Welcome to TMI for this June 21st.
Okay, it's about 11.41 a.m. on a Friday.
A beautiful Friday, by the way.
I just went outside. It's gorgeous.
But I had an 11 o'clock episode scheduled.
So there was an episode scheduled for 11 a.m. today.
An episode of Toronto Mic'd.
I was locked and loaded.
It's a singer-songwriter.
And I had her songs loaded up and I had my and loaded. I have, it's a young singer, it's a singer-songwriter. And I had her songs loaded up
and I had my homework done.
I have the frozen veggie lasagna.
I got the beer delivered this morning
because I was out of beer.
So Great Lakes made a special delivery.
All set up.
All ready to go.
And she never showed up.
Anyways, I can't get a hold of her. It goes straight to go. And she never showed up. Anyways, I can't get a hold of her.
It goes straight to machine.
So I'm not recording episode 480 today.
That's okay.
Go back and listen to episode 479
with Lowest of the Low
because they were fantastic.
Hebsey and I were talking this morning
about how great they were.
So why am I recording
if I don't have a guest?
Well, this is an episode of TMI, which I might put on the Toronto Mic feed. It's not an
official numbered episode, but I had some housekeeping to do. So I want to do some updates
on Bob McCowan, and I wanted to do some updates on TMLX3, because that's happening when? Sorry,
TMLX3 because that's happening when? Sorry, Thursday. Oh my gosh, I should know. Thursday,
June 27th, big event. I've got some cool announcements to make about that. So let's start with a quick Bob McCowan update. Let's listen to a clip from not too long ago featuring
former Toronto Mic'd guest Elliot, talking to Bob McCowan.
Well, we already had a big announcement here this morning
that you are staying on here.
More vacation time?
That's what they say.
I don't know that I've agreed to that.
How long have you known this?
I mean, you waited almost till the last minute
to either accept the offer or to make the announcement.
No, no.
I never accept an offer.
They accept an offer.
That's what I meant.
They accepted the offer about 10 days ago.
There you go.
That's what I meant when I said you have retained their services for another few years.
Yeah.
And you're sitting in my seat too, by the way.
I knew it.
And I asked them.
I said, do you think I should get up and give Bob this seat?
And I thought, no.
It's only mine between 4 and 7.
You can have it the rest of the time.
All right.
Don't spit on the microphone, though.
I'll try not to.
You can go now.
All right, I'm done.
Thank you very much.
Boys, enjoy your wine.
Don't drink it until after lunch.
There you go.
Bob McCallum, and I'm sure.
A couple of drunk morning guys, that's all we need.
Well, no, they're not here this morning, but they'll be back on Monday.
Oh, yeah. That's all we need. Well, no, they're not here this morning, but they'll be back on Monday. Oh, yeah.
Those two maroons.
In retrospect, Elliot Price was one of the first
well, maybe Darren Millard, right?
So Millard goes.
Price goes.
Damien Cox goes.
Like some high-profile, highly-paid
talent have been walked out the Rogers
door lately.
And now McCowan's going. So Bob McCowan
is his last show today. And I used to have a commute for years and years and years. I was
commuting to work there back and on my way home, Bob McCowan's primetime sports was
a definite spot. Like nothing was better. I've talked about this so many times on Toronto Mic'd,
especially when I had guests like, like Stephen Brunt on, for example.
And for my money, you give me McCowan and Brunt
co-hosting Primetime Sports with a guest
like the late, great Burt Randolph Sugar, for example.
And I thought it was great.
Great audio, great broadcasting, fantastic content.
So when McCowan gave a shit, there was no one better.
So anyone who follows sports in the GTA,
maybe across the country,
I always heard that McCowan's heard outside of Toronto.
I don't know the specifics there,
but it's on some kind of a network.
But especially in Toronto,
if you could pull in 1430 and then 590, CJCL, the fan, if you could
pull that down, you've heard Bob McCowan. Most people listen to Bob McCowan regularly. So this
is a big deal. Now, a couple of times, I've asked Bob McCowan to come on Toronto Mic'd. He's been on my list of people I really want for a long time.
Bob has always replied
when I was able to get a message to him.
And it would be sort of like a,
thanks for asking, but I just did something with Rogers.
I know Christina Rutherford, who has been on this show,
Christina did a nice piece for, I want to say for Sportsnet
magazine. I can't remember if it's for the website or the magazine, but that was sort of like Bob
said, oh, I just did that. So I don't need to do Toronto Mic'd as if they're the same thing. But
anyway, so let me look into the camera here and address Bob McCowan, who maybe he's watching right now
or he's going to watch on demand later.
Or maybe somebody will tell him that I'm addressing him.
So Bob McCowan,
if you're listening and or watching,
come on Toronto Mic.
Just go to torontomic.com
and click contact Mike in the top right corner
and send me an email or DM me on Twitter.
I'm pretty easy to get a hold of or ask your buddies how to get a hold of me.
Come on Toronto Mic'd.
Real talk.
We'll just talk.
You'll love the vibe here.
We roll our own here.
This is as independent as it gets.
And let's talk about, you know,
what went down in your career. Let's just do a long-form discussion. So, Bob, come on
Toronto Mic'd. I think it would be a well-listened-to sports audio presentation.
So come on Toronto Mike, Bob.
You're welcome to come on.
Now, he'll be missed.
You don't just fill Bob McCowan's shoes like that.
I don't know what the plans are.
I didn't break this.
Another thing, too, is I see Jonah from Toronto Sports Media
was the first one to break this.
McCowan's leaving.
I didn't break the story.
But I confirmed Jonah was correct,
of course, but Jonah was correct. He's got really good inside Rodgers executive sources. So good on
Jonah. I broke the Biggs and Barr leaving hits 97-7. I also broke the Damien Cox leaving Sportsnet
story, but the Bob McCowan is the big big one and uh yeah surprising that it's happening kind
of suddenly like this but we've seen this movie before Gord Martineau think about Gord Martineau
decades on city tv main anchor and all of a sudden coming up next modern family and he's
press release says he's uh retiring and whatever. Kevin Frankish is
another example. Like he was there a long time. Breakfast Television, popular face of Breakfast
Television. And then all of a sudden, like, I don't know what I can't remember now on a Wednesday,
it's like, okay, Friday's my last show. Okay. We've seen this movie before. There's other examples.
Some examples you probably think were actually the talent
deciding to step away, but were not.
So that's what's happening with Bob.
They informed him a couple of weeks ago
that they were going to buy out the remainder of his contract
and that Friday would be his last day.
And here we are.
So if you're around a radio or you can stream it, listen to Bob. And I think he ends at 7 p.m. and we'll say goodbye to Bob. And hopefully one day down the road, Bob McCowan sits in that seat right there. And I give him some beer and lasagna and stickers and we chat about his career.
his career. Now, what other housekeeping items did I want to address today? Oh, yes. TMLX3.
This is key. Okay. It's happening Thursday, which is coming like so fast. This is Friday now,
so less than a week away. So here's some things going on. Okay, you already know if you're a listener of this podcast or a former guest of this podcast, Great Lakes Brewery is buying you your first beer. So this was going to be my guest today's beer, but now it's maybe this will go to Mark Weisblot. He's
back next week to do the June roundup. So here's a sunny sunny... Ah, Sunnyside is a good...
This is a good session IPA
because it's only,
what is it, 3.5%?
I'm going blind here,
but I know it's got,
you know, you can...
This is the kind of drink
you can have a few
without feeling wobbly
or whatnot.
2.0...
I think a little over 3%.
Anyway,
Great Lakes will buy you your first beer on Thursday.
That's awesome already.
The Royal Pains are set to open up and play some great 90s jams.
I mean, you heard the best of Toronto Mike volume one.
That was Al Grego who put that together.
He's the lead singer of the Royal Pains.
That's going to be fantastic.
The last episode of Toronto Mike was with lowest of the low. Sorry, there's five members, two of them, but one of them is Ron Hawkins. So
Ron Hawkins and Lawrence Nichols from Lowest of the Low were here to talk about their new album
Agitpop and to promote their appearance. They're going to perform at Great Lakes Brewery.
Do you hear me?
Lowest to the low are going to perform
on the patio of Great Lakes Brewery on Thursday
for listeners of Toronto Mic'd
and former guests of Toronto Mic'd.
So hopefully the weather cooperates.
If not, there's a big room inside we can all go to.
No worries there.
But yeah, amazing amazing so that's
happening thursday here's the exciting new news fast time watch and jewelry repair
milan at fast time is going to bring a watch a quality watch to this event, and somebody in attendance is going to win this watch,
I think he's going to ask like a Toronto Mike trivia question.
And if you get it, if you answer it correctly first,
he's going to give you that watch.
Like that's happening.
I talked to Anthony at Palma Pasta today.
And Anthony is going to do a similar giveaway to a lucky attendee. He's going to give
a gift card to Palma Pasta. They're in, as you know, Mississauga Oakville. So that's amazing too.
So you can win with the coin. I know it's at least 50 bucks. So a gift card from Palma Pasta
is up for grabs. There's a watch from Fast Time. You've got the Great,
you've got the Lowest of the Low and Royal Pains playing.
You got your beer on the house.
You have stickers, right?
So this is awesome too.
I just talked to StickerU.
Can you see that?
I don't know.
There are going to be Toronto Mike stickers
and temporary tattoos for all attendees from stickeru.com.
But also, they're making up some Lowest of the Low stickers too. So to promote the brand new
awesome album from Lowest of the Low, Agitpop, there's going to be Agitpop stickers as well. So
that's coming your way. What else is going on? Hebsey, who he's not a sponsor, but
Hebsey's a friend of the show. He's going to be there with his books. So if you want to buy a
copy of his book about George Ordon, which we talked about in a recent episode of Toronto Mic'd,
Hebsey will sell you a book, sign it, custom signature for you, and he'll take a selfie with you like that's all going down too so
that's going to be amazing what else uh there's some more tricks up our sleeves but i mean this
event's going to be it's going to kick ass and i want as many listeners and guests as possible to
show up it's also my birthday blah blah blah gonna be a good time so tmlx3 is happening this thursday from 6 to 9 p.m
on the patio of great lakes brewery they are near the costco so they're like royal york and
queensway area they're on queen elizabeth boulevard it's on this 30 queen elizabeth boulevard 30 Queen Elizabeth Boulevard. You can get there by TTC. Like the bus will take you to Royal York and whatever.
I think near Queen Elizabeth Boulevard there.
And then a short walk on Queen Elizabeth Boulevard.
So it's TTC friendly.
I've heard from some listeners coming in from the go
because the Mimico station is nearby too.
And I'm biking in.
There's room to park.
There's on the street you room to park. There's,
because on the street you can do parking,
but yeah,
if you do,
of course,
if you drive,
don't drink in excess.
Everybody be safe
and responsible.
It's going to be
a great time.
Can't wait to see you
all there.
I'm going to make
some announcements there,
some good announcements
for the show.
For example,
just today,
Palma Pasta renewed for three more months of sponsorship.
This is really, like when you're an independent podcast,
you know, you got to handle,
there's a million moving parts,
including guests who sometimes don't show up.
Although that really never happens.
Although it happened today.
Although while I'm talking, I got a text.
Let me see if it's my guest.
Hold on.
Maybe I'll be doing one anyways.
No, it is actually Milan from Fast Time telling me
he's going to send me a picture of the watch
and details of exactly what watch is going to be given away on Thursday.
So he's going to send that to me on Monday.
So I'll tweet that at Toronto Mike on Twitter.
I'll tweet the watch.
It'll be nice to know what's coming our way.
So where was I?
Okay, so anything I'm missing?
Like I didn't take notes on this.
This is all off the cuff.
But oh yeah, so the sponsorship, right?
So a lot of moving parts.
You got guests, the book, you know, you got to
hound Bob McCowan and harass him a little bit, get him on the show. You got lots,
you know, you got to record and do your whole thing there. Now there's Periscope,
there's in the blog and there's, you know, you got to invoice partners and you got to
get renewals and stuff. And so the good news today is three things happened today.
and you got to get renewals and stuff.
And so the good news today is three things happened today.
Palma Pasta renewed for three months.
Amazing.
Great Lakes Brewery today, this all happened today.
They renewed for six months.
So that takes us to the end of 2019.
And this is all good news for guests because they get the lasagna.
Like every guest gets, this is an empty box,
but every guest gets a large frozen lasagna from Palma Pasta.
Like that's incredible.
But every guest gets a six pack of GLB as well.
And that will continue because Palma is going to do it for three more months,
at least, hopefully longer.
And Great Lakes is doing it for six more months, hopefully longer.
And I just got off the phone with StickerU, finding out like when can I
pick up the stickers to make the loot bags for everybody. And they want to renew for three more
months as well. And that means three sponsors locked up for at least the next three months.
That's fantastic. I want to thank the other partners.
Capadia Accountants.
Small business owner here, TMDS.
The decal is behind me.
That's my accountant, Rupesh Capadia.
He's the rock star accountant who sees beyond the numbers.
My father's accountancy firm.
Love that guy.
So I want to thank him for his partnership. not my father's accountancy firm. Love that guy. So he is,
he's,
he's,
I want to thank him for his partnership.
Of course,
Brian at property,
the six.com.
He's going to be there Thursday.
If you want to talk about anything,
real estate related,
he's there,
you know,
doesn't gallery,
a mall condo and more.
That's Brian.
Or if you want to ask him about the Raptors parade, he's also game to talk
about that as well. So Brian's there. And let's see here. I think that covers it. Thank you,
everybody, for listening to this little mini episode. It's a fantastic day. I'm at the Wolfpack
match tomorrow. Let me know if you're going to be there. I'll bring some stickers.
And,
Elvis is going to join me at that Wolfpack match, by the way.
Hebsey was supposed to join us
just today. He dropped out because he's going to go to
his golfing at Crosswinds.
That's his sponsor, so I
totally understand that.
Thank you for listening.
Do I play us out on this thing?
Maybe a little lowest of the low since that's the big question. Will lowest of the low play
Rosie and Gray? Oh, I'm bringing her down a bit. I just have one more thing to announce.
Just this is all I was on the phone a lot today, even though I recorded it. It's been busy times.
a lot today. Even though I recorded, it's been busy times.
I'll know by the end of today
if Molly Johnson
is coming on Toronto Mic'd for
part two, airing
this August. I'm going to
know that today.
Will she come back?
She is being presented
with a formal invitation to return
to Toronto Mic'd.
I can't wait.
I so badly want this to happen.
I want a redo.
I want Molly Johnson sitting here
and another shot at it.
I just want to do it up.
And I don't want it to be on a day
when an idol of hers has passed away.
You know what I mean?
And I don't want to screw up any times or anything.
I just want us to do it up right.
Discuss a little of what happened and then kind of do it up right.
And I want it live on Periscope.
Cause who the hell knows what's going to happen.
So I'll let you all know if Molly Johnson part two is coming to Toronto
Mike this August.
Peace and love, everybody. Peace and love, everybody. Under my skin for more than eight years.
