Starting point is 00:00:00 My mom goes, how are you? And I said, in the words of Rob Thomas when he collaborated with Santana on Smooth, I said, it's a hot one Combing the depths of the TMU for a quarterly review of fact checks figures and phrases that you didn't know you needed It's FOTM cast with your hosts, Toronto Mike, Cam Gordon, and Tyler Campbell. Friday night you and your boys went out to eat. Uh-uh. Then they hung out, but you came home around three.
Starting point is 00:01:02 If six of y'all went out, uh, then four of you were really cheap, yeah. Cause only two of you had dinner, I found your credit card seat. It's not right, but it's okay. I'm gonna make it anyway. Welcome to 2024 Q2's FOTM cast! Proudly brought to you by Great Lakes Brewery. A fiercely independent craft brewery who believes in supporting communities, good times and brewing amazing beer. Order online for free local home delivery in the GTA. Palma Pasta. Starting point is 00:02:04 From Palma Pasta in Mississauga and Oakville. The Toronto Maple Leafs baseball team, the best baseball in the city outside the dome. Join me August 4th at Christie Pitts. I'm recording live at 2pm. RecycleMyElectronics.ca. Comm committing to our planet's future means properly recycling our electronics of the past. And Ridley Funeral Home, pillars of the community since 1921. Joining me for this FOTM cast, as always, is FOTM Hall of Famer, Cam Gordon, and the VP of Sales, Tyler Campbell.
Starting point is 00:02:47 Hello. Welcome back. Toronto Mike reminder. What, what's the origin of this being the theme song? I know that I believe this is the can con remix or the Barry Harris remix. It's con can. I always call it can con.
Starting point is 00:02:59 Now I'm doing it. Yeah. I'm doing it. But why, why, why, why was that chosen for the theme song? It's a great song. Yeah, I just like the energy, you know, the feeling, the fact that it's an FOTM adjacent jam. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:03:12 I thought it was appropriate. Again, this is a Whitney Houston song that's remixed by FOTM, ConCan. With this? Barry. Barry Harris. Harris. Was this her last big hit?
Starting point is 00:03:24 No, we had the same chat. So I listened back. I didn't know how he started last time. So I'm back and we have the exact same exchange, which is that there is a cover of higher by Steve Wynwood, higher love, higher love, right? Right. That was released posthumously and it's like the last hit, but it was posthumous. So I'll ask this again in early October.
Starting point is 00:03:42 All right, let's set the table. So every quarter, us three will convene and we'll discuss what's happened in the Toronto Mike Universe in the previous quarter. I thought the first FOTM cast went smoothly and all praise is due to the great Tyler. She's singing her heart out over here. I feel like I shouldn't talk over here. But Tyler, you took a day off work to prepare for the first- I did.
Starting point is 00:04:06 Did you take a day off work to prepare for this one? I did not. I stayed up a little late last night just to work through some things. But the process is getting worked out. The technicalities are coming into focus. And every time it gets a little easier. Well, I will say also thank you for those late night.
Starting point is 00:04:24 I think it was around 10 p.m. We had a deep dive on Alf after we got some most unfortunate news. I think we're going to touch on and I feel like you were in the. Why don't we do it right now? I just get right into it. Oh, what a transition. My God. This is a Bruce Horn space. It is a little John
Starting point is 00:04:49 Do you think Rob Bruce could play this? No doubt. He's a prodigy. Yeah. So Kam, why don't you tell us the sad reason we're starting things off with the elf theme. So yeah, like I hate to get right into Ridley funeral home territory, but we learned last night the death of, uh, Oh my God, Ben Gregory, come on, who played a Brian on Alf, the, the, the little toe, toe haired, uh, scamp that ran around with Alfie. He was, I believe, 46 when he passed away. Like a lot of child stars, very tragic story. It's not like he was dealing with a lot of mental health issues and had struggled for many years and was found dead, I believe, in his car. And this was a bit of a I hate to say there was a bit of a Neil Hope vibe
Starting point is 00:05:40 to this because because Benji Gregory had been dead for for a few weeks already before we before the public found out before the public found out yeah similar i think Neil Hope was a bit of a different situation five years yeah yeah it was definitely more than a few weeks but nevertheless some parallels there but uh yeah shitty story 46 years old like way way too young yeah uh rest in peace Benji Gregory played Brian Tanner in Alf. I also learned and I recall now, I don't know Tyler, if you were a big punky Brewster head. Yeah. I would say I was a media.
Starting point is 00:06:13 I looked at you because you and I were here sitting in our fifties. That's right. Both of us now. This youngster to my left is still way back in his forties. So I doubt the great cam Gordon ever watched punky. Oh yeah. Of course they did. She, she had like the bed and stuff like really. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. Well you're thinking of silver spoon. He had the train. Uh, Ricky Schroeder would ride the train and uh, Jason Bateman was his buddy.
Starting point is 00:06:36 If I remember a big, big MAGA guy, uh, Ricky Schroeder. Yeah. That's disappointing. Yeah. Silver spoons was great though, but this, uh, Benji Gregory who played Brian Tanner on Alf, all caps Alf, alien life form if you don't know. He played an orphan named Dash on Punky Brewster, which was a recurring character. There you go. Well, I also noticed a Punky Brewster, Soleil Moonfry. She dated Shifty Shellshock who we also just lost because when that guy who was again the singer of crazy town, right recently passed away. One of the celebrity
Starting point is 00:07:10 mementos was Soleil moon fry said I will love you forever. I had a bit of crush on her. She was sweet. Now that that act, their big hit was built on a red hot chili pepper song because I was a big fan of mother's milk from red hot chili peppers and that so that was a butterfly. Yeah. Come on lady. Come cup that one. The whole the whole base or whatever the music behind these words was just a red hot chili pepper song. You'll find a mother's milk. Yeah. By the way, good, good line from Jeremy Hopkin here in the chat. Uh, shout out to Ridley funeral home. Tell the cats that alpha ate he did eat a lot of cats.
Starting point is 00:07:46 Yeah, I was almost said something else there. But I remember there's one scene in Alf where he was acting almost like a Somali and he picked up a little piece of cat for any he tasted. He's like, mmm, tabby. 84, maybe an 83. Like, I'll see that. That's that's good stuff. I mean, that's good. I'm a big fan. Tyler, did you watch out? I sure did.
Starting point is 00:08:04 Monday nights, right? I feel Monday at eight. I think that yeah, I can't remember the exact date. I think you were saying in the chat though that you did a Willie Tanner impression. Is that no well for once it's really I can't do it. I'm sorry. It's really kind of whiny and wimpy. I'm trying not succeeding with my Willie Tanner. I did a I have only have one phrase that I could say is Willie Tanner and that that is Mrs Ock Monick right now. Mrs Ock Monick of course went on to play the mother of Jerry Seinfeld on sign. I hate to say she kind of looked like health.
Starting point is 00:08:49 Okay, but you ready for a mind blow? And I want to shut up my buddy Mark Kerry, who kind of gave me this mind blow back in the, in the year 2000, but Mrs. Ocmonic, who went on to play Jerry Seinfeld's mother when she was young, she dated James Dean. That's you. This is she dated James Dean. That's wild. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:09 Yeah. And I can't remember her name now. Something shared. Let's share it. There you go. Thank you. Who's also dead. She's dead.
Starting point is 00:09:15 Willie Tanner's dead. All the cats are dead. Brian Tanner's dead. We've been mentioning a lot of dead people and we have not yet said I see dead. Shout out to Ridley funeral. Oh, I learned about that in the lexicon episode. And again, the lexicon episode is why FOTM cast was invented and this is our second one.
Starting point is 00:09:32 And I do wanna thank you. I wanna thank you for being here, Cam, cause you had to travel the furthest distance to be here. No problem. And we're gonna get an update from you cause I have a big question for you. But Tyler, the work you put into this episode, you delivered to me stingers and audio to play and you now fade out the stingers.
Starting point is 00:09:50 Yeah. We worked that out, that one out from last time. Thank you. My pleasure. I just want to make you happy, Mike. Even though I crapped on you cause you said I was going to get these, this audio last night. And then I said, you said I would receive this last night. That was a lie. And then we had this fun exchange where we just communicated in YouTube links to songs. Like a, was it Michael Bolton? I said, I loved you, but I lied.
Starting point is 00:10:11 Oh, and I sent, why'd you lie by calling names? Who's, who's playing, playing a mostly with you or what? What's it called? Bedwiser stage. Right. Yeah. Right. Yeah. And I, would I lie to you? Right. But not the Arrhythmics. Charles and Eddie Charles and Eddie. Okay. That's a good, that is I like that. That's a good track.
Starting point is 00:10:29 That's a good song. Then I replied with I'm sorry by Brenda Lee. I felt bad. Okay. So let's get to it here. Let's get a catch up on everybody or start with you, Tyler. Yes, I have the big question for cam, but how the hell are you doing? I'm well. Thank you. You know, summer in the city feels great summer in the city, uh, feels great. Love and spoonful. Yeah. Uh, yeah. Canadian connection. Like there's a, there's a, uh, yeah. Uh, what's his name? Sal Yanoski. Yeah. Yeah. He had a restaurant in Kingston.
Starting point is 00:10:58 Shea Piggy. Yeah, that's right. Breakfast spot. Thank you. That's why you guys are here. So you're doing all right. Doing fine. Uh, feeling good. feeling good We'll be driving to Cambridge after this to deliver some camping supplies to my daughter amazing very exciting stuff. That's amazing Now I saw you recently. Yes, because I saw you on June 27th. You were at TML X 15 I certainly was so we'll recap TML X 15 soon Yeah, but I was very excited to see cam Gordon there and his beautiful wife, MF. As was I. Then they never arrived. I thought, oh, did they have something better to do? But they had a good excuse. Cam, how are you doing?
Starting point is 00:11:33 Yeah, we had something better to do. We had to go to the collision center in Scarborough. Yeah, because, yeah, it was kind of scary. We just pulled it. We were going to head down to your place, get on. We just hopped on the Don Valley Parkway and no sooner did we, we hop on right at right off of O'Connor in the East end. Uh, we, we got in a car accident. Was it your fault? Um, it remains to be seen. That's what the insurance companies right now. Cause Peter Gross taught me, don't say anything on that.
Starting point is 00:12:01 Investigation. Yeah. Yeah. It's before the court, but everybody is safe. Like, yeah, no whiplash. No, no, no. I mean, it was, we are, it was kind of one of those situations where like everyone's merging in different directions. So this is literally getting right on that DVP. Billy Idol who had whiplash smile. Was that his big, his CD, something like that? Yeah. Yeah. So you didn't have a whiplash smile and that is okay. Cause that's the most. Yeah. Yeah. It was just disappointing because we were both, we, we took last week off to,
Starting point is 00:12:29 we were on vacation, celebrating our first anniversary as man and wife. So congratulations. And that's why we didn't see you at Christie pets. Yeah. So it was a bit of a whirlwind the last, the last week, but the main, the main thing is we are, we're totally good. And the other guys totally good too. And yeah, everyone's good. Yeah. Disappointed to miss, miss the big event though. I was really looking forward to it. I wanted to see the big reveal. I almost canceled it when I heard you weren't coming. Oh, stop it. Stop it. Well, I did see the photos. It looked like a great night and, uh, yeah, sorry.
Starting point is 00:12:57 We couldn't be there in person. Is it off the record? Well, I have to fix it and post it by just congratulate you on your new job. Cause that allowed. Oh yeah. No No, that's that's public record. You saw that you saw the LinkedIn update. Come on. But I didn't know how public. Sure. Yeah, no.
Starting point is 00:13:11 OK, so congratulations on your new job. Thank you. Yeah, I'm sure anybody listening to this probably knows me personally. No, I did leave the phone company in May after a solid year and a half. And I did your time. Did my time at the phone company in May after a solid year and a half. And did your time. Did my time at the phone company
Starting point is 00:13:27 and I'm working for a Seneca Polytechnic, which is the homeschool one time of many FOTMs, Colin DeMello and Richard Southern. I got several DMs from several FOTMs saying, hey, I went there. So very exciting. Yeah. So a fresh, fresh start. It's been great so far and here we are. Hey, if you're happy, I'm happy. Yeah. That a fresh, fresh start. It's been great so far. And here we are.
Starting point is 00:13:46 Hey, if you're happy, I'm happy. Yeah. That's how it works around here. You're only as happy as the saddest FOTM. Who is the saddest FOTM? Just kill me now. I'm trying to think. We don't need to bring 1236 into this.
Starting point is 00:14:00 Is he? You know, I've seen him a lot lately because he was at. I'm going to crack open a beer. You know what? Let's all do it on the mic here. OK, so which one hey, you know, I know MF likes Hayes mama She does like so I'm gonna bring send you home with some Hayes mama for MF. And you got that you got a premium lager I have a sunny side on the mic Okay, cheers to you guys cheers
Starting point is 00:14:21 Excellent to see LCBO is on strike, but you can still get delicious fresh craft beer at Great Lakes Brewery. I have to check that out on the interactive map. So much flavor. It's good. Yeah. Hey, mama, have a couple of those cam will be slurring his words at the end of his FOTN. Which one was it that connect pale ale made an appearance in that video in his barbecue video? Yeah. Hey, shadow to Gordy Lavec as the character in the on the can of there you go. Can I pay? I feel like Doug Ford doesn't drink. Am I wrong? No, he doesn't drink. I don't think he drinks. His brother was a drinker as I recall.
Starting point is 00:14:56 I heard that. Okay, no one political. The FOTM has okay. I we will recap TML X fifteen as part of this FOTM cast But I thought maybe this is kind of rare because I made a speech So a speech was done to me. We'll talk about that Can a speech be done to you and then I made a speech you're affected an unrecorded speech But then I found out later that Monica actually was filming video. So I actually pulled audio So I was thinking this speech was like if you were there there, you got it. And if you weren't there, you know, tough luck. You missed out on this tremendous speech.
Starting point is 00:15:28 Okay. But I did pull a little audio of my speech that I didn't know was being recorded. You ready? Creep shot. Not the best audio, but hey. All right. The rest of this speech is emotional. So don't make fun of me if I try. No one's recording. Not the best audio, but hey. Alright, you can only play the cards you're dealt. I really believe this.
Starting point is 00:15:53 And this woman right here has been dealt some pretty tough cards. But I wouldn't bet against her. She's a pistol, a loyal supporter who lets the sponsors know that she listens to Toronto Mike. That's everything. And I think Leave A Bump is amazing. I actually think you're amazing. And it's been an absolute pleasure to have you here.
Starting point is 00:16:21 I wasn't sure you'd be able to make it. I don't know how specific to get, but this woman was harvesting stem cells? Do I have that right? Millions of stem cells yesterday? And you're here. Okay, so now I thought long and hard about this, okay? It's my absolute pleasure to announce that Lieve Funka is going into the FOTM Hall of Fame! Oh, hey, welcome! Sam Torgans! First moment! First moment, right? You're breaking the ceiling!
Starting point is 00:17:12 Now there's a whole bunch of dudes we can put in there! Breaking the ceiling, okay! The Glass Ceiling The Glass Ceiling The Glass Ceiling The Glass Ceiling has been shattered after five dudes named Ed, Mark, Stu, Cam, and Peter — that's me — the FOTM Hall of Fame is proud to welcome its first woman inductee. Nive Fumka has been a fiercely loyal supporter, patronizing sponsors, attending 14 of the 15 TMLX events and going above and beyond at every opportunity.
Starting point is 00:17:46 Now, true, she was banned as a judge, but her current fight has inspired every FOTM, and the Hall of Fame is a far better place with her in it. Welcome, Lieve Fumka, to the FOTM Hall of Fame. from car to the effort. TM Hall of Fame. We go for reaction now to a member of the FOTM Hall of Fame. Cam Gordon, what do you think of this amazing announcement that's just been? I think that's well deserved. That's a slam dunk.
Starting point is 00:18:17 I applaud the representation finally in the end. Yeah, like a no brainer. Of course, she belongs in there. I remember when I first got familiar with, leave gave FAMCO when she would show up during their early days of pandemic Fridays and Stu and I would be like texting each other, like who the hell is this person? And then we quickly learned it's like, actually she's awesome being there. And I, I thought she was a,
Starting point is 00:18:40 it was a secret weapon on that show. She always, always good for like a pithy comment, almost like a sort of an Ed McMahon off to the side. It was a secret weapon on that show. She always, always good for like a pithy comment, almost like a servant Ed McMahon off to the side. It was fine. Always fun having her there. And then I fired her. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Her sort of judging abilities were kind of questionable, but I remember very early on this was, I think shortly after I came on the podcast, I she recognized me and my daughter Katie.
Starting point is 00:19:03 We were shopping at the Loblaws at Maple Leaf Gardens. Wow. Yeah. But she's awesome. We've gone to know one over the years, her partner, and he's, he's a great guy too. So yeah, well deserve it again. I wish I could have been there, but a shout out to leave gay FOMCA again. I know she's been dealing with some stuff, but to your point, she's, uh, she's one of the real ones and deserves to be in there. And, uh, yeah, one of the greats. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:19:23 Tyler Campbell, what do you think? Leave a FOMCA is in the FOTM hall of fame. Yeah it's I mean it's a natural it's a great choice and so happy you you decided to do that and make the announcement at TMLX which was such a great night and yeah she's a fantastic person, Juan's a fantastic person, so happy that they're part of the TMU and then I've gotten to know them over the years and yeah, this is great news. So congratulations, Lieve Fumpka. If you're listening at home, I hope you don't skip this episode in case somebody tell her to listen. She listens to all these episodes. So I hope you're crying right now. I hope there's tears coming down your eyes. You're wiping them away. That's what I hope is happening. Maybe she's
Starting point is 00:20:02 dancing with tears in her eyes. Like image. that was a great. We'll talk about that. That's actually Q3. Yeah, we can't talk. That's all right. That's right. Yeah, I know. I was thinking there's been a lot of great episodes. I can't wait to talk about it. I'm like, oh, that's Q3. We got to talk about that in October. OK, and thank you, of course, to fellow FOTM Hall of Famer
Starting point is 00:20:19 Peter Gross, the voice of the Toronto Mike podcast, who did a great job. Sweating over here. So many audio bits. I'd go out on the ocean and if I had a pony I'd ride him on my boat and we could all together go out on the ocean. All right I get that reference. Okay we're going to do a brief TMLX 15 recap. This is for people like Cam Gordon who couldn't be there because of geography or car accident
Starting point is 00:21:04 or act of God sure all three shadow to arch nemesis of Tyler Campbell, Michael Lang, because the Langer is fifteen for fifteen. So I want to acknowledge that right off the top here. Unfortunately, we do have to acknowledge that's unbelievable. No one else. I I'm actually fifteen for fifty, although it was touching go for number fourteen cam and I showed up sick, sick to number 14. Yeah, barely made it, but I did make it there. So I'm 15 for 15, but Michael Lang has been to all 15 events and I just think that's a totally
Starting point is 00:21:35 rad casting a poll over the whole operation stink. So thank you, Michael Lang. And I mean, I recorded the whole speech. I played a bit of the leave a FOMCO one, but I was really happy to see so many friendly, warm faces. Most of whom I didn't know existed until I guess, when you do a podcast, people find you and then you have events and then you meet people at events and then they come back.
Starting point is 00:21:59 And I would say so many of these listeners are friends. Like Tyler, you're a good example, okay? I think of you, oh, there's my friend Tyler. Sure. I didn't know there was a Tyler Campbell until I started to do this podcast and you kind of dug it and you reached out, I guess at some point, and now you're a friend. Now a friend cam Gordon's a good example. I completely ignored cam Gordon years. No joke. It's just in the pile of annoying PR guys filling up your, uh, right.
Starting point is 00:22:24 Unless I'm, I didn't work for a car company, even though they were the only ones you engage. You do your little shameless. I have another one actually. I'm going to, uh, I'm camping later this month. Of course you are. I've got things lined up there, but, but cam's a good example. So it was amazing to see the community. And then I was completely, I'll just tell you the truth. No joke. I did not see it coming when When I was gifted a kayak, and it's more than just a kayak,
Starting point is 00:22:47 because I had to go buy this, all this stuff, and I didn't have to go out of pocket for all these accessories, because there was more than a kayak. There was money tied to it as well. But I would love to hear from you right now, Tyler, because I think you were a big straws during this drink. How did the kayak gift come to be?
Starting point is 00:23:03 Break it down for me. I was so appreciative and just so honored. Sure. Yeah, I I was going to talk about this a little bit later in a different segment, but this is your show. Well, no, no, no, but it may make sense. It makes sense to talk about it now, so it says tmlx recap. No, I don't. I know that there's just it's relevant in another section, which we'll talk about later. It's fine. Yeah, so I guess
Starting point is 00:23:27 leave a FAMCA, Steph Wilkinson and was grumpy reached out to me to say Rod squad, a broad squad, say you know, we should do something for Mike's birthday on at TML X and you know, maybe we get him a gift. Maybe we can get everyone to contribute maybe and it was in fact leave a FAMCA who remembered that you were talking about a kayak probably a year. Maybe it was even during COVID. That's why she's in the hall of fame. That's right. And so she said, you know, maybe can you check with
Starting point is 00:23:55 Monica and see if that's an appropriate gift? And so I did. And she was like, yeah, that that would be great. I know he'd loved one So then we started this whatsapp group, which was basically everybody from the secret Whatsapp group, but you And we just started talking about it and it went on for a good three weeks There's a lot of conversation a lot of talk about you know, how are we gonna present this money to Mike? Is it gonna to be like there's sponsorships, many layers and oh yeah, many additional ideas. Yeah, there are other ideas like maybe we get you a fridge or a freezer for down here. But then we thought, no, like the floor plan, the foot foot space is not
Starting point is 00:24:35 available for something like that. And that noise will bother me. Exactly. So so we didn't do that. There was talk about taxation, you know, concerns. I heard this. I think why we see Gord was saying if it, you know, concerns. I heard this. I think why we see Gord was saying if it's a sponsorship, then a couple of things happen. I mean, I got to charge you a just a guard. Turner was in the chat and then I got to declare it as income because now it's income. But if it's a gift, I don't have to declare. So it was just in case anyone from Syria is
Starting point is 00:25:00 listening. It was a gift. Well, Johnny O is a C. R. A. guy who listens. We're not making this up. There's no, there's no Peter Gross, no wink, wink here. This was a definitely not in a pickle. I'll get to that. But I have a, that's going to come up in the recap of the last quarter, the Peter Gross situation, but please continue. So yeah, there were, I think we had 48 or 49 people who contributed money of varying size but you know everyone who contributed a dollar was was very much appreciated. And I heard Bob Bullock gave up a hundred bucks. Yeah I think he did. He said so I have to check my records on that one but check your records on that. Wow okay. Because I did keep very meticulous records of everyone who contributed. Yeah and we raised or people
Starting point is 00:25:42 contributed almost four thousand dollars Okay, I don't yeah, it's amazing and it's what's a wonderful feeling is I went to the the complete paddler Which is a store not far from here too And I'm like, oh I need a paddle but I need a special paddle that breaks down to fit into this special backpack I needed to buy and then I needed a PFD and I was collecting I had a special thing for my phone So when I end up in the in the drink when I'm in the lake my phone won't go And I'm collecting these things and I'm not really too worried about the price tag because I have this gift money Set aside for these purchases. It's a wonderful feeling petty cash petty So thank you Tyler. I know the broad squad are a big part of this and you're a big part of this and I'm just completely honored. So I just want to say
Starting point is 00:26:26 complete just thank you. The only way that day could have been better is if I saw Cam Gordon and MF walking over the we're there in spirit. You were there in spirit and and I think just a just a sort of tie a bow on this. You know, I said it at at TML X and I'll say it again like you do so much for the community, for all of us, whether it's just through the content, the free entertainment that you provide us, the access to your guests, and you ask all of our questions verbatim
Starting point is 00:26:57 pretty much every time. That's true. That's true. And you are so helpful and resourceful and just such a great part of all of our lives. And so it was just our small way of saying thank you. Well thank you and thank you for these stingers. I'm going to try to fire off another one right now.
Starting point is 00:27:24 This is kind of the big segment. This is when we wrap up what happened in the second quarter on Toronto Mike and in the TMU. Do we start with you, Tyler? Yeah, I've got sort of some stats that I can just kind of rattle off here to sort of contextualize the quarter. This was the 48th quarter of Toronto Mike by the way. There were forty nine episodes down from a very prolific sixty one and that's too much. Yeah, I need to do fewer. Yeah, you had seventy four guests. So you counted forty nine because I did a quick count myself. I came up a forty eight, but I don't trust my my math. Well, we'll we'll Robert Lawson will get
Starting point is 00:28:03 involved in. We'll get the number right. Seventy four guests in those forty nine episodes, you had a lot of what I'll call gang episodes with multiple guests. Yeah, you had thirty eight first time guests, which is up from thirty six first timers in Q one. It helps with those gang episodes. It does. And you had some big first time guests in Q2. I'll just name some of them.
Starting point is 00:28:31 Ben Johnson. Whoa, Olympic gold medalists, nine seven nine ish, yes. Yeah. The great my personal favorite leaf of all time, Wendell Clark. He was twice by the way. Yeah, that's amazing. Crazy Dave Van Horn, the the great Expos and Marlin twice play by play. He was also on like that's no joke. That that amazing. Crazy Dave Van Horn, the the great expose and Marlin twice play by play. He was also on like that's no joke. That that guys yeah, that happened. Yeah Joe fucking Carter. Oh my God, like come on. Jose Bautista, Joey Bats, the bad flood MVP, Josh Donaldson. Wow, wow, unreal. These are big names. Yeah, like these are names I dared to dream about a decade ago. Are these the most famous people that have ever been on? I feel like this is
Starting point is 00:29:10 an ongoing debate. Who's the most famous person? I think more famous than Chuck D. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, I think these are up there for sure. Like Jose Batista, maybe globally. Yeah. I don't know. Yeah. This is a great debate, but I don't know. It's hard to gauge John Cryer. Oh no, that's a John Biner, John Biner John Gallagher. I mean, go on, go on. So yeah, huge Tom Cochran who you've been sliding into his DMS for years. Yeah, And it sounds like, you know, I think a future episode is in the cards, a deep dive. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:49 I think he's into it. Yeah. And former Premier of Ontario, Bob Ray. So your second premier. My second premier. Yeah. So all very exciting. It was a really exciting quarter as far as that goes.
Starting point is 00:30:01 The way you say it, it all sounds so impressive. Well, it is impressive. Look at that. Look at all those names. It's unreal. Rob Proust became the eighth member of the 20 Time Club. Wow, congratulations Rob. Congratulations to Rob. And you had a number of repeat guests in the quarter. So Rob and Bob obviously did their three, their traditional toast episodes each month. But then we had two appearances from Jeremy Hopkin, who nailed it each time. And one of them, well, he did appear at a TML X event, but I don't
Starting point is 00:30:30 actually typically count those. Yeah. But he made his Toronto Mike debut, but that episode had recorded before last FOTM cast. And I think we were eager to talk about it, but much like with mid year, it's like, no, that's the next quarters as we have to talk about it but yeah so he's coming back again in the third quarter so he's gonna be a quarterly guest and our next theme will be like Toronto locations that were used for filming movies and TV shows that we've all seen that'll be a fun always a popular yeah Jeremy Hopkins who's also a wonderful presence on the live stream yes yeah he's there right now basically like the the official historian now much like Robert loss the, the official fact checker.
Starting point is 00:31:08 That is correct. Yeah, Jeremy. Jeremy is such a great addition to the TMU. He's got that great historical perspective, a depth of research, and he's just a perfect guy. He gets it. He does get it. He absolutely gets it and other couple of other multiple appearances. Rob Salem, his first two appearances. He was a lot of fun. He's a welcome addition to the FOTM community. Absolutely. I was actually at a friend's cottage on Canada Day weekend,
Starting point is 00:31:33 and he mentioned that his mother was a good friend of Rob Salem's. Whoa! That's funny, because my guest this morning, Gary Chowen, hairstylist to the stars, told me he reached out, most recently, he reached out via email asking to come on. He said he has great stories because he saw his client, Rob Salem, was on Toronto Mike and he listened to Rob Salem on Toronto Mike.
Starting point is 00:31:56 So there you go. Okay. So anyway, huge quarter, lots of great guests, very exciting. So that kind of covers off the statistical portion of great guests. Very exciting. So that that kind of covers off the the statistical portion of the episode. So I thought maybe we could talk about some of our favorite apps from the from the quarter. Sure. Like, yeah, I want you to drain your swamp. And then I want to hear your cam. And then I have a few little notes here before we move on.
Starting point is 00:32:19 For sure. Do you want to play that first clip? No, not yet. Not yet. So I had just a few top apps that I wanted to mention. Jeremy's I've already talked about. He's just such a great addition to the TMU and I really really enjoy his historical deep dives. I thought Jerry Levitan was really cool excellent. Yeah, he's the guy who interview, which one was that he interviewed John Lennon, who right right right, he's stuck into his hotel room. one was that he interviewed John Lenin, the kid who he was hotel room. You know what one of those guys I feel people might skip
Starting point is 00:32:53 like who's Jerry Levitan don't skip that episode. No, it's a great one and just a fascinating guy who's nominated for an Oscar had great stories about going to the one an Emmy yeah much like a local personality. We know from that's right from the news. Yeah, PJ so yeah, Brian Dunn. So yeah, Jerry's episode was great. Don't forget J. Agnew. And I really love the Father's Day special with Dave Van Horn and the Taylor siblings.
Starting point is 00:33:16 I'm glad because I thought it was very touchy. It was really sweet. And it came together beautifully. Yeah. And shout out to Leslie Taylor who is listening right now and she baked your cake And she baked my cake a lot of thank you to Leslie So that Father's Day episode and when Leslie's brother starts to he starts to cry on that episode gets me right here It was like what a moment and just because he's got he's got questions about his dad who you know
Starting point is 00:33:41 Died only a couple years older than us, Tyler. And he has a chance to talk to somebody who knew his dad very well. He gets to ask all these questions and it was such an emotional moment that I loved that father's day episode. Yeah, it was great and and really sort of highlighted the fact that Russ Taylor should be in the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame. I think oh I you heard me absolutely 100% should be absolutely. I feel like that could be a less most emotional episodes of because that could be a list. Most emotional episodes of because that would be in the mix.
Starting point is 00:34:11 Also, we were joking about earlier today, but honestly, it's hard not to like smirk when talking about. But I'll see Fergie Oliver finally talking about the YouTube super cut. Yeah, that that even though you sort like it's again, it's hard not to like smirk and sort of laugh at it. But that's probably been sitting with that guy for years. And like imagine somebody like make up these like lies about you, especially for a topic like that is just so gross. And that YouTube video is why he didn't do any media.
Starting point is 00:34:40 Didn't make any public appearances. He laid completely low because of that. And if it wasn't for this kind of perfect storm of his daughter comes on Toronto mic feels it'll be a safe space knows I'm a fan and it all kind of came together yeah the friggin again like he wasn't just those that show he was the voice of the Blue Jays yeah for many years I mean sort of the car George Bell falling to his stage Oh Carter falling to his knees was George Bell falling to his knees that whole thing I falling to his knees. That whole thing. I don't know. Anyway, I'm
Starting point is 00:35:08 with you segue. They're both emotional. And then a couple of just sort of hat tip honorable mentions. I thought Kelly Lee Evans was a lot of fun. I got a lovely thing. I never get a piece of snail mail after. In fact, the only time I think I've received a piece of snail mail from Ottawa, where she lives, hand signed, beautiful card. Thanking me so much. That's lovely. So she is lovely. And that episode, yes, surprised me as well because it was a kind of a last second ad because she was in town for a very short period of time and I'm like, let's make this happen. And she was wonderful.
Starting point is 00:35:40 Yeah. Yeah. She was great. And I've been actually listening a lot to her cover of lose yourself. Yeah, it's actually really good. Yeah, it, she was great And I've been actually listening a lot to her cover of lose yourself. Yeah, it's actually really good Yeah, it is good Lori Cullen I thought was great. Also, just yeah, the two of you sort of had a really fun rapport She was kind of busting your chops a bunch and her husband. Oh Yeah, this is the her husband was from Rob Bruce. This is from Rob Bruce the Sam the record That's really painting from Kurt swing hammer. Yeah, that's right. Of course. And Lori Cullen is Kurt's, uh, what did I call him? Do you guys kiss in the mouth? Is that what I
Starting point is 00:36:10 asked her lover? Real talk. That's a, I need to know what's going on. Blue. Hotel. I agree. If you, Lori Cohen was fantastic. Yeah. Uh, and then the last, uh, episode that I wanted to sort of tip my hat to was episode 1500, uh, your kick kick out the jams episode, uh, kind of slipped under the radar. I felt like you just kind of put it out and then there wasn't a lot of chatter about it, but no promo yeah, but I thought it was beautiful. You know, like it really is your story and and your sort of progression through your life and through your discovery of music and and I thought it was I thought it was great. Well, thank you very much.
Starting point is 00:36:43 Now can I give a shout out to a few opposite? Yeah, so I'm going to pass the baton to cam, but first I want to correct you on something you said in our first FOTM cast. There's a bit of a fact check. Please. I did. You need to Robert Lawson like sound. We do need it. Robert you know what? That'd be easy. Get you made a statement on that show that Gloria Martin was and the
Starting point is 00:37:03 remember saying that who me or yeah. Oh yeah, yeah. Yeah, so cams who me what what it's like the stupid family circus. They're both were rust marvin star daughters. Oh, not me, not me. Okay, so Gloria Martin is not andrea martin sister. I just want to put that on the public record. They're not related at all. No, there's no Martin's a popular last name, you know, so no relation and corrected me. I passed the baton to you.
Starting point is 00:37:38 Okay, I'll be. I'll be honest. I feel like I didn't listen to as many episodes this quarter as I have in passing and honestly it to be perfectly transparent. Just leaving the phone company was a lot, a lot of work. So my mind was elsewhere for good chunks of the quarter, but regardless, there were some episodes I'd listened to. Um, and in no particular order, Scott Turner, I listened to anytime he comes on. I just loved that guy. He's just awesome. Again, one of the real ones, um, a sneaky, good episode remembering Sir Andrew day Davis Davis him to yeah much like yourself, Mike, a world I knew nothing
Starting point is 00:38:13 about was like this is fascinating. Here's just, you know, a big deal in right in our city. Never heard of why that happened. I want to shout out a great FOTM who I did see a team Alex 50 ward 50 and award because Andrew warden, he lives in that world. Like he gets that world and it's so foreign to me. I'm glad I'm not the only one. I like you like snuck in that low call on his lunch break or something. Right. Yeah. He sees, I mean, he's in a, yeah, he's in a meeting. So Andrew ward kind of tips me off and he's like, Mike, uh, sir, Andrew Davis is kind of a big deal. Uh, and you probably should do something. And I'm like, I'm like, who the fuck is sir? Andrew Davis is kind of a big deal and you probably should do something.
Starting point is 00:38:45 And I'm like, who the fuck is Sir Andrew Davis? Like I've never heard this name before. See the guy who drew Garfield comics? And he's like, no, he gives me a little four one. I go, okay, fine. I'm gonna talk to you and zoom and record it and that'll be it. And I did that, but then I'm like, no, I need to go deeper.
Starting point is 00:39:00 I need to talk to members of the symphony and somebody arranged this and I don't have her name at hand. A lovely person on Twitter who follows me and listens to Toronto Mike basically connected me to a couple of people I should talk to from the symphony who were playing under the conducting, I'm using the right words, of Sir Andrew Davis and that episode was fantastic and that guy kept calling me Ted. Can I call an audible here? Can you play clip for okay. Clip four. You got it. You are the boss. Here we go. Hey Ted. It's actually not Ted. It's Mike.
Starting point is 00:39:34 I mean, Mike, Mike, I saw that a high Ted. I'm like, Oh, I'll tell them later. Oh, I said, hi Ted. Okay. I don't know why I said Ted. Ted's a good name. I like the name Ted I said Ted. Ted's a good name. I like the name Ted. My pleasure, Ted. Yeah, just so you know, it's not Ted. My pleasure, Mike. I'm saying Ted Ted's dead, baby.
Starting point is 00:39:56 Ted's dead, baby. OK, that I'm glad I didn't. I haven't listened to any of these. Yeah. And so that was James Wallenberg, who's a violinist in the Toronto Symphony. Did he play with Ello? That was his story, right? When he was very young. Because today there's a great story about that same E.L.O.
Starting point is 00:40:17 tour from today's guest, Gary Chow and I know that's a Q3 thing. So we're not allowed to talk about it right now, but it's connects really lovely with that James Wallenberg conversation. Yeah, he was also he had a lot of connection to comedy as well. There's a lot of chatter about it. I know. Anyway, he promised to send me a clip of his comedy. Yeah, interesting guy.
Starting point is 00:40:34 He promised to send me his comedy and he promised I'm gonna send you a clip and you can use it. And I said, where's the clip? Never came, this clip never came. I ended up going to YouTube searching his name and finding something that might've been the clip that it was him. And I just
Starting point is 00:40:46 dropped that. We probably sent to like Ted at gmail.com got that clip. All right, a few more rapid fire that I thought that Danny Kingsbury episode is interesting. Oh, good upset at FOTM. Totally. I told I could totally understand that just a guy who was interesting, had a good career, didn't really seem that into music, which I thought was interesting, but I really enjoyed. Yeah, I just enjoyed hearing his point of view on just a different, a different like lane that he took in kind of mass media from back in the day. So I thought that was interesting. Rob Salem, we touched on his appearance was good. I did listen to the John Gallagher episode. I worry
Starting point is 00:41:25 about John. Yeah. Um, you know, I do think about him. He sounded pretty good in that episode. Or I do, but does he like turn it on, turn it off? I don't know. Like I feel like he's generally at one register, but uh, I don't know. Yeah. Yeah. You got that, uh, Dodge Ram truck money coming. Yeah. But I, you know, Ian service corrected me. Apparently it's not Dodge Ram truck money coming up. Yeah, but I, you know, Ian service corrected me. Apparently it's not Dodge Ram anymore. It's just, it's just Ram. They somehow they Ram, but I mean, I always think of it as Dodge Ram.
Starting point is 00:41:51 I don't know. The Ram jam. They've burned that in. Oh, black Betty Ram jam. A few more. The Don Pyle episode was great. Don't sleep on the Don Pyle episode. It was fantastic.
Starting point is 00:42:02 Yeah. And, and shadowy men, I feel like are perpetually underrated. amount of like musicians. And I know there you've gotten some stuff with the Dallas good in that episode. And also, uh, who's the guy who's the yeah, Steve Albini and the, but who's there? Remember Reed diamond also. Yeah. So kind of a sad episode, but like Don Pyle very, his four, he's into topical cause he just had a hairdresser on today. You know him work is a barber in this year because andy the barber made his debut this year. So three hair stylists you get to get them all together. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:42:33 Um so yeah, those episodes are great and then last but not least, I I be remiss if I didn't mention my my beautiful wife, M F making her Toronto Mike debuted and at Chrissy Christie Pitts. Who would have thought that she hopped on the? That's true. You know, don't overlook that. MF made her. Did you include that in your statistics? MF included as officially, although it's interesting. She'll come on, but don't ask me anything about, you know, what is like high person who married Cam Gordon. Nice to see you here. Here's some hair. He's mama for you, but it was great to have MF. Okay. A few quick notes from me. One is again, there were episodes that were already recorded and dropped before
Starting point is 00:43:12 we recorded. So we almost need to move closer to the end of the month to get these these episodes in line with the actual quarters, but Biff Naked had just been by, but it was for quarter two. So I just want to point out the mind blow that if naked was hooking up with Rod Black's brother in Winnipeg, yes, and that caused her to have what I would only refer to as like sort of a kink for a body building body. Okay, that's not really a kink. Doesn't that like a just a preference? I think I don't have one of these bodies, so I assume that's sorry just to back up. So Rod Black's brother was a body. Yes, I you should have. I assumed you listened to Biff naked. No, I'll go back and listen
Starting point is 00:43:51 in the intro just randomly. I kind of mix up on the fly. Now I don't necessarily read the script anymore. I might say something off whatever this unscripted and on the fly. I just said something about Rod Black's mustache is going to make an appearance at which it didn't. By the way, it didn't. By the fly, I just said something about Rod Black's mustache is going to make an appearance at didn't by the way. It didn't, by the way, he blames his son, though God, I just type like I'm just making notes of episodes to listen to. I typed in Biff naked at Auto Cracker to big naked. Oh yeah, that's that's another that's that's the Milton Berle retrospect.
Starting point is 00:44:20 But Biff is awesome. Just a good spirit. She's I want to get her back. She just dropped a new album. But OK, so I think it's called Champion. So Biff naked in Winnipeg good spirit. She's so I want to get her back. She just dropped a new album, but okay. So I think it's called champion. So Biff naked's in Winnipeg because that's where she was raised and and yeah, well that's he went back to Vancouver slither slithered back to them.
Starting point is 00:44:36 So Biff naked is in Winnipeg and she starts hanging out with having fun with Rod Black's brother who is a body builder is a bodybuilder, is a bodybuilder. Derek Black. Derek Black, I think you're right. And I just think this is such a, she only pointed this out off the top because I said Rod Black's name and she goes, Rod Black from Winnipeg?
Starting point is 00:44:54 And I go, the one and the same. And then she breaks into the story. And it's a bit of a mind blow, small world story that Biff Naked was hooking up with Rod Black's brother in Winnipeg and he's a bodybuilder. And she had an attraction to bodybuilders for years. Amazing. And maybe it's not a kink. I don't even know what kink is. I have no, no judgments on
Starting point is 00:45:10 my part. I think I'm just jealous that no woman has ever been attracted to me because my bodybuilder body. Well, I mean you keep kayaking and maybe things will. What's his name again? Eric, Derek Black, Derek Black. Okay. The, uh, by the way, on that Biff naked episode, the clip that I included in the opening was from the Biff naked episode. Okay. I didn't know where it was from. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:45:30 I didn't even remember saying that. It does. That's definitely something I would say. Sorry. This is not, oh, it's nowhere. I think these are like AI images. This cam cams trying to find their quick hits. I also thought Ben Johnson was awesome. Like I got to have
Starting point is 00:45:46 a hundred minutes with Ben and we just talked about everything and soon I'll get to the clips. But if I don't hear some Ben Johnson voice, you're doing it wrong. Okay. The Joe Carter classic. I want to thank Rod Black for getting me. Just think about this. Okay. I'm set up in the clubhouse at Glen Abbey in Oakville and I'm having these conversations with like Joe Carter. When I play the Tom Cheek call of Joe Carter home run, Joe Carter is right there and he's melding it like he's lip syncing it. And it's a while, I wish I had a camera on this guy, but he's lip syncing it. And then he's, you know, wow, what a surprise. And like, what do you want me to play? Anyway, it was a great chat with Joe and Jose Bautista and Josh Donaldson Wendell Clark Rick Vive
Starting point is 00:46:29 Who am I? Who's the hockey Bernie Nichols? Like out of nowhere? He was actually kind of kind of cool Yeah, he was cool and Tom Cochran and Jack Armstrong and this all happened because they let me cuz joke What's his name? My Rod Black put in a word, but only the fan 590 was there with me. So fan 590 was live to air in the morning and I was just by the side. Shout out to Tim Heron, who was my driver for the event. He was driving Paul Burford, now he's driving me.
Starting point is 00:46:57 So early in the morning, my car has arrived to take me to Glen Abbey for this recording. That was FOTM Tim Heron. Mike, can you share, I don't know how comfortable like I was a little curious to see Josh Donaldson just even being at that tournament because I always got the sense would he be the next guy to go down like kind of the Aubrey Huff Huff, Kurt Schilling, path of retired ballplayers. What would you like to know Cam? Well yeah just what he was like in person. So you know these are people who I'm literally the guy I'm running up to them in the hallways and just saying hey do you have five?
Starting point is 00:47:29 Minutes to come on my show and sometimes like who are you right and he was a guy he gave me a look like I don't really have time for you. Like I got the look I don't have time and then I said just five minutes I promise or something and he kind of looked at me again like he goes Okay, and he sits down puts on the headphones and chats me up for five minutes, I promise or something. And he kind of looked at me again, like and he goes, okay, and he sits down, puts on the headphones and chats me up for five minutes. So I think, well, he did that like, that's awesome. So I don't know. Okay, good. But sometimes, you know, like, like, um, who, like Tom Cochran was kind of had more time and it was more relaxed and it was quite a
Starting point is 00:47:59 mark. Where does he live? Do we know? Like, is he in Toronto, like in on tear? Because he's he's from Manitoba as well. Yeah, but he lives in Ontario. Yeah. I thought, I thought he was saying that he was living out in BC or did I hear that wrong? I don't know. Somebody, uh, Hey, uh, fact check. I can pull up the transcript Robert loss and find out. Yeah. Get this transcript. Okay. So I'll quickly. Where is he? Where's he at? I want to close with a Peter gross note, but uh, the two, I did two episodes at Christie pits in this quarter and that got me the debut of Wendell Clark. I got
Starting point is 00:48:27 Rick Vive on the mic, Rick Emmett on first time I met him because he was on zoom the first couple of times. So I loved my Christie pits recordings. I got another one on August 4th and again, MF meter debut at Christie pits classified came over, loved my chat with classified in person, big fan of classified honeymoon suite came over. I don't want to bury that one. You over loved my chat with classified in person big fan of classified honeymoon suite came over I don't want to bury that one you know you mentioned Bob Rae that was wild he was fun to talk to you but don't sleep on the Tamara cherry episode that one surprisingly strong actually I listened to that one
Starting point is 00:48:57 yeah she was pretty easy she's a little wacky yeah the right amount of wacky yeah definitely not hard- like that other guy. Steve Ryan. Jeremy Hopkins. Have those two on together. Jeremy Hopkins points out that I am throwing out the first pitch on August 4th. So more reason to show up.
Starting point is 00:49:14 Which got rained out the first time you were getting to it? Yeah, the first time it got rained out. And I had two rain outs in a row, but one of them was supposed to be my pitch. OK. Quick note here before I close with Peter Gross is that FOTM Jamie Dew has an event on July 19th. You can buy tickets. It's a Gord Downey event. Gord's brother is going to be there and there's a hip cover band and they're going to talk about this. It's called discovering Downey
Starting point is 00:49:42 and they're going to talk about Gord Downey. So Jamie, do we root for you? You're a good FOTM. He's got this event and a FOTM should go out. I will be there. I hate to say, I think it was in Q2. I actually went on his podcast is a pavement podcast called meeting Malkmas. There's a, I didn't even know he had a pavement five, five tens of listeners to that one where we talked about the, so I had no idea this happened. How come you don't promote this on the
Starting point is 00:50:07 I think I put on an Instagram story which got zero engagement. I don't look at stories and I'm missing out on these things. OK, well, I would have listened to that maybe. But so shout out to Jamie do last note before we move on. I got another stinger to play. We got clips before you go to the stinger. Oh, we have clips, oh my goodness. I did bury a couple, like Charlie Angus,
Starting point is 00:50:30 I enjoyed chatting with Charlie Angus, I thought that was a cool get. We did a strange advanced deep dive with Drew Arnott, and that was fun. I will quickly say Neil Herland made his debut, and I loved talking to Neil, who's a big fan of the podcast. Gene Champagne gifted me these drumsticks. That I've been hearing you fucking around with
Starting point is 00:50:49 on every episode. Yeah, I kinda like, I love it, okay. Bernie McNamee, longtime CBC guy, along with Simon Dingley, these are a couple of guys who were at the CBC forever. Simon Jest retired and they were fantastic, but you know, we talked about Jeremy Hopkins, Hopkins making a couple of visits.
Starting point is 00:51:04 Adam Bunch made his Toronto Mike debut in the second quarter. And I really loved the Adam bunch episode. So quickly I almost Marks Wolinski made his podcast debut. He's never done any podcast and he just retired from the Toronto star. He came by Steve Patterson dropped by from the debaters on CBC and there was a Brighton Rock deep dive with Greg Fraser and who saw that one coming so Brighton Rock begat Honeymoon Suite and it was all good man so a lot of fun debuts. You know who was at Simon Dingley's farewell party? MF. MF was there. There were some other interesting names. What's the connection?
Starting point is 00:51:44 They're just friends. They're, they're friends. Okay. Last thing because I've been asked about this quite a bit. Last time Peter Gross came on, we played clips from his court appearance because he's up the creek without a paddle and I have paddles with my unlike you foldable kayak. It's wonderful. It's unbelievable. Thank you for that kayak. So Peter Gross is in some hot water with insurance and delivering food. And we, I recorded his zoom court appearance and I played some clips cause the judge said some very interesting things about how
Starting point is 00:52:17 fucked Peter gross is and how unfairly fucked he is and how does he get out of that? And I didn't think it was fair to Peter. So I put this, I, we did this right afterwards. I recorded Peter and I have the clips and you know, Peter's reacting. Man, that was a mistake, okay? Don't do that. I'm here to say you're not allowed to record court proceedings and you're definitely not allowed
Starting point is 00:52:35 to share those clips on your very public podcast. I went for a bike ride right after I published and on the bike ride I got calls and warnings and lawyers and cops and OPP. And it was a whole thing. Are you serious? Are you ready for this? No. So I get home. Yeah, because this I missed when I was again dealing with stuff.
Starting point is 00:52:54 So I sort of remember it. I was getting people like David Ryder were telling me, you know, you can be in real serious trouble and these people all just care about me and don't want me behind bars for this. So I get home from my bike ride and I edit it. I censor it. So if you hear it now, instead of hearing the judge's voice, you hear beep. I got rid of all that stuff. Okay. But it was too late. The judge had already written a letter to Peter gross and Peter gross gets his letter. He phones me. He goes, I got a letter today. I'm like, what? See me in my chambers at Monday morning at 9am.
Starting point is 00:53:25 Imagine me. I got a letter. It says not the government though. I got a letter from the court the other day. I opened it, read it. It said they were suckers. They wanted me in their chamber at 9am Monday. Imagine me giving a damn.
Starting point is 00:53:38 I said never. Contempt. So Peter Gross has to go into the chambers and there's the lawyer that was also on the other side and the judge and I guess basically I don't know how much to share here except I will tell you that we're okay like we got off of a big warning like don't ever do that again that's very very serious but the judge did ask Peter something interesting so I will tell you guys now I'm no lie here I was doing the zoom because Peter doesn't know how to hell it do a zoom so I was handling all the tech and the recording and everything. There was no disclaimer at
Starting point is 00:54:08 the beginning of this court. Nothing said on my screen. Don't record this. Recording is illegal. But the judge said there's a disclaimer that says you can't you can't record this as against there was no disclaimer. So I'm here to tell you there was no disclaimer. I mean I think it's implied. Is it? Is it? I don't like don't record and publish. Who told you to wear the bomb? I didn't tell you to wear the bomb. I didn't.
Starting point is 00:54:32 I didn't know. I won't do it again. Thank you for telling me. But they said to Peter, the judge goes to Peter, Peter, do you know it's illegal to record? And remember, there's no disclaimer. Peter goes, oh yeah, I worked in media for 30 years. I know it's illegal.
Starting point is 00:54:43 I cannot tell a lie. And I'm and he's telling me this triangle Peter. There's only one answer to that fucking question. I didn't know, but now I do. It won't happen again. Yeah. Anyway, I wanted to just put a bow on the Peter Gross legal trouble or Tyler and I accessories to this now like my virtue. Are we just don't need this? Do I need an attorney? No, but I do have clips. Okay, so do you want to set up these clips or yeah? Yeah, so we touched on a little bit already. You talked about it, but the episode of the quarter for me
Starting point is 00:55:11 is fourteen seventy four Ben Johnson with Mary Ormsby better, and it's absolutely incredible to me that he sat here for a hundred minutes. He spoke so candidly. He talked about his beef with Donovan Bailey. He talked. He had a lot to say who is over the next day. Yeah, no love. It came up and he goes Ben was here. There's a little bit of like Ben was in this. He also had like a good sense of humor and he just kind of left left it all on the floor and what was really fascinating to me was the interplay between you and Ben and Mary, yeah, right, who is kind of like his his handler and
Starting point is 00:55:45 Ben would make a really bold statement with absolutely no proof and you challenge him on it and Mary would say oh well, that's just Ben's theory right and then and amazingly like it didn't break down. So I just wanted to play a couple of my favorite clips from the I love it. So the first this is the first one that's been talking about his theory that he was set up for the test and he was slipped pills by someone in Carl Lewis's entourage. And Ben, what do you think Andre Jackson did in that room? Like I guess I'm trying to find out specifically what do you believe he did to influence this drug
Starting point is 00:56:18 test? After I was in so great pain working on my killies, Valomara was focused on my killies and I was my head was bowed down in pain. And nine beers in. Yeah. Don't bury the lead here. He was a pretty happy guy. And then that's where I started to slip these pills in my drinks and I start to drink it another,
Starting point is 00:56:40 another, another and then after two and a half hours, after I speak to the prime minister and I came back down and and I went to I went to present my urine after two and a half hours later. You believe you believe he put the pills in your yes yes of course of course okay so you didn't you didn't see him do it but he okay so yeah that's a great clip because he believes that Andre Jackson this guy who shouldn't have been there this American Who's a friend of Carl Lewis's in his entourage? He shouldn't have been there. I don't know why they let him in there Yeah, it's very strange. It's all strand. That's what why there's a book about it now by Mary arms be so the the discussion continues
Starting point is 00:57:18 And then you asked Ben about another theory of his which is the motivation behind him being framed And this is this is a bit of a longer clip, but I think it's important to T here the whole thing. Uh, cause it, and it's fascinating to me because you do a really good job of challenging him here. Cause it, and it feels like it might just go off the rails. There's one point where it feels like Ben just might say, fuck this, I'm out of here, but you, you did a great job keeping him grounded and you maintain the rapport. And so I let's listen to the clip. Well, you know, I'm not going to take the blame for
Starting point is 00:57:47 everybody else from doing and I'm only one. So I have the right to defend myself and I will, and I'm going to and until this matter is closed and that's it. So then you're suggesting that you were set up to fail the drug test in Seoul. Correct. And the comment the skullduggery there just because I need to follow up that one just for a moment here. Okay you believe it was because you had slighted Adidas by changing from Adidas to the Adora? Yeah. You have to
Starting point is 00:58:26 understand all these shoes company works. Uh there is no way people that run where all these different type of shoes could test positive because they give a lot of money to the world that is our IWF at a time sponsorship money. So they want to make sure that they're protected. So when the
Starting point is 00:58:46 consumers or the public go and buy Puma or Nike or Adidas, that's where they make the money because everybody wants to wear Adidas because guys are going to go to Olympic games in Olympic games, go medal in these gears. So that's what it's all about. So they could not allow a small shoes company from Italy becomes the one shoes company in the world. Can't happen. Okay and this is pure speculation right? Like you don't actually, you just that's a suspicion you have. No, it's not a suspicion. This is facts. Ben's theory. Ben's theory of course. Now is it even more likely a question I wanted to ask is if Ben you are you're Canadian? If you're okay yeah I go back okay since
Starting point is 00:59:33 you don't believe me. Not that I don't believe you it's just do you do you research go back to the 1992 Olympic Games in Tokyo when all some of those Americans athletes get Get hurt off a sudden officer. Everybody's good getting hurt the Barcelona mean or 1991 world championship Everybody was gonna hurt in that race because they know that somebody that's gonna test pause because that the system is accurate and then they come back in 1996 and set a record, make a buck from all the years of disappointment, then make it back up in 1996, it begins when the truck service gets better and faster.
Starting point is 01:00:13 And just to be clear Ben, I actually am not sitting here thinking that I don't believe you, not at all actually. Like I do believe you were a scapegoat in Seoul and I believe you were not given proper due diligence and justice here. Where I can't go with you because there's no evidence at all is like the speculation that it had anything to do with a shoe contract like that to me is like that's a Ben theory, but that's not a that's not a fact or or Mary would have had the first thing the first chapter would have been full of the the facts.
Starting point is 01:00:43 But it's almost I'm going to just bring it back to the fact that you're running for Canada. You're Canadian and Carl Lewis, of course, is American. And my big question for you is if you were running for the United States of America, would you have been caught doping in Seoul? Never happen. Never will. Not in a lifetime. Watch out Peter. That's that last last point I might be able to get into that. Yeah, I know. I think it is a different consideration. Yeah, countries. I'm not saying it's right or wrong. I mean, it's speculation. It's hypothetical, but wow, that's a wild theory. Yeah, well, you I mean, that's me.
Starting point is 01:01:19 You know what it's like, right? Like if it was you to tell me that I'd like you're full of shit like what's wrong with you? Like think about it. But you know, I have utmost respect for the gasser. Of course, honored that he's here because when he, when that book came out by Mary arms, be I was, you know, interested in where will I hear Ben's voice? Like I'm not talking about a print article by Steve Simmons or something that where will I hear Ben's voice? There's a new book out by Mary arms be that, you know, all about Ben. I don't remember hearing Ben's voice. I don't know. Did Joe Tilley gets Ben's voice, maybe a remote or something.
Starting point is 01:01:49 Ben didn't do any in-person. I thought he did, um, with Spade Paken. Did he not go on TV? Ontario? Oh, did he? Did I feel in the, in the studio? Maybe I'm just thinking, maybe I'm just thinking he was at the book launch event. Well, he was. I hung out with him at the bar. I could be wrong be wrong. Yeah. OK, so I don't know. That came later. Maybe a shadow to F.O.G. and Steve Pagan. But that Mike, again, like again, I say this with complete sincerity, like what? That's like an amazing piece of audio.
Starting point is 01:02:14 Like one of the biggest, you know, Canadian news events of our lifetime, too, of it all getting re litigated again, too. And then I remember when this book came out, it was a big it was a big news. So and you know, there's no edits to Toronto Mike Toronto Mike so I have this I don't have the safety net right so it's all happening in real time and there are people on the live stream people watching it live and I'm not going to edit a stitch no matter what because that's that's my my jam but I really was happy with how the Ben Johnson episode came out. I would say it's one of the episodes I missed. I did hear the clips, I think somewhere,
Starting point is 01:02:46 or I heard listen to a bit of it, but I'm gonna need to go back and listen. And then we're gonna get into the Wiki section in a bit, but I feel like there'll be stuff in this podcast that might not be anywhere else on the public record that might need to go into the Wikipedia. 100%, 100%. And I think it really speaks to your experience.
Starting point is 01:03:04 You've done this for over 1500 episodes and you've had, you know, hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of interviews. I think a less experienced interviewer or podcaster would have just accepted what he was saying and said, yeah, yeah, okay, sure. Ben, that sounds good. But you challenged them on it. Well, I got my training from Jane Sibary. That's right. I couldn't understand. How was that not a fun fact? Yeah. Yeah, exactly. It's all about the Olympic. Absolutely. But you challenged them on it and, but, but you didn't lose the, you didn't lose them, right? Like you, you, you kept them with you and,
Starting point is 01:03:34 and you, you, yeah, it was, I thought it was really, really well done. Thank you, Tyler. Can I ask this as a total aside? Yeah. There was an exhibition race at the sky dome. Was it Donovan? Was it? Oh, the dome was Michael Johnson. Yeah. Donovan Bailey, Michael Johnson. Donovan Bailey. Okay. Michael Johnson pulled up lame. I was watching a lot of Canadians, but it was, they decided who's Michael Johnson started saying that because he won the 200, he was the fastest man. He was kind of talking shit. Yeah. And Don was like, no buddy. That's not how it works. Like, fuck you. The hundred meter winner is the fastest man in the world. In fact, Donovan's the
Starting point is 01:04:07 fastest man. Yeah. Nine eight four, by the way. Yeah. Yeah. And they decided they would meet. I think Donovan made a lot of cash out of this. Canain soil at the dome. 150 meter race. Michael Johnson. That was great. And Michael Johnson pulls up lane pretty early in that race. He knew it was toast and just bailed. Yeah. What do you think? You know what? Even having that chat, I I play a clip I talked to Donovan about that like that's why I love hosting the show is I get a chance to cut I want to talk to Ben Johnson I get to talk to Donovan Bailey all the time I love it yeah it's a lot of fun all right you got a third one last clip that I wanted to share for this episode
Starting point is 01:04:38 from this episode from this episode yeah there's a moment as you're wrapping up this part of the discussion where Ben makes a very startling assertion and we hear a new character that all called Flustered Mike. Maybe I don't want to play this one. I don't know if I should play the Flustered Mike. Okay, let's listen. Flustered Mike. I know what I did wrong, yes, but like I said it was a playing field because I do it better than these people are and I win gold medal making a lot of money and they didn't want that. I'm still here and all those people that come against me. They all died.
Starting point is 01:05:11 Okay. Okay. Because of my faith and what I believe in and what it is. I believe in the faith and the faith and the faith and the faith and the faith and the faith and the faith and the faith and the faith Okay. Because of my faith and what I believe in and what it is. That's that's that's that's great. Okay, that is great. It's great for Brad Jones.
Starting point is 01:05:38 I think I was trying to figure out what he meant. Yeah. Like I mean in real time, right? I don't still not sure I'm listening back. I'm not sure what he meant. Well, Charlie Francis is meant. I'm in real time, right? I'm still not sure. I'm listening back. I'm not sure what he meant. Well, Charlie Francis is dead. I'm trying to think who else? Jamie Astafan. Jamie Astafan, right? He's the doctor. He doesn't trust. He got what he was saying. He trusted Charlie. He still loved Charlie Francis. Like a father figure.
Starting point is 01:05:58 Where's Charles Dubbin these days? Probably dead. He's got to be dead. He's got to be dead. So I was trying to process and really to react. I need to know what he said. Right. And I will say I found him very easy to follow. No stutter, by the way. You remember how he used to stutter back in the we used to hear him in the late 80s, early 90s. He started no stutter with me. But Jesus, I wasn't sure quite what he what he meant by did he kill these people? So I'm I don't know how to you're right. That's flustered Mike. I don't know. I don't know how to react. Okay. You know what it's like when
Starting point is 01:06:27 you're live like this with both. It's if one Mississippi to Mississippi of silence, might as well be ten fucking minutes. You're rarely at a loss for work. I don't know how to respond to this man. He just said that but anyway, Rosie great. He will itemize all this in Wikipedia page later tonight. So I'm excited to play another stinger, but there's another clip. Well, that clip clip for is no one for we played, but there's a five five comes later. See, I should have read my notes. It all came so late because I expected like you would have read it. I would have read it. All right. So to just
Starting point is 01:07:02 recap, what a fun quarter. I will say at the end of the first FOTM cast, I felt this feeling of like, oh, how do I top that? I felt pressure. Like, what if all episodes suck in the second quarter and there's nothing to talk about in the next FOTM cast? Like there's nowhere to hide now with the FOTM cast. And I'm kind of pleased with how it all came together with that Father's Day episode, Don P pile, Bob Ray, Ben Johnson, you know, Charlie Angus, Dave and horn. I'm just just it all came together and Jerry Levitan. You mentioned him earlier, but that was one of the oh my God, what an episode it's like he's for us come for something with these stories. So thank you and yeah, there were a lot of these
Starting point is 01:07:41 collectives. I did to Christie pits with kind of a long. I have rich butler is now an FOTM. So you know, at least when we started this past quarter, there was was Rob Butler quarter one is Q one. Okay, so Rob Butler was the first Toronto blue J to be on Toronto, Mike in the first quarter of this year. Now added to that list is his brother rich. Well, rich was technically Q three. Is that right? And also, did he ever play in the majors? Yes, he did. Yes, he did. And he played for the Tampa Bay.
Starting point is 01:08:09 He was in the expansion draft. Yeah, he did. But he was in, he played like a little, little bit with like in the midnight, like 97 or something like that, maybe or something like that. Yeah. I knew I was sitting down with Roy Butler. I read his pulling up the baseball 100%. He played for the read his 100% he played for no he did not no he did not yes he did 100% oh he did rich play my mistake okay I'm sorry first you told
Starting point is 01:08:34 me Gloria Martin is Angie Martin's sister and now you think corrected so he wasn't the night last quarter but I did get three blue jay greats I got Jose Batista Josh Donaldson and Joe Carter and I there was. I got Jose Batista, Josh Donaldson and Joe Carter. And I, there was a moment with Jose Batista where I said, there needs to be a statue of you in the bat flip outside the dome. And he's like, yeah. And I'm like, and as I said it, I said, why the fuck is there not a statue of Joe Carter leaping Joe Carter after touching them all and making or whatever after the walk off. And the greatest moment since 1993 for every blue J fan is the bat flip. Yep. Where
Starting point is 01:09:10 the you know what? There's only one answer and it was referenced in a podcast I heard earlier today from the Toronto star FOTM Bruce Arthur. I listen to this. Okay, I listen to this. Bruce, Bruce Arthur, Dave Fest check and they Chuck and they brought in Richard Griffin and this, they said this current management team that came from Cleveland, Shapiro and Atkins, cannot acknowledge, they cannot recognize the greatness of the bat flip because that was the Anthropolis era and they simply can't shine a light on that cause it makes this
Starting point is 01:09:43 current era era look so shitty. I, I, and I believe that. Yeah. I listened to that. I thought it was actually like, and I give Bruce Arthur I'm not always the biggest fan of, but I thought all three did like a really great job of just like really the last 10 years where they're right on the precipice, but something's off. And I, and I'll just be blunt I worked for this company for a bit and having seen it from the inside a lot of stuff I'll just say add it up with what they shared on that episode and it'll be really interesting to see what the next few years
Starting point is 01:10:16 Looks like cuz I don't know Mike you've you've been very vocal about how much you dislike this current crop of because of how they came on during the the the, the hype train of 2015, which was the most blue J fever I felt since 93. Yeah, it was amazing. I went to sleep for a while. I loved watching Roy Halliday and Carlos Delgado and there was, you know, Vernon Wells and some good times there, but nothing felt like it felt at the end that when we caught the Yankees, you know, that I was going to the games at the end of that, the, the playoffs, you know, that I was going to the games at the end of that, the playoffs, you know, the bat flip seventh inning. What a run. It was incredible. What a run. And to basically hire somebody from Cleveland to take over for Paul Beeston and then for Alex Anthopoulos to basically leave because, you know, Shapiro wants to handle the baseball stuff like he did in Cleveland.
Starting point is 01:11:03 Honestly, I don't want this current management team to win. So now I find myself just rooting against the blue jays. I gotta say like the 2021 season where they weren't in the players, but like that was like when Marcus was in here. That was a fucking great team. Great vibes around the team. Vladi and Bo were into it. Since 2016, there's zero playoff games won by this team.
Starting point is 01:11:22 Since 2016. And like the farm teams like totally gutted. It just, it's not gonna be like dark days in the next few years. And that was the thing when, when Shapiro and Atkins came in and they, they were shitting all over Anthopolis for having treated all those prospects away, but they've done nothing with the farm system. I mean, what are you supposed to do? And all they did was excite the fan base.
Starting point is 01:11:41 Yeah. It's hit a late the Toronto mics out there. Yeah. I think Richard Griffin interesting cause he worked for the team too. And he was clearly out of fucks to give because he was like very candid. We're just like, he thinks just, you know, the team has just been focused on these renovations and totally run prevention. Yeah. And totally out of step with like real changes.
Starting point is 01:12:00 You watch Oscar Hernandez is going to win that home run Derby. Yeah, I know. Oh yeah, it's wild. And like I, and you know what that clusterfuck, cause we recorded together, you Cam, you were there Tyler, TMLX 14 was the day after the flight. That's right. Showy Otani on it.
Starting point is 01:12:15 Not really. It had a dragon on it, but the communication that, you know, Rogers went with it, I'm talking about Sportsnet and I'm talking about, the whole thing was just so stupid. The whole thing, when I look back at it, like the blue J's must've known show a, Oh, Tony was not on that flight and they stayed quiet.
Starting point is 01:12:32 They didn't tip off one of their many sports net blue J broadcasters. Hey, shy Davidi, FYI, he's not on that flight. Like, let's stop this madness. And we were all led to believe he was on that, that fucking flight. And he was never going to be on that flight. And I would say if you read that whole series that the star did about all the teams and just like, how did we get here with all our teams? Like I thought it was like really, really well done. One major championship in the big three and they did that nice job off the top of that.
Starting point is 01:13:00 These are all the cities that have an NBA team, an MLB team and an NHL team. And here's how many championships they have in LA. Here's how many championships they have in Miami. Here's how many, so on and so on. How many championships in Toronto? One, the Raptors won in 2019. I don't think it's discussed that much, but like the last two years, the right, like somebody's trade like the Jacob hurdle and like Kelly, like what the fuck are these trades?
Starting point is 01:13:24 What are we doing? which I hope you did? This makes I was like we got to sell get a lottery pick because this team shit let's get this built for the future and they went and added Purdle. Yeah, yeah, it never made sense. Yeah anyway, go team can I am excited to watch team Canada this summer in
Starting point is 01:13:40 Paris. Yeah, I mean can Kenny Illiniak will be in there. All right, I have a stinger to play. Oh yeah. Yep. This is a Biles, Atlanta Biles. Yes, indeed. I had the CD. It's a good jam. Still got this thing for you. Is that what it is? Yeah. Crack that open. Is that a cold one? It's like, it's not cold. It's fine. It's open. It's monkey down here. All right, Tyler, set up this segment. Well, this is cam. This is all cam. This is forgotten. Can con. Oh, okay. And sorry, in this song, a bad, bad case of loving you. This song, I get mixed up with Robert Palmer. What is this one called? Still got that this this thing for you. Still got this thing for you.
Starting point is 01:14:26 Okay. Shout out to Christopher Ward. Okay. So confusing. Sorry. What is this? Oh, I have a song. No, I know.
Starting point is 01:14:33 I know what it is. We're all angry. I saw like rich Butler's face. I can't believe you had the audacity to tell us that. I was wrong. I never played for the Charlie corrected. Anyway, you talk to the man on Sunday, final comment. You know, you need to get on because I think all your listeners would love to see what he's up to.
Starting point is 01:14:52 Can you get Rob Doocy on? I would. Yeah. What does Rob do? So I would love Rob Cambridge's own Rob. I need. And then at some point I need to get going to Cambridge after I can find him, track him down, track him down. And then I got to get Dalton Pompeo show the show as well. Awesome. Get all these guys. Okay. Set up this jam and I'll play it.
Starting point is 01:15:08 Okay. So to the listeners again, cause the FOTM cast is still fairly new. This is a reoccurring segment. No assumptions. No assumptions where we dust off a forgotten piece of Cancana song that should be familiar to some listeners of not everyone. I'll be curious. Let's listen to the song if you guys
Starting point is 01:15:25 know the song. I recognized it, I'm not sure anyone else will, but this was on the radio, this song, and we're going to talk about it in a second. A forgotten piece of CanCon. What's going on? You made me a believer You really turned me on It reminds me of another song, hold on. Oh, it's all time. This is, you know, why you gotta do. So you better think twice. If you know what's good for you. One last kiss is never enough. Oh, wait. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:16:41 Now, you know this. I remember this. OK. What about you, Tyler? How about you? It feels familiar, but I can't. But it feels like other songs. Yeah. Yeah, you know this. I remember this song. Okay. What about you, Tyler? How about you? It feels familiar, but I can't. But it feels like other songs. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:16:50 Like a million. But I remember that hook. Yeah. One last kiss is never enough. But if you had said to me, whose song is this? I would be dead right now. Yeah, I know, I know. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:16:57 I, when I heard this, I was thinking for a sec of the second Sophie B. Hawkins song, Lay Me Down or something. But no, it's not that this song is one last kiss. You heard on the chorus by Sophia Shines, Sophia Shines. What do you know about Sophia? Well, I know a lot because I did some research. Before we go into it, I forget which one of you guys said this sounds like another
Starting point is 01:17:26 song. It remind me the Primal Scream song Come Together. Oh, yeah. Like almost that like acid house, Andy Weatherhouse type like beat. But sounds very much this song's from 1993. I'll just say it sounds very 1993. The video is very 1993. I recommend looking it up
Starting point is 01:17:45 It is on YouTube, but until this part this one Laska says never until then I'm not quite sure what the song is totally and then but same thing of Andy who needed to hear the chorus But then she remembered yeah, Jeremy Hopkins. So sort of so Sophia. How does he know this? He's a Renaissance man. I mean he did just write it. He's not like I know this like transcribing. Okay. You just dropped the link in there. Okay. Um, and he says this is a terrible song. Yeah. So she had one other hit, something called the message, not a cover of the grand master. Because I'm close to the according to Wikipedia, the message was the top 100 hit in the U and then one last kiss this definitely was a radio hit I probably like a mix 99 point song. I remember
Starting point is 01:18:31 Then how do I know was it how much music maybe because I feel like I've heard it But I would never have listened to the videos like pretty it's pretty like sexy. She's like make out some guy It's black and white. It's again very very 1993. Is it Chris Isaac? sexy very very similar but like how the Canadian It's some guy, it's black and white. It's again, very, very 1993. Is it Chris Isaac? Yes, we can. Sexy, very, very similar, but like how the Canadian you know, sexy only because I played it today when I was sending this to you guys via email, but why do you live like James?
Starting point is 01:18:56 Oh, yeah. Barnburner. Oh, my God. It's getting hot. Is it hot in here? Is it just a don't be a sweatpants when that came on. So here's some fun facts about Sophia Shinus. She received a Juno Award nomination for most promising female vocalist in 1993. Do you want to hear who the other nominees were? Of course.
Starting point is 01:19:18 What year? 1993. Very obscure year. I'll just say that. So we got Sue Foley and Lisa Brokaw, both country artists. But I know the name Sue Foley. Yeah, so do I. She's a guitarist and she has a guitar album. Yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 01:19:33 So we got Priscilla Wright, who was 53 years old at the time. Oh wow, that was promising. Yeah, so kind of like, remember like Shelby Lynn? Got like best new artist. Yeah, it's like the Sergey Makarov rookie of the year. Exactly. 100%. And the winner was Julie Mass.
Starting point is 01:19:50 Do we know Julie Mass? The big Quebecois artist and married to somebody that you're definitely familiar with. Married to Corey Hart. Oh, okay. Julie Mass. That's a, that's a fun fact. That is fun. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:20:04 That's a fun fact. I enjoyed that. And just for the for the same just so we can you know, keep things equitable here most promising male vocalists of the year From the list of five to the runner-ups one was Devon. Oh, yeah Who says you can't say Yoda princess the other I thought this was funny was John McDermott Which I didn't know this so I did a bit of a John McDermott deep dive. He actually worked for Toronto. He actually worked for the Toronto sun, uh, working as a circulation representative, but Conrad Black somehow knew that this guy's saying, and he actually Conrad Black finance a recording of Danny boy.
Starting point is 01:20:41 I actually know that. Yes, he would do. I've many, many an anthem. Yeah. Maple Leaf Garden. Absolutely. And then went on to play the flat toe theater in Markham and Richmond Hill performing. I actually have heard this rendition of Danny boy. I feel like pulled this for like a St. Patrick's day episode at some point. Yeah. That adds anyway, they were the runners up. The winner was someone named John, John bottomly. I sort of remember this name. Yeah, but yeah, yeah, a lot of forgotten country. Anyway, this country made a few more fun facts about Sophia shyness. She, she also had quite the career as an actor. Most notably, this was actually a big role. She was the fiance of Brandon Lee in the crow. Whoa.
Starting point is 01:21:23 Wow. Shelly was her name, not Shelley. I think yeah, one of my first movies I ever saw in a theater was Popeye as a there you go. Yeah, yeah, yeah. You've all plain. Oh, I also your second most famous role. I have never seen the crow.
Starting point is 01:21:38 I haven't seen really I over three, three guys in their late forties, early fifties soundtrack though. I didn't own the soundtrack. No, but I, cause I already owned core from a purple. Sorry. I had a purple from some temple pilot. So I had big empty here. So here's a terrific. Who's the only Canadian artists on the crow soundtrack? The first one Jane Sibri very good. Yeah. It's like going to rain today or something. You know, I every, every FOTM cast is dedicated to sweet Jane. There you go. So a few more fun facts from Sophia's IMDB page.
Starting point is 01:22:12 She was in a movie called Terminal Velocity with Charlie Sheen and James Gandolfini. I remember this James Gandolfini. Yeah. Wow. And she was also in the second episode ever of a famous Cancon TV show, The Outer Limits. Oh yeah. Got the Twilight Zone of Canada. Can I just run down some of the other names who are season one of The Outer Limits?
Starting point is 01:22:34 Yeah. I'm gonna go rapid fire here, okay? Beau Bridges. Wow. That's a big name. Lloyd Bridges. Wow. Mandelbaum, you remember for Seinfeld?
Starting point is 01:22:42 Oh yeah. Yeah. Of course. Here's an FOTM. Look at the crowd here. An FOTM, we're gonna get to it. You remember for Seinfeld? Oh yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Of course. Here's an FOTM. Look at the crowd here. An FOTM.
Starting point is 01:22:50 We're going to get to it. Who do you think it is? Okay. So slow down. It's an FOTM. Season one of the Outer Limits about 1996. Okay. It's not Su Stone.
Starting point is 01:22:58 It's not Mary Jo Eustace. It's a good guess. Is it Dean McDermott? Is it Dean McDermott? No she she once lived in like the the sort of neanderthal age and whatever other famous roles. Oh yes, of course the gray oh right on the john yeah very good good friend of Mary Joe. That's exactly. You're actually very close. Okay, a few more names, this is someone you should have on Sonia Smith's. Yeah. Why is Sonia Smith's not
Starting point is 01:23:27 an FOTM? I don't know. She was street legal. What's your problem with Cynthia Dale? Yeah, sure. Yeah. Uh, we got Thor Birch from almost American beauty, American beauty, ghost world and stuff. World. She's great. Uh, this seems like this will be an FOTM one day. Megan follows. It's only a matter of time. Yeah. Before she falls to the basement. Here's a big name who's in the show, Josh Brolin. That is a big name.
Starting point is 01:23:51 Yeah. We got, we got Timothy Busfield. Oh yeah. A 30 something in a field of dreams. Family ties. That's huge. You're gonna lose the farm Ray. That's actually a very good bus.
Starting point is 01:24:04 I opened, I opened. That's actually a very good. But you know, I opened, I opened, I opened the father's day episode with a poll from Field of Dreams. And it just to make sure you start to cry before you go. A few more names, Jason London from Jeremy London's twin, right? What are the twins?
Starting point is 01:24:20 And that's party of five. Yeah, Sol Rumitic. So who I just saw. What movie did I just see him in? What's the movie with James Gandolfini written by Quentin Tarantino? Quick. He true Roman. Yes. Oh yeah. Yeah. So Ruben X all over Truman. I just watched this again. He was my neighbor when I lived on Markham Street. You know, it's a good movie. True. It's not as good as a Tantino movie. Let's remember some guys, a few more guys. We
Starting point is 01:24:48 got a list of milano. Oh wow. That's a major guy big kings fan. There you go and someone else who had a very famous role in Seinfeld, Marley Matlin. Oh yeah, huge. Yeah, huge the ball, the ball boy or the ball man. Yeah, crank Kramer and then a few more. Oh, save the two biggest for last. Leonard fucking Nimoy. I almost said Leonard directed here. Three men and a baby that was here. Sorry. Leonard Nimoy. Yeah. Leonard Nimoy. Maybe. Okay.
Starting point is 01:25:15 And Steve Goodenberg's greatest movie of all time was filmed down the street. Police Academy. And last but not least, somebody, I don't really get the appeal, but I'm not the audience. And this would have been at the time a pint-size Ryan Reynolds okay Ryan Reynolds is a likable guy but I would rather see a movie with Ryan Gosling than Ryan yeah they're you guys like all better actor and better movies yeah one final selection from Sophia's IMDB page just once two stones all all time favorite shows.
Starting point is 01:25:46 The Red Shoe Diaries with Fox Mulder. Yeah, very, very sexy late night. You could watch it on what showcase 11 PM on David to Friday night, who was fantastic on Gary Shanley and show Larry Sanders show. He was fucking amazing. Remember the robe? Oh yeah. Remember? Yeah. Yeah. I know. I'm talking to the right guy.
Starting point is 01:26:08 Larry Sanders. Cause you know, my buddy here, won't know what, I know what it is. You watch Scott Thompson, Scott Thompson. Well done. Yeah. There you go. Anyway, Sophia shyness. Another piece I forgot in Cancon quite the resume. You know, that's what she's did a lot of stuff. She's saying she was in movies. She was in educated us because that's a name I did not know. In the song I barely remember, but, uh, great, great. Terrible jam. Not a bad song. That was the name of that segment.
Starting point is 01:26:34 Oh, that's forgotten. Ken. I like that segment. Okay. In the chat said it gets, it got to the point where I had no idea why we're talking about these people. Why are we here if we're not doing that? Exactly. Outer limits steeped. I exactly long overdue. Oh, it's grumpy with a fun. Is that Marvin Gaye?
Starting point is 01:26:58 That is the funky 16 Corners band. Not Martin Gaye. Welcome to Lexicon Corner. And this is the tip of the hat to the origin of this very FOTM cast was us guys getting together in early 2024 for the amazing Lexicon episode. And every time started us all. And you know what? I kept the sound clips loaded up in the board and every once in a while,
Starting point is 01:27:21 I think it happened at Christie Pitts when Blair Packham, oh no I didn't play it at Christy Pitts but he referenced the Jane Sibbery fun fact moment and I almost played it I could have played it but okay Lexicon corner take it away Tyler. Yes so you know I struggled with this one this month because I had a couple of things that I was working on and I was putting some clips together and it wasn't it wasn't hitting for me I think I need to spend some more time with them so I should have taken a day off work I should have so I put them to the side and what I have here for you it's not technically in addition to the lexicon but this is our show we can bend the rules a little bit what this is is an
Starting point is 01:27:59 important piece of Toronto Mike cannon okay so I'm with. It's funny because you mentioned something to me. I think it was actually yesterday in the, in our chat. You said, I need a super cut. So I can tell you, I was on Twitter. Can I still call it that cam? You don't share. You don't work there. Yeah. So, and it was a super cut of Vince McMahon saying the name Bobby Heenan at a, I think a WrestleMania or something, some big event. I can't remember that actually, but it was Bobby Heenan, Bobby Heenan. Like it was a super cut and I watched it and all I could think about was Tom Wilson from junk house saying the name Toronto Mike. He said Toronto Mike.
Starting point is 01:28:38 And I said, I said, VP, we need a super cut of Tom Wilson saying Toronto Mike. So I was going to put it together anyway and maybe give it to you and not play down the episode, but I thought, fuck to you and not play it on the episode, but I thought, fuck it, let's hear it on this episode. Really? So the great Tom Wilson, whenever he appears on the show, will refer to you as Toronto Mike. As he should.
Starting point is 01:28:54 As like it's your proper name. Right. And who are we to argue with Tom Wilson? So you asked for this, I have delivered. Consider this your final 50th birthday gift from me. Why isn't this guy in the FOTM Hall of Fame? This is the- I'm gonna give you a little artwork here.
Starting point is 01:29:04 This is the Tom Wilson calling you Toronto Mike Supercut. Hi Toronto Mike. Slightly under the weather, Toronto Mike. Congratulations. Everybody vote for Toronto Mike. The records that I love Toronto Mike are Kind of Blue by Miles Davis, Muddy Waters, Focus Singer. I was a little bit like Toronto Mike at the podcast awards, because Toronto Mike, when I was a kid, in reality, at the age of 64, Toronto Mike, what are we talking about? And for about three minutes, Toronto Mike, I thought, oh, this is really gonna happen.
Starting point is 01:29:43 Oh, come on now Toronto Mike Mike Toronto Mike, I don't want to interfere with this important information that you're throwing out right now, but I really gotta go No, I got to take care of my body right now Toronto Mike. That's why you're Toronto Mike So I should be Hamilton Tom Hamilton Tom. I will only answer the questions being Hamilton to Hamilton Tom Yeah, you gotta be careful what you ask for Toronto Mike but you are on another level Toronto Mike Toronto Mike if you're in a biker clubhouse you gotta gotta keep your cool and keep your mouth shut and be respectful you know it's like you get married and you got a big party and everybody gets drunk and everybody loves you, Toronto Mike.
Starting point is 01:30:25 But when the marriage ends, it's like, nobody comes around. And everybody hates you, Toronto Mike. It's not right. You've got Toronto Mike. Excuse me, King Clancy did not say that, Toronto Mike. Paul Newman said that. You know what, you are so much like Spotify, Toronto Mike. Except Spotify don't even send me a lasagna.
Starting point is 01:30:45 Hello? Oh, this is great Toronto Mike. This is these people call me and tell me that, you know, credit cards got used. Oh, thank you, Toronto Mike. Good job. Very good. Very well done. And that is a kind of how I envisioned it.
Starting point is 01:31:03 Like as I'm watching the supercut of Vince McMahon saying Bobby Heenan, I'm thinking, oh, this is like Tom Wilson saying Toronto. And just sort of clear, this is all made possible because the the the hosting platform now transcribes every episode. So there's a site called Podscripts.io that it's I think it's just this guy who has like a little AI thing going. Yeah. And you submit a podcast, any podcast and he'll transcribe it for you. That's like horrifying. I don't know. Like I just feel like, again, there's a lot of stuff hiding in plain view. Probably not, not so much in the Toronto Mike podcast.
Starting point is 01:31:37 At least one FOTM has vocalized great concern that the words he uttered on this program and his many visits are now searchable. Oh yeah, that's a silly like he's just, I know, I know who that is, but yeah, we're not allowed to say, but I have seen him a couple of times recently and he's looking good. He's looking good. We got to get him back on the podcast here. Okay, thank you for doing that. I didn't know that was coming. My pleasure. It was a lot of fun and we love Tom Wilson. We absolutely do love Tom Wilson. We absolutely do love Tom Wilson. WikiLeaks, a WikiLeaks, right? So again, I was kind of busy with some other stuff during Q3. So I know it's lame.
Starting point is 01:32:27 I'm honestly going to take you out of the hall of fame and put Tyler in. He's so much more deserving. It took me like 70 minutes to get here. So that's right. Um, so I'm going to be honest, all three of these have nothing to do with the Toronto Mike universe, but I do think you guys will find them interesting. So, uh, I only made three Wikipedia updates this past quarter, but I do think you guys will find them interesting. So I only made three Wikipedia updates this past quarter, but all three are fun. So the first one came on
Starting point is 01:32:51 April 14th. I think you guys were friends on Instagram. You have seen, I post a video. I went to see Matthew sweet. Yes. Live and his drummer for that tour was none other than Debbie Peterson. Do we other than Debbie Peterson. Do we know who Debbie Peterson is? From the bangles bangles bangles. Yeah. So he introduced her, said, Oh, from the bangles, she got a big ovation of the a hundred 50,
Starting point is 01:33:19 60 year olds who were at the concert with me and my brother in law. So updated Debbie Pearson now currently on tour with Matthew Sweet. May 22nd, this actually is tangentially related to the Toronto Mike podcast. Somebody, who got a hernia surgery? Somebody, one of the FOTN's got a hernia. Oh, I know.
Starting point is 01:33:41 Yeah, yeah. It doesn't matter the name. Okay, I'll come up with a name. Are we going to violate HIPAA by? Yeah. Let's not mention this person, but they didn't say it on the recording. Yeah. They didn't go. I think it's just a member of the TMU. Yeah. But there's a discussion in a certain WhatsApp group chat. We don't have to name the person, but the shoulder ice hospital in Thornhill where I grew up, the shoulder ice hospital, about two minutes from the famous thornleigh where
Starting point is 01:34:06 Giangameshi and myself and stewstone and Hayden and all the greats went And I had mentioned there were some politician had a hernia surgery from the US and I googled it It was actually Rand Paul Okay And then I just spent a couple of minutes on Google as they do just saying, and I found all these other articles about all the other famous people who had gotten hernia surgeries at the shoulder dice hospital. I'm like, what the fuck? I have no life. So I'm just going to Wikipedia and lo and behold, there was a shoulder dice hospital Wikipedia entry. So I had a little, uh, line.
Starting point is 01:34:41 Here's some notable people. That's unbelievable. Yeah. So we had Rand Paul, we had a, this is sort of a less line. Here's some notable people. That's unbelievable. Yeah. So we had ran Paul, we had a, this is sort of a less fun. Let's remember some guys. So we got ran Paul, we got Joe Clark, we got Jack laden and this is the mind blow Ralph fucking Nader. Whoa. Yeah. One time independent candidate for the United States presidency. But at one time was candidate for the United States presidency. But at one time was up in Thornhill close to where I grew up getting his
Starting point is 01:35:10 intestinal. Was it? This has got to be the worst segment in the history of FOTM cast, right? As bored as the baseball talk, we went off on Shopkins for God's sake. This is terrible. Yeah. I'm going to pull up the nose here. I can't even fake any interest in this. Tyler, this is terrible. Yeah, I'm gonna pull up the nose here though. I can't even fake Tyler this is bad, right? It's Ralph Nader guy fucking shoulder surgery
Starting point is 01:35:34 Is a hernia is a fucking hernia She was not anymore not after Now I'm thinking a weird out special friend. Let's talk about any who. Last but not least, Clark got his shoulder fixed and throwing him. It's a hernia. It fucking hurts. Joe who? Exactly. Anyway, last but not least, I actually want your, get you guys opinion on this. This was a pretty big news cycle. We learned the Phoenix is closed, right? The Phoenix concert theater. I went in and cause there wasn't a because there wasn't a robust list of all the artists who played there. So I went in and updated and I put mainly like shows I went to because I saw the mid-year play
Starting point is 01:36:13 bands. Yeah, like I saw pavement play there and the Constantines and everybody shows there. Yeah. Yeah. So I did like two columns because it used to be the diamond and who played there was the diamond. Right. And someone subsequently went in and they added that this was interesting, all these orchestral Eastern European like metal bands with names of Epica and Nightwish and Sabian. Is that Milan? Subsequent.
Starting point is 01:36:42 But the question for you guys, are you guys sad to see the Phoenix go? Cause I'll be honest, I'm not, I don't really care. It was never my favorite. It's kind of a shitty venue. I mean, I actually, I don't get sad like, because I'm not like 20 years old anymore. Like I spent a lot of time at the Phoenix.
Starting point is 01:36:58 I used to go to strange paradise when, yes, FOTM Andy Frost was hosting and I would, you know, rage against the machine and I would mosh and I loved it and fucking amazing actually hobo hump and slobo babes. That's right. Love that shit. Okay. That is true. The club night. I was there recently for a Martin streak appreciation night that Sherbert street. Yeah. And we had DJs there and I bumped into a bunch of CF and why FOTM is there and and calling rush home as well as I
Starting point is 01:37:28 recall. That's a good point. Yeah, so I have a lot of great memories of good times at the Phoenix, but you know like I'm not going to shed a tear. You know life goes on exactly. We got to fill the that's why we exist. We're going to have TML X events where we have these great great moments captured. moments captured. Uh, we'll just figure that we'll evolve. How about this? Well, we'll just close out. Just put you guys inside. What's the most memorable show like concert you saw? Yeah. Or a memorable concert. You saw I'll say I saw a wonderful Weezer concert and the Phoenix once.
Starting point is 01:37:58 When was that? I might've been there like night, like 94 or 95, 94, 95. Like we might've been in the same room. Okay. It was the opening was the opening band the guy who covered nwa the band it was like a very neat bunch of white guys covering boys in the hood that was their big radio hit really yeah it was a big fucking radio CFMY played it all the time yeah okay and the boys in the hood always are. I'm talking about guys from the studio. Not Bloodhound Gang. No, not nearly as big as Bloodhound Gang. Like literally this is now I kind of need to Google this real quickly if you don't mind. You can vamp for a moment here, but tell me I love that show. I have the big Weezer head, that blue album and Pinkerton, those two albums I fucking loved.
Starting point is 01:38:39 And boys in the hood. So Dynamite Hack. So Dynamite Hack so dynamite hack opened up okay. These are at that show. This would be like their third or fourth weiser album. Then I feel like that band. I sort of remember that band. What are you talking about? Well, I remember seeing them there for the pinkerton tour because Matt Sharp was still in the band when I saw them. Okay. I I don't know mid mid nineties. Okay, so you got Weezer and how about you tie for me? I think back. I think in 1999 that was a good show and then I
Starting point is 01:39:14 saw Jason Isbell there in like twenty thirteen okay dad rock yeah dad rock big dad rock guy and can actually speaking dad rock Canada Kevin. I saw a show there in November band called his Golden messenger, which is another great. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. My brother and I saw Sloan there a few years back. And I saw now defunct FOTM band mono whales. Oh, speak of Sloan playing opening night at the C and E.
Starting point is 01:39:38 That's right. I saw that. I can't want to go to that. Yeah. That'd be fun. With a Paul with FOTM Paul Langwell. Oh, wonderful. There you go. I believe that'd be fun with that. Paul, Paul, with FOTM Paul Lang, while wonderful. I believe a source on the inside told me that that Paul Lang, while opening a gig, almost went to lowest of the low. Really? Okay.
Starting point is 01:40:00 So just getting some insight into how things work over there. Okay. So we done with like a wet politicians have got their shoulder repaired and are we ever done with this? It's fucking wild These old white men in their guts you don't give a shit That in post Canadian Prime Minister Joe Clark you bastard Joe was he a prime minister? Yeah. Yes So much like Kim Campbell was a minister. Yeah, John Turner, right the law for midtown gorg breaking news. Andrew Ward camped out at the Phoenix to see the rolling stone there, but he missed out by 10 people. Oh, I feel like
Starting point is 01:40:49 they had one of those like Molson Canadian blind dates. You remember that promotion like big band in a small club? Yeah, I do remember that. I feel like rush or somebody like played there. Did you did we was it Q three when we Did you did we was it q3 when we found out John Gallagher told a big lie in that that was that was q3 right to take Chalmers. Okay, so we're in K. So we were recapping the Jeff Chalmers episode that well Jeff Chalmers was q3. Okay, then we won't talk about this. We'll talk about this later.
Starting point is 01:41:20 Okay, breaking the law laying down the law. This is where we fact check it. We got some fact checks and we kind of fuck this up because we've talked about some of this stuff already, but who cares? You know, it's gonna recap it. Yeah, exactly. So big shout out, of course, to the official fact checker of the TMU Robert Lawson. By the way, was there some smoke? Yes, okay. So Steve Cole, who is a great supporter, him and his wife, I've seems like a lovely fellow. Absolutely. What's the guy with the dog t-shirts. Yeah, yeah, yeah, just with the dog is like
Starting point is 01:41:48 a stu stu stone head or something. Oh, stone shaker, some like that. Yeah. Yeah. So Steve Cole, who I quite like matching dog t-shirts, his least favorite Toronto mic'd episode of all time is Robert Lawson fact checking randy backman like he despite. I think he's a big guess who guy, a big fan of randies and it really triggered him. So tml x six it's gonna be a forget me and langer between yeah and land like i said dance to lady and red right, but we're gonna get steve cole and robert lawson to duke it out over randy backman. Yeah, it was something else yeah. This fall, the monk
Starting point is 01:42:21 debates like steve cole and but also love to see that i would like literally love. Yeah, I can make that. We can make that. I don't think Robert Lawson suffers fools. So no, no, not Steve Cole. We'll have it organized. We're like a moderate. I'll be the moderator. You get this much time. Your turn to retort. It'll be very civil. This is the gift that keeps on. Okay, we're going to do that. Actually, we'll get Stu stone and we'll get those other two toast guys and we'll do this. So the Spider-Man meme, we should do that. You,
Starting point is 01:42:56 one thing I want to say is that I thoroughly enjoy it. Uh, you do a thing where you drop Robert's name into a conversation with somebody who has no idea who it is and I don't give a fuck that they don't know who he is. I did it today. I know Robert Lawson is going to jump out of the bushes and they smile. Yeah, they smile and nod. They don't say anything. They don't say, who's Robert Lawson?
Starting point is 01:43:12 They just let it go. At this point in the podcast, 1,500 episodes in, I'm talking to the real heads. The people that are actually, if you got an hour and a half into this FOTM cast, those references are for you. If you know you know. Yeah. Because how many people won't bother with an FOTM cast or won't get passed by minutes. Right. And that's what I like. Also, if someone ever said, sorry, who's Robert Lawson? Like that'd be 45 seconds
Starting point is 01:43:35 of like exposition need. Like this isn't a quick explanation of like, who is he? Why? Why did you say his name? Yeah. So I definitely am now doing stuff for the masses. Sure. Let's find out about this Gary Chow and guy who he was the official hairdresser of share. Okay, when sunny and share show was on TV, like let's talk about that guy, but I'm going to sprinkle in stuff for the real head for sure, for sure. So overall pretty good quarter for people telling the truth. I think people were pretty factual with you. There are just a few things that need corrections.
Starting point is 01:44:07 And I'm going to start with myself. I'm going to correct myself from the last FOTM cast. And I'm humiliated by this. I'm surprised nobody called me out on it. OK, let's hear it. So I said that in Q4 last year that you recorded 85 episodes, which seemed high to me. But I had a formula in Excel that I checked and I rechecked
Starting point is 01:44:22 and it came back every time, 85. And I'm like, OK, I guess. I went back afterwards. Yeah, that seems crazy. It's crazy Hi, it still felt wrong and I checked it again And what I realized is that there was a previous formula that was feeding into the other formula that was wrong It's bullshit man 67 episodes. That's why you're not in the Hall of Fame Well, there you go, but at least I'm owning up to it How many 67 is what you recorded in still a lot. Oh, I was only like 91 or two days and it's the second. It was the second busiest quarter of all time. Q2 2020. You recorded 69,
Starting point is 01:44:51 a very nice 69 episodes, which remains the chat. Yeah. So I, I regret the error. All right. Thanks for clarifying that. Of course. I thought it was more prolific than I am. Yeah. Um, second thing, which we've already covered, but I'm going to say it again. It came up. Cam said that Gloria Martin was interest sister. She is not Marcia Martin, who was of chum city is Andrea sister right, not Gloria. Okay, so I was you're in sort of close. That's probably was I don't find that I think that's, but I think I think it's
Starting point is 01:45:22 safe to say that Cam regrets the year I do. Yes, that's it. But I think, I think it's safe to say that cam regrets the year. I do. Yes. That's all I want to hear. Um, there was a fair bit of conversation around the Dawn pile episode, uh, that shadowy man on a shadowy planet played the kids in the hall theme live each episode. Don corrected you, uh, rightly so in his episode, uh, they were there playing live, but the theme was played from a recording. Okay. This did cause some consternation with FOTM Paul Myers, who called me out on Facebook. Oh, see this?
Starting point is 01:45:49 Oh my God, no, I did too. Yeah, that he never said such a thing in his book, which I haven't read, actually. I only saw the doc on Prime. Yeah, I read the book. It was excellent. Did you see the doc? I saw the doc, yeah. Did they imply in the doc that it was live each time?
Starting point is 01:46:01 I honestly don't remember. I don't remember. What would have you been doing the last six weeks? I've been focusing on putting this show together, man. That's my sound, man. Okay. So thank you, Don Pyle for correcting me because the impression I got from the dock on prime was that it was live each time. It blew my mind. Yeah, but they played it live for the audience, but they only used the can version on the television show.
Starting point is 01:46:25 So whether it's you or Paul Myers or the director of the doc, someone regrets the air. I'm glad that it was corrected in real time by Don Pyle. That's why he was there. Exactly. And Paul Myers, we're sorry. And he's a good, I think his next subject is going to be John Candy. Yeah, I'm excited.
Starting point is 01:46:43 He's gonna write a book about John Candy. Yeah. Very good. Who won a great cup as an owner. He's got a, you got a ring. Yeah, yeah, of course. Right before I stomped on that guy's head, that was a time. Um, one last important correction, which we've again covered, but it actually came up in your appearance on humble and Fred, which I did listen to. I actually know where you're going with this. I gave you, you did give me credit because I already got a message from leave a, oh you did. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. No, it was all her idea. Um, and she remembered she, she suggested it. I was just the blunt instrument that went
Starting point is 01:47:18 around collecting money. Uh, it was all her. I didn't know that. There were so many things I didn't know, I thought because just to give a little Background to cam and the listenership so my well my two youngest kids and Monica and I biked over to Tyler Campbell's backyard That's right, so he could make his pizza. Yeah, when his new wood-burning oven thing in the backyard This happened on a Friday night. Yeah, so we're all there and I realized oh shit. I forgot the Great Lakes beer That's right. So I get on my bike to go back to New Toronto, a whole different neighborhood camp. Okay. I'm in Mimico and I got to get my ass to New Toronto and I bike and I get the beer.
Starting point is 01:47:54 So I'm gone. Like, I don't know, 20 minutes or whatever the hell I'm gone. It turns out unbeknownst to me that during that absence, a conversation took place between this gentleman, Tyler Campbell, and my, Monica regarding the kayak. Yeah. So I actually connected dots myself at that. Oh, I bet you Tyler asked Monica like what's a gift I would love for my 50th and Monica because I had told Monica since I think for the last 15 years, I've been talking about the fact that I'm going to get a kayak when I turned 50. Yeah. So you won't see me again. I'll be on the lake all the time.
Starting point is 01:48:25 I've been dropping that hint for a long time. So it turns out no, leave a FAMCA thought a kayak would be a good idea. Because I did say it in an episode. You talked about it a while ago. Yeah. I'm sure it's come up a couple of times. Yeah. Yeah. We'll check the transcripts. And then you wanted to confirm that Monica was not getting me the cut. So I don't end up with two kayaks on my birthday. Which would have been a disaster. Okay. So leave a FAM phone that's why she's in the Hall of Fame you're not exactly okay so again I know you're right that mistake I made was not on a Toronto Mike I was telling humble and Fred on Thursday that's right Thursday no Wednesday
Starting point is 01:48:56 yesterday this is Thursday today I was telling humble and Fred about my kayak because humble and I did a bike ride and we're on the Humber Bay Bridge and there were kayakers and we looked over the kayakers and Humble said, Oh, I bet you they're miserable. That's only fun for five to eight minutes. And then I was thinking to my and I was thinking to myself because I didn't know I was getting a kayak, but I thought it was possible, but I didn't really think too much on it. I said I was thinking to myself, Oh shit, like I would love to spend two hours out there on a kayak. That's amazing. I love being out on the water in a kayak and he thinks it's only fun for five to
Starting point is 01:49:28 eight minutes. Yeah. So there you go. I was telling him I got a kayak. I will say that that Humboldt and Fred were more interested in it than I thought they would be because it folds up. Yeah, that's what they were interested in. That's what I'm interested in. How heavy is this thing? Let's put it this way. I could bike to Trillium park with this on my back and drop it in the water there to our dress. No. So I don't know what that way does it inflate. No, no inflation at all. Okay, no inflation at all. I know I can do a demo for you
Starting point is 01:49:53 later if you like. I can do it in five. I would like that. But so just record Oh sorry. I'm just looking at Jeremy Hopkins with some strong word. Yeah, it's spooking. What did he say? Lemon yellow sun. He just, he had some words about him. Oh, he said a bad word about him. A little commentary on your clients there. Legends, radio, Toronto radio, legends. Come on.
Starting point is 01:50:15 So just to tie that off, Toronto Mike, I know that you, Toronto Mike, regret the error. Yes, I do. That's what I was. But I wasn't an error. That's my catchphrase that I'm trying to take out. In like it inadvertent. I didn't know the road testing. That's why you're here. Is it? Is it landing? Okay, so to the listeners out there, you too can be like Robert Lawson, the five who are still with us. That's right. So if you notice
Starting point is 01:50:38 they got through the Joe Clark shoulder, that's a call shoulder, shoulder, fucking hospital, yeah, hospital world class. Yeah, it is. Well, yeah, obviously if all your mom didn't deliver Joe Clark, by any chance, you think Rand Paul's, yeah, Rand Paul's coming to thorn hill to get his hernia fixed. That's pretty, uh, yeah. Anyway, what I'm trying to say here, people is that anyone can be like Robert Lawson.
Starting point is 01:51:02 If you notice Toronto Mike or any guest, misstating a fact, exaggerating, lying, please reach out to me via Twitter. I'm at Tyler A. Campbell. And you could receive a signed photo of Robert Lawson as reward. Very good. Signed by Cam.
Starting point is 01:51:16 Yeah, I can't say who it will be signed by. By the way, could I, this is not, it was never on a podcast, but can I just fact check my mom? I shared this, but her, her agree. So just to set the scene, I'm in Thornhill last night. I'm with my daughter, my parents and my sister and her kids were having a lovely family dinner.
Starting point is 01:51:34 All the kids are off for school. And we, we start talking about the Mince family who went to Thornhill. Do you know Billy Mince? He did some acting. He was, he was on the first Degrassi. He was on a couple of episodes. What character? Andy would know him. Then Billy Mince of Andy's here. Do you remember?
Starting point is 01:51:49 What character? I forget. He's not the one that goes to bed early. She left. She just left. She had better things to do. So I know Billy Mince, he was also student council president, I believe at Thornley. Wow. But his brother Noah Mince is aFO. TM was in head and my mom just blurt out. Oh, he he did that huge condo development, a young
Starting point is 01:52:12 employer. And I'm like, no, mom, he was in head. He's he's a musician and master's music. He's a master. And she was like, oh, I don't know. And I think it's 1236 in the group chat.
Starting point is 01:52:25 He suggested she was probably mixed up with Sam is misery. Ms. Raheem is right. Yeah, which sounds like men. Yeah. Yeah. So yeah. So I get it. It's I get a mom. But come on. Well, thank you. You're not going to hear this. I want to hear never listen.
Starting point is 01:52:40 Never. I still think your day. We should have Robert Lawson. You know how we get Peter Gross to record these things? We should get Robert Lawson to record the fact check. So we hear it in his voice. We should. We should. That'd be fine. Voice memo sent in to him. So is that everything for the fact check?
Starting point is 01:52:53 Close up the fact check bag, Mike. OK, I'm excited for the final segment here. What's going on, Mike? What's going on Mike? What's going on FOTM? It's Stu Stone checking in for a Where in the World is Stu segment if you even want to call it that. I will say though, I'm happy to update you. I'm actually currently as I record this, I am in Stone Mountain, Georgia,
Starting point is 01:53:29 home of Jake the Snake Roberts. But I'm not actually at Jake the Snake Roberts' home. I'm at a Airbnb waiting for Toptanka to arrive to interview Toptanka, the great Toptanka, 90s WWE superstar. Things are going well, and I am looking forward to seeing you all again and hearing you all again when I listen back to this episode but yes sending love I'm still here still at it and I'm still a Hall of Famer can't take that away from me love you Mike Wow okay. Wow. Okay. Got a lovely text from
Starting point is 01:54:06 Stu on my 50th birthday. Uh, miss that guy. I think he was on in the first quarter. Is that possible? Maybe? Yeah, I think that's right. So I have seen him once in 2020 still doing the stair master. I'm doing for an update. Uh, I'll find out about his health, but, uh, you know, that man works hard. I want to shut out Stu stone because we were kind of a perfect storm there with the pandemic where Stu was grounded and he was here. And as you know, cam every week, he was able to join us for pandemic. We made the most of those times, those horrible times. Little did we know that, you know, getting Stu Stone in person most of those 76 weeks will never happen again. He's like the wind. He, and he
Starting point is 01:54:50 remember he hung out with Patrick Swayze. That is true. Do you remember that? And I will say I actually have a text message from Stu. I'm on another group thread with Stu and some of our high school friends. I actually have video of him talking to Tatanka. Oh, just a little clip from his from his chat with the great Native American, but he works hard and he does in a lot of travel and it's not so easy. You don't love all that money in the miles. You know, when you're in the business, he's in, but you know, when he's got the new movie to put out the is it a sequel to fake in a murderer? I'm trying to remember, but it's called
Starting point is 01:55:21 don't fuck with ghosts. Okay, that's like it's in the same cinematic universe. So you know, Tony Napa will be there, but don't Ron James dropped the name Tony Napa the other day and I'm like, just don't Ron James was great too. That's for next episode of FTM. But the don't fuck with ghosts when that's when it's time for the promo tour. I feel like Stu will magically appear again. There's a feeling I have. And I will say there was. Sorry. You can talk.
Starting point is 01:55:49 Oh, no, no, no. We're getting played out. It was coming into this channel because I and then it came in this channel. So I actually fucked up. We talked. Talk to me. No, this is more just like internal monologue, but there was something else in the news cycle recently with the potential closing of the review cinema where the debut or the premiere of Jack of all trades took place.
Starting point is 01:56:09 Where 1236 went for his walk in the snow. That's where 12, yes. And then later I found out Devin Saw-Wah was there, but I never like bumped into him, but he was there. I hate to say, I don't know what you guys feel. This is some real talk. Ward Martin was there too, but... I just feel like everything fun in Toronto is like literally going away. Like it just seems like one,
Starting point is 01:56:27 now I see like word on the street festival. If you're into like books and shit, there's like, they were doing like a fundraising. It just seems like everything, not even we grew up with, everything from like recent history is just quickly going away. All right, Abe Simpson, okay.
Starting point is 01:56:40 Anyway, I'm just saying. I'm just putting it, Jeremy Hopkins, you know, he knows more than anyone else. Let's just plan more TMLX events. Yeah. And be more careful when you're behind the wheel coming to these things. I know. Well, that's what I'm TTCing now.
Starting point is 01:56:53 It's a bit dire, but, you know, thankfully we have this and we have a TMU. We have Toronto Mike. We'll make our own fun. Fuck it, we'll make our own fun. Exactly. That's the way I look at it. I'll do it myself. Yeah, Mike, part of the work he's doing and what Jeremy's doing in retro Ontario and Adam Bunch and you know it's keeping all this stuff live too so much credit
Starting point is 01:57:12 to all you all you guys and much credit to you two gentlemen for dropping by every quarter for FOTM cast. Thank you Cam Gordon. Of course. It's good to be back. And thank you Tyler Campbell who put in so much work and it paid off. I think I fucked up a couple of elements. I don't know. But you did a great job. And I love that recap of the second quarter of 2024. Thank you, VP of sales. My pleasure. What a quarter it was.
Starting point is 01:57:36 Now close some deals. We'll have a new segment. The deals closed in the quarter. That's coming soon. And that brings us to the end of our 1520th show. You can follow me on Twitter, Blue Sky. I'm at Toronto Mike. I'm all over the place actually, but go to torontomike.com for all your
Starting point is 01:57:55 Toronto Mike needs cam. Where would you send somebody if they gave a shit about cam Gordon? Uh, well, nobody would at this point, but I, you can still follow me on the X app at at underscore no cam Gordon cam underscore. Yeah. Whatever it is. Actually, sure. And Tyler, where would you direct people?
Starting point is 01:58:13 Sure. Find me on Twitter at Tyler A. Campbell. Send me those fact checks. Let's get you the listener in autograph photo of Robert Lawson. Much love to all who made this possible. I don't know if we did the proper mentions actually. Great Lakes Brewery, we enjoyed their fresh craft beer. Palma Pasta, RecycleMyElectronics.ca, you know that's where you go if you got to get rid of some old techs and old electronics and old cables. The Toronto Maple Leafs baseball team, we talked, I recorded twice
Starting point is 01:58:41 there last quarter. I'll be back August 4th. Throwing out the first pitch drop by say hi and of course Ridley funeral home. See you all soon. When the fuck am I going to see you? Oh tomorrow this guy so mid year. We couldn't talk about him today, but he's coming to play susa palooza. Oh yeah, because of this guy Ed Susa who's booking all these eighties bands like Honeymoon Swede and Spoons and stuff and Flat Flock of Seagulls. And he's going to kick out the jams and give us a story tomorrow. Can't wait.
Starting point is 01:59:15 Listen, I know nothing about this guy. I'm so curious what his deal is. You're going to learn everything about this guy. 2 PM tomorrow. It's on the live stream. You can watch it live at torontomike.com or just subscribe to the podcast. Peace and love. See you all then.
