I'm Mike from TorontoMike.com and joining me this week for our 35th Pandemic Friday, back in the backyard is Stu Stone. Yes, hello.
Starting point is 00:02:21 And Cam Gordon. Hey Mike. And before I forget, I tweeted this. This has got to be your biggest week in terms of people in the backyard with most combined Twitter followers. And it's all Bob McKenzie, right? Primarily, but I mean, Frankish has upwards of 2,000 or 200,000. I've always been thoroughly impressed that 1.6 million people are following Bob McKenzie.
Starting point is 00:02:49 Why is that? I mean, he is the premier guru, the premier pundit of hockey. I know, but if you do a little math, okay, I agree. Hockey's not just Canadian, so you're suggesting people outside of Canada follow Bob McKenzie.
Starting point is 00:03:02 Yeah, I think he just sort of owned that trade deadline lane. You know who else has over a hundred, or sorry, over a million Twitter followers in the hockey sphere? Darren Dreger. Darren Dreger, correct. Yeah, another FOTM. So, yeah, it was a big week.
Starting point is 00:03:16 Is he quiet or is it just the headphones over my hat? He sounds like he does a Zoom all over again. I don't know. How's this? Much better. I mean, geez. He's just a softer spoken guy than we are, Stu. But it's okay. Sleepy camp. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:30 Oh, that's last time we recorded. You know, a lot of excitement happened. One of the things that happened is that we were thinking they'd call it for Joe Biden. And we kind of. Still hasn't happened. I mean, it has happened. Who hasn't called? I mean, it's over. Well, the fine folks over at Newsmax haven't happened. I mean, it has happened. Who hasn't called? I mean, it's over.
Starting point is 00:03:45 Well, the fine folks over at Newsmax haven't called it. Yeah, they're still... OANN have not called it. I don't know these places. I heard there's some big announcements coming. I've seen that announced, but I don't know.
Starting point is 00:03:56 Three more, I mean, three more states are still... Yeah, I heard Alaska went to Trump yesterday, so that's good news. There's a hand recount coming in Georgia. But for all intents and purposes, this is over. And regardless of what the current president says.
Starting point is 00:04:12 Oh, is this, you know, Mike says it and here it is? No, this is New York Times says it, Associated Press says it, CNN says it, Fox News says it. Landstream media. We're going to win this thing. After they do this recount, we got this one.
Starting point is 00:04:28 Has not that kind of rabbi podcast announced it on the DL podcast? They've never changed a leader through a recount. That's yet to happen ever in history. Until now. Why are you jinxing it? Jeez. Pennsylvania is- That's like Buck Martinez is always like,
Starting point is 00:04:42 well, now would be a good time to strike him out. It's like a three-run home run. Get out of here, ball. That's a good Buck. Thank you. I'm actually, I'm a professional entertainer. I do impressions. Come on.
Starting point is 00:04:55 Yeah, well, this is a tough one right here. Stu, we'll start with you. I think we owe Alex Trebek a moment off the top of the 35th Pandemic Friday. He was just so solid, always there. I spent many hours watching Jeopardy! We owe Alex Trebek a moment off the top of the 35th Pandemic Friday. He was just so solid, always there. I spent many hours watching Jeopardy, and he just seemed like a good guy and a great Canadian, and we lost him to cancer this past week.
Starting point is 00:05:15 Battled hard, though. He fought all the way to the very end. He was hosting shows up until the very end. So God bless him. Alex Trebek, of course, the host of Jeopardy, the Jeopardy program, which we all grew up watching. Generations have grown up watching. Generations have shouted answers at the television and felt just a little bit smarter about themselves
Starting point is 00:05:40 if they got it right. There's a whole psychology to that show and that's what it is. When you play in psychology to that show, and that's what it is. When you play in your living room, do you do it in the form of a question or you just answer the question? No, you just shout out the answer. But I will say that Mr. Trebek always handled himself with this sort of calmness and classiness that he carried himself with. And he had all the questions, and of course we had all the answers in the form of a question.
Starting point is 00:06:06 The great Alex Trebek, Canadian, great mustache. Yeah, although he hasn't had it in a while. Not too many scandals that I can think of. I remember there was some, like, prank call thing that went down where he was part of it. Well, okay, I saw the outtakes. He dropped the odd F-bomb, but that made him even more relatable.
Starting point is 00:06:28 He's human. I thought it was great. Listen, he's a legend. It's like Bob Barker, Pat Sajak. Those guys are great, but Alex Trebek, come on. For guys our age, he's the only host we've ever known for Jeopardy. I don't remember the previous host.
Starting point is 00:06:43 Of course. No, not Don Pardo. In fact, no. Oh, was it? No. Not Don Pardo. In fact, Bob mentioned, yeah, he was the announcer. Bob mentioned him earlier today. This guy's name will come to me in a moment. I might have to Google it. But in the I Lost on Jeopardy, that's actually the old
Starting point is 00:06:59 pre-Trebek in the video. Great video, by the way. Sorry, this is the Weird Al version? Right. So the Weird Al version of I Lost on Jeopardy, it's a pre-Trebek in the video. Great video, by the way. Sorry, this is the Weird Al version? Right, so the Weird Al version of I Lost on Jeopardy, it's pre-Trebek, and I think Trebek takes over in 84, but I sure wasn't watching any. I mean, did Trebek ever sell reverse mortgage in commercials or anything like that?
Starting point is 00:07:16 Did he do? I feel like he did some life insurance something. I think you're right. I'm Alex Trebek. Well, Tom Selleck does that. No, but I'm saying trebek i think he was the og of that like he was a very just trustworthy guy you kind of type of guy you could buy premium life insurance off of uh but yeah listen of course the legend he will be missing art fleming there'll
Starting point is 00:07:36 never be another one art fleming of course that was the other host that was the host before i feel silly not not of uh before our time before i actually went to see a live taping of Jeopardy when I was about 10. Wow. I can't believe it. Is this in Burbank? Yeah, Burbank. And, you know, typical TV show,
Starting point is 00:07:52 they film four episodes back to back, which kind of blew my mind, the fact that these weren't actually live to air when we'd watch it. Are you sure it's not five? It was four or five, yeah. Because Mike Stafford says when he went on Jeopardy, he had to bring five changes of clothes.
Starting point is 00:08:06 Just in case he won, you have to change your clothes so it doesn't look like it's all filmed on the same day. Yeah, it was definitely, I mean, my first time in a TV studio. Off the top of my head, I think the only other shows that I've watched live from the audience would be John O'Vision and the Mike Bullard show. Wow. Stu, have you seen a lot of shows?
Starting point is 00:08:23 Because I've only seen Conan O'Brien. I've been to lots of shows, I've only seen Conan O'Brien. I don't think, I think the only show. I've been to lots of shows, but I just, staying with Alex for a second, and not like Cam's studio audience tales. Or shit, like anecdote. But Alex Trebek, great cameo in the film White Man Can't Jump. Foods with the letter Q and she goes on Jeopardy and runs the board.
Starting point is 00:08:47 I only remember the Cheers cameo. White Man Can't Jump, great movie. And of course the Simpsons one I played at the time. Woody Harrelson's girlfriend, she goes on Jeopardy. Rosie Perez? Yeah, she runs the board. Foods with the letter Q. And then also, just Alex Trebek, man.
Starting point is 00:09:05 Come on. I know. And today's theme, it's the sequel to last week's theme, which was TV themed. We could have kicked out that jingle there. That's that Jeopardy theme song. Yeah, definitely crossed my mind. I mean, Stu didn't mention like he was at a WrestleMania. Yeah, he sure was.
Starting point is 00:09:20 Like WrestleMania 9 or something. He was at one of the manias. That's for sure. Yeah. He was running around. I kind of blocked that out of my mind. Speaking of blocked. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:28 Okay. Speaking of blocked. Pick it up, Stu. There is an FOTM by the name of James. Do you know who I'm talking about? James Edgar. Well, I call him Jimmy. Okay.
Starting point is 00:09:38 Jimmy Edgar. Jimmy E. Rides a bandit, 1250. Right. He loves Hot Wheels. Yes. You know. We've shouted him out on a previous Pandemic Friday.
Starting point is 00:09:48 He was once an extra in Police Academy and Police Academy 3. Which were filmed, like, down the street. Yeah. You know, a great guy by all accounts. It's funny. I'm lucky it's Stu Screen. His account doesn't look familiar at all. Like, have I seen this?
Starting point is 00:10:02 And I work for the company. Now, here's the interesting stat about this gentleman, who is a friend of Toronto Mike, FOTM, a listener of the show. Big time. Yeah. Big news. Dateline, Toronto Mike. Chris Hansen.
Starting point is 00:10:18 James Edgar, at Red Bandit 1-4. There were 13 other Red Bandits. Right. Right. I believe it. I believe it. RedBandit14 blocked Cam Gordon on Twitter. Cam Gordon. Cam underscore Gordon.
Starting point is 00:10:32 Cam underscore Gordon has been blocked by an FOTM, and I think it's because of his horrible appearance. Like, you know, Cam just shits the bed week after week. Well, you said stuff like the opening cords of perfect strangers are wrung out and then all of a sudden you got a little prompt. Cam was blocked by an FOTM. That's, you know,
Starting point is 00:10:57 that's big. I want Cam's reaction. How do you feel, Cam? Like, for the record, I want, in defense of James, he claims it was an accident I mean those things don't can you accidentally block someone is it easy is it difficult definitely not
Starting point is 00:11:12 I mean anything's possible but you can block me that's fine other people block me is there a long list of people is there a way to see who blocks you well if you go to someone's account it's way to see who blocks you? If you go to someone's account... It's easier to just not follow you.
Starting point is 00:11:30 Because it's not like you're... Yeah, he blocked Kim. That's not a one-button action. Stop me when I'm lying. You have to go through a click, and then a click, and then a scroll, and then a click. It's more than just an accidental click. I'm siding james because james it's not quite a 2fa thing but you
Starting point is 00:11:48 know it's it's involved james is one of the few people who's been to all six tmlx events i feel like i've said hi to james well not on twitter he's a sweetheart and if you look at his twitter account right now uh not that cam's ever seen it but but at the top, there's literally like, he has the Toronto Mike sticker from stickeru.com. Right. And you know what he doesn't have? Cam underscore Gordon on his friends list. Also false.
Starting point is 00:12:12 Okay, wait, which camera? What's the hard cam? This one? Yeah, give him the goods. I want to say a couple of things to James. James, you and me, buddy, no hard feelings. Maybe this Saturday, meet Dan Palm and Pasta out in the parking lot. You know, we'll share a cannoli and we'll talk this over. It's no big
Starting point is 00:12:27 deal. Leave the gun. Take the cannoli. Have you seen that movie? He doesn't know what movies are. Yes, that is like Goodfellas or something. Close. It's Godfather. Godfather. Okay. It's close. Start with G. Different director, different decade, but close enough.
Starting point is 00:12:44 I hope Cam has seen that one. Speaking of Cam's... Anyway, Water Under the Bridge. Okay, yeah. I don't want any FOTMs fighting. I love you all. And I love you, Cam. And I love you, James Edgar.
Starting point is 00:12:54 So keep the peace. We're kicking out more TV theme songs. This was very popular last week. Cam Brio is very active on Twitter right now. He's asking for some songs. I'm just going to shout him out and say he wants the 60s Batman theme. Yeah, that's a great one. Like, na-na-na-na-na-na.
Starting point is 00:13:09 Yeah, that should be there. Well, we're in our 40s. That's a great song. Great song. Shout out to Adam West. That is a classic television theme. It was the Joker, didn't we? Yeah, Cesar Romero.
Starting point is 00:13:21 Cesar Romero. Was he the Penguin or the Joker? Cesar Romero is the Joker. We did this before. It's like a rerun. He also wants the Sopranos theme. He says it's not by Leonard Cohen. No, that's the Leonard Cohen version that he wants.
Starting point is 00:13:32 Lenny. And Levi Fumka says she can now see us on Periscope. That's important. And James Patterson says, is it pandemic Thursday already? Yes. So it all crept up on the other James there. Good joke. So I want to say
Starting point is 00:13:49 happy 75th birthday to Neil Young. Wow. I was actually listening to some Neil Young today. Which song do you remember? Horse with no name. Needle in the Damaged Gun, yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:08 That's a great jam. What's your favorite Neil Young song, Mike? Oh, good question. Maybe Cinnamon Girl. Maybe Cowgirl on the Sand. But they're both kind of these trippy, long... That's the classic. I mentioned to Bob McKenzie earlier today,
Starting point is 00:14:24 I said I closed with Long May You Run. That's a good one, too. That's also a. I'm a lot like you. I mentioned to Bob McKenzie earlier today, I said I closed with Long May You Run. That's a good one too. That's also a great Neil Young song. He's great. Yeah, and back in the day when you guys had to go to my basement, you'd pass Neil Young in the hallway. Literally, he was just there hanging out. Any Paul Young fans though?
Starting point is 00:14:40 Every time you go. You know what? Paul Young, if I may. Do you guys remember the song Toast? Yes. Is that by Paul Young? Yeah. I think Paul Young is in, what's that band called? Street Band? No. Yeah, that was sort of like a CFNY Dr. Demento
Starting point is 00:14:55 class. I used to hear it on, they play it on CFNY. That's Paul E. Young? Yeah. Already the fun facts are coming fast and furious. It's a bit like Fish Heads. Fish Heads, Fish Heads. Yeah, and in that video, it's Bill Paxton, I want to say. That's right.
Starting point is 00:15:11 Billy. So if you're looking for all the fun facts. He's no longer with us, right? He's gone, yeah. I thought that's Pullman. Pullman's still with us. Thank God. Pullman's the one who looks like Gerstein.
Starting point is 00:15:19 Thank God. So I remember Pullman looks like Gerstein. Good. That's true. And Paxton is gone, sadly. Okay. So I also want to shout out. Trebek also gone.
Starting point is 00:15:28 Yeah, sadly. At least he made it to 80. Yeah. Anyways, that's tragic. I love a good run. Toronto Joey, his name is. He sent me a note and said on this, and he said specifically on Pandemic Friday,
Starting point is 00:15:39 will you say out loud on the microphone that Toronto Joey says, save weather radio. Apparently there's this like, maybe it comes from the, either from the country or CBC. I can't quite figure it out, but it's a terrestrial radio transmission of weather across the country. And there's some talk of going on the internet and removing this.
Starting point is 00:16:00 I don't know. Toronto Joey's not having anything. Toronto Mike's going to be the one. By the way, speaking of weather, I listened to part of your Dana Levinson episode. You kind of turned heel on her, saying she's not a weather person. Yeah, well, she's not a weather person.
Starting point is 00:16:16 Yeah, but... Well, either is Joey. I mean, what? I'm confused. Don't you screen these letters before you read them? Well, last week I was duped into playing a song for somebody. So this time I just had to say save a weather video. Were you duped?
Starting point is 00:16:30 Did they even thank you? I never heard a thing. Yeah, see, that's why you can't do people favors, Mike. But it's not like they get compensation for that. Yeah, they do. Maybe we sold some iTunes. That's a paywall. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:39 You want to get your song played? That's a paywall. Pennies on the dollar. Stu wants some paywalls. I want to let people know who are listening and not watching on Periscope that Stu has a wonderful Blue Jays blanket. Yes. Where'd you get that?
Starting point is 00:16:51 Like, when did you get that? My mom got it for me. She's always thinking of- Shout out to Trudy. Yes. She's always thinking of my warmth and wants to make sure that I'm warm. So I think she'd be quite happy to know that the blanket's being used. And is it effective?
Starting point is 00:17:06 You're feeling okay there? My feet are very cold. You should wear boots next time. I'm going to wear boots next time. This is Toronto. It's November. And Cam, how the heck are you doing? Just want to make sure you're holding up okay
Starting point is 00:17:17 35 weeks into this pandemic nonsense. Yeah, now that James unblocked me, I'm all good. Did he unblock you? That was fast. Yeah, he unblocked.ed me, I'm all good. Did he unblock you? That was fast. Yeah, he unblocked me. Wow. That was anti-climactic. Yes.
Starting point is 00:17:30 I made peace amongst these dueling tweeters. Yeah, I blocked them. Two Twitter VIPs. Unverified accounts. So I said happy birthday to Neil Young. I talked about Weather Radio. Stu, you're done. You're quarantined.
Starting point is 00:17:45 Yes. And that's why you're in my backyard. That's right. So you got a great blanket there. I got a good blankie. Cam looks bundled up. I think we should get into this because there's more mind blows than we've ever had in a previous pandemic Friday.
Starting point is 00:17:58 Wow. It took 35 weeks, but we broke a record. There's a lot of mind blows. And I only have one, so they're all you guys. I got to say, last episode was really popping. You can really go deep on these TV themes, because quite often we don't know much about the artists. There's still so many to go. Tip of the iceberg.
Starting point is 00:18:12 I could be talked into going part three next week. I don't know if we need to rush it until next week. The vaccine's not out yet. You know what I mean? We got some time. I don't know if we need to go trilogy. Before we go to the holiday jams. Oh, there's the Russian Sputnik V coming up, nipping at the eels of Pfizer.
Starting point is 00:18:28 I don't even, yeah. I just know that. 92% effective, according to the Russians. I don't think I got that update yet. It's great news. Synthetic. Yakov Smirnov is my favorite Russian. There you go.
Starting point is 00:18:38 We're keeping score at home. Hard-boiled Zukov guy. I'm a Nikolai Volkov guy myself. Right, from Baltimore, right? I would like to thank some partners right off the top here, if you guys don't mind. So Great Lakes, always a fantastic partner. Keepin' us lubricated.
Starting point is 00:18:55 What beer did you crack open, Cam? I've got the Hayes Mama. That might be my last Hayes Mama, actually. But no, I put it on the table for you. Just wipe my droplets out there. When was your last COVID test? Before I drink that. It's been a while.
Starting point is 00:19:11 So thank you, Great Lakes Beer. We love our fresh craft beer. Everybody should go to greatlakesbeer.com. If you're in the right geographic location, you get free delivery, but you can find it at LCBOs or you can go to the retail store. I was in there the other day dropping off stickers for one of their part-time drivers, Murph. Oh, Murph.
Starting point is 00:19:29 And they're actually looking to, yeah, Murph. You saw Murph? Yeah. Did you say hi from us? I did. They're looking to hire more part-time drivers. What's that pay? I don't have the salary in front of me.
Starting point is 00:19:39 What do you guess? It's got to be at least $14. I'm going to guess it's $14 an hour. $14 an hour? How many hours can you do? They can't go lower. Do you get tipped? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:19:47 Maybe. Anyways, you get to drive around the hood, you know, and you get to meet nice people who enjoy fresh crab. And you're driving around. I'm sorry. I might get a job here, Cam. Don't cockblock this. Now, are you driving around just the general vicinity
Starting point is 00:20:01 of the Great Lakes home base there? No, no. It's the entire 416. It's like a bit. The entire 416. Where's this going? They're hiring. I'm looking.
Starting point is 00:20:11 Okay. Are you? Because I can get you to- I have a car. I can get- And I don't really drink, so I won't get high off my own supply. I'll talk to Troy because they are- Let them know.
Starting point is 00:20:21 They are looking to hire- I want $25 an hour, but let them know. They're looking to hire part-time drivers. I will let them know. Thank you, PalmaPasta. PalmaPasta.com. They're in Mississauga and Oakville. Mike, hand to God I had PalmaPasta before I came here tonight.
Starting point is 00:20:34 So are you a believer? I'm not, but I had two slices. When atheists say hand to God, it doesn't mean anything. Whatever. Anyway, it's delicious. That's the main thing. The main thing is it's delicious and we should support them. PalmaPasta.com. Shout hand to God. It doesn't mean anything. Whatever. Anyway, it's delicious. That's the main thing. The main thing is it's delicious, and we should support them. Palmapasta.com.
Starting point is 00:20:48 Shout out to Anthony. I already mentioned the stickers. James Edgar has one. I just dropped some off for Murph. Oh, yeah, Murph. That's how we got into that. Murph's, yeah. How much does Murph make an hour?
Starting point is 00:20:58 I can hook you up with Murph's email address, and you can ask him, or you can just go straight to Troy and say how much does it pay. You remember the first drummer, current drummer for Dinosaur Jr. Is that Murph? Also Murph. Not Smurf. Maybe it's the same Murph. I was chatting with someone today about their podcast and I saw they had
Starting point is 00:21:15 Brendan Kennedy on and I've been talking to FOTM David Ryder about Brendan Kennedy writing about Toronto Miracle, which I'll reference in a minute. Long story short is I realized it's not the same Brendan Kennedy because I realized that's like John Smith, Brendan Kennedy writing about Toronto Miracle, which I'll reference in a minute. Long story short is I realized it's not the same Brendan Kennedy because I realized that's like John Smith, Brendan Kennedy. Like how many Brendan Kennedys are there? Like Kennedy is a popular Irish surname.
Starting point is 00:21:34 How many Brendens are there in... Brendan? Yeah. Brendan Kennedy is a popular name. Is it? I don't know any. Mike, do you know Brendan's brothers? Wait, Brendan Kennedy? Jamie Kennedy?
Starting point is 00:21:47 No. John F. Kennedy? No. I don't know. Peter Kennedy? No, Kevin Kennedy, who runs Pitch Talks. Oh, Pitch Talks. Wow, I didn't know that.
Starting point is 00:21:57 So we're talking about the Brendan Kennedy from the start. Correct, yeah. Okay. Yeah, ex-sports writer now. He's going to write about Toronto Miracle. Love it. And by the way, I won't go into a deep toronto miracle pitch right now good it's happening december it's to feed the hungry oh of course that's what i'm saying it's good i'm trying to feed the hungry
Starting point is 00:22:13 and it's taking a lot of time and effort and i'm getting zero dollars and zero cents but that's what i feel good in my heart i know so i just want to say saturday which is the day after tomorrow my longtime friend Jordan is good. I call her Jordy, but Jordy is going to be in my backyard for an episode. Oh, Jordy's coming here. And we're going to talk about Toronto Miracle. That's great.
Starting point is 00:22:30 So you're going to hear all about it, and hopefully you're going to read about it in the Toronto Star soon. That's great. If any press is listening and they can cover this fantastic event. Well, I would think if the press was listening to any podcast, this would be it, right?
Starting point is 00:22:40 Let's see. Brendan Kenney won a big journalism award last year. He was an investigative. He also wrote about my buddy's run around the city of Toronto, so that guy seems to cover all my, he's never written
Starting point is 00:22:51 about me, but that's okay. That's a good one. Joanne Glutish, do you guys know the name Joanne? I actually know Joanne Glutish very well.
Starting point is 00:22:57 How well do you know Joanne Glutish? Well, yeah, I happen to know that if you are in the market for a new home or condominium, Miss Glutish,
Starting point is 00:23:07 there's nobody better in the city other than maybe my sister, but that's a whole other conversation. That's a whole different conversation. Mike, do you ever see clips of Don Rickles on The Tonight Show in the 90s? I feel, or sorry, in the 70s? I feel like this is the vibe. Like he's Don Rickles, you're Johnny Carson.
Starting point is 00:23:21 That's a compliment. It's a mile a minute over here. That's a compliment. Thank you. He was cool. Thank you. You know cool. Thank you. You know, like guests that are like quiet and uninspired. That's like what camera might say.
Starting point is 00:23:33 When you're just a little low energy, right? You're a little low key, low key F2020. Well, it's the middle of November. We're in like a backyard. Well, the jams are coming. I'm going to cut to the jams. What about glutish? You never finish your ad. Yeah. Fun fact. I don't know if I've mentioned this to you. Finish your the jams are coming. I'm going to cut to the jams. What about glutish? You never finish your ad.
Starting point is 00:23:45 Yeah. Fun fact. I don't know if I've mentioned this to you. Finish your library. Fun fact. Joanne is one word, Joanne. It's not two words. It's one.
Starting point is 00:23:52 That's not that fun. The A is capitalized. Oh, that is fun. Think about that. Yeah, that's great. Joanne. That's a good gimmick. Yeah, and that's a fact.
Starting point is 00:24:00 I like that. Here, just in a nutshell, I've got it down to 15 seconds. It's not the full version I played last time, but this is FOTM Sheila. Oh, Sheila! Who has never blocked Kim. Holy shit! As far as I know. But this is Sheila.
Starting point is 00:24:10 You ready? Oh my God. So whether you're looking to buy your first home, move up, purchase an income property, help your parents sell the house they've been in for 40 years, or just have your questions answered, visit her at joannegludish.com and then give her a call. So shout out. Sheila nailed that. Good job.
Starting point is 00:24:30 One take Sheila. Somebody was upset that Stu was a little over the top with his praise. Over the top. That's called genuine sincerity. You're reading the room wrong, whoever wrote that. Or is that Stallone? Oh, yeah, it wasn't Hogan. It was arm wrestling or something.
Starting point is 00:24:44 I feel like if I called a public library and they did not answer the phone and then Sheila's voice did like, you've reached the library. Press one to reach Daniel Kuchar's mom. He did. Oh my God, that is true. I don't even get that reference.
Starting point is 00:25:00 That must be a Thornhill reference. That's in the iGraduate from Thornley95. Shout out to DJ Farbsy. Yes. Absolutely. Sorry for your loss, Farbsy. CDN Technologies. You won't lose your data, that's for sure, because Barb's got your back.
Starting point is 00:25:13 Oh, Barb. Barb Paluskiewicz. Spelled like it sounds. BP. Call her, 905-542-9759. 5-9. They're your outsourced IT department. And we opened the program by, you know, giving our condolences to the loss of Alex Trebek.
Starting point is 00:25:30 Is this a segue into a funeral plug? Please tell me that's not what's about to happen. I can't come out of these up-tempo records with a dedication to a dead dog. You are really something else. Go ahead. You're a piece of work. Go ahead. This year's Holidays and're a piece of work. Go ahead.
Starting point is 00:25:45 This year's Holidays and Hope Candlelight Service of Remembrance will be a live online event. You're invited to join the good people
Starting point is 00:25:53 at Ridley Funeral Home to receive comforting messages, enjoy live music, and reflect on your loved one's life and legacy. It is Wednesday, write this down, Wednesday, December 2nd
Starting point is 00:26:03 at 7 p.m. If you wish to attend, RSVP at 416-259-3705 or just write them. Contact us at ridleyfuneralhome.com. Cam Gordon. Is he going to be there? I hope to see you. Keynote speaker?
Starting point is 00:26:21 I hope not. I don't know. Featured general? No, like attending. I'm just saying. I don't know. Featured? No, like attending. I'm just saying I don't want to be sort of in a... Oh, you don't want us to be remembering you. Correct. Because there's still time.
Starting point is 00:26:32 Yeah, I mean, we have a few more episodes before. Right. We got to get to the big four. Oh, okay. Absolutely. Now, anything you want to say before I kick out your first jam? TV themes, part two. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:26:41 I say let it rip. I mean... Part two. Yeah. I say let it rip. I mean. Making your way in the world today takes everything you've got. Taking a break from all your worries sure would help a lot.
Starting point is 00:27:00 Wouldn't you like to get away? Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name. Bye. You want to be where everybody knows your name You want to go where people know People are all the same You want to go where everybody knows your name Sit, Ubu, sit. Good dog. Very good. Mike's kids just came. Cam, I just want to commend you. That was very, very good.
Starting point is 00:27:49 Hearing that back, I always... Should I wait to give you some... No, let's just get it. I mean, the host is not paying attention. Okay, so I always romanticized, Cam, as a youngster growing up, watching the television program Cheers. Cheers.
Starting point is 00:28:03 That was Woody Harrelson singing that song. Yeah. As a kid, I always imagined that that Woody was the one who was singing the song from Cheers. Okay. I could see that, but I... Sorry. Even though we heard it with Coach. Huh?
Starting point is 00:28:20 Like Coach. Like way before Woody, that was the theme. Exact same theme when coach was right in the bar. right, right, but I'm just saying,
Starting point is 00:28:26 I just thought. I know, because you were young and I have many years on you. I was going to say, shocking confession, never see an episode, cheers.
Starting point is 00:28:33 Okay, because I was going to ask you the obvious question, which is coach or Woody and then you got to ask, is it Diane or Rebecca? I've never heard a coach or Woody be a thing.
Starting point is 00:28:41 Who's coach? That's a thing. Now, Woody is clearly the. Wasn't there, there was a TV show coach, was there? Yeah, that's the guy from Poltergeist. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Now, Woody is clearly the- Wasn't there, there was a TV show, Coach, was there? Yeah,
Starting point is 00:28:45 that's the guy from Poltergeist. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay, so I'm the oldest in the room. Let me just take over for a moment to tell you.
Starting point is 00:28:50 On the death. The death of Coach was similar to me to the death of Mr. Hooper. Ah. Okay? I remember when Coach died. This was a very likable old,
Starting point is 00:28:58 you know, older guy, but he was a very likable. You kind of see him getting sicker and then he dies and they replace him with the character Woody Harrelson. So they're similar characters but different
Starting point is 00:29:08 but obviously... Was Mike Ted Danson there? Ted was there the whole time because without Ted there's no Cheers. But then like Shelley Long. Shelley Long leaves to be a movie star and then they bring in Rebecca. The great Kirstie Alley. Who's been in the news lately. Big Trump guy. The two little ones who came to the
Starting point is 00:29:24 window, Monica showed them we're on Periscope and there's a delay. If they come here, they're on the camera and then they run back and they see themselves being on TV. By the way, just to answer a question from the Periscope, somebody wrote, does Mike have the heater on him? Yes.
Starting point is 00:29:39 Mike has the heater on himself and not Cam and I. What about the guests? He's worried about gear that is totally fine in this weather. Do you want it? You can have it. No, I'm just saying. It's just rude. But yeah, Mike has the heat.
Starting point is 00:29:52 He advertised to Cam and I, don't worry, guys. I got a heat lamp. And it's not pointed at us. So I don't see. I'm happy to share it with you. I'm fine. I don't even have this fucking fleece blanket. It's the fucking LA years. You can ruin, man. Cheers is a great song. I'm fine. I don't even have this fucking fleece blanket. It's the fucking LA years.
Starting point is 00:30:05 You can ruin, man. Cheers is a great song. Cheers. Great. Who wants some fun facts? Do you want some fun facts? I do. I want some
Starting point is 00:30:11 because I love that show. Yeah, I love this song. I guess we'll hear about the song. Even though you've never seen an episode. I'd like to hear the song facts, I guess.
Starting point is 00:30:18 Well, here we go. Sounds like a Beatles song. I don't think we should be kicking out jams from shows we didn't watch. I kind of agree, yes. Nevertheless. Nevertheless.
Starting point is 00:30:25 You know, very Cam to come out as strong as he's ever come out and then drop a bomb on us that he's never seen the show. Go to hell. Who said they thought it was Woody's sign? That was me. Well, it was actually a gentleman named Gary Portnoy. Oh, Gary Portnoy. GP.
Starting point is 00:30:42 So he co-wrote this song with someone named Judy Hart Angelo. Big jam. Sang it. The song's from 1982. So Portnoy had previously written songs for people like Air Supply, who I think we were talking about last week. Because they had a big hit with a song. Wait, 82?
Starting point is 00:31:00 Cheers was on in 82? That's when it started, yeah. Yeah. Wow, I didn't know that. So he wrote a song for Air Supply called I'll Never Get Enough and also wrote a song for Dolly Parton called Say Good Night. Remember, we talked about who's the guy who wrote Meatloaf and did the Hulk Hogan song?
Starting point is 00:31:16 Steinman. Yes, Jim Steinman. He also had a big hit with Air Supply around that same time. So we're seeing a common theme that, especially in the 80s, a lot of people who wrote these songs also wrote other TV shows. So this gentleman also wrote the Mr. Belvedere. Classic jam.
Starting point is 00:31:33 As sung by someone I think you in 1236 mentioned. Oh, Redbone. Leon Redbone. Leon Redbone. Big time Toronto connection. Also wrote the theme song, and I meant to look this up. I just ran out of time. The Punky Brewster theme. Wow, good one.
Starting point is 00:31:47 Wow, I remember Punky Brewster. Maybe the world will change. Wow. Now this song. So Leo Moon Fry. This is very interesting. The original version of this song actually had very different opening lyrics. Oh, shit.
Starting point is 00:32:01 So I'm going to try to like sing these very. Okay, go. I can't wait to hear you sing. Singing the blues when the Red Sox lose. It's a crisis in your life. On the run because all your girlfriends want to be your wife. And the laundry tickets in the wash. And I don't know.
Starting point is 00:32:19 They were wise to change it. Yeah, but Red Sox mentioned right there. Because Sam Malone was a relief pitcher for the Boston Red Sox. Mayday Malone. Yeah. That was the whole thing. He was a former relief pitcher for the Red Sox who opened a bar in Boston. Okay.
Starting point is 00:32:32 Which, I mean, makes sense. A lot of Red Sox. In 2000. And coach, I think. Was coach a coach of the Red Sox? Was he like a pitching coach or something? One thing I do remember, though, when there was an opening scene, there was a guy who had the sign that said, we win or something.
Starting point is 00:32:43 But that was sort of like a stock photo. Well, it couldn't have been recent. 1919?, We win or something. That was a stock photo. It couldn't have been recent. 1919? That was Chicago. Johnny Damon or anything. It was when Babe Ruth was on the team. Kevin Euclid. He was a big Euclid guy.
Starting point is 00:32:56 2011. Rolling Stone magazine named Where Everybody Knows Your Name was voted the best television theme of all time. Rolling Stone, man. And then in 2013, TV Guide gave it the same award. It's memorable. I'm glad we got to it.
Starting point is 00:33:13 Smashcut to 2020, the current year. Is that a commercial for Applebee's? It better have been. You guys ever eat at Applebee's? I think I've been to an Applebee's. I've been to one Applebee's once. There's one near Heartland in Mississauga Is it in Canada, Applebee's?
Starting point is 00:33:27 $9.99 all you can eat apps I thought it was I thought I was at an Applebee's in Mississauga Applebee's is a pretty decent chain I mean if you're like in the middle of nowhere Is it as good as the Olive Garden It's very similar
Starting point is 00:33:42 It's in the same wheelhouse as I liked Olive Garden when I was a young man. Chili's. It disappeared. Applebee's. Chili's. And I have a very, very... Mike, this is becoming my new gimmick.
Starting point is 00:33:53 Every song I like to have an FOTM tie-in. Yes, please. So this song's been covered a few times. I think there was like punk rock versions. I remember I had an EP by the band The Wedding Present. Remember The Wedding Present? They were a British band from the 90s. They did a version of this song.
Starting point is 00:34:08 What does this have to do with Applebee's? Wait, what does that do with FOTM? We're going, you know, it's FOTM. Okay. I don't know why I remember this. In 1995, Alan Cross, FOTM. Wow. Was he there?
Starting point is 00:34:19 He was there. Wrote a book called The Alternative Music Almanac. Okay, I believe that. That part of it had like a timeline of the called the alternative music almanac okay i believe that that part of it had like a timeline of the history of alternative music and this is 1995 so a lot's happened since then yeah but they had a picture that was supposed to be nick cave in the birthday party but it was actually a photo of the wedding presents oh wow i don't know why i remember that but yeah that's like i'll tweet a photo of it right after this
Starting point is 00:34:46 That's the dewy winds of Almanacs Which I can see like the birthday party, the wedding present I can understand why people would mix it up Of course By the way On the Periscope Potential Applebee's
Starting point is 00:35:00 Get together for FOTMs who are listening There is one in Ajax Okay And I'm suggesting that maybe when The pandemic is over Applebee's get together for FOTMs who are listening. There is one in Ajax. Okay. And I'm suggesting that maybe when the pandemic is over, we all make the drive out to, it's worth the drive to Ajax and we get some Applebee's. And I actually have a text comment here. Who is texting?
Starting point is 00:35:18 My girlfriend, MF. Okay, MF. Look at that. It's the live stream in the background. She's been to the Cheers Bar in Boston and did a little. Wow. Look at that. I knew I liked her. Look at that. She is really cool. Shout out to MF. stream in the background. She's been to the Cheers Bar in Boston. Oh, wow. Look at that. I knew I liked her.
Starting point is 00:35:27 Look at that. She is really cool. Shout out to her. Ever since she gave me a beer on my birthday. Love her. She's a delight. Number one. Anyway. But next time, she's pointing over her shoulder and saying,
Starting point is 00:35:38 there's Detroit. She's probably been there. To Ajax? She's probably been there. She's probably been there. She's probably been there, too. What's she doing in Ajax? Guys, I never do this, but there's lots of jams and lots of mind blows, so we've got
Starting point is 00:35:49 to get rocking. Let's do this. Because most of the mind blows blow. There's an Olive Garden, by the way, at Yonge and Edmonton. I think I won that round. No. Yes. No, there is not.
Starting point is 00:35:55 I'm sure there's not. No, no, no. It's what's being said to me. Okay, we'll have to verify that. We'll check that out. I don't think it is. Okay. Okay.
Starting point is 00:36:02 Are you ready for your first jam, Stu, or you got like a preface? Hold on a minute. Let me just... your first jam, Stuart? You got like a preface there. Hold on a minute. Let me just. Okay, Cam, do me a favor. Let me take a look at you, bud. Do me a favor. Wait, wait.
Starting point is 00:36:12 There it is. Come on. Yeah, show me that smile, Cam. There it is. Show me that smile. Show me that smile. Don't waste another minute on you crying. We're nowhere near the end. The best is ready to begin. In our hands, baby, you and me We gotta be the luckiest dreamers
Starting point is 00:36:47 Who never quit dreaming As long as we keep on giving We can take anything that comes our way Maybe rain or shine all the time We got each other sharing the laughter and love Wow. Just a great one right there, ladies and gentlemen. The great Stu Stone with the great Growing Pains theme song. Wow.
Starting point is 00:37:19 Growing Pains is, of course, a sitcom. One of the better sitcoms. Surprisingly, how many years do you think that show was on? Okay, I think it went for 10 years. 10 seasons? I'd say 8. 8. The actual retail price, 7.
Starting point is 00:37:36 Oh. So it felt like it was on longer than it was, but 7 seasons, 166 episodes, tons of syndication. It was on every day practically. You know, after school at some point at like 5.30 in the afternoon or something on, you know, the new VR. Yeah. That type of thing.
Starting point is 00:37:55 CFMT. What's happening now? Yeah. Cam sent me a YouTube link. I think you might have to fast forward a bit, because I believe it's the same artist going to be singing this song in a bit. What's happening right now?
Starting point is 00:38:12 Why not get right to the point? Cam's hijacking your choice. I feel like this might weave into one of the fun parts. So what I'm looking at is I'm looking at the grand opening of Sky Dome. Were you there? I was. Alan Thicke and Andrea Martin are on stage right now.
Starting point is 00:38:30 So I'll bring this down, but I think Cam thought it would be something nice. Did you just send it to him right now? Yeah. Huh. Is that what we're doing now? Dude, the floor is yours. The floor is yours. Alan Thicke, the late, great Alan Thicke. Starred as Dr. Jason Seaver.
Starting point is 00:38:46 A psychologist, if I'm not mistaken. Worked out of his home. Psychiatrist. Worked out of his home. Head of the curve. Joanna Kearns. Yes. Maggie.
Starting point is 00:38:56 Maggie Malone. Kirk Cameron. Michael Seaver. Mike Seaver. Friend of DeBone. DeBoner. That's right. Tracy Gold.
Starting point is 00:39:05 Carol Ann Seaver. Eating of the Bone. The Boner. That's right. Tracy Gold. Carol Ann Seaver. Eating Disorder. Ooh. Jeremy Miller. Ben. What's he up to? Ben Seaver. Yeah, what is he up to?
Starting point is 00:39:13 The great Ashley Johnson, who played Chrissy, the little kid. Leonardo DiCaprio. Wow. Leo. Played Luke Brower for a season. He was like a runaway or something? Yes, something like that. That's a big one.
Starting point is 00:39:26 And of course, Andrew Coeng, who played Richard Milhouse Boner Stabone. Boner Stabone. How about that? Can I tell you that I spent an afternoon with Alan Thicke? Ooh, where? So I was doing work. Like a Loblaws? No.
Starting point is 00:39:42 At a production house in this neck of the woods. I was doing work for a company that had hired Alan Thicke as their spokesperson. We were filming a bunch of television ads and I was hanging with him. He was very proud of his son Robin. He had a lot of talk about Robin and some of his recent successes.
Starting point is 00:39:59 Was this pre or post Blurred Lines? Pre. Now just like I had thought Woody sang the theme song for Cheers, I always had this image in my head that Alan Thicke sang the Growing Pains song. And that's why I sent it to Michael Boone. I think I thought that too because Alan Thicke wrote that song. Well, fake news. No, he didn't.
Starting point is 00:40:20 And no, he didn't. Oh, no. But he wrote something. No, not that. What about Different Strokes? Yeah, Different Strokes I was going to say. I don't know. Why don't you look no. But he wrote something. No, none of that. What about different strokes? Yeah, different strokes I was going to say. I don't know. Why don't you look it up? But it's definitely not this. Skydome is quite a place. Stu is always
Starting point is 00:40:31 a little testy when the weather is not perfect. He's hostile. Hostile negotiations here, guys. I'm not going to concede. Here we go. The theme for fucking What the fucking? What is this? Growing fucking pigs. Growing pigs. There were nine versions of the theme song used. Wow. Nine. for fucking what the fucking what is this? Growing fucking growing pains.
Starting point is 00:40:45 There were nine versions of the theme song used. Wow. Nine. Wow. Okay. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:51 The royal pains. Let me get to some fun facts here. One of the seasons do you remember the nylons? Oh. Do you guys remember
Starting point is 00:40:59 like na na na hey hey goodbye was a big hit. Of course. And then Bobby McFerrin had don't worry be happy. Yes. And then of course boys to men had Don't Worry, Be Happy. And then, of course, Boys to Men did So Hard to Say Goodbye for Yesterday. Rockapella.
Starting point is 00:41:12 Rockapella. Acapella was making a big comeback. Uptown Girl. Never left. Let's check out what Growing Pains did to keep up with the trend in season six. Show me that smile. Show me that smile. Don't waste another minute on your crying. I remember this. I like it.
Starting point is 00:41:31 It's different. It sounds like community theater in like four seasons. Yeah. Not four seasons. What you say? Oh. Moke and Geek. in Slides. Ooh, whatcha say? Oh. I like that one.
Starting point is 00:41:47 Moken. Okay, when you're ready, Stu, I have a list of TV theme songs that Alan Fink wrote. He did not write Grown Men. I'm not ready yet. We can take anything that comes our way Maybe rain or shine All the time We got each other
Starting point is 00:42:13 Sharing the laughter and love Okay, so here's the thing. The fans shat all over that version. In a few episodes into season six, they pulled it and re-recorded. First of all, BJ Thomas should get credit for being the singer of the Growing Pain song. Really a who's who list of females that accompanied him on the song throughout the different various recordings. Of course, a fun fact, Eric Carman released a version of the song and it actually peaked at number 51
Starting point is 00:42:48 on the Billboard chart. Speak of big Trump guys. So yeah, they abandoned that acapella version and they went with this one here. I'm sorry, I'm not on the right page. Okay, say that again. They abandoned the acapella and went with this. This version. This is going to blow people's minds, guys. But this became the... Time rocks.
Starting point is 00:43:29 Don't waste another minute on your crying We're nowhere near the end The best is ready to begin Okay, so this was released as a song. Yeah, because it's like four minutes long. This sounds like new country. Wait until you realize who released as a song. Yeah, because it's like four minutes long. This sounds like new country. Wait until you realize who's singing this song. I'll leave it to Cam because I'm reading it.
Starting point is 00:43:52 But it is a fun fact. Who do you think this female is? Who the female is? Okay. There's no way he's going to guess it. No, who is it? Dusty Springfield. No.
Starting point is 00:44:03 Yes. Dusty Springfield. No. Yes. Dusty Springfield and BJ Thomas picked up. It picked it up. She continued on the rest of the way. Okay. Seeing the various different versions. Dusty Springfield. That's a genuine mind blow.
Starting point is 00:44:17 That's a mind blow. I'll give it to Stu. Like Carol Pope was probably like lurking off set. This version played in the lobby of dentist's office all over North America because it got play on the adult contemporary hot AC format in early 89, peaking at number five. That was CHFI back in the day. Number five on the chart. And BJ Thomas, in case
Starting point is 00:44:35 we haven't mentioned it, you might know him from such hits as Raindrops Keep Falling on My... Am I stealing your thunder here? No, no, go ahead. Didn't he do Hooked on a Feelin'? I don't know. I don't have it in front of me. I will say that Growing Pain spawned a spinoff series.
Starting point is 00:44:53 I don't know if you guys remember. Oh, yes. It was like The Babysitter and Mike Seaver together. No, Growing Pain spinoff was called Just the Ten of Us. Of course, yes. With a coach Like a chubby white Coach guy
Starting point is 00:45:06 And one of them Was Heather Langenkamp From Nightmare on Elm Street I also feel like You guys I might be making this up I might be making this up
Starting point is 00:45:17 But I'm pretty sure I'm not That the final episode Of Growing Pains When they move out of the house I feel like Another Like Family Matters moves in. I feel like another show moved into their house.
Starting point is 00:45:29 Am I crazy? Like step-by-step? Yeah, like something like that. Like a different show moved into the house. I don't remember that. I think Stu is... Am I imagining that? I don't know if it's that cut and dry,
Starting point is 00:45:40 but yeah, I think there's some connective tissue with another ABC franchisec uh franchise like they're the ones that moved in like the fresh prince i don't know it's not the fresh prince should i look this up because it might be okay well i'm gonna just let everybody know that uh i erroneously said i thought alan thick wrote this song because i'm confusing things of course the two big theme songs that alan thick wrote were different strokes and the facts of life wow those two theme songs written by alan because i i remember in growing pains there was a song sung by alan thick they they went to hawaii or something and it was a it was a real like schmaltzy ballady type song like it sounded
Starting point is 00:46:19 like christopher cross sailing the jesus freak was Cameron, Kirk Cameron, married his buffalo-born girlfriend from the show. She had like blonde hair or something? I thought she had, no, he didn't like her because she had appeared
Starting point is 00:46:33 in Playboy or something. It was a brunette that he was dating on the show that he married. What was that show he swept away, or the movie
Starting point is 00:46:40 swept away? Stu has something exciting to say. Oh my God, I have like breaking news. Breaking fucking news. Do you know the show Hanging with Mr. Cooper? Yes.
Starting point is 00:46:48 He moved into the Grog Payne's house. Stu's right, then. He's got a good memory there. Why did Hanging with Mr. Cooper? Because that was the same person did the theme song for Hanging with Mr. Cooper that wrote Perfect Strangers. Yes. As discussed last week. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:47:03 Right. Right. It all comes full circle. We have to do a As discussed last week. Oh my God. Right. Right. It all comes full circle. Wow. We have to do a third part of that. Someone shouting out the Edison Twins great theme song. Well. Someone shouting out.
Starting point is 00:47:11 FOTM wrote that. My Secret Identity also being shouted out. Yes. Oh wow. Yes. With Dr. Jeffcoat. Okay. Great.
Starting point is 00:47:17 That's a great show. Okay. And the guy from Stand By Me. Degrassi was played last week. Yeah. Degrassi was last week. Let me get to mine. If you're born in the...
Starting point is 00:47:25 Mike, we're two for two. It was Bojana's like losing it over there. I'm going... Even though Alan Thicke is Canadian, it's still an American song. I'm going to go
Starting point is 00:47:34 CanCon of mine. You ready? Yes. Let's do it. Now look up. Way up. And we're on our way to the castle.
Starting point is 00:47:41 I'll hurry over first and go in the back door so I can let the drawbridge down and open the big front doors for you. Good one. Ready? Very nice. Here's my castle. The recorder.
Starting point is 00:48:01 So this is hitting me right in the nostalgic bone. What's the record? Not a flag. Yeah. So this is hitting me right in the nostalgic bone. It wasn't a report, not a fluke. Yeah. Skin fluke. This was my jam, guys. It's like Ian Anderson over here. Playing the harp. Beautiful song.
Starting point is 00:48:28 What a gentle melody. This is like a nap time fucking song. So this recorder bit, which I have a mind-blowing fun fact about in just a moment, but I'm going to let the good captain talk to us again here. Here we are inside. Here's one little chair. What a friendly giant he was. Friendly giant. I think a captive kangaroo. It's my nickname. Someone who likes to rock. Here's one little chair. What a friendly giant he was. Here's a friendly giant. I think a captive kangaroo.
Starting point is 00:48:45 It's my nickname. Someone who likes to rock. Okay. A rocking chair. I love those little, those little, you know, little models.
Starting point is 00:48:54 So I, every day, the friendly giant would come on and I loved this show. And he, you know, was rusty
Starting point is 00:49:01 and they would, you know, the friendly giant would put out the chair for me. And honestly, I'm listening to Rusty now and the Friendly Giant would put out the chair for me. And honestly, I'm listening to Rusty now and Jerome the Giraffe. And anyways, this was my stuff. So if you're of a certain age, because if you're a little too young, it just won't mean anything to you.
Starting point is 00:49:16 But if you're a certain age, listening to the Friendly Giant theme should do it for you. Want to be blown away by this fun fact? Sure do. In the history of Pandemic Fridays, in 35 weeks of Pandemic Fridays, this is the oldest jam we've ever kicked out. That song
Starting point is 00:49:35 that opened up every episode of Stu had my wife run down the street to buy him some Girl Guide cookies. I think they're called girl guys but uh anyway crack the seal on that song that opened up uh the friendly giant is called early one morning and it dates back to about uh they aren't sure exactly but the 1700s that song early one morning was composed in the 1700s. Sorry, the 1700s.
Starting point is 00:50:06 1700s. So, like, I think Bojana was just... How did they record it? Bojana was just in her 30s. It was written in the 1700s. They did not record it. It was live every episode, I think. I don't know, maybe. But anyway, that show, The Friendly Giant,
Starting point is 00:50:19 it aired from 1958. How did they record it if it was in the 1700s? You know how it is back then. You pass it down to your kids kids and then they tell their kids. It's like on a stone tablet or something. You just tell it. You teach your children and they teach their children. And that's how you keep it alive through the years.
Starting point is 00:50:31 I should have got the mint cookies. These are kind of weak. Oh, people. Well, give me a glass of milk. I'll join right in there. So, Friendly Giant aired from 1958 to 1985. Wow. Shout out to Rusty the Rooster
Starting point is 00:50:47 and Jerome the Giraffe and of course the Friendly Giant. Love that show. Okay, Cam Gordon. Good pick. Thank you. Oh, I like your pick here, Cam, because this is one of my favorite shows of all time. A bit more contemporary here. You ready? Yes. Get yourself a, what was the
Starting point is 00:51:03 drink that he would have? Do you remember? An old fashioned. Old fashioned. An old fashioned. Here we go. This is a good show. Excellent show.
Starting point is 00:51:21 You gotta watch it. I love it. How many seasons is it? it's like five or six five or six and it just like gets better and better
Starting point is 00:51:30 as you go it's pretty consistent I think it's pretty steady it's pretty steady it's always good I think it's always good this might be the last show I've watched too
Starting point is 00:51:38 oh wow even though it went off the air like god it's been off what six years it's been off a while now but yeah
Starting point is 00:51:43 why did it go off the air? These things run their courses, right? Did it have a definitive ending? Yeah. Okay, don't ruin it then. I wasn't going to ruin it. It's worth it. I feel like we're going to be in lockdown soon anyway. Honestly, one of my favorite shows of
Starting point is 00:52:00 all time is Mad Men. Cam, did you watch this show? I actually watched it i i know we joke that i i don't watch tv but this this was definitely one of the last shows that i i really got into i even have the dvd all the dvds of this show um i believe they're currently living at mf's cottage right now so you can in that first episode the pilot's called uh when smoke gets in your eyes i've i can watch that pilot over and over again. It's like a movie.
Starting point is 00:52:26 I just think it's stunning. It's really well done. I mean, I have many thoughts about this show, which we'll get to in a minute. Anyway, the name of the song is A Beautiful Mind by the artist RJD2. Too close to R2-D2, right? Very similar. He was kind of an electronic artist slash hip-hop producer type guy um this song was actually on an album that he put out his third album it was called magnificent
Starting point is 00:52:50 city in 2006 um this was actually the last song on the album and not not a single but subsequently madman started around that time so this was subsequently adopted as the madman theme and i know for me like when I was watching the show, I was also working for agencies, albeit not advertising agencies, but... You could relate. To some degree, like, I don't know, when I started working for PR agencies,
Starting point is 00:53:18 which is in like 2004, it was definitely less male dominated and definitely less... More Peggy Olsen's. Yeah, I'd say so. But I remember when this show came on, every edition of like Adweek and Ad Age and Marketing Magazine and Strategy Magazine. Inevitably, they do like their year end awards, like Agency of the Year. And every agency that won would do the bad man themed photo shoot sure
Starting point is 00:53:45 and everyone thought it was like you know sort of this original thought and for like three years it was like all these bad men themed photo shoots great show sites and i liked how you know it ran through i guess it starts in the 50s and then it ends i guess in the early 70s or something like that but it you get to kind of like things happen in real the things that happen in real life happen around the show you know like be it uh you know the be it the JFK assassination or Marilyn Monroe dying and those kind of things. Even some early technology, I don't know if you remember, there was an iconic episode with the Kodak slideshow. Oh my God, the best scene ever is when Don Draper pitches the carousel.
Starting point is 00:54:22 That's the best scene, I think, in the whole fucking series. Yeah, I mean, I always like the show too. Because I mean there wasn't really that much action. It was pretty. No. Kind of low rung. It was just kind of day to day stuff of a bunch of people. A real.
Starting point is 00:54:35 Albeit stylized. But snapshot of Madison Avenue in the 1960s. And kind of the advent of like just sort of mass media too. As someone who's kind of worked in this industry for a while um again like there was there was even some like ad campaigns like with like coke and stuff that were you know slices of uh stuff that actually happened in there um can i say a few words about the artist rjd2 of course because we had a whole like minute and a half left in the jam here too yeah so he he uh perhaps he's most famous also for remixing other artists including massive attack the doves or i think just doves um yola tango and
Starting point is 00:55:13 one of one of the artists that i famously botched in an earlier episode jodakai most death most death most death not jodakai um i i have a small anecdote this this is perhaps even less interesting than my alan cross anecdote but uh do you know the creator of madman matthew weiner weiner is this gonna be about the sopranos he was uh okay uh i know of him but yeah he was like a writer or like a showrunner so he was kind of like, I believe he was executive producer for Mad Men. So back in 2017, he did, I don't know if you, I don't think Stu would go because I think he was still in LA during these years. Mike, have you ever been to any of the events at the Toronto Reference Library? Where David Marsden spoke last year?
Starting point is 00:56:00 Yes. No. Yeah, exactly. So I've been to several events there over the years, including God, Martin Amis. I saw Salman Rushdie there. Wow. But I went to one actually with Matthew Weiner with my dad. Wow. He had written his first novel, Heather the Totally was the name of this novel back in 2017. And I remember this very specifically because the day before, this is right in the midst of the Me Too hardcore movement where a lot of people were being outed for bad behavior.
Starting point is 00:56:29 The day before, Matthew Weiner had, I think it was in Variety or Hollywood Reporter, a writer for Mad Men named, what's her name? Kater Gordon, no relation to me, accused Weiner of making comments at the office one night to the effect of that she owed it to him to see her naked. Weiner did not comment on that. I don't think anything ever came of that, but I do remember
Starting point is 00:56:57 that was the day before his appearance at the Toronto Reference Library, and unlike every single other Q&A I saw there, where there was like Salman Rushdie or Martin Amis or Daniel Klaus or other people I saw there, they did not do an open Q&A after. Which I thought was very interesting. Me and my dad were sort of wondering,
Starting point is 00:57:16 is like, are people going to ask him about this? But they didn't. They didn't even try. Now, Stu, which fun fact did you like better, that one or the Alan Cross one? Can you wake me up when September ends? Jesus, guys. But this is good.
Starting point is 00:57:29 We love that, man. Okay. I like it because, you know, we're learning. Yeah, sure, Cam hasn't seen The Godfather, okay, or maybe he has, but I don't, you know. I have seen The Godfather. Okay. But, you know, he's a cultured guy. He's going to the reference library to hear Salman Rushdie talk.
Starting point is 00:57:42 Yeah, authors. That's kind of cool. Yeah. I also saw Conrad Black there, if you can believe it. Oh, I saw him at a Leafs game once. Oh, I got to do a quick... It was a scoundrel. I was at the Ontario Science Centre with the two little ones maybe four years ago.
Starting point is 00:57:56 And the guy who played Pete, Vincent Kartheiser, I think is his name, was there with his wife who was in town filming the show with Peggy Olsen, Handmaid's Tale. Really? Yeah. Who's his wife? And they're married. She's from Gilmore Girls. She played Rory in Gilmore Girls.
Starting point is 00:58:13 And now she has a starring role in The Handmaid's Tale. And it's, yes, I'm going to have to Google her. I actually saw Pete recently in the, I don't know what the show was called. It was like a Netflix, like social, The Social Dilemma. Was that the name of it? Yes, yes. I saw him in that. I don't know what the show was called. It was like a Netflix The Social Dilemma. Was that the name of it? Yes, I saw him in that. With the weird cut-ins. He was sort of the mad scientist behind the console. It seemed a bit unnecessary,
Starting point is 00:58:33 those scenes. I also saw a few of my former colleagues showed up in that. I was surprised to see him in that. Rory Gilmore is portrayed... The woman I saw was Alexis Bledel I think is how you say it but she's a big deal
Starting point is 00:58:47 herself any relation to Dean Bledel no turn in the bass that's Stafford oh that's Stafford keep your keep them straight
Starting point is 00:58:55 that's right okay great pick there Cam are you ready Stu yeah remember last week when Cam scared the shit out of you when he played the Doctor Who theme
Starting point is 00:59:02 yes I do very much and I know we talked about someone agreed with me on Twitter, by the way. It's a scary tune. We also have, I think, talked about the very scary TV Ontario Read All About It song. Read All About It. Which is very scary.
Starting point is 00:59:15 Terror. But I want to suggest that this song, you made me think, oh, well, the Doctor Who song is scary. But this might be scarier than the Doctor Who song, the one that I'm going to submit to you right now. Magic Shadows. Yeah, it's got that Halloween thing going there. That's a Halloween style. Yeah. Is this Unsolved Mysteries?
Starting point is 00:59:47 It is. Love it. I never watched it, so I can play the role of Cam. Oh, I've seen it. The bridge is coming. The bridge is coming to the song. It's a classic song here. Ready for the breakdown? breakdown it's coming
Starting point is 01:00:13 Kim you know I want to talk over this so bad one two three four oh
Starting point is 01:00:20 I could totally see this like Martin Street talking like this is like Sisters of Mercy like a B-side or something that's a Phoenix on a Friday night in the background Unsolved Mysteries what do you know
Starting point is 01:00:40 alright guys this fucking jam right here the scariest jam of them all Unsolved Mysteries What do you know? All right, guys. Locked and cranked. This fucking jam right here. Wow. The scariest jam of them all. Unsolved Mysteries. Wow. Good pick. Television show hosted by the one and only Robert Stack.
Starting point is 01:00:56 From Airplane? Boo. Robert Stack, the man, the myth, the legend. Sort of the Alex Trebek of mystery shows. Dry Ice. I thought that was Peter Graves. Calm and Cool. Robert Stack.
Starting point is 01:01:13 This show has been on television in some way, shape, or form for 30 years plus. Like non-stop? A couple of breaks in between. Started on NBC. Then moved to CBS. then moved to Lifetime, then moved to Spike TV. Whoa. Whoa.
Starting point is 01:01:32 Now it finds itself back with a brand new series on Netflix. A whole new Unsolved Mysteries on Netflix. I've seen like two episodes. And this is the Netflix version of the song. Oh. It's a lot more... Pretty cool though. I should have brought this for spooky dreams.
Starting point is 01:01:52 Yeah. This is sick. Of course, if you ever wanted to learn about UFOs, Bigfoot, murders, arsons, miracles, updates. Remember the updates? Yes. Campy acting, because the reenactment actors on Unsolved Mysteries are among the worst, best actors imaginable.
Starting point is 01:02:19 And are you prepared to have your mind blown? Yes. Is there another mind blow? No. Okay. It's a fun fact. Is there another mind blow? No. Okay. It's a fun fact. That's a mind blow. Sorry, I thought I had something else to say.
Starting point is 01:02:28 A mind blowing fun fact. Okay. I was going to say, I feel like there's a lot of spontaneous combustion. A very famous actor made one of his very early television appearances appearing as a reenactment actor. Can you give us a clue? I can give you a clue. Let me think.
Starting point is 01:02:44 All right. All right. Chris Evans. All me think. Alright. Chris Evans. Dustin Diamond. Alright. Alright. Alright. Matthew McConaughey. So this is before
Starting point is 01:02:57 Dazed and Confused. Matthew McConaughey was a reenactment actor on Unsolved Mysteries. That's what I like about high school girls. The older I get, every year I get older, they stay the same age. Yeah, that's it. Have you seen Days Unconfused? Yes, yes I have.
Starting point is 01:03:13 Great soundtrack. Unsolved Mysteries, I loved it. And the updates were great. Update. You always get so scared to see the updates too. Like scary updates. I'm just glad that- I'll just remind you of past scary stuff you saw.
Starting point is 01:03:27 I'm glad when Stu kicks out a theme song, it's from a show he watched and enjoyed, unlike Cam Gordon. But I do picture Cam hearing that song and just knowing him as a youngster. I picture him running and hiding under the dance. Okay, do you want to know the irony? I never saw Cheers.
Starting point is 01:03:41 I watched Friendly Giant. I watched Unknown... I was. I watched Unknown Pleasures. Shout out to Joy Division. Unsolved Mysteries. I watched, what was the other show? Growing Pains. I watched that and did not watch Cheers. So everything but the first one you did.
Starting point is 01:03:54 I did watch Mad Men. And you watched Mad Men. Okay, great. Four for five. Stu, do you want to say anything before I kick out your second jam? That was my jam. You just played it, Unsolved Mysteries. Now it's your turn, you son of a bitch.
Starting point is 01:04:06 Oh, I see. You have so many mind blows that they're all over the place. It's like, okay, you're right. It's my turn. Okay. Let's see if Cam has seen this great show. Oh. Down in Fraggle Rock. Work your ears away. Dancing's more rock than anything. Let the Fraggles play.
Starting point is 01:04:48 We're go-voguing like a bird. Fraggle Rock. Jim Henson Productions. Muppet Show spin-off. You know, the Muppet Show was filmed in the UK. This happened right here in Toronto, Fraggle Rock. That's true. Yep.
Starting point is 01:05:12 In fact, let's hear a little bit of Jim Henson talking about this great city of ours, Toronto. The Muppet Show has been taped in England for the past five years, and so I asked Jim why this show would be done in Toronto. The Muppet Show has been taped in England for the past five years, and so I asked Jim why this show would be done in Toronto. Well, we've had just real nice relationships in our past specials that we've done here, and when we first came up with this show and thinking about it and where would we like to do it, when we came up with the idea of doing it in Canada, we all just loved it. It seems right for the program. Hi-ho, Kermit the Frog.
Starting point is 01:05:47 The announcement of the new show was made by Henson and Jack Crane, the CBC's Director of Programming. Is this Linda from? Crane explained that the project would showcase Canadian talent as well as using Canadian crews and technicians. We think that over half of the creative element will be Canadian. Okay, so on that note as they tell us it's being filmed here with canadians a lot of music on fraggle rock including that
Starting point is 01:06:09 theme song and a couple of canadians behind the jams philip balsam who i had not heard of and dennis lee do you guys know who dennis lee is was he in like Crowbar? No, he's a poet. That was a key part of my youth because he wrote these two books, which I owned. One was called Alligator Pie, like an anthology. Yeah. And Garbage Delight. These are two anthologies of poetry. He wrote poems for kids.
Starting point is 01:06:41 Alligator Pie was like, must read. Alligator Pie. Is that like Freckle Juice? It was a big fucking deal. Bigger than that. I mean, this was a big deal. Chocolate fever? So, Fraggle Rock, filmed in Toronto. Bruno and Boots?
Starting point is 01:06:50 At the CBC. Gordon Corman. Jacob Tutu meets the Hooded Fang? Whatever happened to McDonald Hall? And then, yeah. Gordon Corman. Yeah, Gordon Corman. Amelia Bedelia?
Starting point is 01:07:00 Gordon Corman was a big deal, too. Went to Thornley. Went to German Hospital. We talked about this. The Paperbag Princess He wrote like a smut novel He did young adult stuff And then he did whatever
Starting point is 01:07:11 I think he wanted to be like Shel Silverstein Where are the sidewalk ins? My name is Sue How do you do? Are you there God? It's me Margaret You know who's still alive as of this moment? Judy Blume I think she's like 105 years old
Starting point is 01:07:25 Why don't you get her On the show Bring her in the backyard Yeah She's an older woman I gotta work on that But Fraggle Rock 1983 to 87
Starting point is 01:07:33 So right in my wheelhouse there At CBC Studios And on location Around the GTA So Mike That clip you just played What was that What were you listening to
Starting point is 01:07:42 That seems like That must have been A CBC news report It been a CBC news report. It was a CBC news report. That was like an MF of 85. It was MF. She was only four years old, but she put together a nice report. Is Fraggle Rock, is it considered CanCon?
Starting point is 01:07:56 Is this like Canadian content? Those songs are all written by Canadians. Canadians are doing all the stuff, but obviously it's a Jim Henson production. I want to confess something. You've never seen Frank O'Rourke. Of course I have. At one point in my life,
Starting point is 01:08:12 You auditioned to be Gomer. Jim Henson was my absolute hero. I thought he was the best. I still think he's the best. I loved Mel Blanc, and I loved Jim Henson. And Henson, of course, you know, growing up on Sesame Street and growing up on Muppet Babies and The Muppet Show. To a lesser extent, The Fraggles.
Starting point is 01:08:34 Yeah, but that was the big, you're right, that was the big three. You had Sesame Street, you had The Muppet Show. And, of course, McDonald's had the Fraggle Rock toys one year instead of The Muppet Babies. Wow. I remember those. Well, hold on to that nugget. It might come in useful soon, okay? Is Muppet Babies. Wow. Hold on to that nugget. It might come in useful soon.
Starting point is 01:08:47 Is Muppet Babies coming? Ixnay on the ombre! Ixnay on the ombre. I can do the whole thing. No need. If you ever saw the footage of the funeral for Jim Henson and
Starting point is 01:09:02 Big Bird. Is this a Ridley Funeral Home segue? Big Bird was saying, sing a song for Jim. Good. I mean, it's very good to find this footage of the Jim Henson funeral. Who also just died this last year too. Carol Spinney.
Starting point is 01:09:15 Yeah. Absolutely. Mike, you're a bit older than us. Were you scared of Fry Girls? I always found it a bit scary. The garbage heap made me. Garbage heap,
Starting point is 01:09:23 they lived in a cave. Because I'm older, I wasn't scared. In fact, by the time that show wraps up, I'm pre-teen or something. Two things I remember. One, they were sort of the droids. Yeah, the worker guys. Which would also be their food.
Starting point is 01:09:40 Yeah, they ate those tubes. Yeah, that was their food, which was, like, fucking bizarre. Well, every show opened with the old guy and the dog and, like, a letter. Yeah, like, the dog I found a bit scary. I will say this. Whenever they got outside and they encountered the trash heap,
Starting point is 01:09:59 that trash heap was a bit scary, you know? That guy's a talking trash heap. Now, Boober Fraggle. Kind of looked like Andy Cap. That guy's a talking trash heap. Now, Boober Fraggle. The cow looked like Andy Capp. Goober. Not Uber. Gobo. There was one that was really into laundry,
Starting point is 01:10:14 like had a laundry fetish. Who doesn't? I don't know. Am I matching this? It's funny. People of a certain age have these strange Fraggle look. You know, Mr. Cooper moved into the Growing Pains house. Moved into the cave.
Starting point is 01:10:29 Mr. Hooper, another product of the Jim Henson enterprise. May Mr. Hooper rest in peace. Of course, Cam, you know Dog City? Yes. That was Howie Mandel? No. What was that? Oh, no, it was Bobby's World.
Starting point is 01:10:41 He was a little baby. Dog City. That was the dog cartoon in Half Puppets, Half Cartoons. You were in it. Yes, that's right. Just making sure. Stew Stone. Jim Hansen Productions.
Starting point is 01:10:50 Just making sure. It's a gig. Paycheck. I think a lot of listeners will be very happy to hear that Cam Gordon's kicking out this particular theme song. This is a popular one.
Starting point is 01:10:59 We're like on fire tonight. Wait till next week when we get it right. Some feel-good tunes. Do you have any preface, any statements you want to make? No, I don't. Okay, let's kick out Cam Gordon's third TV theme song, Jam.
Starting point is 01:11:10 Well, we're moving on up We're moving on up To the east side We're moving on up To a deluxe apartment in the sky We're moving on up We're moving on up
Starting point is 01:11:23 To the east side We finally got a piece of the pie Fish don't fry in the kitchen Beans don't burn on the grill Took a whole lot of trying Just to get up that hill Now we're up in the big leagues Getting our turn at best
Starting point is 01:11:47 As long as we live It's you and me, baby Ain't nothing wrong with that We're moving on up To the east side To a deal of apartment In the sky We're moving on the road to
Starting point is 01:12:06 the east side We've got a piece of the pie That's a jam right there. So that's moving on up. He's redeeming himself this week. Until you find out he's never seen the show.
Starting point is 01:12:22 I've actually watched it. It's of course the show that I have seen is the song that this themed it was the Jeffersons great Norman Lear production spin off of All in the Family absolutely great iconic theme song
Starting point is 01:12:38 sung by Jeanette Dubois is that who sang that? any relation to Patty Dubois? I don't know who that is. Do you know the Dubois sisters? Do not. Aren't they Marge Simpson's sisters, the Dubois? They are.
Starting point is 01:12:51 Yeah. No, Bouvier. Bouvier. Because it's after JFK, after Jackie O. Who am I thinking of? Jackie O is me. Anyway, no relation. Dubois.
Starting point is 01:12:58 Dubois. Oh, you're saying a Blanche Dubois. Blanche Dubois. From Streetcar Named Marge. From Streetcar Named Marge. Blanche Dubois. Stella! Yes, thank you. Can't you hearamed Marge. From Streetcar Named Marge. Blanche Dubois. Stella! Yes, thank you.
Starting point is 01:13:06 Can't you hear me yell? You're putting me through hell, Stella. Stella! No. See? Nothing. I opened with some Alex Trebek on Simpsons, and that Streetcar Named Marge with the Apu performance,
Starting point is 01:13:21 that is one of the classic Simpsons shows. Okay, continue. Probably Age Well. No, nothing with Apuu performance. That is one of the classic Simpsons shows. Okay, continue. Probably some age well. No, any nothing with Apu age as well. Anyway, I'll say no relation, but yeah, some relations to Jimmy Walker. Dino Mike! Because Jeanette Dubois, who you heard sing that song,
Starting point is 01:13:37 was a regular on Good Times. Yes, Dino Mike. Yeah, and she was also, once the MTV age started, she also made the transition. Was seen in a very famous music video at the time, mid-80s. She played Janet Jackson's mom in the video for Control.
Starting point is 01:13:54 Oh! There's a fun fact. There's a little mind-blow for you. It's pretty fun. It's Jackson. Now, that song, the main song you heard was Dubois with a gospel choir. There was also a cover version that appeared. Did not chart, but Sammy Davis Jr. And you didn't send this to me.
Starting point is 01:14:11 Did not send it to me. I probably should have. Sorry, sung by Janet Dubois, but that song was actually written by a guy named Jeff Barry. Here's the FOTM connection here. Is it Andy Kim? Yes. So Jeff Barry wrote, say thank you. Should I go on or do you want to take it? Well, it was a guess. I didn't know. No, kidding aside, that's a great guess. Cause yes, Jed, the same Jeff Barry wrote such 60s hits as Do Wah Diddy, sampled in a song.
Starting point is 01:14:41 I think it was like Dirty Jams Did You Run Run by I forget if that was like just Shirelles or whoever that was Somebody told me that his name was Did You Run Run
Starting point is 01:14:50 Yeah a couple songs by the Ronettes here Then He Kissed Me and Be My Baby These are big songs Great 60s songs And the Wall of Sound These have Phil Speckers
Starting point is 01:14:59 Yeah these are Phil Speckers Great 50s and 60s songs Chapel of Love and Sugar Sugar by the Archies. Fronted by FOTM. Andy Kim. The great Canadian Andy Kim. Wow. So the
Starting point is 01:15:11 Jeffersons was very famous. Had a lot of guest stars. Last week we talked about WKRP in Cincinnati. Had the late great Sparky Anderson on. Jeffersons had some sporting talent too. Mr. October. Reggie Jackson was on it. Who had a problematic tweet yesterday.
Starting point is 01:15:28 Reggie Jackson? What was it? It just sexualized a young woman. Not too young, but it just wasn't a classy tweet. Reggie, stay classy, Reggie. It's November now. Just focus on those Reggie bars. Joe Frazier.
Starting point is 01:15:43 Smoking Joe Frazier. Made an appearance. I remember a big, big part of my youth, Edie McClurg. Oh, from Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Ferris Bueller's, yeah. He's a righteous dude. And on WKRP, she was married to Herb Tarlick.
Starting point is 01:15:58 Was she really? Yes, that was Herb Tarlick's wife on WKRP. I feel like she was the next door neighbor in the Hogan family too. Oh, she made the rounds in the 80s. She was everywhere. And I remember feeling very sorry for her because Herb was very public about his affection I feel like she was the next door neighbor in the Hogan family too. Oh, maybe she made the rounds in the 80s. She was everywhere. And I remember feeling very sorry for her because Herb was very public about his affection for Jennifer Marlowe.
Starting point is 01:16:11 But Herb was married. Meanwhile. Meanwhile. Like this was, you know, Mad Men. Well, do you remember who had an album or no,
Starting point is 01:16:18 a single called the Tarlicks? FOTM here. I don't know, but there was Aaron Davis and Don Daynard ads for CHFI where Herb Tarlick was in them. That's right. There's your connection. Anyway late period right before they broke up for the first time single by the Rea Statics called the
Starting point is 01:16:34 Tarlicks. Wow. Do you remember that? Davidini. Don't remember. Anyway three more people who showed up on the show. Charo Oh yeah from Love Boat Yeah Hollywood Squares Sure. Gary Coleman Oh yeah. He also had a great memorable Picharro. Oh, yeah, from Love Boat. Yeah, Hollywood Squares. Sure, sure. Gary Coleman. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 01:16:47 He also had a great memorable Simpsons cameo. Yeah, and here's a mind blow. Final Seasons of the Jefferson. Uncredited cameo from Donald J. Trump. I'm glad I'm sitting down for this. That is true. So Trump makes an uncredited cameo. Is he evicting him from the place?
Starting point is 01:17:04 Well, he made an uncredited cameo. Oh, yeah, he doesn't like people of color. That is true. So Trump makes an uncredited cameo. Is he evicting him from the place? Well, he made an uncredited cameo. Oh yeah, he doesn't like people of color in his apartment complex. Well, this is not a card. This is actually in Atlantic City. I think it's more than a card. Trump made an uncredited cameo in an episode in which George Jefferson and their maid, Florence, go to Atlantic City.
Starting point is 01:17:20 Oh yeah, he bankrupted those casinos. How about when... Also, WrestleMania 4? How about about Sherman Helmsley appeared in a movie with Hulk Hogan was it Mr. Nanny one of them of course he was in the show Amen
Starting point is 01:17:34 that was a good show 227 was the show that gave us future Oscar winner was in 227 an actress whose name will come to me in a minute. She's such a big deal.
Starting point is 01:17:49 Yeah, she's a big fucking deal. She just won Best Supporting Actress, and I don't know why her name's not on top of mine. But I'm going to find out the 227 actress, the young 227 actress who has won an Oscar. Alright, do that. You guys say something. Something. Anyway, the Jeffersons, Donald J. Trump.
Starting point is 01:18:06 The Jefferson Starships. Jeffersons? That's right. Jefferson Airplane. Jefferson Airplane. Regina King, of course, is her name. Oh. She was in 227.
Starting point is 01:18:14 Very good. And Jack A. Jack A. I love Jack A. Still do. She's cool. Let's not lie to her. Good Twitter follow.
Starting point is 01:18:21 Sexy. Is it my turn? It's your turn. I love that choice there, Cam. Thank you. I it my turn? It's your turn. I love that choice there, Cam. Thank you. I want to give you some props for that. As far as I'm concerned, you're three for three today. Cam was listing off a laundry list of really great 50s and 60s songs in his last little anecdote there.
Starting point is 01:18:37 I figured maybe I would play a classic TV theme from the 50s and 60s since they weren't really represented. Now, I could have picked the Flintstones. Stewstone with a cold open. Flintstones should have been picked because that's a great song. We're not done yet. How do you know
Starting point is 01:18:49 it's not coming? I'm guessing it's not coming. Fine. But you know a lot of great shows. Happy Days is not the 60s but it took place in the 60s.
Starting point is 01:18:57 No it's the 70s. But it took place in the 60s. It takes place in the 50s. You know MASH takes place in the 70s. I don't know what I'm getting at here. No it took place in the 50s. Okay good. MASH takes place in the 70s. I don't know what I'm getting at here. No, it took place in the 50s.
Starting point is 01:19:07 Okay, good. But it's from the 70s. My point is, I've got a show. Suicide is painless. I've got a show for you. Here we go. You recognize this at all guys is this the honeymoon
Starting point is 01:19:28 don't say it if you're looking at the title Mike this is for Cam then there's a point to this Mike what a classic show my two dads it's the classic show. My two dads. It's the classic show right here. It's the classic tune. All right, let's talk about this, okay?
Starting point is 01:19:59 Cam has no idea what that is. You can turn it off for a second here, Mike. You can kill it. I feel like we're getting worked. You are, a little bit. This shows you the importance, Mike and Cam, of a good TV theme. Because that song right there
Starting point is 01:20:14 was the original theme song for a show that would have gone away had they not made the decision that that song was not memorable and quite shit. They flipped it up and went with a different theme and the show took off as a result of having such a memorable theme. Cam, you may have not recognized the original, but this is what they went with in the end.
Starting point is 01:20:39 Big difference. Big fucking difference. You know this song? I mean, I... It's I Dream of Jeannie. It is. I Dream of Jeannie, ladies and gentlemen. Barbara Eden, 2,000-year-old Jeannie.
Starting point is 01:20:56 Larry Hagman, Dallas. Shout out to Dallas, one of the greatest themes of all television. J.R. Ewing. Let's just say J.R. Smith. Larry Hagman plays an astronaut who becomes the master of a sultry genie by the name of Genie. Who never showed her belly button. Barbara Eden as Genie. That's true.
Starting point is 01:21:15 Maybe that was too sexual or too risque. Of course, the original song was a piece of shit, so they switched it up. It was a piece of shit. It's in Larry Hagman's words. Really, really exciting stuff. You know, the show was on... You know, Gilligan's Island is another show that had a pretty good theme song.
Starting point is 01:21:33 Remember, we're doing a part three. Gilligan's Island is another example of a show that had a shit theme song, and they switched it up to the Gilligan's song that we know. Maybe you should save this for part three. Well, I Dream of Jeannie is a perfect example of a show that was rescued by a good theme, memorable theme song.
Starting point is 01:21:52 Now, I'm going to blow your mind here, Cam. Okay. You know, Weird Al was dominating the charts with parody songs, right? Sure. But there was somebody who infringed on his lane back in 1990 when this song, a parody song, took hold of some radio airplay. See if you remember this one. Is this Tom Steiner? Yes. I am sitting on the sofa.
Starting point is 01:22:37 There's a TV in the corner. I am watching Major Nelson. He is played by Larry Hagman. Genie! And he found a little bottle. Okay. This was a I Dream of Genie Tom Steiner parody
Starting point is 01:22:49 that was played. I had the cassette single for it. There was a music video that got a lot of airplay. Who's he? I've never heard this. I've never heard of you. Mark Jonathan Davis.
Starting point is 01:23:01 From Korn. Yes. So, yeah, not that exciting here. And he's a pitcher, right? Mark Dillia won the Cyan Wars. Yes. So, yeah, not that exciting here. And he's a pitcher, right? Mark Dillier won the Cy Young Award. But I will tell you, that may not be the most memorable use of I Dream of Jeannie. But maybe this will make up for that.
Starting point is 01:23:30 Big mind blows today Stu's not fucking around First single For Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince. Of course. Most people think it's Parents Just Don't Understand. They would be surprised to know it's actually Girls of the World Ain't Nothing But Trouble. Wow. And then Jazzy Jeff worked on Deep, Deep Trouble, the Simpsons song.
Starting point is 01:24:00 Did he? Okay. Yeah. Really? You know this song, Kim? Yes. Yes, definitely. Wow. There, definitely. Wow.
Starting point is 01:24:05 There you go. And this young man, Will Smith, did anything become of him? Well, he ended up having a kid named Jaden Smith who was played recently in our Offspring episode. Oh, and my daughter Michelle. Who's Michelle? Michelle. She's inside right now. I'll bring her out to tell you about the day she met Will and Jaden Smith.
Starting point is 01:24:23 Wow. Did she have a seat at the red table and hash it out? Yeah. I'll give her a mic. There's the red table right there. I'm talking about the show. Jada Pinkett has that show, The Red Table. I thought you were talking about The Red Table.
Starting point is 01:24:35 Yeah, yeah. You know when Will Smith, the entanglement and all that, that all happened on that show, The Red Table. Oh, I didn't know that. Kirkland version over there. Great. Mind blows today, Stuart. Okay, let me gently fade out over there. Uh, great. Mind blows today, Stuart.
Starting point is 01:24:45 Okay. Let me gently fade out of there. That's fantastic. Okay. So gently we go. I'm kind of can con heavy today, which is, uh,
Starting point is 01:24:53 I like to be you guys ready. Yeah. Oh, didn't we talk about this last week? Great song though. Possibly. We didn't play it though. It's a good one.
Starting point is 01:25:07 I'd like to see them do this live. Seems like it would tear the house down. I saw it on New Year's Eve. Yeah, tell us again. This is a good time for you to share that story again. Yeah, someone suggested this. This is, of course, the theme to the kids in the hall shadowy men on a shadowy place toronto's own having an average weekend um yeah i actually saw them it was the last time i guess i spent new year's eve in public
Starting point is 01:25:35 um shadowy men or what's left of them open for the sadies i like the sadies yeah they opened at the horseshoe tavern uh dallas good uh from the sadies he's guesting in for the three-piece one of the members of shadowy men died reed diamond men many years ago um yeah and i i tweeted i actually tweeted out a video of them playing the song at the horseshoe tavern on new year's eve about just over two years ago. And it is fucking great. It sounds exactly like this. Very musical. They formed in 84. They won a junior award.
Starting point is 01:26:10 Who is it that plays the song? Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet. And there's a fun story I was reading about how people were kind of putting them in the surf rock bucket. Surf rock. And they were adamant that they were not surf rock.
Starting point is 01:26:24 And I think they recorded a song called we're not fucking surf rock or something like that i kind of like have this memory of like the first time i was ever exposed to like humor that was done tastefully in like involving sexuality and stuff like that was all like from this show am i crazy to think that like they opened up my eyes to like that's about about right. Sort of an introduction to, you know, uh, you know, heterosexuality is not the only thing going on.
Starting point is 01:26:49 Well, I won't, uh, I won't, I won't quote it. Kids in the hall, right? Kids in the hall.
Starting point is 01:26:54 Uh, but I distinctly, I still remember a hilarious skit called the running F word. It was called the running F word. F word being, uh, the homophobic slur. But this was Scottpson who is a proud
Starting point is 01:27:07 gay man who was playing this character anyway it's just some of the stuff that uh you'd see i love the show i watched it it was a buddy cole buddy cole yeah and i i never yeah but you're right the french canadian you're thinking of the the yeah there's that whole universe with buddy Cole the French Canadian I can see the guy from news radio hold on Dave Foley playing a character anyway just the whole the whole show I found it hilarious and very cutting-edge and risque and I would tune in every week and I just loved I just
Starting point is 01:27:39 like I think like what I meant was when when I grew up you know you saw Saturday Night Live and some of these other shows homosexuality specifically was often the punchline of the joke. And I feel like on Kids in the Hall, it was the opposite. The joke was they were the one delivering the joke, not the punchline of the joke. I think you're right. I thought that was the first time I kind of was like, oh, that's great.
Starting point is 01:27:59 And I would be very subversive. Progressive. Yes, very progressive show and hilarious. I'm going to discard for that because... Progressive. Yes, very progressive show and hilarious. And of course, the Kitson Hall starred in a video featuring an FOTM, which is the odds that are featuring... Who is it? Craig Northey.
Starting point is 01:28:15 Yes, from the odds. And a member of the Kitson Hall is an FOTM. That's right. Kevin McDonald's been back here. Kevin McDonald's been in the basement, actually. Very good. He's great. Pre-p been back here. Kevin McDonald's been in the basement, actually. Very good. He's great. Pre-pandemic times. Good choice.
Starting point is 01:28:28 Yeah. So thank you, Kids in the Hall, because it really had a lot to do with, you know, I talk a lot about the Simpsons. Cam saw Brain Candy in the theater. I love Brain Candy. I think I did. And he had a poster. No, I love Brain Candy.
Starting point is 01:28:37 College dorm. I thought it was really underappreciated. Yeah. And the soundtrack I thought was interesting because it had both tragically hip, odds, and shadowy men, but also had pavement, Yola Tango, a lot of the Matador, Liz Fair was on there, so it was sort of like, you know,
Starting point is 01:28:54 these worlds colliding. Big brain candy guy. But you take kids in the hall, you throw in a little like a little David Letterman, some Simpsons, and now you're kind of shaping the sense of humor that I enjoyed. Okay, we alluded to this earlier. This is Cam Gordon's fourth jam.
Starting point is 01:29:12 There it is. We have a lunch bag lockdown after Fraggle Rock. That's okay. When your world looks kind of weird You wish that you were there Just close your eyes Don't make believe
Starting point is 01:29:30 And you can be anywhere I like adventure I like romance I tell great jokes I'm all done I've got my computer I've got blue hair I'm Mr. P.O.
Starting point is 01:29:43 And I got blue hair Ha! P.O. You're my P.O. P.O. P.O blue hair Is everything alright in there? Yes, Nani I've barely seen every episode of Muppet Bigger And that's June Cleaver, right? The mom? Is June Cleaver? Bonus fun fact, I did not know that yeah um just some bonus comments
Starting point is 01:30:08 before we get underway here from cambrio please bewitched once a year i assume that's he's very demanding well he got i dream of genie yeah which is yeah good enough there's also the british uh girl band bewitched do you remember them i assume he means the tv show oh it's like the letter b and then correct yeah uh He also wants your Gunsmoke and Rawhide. How old does he think we are? Well, how old is he? Cambrio is 80 years old. He is a man
Starting point is 01:30:34 who is very cultured. He knows pop culture since the beginning of pop culture. Big Lorne Green guy. He also said Heart Pomerantz guy. And Craig Northey did the Corner Gas the corner gas oh yes that's true and we discussed that when he was on toronto very good um so anyway enough about uh rawhide let's talk muppet babies we're here in the backyard it's november there's a pandemic and here's three
Starting point is 01:30:58 grown men sitting around talking about muppet babies um so this So this show had a good run. 1984 to 1981 on CBS. I finally do this every once in a while. They brought it back too. We'll get to that in a second. This guy is like... Scoop Scoop McGee. Yeah. So you guys are big Muppet Baby fans.
Starting point is 01:31:21 I was. I felt too old for it. Still am. That's fine. Although now I watch Teen Titans. I felt too old for it. Still am. Well. That's fine. Although now I watch Teen Titans. I don't think it holds up. I don't. It's probably not good.
Starting point is 01:31:30 But then it was good. Did you know. And the toys. The McDonald toys were great. Oh yeah. I heard about those. We'll talk about that in a minute. But did you know Stuart Stone.
Starting point is 01:31:37 That the mom on Muppet Babies. Of course. Yes. June Cleaver. Come on. Is this known? This was not. I think it was well known.
Starting point is 01:31:43 Everybody fucking knows that. The voice is exactly like. Exactly June Cleaver. Come on known? Yeah, I think it was well-known. The voice is exactly like exactly June Cleaver. Barbara Ballingsley, who also had a great cameo in Airplane, which I mentioned earlier because Robert Stack
Starting point is 01:31:52 was in that movie. Okay. Here's the word-for-word description of Muppet Babies from Wikipedia. Okay? You guys ready for this? I feel like we need some like...
Starting point is 01:32:01 I was born ready. You want some music? What do I got here? Give me like Summer of 42, like some melancholy. No. Why ready. You want some music? What do I got here? Give me like Summer of 42, like some melancholy. No. Why don't you just play the Muppet Babies theme? No, that would be too distracting. So the show portrays childhood versions of the Muppets
Starting point is 01:32:13 living together in a nursery under the care of a human woman. Yeah, Nanny. Shut the fuck up. What, is that a mind blow? I'm trying to do this for like dramatic effect. I'm going to cut your mic. Now go ahead.
Starting point is 01:32:30 The moment's gone. Fake news. Roll me a cookie. Come on. Fake news. Take your fucking cookies. I've eaten half the tray. Look at this.
Starting point is 01:32:35 You sure have. Throw me a chocolate while he talks. Yeah. Identified only as nanny. Okay. Nanny. Barbara Blink. Yes, nanny. Okay. Never mind. Let him finish. Never mind.anny. Barbara Blink. Yes, Nanny.
Starting point is 01:32:45 Okay. Never mind. Let him finish. No, please. He's reading Wikipedia. You guys have ruined it. Quiet, please, Stu. Anyway.
Starting point is 01:32:54 We'll just park that. I'm not going to fucking continue until you finish reading this fucking Wikipedia page. I'm not staring the camera. Okay, go ahead. The show portrayed childhood versions of the Muppets living together in a nursery under the care of a human woman identified only as nanny in brackets the whereabouts of the
Starting point is 01:33:10 parents is never addressed who appeared in almost every episode but her face was never visible no legs only stockings shut the fuck up only the baby's view of her pink skirt. Stockings. Purple sweater. Green stockings? Mike's having a moment over there. Green and white stockings? Distinctive green and white striped socks is shown. Nanny. Yes.
Starting point is 01:33:40 Whereabouts of the parents? Not addressed. Oh, that's interesting. I never thought of that. They just live at the nanny's house. Yeah. Also, it's a talking frog and a talking pig. Right.
Starting point is 01:33:53 Whatever Gonzo is. The idea of presenting... Stand by me. The idea of presenting the Muppets as children first appeared in a dream sequence in The Muppets Take Manhattan. Oh, that's right. Yes. Released two months before Muppet Babies first appeared in a dream sequence in The Muppets Take Manhattan. Oh, that's right. Yes.
Starting point is 01:34:10 Released two months before Muppet Babies debuted in which Miss Piggy imagined what it would be like if she and Kermit the Frog had grown up together. The Babies imaginary games transitioned from the nursery into scenes that became real to the babies. Often like a lot of pirate. Monster clips. Yeah, like a lot of pirates and like monsters and stuff. In the babies. Often like a lot of pirate monster clips. Yeah, like a lot of pirates and monsters and stuff. In the closet. They'd open up the closet and there would be
Starting point is 01:34:32 clips playing. That's right. It's like, oh. I never really thought of this, but this is very true. It's noted, Muppet Babies is noted for starting a trend of relaunching popular cartoon characters as younger versions of themselves. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:34:47 This trend can be seen on numerous, I'm going to say this. A pup named Scooby-Doo? This guy's killing me, Mike. Like, you got to cut this guy's mic. A pup named Scooby-Fucking-Doo. I can't believe, the Archies had like a little baby Archies? No. That's not on my list actually so you can just type down.
Starting point is 01:35:08 Flintstone Kids. Flintstone Kids. Yeah. Baby Felix. I don't know. Is that like Baby Felix? Sure. Yeah. Tiny Toons Adventure. The Tiny Toons. Yeah. Tom and Jerry Kids. Tom and Jerry Kids. Get out of town. About young Tom Cheek and Jerry Howard.
Starting point is 01:35:24 And something I don't remember, Jungle Cubs, which sounds... Problematic. I was going to say like a pornographic film, perhaps. But it's like the Jungle Book, but like, I guess, kids. I thought that was Tailspin. Oh, or Kissy Fur? Kissy Fur? No.
Starting point is 01:35:41 Tiger King? Tiger, anyway. Sparky Anderson? Anyway, that song was written by Robert Walsh. He was a music conductor. Tiger King? Tiger. Anyway. Sparky Anderson? Anyway, that song was written by Robert Walsh. He was a music conductor. Oh, Bob Walsh. And directed the Warner Brothers animation beginning in 1979. Always have to give a shout out to Smashing Pumpkins.
Starting point is 01:35:58 He actually worked directly with Fritz Freeling. Oh, wow. Remember that name you'd always see in the credits? Of course. Yes, of course. At the start. This gentleman also worked on other programs such as G.eling. Oh, wow. Remember that name you'd always see in the credits? Of course. Yes, of course. At the start. This gentleman also worked on other programs such as G.I. Joe, A Real American Hero.
Starting point is 01:36:10 One of the best songs ever. Transformers is great, too. Transformers. Save it for next week. My Little Pony and Friends. We're not doing TV shows for a third straight week. I could be talked into it. And this was a great theme song.
Starting point is 01:36:24 Jem. Jem is truly outrageous. Which version of Gem? Because there's Gem is truly outrageous. Truly, truly, truly outrageous. Yeah, what other ones? We are the misfits.
Starting point is 01:36:34 Our sounds are better. We are the misfits. It's all one, isn't it? No, but then there was me and my friends are Gem girls. I think that was more for like the toys.
Starting point is 01:36:41 Gem is my name. I don't know that one. Anyway, I was going to mention to We are the misfits. Our songs are better. We are the mis Anyway, I was going to mention to... I always thought it was like Misfits we heard like Where Angels Dare and stuff. We'd listen to
Starting point is 01:36:53 them. The Metallica version, not that Misfits. I was going to mention FOTM Retro Interior actually has a commercial for the Muppet Babies toys at McDonald's. They did it twice. There's a Christmas plush toy as well.
Starting point is 01:37:10 This is all covered on the Wikipedia page. And yes, this show was rebooted on the Disney Channel in 2018, March of that year. Yeah, you're supposed to say, you're supposed to do it like this, Cam. Muppet Babies, they had an ad for McDonald's. McDonald's? McDonald's presents. Oh, I forgot I saved the link. Did someone say presents? A present for me?
Starting point is 01:37:29 I once got a present. A special delivery. What are these fake Muppet voices? Fun little Muppet babies. Couldn't get the real guys. It's like Santa likes. McDonald's for 49 cents each plus tax. Like 49 cents.
Starting point is 01:37:40 Like that's incredible. There's Baby Kermit, Baby Miss Piggy, baby Fozzie Bear, and baby Gonzo. Fun to race, fun to collect. A different one each week. They're going fast. They're going fast. That's no joke. Wow.
Starting point is 01:37:53 Okay, serious. Hi-ho, Kermit the E-Var. That was a terrible Kermit, that guy. This is a serious question for Sue Stone. Yes. In theory, if someone had, like, mint-conditioned Kermit in the original package. I have that. How much?
Starting point is 01:38:09 Okay. We heard the commercial from, thank you, Retro Ontario, 49 cents. I have it. What would you say that would go for? Three bucks. Okay. I was just curious if that was like a big collectible. I have it still in the package.
Starting point is 01:38:23 I have all of them. I have all of them. There's only four. And there's also the four pl collectible. I have it still in the package. I have all of them. Have you learned nothing? None of it's worth anything. There's only four. And there's also the four plushies. I have those as well. Wow. Also in the package. In the package.
Starting point is 01:38:31 I have a fun fact. A fun fact. The Fozzie the Bear, the voice of Fozzie the Bear is the same as the voice of Yoda. That's my fun fact. They're both Frank Oz. Not on the cartoon though. Well, I don't know anything about the cartoon, but I mean the real Fozzie. That's not a mind blow.
Starting point is 01:38:44 No, I know. I'm just, for somebody out there, it's a mind blow. I don't think so about the cartoon, but I mean the real fuzz. That's not a mind blow. I know. For somebody out there, it's a mind blow. Not everyone's as dialed in as you. Can I do my Kermit the Frog impression? Yes. It was good. Hi-ho, Kermit the Frog here.
Starting point is 01:38:56 That's good. That's pretty good. I think it's good. Hi-ho, Kermit the Frog. Looks like John Tesh sounds like Kermit the Frog. I don't think that that's a very good Kermit.
Starting point is 01:39:03 Anyway. Hi-ho, Kermit the Frog here for Sesame Street News. Yeah. Well, I think Kams is better. Ho-gum. That's pretty good, too. Ho-gum. Are you ready for Stu Stone's sports jam?
Starting point is 01:39:15 Well, Norman Lear was already mentioned. Yeah, of course. He's still with us. He's still with us. Jefferson's. You know, he's still alive. He's like 180 years old or something. I heard him on Gilbert Gottfried's podcast.
Starting point is 01:39:25 He's still going. Yep. Active on Twitter. Here's another great song from a Norman Lear show. Funky! We are talking about Sanford and Son with the great Red Fox. A show about a guy who owns a trash,
Starting point is 01:40:15 like a trash heap, I guess, a trash dump. Junkyard. A junkyard. And he's always, every episode, he's got some sort of a get-rich-quick scheme that sort of flops in his face. Sort of like Three's Company, another great show.
Starting point is 01:40:30 It might have been from the Norman Lear family as well. I don't think so. Maybe not. My point is, though, each week there's some sort of misunderstanding on Three's Company. Each week on Samuelson, there's some sort of get-rich-quick scheme on Samuelson. There's some sort of get-rich-quick scheme that him and Lamont,
Starting point is 01:40:48 his son Lamont, is always trying to talk him out of doing. Blows up in their face, of course. Usually, you know, fakes that he's having a heart attack. Hilarity ensues. Here comes the big one. I'm coming. You know what I'm
Starting point is 01:41:04 talking about? Are you familiar know what I'm talking about? Are you familiar with what I'm talking about? Yeah. Yes. And he, on set for, I guess, whatever the show he made after this, on set, he died of a heart attack. Red Fox did. Like, while filming his next show, he had a heart attack and died. Do you remember what the wife's name was? Nobody?
Starting point is 01:41:26 I don't have a lot of Sanford and Son memories, actually. Elizabeth. Elizabeth, yes. Norman Lear, of course, all in the family. Sanford and Son, the Jeffersons. Maude. Of course. One day at a time.
Starting point is 01:41:39 Wow. Nice run. Schneider. Schneider was about the belt, that belt, the utility belt. Love it. What a memorable song Would you be surprised to know That the composer of this song Is Quincy Jones
Starting point is 01:41:53 How about that? That's a fun fact How about that? Yeah, I can see that Quincy Jones Mel Allen, yeah, that's a fun fact The great Quincy Jones You know what this song sounds like?
Starting point is 01:42:03 Who said it was a Henry Mancini baby elephant walk. Yep. And dancing Homer and other great Simpsons. Now, Quincy's version of the song, the full version, is called The Street Beater. Released by A&M Records on his 1973 album You've Got It Bad Girl. This was a single from that album. Sorry, this song?
Starting point is 01:42:30 This song. Okay. Did reach number 294 on the chart. Not bad. They don't count that high, do they? Although Rolling Stone,
Starting point is 01:42:37 who Cam quoted earlier, ranked this the ninth best television program It's funky as all hell. Yeah, it's a good song. It's a funky song. Now, there was a gentleman named Harry James, who is before our time, but a big band leader. Back in the heyday of big band, he took a real liking, and when he sort of dusted off his trumpet to come back on the scene,
Starting point is 01:42:59 this was the song he chose to come back as a big band artist in the late 70s. Which is kind of fun. It's so like late 70s. It's like touring in the 70s. Yes. What a time to be alive. Opening track. Yeah. Wow.
Starting point is 01:43:22 Hello. Hello. A lot of personality in these horns. Think about Wailing Sax. Woo. Did you guys see like some Twitter exchanges today that the people that don't like the sound of the saxophone, did you catch any of that with, yeah, a couple of FOTMs were kind of sharing that thought. This was like in the DM thread?
Starting point is 01:43:50 No, this was public Twitter. Robbie J was in there, and Jason Barr was in there. Just the sax in general? They hate the sound of the saxophone. Now, back to this. If you want to pull this one down. Last song I played for you was sampled by Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince. Now, this kind of blew my mind because I had no idea that this song even existed.
Starting point is 01:44:20 But check this out. I want two beef patties, special sauce, onions, tomatoes, lettuce, on a sesame seed bun. On a sesame seed bun, you big dummy. I want two beef patties with onions, special sauce, cheese, on a special sauce, sesame seed bun. With onions Special sauce Cheese On a special sauce Sesame seed bun The big dummy
Starting point is 01:44:52 I rock the mic and make the crowd say ho People if you ready to ride then let's go The older the wine the more vintage You familiar with this group? Is this a fat point? No I feel like I've heard this I didn't know about it but Are you familiar with this group? Is this a bad point? No. I feel like I've heard this. What I've heard?
Starting point is 01:45:07 I didn't know about it, but we can keep going until you guess. Oh, shit. Spank Rock? No, I'm going to let another rapper come in. own cheap j strong 44 long stay today's bath and what's your name bone the abba had his head reflecting off the chrome bank loan for a mil oprah hold me down like dr phil this is nap zap rap point joint gas my gas point at you now you can't point back penetrating skulls i'm digging holes like the mole it's like shit yeah okay that's rizza right there, Rapper. That's Wu-Tang Clan. No.
Starting point is 01:45:45 Yes. Yeah, that was ODB. ODB. Master Killer, the RZA. I had no idea that the Wu-Tang Clan did a song with the Sanford and Son theme until I researched this particular song for it. Wow. So Quincy Jones composed the song
Starting point is 01:45:59 and Wu-Tang Clan sampled it. How about that? When is this? I have no idea. I've never heard this. I'm not sure about this. But that's clearly RZA. Who was the first?
Starting point is 01:46:10 The first rapper was Mastakilla. Okay. And that's ODB. Sure. Yeah. Anyway. There you go. Wow.
Starting point is 01:46:24 Samford and Son Have you guys ever seen Red Fox do stand-up? Very funny Yeah He's like He can be like Filthy as hell
Starting point is 01:46:31 Alright That's the second McDonald's ad we aired In this episode Of course you can get Plush toys of Wu-Tang Clan Right Alright
Starting point is 01:46:40 I'm going I'm gonna go I'm gonna Let's face it I'm gonna keep my Can-Con street going here. Here's a jam. Shout out to Good Times, by the way.
Starting point is 01:46:48 Yeah. Here is a song that. What a Toronto jam this is. You ready? Sure. City Pulse News. Isn't this like from Rocky? Yeah.
Starting point is 01:47:03 But it's a different version. It's Maynard Ferguson. Canadian Maynard Ferguson recording the... Is this Gord Martineau? He was the main anchor for St. Paul's at Six. Shout out to Gord! We're not allowed to... We don't want to spoil anything.
Starting point is 01:47:19 Spoil away! Are you sure? Gord, baby! Gord fucking Martineau. Yes. F-O-T-M, Gord Martineau. Star of Faking a Murderer. Star of Faking a Murderer! I wasn't sure? Gord, baby! Gord fucking Martineau. Yes. F-O-T-M, Gord Martineau. Star of Faking a Murderer. Star of Faking a Murderer.
Starting point is 01:47:27 I wasn't sure that was public, but here it is. Still waiting on a tweet from Kim. Yeah. Got played. You know, and I work with people who are on City Pulse newscasts. That's right. Lauren Honigman, Peter Gross. One of the greatest Toronto Mic'd episodes
Starting point is 01:47:45 in the history of the world is the Ann Roszkowski episode. Oh, totally. I'd say that's a must listen for anyone in media. Sorry, Maynard Ferguson's Canadian? Are you sure?
Starting point is 01:47:56 Oh, maybe, maybe. I just thought he was, but maybe he's not. I think so. Hold on here. I'm not sure about that. You might be right. Yeah, he's Canadian.
Starting point is 01:48:05 Okay. Whenever you doubt me, I doubt myself. You might be right. Yeah, he's Canadian. Okay. Whenever you doubt me, I doubt myself. Yeah, I know. Because you have such integrity. Thank you. He's a Canadian jazz trumpeter and band leader. Very cool. I'm going to, let me see if I have any fun facts for everybody.
Starting point is 01:48:21 Well, the only fun fact, I have no fun facts here. But the fun fact is that Gord Martineau is in Faking a Murderer. And if anyone listening has not yet seen it on Hollywood Suite, not too late. Then you will end up in Ridley Funeral Home. Ridley Funeral Home. We'll get you the Toronto Mike discount, but you'll be there. That's for sure. Yeah, this was my news source for many, many years.
Starting point is 01:48:52 I feel like you would not hear a song this upbeat soundtracking a 6 o'clock news broadcast in the year 2020. If you got a little space heater that could go on the floor that just heats our feet, that would be good. Let me work. Look, if I'm lucky enough. My feet are really cold. Cam's lying if he says otherwise.
Starting point is 01:49:09 I'm actually totally fine, but maybe I have just a better line to your heater here. Because I'm frigid. Okay, look. I'm flaccid. Let me see what I can do. Monica and I will come up with some solution here. Because I will say this is my opportunity to say this. Possibly.
Starting point is 01:49:25 Anything's possible. Here's the mind blow for the FOTMs here. What you were about to say. Feels like a big reveal. Does it include another heater? I was wondering what you were going to reveal. No, I will say that this episode in person
Starting point is 01:49:41 I find this just so much more fun and full of energy. Of course, visceral. I will do what it takes to keep these in person because of how much more pleasurable it is. It starts with a space heater on the ground. You need to light a fire under Stu's ass. I can get an extension cord.
Starting point is 01:49:59 It's right here on the ground and just the heat will rise on us under the table. Rise up, rise up. Okay, I will put the wheels in motion. Like one of these long space heaters. Because I have a small one right now. That's not going to cut it. You take the small one and give us
Starting point is 01:50:13 that one. Okay, yeah, maybe that's the answer. Get this nice and close to you guys. Could you get like a cedar log delivery service? That would be okay. Ben Rayner wants to start a fire back here anyway. Well, we didn't start the fire. I'm down for sponsor? Ben Rayner wants to start a fire back here anyway. Well, we didn't start the fire. I'm down for that.
Starting point is 01:50:27 Ben, do you want to have a fire with me? Yeah. That song ripped off R.E.M., right? Because that's the same spirit as End of the World. Yeah, almost like scatting. I don't think Billy Joel is a rip-off artist. Well, if you think about it, what does Michael Stipe do in It's the End of the World? He starts Leonard Bernstein.
Starting point is 01:50:43 And what does Billy Joel do in We Didn't Start the Fire? JFK blown away, what else do I have to say? We didn't start the fire. I don't know. I think Ariana did it better. Is that a good song? Like We Didn't Start the Fire? I don't like We Didn't Start the Fire.
Starting point is 01:50:56 I think it was a popular song for people to memorize the words to. And if you're a boomer, maybe it brought back like some nostalgia or something, right? Because we, you know, like Mad Men. It's fun to hear about JFK and Marilyn Monroe. It might be like the 90s version of it. I'm going to let him big finish, and then we're going to kick out a big jam from Cam. And I have a preface before I
Starting point is 01:51:16 kick this out. You both sent in this jam. By the way, last week we also both had the same song, and I gave it to Cam. This week we both had the same song, and I gave it to Cam. Because, you know, if there's one thing that I do, and I gave it to Cam. This week we both have the same song and I gave it to Cam. Because you know what? There's one thing that I do. That's give it to Cam.
Starting point is 01:51:30 Ay! You know what? We're going to share this. Cam's going to kick out the jam but Stu has the mind blow. Oh. You ready? Ha ha ha ha! Oh, you run with this season.
Starting point is 01:52:01 Is this your number one? Well, Ken, like, they're not ranked. Well, I mean, it's the last song you're playing. This is your number one? We're getting like, they're not ranked. Bro, I mean, it's the last song you're playing. This is your number one? Yeah. I'm not complaining. It's a great fucking song. Relax, bro.
Starting point is 01:52:11 You did good. Jason Priestley lives a lot of the time in Toronto because he films the show Private Eyes here, which is based on the books written by FOTM. Beverly Hills 90210, of course, is the show, right? Gare Joyce. Gare Joyce. Yes, this is 90210.
Starting point is 01:52:29 Beverly Hills 90210. How's Gare Joyce doing? He moved to Kingston. Really? He's very immune compromised. Is that the terminology? And so he moved to Kingston to hunker down until this thing blows over.
Starting point is 01:52:42 Good for him. Yeah. He's like a talented guy. He really is. If you're going to do a thing like talent compared to fame ratio thing, there's a biggest gap for Gare Joyce. And I feel like just
Starting point is 01:52:55 unfairly unknown. You guys should shut up for a second. Beautiful. Sorry, go ahead. Okay, bring the fun facts to Ken Gordon. Glad to hear Gary Joyce is doing well. Of course, that's a theme to Beverly Hills 90210. Wow. Iconic show. Big deal.
Starting point is 01:53:18 Iconic show. That show debuted in October 1990, 30 years ago. Wow. Can you imagine? Wow. Darren Starr brought us that one. Shout out to Joey Tata. Joey Tata, yeah, Nat.
Starting point is 01:53:30 Carol Potter, James Eckhouse, the adults on the show. Hey, how you doing, Brando? You doing okay? The peach pit, right? Hey, Nat, how are you, Nat? Chill out, Brando. Hey, what's the problem? Audrey.
Starting point is 01:53:41 Brenda, come on. Here's Cam's random 90210 anecdote. I probably mentioned before I worked at Candice Wonderland for a while in the 19th, several summers. I don't know what it was. At least two or three years I worked there, they would have 90210 day and Ian Zaring was
Starting point is 01:53:58 always there signing autographs. Nato's own. Big lines for Ian Zaring. Steve Sanders. He was there from day one to the last Wow. Steve Sanders. Steve Sanders, yeah. He was there from day one to the last day. Probably the worst guy on the show. Well, you know who was- Tori Spelling.
Starting point is 01:54:12 I was going to say- She was okay. She only got the gig. I don't know how- She was good, though. Donna Martin graduates. Yeah, but her boyfriend on the show- David.
Starting point is 01:54:21 David Silver. David Silver. Stu and I went to school with a David Silver. We did. Was married to Megan Fox. Yes. Not the David Silver. We're talking about the notorious B.A.G. Brian Austin Green. Right. Who was married to Megan Fox. And he did like a drug.
Starting point is 01:54:36 Like he had a drug overdose. It wasn't it was like euphoria. Euphoria. Yeah. I watched this show. You had to take the egg to get the direction to the ring. Oh my God, yeah. I mean, I don't want to steal your thunder, but are you going to talk about, is it Scott? What was the name of the kid?
Starting point is 01:54:50 Scott died. Yeah. Ridley Funeral Home. Really early, right? Scott shot himself. In season one. Cowboy had Scott. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:54:55 But like really sort of predated kids with guns. This guy had like a gun thing. Yeah. And he shot himself and died. That's right. And it was a big deal in season one. And all of a sudden everyone was nice to him. And then Brian was like, you didn't even like a gun thing. Yeah. And he shot himself and died. It was a big deal. Season one. And all of a sudden everyone was nice to him. And then Brian was like,
Starting point is 01:55:07 you didn't even like him. Right. And he did like a confessional on the morning announcements. But do you want, wait, do I know the irony? Yeah. Scott,
Starting point is 01:55:14 the truth is this guy's killing me. Let's do chill. Cause this could be relatable. So Brian Austin green, David silver did the morning announcements, a West Beverly high. Do you remember who did the announcements at Thornley Secondary School? The
Starting point is 01:55:29 David Silver. Oh, wow. Really? That's inside baseball there. Brian Austin Green was a character where he started as a nerd. And they made him a hunky, cool guy. So cool. They totally changed that character. I feel. And he of course he famously took
Starting point is 01:55:46 the virginity of what was Tori Spelling's name again? Donna Martin graduates. Donna Martin. Right. Okay. Similar to All the Way
Starting point is 01:55:53 with Stephanie Cage. Valerie how about when Tiffany Amber showed up on the scene? Oh yeah. And she was smoking in the window. Saved by the Bell
Starting point is 01:55:58 great show by the way. I love Saved by the Bell. They're bringing back a reboot of that. Not looking forward to that. Sands Dustin Diamond of course. Problematic. Problematic. That's problematic. I actually forward to that. Sans Dustin Diamond, of course. Problematic.
Starting point is 01:56:05 Problematic. That's problematic. I actually went to see him play at Yuck Yucks. Dustin Diamond? Dustin Diamond. Any relation to Mike Diamond of the Beastie Boys? Shout out to Dustin Revin. Luckily, no.
Starting point is 01:56:18 Couple of fun facts really quickly about this. The composer of this song is a guy named John E. Davis. Any relation to Joe E. Tata? Oh, my God. John E. Davis. Any relation to Joe E. Tata? Oh, my God. This is going to be a good episode. This is a bit hard to deal with. Isn't there a current Blue Jay named Jonathan Davis? Yes, I tried to make that joke earlier,
Starting point is 01:56:36 and then you thought I was talking about Mark Davis, so I let it go. Okay, right over his head. Anyway, this guy, Johnny Davis. Not Johnny Davis, John E. Davis. Not Johnny Davis. John Davis. Like Joey Tata. Is there something coming with Joey Tata? Like David E. Kelly.
Starting point is 01:56:50 Am I shitting on some Joey Tata thing that you have set up here? There's no Tata stuff coming up. I'm just saying for such an iconic theme song, this guy, Johnny Davis, at least based on his IMDb page, did very little. One and done? The only other credit he has was the reboot of Mission Impossible from 1988.
Starting point is 01:57:09 That's not even the one with U2. I looked, there was not even any notable actors in it that you would have known. But that's an iconic theme song. It's very memorable. This will go into a nice mind blow that Stu reminded me of. One more fun fact about this one. They
Starting point is 01:57:25 rebooted 90210 a few years ago. Now this is not the new class. This is the one with I think it was just called 90210 with the original characters. Oh, the kid from The Wire was in it. No, but they play themselves. Like, Ian Ziering plays Ian Ziering. Yes. Yeah, it's what Stu's describing.
Starting point is 01:57:42 Oh, that was last year. Yeah, it was like meta. Meta as fuck. I watched the first episode, yeah. Because there was another's describing. Oh, that was last year. Yeah, it was like meta, meta as fuck. I watched the first episode, yeah. Yeah, because there was another version like six years ago that had someone from like Degrassi. That's the one. Yeah, Sinead Grimes. Yes, and the guy Mike from The Wire.
Starting point is 01:57:55 That's right. Brenda was on it too. Michael from The Wire. So anyway, when the one two years ago, that's the characters as adults, when that debuted, there's actually a detailed interview in Variety magazine
Starting point is 01:58:06 about this theme song. Okay. And 80% of it is about the punch, punch part and how he added that and without that punch part, there was nothing
Starting point is 01:58:14 and he stood up all night. He's like, this song needs to flourish. This show was canceled, sadly, but that show you're describing, which was very meta, they play themselves
Starting point is 01:58:22 and whatever. Luke Perry refused to participate, as I recall. Luke didn't want to do it. but then he ends up showing up. was very meta, they play themselves and whatever. Luke Perry refused to participate, as I recall. Like Luke didn't want to do it. But then he ends up showing up. Oh no, then he dies. He dies.
Starting point is 01:58:30 Because he's on Riverdale. Yeah, they acknowledge, they acknowledge it on the show that he died. But he opted out of participating in that. Well, you know, his son is a professional wrestler, Jungle Boy in AEW. Is that right?
Starting point is 01:58:42 Yeah. Is that true? True. That's the funnest fact I've heard in a long time. Jungle Boy, Jack Perry. Jungle Boy. Luke Perry, who, by the way, is also known, and Simpsons fans call him Sideshow Luke Perry.
Starting point is 01:58:51 Yes. Okay. Who's Shark Boy? Shark Boy, different boy. So Luke Perry has a child who's a professional wrestler? Yes. Jungle Boy. What?
Starting point is 01:59:02 AEW wrestler, Jungle Boy. Luke Perry was in a movie when he died? Luke Perry was in a show called Riverdale. Was he in that movie? I think it was called Once Upon a Time in Hollywood? Yes. Tarantino. It's amazing. It's fucking amazing. He's in that.
Starting point is 01:59:16 I didn't love it. I saw it on the airplane. I loved it and watched it like five times. So he was in that too? Yes. Along with Growing Pains is Leo DiCaprio. I would say that if you appeared on 90210, you're pretty much a legend. Okay. Time for your mind blow. And that's your Scott because nobody even knows his name.
Starting point is 01:59:33 Well, you know. It's like 30 years later. We're still talking about him, so he's clearly. And Audrey, I didn't do a lot. Where's Audrey Zuckerman? She's like the head of the practice of SAG. Okay, sorry. She's a big fucking deal.
Starting point is 01:59:44 Gabriella Carteris. Yes, that's Yeah, she's a big fucking deal. Gabriela Carteris. Yes, that's right. I apologize. Here's a little mind blow. She's like 70, though. She was older, that's right. Yeah, she was like in her 30s. But Luke was older, too.
Starting point is 01:59:53 Luke Perry was older, wasn't he? I've been there, guys. A 32-year-old high school kid? It happens. I bet. Could you play a high school kid? I have recently. When I was 34 years old, I played a high school student.
Starting point is 02:00:02 Is that recently? And Misha Barton played my teacher. Oh, my God. And she's like 24, and I was 34 years old I played a high school student is that reason Misha Barton played my my teacher oh my god oh my god what you say Oh see that what where can we see this you can see it it's called resurrection a horror film with Michael Clarke Duncan Oh Misha Misha passed away right yes yes from the Armageddon yes and a In the Green Mile. Yes. Okay. Sad to hear you pass away. Here's the quick mind blow. I play a high school student. Cam, do you recognize this song?
Starting point is 02:00:40 It's not Queens, right? Well, you might not recognize it because this was the original theme to 90210. It's not bad. That was replaced with the... Punch, punch. Obviously, the show was shit with this. Well, they pulled an I Dream of Jeannie. Yeah. This isn't bad.
Starting point is 02:00:59 It's not good either. Well, it's not memorable. It just sounds like Saved by the Bell, the college years in between scenes interstitial. I like that song. It's like an open source,, it's not memorable. It just sounds like Saved by the Bell, the college years in between scenes interstitial. I like that song. It's like an open source, like the primetime sports theme. Like rights-free music. Rights-free music.
Starting point is 02:01:12 Royalty-free. That's not the only mind blow here, guys. Oh. What else you got? Kim, come on, man. How disrespectful can you be? Is there any FOTMs that were ever on 90210? Oh, I can do this.
Starting point is 02:01:25 Steven Page. How about Stu Stone? No. Look it up, you pricks. I swear on my life. On my life to God. I was on Beverly Hills. Is he fucking with us?
Starting point is 02:01:36 Look it up. You have a computer in front of you. Why would I make that up? I've never lied to the listeners, and I will not start now. What episode? When David Silber gets fired from his job at the Urban Outfitters because he's too busy talking to me.
Starting point is 02:01:53 And who are you? I play a customer. He's credited. Yes, Stew Stone. Okay, Stew Stone is in an episode. Why would I lie about that? I don't want to say you're lying. Son of a bitch.
Starting point is 02:02:05 This is amazing. The episode's called Friends Indeed. Friends Indeed. He plays Kid. I played Kid. You're Kid. Yes. You were Kid.
Starting point is 02:02:14 Yes. And it was, yeah, it's the credit just before the Magic School Bus. Right before Magic School Bus, 90210. And right after Rescuers, Stories of Courage, 210. Okay. It would have been in the 90s okay okay chill
Starting point is 02:02:26 okay I thought that you were like just leading up to this whole Stu was on 90210 we didn't do our homework no I was like oh there's a Variety Magazine
Starting point is 02:02:33 article there is a Variety Magazine I'm a kid but if I may if I may guys Bare Naked Ladies Bare Naked Ladies
Starting point is 02:02:41 played Peach Pit After Dark they did therefore Steven Page and and Tyler Stewart and Stu Stone. Yes. You've got three 90210. Three FOTMs have been on 90210. Yes.
Starting point is 02:02:53 And if people actually didn't turn off the show and made it this far into the broadcast, their mind is blown. My cast, you have a serious question. Yeah, of course. Have you had many actors here? No. Very few. Hardly any. No. I had very, of course. Have you had many actors here? No, very few.
Starting point is 02:03:05 Like hardly any. No, I had a very, very few. I was pitched a woman who I had on because she was the mean nanny in Working Moms. And it turns out she's in the very early scene of The Boys, season one, episode one, where she gets obliterated by some guy who's running a million miles an hour and obliterates her. And this is like a really like
Starting point is 02:03:25 big popular scene that opens up the boys and that's her but no i haven't had many dude do i i i have actually have a boys anecdote uh go ahead because dan duran who's almost not quite an fotm but uh we're friendly and he's going to be an fotm and uh does a lot of stuff a humble and he's a he plays a character in this is the most boring Cam underscore Gordon anecdote ever. More boring than the Alan Cross and the other whatever the fuck that was. Stu is literally going to break the remainder of these cookies over my head. I like that. So I recently bought some furniture from Ikea.
Starting point is 02:03:57 Jesus Christ. I know Ikea. Ikea. Me and MF didn't want paper. We got TaskRabbit in. You bought it together? Why? Because it was just complex.
Starting point is 02:04:08 It was like a dresser. The guy who came to put it together did a great job. That was Joey Teta. But no, we were just talking to him. It's like, oh, is this kind of a side gig for you? He's like, oh, I'm actually an actor. I've been in a couple episodes of The Boys. Okay, that's it.
Starting point is 02:04:23 That's it. Guess who my guest is on Monday? Joey Tata. Joey fucking Jeremiah. Oh, wow. We owe Cam all the credit. I don't know if he'll remember me, but definitely say hello. I'll see
Starting point is 02:04:41 probe on this favor I ask him. That's my first question. To what do I owe this honor? I ask him. It's going to be my first question. That's my first question is, to what do I owe this honor? I met him at a trivia contest one night. I met him in 1989 when I was managing a game booth at the C&E and I let him play for free. Yes. Who is he with?
Starting point is 02:04:57 He was, I don't know. I don't know who he's with, but he was with a bunch of dudes at the C&E. You wheeled a snake. I got my second question will be, let's talk about Neil Hope wheels. That's a sad fucking story. Are you ready for your last jam too?
Starting point is 02:05:10 I want to give a shout out to Cam Gordon. Yeah? Because he did a good job this week. Thank you. He picked some formidable tunes.
Starting point is 02:05:19 90210, a great jam and I know that Cam is an expert. He's seen many episodes of the show. Obviously not the key episode. I'd say less than you'd think.
Starting point is 02:05:29 Well, he hasn't seen the episode when Brian Austin Green lost his job. I did see when Scott blew his head off. But you did see when Scott blew his head off. Right. Who's Jonesy? Dylan hires a private eye. Jonesy, do you remember this guy? Yes, yes. He was in Mexico. It's time for me to plug Do you remember this guy? Yes, yes.
Starting point is 02:05:45 He was in Mexico. It's time for me to plug a new Stew Stone project. Oh, wow. Wow. Yes. You're in the 90210 reboot. In January of 2021. I'm nervous.
Starting point is 02:05:55 There is a new series that is going to be coming on in Canada with regards to the great game shows of Canada. Okay. I don't know if you saw season one, but they're doing season two. And one of the talking heads on the season two is yours truly, Stu Stone. Wasn't Ed Conroy involved in this?
Starting point is 02:06:13 No. You know who you're thinking of? Stephen Page. There you go. Okay. Oh, shit. Yes. Was it Wiseblood who recommended him or Conroy?
Starting point is 02:06:23 I think it was Wiseblood, but the bottom line is I've seen a clip from this show where Stephen Page talks about being on bumper stuff. That's right. So it's like that except me. Wow. And one of the shows that I talk about is the theme song for a game show that I chose as my song.
Starting point is 02:06:39 Oh, I know what this is. Oh. Okay, it's on. Oh, I know what this is. Oh, okay. It's on. It feels like Austin Powers here. Of course, the show is called Definition.
Starting point is 02:07:09 Canadian game show. I didn't realize it was only a Canadian game show. Canadian game show Definition. Is it Jim Perry? Luke Perry's older brother? It could be, actually. It ran from 1974 to 1989. One of the longest running shows of all time.
Starting point is 02:07:30 And it emanated from CFTO Television Studios in Scarborough, Ontario. Where Uncle Bobby was. I was going to say, Uncle Bobby was back in the Airstream trailer with all the moms. Yes, absolutely. Jim Perry.
Starting point is 02:07:45 Impossible relation to Jim Perry. Impossible relation to Luke Perry. I don't know. Well, William Perry. The fridge. Nick Nicholson. Oh. And Roger Muir, the creators of the newlywed game, came up with definition,
Starting point is 02:07:59 which is sort of like a Wheel of Fortune meets Hangman. You know, they'd have like a sort of a hangman puzzle and then you'd have to like give clues to the words and the letters and it's pretty basic popular show uh that uh was as popular as concentration and the price is right perry became a household name during the 70s and 80s but i'll have you know sadly today only a handful of episodes still exist due to a then common practice that Retro Ontario may know about
Starting point is 02:08:30 yes you know what it's called they re-recorded over the tapes they re-recorded over the tapes like it's crazy it's called wiping they would wipe the tapes and hence there's only very few episodes that are even still available to view. That's unbelievable.
Starting point is 02:08:49 Definition has encouraged viewers to send in their own puzzles, and if they read your puzzle, you would win a prize. This show is frequently mocked, as most Canadian game shows were at the time, for the cheapness of its prizes. You know, if they got the puzzle right, it was worth $10. Right, something like that. They'd win a small appliance or pen and pencil sets. Like a blender.
Starting point is 02:09:11 So it was just a big schmoz. Here's the big mind blow for you folks. The show's theme song is composed by... Oh, I already know. I think everybody knows. I think it's Quincy Jones. Quincy Jones. Again, I went with a double helping of Quincy Jones for my list this week. Quincy Jones, of course, did the last song that I played, Sanford and Son.
Starting point is 02:09:35 Quincy Jones did this song, which is actually known as Soul Bossa Nova, which was repopularized in the Austin Powers movies. Of course, it was also used by Ludacris in his rap song of Coming for Your Number One Spot. Coming for your number one spot. Ooh-ha, this is my number one spot. You'll have to do research on your own on that. Ironically, the show, which emanated from Scarborough, Toronto, Ontario, if I'm not mistaken,
Starting point is 02:10:07 if I'm not mistaken, a Canadian rap group recorded their video in and around that neighborhood. I could be just making that up, but I feel like it was. I think I'm going to Hollywood squares my way into saying that it was shot in that area. Maybe you remember this.
Starting point is 02:10:24 What the fuck is this? My definition of a boombastic jazz style. You're in the right place to talk about this, Chan. Dang! This album was produced in the basement of an FOTM. Is this Joel? No. Gober?
Starting point is 02:10:44 Good guess, though. Oh, Ron Nelson. DJ Ron Nelson, correct. Very good. Good guess, though, Joel? No. Gilbert? Good guess, though. Oh, Ron Nelson. DJ Ron Nelson, correct. Very good. Good guess, though, Joel Gilbert. Of course, this is the Dream Warriors. My definition of a bombastic jazz style. What a fucking great jam.
Starting point is 02:10:57 Oh, this album, And Now the Legacy Begins, is stellar. Yo, Dream, we got this new album. It's stupid. Honestly, I love this song and I love this album. Why did they not have a longer career? Good question. I think they were big in the UK.
Starting point is 02:11:19 I remember they had the album California Dream. Or is the song, it was from the follow-up to this that was pretty good. I don't know. I've been trying to get them on Toronto Mike for a long time. I feel like Diggable Planet's kind of moved into their space. I can only name one Diggable Planet song. Camp Blow kind of moved into their space.
Starting point is 02:11:37 Luchini, This Is It. Very cool stuff. Coming out of the gate hard with this. The first big hit was Wash Your Face In My Sink. I think this was of the gate hard like with this. Oh yeah. Well the first big hit was Wash Your Face In My Sink. No no I think this was first. I think this was second. I think this was first.
Starting point is 02:11:50 I think Wash Your Face In My Sink was second. Second. That's second. I remember it first. Oh that's your memory. At least on CFTR 680 CFTR I remember
Starting point is 02:11:58 Wash Your Face In My Sink first. I don't know why this would be playing right after Gowan. So yeah the Dream Warriors they've got this new album, It's Stupid. I want to give a shout out to Dallas.
Starting point is 02:12:09 I want to give a shout out to the A-Team. Mr. Belvedere. Why do they say Dallas Green? Oh, these are honorable mentions. Mr. Belvedere, Full House. You don't want to save it
Starting point is 02:12:17 for your third round? Because we can't do a trilogy next week. Who's the Boss? Okay. Air Wolf, which was mentioned on Twitter. I never saw an episode.
Starting point is 02:12:25 Simon and Simon, great detective tandem. Don't know. The Fall Guy. Yeah, I heard of it. Saturday Night's Main Event. Yes. Lots of great songs
Starting point is 02:12:35 that are left. Are you talking like Obsession or the other theme? Any. Da, da, da, da, da. Obsession is the fashion television.
Starting point is 02:12:43 Stay by the bell. You wake up in the morning. No, yeah, yeah. Wake up in the morning feeling. That's Degrassi. When you wake up in the morning and you look at the water, you're talking to your homoclast. There was an episode of Mad Men with Mr. Belding in it.
Starting point is 02:13:00 That's right, yeah. Mr. Belvedere, yeah, great song there too. Mr. Belvedere, that is a great. It's a Toronto connection. I almost picked This Week in Baseball. It came up last week. I love that song, yeah. Mr. Belvedere, yeah, great song there, too. Not Mr. Belvedere, though, but that is a great... It's the Toronto Connection. I almost picked This Week in Baseball. It came up last week. I love that song, yeah. It's called, like, Roaring Crowds or something.
Starting point is 02:13:12 Yeah. It's great. Beautiful song. So good choice here, Stu. You were awesome. I'm excited to be closing out this... Another victory for Stu Stone. Well, hold your fucking horses.
Starting point is 02:13:20 Wait a minute. One more to go. Hold on. Should we guess what your song is? Because I think we've... Yeah, go ahead. I can't remember because I think I guessed it earlier. Have we said it already?
Starting point is 02:13:29 Not today, I don't think. Are you 5 for 5 on CanCon? Correct. So this is going to be CanCon also? Hmm. We haven't mentioned it, so it's not the Edison Twins. No. It's not the Wayne and Schuster show. Nope. I don't even know the theme. Is it a TV Ontario? Correct, yes. It's not the Wayne and Schuster show. No. I don't even know the theme for the Wayne and Schuster show. Is it a TV Ontario?
Starting point is 02:13:46 Correct, yes. It's a polka dot. Oh, I'm getting, I think you guys are getting warm. It's going to be polka dot store today's special. Today's special. It's going to be one. I think we already did today's special, didn't we? No.
Starting point is 02:13:54 We didn't, so that's what this is going to be. Size small. Are you ready? It's off to the children's department once again. Jeremy. Not Pearl Jam Jeremy. But Jeremy wouldn't be CanCon, right? It's a France production. I'm a bear, but I'm a Jeremy. Yeah Jeremy wouldn't be CanCon, right? It's a France production.
Starting point is 02:14:07 It's either going to be Today's Special or Polka Dot Door. I know what it is. I know what it is. What? The Green Forest. No. No? I don't think that's Canadian either.
Starting point is 02:14:16 It's either going to be Today's Special, Cam. Peter Rabbit, hippity hop. Today's Special or Polka Dot Door. It's one of the two. Are you ready? I'm going to go with Today's special or Polka Dot Door. It's one of the two. I'm going to go with Today's Special. And I've kept on, this is this rip from TVO. It has some interesting little interstitial things at the beginning
Starting point is 02:14:32 and some identifications I kept on. Here we go. Elway is waiting to bring you the concluding chapter of Swamp Water next on Magic Shadows. Do you need a blanket? This is channel 19 in Sudbury, channel 9 in Thunder Bay.
Starting point is 02:14:50 Hmm. Whoa, not today's special. 321 Contacts? Colored lights are flying like an agent through the air. Shadows moving faster than they are. What in the fuck? As you listen, think about what song it reminds you of.
Starting point is 02:15:09 I've never seen before They'll take you to the sky Right upon a silver screen What in the fuck? Where pictures seem to flow like magic Magic Are you scared of this song? Shadows Where pictures seem to flow like magic. Magic. Are you scared of this song?
Starting point is 02:15:28 Shadow. This one was trippy to me. Okay. You're listening to the opening theme to Magic Shadows. No fucking clue. That was a 30-minute show on TV Ontario. I'm out of here. Hosted by... That's a David.
Starting point is 02:15:42 You really don't know. Wait, wait, wait. Time out. You really... Neither of you know Magic Shadows. I have never seen that's what David... You really didn't know that. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Time out. You really... Neither of you know Magic Shadows. I have never seen that show or heard that song in my life. Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike.
Starting point is 02:15:50 I'm going to get Rich Ronteiro on line two. I know it because you've talked about it on many other episodes. I listen to some episodes. But you've never seen the show. That's why I like you. But you've never seen the show. I've learned a lot from listening to
Starting point is 02:16:01 the Toronto Mike podcast. So you knew that song? Yeah. You knew that song. When he played it, you knew what it was. Ed fucking Conroy's been over here. He's a good friend of mine. You know that show? I know that song. Have you seen that show? I've heard the song.
Starting point is 02:16:15 Have you seen more episodes of that show or Cheers? Take your droplets off. I got some great mind blows for you. So the composer of that theme song sounds familiar. It's a Canadian named Harry Forbes the composer of that theme song. Sounds familiar. It sounds like Donovan. Is that Donovan? No, it's a Canadian named Harry Forbes. Oh, that's Harry.
Starting point is 02:16:31 Who created that Magic Shadows theme song. Okay. But a lot of people hear that song. Sounds like David Bowie. And when they hear that song, they think of this song. Oh, the Beatles? Right. So we'll get a little bit of this and I'll blow your mind again. Okay. Oh, the Beatles? Right. So we'll get a little bit of this, and I'll blow your mind again, okay?
Starting point is 02:16:48 Sowing the seeds of love, of course. So a lot of people heard the Magic Shadow song by Harry Forbes and said... He as you are, he as you are, me and we are all together. And they said, I am the walrus by the Beatles. But our mutual friend, Ed Conroy, had a conversation with Harry Forbes recently. Yes. And he came on in the last five years. And he came on Toronto Mike, Ed that is, and revealed to us all
Starting point is 02:17:29 that the song that inspired the Magic Shadows theme song was not by the Beatles, but it was by the Beach Boys. Oh. Oh yeah, that does kind of sound a lot more like it. There you go.
Starting point is 02:17:48 Cam doesn't know this song either. So, Cam, what's that show about, Magic Shadows? You know, there's a bunch of shadows. Yeah. They're kind of magical. Right. I guess they didn't get into that on the Toronto Mic'd Up episode. A bit over your head.
Starting point is 02:18:03 Dude, do you not know Elwie Yost? I don't. Wow. You know what? I'm not sure we can have a 36th Pandemic Friday. This guy was in the Canadian TV industry for years. I mean, maybe I do. You might know his son, Graham Yost, who wrote Speed.
Starting point is 02:18:19 Sure. Okay, kidding aside, what is Magic Shadows about? I don't know what it's about. No, it was Elwie Yost hosting a movie. So it would be like, he'd be your guide to the movie. And Elwie would be your comfortable guide, and he'd talk about the movie. And then you'd watch the movie. Wasn't it just called Saturday Night at the Movies?
Starting point is 02:18:40 There's two shows going on. There's Magic Shadows. Wait, that guy I know, but what's that got to do with Magic Shadows? He had two shows. Oh, so he was on Magic Shadows also? Correct. This is complicated. What's this song called?
Starting point is 02:18:52 Feel Flows. Feel Flows. This is a fucking trippy Beach Boys jam. When is this? This must be like right after Pet Sounds, I feel like. It's later than Pet Sounds. Like post-Pet Sound, pre-Marcella. But isn't it...
Starting point is 02:19:06 Pre-Kogamo. And if you could just give it a moment in the headset before I play it down, but... Apparently there's a little Ozzy Osbourne in this audio. Playing the trumpet inauguration. Needs more cowbell here. What's that, like a harpsichord? Not my most elegant segue there.
Starting point is 02:19:27 I'll work on my, it's all live. You know, people think I edit the shit out of this cause it's so polished, but it's all the main thing. We, we blew some minds left and right tonight. I think we all mind blowing of our,
Starting point is 02:19:38 uh, 35 weeks. I think so. Well, 35 weeks. Crazy. Are we, uh,
Starting point is 02:19:44 Yost passed away July 21st, 2011. Sure did. Of course. Yeah. He's a passport to adventure TV, Ontario's magic shadows from 74 and Saturday night at the movies. Well,
Starting point is 02:19:53 that Saturday night at the movies. I know. Yeah. So you just, you were batting 500. Pretty good. I do know who he is, but I don't know the magic shadows.
Starting point is 02:20:00 Uh, so I'm a little disappointed that I was number one on your list, but that's all right. Well, you know, it's no 90210 theme, but it's pretty good. I enjoyed this very much, and I know
Starting point is 02:20:09 Stu Gaffod, my suggestions would do a part three, but I would do it, but we can talk about this later. It's up to you guys. We'll mix it up. Guys, I'm just going to leave you with this, because I'm going to talk more about this Saturday, but December 5th, you both live in Toronto? Correct. I've heard of it. Okay, close enough.
Starting point is 02:20:25 We're going to try to feed Toronto's hungry people. The hungry people in Toronto. We have a Toronto Miracle, December 5th at 10 a.m. Are you bringing any palma pasta to that event? Leave a non-perishable food item on your doorstep. Oh, then I guess that won't work. Marked for Toronto Miracle. Because palma pasta is quite perishable.
Starting point is 02:20:39 We have volunteers. We're looking for more volunteers. More on this Saturday, but we're collecting these donations, and we're collecting these donations, and we're going to redistribute this food to those in need in the community. Quick question, Mike. Sorry to interrupt. I'm only trying to feed the fucking hungry here. See how I have a computer here?
Starting point is 02:20:54 Is it frozen? You see how it still works? I just wasn't sure how cold it was going to get out here. But thanks for being here, guys, and I'll get some kind of heater for you next week. Thank you for being a friend. That was last week, wasn't it? Yeah, it was last week.
