So, let's just get this out of the way.
We're too white people.
We're going to talk about this movie.
Yeah.
There's a lot of issues of race in this film.
We're white.
Yeah. We're too white. Yeah. We're going to try. We're going to try. We're going to try. We're going to try. We're going to to to to to to to to to to talk to talk to talk to to talk talk to to to to talk to to to talk to to to talk talk to talk talk to to talk talk to talk talk to talk talk to to to to talk talk talk to to to talk to talk to talk to talk to talk to talk to talk to talk to talk to talk to talk to talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk talk to talk to talk about to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to about about about about about about about about to to to to to to to to to to to tha th in this film. We're white. Yeah.
Yeah.
But we're gonna try.
We're gonna try not to be dicks.
And we're gonna try not to be presumptive.
And we're gonna try to be funny because that's what we do and it's like, ayah, ayah. And you know, if you want to talk about this, thi, thu, thu, thu, message, message, message, message, and message, message, and message, and message, and message, and message, and message, and message, and message, and message, and message, and message, message, message, message, message, message, message, message, message, message, message, message, message, message, message, message, message, message, message, message, message, message, message, message, message, I message, and message. to message. to message. to message. to message. to, and message. to, and message. to, and message. to, and message. to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, and message. to, and message. to, to, and to, and to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, too, too, too, too, try. try, try, try, try, try, try, try, try, Yeah. Everybody's a racist right? Everybody thinks racist shit whether they mean to or not.
Yeah and I and yes we all have biases I guess is what I'm saying. Yes we are all
filled with these cultural biases that we have to work against. Right if we if we are aware of them and can work against them. Right but nobody's like it's like when people say like I don't. their. their. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. to. to. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. to. to. to. thi. to. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. th. them and can work against them. Right. But nobody's like, it's like when people say like, I don't see color.
You're like, go fuck yourself because you do.
Yeah, we are actually.
You're saying you're racist by saying.
Right.
It's basically saying I'm not racist, but.
So that's where I think that's our set up.
That's our foundation here, right? we're going with. We're starting with. We're working on being, I don't know.
But everybody is. It's not just us. Brought up in a racist society. Sure. I've
grew up watching NASCAR for Christ's sake. I could get into the racist history of my
family but I will not do that right now. I know I have a lot of things that I kept running by Rob. Like should I tell them about this? And he was like, nope. So welcome to a to a a to a to a to a to. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. A. So welcome to a very special episode of WhereWFambulance.
This is a very special episode, TM.
And we're going to try to do our best to talk about what I'm going to run out of the
fucking gate say is an amazing movie.
Yeah.
And you guys should go see this. We're gonna spoil this. We're talking about Get Out the Jordan Peel movie from 2017, right now, in the theaters.
So if you haven't seen the movie yet, hang it up.
Yeah.
Just go and go watch it.
Any spoilers will ruin this movie for you.
Yeah.
Although a lot of it is in the trailer.
I feel like too much. They always do. I hate that. Oh by the way I'm Alan. Oh I'm Katie.
This is where all family amulants. Did we say that we're white? Did we say that we
they were racist? Did we say that we love hollow notes? Or at least I do. Also very white.
Blue-eyed soul. Oh God. But we're gonna try. We're gonna try.
So spoiler, spoiler. Again if you have not seen this shut. this. this. this. Blue. this. this. Blue. this. this. Blue. this. this. Blue. this. this. Blue. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. to. the. to. the. to. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. th. theto try. So, spoiler, spoiler, again, have you not seen this, shut this the hell off?
You've had plenty of time now.
I'm not even sorry for them anymore.
Everyone's seen this movie.
We were actually just talking about, like, well, we're going to talk about this movie.
And so was everyone else, which is awesome.
Yeah, the James Baldwin documentary, which was amazing and brutal,
and it's like, do you know anything about this?
I haven't seen it, but I know of it.
Yeah, it's him talking about his,
the death of three of his friends,
Malcolm Bax Martin Luther King and Medgar Evers.
And it's just like, it's destructive. And it's amazing. And so I feel like, I, th, th, to get out after seeing that movie and just feel like,
let's talk about race in America.
Yeah, all right.
So this is the horror of micro-aggressions, right?
Like that's-
I think it's the horror of macro aggressions,
really.
Well, at least the first half of this movie, I talked to a few friends, and I talked to my friend Joseph, who is a person of color who's in a relationship with a white lady.
And he said they were watching this movie and for the first half hour that is going, holy
shit, holy shit, holy shit.
Holy shit.
I've done all the shit's happened.
Yeah.
Yeah. That was weird when that's. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi, thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. theeea. thea. thea. thi. thea. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. hypnotize him though. Poor Joseph.
I felt so sorry for him when that happened.
Hopefully by that point and it stopped.
Yeah.
So we were following Chris Washington,
played expertly by Daniel Kaluya.
Has he been in other stuff? I didn't recognize him.
He's a British actor.
And he's been in some British, he was in an episode of Black Mirror.
I haven't seen that. I don't think it seems seems it seems it seems it seems it seems seems seems seems seems seems seems seems seems seems seems seems seems seems seems seems seems seems seems seems seems seems seems seems seems seems seems seems seems to seem to see to see to to to to to to to to to to to to to to be to be to to be to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to seen that. And I think it seems too, too hard to watch.
Well, it's like the Twilight Zone about technology.
I don't like that.
Okay, don't watch it.
Okay, there we go.
And he's been in a bunch of British television shows.
See, I watch all those British TV shows,'s a handsome. He is, yeah. I only watch the ones with old people in them.
Looking at you midsummer murders.
And we, so we...
In which a person of color has never been.
It's true.
It's like one of the biggest criticisms of that show is that there have been like 20 seasons,
and the only like non-white person it was ever, and it was like, thia, thia, thia, thia, thian, thian, the the only, and it was like, and it was like, the only, and it was like, and it was like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like a single Asian. Oh really? They were like oh we're just trying to paint a real picture of small towns in England like I guess so but
come on. You've watched some Foils War right? I watched like the first five
seasons. Okay, okay. I mean they're only like six I think. There's six or seven.
Yeah I think I just started to get really depressed. Yeah but there's an episode They're dealing with race relations with American soldiers and like FOIL is like totally on point and not racist and was like
pushing this like super liberal agenda and I'm like I don't know you're a six year old man in England in 1945.
I don't think so. Living in like a village a suicide village you are definitely a racist.
I want to believe the best in FOIL but no. Chris is going to meet Rose, his girlfriend's parents, who's played by Allison Williams,
who people know from girls.
I haven't seen that either.
I don't like that Lena Dunham, I gotta say.
Get out of my fucking face, yeah.
You don't speak for me.
All right. I don't care for the show either.
I've never seen it, I just don't care for her also like super intense
to spend a weekend with your girlfriend of five months
Yeah, I'd be like we could have dinner maybe lunch is faster
I'm not going for a weekend. Yeah, yeah pretty intense and we meet
Especially if you don't drive and they drove you there like no way. So they live in New York City and Chris is a photographer and those photos are great. They were really really interesting but they're going out to the country to where Allison's parents
lives, the armatages. And we meet Rod Wrodney who is played by Lull Rell Howery. He's a
shining star in this movie. So fucking good. Everyone needs a friend
like this. Yeah. And from the jump he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he's he he's he he's the jump he's he he's he the jump he's he he's just th th th. th. th. tho- tho- he's tho- tho- tho- tho- tho- tho- th. they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's th. th. th. tho. the the thr- thr- thr- thr-s thr-c-like thr-c-a thr-a thr-a thr-a thr- He's so fucking good. Everyone needs a friend like this.
Yeah.
And from the jump, he's just like,
not into what Chris is doing,
go and hang out with these white people in the woods.
Yeah.
He's right.
He's right.
Except for the sex part.
Right.
His theory is that, well, we'll get into theory later. I love the actor that plays her dad, Bradley Whitford. He's so great.
He's like the best part of Cabin in the Woods, which is a fantastic movie, so to be the best part of it is like pretty high up there.
I love those two dudes, like the guy, his uh, his cubicle mate basically. And he just like really nails the, I would have voted for Obama for a third term if I could have, I'm not not a the, the, the, th... th. th. th. th. th. th. the, th. th. th. th. the, th. Yeah, the, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, the, th. Yeah, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, to, to. Yeah, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, uh, to. Yeah, to. Yeah, to. Yeah, to. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.. Yeah.............................................................. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the, the. the. the. the I would have voted for Obama for a third term if I could have I'm
not a racist white dad thing and he just like is hitting it spot-on and it's
super uncomfortable because it's so real like it's so yeah yeah there so
before they leave Chris's asked Rose if she told her parents and he was
black and she's like no should I have mom dad I'm bringing home a black man
like that feels like a really honest conversation that they're having like yeah She's like, no, should I have? Mom, dad, I'm bringing home a black man.
Like, that feels like a really honest conversation
that they're having.
Yeah.
And she's like, my dad's gonna tell you
that he would have voted for Obama a third time if he could have.
Which is like the first thing he says to do.
Yeah.
But that's such a dad thing. I feel like that he that he that that that that that that that that that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. thi. that's. thi. thi. that's thi. thi. that's thi. that's thi. that's thi. that's like, that's like, that's like, that's like, that's like, that's like, that's like, that's like, that's that's that's thi. that but that's such a dad thing. I mean, I feel like he's he's really hitting it home. Yeah. I did not recognize the mother, the woman who plays the mother.
Catherine Keener. Yeah. I remember her most from playing Harper Lee in Capote, the movie with Philip Seymour Hoffman by a German
Capote. RIP? I've seen that, but I don't remember her. Apparently she was to Dermit Mollrony, so that's something.
Oh, look at that.
Fact.
And Stephen Root shows up in this movie.
Milton.
I fucking love Stephen Roo.
Yeah.
From office space.
Yeah, I want my stapler.
He's one of those people that when he shows up in, like, oh this just got better. Yeah. Whatever I'm watching right now just got better because Stephen Root just showed up.
So we find out when Chris and Rose get to her parents' house
that it's the family gathering weekend that she had forgotten about.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And of course Chris is bummed, because why wouldn't you be?
And also her brother's a lunatic.
Yes, that guy can only play a lunatic.
I've never seen him in anything else either.
He looks we weirdly like a woman, I know.
Oh really?
Yeah.
And they're both like, neither of them to be unattractive.
They just look weirdly alike.
The last exorcism, that movie that came out's like he plays a maniac. Sure. Like I think he's only set to lunatic like. Like Fruisabal. Yes. I saw a little bit of a Empire Records
the other day and Missy was like oh that woman from the craft was in this
movie and I was like you have to get more specific because there's four lead women in the ground. It's true. It was not Fruzabal. It was Robin Tunny. Yeah. It was. It was that. It was the that. It was that. It was that. It was that. It was th. It was th. It was th. It was th. It was th. It was th. It was th. It was th. It was th. It was th. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was th. It was th. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was not. It was not. It was not. It was not. It was. It was. It was. It was not. It was. It was. It was. It was. It was not. It was. It was not. It was not. It was not. It was not. It was not. It was not. It was not. It was not. It was not. It was not. It was not. It was not. It was not. It was not. It was not. It was not. It was not. It was not. It was not. It was not. It was not. It was not. It was not fruizable. It was Robin Tunney. Yeah. Shinaid O Rebellion.
That movie must just be right in your...
Oh, it's my wheelhouse. 100%?
Your adolescence wheelhouse.
I follow Ethan Embry on Twitter, like what I mean?
I love that he ended up being like a hard ass actor.
Yeah, he's a nice. He's pretty good in...
What's the...
the thanks? I thr what it is, which of those it is.
I don't know what that is.
Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, and Jack McCoy from Law in Order, and the oldest sheen.
Martin?
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Ethan Embrie is really good in, um, in cheap thrills. I haven't seen them. And he's also- We're surprised, I haven't seen this.
He's also got a small role in The Guest.
Oh yeah.
That movie is so good.
Oh yeah.
He's the arms dealer and the Guest.
And he's in Can't Harley Wait,
which is like my favorite, one of my favorite movies of all time.
I've never seen the one. That's that thing you do. Oh, okay. Can't hardly wait is about high school. Oh, all right. Graduation.
And Seth Green's in it.
I don't see no hose, Kenny.
Forget it.
We're getting very off topic here.
The family is, you know, giving him all this like,
they're very white, liberal, very well to do.
He's a neurosurgeon and mom is a hypnotherapist. Yeah, a psychotherapist or something.
But the brother is not, he's not cool.
He's not being cool at all.
He's like talking about strengths and being an MMA.
Yeah, yeah.
But I, Missy brought up that she was like,
she thought mom and dad nailed their things and the brother was like too much.
And I just felt like he was like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, likethe brother was like too much. And I just felt like he was like threatened brother on 11.
Of like there's this like new male on the house and I get it out alpha him and like kind of like.
Because he's just like kind of like he walks over to try and choke him out at one.
Yeah. See, it seemed to me that was more racially based than just being than he would have he if the if Chris had been a white guy probably because he says the stuff like well with your natural strength
and ability is like which is just like it's a weird assumption to make that
all black people are okay than all white people you just look to me like and
I was like I was like it's my assumption weird that he's just the alpha
brother going out or yeah because you're a racist oh no I'm trying we wee the the the he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he is he is he he he is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is like is like is like is th is like is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th. is th. th. th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I thi thi. I th. I thi. I thi. I th. I thi. I thi. I thi. I thi. I was like is like is like is like is like is Oh no, I'm trying. We're all racist.
Here we go.
Also, he's talking about how MMA,
or Jiu-Jitsu specifically
is all about brain power and not strength.
Yeah.
Am I got a cousin who's doing that MMA, that jujitsu?
He does not know that.
Nobody has told him that.
Sorry Joe. He's just like, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, or, or, or, or, or, or, or, or, or, or, or, or, or, or, or, or, or, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. to. to. th. to. to. to. to. th. to. th. th smoker, which is important to this because it's the gateway to him being
hypnotized.
I'm sorry, I just cut you off.
No, no, I was going to say we meet Georgina.
Oh, sure.
Who is the house helper? Yeah.
And then there is Walter, who is like the groundskeeper. And they basically say that Georgina and Walter, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, tha, tha, thoes, thoes, the, thoes, thoome, thoome, thoome, is is thoes, is thoes, thoes, thoes, thoes, thoes, thoes, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, is the is the is the is thea.ea.ea.ea.ea.ea.ea.ea.ea's is thoooooooooooome is the, is who is like the groundskeeper. Right. And they basically
say that Georgina and Walter, like when the grandfather and the family was sick,
they came on board to help around the house. And then after he passed away,
they just couldn't see getting rid of him. But they're both acting super-free.
Yeah, they're very stepfrey. Yeah, like a roboty, yeah. Yeah, Georgina's very steppery and Walter is just like full of non sequiters, I guess, just
saying things that don't make sense.
Chris is trying to like, I guess fraternize with them because he's like, oh, you're
the other black people who are here.
Right.
They're just both like, super weird about everything and like, and like Chris has him if he likes working, and he's like, I love working here.
Of course I love working here.
And just like, ugh.
And then he says something about how Rose
is just the greatest thing ever sweet,
you know, like in a way that almost seems like,
like he's admiring her in like a, in a that way.
Yeah, yeah, but then you understand why later.
Chris and Georgina have this weird interaction where he's talking to her and
She's got this smile on her face and they're interacting and she just starts crying while smiling. Yeah, and it's really upsetting This is when he realizes she's been unplugging his cell phone right. Oh and she goes to apologize to him because Allison has complaint or Rose has complained. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. And wow, yeah, it's fucking intense.
This whole movie is fucking intense, start to finish, really.
Like we didn't even talk about the deer scene and the cop scene.
I don't even know if we need to, but it's like just super intense,
constant intensity. So the party gets going, and all these like older white people are there.
They all look like they line of black cars too.
Yeah.
They all look like they're in the Secret Service.
It's all like black cars and black SUVs.
Why don't these people drive like Priuses or whatever?
It seems like that's what those people would drive.
I guess it's supposed to say, well, I think it's supposed't even occur to me. So, because I'm classist, I don't know, whatever.
Or just poor.
The party is just this string of microaggressions of like the white people coming up to Chris
and being like, oh, he's really strong.
Yeah, that one woman just squeezes his bice.
Oh, we forgot to mention that when Chris, or when Rose's dad is taking Chris around the house,
he's like, oh, that's my dad.
He ran against Jesse Owens in the 36 Olympics.
Or to get into the 36 Olympics, he lost though.
Never did get over it.
And it was just like, uh, it was really weird. But also that sort of like, that's sort of sort of sort of sort of sort of sort of sort of sort of sort of sort of sort of sort of sort of, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, that's that's that's that's that's that's that's, that's that's, that's, that's, that's, that's. that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, th. th. that, that, th. th. th. that's, th. that's, that's, th. that's, that's, th. th. th. that's, th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. that, that. that. that. the. the that. the the that. the that's that's that's that's that. I supposed to deal with this information on Chris's end?
This is after he's been hypnotized, though.
This is after the first night that he's there,
he, the mother asks him if he wants to be hypnotized,
to quit smoking, which he says no to like any good person,
normal person would, because who the fuck wants to be hypnotized? Have you ever been hypnotized? No, I don't think it's real.
I do.
Oh, okay.
Just because like my high school senior prom there was a hypnotist and my friend Lauren was
one of the people picked to go up there and she is literally more cynical than I am, and
all of a sudden she was on the ground walking like a duck and quacking
and like she's not the kind the kind the kind the kind the kind the kind the kind the kind the kind the kind the kind the kind the kind the kind the kind the kind the kind. it. She would take great pleasure and being like, this isn't working, you know, she was
doing it. I've never heard of it working on anybody. That's interesting. Have you ever been to
the Renfair? I've been doing it on that big stage and all those people are like laying on the
ground like, ah. Yeah, but I always thought that was just bullshit. Yeah, I don't think so. I don't know. But also I know it has worked for I know for I know for I know for I know for I know for I know for I know for I know for I know for I know for I know for that for that for that for that for that for that for that for that for that for that for that for that for that for that for that for that for that for that that that that that that that the that for that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their th. their th. th. their th. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. th. th. th. for them to lose weight. That they like were hypnotized into losing weight.
And I had a relative who had a bit of a nervous breakdown who was hypnotized into just
like feeling better, I think.
I don't know.
See, like, if it worked, why isn't everyone doing that?
I think because people just think of it as hooey.
I think it's pretty real.
. pretty real. I mean, your brain works. This is my thing with virtual reality too. Your brain just gets suggestions. I think about your anti-virtual reality
stands a lot. I'm not wrong. I'm not wrong. And in 10 years you're all going to see how
not wrong I was. I'm not just throwing yourself off cliffs because you don't know what to do, you know? Just saying. So yes, he's been hypnotized. Is this like the hypnotism scene. they. th. th. they. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. I'm just just just just just just just just like, I'm just just, I'm just just just, I'm just just, I'm just just just just, I'm just, I's like, I's like, I's like, I's like, I's like, I's like, I's like, I's like, I's thi. I. I. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. I'm thi. I'm just like, thi. I'm thi. I'm just like, thi. I'm just just thi. I'm thi. I's hypnotized. Is this like the hypnotism scene?
Yeah.
Yeah.
So this scene is fucking beyond intense.
So we've heard earlier that Chris's mother passed away when he was young.
Right.
And so...
In a hit and run, he tells us.
Yeah.
Rose's mom, Missy Armitage. is like, uh, so where were you when your mom died?
And he's like, yeah, I don't want to talk about this.
And then she starts rubbing a spoon on a teacup.
Yeah.
Making this like, shh, shh, shh, shh, shh, shi, shi.
And it shots, like, Jordan Peele is fucking great at directing this movie.
Like, the shots are awesome, the way they're set up and Chris just starts crying. Yeah and then we go like into his memory and we see young Chris
just so fucking sad I couldn't take it. Yeah it's so fucking sad I couldn't I
like couldn't watch it. That's all. Do you want to not talk about it? No we can talk
about it. Okay so Chris at 11 years old his mother she was hit by a bus? Is that what it was?
It's a hit and run.
I don't think so too.
So it turns out Chris was just watching TV and she never came home.
And he just kept watching TV, like kind of frozen, stuck watching TV.
Didn't call 9-1-1 or anything.
Didn't call anybody.
And we find out later in the film that she was freezing outside, she wasn't dead. And it's just like, what are you doing?
What are you doing to us right now?
I can't take it.
I like, I just can't take that kind of, I just can't take it.
No, it's so like that, I mean, I'm a person who like, I struggle with regret a lot
of the time.
So like that kind of stuff, thii. And just little kids with a lot of responsibility. I can't handle it. I can't handle it. I'm gonna get upset. But it's such a genius way to like lock you in on Chris.
Like you are, you were team Chris.
Yeah, you're with him all the way.
He's had this huge trauma and like you're just on board.
If you weren't already on board by the shitty stuff that's been happening to him car that has an accident and the cops like, let me see your ID. And Rose is like, you don't need to see his ID.
She's like, the white girlfriend, standing here for her black boyfriend.
And he's like, here, just look at my ID.
Please look at my ID.
Yeah.
Like, it's a really interesting dynamic. Oh, what's it called when she sends him into the the sunnken place is what's what, is what, is what, is what, is what, is what, is what, is what, is what, is what, is what, is what, is what, is what, is what, is what, is what, is, is what, is what, is what, is what, is what, is what, is what, is what, is what, is what, is what, is what, is what, is what, is what, is what, is, is what, is what, is what, is what, is what, is what, is what, is what, is what, is what, is what, is what, is what, is what, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, the, is, is, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, and, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th place. Which is fucked up and weird. So what's, he like sinks back into himself
and into this chair and then like you're in his mind
and you're viewing Rose's mom on a television set, basically.
Like from, yeah, from in sort of the sky, in the stars?
Yeah, like in space, yeah. And it's like, so it's just like, it's compounding on him watching TV as an 11 year old and
all this stuff and like, and then he wakes up, because he'd gone out to smoke.
Yeah.
And he wakes up and he's still in like the tracksuit he went out to smoke in.
Yeah. And also when he was outside, he sees Georgina.
What is she doing? She's upstairs. He sees her through the window or that just comes downstairs. And she's standing at the door, like looking in the reflection.
She's looking at the reflection.
She's looking at her reflection.
Because the lights on behind her so she can't, she sees the reflection.
Yeah, and she's like just messing with her hair a lot.
And then also Walter just like, oh, this is all very fucked up. And they're, but like it's, yeah, yeah, because they're not interacting with him at all.
It's like they don't see him.
Which is weird, I couldn't figure out why that was later.
Yeah, I don't know. I don't think I came to an explanation of that, but anyway.
So yeah, he gets hypnotized and he gets Rose and says, your mom hypnotized me.
And she's just like, oh no, I told her not to.
But then you're right, the next day is the party.
Right, where everyone's coming up to him and testing his muscles
and asking if fucking him is better than with a white guy.
And saying things like things like black is in fashion right now and things like that.
Which are all these things that are getting set up that are going to come back at the end of the film,
which is really neat. I like the way that that all kind of wrapped itself back together. Sure. And then this is when we meet Stephen Root who is Jim Hudson the blind art dealer.
Yeah. And he's reel into Chris's photos. He says that he's heard that he's got a
really great talent, he's got a good eye. His assistant describes them to him so
he knows what they look like. And he keeps saying how good of an eye he has.
Yeah. Which should have cued me into something but it didn't at the time.
At the time I just thought this is a thing about his own blindness and like his own sadness and having he never had the eye and now he really doesn't have eyes like because he says that he's a failed photographer and then he lost his vision so
I didn't yeah well how could how how were we to know?
Chris and Rose eventually leave the party to go and talk after well before that we mean Andre
but he's not Andre he's Logan and he is. We didn't even talk about the very opening scene to the movie.
Oh, yeah.
Guys, have we seen this movie?
It's hard to see him in the theaters, not take notes.
Because I don't know, like, I'm just looking at the Wikipedia summation, you know?
So the very opening scene to find an address. And he's walking around talking on the phone with somebody.
And as he is, a Porsche drives up next to him, playing some weird-ass song.
It felt like that episode of X-Files Home where they're listening to that like oldies song?
That oldy 50s song?
Yeah, yeah.
God, that episode's good.
You know, uh, Andre's like, fuck this. I'm not messing around in this white neighborhood. I know how these people do. And he like turns around and the car turns around
and follows him.
And then it parks and he turns around
and the driver's doors open.
Yeah.
And then somebody runs up with the helmet on and smacks him
and smacks him and puts him in the back.
Yeah. Because it happens quickly and then you get sort of like deeply enmeshed in the story that's happening that you sort of forget about it, yeah. So we meet Logan
who's dressed like an old-timey man. He's dressed like Colonel Sanders.
Kind of, yeah, with like a straw hat on and so. Yeah. He's dressed like a 90-year-old man.
And he's there with his wife who is like a middle-to- middle-aged white lady. Yeah. And he talks like he's reading a script I guess. Yeah really robotic
and really odd. And just like it's a weird demeanor. He's got a weird like oh well.
Because Chris goes up to him and says hey it's good to see another person of color here.
And then he says to the crowd Chris was just telling me he feels more comfortable with me here. which is really like just like the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. the most th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. Yeah. Yeah. th. th. Really th. Really really th. Really really really really really really really really really really really th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. Really really really really really really really really really really really really really really th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. thi. thi. the. the. thi. the. th. th. th. th. says to the crowd, Chris was just telling me he feels more comfortable with me here.
It's just really like, just like the most uncomfortable thing you can imagine.
This movie keeps the tension up so well.
Yeah, the entire time.
Just like keeps building and building, like it's relentless from that.
I had a bag of gummy sharks and I did not eat them.
I did not eat theyre. I know, I was just watching. Also, someone near me was eating something that had mayonnaise on it, which they do not
sell at the movie theater, and all I could smell is mayonnaise.
My sense of smell is all heightened, and it was just hard.
It was just hard.
That's all.
Don't break a sandwich to the movie, that's all.
Don't break a sandwich to the movie, guys.
How much fucking mayonnaise? I don't like it. Don't bring a stinky sandwich to the movies. Yeah, so Andre says like Chris feels more comfortable with me here, or Logan, I'm sorry.
Yeah.
And Chris is like, oh, I recognize that dude.
Why do I know that dude?
Yeah.
And he keeps having these intermittent phone calls with Rodney.
When Rodney is just hilarious and like you're going to get sex slave.
Yeah. And Rodney's th is just th's thi is just thi is just thi is just thi is just thi thi is just thi th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th the the the the the the the the the the thi thi thi thi thi thi thi tolou tolou tolou tolou tolou tolou tol. thea thea thea thea thi thi the thi the has this theory that the mother is just hypnotizing black people to be sex slaves. Yeah.
And Rodney's taking care of Chris's dog.
Yeah, that's a good dog.
And Rodney's also a TSA agent, which is like, it comes into play later, but it's also
just hilarious.
Like, it's just an ongoing gag, and that guy is think probably since ever. It's so good because he
just keeps breeding up that like of course I can do this on TSA and I was like
the notoriously enept like that's not so it's like a fun little like yeah
the give and take there. So then they go for the oh so logan flips out.
He takes a sneaky photo of him because he's trying to remember who he is and he wants to send it to Rodney and the flash. Which this made me mad. I
was like you're like a real photographer you know how to use a cell phone
camera sir you know to turn your volume down and you know to turn the flash
off. But when the flash goes off like Logan's eyes like stay like kind the thoooan's the th's th's th's th's th's th's th's to to th's to th's th's to th's th's th's to th's toe's th's th's thin thin thin's thi thi tooen to thi to to to to to to the. thi the the' to to the the the the to the the the the the the the th. th. this this this this this this this this this th. th. th. th th th th th th th th th th th th th is th th is th is the the the the the the the the the the the the thea to me me me mad mad. thea. thea thea thea thea' thea thea' thea this m. this this this Chris yelling, get the fuck out. With a nose
bleed out. And his nose is bleeding, yeah. And so he gets carried away. He gets
taken away from the party and to Missy Armadage. The mom takes him and is like doing
the hypnotism again or to him, we think. Chris is bugged out so they go for a walk.
And he's basically like I have to leave. I need to leave. I'm I'm I'm I'm I'm I'm to to to to to to to to to to to be to be to be to be the to be to be to be to be the the to be to be to be to be their and his and his and his to be their and his their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their th. And his the. And his the. And the. And the. And the. And the. And the. And the. And the. Andged out so they go for a walk and he's
basically like I have to leave. I need to leave I'm really uncomfortable I don't
want to be here anymore and she's like you want to leave without me and there's
this like tense discussion things going on. Yeah I mean you know from the
jump that she's in on it right from the tra or did you feel like maybe she wasn't? You know I only saw one trailer that didn't spoil a lot of what was going on.
I knew there was going to be something going on but I didn't know like how much of something was going on.
So I was like, I was pretty on board with their relationship.
Were you? Yeah. See, I feel like from what I saw in the trailers was like, oh, these white people are like capturing black people somehow,
doing something to cause them to like be sort of zombie-like. And then I was like, well,
there's no way she's not in on it. So I don't know. Yeah, maybe that's my own biases that I was like.
You were like a white girl could do no wrong. Well, I was just like, she obviously likes him. he theyme like, thi. She th it seems talking it's light they come back it's dark and when they come
back the party is done right but in the meantime we're cutting to Bradley
Whitford doing a silent auction and when you realize what's happening
it is chilling it's fucked up you realize they're auctioning off Chris there's like a picture of him and their their the the the silent auctioning of him and. and the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the light. the light. they're they's light. they's light. they's light. they's light. they's light. they's light. they're the light. the light. the light. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the they. they. they. the the they. the the they. up. You realize they're auctioning off Chris.
There's like a picture of him.
And they're bidding with bingo cards,
basically attached to popsicle sticks,
which I was kind of like, how does the blind guy know how to bid?
But I guess someone was helping him.
You could see his helper was leaning in and talking to him.
Oh, I didn't realize it until later. So he sold for 10.
Yeah. Is that million hopefully? I don't know. I would think he's worth more than 10,000. Yeah, I would think so. So when he comes back is when the shit hits the fan, right?
They can buy a Corolla for 10,000. I'm just saying. You can buy a Hyundai accent. You can get an older girl.
I'm just joking.
Carolas are funny.
Can you get a milkshaked carol?
Oh, I will sell you my milkshaked carol for $10,000.
So I can't remember the how does Chris get locked up?
He, they go up to the bedroom that they're staying in. Oh, damn, it's they, they, they, the the the the the the the the the the they, the the they, the they, the the th.. th. th. th. th. th. th. they, th. th. they, they, they, they, they they they thoes. that. that. to get, to, I, I'm, I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I, th. I. I. I. I. I. I. I, th. I. I. I. I. I. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. they go up to the bedroom that they're staying in and
they, he has sent the photo of Logan to Rod and Rod's like oh that's Andre he's
been missing and Rod starts immediately like Googling and that's happening at back
at home. In the meantime Chris is like packing up the room and he finds that box
of roses right with her, it's like a series of selfies of her with black people basically. Oh right, right, right, they, they, they, they, they, right, right, they, th. they, they, right, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, and th, th, and they, and they, and they, and they, and they, and they, and they's, and they, and they, and they, and they's, and they's they's they, and they, and they, and they, and they, and they, and they, and they. And they, and they. And they, and they. And they, and they. And they. And they, and they. And they, and they, and they, and they, and they, and they, and th. And th. And th, they, th, th, th, th, th, they're, they're, they're, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, they, of roses. Right. With her, it's like a series of selfies of her with black people, basically.
Oh, right, right, right, right, right.
Yeah, a bunch of like handsome black dudes and then Georgina and Walter.
Right.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So he, I forget what happens that he's like, we have to leave right now. And he's like, I need the keys, Rose. Rose, I need the keys.
Yeah.
And that, he just, that's kind of his refrain for the next few minutes.
Like, I need the keys, Rose.
And they, the family starts like blocking him,
physically blocking him from leaving, especially the brother who's a lunatic.
With a lacrosse stick, which, which, which, which, which, which, which, which, which, which, which I, which I, which I, which I, which I, which I, which I, which I, which I, which I, which I, which I, which I, which I, the brother is played by Caleb Landry Jones.
I don't think I dropped his name.
Landry Jones, backup quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Oh, really?
That's his name.
And his name in the movie is Jeremy.
Yeah, white guy name.
Jeremy Armitage is as lacrosse as you can get, so.
He keeps yelling, Rose, I need the keys.
We need the keys, we need the keys, we have to go. She's like, I can't find them, and she's getting more frantic, and then she finally stops
and she opens her hand and she has the keys and she says, you know I can't give these to you.
Yeah.
And that's when it's like, oh, the fuck, sa-
I'm really surprised you.
I mean, I knew like, I was with Chris and when like just when he realized like, yeah, he's super fucked. He's super fucked, yeah. Like he's fucked, I'm fucked, I'm fucking super fucked.
Super fucked, yeah. So he gets like knocked down? No, she does the teacup thing. Oh, that keeps reoccurring. She keeps like putting him on her.
The teacup thing whenever she needs him to like pull out, to room tempest butter. I think I just don't want this to be real. I don't want hypnotism to be real. I mean I don't think it's like you can ring a
bell although you know that's been done and live tests. You know Pavlov and all
that. Yeah yeah yeah I don't know how well that works on human brains.
So when he comes to, he strapped down to a chair.
Yeah, like in what appears to be an old, old basement.
Yeah.
Not like a wreck room.
Yeah, a wreck room.
That's much better, yeah.
And when we had seen the flashback of him being an 11-year-old watching TV, waiting for his mother
to come home, when he was having the flashback, he was scratching at the chair that he was sitting in. Yeah. So now when he's in the basement, he's like bugging out and scratching at the chair,
which is like a leather stuffed chair.
Yeah.
The TV in front of him turns on.
Right, right, right, right.
And is this the coagula?
I this, yeah, with the grandpa, I guess.
Basically, he learns through this video that this family has perfected a neurosurgery that allows them to
continue living by transplanting their brains into other people's bodies. Right, right. But a little,
I like the way it's sort of just like, get, that, don't worry about the medical stuff,
where they're like, we have to leave a little piece of the brain like where it's attached to the stem. So yeah, that's like that's like, the little, the little, the little, the little, the little, the little, the little, the little, the, the, the, the, the, th, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. th. th. Yeah, th, th. Yeah, thi, their, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, the, the, the, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, their, their, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, thi. Yeah, thi. Yeah, that's, that's, that's, that's, te. Yeah, te. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, the. Yeah, th. Yeah, that's like a little little bit left of you. Yeah. You'll be in the sunken place. In the sunken place, right?
Which is just like like that they're like gotta leave that little bit on the stem. You can't take it all.
But the whole thing of like you'll be trapped inside of here to serve a white person. Yeah, it's fucked up. It's super fucked up. I mean, it doesn't get any more fucked up. But I that. that. that. that. that. that. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. that's. th. th. th. th. th. that's. that's. that's. that's the the the the the the w. the w. the whole. the whole. the whole. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. theea. theeea. theea. thea. thea. theea. thea. thea. the. the. 't get any more fucked up. It's super fucked up, right? But I think that's what that feeds into what we mentioned earlier.
Like it goes from these micro-aggressions to like, just straight out like macro, like fucking,
and then he passes out again and when he comes to Stephen Roots on the television.
And he's like, you can talk to me, there's a microphone, I can't th and th and th thells him that like he is going to be the person, he bought Chris and he's going to live inside of him.
Because he wants his eyes. He wants his eyes.
He wants his eyes.
And then I was like, I think the vision's in the back of your brain.
So I think you would take that with you. I really do.
I forget what the back of your brain is called.
But I think it's your vision, brain. I don't know. I'm pretty sure it is because I knew someone who fell off somebody's shoulders and while drinking in college fell backwards and hit the back of her head and then went
blind for a little bit.
Oh no. Yeah, so I think that's the your vision, your scene, your sea inside.
But this special, I'm just saying the, I'm just saying the science. But this occult surgery can get fast. I love that there's that veneier. the v v v v v v v v v v v. A v. A v. A v. A v. A v. A v. I'm. I'm. I'm. th. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. I. I'm. I love that it has a name, it's something of coagula. And in the O.R., where like Stephen Root gets the top of his head taken off,
there's candles set up in the O.R.
and it's all dark in there.
And it's like this like veneer of a cult put on this.
And now he's like, dude, white people love putting the occult has taken this shift to being like very gothic and very, it's really
cool.
Meanwhile, I'm just going to say, well, this is happening, we're going back and forth between
this and Rodney like trying to save him.
So he like, he like, he goes to the police and tells them this crazy story about sex
slavery, white people hypnotizing black people into sex slavery. And they're all to to to to to to to th people thian thi thi thi thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, this this this this this this this this this this this this is this is this is this is this is this is this is this is this is this is this is going this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this, this this this this, this this this this this this, this this this this this is this is this is going, this is going, this is going this is going this is going thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, let me get some people. And she brings in another black guy and a Hispanic guy, which I liked.
And they're all super serious listening to his story.
Yeah, like arms cross, brows furrow listening.
And then they just laugh at him.
And she's like, don't say I never do anything for you.
I loved it. I also love that he had that he that he that he that he that he that he that he that he that he that he that he that he had the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the to th. Who? Yeah.
So good.
And he keeps trying to call Chris's cell phone over and over.
And I like that too because while this movie keeps the tension really high, you can't have,
you can't be at 10 the whole movie.
So it does like just dip when you're in the Rodney scenes, you're like, okay,
things are funny, things are everything's going to be okay and then it's like roop right back in. And it's also still pushing everything along. Yeah.
You know that you're there's no like it's relieving the tension but not getting
out of the story. Yeah. You're staying you're it's pushing it along.
So Chris is able to pull some stuffing out of a chair sticking in his ears and when they try to hypnotize him again, it doesn't work. So he... Well, we see the dad, we see Dean in an operating room and he has Jim in there, and he's like
cutting off the top of his head. Meanwhile, the brother comes in and unstraps Chris from
the chair. Chris is pretending to be asleep because of the tea cup thing. But Chris like waits till he's unstrapped Chris un Strapped Chris hea-staps Chris he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's unstapped he's he's he's unstrapped he's unstrapped he's unstrapped he's unstrapped he's unstrapped th-staps the the the th-straped th-straped the the the their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their th. But Chris like waits till he's unstrapped and the brother turns his back and he hits him with a botchy ball Yeah, which I liked because that's also so white even though it's of my people who are white, but you know, it's not lacrosse, you know, it's not lacrosse. It's not fucking tennis. It's not fucking tennis. It's not fucking. It's not lacrass. It's not fucking. It's not fucking. It's not fucking. It's not fucking. It's not fucking. It's not fucking. But he does like, but I think that's also... It might have been a croquet ball too, so I don't know, I'll say it.
I think it was about too.
So he, but like, those are fucking heavy.
Oh yeah.
And he's like just whacking him in the head over and over again.
Well, there were people in the theater. So he like knocks him out, you think he might be dead? It's a he's in a pool of blood. It's a god-dame horror movie thing.
I'm just like kill them till they're dead. He killed them till they're dead. I know,
but you kill them till they're dead. Just mushy-mush. You come until you see their brains. And then he goes into the operating room with the st. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. the th. thoom. thoomoomoomoomoomoomoomoomorrow is is th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thoomorrow thoomorrow thi. thi. thi. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah........ Yeah...... Yeah..... Yeah. Yeah... Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. t. Yeah. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. the stag's head the stag head that was hanging on the wall and early in the movie the dad had gone off about how much he fucking hates
deer and what he's like because they hit a deer and he's like as far as I'm
concerned that's one down and a thousand to go yeah it's very he's like
they're just praying off society or whatever and kills him. Love that. Bradley Whitford.
Yeah.
Yeah, he can really pull off wearing a V-neck sweater with no t-shirt or neither, which is
a look I can't do, but I'm jealous of.
He's also just in the last couple years let himself go completely gray and he looks
fine.
It's fantastic, yeah.
Why how come men can't? Um, because of misogyny? Yeah. Nah, it's a bummer.
This whole fucking thing's a bummer.
This is a bummer episode.
Let's keep going.
So then he, how does he take out the mom?
Um, she lunges for the tea cup so she can put him under again, and he knocks it on
the floor and then, I don't remember.
Yeah, so I don't remember. This is the thing about the movie theater. You can't make to take those notes. So, I don't know. She dies.
She dies.
And then Jeremy comes back because he didn't kill him until he was dead.
Right.
And then he has to kill him again.
Right.
And he has the redemption arc.
And he gets the redemption arc, right? Like he's the redemption arc of he can't just leave her, because he can't just leave her.
So he picks her up and puts her in the car and keeps driving.
She freaks out and they drive into a tree.
She starts attacking him.
Yeah, which, but before that happens, Rose realizes what's happened and she's like, Grandma,
and that's when you realize that her grandma has been put inside Georg in his body. And dad is in Walt, her granddad is in Walter.
Here's the question that I had. What? It was it, I can answer, yes, she was listening
to the dirty dancing soundtrack when she was up in her room. No, I love that.
No. Why did they bring their grandparents back to make them do chores. I think they're just doing chores while people are there.
Uh, the rest of the time they're hanging out.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah, I love the wasped turn that Rose takes.
When she puts on the turtleneck and puts her hair and a ponytail.
Yeah, yeah, her hairny ponytail. Andthrough, she's searching the internet for new perspectives
and she's looking at like sports stars and athletes
or like college athletes.
One of them is Keegan, Michael Key from Key and Peel.
He's like one of the dudes in it.
And that's like his one little cameo in the movie.
I didn't notice that.
I love like, she is just like cold as ice at this point. Yeah. One of the scenes I really like is when Rod calls and she gets her.
And she's just like, oh my God, I don't know.
Where is he?
You mean he's not home, but her face is totally stone cold.
And she's like, this isn't about Chris.
This is about us.
You always want to fuck me, Rob.
Oh yeah. just sitting there watching and then you realize how like beyond the racism, beyond the like lack of sociopaths just like you're this is what your daughter's
like this is insane this is insane. Rod's reactions are amazing yeah the fuck
you talking about yeah and when we see Jeremy's car when he takes the keys
to Jeremy's car that's when I was like oh shit that first scene I just the dude the dude from the first scene so I guess I he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he th he th he th he th he th he th he th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th the the the the th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th is just just just just just just just just just just just th. th. th. th. th. th. th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is th is just just just just th is th is th is th is just th is just the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the takes the keys to Jeremy's car. That's when I was like, oh shit, that first scene. I just totally forgot.
He's a dude from the first scene.
So I guess he's in on it, he's been doing this too.
There's not just all Rose though.
Yeah, whole family.
Whole family fucked up.
In a whole creepy thinne.
In a whole creepy thin. my favorites, which is like so fucked up. So gross. Yeah. So Rose comes out?
Yeah.
Oh, right, because he has wrecked the car.
Yeah.
And he's like all dazed and stumbling.
And she's got the rifle.
Yeah.
Walter tackles Chris.
Right.
Is Grandma dead at this point?
to the car accident, right?
I think she goes like... Yeah, because when he comes to, he like, goes unconscious for a second when he comes to, or she's like, eyes open on the dashboard, yeah, yeah, yeah.
So, Walter tackles Chris and he like splashes his phone in his face to like, turn him, I guess?
Yeah, so she's been trying to shoot him with a rifle. Yeah, and, yeah. And cocks the gun, turns around and shoots Rose.
Gut shot, he gut shoots her, which is like, ugh, yeah. And then puts the gun
under his own chin and takes his own life. Yeah. And then there's the fight
between Chris and Rose trying to get to the gun to kill, they were trying to kill each other. Yeah, he's like choking her. And then the cops show up.
Yeah, you see the cop lights, cop car lights
comes to the trees.
At this point, I'm like, fuck this,
fuck this, fuck this movie,
fuck everything.
I'm so bummed.
Everyone in a TSA cop car.
Yeah, he opens.
I love the way it was shot to you where the car, the door opens and it gets caught in
the flashlight and it says TSA.
I literally everyone in the theater started cheering.
It was amazing. It was like, it's just such a glorious, the, the, the, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, the, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I the, I the, I the, I the, I the the, I the, I the, I the, I the, I the, I the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, the the the the the the the the to, had tears of joy rolling down his cheeks. That would be- Joe Biden.
No, you.
Yeah, I started crying.
I was just like, this is the relief that I felt.
Yeah, yeah.
And then they drive away.
Meanwhile, before they drive away.
Oh, Rose is screaming that she needs help because she thinks it's the cops and
that stuff. Yeah.
Do they do something to kill her? or do or do or do their or do their or do their or their, their, their, their, they. th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, tho, tho, tho, tho, thi. thi, thi, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. Do they, to say, do they somehow kill her? Do they do something to kill her? Or do they just leave her there to die? I thought that he just left her there. Okay.
But while they're in the car, that like, sit, both sitting in the car, Chris is like
bloody and shaken and just totally dazed. I told you not to go. Yeah. Yeah. I want you not to go with to go with to go with to go with to go with to go with the to go with the to go with the to go with to go with the the the to go with the the the to go with the the the the the th the the the the the th the their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their the. the. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. their their their their their their the of the room. Oh, okay, so they do just leave her. Yeah. Well, that's this movie.
It's so good.
It is so good. It's very uncomfortable.
It's very uncomfortable to be a white person watching it.
And a lot of the commentary that I've read since has been like, oh, white people like you. theat that, the white people like you, or not pretend, or not, thiii, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, it's, it's thi, it's tho, it's thi, it's so tho, it's so good, it's so good, it's so good, it's so good, it's so good, it's so good tho, it's tho, it's thi, it's thi, it's thi, it, it, it, it, it's thi. Joe's and Drive a Prius, I drive a Corolla but whatever, are the real
enemy it's not the alt-right it's you which I kind of don't agree with but
I definitely see the the micro-aggression thing you know yeah I know I think
I think I think all right is more the enemy than I am but sure I see where you're going I think I think I the I the I the I th th th th I th I th I th th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th I th th th th th th th th is I th is I th th. I the. I the. I the. I the. the. the. the. ththink there's arguments. I think that it's interesting this film was made in the age of Obama and released in the age of Trump.
Yeah, it's a little painful.
But I think that like, I love that they're not rednecks. They're not Nazis.
They're not like these gross stare. They're fucking liberal whites.
Yeah. Yeah. They're like self-reported liberals, you know, like, and that's really interesting and that's
like, that's like, that's one of the things like this movie is referential to a
lot of things. There's references like it's Rosemary's baby, there's a
Stepford wives, there's like these things that he's touching upon that he wanted to do to use his like touchstones in this movie, but he wanted to make to make to make to make to make to make to make to make to make to make to make to make to make the the the to make the the the the the to make the the the the the the theomeom. the, thean, thean, like thean, like thean, thean, like thean, like to make is a to to to to to to to thean, like a thean, like a thean, like a thean, like a the an the an the an the an the an the an the an the an the an the an the an the an the and., the and. is a theananananananananananananan, throwne and. throwneann. throwneann. thrownean, thrownean, thrownean, throwneann. throwne Wives is about like middle class men dealing with feminism and dealing with their wives becoming independent.
Right. And this is about like the racism in America and like liberal racism specifically and
that's really interesting. So yeah, do you want to move on to rating this movie?
Um, I want to talk a little more about the, like white people get mad about this movie? Oh, I'm sure. Yeah, that's been sort of a not a backlash, but it's like a white people getting mad about this movie.
White people get mad when they're told that they're racist. Yeah, here's the thing
Like this I don't think has ever been done before racial horror in this this sense. I don't I think like you can think back to like, you know, you thi, th th, th th th th th th th thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi theateateate people thi thi thi the people the people the people the people thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi the thi the white white white white white white white thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi thi thi thi to like, Night of the Living Dead, which deals with racism and deals with, you know, that movie was very progressive for its time, putting a black man in the lead.
Yeah.
And, but you know, George Romero's been like, that's just who we cast.
Right. So it gets that, that veneer put on it because of who we cast to be in the movie.
That's true. This is the.
There's like the black exploitation movies that touch upon this stuff like horror movies, but like like but this like this is just like I am what I am. This is the movie that it is you know what
I mean like there's no oh well you know he's doing this thing but it also has this racial
overtone to it like this is dealing with race so head on so yes I think you're right in that
regard. But it's like where are all these men getting mad when every other horror movie is about men victimizing women?
You know what I mean?
That you're fine with?
But suddenly someone tells you you're a racist and you're mad about that?
You're also a misogynist.
Sure.
Own it all.
Yeah, and a homophob.
Yeah.
Yeah. Yeah, you guys watch Boys Don't try and probably feel bad about that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to to to to to to. to. that. that. that you're that you're that you're that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the the. the the they. the. the. the. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. Anyway. Yes, I agree. And I think it's, I haven't read
a bunch of stuff about this movie and probably because I don't want to read people complaining
about being called out for their racism. Right. You got, like, we're going to have to own it before
we can fix it. You know what I mean? We have to understand this stuff. Right. Which seems unlikely to me, based on the reaction to this. Yeah, like, you, like, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, th. Like, th. th. thi. thi. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. I thi. I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm a the the the they. the understand this. Right. Which seems unlikely to me based on
the reaction to this. Yeah, but I'm a 43 year old white dude who's like trying
who's been like... Yeah, but that's the movie saying you're the enemy. How do you feel
about that? I mean I understand it. I understand that I can be perceived as that for sure. And... Plus you keep doing all those surgery on black people's brains. I'm like th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, like, like, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, I thi, thi, I thi, thi, I'm, thi, thi, I'm not doing that. You have to stop doing that.
You have to stop doing that.
And you know, I have a lot of work to do and it's on me to do that work.
And I think that's the other thing that people don't like about this stuff.
It's like, these, the black people don't have to help you fix this, they're going to point it out to you and then you have to go, all right, well let me reflect
on that.
You know, see, I mean, I think there are smarter people than me that can dissect this film and
like there's like 100 interviews with Jordan Peel where he like lays this out and it's really well thought out and like, oh man, I'm a huge fan of his work and you know, with Keen-peel and he's, and it, and it, and it, and it's, and it's, and it's, and it's, and it's, and it's, and it's, and it's, and it's, and it's, and it's, th.. th. th. th. th. th, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, I's, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I'm a huge fan of of his work and you know with Key and
Keanu and this is just like yeah this is you know cemented that even more
well I had a hundred percent of rotten tomatoes for a while there.
Oh did it is it coming down? I think one critic gave it a lower score to like
fuck it up true like up Troll it yeah, basically
Yeah, now we can move on to the ratings phase. That's fine All right. Let's move on to the ratings phase
I really like this. I I always say I loved it. I think it was
exceptionally well done. Yeah, it's interesting because you don't see a lot of horror movies where all the deaths are caused by the protagonist. Yeah, and deaths of people do not. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the the the the that the the the the the the the the the the a weird twist of like in the horror genre, I think. Yeah. I want to give it a ten, but I feel like everybody's given it
a ten anyway. But you know what, here's the thing. I don't know I'd watch it again. Oh really? It's just like, first of all I couldn't. And it's not because I,. It's not, for all the reasons, I'll never watch a lot of these movies we do again.
But just like those scenes with him and his mom, I couldn't, I literally, maybe it's hormones,
but I could not fucking take it. Yeah, it's just crying in the theater, like, looking at the exit signing back to, you know, I can't, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I the exit, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I the exit, I, I, I, I the exit, I the exit, I the exit, I can't, I can't, I can't, like, like, like, I, I, I, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I'm, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. the th. th. the the the the of the intensity of it is hard to, it's a little bit like
something like Last House on the left where it's just so hard to watch.
Even though there's like these comedy scenes breaking it up, it's just so hard to watch.
Something that's on that level of intensity.
I just, yeah, it's just hard to,to I like I'm too anxious for this and that has nothing to do with the race aspect of it
It's just the the the oh just the ratcheting and the I don't know yeah Expertly done though. So well handled. I think it's just one of those things too of a horror movies that really gets me is when it's just thus. thus. th just th just th just th just th just th just th just th just th just th th just th th th th th th th th th th th thus. thus, thus. thus. thus. thi thus, thus thus the the thi thi thi the the to to to to to to to to to to to to the. the. the. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. the the the the the to the to to the to the to to to the. to to to to to to to to to to to to to the to to to to the the to the ths to other people. It's not like a ghost in a mirror that like pops out and grabs
you. It's just, it's so hard for me to watch humanity be horrible to each other.
Well I think that's why we're both like home invasion movies or the movies that fuck us up them.
Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That shit's real. And so is fucking racism. Right. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Okay. Did you give it a 10. Okay. Even th th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That. That. That. Yeah. That. That. That. That. That. That. That. That. That. That. That. That. That. That. That. That. That. That. That. That. That. That. That. That s that. That s that shit. That shit. That. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. It. It. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that. It's that. It's. It's, yeah. Oh, what did you give it a number? I gave it a 10. Okay.
Even though I didn't want to, but I did anyway, because I wanted to be contrary, but it's like, what's the point?
I'm also going to give it a 10. This will probably sound hyperbolic, but I don't mean it to be, but this is one of the, if not the most important horror film that I've seen a really, the, th...... the, the, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, the the to the to be to be to be, thi, thi, to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to thi, thi, thi, thi, th. I, th. I, th. I, th. I, th. I, th. I, th. I, th. I, th. I, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, the the the thi, the the thin, the the the the the to to to to to to to to to to to to to thi, thi, thi, a really long time because of what it's dealing with. That there's, it's not a subtext.
That the racial stuff is not subtext, that it is, it is what it is.
It's the top of the order, yeah.
And I think that's a really important thing and I think right now,
right now in 2017, it's a really important thing to deal with, and until we deal with it, shit's that, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that it's that it's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that it, that it............... It's that, it, it's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's the the the the the the the th. the the the the the the the the the thi. the the thi. that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that'sthat we have in this country right now and have had for years
and years and years.
On top of everything else.
I think that's like the, yeah.
So I think this movie is great and yeah, I don't know, I've watched it right now, but I
will watch it again and I'll probably buy it when it comes out on digital versatile disc
or Blu-ray, whatever the kids are buying. If you've made it this far, haven't seen this movie? What are you doing? Like, what did you do? Yeah.
Go see it.
Because we did a terrible job of explaining it,
but you're gonna love it.
It's great.
I do, well, the reason I want to see it again
is now that I know, everything that's going on in it, will it? We are a society of like-minded individuals who choose to live our lives steeped in the legends,
lore and customs of Halloween.
What does that mean?
Well for us, Halloween is anything but just a day in October.
It is a lifestyle and a lens by which we view the world around us.
The order of the Thin Vale is a tiered style of membership for the year.
There are three levels of membership and each has its own set of perks, such as exclusive
artwork, a newsletter, certificates, contests, and invitations to special events.
Members will also have access to exclusive
items available only to current order of the Vale members. Additionally, members
will engage in the ceremonial planting of their own pumpkins to eventually carve
into jack-o-lanterns with included seeds. This will be an O-TV
Community event, more details forthcoming. Options for membership are as
follows and are a one-time fee. This is not a recurring monthly subscription.
Once you sign up you're a member for a year. You can go to Cryptocurium.com

So, Katie, what are we doing next week?
Next week is a guest episode.
Yeah.
And we're being joined by our friend Dave to discuss his pick.
Mm-hmm.
A movie I love, but no I don't.
The 1997 Space Garbage Flick event horizon. I mean, like, watch it, I guess if you want to talk about it or don't, like.
It's on the Amazon, you can rent it there.
It's just like, or just read the Wikipedia page, I feel if you want to not pay for it and
not waste your time.
Oh, Dave, I'm sorry sorry I'm ruining it already. Yeah
come back next week for that. Yeah Dave's great. Dave is fantastic. Yeah. I want
to make sure to thank the end of the podcast Jen Scott for talking with me
about get out. She helped me flesh had a lot of the ideas that I tried to get out in

We did it though. We did it. I think.
Thanks for listening to another episode of wherewulf ambulance.
