Werewolf Ambulance: A Horror Movie Comedy Podcast - Episode 291- In the Tall Grass (2019)
Episode Date: July 27, 2020Truly it had been too long since we tackled a Netflix original film, so this week we're discussing the 2019 Stephen King/Joe Hill adaptation "In the Tall Grass." Somewhat appropriately for a film abou...t the horrors of the great outdoors, this episode was recorded on Allen's porch. Special topics for your consideration include: Stephen King Madlibs, an absolute need for Dwayne 'the Rock' Johnson, evil children and evil fields and evil dads-- these are a few of King's favorite things, the appearance of one of our favorite things (Australians playing Americans) and...what? Just what. Seriously, what? If you'd like to go back to the genesis of "Steven Kang," may we recommend Episode 66- "Thinner"? Or if you'd like a film about how being outdoors will probably kill you, how about Episode 15- "The Blair Witch Project"? Want to combine the two concepts and throw in some magic kids or something, just for good measure? Can't go wrong with Episode 59- "Children of the Corn." Hey, we have a subreddit! We're embracing it! Join us, or at least Katie (Allen's eyes don't work when it comes to Reddit) at r/werewolfambulance. Hey Katie.
How are you?
I'm fine. How are you?
I am not sick, but I'm not well.
So since we are outside and it's sort of like a picnic atmosphere
to what we're doing, it's sort of like we're on a trip together,
like I don't know, maybe a road trip, let's do a Mad Lib.
Sure, but real quick, if this is,
if you didn't listen to last week's episode, we're recording outside because of COVID,
and cars keep going to be a lot of cool people, we're getting very distracted. We're doing our best. So.
Yeah, I feel like this movie, this one's gonna be a little bit more cogent because
we kind of have to explain the movie rather than just be like, you like Rush Buck,
me too. Here's what I need you to do is explain this movie to me so yes, let's go on. Okay, Mad Libbs. Okay, madlibs. Okay, mad lib's. so. so. so. so. so. so. so. so. so. so. so. so. so. so. so. so. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th, th, th, th. th. th th th th th this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this this th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. Mm-hmm.
I'm going to need a non-city type of road.
A non-city type of road?
Uh-huh.
Like a country road.
Oh, um, sure.
Country route 32.
Uh-huh.
Is that a thing?
Yeah, I'm going to go with Country Root. 32. I need a type
of song, literally any kind of soul song from the 60s, maybe CCR. Do you want me to name a song?
Yeah, just give me a song. A soul song? Oh boy, well, there's a lot to choose from. I'm just whatever the first one that pops in your head. Well, I've got a whole lot popping around in my th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. head. We'll just grab a soul song for me.
All right, then I pick, um,
well, this movie features some Sam Cook, so we'll go with Sam Cook,
a change is gonna come.
Okay, I love it.
Yeah.
God, I was yeah. Come on. Monsters make the best art sometimes.
Uh, type of field, you know, cornfield, grass field, tree field, type of field.
Okay, um, field, field, Garfield.
Okay.
Uh, I'm going to need, you can pick one of these three, either an alien, a Native American, or a space safe. Native American. Uh-huh.
Mm-hmm.
Mm-hmm.
I'm going to need some sort of item.
Any item?
I see light in a bottle.
Bottle, I see light.
Okay.
That's a beer, you guys.
I'm going to need, uh, the name of, uh, it's not a mom it's a pop there you go
alien Native American space Satan
space Satan this time I think probably okay I'm gonna need a it's not a pop it's a
soda no no no it's not a dad it's a uncle no no no it's not a dad it's a
uncle no no no no that the a dad, it's a... Uncle.
No, no, no, the female version.
I get to say whatever I want, mom.
Yeah, there we go.
No, it's actually got to be very specific.
I need any type of male relation.
Uh, brother-in-law.
Okay.
Me-in-law.
I need an adjective.
Funky.
That's going to work great, thank you.
I am going to need alien, Native American or space Satan.
Alien, I guess.
Okay.
To my, to my dismay.
Another adjective.
Stanky.
Okay.
And I'm going to need another soul song from you, or maybe a ZCR song. Oh, just a CCR song. Oh, it's a C-C-R song, that's a good. That's a good. That's a good. That's a good. That's a good good good good good good good good good good good good good good good good good good good good good great great great great great great great great great great great great. Thank. It And I'm going to need another soul song from you, or maybe a ZCR song.
Oh, just a C.R. song? I'm going to be proud Mary. Okay. Yeah. Great. This is a Stephen King movie
generator Madlip. Okay. I am stoked. Let's go. A farce is driving down a country route,
listening to a change is going to come when they encountered Garfield. A Native American force is playing an evil bottle of icy light in the field. the th. th. Oh. th. th. Oh. Oh. th. th. Oh. Oh. th. Oh. th. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. th. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh. Oh, th. Oh, th. Oh, you. Oh, you. Oh, you're th. Oh, you're th. Oh, you're thi. Oh, you're th. Oh, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you're, you. I'm a to, you. I to, you. I to, you. I to, you. I, you. I, you. I, you. I, you. I, you. I, you. I, you. I, you. I, you. I. I. I. I. I. I'm a thi. is going to come when they encounter Garfield. A Native American force is planted an evil bottle of icy light in the field.
Fuck, you don't do that.
A pop loses touch with the reality and become a monster because of space Satan and then
torments his family and anyone around them.
A mom becomes a blubering mess and must be saved seemingly by a seemingly irredeemable, but actually
loving brother-in-law
who sacrifices themselves for the family or something.
A funky child has all the answers and will actually save the protagonist protagonist from
aliens.
As everyone drives away who are stanky, a proud Mary starts rolling over the credits.
That is fucking bang on. Good work my friend. Thank you. Wow! That's all you got to
do to write one of these god-dame movies. How are we not billionaires? Brazilianers? Brazilianers even. I would settle for billion. I think I think Brazilian's a little out of read. Do you know Jeff Bezos is going to be a trillionaire? Set that man on fire? That doesn't even even even even even even even even even even even even even even even even even even even even th. th. th. th. th. th, b th, b, b, b, b, b, b, I th, I th, I th th th th th th th th th th thi-a, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, ba, thione's thione's th. th. th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, the th, the the the the the the the the the the the the th, the th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi's thi, thi's thi's thi's thi's thi's thi's thi's thi's thi's thi's thi's the thi, the know Jeff Bezos is going to be a trillionaire?
Set that man on fire.
That doesn't even make sense.
No, it doesn't.
It doesn't.
Oh, God.
Anywho, yeah.
Yeah, so this movie is literally like someone just was like,
I need a Stephen King.
And he was like,
theymea lick the butt and he was like grassfield and runes
he's got Stephen King's magnetic poetry candle spring yes exactly oh my god
that is so so fucking bang on I had no idea this was a Stephen King influenced film
and I don't know how I didn't know that it was based on a novella written by him and his son Joe Hill. How do you think they write together?
You think they both sit around the computer and he's like, dad, dad, dad, dad, I look
exactly like you dad. Does he look just like him? I've never seen him. Wow that's so funny. It's not shocking. It's funny how jeans works. Oh my gosh I know. It's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's th. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. th. Yeah. Yeah. th. th. Yeah. Yeah. th. I. I. I. Yeah. I. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I that's. I that's. I that's. I that's. I that's. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I's th. I my gosh, I know. Yeah.
Yeah.
Wow.
Oh boy.
This movie is so Stephen King though.
Once you knew that.
Now it all clicks into place for me.
The magical child, the mean dad, the confused mom.
The temporal reality that doesn't make any sense no matter how you try to parse it? Yeah, I can't quite figure that out.
Hopefully we can sort it.
Okay. We're not going to.
We're doing the movie in the tall grass.
A Netflix original picture.
Okay.
Isn't it? Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah.
But that's just like movies now, right?
thimes. It's like to be in a theater, I don't think. Oh, okay, I see what you're saying, yeah.
It's bananas.
There is someone credited as grassman?
Yeah, the face guy, I would assume.
Oh, okay.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Because when they start having grass heads, I was like, this is he's the grass man. B-Bah-Bah-Bum-Bah-Bah-Bah-Bah-Bah-Bah-Bah-Bah-Bah-Bah-Bah-Bah-Bah-Bah-Bah-Bah-Bah-Bah-Bah-Bah-Bah-Bah-Bah-Bah-Bah-Bah-Bah-Bah-Bah-Bah-Bah-Bah-Bah-T-T-T-Bah-T-Bah-Bah-Bah-Bah-Bah-Bah-Bah-Bah-Bah-Bah-Bah-Bah-Bah-Bah-Bah-Bah-B-B-Bah-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-B-Bbomb, bam-bomb, bada-bom. Just imagine being around that song and people that were on cocaine.
I'm a skatman.
So this film opens with grass screaming and growling,
which just is like, this is gonna be bad.
You know who the director of this film is?
It's some Italian, yeah.
He's from Detroit.
Look, look, you can be an Italian-American?
He is the director of the Cube. Oh, you know, that explains a lot of unnecessary complexity.
Fewer maths, though, in this one. What is his name, Vincenzo something? Yeah, for sure.
For sure. I mean, it's like a hundred percent. I'm not going to look it up, it's just Vincenzo something. Yeah for sure. I mean it's like a hundred percent. I'm not going to look it up it's just Vincenzo something. Just wrote down he's a director of Cube.
Gotcha. So we joined the film in progress with a brother and sister pair in
the car. Totally thought they were lovers. Totally thought they were lovers so they started talking about mom and dad. Yeah. She is pregnant. Yeah. thou-s's like six months along, which is pretty unusual.
Yeah.
And he's eating a fast food burger, which made me desperately want a fast food burger.
But he's eating that in the way of like close up and loud?
Yeah, the best way to eat a fast food burger.
Just gah!
I know I'm not allowed to eat on the podcast anymore, but if I had a fast food burger, I'd be annihilating it right now. I did buy us a bag of Oreos to eat. Look, I promised the reviewer who said that they hated when I ate on the show,
that I would never do it again.
They're red, white and blue Oreas.
I know.
I've been looking at them since the last episode.
I like, I like how the brother says to her like, don't even take the baby's needs into account. And I was like, um, excuse me.
If you're planning to birth that child, you probably ought to take its needs into account, you
probably ought to take its needs into account.
You know?
Although we do find out later that she's planning on giving it up for adoption.
Which is fine, but you're still taking its needs into account. It's like a fucking jackassing a rental car. Exactly! I got the insurance, I'm going to drive it off this ramp, you know?
Not my baby.
That's brutal.
Oh my god.
So they pull off the road so she can throw up at just the right place.
What was she eating by the way? It was just like, like traffic cone orange? Was she just like down in house and bags of cheetos? I will say that once. It that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that th. It th. It th. It th. It th. It th. It was th th th th my th th my th my th my th my th my th th th th th thi thi thi thi thi th th thi thi thi thi my baby thi my baby thi my baby thi my thi my thi my my thi thi th. It was thi thi that that that that that tha tha to to tha to tha tha' to that that that that that that that that by the way? It was just like, like traffic cone orange.
Like, was she just like down in house and bags of Cheetos?
I will say that once I threw up a bunch of Cheezets
when I was pregnant, and it did look a little like that, so, yeah.
Yeah, I like ate too many cheeses and got a hard kick the wrong way and was just like, oh no! That made me not eat cheese that's ever since.
Yeah.
Yeah, yeah.
They pull off the side of the road and they hear a little kid yelling a little kid.
He sounds so fake.
He does.
I would be like, look, you come here, you come here, you come here, kid.
I would be like, you're going to do, you're going to the roofing or and see what I could see. I'm not just going to walk right into grass that's above my head. Smart. The second thing I'm going to do is
turn around and see how there's a giant fucking church across the street and
say maybe we can get into that tower. Maybe we can see them thrown. their towar. haul him in. No, guess you better call 911 and get to a high point
so you can see if you can find him and direct him out.
Oh my god, you dummies.
I guess it's not a movie, that is it?
Also, I was like, you have to start stomping that grass down
so you can find your way back out.
Right, which Travis later starts tying. I mean, I find it very hard to believe that this beautiful woman let Travis impregnate her, but okay.
He isn't a band.
I mean, that's true.
He's a singer too.
Yeah, and he has that gross hair.
Ladies love gross hair.
I feel like that's what my hair was looking like for a while during pandemic, so I would
prefer it if you didn't say that. If it is, you are hiding it on the zoom calls.
So fun to record outside.
There's just so much to be distracted by.
For the next session, I'm going to give out my address so people can sit across the street and watch us too.
That would be great. They could just sit in there, sit there on the sidewalk.
We'll throw candy like it's a parade. Because people are like I'm going to send you stuff and I'm like you've made a
thing. You're the best. So far it's been wonderful. There will be a time that it
isn't. Of course. Yeah. And that's why my house is filled with machetes and butcher knives. Oh my god. Come at me bro. So Cal and Becky walk into the grass. Yeah. And it is spooky. they. they. they. they. they. they. they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they they're they they th. they they they they they they they they they they they they they they're they're they're they. they. they. they. they. they. they. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. th. th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm th. I th. into the grass. Yeah.
And it is spooky, for sure.
They immediately like split up and cannot find each other.
Why don't they stay together?
I don't know.
There's absolutely no way.
Hold hands.
Nobody holds hands in this movie.
They're like, you just have to stay with me.
Hold fucking hands.
Or like hold on to the back, I don't, I don't know. Can I tell you about a note I
have early on in this movie when they start like trying to find each other in
the grass? Yeah. The nice thing about this movie is you don't really have to
watch it. Because you don't. And that's the Fartmobile. That Honda was souped.
It don't want none.
So it's basically you're watching a game of Mark Opel.
Yes.
Yes.
Yes.
It's so, it's so ridiculous.
So they do a thing early on where they like jump up and put your hands above
your head so we can see each other and they do it and they're very close to each other. And they're like, okay th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, thi, thi, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, tho, th... th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi. And thi's thi's thi thoooooooooooooo the thi thi thi thi other and they do it and they're very close to each other and they're like okay do it again first why why not just walk towards each other. They're both smiling and
they're so happy. They're so happy. They do it again and like they don't appear
to one another. Yeah yeah and that's like I like oh yeah there's something very very good thrown their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their their. their. their. their. their. their. their so. their so. they're so they're so. they're they're so. they're so they're so they're so they're so they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they're they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they's they're they're they're they're they're they're they're their their their their their their their tooo. their too. their their their their their their their their their their they around. Sure, it's just there for that kid to deliver that line. You think?
I mean, that's right, that's like such a Stephen Kingy line of like,
it's easy to find things when they're dead. Yeah, I think that and they just, I also think maybe they just
couldn't figure out how to get them all in one place at the end. Right, right. They do all have to get back together. So if one finds the dog and then yells for the dog,
none of them will move because they're by the dog.
Right.
And the dog has been dead, but then sometimes the dog's alive.
Yeah, that's that whole time, temporality thing that like is.
Is it. complicated yourself. Like he walked himself in a circle and was like, now what? I feel like I'm blaming Stephen King and this bit might be like,
Dad, Dad, will you put your name on this? Dad.
Dad. I feel like Joe Hill then, if we're blaming this on Joe Hill. I feel like he saw a happy death day and was like, how can I make that
less fun? Oh man, that movie is way better than it should have been. I fucking love that movie. Why have we done that on this podcast? I enjoyed every goddamn second of it. I know there's a sequel
I haven't even seen. It's supposedly terrible. Really? That's disapoing. that's not a premise
that a second movie should begin. Oh God, fun. And it was really charismatic actors.
In a college instead of a field.
Actually, it's very different.
It's Scotshmore nudity.
Yeah?
There's some nudity in that movie.
I don't remember.
I don't remember.
There's probably some tetts.
Who knows?
So we find Tobin pretty quickly, who is the little boy.
Something's weird about that kid, that actor.
So, we get-
He's like a grown-ups face.
His face kind of looks like the happy death day mask.
Oh my gosh, yeah.
When we first meet Tobin, he's like a monster Tobin.
Yes.
He's super gray and weird looking.
Yes. Because then we meet regular Tobin. Yes. He's super gray and weird looking? Yes.
Because then we meet regular Tobin later.
Who's just a little boy?
Yeah.
Yeah.
I don't know why that is.
I guess, so the time thing is really confusing to me of what.
Even when Travis finds Becky and Cal in the field, he's like, you've been
gone for like thi.
And they don't even even even even even even're not even like, well, where have we,
like, what has, have people been looking for us?
Like, what has been going on?
They don't even question it.
Like, nobody questions the time issues in this movie.
Also, Travis goes to their car,
and there is a maggot burger, That's CGI looks so fucking shitty. It was just like, why did you even bother?
And if it's two months, we're past the maggot face.
Yeah, they're not eating it, there's nothing for them to eat.
And also, if it's a fast food burger, it's still fine.
Yeah, it's fine. It's not blue.
Because they were just like, let's make it blue.
Just spray pay the thing and be done with it. Yeah, like the waterlogged book wasn't enough for us. Yeah, right, this copy of Jane Eyre.
I also highly doubt that woman likes Jane Eyre.
I don't know why, but I just don't.
I mean, if you're seven months pregnant, you're wearing a strapless, backless bra,
I don't understand you.
That's all.
Jane Eyre speaks to me of a practicality that that a that a that a strapically that a strapless back was bra while seven months pregnant does not. What is a strapless backless bra? It's like it goes across like this and then it goes all the way down so
you can wear like low cut back things. The strap is like sort of down where your waist might be.
Yeah, she doesn't even have cool like cool back tats that it would be covering. It's just that dress. Yeah, it's just that dress. That maternity dress that she that she that she that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that she that that that that she's that she's that she's that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that's that that that that that that's that's that's that's that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that that thinenenenenenenenenenenenenenenenenenenenenenenenenenenea.a.a.a.a.a.a.a.a.a.a.a.a.a.a.a.a.a.a.a.a.a.a.a.a. the. wearing. I'm not back pregnant.
I just...
Robbins told me that I didn't look pregnant from behind while I was pregnant and I was like,
well I'm not pregnant in the back!
Because I was mean.
Yo, girl, you don't look pregnant from behind?
Yeah, well, look at my ankles.
Hers are fine, by the way.
That's one of those like attempts
that a compliment that as you're saying,
like, oh, this is gonna back fire.
Just put that right back in your mouth.
Your hair looks fine in the dark, boy.
Yeah.
So Tobin finds Cal and he's like, Becky, your sister, she's going to die soon.
Yeah. How does he know that?
Because he's a magical child, because it's Stephen King.
Okay.
But, that doesn't make any sense because in the timeline of what happens, Cal dies before Becky.
Doesn't he? No, he finds dead Becky. No, he doesn't. Or no Travis, Travis finds
dead Becky. And emaciated Becky too, like she's starved to death. Uh, if you say
so. Or maybe she's a mummy. Unclear. Yeah. I mean, she's all hip bones and like
yeah. Connected to the thigh bones. So then they also meet Tobin's dad, Ross, real estate's game.
I kind of liked him for a little bit.
Has he been there since the 50s?
I don't know.
Played a little ball, Ranlon was a track star?
It's fucking ridiculous.
That dude's in a to'nipuous.
He looks so familiar to me.
His name is Patrick Wilson.
He is in the conjuring. Who was he in the conjuring?
One of the shitheads.
Tell me more.
The husband wife two, oh.
Oh, he's Warren.
Yeah, when he's jerking it in that room.
That's the one.
Smacking it to Annabelle.
I didn't see that, because you told me it was so terrible. No, but Annababel, Ann, Ann, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th. th. th. th. th. thi, thin, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, to, toooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, to, to you told me it was so terrible. No, Annabelle's in the case in that room. Oh really? Yeah, that's... Yeah, fuck it. I'm never gonna, I'm not gonna do it.
Well, I almost suggested we do Insidious this week and then I was like, have we done that?
We haven't. Are you sure? Yeah, interesting. Would do. All right. Maybe next week. Oh, tho' that th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th that thu thu that that that thu thu that that thu, thu, that thu, thu, thu, I that's thu- I thu- I'm thu- I'm thu. I that's thu. The what?
Bone tomahaw.
That sounds made up.
It sounds like somebody's names one would give their penis.
Oh, yeah.
When someone gets stabbed with the bone later in this movie,
I was like, that's a dick.
Did you know that he was in a film that? comes home, another Annabelle movie. And also, this year, The Conjuring the Devil Made Me Do It.
Man, he's milking that.
Good for him.
Get your money, the nun.
He's in the Conjuring Havana Knights.
Yep.
He's in.
Yes.
Oh, he's on good on that. No, good for him. First season to Fargo is fucking good. I'm never gonna watch it. I just can't get to it.
I just can't get to it.
No.
I mean, you gotta get through the wire first.
I'm never gonna watch it.
I just feel like I'm gonna die without ever seeing the wire.
Well, our Patrion is gonna be that. to the button to set it up. Like this is the laziest we've ever been. We were almost there and then the pandemic happened and they were just like, nope!
Nope.
Remember we almost switched podcast networks to one that we could do but Patreon episodes?
And then I was like, I'm gonna take care of this and then I just built, dug a hole in my backyard and then covered it with astroturf and lived in it for a while........ Oh, we, we, we, we, oh, we, we, we, we, we, we, we, we, we, we, we, we, we, we're, we, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're th, th, we're th, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, we're, wee, wee, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th... th, th, th, th. No, th. No, th. No, th. No, th. No, th. No, that, that, that, that, to that, to to to that, to to that, remember, that, that, that, that, to make any money at this. It's fine. Truly, it's fine. Who gives a shit? This is for the fun. This is for the love of the game.
We're in the horror movie podcasting game for the love of it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's what we do.
So, I don't know, they're goes in there empty-handed. That's right
retort but it's like near all of her corpses later. Yeah, oh by the way everybody
has a bunch of themselves in here. Yeah they just keep dying which doesn't seem to
affect their later lives. What I don't, okay, okay, okay, all right, parse it for me when I don't understand uh huh so in the middle of this
field which is directly in the center of America right that's that is a
dumb as L B2W there is a rock which I guess we're to assume is a meteorite of some sort
are we? That's what I thought. Cool. That has like indigenous
folk art carved into it. Yeah. That explains everything that's happening as it's happening.
Okay. I think. The only time that I acknowledged it as having anything to do with the movies when
one of the runes is having a baby. Yeah, yeah, and then the next is like the runes stabbing it.
Oh, okay, I didn't see that somehow.
Somehow.
I'm sorry.
And it's just, it's that thing of, all right, if I don't think about this, it's fine.
But if I give one thought to this, right?
It all falls apart.
How does this, how does this exist?
How does it exist?
How does it exist?
How many people has it gotten?
Right, because there's ten cars in that parking lot?
Yeah. How has nobody come looking for those people? Because if you go... The problem is, if a person goes missing and people care about them,
they're going to find their car in that parking lot.
Sure.
Then are they just going to go into the grass too?
Then who's coming looking for them?
Like, how long has this been going on?
You know? Is this new go to later. Yeah. That's completely decimated. They drive by
earlier and it's fine. Oh, oh. Wait. That doesn't make any sense. No it doesn't.
And it's also in the middle of grass. Yeah. So the grass has somehow
enveloped it. That quickly, huh? But... Or is it just an illusion? Right, that's the thing. Is
all of this... It's almost like the grass is putting off some sort of like
psychotropic drug. Okay, yeah, yeah, yeah. That's making all of this shit seem
like it's happening. And it almost alludes to that in a couple places where like
like there's a shot of like a drop of dew dripping down a blade of grass and
reflected in the drop is like the upside down grass and I was I was like I don't
think this is cool though you know that's so cube yeah yeah yeah yeah
yeah 100% cube let's just pretend the director's name is cube
cube but not to be confused with ice cube right
he's just cube every they said the rock did you just think of Duane the
Rock Johnson? Because I did. And I just feel like he has probably trademarked the
phrase the rock. Yeah, in a way that I'm surprised they were able to use it. Yeah, you know. They're like touc. They're like tou like to like to to to to to the like to to to to to the to to the to to to the to to the to the to to the the the to to th th th th th th th th th the the thoen theen the the the rock thouen the rock the rock the rock the rock the rock their their their their their their their their their their like their like their like their like their like their like their like their like their like their like their like their like their like their like their like their like their like their like their like their like their like just like hold his hand for a little bit? Rub his ball head?
Yeah.
That'd be nice.
That's that big bull tattoo that he's got?
Yeah.
Why not?
I don't know.
I don't know.
I wish it was the rock.
What if they got to the middle sang the song from Moana. Or this movie just turned into Fast and Furious 33 or whatever they're on right now.
We gotta do one of those movies though.
When we get our Patreon up and running.
Yeah, we have to have Dave on when we do it though.
Does Dave love those?
He's joking.
No. He's so not excitable.
Of course he does. He also loves Monster Truck rallies. that's. thahahahahahahahahahahahahah. thah. thah. tha. th. th. th. rallies. That is so interesting.
It's a fascinating human being.
Sorry Dave for divulging your secrets on the internet.
Oh Dave, I love you, you're the best?
Yes.
Oh gosh.
Oh, he's a beautiful onion.
He's not smelly, he just reveals himself in layers.
We've got Ross and Ross is fine when we first meet him.
It's a little skezy, I guess. And but like he's like I'm a...
Is there a crow in this tree? It is going to eat us. It's probably that demon child that's staring at us.
Tobin, no. It's uh. He's like too familiar. But he's like skisy and like he's like a, he's a realtor. Right. It's a sales guy. Yeah. But he's like, oh dad's like, he's like, that's not, th. th. th. that's like, th. th's like, th. th's like, th. th's like, th's like, th's like, th. th's like, th's like, th's like, th's like, th's like, th's like, th. He's like, th. He's like, th. He's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, he's like, th. He's like, th. He's like, th. He's like, th. He's like, th. He's like, th. He's like, th. He's like, th. He's like, the the th. He's like, the the th. He's like, he's like, the the th. He's like, th. He's like skisie and like he's like a he's a realtor writer use salesman It's a sales guy. Yeah, but he's like oh dad's not in the picture the moment he meets Becky and you're like guy
Rude Q
But when we next see him and he has gone full like Stephen King monster dad. Yeah, I just like what I don't?
Why? It happened so fast and I think it's also kind of a missed opportunity because when you
meet him he's being like so like salesy and weird that you're like, is he a bad guy?
But then it's like the movie's just like, yep, he is.
Yeah.
I feel like it just doesn't work.
No, I feel like they couldn't figure out who the villain was. Sure. And so it had to be, he had to be like to be like to be like, like, like, like, like, to be like, to be like, to be like, like, the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi, thi, thi, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. the. the. the. the. the. theee. thea. thea. the. theea. thea. thi. thi. the. the. the, and so it had to be he had to be like the accessible villain, something to defeat. Right, right, right. Have you ever seen the ruins? I have read
the book but I've not seen the movie but this reminded me very much of the book.
Yes. Yeah. Yeah. I have done both. Yeah. I have done both. How's the movie? Uh, how's the movie? About as good as the book. I don't even I don't th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th as th as good. I th as good. I th as good. I th as good. I don't as good. I don't as good. I don't as good. I don't as good. I mean it's a lot different than this movie because you know it's about
vines not grass. My friend it is all the same to me. The whole time I was watching this I was like,
this is why I don't do outside, you know? I was wondering that. It's just like if you ever played in cornfield the cornfield? You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. You th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I was th. I was th. I was th. I was th. I was th. I tho th. I was th. I'm th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm th. Of course not. That's dangerous.
I used to play it in cornfield all the time. You will get cut if you're running through a corn field.
It's dangerous for that and it's dangerous because you could get turned around.
It's true. But if you and your friend are running at top speed and diving into rows of corn and knocking them all down, probably not making a farmer happy. Probably not making a farmer happy. It's that. It's. It's. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. It's th. Yeah. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I'll th. I'll th. I'll th. I'll the. I will the. I will the. I will th. I will th. No, no, no. Again, I grew up in some fucking weird 80s slash Norman Rockwell shit.
It's a very strange upbringing for you, honestly.
We're gonna go swim in the river and play in the cornfield,
and then drink Jack Daniels when you're 11.
You're like a weird huck Finn.
I'm suck, Finn.
Oh, God, that's the saddest thing I've ever heard. Let's move on. Also, there's no way they're getting out of that field without lime disease.
Am I right?
Because that's the first thing I started worrying about was ticks.
You can't go in that high grass, so I'm getting ticks.
Uh-uh.
Uh-uh.
they only see. No, there is also a close-up of a fly, which then a bird eats, and you're supposed to be like, oh, but like, that's what birds eat, my friends.
Just the fucking circle of life kicks in.
Yep, yep, yep, yep.
One thing that I did like a lot was when Travis first enters the field and he's,
just at Travis in general.
Travis is an ugh, name people given movies to be like he's a bit off-center. Yeah.
I liked when he first entered the field and he's looking up at the sun and
then all of a sudden the sun is gone and he turns around and it's behind him.
I thought that was really clever and really well done and just like a great spooker. It is like a thi- that was really that was really really really really really really really really really really really really that was really that was really that was really that was really clever that was really clever that was really that was really clever that was really clever that was really that was really that was that was that was that was that was that was that was that was that was that's that's that's that was that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that was that was that was that was that was that was that was that was that was that was that was that was that was that was that was that was th th th th th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the. the. the. the the. the. the. the. th that like he's following the sun and then he's like,
hey, what's that? A fart? And then he looks back and the sun's gone?
The fact that the sun's like, ha ha!
I like that. I like that. I like that. I like it. I like it. I like it. Do you like the idea of these forces of nature? Like supernatural nature? Kind of the dicks? I, I. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the sun. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. And thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. theeeeeeeeeeea. theeea. theeeeeeeea. the the the thi. thi. th idea of these forces of nature? Oh, like, supernatural nature kind of being dicks.
Yeah, although right now we're sitting out on your porch
and there is a tiny, tiny spider on my phone where my notes are
and I don't want to touch it.
And I'm just gonna push it over there.
I'm freeballing it now.
Do you want to bring that citrnella candle closer? Yeah, why don't I just push it over there? Oh shit, it's coming for me. So how spiders work?
Ah!
To be fair, it is absolutely tiny.
And you pulled your legs into the chair.
No, it's cool.
Okay.
Stop touching Katie's tough, spider.
Seriously.
Okay, let's move on.
So, Travis is like like and Travis has like set
himself up to be like the master tracker. Oh has he? Yeah because he like comes in
he's like I already spot in the sun I know I'm going in that direction there's the
sun. Oh my god the sun's gone and I'm folding down the grass which I fucking
this. He folds the grass down so he can find his way back. the grass. He folds he the he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he he th is like th is like th is like th is like th is like th is liked. th. th. tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. tho. th. th. to to to th. th. to th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th is th is th is th is th is th is th. th is like th. th. th. th. thi. the. the. to to te. te. te. to te. teee. te. te. te. te. te. te. like, oh did you? Oh, did you fold me? Yeah.
Because I untied myself and stood back.
No, not at all.
Oh, I liked it a little bit.
I like that the grass is sentient enough
to just be doing a jerk off motion at all times
because it's basically what it's doing.
The grass does not hurt you.
The grass is just a to to to to to to to to to to to to to just to just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just just a guy you don't want to be on the
subway with. Totally. That you're going to be like I'm going to go over there.
I get to switch cars. Yeah. This is fine. We're doing a good job. That truck is driven by so many times. Yeah, where are they going? I don't know. Where do they come from? Where did they go? So like, Travis comes in two months after Becky and Cal have gone missing.
And he finds them, and he is all like weather-worn and terrible, and they are fresh.
He hasn't bathed in the two months that she's been missing.
But they are fresh.
They've just stepped back. So why do they keep getting do-overs while Travis doesn't? I don't know. That's the part that doesn't make sense to me
because I can understand if they all keep getting do-overs, but he never gets
back to the start. He's always in the same timeline. He finds her, she's the same time-li. He finds her, she's the same time. He's theymear, right, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th. th, th. th, thr, thr, thr, thr, thr, thr, thr, thr, thr, thr, thr, thr, thr, thr, thr, thi, thi, thi, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thr, thr, thr, thr, thr, thr, thr. thr. thr. thr. thr. thr. thr. thr. they's, thr. thr. thr. thr. theeeeee. thr. thr. thr. that he's there. But she really isn't because she loves him. Oh my god, he was gonna be in the baby's life.
Yeah, Travis's back, baby.
Also, I feel like this whole movie is just like
Travis's punishment for not wanting a baby,
and it's okay to not want a baby.
For sure. Yeah, for sure.
Like why is Travis the onlythe morality tale of not to give your kid up for adoption Yeah, yeah, I did not like that. It felt Diablo Cody is that the woman who wrote?
Oh, do you know? Yes. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. She does give that baby up for adoption to be fair.
She does, but she doesn't have the abortion. Right, right. Man, that's a shit movie movie, too. Man, that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's a that's a that's a shit's a shit's a shit's a shit's a shit's a shit's a shit's a shit's a shit's a shit's a shit's a shit's a shit's a shit's a shit's a shit's a shit's a shit. Man, that's a shit movie. Man, man. Man, that's so cute, but then it's also kind of diabolical. Yeah. Her name is Diablo. It is not. Her name is probably Jessica, if I have to guess.
Nobody names their child Diablo. I'm sorry, they just don't.
I don't know, uh, Frank Zappa named his kid Moon Unit.
That's a fine name compared to Diablo.
What about Dweezel?
worse, yeah. But it still doesn't mean devil in Spanish. I did like that the church was called Church of the Black Rock of the Redeemer. Yeah, that's dope.
Church stuff is real scary when it wants to be. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Yeah. I remember
getting into like some dark shit of the Catholic Church and being like, this spooky. Yeah, yeah. And Ross starts going in and on all like, oh it's the black rock of the redeemer, come come come come come come come. th. th. th. th. the th. th. th. the th. th. the th. th. the th. th. the the th. th. the, the, the, th. the, the, the, the, the, th. th. thi. th. th. th. th. th. to. to. to. to. to. the, the, th. the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the, the the the the the the the the thi. the the the the thi. the. the, the. the. and being like, this spooky. Yeah, yeah. Yeah. And Ross starts going in on all like,
oh, it's the Black Rock of the Redeemer,
come get redeemed.
And he starts turn into like a little bit of a preacher.
Right, right.
Well, then he tells us, because he does tell us at one point
that he had been in a Christian rock band. God, what a great name for a three-piece. Me and my Gibson and Jesus. Don't you think? Is the drummer Jesus? It doesn't matter. We're all one and we're all not.
The Trinity. Yeah. Me and my Gibson and Jesus. That's a great name. Yeah. Yeah.
Yeah. Rosh should have stuck with it. But here's like here's the problem too is like
he touches the rock.
Yes.
And then he becomes a crazy person.
Same thing happens to Tobin.
But he's, Tobin is rescued at the end.
Tobin's okay.
But he, remember he's touching the rock and he's trying to make Cal toubent.
Who's when you say he?
He's touching the rock earlier in the film. Right, when we see gray, dusty Tobin.
So why is he not fucked up at the end?
Why does Tobin get, why is Tobin, why?
Black Rock of the Redeemer, I guess.
That doesn't make any sense.
No, no, no, no.
Travis touch gets the restart on Becky and Cal's timeline so that Tobin can stop them from going into the grass and the three of them are saved.
So is it touching it that resets it? I don't think so? I don't know what? Because there's like ten dad dead cows at one point.
Yeah, but why? I don't know. Is it that he dies and it just starts over? Because then does Becky die at the same time?. Because their their their their their their their their toy. their toy. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. tobo. tobu. thea. thea. thea. tobo. tobo. tobo. tobo. tob. tob. tob. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. t. the. the. the. the. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to. to then it just starts over? But because then does Becky die at the same time?
I don't know. Is there a movie that's still going with a fucking Travis still? I'm doing stuff?
I guess so? Because he just lays down at the end and you're like, you're gonna nap or are you gonna die? He's the grass man. Bada b Is that nothing about it like it's it's, hey, I got this concept.
Well, how did you flesh it out?
I got this concept.
Yeah, there's no aha moment.
No.
Like at one point Becky gets a call from Future Becky.
Yeah. And I actually like this, I like this mechanic and sort of time travel movies of like communicating with your your, their, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, like, the, the, th, th, th, th, th, and, and, th, and, and, th, and, and, th, th, th, and, th, th, th, and, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, I, I, I, thi, I, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi.. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi and sort of time travel movies of like communicating with your past self. Yeah, yeah.
Where she calls herself and says don't let cow kill Travis, don't leave him alone.
And she's screaming at the end of the call, yeah.
She gets the call.
So we see her get the call and then we later see her make the call after it has happened.
But there's so many of her dead. Did she ever get a chance that tha tha to re. thia thia thia to th. th. th. th. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. thi. that that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, the, to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to th let, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, that, the. the. the. the. the. the. to to to to to to to to the. the. chance to redo that? I don't know. I don't know either.
I just, I, yes, this was the biggest problem I have with this movie is that I just didn't,
I didn't care.
Yeah.
I wasn't like emotionally invested to be like, have you seen the movie Primer?
Uh-uh.
It's a space or a time travel movie that like works out the paradoxes of time travel.
Or Time Crimes is another movie, time crime. It's the Spanish movie about a guy who
invents a time machine, goes through it and sees this awful dude who's doing these horrible
things. And through a succession of time loops realizes it's him.
Oh. And it's sorry for spoiling time crime. But it's really well done and like
you can do these like time paradox movies. Yeah. And this is like it's like time
paradox but then they're like it's super natural. Yeah. And rubbing your head.
I feel like the thing with time travel is you have to be super fucking careful with it, right?
Sure. Yeah. Like, I watched a German show on Netflix called Dark.
Yeah, yeah. Which, did you see it? Not yet. It was very good. I only watched the first season,
and then I was like, I think that's probably enough for me. I don't need to see where it goes from here. th th to to to to to to see to see to see to see to see th th th to see th th th th to see to see th th th th. Sure it to see th. th. th. to see th. th. th. th. th. the to to see the. th. th. th. the th. th. to th. to to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to be to to to to to the the the the the the the the the the the the the the to the to thu. te te tou te te te. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the different timelines rolling together and in this movie and they were all treated like you can
tell every line was thought through like how is this going to tie in to you
need a big board with yarn. Exactly. In this movie they were just like don't
worry about it. Later we'll meet them earlier. But why? Because later the the earlier is now. Like I just I they they they they they they the the the they the they the the the the they the th. I I th. I th. I th. I th. I just I just I just I just I just I just I just I just I just I just I just. I just. I just. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. the. they the. the. they were. they were the. th. th.? Because later the earlier is now. Like I just the thing that I don't get
is why, I mean a lot of things I don't get but the thing that's bugging me the most is why Cal and
Becky gets so many do-overs and Travis doesn't. Right. Yeah, yeah, I don't know. Because Tobin seems to get
two overs too because when they come into, Tobin and his parents both because they come into the court the field the grass field the Garfield and find Travis there
But Travis has met him on the previous journey like why is he the one who's stuck there
I don't know and why can't women solve anything in these movies oh because they're dumbed
Yeah yeah because mom is pregnant so that's like her condition Oh god her hormones are just foof and she I like she also goes into labor like false labor a number of times and th th th times?? th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th th. th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I th. Yeah. I th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I th. I th. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I the the the the the th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. I's th. I's th. I's th. I's th. I's th. I's th. I's th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm th. I'm te. I'm te. he he he he he he he's he's he's he's he's he's he's he's th. he's her condition. Her hormones are just foof. And she also goes into labor, like false labor,
a number of times.
And then I kept thinking like if she's been here two months,
is she nine months pregnant now?
Or eight months pregnant?
Yeah, yeah.
But she doesn't look any bigger.
No.
It just doesn't, I don't, it's not, I don't, it's a, it's a logistical problem. Sure. Yeah and at this point shouldn't she have been there for like 13 years? Like there's just like I don't know. There's so much going on. And then
when we meet mom, Tobin's mom, yeah Natalie. Natalie. She's just a hysterical
maniac. Right she never gets any redemption of any kind and all she gets is her
head smushed by her dick husband. Yeah. Also how strong is he? Come on. Well after he touc the rock. This is after he's touched
the rock. Oh see he became the rock. Dwayn the rock. Dwayn the rock. Dwayn the rock.
The rock. Right. And then he just raised that eye. It would be like, okay kid, yeah, shut up. I'm gonna touch the rock. Oh no, I'm seeing blood. I don't even understand what touching
the rock does. What does it show you? I don't know. I don't understand what happens when she
has that baby. Oh yeah, I don't know. Because she has the baby at one. After it gets touched by grass that goes in her. I. I. I. I. I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, the the the the th, I, I, I, I, I, I th, I th. tho, I tho, I tho, I don't thi, I thi, I don't to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to to th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I the the the the the the the the the th. Oh, I the the thi, I the thin, I the thin, I tou tou tou tou tou tou tou tou tou tou to be toooooooooooo, I to to to to. Yeah, and then all of a sudden her brother is over her with no
shirt on. Yeah, mm-hmm. Why doesn't he was a shirt on? He's the baby now? Oh, and he's
feeding her something. He says it's grass and then I think you're supposed to
think it's the baby. I couldn't tell if it was, I was like, is that her placenta? It's the placenta too, and I'm like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, it's like, and I. It's like, it's like, it's like, and I. It's like, it's like, and I. It's like, and I. It's like, and I. It's like, and I. It's like, and I. It's like, and I. It's like, and it's like, and I. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the the th, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. that, that, that's, that's, that's that's that's that. that's that's that. that. that. that. that's that. that's that. that's that. that, th people do that that's fine that's not weird. Well you don't need it raw. No you would not eat it raw. You
cannot eat it raw. It's not Fiche it's fine. No. So I think you know but I think
you're right that it was the baby because when it like the the camera
like shakeily pans over and there's just an empty blanket on the grass make her do that? Like what is the grass's...
Does the grass answer to the rock? I don't... I think the rock answer... Yes, yes, the rock is the seat of evil.
Okay, and the grass is doing its bidding. Right, and the grass man...
Hmm. Buhmphabun, bribbun, uh, is supposed to be evil indigenous people, I think. Is it just just just just just just just just the the the the thi i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i i thi thi thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, I thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I th, I th, I thi, I th, I thi, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I thi, I thi, I thin, I thin, I thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, thin, I thin, I thin, I th, I indigenous people, I think. Is it just because there's like chance happening?
Is that what?
Yeah, yeah, and they were, yeah, and I think they were wearing loincloths too, and it was just...
I was just like, hmm, oh really? Still? Still doing this one?
Hmm.
Still gonna make that pet cemetery? Is that what we're doing here?
Boy, what a shit show this film was, huh?
It took me forever to watch it.
I have to answer because I kept just like having a second screen experience and being like, no,
you have to watch it and then I have to back it up.
And then I'd be like, oh, I didn't miss anything.
I like calling it a second screen experience, it sounds so nice. Right, I I I I I was I was I was I was th I was th I was to to to to to to to to to to to to th. I was like I was looking. Oh, I was looking up recipes for sorbet.
Yeah, ooh, that sounds delicious.
It does.
Oh, yeah.
Oh, yeah.
I haven't looked up.
I've not fucked with frozen desserts at all.
I probably should.
I got an ice cream maker.
Oh, damn.
Let me see if this makes any sense th th th thens thens thens thens thens this ma this makes this makes this makes this makes this makes this makes this makes this makes this makes this makes this makes this makes this makes this makes this makes this makes this makes this makes thisry it out. Yeah, nice. Let me see if this makes any sense to you. Please. There is a scene where Becky, Becca, sure, is in front of the rock and the ground opens up.
Yeah. And then in the ground is just piles of millions of bodies. Yeah, what were those?
Don't know, I guess they're the people who drove their cars there. But also why weren't there other bodies in there? True? Okay. Well, th. Well, the their, their, their, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. thi. thi. their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, their, Becky. But when they showed all the bodies writhing, do you remember the video for 21st century
digital boy by bad religion?
Vagly.
It's like TV static and then it pulls out and it's a bunch of people writhing with like,
yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.
Dr. Brett or whatever, like standing in the middle of them and saying. God, TV static was so of the time.
It meant something, you know, like a barcode.
Yeah.
Or a rotary dial phone.
Yes.
And I was just like, is this a nod to bad religion?
What's happening right here?
Could it be?
Could it be like a literal bad religion reference? I feel like Cube in that video might have been out at the same................... I, the the the the the the the the the th. I, th. I, th. I, th. Yeah, t. t. t. t....... t......................... Yeah, or, or, or, or, or, out at the same time. Wow, yeah.
No, I don't understand what those people were doing there.
I don't understand who they were. Are they indigenous people? Are they victims?
They never come back. They never do anything.
That's another thing that was driving me nuts is because that's implying that this is killed a but billion people right.
That doesn't make any sense. There are literally only the corpses of the five people that we've met.
Right.
That we encounter.
And Freddie, don't forget Freddie.
Sure.
Unless it just like takes on projects.
And it's just like, but even so if it does, it only really gets like a couple people
out of this one.
It's not a very high kill rate for the right? Yeah, six go in, three come out. That's terrible.
Although if it was baseball, you'd be batting 500
and then you'd be a fucking All-Star.
So I don't know what the Rocks,
I don't know what the Rocks system is, honestly.
I mean, I know that it's getting up early to lift,

Our baby deserves to live.
The guy.
He's trying so hard.
You know how I feel?
It's a, you can do the accent until you have to start yelling.
Yep.
I just, it's so like,
the film I think is supposed to be Travis's redemption story.
Right, right, right, right, right.
But he dies...
Which is the only redemption.
And I don't even know that he dies.
He just lives in the field now.
I thought, I assumed he was dead, but yeah.
I don't know. I assumed like, it had to be that like,
fucking horseship, bootstrapper, toxic masculinity of like the only way I can save you is to die
Yeah, okay, okay, okay. He does that just because he didn't want a baby.
Right. And he's clearly a man who should not have a baby. Not at all.
He doesn't even have a GED. No. That's fine. that's the life in order first. Yeah. Unless you're Einstein. And you're not, let's be honest. Travis. We've had this discussion.
You're not. You're not. And you need to stop claiming that you are. Just because you worked
at a patent office for a little while. Great. Great. Thanks. Thanks. Big, big, big good. Thanks. Big, big good. This movie. I mean, really, like, I feel like there are a lot of horror movies of people being trapped
in places that keep changing.
Like we did that one ghost encounters where they were in the hospital where the rooms kept
moving.
I saw a film called The Reeds a long time ago, which was maybe in Scotland where people were in a boat that got lost in Reeds. And the movie itself was terrible, but like getting lost in the Reeds is very scary.
But I just feel like this did everything wrong.
Yeah, for sure.
Every chance, every corner it came to it was like, let's take the wrong one.
Because even like Ross, the dad says here in the garden of forking paths, you didn't
make one choice. Is it a choose your adventure now, Ross?
Is it a choose your adventure?
And also like, well, what then?
You know?
Then there's only one path, Ross.
Right!
I'll lead back to you.
I'll lead back to you.
Calm down down, shitty ass Robert Frost.
I just couldn't figure out. He meant, like, like, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I th, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, I, th, th, th, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. th. the. the. the. to, to, to. to, to, the. to, the. the. thi. thi. th. th. th. each time Cal had done that, he found him on whichever path he was on
and killed him because all his bodies were there.
Which is such a Stephen Kingy thing.
Very Stephen Kingy.
So there was no path less traveled.
Right, exactly.
That sucks.
That sucks.
All were all roads to verge in a wood and I apparently took all of it.
And they all led to Ross Humboldt Real Estate Mobile. Not even Ross dress for less. No, no, you know what I'm going to get some discount jeans?
Oh, fuck.
Do you want to rate this thing because I don't have anything else to talk about?
No, I think I'm just about done.
You know what? It wasn't even fun to watch?
No. So I'm going to give it a three. Oh, okay. I did like some of the mechanics of it, like I love, I did love the sun being in front of him and then behind him.
I like the grass being a dick.
Because I'm sure that nature is a dick, so that's like a little bit reinforcing for me, which I like.
But otherwise, no, fuck off.
I was thinking of an analogy for this movie earlier today. And I was like, it's a Stephen King.
And a Stephen King is like a donut.
But sometimes, you know, you're like, I've had some good Stephen Kings.
I've had some fresh Stephen Kings that tasted really nice.
Okay.
But sometimes you get that donut and you like bite into it and you go, hmm.
This is three days old.
This isn't a good donut. Oh, see, that's where you lose me
because I'll eat any donut anywhere. I'm not saying I'm not finishing that donut.
I finished this donut. You did, but only because you were forced to. But I don't
feel good about having to eat in that donut. No, you're right. You're right.
You get partway in and you're like, oh no. I'm eating the rest of this and not this and not this this donut and not this donut and not, and not, and not, and not, and not, this donut, and not, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, th, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, thi, I's, I's, I'm thi, I'm thi, I'm thi, I'm thi, I'm thi, I'm thi, I'm th. I's, I's, I's, I's th. I's th. I's th. I's th. I's, I's, I's th. I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's, I's th. I's th. I'm th. I's th. I'm th. I'm thin, I'm thin, I'm thin, I'm thin. th thin. th th thin. th thin. th thin. th thin. I'm thin. I'm thin, I'm th. I'm the rest of this and not letting this donut beat me. Right. It's a matter of winning at that point. I agree.
So, uh...
Did we win or lose, Alan, I don't know.
Well, all roads led to me giving this movie a three.
Nice.
I just...
I feel like it had potential, but just couldn't pull it all together.
Yeah, no follow-through. Yeah. And not even follow-through, like no, it's, it's,
I had an idea.
Yeah.
And you made a movie about it?
It's interesting, because like, weren't there studio notes to be like,
you know what, this isn't making a whole lot of sense.
How can we make this clear for the audience? How can we make them understand thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi thi, thin, thin, thin, I, I, I, I, I, I, I that, I that, I that, I that, I that, I that, I thi, I that, I that, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I thi, I I th. Maybe Netflix has so much money that they're like, I don't know, just do it. Just do it, just get it into post.
Get back to me later. Because there's just there are no stakes. Ah, whatever.
Three, fuck off. We never have to watch it again. Keep up the good work on
Twitter though. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, yeah. I like the dad and son working together. I that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's that's th. Oh, I think that's wonderful.
Katie, yeah. Mailbag.
Yeah.
This is a little, I asked people if they had anything from Mailbag on Instagram.
Cool. We got this from Noise Bastard.
Noise Bastard says.
Hi, noise bastard.
What can I say? You're the double-stuff Oreos of Podcasts.
That is the dopest thing anyone's ever said to us.
So kind.
Oh my God, thank you.
I'm still looking at the package of Oreos and I just want to eat them so badly.
As soon as I hit stop.
I know, I'm tearing it into it with my teeth.
Here's a question for you. Yeah. From,
Malkaleo Typhon. Hi, Michaelia.
Yep.
What are your thoughts on letting kids, like Lucy, who is a kid,
watch horror movies?
Oh man, I think it depends on the kid's personality, really.
Like, Lucy is into spooky stuff, but I am not going to introduce any concepts of horror
to her until she's much older.
Yeah, three is a little young.
Yeah, I think I'm going to let her try to find it herself.
