It's thi. It's thi. It's thi. It's thi. It's thi. It's, we were going to talk about a movie this week, but instead we're just going to talk about questionable spring fashion. It's Spring Fashion Week. Spring Fashion
Starting point is 00:00:46 Week? What are those Kardashians, huh? That one has hair? So, Katie, what are here to talk about this week? This week we're talking about the 1982 Horror Anthology Creep-Syes. Yes. Classic. It was really, I loved it. th. going, I was blowing my load right now, I loved it. Man, I just want to, from right out of the gate, I have to say that this movie, it's so crucial to me as a child. Yeah. Yeah. How old were you when you first saw it? Do you think? 11, 12? Seems like that was a really formative time for you in your horror fandom. It really was already a huge fan already started reading Stephen King by this point. Okay. And I was already a huge fan of Night of Living Dead. Yeah, this is like the perfect marriage. Yeah, so like this movie and John Carpenter's early o'er, like these films like so fucking for? Like what John Carpenter films do you like?
Starting point is 00:01:41 Um, you know, Big Trouble and Little China a lot. Yeah lot. I'm a huge fan of, what else did he do? I don't know. There's something, it's on the tip of my tongue. I talk about something enough that people mention it on the internet. What is it? Is it Halloween? He did do Halloween? He did not. That's a carpenter. And the mouth of madness is good? It's later. That's it. No, that's not it.
Starting point is 00:02:05 No. We can keep this going for days. It's right on the tip of my tongue. Well, let's come back to that. All right. Let's table this discussion. So those movies, and you know, Return to the living dead. These movies are just so formative and, you know, and you can tell, it's how I ended up being what I am today. Yep. I love really hyper-colored things.
Starting point is 00:02:29 I love dumb, dumb jokes. Yeah, which is okay. Yeah, this movie is hilarious. We had the discussion whether or not it's a horror comedy. Yeah. 12-year-old me would only say it's a horror movie. You found it very frightening? I mean no, but... Maybe when you're a kid. Yeah, maybe when I was a kid. I mean there's some scares in it. Oh yeah, yeah, see there, yeah. But I also think it's really funny. I mean I'm an adult now. I'm an adult now. But I thought it was really funny. Oh, oh, an adult now? That's awesome! You're an adult now? Yeah, Alan, I'm an adult now. So this movie is directed by George Romero. Yes. Pittsburgh's own.
Starting point is 00:03:12 Pittsburgh's own. And the special effects are Tom Savinie, my neighbor, Tom Savinie. Your neighborhood zone? I just moved closer to Tom Zavini actually. I just couldn't stand to be like more than a couple blocks from them. We talked about seeing him at the pool that one year, right? Yeah, we could talk about it again though, because that was in the intro episode and I think a lot of people probably didn't see that. Yeah, so we were at the pool one day and I just looked at Katie,
Starting point is 00:03:30 went, huh, Tom, and he's laying, cod piece from Dust Hill Dawn with a gun that flips out. Yeah, it was weird that he was just wearing trunks. He also makes an appearance at the end of this movie as the Garbage Man, right? That's him, yeah? It's pretty great, yeah. He shows up in a lot of the like Romero movies that he did special effects in. Yeah, he's in Dawn of the Dead with Rose McGowan where she gets like a gun for a leg. Oh yeah, um, Planet Terror? He's in it for a really long time. Yeah. Yeah, he's on a bad actor. Oh, he's great. I love him. Yeah, he's in Maniac. He blows his own head up in Mania. Oh yeah. And that's our Tom Savinia hour. Kudos to Tom Savin'ii. Cunn. Cudosito. C. Cudos. C. Cudos. C. C. C. C. C. C. to to thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. He. He. He. He's. He's. He's. He's hea. He's he's he's he's in it's in it's in it's in it's in it's in it. He's in it's in it's in it's in it's in it's in it's in it's in it's in it he's in it he's in it he's in it he the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the tter tter tter tter tter tter tter tter tter tterm tterms. He's in it te. He's in te. He's in te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te. te for being there. Do we want to do a quick break? Oh, wait, this movie was written by, a lot of it was written by Stephen King.
Starting point is 00:04:28 Oh, and he's done stuff, right? He's um, oh man, something, something I've seen. Yeah, he was, I mean, I can't express how crucial reading Stephen King rules t-shirt from Monster Squad? I feel like I haven't seen you wear it all the time. I wore it like three days ago. And he acts and he acts in this movie also. Oh fantastic. He's a really funny. I didn't, I guess I'd never see, is this, he doesn't act much. No, he's in nightwriters too, but I don't know what else. Like he's really up. Yeah, he chooses the scenery very hard in his story here. Yeah. And I also should say that around that age I was also a huge fan of like the horror comics of the 50s that were getting reprinted then. And this is totally an homage to all of those. Yeah, I think I have a note here that this was the 80s kids' dream movie and had horror comics and thead thead thead th th th had th had th had th had th had their th out th out th out th out th out their th out that this was the 80s kids dream movie and had horror comics
Starting point is 00:05:25 and Ted Danson. I love Ted Dancing. This is like peak Ted Danson too. Oh my God. And peak Leslie Nielsen. Oh, RIP. Before he became a comedic actor when he was just a, he was a serious actor doing comedic roles.
Starting point is 00:05:39 Really? Yeah, I mean he was an airplane at this point. Yep. And, and, th. And, th, th, th, th, th, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I was, I, I was, I was, I was, I was, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th. Yeah, I th, I th, I th, I, I, I, I, I, th, th, th, th, th, th, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I th. Yeah, I th. Yeah, I th. Yeah, I th. Yeah, I th. Yeah, I th. Yeah, I th. Yeah, I th. Yeah, I th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th at this point. Yep. But it wasn't like the fart machine, Leslie Nielsen. Like, it wasn't just like. The Leslie Nielsen and O.J. Simpson combo of the naked gun franchise. Rough times. RIP, both of them. One's dead in real life, one's dead inside. So this movie is an anthology that is sort of tie togued together by a the the th., th., th., th. A, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, the. the. the. to, toe. toe. to, the toe the the the the the the the the. the. the. the that is sort of tied together by a kid reading a comic book
Starting point is 00:06:08 basically. And his dad is a fucking monster. Yeah. Like, monster. He's abusive. He's the most monster. He's the most monster. A movie filled with monsters, he's the most realistic monster.
Starting point is 00:06:22 Tom Atkins plays the dad, Pittsburgh's own. The mom I think is from Pittsburgh. I looked her up but I couldn't a a a a kid a kid a kid a kid a kid a kid the kid the kid the kid the kid the kid the kid the kid the kid the kid the kid th. the kid th. th. th. th. A th. A kid th. He's thi. He's thi. He's thi. He's the most realistic monster. Tom Atkins plays the dad, Pittsburgh's own. Oh, the mom, I think is from Pittsburgh. I looked her up, but I couldn't find any information about her, but at one point she says, he's Dan Stairs. And I was like, oh, she's from Monroeville. Yeah, Tom Atkins has been stuff like, he was in Halloween three, he's in the fog. He's in a, he's in a, he's in a, he's in a, he's in a, he's in a ton a ton a ton a ton a tons, tons, tons, tons, tom, tom, tom, tom, tom, tom, tom, tom, tom, he's in a, he's, he's, he's, he's in, the tom. He's, tom. He's, he's, he's, he's, he's, he's t. He's t. He's t. He's tom, he's th. He's tom. He's tom. He's tom. He's tom. He's tom. He's tom. He's tom. He's tom. He's tom. He's tom, he's tom, tom, tom, tom, tom. He's tom. He's tom. He's tom. tom. tom. today. today. today. today. today. today. today. today. th. today. of the segments of this. Yeah, yeah. And this is all filmed in Pittsburgh too, except for the shore scenes. Right. It's in like Greensburg and like sort of surrounding suburbs with Pittsburgh.
Starting point is 00:06:53 Yeah, so it starts up with Tom Atkins is Stan, the dad, the angry drunk dead, and Billy is the the Stephen Dorf looking little kid. He did like maybe Stephen Dorf from the pit, the Stephen Dorf looking little kid. He didn't look like maybe Stephen Dorf from the pit, the whole, the gate. I love that movie so much because I love stop. I just love the stop motion and that it's so good. That's another formative like anything with a little kid that's like getting or done. Yeah, oh he's so cute in that movie. I wish he wasn't like just selling e-sigs now or whatever it is that he's doing.
Starting point is 00:07:25 So it starts off with the da being a dick about Billy reading horror comic books. So glad my parents never paid any attention to like what media I was consuming, you know? That's not cool, dad. No, it's totally shitty. And throws the comic book in the garbage. And then Billy goes upstairs and has the moment that every 10-year-old boy wish would happen, the Grim Reaper basically shows up with this one too. He's so happy to see him. He's like, oh terror guys here. Like what? Billy? You should have wet your pants right now. Yeah. Yeah. That character's name is the creep the creeps. I've seen the second one, the second creep show a bunch of times. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah............................................................... Yeah. Yeah..... Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.... Yeah.. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.. Yeah. Yeah.. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah creep show a bunch of times. Oh really? This is like my Ghostbusters thing. I've seen Ghostbusters two a million times and I've only seen Ghostbusters one
Starting point is 00:08:11 like a handful of times. Oh really? So like ghost idea. How does that they were on like I had taped them off of television a lot you know? I don't know. I've th th th th th th th th th th thin thin thin thin thin like thin like I've thin like I've the thin like I've the thin like I've their thin like thi I've their thi their their their their their their their their like their like their like their like their like their like their like their like their. I've their like their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their th. I've th. I've th. I've th. I've th. I've th. I've th. I've thi thi. I've thi. I've thi. I've thi. I've the. I've teateateateat. I've teat. I've teat. I've teateateateat. I've th. I've theate. I'vethe meeting? I was just picking up the sequels. I think it's just that they were on, like I had taped them off of television a lot, you know. So then it cuts into the first segment which is called Father's Day. Oh, God damn it, this segment's great. Yeah. It's got everything. It's so good. It comes out, this comes out, yeah. well-to-do family who is celebrating Father's Day despite the fact that the patriarch of the family is dead. Right, murdered by their aunt. Yes and they are, and this, oh this features dopey Ed Harris looking like such a dumbass in this this little vignette. Killing it. It's ridiculous. So basically they're smoking cigarettes
Starting point is 00:09:01 and drinking and dancing. Yeah, so. I think I'm just uncomfortable with dancing, Katie. Yeah. That's a weird thing to do. The kill list and this, I'm just like, why would you just dance in your living room? What's going on? I don't understand. You know what you're like, dance like no one's watching? Maybe just don't.
Starting point is 00:09:15 Maybe just don't. Maybe just just read a book like to the the the the the the the well you might want to rock until you drop. Party till your brains fall out? I do have a note here that says, I wish I liked dancing and then underneath it I just wrote, I miss smoking, which I don't remember writing, but I must have felt. That did you deep. That's a shone in flashback. Yes. The father dies demanding his cake.
Starting point is 00:09:47 His father's day cake. His father's day cake. Of his daughter, Badelia. Aunt Badelia, yeah. Who is inexplicably Eastern European? She has the weirdest action. She's fantastic. Yeah, she is great. I just have the note that cigar smoking old ladies are the best.
Starting point is 00:10:01 Yeah, drink a gym beam. Driving. Oh, the 80s. When these things were okay. She shows up at the house and never goes inside the house, just goes to the cemetery that's in the back of the house, which is a huge cemetery for a family. A lot of deads for this family. And goes and hangs up by her dead father's grave and curses him, and yells at him and smokes her cigar. Meanwhile, she keeps th th th th th th th keeps th keeps th keeps th keeps to th keeps to th keeps to to th. She th. th. to thi thi thi thi to thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thoes, thi. the thi. thi. thoes, thoes, the th. the. the their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. the. the. the. the. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. thea. the cigar. Meanwhile she keeps flashing back to him just shouting, I want my cake! Which like, I don't know, we all get like that sometimes you know. And banging his cane making that clackety, claggity noise. Yeah. Sometimes you just want a cake. It's true and sometimes you're an abusive prick about. Well sometimes sometimes we all are, right? Am I right?
Starting point is 00:10:45 So she goes and she sits on his grave and she's getting sloshy, sloshy, nice and drunk and cursing his name until his hand shoots up out of it. Which was great. It got me. Oh, really? Yeah, it got me. That's so awesome.
Starting point is 00:10:59 Yeah. It was good. And that's the end end end end end end. tha. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. tha. th. th. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. tha. thoe. thoe. tho. toe. tho. tho. tho. tho. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the. It's the. It's toe. It's toe. It's toea. toea. toea. toea. toea. toea. toea. toea. toea. toea. S. S. S. Yeah. And that's the end of Bedelia. Yeah. And so then Ed Harris goes, who is like her niece's husband, goes out to look for her. Right. Having never met Aunt Padilia before, he's very excited to meet at Padilia. And he goes out and wanders to the cemetery looking for her. And then goes and stands in front of the father's tomb. Yeah. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:25 As the headstone's being pushed off by an unseen force. Just staring at it. 45 seconds. Till he falls down. Yeah, but then he stares up at it as it's falling on, you know. Well, he's at Harris. He's down to go out. He's plowed to go out. In total, like, 1950s, comic book fashion, you've got the zoom in on his eyes widening
Starting point is 00:11:45 as the things falling on it, and then a splat. Yeah. And then you see the corpse of the dead father walking with his skull approximately eight times the size of a normal human skull. That happens when you died, isn't it? But it looks so awesome. Yeah, Savini really knocked it out of the park on this stuff, like, like, like, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi, th. th. thi, thi, thi, th. th. th. thi, th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, th. th. th. th. And, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, th. And, thi, thi. And, thi. And, thi. And, thi. thi. thin. thi. thin. th thin. t thin. th th thin. th thi. thi. thi. And, thi. And, thi. And, it's great. I mean, Savini really knocked it out of the park on this stuff, like, so good. Yeah, everything in his movie is so good. Yeah, Savini is a master at doing this stuff. He's fantastic. So you see the father walking and then it cuts back into the house and they're kind of like, no, where's it here? I don't give a shit. Yeah. He's your husband. you look for him. I don't don't don't don't don't don't don't don't the the the the the th. I don't the th. I don't th. I don't th. I don't th. the th. th. th. th. th. th. Where's th. Where's th. Where's th. Where's th. Where's th. th. Where's th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. He. He's th. He's thi. He's thi. He's thi. He's thi. He's thi. He's thi. He's thi. He's thi. He's th, is what the brother says. You go look for him.
Starting point is 00:12:25 I don't even like him. I actually love that. Yeah, they're so great and shitty and waspy. It's awesome. I love wasps. They're so weird. Eventually, during this, the father comes in and offs the mother. Yeah. Well, first he offs the cook.
Starting point is 00:12:50 Right. Who like, did Jack shit to him? You know, you know how I feel about the innocent bystanders. Yeah. Okay. And then he kills. Kills the mom. He cuts her head off, and puts in on a plate with some whipped cream and candles and gums walking, the the the the the the the the mom. It cuts her head off, puts it on a plate with some whipped cream and candles,
Starting point is 00:13:05 and gums walking out of the kitchen thing. I got my cake, yeah. And that's that. And then it splashes to like a comic book looking framing of it. Yeah. You get the shocked responses from everybody, and it's totally awesome. Like the colors in this are so fantastic. Yeah, just really beautiful. So that cuts into the second vignette. Yeah, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, the th, th, the th, th, the th, th, th, the th, th, th, the th, th, the th, thi, thi, their, their, the thi, their, I their, I their, I their, I their, I their, I their, I their, I their, I their, I their, I their, I their, I I their, I I their, I I their, I I their, I I their, I their, I, I. I, I, I. So that cuts into the second vignette which is the lonesome death of Jordi Veril and this is really just Stephen King by himself being Stephen King. I love this is probably my favorite. Of them. Although the last one is, no, the last one is my favorite. The last one lost me. We're gonna have to talk about that. I just kind of was like what what this th. th. this th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the the the the the the the the the the th. Yeah. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thooooooo. to. to to thooooooooooooooooooooooo. th. th. th. th. th. th. So. So. So, the last one's my favorite. The last one lost me. We're gonna have to talk about that. I just kind of was like, oh what? But I love this one because of, well, it has the saddest ending out of any of them. Yeah, and you just love those sad endings.
Starting point is 00:13:53 You're just really good down with a sad ending. I'm really saffy guy. I love sad ending. the HP Lovecraft story, the colorful matter space, it's bringing that Stephen King like main hill folk sort of sensibility to it as well. And you meet this bumpkin named to Jordi Verrill, who's standing in his fields, and at night just looking at his crops, I guess. That's what you do.
Starting point is 00:14:18 And a meteorite comes streaming out of the sky, it explodes into his backyard. And he says, holy, oh, Jesus, which is such a great phrase and I am now introducing it into my permanent lexicon. Doesn't he just say like I'll be dipped in pig shit? Yeah, he's a lot of amazing phrases. Holy, oh, Jesus! Wow! So he starts having this fantasy, he goes over to look at the meteor and it's just like probably the size of, you know, a small cantaloupe. And he starts having this fantasy about taking it to like the university
Starting point is 00:14:48 and selling it to the Department of Meteors, is what it seemed to be. And they open a briefcase and it's filled with five to tens, just the Department of Meteors works some small bills. No, the fan, he's so good because the guy's like, I'll give you $50. And he totally gets him up to 200. He hardlines him to 200, yeah. And then after he has his fantasy, he has to go cool off the meteor. So he runs and gets a bucket of water. After he touches it with his fingers and then sucks on his fingers.
Starting point is 00:15:18 And he gets these weird little bumpies on his finger. Yeah. Or so he thinks. And he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he gets he gets he gets he gets he gets tou tou tou tou tou tou tou tou to tooes tooes tooes tooes tooes tooes tooes tooes tooes tooes tooes tooes tooes tooes tooes so he thinks. Or so he thinks. And then he, he dumps the bucket of water on it and his next classic line after the meteor snaps, as he yells at himself and calls himself an ijit. Yeah. And then he's dumping out the house of the meteors and he goes,
Starting point is 00:15:37 oh, meteor shit. Oh, man, he's great. Then he takes it inside where he's been watching Bob Backland take on either Opha or Sika, I don't remember one of the wild Samoans being called by Vince McMan. If this had been a true Pittsburgh homage, I feel like it would have been Bruno, St. Martina. Oh yeah, for sure. He lives down the street from my nunna. They're buddies. Are they really? Yeah, he used to like like to like to like to like to like to like to like to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to their to their to be their their to be their to be their their to be their. their. their. to be their. to bea. their. to be to be to be to be to be their. Starting point is 00:16:07 and he, you know, grew up in Italy and had these like crazy stories of like hiding from, you know, not see, you know, just these crazy stories, yeah. But I never realized he was like, a relatively important guy in the history of sport. I said, I I I I the street and then later I realized like
Starting point is 00:16:27 oh that's Bruno San Martino longest running world champion of W. W. W. That's insane. He still lives there. Oh that's so fantastic. He then he like he would he used to run and then he would jog and now he just walks real slow. It's still doing it. Oh yeah. He was still doing it. Oh yeah. Oh yeah. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. the. the. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that's. that's. the. at a local event recently and my cousin Joe went and saw him and he was like, oh I'm Catherine's grandson and he was like you tell your grandmother I said hello. Your grandfather was a good man. That's amazing. Yeah. Okay so that's my beer and I say Martina story. Right, so he's watching the rasseling. Yeah, and he called by Vince McMahon McMahon. Is he drinking ripple? thi thi This is when he starts, the change starts happening to him. Yeah, and not menopause. Because that's how people normally think when you say the change.
Starting point is 00:17:12 The crater is covered in this green plant life, that's just a vibrant, green, unnatural looking plant life. It's very spiny. Yeah. And then... I think I saw weed plans in the background of the scene th, whoa! I think there was like a little joke in there. I think there were weed plants back there. I'm sure there was a lot of weed smoked on the set. Jorti realises. He keeps having these fantasies about going out.
Starting point is 00:17:35 Now he wants to, he needs totally over the top and it's shot in this really interesting way where you just see half the doctor's face while he's basically yelling at Jordi. Yeah. God, I feel so bad for him. I know, I'm starting to feel really sad. Yeah, and then Jordi decides that he's got to take a bath to get this stuff off because And his dead dad appears in the mirror and just starts yelling at him and calling him an idiot. And it's, man, it's just, it's just, a lot of daddy issues in this, uh, in this movie. So his dad tells him that if he's, he's an idiot, if he goes into the bath, he's a dead man,
Starting point is 00:18:16 because his plan life is just going to start spreading and he basically says, dad, I'm already a dead man. And uh, so he goes into the bath and the next time you see him the entire house is covered in these spiny green plants and he is a giant moss man. Yeah, definitely a moss man. With a shotgun in his mouth. Oh yeah, oh that's right. And then he prays to God that he can finally do something right. God damn it Stephen King you fucking dick. It's so beautiful. It's so well done. I mean I feel like it just you know so good. So then we would go into something to tide you over. I loved it. Fantastic. This is the Leslie Nielsen Ted dancing. I love Ted dancing. And Galen Ross who you might remember from Don Don of the Dead. Oh, okay. She's the love interest in this. Oh she's Becky. Yeah, thi. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. Yeah, th. th. Yeah, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. It's th. th. th. It's th. It's so well well well well. It's so well. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It th. It's th. It th. It th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. th. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. th. So, th. you might remember from Dawn of the Dead. Oh, okay. She's the love interest in this. Oh, she's Becky. Yeah. Yeah. The first notes I have about this just say fuck yes Ted Danson and then immediately no you
Starting point is 00:19:14 cannot bench press 300 pounds because he claims to and that is an outright lie. Of course again it was the 80s. No he cannot. I guarantee God damn to you. I feel like they wrote that line and Ted Danson was like, I can't bench for 300 pounds. You think he read the script before he went into this? I don't think he read the script even to record, to record it, to film it. So this one is basically, Ted Danson is fuling around with the wife of a rich man. You can tell he's rich because he has multiple VCRs, named Richard Vickers played by Leslie Nielsen. He's a great psychopath, I thought. Fantastic, because he's deadpan. Yeah. He's never over the top. It's all just like, this is what's going to happen. Yeah. Yeah. That's the scariest thing. Um, so, uh, Leslie Nielsen goes and picks up Ted Danson and is like,
Starting point is 00:20:05 hey, I want to show you something on the TV. Ted Dancer's like, oh, boy. And what he shows him is Leslie Nielsen's wife, Galen Ross, buried up to her head in sand, at the beach right on the shoreline. And Ted Danson, of course goes nuts. It's okay, man, why, why you do? So Leslie Nielsen says, you know, you can save her so he, you know, that was a lot.
Starting point is 00:20:30 Put someone, takes him a gunpoint down to the beach, makes him dig his own, or no, no, when he gets to the beach. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And he's like, get in the hole. And he's like, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thin, thin, thin, thin, the. Leslie, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, th. th. th. th. th. th. Leslie, th. ta. Leslie, th. ta. ta. Leslie, ta. ta. ta. ta. ta. ta. ta. ta. ta. ta. ta. ta. ta. ta. ta. ta. ta. ta. ta. ta. ta. ta. ta. ta. ta. ta. ta. ta. ta. ta. would have gotten in the hole. I think I would be like, well just shoot me then, you know what I mean? You're not gonna fucking let you bury me in the hole in the sand white. Just shoot, shoot, being shot is clearly the better option. Ted dancing. So. Taking him down a peg. Well, I'm just saying like, use your, use your, their noggin. Use your melon. Well this was this was Harry Wentworth. It wasn't Ted Dancing. Oh you're right. Well I guess that's what acting is I guess. So he gets in the hole and Leslie Nielsen buries him up to his neck and says like the
Starting point is 00:21:13 tide's gonna come in and kill you. Yeah, he also sets up a TV on the beach. Yeah, the other VCR that he says is recording this which I don't know how that's. that's. that's. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. So. th. So. So. So. So. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the th. the th. the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. to. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. is recording this, which I don't know how that's possible because VCRs don't generally have a camera function? There was no camera. Yeah, it's fine. Okay, cool. There's the 80s. Cool, cool. Sounds good. We didn't actually know how VCRs worked back then. He just adjusts the tracking and like that's that. But the TV's showing him the Galen Ross is also going to drown at this point as well. Yeah. And he keeps talking about like holding your breath. You have to hold your breath. Yeah. Leslie Niels and goes back to the house to watch the two of them die on the closed circuit television. And he's like incredible rich guy beach house. Yeah. He's also wearing this very strange medallion. I don't know what it is. Anyway. Just shows that he loves the sea. Yeah, he's a man of the sea. He owns apparently the entire beach. Right, right. So he can just murder people. Yeah, so he can just murder. Yeah, he's the the the tree. Yeah, he's the the the the tree. Yeah, he's the the ta. He's the the the the. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the thereatened, how the fuck are you going to take a shower with your front door unlocked? I'm just saying. I know I have a lot of Y's about this one. I loved it, don't get me wrong.
Starting point is 00:22:30 So as he's taking the shower, he hears something coming into the house. It's the waterlogged corpses of Ted Danson and Gailet Ross. Super good. They're all like the faces are all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all all th. T. T. T. T. T. T. T. T. T. T. T. T. T, th. Yes, I love it. Like Merman. I loved it. They eventually get Leslie Nielsen, bury him in the sand. You see him with his head underwater. There's some great underwater shots of their heads and stuff.
Starting point is 00:22:56 And you see him under there and he yells the line that everyone quotes from this movie. I can hold my breath a long time. So good. Yeah, I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I I th I mean I I mean I mean I mean I mean I mean I mean I th. So good. Yeah, I mean, I feel like I'm not doing this justice, but it's so, it's so great. If you've seen it, you know how good it is. And then we go into, which, uh, the next one, the crate, the fourth story, not my favorite. Loved it. Really? Adrian Barbo is so fiddhaste. She's over the the the tha. tha. tha. tha. thii. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. tho-a-a. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. the. the. the. the. too. toooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. th.too long. She's fantastic. Fucking funny. Her timing is impeccable.
Starting point is 00:23:26 She's over, she's amazing. She's over the top and incredible. She's so good. Yeah. It is long. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:23:34 Fritz Weaver is great. Yeah. Henderson's. Kind of. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like yeah. But I think I mean I feel like it's like half the movie is this one. Yeah it is definitely the longest segment. Basically Fritz Weaver and Howlbrook are besties and their professors at the university and Adrian Barbo is married to How Howe Holbrook and she's just like an obnoxious wretch just like naggy and just terrible but she's so good she's just like ruining parties ruining everything being like what would you do without me just she's taking that that archetype of
Starting point is 00:24:16 the shitty naggy wife from the 50s and just like turning it up to 11 and just kind of being like oh you want naggy you want fucking naggy oh I got and she knocked it out of the goddamn part. She's th. th. th. She's th. She's th. She's th. She's th. She's th. She's th. She's th. She's like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like th. She's th. She's th. She's th. th. th. th th th th th th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the the the th. th. the th. the th. the th. the th. the th. th. thi thi thi's te te. te. teeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee's the's te. te. te. te. turning it up to 11 and just kind of being like oh you want Nagy you want fucking Nagy oh I got Nagy yeah and she knocked it out of the goddamn part. So good. There is a custodian at the university who finds this crate marked Arctic Expedition 1843 or 1834 or something. It's just been stuck under the stairs. But not really stuck under the stairs just hanging out under the stairs that he finds it when he he drops a quarter. So he calls the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th is the th is th is th. th. the th is th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the cust is just is like is like is like is like is like is like is like is like is just is just is just is just is just is just is just is just is just is just is just is just is just is just is just is just is just is just is just is just is just is just is is just is just is the c. Is is is the c. Is is is is is is the c. Is is is the c. Is the c. Is the c. Is the c. Is the c. Is the c. Is the c. It is the c. It is the c. It is just is just the c. It is just the cust. It's t. It's t. It's just t. te. It. I te. It's. I. I te. It's. It's just just te. It's just. It's just. It's t. It's the stairs that he finds it when he drops a quarter. So he calls Fritz Weaver to come look at it and they open it up and the custodian looks inside and says, there's two emeralds in there, but we the audience know that it is the eyes of evil Harry and the Henderson's. And he sticks his arm in to grab the emeral the the emerald, I guess, and this monster just growl- the light turns all red and it's really a...
Starting point is 00:25:10 It looks so good. Yeah, it really does. And he kills him. Yeah. So Fritz Weaver freaks out and runs out and finds this grad student who, like, all grad students is just a bumbling idiot. Although he, like, he like, goes up to the crate to inspect it. Like what makes people in movies? Like last summer a baby bird got stuck in my house and even though I knew it was a baby bird and like baby birds aren't scary. I screamed every time it like a little girl. Do you know what I mean? But people in movies are just like I'll walk up to this fucking crate that has a monster in it? I don't thi. Do you want to the the the the th. th. the th. the th. th. th. th. the th. thi? the thi the the the thi the thi thi thi the the the thi. People the th. People th. People in th. Like, thi. Like, thi. Like, th. Like, th. Like, th. Like, th. Like, th. Like, th. Like, th. th. th. the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. theea. thi. thi. the. thi. thi. the. the. walk up to this fucking crate that has a monster in it, I don't give a shit, like, no, you wouldn't. Do you want to watch the sensible movie?
Starting point is 00:25:46 Do you want to watch the movie? The baby bird even had an injured wing, it couldn't really fly and I was still screaming about it. No. Are you trying to out sad the Stephen King? Yeah. You have to do it to push the movie along. Like, you have to go into the basement to see what's town there. Right. So Evil Harry and the Henderson's kills a grad student. And there's blood everywhere. It's just so narly.
Starting point is 00:26:11 It gets cleaned up though. Yes. It cleans up real nice. Because Fritz Weaver goes back to Hallbrook's house to like discuss this with him and how and how and how and how th and how th and how th and how th and how th and how th and how th and how th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thus thus thus, their, their's, their's, their's, their, their's, thus. sees his out of his marriage because apparently divorce wasn't an option. Well he didn't want her to take half. Well, you know what? Yeah, I think this is my, my quip with the movie. Just call the fucking cops, man.
Starting point is 00:26:33 You can talk your way back out of this, something half and like, yeah. Don't go to your boy and be like, oh, we need to take care of the situation. We just throw him him him him him him him him him him him th th th th th th th th the quarry. Maybe don't throw him in the quarry. So how Holbrook goes back to the school, he drugs Fritz Weaver to knock him out, goes back to the school. Which was actually a kindness, because he didn't want him to have to be part of this. Right. Or he wanted to be able to do what he was going to do without anyone stopping then calls his wife, Adrian Barbeau, and basically lures her there by telling her that he has a problem that only she can solve, because what would you do without her?
Starting point is 00:27:10 Right, it's a note that she reads in this great voice. Oh yeah, you're right. It was, he didn't call her. Yeah, thii'a'a' thii. She's also drinking like milk and whiskey. What the fuck? Is that a thing? You can't go to sleep sometime. I guess. I don't know what that means.
Starting point is 00:27:29 Then she takes it in the car with her. She just like must put it in the cup holder. There's another drinking a driving moment here in the creep show. She's a true. Yeah, it's not the monster. First he beats kind of beats the shit out of her and then the monster eats her which like yeah it's not the nicest movie at this point it's getting a little mean. I mean she wasn't that bad. Oh she was kind of hilarious. Yeah. It was just he wasn't the right partner for her. And he she keeps telling everyone she keeps telling everyone, call me Billy everyone else does. And then his last words to her are, like, have him call you Billy.
Starting point is 00:28:05 Everyone else does. Oh, sir. And then after that's done, he goes home and finds Fritz Weaver and they get back to play in chess and they kind of agree not to tell anybody about this stuff. And he does throw the crate into the quarry and then you see it open. Yeah, and the eyes are shining. Yeah. Pretty great. I like this. I do agree that it was pretty, it was a little too long, but I like it's saying it's my least favorite of the five is still like, it's still fantastic. Yeah. And then so we're getting to the fifth and final
Starting point is 00:28:35 story now. You're gonna take this one on your own because I have only two notes for they're creeping up on you. One says future. the the their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. their. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. their th. th. th. th. th. Saying, saying it's saying it's saying it's saying it's saying it's saying it's saying it's saying it's saying it's their th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their. th. Say. Say. Say. Say. Say, saying. Say, saying. Say, saying, saying, saying, saying, saying, saying it's their their their th. Say, saying, saying, saying, saying, saying it's their th. Say, saying, saying, saying, saying, saying, saying, saying, saying, saying, saying, saying, the future man bathroom and the other one says why doesn't this man get an exterminator? And like that's it. He tried. Well I think I wrote that before he tried but he tried. But I just didn't care. This one stars E. G. Marshall who I love he played a bunch of like bit roles in like the 50s and 60s and 60s in movies and he was the radio in the 70s and 80s, which was like a throwback to the 50s, like 40s and 50s horror radio hours. It's fantastic. He's a real dick in this. God damn he's amazing in this. No, he's, yeah, it is, yeah. Guggez.
Starting point is 00:29:13 Yeah, but yeah. His character's name is Upson Pr dagoes from the Romero and Savini clan. Yeah, they're the working-class Pittsburgh guys. Of course, they hate all the ricies. Yeah. He's a, as described in Wikipedia, he's a neurotic business tycoon. Okay. Which could just read as a fucking prick.
Starting point is 00:29:39 He's just a sterile, hermetically sealed environment apartment, because he's a total germophob. It's a real Howie Mandel type. I thought, oh, that confused me because I kept thinking he was, at first I was like, is he on a spaceship? Like, what is happening here? He's just an apartment? Yeah, but I didn't know that at first. And so then I kind of started to zone out. I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I th. th. th. th. th. th. th. I th. I th. I th. I kind th. I kind th. I kind th. I kind th. I kind th. I kind thin, I kind th. I kind th. I kind kind th. I kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind kind to to to to to to to to th. I kind to th. I kind th. I kind th. I kind th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to th. I th. I the the thi. I thi. I th, this one lost me. You've been through a lot already in this movie. It is two hours long. So basically the whole thing is that he's a prick.
Starting point is 00:30:08 It turns out there's cockroaches coming up in his apartment and he wants the help to come take care of this. The super of the building is out on vacation. Calls the dude on vacation and tells him to him to him him him him him him him him him him him him him him him him him him him him him him him him him him him him him him him to get him to get him to get him to get him to get him to get him to get him to get him the he him he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he. He he. He he. He he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he tells tells he he tells he he he he he he's he he he he he he he he he he. He's he. being a total cock to him. And so the bugs just keep coming, because no one's coming to help him with this. There's a great fish eye lens scene of a guy coming to the door to tell him that he can't really help him with it. And it's really funny, like how much this, uptoday. And it's really proud.
Starting point is 00:30:34 He says something. Yeah, but then, he says something So he's racist on top of everything. He's really great. He's such a shit bag. Nothing's great like racism. Well, I mean, if you're gonna have a shit bag, why not just go full shit bag? Go full shit bag, you're right.
Starting point is 00:30:53 So the bugs keep climbing into the apartment. At one point he's eating drinking it, and... Oh, god damn it. I think why this one gets me is because bugs kind of give me the willies. That's so gross, especially cockroaches. Definitely oogie boogie boogies. And they're just, they're huge hissing cockroaches, too. They're not even like... Yeah, it just keeps, the cockroaches just keep mounting and mounting and mounting and Eventually they're pouring out of this old man's body and it's fucking fantastic
Starting point is 00:31:26 It's incredible like they're in the jukebox they're just everywhere it's so gross like and I you know like under the sheets of his bed He like pulls the sheets off his bed the entire mattress is just cockroaches. Yeah, it's great. I don't know I love it. I love it. I love it. I love it. I love it. I love it. I love it. I love it. I love it. I love it. I love it. I love it. I love it. I love it. I love it. I don't know. Yeah, I really, it's my favorite of them. Again, watch the movie. I can't do it just as how good it is. It's like. And then it ends with sort of a wrap up of the beginning scene of the shithead father and his comic tho' their son, and the comic book, the comic book, the comic book, the comic book, the comic book, the comic book, their, their, their, their, their, their, thii, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, some, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is, is a their, is a their, is a their, somea, somea, their, too, too, too, too, their, their, their, their, their, their, is their, is their, is theirthrowing away their trash. And they find the comic book that Billy's father is thrown away and sort of start flipping through it.
Starting point is 00:32:09 And they see, they're looking at like things that you can send away for. And one of them is a voodoo doll. And they're like, oh, someone already sent away from this voodoo doll. And then it cuts to the inside up upbing the shit out of this voodoo doll. And his dad's like, ah! Rah! Yeah, it's a scene.
Starting point is 00:32:34 Yeah, it's so good. Yeah. And it cuts the creep is laughing and it's everything you wanted to, I don't know, man. God damn, I love this movie. We had talked a few weeks ago and we did Return in the Living Dead as to whether or not I would ever like horror comedy. And I know you sort of take um bridge with this being horror comedy but I think it is and I like it so. Okay. So that's suck at Return of the Libert know who I'm saying, fuck you too. Yeah, I loved it, eight and a half. Really? Ready, I'm ready, let's do it.
Starting point is 00:33:08 Yeah, loved it. Wow. Loved it. Plus, you know, I just, like I'm such a Pittsburgh asshole, like anything that's about Pittsburgh, I love, you know? Like most people in Pittsburgh, we're shitheads about Pittsburgh. You love it. Yeah. Well, what else is there? Nothing. No. So, what did you think of this movie? Well, Katie.
Starting point is 00:33:27 This is a movie that I'll put in my, um, if someone's like, hey, where do I start with horror films? This movie's on that list. Really? Yeah, this movie's a solid ten. Yeah, tho give the other 10 to, the first 10? Oh, Return of the Living Dead. Which is also, I mean, yeah, these two movies are like, I'm gonna give you your introductory. You're gonna laugh a bit, you're gonna enjoy it.
Starting point is 00:33:54 See, I loved this and did not love Return of Living Dead. And I think it's just because, return of living dead was stretching out the joke so far. Do you know what I mean? It was such a long stretch of the joke, whereas these were just like quick, get in, get out jokes. So I think I appreciated that more than, yes. Yes. Yes. I don't know, I, yeah, I'm gonna give it a ten. Like, for me, it was, it's combining, the guy from, you know, the director of director, the director, the director, the director, the director, the director, the director, the director, the director, the director, the director, the director, the director, the director, the director, the director, the director, the director, the director, thin, thin, thi, it, it, it, it, it, thin, thi, thi, th. th. thi, it, th. th. th. th. I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, it, th....... I, it, th.. I, th. I, I, I, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th Dead and Stephen King putting him in the same movie, doing their thing, having fucking fun.
Starting point is 00:34:27 The star of cheers. The star of cheers. And they're like, having fun doing it. Obviously having fun. Everybody working on this is having a blast. It's so good. It's so much fun. I think that's, that really sells the comedy aspect of it if there is. like know, like it's that it's so irreverent and fun.
Starting point is 00:34:47 I have a note that like if you're maybe not into like horror comics, maybe this isn't the movie for you, but like obviously... Yeah, you loved it. Loved it. So, um, yeah, I love the second one's definitely a weaker effort than this one. And they're working on four. Oh, I didn't even know that. And there's who is working on four? I don't know. Yeah, someone. And there was going to be a TV show that they did a pilot that was directed by, oh, what's that guy, Voldemort?
Starting point is 00:35:15 Yeah, Voldemort. He directs? Yeah, I guess he directed the pilot for this thing called Creepshow Raw. That wrapped up in 2008. Still haven't seen it. That it's on YouTube. Yeah, there's a, there's a creepshow three that didn't have any involvement from King or Romero. I I I I I I I like th like th like any involvement from King or Romero. I like Creep Show too, but I don't think it's as strong as the book.
Starting point is 00:35:45 No, really, what's the guy from Harry Potter though? He... He who shall not be named. Oh, no, I'm also, okay. Yeah. I just wanted to know. Thank you. And I didn't know that off the to' to'the-s the, the, hard here but that's just because Alan loves them. It's true I really do.
Starting point is 00:36:10 Yeah we're doing Fright Night which is available on Netflix if you want to watch it. Yeah. Vampire movie Prince Umberdink watch it we'll talk about it.
