Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey, undetermined listeners, this is Jessica Noel. I'm excited to tell you about a new podcast called Truer Crime hosted by Celicia Stanton. Celicia started to require after she was the victim of a massive financial fraud scheme that resulted in the loss of her entire life savings. It was an experience that forced her to confront what the justice, incremental justice, really meant. And after navigating a tangle of tears, cops, and courts, her perspective had shifted.
Starting point is 00:00:37 She found herself with lots of questions. Like, does the story really end with a headline arrest or guilty verdict? How can we actually support victims? What does justice really mean? And who is it really for? As true crime listeners, you and I both know how deeply these stories impact all of us. Celicia didn't think the answer was to stop telling them.
Starting point is 00:01:05 Instead, she wanted to go deeper, and true crime does just that. Every episode explores real people, real crimes, and the real systems that shaped it all. You can expect lots of research, lots of nuance, and lots of questions. Check out this trailer. Murdered, missing, and misled. That changed my perspective on Truer Crime as a genre. And by now, we all know that crime,
Starting point is 00:02:14 it's not as black and white as we'd like it to be. The truth is so much more than simplistic narratives about beautiful victims and evil perpetrators. Truer Crime aims to go deeper, highlighting stories that hit at the complex realities of crime. This is a true crime show, yes, but one that strikes at the core of our shared human experiences.
Starting point is 00:02:39 In each episode, we'll share stories about fear. They would have thought he was the sweetest thing in the world because he portrayed that. He portrayed the happy family. Stories about hate. This is a lot. Can't enough of it to stay out of here period. Because we don't want to look here. Stories about regret. Not only a pool doesn't earn from his mistakes, but I've learned from
Starting point is 00:03:06 hard stuff that has changed. And stories about all the folks who refuse to give up hope. I want to be the voice for others that I never had. I want them to know that any kind of abuse is wrong. If it takes me 20 years and I can live that long up and working on this case. These are the stories of Mindy Dodd, Tamela Horseford, and Sam Mandez. New episodes of Truer Crime are available now, with Season 2 coming next spring.
