavier than what you record them as. I mean, you know, if you want longevity
in your voice, especially as a rock singer, you've got
to drop tune. And I mean, we love
to play things in drop D, drop C,
you know, anything that's
lower. So I'm used to hearing
this song a little bit heavier.
It's funny, I pulled it from my personal collection.
Oh! Yeah, and I never even
considered, and I've done this mistake a few times,
when Maureen Holloway was kicking out the jams
she wanted Two Princes
by
who's Two Princes by again?
One, two princes
who adore you
now go
I'm going to have to google it in a second
Spin Doctors
I just saw I had it
Spin Doctors, Two Princes and I play it I should from, I just saw I had it, Spin Doctors,
Two Princes,
and I play it.
I had it,
like I should do
a little more research
beforehand and make sure
I got the right jam.
But it was like
the Muppets version.
Oh, very funny.
The Muppets collaboration
with the Spin Doctors song.
Those are fun though.
Yeah.
Those are always fun.
And I like rare versions
of songs.
It's cool.
Yeah.
For some reason,
this is the only one
in my collection.
So you're right.
It's a little slower, right?
But it's an icon. You know, the thing about these type of bands in this era, For some reason, this is the only one in my collection. So you're right. It's a little slower, right? But so.
But it's, I can't, you know, the thing about these, these type of bands in this era, even my own songs from that era, it was a weird time for, for women in music in a way, in
just the regular genre of like mainstream chick sung music, like the Pacific Northwest
where I was living at the time i mean
it was nuts you know it was nuts bikini kill was nuts the whole poll was nuts it was all it was
going nuts and um and yeah i don't know i think that again i have to reference gwen and no doubt
and bands like that were were really taken off but you, we loved L7 and we loved the Lunachicks.
Heavy as bricks, right? That was the L7.
Yeah, and it was like, you know, they were like not making any apologies.
And there was something that was kind of empowering in that
because, you know, a lot of younger girls who felt, for whatever reason,
that because you know a lot of younger girls who felt for whatever reason alienated or isolated or you know hormones and and kids who are adolescents are going to amplify any feelings you have so
being able to identify with these kind of angsty singers that kind of seemed like they were
apathetic to the beauty standard was really cool you know it's almost surprising
you were ever on lily fair because of how hard you rock like it is kind of well i want you to
know that usa today called me porno heidi and i was very proud of that that should have been a tattoo
i thought that was the cat's pajamas you know and i think it was because we were all in
half tops you know it was hot you know but if you bang your head around and you have long hair you're
gonna eat your hair when you sing so we used to put it in ponytails or braids on those outdoor
summer stages and yeah porno heidi i was like that is the coolest thing i've ever heard i'm like that
is so cool you know there was no way we were ever going to be slut shamed.
And this was long before not being slut shamed was popular, you know.
And that was part of the whole Riot Grrrl attitude.
And it was like, I don't know.
For us, it just really helped us have confidence.
Now I think it's all funny.
But at the time, we took it very serious.
We were very serious
when we were young women.
But this jam I'm going to play now
is something,
when I look back at Lilith Fair,
and I didn't actually attend,
I saw the documentary at TIFF though.
They made a Lilith Fair documentary.
Oh, they did?
I saw the premiere at TIFF.
Of course.
This is many moons ago.
But here's a song I would think of
when I think of Lilith Fair.
Now, this Sean Colvin song always makes me cry.
Do it.
I cried when I was here last time with you, too.
I have that effect on people. The thing about Sean Colvin is
when this song came out, I think
she was probably
I'm going to just guess. I apologize
to Sean if I'm totally
incorrect here. I think she was like around
40 and at the time I was a lot younger
and I remember hearing
this was a big hit for her
and it gave me so much
hope as a songwriter, as a young woman,
because I thought, man, she is like 10, 15 years older than me,
and she's finding her hits now.
And I thought, I am never going to quit,
because it gave me so much hope.
And there's little as rare as appearing on the top 40 after the age of 40 like this is uh
amazing and it's a beautiful song for sure for sure but then and that's why i talked about ageism
earlier because there's definitely something going on in these billboard charts etc where uh
yeah if you're if 40 year olds just don'tolds just don't chart for some reason.
Well, again, I think that that really depends on the genre.
I mean, if you look at, even in country music,
I'm pretty confident that no one's going to tell Emmylou Harris
that she can't have a hit song, I'm sorry, or whatever the case.
I think that there is a bit of you know
with particular artists
they get more regal
in certain genres
the older they get
as a country in reggae
yeah
yes
and in reggae
absolutely
you know
there's a real
they're the queens
no that's a great
great point
because I'm
talking about
yeah
the hot 100
but yeah
you're right
I remember Cher had her hit with Believe right that's right because I'm talking about, yeah, the Hot 100. But yeah, you're right.
I remember Cher had her hit with Believe, right?
That's right.
I mean, we're going back now.
It's probably 20 years ago itself.
I'm going to dress like her one day.
I want to go on a plane.
Listen right now.
I want to go on a plane and wear my gaunch.
Oh, I think it was like... Gaunch over the fishnets.
An aircraft carrier, I think.
It was like a boat.
Hey, I'm in.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
How fun.
I can see you there because you're like into law and order.
So I feel like you'd be a military.
Right?
Yes, I can see that.
Good fit.
Good fit.
For sure.
She's putting stickers on everything.
Mishy Mee, when you're driving on the highway, do you drive?
Yes, I do.
Let's say you're on the QEW.
And let's say the posted speed limit is 100.
100 kilometers an hour is the posted speed limit.
This is a trick question.
It's not a trick question.
I need honesty from you.
Typically, if there's not a lot of traffic, how fast do you drive in?
Oh.
90.
No.
No. Don't believe me. No, no, no no safety first safety first be honest precious cargo
precious cargo you know what because didn't i just tell you recovering from an accident even worse
would be anxiety and uh yes so prior to that i was already like uh-uh i'm not a speeder i'm not
a speed i like to go thank you thank you maybe that's why I like you both so much
you adhere to the
letter of the law
easy going
how bad was this
car accident
am I allowed to pry
I can pry it up
twice right
I know
so would you
give a bit of detail
no
it just you know
it hurt
and yeah
but what part
did it hurt
like back
or
well back yeah still
and the concussion
in itself is it's a
journey oh absolutely and people don't and also the medical system is a journey yes and it's a
process so just um i think i'm just glad i'm all through it and ready to drop a record we're two
years two years to go yeah two years i've seen you live recently and you were great on stage it
took a time it took time to get back right yeah it took time to get back the Yeah, it took time to get back. It's a process.
Yeah, I think that's why it's coming up.
And I haven't really talked about it
and started talking about music even.
So just being here,
I think it's still right there.
And you talked about speed.
Right, I did talk about speed.
Because I thought for sure
you would be driving at least 110 on that.
Cruise or call my sis.
It's hard with head injuries. So so there's can i tell the people
there's a person on the stairs so so snake is here still snake snake uh we bumped him back a
bit so that mishy me could come in uh and then who is sitting on my stairs can we give a shout out
my my good friend and she's my homie and she makes sure i get there on time
she's not your driver she's a friend no she's my homie and she makes sure I get there on time. She's not your driver.
She's a friend.
No,
she's not what she drives.
No,
you don't ever call anybody that.
Yeah.
No,
I mean,
I live on here and she's right here.
That was my bad,
bad attempt at humor.
I am never good at that.
It happens.
No,
she's good.
I tease her too.
And everyone sees her when we're ready,
but she really just looks out for when I got to get to somewhere and surprise
somebody.
And I didn't want to miss it. I didn't want somewhere and surprise somebody. And I didn't want to miss it.
I didn't want to miss it.
Yeah, I didn't want to miss it.
So she's just, you know.
Thank you.
I'm here.
The best.
This is like the best.
I just really want to,
I'm tired of tweeting
and stalking her tweets.
And so I didn't.
Well, you know what I'm hoping.
You hinted and I was like,
can the door be left open?
But I've been hint, yes.
And I was,
are you kidding me?
Made my day.
And I hinted on Twitter
something was happening today, but I didn't, I never gave it away. and I was kidding me made my day and I hinted on Twitter something was
happening today but I didn't I never gave it away
like I was very cryptic but
I've been hinting at this
I can hear it in my head like if I'm biking
I can hear it it's there there's a
Biff naked Mishy me collaboration
like God bless honestly I hear it
I just I mean what more do I have to do
do I have to like I mean this is
this is not a music recording studio what more do I have to do to make this happen like what do I have to do? Do I have to, like, I mean, this is not a music recording studio.
What more do I have to do to make this happen?
Like, what do I have to do?
Tell me what to do.
We got a guitar guy in the room, too.
Like, how do I make this happen?
I know I'm putting you on the spot here.
You're very kind.
I need this.
I was like, I'm not going to do this to you.
I'm doing it.
Don't miss me whenever.
She's nice.
I'm the asshole. How do I make it happen? I know do i make it happen tell me what i have to do we're
here i know i need you guys uh write something together and i could hear it like because the
the hard rock and you we've already heard you do the ragged death stuff like the the i have
a level with you i always get asked to on on twitter because i do stalk you in inbox so it's
it's it and it can the canadian thing
is just like oh my god when genres get together people love you biff and they know that i even
tried and attempted and did that ragged death and that was so good though i love doing this
and there's even rock stuff i ventured back in on this album and dropped a couple amazing i can't
wait to hear it but you are just when you when you're ready. Anytime you're ready. If not, I would just always be in the corner.
I'll broker this deal.
Look out, you crazy kids.
Look out, you crazy kids.
Balls in your corpus.
You don't even know what's happening.
You see her voice?
That.
That.
I'm in the presence of greatness.
You're actually the girl wolf in GI.
That.
That.
We played Mishy Mee's Thank You at the beginning of this program.
Here's another thank you at the beginning of this program here's another thank you My tea's gone cold, I'm wondering why I got out of bed at all
The morning rain clouds up my window
And I can't see at all
And even if I could
It'd all be gray
But your picture on my wall
It reminds me that it's not so bad
It's not so bad
I keep waiting for Eminem to come in.
I was just going to say, this song was hell.
And I keep hearing him go, ah!
Drank too much last night
Good songwriting.
Yeah, it is.
It's funny how your brain fills in the gaps.
Like, I'm hearing now Eminem's in my head right now.
It's Dido.
It took me minutes.
Yeah, Dido.
It took me minutes. I won't do my Eminem. in my head right now. It's Dido. It took me minutes. Yeah, Dido. It took me minutes.
I won't do my Eminem.
I saw this tour.
So he opened for Limp Bizkit.
And I saw them at the Dome.
That dates this whole thing, right?
Limp Bizkit and everything.
And they opened for Raggedy in the UK.
Really?
Wow.
Yeah.
That's where it started.
Wow.
That's before they started.
The guitar player wanted to
back in the traffic.
So why this
wonderful Diddy from Dido?
I don't think anyone can name a second Dido song.
I mean, not anyone. Well, you know, I think it was
indicative of an era. The song is
you know, there's certain songs that
we can all hear that are so recognizable
that take you right back to that
year. i don't
know what it was 98 99 this came out i'm not sure i don't know what what your eminem then used it or
if he so i saw them in tour i saw him do this song because this part dido wasn't there so i think it's
a recording for her part when he did it a sample yeah 2000 that was 2000 at the Dome. Amazing. And it's, you know, stuff like this is so sparse and lilting and great melody.
It's great to sample, actually.
It's made for it.
And it brought it to such a bigger audience because it was just like, she's British, right?
We won't hold it against her.
That's all good.
But this song, I don't think, was a monster hit in North America.
Like, I think it was a uh the
sample made it like uh where we're all singing along now because of eminem but again it depends
on what genre of music you're into right i mean there's things that you know weren't hits that
people know i don't know oh for sure everything i love is not a hit that's uh it seems like uh
that's how it works if i like it it's not a hit so's uh it seems like uh that's how it works yeah if i like it it's not the name
of the document so i can borrow this hook and call you see and then do my anyway has to go down then
she's just awesome it's going down i mean the maestro had that hit with the uh guess who sample
uh these eyes right that's right that Yes. Oh, stick to your vision.
It works.
It works.
Okay, I'm looking forward to this.
I just want a liner note credit
because you know what?
I read the liner notes.
Okay?
You should be an agent.
Who knows what the future holds for me?
I'm into a whole bunch of new things now.
You should be in television too.
You don't play Mike.
Do I need a haircut?
That's putting me on the spot too, but...
You want a haircut.
That's the point.
I don't think I want one right now.
Then you don't need one.
Thank you.
Thank you, Misha.
Just so you know, Snake can cut your hair.
He's got clippers.
I'm surprised Snake's hair is so short.
He does it himself.
Okay, so I know where to go when it's time to lose the mop top.
Good to know.
Mimico is really close.
All right, another jam. lose the mop top. Good to know. Mimico's really close.
Alright, another jam. Here I go, here I come on the run I'm putting in the hardest work, cause it's like a fun Depending on the Holy Spirit, Father and the Son
And I'ma give them all I got until my life is done
Here I go, here I come
Here I go, here I come
Here I go, here I come
Here I go
I woke up in a cold sweat
Had a nightmare that the devil sent a cold threat
Now Lord help me, I ain't made 20 years old yet
Living in fear, living here, living hopeless
With every day of my life in distress now
Trying to figure out the best route you left out
I feed off the positive and I let the rest out
And avoid the last resort, chest out
Cause they never really know what you're going through
They see no accomplishments, smiling it compliments you
Creep behind your back and spy instead of talking to you
And lie about what you're doing instead of asking you
What them bastards do is terrible, I'm telling you Joe
It's real and y'all can't understand do is terrible, I'm telling you, Joe.
It's real and y'all can't understand how I feel.
Unless I let you know, unless I let it go, for sure.
But I don't wanna, I wanna do what's right.
And keep God up in my corner, in my right, in the right.
Here I go, here I come, on the run.
Putting in the hardest work, cause this ain't for fun.
Depending on the Holy Spirit, Father and the Son Son And I'm gonna give them all I got
Until my life is done
Here I go
Here I come
Here I go
Here I come
Here I go
Here I come
Here I go
Infamous Syndicate
Here I go
The video is nuts for this song Infamous Syndicate, here I go. The video is nuts for this song.
Infamous Syndicate, do you remember them?
In their video, her eyes were rolling.
It was creepy, you know, like Halloween.
There were so many innovative things that were going on in music at this time.
I think that this predates some of the creepier bands.
The video was like, her eyes were rolled back in her head,
like white, like zombie.
It was just like, I don't know.
I thought it was a good addition to the Lilith Fierro roster.
And again, there were a lot of bands.
Do you like this one, Mishy?
Yes.
Do I remember it?
Not to that extent.
But yeah, because there was so much
you know there was
East Coast, West Coast
there was so many
you were right up there
in Vancouver
so this was like
right on your
radio radar
where out here
it didn't really
you know
resonate with something
that I remember right now
to that right
no I mean
I can speak for the
the six here
and say that
I don't think this got
a lot of much music
airplay
even though the video was amazing there that I don't think this got a lot of much music airplay even though the video
was amazing.
It was an American band, right?
There were a lot
of American acts
on the Lilith Fair dates
and different markets
that we played
there were different bands on.
Houston, Atlanta
they were just like
way different bands.
You know who's featured
on this song?
Buddy Guy.
Yes.
Yes. Which is a fun fact for everybody. Yes, it is a good fact.? Buddy Guy. Yes. Yes.
Which is a fun fact for everybody.
Yes, it is a good fact.
Very good fact.
That's right.
Infamous Syndicate.
All right.
I'm queuing up the next jam here.
We're going right into it. Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, Yeah. My.
Restroom.
What?
It's after midnight and she's on your phone.
They ain't come over cause she's all alone. Good night. Tell me, what is it that she needs? Does she hear about the brand new things that you just bought for me?
Cause y'all didn't have no kids, didn't share no mutual friends.
And you told me that she's your trick when y'all broke up in 96.
What you gonna do when you can't say no?
And I feel like I'm about to show a boy I really need to know.
And how you gonna act?
How you gonna handle that?
What you gonna do when she wants you back? I wanted a photobomb, Matt. Case of the X
In parentheses
What you gonna do?
That's right
Maya?
Such a nice girl
Tell me about Maya
You know, there were
So there were a few of us
That were on different
We weren't all on the main stage
And so Maya was one of the other artists So there were a few of us that were on different, we weren't all on the main stage.
And so Maya was one of the other artists that we were always kind of paired with.
And we had such a, it was such a fun summer.
It was fun.
She's just such a lovely person.
Now, when you do shows in Canada, do you get bumped to the big stage?
And then if you're, because you're far, you're famous in the world, internationally famous. But here you're like, you know, you're a punk rock princess.
Well, it really depends on the tour.
In Canada, you know, I'm very lucky.
The first tour I ever did here was 1989.
And so kind of being able to cut my teeth.
Yeah.
The math's not working for me.
I think, okay.
Yeah.
It was a long time ago.
I mean, I started when I was, you know,
probably not old enough to be in most of the bars in the country.
But ultimately, that's all I know as an adult.
It's the only job I've ever had.
And so, you know, now I can kind of, you know,
I'm lucky that I can play in some of the clubs
that I dreamt of playing when I was a kid
and some of the bigger venues.
We love doing festivals in the summer because it's always fun.
But we also found the same thing was true for places like Germany and Spain.
I don't know.
The only places I have not been yet is South America and Asia.
It's not too late.
No.
Launching a tour.
That's exactly right
yeah
when I put together
this festival
I'm dreaming up
in my head right now
we're gonna hit up
for sure South America
very good
yeah
Buenos Aires is
one of the cities
that we should all go to
consider it done
coming
is that a business expense
I gotta figure out
of course
you can get funding
you can get funding
I gotta call Caperia and figure out. Of course, you can get funding. You can get funding. I've got to call cafeteria
and figure out
how to finance
this whole thing.
Absolutely.
I'm only half joking.
It can happen.
Just FYI.
I've got a million things
right now.
I'm having this,
I don't know,
you guys are artists.
You must get this all the time.
Like a surge of creative stuff
that just sort of
flushes out you once
and you have to kind of
compartmentalize it all
and process it all.
Absolutely.
Yeah, and that must be your life every day. i only get to experience it once in a blue moon
but the thing about creating art is art is now free you know so um i don't really feel as bad
for us musicians as i do for say for example photographers or visual artists you know anyone
can just screenshot their their, their life's work,
and just like share it around, not paid for.
So, I mean, with music, you know, our music is more accessible.
But the only revenue source is butts in chairs.
When's your next, speaking of butts in chairs,
when's your next concert?
We're probably going to do some stuff in the fall.
We did an acoustic show in july in a big theater
in hamilton and um yeah we did our festival tours across the country and this fall we're just
finalizing our record mixes and i'm finished a book of poetry and i'm just finishing my cancer
book what's tell us what the cancer book what is this this is a book you wrote about your uh it's
a book that i've been working on for a couple of years.
It takes a lot of research.
I'm not much for sitting still.
And it's a long process.
And I wanted to basically chronicle stories
and shared experiences about, I guess, coping techniques.
Basically, it's my guide to how to survive
surviving cancer.
Amazing.
Good chance for me to tell everybody that I'm
running the Terry Fox Run on Sunday.
Oh, very cool. I'm doing it in Hyde Park.
The 15th of September.
So my target for this was $1,000,
which I hit the target. Now I'm thinking
I guess I should up the target.
Just to give people incentive.
So go to torontomike.com and click at the very top it says Terry Fox Run. which I hit the target. Now I'm thinking, I guess I should up the target just to give people incentive.
Sure, that's great.
So go to torontomic.com and click at the very top.
It says Terry Fox Run.
Just click that
and then give what you can.
It's a good cause
and you get a tax receipt
and everything.
So yeah.
And how is your health right now, Biff?
You look fantastic.
God bless.
And I'm hoping you are fantastic.
You know, but like anybody and
i'm sure that you can say the same thing even with a head injury for example when she was talking
about performing even for myself when you survive cancer when you come back out of treatment for
cancer like i remember shows like like five years after doing shows there were certain times if I jump up and down hard enough,
honestly, the lymph nodes around my jaw would swell and I would literally almost black out on stage
just from jumping.
So I know for sure that coming back
from a cancer experience,
people kind of expect you to be better
once you look better.
And like a head injury, these are hidden side effects.
They're residual things that happen for years after
that people don't understand, that it's hard to explain.
No offense to GPs, but sometimes it's just really hard
to get the support, like anything that's hidden,
whether it's mental illness, Lyme disease.
There's so many different things.
And I don't
know, I think that we can all look great and be active and seem like we're 100%, even though I
can assure you that I always am. But you know, I just think that there's always something hidden
for people. And I think it's always good to remember that.
For sure. And Mish, I'm really digging the design of this T-shirt.
I was just checking it out on Biff.
I like it.
On this mic,
Mishy me.
So thank you
for the T-shirt.
Yes.
If I didn't say that already.
You're very welcome.
And the book comes out
in time for when?
For the holiday season?
When does this book come out?
From your mouth to God's ears.
I think my cancer book
will probably be out next year
but my book of poetry
is finished.
And the book of poetry
is the ideal of whatever you celebrate but many you might celebrate. For example, Christmas a lot of people my cancer book will probably be out next year but my book of poetry is finished so I'll keep you tuned.
is the ideal of whatever you celebrate
but many you might celebrate.
For example,
Christmas,
a lot of people celebrate.
People do.
This would be a fantastic
Christmas gift.
Biff's,
does it have a title
or is it just called
Biff's Book of Poetry?
Oh, well,
usually I get kiboshed
on my titles.
They're usually quite dirty
so we're still negotiating
what that'll be,
what'll be tolerated.
Right.
Here is another
Lilith Fair jam. When I first saw you, I already knew
There was something inside of you
Something I thought that I would never find
angel
of mine
I look at you
looking at me
now I know why they say
the best things are free
I'm gonna
love you boy you are so fine.
Angel of mine.
How you changed my world, you'll never know.
I'm different now, you helped me grow.
Came into my life, save me from my blood
I'm the hope, you show me love
I'm shaking for you, for you right on time
Angel of mine Nothing means more to me than what we share
No one that's so well can ever compare
It's like the way you move is still on my mind
Angel of mine I'm witnessing the exciting moment here.
But you don't have any cards, do you?
I made them.
But I have her email address.
I could share.
But my cards are pink.
I want the cards.
That's the point.
This is how the collaboration begins.
Beth gives this card to Mish.
I'm witnessing all this.
I'm going to watch it through.
I'm going to follow through.
What is my purpose in this world
except to bring you guys together creatively?
To make magic.
Is this Monica or Brandy?
Which one does
Monica? I get them
confused because they had that
The Boy is Mine, right?
Which I think was number one for like a hundred years.
Yay! Okay.
Oh, do I get one? Yeah, of course. Are you kidding me?
Oh, it is pink.
Oh, I love it.
And this, I think it was this summer
that Monica was on the tour and she got engaged. I could be wrong. Monica, please correct me if I love it. And this, I think it was this summer that Monica was on the tour,
and she got engaged.
I could be wrong.
Monica, please correct me if I'm wrong.
But it was the biggest diamond I've ever seen in my life on a girl.
And we were young, and of course, on our porno Heidi bus,
as it were, with our Marshall.
And she was just like a vision like a vision just the most
beautiful woman in like the most beautiful sweet clothes and there's like so pulled together so
glamorous and the most big ring on her beautiful hands it was like oh my we were just in awe of
some of these artists like and there's a there's's a bit of a feeling that we didn't deserve to be there.
And I think that permeates a lot of women in our careers,
whatever it is, whether you're a dishwasher at the hospital
or whether you work in a gas station
or whether you're on Willis Fair.
Listen, this is her at the height of her powers, I believe, right?
Like Angel of Mine was a monster hit,
and that one I mentioned with Brandy, huge hit.
So, yeah, it's kind of amazing you got to do that, Monica.
I'm going to advance to song number...
This is song number eight on Biff's Countdown.
Some CanCon for us.
Got to bring it in there.
Still a great jam. You get here, nobody's supposed to be here
I've tried that nothing for the last time
My heart said no, no
Nobody's supposed to be here
I'm hoping Mishy will sing along to this thing.
Come on.
There's a mic right in front of you.
I know myself.
No lip syncing to this one.
Please tell me Deborah Cox is a lovely person. A lovely, lovely person.
So sweet.
So warm and friendly and nice and kind.
But also, of course, Canadian girl.
That's a good point.
But we do have a few assholes in our mix.
I've never met any.
I've never met any.
The assholes are not Biff Naked fans.
And Mishy's digging this one too.
Do you know Debra?
You must have crossed paths with Debra Cox
once or twice in your journeys.
Yes, indeed.
I love Debra Cox.
Where is she living?
Do we know where she is here?
Is she living in LA or something?
Do we know where Debra is?
Call in Debra Cox if you do.
Reach out to me, Debra,
on Twitter.
I'm at Toronto Mike.
Songs like this
make me want to join a choir.
I just want to join a choir.
It was sad.
Like,
every,
it's a moment.
Every pocket.
I really like this.
Yes.
And she was on this tour
and
99, right?
So, okay.
Yeah.
Big deal.
Big deal.
Deborah Cox.
I feel like there's a fun fact.
I can't pull it out of my head right now.
But there's a fun fact with regards to who this song was written for.
Oh, I don't know that.
I know.
I've never heard that. I think it was written for. Oh, I don't know that. I know. I've never heard that.
I think it was written for somebody else turned it down, I think.
Somebody with a higher profile.
Interesting.
And then Deborah Cox.
There's a million stories like that in the music business.
There's a million stories like that.
Key change.
Wow.
It's such a great version, too.
Most people are familiar with the dance version. My heart said no, no, no, no Nobody's supposed to be here
But you came along and you changed my mind
How did you get here?
I'm not supposed to love
Nobody's supposed to be here I'm not supposed to care anymore Wow. Is it hot in here or is it just you guys?
Amazing.
Now this is completely different because we're going to kick out the ninth jam and it sounds a little a little different but still great marianne and wanda were the best of friends All through their high school days
Both members of the 4-H club
Both active in the FFA
After graduation
Marianne went out
Looking for a bright new world
Wanda looked all around
I always wanted this to be a punk rock song.
You can make that happen.
If you speed this up, it's actually a perfect punk rock song. dark glasses, long-sleeved blouses, and makeup to cover her bruise.
Well, she finally got the nerve to file for divorce.
She let the law take it from there.
But Earl walked right through that restraining order and put her in intensive care.
in intensive care right away
Mary Ann
flew in from Atlanta
on a red-eye midnight flight
she held Wanda's hand
and they worked out a plan
and it didn't take them long
to decide
that Earl had to die
goodbye
Earl so I got peas That Earl had to die. Goodbye, Earl.
No spaghet, please.
You tasted all right to me.
Oh, yeah.
Great punk rock song.
Goodbye, Earl.
Dixie Chicks.
That's right.
And this was in, so 99, the Dixie Chicks were really exploding.
And Irving Plaza was where I met them.
Because what Sarah did is she had a press conference in every city that they were performing in.
And she would invite all the artists to the morning press conference
so that all the artists had an opportunity to answer questions from the local media.
And yeah, the Dixie Chicks were quite famous at this point
and really on a rising trajectory in the country arts.
And they were amazing.
And this song, really, the video was depicting domestic abuse and domestic violence.
And at that time, I think for country music,
I think it was probably pretty groundbreaking.
You know what sucks, though,
and I get angry when I think about it,
but a fantastic trio like this
could get cancelled by the fan base
because of saying they were glad
George W. Bush was not from...
They were embarrassed that he was from Texas.
Do you remember this one line?
I do remember it. Think about that for a minute.xas do you remember this one line i do remember
think about that for a minute like digest that that's the line that gets a great band canceled
that's some bullshit right there yeah it happens all the time when bands get political they were
a male trio would that have happened if they were three guys doing country well it's hard to say i
don't i don't really know for sure. I mean, yeah, hard to say.
I don't know that a male group would have probably said anything.
I don't know.
Pisses me off because think about what it takes to get Canada.
I mean, anyways, that's ridiculous.
Anyway, they're fantastic, Dixie Chicks.
And there was a period where they could still, you know,
sell out their Canada Centre here,
but they couldn't really tour their own country because of that.
Now things are different in America,
and you are basically allowed to talk smack about your president now,
and most bands actually do, probably.
So in a way, they've come a long way in that regard.
But, you know,
throughout history,
music has always been
protest music.
Of course, yeah.
Bob Dylan, yeah, yeah.
Sure.
So the fact that
the Dixie Chicks were kind of,
you know, again,
it was their fan base.
Country,
it's a very Republican,
conservative fan base.
I don't know if that's true anymore.
Look at how careful,
I think, okay, maybe not as much. I'm not sure.
I think that in Canada anyway,
I think the country music scene and fan base
and the music industry for country music
is actually thriving.
Like, it's quite healthy.
How come this Toronto market,
the biggest market in the entire country,
does not have a country music station?
I think they probably do. Do they? country music station. I think they probably do.
Do they?
Probably.
I think they probably do.
We just don't know.
Or maybe I'll look it up.
How are they keeping this a secret?
I'm sure they must.
I'm sure they must have one.
It's quite a massive market.
So I'm like...
No country music station.
They probably do.
They probably do.
Don't at me.
Don't at Biff. She's new here. She's from Vancouver. They probably do. Don't at me.
Don't at Biff.
She's new here.
She's from Vancouver.
Okay, we'll cut her some slack, please.
All right, one more jam to go by one of my favorite artists of all time.
So I'm very excited to play this.
You ready, Mish?
Final jam?
Hit it. I'm going to go. 2.30pm I jumped off the welfare wagon
To meet you for lunch
You sit like a top princess
Cold and captivating
You divulge your latest secrets
So sinister, I cannot repeat
From my eyes flows glacial water
From my soul's sake of sanity
I died eating bread and rice
In the restaurant on the corner
Where I broke my heart
I cried cause I bit my tongue I have to laugh.
I just laugh at my lyrics.
I died eating French fries on the restaurant,
in the restaurant on the corner where you broke my heart.
And you wrote that yourself.
Of course.
I remember who it was about.
I remember the restaurant.
I remember exactly that I thought that he was sitting in the restaurant
like a Thai princess.
And I had gotten off the bus.
It was 2.30 p.m.
Autobiographical.
Every song.
So the overall, your synopsis of the Litha Fair experience you enjoyed 20 years ago.
All positive?
All good?
PMA every day, hooray.
Of course.
I'm like, it was all positive.
All good.
Why don't you take the baton obviously Sarah's busy with other things
it's too much to complicate why don't you take the baton
and see if we can do some kind of
Canadian
Lilith Fair-ish
thing as long as it's got you two
and Sky Wallace and Strange Green
we'll probably call it something different
but yeah definitely
we have to look at things like the Canada Council for the Arts,
maybe a little peppering of...
Do you do your own paperwork or do you have somebody doing all that?
That sounds like a lot of bureaucratic...
Well, it's a lot.
Yeah, and it's always been a lot.
But I mean, what can I say?
I think that any self-employed artist knows that it's like,
good thing that you
can recommend an accountant for us.
I was just thinking he might have some
ideas for you ladies
in these new ventures.
That's right. Stay tuned.
And Mishimi, when does the new album
drop? Do you got a date for that?
This fall. We won't release a date right now, but it's just
going to drop. No, I want the exclusive here.
Very nice. You know she knows the date. She's just not supposed just going to drop. No, I want the exclusive here. Let's hear that date. Very nice.
You know she knows the date.
She's just not supposed to say it yet.
This fall narrows it down.
So there's a book of poetry coming out.
There's a new Mishy Me album coming out.
And then in 2020, we're going to have a collaboration with Biff Naked and Mishy Me.
From your mouth to God's ears.
Woo!
Oh, Canada.
I can't believe that Mishimi crashed our party.
That was an unbelievable moment.
Best part of the day.
Best part of the week.
The month.
The year.
Thank you for letting me in and not kicking me out.
I didn't even expect to stay this long, but it's been fun, and I've learned a lot. Awesome.
Haven't you learned that I don't let people leave until I'm done with them?
That's why Snake's here.
He's like the security.
He goes, you cannot leave.
You can check in anytime you want, but you can never, ever leave.
And that brings us to the end of our 510th show.
You can follow me on Twitter.
I'm at Toronto Mike.
Biff, you're at Biff Naked?
