Katie, yeah. I feel like I owe you an apology. Why? I sold you a bill of goods. I thought Hot Fuzz was a horror movie. It's totally not a horror movie. It's a mower movie. It's a midsummer murders with some gore. Yeah. It's a midsummer murders with some gore. Yeah, welcome to another episode of Wherewolf ambulance. That used to be a horror movie podcast, but then I screwed it up by saying. It's. It's a midsummer murders with some gore. Yeah, welcome to another episode of WhereWulf Ambulance that used to be a horror movie podcast, but then I screwed it up by saying Hot Fuzz was a horror movie.
Well, it's got some gore.
It does and it has like a cult in it.
It's got a guy, sort of like the Scream Guy, running around wearing a cloak and broad daylight, so that's something.
It does have that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that th th th th th tho tho tho tho tho tho-a tho-. It does have that. I sold you a building goods
Katie. Keep saying it. Whatever it was okay. That's the rating. Well we can get
in and talking about it because I love this movie. So this is 2007.
He came out on 420. Today is 420. Yeah Yeah smoke them up guys. Yeah, I wish
We were just discussing how sobriety is really making these movies harder for me I want to apologize for my voice at my laugh right now
I have a cold so I just sound like my 118 years old you sure you don't just have allergies it's allergy season. No, it's a full-blown cold.
It's a full-blown cold. Gets. Got that growing stuff. The one?
Growing stuff.
It gives the allergies, you know, green stuff.
Oh, no.
As soon as like the trees start budding, I'm like, here we go.
Yeah.
Quaritan season.
What's why are we talking about this?
Sorry.
Katie, can I read you the synopsisks. top London cop is assigned to investigate a seemingly sleepy town which suddenly starts to stir with a series of grizzly accidents. Okay, yeah, that
sounds about right. Yeah, doesn't mention that it's a comedy, doesn't mention.
No, no. What is the Netflix categories that it puts it in? I think just mystery and comedy.
Okay. Not not a hard movie because it's not action, because I feel like this is very much an action movie.
Yeah, and an ode to action movies.
The last like 30 minutes are just action.
You can basically tune out if you don't want to watch that.
It's just their homage to Bad Boys 2.
Yeah, it's really, I guess maybe I just don't like action movies that.
I was wondering how you were going to come down on that. Because you know a hate point break.
I do, it's stupid.
Surfing bank robbers like.
Of course it's stupid.
Johnny, what is it Johnny Utah?
Johnny Utah.
Like Gary Busey, I cannot stand.
It's just so bad.
What about Anthony Kietis as a gag member?
He's better than a lot of all the rest of that movie, I think.
What about a beautifully shaggy?
P. Suzy.
Yeah.
Yeah.
He's dead, so I can't really see anything that bad about him.
It's the Dharma Surfer.
It's just bad.
And I don't understand why people insist that it's good. I love it. Yeah, but you're wrong. So I don't know. I mean I feel like
people get really defensive about point break so I won't go too far down this
path but. I feel like it's like cilantro either it's gonna hit with you or
it's not it's gonna task like Wasn't it... Didn't Catherine Bigelow direct point
break? Did I make that up? Who did? Near dark, right? Yeah. And zero dark 30. What was
she thinking? This movie's ridiculous. It is ridiculous. Oh man. And Kea Reeves can't run properly.
What mean he can't run properly? Look at him, it looks like he has a load in his pants,
whenever he's running.
Weird, do you think his football years would have made him better?
I'm a big fan of all the John Wick movies
and he's running in those and always looks like,
oh, oh, oh, the whole that, I guess. And homage to that and an emotion movie is like the Wickerman and the Omen.
So there's like those horror nods in it as well.
The original Wickerman, not the remake.
I don't, I didn't, I only saw the one, I only saw the Nichols' tage one.
The real one.
The good one, as you referred to? Yeah, I'm sure. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the. the. the. the the original. the original. the original. the original. the original. the original. the original. the original. the original. the original. the original. the original. the original. the original. the original. the original. the original. the the the the. the the original. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the original. the. the original. the original. the original. the original. the. the original. the original. the. the. the. the original. the. the the the the the the o'. the o'er. the o'er. the o'er. the o'er. the o'er. the o'er. the or. the original. the original. the made Spaced and Shana the Dead and World's End.
I didn't see that. Did you see that?
Mm-hmm. Yeah.
How was that?
It was okay. It was the weakest of the three, I think.
Do you like this better or worse than Shauna the Dead?
Um, I like it better than Shauna the Dead. I like Shaun of the thu, and th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the th. th. th. th. the the the the th. the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. It was because we were talking about it when we were recording the Joseph episode and
he suggested hot fuzz and I was like, hot fuzz, yeah there's murders in that and like
some weird stuff.
Yeah, that's a horror movie.
I'll go with that.
This is also like, bitches long.
It's like two hours.
And there's no need for it. It's like really weirdly paced. I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I. thased. thased. thased. thased. thased. thased. thased. thased. thased. thased. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. th. the. th. th. the. th. th. th. the. th. th. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. It's. It's. It's who the killers are with like 45 minutes to go and then the rest of it's just like a weird action movie.
But in a small town, yeah. Just very strange. I don't know.
So you're following this cop named Nicholas Angel played by Simon Peg, who is ridiculous in this role. I kind of love him in this. And he is like a London cop who is the best cop in London and making all the other cops look bad so they want to send him the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the to to to to to to to the to to the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the action. the the the their action. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the action action action. the action. the action. the action. the action. the action. the action. the action. the action. the action. the action. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the their their the the their action. their action. the the the the the the the the the the kind of love him in this. And he is like a London cop who is
the best cop in London and making all the other cops look bad so they want to
send him to the country. Like you do I guess. And this is where we first, like in
the beginning there's a bunch of cameos from people like Peter Jackson, the director of Lord of the Rings and bad taste is the Santa Claus that stabs him in the hand. I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. He the. He's the. He's the. He's the. He's theeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. the. I the. the Taste is the Santa Claus that stabs him in the hand. Oh I didn't know that. And his girlfriend, his ex-girlfriend Janine is
played by Kate Blanchett. I didn't know that either. Yeah. I just recognize all
the British actors in this movie that I like from like Peep Show, Sophie from
Peep Show and Manny from Black Books. Yes. And you know Martin Freeman. And Martin Freeman. Yeah. And Steve Kugin.
Who's that? He's the second like boss that he meets with. Oh sure. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. I recognize him but I didn't know from what. He's been a bunch of British stuff. Yeah. There's not that many of them to go around it seems. Apparently not. So he is sent to. the name of the town that he sent to. the town. Sanford. the the the British. the British. the British. their. their. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. There. the. the. the. the. Yeah. the. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. the. There's. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. is the name of the town that he's sent to? Sanford Gloucestershire.
Yes, to be a sergeant there in a tiny town.
He does not want to go, but he does go because he's a good cop who does what he's told.
So he's been his piece Lily ride the train to Sanford Gloucester.
Mm-hmm. This is largely a movie thia thia thia thia thia thia thia thia thia thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi to thi to to thi to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be a the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the thea. the to to be a to be a to be a to be to be to be to be police, I think. It seems like the London cops send him away
because they don't want to be policing.
And then he gets sent to this town where nobody's policing.
So I don't know what we're supposed to take away from that.
I do like the idea of sending people away
because they do their job better than you do.
And then like coming and begging for them back at the end. Yeah. So it's basically just a series of homages, it seems.
Yeah.
And referencing other stuff and like there's the neighborhood watch association, which is the NWA.
Is that referencing the rap group?
Okay, just making sure.
Yeah, yeah.
I mean, everything is like, it's just so layered, so densely layered with
references.
Like, Billy Whitelaw, the woman who runs the hotel, played Mrs. Baylock from the Omen, the
Nanny.
Oh, I didn't realize that was her.
Yeah.
And they're like, everybody who's in the neighborhood watches from like other movies, like
other like 70s action movies from England and stuff. Oh. Edward Woodward who's like the old guy at
the end who blows them up with the mine. Oh that's the Wickerman guy? Yes the
Wickerman guy. I didn't know that. Yeah. Maybe I should have like looked
into it. Then of course Timothy Dalton, James Bond is a Skinner. Yeah.
Who like immediately outs himself as the killer. Like the the the there. Like there. Like there. Like there. Like there. Like there. Like there. Like there. Like there. Like there. Like there. there. there. there. there. there. there. there's there's there's there's there's there's there's there's the the the the there's the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the they. Oh. Oh. Oh. Uh. Uh, they would would would would would would they. Uh, uh, uh, uh, they. Uh, they. Uh, they would would would would. Uh, the they would would. Uh, the the the, is Skinner the.
Yeah.
Who would like immediately out himself as the killer?
Like there's never any doubt that he's at least one of the killers, right?
When they're out jogging and he runs up to him and says he's a slasher.
But even like at the first murder scene, where the heads of the actors who played Romeo
and Juliet are found? He rolls up listening to the Dyer straight song for to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to th. th. th. th. th. the song. th. th. th. th. the song. thi. thi. Yeah, the song, the song, the song, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, the their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, th.. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, thi. And, thi. And, thi. And, thi. And, thi. And, thi. And, ti. And, toge. And, together, thi. And, thi. And, they. And, they. And, they. And, they. And, they. played Romeo and Juliet are found. Yeah, yeah. He rolls up listening to the dire straight song.
Can we talk about that dire straight song for a minute here?
Please.
It's a perfect song.
Really?
I love that song.
I've, okay, this woman breaks up with him and he gets back at her by writing
the most beautiful, crushing ball.
It's perfect.
I am not familiar with the song. Oh my god listen to it. Also when I was like 14 a dude put it on a mix tape for me
In like the perfect spot like side B track one. Oh, yeah, I was like oh you nailed it It's try to to be crazy, but in that moment you nailed it. He could make a good mix tape. Yeah, yeah listen to that song. It's cussing. Yeah, listen to that song. It's? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. the the the th. the the the the the th. the th. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the. the. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. the the the the the the the the th. the th. th. the the th. th. the the the the the the th. the the the the the the the the thethink there should be five of us talking at the same time?
I'd like everybody's opinions.
I can't think you don't know that song.
I'm just dumbstruck. It's crushing.
I know it to hear it, but I'm not like, oh, that's my jam.
I just like, I just love the idea that's just like so sad.
Yeah.
What isn't that against all odds by Phil Collins too?
Isn't that the whole thing?
Oh, I don't know.
Yeah.
Crushingly Said.
I don't know.
That would be my era.
Just eviscerates this woman in like a, um, sad way.
All I can think of a, for dire straits is that song about moving refrigerators.
Sultan's a swing?
When is the time about moving refrigerators?
Money for nothing in the streets?
Yeah, yeah, that one.
We got to move refrigerators.
That's like one of the whole lines.
I'm looking it up.
No, don't bother. This is not a dire straits I'm looking it up. I'm looking it up. No, don't bother.
This is not a dire straits podcast.
We are not wearing bandanas right now.
Yeah, and that guy's style is so weird.
I love him.
I like dire straits.
I don't care who knows it.
I think that's, is that about selling things?
Yeah, it's selling your, selling your music on MTV.
Okay, see.
Well, what about Salton's a swing though?
I'm not, yeah, I never got into them.
Oh, geez.
Now you're just looking at pictures of them.
That guy's style is so weird. Yeah, it's so cool. Every time I
wear a band-aii I like that, I think I'm in dire straits. So you don't think you're
booker from 21 Jump Street? I know that's not for me. That's not the thing I know. I know dire
straight. Anyway, that was a three-minute digression about... About tire streets. Surprisingly we've never done that before. Yeah. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, like, like, like, like th th th th minute digression about their streets. Surprisingly, we've never done that before.
Yeah, I mean, no time like the present.
So we're just going to, we go through the town
and we meet these cast of characters
who are very plastic and very plastic
very plastic when interacting with Nick Angel.
Yeah. Except for, well, there's, the cops are very antagonistic towards him and the townsfolk are very plastic and like welcoming him but there's like an air of I don't
know, violence and antagonism to what everything they're doing. Do you think
so? I think so, like everything's a double entendre. The whole like, you know,
in Shona the dead they do the thing where in the first five minutes they lay out the entire movie. Right.
There's that opening conversation that they have that just lays out everything and they kind
of do that every time he meets somebody.
Yeah, that's true.
Because the doctor is kind of like threatening him and it's like I hope I don't see
you very often and that are talking about his arse. Yeah. And then later they're talking about his horse.
Oh, right.
There's a horse in this movie, by the way.
Treated intimidatingly also.
You know?
I saw a video the other day of a horse kissing a kitten.
What the fuck?
It was just given a little rubs.
Yeah, I probably ate it when the camera went th is th, I don't know if that would be comfortable or not.
No.
I'm going to go with no.
Poor kitten.
Missy's convinced that they have very velvety soft lips, though.
What, horses?
Yeah. That's a fucked up thing to say.
Why would you think that?
Why would you say that?
Missy, why?
You shouldn't tell people that.
The first big action that Nick Angel does in this town is arrest all of the kids that are at the bar getting drunk.
I like how the kids keep getting younger as he's looking at them too.
The last one has braces and acne and this like 13 maybe?
But he walks into the one kid and he's like, what year were you born in? The kid goes, 1965?
Yeah, I'm 37 years old, whatever he says.
But that's where we're first introduced to the phrase, the greater good?
I also didn't think that there was a drinking age in England.
18. I didn't think that was true.
Yeah. I thought you could drink if whatever you wanted. As far as I know it's always been 18.
I don't know.
I don't know why I always thought it was whenever you wanted.
Yeah, the greater good.
So every time someone says the greater good, somebody else repeats it, like throughout the
entire film. Yeah. They keep talking about how this town wins Village of the year all the time, and apparently this is a very very very very thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi. thi. thi. thi. I thi. I thi. I thi. I'm thi thi thi thi thi thi thi. I thi thi thi thi thi thi thi. I thi. I thi. I thi. I thi. I thi. I thi. I the I thi. I the I the I the I the. I the. I the. I the. I the. I the. I the. I the. I the. I the. I the. I the. I the the the the the the theate theateate the theate theate the the the the the the the the the the the the thout the entire film. Yeah. They keep talking about how this town wins
Village of the Year all the time,
and apparently this is a very big deal to them.
And basically all the people that are dying
are somehow bringing like shame to the town.
Yeah, this is the big reveal at the end, yeah.
People are going missing throughout the fridge magnate. There's the florist who's murdered. I didn't understand the florist story arc. So like the fridge guy gets murdered because his house
doesn't fit the rustic aesthetic of the village. Right. The Romeo and
Juliet get murdered because they're bad actors in the play. Okay. But why the
the flower lady was like just gonna sell her land or something? She was
to tak her floral acumen to another town.
But by killing her, they still don't have her floral acumen.
But neither does anybody else.
That's very stupid.
It's true.
I don't think their plan was very well thought out because they also killed all the kids.
Yeah, those were somebody's kids. It seems like there's only like 35 5 the the their their thiiiii their their their their th. th. their th. their th. thirty thirty thirty thirty thirty thirty thirty thirty thirty thirty thirty thirty thirty thirty thirty thi. thi. thioleoleol- th. th. th. thiol- thiol- thiol- thiol- thiol- thiol- thiol- thiol- thiol- thiol- th. thiol- th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thiii. thi. thiolorouin. thi. thiiiiiiiii. thi. thi. thi. thi. the kids that got arrested. Yeah, those were somebody's kids. It's true.
It seems like there's only like 35 people living in this village.
And they just swiped out an entire generation of them.
Also, they could be the best village, which is just, oh, man.
And their main nemesis is the living statue.
Yeah. That's some, I sort of don't disagree with them on that. Like, that's a dumb thing
to be a living statue. Like, what if your skill is just standing very still? Well, it's very
useless. Unless you're in New York City. Where people just do that shit? All the,
I'm trying to think of like, what, do something, like learn, learn something. Play a guitar or something. God, imagine if that was all that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, th that, that, trying to think of like, it's useless. Like, do something, like learn something. Do something.
Play a guitar or something.
God, imagine if that was all your good at, though.
Your resume is just like, do you need someone to stand really still?
I like never go to the bathroom.
I don't even blink.
So there's this almost romantic relationship between Nick Angel and Danny, who is played by Nick Frost, Danny Buttermin.
In the world's end, does Nick Frost play like the dumb fat guy to Simon Peg's like alpha guy?
They swap it.
Oh, okay, good. I was hoping they would.
Simon Peg is kind of, he's the fuck up.
Good. And Nick Frost is the dude's got his shit together.
I feel like that would be a hard role to always play, the dumb sidekick.
Apparently they did, they did not get along very well when they made this movie.
Oh really? Yeah, they were having a bunch of squabbles on the set and stuff.
But then they made other movies, so...
Yeah, well... They figured it out.
Yeah, well... Yeah. But I like that Danny's that Danny that Danny that Danny that Danny that Danny that Danny that Danny that Danny that Danny that Danny that Danny that like that Danny's character was originally two characters.
There was originally a love interest for Nick Angel.
And they decided that didn't work, so they just took dialogue from the love interest and just stuck it on to Danny.
Oh really?
And that's why their relationship seems oddly romantic.
Yeah, there is like a come on in and have a drink scene, which ends with them watching Bad Boys 2 and Point Break. Yeah.
Which I would assume is your nightmare ending to any hangout session?
Yeah, that's when you go home and say no, of course not.
Have you ever seen Bad Boys 2?
No.
Ah.
It's a ridiculous movie.
I'm sure.
I don't need to see it to know that.
I just don't like these bang, bang shoot them up. No, no, th, the the the the the the th, the th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. that, that, which that, that, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. Which, th. Which, th. Which, th. Which, th. Which, th. Which, th. Which, th. Which, th. Which, th. Which, th. Which, th. Which, th. Which, tha. Which tha. Which that, that. Which theea. thean. thean. thoooooooooooooooooooooooo. And, tha. Which tha't like these bang, bang, shoot, them up. No?
Not at all.
No, what's the point?
Bang, bang, shoot them up?
Stupid.
I do have the note that Nick Angel and Katie like action movies just as much?
Yeah, I feel like I'm a Nick Angel when you get down to it.
That's pretty cool.
Although I don't really like rules. I don't like rules. No one can tell me the rules.
I'm more of a Patrick Swayze.
God, that's a thing to aspire to.
Such a locks, such a dancer.
RIP.
Yeah.
Oh, too soon.
He was taken from us too early.
Oh, for sure.
Yeah.
There is the fence jumping scene, which is replicated from Sean of the dead.
Oh, okay.
But this time, Nick Frost just runs through the fence.
Yeah.
And apparently after he runs to the fence, he turns around and faces the camera so that you know it was him and not a stuntman.
Oh, I didn't notice that.
Well, thank you for running through that fence for me, Nick Frost. How brave of you?
I too love the, when they're doing Romeo and Juliet, they're doing Baz Lerman's Romeo and Juliet.
Yeah.
Although, did that movie end with Loveful?
I loved that.
I really want to see a stage performance of Romeo and Juliet
that ends with a musical number of Loveful.
It's so shocking and so wonderful when it happens like it's just like the coast black then they come back up and they're just
singing the cardigans. Yeah. I hate that for me on Julianne movie. It's terrible.
It's so bad. Why would anybody make that? I've ever seen in the movie theater
being like no no no no no. I remember working at a borders when that guy that that the movie I was I they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they they they're they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they're they're they're the tho tho tho. tho. theeeeeeeeeeeeee. they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're That guy that I was talking to at Borders, like,
did you love that movie?
I was like, no, I thought it was terrible.
He's like, I thought you were like into like cool stuff.
Is that cool stuff?
I guess so.
Weird.
I saw that Northam Hall, wasn't that cool?
But they called the 70s.
Who is Bazlerman?
Is it the sunscreen guy?
The one?
The sunscreen guy?
The sunscreen?
Yes, he is the sunscreen guy.
All right.
But he directs things in.
Like, what does he do?
Moulin Rouge? No.
The Romeo and Juliet movie.
A bunch of other stuff.
Fuck him.
I'm done with him.
It's hot up here and I'm done with him.
It's true.
I don't know.
I think there's a ton of really great lines throughout this movie.
Like when they're talking about about about woman who's playing Juliet is interested in older guys,
and Danny remembers that a friend of his in high school fingered her up by the frog pond?
Yeah. The duck bond.
The duck bond?
Yeah. That's right because it's based on a story from Edgar Wright's real life where someone thronged. It's gross all around. I mean this this this this this this this this this this this this this th. It's this th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th th. th th is thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi th. th. th. th. th is thi. th is thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thii thiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii thi thi thi thi thi thi they changed to duck pond because it wasn't as gross. That's gross all around. It's true. I mean this is an undeniably funny movie. I like that the
swan keeps showing up. A big fan of that. Oh what it's called in by Stephen Merchant and his
name is a PI taker or PI Staker. Staker. Yeah, iss taker. I also like that Bill Bailey's character
seems to be more than one person.
It's a set of twins.
Yeah.
OK, I couldn't figure out why he was sometimes curly
and sometimes not.
There's even a, like, both twins are reading different books by the same author
who wrote under two different names.
I didn't notice that. Ian Banks and Ian M Banks. So it was like, it was like reference,
that's what I mean by just being like, all the references are like multi-layered. That's funny.
I like Sean of the Dead a lot, but I think that this movie is like them at their writing,
like the top of their writing game. Yeah. Because I think that the jokes are just so on point throughout this. I would try to recreate them but I will not do them justice. Nah. We don't do jokes, not on this show. There is a lot of violence with farm
implements I thought you would be into that. Yeah pretty into that you know I'm a
big fan of that. I liked also the sea mine which you don't see a lot of
or ever I'd never seen them before in my life and didn't know they existed. Oh really? Yeah. What are they for?
So, like on the ends of them are little buttons?
So when ships bump that they float.
Uh-huh.
So they float on anchors in the ocean.
Oh, I see.
So when ships come by, they hit them.
That's a good it. Yeah. The one being the
Hogwords janitor guy. I thought it was filch. I thought it was filch, but I wasn't sure.
Filch, that's his name. Argus filch. I'm watching a lot of Harry Potter. I was gonna say you're a big Harry Potter fan. I read all seven books in a period of like
three months for no reason. Wow.
Like a couple months ago.
Oh really?
I started listening to the audio books narrated by Stephen Frye.
Oh, nice.
Yeah, which are excellent.
I started listening to them when I was running a lot.
And then I stopped running and decided to just read them.
Yeah, so just read them. Yeah, yeah, yeah. But you've enjoyed them? Yeah, they're fine. Yeah. That's fine. It was like once I was in I had to finish, you know.
But the movies are good. They're exciting. I really like the third one a lot. Is that a prisoner of
Ascaban? There's a scene in this movie that reminded me of that actually at the end when they're showing all the people getting arrested. Or maybe it's a scene from the fourth movie, but where there's like the pictures in the newspaper
of all the escapees from Ascaban.
And everyone's like, ah, yelling and hold it in their mug shots.
And I was like, oh, that's what this movie is doing.
I love the mug shot scene.
So silly.
Old people pissed off.
I love that everybody in the neighborhood watch is just packing the most heat imaginable.
Yeah, like in bike baskets and like all these unexpected places.
A woman in the bike basket is like two like nine in her handguns in foam in her basket.
Just covered with like a silk scarf too. Like you're riding a bicycle. I could fall off at any time.
Are you a Game of Thrones fan? I saw
some of them. I read some of them too. It's like very bad. The... Sorry. No, it's fine. I'm not a huge fan. But the, the, the dog? The one like... Saxon? What is it? No, no, no, in Game of Thrones. There's the guy who's called
The Dog. Oh, oh, the hound or whatever, yeah, yeah, yeah. He is a... He's lurch, or lurch is him.
Oh, really? Yeah. They're the same dude. That's funny. Yarb. Yarb. That's his only line.
Yarp. But I love the scene where Simon Peg is
pretending to be him and he gets asked a yes or no question that he has to answer
no to and he goes, nar. And it seems to be the right answer. It seems to be the right answer.
Oh yeah there he is, look at that guy. Wow six foot six. That's a big dude. I'm also six foot six. That's something we've th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi's thi's th. thi's the the thi's the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. th. Yeah. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the 6'6. That's something we've never told you.
He lives down the road with his mom and his sister.
Same person.
So the reveal is that basically you think it's just the grocery store guy.
Right. But it's actually like the entire neighborhood watch who's in on this.
And so is Frank Butterman the chief? Yeah, it lost his
mind after his wife died. Okay, she died because of the village of the year? I think
so. Okay, just making sure. Yeah. That part's also very cozy mystery. Very like,
foils, war, midsummer murder and all that stuff I mean
the one couple in this is named Joyce and Tom the proprietors of the inn
which is the name of the couple like the midsummer murders main characters
oh yeah so I assume that that has to be a midsummer murders reference
this movie kind of like blends everything British into it andthen bringing in American action films on top of that.
Which is kind of messy.
It gets a little, it's a little like, you think?
Yeah, a little bit.
They're difficult things to mesh.
Yeah, I mean it's just, it just gets like,
the absurdity just keeps getting
ratcheted up the whole time. Yeah. So yes, the reveal is the the the the reveal is the the reveal is the the their. T. T. It is the reveal is their. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's, it's, it's, it's a the reveal. It's a little. It's a little. It's a little. It's, it's a little, it's a little, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's a little. It's a little. It's a little. It's, it's, it's, it's, it. It's, it. It's, it. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's a. It's a little. It's a little. It's a little. It's a little. It's a little. It's a little. It's a little. It's a little. It's a the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the like town elders are in on this, which I also love because there's a lot of scenes where these cloaked figures are running, but it
turns out they're all like octogenarians that are running around. Yeah, and
it has sort of that scream vibe of like, like I said, like the cloaked
figure running around in daylight. Yeah. Because one when the flower shop lady the cloaked figure just like runs out of the store and through some floaked. Like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the. So, the street like just in the middle of the goddamn day. And the like that
ridiculous like mystery is set up where it's actually two people that are
running because you know like and so it would have to work out perfectly that
you'd run out this back door and there'd be somebody else waiting right
there in the same cloak you know right it's very silly yeah yeah for sure but then th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th thus that tho thus thus that tho tho the tho the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th the th th the th th th th tho tho tho tho thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo yeah for sure. But then it shows out the Danny's in on it too. Yes. So were you sad? Initially, yeah, yeah, yeah. I watched
this movie a ton of time so it's kind of hard for me to remember my initial act but I remember just being like, oh come on. Yeah. But it turns out he's sort of not in on it because he loves Nick Angel. Yeah. And I keep putting him to call him Chris Angel, I'm sorry.
Mind freak.
That guy's the absolute worst.
Yeah.
I was about to say, oh, he died.
But he didn't die. I don't know why I thought he did.
Did one of them guys die?
One of them magician types?
No, I don't know, who cares? Not soon enough, as far as I'm concerned.
Magicians are up there with a invisible,
not invisible statues, human, human.
What is it living statues?
I can't see you would have a problem with invisible statues.
No, invisible statues, I just don't even know about.
The magic's, man.
no thiiiii.
to their times, I today. What are you doing? Did you like magic when you were a kid? No. I can't remember a time when I did.
Once I was in a bar and a magician came up
and stole my friends a watch and then gave it back,
but he's like, look, I have your watch.
And it was like, you mother fucker.
Like, you're not a, that's not magic that's fucking pickpocketing.
Magicians.
Just doing tricks tr tricks tr tricks tr tricks tr tricks tr tricks tr tricks tr tricks tr tricks tr tricks tr tricks tr tricks tr tricks tr tricks tr tricks tr tricks tricks tricks tricks tricks tricks tricks tricks tricks tricks tricks tricks tricks tricks at like the bar at Nakama, like, go home.
I don't want that.
Nobody wants that.
Nobody wants that, Alan.
Nobody likes magic.
That can't be true.
I feel like that's what all of Las Vegas's economy is built around.
No, I think that's gambling, which is a different kind of magic, where people are
tricked into, like let's play a game okay okay I have a bunch of
money okay and you have a little bit of money sure sure sure give me some of
your money okay and maybe I'll give you some on mine but I might not will you give
me cards in the in between maybe maybe maybe or maybe you just put it
to a machine and so boo boo boo boo boop and maybe I'll give you money but will it the noise and flash at me yes yes oh okay okay you want to try to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the just like to just like to just like to just like to just like to just like to just like. Do it like. Do it like. Do it like. Do it like. Do it like. Do it like. Do to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to. Do to. Do to. Do to. Do to. Do to. Do to to to to to to to to to do it like, to to do like, to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to park in that parking lot for pirates
and pit games.
So you walk through the casino?
I would use their bathroom because it's super clean.
I'm sure.
Much better than going outside or using a porta-pottie.
So I would go in to do that.
That's it.
I went to Atlantic City once because I have a friend, well Dennis. That lover of holonotes. Loves that holonotes. Right now, Dennis is just pounding his fist into a table.
And he wanted to go to Atlantic City.
So I went, went to the Taj Mahal.
Oh, really?
I thought that was in India.
Well.
Or in the North Hills of Pittsburgh, great Indian buffet.
And the carpets were all like thread bear from like old
ladies walking back and forward throwing their nickels into a machine? It's
very depressing. Not not for me. Yeah. I'm just too cheap. Yeah I'm just too
cheap to gamble. I'm too cheap to gamble. I throw my money away on other
dumb things that I could hold in my hands later. Sure. Yeah the only real gambling I'll put tho the tho the tho the the tho tho tho tho tho the tho tho tho tho the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the theateate the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the theeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeean thean thean thean thean thean thean theeeean theeeee put money in is things where I have a chance, like a guessing of things, like a and like a like a
March Madness bracket. I gotcha. You know. You let me throw darts at a balloon at
like a circus sideshow. Totally reasonable. That's totally reasonable.
That's totally reasonable. Put your money in. Because then you can walk away with the cuddly monkey this movie th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. the thi. thi. the thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. Yeah.
How about every time Danny's excited and he claps?
And he does that monkey clap?
Yeah, he does that in Shauna the Dead, too, I feel.
It's like an armpit clap.
Why does he do that?
Yeah, I guess to show that he's dumb.
And there's like a little, like a BB gun shooting range. And Angel's, when Danny like pays for him to do it or whatever,
and Angel like touches the gun but caresses it?
Yeah, it's very sexual.
And then he knocks out all the targets and gives the monkey to Danny.
And then they have an argument.
And when he goes back to his hotel room, the monkey is soaking wet and laying on his bed. I was like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like dog like dog. That's weird. That's weird and gross. That's also the first time that Danny shoots
the doctor, which is fine. A lot of guns in this movie for a place where they don't
have guns, right? I didn't think they had guns. I think that's supposed to be part of the ridiculousness. Okay, so it's not really like that. that's they. they. they. they. they. their. their. their. their. th. their th. th. th. th. th. th. their th. their th. th. th. th. th. th. that's supposed th. that's their that's their thi. No, but it is on par with Slither.
I feel like they also were a town
with a ridiculous amount of like high-powered firearms,
but for, it's in America, so we're like, yeah,
of course they have that.
Sure, well that makes sense because it's America.
Why wouldn't a police force of 10
just be loaded down with M-16s and whatnot. Yeah, that was in the south, the south, the south, the the the the the the the, th. th. th. th. th. th. thii. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thoom. thoome-sooomeathea, thi. It was in the south. Like, let's be real.
So yes, as we said, all the, like heads of the town are murdering off people who are messing
with them.
And the children, the children are even really messing with them.
And they murdered a one, they murdered another cop too.
Right, the sergeant that was there before Angel. A great big bushy beard!
Oh yeah.
And then we find a guy with a great big bushy beard.
Yeah, they also murder the living statue, which I was fine with.
We've got to get rid of this clown or we'll be up to our balls and jugglers.
I mean, I'm with them.
I don't like to get to get do you come down and juggling? Street attractions.
I mean, I can juggle.
Can you?
Yeah.
Wish I had three balls right now.
If I'll give me something, I'll do it.
It's really easy to learn if you learn with the plastic grocery bags.
It's really easy to learn if you learn to juggle when I was like five. Were you in the circus? No. No. He really could have run with
a fiction that you grew up in the circus. Nah. I feel like I've told too many stories of being

I looked at a pair of scissors and I was like, nope, nope, nope, nope.
I don't have anything.
Books?
What's that?
It's a candle?
That's not going to work.

It's cool, they're in their own little carrying cases. You can't hurt them.
So the town's heads kill-off angel and they send Danny to take his body away.
But it turns out that Danny has faked angel's death by stabbing him with the ketchup packet.
Yeah.
To make it look like he was bloody.
Yeah.
That's like maybe the only scary-ish scene in the movie is like when they're under the, in
like the tunnel, under the, um, is it under a cemetery or something?
It's like a castley cemetery churchyard type deal.
Yeah, some British shit. And there's all these just dead bodies down there, which are not well hidden, but I guess
they don't need to hide them well because the police are in on it, right?
You think they could still be like, I don't know.
I don't know.
And there seems to be varying degrees of in on it, the two Andes?
Because Danny doesn't know that I think the rest of the cops in town are in on it too like the two Andes? I don't think so. I really didn't think they
were I thought they were because they they like get excited eventually to do
police stuff. It's true. And I didn't know if thatogynist or Britain was super misogynist and shitty, all female police
officers were just called Doris. Cool. Yeah, so they were like, all the
all the cops, the cop uniforms. Cool. Yeah, so thi. that's pretty funny I guess.
And apparently everybody's, all the cops, cop uniforms are like older cop uniforms. So, yeah. But yeah, Doris. That's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's th th. That's the they. That's they. That's they. That's they. That's they. That's the cop uniforms they're wearing are like older cop uniforms. Okay. So, yeah, Doris, there's my fun fact about the British police.
Yeah, that's a good one.
Thanks Wikipedia.
So then Angel steals Danny's car or he gives it to him.
And then he's driving out of town when he stops at a gas station and sees a rack of
action movies, which inspire him to turn around and drive back to the town.
And get a horse.
Get a horse while he wrecks his car driving into the one farmer's car.
Right.
And bloodies the old lady's nose.
Yeah. Right. And bloodies the old lady's nose.
And then they have gotten a cache of guns from Filch.
From Filch, yeah.
And so their lotters are filled with guns and he goes and raids that.
I like that the code is 999 by the way.
Which I didn't realize was their 911.
It's their 911.
Oh, you go to watch British crime Shows. They're always dial on 999-9. I've watched a lot of foil, but there's not a lot of phone calls.
No, not making a lot of emergency calls. Yeah. And then, yeah, then an action movie breaks out of the movie.
This is where it lost me. I was just like, come on. I think I just wasn't expecting it. I just didn't know it was coming and I was like, come on. Are you going, Alan said this was a horrible. Yeah, you promised me horror.
When is this going to become a harm? Well, there's there is a lot of gore.
Yeah. There is the the omen homage where the, uh, they pushed the top of the church steeple onto that guy's face. I like that. And then th th th th th th th and he kind of looks like the guy from Silent Hill with the pyramid head.
I thought the same thing.
I love that like two seconds where he's staggering before he hits the ground.
Yeah, I liked it.
It's like, ugh, oh, that's so gross.
And then there's the, when Rotten Tomatoes, so that's something.
I mean, I liked it, it just wasn't what I thought it was going to be.
I thought it was going to be Shawna the Dead with cops.
Yeah. Which it's not.
No, but it is like Shona the Dead where it's like,
it's not parodying those movies.
Sure.
Sure. The Son of the Dead is never making fun of zombie movies.
Right.
Yeah, this keeps being referred to as a parody,
but unless it's a parody of like British Village Life,
which I guess I could see,
because they do keep playing the King's song.
That song is so good. Yeah, it's pretty good. Not as good as Dire Strays Romeo and to thia thia thian thian my my my my my my my to to to thian my thian my thian my thian my thire and thire and thire and thire and thire and thire and thire and thire and thire. thire. thire. thire. thi. thi. thir thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi listen to it and you will cry. You probably won't cry, but I listened to it after I watch this movie and I cried. Because I just get thinking about how
crushing it is. And then I listen to all the songs that make me cry and once I have them on a
playlist, it's really good. I have that playlist too. It's Simon and Garfunn't. Is I see a darkness by body Prince Billy on yours? No. Oh God, everything hurts.
Because everybody hurts.
Is that on there?
That was beautiful vibrato, by the way.
Thank you.
Is that song on there?
No, because I listen to that all the time after I regularly play it when the pirates
lose really badly. I just cued up on my phone. So it's like, just to rob on the couch. the ce to me to me to me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me me to me me to me the ca. the thiiii. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to th. Oh. th. th. th. th. th. to th. th. to th. to to th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that, that, to, to, to, to, to, to, to to, to to it's just to rob on the couch it's just comedic to me at this point
I kind of feel that way about REM in general comedic yeah really lost their
luster for me really you can't go back and listen to the old stuff I mean
I'm such a fake new stuff do they no what, I'm sorry to hear that. It's okay. It happens to move on from bad sometimes.
Oh, geez.
Maybe you should move on a dire strait.
Give it a try.
Man, oh man.
Katie.
Yeah.
Do you want to move on to the rating space?
You want to rate this?
I do want to rate rate rate rate rate rate rate rate rate rate rate rate rate rate rate rate rate rate rate rate rate th rate th rate th rate th rate th rate th rate to rate this. I am hung out with a kid who was from Orlando in college
when I was in college and he had this like very strange accent and he would always
say run this which was like like you were going to get ready to party we're gonna
run this so today we're gonna write this sorry if you're in Florida as a parody of
that guy. Do you want to go first for me right this?
Sure.
I liked this movie.
I thought it was very funny.
I love British Village Crime, so it's perfect for me in that sense.
Not super into action movies.
And I think I was just expecting something else with this.
So when it was over I was like, huh.
But I would definitely watch it again, just not to think about it as a horror movie,
but I'll give it a seven and a half.
Oh, nice.
Yeah.
That's my right, this?
So while I'm watching this, I was just going,
oh, fuck, oh, fuck I fucked up.
This isn't a horror movie. And then I was like, it's kind of a horror movie. It's, it. It's, it. It's, it. It's, it. It's, it. It's, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi, thi, thi, that, that, that, that, that, th. th. th. th. th. th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. that, that, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's, that's. th horror movie in the same way that the Wickerman remake
is a horror movie.
Strongly disagree.
Okay.
How to get burned?
Right, because there's no like big horror payoff.
The payoff is an action movie.
So that's where I fucked up.
That's where my, this movie is this and then I fucked up. But I love this movie. Like I said, I think, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, it, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, I love this movie. Like, like I said, I think I,
it's neck and neck with Sean,
but I think it edges a little bit ahead
because I think it's so much funnier.
It is much funnier, I will agree with that.
But I would give this movie a 9.75.
Whoa, I don't think you've ever and for me it's kind of like, I'm not a fan of the World's End, which is the last movie.
What's that about?
Describe that to me in under 50 words.
Okay, it is their sci-fi movie.
And it's basically invasion of the body snatchers action movie.
That doesn't appeal to me.
But it's not as funny and it doesn't pay off as well. And it's it's their it's their it's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's their they's they's their they's their their they's their their their their their. their th. thi. thi. though. thi. thathea. I's th. I's th. I's th. I's th. I's th. I's th. I's th. I's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's to me. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I's th. I's the. I's the. I's the. I'm. I'm. I'm. I'm. the. I'm thea. I thea. I thea. I thea. I thea. I thea. thea. thea. thea. I'm. I'm thea. I'm. I well. And it's their last movie that they're doing in the Cornetto, which is the ice cream cones
that they eat.
Oh, sure.
So in Sean of the Dead, they eat the ice cream cone and this one they eat them as well.
So the last one is the last in their Cornetto trilogy.
And it's just and I'm sorry that I lied to
I mean, we all tell ourselves lies.
It's true, April Fools?
It's still April.
It is still April.
420.
I'm getting in there under the window.
Under the window as they say.
I'm also thinn't working too well.
But Katie, do you know what is working very well?

Unlike the other ones which why I will not have been a garbage movie.
Demi Gorgon Magin.
Eggos.
The faceless creature that stalks both the upside down and the real world, cast in solid
resin and individually hand-painted.

Yeah, you're gonna fuck this guy up.
Although these are high quality things, I feel like they're mean to last.
But I'm a monster.
That's true.
Jason hand sculpts and paints all of these.
