This is going to be an episode of Deep Size.
I think so.
Ah.
Hey everybody.
Hi. How are you? You and them. I'm well in yourself. I'm fine. This is an episode of
Whe Wolf Ambulance. I'm worried it's not going to be funny. We'll try. We'll try to
make it funny. I also want to say that I feel like based on the subject matter
of this film you might tend to tread a little more lightly than normal on tellain thin tho. But I want to let to let to let to let to let to let to let to let the the the the the the the the the the the the theanananananananan't thean't thean thean thean theoeoe eauooooooe. thoe. thoe thoe thoooooooomoomoomoomoomoomoomoomoomoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. t. t. t. thee. thee. theaaaaaaaa. the the a little more lightly than normal and telling me that I'm wrong about something.
But I want to let you know that if we disagree on something, I'd like to hear it.
Okay.
Yeah.
There are some places where I feel that I will definitely be pulling back because it is not my place.
And there are places that I will be pulling back because I'm afraid of alienating
people.
So this episode of Punch is Pulled. Did you have any idea what you
were getting into with the film The Love Witch? 2016's the Lovewit. So I had
heard very mixed reviews I'd heard this movie's awful. This movie is this
fantastic feminist horror movie that is dismantling and reassembling Gialo and 70s Satanic Erotic Horror Movies.
Yeah. Which if you know anything about me, I love 70s Satanic Erotic Horror Movies.
See also the episode we did on Alu Karta. Sure. All the colors of the dark, which we have never done,
and I would think that you would punch me in the gullet if we did it. It's a hela
boring and soot's rapy. Oh yes please just like this one just like this one
just kidding. But I uh yeah I mean which is definitely one of the movies if this movie is Aping. Okay gotcha and that style so yeah so I was like, this might be fun, love witch, month of love.
It's right there in the fucking name.
Yeah.
I'm gonna go ahead and just begin this by saying, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah,
no, no.
No, no, no.
Like, nah, uh-uh, you're not doing it, you're not having it? I'm saying no, to all no. I'm saying no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, th th th th thi. I'm saying th th th th th thi, th to to thi. I'm saying, to to to to to to to to to to, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I th, I th, I th, I th, I'm th, I'm th th th th th th, I'm th th th, I'm th th thi. I'm thi, I'm thi, I'm thi, I'm thin, I'm thin, I'm thin, thin, th thin, th thin, th thin, th tha, thi, thi, thi, thi, let's start with the good. Okay. It's beautiful.
It apes that like Susperea era technicolor like gross saturation of color so
well and the set design. Gorgeous. I do like all the people that are like this is a perfect
period beast it's like except for all the modern-day cars and cell phones that are in this movie. Yeah, well that's the bad. I wanted to start to start to start to start to start to start to start to start to start to start to start to start to start to start to start to start to start to start to start to start to start to start to start to start to to start to to to to to to the the the the to to the the to the the the they. It's they. It's they. It's they. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like. I the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the the the the the. I the. I theea. I theeea. I's theeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeethis movie. Well that's the bad. I wanted to start with the good. I
think that's the good. It's beautiful to look at. Yeah. I love that Victorian tea
room for reasons I can't even describe but I love it. I love her apartment.
I love her eyeliner. She is just to look at very appealing. Sure. And a lot of this movie I is that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's the the that's the that's the the the the the the the the the the the to be the bad. I want to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the. I's the. I's the. I theate. I want. I want. I want. I want. I want. I want the the the the. I want. I want. I want. I want the the the. I want the th She is just to look at very appealing. Sure. And a lot of this
movie is just looking at her face. So yeah. I like her all red motif at the
beginning and I wish that red looked good on me. It does not. No. Washes me out.
Oh yeah, yeah. Makes me look pink. Yeah, I'm too yellow for it. Yeah. Yeah. I'm too yellow for it. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. So no red for us.
But okay, so let's talk about the timing thing. Okay, like the the periodness of it? Because she has a very
60s mod look about her. Sure, and as, I mean, Trish has a very, her friend Trish has a very 60s look,
like, she's wearing the tightest polyester pants I've ever seen in the first scene. She has a 2016 booty in like 1960s pants which
didn't coincide like not looking right squats were not that big of a
thing right and that's not like I'm not judging bodies or anything it's just like
the pants she's got a good butt Okay, treading lightly. It's not anti-feminist to say that
a woman who's clearly squatting has a good butt, in my opinion. Okay. And I speak for us all.
And all the dudes are very like arc types of like dudes who would have been on DragNet.
Yeah, that, that, the's jaw is insane. It's like giving Bruce Campbell
and run for his money. So but so she is driving in like a 60s car with her 60s
outfit and her 60s hair and then as she drives into town the Marquis says this
is spinal tap is the movie playing at the movie theater and I was like that
movie was in 1984. What's happening here? The cop that pulls her over before she gets to town is driving like a something in the 2010's cruiser. See I didn't notice that
until much later when like she's talking to the guy in the park and there's
just like a Subaru Forrester behind her and I was like wait what is happening?
Trish pulls up in a modern beamer. Yeah yeah. When Trish pulled out her cell phone I was like, I feel like there's, I liked that because I was like, I feel like there's so much stuff that's
stranger things and all of the things of that ilk that are like, it's 1984 again,
check it out. And this was like, this six-ease, fuck you. Yeah, I don't like that. It feels like,
it feels like, this movie is definitely trying to be a cultural commentary.
But you can't have, in my opinion, it's difficult to have a cultural commentary on a nebulous
time, a nebulous span of 60 years.
Because a lot of things have changed.
I think that's what made me think that this movie was just straight up satire.
That it was satirizing all the movies and stuff that I mentioned earlier, and like satirizing, takes, th, takes, takes, takes, takes, takes, takes, takes, takes, takes, takes, takes, takes, takes, takes, takes, takes, takes, takes, takes, takes, takes on, takes on, satirizing all the movies and stuff that I mentioned earlier and like
satirizing takes on anti-feminist ideas. Sure. About what women want out of a relationship.
Sure. Or like very male-centric ideas about women want out of a relationship.
Right. It doesn't feel clever enough to me to be satire, but you could be right.
Yeah, I feel like when talking with Missy about this, she said that it felt very academic.
And I agree, it's like academic satire.
It's kind of like, have you read this?
Have you read this?
Oh, oh, on some level, yeah.
Which is gonna, which is gonna miss a lot of people.
Right, that's not fun to be part of to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be a to be a to be a to be a to be a to be a to be a lot of people. Right, that's not fun to be part of a conversation you don't know what they're talking about, you know?
For sure.
Yeah, but this movie I think is a not for everyone.
I actually asked fans of the podcast
to give us their, what they thought about this movie.
And it was, it seemed to be kind of starkly in two camps of, it's beautiful, it's too, it's too, it's too, it's too, it's th, it's th, it's th, it's th, and it's th, and it's th, and it's to be kind, and it's to be kind, and it's to be kind, and it's to be kind, and a to be kind kind kind kind a to be kind of, to be kind of, and a to bea, to bea'er, to bea'er, to bea'er, to bea'er, to be kinda, to be kind of, to be kind of, to be kind of, to be kind of, to be kind of, to be kind of, to be kind of, thi, thi, thi..... thi. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. thi. thia'erananan't, thia'eranan't, thia'eranan't, thia'eranan it's beautiful and I want to live in that movie.
And like, and you said you were reading a bunch of stuff
that was talking about like the feminist ideas in the movie?
Yeah, a lot of reviews call it like a feminist masterpiece,
which I strongly disagree with.
I just strongly disagree with. First of all, I got to about the hour and 20 minute mark of the movie, and I had to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. the th. the the the thi the the the the themp. And I the them. And I them. And I th. And I th. And I th. And I the the the the the the movie, and I the the the movie, and I the movie, and I the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the same, I, I, I was, I'm, I'm, I'm just just just just, I'm just, I'm just, I'm just, I'm just, I'm just, I'm just, and I'm, and I'm, and I'm, and I'm, and I'm, and I'm, and I'm, and I'm just, and I'm all, I got to about the hour and
20 minute mark of the movie and I had to turn it off because I was I could not
take watching it anymore because it was so dull. Yeah. Even like the beautiful
colors and beautiful sets could not save how much I was like wishing this
movie was over. It wasn't until the end that I even realized it was trying to make a feminist statement when she gives her speech at the end. I don't remember the
speech. When she's like I men just wanted to use me for my body so I started
using them for what I wanted. Oh sure sure sure sure and it's like when she
said that I was like you to be fucking kidding me oh oh this was all oh oh oh oh is is exactly how I felt. Do we th. And it it it it it it th. And it th. And it th. And it's to to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to to the th. And it's like th. And it's like th. And it's like to to to to to to to th. the th. And it's like th. And it's like to to to to to to to to to to to to the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. And it's th. th. th. the. I the. I the. I the. I the. I the. I the. I the. I the. I the. I the. I, oh, is exactly how I felt.
Do we want to like do a quick synopsis of the film?
Oh my God, try it.
So we're following this character, Elaine, who's this extremely beautiful witch.
She sucks.
Who moves from San Francisco because some shit went down, she had to leave town.
And she moved up to an apartment in Arcada, California. Which is a beautiful town I went there on
tour many years ago. Cool. Funny story my friend pooped next to a house
to a house. too the fence and it was very funny. Next to a house he pooped? He felt like he wedged his butt between a house and a fence and pooped. Oh boy. Yeah, I mean I was young. to to to to to to to to to to to to to the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. It was th. It was th. It was th. It was th. It was tho the the the thoom. It was th. It was th. It was their their their their their their their their their their their all. It was their all. It was their all. It was their all. It was their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their th. I was very. I was very. I p. I p. I p. I p. I p. I p. I p. I p. I p. I p. I p. I p. I p. I p. I p. I was tou. I was and pooped. Oh boy. Yeah, I mean, I was young.
It was literally, oh God, it was so long ago.
Anyway.
Well, that makes two poops here in Arcata.
Well done.
Thank you.
So she moves Arcada and she is now on the hunt for a new man.
Right.
Because all that she wants to be is a good partner to somebody., th. th. the th., the th., the. the the. the the. the the the. the. the. the the. the. the. to to to to to to Right. Because all that she wants to be is a good partner to somebody who provides them with all
the sex that they want and cooks all the meals for them.
I don't know.
I don't think that's all she wants at all.
All she wants is to be treated like a tiny baby object, a delicate baby flower.
Oh, okay. I don't think she wants to... I think her desires are entirely wrapped up
and being treated like a mystical princess. Oh, I got from it that her whole
thing was to like please the man. But that's a means to an end, right? She's doing
that so that she can achieve this like love thing where she says like giving men sex as a way of unlocking their love potential?
Which is like a line in this movie.
This was another thing that I thought this movie was kind of like a condemnation of all
like the woo-woo witchy stuff that's going on now.
But Missy disagreed with this.
She thought that it was like kind of like backing that stuff up on some level, but I mean, I think one of the only cool things in the movie, the movie, the movie, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, thi, tho, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi.aa, thiiiiiiiiiiiii.a.a. And, thii. And, thi. And, thi. And, th one of the only cool things in the movie outside of the colors and the set design is a used tampon urine filled
witch bottle so I don't know maybe she's right. That line about how most men have
never seen a used tampon was pretty funny. It's like who have you've been
living with? See them all the times are all over the god damn place. Everywhere. It's like I'm in the the the the the the the the th you you th you th you th th th th th th th th th th th th th th thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thin thin thin thin thin thin' thin' thin thin thin thin thin thin thin thin thin thin thin thin' thin' thin' thin' thin' thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi th. I th. I th is th is th is th is things th is th is thi thi thi thi thin' thin' thin' thin thin thin thin the stuff stuff stuff stuff stuff stuff stuff like like the an the an thuuuuu an thuuuuuuuuu thuuuuu thuuu thu thu thu thu thu thu times are all over the goddamn place. It's like I'm in an L7 concert. Oh God.
That's actually threw her tampon into the crowd? Yeah. Yeah. He can't do that. That's
assault. I thought it was one of the coolest fucking things I've ever seen. Did you like it when
I'm Shannida O'Connor ripped up that picture of the Pope. Yeah, you did. Yeah, it did. Yeah, I did. Should we get into my opinions on the Pope now?
No.
That's, let's save that for an episode that's not on the month of love.
I love it when you call the ill papa.
Sorry, I'll see myself out.
Please don't leave me alone with the love witch. So she meets a friend of the person whose house she's staying is Trish.
Yeah, Trish is cool.
Trich is great.
Yeah.
They go to this Victorian tea room.
Which I was like, man, I wish dudes were allowed there.
It looked really cool.
Why do you have to take everything?
Can't we just have any fucking things? Listen, I'm a white man in 2020.
It's all mine.
It's a my used tampon, my tea room.
That was just cool.
And I loved how everyone was dressed in there.
There are like men-only saunas and smoking rooms.
Yeah, but who wants to hang out with dudes?
Oh, thanks. I didn't really want to go there, I just thought it looked cool.
Plus I love tiny sandwiches.
See, that's a thing I don't like.
Give me a big sandwich.
I'm a big sandwich kind of girl, you know?
Maybe that's not feminist to say I'm a big sandwich kind of girl.
I'm very concerned about what is and is not feminist now.
I think a hoagie is totally feminist.
I mean, is it toasted?
In Pittsburgh we like to toast our hoagies.
It's true.
I always knew those as grinders coming up when you toast it.
That's not a thing.
It's called a haue.
It's called a hagi.
Hiaeji. So, Trish is like, Trish, and Trish, Trish, Trish, Trish, Trish, Trish, Trish, Trish, Trish, Trish, and Trish, trish, trish, trish, trish, trish, trish, trish, trish, trish, trish, true. In, true. In, true. In, we like, we like, we th, we like, we like, we like, we like, we like, we like, we like, we like, we like, we like, we like, we like, we like, we like, we like, we like, we like, we like, we like, we, we, we, we, we, we, we th. In. In. In. In. In. In. In. In. In. In, we th, we th, we th, we th, we like, we like, we like, we like, we like, we like, we like, we like, we like, we like, we like, th. In, in, in. In, in. In, in. In, in, in, in, in, in, in. In th. In th. In th. In th. In th. In th. In th. In, in, in, we like like, oh, I just want to meet a man and unlock his love potential.
And Trish is like, ugh, why?
It's dumb.
I got a husband, stupid.
She says, why Elaine, it sounds like you've been brainwashed
by the patriarchy.
And I was like, oh, OK, Trish, you're cool.
Yeah. Yeah.
Elaine, you're deeply uncoo. Somehow Elaine turns out to be our feminist hero. Do you think... I don't know!
See I think she's the villain in this piece.
Okay.
Okay.
Which is again why I think it's like satirical because I think she's supposed to, I mean,
you're supposed to identify with the beautiful woman who's just trying to find love.
See, I identify with the boring married lady who's like, you know,
who's like a Pittsburgh six, Pittsburgh seven.
If I had to fuck my husband all the time, every time he wants to, I'd never get anything
to do it. I love Trish. Also her husband looks like a corpse.
Did you think he looks like a corpse.
Did you think he looked like a corpse even before he was a corpse?
When they showed him as a real corpse, I was like, not that different.
Yeah, so Trish is great.
We all love trish.
Yeah.
So Elaine is doing sex magic.
Yeah.
She's part of like the sex magic witchcraft.
Right.
I did love when she was making her sex magic spell. She was wearing giant rubber gloves.
Yeah, like she was going to wash the dishes afterwards. I can clean these fucking floors, make a fuck spell.
And a smock. She had a smock on too, yeah. Well, she's also a painter. Right. Her paintings are a wretched.
Right. I like to think that she can't paint paint hair and that's why all the women have dreadlocks.
It's a big, thick, ropey hair.
It's very strange.
Um.
Looks like a 3-11 concert in there.
Well, we're talking about the 90s.
So, uh, Elaine finds Jerry in the park, and she's like, oh, hey.
No, Jerry's her ex, she finds Duane, Wayne, Wayne.
Wayne, Wayne.
Yeah, who also has like a very 60s vibe about him.
Sure, he's got like a hippie professor thing going on.
And he's already talking to a lady.
Right, was that his girlfriend?
I don't know.
I th that's that's that's that's tho tho that's tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho thu. thi thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi,. But this is the first time that you see like,
like I don't think there's any magic going on here.
It's just a hot lady stairs of Duna.
Yeah, yeah.
Yeah, right.
Because it's all like the camera keeps coming in on her eyes and showing her eyes and then like,
wean music starts.
Her winged eyeliner is perfect. Yeah, yeah, and the eye shadow, just
that like aqua eye shadow she has or whatever. So frosty. I don't know how she
doesn't. I like it when it's purple. Yeah, like, yeah. I like that's like, you'd like,
you'd rock that. No, I don't think so. I mean, I think I'd have to wear false eyelashes and her eyelashes look like, thi. It looks like like like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, I'm, I'm, I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I, I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I th. I th. I th. I thi. I th. I thi. I th thi. I th the sad end of the night thing in a movie where a woman's like ripping off her fake eyelash.
Like, oh, that's not, things haven't gone well, you have to feel those back off.
Ugh.
I like to put them in potted plants when I have to wear them.
So they scare you later?
Yeah. So they scare you later? Little spiders. Uh, did you make the note when she's sitting in the park and she pulls out a PBJ
that she's eating a sand?
I didn't.
But you know what?
She's a big sandwich kind of girl too.
Yeah, yeah.
I guess we're all a little Elaine.
So she like seduces Wayne and gets him to take her to his house in the woods where she will cook him a dinner.
Of penis shaped steaks.
Yeah.
I love that the steaks were dick shaped.
Yeah.
I'm a sucker for anything dick shaped.
He's a libertine.
He's so skee.
Oh yeah, yeah, 100%.
And then she drugs him.
With love potion, which he's into. Which is like
Jimsonweed, I guess? Yeah, and it makes him elucinate and become a wimp. I guess is the whole thing.
I don't understand what happens to him. So this is where it gets like, this happens
multiple times in the movie where she seduces a man or uses her sex magic or whatever it is.
And then when she gets the dude, he's like, oh I love you.
And she's like, you're a wimp now and I hate it.
But doesn't say that, just watches them die.
Yeah. Yeah. She like annoyed, goes and sits in the living room to smoke.
Yeah, and just calls them all pee bombs all the time. Yeah.
But why?
Isn't that what she wanted?
This is where I get mad.
Sure.
This is one of the places I get mad.
Because go ahead.
Oh, I was going to say, this is my, I, this is how I justified this, is that because she is like sort of the male ideal of what
a woman should want out of a relationship, to please the man, to get him to fall in love
with you and make him dinner and have sex all the time, that she then flips and becomes
like the masculine side of that, that there's too much love and appreciation, she gets offended by it or something. I'm trying to find like the threadets the the threads the threads threads the threads threads threads here the threads here threads here threads here the th's too much love and appreciation, she gets offended by it or something.
I'm trying to find like the threads here to pull on together. I guess that maybe that's true,
but like I still don't understand how that's a feminist ideal.
I think, yeah, I don't know that it is.
No, but I think the movie purports that it is.
Right. I th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi, thi, thi, like, thi, like, like, like, like, like, like, thi, thi, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thro, that, thro. that, that, throoo. I that, throoooooooo, thi, idea of just turning something stereotypically masculine on its head isn't
feminism.
Like just because she fucks to get what she wants.
Right, right.
Because feminism is the idea that you treat all people equally.
But it's not like you have to be as shitty as somebody else to be equal to them.
You can't just be like the opposite of man is feminism. I just don't think that's right. I don't the the th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th to be equal to them. Right, just, you can't just be like the opposite of man is feminism.
I just don't think that's right.
I don't know.
I just, I found it exhausting.
I really did.
Sure.
Yeah, for sure.
And like the fact that it's,
the pacing is tedious.
Yeah.
It's days long.
I mean, it's a two-hour movie.
Like it's a solid two-hour.
Yeah.
So eventually Wayne dies by like,
he just sort of stops eating and then dies?
I did he, I think they said he had heart failure?
Did he die of a broken heart?
I think that's the implication. I think so too. I hate. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I th it. I th it. I th it. I th it. I th it. I th it. I th it. I th it. I th it. I think that's the implication. I think
so too. But I hate it. I hate it. I would rather they said he died of a broken heart.
Yeah, it seems as though his heart just broke. I think that maybe that's...
Maybe I wanted a little less nudge, wink, wink and a little more like, hey dummy, look at this.
I need a little bit more like obvious, like,
pointing out those eyes.
We should say that this movie was kind of like,
sold as this feminist idea.
Right, right.
Like, I mean, I guess she's a feminist director.
Right. Who's using feminist theory to make this movie?
Right. So we have to like approach it from that standpoint, like if you were just like, hey, I mean, to, to, pointing, to, to, to, to, pointing, to, to, to, to, to, pointing, to, to, th, th, th, th, pointing, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, pointing, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, to, to, to, to, to, to make this movie. Right. So we have to like approach it from that standpoint, right?
Like if you were just like, hey, I mean, a which movie?
Yeah.
And then watching you be like, oh, man, it's kind of subverted the dominant paradigm.
Yeah.
Would you though?
But I also think that the movie is doing a lot of like, hey, the campiness of it, like I which I know we're going to come down on different sides of but I I like camp when it's incidental. Yeah. I don't like it I don't like
how this movie feels like it's dubbed in English. I don't like how intentionally
bad the acting is. I find it distracting. Okay I think I sort of think of it like
what was that movie where the girl's mom dies and she
gets sucked into the horror movie?
Final girl?
Yeah.
So when they meet the kids in the movie, and they're so like ridiculously over the top 80 stereotypes,
and that's what I kind of like this is just like extremely wooden acting by these
people. Okay. And that's just sort of like, I guess I've watched enough of the movies the movies th the movie th th the movie th the the the the the the the thi thi thi thi thi thi thi. thi. thi. thi, I've thi, I've thi, I've thi, I've thi, I've thi, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I've, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, I, I, I, I, I, I'm, I'm, I, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi.eaugh, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi,'s just sort of the like, I was, I guess I've watched enough of these movies with extreme, like beautiful people not being
good actors. But it was like, okay, yeah, it makes sense. But, but, but doing it on
purpose is weird to me. It feels like making it so you can't point out how bad the
acting is, that's on purpose. You know what I mean? It feels like pointing out your flaws before someone else can make fun of them
because you're in second grade and just got glasses.
You know what I mean?
Yeah, yeah, it's the whole like, I love Lucio Fulchie.
Lutu Fulchie, makes bad movies.
You can't make a bad movie. Right. Lutio Fulch? Fulch? Fulch is is is is is like I was was fulch? I was like I was like I was like I was like I was like I was like I was like I was like I was like I was like fluco fluco fluco fluclucluclucluclue. I was like I was like th. I was like th. I was like thu. I thu. I th. I th. th. th. th. th. I th. I th. I thage. I thaglip. I their flip. I their. I their. I thia. I thia. I thia. I thia. I thia. I th. I th. I th. I th. I thi. I thi. I thi. I thi. I thi. I thi. I thi. I thi. I thi. I thi. thi. thi. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. thi. thi. I thi. I thi. art. Yeah. It was not. It was not. None of them are. Agreed to disagree. I mean, art is subjective, right? I mean, you know, a maggot
storm is a maggot storm and it's very exciting. It is what it is, for sure.
We have to do that movie at some boy because he definitely throws maggots at people. Do we? Do we? Do we? Oh, anyway. But I just feel like this movie this movie this movie this movie this movie this movie this movie this movie this movie this movie this movie this movie this movie this movie this movie this movie this movie this movie this movie this movie this movie this movie this movie this movie this movie this movie is a this just feel like this movie's a lot of schtick.
Like the campiness and woodenness of it, and then the time, when is this movie actually taking place.
I just feel like it's, why are you layering all this stick on unless like...
You think it's lacking somewhere else, and it certainly is.
Yeah, but had one aspect of this been like,
okay, we're gonna take 60s, 70s, satanic, erotic,
thriller, fjola movies, and flip them on their head,
and like, bringing feminist side into that, okay, that's the focus.
Yeah. But we're also gonna do this like, satire of period of, and we're gonna do this like, you know, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, the, th... their, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th, thi, thi, th, th, th, their, their, their, thi, their, their, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. to, to, the, to, they, they. the, to, they. the, they. the, the, there's so much, like, there's so many irons in the fire that it's like none of them we're
getting the proper attention they need. Yeah. Because that's probably why the
movie's so goddamn long too is just like be like, get every little bit you
can. Yeah, yeah, they're Lord of of motif of this movie is, she has a flashback of like her husband and her father yelling at her.
But like, why is there a hot dog under your bed?
You should always yell at your partner if you find a hot dog under the bed.
It's so funny though.
It's like such a funny thing to find under the bed.
Like, was she jerking it a hot dog in your room and then leave it under the bed?
She was eating a hot dog in bed and somebody came in, she had to throw it into the bed
because it's not to look like a weirdo.
I don't, maybe you're right.
Just eating a cold hot dog in bed.
I'm changing the subject.
Uh, but I think it's done so poorly. because she's suffered like trauma and abuse. So there's like some kind of like recovery arc from that.
But I think it's done so poorly.
Right, right, right, right, for sure.
Oh yeah, yeah, it's that it's trying to flip that trope of like Henry,
Henry Portrait of a serial killer where his mother abused him and therefore he kills women.
Right. So she kills men. Yeah, but it's like... Oh, that's feminist. No, it's not. It's fucking not. Just because a woman kills men is not
feminist. Like, just because a woman initiates sex is not feminist. Like, it's a lot more than that.
Oh, I hate it. But she's also like orgasming while she's having this flashback. Yeah. She's like laying down. the laundry just rubbing herself herself. No th. No th. No th. No th. No th. No th. No th. No th. No th. No th. No th. No th. No th. No th. No th. No th. No th. No th. No, th. It's th. It's th. It's th. No, no th. It's th. It's th. No, it's th. It's no it's no it's no it's no it's no it's no it's no it's no it's no it's no it's no it's no. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. No. It's th. No. No. No. It's th. No. No. No. No. It's th. No. It's th. No. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. I. It's th. I. I's like. I's like. I's like, th. I's like, th. I's th. I's th. I's th. I's th. th. It's the the th. I's th. I's having this flashback. Yeah. She's like laying down. Hot dog.
In lingerie, just rubbing herself and going,
oh, oh, oh, yeah, oh.
To be fair, she's doing that a lot of the movie.
Sure.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah. So Wayne dies, she buries Wayne in Wayne's Yard and does like a little like, she pisses in a bottle,
it makes this like little... Wrong, she pisses in a cup, uses a funnel to pour it into a bottle.
Sorry, right. It makes me think of like when you get like a rosemary infused olive oil?
Yeah, yeah. It was just like piss and a tampon and rosemary. I guess. Rosemary will hold a while.
And everybody who opens the bottle is like, oh, I was like,
it doesn't smell a little bit like Rosemary though.
Just a little bit.
And she just keeps putting on clothes and taking them off.
Like, a good portion of the first half of the film is just her putting clothes
on and then removing them again.
I've never worn stocking garters. Why on earth would you?
The fact that anybody. Every time she takes off a dress they're never attached.
They're just like free-range stocking garters. I'd and the fact that she's
always throwing her stockings at people and they're rubbing them on their
face, that was where her feet! Everybody gets a foot stink, especially in tights. But I feel like that's that that that that that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's th th th th th th th th th the the the thi the thi thi thi thi thi. thi. thi. thi. the thi. thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. I would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would would the the the the the their their their their th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi's thi's the is theeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeateeeeate. I theeeeee. I's theee. I's thi. I's thi. I in tights. But I feel like that's a very thing of the era that they're aping as well, like the men
want to smell your stockings.
Ew!
What?
Ew!
Grow up!
In the next scene at the burlesque show, one of the talents people just goes.
Which is like what I want to yell at stocking snifers.
I like that the, it's like, I felt like those guys were supposed to be comedic relief until
they're not. Until they're super not.
But it's just like, oh, they're fucking witches.
What are you doing here?
Go home, witches. And the witches are like, yeah, they're kind of rude, but it's like, it's, I. I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I like, I like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, I like, like, I like, I like, I like, I like, I like, I like, I here? Go home, witches.
And the witches are like, yeah, they're kind of rude, but it's better than it was in San Francisco, you know?
Like, I'm just real mean down there and up here, it's all right.
And we meet the head witches of her coven, I guess.
Sure.
And there's, it feels like a hard-sell multi-level marketing scheme to me when they're talking about the Coven.
Oh yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Have you ever fucked with Satanists?
Oh no.
Oh no.
It's some bullshit.
I've never had the opportunity.
No one's ever offered me Satanism.
No, really?
No.
told me.
to me. occulties circles. No, no sir. I've known some Satanist in one day. I believe that wholeheartedly.
I think it was because like I was a metal kid and all that stuff so. Which is different,
different times, different places. Different strokes. Different strokes. I'm not saying I wouldn't
dabble in Satanism. I'm saying I haven't dabled in Satanism. But like, you know, I've watched like I've watched like documentaries about Anton Levee and stuff and stuff. they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they're like, they're like, th. But like, th. I th. I've like, th. I've like, th. I've like, th. I've th. I've like, like, like, like, I've like, I've like, I've like, I've like, I've th. I've th. I've th. I've th. I've th. I've th. I've th. I've th. I've th. I've th. I've, I've, I've th. I've, I've, I've th. I've th. I've th. I've th. I've th. I've th. I've th. I've th. I've th. I've th. I've th. I've th. I've thi, I've thi. I've thi. I've thi. I've thi. I've thi. I've thi. I've thi. I've thi. I've thi. I've documentaries about Anton Leve and stuff and like, they nailed it.
That's exactly how much of a grosso of those people are.
Like when Gahan meets her at the burlesque club and he walks over and he kisses like above her
business and then like her breasts.
Yeah, yeah, and then like kisses her on the mouth and she's like staring off to the side like, oh god, I hope
this is over soon. Which then we see happen again again as he thue that th. As th. th. th. that th. th. th. th, thi thi thi thi thi that thi th th th th thi thi thi thi thi the the the the the the thi's thi's the's tho th. That's th. That's th. That's th. That's th. I the kisses her on the mouth and she's like staring off to the side like, oh god, I hope this is over soon. Which then we see happen again as he jumps her into the coven basically
and she's looking off to the side. Like I'm just sick of this shit, you know I'm sick of watching
the shit in movies. Yeah, for sure. Right. If you're going to, if you're going to ape and then fuck with these ideas, you can do away with that stuff.
You can rewrite that history and rewrite that, like, you know, just Quentin Tarantino this shit, like, fucking murder Hitler.
Right, right. Do whatever you want, yeah.
So we don't need these like gross sexual situations.
But again, that's to my taste.
Like I don't really want to watch that stuff.
Right.
Like it's not what I go out for.
I love that.
I love that her husband signed that photo to her,
love Jerry.
On the front, like he painted it.
I really did love that. I was like, you do you, Jerry. Get an 8x by 10 of yourself right? Love Jerry on it and give it to your wife. I also love that she
can single shot fill a 24-ounce mason jar with piss. Yeah, it was a morning
pee, I think. Because she woke up and I thought, my god, she shouldn't sleep with all that makeup on. I wouldn't want to redo it the next day. I would just try to to to to to to to to to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do to do the to do the the, the the, to do, the the, to the the, to to to the, to the, to the, the, the the, the, th. I guess, I mean, it's like basically an outline for you to continue, you know, get it on
the next day.
Or the, uh, the Hercule Perot where he wears the little mustache card.
Oh, I like that.
Oh, I like, that.
Wayne's dead. the Boulder over the beginning of the movie, which I really like the dumbness of that one scene where they're like, I know you from somewhere. Because he's
investigating Wayne's death and goes to her and she's like I didn't do it and
he's like yeah you're hot you probably didn't do. Yeah. Because he is not
bewitched, right? He's just you know DTF. Okay. He's not bewitched. But like is he that unprofessional that he would he that he would he w I that he would that he would that he would that he would that he would that he would that he wa. that he would that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that the the the the the the the the th. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. tooooooooooooooooo. I that's that's that that that that that thatthat unprofessional that he would go out with horseback riding and making out and have a mock wedding at a Renaissance fair
with a suspect of a crime? Yes. I mean that's why I was like okay so she must have
a taskil on him but no she's just a pretty lady. She's just a pretty lady who
also thus to murders people yeah pretty lady. She's a pretty lady who also uses poisons.
Uh-huh, murders people.
Yeah, yeah.
But like the hallucinogens might make you think something, I don't know.
Sure.
Sure, sure, sure.
Like, what?
Because she drugs, uh, Richard, too. Yeah, which just being a pretty lady who wants to fuck, to fuck, to fuck, to fuck, to fuck, to fuck, to to fuck, to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the to to tho thi, the thi, tho the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the's what's killing them, because Jipson's poison. Yeah, but he dies of suicide.
It's true.
Oh my god, this is so stupid.
Ha ha ha ha ha ha.
Do you have the notes?
Oh, there's a lot of little peepers in this movie.
Yeah, a lot of times. new peepers, big old boobs. I was like, good on you guys, get those little, little dicks. You can go do it, get out there and get naked. Yeah. Oh yeah. Fuck it.
Fuck it. It seems like a lot of work to be a witch. I think we talked about this in like the
original Susperia, no, probably the new Susperia. Sure. I would like to be in a co to all the meetings. It's a lot. Yeah, yeah, for sure. Yeah, yeah, it's worse than being like a in the Elk Lodge or whatever. Yeah, yeah, yeah. There's
just like a lot of like, ugh, there's just a, I mean, like there's got to be a
Wednesday where you're like, I don't feel like getting fucking naked and a room full of people. I don't think you can just like, I'm tha tha tha tha tha tha th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I just like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the the the'm so tired. Can I just see you next week instead?
We really need you for the sex magic? So we're gonna be doing the naked hour in
the backyard by the fence, so we're gonna need you there? We're gonna be listening to
blood sluggers, sex magic? We need to come down. Then we're gonna have a cocktail hour afterwards. Do you want to, are you sure you can't make? the, you the theto the town's only bar slash burlesque club. What is that? Why are they all drinking there?
Why? And then they're going to insert their own dancers, the two weird like sisters? What was their point?
I was like, are you an allegory for something? I mean, there was definitely like using the burlesque club and like to like bounce ideas off of witchcraft
like where the I'm so mad right now tell me more. The the Gahan guy is like you know persecution of which is just
persecution of women they don't like women sexuality. Sure. Meanwhile it's a room full of people
that are barking and hooting and hollering at, you know, women's sexuality.
Yeah.
So it's like, it's this, you know, yeah, they're trying to prove points.
What is the point?
Uh, okay.
I don't know.
Okay.
I don't know.
I mean, that, the like too many, too many irons, too many, yeah.
I mean, this is, the director's like first major motion picture, and she wrote, edited, directed,
produce, like, this is her thing.
Yeah, I think she's, I read somewhere that she spent like years and years and years just on the set design. I'm sure. It was gorgeous. It was gorgeous. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. th. th. th. th. th. th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th thi thi thi thi's th i it's just th i it's just th i it's th i it's th i it's th i it's th i it's th i it's th i it's th i it's th i it's th i it's th i it's th i it's th i it's th i it's th i it's th i it's th i it's th i it's th i it's th i it's th i th i th i th i th i thi thi thi thi thi thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. It's I think she's I read somewhere that she spent like years and years and years and years just on the set design
I'm sure. Yeah. It was gorgeous. Yeah. Yeah. I just feel like the message falls so flat
It falls apart. It becomes a satire of itself. You know I do. And I think that's shitty. I think we deserve
feminist horror movies that aren't like
half-hearted attempts and making a
woman seem masculine as a commentary on gender roles or like in which a
female friendship one of to me one of the cornerstones of feminism is destroyed
because you wanted someone else's husband to love you like and I get that she's the bad guy, but like, it's not feminist,
the things that she does are not, there's no good feminism here.
It's not, it's not her behavior and it's not the opposite of her behavior.
Like, none of them, I don't know.
I'm having such a hard time with it because I don't understand what people see in it. And it me feel like a bad feminist or like I don't get it but then I talked
to a lot of other women who are like no I don't think so. I have also talked to
multiple women who have said no you're fine. So why does this? So I mean I was talking to Amanda of the the Pitt episode and of the Goul and Goul podcast about this and she she she she she she she she she she she she she she she she she th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. they're mostly nerdy dudes and they're like oh yeah a woman's doing something
that's fucking feminism trademark you know for sure I think there are a lot of
people who that that's as far as they're willing to go with the idea of feminism
just like women taking actions you got a job that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that's that that's that that's that's that's that's that's that's th th th th th thi thi thi tho tho tho tho thi thi thi to to to to to to to to to to to thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi th th th th th th th th th th th is thi th is thi thi thi thi to thi thi to to to to thi to to to thi thi to to to to the to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the idea of feminism. Just like women taking actions?
You got a job. That's feminism. Aren't you happy now?
For sure. Like...
And also, like, there's part of me that's like, I feel bad overly critiquing this movie.
Why? It's, it's absurd. Why do you feel bad overly critiquing this movie. Why? It's absurd.
Why do you feel bad overly critiquing it?
Because she spent so much time doing all this stuff and she did it all herself and like, I can't
fucking do that?
But...
We critique a lot of movies, Alan.
It's true.
I did tear a lepercot apart.
No one spent a lot of time on that to be fair, to be fair. But because I
want I want those feminist movies to be out there, I want that to be a
thing that happens. I want, I want women to be able to go to movies and see
themselves in film. And that does not happen in this movie. Right, right. And not, and you don't even want to be the opposite of Elaine. You know, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, you, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, the, the, the, the, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, that, tho, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, tho, tho, the, tho, the, tho, tho, tho, the, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho,? Like, it's not even that she's like a wholehearted anti-feminist. It's, you don't, you know, like there's no, it's not the mirror image of Elaine
as the feminist lifestyle or something. It's not like that. She's just shitty. Yeah, yeah. And she has bad
ideas. Well, even like Trish or, um, I can't remember the, is it Barbara? Barbara, who is in the coven with her.
They both espouse feminist ideas and stuff, but like,
Trish does a heel turn when she wants to be Elaine.
Well, she's grieving. She's grieving and she's confused and she's angry.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. But like, the fact that...
Yeah, so the the theme, I'm sorry to cut you off there,
but like the best feminist character in the movie is brought to doubt her own position,
which was like, don't please men all the goddamn time.
And then at the end, she's like, maybe I should have pleased men all the goddamn. How is this feminist? Because it's a joke? Are you making a joke out of this? Are you saying it ironically?
Like, the more I talk about this, the angrier I'm getting.
The more you're affirming the fact that my idea that with this is satire is just kind of
falling flat because I don't, if it was, it didn't satirize it properly.
No.
It's like, it's poking fun at it. Yeah. But not in like a way that it's in on
the joke. I don't know how to describe it. Yeah. Are you, okay. So you've gone on a couple
dates with a guy. Sure. You guys have gone horseback riding. No. As you do.
Okay. Can we make it ice skating? I would go ice skating. I would go ice skating. Okay fine. You can't ice skate into the mountains. Well you probably th. th. th. th. th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th th th th th th th th th thin thin thin th. thin th. th. th, but you can't get ice skate into the mountains.
Well, you probably can in Finland. Hi, Finland.
Up a waterfall.
Okay.
I did find out the other day that I'm outrageously allergic to horses.
Oh, Missy hung out with a horse.
Why? I can't believe I was in the room with someone earlier hung out with a horse one of her best friends rides horses on purpose
which not being held against her will
no no no she loves him yeah missy like horses missy loves him so she was
never had this argument she was hanging out and felling they was like a throat's a really. I'm today to hissue to horses because that means we never have to be a to be a th a th th th th th th th th the the their a their a their a their their their their their their their their their their th. I I th. I th. I th. the. the. the. She was thi. thi. that that's that's. She was that's. She was th. She was th. She was th. She was thi. She was thi. She was thi. She's. She's. She's. She's. She thi. She th th th th th th th th th that th that that th that th th that th that th thi. I I I I thi. thi. that thin. that thin. that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that's that that's that's that that's the the the the the the the the the were in a car together and I was like, oh my my throat's real itchy and my eyes are swelling so I'm so glad you're allergic
to horses because that means we never have to be around one. We could do like a
charity event sometime where if we raise enough money for a very for a charity I
would touch a horse. Oh my god think about that. That's a good charity stunt.
I have multiple friends with horses so we can make this happen.
Do you really?
I have, no, God.
You don't have any horse buddies?
No.
I got a centaurs.
I got a centaur that are going to figure out.
Oh, that's right, Benjamin. You go horseback riding with this guy on a few dates. In this fantasy world I like horseback riding?
You do.
Okay, fine.
I'm riding horse.
Because you're a pretty pretty princess and you want to ride horses.
It's fine.
And so you get out to the woods and you see this rent fair going on and you're both like,
what the fuck is this?
And then he goes, oh, those are my friends. How do you drive a horse faster? Because that's what I would do.
I would kick that horse into the next gear and be about three towns over.
No, no runfares.
Yeah.
Would you willingly participate in a ritual that they want to perform
and they strip your clothes off?
Would you laugh?
No!
No.
No.
No. I didn't take any notes of this part because of the last thing is, um, there are
like all the Renaissance people are just laughing.
Laughing and laughing and laughing and I just wrote genuinely what is so funny, renaissance
people and then fuck I need a break from this movie.
So I guess I didn't take any notes when I turned it back on.
You never came back to the note portion. So yeah, they have this mock wedding.
While they're kissing, the horse is just looking directly
into the camera over their heads, which I actually thought was very funny.
I was like, horse don't look directly into camera.
Like, be a fucking professional.
Never trustay Benjamin. Yeah. And there's like the song being sung by these two young people that are singing a song
about love.
Did you think that that was either going to fade out or have some importance?
Because it does neither.
I thought they were just going to shoot a whole music video for me to watch.
Like, why did they do that whole song?
So the cop could have the internal monologue,
internal monologue, or he's like, being in love,
thou'n't to be at love.
I'm a man who only wants to do man stuff and never in love stuff.
Yeah, so she has this internal monologue, about how the more you know a man, the more you know a woman, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the more you know a man, the closer you get to him, the more you love him, and he's having an internal monologue about the more you know a woman, the more
you see her flaws, and the harder it is to love her. And I was like, mm-hmm,
this is very feminist. This is great. I'm so happy this is happening. I get that.
But like, what is the picture of Richard, because Trish goes over to hang out.
Oh, Richard kills himself.
Yeah, in the bathtub. Yeah. Looks more like a corpse than ever. But only just.
I do like the fact that he's laying there with both of his wrist open and then they zoom in on razor blades.
Yeah, we're good. We got got it sort of it thank you
there's also like very little blood too yeah yeah he do that with soap oh
razor blades okay I'm sorry I got you oh god he didn't just slip and fall on a
shampoo bottle
so Trish goes over to Elaine's apartment because she wants to see Elaine and she lets herself in oh she's dropping off the ring th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the th. the the the th. I the the th. I the th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I's th. I's th. I's th. I'm th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's like. I's like. It's like. I's is is like. I's is like. I's is like. I's is. It. It. It's is. It's is. It's is. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's and she lets herself in. She's dropping off the ring that uh Elaine basically fucked to get. It was like a fucking mood ring like, hold on to it.
Well, I'll get it later Trish, it's fine. Yeah. It's like the, it's their promise ring that maybe
someday they'll do something later. They must be the worst. Oh, because they meet up at the Victorian tea room again.
And Elaine is extremely rude to Trish.
She's a horrible friend.
I did like the Trish was in all black, while everyone else is in white and pink.
Yeah, I did like that too.
And she's still talking about how she's mourning and Elaine's like, oh, cool.
I met a guy. Yeah. He's just the one.
I just know it. And thinks she I got to go and just fucking walks out
but forces her foe wedding ring on to Trich's hand yeah before she leaves
whenever they are showing engagement rings they're always on their right
hands and I don't know what was meant by that well yeah interesting I don't
maybe so they didn't accidentally actually marry someone oh that'll
one slip you're married you don't want that that's a lot of legal burden it's oh yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th the th th th th th th th th th th the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th th th th of th of the the the the the the tho the tho tho the tho tho the tho the tho the tho the the the'll happen to you. That'll at one slip you're married. You don't want that. That's a lot of legal burden. It's true.
That's true. Men, am I right? And women, am I right?
Wow! Can we just stop with gender roles entirely? How do we, so yeah, uh, Tricia tax Elaine? How does Elaine get to the club with Griff, her new foe husband?
She gets back this.
He's already there.
He's just drinking there, and she walks in.
Right, and he's pissed at her, because he's figured out that she's the murderer.
Right, because, but he also punches his partner right in the face about it.
And like, this is even a weird thing about like the time too, like Griff has like a deep side part
60s cop look about him and he's wearing like big shoulder double-breasted suits and then his partner has like a close tryped hair and is wearing like slim fit modern suits. Yeah, yeah. But like what are you trying to tell me?
Like what is the message? Isn't it funny? Is it though? I don't know? I don't know? I don't th. It's th. It's th. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. It's. Like. It's. It's. Like. Like. It's. It's. Like. It's like. It's like. It's like. It's th. It's th. Like. th. It's th. th. the the the th. th. Like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th it funny? Is it though? I don't know either. It's distracting. I think it's distracting. I don't know. I feel like I'm being really mean about this movie and
I know a lot of people loved it and I just feel like, what is the point? What is it? Are you try?
Is it trying to say anything? I think so, but I think it's ineffectively doing it. Well, it needs to buck up.
But you did remind me of every time I watch Frankenstein and the dude shows up in the
fedore and I'm like, what?
Yeah, yeah.
So she meets her boyfriend cop at the bar.
Slash Club. bar slash burlesque club slash burles club and the crowd turns on her right my
notes get very a they start getting mad about the witches because the two girls
are the sisters are dancing and they're dancing badly and they're like
God these witches can't dance and then I don't remember oh they had just
been talking about the murder.
Murder of Wayne and how there was witch stuff on the burial site.
And the one woman who works at the bar was like,
oh, you killed that professor?
Yeah, because Griff confronts her, right, right.
So then the bar turns on her.
Burnts, chanting, burn the witch.
As you do.
And they're they they they they they they they they they they they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're starting they're starting they're starting they're starting they're starting they're starting they're starting they're starting they're starting the the the the the the the the witch. Burn the witch as you do. And they're starting to like carry her
out of the bar and then they put her on the ground, rip off her outer clothing
so it's just her lingerie underwear and then dude start unbuckling their pants.
Yeah. And the scene like then Griff is able to get her out of the out of the bar. Yeah. But it's still like... Why the fuck did you do that? Why? the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the the. the the the the. the the to to to to to to to to to the to to the the the the the the the the the the the the. the. th bar. Yeah. But it's still like- Why the fuck did you do that?
Why?
All right.
So here's my theory on this.
All right.
They were trying to show, again, this doesn't work with satire.
They were trying to show that male violence turns to sexual violence very fast.
Sure. But it's that like there's so much mixed
messaging going on? Yes. That like I have a hard time with isn't it funny that
we have cars from the 2000s in this 1960s movie and male violence turns to
sexual violence very quickly being in the same like headspace. Right. Isn't it funnythat we're having purposefully bad acting and then also just having a woman be like
brutalized for a third time? Yeah. And but also she's a terrible person so who
cares? Yeah. Yeah. Cool movie. And I know it's about, because this is the
scene where she does the speech about being a sex object.
So I'm sure that's part of it, like, she's just a sex object for their power.
But like, what?
No, I don't want this.
I feel real bad for bringing this to us.
Yeah.
Well, I mean, ah.
I didn't know. You didn't know.
So Griff, for whatever reason goes back to her apartment, instead of just taking her into the station.
Yeah, yeah, as you do, as a police detective.
And then he just lays down on her bed, which instead of just taking her again to the police station.
They're in a fight so he's going to take a nap.
Yeah, right. is what I got out of that. And then she stabs into death, just like the painting that she made.
She like looks at the painting where she's cut out, in the painting the woman with the
dreadlucks has cut out the man's heart.
But the heart is like a heart, like a Valentine?
A Valentine?
Like, that's another thing we're like, weigh.
the painting, th Yeah, I understood it. You showed us that painting 15 times? Are you, okay, all right.
No, zoom in on it.
Oh, zoom in, thank you.
Thank you.
Thank you.
Can you lay the painting next to him in bed?
And that's, uh, that's the. Yeah, hopefully it was funny at some points anyway. Yeah. Fuck it. It can't all be funny. Sometimes we have to have serious talks, right? I guess.
Katie. Alan. Let's go to the, uh, raining space. Are you making yourself small because
that's a thing women do to take up less space? Oh my god, no. Do you want to rate this?
Yeah.
Go ahead.
Uh, zero copies of the feminine mystique.
I'll tell you what, it's a beautiful film.
Yeah.
It is gorgeous.
It is absolutely a delight to look at, even if the timing is very confusing of what's happening
in the scenes and when it's happening.
I just think that I also love a witch.
I love witches, man.
I want to see more witches.
For sure.
And I'm which I feel bad because I really didn't like the news Asperia either.
So it almost seems like I'm lying, but I swear I like witches. Another movie that we did not like and people fucking loved. You know what
though like I can see why people like that I guess maybe now I don't see what
is the messaging of this film is. I just I feel let down that this is considered
like a feminist success. I feel let down that like we don't have better feminist
horror movies and there are like I liked a girl walks home alone at night a lot.
Sure.
I feel like that was a good feminist horror movie.
Sure.
Did you see, you did see, uh, the one with the game and the girl from the ready or not?
Ready or not?
I feel like that was a good feminist movie.
I really enjoyed that movie. Yeah. I don't like like like like like like like like th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th like th like th like thi thi th thi thi thi thi thi th. I don't think it was a great movie but it was much the it was fun.
It was fun. Yeah yeah yeah. This doesn't have like this isn't fun and it doesn't
tell a story very well and it doesn't send a message very well. Yeah.
And it's so long. So yeah zero copies of the feminine mystique. I don't know what that that tans tans tans tans tans tans tans tans tans tans that that that that that that te that that that that that that that that that tha that that that tha that that tha that that that that that that that that's the is that's that's fun. It was fun. It was fun. It was fun. It's fun. It's fun. It of the feminine mystique. I don't know what that
translates to in numbers but... Sorry, Emily. Sorry. I will give it zero your real
heart is a Valentine's heart. Yeah, it's just it's very pretty to look at, talking with a friend about this and she said like basically it's gorgeous to look at it's a waste your fucking time. It is a waste your fucking time and I
I left this movie feeling bad. Yeah. Like I felt like I wasn't a good feminist because I didn't
agree with the premises that it was setting forth even though the premises are so muddy it's hard to pull them out anyway.
Premises premises premises premises premises premises premises, or like that I just was stupid
and didn't get it.
Yeah, I mean, I think that's what I was kind of alluding to earlier is like I feel like
a bad ally, because I'm not like supporting this thing that should be a feminist thing.
Well if you want it to be a feminist thing, have a real clear message I would say.
Yeah.
Is that too...
The one upshot of this is that I was like, oh, I'd like to see what this person does next.
Because I think the visual aspect of this was on point.
Sure.
So if the storytelling aspect can be on point, I think there's a great movie to be made somewhere in this universe.
Yeah, just without all the muddling. There I there are things that we haven't
even talked about like the male gaze of in filmmaking and like just all these
little bits that she tried to mash into one like mashed potato monster of a movie and then like 75% of the
way through the mashed potatoes all like got dry and cracked and fell over. Oh man you gotta the like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like like the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the m. their the m. Oh man, you gotta keep them soft.
You gotta give them...
Gotta put a little butter on them.
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Yeah.
Yeah, per seething.
I don't know why I was thinking about that this morning, but I was.
I was thinking about it basically in terms of this movie, because I was like, is the feminist the I think I can have a little bit of salami.
I don't know.
Like, I don't know.
I just feel like there's better feminism out there.
What? Yeah.
For you and for me and the entire human race.
I would agree.
Thanks. Katie. Alan. Can I take you to a little place that I like to call Mailback?
Please.
This is a review that we got on iTunes.
Okay.
Been listening and loving for years.
Oh, damn.
Five stars from R.J.

Then this is the 100% the podcast for you.

I think that's bang on.
Yeah.

Something way more fun that also is slightly problematic. I'm gonna argue with you.

Up top. Slam dunk. So watch Can't Hardly Wait, Jordan next week. And youuh, thanks for everybody who's been buying stuff on T-Public.
Yeah.
That's really nice of you.
Hey, I had a little bit of a rough week personally last week.
