I'm Mike from
torontomike.com
and this is the fourth and
final holiday
edition of the
FOTM KOTJ series.
I'm in a good mood because I just returned home from getting my booster shot.
That's right.
I've got three COVID-19 vaccinations in me,
and I'm hopeful that all FOTMs who can hear my voice right now
are able to get their third shot
if they haven't had it already.
Let's hang in there.
It's a little bit of doom and gloom out there
with the Omicron,
but we're all in this together.
It's the holiday times
and we've got some fantastic jams
being kicked out by wonderful FOTMs.
Merry Christmas to all who celebrate.
Happy holidays to you and yours.
Enjoy the melodies.
Hey, Mike, it's Ian, a.k.a. Tim.
I understand this may be my last opportunity
to contribute a Christmas jam for all the FOTMs.
So one of the things I really enjoy is a punk cover,
because who doesn't love a punk cover?
And then a couple years ago,
stumbled upon this bad religion album that is called Christmas Songs.
And I've played it in front of my very religious mother-in-law.
And it went over pretty okay.
So enjoy.
Hark the herald angels sing.
Glory to the newborn king.
Peace on earth and mercy mild.
God and sinners reconciled.
Joyful all ye nations rise.
Join the triumph of the skies.
With the adjah khons proclaim, Christ is born
in Bethlehem. Hark the herald angels sing, glory to the newborn King.
Christ the highest, heaven adored, Christ the everlasting Lord
Late in time behold him come, offspring of a virgin's womb
Veiled in flesh the Godhead see, hail the incarnate Deity
Pleased as now with man to dwell, Jesus our Emmanuel Hark the herald angels sing
Glory to the newborn King
Hail the heaven, the peace of peace
Hail the Son of Righteousness
Light and life to all he brings
Risen with it in his wings
Mild he lays his glory by
Born that man no more may die
Born to raise the sons of earth
Born to give a second birth
Hark the herald angels sing
Glory to the newborn king Glory to the newborn king
Hi friends, it's Michael Lang.
One of my favorite movies, not just Christmas, but of all time, is Christmas Vacation.
At one point, Clark Griswold gets locked up in his attic and starts watching some old home movies.
The song that plays then is That Spirit of Christmas by Ray Charles.
I really like it. I hope you do too.
Christmas is the time of year For being with the ones we love
Sharing so much joy and cheer
What a wonderful feeling
Watching the ones we love
Having so much fun
I was sitting by the fireside
Taking a walk
through the snow
listening to
a children's choir
singing songs
about Jesus
the blessed way that he came
to our bus The blessed way that he came to all of us
Why can't it be me?
All through the year
Each day the same That's what I want to get
It's truly amazing
That spirit of Christmas guitar solo All the kinfolk gather round
The loving Christmas tree
Hearts are glowing full of joy
Says the gifts that we're giving, and the love that we're living.
Why can't it remain All through the year
All through the year
Each day the same
Each day the same
That's what I want to hear
I tell you
It's truly amazing
That spirit of Christmas
Let me hear you
Why can't it remain
Why can't it remain
All through the years All through the years
All through the years
It's been the same
It's been the same
And that's what I want to hear
Listen to me
It's truly amazing
That spirit of Christmas
It's truly amazing
That spirit of Christmas
Ain't it so?
It's truly amazing Yeah
That spirit of Christmas
Oh Christmas
Oh Christmas Christmas! For Christmas!
Hey now, this is Kennedy Kev here with my procrastinated submission for the FOTM Christmas Jams,
volume whatever number we're at now.
The person responsible for this song I'm picking is just so deep, valuable, and interesting that a brief intro can barely scratch, you know, really what the guy's all about. But I'll try to be quick. I'm talking
about a jazz singer, and he went by the nickname The Velvet Fog. That would be the great Mel
Torme. Many FOTMs are from a vintage that would know him from his appearances as himself
on the TV show Night Court. Great show.
Used to love that one.
Around the same time that show was on,
Torme released a double live LP called Mel Torme and Friends.
It was a big hit with my mom and I.
It captures him performing at one of his annual residencies
at Michael's Pub in New York City.
It's such a good performance,
and the show makes you feel like you're right there in the club with him.
My mom and I would play that album a lot.
It was great because 10 years later, I ended up working with my mom,
and in the small office we were at, we had a turntable,
so we would play that album a lot.
So, love Mel Torme.
Anyways, a little bit about him.
He started writing songs when he was only 13.
When he was still a teenager, he toured as a singer,
arranger, and a drummer in a band led by Chico Marx
from the Marx Brothers.
And he's also a very good pianist, actor in movies,
and as well, an author.
Wrote a great book on Buddy Rich.
His most famous composition, though,
is the one I've chosen as my favorite Christmas jam.
The one entitled The Christmas Song, commonly referred to as Chestnuts Roasting by an Open Fire,
or it was originally subtitled Merry Christmas to You.
It's a classic.
Mel wrote it in 1945, and he wrote it actually in the middle of the summer, in July, during a blistering heatwave,
and supposedly did it as an effort to stay cool by thinking cool.
Forty minutes later, he had the song written.
That was it.
I think the composer does the best version of this Christmas classic from his 1992 release on an excellent album called Christmas Songs.
FOTMs, this holiday season, I gift a little fog to one and all.
Ladies and gentlemen, for your listening pleasure,
The Velvet Fog, Mr. Mel Torme, and The Christmas Song.
Chestnuts roasting on an open fire
Jack Frost nipping at your nose
Yuletide carols
Being sung by a choir
And the fox dressed up like Eskimos Everybody knows
a turkey
and some mistletoe
help to make the season bright
Tiny tots
with their
eyes on
war glow
will find it
hard to sleep
tonight
They know that
Santa
is on his
way He's loaded But Santa is on his way.
He's loaded lots of toys and goodies on his sleigh.
And every mother's child is gonna spy
to see if reindeer really know how to fly.
So I'm offering this simple phrase to kids from one to ninety-two
Although it's been said many times
Many ways Merry Christmas to you
Love and joy come to you
And to you your Christmas too
And God bless you and send you
A happy new year
And God send you a happy new year.
Hi, my name is Nadia.
And the holiday song, well, one of the holiday songs I love the most is the South Soul Orchestra's Christmas Medley.
So I grew up in a house where there's a lot of music.
My dad has tons and tons of records.
And so there's certain records that stick out to me from listening to as a child. And I have a distinct memory of my brother and i dancing around the christmas tree listening to this song and it's always been a holiday
favorite of mine and i just love it Turn, turn around, the Lord has come. Let earth believe her King. And heaven and nature sing
And heaven and nature sing
And heaven and heaven and nature sing Thank you. Take the horse with bells of holly
Fa la la la la la la la la
Tis the season to be jolly
Fa la la la la la la la la
Don we now our gay apparel
Fa la la la la, la la la
To the ancient Utah carol
Fa la la la la, la la la la Thank you. Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, Come, all ye faithful
Join the angel of faith
O come ye, O come ye to Bethlehem
Come and behold Him
Born the King of angels.
Come let us adore Him, O come let us adore Him, O come let us adore Him, O come let us adore Him.
Oh, West Lago Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way
I've been bound to life in a one-horse open sleigh
Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way
I've been bound to life in a one-horse open sleigh
There's a ship in our sleigh In a one-horse open sleigh Thank you. Still free, make his spirits rise
What sound might one day hear
Of a song so true?
Jingle bells, jingle bells
Go down all the way
We'll have it all one to one
It'll haunt us all this way We'll have it come unto us, in the wonders of this land.
So we'll change the world's old tale.
We'll have it come unto us, in the wonders of this land.
In the one voice of His hand Hark the herald angels sing
Glory to the newborn King
Peace on earth and mercy mild
God and sinners welcome sound
Joyful all ye nations round
Joyful joy lonely nations rest Joyful, joyous for the stars
Let the jolies cast their blame As we mourn their flow'rds
On the ground our angels sing Glory to the Lord I'm gonna do No, never wanna tell
That I love you
And I'm not gonna tell if you are
Still I'm always coming
To tell you We love the red-nosed reindeer
High on the red-shining hill Sleigh bells ring, are you listening?
In the lane, snow is glistening Thank you. Субтитры подавал DimaTorzok We wish you a Merry Christmas

A big hello to all the FOTMs.
Cam Gordon here from Twitter Canada.
And a big shout-out to Toronto Mike Boone for this opportunity to give a song choice
for this new holiday playlist that he's assembling.
You're going to hear me starting in early 22
on a brand new podcast
on the TMDS digital service. It's called Toast and it co-stars not just myself, not just Mike,
but also Stu Stone, a famous actor that you might recognize from such famous TV shows as Dog City,
Canine Cop, also known as Rin Tin Tin in some markets,
as well as a personal favorite of mine, the Edison Twins.
That's to say nothing of Rupert the Bear.
Stu's one of the great actors of a generation and a barrel of laughs.
So tune in to Toast.
That's starting in early 2022.
Anyway, now we're going to talk about the holiday season.
I'm not really a big holiday person, so I'm not going to dwell on it.
What I do like is the band Mogwai. Mogwai are a Scottish instrumental act. They've been around for about 20, 25 years. They're fantastic. I have tickets to see them this April
at the Danforth Music Hall. Hopefully, I'll see you there. In the meantime, you can enjoy one of
their, they actually have a few songs that have holidays in the title, in some respect.
This one's called Christmas Song. This song came out in about 1998, and it's fucking great. Anyway,
enjoy, and I'll see all you FOTMs in early 2022. Thank you. Let's pray. Thank you. Thank you. I just wanted to say happy holidays and happy new year to you, your family, and all the FOTMs.
I'm really looking forward to Toast.
I grew up in Thornhill,
and I love it when Stu and Cam drop all these Thornhill references. In fact, I'm not 100%
certain, but I may have lived on the same street as Stu Stone at one point. We can figure that all
out later. Anyway, Mike, I'd love to hear the Twisted Sister cover of O Come All Ye Faithful.

Merry Christmas, everyone.
One of my favorite Christmas songs is Best Christmas Ever by Universal Honey.
A great band offshoot of Pursuit of Happiness,
led by husband and wife team of Leslie Stanwyck and Johnny Sinclair. Their whole album actually, Can't Stop Thinking About Christmas
from 2003, has a lot of great guest musicians like Jim Cuddy, Ron Sexsmith, Stephen Stanley,
I could go on. But track number three is my favorite. It gets a lot of airplay during the holidays.
So I would highly recommend it.
Best Christmas ever, Universal Honey.
Give it a listen.
In fact, give the whole album a listen.
Cheers.
Merry, merry, merry, merry Christmas, dear.
I hope you've been thinking of me.
I'm right where I want to be.
What do you say?
Hey, hey
Merry, merry, merry, merry Christmas Day
Throw another log on the fire
Satisfy your desire
To get high, high, high
Bells ring out Let's spend this time together
Underneath the mistletoe, it's heaven
This could be the best Christmas ever
Merry, merry, merry, merry Christmas time
I just wanna be here with you
There's nothing else that I'd rather do
Than let it snow
Bells ring out But it's no, oh, oh
Bells ring out, let's spend this time together
Underneath the mistletoe is heaven
This could be the best Christmas ever
Absolutely heaven
Bells ring out, let's burn this town together Underneath the mistletoe in heaven
Baby, you'll be strong
Bells ring out, let's burn this town together So it's heaven
Bells ring out, let's spend this time together
This could be the best Christmas ever Absolutely heaven Absolutely heaven
Hey, it's Ronald Mike.
Christian here, a.k.a. Jokeroru.
Apologies for the late music request.
This song is an oldie but a goodie.
Nat King Cole's The Christmas Song.
Uh, holds some special meaning to me in particular,
uh, bringing me back to my youth
and spending some great Christmas moments with my family,
my father in particular, who is no longer with us.
Um, every time this song comes on, I think of him.
The times that we spent together,
going around town, visiting family and friends, dropping off gifts, some alcoholic beverages, and just spending some good times and sharing laughs and good memories.
It's amazing the power that these songs have to bring us to different points in our lives, some good, some bad, and everything in between.
So, again, it's near and dear to my heart.
So if you're able to play it, I would really appreciate it.
And with that said, I'd also like to thank you
and all the other FOTJs out there.
Thank you for your efforts and for the shows and podcasts
that you've produced this year and all the years previous.
We greatly appreciate it.
And congratulations on the new show.
Looking forward to it.
Missed the banter between you, Stu, and Cam.
And I think we're spoiled for all the gifts that you've given us.
With that said, thank you very much.
And that's my song.
And I'm wishing everybody out there happy holidays, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
And can't wait to see what 2022 brings us.
Take care, Mike.
Thank you.

This was one of the first Christmas songs I learned how to play on the piano when I was a kid.
It was one of my mom's favorites, so she had requested it and I learned it.
And every year, this was our go-to song on the piano.
So it just brings back fond memories.
The song is called What Child Is This? Whom angels greet with anthems sweet
While shepherds watch are keeping
This, this is Christ the King,
Whom shepherds guard and angels sing.
Haste, haste to bring Him laud,
To bring him laud The babe, the son of Mary
Why lies he in such mean estate
Where ox and ass are feeding
Good Christian feel for sinners here.
The silent word is pleading.
Shall pierce him through The cross be born
For me, for you
Hail, hail
The Word made flesh
The Babe, the son of Mary
So bring him incense,, and myrrh
Come peasant king to own him
The kings of kings salvation brings Let loving hearts enthrone him.
Let the song on high the virgin sings her lullaby.
Joy, joy, for Christ is born.
Let the song of Mary Hi Mike, James Edgar here submitting a song for Kick Out the Jams Christmas 2021.
My pick is Bad Religion's cover of White Christmas.
A great cover by a great band of a really great song that i recall uh from the movie watching it
as a kid growing up and i think it was from the 40s but it might have been even early 50s
ben crosby that all that kind of thing i think it was ben crosby who knows whatever it was great

With every Christmas caroling
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your Christmases be white

With every Christmas card I write
May your days be merry and bright
And may all your Christmases be white
Be white
Oh white

Now Christmas for John Keyes
As far as I'm concerned, it's not Christmas until I hear Dean Martin sing Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow.
Oh, the weather outside is frightful, but the fire, it's so delightful.
And since we've no place to go, let it snow, let it snow, let it snow
And it doesn't show signs of stoppin'
And I brought me some corn for poppin'
The lights are turned way down low
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow
When we finally said goodnight
How I hate going out in the storm
But if you really hold me tight
All the way home I'll be warm
Yeah, the fire's slowly dying
And my dear, we were still good-bye
But as long as you love me so
Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow
When we finally kiss goodbye
How I hate going out in the storm
But if you really want it, I
Well, all the way home I'll be warm
Oh, the fire is slowly dying
And my dear, we're still goodbying
But as long as you love me so,

See you all
next week. Ah, where you been? Because everything is kind of rosy and gray
Yeah, the wind is cold, but the snow won't stay today
And your smile is fine, and it's just like mine
And it won't go away
Because everything is rose and green Well you've been under my skin for more than eight years
It's been eight years of laughter and eight years of tears
And I don't know what the future can hold or will do
For me and you
But I'm a much better man for having known you.
Oh, you know that's true because everything is coming up rosy and green.
Yeah, the wind is cold, but the smell of snow won't stay today.
And your smile is fine
And it's just like mine
And it won't go away
Cause everything is rosy and gray
Well, I've been told
That there's a sucker born every day
But I wonder who
Yeah, I wonder who
Maybe the one who doesn't realize
There's a thousand shades of grey
Cause I know that's true
Yes, I do
I know it's true, yeah
I know it's true
How about you?
Are they picking up trash
And then putting down roads
And they're brokering stocks
The class struggle explodes
And I'll play this guitar
Just the best that I can
Maybe I'm not
And maybe I am
But who gives a damn
Because everything is coming up
Rosy and gray
Yeah, the wind is cold
But the smell of snow
Warms me today
And your smile is fine
And it's just like mine
And it won't go away
Cause everything is rosy and gray And your smile is fine and it's just like mine and it won't go away.
Cause everything is rosy and green.
Well, I've kissed you in France and I've kissed you in Spain.
And I've kissed you in places I better not name.
And I've seen the sun go down on Chaclacour
But I like it much better
going down on you
Yeah, you know that's true
Because everything
is coming up
rosy and green
Yeah, the wind is cold
but the smell of snow warms us today.
And your smile is fine, and it's just like mine, and it won't go away.
Cause everything is rosy now, everything is rosy, yeah.
Everything is rosy and gray
