I'm Mike.
I'm Mike. From torontomike.com and joining me this week for our 72nd Pandemic Friday is Cam Gordon and Stu Stone.
Yes.
What number?
70?
72.
72.
Wow.
Carlton Fisk.
This is kind of like a rehearsal in a lot of ways, Mike and Cam.
For what?
A rehearsal for the finale because I'm not going to be on the show next week.
So. That's right.
This is like a rehearsal of what it's like to have Stu
and then not have Stu in your life.
And you're going to see.
You guys are going to see pretty quickly.
You're going to miss me.
The void.
I'm going to miss you when you're gone.
Yeah.
That's how the song goes.
Oh, I am going to miss you, I'm sure,
but not right away.
It's going to take a little while, I think.
Time makes the... I already miss you. I mean sure, but not right away. It's going to take a little while, I think. Time makes the...
I already miss you.
I mean, in my mind, we're already not friends.
It's over.
When, Stu, hang in there for four more weeks after this one,
but when do you fly to L.A. for your big movie premiere?
On Sunday.
Sunday.
And let me just do the math in my head.
So Sunday you fly, and what day is the big preview?
Tuesday.
Tuesday.
And what day do you fly back?
I think the 5th or the 6th.
The 5th or the 6th.
It goes like this, the 4th, the 5th.
I know, but you guys already have a thing, so just do it.
Yeah, we do have a thing.
Yeah, fuck it.
I'm going to listen to the show.
Can you actually describe what the –
I don't think we've strictly defined what this event is you're going to.
This is like a premiere, like an LA premiere.
There's a website that's called Dread Central.
They're a horror website.
And they're hosting.
You can crack it on the mic.
Right.
Too late.
Cam Gordon just opened a Canuck Pale Ale.
You think he's done this 72 times.
I'm talking, of course, about the David Kynes film, Faking a Murderer.
Is that how it's being billed?
It is now.
It's coming out in America on August
the 6th as you guys all know.
You've been liking my tweets but on August 6th
I expect to see some tweets.
CC everybody.
The vast majority of my followers are Canadians.
I know but still the optics are there.
It's coming out on August 6th.
So on August 3rd, Dread Central is hosting an outdoor screening of the film.
Oh.
And I'm going, Adam Rodness is going, and David Stoner, if you've seen the film, David Stoner is going to be joining us.
He's the villain?
He might be.
Okay.
Spoiler alert. Spoiler.
Yeah, be careful.
Watch out for him.
I'm excited to hear how it goes
So next week
For the listeners
Stu's not here in the backyard
But Cam is here
And Ben Rayner
Will stroll over and take Stu's spot
As much as I love Stu
I'm very excited
I love Ben too, who doesn't
Now let's just get something clear
If I do end up coming home on the 5th,
you know what I might do, Mike? I might just
take a drive down and listen to the show
live from Kingston.
Maybe I'll go to Kingston. Don't worry.
We're getting there. I need an update. Maybe I'll just go there.
Maybe Stu should be the surprise
secret zoomer who comes in
and drops the jam.
Let's just say Southern
Ontario radio personalities could be joining us.
Yes.
I didn't even realize that Kingston was east of Toronto.
I just learned that because-
Are you being serious?
I just was driving east and I saw signs for Kingston.
But you've never done the drive to Ottawa?
I guess I have, but I just didn't pay attention.
Wow.
That's amazing.
Yeah.
Because, yeah, it's like right between like Montreal and Toronto.
Yeah, it's right there.
Home of Confederation.
I can't wait to be there.
Maybe he was in L.A. for those.
Those Kingston years.
Okay, so lots to cover here.
Again, we have a secret special guest who's going to kick off the first jam.
And the topic today is Canadian hip hop.
Oh, my goodness.
This was tough.
This was tough.
And you only get the four jams.
You know what?
I purposely left stuff to you guys.
Like I played a little chess here and I'm hoping you guys didn't fuck this up.
But there's artists that I wanted to play, but I figured these guys will for sure play that, right?
I think it's all going to come together.
I can't do all the heavy.
I did a bit of that too.
The special guest is going to be kicking out a jam too.
So we'll be hearing four times three plus one.
We'll be hearing 13 unique Canadian hip hop jams.
That's so cool.
By 13 unique artists.
I have some guesses who this special guest is going to be based on your FOTM.
Oh, I just played.
I went to my daughter's soccer.
So my wife is there and my brother was there.
He walked over to watch the soccer.
Was that a good match?
He loves Pandemic Fridays.
Hello to Steve.
Oh, Steve. Five-year-old girl soccer is something special. Is it great? Cute as a button. Aw the soccer. Is that a good match? He loves Pandemic Fridays. Hello to Steve. Oh, Steve.
Five-year-old girl soccer is something special.
Is it great?
Cute as a button.
Awful soccer.
Low quality.
A lot of goals?
Competition?
Not a lot of goals.
I don't know.
Bet the under?
Always bet the under.
I'm Bodog.
But as bad as the offense is, the goal tending might be worse.
So it's really, you know, if we can get a shot at that.
It's not exactly a Craig force.
But they were playing the game
because they know it's going to be an FOTM.
I tip my hat.
This is always an FOTM who's a surprise.
What FOTM would be good for the Canadian hip hop?
And there's several candidates.
There's a few.
So we'll see who it is.
Can I get a plug in real quick?
Do we have time?
Yeah, do a plug
and then I'm going to ask you about Kingston.
Such a quick plug?
Yeah, go ahead.
Basically, a cable guy, Jeff, my buddy, he quick plug. Yeah, go ahead. Basically a cable guy,
Jeff,
my buddy,
he's actually in your,
in the chat right now.
Cable guy,
Jeff,
he released a film on the 27th of July that just,
uh, you know,
he put it out,
uh,
on,
uh,
the links are all on his social media.
Okay,
cool.
But,
uh,
it's like a,
a full sort of look back at,
you know,
I used to have a band and we were playing back in 20 years ago.
We were playing up and down the Sunset Strip.
He has all this incredible footage.
Is this the Stone Movement?
Yes.
Oh, my God.
This is the Cambrio movie.
It could be Canadian hip-hop, right?
I think it qualifies, yeah.
Because you're Canadian.
It takes a few boxes.
You were rapping.
But I urge you guys to check it out because it shows a different side.
Now you're fishing where the fish are.
The FOSs are all on the line right now.
The Prince of Sheryl Sandberg.
But yeah, it's a great movie,
and it's getting rave reviews.
Rave reviews.
Your mom liked it?
Everybody that I know liked it.
Is your mom in the live chat?
I mean, is she watching?
I don't know if she's watching.
Is it Auntie Sandy?
I wish.
Yeah, legend.
Wonky Wi-Fi over there.
Okay, a couple of quick notes.
So one is that today is my daughter's birthday.
Happy birthday.
Happy 17th birthday to my sweet Michelle, who I love with all my heart.
Sweet Michelle.
Is it Michelle's 17th birthday?
Yeah, today.
Is it her shy 17?
Is that what they call it?
I guess.
Are you going to have a party for her?
A quinceanera or something?
Yeah, we're going to have a party for her.
We did something yesterday, and we're going to do something a little bigger coming soon.
She's out with her girl. Is that at the park?
Like beers? Great Lakes?
It's going to be right here, man.
Wine coolers. But she's out
with her friends tonight.
Where'd they go? Someone's house
I think. They're having a good time
I hope. Sounds fun. So happy birthday
Michelle. After tonight. Is she a
listener? Not too much but she did
listen to some of the Billy Newton Davis episodes.
Oh, well, there you go.
She was very, I think, embarrassed and happily embarrassed, I think.
I don't know if that's a thing you can be.
Maybe there's a German word for it.
But when he complimented my laugh, she seemed kind of like she loved it,
but at the same time, she was a little shy about it.
I don't know how to describe this reaction.
Because Billy Newton Davis enjoyed my laugh. Yeah. Loved it, but at the same time, she was a little shy about it. I don't know how to describe this reaction,
because Billy Newton Davis enjoyed my laugh.
Yeah.
You never say nice things about my laugh.
Well, I would say her dad spent years inviting retired radio personalities to his basement, I think.
Sorry, sorry.
You mean future radio personalities.
Future and past.
So this is the 72nd Pandemic Friday,
and there's only
Four more left after this
Three with Stu
And one of those three is the live event
On August 27th
There's really two more like this
And one of them is only a topic
The other one is sort of a best of
Well they're actually both kind of different
One is greatest misses and one is sort of best of the rest
Like it's sort of
We'll explain more later but this might be your last like the last episode what's
the theme of it is it like the best songs from like farewell the final is like like
and there'll be a fourth mic set up and uh people will take turns to tell us how much they're going
to miss us kind of like a rotating how do we got them through the pandemic essentially okay
um burning here i want to play a quick, quick bit of a song.
So people have prepared statements?
I hope so.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah.
R.E.P. Dusty.
So I'm going to crack open a Great Lakes here.
We lost Dusty Hill, likely not his real name.
That's a big one.
Not his real beard.
That would be tragic. What do you crack it open there That's a big one. Not his real beard.
That would be tragic.
What are you cracking open there? I'll let you.
I can't wait for you to do yours.
Nice.
And I'm cracking open a bag of Lay's ketchup chips.
That's really a rude thing to do when you're on a show.
But it's very Canadian, right?
That's very Canadian.
But to eat potato chips on a podcast is a really rude thing to do.
I was going to say, last episode, you had the baseball bat full of gumballs do when you're on a show. But to eat potato chips on a podcast is a really rude thing to do.
I was going to say, last episode, you had the baseball bat full of gumballs that you were
throwing back like they were...
I broke a tooth on those gumballs.
I'm not surprised.
Monica made a smart executive decision that
they would be dangerous for the little ones.
Those gumballs, because they were hard as a rock
and they were choking hazards. And she just didn't want
broken teeth and stuff. I took them all down.
I mean, I just want you guys to know that it was you that made the decision to go to,
like, Broken Teeth and Bubblegum during the Dusty Tribute.
Okay, so.
That was your guys' decision to drive the ZZ Top car in that lane.
That's fair.
Because it was a ZZ Top.
I mean, there's a band, that 70s band, that had that 80s push.
Yeah.
You know, we love those.
Yeah, totally.
It was like they were reinvented as this cool,
you know, like a Pepsi generation rock band.
It was great.
Great music videos.
Great look.
Yeah.
They told the story.
They had the car.
They had the beards.
They had like the spin around.
Hot babes were in it.
Their songs were very distinctly theirs.
Yeah.
Well, the drum machine.
Just so, and then you listen to this older stuff and you're like, holy shit.
It's like a whole different world.
And this is the only jam where Dusty Hill's on lead vocals.
That's right.
This is in Dazed and Confused, isn't it?
Yes, I had the soundtrack.
Of course, he's looking for some tush, right?
Yeah, like that's booty.
Oh, tush.
I've never heard that word, tush.
Tukus. That means booty, tush? booty. Oh, tush. I've never heard that word. Tush. That means booty?
Tush?
Oh.
That was Michelle.
Should I have answered it?
Like, does she need me?
I feel like I should have.
What's her favorite ZZ Top?
If she calls back,
I'll answer it.
Yeah.
I don't know if she's familiar
with ZZ Top.
Sharp-dressed men.
Yeah.
Every girl is crazy
about a sharp-dressed man.
Don Cherry's.
That's absolutely right.
So we lost a great one
and I wanted to pay tribute off the top.
And here,
so if I have to interrupt this
for our special guest,
we'll come back to it.
But can we get,
can we do some real talk?
Yes.
I need real talk here.
But first I just want to say,
Bojana met Mike Epple
on whatever day that was.
Yeah.
And I'm going to do a little bit
of a Bojana impression.
I hope she's not listening.
But she's with me chatting.
Mike Epple comes up to us.
He's from 680 and Breakfast Television.
And she looks at the guy and goes,
I know you.
And then she starts like giggling
like a high school girl.
And then she says,
I watch you every day.
Wow.
Bojana was like starstruck by Mike Epple.
Is that the first time that's ever happened with Bojana?
Yeah, that's the first time ever.
She marked out for him.
But that was a big deal.
Did he sign an autograph?
No, he didn't. Did he take a selfie?
No, we didn't. Did he give her a hug?
No. Did they share a kiss?
No kiss was shared. Was any kind of pleasantry, did he say,
hi, nice to meet you, Bojana?
Yeah, yeah, he was very nice to Bojana.
Where does he live? In Whitby or something?
Yeah, Whitby.
What's his exact address for Bojana?
I want to get it for her.
All right, so the real talk.
Here, let's do it.
Yes.
According to Bob Ouellette,
who's been a good friend of mine for many years.
Sure.
Good friend of mine as well for many weeks.
I distribute his podcast, Bob's Basement.
Yeah, I've been on it.
Bob Ouellette tells me he's received
no official application
from you
for the morning show job
in Kingston.
What the fuck?
Well, first of all,
that makes zero sense, Mike.
Think about what you just said.
You were on the thread
when I was offered
the job.
He needs something official, though.
But if I'm offered the job,
I have to apply
for the job that I'm offered?
See?
Cam, I'm looking at you
as the...
He's like,
you know,
like a table read?
He's like,
oh, I don't do table reads type guy or chemistry test.
Let me ask you this.
Let me ask you this.
Mr. Hollywood here.
Let me ask you this.
Sure.
If I was working for some social media giant...
Hypothetically.
Like second place, not number one like Twitter.
If I was one of the second, third, fourth, or fifth place Japanese,
and I had a big bucket of money, a little bit more than even people that have been doing it for 20 years in the social media game are getting.
And I offered that to you.
Sure.
Okay?
Yeah.
Do you need to apply for that job if I just offered you the job?
If I came after you?
If I was the pursuer?
Like to work head of communications for Facebook Canada, for example.
Would I need to interview?
Yes, I would think there'd be an interview.
There'd be resumes.
I understand that.
But if I offered you the job, like, Cam, the job is yours.
Okay.
Do you need to apply for that job if I've already offered it to you?
Think about what I'm saying.
Verbally or by the phone?
It's via Twitter DM.
Via Twitter DM.
There was an offer.
An offer was made. There was an offer. So I got to apply now for the offer? But he hasn via Twitter DM. It was a via Twitter DM. There was an offer. An offer was made.
There was an offer.
So I got to apply now
for the offer?
But he hasn't heard
from you since.
That's not true.
That's not true.
You've made contact
with Bob Willett
since our exchange on Twitter.
I mean, not physically.
Okay, well, that's...
Telepathically.
Put yourself in his spot, though.
Emotionally.
His bosses want him
to fill this role.
You need a morning show
guy in Kingston.
He can't diddle-daddle waiting for you to decide
if you want it or not.
I can't print out the Twitter DMs.
Bob knows that I'm
planning on going on the Humble and Fred show.
Right, 26th of August.
And who knows what my big announcement's gonna be.
It might have nothing to do with
Kingston or Bob. It might be
bullshit and there might not even be an announcement.
Speaking of bullshit, this is all bullshit, right?
End of summer greetings.
Yeah.
This is like the biggest work in like history.
Okay.
How about this?
All right, Cam?
Sure.
I swear on our friendship that Bob made an offer with a dollar amount for me to come
and host the show.
Yeah.
I witness this.
I swear.
That's a fact.
So how is that a work? But it was like a month ago. Or it was about three weeks ago. It wasn't a month ago. It was about three the show. Yeah, I witnessed this. I swear. That's a fact. So how is that a work?
But it was like a month ago.
It wasn't a month ago.
It was about three weeks ago.
It was about three weeks ago.
Okay, three weeks ago.
It's about a solid three weeks.
And no contact between you and Bob in the last three weeks.
There's been probably one contact made in that time.
Who's the co-host again?
Monica, the lovely Monica.
Yes.
She's great.
Is she?
Have you contacted her?
I thought it would be weird.
You need a chemistry test.
Yeah, I thought it might be a little weird.
Bob, he knows where I'm at.
Talk to Bob right now.
Bob's listening right now.
Talk to him.
Bob, what are we doing here?
Yeah.
I mean, work with me, bud.
I want to make this happen as much as you do, Bob.
So, you know, stop feeding Mike with this.
You know, you're feeding the dirt sheets With this rumor and this innuendo
And this gossip
And you're feeding to him
His quote on quote need for the real talk
And you're just giving him content
It's not worth it man
To keep it between us
Do you want the job?
I can get this fucking done tonight if you want this job
Just say the words to it
Honestly I do want the job
Let's be honest Do you believe him Cam? Tonight, if you want this job. Just say the words, Stuart. I mean, honestly, I do want the job.
Let's be honest.
Do you believe him, Cam?
I do.
Can I actually do the job?
It's a different question.
Do I want the job? Of course.
I don't know.
I'm on the fence on this.
You don't think I want the job?
You know him better than I do.
Why would I not want the job?
It sounds like a blast.
So he's not sure he can move to Kingston.
I mean, there's a lot more to it.
There's a lot to it.
It's not about me. Do I want to do the job? Of course I Kingston. I mean, there's a lot more to it. There's a lot to it. It's not about me.
Do I want to do the job?
Of course I do.
I think I would be great.
And Bob knows I'd be great,
or else we wouldn't be having this conversation.
Well, I think you shared last week,
the thing is with you, you have other interests.
It's like Bob McCowan had his fine wines.
He was hanging out with Alan Frew.
He was, I'm trying to think what else.
He tragically up wines.
That's it, I think. to think what else. He tragically up wines. That's it,
I think.
Mainly wine.
Mainly wine stuff.
Like,
Derringer does
Caledon type stuff,
I think.
He goes to Leaf Games.
Leaf Games,
you know,
his dance card's pretty busy.
So,
I do get it.
Stu,
I mean,
look at Stu's resume.
Like,
the stuff he's done.
Like,
this guy's busy.
This guy's doing stuff.
He's done a lot of great stuff.
He'd be a great morning show host.
I agree.
Listen,
Kingstone in Kingston.
There you go.
I could just see it now.
I think Monica would be sick of me within two days.
So you'd have like a Lonnie Schwartz type.
I think we need to have Bob Willett be the secret Zoom person
and have like this on air discussion.
That's not necessary.
We just take off the cans. Bob and I this on-air discussion. No, no, that's not necessary. We just take off the cans and put the mics away and they can...
Bob and I are doing something called negotiating right now.
It's a dance.
It's a dance.
You're going to negotiate yourself into reading the press release
where they announce the new co-host of Matt Layden in the morning.
If that's what needs to...
If Monica wants to move to Kingston and do that, she can.
It's funny because there's a Monica in Kingston co-hosting.
Monica and Monica, that's a good gimmick.
That would be the ultimate swerve if it wasn't Stu was the morning show,
Michael Boone was the morning show host.
And he lets me do it from here.
Would you move to Kingston?
No.
Not for that money.
So now you're like insulting my offer.
I built an enterprise here. I can't just go slum it in Kingston. Okay, so now you're like insulting my offer. I built an enterprise here.
I can't just go slum it.
Okay, so now you're giving me advice to go do it,
and I've built no enterprise.
He's got that Ben Mergey and that Levinson cash coming in.
I mean, Mike, put yourself in my shoes.
I got Honickman money, okay, buddy?
I just want to say this.
Bob and I, we're having a dance.
I think, Bob, don't fall for Mike's bullshit,
and we're not giving Mike content for the Toronto Mike Show
because we could just do this live on Bob's basement.
Get the ratings there.
I'm a free agent.
No matter what happens, after the 27th of August,
whether I end up in Kingston, whether it becomes Humble Fred and Stu,
you never know what the announcement's going to be.
I can't wait.
Everything's on the table.
1236, he wants to do a podcast with me.
Let's go. Yeah, St. Joseph Media, there you36. He wants to do a podcast with me. Let's go.
Yeah.
St. Joseph Media.
There you go.
He's been teasing his podcast for about eight years now.
So I'm not holding back.
I'm like free agent, Mike.
I'm like seven years of 1236.
Offers are coming in.
I mean, I was looking it up.
I think he's been over here like 40 times.
And unlike you guys who come over every week, he's a monthly guy.
I love it.
I know.
He's over Monday and I love those episodes so much.
Okay, so I just looked at the clock. It's
8.30 on the nose.
My special guest should be zooming
in. So while I wait for that, how
about you, Cam? We talk a lot about Stu. He's got a
movie coming out. He's going to be a morning
show host in Kingston.
Rolling around, Cam. What's going on with you?
I don't mean to overlook you, but you're
kind of overshadowed by this fucking legend.
Cam's taller than me, but I cast a big shot.
You got Dottie Darko co-star beside you.
Ketchup chips are really good.
Who hangs out with DJ.
He's destroying my life.
He's fucking shoving ketchup chips in his mouth.
He hangs out with DJ fucking Lietzel.
He's got vitamin water.
He's 50 cent over here.
Yeah, no, things are all good. I'll try
to think if there's any Twitter topics we should get.
Have you listened to any Toronto Mike episodes?
Like, did you enjoy, for example,
we talked about Mike Epple, but did you enjoy
Mike Epple on Toronto Mike? Yeah, Epple was great. Like I said,
a lot more fun loving
than I thought, though. He sort of
yucks it up a little bit on breakfast television.
Sadie,
he seems very ageless too like he's
always been that age right he's got a lot of energy yeah and i i did enjoy that that first
uh switchover clip from 680 with obviously with dick smith and peter gross is on there yeah all
the same sound effects like that like that old-fashioned ticker so that was um that was fun
but yeah kind of same old here.
Again, I'm trying to think,
is there any social media gossip
that I should be talking about?
The Olympics?
Yeah, I'm really into the Olympics.
I might actually stream live on our show
if we're still going at 9.59.
There's a swim with Penny in it
that I might stream live
so we can all enjoy it together
you should get her in the back
I should
also
speaking of stuff going on
I have some news
breaking sports news
this is exciting
this is more exciting
I can tell you who the Raptors
have picked 4th overall
in the NBA draft.
Suggs.
No.
Really?
Jalen Green.
Scotty Barnes from Florida State.
Wow.
I know.
It's not Suggs.
I think Suggs will end up here.
Actually, it's VP of Sales is comparing Suggs to Ed O'Brien.
Sorry, Ed O'Bannon.
Ed O'Bannon.
Like the radiohead guitarist.
Ed O'Bannon.
And of course, that makes Scotty Barnes, Damon Stoudemire.
I was going to say, well, I think of Suggs, I think of the band Madness, who I think we
played our...
Okay, Canada Cav doesn't want to hear you chew those chips, so...
Yeah.
Okay.
Well, anyway, getting back, I think Barnes was...
Oh, wait, be fucking careful.
He was projected like fifth or sixth overall, I feel like.
So maybe Masai knows.
Actually, Masai's not even the GM of this team.
We all talk about Masai.
Bobby Webster.
Right, right, right, right.
Wow, that's...
By all indications, Suggs was a real fit,
like a second playmaker type guy to go with Fred VanVleet.
Right.
That's a bit of a surprise.
Yeah, it's a bit of a surprise.
That's breaking news here on our
72nd pandemic fight. Well, you know what?
I'm going to listen to Hebsey on Sports
tomorrow morning to get the real lowdown
on this move and maybe the Jays'
latest acquisition. Brad Hand
sucks. Although I do like his name
because there's a lot of good puns.
You should talk to the hand.
Have Brad Hand in the background.
There's many others. So because the guest has not zoomed in,
this is the pain in the ass part of all this,
but I will follow up the guest.
How about we start with you, Ken?
How about Max Scherzer going to the Dodgers?
Is that because they said he was going to the Giants.
Oh, no, sorry, the Padres.
And Russell Westbrook to the Lakers.
Ooh, is that?
Wow.
Okay, I got to go.
Is that a rumor?
That's a rumor. I'm seeing it officially reported. Russell Westbrook to the Lakers who is that wow okay I gotta go I got a rumor or is that how that's a rumor I'm seeing
an officially reported Russell Westbrook yeah like I saw that going around hoops rumors for
uh wow that Tucker Horton and uh Kelvis Portis see KCP whatever that guy's name is
Keltavius Porter so let's do this Cam why don't we play that bonus jam you wanted to talk about so yeah why not this
this for anybody in the chat room let me know if you know who this is let's not say who it is we'll
see if anybody can correctly identify this listing i was so once i was so surprised i was a little
surprised you didn't know who this was mike and i feel great shame so let's see if i'm alone here we
go I feel great shame, so let's see if I'm alone. Here we go. Throw your hands in the sky. Ah! Come on, fucking guys. These girls can't have me and it makes them fucking cry.
Ah!
Come on, fucking guys.
Do you know who this is?
I'm wearing a horn and a suit and a tie.
Now I don't feel so bad.
Okay.
Tell us who we're listening to here.
And this is, by the way, this is not an official pick by Cam.
No, this is honorary mentions.
People are shit.
Speak of which, the Slipknot
guy died.
Anyway, enough about that. We did that.
Chuggo is the name of the
artist South Etobicoke's
own. This is why I kind of thought you'd know him
because he's a one-time neighbor
of yours down here. But I only got here
like seven years ago.
Yeah, so the name of the song was
Ah Come On. Although a lot of people misidentified the name of the song was Ah Come On, although a lot of people
misidentified the name
of the song as Ah Come On
Fucking Guy, which is the chorus
in this. So this was
a Canadian hip hop track that came out in
I want to say 2006, 2007.
And it was kind of one of those
things before social media was
not quite a meme, but became something people would laugh about on message boards and whatnot.
And I don't know if like Reddit was around then, but it was kind of a punchline.
And I feel like this also coincided with the rise of YouTube.
And this all of a sudden had like hundreds of thousands of views.
Chuggo had some problems,
ended up in jail,
I want to say in Montreal,
for I believe assault.
You can hear,
it's quite graphic language,
but I feel like it was actually
that website Something Awful.
Do you remember this?
Absolutely, yes.
Yeah, I think that's what
popularized this song.
So I think in spite of kind of some questionable lyrics
and the video is quite colorful
and probably doesn't hold up too well
to the sensibilities of today,
I think this is a real snapshot of a very certain time
in like internet culture
where this just kind of became a thing
because it was so ridiculous.
And this guy walked around with a scepter
with a skull on the end, kind of like a thing because it was so ridiculous. And this guy walked around with a scepter with a skull on the end,
kind of like a voodoo type look.
Nobody in the chat room knows Chuggo either.
Nobody.
I know Zanta, but Zanta didn't rap.
No, Zanta did not rap.
So now we're just allowed bonus artists?
He wanted me to play this.
Yes, you could always have had bonus artists.
He wanted to play it and find out if anybody had bonus artists I didn't know we were allowed that
Because I would have brought a bonus artist
You've never been shy before to bring
I don't want to step on any toes
Canadian hip hop
Chuggo
Love it chuggo
Okay so now your official first choice
Do you have anything to say or would you like me to kick it
Oh did you tell everybody that it's Canadian hip hop
Yeah I think I did
For those just joining us on their walk
Canadian hip hop I don't think podcasts work that way Canadian hip-hop? Yeah, I think I did. For those just joining us on their walk? Canadian hip-hop.
I don't think podcasts work that way.
Canadian hip-hop is what we're kicking out.
This is Cam Gordon's first selection.
Anything you want to say or do you want to kick it?
Yeah, this is, again, a tough topic.
Why was it a tough topic?
I just don't think there's that many.
I'll say this.
I don't think there's that many obvious choices that are of our vintage that we often feature songs oh okay okay i think that's fair now with an exception
of this band who i think we forgot how popular this band was okay here we go okay yeah okay
i forgot about this.
It's like DJ Shadow's song.
Okay, I'm taking a victory sip.
Thank you. To the critics and the cynics your time is up Just admit it everybody but this rhyme is up Perfected but not invented Rhymes from the ego driven self centered
Entered the fast lane and never got dented Life in a flash, pipes, buds and hash
Three of my favorites, four of us made this More hits in the majors, up from the minors
Bust from the top, duck cops and sirens Fresh out the shop, poppin' and stylin' Mad child's wildin', unidentical The cynical's medical condition is critical So I'm digging the jam here.
Okay.
This kind of holds up pretty well.
I like it.
I always liked it though.
Yeah.
I always thought this had like a real Timbaland vibe.
Like that kind of...
Because there's an Ellie Furtado in these guys and Timbaland.
There's a whole like...
It was a whole thing, yeah.
And they later did a song.
So this is, of course, Swollen Members out of Vancouver.
The name of this song is...
I don't think I ever knew the name of this song.
It's called Fuel Injected.
I always just thought it was Swollen Members theme or something.
Because I feel like this is one of their, if not their first big hit,
certainly their first big hit certainly
they're the first or second um up until the year 2016 the swollen members were the best-selling
canadian hip-hop act of all time with the exception of drake which is a pretty lofty mantle and these
guys had a lot of hits on my say that fact again day. With the exception of Drake, the best-selling Canadian hip-hop
artist of all time. I would have thought
like Cardi or
Cardinal Oficial. Yeah.
But like, did he sell a lot of albums?
Because I feel like he did a lot of guest tracks.
Yeah, but I thought that one he did
with like Akon and stuff. Was that him or was that
an Akon track? Dangerous.
He had another one.
Cardi Slam. He had a couple of US hits.
I'm surprised at that fact.
That's awesome.
I don't recall specifically.
I feel like Swollen members definitely crossed over with bands like Sum 41 and kind of more like Warped Tour type bands.
I saw them at an edge fest, I think.
What are the rep members' names again?
There was Mocha Only.
He's now a big deal. He's like a DJ, right?
I believe so, yeah. And there was
Madchild.
He was in the mix, and then some other
guys were in there.
Janechild.
Janechild, you know, probably did a guest appearance.
But yeah, they did a song with Nelly Furtado,
Breathe, that was actually the number one hit on Much Music.
A bunch of just random fun facts about Swollen Members.
There was actually another band called Swollen Members.
Amazingly, they were an original Toronto punk band,
sort of in the era of the Vile Tones.
So maybe, you know, next time Johnny Doe records over there.
And Swollen Members, fun fact, it could mean a wrecked penis.
Exactly.
Which I assume was the case here.
A few more fun facts.
There was a 2003 remix of this song
featuring Socrates,
who I feel like is someone who's going to come up a lot
because I feel like he was one of those, like, near misses.
Because he definitely had a career,
had some good songs,
but never quite crossed over.
He had a deal in the States.
Socrates.
Yeah, Socrates was a big fucking deal.
BFD.
Yeah, Swollen Members.
We mentioned they've collaborated with Nelly Fretado.
Some of the other artists they collaborated with include Everlast.
Oh, my goodness.
Also members of the Dilated Peoples and Jurassic 5.
I saw them at an edge fest.
They were sort of in the mix. Charlie Tuna.
And final fun fact
about Swollen members, they
appeared on an album called Extra
Pop Imperium, which is a
insane
Clown Posse remix album.
Some of the other artists who appeared on this
included
alongside Swollen members Some of the other artists who appeared on this Shout out to the Juggalos Included That's right
Alongside swollen members included
Ice Cube Ghetto Boys
R.E.P. Bushwick Bill
The Three Six Mafia Twisted
Someone I had not thought of
For many years, speaking of like internet
It's Crayshon
I know Crayshon
Gucci Gucci
Fendi Fendi Prada
And Color Me Bad
was the wacky pick
on this album
Monica kicked out
some of
Color Me Bad
on her sex episode
there you go
and then last but not least
you may recall
there was a video
called 100 Million
by a band we talk about
all the time
Trouble Charger
yeah 100 Million
reason
yeah
Swollen Members
is one of the many
Canadian artists who made a
cameo. That was like you mentioned, that's like the
American Psycho style.
That could have been the end of an E for sure.
So other than Swollen Members, also in that
video included Avril Lavigne, Sum 41
and Gob.
Oh my god. I think these were all the bands
Greg Norrie managed to produce for.
So Swollen Members, I figured that was a good place to start.
I think that's an excellent choice.
Now, I actually wanted to start with the jam that was kicked out,
so I'm going to give an update.
My boy at 1236 says,
Swollen Members were also on Ed the Sock,
the unwashed collection compact disc.
Oh, my God.
I bet you 1236 has a copy.
It says, available at all the finer value villages.
Bargain Heralds.
Amazing.
Okay, so here's the guys. Let me update everybody.
The special guest never zoomed in,
but was confirmed locked and loaded, blah, blah, blah.
It's not the first time that's happened.
It only happened, technically, I've only ever missed on one.
Now, who just completely forgot to do it.
Now, I did text this person,
and I'm going to keep
an eye on my texts and find out what's going on.
But I'm not giving up.
We'll be here for a couple of hours and I suspect our guest will zoom in and kick out a jam.
So now I'm going to do my jam.
Are you guys ready?
Yes.
Always.
What the fuck is this?
My definition.
My definition of a bombastic jazz style. Bye. Bye. Bye. Here we go
Are you ready for one another
Dream warriors
Noise is new
Discover old
Once again
With a new blend
So telephone a friend
Yo D-Boy's got this new song
It's dope man
Come back this
This song was a mind blow
On an episode
That's possible.
Because we played the Quincy Jones song.
So the Quincy Jones song is called Soul Boss Nova.
Yeah, we played that.
No one best, I think, for us Canadians,
as the theme of a definition.
Yes.
Hence the name of the song,
My Definition of a Boombastic Jazz Style.
Yeah, this is, of course,
this is a great jam.
Like, I don't know if you guys own
and now the legacy begins.
Yeah.
You washed your face in my sink.
Yeah, for sure.
So this is the Dream Warriors.
This really holds up to you.
Like, it still sounds very retro,
but that's kind of the point of it.
So yeah, so this is, of course,
a big sample from quincy
jones uh what more can i say except that i've had dj ron nelson on the program so we've did we've
dove deep into this band uh dj ron nelson it was at his place his home studio where this album was
recorded and he has one of the he produced at least one jam on the on the uh album but this
is like uh this album and now the legacy begins had at least three big on the album. But this is like, this album, and now The Legacy Begins,
had at least three big
Toronto radio hits.
What was the third?
Do you guys remember Lootie?
Yep.
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
So, yeah,
I Wash Your Face in My Sink,
this one,
my definition of a
boom-bastic jazz style.
Da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da.
Lootie.
Lootie.
Lootie.
It's got that island flavor.
It was very cool.
So it was King Lou and capital Q.
And what other fun facts can I share
except that they sold 800,000 copies of this thing worldwide.
That's more than Sue Stone.
Yeah.
Finally.
They were kind of a big deal in the UK, too.
Wait, so they sold 800,000 copies
and swollen members sold
more than that you're
saying?
Well, I think that was
in Canada.
Yeah, this definitely
had a UK.
Yeah, although Swollen
members were probably
only big in Canada I
think.
Because I actually think
this video got played
on MTV a few times.
Yeah, this was a big
deal.
It's a good jam.
And nowadays if you
ask an American about
this song,
they probably think of Austin Powers.
Do we know?
Yeah, obviously this feature in Austin Powers.
Did Mike Myers know this because of the game show?
I assume he must have.
He grew up in Scarborough.
Yeah, he probably watched a lot of Definition. I was a big Quincy Jones fan.
Mike, remind us,
what have been your interactions with Paul Myers
a bit awkward like we had an awkward exchange via Twitter DM and he sort of ticked me off a
little bit okay I was gonna book him and then there was a whole thing and anyway I decided
not to book him after that how about Greg Greg Myers? He was traded at...
Yeah, he was like
Pied Borders' backup
for many, many years.
Shout out to Greg Myers.
Okay, one more fact
is that this was
the rap recording
of the year
at the Junos
in 1992.
Sure was.
Seriously.
Well earned.
Well earned.
But again,
I love these guys.
I feel like Joel Goldberg,
FOTM Joel Goldberg, has some professional connection love these guys. I feel like Joel Goldberg, FOTM Joel Goldberg,
has some professional connection to these guys
because he's been threatening to get them on Toronto Mic
for like five years now.
I'm trying to remember why they didn't have more of a career
because remember their second album?
They had like California Dream and Day In, Day Out.
Those were good jams.
Yeah, so what happened? I don't know.
That's why I want to get them on the show. Something happened.
I need to find out what went down there. But they're still around. I see them on
Instagram and stuff. They have an account
or someone's doing Instagram for them.
Oh, and they made a cameo in the great video
at the Jane and
Finch Food City.
A great video called
Check the OR by Organized Rhymes.
Shout out to Tom Green.
Also Juno nominated.
We're going to get to that in a second.
No spoilers because there better be some
OR in this episode.
Let me check my Zoom. Not yet.
Let me check my text. This is the part of the show
that pisses me off.
Let me check Hoops Rumors.
What's going on over here?
Okay, Stu Stone, the microphone is yours, brother.
This is a great song.
I think you're really going to like it, Kingston.
No, I really like this song.
No joke.
I remember hearing this song that we're about to play.
I was visiting Toronto.
I heard the song.
I went out to three different stores to get the CD
because you couldn't get it.
Took it back to L.A. with me and played it at every party,
tried to get it over, like, tried to blend it in
with, like, the Wu-Tang records and everything
because I thought this song was as good as anything
that anybody put out that year.
This is a really great fucking song, and let's play it. We'll see you next time. Sick line right there. So, yes.
That right there
is an artist known as a Choclair
or better known to his fans as the Chiznocka.
Choclair, man, I'm telling you.
Is that true?
Yeah, the Chiznocka, man.
Chiznocka.
Choclair, baby. I'm telling you. Is that true? Yeah, the Chiznaka, man. Chiznaka.
Choclair, baby.
One of the first guys from Canada,
well, first, obviously, Maestro is the GOAT, right?
But it got quiet for a while, right?
There was not much going on, and then all of a sudden,
a bunch of guys started popping off,
and there was a little bit of a late 90s resurgence
for Canadian hip-hop, Kim.
And I think Choclair was at the forefront of it.
Sure.
For sure.
This song is fucking sick.
The video was directed by Lil X,
who is now known as Director X.
You guys know Director X.
Yeah, he's a very big deal.
This was, of course, Choclair's first single.
It went to the charts.
This is his most...
Okay, so this is his most commercially successful song, right?
Where did it go on the chart in Canada?
Say 18.
Number 38.
Ouch.
But how about where did it go in the United States?
Ooh.
Number 37.
Really?
This song, in a weird fun fact, charted higher in America than it did here,
and it's one of the great rap songs in Canadian rap history.
That's kind of disgraceful.
But Choclair is the man.
He's been nominated for six Juno Awards.
He's won four of them, Cam.
Four of them.
This is a great jam.
I just want to say well done.
You guys have been...
Produced by Cardinal Afishal,
featuring Socrates on the ad libs.
Quick update, which is I've made contact
with the secret special guest,
and I believe we will be hearing a ding any time now.
But Stu, please continue.
Great jam.
Well, no, this is it.
I'm done.
I mean, I literally thought this song
held up with any of its American counterparts
when it came out, and I would
bring it with me everywhere. I would play this song
for anybody. You tried to evangelize
Chuck Claymore. Yeah, I loved it.
I was all in. He had a line
in another song where he says,
talking about Monday Night Rock
and the Sky Dome. I mean,
this guy was really speaking to me.
Danny O is an FOTM.
Absolutely.
Right after the Kish episode.
Choc Claire was speaking to me, right?
Because he was talking about Joe Carter hitting home runs in Monday Night Raw.
These are things that I never heard in a rap song before.
Down at the Sky Dome.
So I'm a big fan of Choc Claire's.
The Chiznocka.
Shout out to Michael Snow.
That's the fans.
The fans at the Dome right now.
There's some plunder flags.
Okay, awesome.
The special guest has arrived.
Yeah.
Okay.
So remember,
only I can see the special guest,
but I'm going to let this person in
to kick out the first jam,
even though it's not the first jam anymore.
Ooh.
Okay.
Okay.
to kick out the first jam, even though it's not the first jam anymore.
Okay.
Now, I can see the special guest.
I know who it is, but let's hear from the secret special guest.
Please introduce, well, don't give us your name yet.
Try to tell us a little bit about yourself without revealing your name, and we'll see if Cam and Stu can guess who you are.
Sure thing.
I'm from Scarborough.
My heritage is I was born in England,
but my cultural heritage is Trinidadian slash African.
I went to Lester B. Pearson High School.
I met the first person I worked with in terms of artist management.
I met him while he was cleaning chicken wings and about to cook them at a roadhouse restaurant in Scarborough.
I played soccer at a relatively high level.
What else is good?
Check the live chat and see if they have a guess in the live chat here.
I'll just tell my friends, Stu Stone and Cam Gordon here,
that this is a BFD.
I was going to say, is this Ron Nelson?
No, is this DJ Ron Nelson?
Absolutely not.
Ron can't play soccer.
Ron is not Trinidadian.
Ron didn't go to Lesbos in Pearson High School.
Does he cook, though? Ron didn't
really manage artists
to any extent. He was
more of a producer, DJ,
industry
stalwart, nonetheless, but
didn't manage in the capacity
that I did, although he's a wonderful
friend. So this is a very famous individual we have on the Zoom here.
I'll help out the guys.
I don't want to make this more awkward than it is.
But managed a prominent Toronto hip-hop artist.
Okay.
But a lot of people will know him from television.
Wait, is he a master?
Is he a master?
Is this Master T?
You don't know how Master T sounds?
You've got your nationality is wrong.
And Old Toronto has had a predominance of Jamaicans.
But as I said, I'm from Trinidad and Tobago.
Oh, Trinidad.
Has this gentleman done some stuff with the Bell Media Network?
Like guested on, been judges on TV shows or something?
This person was a judge on a very popular show.
It's Sass Jordan.
Come on.
Good guess.
No, this is Farley Flex, I believe.
Oh, my goodness.
The legend.
There you go.
Holy shit.
I can't believe this.
Farley, they're very impressed.
This is huge.
I'm glad you're having fun, guys.
Good to meet you both.
Good to meet you, man.
Thank you for...
We wouldn't be able to even do an episode
about Canadian hip-hop
if it wasn't for a guy like you
because literally you kicked down the door.
No, the builder.
The builder.
Yeah, myself and others.
Yeah, but absolutely.
It was amazing, obviously,
to be part of that evolution of Canadian music.
Very important evolution of Canadian music.
How hard was it to get those records on the radio?
Because there was no Canadian rap going on on the radio back then.
Well, you know what?
Because one of the beautiful things about what I call the anatomy of a hit
is that it's transferable in so many ways.
So our first radio single was undeniable to the ear in my opinion yeah
maybe we should kick it out on behalf of the artist right sorry i have an idea let's kick
out your jam now and then we'll have more questions on the other side because uh i know
stew and cam are very excited here so without further ado i'm so glad we're gonna play this
song tonight i don't think we can do this episode without playing this song.
Here it is.
This is a throwdown.
A showdown.
Hell no, I can't slow down.
It's going to go.
First offense.
On the mix.
Go on and break.
That's the number one.
This is the number one song.
Mary, did you please?
This is it.
Without this song, there's nothing.
I don't give a shit.
I agree 100%.
My mind blew when I first heard this fucking song.
And again, hold up.
Let's give Wes about 60 seconds before I bring it down.
I mean, it just sounds as good for the 7,000th time you've heard it.
You want to hear it again.
This jam is amplified to just glide. Everybody knew the words. Backbone slide. is good for the 7,000th time you've heard it, you want to hear it again.
Everybody knew the words.
So when you're hearing the demo of this song, are you freaking out?
Are you guys running around the fucking car
knowing that this is a smash?
I'll tell you the
story so there's many people are not aware of this but that version you just heard is the remix that
we repurposed as the single so the original version of that is different equally as prolific
in obviously lyrically but the music i don't think Would have translated As well as this version does
And has
Wow
So
What happened was
After we had finished
Recording the original
The two producers
Peter and Anthony Davis
Who are siblings
They called us
If I'm not mistaken
It was around
You know
10 or so
Relatively late at night
So to speak
And said
We've got something
We'd like you guys to hear.
So I picked up Wes. We went to the studio. And all I remember is tears rolling down my face
and holding Wes's bicep tightly and saying, this is it, bro. Right. You did it. Right. And
wow. And I knew I knew and I can qualify that statement.
I really believe, you know, I have this what I believe is a little bit of an uncanny ability to recognize a hit when I hear one.
And that's happened on a few occasions. And, you know, it's been a big, big part of my career.
But was this the was this the first one that you like? Was this your your your virginity was lost on this song?
Is this the one?
Yeah, this was the one that from a breakthrough legacy slash whatever standpoint. The anatomy of this song, as I shared with Mike many times, is that when you listen to the elements of it, it everything contributes independently and interdependently to the how the
song sounds so so if you ask somebody what's your favorite part let your backbone slide one person
might say the beat another person will say the keyboard as somebody says his voice somebody says
oh betty edo call your curious george some somebody will say call me a hip-hop tic-tac-tac
there's like 15 20 different reasons that people
have why it's their favorite songs if you compile all of that into one statement it it really defines
the anatomy of the hit in my opinion well from a body part yeah it's unbelievable i was gonna say
and it's so it the video kicked ass is so memorable like it's it's just a great moniker
maestro fresh west like let your backbone size a great knee like it this this song fucking had it all like i think it's why i still love it
so many years later i still love listening to this song love it thanks you know it's likewise i mean i
i love love listening to i don't get tired of songs like generally i'm kind of weird that way
right but i can listen to certain songs forever and that's definitely one you know what i loved about maestro too like those first like three or four albums he
he like was able to thread a needle between like private symphony and conducting things he's
wearing the tuxedo like i enjoyed like from a branding perspective there's a real continuity
to it but they're all very like quite different at the same time too but like you knew as him
too like it's just sort of like the packaging of it was just like brilliant too yeah yeah and and i really appreciate
that because first of all of that west was all of that was west's brainchild um i was a supporter
and a facilitator and so forth and an executor if you will but um you're absolutely right like he
knew that he was not going to be the the typical or even stereotypical typically
dressed uh rapper he wanted to be a maestro he he knew yeah he knew he was going to wear tuxedos
have a conductor's stick um if you look to listen to the name of the album symphony in effect black
tie affair you know conducting things as a single title, etc. He was
a genius as far as a brand.
I couldn't remember his name, which wasn't the
easiest to remember for certain people.
Maestro, Fresh, Wes, or whatever.
People just say the guy in the tux.
Totally.
I remember when Private Symphony
came out. That was the
swerve into the slow jams.
I remember I often leave the room watching with my mom. at Symphony came out. Like that was the swerve into like the slow jams. That's the ballad.
I remember I have to leave the room
watching with my mom.
I'd be embarrassed.
It was like too sexy
when I was like 14 years old.
Like it was a bit much,
but they did like nothing at all.
I think we played that
like on a pass up.
It was like just
like a litany of hits.
Like it's incredible.
Like the body of work.
That song though,
just from a hip hop standpoint,
because there was like a lot of kind of quote unquote just from a hip-hop standpoint because there was
like a lot of kind of quote-unquote radio rap happening at that time in the united states and
it was really getting really bad but this was like canada had a rapper that was like as good like
this is like rakim or big daddy cane or you know this is a guy that's like not this is the real
thing and that's why i think everybody championed him because the whole country wanted him to win.
I know you guys –
People didn't know he was from here.
No, you wouldn't know.
You would think he's in New York.
Yeah.
As a Canadian, you don't really want to have to say this, but he was so good, people didn't think he was Canadian.
Yeah.
It's like when you watch movies and Canadian-made movies, right?
Like you sort of get that feel that, oh, that's a Canadian movie, right?
But then certain shows, you know, like what's the one with the guys?
They're like a SWAT team.
The one with Degrassi.
Yeah, sure.
Certain shows break that barrier qualitatively.
Schitt's Creek.
Yeah, Schitt's Creek.
Yeah, Schitt's Creek, exactly.
Stuff like that.
They break the barrier.
Right.
You know, it's probably the Second City stuff.
Sure.
It competes head on with with saturday night live in many respects i think what's really crazy is that
maestro and you guys had to like the toronto thing was something you kind of had to overcome to like
break in the states whereas like 20 years later right look what happened now i'll take a selling
like people if you're from toronto they'll throw a deal at your way you know it's like
it's the perception of canada hip-hop has changed completely,
but this is the first fucking hit.
This is the first shot, and it's unbelievable, man.
Coming out of the gate strong.
It's so cool to be able to talk to you about it.
I appreciate that.
I just want to know about the hustle to get it in high rotation.
Were you guys like, how did you pull that off?
Yeah, like how do you get 680 CFTR to start playing Let You Back?
Once they start playing it, it's game over.
Right.
Yeah, so the organic evolution of the song really started with us having
import singles that we would give to DJs.
There was a Play the Record, the record for on young street um we would sell
the tracks to you the singles to eugene and he would sell them um obviously to djs and etc etc
so when you have the organic evolution of where the groundswell is at the club level right and
then you know attic records who picked up the, picked it up while it was already jogging at a high speed.
And then they hit the ground running with it.
And,
um,
you know,
the,
the video obviously was,
was critical.
Uh,
so our,
our home label,
our,
our actual label that we were assigned to the frack ballist records,
LMR were supportive in,
in,
um,
granting Joel Goldberg,
our great friend,
um,
with the proper budget to do the video,
to make it impactful, have some unique aspects to it. Like the Kurt swing hammer, our great friend, with the proper budget to do the video, to make it impactful,
have some unique aspects to it,
like the Kurt Swinghammer,
Archie Rettree, all that sort of stuff.
But what I was also going to say
is that the trajectory of Let's Your Backbones
or of Maestro leading to Drake or Tory Lanez
or whomever now,
and Cardi sort of somewhere in the middle of that,
is that it's the same trajectory
that, for instance,
Canadian basketball is going in.
You need people to break down the door.
Anthony Bennett, irrespective of what the trajectory for him was after,
he was a number one pick.
Angie Wiggins, number one pick.
And it brings attention to the marketplace.
And the other thing it does that's really important
is it inspires the younger folks to say, I can do it too.
That's the number one thing.
When you have a one-on-one with Drake, he'll say he was inspired by Maestro.
For sure.
Inspired by Maestro.
Tory Lanez, inspired by Maestro.
Just like every, you know, Corey Joseph and all those guys have been inspired.
If you guys are watching the NBA draft tonight, which I'm missing because of Mike right now,
If you guys are watching the NBA draft tonight, which I'm missing because of Mike right now, you know, you'll see there are a number of Canadians in the draft consistently every year.
And every one of us stands on the shoulders of those who come before us.
Totally.
That's the important thing to remember. Just to reiterate, like kind of what he just said, which is obviously brilliant.
he just said which is obviously brilliant if you think about this uh mr flex back in the day when maestro puts comes on right and he's fucking you're killing it with let your backbone slide
and drop the needle and all these fucking hits and if the record labels are sniffing around toronto
there's nothing else there he's the only fucking guy and he's the only show in town now with drake
gets on there's all sorts of people because everybody
was inspired like he said by maestro people weren't even rapping here until they heard maestro
so this is well slight correction um just just to be fair fair um there wasn't there was um an
underground market sure but not on the radio is what i'm saying yeah yeah but college radio
okay access to radio that we had sure sure the ron nelson's the
dj powers um the folks at what chry were critically important they were us initial cfr chum virgin
radio etc etc and you know there's you know in these times we can speak more openly about it but
i have spoken about it for 30 odd years you You know, anti-black racism, quite frankly, guys, for sure, what limited, limited the prominence of black music
in this country and still does. Right. There's still not enough representation of people who
understand the culture and how it how it moves and permeates other cultures. Right. Guys like
you guys, I can't see the other two guys, but I'm assuming you're both white. Are you?
Correct.
Yeah, here, let me see if I can pick up.
You keep talking, but I'll see if I can get their camera in here for you.
Music has the incredible ability, as does sports, to bring people together.
For sure. But if the system is designed to keep people apart, then that's where the challenge happens.
So access to radio as a black canadian
artist you know being canadians in your favor from a cancon standpoint but the but the
unfamiliarity of the people who are in charge with the culture of hip-hop right and which is a
derivative of black culture right their unfamiliarity is going to leave them in a fearful
position like you know i don't know i don't know if i should play this i don't want to lose my job
because there's nobody they're curating the art form at the decision making
level on the industry side right yeah right so so let's be real about it so mishy me and um you know
rumbling strong and all k force and all the other artists who had material out there in the local
college marketplace and their are tons of others.
So those people should have got a shot.
Should have got a shot.
You might hear some of those people later tonight.
With a viable single, they all
deserve the shot. Did everybody get along?
Did Maestro kick the door? You guys
kicked the door and they kind of...
We all toured together. We toured in various packages.
We toured at Dream Warriors.
We did shows with mishi etc
etc the rascals obviously was the saw guy called me in his fledgling days one of the greatest
managers can has ever had and and said um you know we we'd like to open for you when you guys
come to the western part of canada because they're from vancouver and we were like hell yeah you know
what i'm saying so like you know we understood that some of the parts was greater than the whole and we love that notion of of having local um artists open for us who could
bring that initial groundswell no matter how big our music was you know and um and west was as a
phenomenal communicator he'd know and i would facilitate this i'd find the names what are the
names of the two local high schools so that he could shout them out say hey boone hi where are you that's great you know yeah we would do stuff like that and um yeah so
so you know more chances should have and still should be awarded to any culture that brings
that enters the pop arena you can spell hip-hop nowadays you can spell it H-I-P-P-O-P.
Yep, totally.
Right?
Because it's the number one genre of music on the planet
for the last 20 years.
Yep.
And it's still not getting along.
Can I ask a very, like, nerdy industry question?
Like, during those, in the 1990s,
who were the people at, like, the Canadian labels
who were trying to keep this moving forward?
I got friendly for a
few years with craig manix who i think it's like a universal now is i believe but he wasn't in the
label industry then he was a he was touring when he came on a couple we took him on tour with us
okay who are like some of the other names like maybe that the average toronto mic lister hasn't
heard of who are like real builders because i i'm always curious when i learned craigster i'm like holy shit like this guy just like what he was doing where like the average Toronto mic listener hasn't heard of who are like real builders because I'm always curious when I learn Craigster I'm like holy shit
like this guy just like what he was
doing where like the average person reading the
Toronto Star listening to CFDR might not know
him but was like a real builder in his own right who
are some of the other names back then
yeah there were a lot of contributors so you have to give the
DJs that I mentioned on the various
shows the CICIUT
DJ Power and his crew
the obviously Ron Nelson DJ X and all the remember hip-hop
was this like map of shows like you have to on college oh sorry college radio was this map of
different shows that played there might have been four shows that played hip-hop two that played
reggae eight that played punk like you have to have to navigate the system to know where to find your
favorite music. I remember literally
to hear any hip-hop, you'd have to find
Fantastic Voyage.
105 point something, 88 point something.
88.1.
Those are the stations I'm talking about.
All those people are builders.
The MCs, the maestros of the world
are eternally grateful to those guys.
Then on top of that, you'd go into the, in terms of the labels.
Oh, like someone like Michelle Geister, Joel Goldberg, Sharon Cavanaugh,
much music, Master T obviously, Mike Williams.
These are all people that embrace the genre for their own reasons that,
that came together and when compounded into opportunities, right?
Cause I don't know if
you guys know how we got our first deal. We were on Electric Circus a second time,
and Stevie B was the interview after our live performance, and he came out of his interview
and beckoned us as we were walking out onto Queen Street to head home and said, hey. And I went back
and he said, I really like that song. My label's in town. I'm doing a show in Brampton tonight.
If you could come, my label would like
to talk to you. I think we might have a single deal
for you, yada, yada, yada.
We got our U.S. deal. Really?
Yeah, absolutely.
See, I know this story because I've talked to
far-leaf legs. Wait, Stevie B, you said?
Yeah. Stevie B.
Like the Postman song? Yeah, the Postman song.
Wow. That's amazing.
Yeah.
On the label side, the Alan Reeds, the Postman song. Wow. Spring Love. That's amazing. Yeah. True story.
And then on the label side, the Alan Reeds, the Faisal Durrani's.
From our standpoint, I mean, there were other, like at BMG, the Lisa's A Bit News and people like that, where Dream Warriors ended up being signed and so forth. All of those were really key sort of pillars and components to escalating up that ladder.
sort of pillars and components to escalating up that ladder.
And of course, Al Mayer at Attic Records, who had a, he's so brilliant.
He picked up Maestro, Digital Underground, Naughty by Nature,
Weird Al Yankovic, if you remember him.
Who else did he have that he licensed? He was a licensing maniac, right?
He licensed the top hits from a number, I think he had House of Pain. Right. Like he picked all that stuff up for Canada. Right. Us being one of the earliest, if not the first hip hop act, maybe second that he signed off of a U.S. label.
And Mark, he's the one to answer your earlier question.
Steve Waxman, who ended up with Warner, right?
And I don't think he's there anymore.
But he was the radio guy along with, oh, geez, last name Allen.
Brian Allen, right?
They did the marketing and promotion to radio, right?
You know, in terms of the ownership of the record
or licensing of the record,
and then A&M slash Polygram or whatever
would have been our education.
It's just crazy how much you touch on it,
just how much like kind of guitar rock
they were churning out
and all these bands that kind of went nowhere,
those Canadian bands.
Meanwhile, you had all these artists
who like did did have singles on
Rap City and elsewhere that, I don't
know, could have been taking up that space
in a different universe.
Just an equitable share.
Yeah, absolutely.
Quite frankly, if young
white kids in Richmond Hill are
freaking out to a song,
then there's no reason
to say, oh, well, this hip hop stuff,
it's just a little to this
or a little to that.
Like, you know, it's just unfair.
And you needed people at the,
you know, music directors
and program directors,
many of whom embraced
Let Your Backbone Slide
because it was a groundswell hit.
But if you didn't have one,
but you just had a good song
or a good enough song to play on radio
to build a career in an industry here in Canada, you deserve the chance, in my opinion.
That's what I did when I was at Flow.
I did everything that was good.
Also, it's a hit that is one of the biggest hits, period.
Because I'm talking about as a kid in school, everybody knew every word to the song.
As much as any other big American song.
There was no other Canadian song.
Like what? Might as well go
for a soda? I can't even think of another song
that we knew all the words to
the song. Candy in the backbeat? Come on.
Honestly, Farley,
I know that we ate into
your NBA draft time and I've got to
tell you this. Firstly,
Wes has moved out of the province. He's gone
to... He's in New Brunswick.
He's in New Brunswick now. I had him on the show two months ago. He's in St. John in New Brunswick. He's in New Brunswick now. Yeah, I had him on the show like two months ago.
He's in St. John, New Brunswick.
But I got to say, I love Maestro Fresh, Wes.
I love Farley Flex, man.
You're a great FOTM.
I think this is your third time popping on.
An absolute honor.
Like, thank you so much for doing this, buddy.
Yeah, this is awesome.
No problem at all.
And thank you for kicking out Let Your Backbone Slide
because I wasn't going to do this episode tonight
if we didn't hear Let Your Backbone Slide
because it all starts with that.
Wow, what a jam.
Thanks so much, buddy.
Get back to your draft.
You guys have a great evening.
Take care, man.
Take care, Farley.
Thanks a lot, guys.
That was so cool.
Yeah, I'm telling you, this guy, the real deal.
And I was kind of like had that moment of like,
oh, he didn't come at 8.30 like he said he would.
Oh, my God.
Where is he?
Because I was so excited to have Farley Flex on the Canadian Hip Hop Show.
I should have told him I'm going to be a free agent in a few weeks.
Oh, God.
Oh, man.
And also, I should have asked him what he's up to now.
But I guess he'll be back on Toronto Mike.
So, here, let's pick up.
Where were we?
Let's get her back in the rhythm here.
Yeah, there's no A in go for a soda, by the way.
I was going to say go for a soda. I had Kim Mitchell on the program, and I called it go for a soda. You humiliated yourself in the rhythm here. Yeah, there's no A in go for a soda, by the way. I was going to say go for a soda.
I had Kim Mitchell on the program, and I called it go for a soda.
You humiliated yourself in front of the music.
He shot me down right away and said, it's just go for soda.
There is no go for a soda.
Definitely go for a soda.
It's not A.
There's no A in the title, I promise you.
Kim Mitchell himself has educated me on the subject.
Speaking of education. Is he like an anti-masker? I don't think so. Or maybe he's just very title. I promise you. Kim Mitchell himself has educated me on the subject. Speaking of education.
Is he like an anti-masker?
I don't think so.
Or maybe he's just very conservative politics.
I never heard that.
I think you're thinking of Eric Clapton.
But okay.
So we have to get moving here.
We got to cook with some gas now.
So that was, I don't know if that was a Rod Black type experience, but what an education.
That guy was there for the dawn of hip hop in this country.
Absolutely.
Well, I remember.
Kudos to you, man.
Yeah. Thanks, man. I remember... Kudos to you, man.
Yeah, because I remember when he showed up on Canadian Idol,
it was like, who is this guy?
And then you would see his resume.
I'm like, oh, shit, like this guy.
This is the, yeah, Farley Flex.
Yeah, this is the guy.
Well, I remember
because I knew all the words
to all the maestro raps
and he used to shout out Farley Flex a lot
in his rhymes, his raps.
I haven't heard him speak all that often.
I've read interviews and seen stuff.
But that means you never listen to Toronto Mike.
There's two full episodes of Farley Flex.
And all those stories.
He's got such a jam.
I'm more of a Bob's Basement guy.
I know you are.
Just being honest.
All right, so Cam, can I kick out your second jam?
Sure. Thank you. This is a surprise choice.
I think this is surprising.
Do you know this song?
I'm not too fluent with this particular jam.
Do you know what it's due?
Honestly, it's triggering memories.
I haven't heard this song in 20 years.
It's kind of a Dan Seals bop.
Hey, quick breaking news before we hear you talk about this jam.
Canada just won gold in the women's eight rowing crew.
Ooh, huge.
The first time in 29 years that Canada took gold.
Can we send the...
Shut up, just soak along.
I would like to take the women's team.
I'd like to go for a soda with them because they've been carrying
all the weight here. The women are killing it.
Oh, I know. I know. Every medal is our women.
We're
shut out right now, I think. That's 11 medals
now and 11 for the women.
Dude zero. Dude that's 11.
That's okay. Next week,
Andre Degrass is going to... Shout out to my
boy Tim. Is Tim on the
chat? Okay, so talk to us, Cam.
Freaks of Reality is the name of this band.
The song Chilachi Lachilo.
Chilachi Lachilo.
Chilachi Lachilo.
This came out in 1994.
You can sort of tell what era this is from.
I mean, I feel like this has sort of that Farside kind of vibe to it.
Definite Farside vibe.
I really want to call them Souls of Mischief. Because it sort of sounds far side kind of vibe to it far side i really want to call them souls
of mischief because they sort of sounds like those guys too um these guys criminally do not
have a lot of details on the internet so i'm going to keep the fun facts at a very high level um they
were nominated for best junior awards back in 1994 kind of a one and done affair this band
um they lost out to a band Ghetto Concept that I feel
like maybe we'll be hearing from
later tonight. I don't know. To give you a sense
who was nominated for Best Rap Album
that year, in addition to Freaks of Reality
and Ghetto Concept, you had
the aforementioned Maestro Fresh West. The album
Nah, This Kid Can't Be From Canada.
This with Search Without the Red Sin is in that.
That's right. Yeah.
You had the first album from
The Rascals, Really Livin', and
I think this is the second Dream Warriors album,
Subliminal Situation.
Now, that year, this has
nothing to do with the Freaks of Reality or
Chilachi Lachilo.
What do you think won Best Song
that year at the Juno Awards? This really
hits home with... Can you say the year again?
1994. Song? Song of the Year. And this, I'll home what uh say the year again 1994 song song
of the year and this i'll just say like what farley flex was saying in terms of cod you know
we had a very like white centric uh canadian music industry at the time uh it was uh superman's dead
uh good guess it was it was could i be your girl by jan arden right yes jan arden yeah so that's uh it's not a great choice anyway um so
don't be insensitive there you go um so this came out a label called step bigger step in bigger
have you heard of this this is like an independent label that was actually distributed by the guys
run out of the basement of play director which again, I feel like is going to come up a lot on this episode.
That was also the label that put out the early Socrates songs.
Didn't we used to light this show?
Did you get lazy?
Didn't we used to have a light?
I got a little bit lazy.
Yeah.
But now people, Tim is enjoying the effects.
Oh, good.
Soon this will happen.
But there's a bit of delay. but soon they'll see me like this.
It'll be really cool.
Okay, please continue.
Okay, final fun fact about Freaks of Haldi and Chilachi Lachilo.
It was featured on the soundtrack of a 1995 movie called Rude.
Do you know this, dude?
Would this have been something you auditioned for?
Rude.
Rude. I'm saying because you are rude is because there's a canadian how rude it was around the same time as boys club
who is in it um do you know this movie mike sounds familiar this is something
oh that's the movie that had chelichelachelo in it who's in that that's right a couple of uh
people that i know are near and dear to your heart.
You had Clark Johnson.
Yeah, because he directed four episodes of The Wire.
The Wire also was...
Including the pilot episode.
And as well...
It is Molly Johnson's brother.
According to Molly Johnson, invented The Wire.
Check the liner notes came from that.
That's epic.
You know who I had a really deep Molly Johnson convo with?
Is Billy Newton Davis.
Really?
They're really tight.
They do the Kensington Market Jazz Festival together.
I could see that.
Like the same vintage.
And we talked,
and I think I was telling,
I was,
what did YYZ say?
He said,
I charmed my way out of it.
But there was some pretty heavy
Molly real talk we had.
I told Billy to listen
to the episode.
I'm going to need to listen to that one as well.
Anyway, also in this movie, Rude, alongside Clark
Johnson, was Deo Ade.
Do you know who that is? Dale Cadeau?
Not Dale Cadeau.
Deo played
BLT. Oh my god. On Degrassi.
And also, there's a Buddy
Cole skit on Kids in the Hall.
That's right. He did a run.
I remember screaming at the
TV, oh my god, that's BLT.
By the way, do you care about this
Kids in the Hall reboot? I'll watch it.
It's on Prime, right? I get Prime
because Monica does it for some shipping
thing, so I get Prime and I will check
it out. I like the Kids in the Hall. Yeah, this seems like
kind of the fourth time they've rebooted this.
Well, they had that series on
CBC called When Death Comes to Death from Next Door.
I can't remember what it was called now.
But it wasn't bad.
I watched it.
I'm a sucker for all the...
Cash and checks.
Why not?
I know when Kevin MacDonald was here, he said that four out of the five had signed on.
They were just waiting on McKinney, I think.
Really?
And then it happened.
So here you go.
God bless.
That's a good song.
I'm surprised. I'm just surprised here. I think. Really? Then it happens. So here you go. God bless. That's a good song. I'm surprised.
I'm just surprised here.
I know.
If you really want the light,
during one of these jams,
I could run in and grab the light
if Stu needs the light.
I don't need the light.
I was doing the Blair Witch thing.
This trade with Max Scherzer,
it's him and Trey Turner
going to the Dodgers.
That's a blockbuster.
For who?
There's a lot going on tonight.
For who?
A bunch of prospects.
There's a lot going on tonight.
Trey Turner also has COVID.
So maybe first guy traded
while he has COVID. They pulled him out
of a game like two days ago.
Wow.
Who's the Turner on the Blue Jays?
Turner Ward. Turner Ward. That's right.
Turner Ward. Yeah. All right. So you guys ready
for my second jam? You said the Tom Candiotti
trade. Right. Knuckleballer.
Here we go.
Down in Jamaica they got
Down in Jamaica they got
Down in Jamaica they got
Down in Jamaica they got
Down in Jamaica they got
Lots of pretty women
When all your money and things
Break your heart I'm the Jama when all your money and things break your heart.
I'm the Jamaican taking charge and living large.
A big time woman for much.
I just barge in your area.
Breaking the barrier, making it merrier.
You cheer me when you hear me and boost your stereo up.
When I arrive, I start smoking a mic.
It's hyping live because I'm awoken.
It's a shame there's not a day rough like this. When Mishy's on this mic, it's not niceness. She's dope.
Underrated.
You're preaching to the choir.
It's no secret to any listener of this program that I am in love with this woman.
You adore her. You adore her.
I adore her. We chatted today because it's Michelle's birthday. Yeah.
So I wrote an Instagram thing and then Mishy Me
said happy birthday Michelle and then I reminded
Mishy Me the reason my daughter is named
Michelle is because I've
been in love with Mishy Me since
Wow, that's pretty wild.
Yeah, and then I said hey, the name
to me it's a mind blow that the namesake, Mishy Mee,
is saying happy birthday to my Mishy Mee.
It's mind blowing.
I love this woman.
You know what?
Farley Flex did talk about Stevie B
getting Maestro the US record deal,
but what he did not mention was
that was not the first US record deal
for a Canadian rapper.
That's right.
Well done.
Mishy Mee always did
the reggae rap hybrid model,
which I fucking love.
Okay, we'll hear more of that later.
But the first US record deal
for a Canadian rapper
went to this woman right here,
Mishy Mee.
She is a fucking hip-hop pioneer,
way underrated.
I hate the fact I can have Mishy Mee come visit
me for an episode of Toronto Mike anytime I want.
I hate it. It's insane. Although I have
had Chuck D on the program. I was going to say that anybody comes
back here. I hate that.
And she was legit. She came out through
the battle rap thing too. She came out. She's a
battle. The New York rappers at the concert
hall. DJ Ron Nelson
would put on these things
those like legendary
she was fucking legendary
this is her with
DJ L.A. Love
and I think L.A. Love
like I don't think
I'm pretty sure
after this album
this is the debut
full album
by Mishimi
DJ L.A. Love
I believe
leads to work
with the
aforementioned
Dream Warriors.
That would line up.
This is the thing I talked to Mishimi with
on her first time she visited.
Mishimi, as you know, fucks up royally
by trying to bring drugs into the country from Jamaica,
and she gets caught.
It completely derails her career.
This is the reason, I think, that she's underrated.
I think because of the legal troubles
that she had after this album.
No one wanted to talk.
That was pre-Ragged Death.
It fucked her up at the border.
It fucked her up pre-Ragged Death.
So it's post this.
Between this and Ragged Death, she has serious legal issues.
And it really, really fucked up her career.
I'm trying to think when she was putting out her first singles,
who were even the other female Canadian or female rappers of anybody?
No, she was doing it with American rappers.
Her first singles.
There were singles before this,
but this is the first album.
Just a few facts,
though, about this
because, yeah,
definitely the first
Canadian rapper
to have a U.S. record deal.
The most notable
female MC
we've ever produced
in this country.
That song came out in 91.
So this album
sold 60,000 copies,
which is a little
underwhelming
when you think of
what the Dream Warriors did.
I was going to say,
that's not bad for Canada.
Okay, not bad. I think that includes the world. I think that is the you think of what the Dream Warriors did. I was going to say, that's not bad for Canada. Okay, not bad.
I think that includes the world.
I think that is the world number, by the way.
Nevertheless.
Includes the USA in there as well.
KRS-One and Scott LaRock deserve a lot of credit for discovering Mishimi.
They're, of course, from Boogie Down Productions.
Rest in peace, Scott LaRock.
I was going to say the late great.
The late great Scott LaRock.
They also had a track that had like...
Step into a world.
Edutainment, as I learned from Karis1.
Okay, I'm a sucker again for these hip-hop reggae blends.
This is a little fun fact for you two,
especially Stu, who's done a lot of Canadian television series.
But Mishimi did appear in the late 80s.
She appeared as herself on both My Secret Identity
and Traitors.
Okay, that's...
My Secret Identity was Jerry O'Connell.
Jerry fucking O'Connell.
And the guy,
that guy who played the man in that show,
Jeff Coat,
whatever,
he was the woman,
he was the guy who brought,
he was the guy who brought Andrea Martin to Toronto
because she was dating him,
and he was going to be in Godspell,
and that's all the shit that went down.
Godspell is basically what was going down just before SCTV.
That's a fun fact.
You know, when Maestro Fresh West made his Toronto Mac debut,
I'm pretty sure he fell asleep, but he was still talking to me.
His eyes closed.
He got comfortable.
And fucking Stu Stone is sleeping over here.
Nothing about Mishimi is a snooze fest.
Can we talk about traitors?
First of all, Mishimi is great.
As soon as the needle dropped, I acknowledge that.
Is that Cynthia Dale or is that Sonia Smith?
It's not Cynthia Dale because that's street legal.
And Heavenly Bodies.
Oh my God.
There's a lot of stuff going on with Heavenly Bodies
lately. Do you think there's time for a reboot?
A reimagination? Kareem, baby.
Kareem's in the house. We should put him
on a mic for this ep. He'd enjoy it.
He's got the lights on.
Actually, he has lights.
He does a lot of work on his backyard.
Do you remember the show
where you could shoot the gun at the TV?
Yeah, the duck hunt?
No, no, no, the TV show.
Oh, there's a TV show?
I didn't know.
It was on Global.
And it was like a...
Train 48?
No, it was like a RoboCop looking guy.
And you can shoot your laser gun at the TV.
Do you remember this, Cam?
Yeah, I just remember duck hunt.
This sounds vaguely familiar.
I don't know.
There was a toy you could buy at the store that was like laser tag kind of gimmick.
I believe it.
I just don't remember it.
And you could shoot the fucking gun at the TV when the show was on.
So the bad guys would show up on the TV and they'd have little squiggles on them during the fucking show.
My point is, I think that that actor that you were talking about from Traitors was on that show.
Okay, he's from My Secret Identity.
Yeah, from My Secret Identity.
Was on Captain Laser.
Oh, he was on Kim's Convenience as well as one of the friends of all of us.
Listen, Tim, you know what I'm, somebody's going to find it in here.
So, Stu, what do you want to say before your second jam, buddy?
There was a show where you could shoot the gun at the TV.
It was like a laser tag gun.
You know what I'm talking about, Cam?
Captain Power now.
Captain Power, baby?
Yeah, I think it was.
Yes.
Okay, I do remember vaguely Captain Power.
Yes.
It was Captain Power.
Captain fucking Power.
Captain Power and the something of tomorrow.
Yes.
Yes.
Somebody in the chat can help us.
We're at live.torontomic.com, by the way.

has got a big memorial section on Monday.
Okay, Stu, what say you before your second jam,
buddy?
This guy's very underrated.
Oh, agreed.
And he recently
made a comeback to music.
We talk about him a lot. Which is very exciting.
But yeah, let's give it a go. Have it. That I'm gonna read. No more words.
Will critics have to speak?
Sing me a swan song.
After the havoc.
That I'm gonna read.
No more words.
Will critics have to speak?
Sing me a swan song.
I'm going punk, John.
Riding over Cuomo, Malcolm, Duck Rock, Gigi Allen.
Suicide, 10th month, trick or treat.
Who are you supposed to be?
Son? Who? Me? Never.
Sorry, Mike Serra, but skills aren't there-a.
Apparently geek, but the speech be terror.
Jones, the man in the mirror.
Die with the king like Ferrer.
Too soon? Never.
Mine, the bollocks, McLaren. No, not again. The man in the mirror Die with the king like Pharah Too soon, never mind
The bollocks, McLaren
No, not again
Is he gonna ever fall off?
No
Next question
No resurrection
A rose on his necktie
Elevator up, tail horrible
I said hi, bye
Waving, cane on
Looking up, up in a way
With my cape off, gone
So yeah, you're listening to a guy called Decisive.
Sure.
And this is probably like a more cheerful Decisive song
because famously Decisive, who's an incredible rapper,
is a very good storyteller who was very ahead of his time
as far as expressing his true self in his music.
I highly suggest checking out some of my favorite songs are Decisive songs.
I picked this song not because it's my favorite of his songs,
but the music video for this song is so fucking awesome.
What's the name of the song, Mike?
This fucking jam is called No More Words.
No More Words is a music video that was directed by Harv.
Oh, your bud.
Yeah.
And Harv and Decisive are both my buds.
But this video is Harv's best video that he's ever done.
And Harv has done, like, tons of fucking videos.
This video, to me, I couldn't believe it when I saw it.
I thought Harv was a genius when I saw this video.
Describe it.
He basically takes the jump man from the Michael Jordan running shoes
and makes him rap while he's walking.
It's insane.
I don't know how the fuck he did it on the budget that I know that they do the videos on.
But anyway, decisive instrumental in my career as well.
Yes.
I was a fan of his.
When I first, I was trying to get a record deal in Toronto, actually.
This guy over at EMI was the big company to sort of try to get signed with.
He was like, listen, I don't know if I can sign you,
but if you ever want to use the studio,
we got this other guy that's making beats all the time.
And I went into the studio and there was Decisive
and he was making a beat.
And within like 10 minutes of meeting each other we made like three songs and one of them was a cover of shoop me and him rapping shoop is that available anywhere it is probably he probably
has it okay anyway jamie kenney and i end up performing shoop on blowing up and jamie does
decisive's part on that.
When Jamie and Kenny and I got together,
Decisive is the one that wrote the beat and a lot of the words for Rolling with Saget.
So I definitely did Rolling with Saget with Decisive.
How many albums did you sell?
I don't remember.
Not as many as...
No, no, he's not a big sales guy,
but he is critically acclaimed. And is Derek Kristoff... No, no, He's not a big sales guy, but he is critically acclaimed.
And Derek Kristoff is...
No, no.
I mean blowing up.
Oh, blowing up.
Blowing up half a million.
It sold a couple of records.
More than Sloan.
But I'm glad you are kicking out a decisive...
He was also in the movie Scarecrows.
He's in my movie Scarecrows as an actor.
Well, before I ever met you,
I was so big on this guy.
We had lengthy conversations about his Toronto Mike debut,
and he pulled the
plug at the very last very much like that that's what he does and he cited some uh mental health
concerns well you know what apparently and i'm really proud proud of him uh he has conquered a
lot of those fears and a lot of things that were going on that were holding him down and it seems
like he's doing great and uh i love him i'm rooting for him and you know i
went to bat for him big time and he's fucking been there for me so our paths always i've been pushing
decisive always in life so i'm not gonna stop now and uh when we're playing the best canadian hip
hop artists i want to include decisive i'm glad you did i like that like that like two artists
supporting each other like Like I say this very
He's much better than me.
Yeah, but nonetheless,
you guys are both
doing your thing
and helping each other along.
He's a real rapper.
Like he can,
his lyrics,
when I listen to his songs,
I can hear,
I listen for the words.
I want to know
what he's saying
because he's always
got the clever,
the clever hidden lines.
I love it.
So this isn't like
Mike throwing verses
at his kids. Not at all. I actually suggest. So this isn't like Mike throwing verses at his kids.
Not at all.
I actually suggest
you go and listen
to some of his
earlier works, Kim.
It's fucking crazy.
Yeah, no,
definitely.
I think he's,
where is he?
Like Barry?
Where does he live?
I'm not sure.
He moved up north.
I haven't seen him
in a minute, so.
Okay.
Well, I'm going to
still try to get him
on Toronto Mike,
and if I do,
maybe I'll get Stu
to co-host with me.
You look spooky.
This is a Blair Witch Project. I don't think you need me for Mike. And if I do, I hope maybe I'll get Stu to co-host. It looks spooky. Like this is Blair Witch Project.
I don't think you need me for that.
Well,
I know,
but maybe it'd be fun to have you there.
Uh,
what say you before your third jam cam?
Um,
well,
we're halfway through.
We have not heard 13,
nothing blue Jays apparently.
Ooh.
So lots is happening while we're recording.
This is a big,
big sports.
And by the way,
because I really,
uh,
I'm a big fan of Penny Oleksiak,
I will probably stream that 100-meter freestyle live for us.
So you'll hear it in the headphones.
There you go.
That'd be good.
We could do it.
I don't have the written permission by the IOC,
but I'm going to fucking do it anyway.
Oh, they don't track that.
They don't track that, yeah.
The games.
The games.
Not the Olympics.
It's a pirate stream anyway. We haven't heard Drake yet.. The games, the games. And this is a pirate stream. Not the Olympics, yeah. It's a pirate stream, anyway.
We haven't heard Drake yet.
Will Drake get Hanson?
Probably get Hanson.
Time will tell.
This artist we're about to hear,
Drake,
very instrumental,
and this fellow is Ascent,
but this guy's also done
a lot of writing
for a lot of other artists.
Kind of a sneaky,
one of those sneaky names
in Canadian hip-hop
who's quite massive
in his own right. Yeah, this what Saga feel like in the nighttime Watch what she do when the lights shine
Drunk niggas tryna talk in the strip club Shawty silhouette look like a dollar sign
Caught up, that's just how a nigga brought up
Blowing ones for your loony ass niggas Straight bells for your toony ass niggas
My niggas bigger than a bouncer Roll up in the bitch, still smell like a hound
Right quick, right quick Tight jeans on so she feel my shit
what's so funny over there? Just a tweet.
A funny tweet.
The name of this artist, Party Next Door.
Yeah.
All one word.
The song, this could be in like T-Dot anthems. This is one you could count on.
Johnny Dover could break from Toronto,
though this is sort of an anti-Toronto song.
Party Next Door based in Mississauga.
And this was his debut single.
Features a memorable video of literally people leaving Toronto on the QEW
and going to hang out in a parking lot,
assumedly somewhere in Mississauga or perhaps Brampton.
Mike, you familiar with Party Next Door?
Oh my God, yes. Of course, of course.
Of course.
Big fucking deal.
Here's some other, this is the Esri Geography Corner.
Some other artists, musical artists, who called Mississauga home at one time.
Shout out to Mike Gragowski.
There you go.
So we've got Alessia Cara.
We've got the band Billy Talent.
We've got Nicole Appleton from All Saints.
Didn't she marry a Gallagher brother?
I believe so, yeah.
Liam Gallagher.
Mississauga, the longtime home of Oscar Peterson, yeah. Liam Gallagher. Mississauga, the long time home of Oscar Peterson, even
though he's not born in Mississauga. Well, we claim
him here. Also, do we know who
Phil X is? Not to be mistaken
with Director X? Phil
X? No, I have no clue who Phil X is.
Phil X is the guitarist, current
guitarist for Bon Jovi
replaced Richie Sambora. Well, you did say that we were
halfway there. There you goambara. Well, you did say that we were halfway there.
There you go.
Whoa.
Yeah, yeah.
I see.
Phil X from Mississauga.
He's been with Bon Jovi for like six years.
Phil X-Posito.
There's a lot of Xs out there.
Have you noticed that?
Like even DJ X was referenced by Farley Flex.
Well, there's Bush X too.
Yes, there was Bush X.
Fun fact in this.
There was a Brie X, if you were an investor.
Traders.
Yeah, didn't end well for Brie X, but nevertheless.
I invested everything in Brie X.
So did I.
He's a Ponzi scheme.
Party Next Door said he was inspired by Boys to Men, Blackstreet 112, and Jodeci.
Oh, you said it.
Please say it properly.
Now I'm just like fucking with you.
Party Next Door was also the first artist
ever signed to Drake's OVO Sound record label in 2013.
Wow.
He put out this song when he was 19.
Wow.
Okay, but he's famously written a lot of songs
for a lot of other people.
Perhaps most famously,
he wrote the song Work for Rihanna.
Wow. Speaking of Drake.
Yeah.
You know where they filmed it?
At the fucking place on the east side
there.
Director X directed it and produced by
Harv and Rodness.
Is that true?
Really?
Holy shit.
These guys are legit. Everything's Yep. Holy shit. Yeah. These guys are legit.
Everything's happening.
Holy fuck.
We're getting excited
about Mike Epple
and Dick Smythe.
These guys are actually
doing cool stuff.
Party Next Door,
in addition to guesting
on tracks by Drake,
is guested on stuff
by Major Lazer,
DJ Khalid,
Kanye West,
Zayn.
DJ Khalid?
Khalid.
Yeah,
Zayn's from One Direction.
One Direction guy and Calvin Harris.
Yeah, big deal.
Yeah, this song, to give you a sense of how popular this song is,
198 million streams on Spotify, 75 million streams on YouTube.
Those are Shakespeare my butt numbers.
Huge.
Exactly.
Pennies on each stream for those.
Oh, Penny Alexiuk. Yeah.
Shout out to Ivan Pehar and the company he works
for. Call me, Ivan. Yeah.
Party Next Door. Call me back.
Inspector Gadget's niece, Penny.
Right. That's right. Oh, yeah. Don Adams
was the voice. And Bree,
what's her name? Cree Summer. Yeah.
Whose father is Tommy Chong?
Is Tommy Chong his father? Am I getting
people mixed up? Who?
I think you got that wrong.
Do I have that wrong?
Or Brad Penny.
Brad Penny.
There's a relation.
Cree Summer's dad.
I gotta remember.
Franks.
Yeah, that's Summer.
That's, yeah.
But that's a sibling, right?
Yep.
Okay.
A rainbow son, Franks.
Right.
Right, right, right, right, right.
Okay.
Can I kick out my third jam?
No.
Go for it.
Here we go. Turn this up. Yo. Okay. Can I kick out my third jam? No. Go for it. Here we go.
Turn this up.
Yo.
Uh-huh.
Yes.
No, no. No beat yet.
Yeah.
No beat.
Uh-huh, uh-huh.
Bring it.
Bring it.
Heaven only knows.
Uh-huh.
Because I don't understand.
Understand now.
Won't you tell me please.
Tell me.
What's the master plan.
Master plan.
Spend so many days.
Many days.
Sitting on a cloud.
Sitting on a cloud.
Heaven only knows.
Only God knows.
So I'll just move around.
Yo, tell him.
Now I break out of my physical shell and exhale past the so-called body.
Used to go to the party, but now I're sitting chill with a pen in the pad.
Dropping ill philosophical science, me and my dad, we talk about life and how it started.
How we departed from life's path and probable right math.
The task at hand is making people understand that we're not who we think we are.
Within this land of the lost, the cost of souls could be so high.
People be getting high, wondering why we die, but it's all planned.
Forget your fear, take the hand.
We keep on returning, because the lessons need learning.
Concerning the fact, I sing and I rap.
I hold this mic contact.
I don't want to bring it down, because I actually really like this song.
Sounds great in the headphones.
Yeah, doesn't it?
And it's like the first, the early, the early days.
I was going to say, was this his first big hit, I feel like?
I don't know even how big it is because it's the next album that breaks him.
Because the next album has Crab Bucket and, you know, Sunday Morning and all that stuff,
which really breaks him.
But this is, it's still asleep.
No.
Can you just see if he's got like warm saliva?
Like when Homer, remember they thought Homer was dead and they checked his saliva?
He's got the Delta variant.
Well, this is Chaos.
God forbid.
Chaos, and this is the song Heaven Only Knows.
Chaos is great.
And Chaos is great.
Chaos, of course, is Kevin Brereton.
That is the name of Chaos.
This is the first single from Exit.
I think Farley Flex mentioned Play-D Record.
There's a cameo, a great Play-D record.
By the way, there's a great doc
coming out, but there's a Play-D-Record
cameo in the video for Heaven
Only Knows by
Chaos. But yeah, it was the next album after
this. I love this song. I still love it. It's like my
favorite Chaos song still. Did you spend any time
there, Mike? That seems like somewhere you would have
popped into. I bought mixtapes there.
A Play-D-Record?
They used to sell mixtapes also.
And that's where I heard Cardinal or any of these guys were,
because they would be mixed in with the American acts on these mixtapes.
Totally.
It was right next door to Sam the Record Man pretty much too.
So it was handy.
So Exit, that's where this song comes from if you're trying to track it down.
But the next album that Chaos puts out is called Joyful and that's a big fucking breakthrough i mean that was just mainstream big
multi-format hit so many uh so many big hits but i think maybe crab bucket might be the biggest one
i don't know i remember that was so big they would play it on edge 102 yeah like it yeah that's right
whenever they cross over a hip hop jam they did it with
Lose Yourself
they would do it
Hey Ya
they did it
Hey Ya
well Lose Yourself
for sure
see even this part
listen to this part
right
yeah
and they don't want that
and they don't want that
and they don't want that
breathe down
breathe down
they will start revolution
Babylon cannot defeat them you know what songs like that in the present day juice world, lucid dreams.
Yeah.
They play all the time on the late, late, late.
The late, great.
I can smell cream in the background and it really just, it just, it feels right, man.
Just hanging out.
Summer nights.
So here's a fun fact.
You ready?
You guys sitting down?
Is Stu awake?
From 1996 to 2016. So that's a fun fact. You ready? You guys sitting down? Is Stu awake? From 1996 to 2016, so that's 20 years, okay?
From 1996 to 2016, Chaos was the third best-selling Canadian hip-hop artist in Canadian history.
The second was some band you might have heard earlier in the program, Swollen Members.
So Drake is one with a bullet.
Swollen Members is two.
Chaos is three.
There must have been some article in Chart Magazine
that someone was updating Wikipedia with.
Well, Rosie Gray Teo says it's true,
so I have to trust it to be fucking true.
Rosie Gray Teo needs to update some of the freaks of reality and stuff.
You've got lots of work to do.
I mean, that person has lots of work to do.
So we've heard Maestro,
which I didn't kick out, but if he didn't
kick it out, I was going to fucking kick it out. I'm glad
he kicked it out. But I did Dream Warriors,
I did Mishimi, and now I've done
Chaos, and Stew Stone.
What's your third jam, brother?
So, we know that Let Your Backbone Slide,
that's like the Joe Carter home run,
right? Like Carter did the Philly.
That's like, as far as like hip hop.
Sure.
Breakthrough.
Or is that the Alomar home run against Eckersley?
No, I'm going to call it the Joe Carter for the sake of what I'm trying to do here.
It's your analogy.
That's the more punk.
That's the Joe Carter home run, put Canada on the map, yada yada.
With you.
Let your backbone slide.
Correct.
The next artist that I'm going to play is the Jose Bautista bat flip of Canadian hip-hop
and a man that Harv and Adam Rodness are with right now.
What?
Should I get Donald Shabib over here?
Right now.
I need to know about this.
They're with him right now.
Well, let's play it and talk about it.
All right.
It's a big one.
It's a big fucking jam.
This is the Jose Bautista bat flip.
Sold a few. Started from the bottom, now the whole team here Started from the bottom, now the whole team here Started from the bottom, now the whole team here
N***a started from the bottom, now we here
Started from the bottom, now my whole team here
N***a started from the bottom, now we here
Started from the bottom, now the whole team here
Started from the bottom, now the whole team here
I done kept it real from the jump
Living at my mama house, we'd argue every month
Living at my mama house, we'd argue every month
N***a I was tryna get it on my own
Working all night, traffic on the way home Working all night, traffic on the way home Living at my mama's house, we'd argue every Monday I was trying to get it on my own
Working all night, traffic on the way home
And my uncle calling me like, where you at?
Where you at?
I gave you the keys, told you bring it right back, nigga
I just think it's funny how it goes
How it goes
Now I'm on the road, half a million for a show
And we started from the bottom, now we're here
Not getting Hanson tonight
How could you do this episode and not play Drake? Not getting Hanson tonight.
How could you do this episode and not play Drake?
That would be stupid.
It would be like doing a sibling episode and not playing Hanson.
Started from the bottom.
You know, I really, I think I've said this before, but I mean, when it comes to hip hop music, he did start from the bottom, below the bottom.
Because this is a city that was not getting much love at the time.
But, but, but, but, but, but, if I may.
Below the bottom, you wouldn't be on a popular television show.
Mike, I'm going to make a point, and then you can rebut.
Oh.
Okay?
I don't need to be interrupted.
Oh.
Four more fucking weeks of this bullshit. When I'm coming to Drake's aid, here's don't need to be interrupted. Four more fucking weeks of bullshit.
When I'm coming to Drake's aid, here's what I need to say.
And does he need it?
This guy was a child actor on Degrassi where he played a character, Jimmy in the wheelchair, on Degrassi from Canada.
He had to overcome that to become the biggest rap star in the history of rap.
That is starting from the bottom.
Now we're here because that is a lot to overcome for somebody to be accepted in the hip-hop world.
This guy even got exposed as this Ghost Rider thing happened.
Nothing.
He brushed it off his shoulder, got even bigger.
Back to back.
Unbelievable.
Speaking of Joel Carter's home run.
And if you watch this music video,
you'll notice
the first song I played, Mike,
was Choclair,
directed by Director X.
The second song I played
was Decisive,
directed by Harv.
Started from the bottom video,
directed by Director X, produced by Harv, started from the bottom video, directed by Director X,
produced by Harv.
Whoa.
Harv's in the music video.
He plays the shopper's
drug mark boss.
I was going to say,
this is a shopper's drug mark.
Do you know what shoppers it is?
Do you know?
I don't know what shoppers
they shot that at.
It's like snowing.
Yeah, they're in a blizzard.
He's in the convertible.
Great, great video.
It brought Toronto back.
I mean, it just makes you think
like then after that,
the Jays got good. And it that, the Jays got good.
The Raptors got good.
Trudeau became primus.
Everything worked out.
That's Drake.
You know what?
He's the fucking man.
Those are simpler times.
They seem like a trillion years ago.
He comes into the room.
I've been on a shoot with him.
He comes in the room and he's like the fucking rock.
But have you had a conversation with him?
I mean, like the way we're talking.
Like joking and kibitzing.
We've kibitzed, for sure.
He's very funny. He's very charming.
He's like the rock. I'm telling you, he comes in.
All eyes are on him.
He's a member of the tribe.
He is. All eyes are on him.
And he delivers. You he delivers he gives everybody
the experience to go home and they're not gonna anybody who's been in a set with him for the most
part are gonna go back with a great encounter they're gonna be like oh my god i met drake you
know what he actually was really funny and really nice i had jake goldsby on the show and they did
that degrassi reunion sure yeah yeah he was telling me about that experience. I will say I'm a huge fan of Drake, and I got nothing but time for him,
and I think he's awesome.
He started from the bottom, and now he's here.
I heard he's the most successful musician, Toronto rapper,
Canadian rapper of all time.
Yeah.
I mean, that's not a rumor.
Would you say he's the biggest Canadian musician of all time?
Could be.
Debatably, but there's a few contenders.
I don't know if there's such a debate anymore.
Bieber's a contender.
But the charts show differently.
Drake has more number ones than anybody.
Bieber's got a lot of number ones, too.
Bieber just started getting number ones.
Drake's been getting number ones.
It took Drake a while to get his first number one, to be quite honest,
because I follow this very closely.
I actually think maybe Bieber might have more than Drake.
No way.
I will bet you $100 right now.
I was going to say, the weekend's got to be in the
conversation.
You guys are nuts.
I can call my buddy Eli.
I can have this
info. I'll play a song and have it
in one minute.
David Wilcox.
Do the bear cut.
Otherwise, yeah, if you're
going by number ones,
it's tough to compete with the new
Canadians.
I'm on live on the Toronto Mic Show and I'm calling you.
Is that alright?
Yeah, so we're having this debate that
who's the biggest selling
Canadian artist?
What Canadian artist has had has the, what Canadian artist
has had the most number ones?
Oh,
most number ones?
I almost wanted to say,
I would put like,
Bryan Adams
or Our Lady Peace
in the conversation.
More than Drake?
I gotta hang up on you.
Are you nuts?
Yeah,
more than Drake.
Who is this?
More than Drake,
yeah,
I would say more than Drake.
Our Lady fucking Peace?
Our Lady Peace has more
number one songs than Drake. They have zero number one songs. I'm not Lady fucking Pease. Our Lady Pease has more number one songs than Drake.
They have zero number one songs.
I'm not talking about in Canada.
He's thinking of Mother Earth.
Give him a break.
I thought you were just talking about in Canada.
No, no.
I'm talking about on planet Earth.
Oh, planet Earth.
Who has the most number ones?
Yes.
Who has a Canadian?
Yes.
Tea Party.
Bieber could even be in the conversation. Wow, you're fucking nuts.
Didn't Bieber just get his first number one like two years ago?
No, I'm going to have this data for you in a moment.
Sorry, who is this?
This is my buddy Eli the Creep.
Okay.
Okay, tell us who it is.
Eli has produced such hits as Stupid Love.
He wrote that song, Lady Gaga.
He works with Childish Gambino.
This guy's the fucking man.
This guy knows it.
I thought he knew his shit, but he's out here saying it ain't Drake.
Our Lady Peace.
It could be Bieber.
It's not Drake?
Um, no.
I say it's either Drake, Weekend, or Bieber.
Okay, so do you want me to tell you some stuff?
Let's get the real.
He has the most entries by far.
Guy Lombardo.
Yeah, he's number one.
So the first Bieber to go number one was What Do You Mean?
And then Sorry.
Yeah, What Do You Mean?
Eli had a song on that album, by the way.
What Do You Mean?
Sorry.
Love Yourself.
Yeah, that's already 2013.
I'm the one.
The guy was out for seven years at that point.
Desposito.
All right.
Stuck With You.
What am I at now?
Six.
These are number one hits?
Yeah, these are all number one.
Peaches was number one. So that's seven, right? Now let's do Drake. Seven number ones at now? Six. These are number one hits? Yeah, these are all number one. Peaches was number one.
So that's seven, right?
Now let's do Drake.
Seven number ones for the Biebs.
Feature.
Drake.
Okay, Drake has.
Primary artists only.
It's tied.
It's tied.
It's tied.
Drake has Work.
Yeah.
One Dance.
Yeah.
God's Plan.
God's Plan.
Nice For What.
Nice For What.
In My Feelings.
In My Feelings.
Toosie Slide.
Toosie Slide.
What's Next. What's Next?
Tied 7-0. It is 7-0
tie for leading most number one.
What about the Wicked?
You should have bet $100, Mike.
You would have pushed. I bet Weekend
might be like $5-8.
Can't Feel My Face, The Hills,
Starboy,
Heartless,
Blinding Lights
That's five
And then Save Your Tears
So Drake is number one
I wasn't wrong
I wasn't wrong either
No
Just like
This is like the Skydome
Versus Exhibition Stadium
Rolling Stones concert
The two times
That we've had
Passionate arguments
We've both been right
When we both think we're right
It gets very passionate
Oh that light just came on
Okay
I'm going to turn off my
I'm going to lose the battery here.
So, that's a great selection.
Drake did not get...
Shout out to, by the way, to 40.
Shout out to Eli the Creep.
40, the son of Donald Shabib, who directed Going Down the Road.
It's fucking huge, right?
He's a medical guy.
Is he the FOTM, or who is?
No, he came...
Peter Gross talked to him on the phone,
and then that aired on a Peter Gross episode of Toronto Mike,
but Donald hasn't been over yet.
Harv and Rodness tonight,
they're working together doing the Drake Migos video shoot
that's happening not that far from here.
Why aren't you there?
They asked me to come there,
and I told them I had to come do this.
Well, this is more fucking important.
You have four more to go, bitch.
That's what I'm trying.
Don't you call someone a bitch that stayed here.
I'm here. Can we four more to go, bitch. That's what I'm... Don't you call someone a bitch that stayed here. I'm here.
Can we go after?
No.
No.
Nobody's going anywhere.
I came here.
That was the decision I made.
And I'm sick about it.
Chila, chila, chilo.
Yes, Cam, what do you want to...
Okay, three more weeks.
Seriously, what's the address?
Three more weeks.
We're talking like a soundstage?
Three more weeks.
I don't even know what to say.
Where would they shoot a video of?
You could be hanging with Drake tonight,
and you chose to hang with Sam and Mike?
That's because I love you guys, so fuck you.
I don't anymore.
Oh.
And this guy wants to be on the radio in Kingston.
With this attitude.
That potty mouth is going to get you in so much shit.
The CRTC is going to like...
Bob Willett's ass will be grass if he puts you on the air.
Speaking of grass, shout out Kareem, and I want to say, you're allowed to swear at 5.30TC is going to like. Bob Willett's ass will be grass if he puts you on the air. Speaking of grass, shout out Kareem.
And I want to say, you're allowed to swear at 5.30 in the morning until 6.
You're allowed to swear.
Until 6 a.m.
You're allowed to swear.
So I could be like, fuck, fuck, fuck.
And then it's 5, 6 o'clock.
And I'm like, no more swearing.
I will say those are prime like CanCon graveyard hours.
Like you're going to be like packing in the like headstones.
You'll be going against Jim Richards.
I think that's Jim Richards time slot.
Jim Richards. Hey, you guys, Richards' time slot. Jim Richards.
You guys, have I told you guys about McKay's CEO forums?
A little bit.
I want to just tell you that they have a podcast called the CEO Edge Podcast.
Right.
Fireside Chats.
Oh.
Nancy McKay talks to inspiring CEOs.
Is there actual fire?
And thought leaders.
There might be.
I hear a crackle in the background.
I literally posted the latest episode
on torontomic.com today.
All you FOTMs would do me a huge service
if you would.
A huge service.
If you would listen to the CEO Edge podcast
from McKay CEO Forums.
Do that.
Thank you.
Mike Majewski, you're a good man. You know your real you. Mike Majeski,
you're a good man.
You know your real estate.
You've been ripping up
the Mimico real estate scene.
You're in the know
in Mimico.
Realestatelove.ca.
Reach out to Mike Majeski.
Tell him
Toronto Mike sent ya.
Cam,
what do you want to say
before your last jam?
So,
we got Anthony Rizzo
going to the Yankees.
Oh,
I forgot to go to the swimming.
What happened in the swimming? By the way, big case for Paul Anka being the to the Yankees. Oh, I forgot to go to the swimming. What happened in the swimming?
By the way, big case for Paul Anka being the GOAT Canadian of all time.
Like, seriously, Guy Lombardo.
I can search that in two seconds.
I have it here.
I do like Paul Anka.
So is this a live?
This is a live feed, okay?
We just saw Penny introduced.
This is coverage of the Olympic Games.
Were you watching when young Maggie McNeil...
Are you kidding me?
Are you fucking kidding me?
I'm watching everything that's happening until like 11.30 p.m.
And then I pick it up again at like 6.30 or something.
I didn't know you were this into it.
Ever since 84 when I watched Brian Williams do the L.A.
He's the guy.
Alex Bauman?
Yep.
Victor Davis.
Victor Davis.
The late great.
Yeah.
It's just coming.
I'm going to turn it up
for the actual race,
but I'm going to quickly look
and see how many...
What was the act you were asking
about Paul Anka?
Yes.
He's got a couple.
Hold on.
He's got Diana and Lonely Boy and You're Having My Baby.
That's three.
He's got three.
Puppy Love.
Anyone else you're thinking of?
Well, there you go, 1236.
I tried, buddy.
Brian Adams, but he's probably like not number one hits.
I'll tell you.
Hold on.
Kate Campbell.
He probably has four hits, I'm saying.
Heaven.
Five.
Everything I Do, I Do It For You, All For Love, I do it for you all for love. And have you ever really loved a woman?
I almost picked that song all for love on our episode.
Last big hits.
But here it is.
This is hard too.
I don't think he's got any check.
I don't think any,
but here we go.
Okay.
Sure.
Records in three different events.
50 free.
Don't tell the starter.
Just get ready.
I'm Skirk, the European champion.
This is just a stacked field.
McKeon, best time so far here.
Here we go.
Starters.
Key for Penny is she's got to get as close as she can
to these speed humans on the first half.
Radio broadcast.
Penny Alexiak's time in the semifinals was 25-6-7.
She'll need to be faster than that.
She is up in lane number two.
Campbell's in three.
McKeon's in four.
And watch Siobhan Haughey.
She was the fastest at the 50 in the semifinals in lane number five.
Well, the beauty of this is that the two Rockets in lane one and three,
Campbell, the Aussie, and Whitesell American,
might drag Alexiak with them on the way out on the first 50.
The Aussie and Whitesell American might drag Oleksiak with them on the way out on the first 50.
So Penny Oleksiak is sitting in seventh place.
Right where she was in Rio.
Can she find the same magic up front?
It is the Australian McKeon in lane four.
And Kate Campbell in lane three is really charging.
This is different for Campbell.
This is different than what she did last time when she faded. Now she not fading alexiax running out of real estate on the way home here
she's closing it is emma mckeon emma mckeon for gold and penny alexiax misses the medal she is
just about there 52 59 and it's a canadian record but it's a gold medal for Emma McKeon. Where's Emma McKeon
from? Is she Australian? She's Australian.
Wait, did our girl finish
in the top three? No.
No medal for Canada in this event.
Penny did not get a medal but apparently it's a Canadian
best but that will get
you to the podium today.
YYZ Gord says RCMP's
over with the seasons. Although I don't think it would be them.
This is like more a CRTC.
You never know when you fuck up the IOC.
It's like a Lauren Honigman would serve you some papers.
I got Lauren on line two.
All right.
Do you want me to just play your final joke?
Yeah, just play it.
This is like kind of an obscure one.
Shocking.
Do you know this?
You must remember this guy.
Yes, of course.
I do remember him.
Juno worked for me.
I think Ernest.
Well, he's Mr. Metro.
That's right.
That was massive.
All over much music.
But this is not Mr. Metro,
because that would make too much sense.
Yeah.
No, this has that crossover
with that electric circus,
early 90s dance music vibe. No man could ever forget her. Style and grace all her own. Sitting like a queen upon a throne.
I played the tune that drew her closer.
She took my hand and showed me her culture.
Opened up my eyes and gave me peace.
Sheltered from the storm to save the least.
A world apart, but we felt the same.
Nothing to lose and a whole lot to gain.
I looked to the stars to serve as my witness.
Who says you can't say yo to a princess?
Who says you can't say yo? So princess? Who says you can't say yo?
So good for you to pick him.
I wish you picked Mr. Metro, though.
Yeah.
That's the jam.
This is a good one.
For some reason, I didn't really know that one,
but I remember this song for whatever reason.
Devon?
Was it Devon?
I think it was Devon.
Yeah, Devon.
Devon.
Not Devon White.
Not Devon White.
Right.
Devon, who says you can't...
He's a fucking sleep.
Pinch his nose.
What are you talking about? Anyway. Devon, who says you can't... He's a fucking sleep. Pinch his nose.
Devin, who says you can't say yo to a
princess? Mike, do you know where
Devin's from? No.
Toronto. He's also from
Mississauga, from Malton.
Okay, yeah. He used to play hockey at Malton Arena.
Well, you know who else did? A couple of
famous players. Paul Coffey.
Oh.
A gentleman who Stu and I Paul Coffey. Oh. Wow.
And a gentleman who Stu and I.
That's a big one.
That's a big one.
49 goals one year.
Mike Pekka.
Mike Pekka.
Yeah, that's right.
Former Maple Leaf great.
Well, Stu and I used to hang out with Mike Pekka's parents who were also card dealers.
Cam once sold a chicken carcass, an Eden Swiss chalet chicken carcass.
Half Eden to Mike Pekka's parents.
Like that's not even a work.
Like, that's a shoot.
That's unbelievable.
Yeah, and you know also who grew up in Malton?
You should know this.
Leonard?
It's an FOTM.
I probably do know.
One of your favorite episodes.
Strombo.
Strombo.
Yeah, I knew he was a Rexdale guy.
Very good.
So, yeah, Devin, like, really in that period between Maestro
and then when folks like Cardi and Chaos started to show up,
that kind of mid-90s.
I will say like, you know, we heard Dream Warriors and Maestro
and we were just saying, oh, these songs hold up.
This one, I'm not sure.
This does not hold up.
I'll just say this sounds very much of the era.
Sounds like the Ninja Turtles soundtrack song.
Not the one from the Pizza Hut
Like Turtle Power
Turtle Power, that guy
Partners in Crime
I thought that was organized rhyme too
It rhymes
Doesn't this sound kind of like
Now have you guys heard of a song
Called Can't Repress the Cause
Yeah, this was like
Sort of like
We're all in the same game But of Canada Some of the artists in that called Can't Repress the Cause. Yeah, this was like sort of like our...
We're all in the same game,
but of Canada.
Right.
Some of the artists in that,
in addition to Devin,
go right ahead.
Mishimi.
Mishimi was there.
Who else?
Maestro Fresh West.
I kind of remember this song
now that I'm hearing it.
Maestro Fresh West?
You can't say yo to a princess.
No, this I remember.
It's just Mr. Metro
had more much music exposure,
in my humble opinion. Yeah, this was in the mix too just Mr. Metro had more much music exposure in my humble opinion.
Yeah, this was in the mix too.
I have a couple years on you.
Who else was in that?
Don't tell me.
It was called Dance Appeal,
the super group, by the way.
Kish?
No, we had the Dream Warriors.
Dream Warriors, of course.
We had somebody we heard
very, very early
in our run of Pandemic Fries,
Area Fashion.
Oh my God.
Saving Myself for You.
I think that was like the second episode.
Who also tragically died in a car accident.
Oh, my God.
And a couple of other artists that were in it.
Mike, you're going to like this.
Because I think we missed this last week.
The Northern Lights Force Fit.
We had Lorraine Segato.
From Parachute Club.
Parachute Club.
And we also had Leroy Sibbles.
Great Toronto reggae artist
used to play down at the
how about Socrates
any Socrates
Socrates a bit
before his time
right
this was nominated
for best rap recording
at the 1993
Junos
this is from the
the album
Keep It Slammin'
he lost out to
oh no
sorry he won
he won he won!
He won! He beat out Maestro Zone. That was the third album
from Maestro. That featured Conducting Things,
Private Symphony, nothing at all. It was probably the second album.
Wait, no, it wasn't called Maestro Zone.
It was called Black Tie Affair.
I don't know. There was something called Maestro Zone.
So the first is Symphony in Effect, then it's Black Tie Affair.
So maybe, is it the third album?
Maybe it's the third album.
Devin beat out Maestro.
He beat out Organized Rhyme.
And he beat out, I didn't know this band had a different name at the start.
The Ragamuffin Rascals, who later shorn their name to Just the Rascals.
Wow, I would love to hear some Rascals.
Yeah, so Devin kind of like faded.
It's not going to happen.
The only other thing he did in 1997, he reliquited to Vancouver,
signed to an indie label called rated r records
uh where he released an ep and a single called pressure that was recorded with someone named
oran isaacs do you remember who oran isaacs was because i saw this name i'm like i know this
person not not and not uh oral hershizer no oranin Isaacs was the band leader on the Mike Bullard show.
Oh my goodness, Mike fucking Bullard show.
Now, Orin Isaacs' resume is,
I'll just say Google him.
He's done a lot of stuff with everyone,
including Mariah Carey,
but a lot of Canadian greats,
including three Northern Lights.
Orin Isaacs has worked with Anne Murray,
Bird and Cummings,
and Thunder Bay's own Paul Schaefer.
Okay, that's big.
Those are three big fucking names you named there.
A lot of force fits. Well done, Cam.
I know you weren't comfortable with this topic.
Why do you say that? A little out of your
comfort zone, and your pics reflect
that. Speaking of the comfort zone, we used to go to the
comfort zone to watch some of these rappers.
That's right. Maybe you saw
this guy. I've been hunting for him for years.
You guys ready for my final jam?
This has never been played on the show?
Is this Daddy Rumble?
No, I checked.
We've never played this.
You're thinking of like pre-pandemic Friday
we played it when you visited.
Oh, baby.
Is BPSL still there?
Ladies and gentlemen,
let's get ready to rumble!
Is this rap?
It's definitely hip-hop.
It's happening, everybody.
Oh, man.
You ready?
Sick.
I fucking love this so much.
This holds up.
This is great.
It does to me.
It's awesome.
Listen to this.
The verse is better than the chorus.
Rumble MC.
That's right. That's me. That's me. That's me. That's me. That's me. That's me. That's me. That's me. That's me. That's me. That's me. That's me. That's me. That's me. That's me. That's me. That's me. That's me. That's me. That's me. That's me. That's me. That's me. That's me. That's me. That's me. That's me. That's me. That's me. That's me. That's me. That's me. That's me. That's me. That's me. That's me. That's me. That's me. That's me. That's me. That's me. That's me! Hear me now? That's right, that's me, ooh-wee Baby, she just push me from the wall of wine from me city
Everybody did a bubble in the vicinity
But I broke out about 3.30, yeah
It was between two rival parties
The most I've ever seen a crack in the neighborhood
You see the game, I just tried to check them out of the party
But then someone followed them and who's it? Bam, bam, everybody just hit the floor Holy fuck.
That's waking you up, eh, buddy?
Honestly.
He sounded a bit out of breath, which I was enjoying.
It was a very physical performance.
It's authentic.
So where do I begin? The song is called Safe.
The artist is Rumble.
You heard
Farley Flex reference
Rumble and Strong. We did.
This is half of Rumble and Strong.
Does he know where Rumble is?
No, I asked everybody.
I've asked Mishimi, Maestro
Fresh West, Danny O, I asked everybody. Nobody knows. I've asked Mishimi, Maestro Fresh West,
Danny O,
DJ Ron Nelson.
I'm asking anybody
who will listen to me
and come on the show,
where the fuck is Rumble?
I can tell you,
I used to drive to record
like Magic School Bus episodes
and I'd be bumping this song.
It's like,
you know what I mean?
I had the cassette single
for sure.
It's legit.
Big hit.
So, okay,
so a little education.
Okay, so former T.O. Vice members MC Rumble and DJ Jam on Strong
recorded a couple of songs for the Breaking Out compilation EP
on Up Your Records.
This is like an early Ivan Barry Beat Factory production.
And then where were we at?
We mentioned the, oh, so these tracks were produced by Scott LaRock
and KRS-One. There they are
putting their nose in the Canadian hip-hop scene
again. Again, rest in peace, Ridley
Funeral Home, Scott LaRock, no longer
with us. They think that
that might have been Scott LaRock's final production
credit, by the way. So, okay, a couple
of fun facts about this song. It was recorded in
Kingston, Jamaica, this song. Wow.
You'd think it was recorded in Kingston, Jamaica, this song. Wow. You'd think it was recorded in like...
Kingston, Ontario.
Kingston, Ontario.
Home of Stu Stone and Monica in the Morning.
Soon to be.
This woman singing right now,
her name is Margaret Young.
Okay, she's on the vocals here.
She's from Kingston, Jamaica.
They were signed, Rumble was signed
to UK label G Street Records.
By the way, it was at Junior Reed's One Blood Studios in Kingston, Jamaica,
where they recorded this.
Hold on.
Oh, man.
So.
It's like another one.
I love that fucking thing.
Does not seem Canadian.
Well, it isn't.
It was recorded in Jamaica and produced by a man.
But he is.
It is.
Rumble, I don't know about the CanCon regulations,
but Rumble is
a Toronto boy
he's a Toronto guy
he's 100% a Toronto guy
this is a Canadian
hip hop song
it's funny
because I think
it's Cam Gordon
who turned me on
to this song
and I'm going to say
I never thought
too long about it
never thought too hard
but I never considered
it's the mind blow
but it won't blow
anyone's mind
who's heard Cam
and I discuss this
maybe even on
pandemic Fridays so I feel like it was like this song we're playing now is by
a massive attack it's called safe from harm uh-oh
it's worth the wait here boys and girls girls. It's going to be the same thing, right? Well, it's like the first song of their biggest album.
Produced by Banksy.
Rumble.
Right.
Allegedly.
Yeah, allegedly.
We'll give it a moment to brew here.
But, you know, there's no Rumble equivalent in this jam.
But does the hook say, like, yeah, it's probably right.
Midnight Rockers
City Sleepers
Gunman
And me, yeah
All the future
On the free shore
And I can't do nothing about that No, no, no Oh
Boy a capo ya ca Blam, blam Maybe that's why you haven't heard Maybe Rumble is Benzie
So shout out to Cameron Gordon
Who's like, hey Mike
You might want to listen to this massive attack song
Don't say from a harm
Because I had no idea.
But not that it really matters because
that song
by Rumble, I still love it the same because
Rumble makes that song anyway.
Yeah, I mean his
that's the memorable part
of it. Seriously, let's be
real for a minute. Where the fuck is Rumble?
Yeah. Like how many years
does Toronto Mike only exist for me
to find fucking Rumble? I'm trying to think people
like Fergie Oliver seems like
another one. Right. How do you get in touch with Fergie?
Where the fuck? We know where
Fergie's daughter works.
Yeah. So we know Fergie's daughter
is on the shopping channel. Yeah, like Rumble is completely
off the grid. We could find Fergie if we wanted
to find Fergie. Maybe Rumble's like back in Jamaica
or something. Blah, blah.
I don't know where he is,
but Toronto Mike
wants to fucking talk to him.
Yeah.
Zoom with me, brother.
I'm not directing it.
Searching for Rumble.
It's okay.
I've got...
Ready to rumble.
Do that one with
Retro Ontario.
There's a lot of good...
Rumble of all traits.
Why won't you direct
my fucking documentary?
I will.
You're better than me?
No. I thought you would want to do it on your own. Why won't you direct my fucking documentary? I will. You're better than me? No.
I thought you would want to do it on your own.
I'm not hanging with Drake.
You hang with Drake.
I'm hanging with Mishimi.
I'm hanging here with you.
I was hoping Mishimi was going to do the call-in,
though Farley Flex was...
Oh, Dai Wei went through a few different people.
Farley doesn't know he wasn't my first choice.
This is a throwdown.
We were this close to Kish
I know
Okay Stu floor is yours for the final jam
Ladies and gentlemen
This song
Is
The Northern Lights
What's the song that you guys fucking love
Tears are not enough
It's called Tears are not enough
Please respect it
This is like the Canadian Tears are not enough. It's called Tears are not enough. Please respect it. This is like the Canadian Tears are not enough.
That is Canadian.
No, this is the hip hop.
Canadian hip hop.
Minus the fundraising.
But super group kind of thing.
I feel like we've heard this.
Nope.
The VP of sales is on the Zoom and will let us know so far.
Well, Mike does those checkings, so it's his fault that we have.
I always check mine, that's for sure.
I don't give a fuck.
You just wink at me when you want me to post.
This song is really great.
It's like an all-star.
It's the all-star team.
This is the Monstars.
This is the Monstars, yeah.
Same era.
There's no Zoom in service.
There's no Zoom. service. No Zoom.
This goes out to all the people that stuck with the episode all the way through.
If you made it all the way through and you didn't fall asleep like I didn't.
We're going to play this final song and secure another victory for your man Stu Stone.
I won't be here next week.
Right.
So Mike and Cam, two more shows left.
Well, three.
And then the pandemic's over.
Two and then the finale on August 27th, so three more.
And then that's it.
I'm a free agent.
So this will be the last song that I play on a regular edition.
Oh, my God, that's true.
I'm kind of getting choked up about it, to be honest with you.
I want to thank you, Mike, because Cam and I have been able to get together all these weeks because of you.
And it's been really nice to get to see Cam all the time.
Will you be seeing him a lot after Pandemic Fridays?
Maybe him, because I do like him.
I do like him.
You don't like me.
You on the other hand.
You don't like me.
Not as much.
Real talk.
You've become quite arrogant since you kicked, what's her name to the curb?
Barb Paluskiewicz.
I'm hoping she comes back, actually.
I miss her.
The trail of bodies.
Let the bodies hit the...
That was a moment.
Are you ready?
Mike, this will be the last song we play on the Canadian hip-hop thing
and blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
Let's go. Ain't nobody can't bang with us Rascals checkmate, Cardinal and Thrust
Chakler coming down with the Northern touch
Why you people wanna bang with us?
Ain't nobody can't hang with us
Rascals checkmate, Cardinal and Thrust
Chakler coming down with the Northern touch
Check the lingo we spread throughout the atmosphere
So distinctive no other style comes near
So when you hear, you got to peer over the ledge to get a glance,
to know who is the man with the talents.
Flipping the words like my body on the apparatus.
Sky's the limit, so we're bound to break through the stratas.
With these rhymes and the classics.
Forget the fads or the fashion.
Step in some make over microphone.
Hey, yo, world domination, the base of the foundation.
No time wasted.
Firewalk, we trailblazing.
Burn to the next destination.
Flexing on this world exploration
Teamed with the best in the nation
Yes, and who that be?
Custom design, fine rhymes into salary
All the way from T-Dot to the fan city all-star
Food boys freak you like a fantasy
Word up
Here it comes
Big T-Dot coming up
I like chilling
Monday night raw watching
Me and Danny O at the Sky Dome When it's in town I just be regular So haters start dissing Coming up. Bump a stop.
You know, the Monday Night Raw at the Sky Dome would have been that famous one when Mr. McMahon's in the corner yelling at Austin, dumping beer on him.
Was that the first time he got beat up?
I think, no.
This is like when McMahon beat up? I think, no, this is like when
McMahon beat up
Austin.
Oh shit.
And he was like
talking shit in the corner.
That was so fun.
The Rascals
featuring
a host of friends.
Checkmate.
Cardinal
Official.
Thrust.
And
Chisnaka
Chocler.
Woo!
All-star team.
This is one of the most important individual songs in the history of Canadian hip-hop.
It single-handedly transformed the genre from a largely ignored underground movement
into a viable commercial endeavor.
This is getting the credit for the comeback because after Maestro, there was a big hole.
You know what I'm talking about, Mike?
You with me?
Big holes?
Well, I'm with you, brother.
But yeah, I'm with you.
I'm not sure I agree with that.
I know.
I'm trying to digest it and process it.
Well, I'm going to read you the rest of what I'm getting this from, all right?
I'm trying to digest it and process it.
Well, I'm going to read you the rest of what I'm getting this from, all right?
At the end of the 1980s and the beginning of the 1990s,
several Canadian hip-hop musicians, including Maestro Fresh West, Devin, and Dream Warriors,
had significant chart hits, but there was to be difficult years ahead.
Milestone Radio applied to CRTC for an urban music station in Toronto in 1990,
which could have been Canada's first radio station devoted to the format, Kiss. The Canadian music industry had a poor history with black Canadian musicians,
and the milestone decision was the final nail in the coffin.
After 1991, there wasn't another Canadian hip-hop song on the pop charts for over half a decade.
Enter the Rascals, who had recorded their first album in 93.
Da-da-da-da-da.
They decide, let's put this song together.
It wasn't even supposed to be on their album.
It actually wasn't on the first pressing of their album.
They had to repress the album to put this song on it.
That's how big of a hit it was for them.
pressed the album to put this song on it.
That's how big of a hit it was for them.
And quickly, I want to mention that the music video was
the first music video,
one of the first music videos, directed
by
Director X. Wow. There you go.
So there you go. Are you
listening, guys? Listen to this
beat because this song came out in 1998.
Here's another song
that came out at the exact same time
in 1998 and here's your mind blow.
Like Massive Attack.
Here's your mind blow.
This is the first single from another
artist.
Of course. Rest in peace.
Oh my god.
I never thought of that.
That's a mind blow for you. It's like a million.
Wow.
Get At Me Dog by the late great DMX was his major label debut single.
Wow.
Came out the same time as the Rascal song.
Same beat.
Yeah, no, it's exactly the same.
That's wild.
That's wild.
Same beat.
Yeah, no, it's exactly the same.
That's wild.
That's wild.
And, of course, DMX would end up blowing up with his next video,
the Rough Riders anthem or Stop Drop or one of those ones.
And you'll never guess who directed those videos.
Director X.
Director X. Harp.
When you say he was blowing up in the next video,
I thought you meant the Sum 41 video
So how much
DMX is on the MTV
So you have to give credit to Director X
For being just as big a part of this hip hop movement
In Canada
Because from the very beginning
Obviously he's too young to do Maestro's videos
But as soon as
No because that's FOTM Joel Goldberg
Right
Rascals
And then from then on
It's been from Rascals to Drake.
What a run.
As we close here, let's not bury the lead.
The great FOTM Dwight Drummond, who had cameos in both Let Your Backbone Slide and Drop the Needle.
Huge.
Anyway, that's the Rascals featuring all those great people.
And if you really want to get a serious mind blow, there is a Cardinal Offit Shell, Jamie Kennedy, Stu Stone song that I
did not play because I expected one of you
guys to dig it up, but you didn't and I'm
okay with it.
I'm okay with it.
It's called Rush the Club.
There is an episode coming up called Best of the Rest
where it's like a wild card episode.
I don't think that song is going to make it in, but it's called Rush the Club
with Cardinal Offit Shell that we did.
Anyway, I just want to say I'm going to miss you in. But it's called Rush the Club with Cardinal off his shell that we did. Anyway, I just want to say
I'm going to miss you guys next week and
that!
No, dude, I want to say sincerely
even though we'll never see each other again after
August 27, I just sincerely want you to have
great success with the launch of
Faking a Murderer in the United States
of America next week. Thank you, guys.
It's been a real pleasure and

And we'll miss you next week, even though Cam is very, he's got swollen member over
the fact that Ben Rayner is going to be here.
Thank you in advance for tweeting on August 6th, since I won't be your mic.
Maybe next week you could promote it.
Maybe you could promote on the show next week in my absence that people should sort of send
out some Twitter love.
Okay.
Remind me to do that, Cam.
We got to do that for this.
Well, Cam will remember because it has to do with Twitter.
It's in the content.
Yeah, it's content.
Oh, yeah.
I forgot about Twitter.
Okay.
Honestly, I enjoyed this episode because I love Canadian hip-hop.
Me too.
We heard some great jams tonight.
Yeah.
And that.
And that.
And that.
And that.
And that. And that. Brings us to the end of our 893rd show. Now, this is the 893rd show, so it should be counted in the best of.
You just called it show 839 or whatever the fuck you said.
893.
What did I say?
What did I say?
Did I say 839?
I think you got it.
