Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey Katie. Hi Alan. Welcome back to you as well. I was going to say how you doing, but I know not to do that right now. No, it's a hard habit to break saying how you doing. It really is. It really is. A thing I like is if someone says, how
Starting point is 00:00:25 you doing, you doing okay? Just saying, oh God, no. Maybe we should just start saying hail and well met again, like we're in a D&D campaign. I'm just drinking mead. So we're here to talk about a movie that you picked. I did pick this movie. The guest. Probably not a horror movie, so you know that I picked it. I feel like the conceit of this movie is very horrific. Oh yeah. And it's funny because when you suggested this I was like, fuck yeah, I fucking love that movie.
Starting point is 00:00:58 That dude, Dan Stevens, he's the hero of the movie, and then I watched it went, oh th, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, the the the movie and then I watched it went oh no I was wrong it was very wrong! What did you think it was about? I thought it was about the first 45 minutes of the movie when he is the hero of the movie. Oh my god that's so funny. My dumb brain was like oh yeah you forgot all that stuff. Yeah that's basically the gist of it you know. That downtown Abbey guy is a bad dude. I think you once proposed on the show that movies that happen around Halloween automatically make them a horror movie. And this movie definitely does that. So I'm staking my stake there, mistaken my claim there.
Starting point is 00:01:42 Yeah, I'm still hoping one day we will do arsenic and old lace starring Carrie Grant, which takes place on Halloween. I mean, if we run out of other movies, I guess. It's a good movie. It's real good. It's got Peter Lorry in it. I don't know, I was going to take a centrum silver or something, something an old man would do.
Starting point is 00:02:10 This movie is very hip, it's very now, it's very young, it's very cool. Are you talking about the guest? So this movie is from 2014. We meet David, who is a soldier, he's running down the street. He's running to the home of the Peterson's. What? He's just running, I guess. Yeah, I mean that comes that comes to fruition later on in the movie. Yeah, when you realize that he is a super soldier, maybe robot, murder machine. How long did it take you to realize that when you watch the movie? The first time? The first time?
Starting point is 00:02:51 When like the full, when, when the full flip happens, or when he's talking to the young boy and says, don't let people pick on you, if they pick on you, go to their house and burn their house down with their family inside of it. Yeah. It's played by a very hunky Dan Stevens in this movie. He looks fucking insane in this movie. He's like Marvel superhero ripped when he's like shirtless. That scene where he comes out of the shower, like Mica Monroe's reaction is like every woman's reaction to that. It is so fucking funny. Oh no, I would need to take a beat if that, he's got
Starting point is 00:03:29 those muscles, you know the ones I'm pointing at, the ones that go down, they go down, they go down. I like that you're making that gesture at me. Everyone knows what I'm talking. The ones that ripped and have been on downtown Abbey. Like I feel like those two things. I have not watched any downtown Abbey. We're saying that, right? Yeah, we both know it's wrong, but we're saying it. Should I? Should I watch it?
Starting point is 00:04:02 Oh yeah. Especially, I think the first season's fantastic. I kind of fell off after that, but it's fine. Like I think it would, especially right now, it's pretty innocuous in a lot of ways. Does Dan Stevens take his shirt off in it? No, uh-uh, no, you never see his 12 pack or whatever the fuck he's got to go and those muscles. Hmm? Well, then I just won't stop doing it. I'm looking right at you. But he shows up and he's a British man doing a military southern accent. Is the only way I can describe it? Yeah, he's a British man who's set to like super folksy. Yes ma'am. Yes ma'am. Yes, ma'am.
Starting point is 00:04:42 He's doing it though, I guess. I mean, what he's doing is what I think British people think all American people sound like. Yehaw, moth-fuck, we do. I do like that immediately there's just like jack-a-lanterned scarecrows and Halloween decorations everywhere and they're like it's Halloween. Come on guys, go! Yeah, I do like that too. It's a nice, um, just like backdrop for the film. At this house that has no one around it. They're never going to get a trick-or-treater in a million years. No, that's true. Like where it in the fuck is this? Where would you live like that? Arizona, I assumed. Oh, why'd you just had that vibe. Just the landscape and stuff. Yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:05:26 So he shows up at the home of the Peterson's to tell them that he was friends with their son Caleb who was killed in the war in Afghanistan. Right. And there's a very heartbreaking scene of his mother going into like another room and just sobbing, which is like very hard to watch. Yeah, this movie is done by the same folks who did Your Next. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:50 And I feel like this movie and that movie do like emotional weight in a movie that shouldn't have it very well. Right. They carry that stuff really well. Like you see her, because he becomes very ingrained in their family. And you're like, why the fuck would you let this happen? You know, like he's in the principal's office with her. He's been staying with him for like a week, you know?
Starting point is 00:06:12 Oh man, that seems so good. Yeah, it really is. But you can like see how she's being emotionally manipulated to basically believe like this is a replacement for her son. Well, sure sure and she immediately like she's like hey just stay in his room stay in my dead son's room this will be fine. Yeah but I love that doesn't hurt that he's so hot. Oh sure she's like oh I'm probably gonna see you coming out of the showers. Yeah it's gonna be so steamy. I love when he's like oh I'm just gonna go to sleep and he goes and sits down in the room and scowl at the window the window the window the window the window the window the room. the room. the room. the room. the room. the the room. the the to the the the the to the the the to the to to to to to to to to to to to to to the the the to be to be the the to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be they. I's the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the their theyo. theyo. Ie. theyo. I's theymea. they. theymea. I's they. I's they. I's just going to go to sleep and he goes and sits down in the room and scowls at the window. He does that twice, which I really like because it indicates that he never sleeps.
Starting point is 00:06:50 Well, yeah, and at one point someone's like, hey, don't you, you want to get some rest? He's like, oh, I don't sleep. I don't need much sleep. I'll sleep. I'll sleep. I'll sleep. I'll th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I'll th. Yeah. Yeah. I'll th. Yeah. Yeah. I'll th. I'll th. Yeah. Yeah. I'll th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I'll that. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I I I'll. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I'll. I'll. I'll. Yeah. I'll. I'll. I'll. I'll. I'll. I'll. I'll. I'll. I'll. I'll. I'll. I'll. I'll. I'll. I'll. I'll. Yeah. I'll. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. that. th. th. also in this family is a younger son who is like, I don't know, a midteen, like 14 maybe? Yeah. And then Micah Monroe from It Follows. And another movie we watched at Ladies Nightmare in which she is kidnapped by a guy who has like an AI system in his house that she then like teaches the AI system to love. Weird. Tow? Tau? Tau? Yeah, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. the. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. the. Yeah. the. Yeah. Yeah. th. th. Yeah. th. Yeah. Yeah. th. th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, the the the the the the the th, the th, I, I, th, th, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. A. A. th. th. A. th. I. I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I th, I th, I th, th, th, th, th. th. to, to, to, to, to, to, to, thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. AI system in his house that he that she like then like teaches the AI system to love. Weird. Tow towel maybe? Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah is that good no. She teaches like an Amazon Alexa to love oh oh in a horror movie. Or at least a thriller at least a thriller, at least a thriller. My favorite fact to point out about her and I probably didn't, it follows is that she's
Starting point is 00:07:49 a competitive kiteboarder. Oh, I think you did point that out because that does sound familiar now. Because it's like, oh, okay. And then you look at her, like, oh, yeah, of course she is. thi. When we first see her in this movie, she's sleeping in her bed on top of the covers wearing like knee socks, underpants, and like, I can't remember what she's wearing on top, but it's absurd. And a little bit of cornedroes.
Starting point is 00:08:16 Yeah, and just a little bit cornrows. Yeah, I was like...It looks nice though. Oh yeah, yeah, she's got a good look. Especially like that she goes to work and like die-high nylons and garters in her like waitress dress. There is not a scene in this movie where she is not wearing at least a leg warmers. Yeah, she's got great music taste though. Yeah, she's listening to a lot of, I made Alan explain to me what it was before this episode started.
Starting point is 00:08:50 Your New Wave, your post-rock, yeah, your goth rock maybe. A little electronic stuff, stuff, music's. A lot of clan of Ximox in this movie, which I'm a big fan of so I was stoked. I've been playing your 90s playlist for Lucy a lot lately because she just really likes screaming. Oh my like emo screamo playlist? Yeah yeah she's pretty into it. She's the right age for it. I was like she's really enjoying this which says something either about her or Alan and I don't know which. I feel like a two and a half year old were really getting mineral in a way that a 46 year old wouldn't.
Starting point is 00:09:30 I love mineral. Oh, I love mineral. Oh, man, I saw them in a club and that ruined them for me. Why? Oh, they were bad life. Really? Oh, that's such a bummer. I saw them in a club with Jimmy Eat World right before Jimmy Eat World broke. Oh, man, Jimmy World, that first record is so good. Static prevails. It's so good. Yeah. Yeah. There's some jams.
Starting point is 00:09:55 Something about this pandemic has made me really reflect on when I was younger for some reason. I've just been thinking a lot of like the music I would listen to when I was 18 and yeah I don't know what that is that weird like toxic nostalgia that's happening right now in this period and pandemic. Yeah it makes sense though like yeah I've been listening to a lot of hateful black metal so I feel like like I'm like I'm at the opposite end of that. Or we're just all regressing, I don't know. Like, you and I are undeniably stupider. So it's like we're getting younger.
Starting point is 00:10:36 I don't know. Maybe this is a good thing. Everything's getting younger about me than except for my face. So Dan Stevens, David, ingratiates himself into this family and they invite him in. Yeah, I would never invite a stranger into my home. I can't imagine that trauma that the family has experience of losing their son and having someone come into a house and be like, oh, I knew him and I was there when he died. Yeah, I guess you're right. There's like a part of me that would just feel like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thin, thi, thi, thin, thii, thin, thi, thi, thin, thi, thi, the house and be like, oh I knew him and I was there when he died. Yeah, I guess you're right. There's like a part of me that would just want to like emotionally sponge all of that in.
Starting point is 00:11:12 You know what I mean? Just like grab all of that. I guess. It's unhealthy. No, no, you're right. Okay, fine. I'll be more forgiving but still I would never let a stranger in my home ever. Also he mentions that he ran from the bus station which was miles and miles and miles away. Yes ma'am I just ran down here. I need the exercise. I can't even do
Starting point is 00:11:35 it. I feel like Dan Stevens is doing a better American accent than I am. It's a little like more subtle than how hard we're hitting it like we're definitely going like full like Kentucky and he's not quite there he's more But he's like a West Virginia. Yeah, yeah, he's a little little bit more northern Northern yeah, northern nor the North Nor'er Nor'easter So we meet dad dad's a real dick a real pain in the ass He's a real just tool. Yeah, love his. He's a real, just tool, yeah. Love his mustache, though.
Starting point is 00:12:10 It's tight. He's got a tight mustache. Tight mustache. And he's just like pounding brewdogs in a very uncomfortable way. Yeah. Just like, Dad, reel it in a little bit. And he tells Dan Stevens about the hard time he's having at work with the new guy who got promoted above him and he's bummed about it, which will come back later.
Starting point is 00:12:32 It's so, but when I completely forgot about that, and when it came up again, I was like, oh, holy shit. That is so bananas. This movie, from the, from the outset does not seem like it's going to to be bananas. And then it just goes bananas.. B bananas. th a th a th th th th th the th th the th th th th the from the outset does not seem like it's going to be bananas and then it just goes bananas. Yeah, yeah and then like once it goes bananas it's like let me just start putting my foot on the gas and it's just going to get more and more fucking bananas. And it's just so funny too. It's just like so it's like so absurd it's funny. The people that are cast in this movie do such a good job at playing it dead pan.. And th. And th. And th. And th. And th. And th. And th. And th. And th. And the th. And th. And the th. And their th. And it's th. And it's th. And it's th. And it's th. And it's th. And it's just th. And it's thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi. And it's just thi. And it's just thi. And it's just thi. And it's th. And it's th. And it's th. And it's th. And it's th. And it's th. And it's th. And it's th. And it's th. And it's the their th. And it's their their th. And it's thi. And it's thi. And it's just thi. And it's just thi. And it's just thi. It's just their. It's just thi. It's just thi. It's just thi. It's just thi. It's just their. It's just their. It's just like so, it's like so absurd, it's funny. The people that are cast in this movie do such a good job at playing it deadpan? They are, they are all playing it like this is a serious thriller. Like, Mike and Monroe, like, she does the same thing it follows, where she's like, I'm
Starting point is 00:13:17 not going to give you a lot, but I'm going to give you enough. She seems, she has such a cool board look about her. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like this is what I'm saying about having no chill. I have never been able to pull off cool and board, you know, I'm extremely jealous. That's a thing you can only do if you're being or are a team. Like if you were like, yeah if you're 36 and you're coming at me with cool and bored I'm probably gonna beto be like well I mean there's a lot of stuff to do we can do other things like you know yeah this is my problem I'm in my 18 year old mind I just want to be cool and board it's a problem I mean I've never been but I know I was never that so
Starting point is 00:13:59 it doesn't matter yeah I was never that I was always like I, like, I think that's why I desire chill so much, it's because I'm so not. I'm like, what do you want to do? What are we doing? What are we doing? Where it's going? What is going? So, like, I want to, I want to to know that chillness. I'm also nebious shit where I just want to know every detail of, you know. You just need some documentation about everybody. I just need a little bit of paperwork. So David immediately identifies that Luke, who is the younger brother, who I got very excited about because I just watched all of the show the O.A. And he plays a character named Jesse and that and I was like, oh shit, Jesse's in this.
Starting point is 00:14:43 Oh cool. Whichever you're looking for something to binge, everybody. It's not a bad binge. It's two seasons, and you knock it out pretty quick. I will do that. Working on Silicon Valley right now. Oh, nice. Yeah. It's the guy that was in Freaks and thiks and to that show. It's amazing that he can play that character in so many things.
Starting point is 00:15:05 Just over and over again. And you're always like tickled by it. He's literally that character and Party Down. Yeah, Party Down is what? He's in the hard science fiction. Hard sci-fi. And in this one, you're just like, yeah, I'm a Lovay and Satanist. I l I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm like, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I'm like, I'm just like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, yeah, yeah, like, like, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, like, yeah, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm a th. Yeah, I'm a that, I'm a that, I'm a that, I'm a that, I'm a that, I'm a, I'm a. Yeah, I'm a. that, I'm a that, I'm you so much. It's everything that just makes you sound like a dick. He does so well.
Starting point is 00:15:27 He's so good. So David identifies that Luke is being picked on. Which it seems like nobody else in his family has. Yeah, yeah, for sure. I think they all are just, the parents are so wrapped up in the loss of the one son that the other kids have just gone up, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, thi, thi, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, thi, thi, thi, th............ And, th..... And, th..... And, th.. And, th.. And, th. And, th. And, th. th. th. th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. thi. th. th. th. th. th. they. they's, they's, they's, their, their, their, their, the loss of the one son that the other kids have just gone like Anna Mike and Rose character is just like hanging out with like her kind of derpy boyfriend smoking pot on the swing sets after work and stuff. Yeah. Which I mean admittedly at 18 since it's like a pretty sweet ride. I mean I literally have a note here that says being being young is cool. Her boyfriend is a th wait, her Zeke.
Starting point is 00:16:05 Chase Williamson is in this movie called John Dyes at the end. Ooh, I've always wanted to watch that, but it's like a thing I've meant to and have never gotten around to. It's really fun and he's really good in that movie. Oh, cool. It's directed by the director of Fantasmastone. Don Coscarelli. Oh, Don Cascarelli. Domin, Domin't Cascarelli. Dominic, you're making a movie. But so yes, she's just like got this like kind of derpy boyfriend who's just a high all the time.
Starting point is 00:16:35 David teaching Luke how to stick up for himself is so fucking ridiculous. This scene, this scene in the bar, is just absolutely bad shit. This is day two of his staying with them. But it's, yeah, he goes to pick Luke up from school, and he's like, show me who picked on you. And he shows him the football jock men who picked on him, who go to this bar, they follow him, and then David orders insulting drinks. He does, insulting drinks.
Starting point is 00:17:09 But he orders himself a fireball, which is peppermint, or no, I'm sorry, cinnamon schnops and tabasco sauce? Which the bartender seems to know about. Is that a real thing? Not that I've ever heard of. Oh my God. It sounds straight up disgusting. And I I I I toaaaaa. toa. toa. toa. toa. toa. thiaa. thiiii. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thioliolioli. thi. thi. thiol-a. thiol-a. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. toa. toa. toa. toa. toa. toa. toa. toa. toa. toa. toa. toa. toa. toa. toa. toa. thi. thi. thi. th a real thing? Nothing I've ever heard of. Oh my God. It sounds straight up disgusting. I also kind of want to try it. You might as well. Liquor stores are opening back up, buddy.
Starting point is 00:17:30 You can do it. Give me your finest cinnamon schnops. And he orders the women that are, the girls that are with the football players, he orders them, because they're all underage. Yeah, they're high school kids. Drinking at the their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their the football players, he orders them, because they're all underage. Yeah, they're high school kids. Drinking at this bar. He orders the women at the table blowjob shops, which I have no idea what that is. I don't know. And the men cosmopolitan's to insult them because it's a lady drink. I love how annoyed the bartender is about having to make the cosmopolitan's. He's like, come on.
Starting point is 00:18:08 And so David just pulls out the stack of money. Stack of hundreds, yeah. And Luke is like, are you rich or something? And David just looks at him and goes, cash is easy to get. Which is the first thing you're like, oh, up, maybe? Okay. All right, yeah. And he gets the insulted football man's come over and throw a drink in his face and then he throws the-
Starting point is 00:18:36 Would you really throw a drink in that guy's face? Like would you really? No, never. No. I would throw it in Luke's face before I throw it in David's face. Honestly. He throws the fireball shot into the other guys, which is basically throwing pepper spray into his eyes, which I really appreciate it.
Starting point is 00:18:56 And then proceeds to beat the living shit out of them. I mean, like really beat the living shit out of them. Like, like, he cripples them. Yeah, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the they, they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. they. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. throoo. thea. thea. throo. thea. thea. thi. th. th. out of them, like, he cripples them. Yeah, like breaking legs and like fucking them up. Like, but like, if you were a team being picked on, that is like the dream of what could happen to, like, you could see why Luke falls in love with him. Yeah, absolutely. Because he puts him inside of Robert Rodriguez movie. That is spot on.
Starting point is 00:19:27 And then... I think it's got to be it. It's got to be a nod. If only they had turned into vampires. Yeah. Oh, speaking of which, real quick, I just watched the Tom Savini documentary that's on Shutter. Oh, you finally watched it. Yeah? It's great. And he is so fucking charming in that documentary. It's so good.
Starting point is 00:19:47 Oh good, I'm glad to hear it. I hope he's doing well in these times. Me too. Yeah. We've just go knock on his door. Hey, is this weird? How you doing, bud. Just been thinking about you. Hi, Katie, Wherewell Fabulous. Perhaps you've heard of me. I've talked about your trash before. And also the fact that you don't salt your sidewalk. But I look, you know, and it's also that like, after he kicks these kids asses, he like turns to the guy and he's like, he puts money on the table and he's like, it's for the damages.
Starting point is 00:20:25 Yeah. Because he like breaks a pool cue over one of the guys and all this stuff, so. And he basically like sells it to the cops, like, or he sells it to, he basically sells it to the bartender. You can call the cops, but you know, you wouldn't wantthe whole thing right out the door, you know. Yeah, I love that explanation when he's like, you can tell him exactly what happens, what happened here and then makes up a lie about what happened. Right, right.
Starting point is 00:20:55 That's a good move. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And the guy's like, yeah, okay, fun. It's a cool move. I wish I was cool. He's so cool. This is where we then get the scene because Anna invites David to a party with her. Because her mom makes him. Yeah. Yeah. Hey, 17-year-old daughter, take this 20-something-year-old man to the party with you. This like extremely sexy 20-something-year-old daughter, take this 20-something-year-old man to the party with you. This like extremely sexy 20-something-year-old man.
Starting point is 00:21:29 And she's bagging to the door because she thinks her brother's in there and he comes hubbubbing out of the shower. Oh my god. That is not, you know, typically my type. Typically I like a weird dad, generally balding today. I was like am I wrong or is like governor Tom Wolf kind of sexy? You're wrong. Oh God, no You don't think he's kind of sexy? Not my type. I don't know what's happening to me. So like what I'm saying is Dan Stevens is a departure for me but oh boy there's just something about that whole him coming out of the bathroom that's like, oh yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:10 Oh yeah. And there's like a low base playing too, like, yeah. And you're definitely like, our point of view is like a Monroe at this point and you're just like, yeah. Yeah, girl, you get it. So they go to this party. It's a Halloween party. Her Halloween costume look is like a skull t-shirt tucked into shorts with a garter belt
Starting point is 00:22:37 and knee in like thigh highs. I was like, that's what you went into the costume party, huh? That's just what she wears every fucking day. You that's just her look? There are definitely, this this this this this th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi tho tho tho tho thi thi thi tho tho tho tho tho tho tho th. So th. So tho tho tho tho thi. So thi. So thi. So tho tho tho tho tho tho tho th went into the costume party, huh? That's just what she wears every fucking day. You think that's just her look? Because there are definitely people in costume there. Yeah, I mean, because that's, that look shows up later when she's at work, she has the garters and the thigh eyes on. Oh man.
Starting point is 00:22:55 Oh man. Okay. Yeah. Anna and Azik have th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, that, that, that's, that's, that's, that's that's, thi, that's that's that's that's that's that's tho, th. that's th. th. th. th. that's, th. that's, that's, that's, that's. That's. That's. that's. that's. that's. th. th. th. th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. that's that's that's that's that's thi. that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's the that's that's thi. thi. ththe bedroom to have uncomfortable high school sex. And David is left talking to Kristen, Anna's friend. And Kristen's boyfriend shows up, is a dick. David beats the shit out of him and tells his friends to carry him out of the house. And then they go and have sex. He gets, does he get like a super soldier boner?
Starting point is 00:23:27 Because it seems like a switch flips, because she's like, you're not that into and he goes, yes I am and then all of a sudden they're fucking. Yeah, when he like, he manhandlers, manhandles her and like flips her over, and she's like, oh yeah, you are. Yeah, that's so bizarre. Such a weird sex scene. A suit, like his dick just has a bayonet in it that makes it some list. Super soldier motor! Oh my god. We also see him chiefing, which is very, he can chief. Is that smoking weed?
Starting point is 00:24:02 Yeah. Okay, he can also carry two kegs, which I thought was very funny. Yeah. Have you ever tried to carry a keg? I have carried many kegs, but not by myself. Yeah, exactly. It just has one on his shoulder and he's like one-handing the other one. It's like, fuck you. Yeah. Every time I've carried a keg, I've just gotten bruises all over my legs from it just like slapping back and hitting me, you know, like, it's the hardest thing to carry. But that's another really good scene of, because Anna's sitting with Zeke when he comes walking in the house with the kegs, and she like looks at Zik who's just this like derpy dude smoking weed, and then looks at this like specimen of humanity, like Atlas with the world on his shoulders walking in.
Starting point is 00:24:47 And she's like, yeah, I would fuck the shit out of him right now. That was an option. Yeah, which it sort of starts to become for a minute. Like, uh, they start to have a little romance about a mix-CD. Right. Yeah, she's horny for that mix CD. Yeah, yeah, she's horny for that mix CD. Yeah, yeah she is. Which maybe like, remember us talking about making mix CDs and how great that was, like, and the mixtape and all that stuff?
Starting point is 00:25:13 And how horny you could get for someone with it? Or you're like, the attempt to make someone horny by making this mix today? Yeah, totally. The fact that she didn't do a trackli the CDO is like, mm-mm, you gotta do a track list, what's going on right now? You gotta tell him what songs he's listening to. I don't know. I don't know about that.
Starting point is 00:25:34 I've got to think about that. Oh, I always put so much time, maybe it's like, maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe, maybe, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to do a a a to do a to do a to do a to do a to do a to do a to do a to do a to do a to do a to to to to to to their, you a their, you a their, you a their, their, their their their their their their their their, their their, their, their, their, their their tra, their toa, toa, toa, toa, toa, to a to a the track listing, like making sure you knew, like I might even put what record the song came off of, and he should really like it. That's super you. But then they have to ask you what it is, Alan, that's why you don't tell them. Oh, sure, what's track seven? Oh, it's clan of zymox. It's all tired. I just burned you a today. I just just just just just just just just just just burned you. I just. I just. I just. I just. I just burned you. I just. I just. I just burned you. I just burned you. I just. I just. I just burned you. I just. I just burned. I just burned. I just burned. I just burned. I just burned. I just burned. I just burned. I just burned. I just burned. I just burned. I just burned. I just burned. I just burned. I just burned. I just burned. I just burned. I just burned. I just burned. I just burned. I just. I just. I just. I just. I just. I just. I just. I just. I just. I just. I just. I just. I just. I just. I just. I just. I just. I just. I just. I just. I just burned. I just that's like, hey, thank you for your service. I really respect you. And he gives the guy a bunch of shit about not signing up, but he's just flucky with him. Oh God, that's so uncomfortable. This movie really uses like people's reverence of the military against them. like a in a very like
Starting point is 00:26:27 Cheeky and strange way like It's definitely exploring this idea that like People will fall all over themselves about the military Yeah, and it's not a flattering picture of the military industrial complex either when we finally see that later on in the movie No, I'd say no. Yeah, but so the guys like he's like. thi. the. the thi. the, like, thi. Like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, the. the. the. the. the. the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, it. the, it. the, it. the, it's, it's, it's, it. the, it's, it's, it's, it's, the. they. the. the. the. later on in the movie. No, I'd say no. Yeah. I'd say no. But so the guy's like, he's like, hey, can you get me a gun? And the guy's like, yeah, let me call a guy.
Starting point is 00:26:51 Who's the guy he calls? Who does he bring to him? Ethan Embry. Ethan Embry. Hunky, hunky, Ethan, Embry. See, I feel like he's so far removed from where we've last seen him and can't hardly wait That it's like oh boy It looks like you had a rough time Ethan Embry Yeah, there's been some hard miles between
Starting point is 00:27:12 Whatever that guy's name what's the kids name in that movie? Preston Myers Preston Myers to Higgins There's a big jump between those two. Yeah, I mean, it's 16 years and you're seeing every one of them. I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, to, to, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, tho, tho, tho, th, th. a big jump between those two. Yeah, I mean it's 16 years and you're seeing every one of them. What happened to Ethan Embry in those 16 years? I like that he has sort of reinvented himself as a badass. Yeah. He's in this really good movie called Cheap Thrials. Okay. With the comedian David Keckner and the male lead from Innkeepers.
Starting point is 00:27:49 And also the female lead from Inkeepers is also in that. Oh, interesting. And it's a really fucked up movie, but Ethan Embry is great in it. But yeah, I like him as like the badass, like, he's worked super buff now and he's actually, and he's also really funny on Twitter. Yeah, he is. When you said he was in a really good movie, I thought you were gonna say Vegas Vacation,
Starting point is 00:28:10 where he's Mr. Papa Georgio. Is he super buff and balding in that though? No, that was his first movie. He's like a tiny, teenage baby. But I like the scene where he goes out and meets these guys in the desert and is like, hey, I'd like to buy all of your guns and I'm going to kill you for them. Yeah, that was really like, that's when the switch flips. Because to that point you think he's just like maybe a little messed up from the war, I guess, and maybe a little violent, but until he like tells these people that he's going to kill them, and then does kill one of them, and then needs to reload the gun
Starting point is 00:28:48 and does it so calmly, and lets this guy get so far away from him, and then just picks him off, it's like so fucked up. And I think that you shouldn't be able to shoot someone at that distance with a handgun, was sort of the vibe that I was getting to, and he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he was like, and he was like, and he was like, and he was like, and he was like, and he was like, and he was like, and he was like, and he was like, and he was like, and he vibe that I was getting to and he was like, no, I got it, I got this. Really? Because he was really far away at that point. How far can you shoot someone with a handgun? I mean, they're not rifles.
Starting point is 00:29:14 That's why rifles are bigger so you can shoot further away. Yeah, that makes sense. You think he just like mus you know, when someone picks on you, kill everyone in their family burning. But like you could be like, oh, maybe he's just being hyperbolic. Yeah. Until he starts killing everyone. To be fair, he does say bring a knife to school and then gives the child a knife, so I don't think that's actually hyperbole. I was wondering if you thought of me at this scene because the kid's like, why do you carry a knife? And he's like, because in case I need it.
Starting point is 00:29:55 I want to see if you can see this note that I have here. It says, see Alan carrying a knife is weird. Is it, Katie? Yes, I did. Is it weird? It is when you show it to me over Zoom. That's like the least, who is a friend of Anna. Right. And then in the very next scene, we see her dad come home from work and he just like immediately walks to his little home bar and pours a drink and tells us about how his boss and his boss's girlfriend were murdered in their home or no it looked like they committed
Starting point is 00:30:51 suicide. Yeah yeah yeah but the police were investigating and it's just like holy fuck and that's when Anna is like wait a god damn minute. Yeah I like this there's a scene I really like in this where she calls like the, basically the base and gets like a person and a call center. And then you can see the information moving up the chain of command. And it keeps, you talked about by people in like nicer clothing and in nicer offices.
Starting point is 00:31:16 I thought that was like really just a cool way to move that along. I got so excited. I got so excited the the thu thu thu thu thu to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the the the the the. the. tho tho tho the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th.. th. th. the the the the the the the the the the theateate. to to to to to to to to to to to to thea. theat the. the the. th along. I got so excited because the guy that eventually gets to is Lance Reddick, who is Lieutenant Daniels on the wire. Oh. Who? I saw that mother frucker in Whole Foods one day. I think you told me you saw I'm in Whole Foods because I knew I had heard of him but I'm not seeing the wire. Also, if you get a chance, go listen to his song, Tick-Tock on Spotify. Really? Is it a cover of Kesha's TikTok? No, no, it's this terrible, like, jazz vocal number that he does. Oh, I will listen to that.
Starting point is 00:32:00 Do you remember the song Chocolate Rain? No. Oh, it was an internet sensation a few years back. Okay. Probably 15 at this point. It sounds like the adult contemporary version of Chocolate Rain. I will look into both. But I got very excited the first time watching this, like, Lance Reddick!
Starting point is 00:32:17 Yes! What was he buying a whole foods? I don't know. I made a conscious effort not to bother him. You don't look in everybody's cart when you pass them? Because I do. I also saw the guy who plays George Washington on the John Adams, HBO series, and Jake Jill and Hall at the same Whole Foods. Wow.
Starting point is 00:32:40 Yeah, Jake Jill and Hall, I know was hanging out of that whole food's like he wanted people to see him there when he was in town. The George Watcher, the guy is the only guy that like some woman walked up to him and he was like, hey, don't I know, maybe. And I looked at him and I went, I know you. I know you. Who is that? Who is the. Who is is David Morse and he looks like he looks like this. Hold on, it'll come into focus. Nope, that's terrible looking.
Starting point is 00:33:10 It looks like a monkey. What is that? I guess we could just screen share instead of trying to show each other our cell phones. No, no, let's be grandpaws and try to show each other our cell phones. This is what the people tune in for. Oh, that that that that th. Oh, that th. th. ththe's that that that that that thi that that that thi that thi that thi that that that thi that thi's that thi's that that that that that that tho is that's thi's thi's that is that's that's tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho that is that is that is that is that is th. th. th. th. th. th. th is th is th. th is th is th is th. th is th is th is th is thi is thi is thi is thi is thi is thi is thi is the people tune in for. Oh my God. Oh, that guy saw people at Whole Foods. Let's talk about that. Fuck. So, David is a homicidal maniac. Yes.
Starting point is 00:33:37 But he's, every, every murder he's doing is to help the family. Right. And he's so calm. He's just so deeply calm. Yeah. Oh, and he's framed Zeke the boyfriend for the murder of Craig the friend who he murdered with Ethan Embry. Because Zik is an albatross around Anna's neck basically. Right. He plants the gun that was used to kill them in Zeke's van. Right, along with the drugs that Zeke deals already. So when he gets busted, he's going down twice. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:16 That's a bummer. That's a bummer. Like Zeke sucks, but he didn't do anything, you know? That phone call from prison where he's just like, or jail, I guess, where he's just like, yeah, I'm, they found the gun and, well, on my weed. I guess I won't see you for a while. Yeah, it's kind of heartbreaking. Yeah, but he's still so wonderfully derpy about her.
Starting point is 00:34:40 I guess I'm just going away. I don't know what's going to happen. Zeke. Oh, also in this scene where dad announces that his boss is dead, he announces that he got a new job in a race. Yeah, and he's like, so there's that. And the mom's like, oh, okay, well, that's nice. Yeah, they seem to have a lot of tension between them about a lot of things, but one of them being how much money he earns, which is, okay, I don't know. Like, how would you react to that, that news that you've got to raise because somebody,
Starting point is 00:35:17 your boss killed himself? I don't know. I think at least going, God, that must feel really weird. Let's explore that a little bit. But, yeah. Oh, that's fine. So Anna is like totally distrust David now and is sure that he's the murderer. Yeah. And Jesse is also sure of this, but don't care.
Starting point is 00:35:38 Not Jesse. His name is Luke. Jesse is the O-A character. Oh, right. He actually, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, th. th. thi, th. thi, thi, thi, thi, that, that, that, that, that, that, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's thi. that's thi. that's thi. thi. thi. thi.. character. Oh right. He actually like tips him off that that Anna's on to him, which is such a fucked up thing to do. But he says it in this way where he's like, because we're friends. And David's like pissed and then goes, yeah, we're friends. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. The military guys that we saw earlier are now tracking him down. They figured out where he is. He's at the Peterson's house.
Starting point is 00:36:08 David is helping mom hang laundry when the military shows up with all the guns. Yeah, and they do a really bad job of containing him and keeping her safe. Like, this should be top-tier military, right? Like this is the top echelon of American forces. I love the first guy that he shoots, which in slow mo, turns to the camera and goes, oh, shit. This whole scene is so funny. Like, it is so intentionally funny.
Starting point is 00:36:42 Like, when he's diving around the house and crawling and like jumping through the window into the bedroom, it's just so funny. And it does two things. It is very funny, and it also lays out that the military is fucking terrified of him. Because as we found out, he burnt a wing of the hospital down and escaped. Absolutely, yeah. Yeah. I mean, they're just shooting these people's house up with no concern. Yeah, at one point I was like, is it just going to topple in on itself because you've shot all of the walls? Yeah, you're going to kill everybody. And mom runs into the house like she doesn't. She doesn't believe that David's a threat, I guess.
Starting point is 00:37:34 Right. He's the she she loves him now. Oh man, that's bleak. And David says I'm sorry and stabs her in the heart. Yeah. Oh no, he doesn't say I'm sorry. I'm sorry. He says Caleb would understand what I have to do. That's right, that's right. Implying that Caleb was also turned into a super soldier. Yeah, right. And they also have a picture in their home that Caleb must have sent to them of him and his like troop? Squad? Squad? Military guys. I'm not trying to be, I'm not trying to be disrespectful. I just don't really know. I just don't fucking know. Yeah, I don't know like what the granular, because there's like seven of them. Yeah, it's like species and genus and family and all that. Yeah, so yeah, his buddies. And David is in the picture, so, which also leads you to believe that Caleb has had the same treatment. What I loved about that is that David is photoshopped into the picture, obviously.
Starting point is 00:38:35 But they're like standing their arm-in-arm, like, it's really, yeah. I hate in movies when people are obviously photoshopped into the picture. Like, why not, why can't you just take a picture? He's here, he's here, you know? The only thing, like was there a point where there was a different actor that was going to play that character? I don't know. Then they, like, they saw Dan Stevens take a shirt off at the pool and they were like, no, forget at you.
Starting point is 00:39:06 What is that just how he gets his rolls? The other guy was Jonah Hill. No, I get it. I'll get it. I'll get it. You got it. You got to do this. I gotta go. So he kills mom. He killed mom. And you're like, th, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I don't, I that, I don't, I don't, I that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, I that, I that, I that, I that, I that, I that, I that, I that, I that. You gotta do this, I gotta go. Gotta go. So he kills mom.
Starting point is 00:39:27 He kills mom. And then you're like, oh no, oh no. And then he sees dad coming at him on the highway when he steals the family car after he's popped all the military police tires and killed all of them except for Lance Rettic. And he sees dad and he's like and oh, what's he going to do? Oh, he's going to do a head-on collision and kill dad. Well, he walks over and shoots dad because he's not fully dead.
Starting point is 00:39:51 And he looks so annoyed that he has to shoot him. He's like, I cannot believe he's not dead. It's so weird. It's so weird. The next time we see him, he's driving a van with just a blood stain on the windshield where like someone's head would be it's so good it's such a nice toucest. This is going back to my question from the screen three episode is it Prangles once you pop you just got to kill everybody. He needed a vehicle though. Oh you're right. In defense of David killing an innocent person he needed that van.
Starting point is 00:40:24 You know Carvana will deliver your car David you don't have to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to have to have to have to have to have to have to have to have to have to have to have to have to have to have to have to have to have to have to have to have the good thage tho the good good good good good good good good good good good good good good good good good good good good good good good good good th. He needed that van. You know Carvana will deliver your car, David. You don't have to do this. Sponsored by Carvana. Give us that money. So, David goes to the restaurant where Anna works, but she's just been taken away by the military policeman. So he goes in and- And Luke told her, told him that she had probably told Kristen. Right, right, right, right. So he murders everyone in the restaurant with two grenades.
Starting point is 00:40:57 He shoots Kristen first and you're like, oh man, he just doesn't care if he gets caught now. Nope, that's not what's happening. He has grenades. So, ugh. And it was like, oh, this, this doesn't age well in the age of mass shootings that we live in now. Like that, it felt real weird that scene. You know what though, that's 2014. They lived in an age of mass shootings then too. He should, they should have known. It's true. But what you know? It's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's, it's very, it's very, it's very, it's very, it's very, it's very, it's very, it's very, it's very, that's very, that's very, that's very, that's very real real real real real real real, it's real, it's real real, that's real weird, that's real, that's real weird, that's real real weird, that s that s that s that s- that s- that scene, that scene, that scene, that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's real, that's real, that's real, that's real, that's real, that's real, that's real, that's real, that's real, that's real, that's real, that's real, that's th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. th. th. too. He should, they should have known. It's true. But what are you going to, you know? Yeah, it's very like, it's intense. Yeah. So Carver and Anna are on their way to the school to pick up Luke, who has been given just detention for. Oh, we didn't even talk about what he gets detention for. What does he get detention for? You describe it to me. I just kind of got a warning that my computer's hard drive is almost full, so like I'm freaking out a little bit. Uh, so do you want to stop here and save and just start new files?
Starting point is 00:41:54 No, I think it should be okay. So at this point, I should have stopped and save my file. Stick around to the end and I'll explain what happened. Wait, what did he do you do to to to to to to to that that that that that that that th??? th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th thi? thi? thi? thi? thi? thi? thi? the the the thi? thi? thi. the the the the their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their? their? their? their? their? thi? thi? thi? thi. thi. thee? tipea? tipea? tipea? tipea? tipea? tipe? tipe? tipe? thea. thea. the. th to the end and I'll explain what happened. Wait, what did he do to that kid? He broke a yardstick over his face because the kid called him the F word. Oh that's right. Yeah. And the kid had been bullying him like, this was one of the kids that got beat up, yeah. Right, and so he like slashes the kid's face with a yardstick. It's dead. And like, and Dan Stevens goes to the to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to the to the to the principal to to to the principal to to the principal to to to the principal to to to to to to to to to to the the the the to to to to to the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th s s s s s the's the's thiia o' thia' thiaste's thia' thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi.ea. thia' thia' thi. And like and Dan Stevens goes to the principal's office and the principal's like yeah we have to expel him it was zero tolerance and he basically like flips the script and it's like what he called him so that's a hate crime so I'm gonna contact the ACLU and our lawyer's gonna get in touc-tou'
Starting point is 00:42:39 and your school's fucked and he has like a month full of detention? yeah that's what's up. he he he's he he's he he's he he's he he's he he's he he's he he's he he's he he's he he's he he's the he he's they. He's like he's like he's like he's like. He's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, th. He's like, th. He's like, I's like, th. He's like, th. He's like, th. I's like, th. I's like, th. I's like, and he's like, and I's like, and I's like, and I's like, I's like, I's like, I's like, I's like, I's like, I's like, I's like, I's like, I's like, I's like, I's like, I's like, I's like, I's like, I's like, I's like, I's like, I's like, I'm like, I'm like, I'm th. I'm thi. I'm thi. I'm tho. I'm tho. tho. I'm tho. I'm tho. I'm th. I'm thi. I'm th. I'm th. I full of detention? He's like yeah, that's what's up. Yeah. He's like I didn't even know he was gay. I'd love that he yelled that as they're like leaving the room. Yeah. And I love that mom wasn't like, what the hell? Oh, she's all like smile, like hell, yeah, you did? She loves it. So his detention is that he has to help build the nightmare maze that is the school dance entrance way. It is so cool. That school dance is so cool. It's Hell Health LLC. It is, but at your school, but also I feel like it's a pretty serious fire hazard
Starting point is 00:43:22 to not be able to exit a school dance without going through a maze. And I like said that out out out their their their to help their their their the fire to help the fire the fire the fire the fire the fire the fire to to the fire the fire the fire the fire to help the fire the fire the fire to help the fire their to help their to help to help. their their thoom. to to thoom. th. th. that th. th. that th. th. th. th. their their their their their their m. their m. their m. their their their their their their their their their their their their their the. the. the. thi. the. the. the. I. I. the. to. to. tea. tea. tea. tea. tea. tea. tea. tea. tea. tea. t not be able to exit a school dance without going through a maze. And I like said that out loud while watching this movie, and then when the fire broke out I was like, see? Findicated! Yes! So we go into this immaculately dressed school dance. Hall of mirrors and like creepy tunnels. And then the dance floor itself, there are three giant masks decorating the floor,
Starting point is 00:43:51 which are the Halloween 3 masks. They are. You know, I want to say something about Halloween 3, which is that I really thought it was stupid at the time, but that was early on in this, this podcast. And I feel like I have my, my, my, my, my, my, the, my, my, my, my, my, my, like, like, my, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, the, the whole, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, the whole, the whole, the whole, the whole, the whole, the whole, the whole, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, thought it was stupid at the time, but that was early on in this podcast. And I feel like I have, my tastes in my life have changed so much as a result of doing this, where I see what is actually stupid, and now I think that might be genius. And there are a lot of things I'd like to go back on and change in those early episodes,
Starting point is 00:44:24 because I think I just didn't have the horror worldliness despite having seen a lot of movies, you know. I mean, I feel like as we approach 300 episodes and six years into this, we can start redoing movies at some way. I mean, there's already one on the docket that we're definitely going to redo. Right. We're going to do it soon too because, fuck it. th. th. th. th. th. th. the, th, th, the, th, the, the, the, the, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, tho, thoro, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their already one on the docket that we're definitely going to redo. Right, we're going to do it soon too because fuck it. If they don't, if people don't like it, they don't have to listen to it. Oh, they don't. No. Fuck you, ill, people. Just kidding. You're great. Six years into it, this is what I'm doing that the whole time. Very true. I I I I I I I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I that the whole time. Very true. I love the shot of like him framed with the skull mask behind him and then the witch and the pumpkin on either side. And then it's set to this like, I don't know what the song is that's playing
Starting point is 00:45:15 right there, but it's like a very bassy, very slow, electronic gotthee song. Yeah, it's Antonio by I can't thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. th. th. th. th. this is thi. thi. this is this is this is this is th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. this this this this this this this this is th. this is th. this is this is th. th. th. th. this is this is the. th. the. this is the. thee. this is theeeeeeeeeeeeee. theeee. the. the. the. th. can't remember the woman's name, Annie's Something. I think she's in digital candy. Okay. But oh Antonio, boom, yeah, that song's really cool. It's a really like interesting vibe. Yeah. Because he's playing the mix CD that Anna made for him. Oh, right, right, right, right, right. After like a very scary scene, which he sits on her bed and is like, okay? About him leaving and it's just like, he's so scary. I like that scene too, because that was, I could kill you. I'm not going to chill.
Starting point is 00:46:00 Yeah. Like, just let me get out of here and get away with this. But like her boyfriend's in jail, you know? She doesn't see it. She does not see that as having done her a favor. I'd like to see the 20 years down the road were in retrospect. The only way she ever would have gotten out of that relationship with Zeke. Thank you, David, Dan Stevens. So from here it's just like, there's a basically like cat and mouse shootout situation where eventually Anna kills, or no, Luke kills David. Well, yeah, so Anna and Luke are running away.
Starting point is 00:46:44 Carver and the detention teacher have already been killed. And Luke's like, no, this is all a misunderstanding. He's not coming for us. And she's like, he killed mom and dad. And that is such a sad scene for Luke. Like, he's lost his brother. He's lost both of his parents. Like, it's just so sad. And I feel like that's the like Bad Boys 2 shit just got real scene for Luke. Like he's like, oh yeah, let's kill some motherfucker. Yeah. There's also a cool thing that's happening in the scene where they have a, like a fog machine going full blast for the dance so you can't see the floor so they like don't know if someone's crawling around on the floor which I think is so cool. And she's tricked him by like
Starting point is 00:47:28 walking her boots through blood and then like getting out of her boots? And when he finds them he's like uh-huh uh-huh this mother fucker so yeah Luke kills him and there's a really like kind of oddly sweet scene where David turns to Luke and he's like, you did the right thing. You did what you're supposed to do. He said, you did the right thing. I don't blame you. Thumbs up, don't feel bad.
Starting point is 00:47:57 I'm dead. But is he? I love the fireman talking to the other fireman that's like, yeah, yeah, the, the, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, the fireman talking to the other fireman that's like, Yeah, there were two bodies and one of them had all of his teeth knocked out. I guess it happened during the thing. They both had their teeth knocked out. We're, huh? And then we see David come walking out in a fireman's uniform. And Anna just goes,
Starting point is 00:48:25 What did you say? She says, what the fuck? And then the credits roll, yeah. This movie is so silly. Like, because Carver tells her in the car that he was part of a medical experiment, but but like he reveals the military secrets to her and then straight dies. Like. Like he reveals the military secrets to her and then straight dies. This movie is Batshit. Really?
Starting point is 00:48:50 I, yes, yeah. It does not look like it's going to be bad shit. The bad shit is a surprise. And I think your next is like that too. You were expecting one thing out of your next and it gives you this other like completely off the wall thing. Totally. Yeah. Did they ever make any other movies the people who made this and your next? Let's see. You have to Google because my Google is not working. Adam Wingard is the director and what else is it? He did that death note movie. I don't know that. It's like based on a manga and maybe an anime.
Starting point is 00:49:27 Oh. He was part of the VHS stuff. He's the director for Godzilla versus Kong. Fuck I want to see that so bad. I was gonna say, when's that coming out? The answer is who the fuck knows? Yeah, so he's done some stuff. Can you Blair Witch too? Yeah, he directed that too?
Starting point is 00:49:47 I know people didn't like that, but I liked it. I thought it was fine. Really fun. Yeah. Any movie that's got an expanding house in it is always going to get me. Totally. I thought it was so fun. That movie sucked thuked.
Starting point is 00:50:03 But that one aspect of it where where, where, wherethe institution that just keeps moving. Yeah. So you want to rate this movie? Yeah, I love this movie. I love, when I first saw it, I saw it at Ladies Nightmare and I was expecting something totally different and then what it actually was was just so delightful to me. It's so bizarre and bat shit. And the, I love one bad shit takes you by surprise. Mm-hm. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the institution the institution the institution the the institution the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th th th. It just just just just just just just just thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi the institution just just just just just just just just just just bizarre and bat shit and the I love one bat shit takes you by surprise. I'm gonna give this movie a nine. I love it. Oh, that's awesome. I'm right there with you. I would give it a nine too. The soundtrack is great. The acting is great. The twists are great. Yeah. The action is done really well. Having Ethan Embbrie show up in it is very exciting. It's funny. It's like genuinely funny. As you're next, you know. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:50:52 I'm a big fan of this movie. Do you want to do a quick mail bag? Oh sure. You said you had a review to read me? We got a review on Podcast Republic, the podcast app that I use, from Mike from Texas, who says, the perfect movie review podcast, four exclamation points. In fact, my favorite podcast, regardless of genre. These guys are the main reason I get out of bed on Monday mornings.
